Analysis Of Harrisburg University Of Science And...
Executive Summary Harrisburg University of Science and Technology located at 326 Market Street,
Harrisburg, Pennsylvania 17101 is a growing major educational hub which is attracting more students
and faculty per every passing year. As a result of which, there is a growing need to accommodate all
the vehicles and cars that the students and faculty uses to get to the University. The current location of
the university is right in the middle of Downtown Harrisburg and therefore the constraints on the
parking situation are pretty stringent. Harrisburg University, apart from regular day to day classes, also
holds executive classes for online students thereby keeping the number of attendees to the school
equally high even on the select weekends. As of January 11, 2016, the University had 400
undergraduate, 2600 graduate students and 150 full and part time faculty and staff. [1] The University
only has one (1) 16 story academic building and the Harrisburg Parking Authority operates a garage
within the same building. This garage, opened in 2005, is a 9 floor parking sandwiched in the 16 story
are hidden from the view so that the building has more of a presence in the Downtown area [2]. Apart
from this allotted parking, Street Parking may be available and is free on the Weekends and after 5:00
PM on Weekdays. This proposal is initiated as a result of the growing need for a more comprehensive
approach to plan the campus parking , both as it relates to current campus activity and

Essay On Simulation Violence
Is Simulated Violence Causing Dangerous Behavior?
It has been argued for years, does simulated violence make people more violent? Many people have
different opinions and are pretty split on the subject. Jay Hull, who is part of Dartmouth College
claims, Play of these Mature rated, risk glorifying games was associated with subsequent increase in
sensation seeking ... hanging out with kids who smoke cigarettes ... and thinking one would like to try
drinking and smoking. (Barclay). This quote demonstrates that when people play these violent games,
they look for more rebellious activities. While our video games are growing in details and
realisticness, so is the violence. Once we find ways to simulate something, we go overboard with the
idea. Right now, video games simulating violence have been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Many who play video games will agree, it s easy to get addicted. Even more so is that you could get
emotionally connected to that game. Those games, especially violent ones, can be an outlet of
aggression for those who feel more angry. However, what happens when this outlet does not fulfil the
satisfaction of letting out aggression anymore? What if someone went out into the real world and did
the actions in their violent games? As you can see, this could totally happen and this is why games that
simulate violence could cause aggression in some people (DO VIDEO GAMES CAUSE
VIOLENCE?). This evidence shows that even if people play violent games to let their aggression out,
it may not do the job and they could go do crimes out in the real world. People who do these crimes
inspired by video games usually do this to let out their aggression or do it because they enjoy it.
Another piece of evidence is that those who are addicted to violent games have more aggression.
According to Forbes.com, The Aurora shooter, James Holmes, the Sandy Hook shooter, Adam Lanza,
they re all described as essentially being addicted to video games.

Unanswered Essay

In life, there is a set of questions that causes people to question their purpose in the world. These
questions were designed to be simply that; questions. They have no answer and once the answer seems
to become apparent, it changes into a defining moment, according to Jim Tilley. These defining
moments that were once questions are the things that document our lives and how far we have come.
Jim Tilley wrote the poem The Big Questions to talk about and parallel these things with everyday
life. The big questions are big only/ because they have never been answered (line 1/2). Jim Tilley
begins his poem The Big Questions, by posing a philosophical statement in which the audience begins
to ponder what these questions might be. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some may say that it was by chance while others may say that it was fate. Tilley chose to end line 9
with the phrase can t because that is a phrase that constantly floats around the pessimistic mind. It
wrestles with the fact that there are always situations in which one feels as though they can t .
However, the answer to that question is clear to the bear who has determined that you are going to be
his lunch.
The grizzly bear is a metaphor for a problem encountered in life. The three options used to rationalize
what to do when encountering a bear also parallel to what to do in a tough situation. When faced with
a problem, everyone has a different rationalization to deal with it. The options are a constant that can
be applied to any circumstance in life: run away, confront it or sit aside and wait. What we do in tough
situations directly correlates to our response in previous life experiences. In the past, these tough
situations were big questions that made us wonder the typical why did this have to happen to me?
Tilley refers to these as defining moments.
These defining moments are the things that further our experiences and what help to shape us. So this
can be a defining moment, /but not a big question... (Line 20/21). Tilley seems to make a point that the
big questions will all ultimately turn into defining moments. As anyone would realize while

As part of students IEP resource program and RtI services, I provide instruction for the development

students work at their own level and I provide individual or small group mini lessons to support

Causes And Effects Of Witchcraft
Thesis:
Beginning in roughly 1450 continuing to around 1750, a fear of witchcraft in Europe led to many
years of witch hunts and executions of a multitude of individuals, an estimated 70% of those accused
being women. The idea of witches and witchcraft caused people to begin accusing others of almost
anything, the accused becoming scapegoats for the people of Europe. The witches were defined as
problems for cities and state to the people because they brought death, illness, failure of crops,
misfortune and evil wherever they went, and they worshipped the devil, God s powerful, malicious
enemy.
Reasons for being defined as problems/Introduction:
Starting in the 15th century, the idea of witchcraft began to spread throughout Europe. Accusations
were made against so called witches who rejected Jesus and the holy sacraments and worshipped
Satan (the devil). Inevitable and unforeseen accidents and casualties began to be blamed on suspicious
people in villages, primarily women. Some of these accidents included disease, death on humans or
livestock, injuries, men being sexually impotent, destruction of crops, and burning of towns. Many
people who prepared herbal remedies were targets of the witch hunts, especially if their medicines
failed to heal a patient. Midwives, people who tended to children after they were born, slaves, outcasts
of a village, elderly women of a village, widows, doctors, and much more people were all targets as
well. If they had given medicine to somebody

Analyzing Virginia Derryberry s Bonaventure Painting
While there are many beautiful and thought provoking works of art to choose from,
Bonaventure, painted by Virginia Derryberry, piqued my interest with its vibrant color and life.
Honestly, I have not visited many museums, but Virginia s interpretation of Savannah s famous
Bonaventure cemetery leaves me wanting to visit more museums. While browsing the museum there
were few that really captured my attention and mesmerized me. I will take this opportunity to
describe, analyze, interpret, and judge Virginia s Bonaventure.
Firstly, I will describe in detail Virginia Derryberry s art piece. Bonaventure is an oil painting on
canvas and is the largest painting in a series she painted in 1992. Virginia was living in Savannah and

The flowers are pivotal to the painting as they serve many purposes. One of their purposes is to
balance out the entirety of the piece. The flowers are also complementary colors that makes the piece
vibrant and harmonious. The placement and color draw the viewers eyes, using line of sight, first to
the flowers, then to the sculptures. Bonaventure is also full of curved lines, most prominently in the
flowers and swan, which gives a very soothing affect, leaving the viewer relaxed. Virginia used
several hues and values in the entire painting to create depth and intensity in the painting, giving it
vibrant coloring. This gives the painting a very light feeling, contrasting with the cemetery setting.
Although Bonaventure is a two dimensional piece of art,
Virginia uses space and placement to give the appearance of three dimensions. She overlaps objects
several times, such as flowers in front of a pedestal, or a figure in front of trees. Techniques such as
this creates the illusion of a three dimensional image. To add to the illusion, she introduces light with
shading and shadow to create the effect of a brightly shinning sun.
Next I will use my analysis of Bonaventure to interpret her piece. Virginia does a

What Causes The Polarization On People
What causes the polarization on people in the world?
Many people in the world do not have enough food to eat. However, some people can eat different
kinds of food. As we can see in the picture, a skinny man with an empty planet is sitting opposite to
the strong man with a hamburger in his hand. Both of them are hungry, but the skinny man does not
have food and he looks really uncomfortable. The strong man is fat and he is going to eat the
hamburger. The picture shows the realistic on the society. Many people in poor areas do not have
enough food to eat, at the same time; some people would like to eat unhealthy food in rich areas and
caused the obesity. According to the Latest Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) statistics from
2015, there are 795 million hungry people in the worlds (who are the hungry?). It shows that 11% of
people do not have enough food in the world. Actually, the geographic position and diet are the
important reasons to cause the polarization in different areas.
Firstly, the geography takes an important role on the polarization on food in different areas. Some
cities located in the places with the bad weather, the extreme lands and the temperature are changeable
in those places. However, some crops require comfortable weather and suitable lands to grow. For
example, Rice, Maize and Wheat are the important food for people to eat. Wheat grows in temperate
climates and maize and rice crops are more productive in temperate and subtropical climates than

Pretty How Town By E. Cummings
Anyone lived in a pretty how town, a ballad by E. E. Cummings, was first published in 1940.
Cummings is commonly associated with his peculiar ideas about punctuation; he lacked punctuation
and structure frequently. Being one of the best known poets of all time, Cummings creates a language
that is relatable to just about anyone. I think this poem is about a small community where everyone is
concerned with his or her own actions, never caring about neighbors or other members of the
community. Cummings does not clarify the names of his characters in story. Instead, he uses anyone
and someone. In doing this, he creates ambiguity for his characters. This furthers the idea that
everyone in this little town is not concerned with anyone

Slim Down Research Paper
Best 5 Foods to Slim Down
Overview
Americans spent approximately thirty billion a year on slim down products in vain. New research
highly states that, there are more than a thousand foods fighting hunger, boosting metabolism, and
ultimately helping lose weight. Thereby, grocery shopping is the best for a person to do, to slim down.
Small amounts of healthy fats induced food, helps one to feel full for long and ease absorption of fat
soluble vitamins. Overtime, science has proved that eating more fats cannot make any person fat.
However, picking the right amount of fats is one of the unique tricks for losing weight. Here are the
best 5 foods to slim down:
1. Beans

This is because, antioxidants known as catechins are what aids in burning of fats and speeding
metabolism. A recent study conducted in Japan shows that 35 men who drink a bottle of oolong tea
combined with green tea catechins lost more weight than those who didn t. Their metabolic rates were
also found to be higher. Most notably, they exhibited a significant reduction on body mass index
(BMI).
5. Fruits for food
a) Pears
They are recognized for their high fiber content. They are also great in in filling a person up. They
contain pectin fiber, which decreases blood sugar levels thereby aiding one to avoid in between meals
during the day. A Brazilian study found that overweight women who ate three small pears a day lost
more weight as compared to women who took the same diet but ate three oat cookies a day, instead of
fruits.
b) Coconut oil
Coconut oil has more saturated fats than any of the other cooking fats. This kind of fat has little effect
on cholesterol levels. It converts energy easily as compared to other fats. Therefore, it helps in weight
loss. Saturated fats contain lauric acid. This is a unique lipid that battles bacteria and improves
cholesterol levels. In addition, dietary use of coconut oil reduces abdominal obesity.

In the Cost of Goods Sold area, the variance is $2,000. Here, they should rethink their strategy in their
budget. They should make sure that their budget is enough to cover the actual expense of their
products and have more budget in the next order.
In the Electricity section, they should consider using energy saving materials for their resort. Not only
they can save in electricity, they can also save in their income.
In concern with their repairs, they can save more buy using durable equipment and materials to reduce
repair costs and should have maintenance every day to make sure that damages can be reduced,
therefor reducing the cost of repairs.
Administration Costs, here the budget should be a little higher than $2,250. It should be at least $3,000
or more but not too high. Administration should be able to use the budget efficiently. Responsibility
centers are recommended in this matter to further help the resort in budgetary controls.
Wages in Catering and Beverages have no need for improvement, it is in a good state and is with
balance with income and expenses just make sure that the service is good enough to equal the wages
to the staff.
In the Advertising section, the budget is ok and in the actual, you can use it in making new advertising

Media Self Esteem
At times, it can be hurtful when we do not get that attention that our friends get on social media as this
makes us feel as if we are nothing in this world. Michelle Linker can be equated with approval or self
esteem as she was a daily user of Instagram. She told her guardian that she feels anxiety over the likes
she got after she posted her pictures on his Instagram page. She said that she got only two likes and
she would ask herself what was really wrong with her. This greatly influenced her and lowered her self
esteem because she felt low and considered herself as a child of a lesser God compared to her
followers. In reality, when we all post something such as pictures of our own and don t get a lot of
likes, we always feel rejected which ultimately causes our self esteem to take a hit. This will always
affect our mind as a lot of question will ring each moment why we can be rejected. When we get likes
on our pages of Instagram or Facebook, the reward system in the brain is activated, and thus releases
dopamine, which causes individuals to associate likes with the same pleasure we may get or feel from
taking narcotics or any other drug that when you take, you feel well (Lin et al. 326).
Each moment we spend on social media sites such as Facebook and compare ourselves to others, the
more our self esteem lowers and the more we also get depressed. The worst part is that we forget to
take into account that a lot of what we see, particularly from celebrities and brands, is

The Ethics Of The United States
The organization by which I work was organized over two hundred years ago. As one of the largest
law firms within the borders of the United States, the responsibility of my organization extends to both
criminal and civil matters. The stakeholders represented by my organization are not the typical
investors according to the rules of business. Those dependent upon our services are those who are
warranted by justice to be made whole: society at large. The Firm was created by a Judiciary Act to
serve as the nation s primary source of litigative actions. The Firm has been divided into nearly 100
individual Districts. Each District is tasked with three primary responsibilities: to prosecute criminal
cases, to prosecute and defend civil cases, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The outcome of each assessment or evaluation process tends to directly and indirectly hinge on the
handling and processing of each of these elements. The District is divided into two primary areas and
each area is assigned specific foci to center resources and efforts. Both areas are tasked with
supporting the District by sharing resources, energy, and information. Therefore, the framework or
outline of District as well as the organization as a whole can be analyzed from the perspective of an
open system. An open system as Harrison and Shirom (1999) explains is product by which a whole
entity operates based on individually functioning parts simultaneously in order to achieve the system s
goals. According to Katz and Kahn (1971), there are essentially nine working components of an open
system. These nine characteristics are typically common to various types of open systems and can be
thusly applicable to my current organization as follows.
Importation of Energy: Based on the potential energy theory, the idea of importation of energy
recognizes that energy is delivered into the system through other sources or stimuli. Katz and Kahn
(1971) argued that no social structure is self sufficient or self contained (p. 21). Since the primary foci
of my organization stems to right wrong doings by bringing individuals and organization to the justice
system in order to rectify the situation,

Changes Since The Sixties Essay
There were no time guzzling metal detectors at the airports... or the schools. There were no grouchy
warning labels on the records and no ratings necessary on the movies. And TV shows were acceptable
to the whole family. Those were the sixties or at least part of it. Some of the 52 million sixties
boomers called it the decade of peace, harmony and love mainly for the movement for peace and the
flower power attitude. Others, a little more pessimistic, called it the decade of dissatisfaction because
of the protests against the war and the race riots in many cities. For the teenagers it was the decade of
sweet sounding, good time rock n roll...from the Beatles to the Kinks and many more in between. Still
for others it was filled with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Today the film industry is booming. The film industry also makes more than 200 movies a year so
they can usually film within the country. However both today and in the sixties film was in color and
both decades targeted younger audiences. Movie ticket prices have also increased. An average movie
ticket in the sixties cost about thirty eight cents, whereas today tickets cost between five and eight
dollars.
Literature techniques and topics chosen by authors reflected the social changes and interests of the
sixties. Some writers focused on traditional issues, others reflected the cultural conflicts made by the
Civil Rights movement, the coming of age of the post war baby boomers and the war in Vietnam.
Popular book genres of the sixties were romance, science fiction, and fantasy. Slaughterhouse Five
and Stranger in A Strange Land are just two examples. Today people enjoy reading fantasy and non
fiction novels as well. Although they also buy dating books such as He s Just Not That into You and
dieting books like The Zone Diet. The sixties was a good decade for non fiction in general. Both
Growing Up Absurd and Feminine Mystique did well with readers. Non fiction and fiction today don t
really compete since they have separate bestsellers list. However both are doing well with the Da
Vinci Code and My Life So Far on a Bestsellers List. Young Adult books in the sixties became
controversial for their critical observations of adults like Catcher in the Rye by

Theme Of Character Development In To Kill A Mockingbird
The two main storylines in Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird are the trial of Tom Robinson, who is
accused of raping a girl, and the mystery around Arthur Boo Radley. Throughout the story, we can see
the character development of young Jean Louise Scout Finch through these two events which is one of
the indicators that this book falls into the category of Coming of age literature. Other elements
however indicate that To Kill a Mockingbird can be seen as a Gothic Novel or even a subgenre of
Gothic namely Southern Gothic.
The characteristics of a character in a Gothic Novel are a virginal maiden or a damsel in distress who
is young, pure, innocent and kind. Other characters include a hero, a villain, a madman, ruffians or
even supernatural beings.
The damsel in distress, who is to be saved by a male person, is not the main character Scout in this
case, since it would sexualize a child if she were to be portrayed as a virginal maiden, but the daughter
of Mr. Ewell, Mayella. She in this case lost her virginity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though she is not mentally unstable or broken she tries to find her place in life and in society as

thus cannot relate to them, she also is in a state of inner conflict about the gender role society,
portrayed here in particular by her aunt Alexandra, and would prefer it if she would not have to follow
society s conventions.
Even though To Kill a Mockingbird does not feature supernatural elements which are arguably some
of the most prominent features of Gothic literature it can still be considered a Gothic novel since it
fulfills most of the other criteria. Furthermore, due to addressing social issues and morally ambiguous
characters, it classifies as a Southern Gothic novel without a

Free University In Canada
Free university, the idea may seem great but in reality it creates more harm than it is
beneficial.University should not be free due to the negative economic impacts that are attached to the
concept.
The Concept of free tuition for university would eliminate student loans in Canada hence weakening
the banks of Canada and the nation s economy. Due to the interest on student loans, banks make a
significant amount of profit. Without the income from student loans, the banks of Canada will severely
be weakened. This would cause banks to make less profit, pay fewer taxes, employ a smaller amount

While Socialism (equality) sounds as if it were a better economic system than capitalism (equity), it is
not. With history proving that Capitalism is a better economic system. If you look at the cold war
between the U.S.S.R (a socialist country) and the U.S.A (a capitalist country) for world power, it
becomes obvious that the capitalism is better economic system then socialism. As the U.S.S.R lost the
cold war in simplest turns because they ran out of money, while their counter parts the U.S.A economy
flourished and today they are undoubtedly the world s leading power(Cold war organization). This
shows that the socialist concept of free university will hurt the Canadian economy and that capitalist
system we have now works best for a strong Canadian economy.Furthermore free university is proven
to hurt the economies of several countries. Currently there are seven countries that have switched to

today that Farrah Jones of Memphis, who was hired as a tax examining technician in 2001, used the
data for returns she filed for herself and others. Prosecutors said Jones obtained dependent information
from IRS files and used the data on tax returns she prepared, knowing that the taxpayers were not
entitled to claim these dependents. This allegedly occurred for a year ending in February 2007. She
was arrested Thursday and released on $5,000 bond.
Another issue is browsing where taxpayer data is researched for personal purposes i.e. revenge or
other actions. UNAX is the code of conduct concerning unauthorized access. There are many UNAX
violations case pending today. One case in particular is about s former employee who looked up data
on celebrities and his neighbor just for the sake of doing it.
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) An IRS employee was sentenced Wednesday to three years
probation for taking a look at the tax files of almost 200 people, including famous actors, local sports
celebrities, and his own next door neighbor.

What s Internal Electrical System Controls The Rate And...
So, what is an arrhythmia? An arrhythmia is a problem with the rate and rhythm of the heart. The heart
can either beat too fast, too slow, or with an irregular rhythm. Arrhythmias can also cause the heart to
inefficiently pump blood to the body and other organs which can lead to damage in the brain, heart,
other organs and can ultimately lead to heart failure. Although most arrhythmias are non life
threatening, they can develop into a serious problem. To better understand arrhythmias, it helps to
understand the heart s internal electrical system. The heart s internal electrical system controls the rate
and rhythm of each heartbeat. Each heartbeat sends off an electric impulse that tells the heart to
contract and pump blood. The electric signal first begins in a group of cells known as the sinoatrial
cells or to state simply, the SA node. The SA node is located within the wall of the heart s upper right
chamber, the right atrium. In a healthy adult heart, the SA node fires off an electrical signal to begin
each heartbeat 60 100 times per minute. From here, the electrical impulse travels through special
pathways in the atria, making the atria contract and pump blood into the heart s two lower chambers,
the ventricles. The electric signal then passes through a group of cells called the atrioventricular node
or the AV node, located between the atrium and the ventricles. Here, the electric signal slows down,
allowing the ventricles with enough time to finish filling with blood.

Mummification And Death Rituals Of Ancient Egypt
In ancient Egypt, scarabs (a sacred large dung beetle from the Mediterranean area) first appeared in
the late Old Kingdom (c. 2575 c. 2130 BCE) and were used for the living, as a sign of good luck.
Then when they evolved from the so called button seals scarabs, they remained rare until Middle
Kingdom times (1938 c. 1630 BCE). This was because they were now being associated with the
afterlife and death. Some were used simply as ornaments and decoration, while others were purely
sacred in purpose, such as the large basalt heart scarabs of the New Kingdom (1539 1075 BCE). Later
they were also placed in the bandages of mummies and were symbolically identified with the heart of
the deceased. (Lace, William. Mummification and Death Rituals of Ancient

Charles Perrault’s Cinderella
In Cinderella by Charles Perrault, the story depicts an imaginative fairytale through the hardships of a
mistreated daughter and the magic of a fairy; in essence, Cinderella demonstrates that focusing on
materialism is more important and more effective other than working up the path to majesty.
Cinderella is a character who is often mistreated by her stepmother and god sisters. Bearing unsuitable
personalities, they treat her harshly, leaving all of the chores to her. However, she admits that her
tattered clothes are not worthy of a formal event, and continues to be belittled by her stepsisters.
Portrayed with low self esteem and insecurity, she does not respond harshly to their cruel insults. As a
result, the main character relies on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, her true beauty lies within her skin, as Perrault s interprets Cinderella as a hundred times
more handsome than her sisters . He aims to focus more on female recognition and self fulfillment,
rather than provide a base for all readers to understand fully (Hühn). At an elementary level, this may
not influence children to an extent, but other stories that reproduce this same structure of plot elements
could possibly influence children in the future. For instance, she was not the hero of the story. The
Prince isn t the hero until he discovers her lost possession, a glass slipper, and searched for the person
that fits. As told by Perrault, he had done nothing but look at her all the time, and that most certainly
he was very much in love with the beautiful owner of the glass slipper. This enforces the fact that her
beauty prevails over her actual personality but not behavior, and the appearance and mannerisms
surely impressed the Prince. The Prince stereotypes the role of women being in need of a destined
lover. He is the one that identifies Cinderella as the one in the dress, though excluding behavior, her
appearance dazzles him for two nights at the ball. Most importantly, he s not the hero of the fairytale,
but readers can interpret the fairy godmother as the savior of Cinderella s demise. The role of magic
comes in part with the acceptance of achieving the imagery of an elegant woman, impressing the
Prince who gains interest in her. The

Los Angeles Rams Football Club V. Cannon (Page 76 in textbook)
Background
Billy Cannon is a highly touted draft prospect coming off a successful college career at LSU, which
included a Heisman Trophy win. The Los Angeles Rams of the NFL were the first in signing him to a
$50,000 contract. However, Cannon subsequently signed a $100,000 contract with the AFL s Houston
Oilers. The Rams sued Cannon in an effort to prevent him from performing any football activity for
any organization other than their own.
The Facts Of The Case
The defendant did sign a contract with the Los Angeles Rams covering the span of the 1960 1962
seasons. He then received two checks for $10,000 and $500. Not long after, the defendant signed

Philadelphia Ball Club V Lajoie (Page 83 in Textbook)
Background
The Philadelphia Ball Club was challenging a judgment from Pennsylvania s trial court, which refused
to enforce an injunction against Lajoie for breach of his contract. The court felt that to do so would
render Lajoie so valuable to the ball club that his breach of contract would lead to irreparable
damages. The court felt that the player s value was not that high, and that the language in the contract
in which the ball club could discharge the player at anytime without the player being allowed to do the
same lead to this decision.
The Facts Of The Case
Lajoie signed to play for a rival team during the terms of an existing contract that specifically stated
that Lajoie had not had the right to do so. His value was not determined highly enough to make the
breach of contract valid, leading to the ball club appealing the decision.
Legal Issue At Hand
Was it right that the player s value was not high enough to hold him legally responsible for his breach
of contract?
Appellees Argument
The Ball Club argued that the withdrawal of the player did in fact hurt the ball club, as would the
departure of any good player from any good ball club. Their language was as follows: the defendant is
an expert baseball player in any position; that he has a great reputation as a

Polygyny in Africa Essay
Polygyny in Africa
Whereas numerous African creation myths are supportive of cultural practices such as circumcision,
there are very few, if any, creation myths that justify polygyny. There are many proverbs about
polygamy. However, proverbs do not have the same weight as myths in explaining why certain things
should be the way they are. African creation myths suggest that monogyny was the original practice
not only among creator gods, but also among the original humans. The pursuit of immortality through
procreation is noble. Nevertheless, its achievement through polygyny discriminate against women. So,
polygyny is a sexist cultural practice that has no genuine religious basis. It is a post original sin as well

Of course, there are many proverbs about polygamy and co wives. But proverbs do not have the same
weight as myths. Indeed, the former are humans sayings, whereas the latter are sacred literatures, so to
speak. Numerous African creation myths develop the idea that monogyny was the original practice
among creator gods and among the first human couples. After reading numerous creation myths, I
have identified five of them which substantiate this claim. These myths are representative of five
geographic areas of sub Saharan Africa, that is, the northern, southern, eastern, western, and central
Africa.
With the exception for The Plant of life, a Nyamwezi story, Tanzania, in which Shida Matunda created
all things as well as two women whom he took as wives, virtually all married divinities were
monogamists. Furthermore, in my research I came across only one instance in which a God gave the
original man, Moon, more than a wife, Morningstar and Eveningstar; but Moon was given the second
wife only after God had called the first one to go and live in the sky. Consequently, I contend that
African religions are not the authentic foundation of polygyny, or the practice of having more than one
wife or female mate at one time. What is more, the pursuit of personal immortality through
procreation could possibly be a

Questions On The Chinese Room
In Minds, Brains, and Programs John Searle objects to Computational Theory of Mind (CTM),
particularly that running a program on a computer and manipulating symbols does not mean that the
computer has understanding, or more generally a mind. In this paper I will first explain Searle s
Chinese Room, then I will explain CTM and how it relates to the Chinese Room. Following this I will
describe how the Chinese Room attacks the CTM. Next I will explain the Systems Reply to the
Chinese Room and how the Systems Reply actually undermines Searle s conclusion in the Chinese
Room. Then I will describe Searle s response to the Systems Reply and how that response undermines
the Systems Reply. Lastly, I will evaluate Searle s reply to the Systems Reply and defend the Systems
Reply against the points Searle raises against the Systems Reply. To explain the Chinese Room I will
first explain the instructions in the Chinese room; then I will explain how the man inside the room
manipulates these instructions. Finally, given that the man only operates the instructions, Searle s
conclusion is that the man does not understand Chinese. Therefore, the whole system does not
understand Chinese. The instructions in the room are a complex set of rules that guide the man inside
to receive inputs and produce outputs all written in Chinese. The instructions, written in English, tell
the man if you see this Chinese symbol paired with this Chinese symbol put down these Chinese

Reflective Essay On Service Learning
Service learning is always viewed as being something you just have to do. If you want a good grade,
then you do it, but you rush through it because you don t appreciate the opportunity. I used to think
about it that way because it seemed like it was just wasting my time. However, I ve discovered that the
older I get, the more I analyze things, whether it be school work or general life questions. Over the
summer, I had an abundance of time to think things through and work out everything in my mind. I
believe that service learning can help you realise your passion as it did with me. I volunteered at
Martin Millennium to help clean up their campus and revitalize the Earth on which their school stands.
I spread mulch in areas of dry soil and around the playground, so the kids could play without fear of
hurting themselves. We spread the mulch around the trees and by the walkways. I volunteered at the
Tender Mercies pet organization as well. I helped feed the dogs and walk them outside. I did the daily
routine of washing food bowls and dog blankets too. During my time volunteering at Tender Mercies,
I learned that no matter how many times you think you ve seen it all, you will always find something
to amaze you. I ve previously said that over the the summer, I thought about things and sometimes
thinking too much can lead to bad things. I don t really know why, but dogs have a way to sense when

Consequently, a loss in the artisan and artistic labor markets will have a greater effect on society than
just a loss in workforce numbers. A loss in artists, musicians, craftsmen, or any largely creativity

is technology damaging the arts, but also education. (Szekely, 2016, para.11 14) Budget cuts for art

Small communities called makerspaces help counter the effects of modernization. (Edu Cause, 2013,

innovation that allows members to create idea prototypes and experiment new technological
advancements. (Thompson, 2015, A World Without Work, p.56) The use of makerspaces can help
counter the negative effect of new technology against the workforce and encourages cooperation
between man and machine. It not only encourages creativity but also allows for socializing to those

Cal And Aron In John Steinbeck s East Of Eden
In the book East of Eden by John Steinbeck, Caleb and Aron are the twin sons of Adam and Cathy
Trask. Adam s relationship with Cal and Aron closely resembles that of the biblical Cain and Abel

step into the professional field. The knowledge can achieved from curriculum by following it.But the
hands on experience on the subject can be gained only through the extracurricular activities. So,
students should take some responsibility to participate in extracurricular activities. The advantages of
extracurricular activities are students can get more personal experience by involving in these activities
and gain more knowledge when compared to the knowledge obtained from theoretical concepts or
curriculum. The student who involves in extracurricular activities can easily survive in the
professional world while the student who only dependant on curriculum face some difficulties like
unable to make a right decision at right time, communication with peers and also face difficulty in
implementation of concepts . In this paper we collect both the data from the students who involved in
extracurricular activities and the data collected from academic curriculum of students in a semester.
This paper proposes that how extracurricular activities support the overall growth of student by using

Analysis Of Disney Company And Its Impact On The World Of...
Despite nearly all forms of modern media readily available at all times in the pockets of our jeans and
hoodies, influences from media on how people perceive gender and its surrounding issues is often
overlooked or ignored under the premise of normalization. One of the top contributors of media is The
Walt Disney Company and its affiliated companies such as ABC, Pixar, Touchstone Pictures,
Lucasfilm, and Marvel Entertainment, and from a young age many children grow up on the films,
characters, books, and television series that are produced by the Walt Disney Company. In the long
history of media produced by The Walt Disney Company, beginning with its early groundbreaking
animated shorts all the way to the recent Moana, Disney has been the subject of much debate,
criticism, and praise regarding its portrayal of male and female characters. All forms of media has
portrayed both genders in stereotypical ways (Lindsey, 2015, p. 414), and because Disney is a media
giant, there is a lot of material that is directed to children that influences how they perceive gender
from an early age on up, and Disney is no stranger to portraying men and women in stereotypical
ways, even in its most recent films and television series. Disney has usually depicted women as
princesses, queens, homemakers (Yerby, Baron, Lee, p. 4) and villains that pursue the goal of usurping
far younger protagonists goals of happily ever after. Men are nearly always portrayed as either the

Advantages Of Pair Trading
Pair trading can be carried out in many methods of which distance trading and co integration models
are the most important methods.
Gatev et al. (2006) test a pairs trading strategy over 1962 to 2002 and provide valuable insights into
the development of the risk and return characteristics over time. It is perhaps the most cited paper on
pairs trading and uses distance method. They form pairs over a twelve month period based on
minimizing the squared deviations between normalized price series of the two securities. They back
test a simple trading algorithm with daily data in the period 1962 2002 using S P 500 constituents and
find average annualised returns of up to 11% for portfolios of pairs. Although the proposed strategy is
profitable the authors note that returns have declined in recent years, possible due to increased
competition among hedge funds and/or a reduction in the importance of an underlying common factor
that drives the returns in a pairs trading strategy. A thorough analysis of the risk characteristics shows
that returns have a high risk adjusted alpha and an insignificant exposure to sources of systematic risk.

Physical exams are there to screen for the health of the penguins. Regular screenings help treat and
prevent disease, parasites, and other illnesses. Monthly weights are attainable with training. Penguins
can be trained to stand on a scale to allow for monthly weights which are great for seasonal changes
such as molting and breeding. Blood sampling are also great tools for monitoring glucose, calcium,
and many other blood component levels to look for deficiencies. During exams animals should have
their eyes, feet, beak and mouth for any potential problems. Molting is very stressful for penguins and
it uses a lot of energy thus requiring a nutritional change. Most penguins molt once a year after
breeding however the African penguin molts longer. One institution had African penguins that molted
every moth of the year between March and August. The molting period has both an increase in
appetite and a fasting period due to natural wild behavior where during the actual molting the
penguins would be stuck on land where food isn t avaible. Wild African penguins have been reported

Life s most important social interactions no longer rely on face to face exchanges. Brown s research
tells us that the internet has drastically re shaped our individual social lives over the distance of just a
couple of decades, luring us into a virtual world where traditional interactions such as living, loving,
belonging and separating require new protocols (Brown, A, 2011 p 29). For many in the future, the
path followed when falling in love may be via an online website. Dating sites, which we have once

Similarities and Differences of Paradise Lost and...
Between the two novels, Paradise Lost and Frankenstein, there are many striking similarities. What
makes these two books so wonderful to read is the author s ability to write about the ultimate struggle;
the struggle between God and Satan, or Good and Evil. The characters in Paradise Lost and in
Frankenstein seem to be very similar to one another. God and Victor Frankenstein have many
similarities. One of their similarities is that they are both creators of new life. The monster, Victor s
creation, also shows remarkable similarities, but not with God. The monster shows similarities with
Satan and Adam. At first these characters seem very plain and tasteless, but as the stories go on and
the characters become deeper beings, the interest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just as Satan and Adam both fall from God s grace, the monster appears to fall from the grace of his
God and his creator as well, Victor. Because the stories are so similar, it s almost as if the monster is
living the epic poem Paradise Lost!
In both novels the reader is able to feel sorrow for the evil beings. The reader almost feels compassion
for the beings suffering. Is this because we, as people, better relate to sin? It seems that the reader
wants to side with evil because even when our key examples, Adam and Eve, seem faultless, they can
t refuse to into a life of sin. Through this, the reader feels sympathy for someone or something that is
an outcast. Outcasts of these two stories are Adam and Eve to God, Satan to God, and the monster to
Victor. We, as readers, also begin to see the unfairness of our society today.
While most of Frankenstein resembles God and Satan or Gad and Adam, Eve is not forgotten. Eve is
just less noticeable. Mary Shelly did this on purpose. All of Mary Shelly s good verses bad
relationships seem superficially masculinized. By making Frankenstein more masculine, Mary Shelly
is pulling away from Milton s idea of Eve and his female illustration that the fall was due to a woman.
Whenever Paradise Lost is mentioned in Mary Shelly s novel, Frankenstein, Eve is always left out.
Eve is never mentioned. The absence of the Eve character is seen when the monster asks Victor for a
female companion. The monster

Existential Anxiety Via Self Preservation Essay
Ashley Martinez Professor Steven Adisasmito Smith Modern World Literature 12 December 2016
Existential Anxiety via Self Preservation To a man utterly without a sense of belonging, mere life is all
that matters. It is the only reality in an eternity of nothingness, and he clings to it with shameless
despair. ― Eric Hoffer In its most basic definition, an existential crisis occurs when a person feels out
of touch with their place in the world. They question why they are here as well as what determines
their leaving. In Leo Tolstoy s Hadji Murat and Wole Soyinka s Death and the King s Horseman, two
characters experience a similar reaction after failing to conform to societal expectations. For example,
in Hadji Murat, the titular character s shifting allegiance depends on whatever is in the best interest of
his family. He initially rejects his community leader s request for him to join the ghazavat or holy war
against the Russians (Tolstoy 335 464). After this refusal, Hadji Murat pledges his allegiance to the
latter whether he can actually be trusted or not is an entirely differently matter (Tolstoy 335 464). In
Wole Soyinka s Death and the King s Horseman, we have Elesin Oba, a character who fails to follow
his king in death because he still wishes to remain in the realm of the living (1049 1078). However,
based on existential theory, their existential crises manifest themselves in four different ways. That
being said, a closer

Title: Determination of the KM, VMax for an enzymatic reaction: The reaction of Trypsin with
Benzoyl Arginine P Nitroanalide (BAPNA)
Introduction: (Definitions)
KM: The substrate concentration at 1/2 the maximum velocity. Relates to the affinity the substrate has
for the enzyme
VMAX: The maximum velocity or rate at which the enzyme catalyzed a reaction. Amount of substrate
converted to product per unit of time when the enzyme is saturated with substrate
Trypsin: A serine protease that is present in pancreatic juice that are secreted into small intestine to
break down food. Secreted as Trypsinogen. Activated by an enteropeptidase, which cleaves a portion
of Trypsinogen to leave the activated form of Trypsin. Trypsin breaks down food proteins ... Show

Ideally for a Lineweaver Berk plot a positive linear slope is obtained and the Vmax and KM values are
obtained by putiing them equal to 1/y intercept and 1/x intercept respectively. However a positive
linear slope was not obtained, but a negative mostly linear slope, with one value skewing the data. In
order to calculate the Km and Vmax correctly a positive linear slope is needed, however as this is a
negative slope, it essentially flips the positive slope 90° Anti clockwise, resulting in the x and y
intercept being in different positions. A negative Km value of 0.0045 was obtained and the vmax was
found to 3.082. These values are incorrect for the experiment due to the negative slope. A negative
slope may have been obtained due to inaccurate make up of the original solution, possibly an error in
calculation but this shows that extreme attention to detail is required throughout all aspect of
experiments. A positive result for a Lineweaver Burk plot has been included for

Broken Family
Chapter I Problem and Its Setting Introduction Family is the basic components of the society. And the
researcher believes that the number one ingredients on youth s happy life are their family, that the
parents are the most important source of youth s behavior, which effect to their outlook in life. So if
the parents are separated, how does it affect the youth and what can they do about it? When parents
split up, there can be many emotions that a youth may have to deal with. These feelings, internalized
or expressed, will result in certain behavior that will possibly affect to the youth s outlook in life.
Being a broken hurts! It is the collapse of a God intended design. Children can get robbed ... Show

These children were also at higher risk for smoking, using drugs and consuming alcohol. Teenagers
from non intact families were more likely to be sexually active and had higher rates of pregnancy.
Girls from broken homes were at greatest risk for teenage pregnancy. The study also found that
children who were in a single parent or step parent home by the time they were ten were more than
twice as likely to be arrested by age 14. Children who never lived with their own father had the
highest likelihood of being arrested.[5] According to Patrick F. Fagan, Ph. D. that the children living
with the single mother are six times more likely to live in poverty than are children whose parents are
married.[6] According to Dr. Verna Hildebrand parenting involves many commitments and
responsibilities. Perhaps the greatest of this is helping a child develop a positive self concept and high
self esteem. With these assets, a child will be better able to make wise decisions, relate well to others,
and assume responsibilities for his or her life.[7] Conceptual Framework [pic] Figure 1 The paradigm
shows that both family, broken and complete, may affect the youth s outlook in life in relation to:
faith, family, moral, marriage, behavior towards others, decision making. Statement of the Problem
This study seeks to determine the Effects of Broken Family on Youth s Outlook in Life . Specifically,

The Benefits Of Marching Band
Many people can t see the benefits obtained by being in marching band. If one s social life isn t very
strong, and they aren t very extroverted, marching band is a great solution. My band, the Deltona High
School Blue Brigade, greatly encouraged bonding among band members because band is a family, not
just a music group. Marching band is also a sport. It s a team effort, requiring a lot of physical
exertion, and it gives a sense of competition. Marching band also teaches some hierarchy, which is a
useful thing to know in the workforce. Another important aspect of band is that it s a really good
experience. It may be stressful at times, but it is definitely worth it. Having been in band for seven
years, I can confirm all of this.
Because I have ADHD and Asperger Syndrome, I find it very hard to speak out and socialize. But
since I was in marching band in high school, I found that I was more social. People aren t supposed to
talk in the middle of rehearsal, but that didn t stop the members of my band from bonding outside of
practice time. Band definitely changed the life of a friend of mine. When I first met him in middle
school, he was so shy, he was virtually silent. Thanks to his experience in band, he now often speaks
his mind. Marching band can help many people become more social. After all, band isn t just a group
of people who play music. Band is a family.
A team sport includes two things: physical exertion and team effort. Marching band is both of these
things. It s

Pros And Cons Of Space Race
Do We Need Another Space Race? The possibility of a second space race has grown stronger than
ever recently. After the launch of the most affordable and the second most powerful rocket of all time,
the Falcon Heavy by SpaceX, the subject has been given new life. Following the successful launch,
Elon Musk, the head of SpaceX, stated that he wants to start a second space race. Already, his wish
has started coming true. After only a week after the first launch, many other companies have already
stated their own plans for rocket launches and development. However, throughout all the excitement
and speculations, people are forgetting to ask an important question: do we even need another space
race? The original space race took place from the estimated years of 1957 all the way through 1975,
starting with the launch of the first man made satellite, the Sputnik I, and ending with the Apollo
Soyuz mission, which contained a Soviet cosmonaut and an American astronaut shaking hands in
outer space, closing off the space race with a rather symbolic ending. During the space race, the
United States and the Soviet Union, who were the strongest nations in the world at the time, both
competed to make the most scientific and technological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are a few downsides scattered around that are either entirely unavoidable or just simply need to
be worked out. The biggest problem that would most likely form is the increased amount of pollution
that would result from a higher launch rate for rockets and other space fairing vehicles. The Falcon
Heavy rocket used around 970,034 pounds of fuel during the test flight from February of 2018.
SpaceX also plans on launching another rocket every two weeks sometime in the future, which would
unfortunately cause major environmental damage unless a new, less damaging fuel type or more
efficient propulsion method could be developed, or if SpaceX would change their plans to be a little

Plastic Surgery Ethics Essay
Plastic surgery is a rapidly evolving field spread around the world. Plastic surgery deals with human
appearance and is becoming a more profitable business throughout the years. It is divided into two
sections, reconstructive and cosmetic surgery. An ethical dilemma that corresponds to plastic surgery
is the loss of human values patients encounter once they undergo surgery. Also, individuals that
depend on cosmetic surgery detract from patients that are in urgent need of these procedures. The
replacement of misleading values, pride and, joy through surgery creates unrealistic dreams for
patients. The patient and doctor relationship created under these circumstances is viewed as a
therapeutic purpose due to the feeling of being healed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The abuse of plastic surgery over the years has gotten out of control. Due to the high demand for
fillers, laser, and Botox, physicians perform cosmetic procedures that are non surgical with no
training. Society has unofficially banned wrinkles, fat deposits, and sun damaged skin. An ethical
concern for patients and healthcare providers is that these so called problems should be enhanced and
dealt with rather than result in aesthetic surgery. Although body image is important to certain people,
the outer image does not define a human being. The real value of a person cannot be reduced to his/her
appearance, and medicine as an art, should feel the obligation to resist these modern ideologies and
should attempt to help people get a more authentic attitude about themselves. (Mousavi, 2010) If a
person is unhappy with himself or herself, they should rely on a more natural solution. Aesthetic
surgery should only be an option for people that have suffered an accident or born with a deformity.
Having small lips, tiny wrinkles, beauty marks, or dark hair is not a deformity, they re simply things
the body produces over the years. An

  • 2. Analysis Of Harrisburg University Of Science And... Executive Summary Harrisburg University of Science and Technology located at 326 Market Street, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania 17101 is a growing major educational hub which is attracting more students and faculty per every passing year. As a result of which, there is a growing need to accommodate all the vehicles and cars that the students and faculty uses to get to the University. The current location of the university is right in the middle of Downtown Harrisburg and therefore the constraints on the parking situation are pretty stringent. Harrisburg University, apart from regular day to day classes, also holds executive classes for online students thereby keeping the number of attendees to the school equally high even on the select weekends. As of January 11, 2016, the University had 400 undergraduate, 2600 graduate students and 150 full and part time faculty and staff. [1] The University only has one (1) 16 story academic building and the Harrisburg Parking Authority operates a garage within the same building. This garage, opened in 2005, is a 9 floor parking sandwiched in the 16 story are hidden from the view so that the building has more of a presence in the Downtown area [2]. Apart from this allotted parking, Street Parking may be available and is free on the Weekends and after 5:00 PM on Weekdays. This proposal is initiated as a result of the growing need for a more comprehensive approach to plan the campus parking , both as it relates to current campus activity and ... Even more so is that you could get emotionally connected to that game. Those games, especially violent ones, can be an outlet of aggression for those who feel more angry. However, what happens when this outlet does not fulfil the satisfaction of letting out aggression anymore? What if someone went out into the real world and did the actions in their violent games? As you can see, this could totally happen and this is why games that simulate violence could cause aggression in some people (DO VIDEO GAMES CAUSE VIOLENCE?). This evidence shows that even if people play violent games to let their aggression out, it may not do the job and they could go do crimes out in the real world. People who do these crimes inspired by video games usually do this to let out their aggression or do it because they enjoy it. Another piece of evidence is that those who are addicted to violent games have more aggression. • 4. Unanswered Essay Unanswered In life, there is a set of questions that causes people to question their purpose in the world. These questions were designed to be simply that; questions. They have no answer and once the answer seems to become apparent, it changes into a defining moment, according to Jim Tilley. These defining moments that were once questions are the things that document our lives and how far we have come. Jim Tilley wrote the poem The Big Questions to talk about and parallel these things with everyday life. The big questions are big only/ because they have never been answered (line 1/2). Some may say that it was by chance while others may say that it was fate. Tilley chose to end line 9 with the phrase can t because that is a phrase that constantly floats around the pessimistic mind. It wrestles with the fact that there are always situations in which one feels as though they can t . However, the answer to that question is clear to the bear who has determined that you are going to be his lunch. The grizzly bear is a metaphor for a problem encountered in life. The three options used to rationalize what to do when encountering a bear also parallel to what to do in a tough situation. When faced with a problem, everyone has a different rationalization to deal with it. The options are a constant that can be applied to any circumstance in life: run away, confront it or sit aside and wait. What we do in tough situations directly correlates to our response in previous life experiences. In the past, these tough situations were big questions that made us wonder the typical why did this have to happen to me? Tilley refers to these as defining moments. These defining moments are the things that further our experiences and what help to shape us. So this can be a defining moment, /but not a big question... (Line 20/21). Tilley seems to make a point that the big questions will all ultimately turn into defining moments. As anyone would realize while ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Causes And Effects Of Witchcraft Thesis: Beginning in roughly 1450 continuing to around 1750, a fear of witchcraft in Europe led to many years of witch hunts and executions of a multitude of individuals, an estimated 70% of those accused being women. The idea of witches and witchcraft caused people to begin accusing others of almost anything, the accused becoming scapegoats for the people of Europe. The witches were defined as problems for cities and state to the people because they brought death, illness, failure of crops, misfortune and evil wherever they went, and they worshipped the devil, God s powerful, malicious enemy. Reasons for being defined as problems/Introduction: Starting in the 15th century, the idea of witchcraft began to spread throughout Europe. Accusations were made against so called witches who rejected Jesus and the holy sacraments and worshipped Satan (the devil). Inevitable and unforeseen accidents and casualties began to be blamed on suspicious people in villages, primarily women. Some of these accidents included disease, death on humans or livestock, injuries, men being sexually impotent, destruction of crops, and burning of towns. Many people who prepared herbal remedies were targets of the witch hunts, especially if their medicines failed to heal a patient. Analyzing Virginia Derryberry s Bonaventure Painting While there are many beautiful and thought provoking works of art to choose from, Bonaventure, painted by Virginia Derryberry, piqued my interest with its vibrant color and life. Honestly, I have not visited many museums, but Virginia s interpretation of Savannah s famous Bonaventure cemetery leaves me wanting to visit more museums. While browsing the museum there were few that really captured my attention and mesmerized me. I will take this opportunity to describe, analyze, interpret, and judge Virginia s Bonaventure. One of their purposes is to balance out the entirety of the piece. The flowers are also complementary colors that makes the piece vibrant and harmonious. The placement and color draw the viewers eyes, using line of sight, first to the flowers, then to the sculptures. Bonaventure is also full of curved lines, most prominently in the flowers and swan, which gives a very soothing affect, leaving the viewer relaxed. Virginia used several hues and values in the entire painting to create depth and intensity in the painting, giving it vibrant coloring. This gives the painting a very light feeling, contrasting with the cemetery setting. Although Bonaventure is a two dimensional piece of art, Virginia uses space and placement to give the appearance of three dimensions. She overlaps objects several times, such as flowers in front of a pedestal, or a figure in front of trees. Techniques such as this creates the illusion of a three dimensional image. To add to the illusion, she introduces light with shading and shadow to create the effect of a brightly shinning sun. Next I will use my analysis of Bonaventure to interpret her piece. Cummings is commonly associated with his peculiar ideas about punctuation; he lacked punctuation and structure frequently. I think this poem is about a small community where everyone is concerned with his or her own actions, never caring about neighbors or other members of the community. • 12. Media Self Esteem At times, it can be hurtful when we do not get that attention that our friends get on social media as this makes us feel as if we are nothing in this world. Michelle Linker can be equated with approval or self esteem as she was a daily user of Instagram. She told her guardian that she feels anxiety over the likes she got after she posted her pictures on his Instagram page. She said that she got only two likes and she would ask herself what was really wrong with her. This greatly influenced her and lowered her self esteem because she felt low and considered herself as a child of a lesser God compared to her followers. In reality, when we all post something such as pictures of our own and don t get a lot of likes, we always feel rejected which ultimately causes our self esteem to take a hit. This will always affect our mind as a lot of question will ring each moment why we can be rejected. When we get likes on our pages of Instagram or Facebook, the reward system in the brain is activated, and thus releases dopamine, which causes individuals to associate likes with the same pleasure we may get or feel from taking narcotics or any other drug that when you take, you feel well (Lin et al. 326). Each moment we spend on social media sites such as Facebook and compare ourselves to others, the more our self esteem lowers and the more we also get depressed. As one of the largest law firms within the borders of the United States, the responsibility of my organization extends to both criminal and civil matters. Those dependent upon our services are those who are warranted by justice to be made whole: society at large. The outcome of each assessment or evaluation process tends to directly and indirectly hinge on the handling and processing of each of these elements. The District is divided into two primary areas and each area is assigned specific foci to center resources and efforts. Therefore, the framework or outline of District as well as the organization as a whole can be analyzed from the perspective of an open system. An open system as Harrison and Shirom (1999) explains is product by which a whole entity operates based on individually functioning parts simultaneously in order to achieve the system s goals. According to Katz and Kahn (1971), there are essentially nine working components of an open system. These nine characteristics are typically common to various types of open systems and can be thusly applicable to my current organization as follows. Importation of Energy: Based on the potential energy theory, the idea of importation of energy recognizes that energy is delivered into the system through other sources or stimuli. Katz and Kahn (1971) argued that no social structure is self sufficient or self contained (p. 21). • 17. Theme Of Character Development In To Kill A Mockingbird The two main storylines in Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird are the trial of Tom Robinson, who is accused of raping a girl, and the mystery around Arthur Boo Radley. Throughout the story, we can see the character development of young Jean Louise Scout Finch through these two events which is one of the indicators that this book falls into the category of Coming of age literature. Other elements however indicate that To Kill a Mockingbird can be seen as a Gothic Novel or even a subgenre of Gothic namely Southern Gothic. The characteristics of a character in a Gothic Novel are a virginal maiden or a damsel in distress who is young, pure, innocent and kind. Other characters include a hero, a villain, a madman, ruffians or even supernatural beings. The damsel in distress, who is to be saved by a male person, is not the main character Scout in this case, since it would sexualize a child if she were to be portrayed as a virginal maiden, but the daughter of Mr. Ewell, Mayella. Even though To Kill a Mockingbird does not feature supernatural elements which are arguably some of the most prominent features of Gothic literature it can still be considered a Gothic novel since it fulfills most of the other criteria. This is widely used for the President. 43 different presidents; each with at least one inauguration speech, and I still see Ronald Reagan s speech as an inspiring verbalization; it is better than all the other inaugurations. It is spoken well, and tells of his intentions for when he becomes president. It gave the people of the United States something to look forward to; something to believe in. He made sure that his point was across and was understood to all that observed it. Ronald Reagan s inauguration was inspirational, and gave full understanding to all Americans. Nikki Davis Abstract In this tax season, when billions of dollars and tons of personal information is relayed to and from the government, it s more than disconcerting to hear that the Internal Revenue Service is still struggling to keep private information secure. The purpose of my study is to improve the safeguard of taxpayers data at the Internal Revenue Service. Due to the fact that firewalls are in place and transaction monitoring is also in place; yet, taxpayers data is still being exploited. MEMPHIS An Internal Revenue Service employee in Memphis has been indicted on charges of filing false tax returns and stealing data from the agency. The U.S. attorney s office said in a news release today that Farrah Jones of Memphis, who was hired as a tax examining technician in 2001, used the data for returns she filed for herself and others. Prosecutors said Jones obtained dependent information from IRS files and used the data on tax returns she prepared, knowing that the taxpayers were not entitled to claim these dependents. This allegedly occurred for a year ending in February 2007. She was arrested Thursday and released on $5,000 bond. • 22. What s Internal Electrical System Controls The Rate And... So, what is an arrhythmia? An arrhythmia is a problem with the rate and rhythm of the heart. The heart can either beat too fast, too slow, or with an irregular rhythm. Arrhythmias can also cause the heart to inefficiently pump blood to the body and other organs which can lead to damage in the brain, heart, other organs and can ultimately lead to heart failure. Although most arrhythmias are non life threatening, they can develop into a serious problem. To better understand arrhythmias, it helps to understand the heart s internal electrical system. The heart s internal electrical system controls the rate and rhythm of each heartbeat. Each heartbeat sends off an electric impulse that tells the heart to contract and pump blood. The electric signal first begins in a group of cells known as the sinoatrial cells or to state simply, the SA node. The SA node is located within the wall of the heart s upper right chamber, the right atrium. In a healthy adult heart, the SA node fires off an electrical signal to begin each heartbeat 60 100 times per minute. From here, the electrical impulse travels through special pathways in the atria, making the atria contract and pump blood into the heart s two lower chambers, the ventricles. The electric signal then passes through a group of cells called the atrioventricular node or the AV node, located between the atrium and the ventricles. Here, the electric signal slows down, allowing the ventricles with enough time to finish filling with blood. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mummification And Death Rituals Of Ancient Egypt In ancient Egypt, scarabs (a sacred large dung beetle from the Mediterranean area) first appeared in the late Old Kingdom (c. 2575 c. 2130 BCE) and were used for the living, as a sign of good luck. Then when they evolved from the so called button seals scarabs, they remained rare until Middle Kingdom times (1938 c. 1630 BCE). This was because they were now being associated with the afterlife and death. Some were used simply as ornaments and decoration, while others were purely sacred in purpose, such as the large basalt heart scarabs of the New Kingdom (1539 1075 BCE). Later they were also placed in the bandages of mummies and were symbolically identified with the heart of the deceased. (Lace, William. Mummification and Death Rituals of Ancient ... • 24. Charles Perrault’s Cinderella In Cinderella by Charles Perrault, the story depicts an imaginative fairytale through the hardships of a mistreated daughter and the magic of a fairy; in essence, Cinderella demonstrates that focusing on materialism is more important and more effective other than working up the path to majesty. Cinderella is a character who is often mistreated by her stepmother and god sisters. Bearing unsuitable personalities, they treat her harshly, leaving all of the chores to her. However, she admits that her tattered clothes are not worthy of a formal event, and continues to be belittled by her stepsisters. Portrayed with low self esteem and insecurity, she does not respond harshly to their cruel insults. As a result, the main character relies on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, her true beauty lies within her skin, as Perrault s interprets Cinderella as a hundred times more handsome than her sisters . He aims to focus more on female recognition and self fulfillment, rather than provide a base for all readers to understand fully (Hühn). At an elementary level, this may not influence children to an extent, but other stories that reproduce this same structure of plot elements could possibly influence children in the future. For instance, she was not the hero of the story. The Prince isn t the hero until he discovers her lost possession, a glass slipper, and searched for the person that fits. As told by Perrault, he had done nothing but look at her all the time, and that most certainly he was very much in love with the beautiful owner of the glass slipper. This enforces the fact that her beauty prevails over her actual personality but not behavior, and the appearance and mannerisms surely impressed the Prince. The Prince stereotypes the role of women being in need of a destined lover. He is the one that identifies Cinderella as the one in the dress, though excluding behavior, her appearance dazzles him for two nights at the ball. Most importantly, he s not the hero of the fairytale, but readers can interpret the fairy godmother as the savior of Cinderella s demise. The role of magic comes in part with the acceptance of achieving the imagery of an elegant woman, impressing the Prince who gains interest in her. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Polygyny in Africa Essay Polygyny in Africa Whereas numerous African creation myths are supportive of cultural practices such as circumcision, there are very few, if any, creation myths that justify polygyny. There are many proverbs about polygamy. However, proverbs do not have the same weight as myths in explaining why certain things should be the way they are. African creation myths suggest that monogyny was the original practice not only among creator gods, but also among the original humans. The pursuit of immortality through procreation is noble. Numerous African creation myths develop the idea that monogyny was the original practice among creator gods and among the first human couples. After reading numerous creation myths, I have identified five of them which substantiate this claim. These myths are representative of five geographic areas of sub Saharan Africa, that is, the northern, southern, eastern, western, and central Africa. With the exception for The Plant of life, a Nyamwezi story, Tanzania, in which Shida Matunda created all things as well as two women whom he took as wives, virtually all married divinities were monogamists. Furthermore, in my research I came across only one instance in which a God gave the original man, Moon, more than a wife, Morningstar and Eveningstar; but Moon was given the second wife only after God had called the first one to go and live in the sky. Consequently, I contend that African religions are not the authentic foundation of polygyny, or the practice of having more than one wife or female mate at one time. They back test a simple trading algorithm with daily data in the period 1962 2002 using S P 500 constituents and find average annualised returns of up to 11% for portfolios of pairs. Although the proposed strategy is profitable the authors note that returns have declined in recent years, possible due to increased competition among hedge funds and/or a reduction in the importance of an underlying common factor that drives the returns in a pairs trading strategy. • 41. Similarities and Differences of Paradise Lost and... Between the two novels, Paradise Lost and Frankenstein, there are many striking similarities. What makes these two books so wonderful to read is the author s ability to write about the ultimate struggle; the struggle between God and Satan, or Good and Evil. The characters in Paradise Lost and in Frankenstein seem to be very similar to one another. God and Victor Frankenstein have many similarities. One of their similarities is that they are both creators of new life. The monster, Victor s creation, also shows remarkable similarities, but not with God. The monster shows similarities with Satan and Adam. At first these characters seem very plain and tasteless, but as the stories go on and the characters become deeper beings, the interest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Just as Satan and Adam both fall from God s grace, the monster appears to fall from the grace of his God and his creator as well, Victor. Because the stories are so similar, it s almost as if the monster is living the epic poem Paradise Lost! In both novels the reader is able to feel sorrow for the evil beings. The reader almost feels compassion for the beings suffering. Is this because we, as people, better relate to sin? It seems that the reader wants to side with evil because even when our key examples, Adam and Eve, seem faultless, they can t refuse to into a life of sin. Through this, the reader feels sympathy for someone or something that is an outcast. Outcasts of these two stories are Adam and Eve to God, Satan to God, and the monster to Victor. We, as readers, also begin to see the unfairness of our society today. While most of Frankenstein resembles God and Satan or Gad and Adam, Eve is not forgotten. Eve is just less noticeable. Mary Shelly did this on purpose. All of Mary Shelly s good verses bad relationships seem superficially masculinized. By making Frankenstein more masculine, Mary Shelly is pulling away from Milton s idea of Eve and his female illustration that the fall was due to a woman. Whenever Paradise Lost is mentioned in Mary Shelly s novel, Frankenstein, Eve is always left out. Eve is never mentioned. The absence of the Eve character is seen when the monster asks Victor for a female companion. The monster ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Existential Anxiety Via Self Preservation Essay Ashley Martinez Professor Steven Adisasmito Smith Modern World Literature 12 December 2016 Existential Anxiety via Self Preservation To a man utterly without a sense of belonging, mere life is all that matters. It is the only reality in an eternity of nothingness, and he clings to it with shameless despair. ― Eric Hoffer In its most basic definition, an existential crisis occurs when a person feels out of touch with their place in the world. They question why they are here as well as what determines their leaving. In Leo Tolstoy s Hadji Murat and Wole Soyinka s Death and the King s Horseman, two characters experience a similar reaction after failing to conform to societal expectations. For example, in Hadji Murat, the titular character s shifting allegiance depends on whatever is in the best interest of his family. He initially rejects his community leader s request for him to join the ghazavat or holy war against the Russians (Tolstoy 335 464). After this refusal, Hadji Murat pledges his allegiance to the latter whether he can actually be trusted or not is an entirely differently matter (Tolstoy 335 464). In Wole Soyinka s Death and the King s Horseman, we have Elesin Oba, a character who fails to follow his king in death because he still wishes to remain in the realm of the living (1049 1078). However, based on existential theory, their existential crises manifest themselves in four different ways. That being said, a closer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Relates to the affinity the substrate has for the enzyme VMAX: The maximum velocity or rate at which the enzyme catalyzed a reaction. Amount of substrate converted to product per unit of time when the enzyme is saturated with substrate Trypsin: A serine protease that is present in pancreatic juice that are secreted into small intestine to break down food. Secreted as Trypsinogen. Activated by an enteropeptidase, which cleaves a portion of Trypsinogen to leave the activated form of Trypsin. Trypsin breaks down food proteins ... Ideally for a Lineweaver Berk plot a positive linear slope is obtained and the Vmax and KM values are obtained by putiing them equal to 1/y intercept and 1/x intercept respectively. However a positive linear slope was not obtained, but a negative mostly linear slope, with one value skewing the data. In order to calculate the Km and Vmax correctly a positive linear slope is needed, however as this is a negative slope, it essentially flips the positive slope 90° Anti clockwise, resulting in the x and y intercept being in different positions. A negative Km value of 0.0045 was obtained and the vmax was found to 3.082. These values are incorrect for the experiment due to the negative slope. A negative slope may have been obtained due to inaccurate make up of the original solution, possibly an error in calculation but this shows that extreme attention to detail is required throughout all aspect of experiments. A positive result for a Lineweaver Burk plot has been included for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The study also found that children who were in a single parent or step parent home by the time they were ten were more than twice as likely to be arrested by age 14. Children who never lived with their own father had the highest likelihood of being arrested.[5] According to Patrick F. Fagan, Ph. D. that the children living with the single mother are six times more likely to live in poverty than are children whose parents are married.[6] According to Dr. Verna Hildebrand parenting involves many commitments and responsibilities. Perhaps the greatest of this is helping a child develop a positive self concept and high self esteem. With these assets, a child will be better able to make wise decisions, relate well to others, and assume responsibilities for his or her life.[7] Conceptual Framework [pic] Figure 1 The paradigm shows that both family, broken and complete, may affect the youth s outlook in life in relation to: faith, family, moral, marriage, behavior towards others, decision making. • 45. The Benefits Of Marching Band Many people can t see the benefits obtained by being in marching band. If one s social life isn t very strong, and they aren t very extroverted, marching band is a great solution. My band, the Deltona High School Blue Brigade, greatly encouraged bonding among band members because band is a family, not just a music group. Marching band is also a sport. It s a team effort, requiring a lot of physical exertion, and it gives a sense of competition. Marching band also teaches some hierarchy, which is a useful thing to know in the workforce. Another important aspect of band is that it s a really good experience. It may be stressful at times, but it is definitely worth it. Having been in band for seven years, I can confirm all of this. Because I have ADHD and Asperger Syndrome, I find it very hard to speak out and socialize. But since I was in marching band in high school, I found that I was more social. People aren t supposed to talk in the middle of rehearsal, but that didn t stop the members of my band from bonding outside of practice time. Band definitely changed the life of a friend of mine. When I first met him in middle school, he was so shy, he was virtually silent. Thanks to his experience in band, he now often speaks his mind. Marching band can help many people become more social. After all, band isn t just a group of people who play music. Band is a family. A team sport includes two things: physical exertion and team effort. Marching band is both of these things. It s ... • 46. Pros And Cons Of Space Race Do We Need Another Space Race? The possibility of a second space race has grown stronger than ever recently. After the launch of the most affordable and the second most powerful rocket of all time, the Falcon Heavy by SpaceX, the subject has been given new life. Following the successful launch, Elon Musk, the head of SpaceX, stated that he wants to start a second space race. Already, his wish has started coming true. After only a week after the first launch, many other companies have already stated their own plans for rocket launches and development. However, throughout all the excitement and speculations, people are forgetting to ask an important question: do we even need another space race? The original space race took place from the estimated years of 1957 all the way through 1975, starting with the launch of the first man made satellite, the Sputnik I, and ending with the Apollo Soyuz mission, which contained a Soviet cosmonaut and an American astronaut shaking hands in outer space, closing off the space race with a rather symbolic ending. During the space race, the United States and the Soviet Union, who were the strongest nations in the world at the time, both competed to make the most scientific and technological ... The biggest problem that would most likely form is the increased amount of pollution that would result from a higher launch rate for rockets and other space fairing vehicles. The Falcon Heavy rocket used around 970,034 pounds of fuel during the test flight from February of 2018. SpaceX also plans on launching another rocket every two weeks sometime in the future, which would unfortunately cause major environmental damage unless a new, less damaging fuel type or more efficient propulsion method could be developed, or if SpaceX would change their plans to be a little less ... Plastic surgery deals with human appearance and is becoming a more profitable business throughout the years. It is divided into two sections, reconstructive and cosmetic surgery. An ethical dilemma that corresponds to plastic surgery is the loss of human values patients encounter once they undergo surgery. Also, individuals that depend on cosmetic surgery detract from patients that are in urgent need of these procedures. The replacement of misleading values, pride and, joy through surgery creates unrealistic dreams for patients. The patient and doctor relationship created under these circumstances is viewed as a therapeutic purpose due to the feeling of being healed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The abuse of plastic surgery over the years has gotten out of control. Due to the high demand for fillers, laser, and Botox, physicians perform cosmetic procedures that are non surgical with no training. Society has unofficially banned wrinkles, fat deposits, and sun damaged skin. An ethical concern for patients and healthcare providers is that these so called problems should be enhanced and dealt with rather than result in aesthetic surgery. Although body image is important to certain people, the outer image does not define a human being. The real value of a person cannot be reduced to his/her appearance, and medicine as an art, should feel the obligation to resist these modern ideologies and should attempt to help people get a more authentic attitude about themselves. (Mousavi, 2010) If a person is unhappy with himself or herself, they should rely on a more natural solution. Aesthetic surgery should only be an option for people that have suffered an accident or born with a deformity. Having small lips, tiny wrinkles, beauty marks, or dark hair is not a deformity, they re simply things the body produces over the years. An ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
