Media Violence Statistics

Title
In the United States, there has been an increasing amount of mass shootings and similar violent crimes
every year. Within the last decade, the rate of violent crimes has spiralled too far out of control for the
people to understand why. This sudden increase in violent crimes has left everyone stumbling for a
cause or a reason for the spike in the trend. As of late, many have turned the blame to guns, to
education, and lastly to violent media. Since the early 2000 s violent media has become far more
popular than before. In fact, many say that now is the epoch of violent video games, and that the
violent movie industry is just growing. Because of the correlation between the increased popularity ...

Many studies conducted across the board have proven that increased exposure is directly related to an
elevated level of aggression. For example, as reported by Dave Larsen of Dayton Daily News, in the
article Study: Violent Video Games Increase Aggression , a study conducted by the Ohio State
University found that people who played violent video games for very brief increments of time over
the period of three days would be far more aggressive when interacting with others. Along with this,
violent video game players were always expecting more aggression from others than did the players of
nonviolent video games. Larsen also reported that the behavior of the nonviolent video games
remained stable and unchanged for the duration of the entire experiment, while violent video game
players were found to be constantly reaching higher levels of aggravation(Larsen

Understanding The Core Variables That Affect Our Lives Essay
Aging, although a quite evasive and rather frightening thought, is an inevitable process that occurs to
every form of life, regardless of genetic makeup or origin, and it is a fundamental mechanism in which
our universe/cosmos is able to fuel itself with and ultimately flourish on. It is simply invariable, in
order for there to be creation and rebirth, there needs to be the set process that eventually leads to
death and reconversion in a perpetual system/method of sustenance. Understanding the core variables
that affect these processes are essential because they allow us to gain a deeper insight into what it
means to age, both physically and mentally, but more importantly, how to live our current lives to
ensure a happy, gratifying, and fuller existence.
For my Aging Process assignment, I have chosen to interview my grandfather Joe Pacheco. He is a
currently retired man who is approximately 84 years of age, and presently resides in sunny Thousand
Oaks, California. Never being too prominent in my life at a young age, apart from occasional family
gatherings and outings, there wasn t too much that I really knew about him before this, so choosing
him for my interview assignment was in a way metaphorically killing two birds with one stone. The
things that I DID know were that he was a veteran who went on to work in the fire department for a
large portion of his career and was now retired in California after his divorce, in which he was
apparently ecstatic about. Having spoken to

Bone Or Chappie In Russell Banks s Rule Of The Bone
Bone or Chappie is the main character in the novel Rule of the Bone Written by Russell Banks. Bone
is a fourteen year old teenager, who fails out of school; his life was a total mess for many reasons.
Although he was so young, still he was already hooked on drugs consequently crimes, one of the
major issues that have enormous impact on his life is that his stepfather was abusing him secretly
without his mother knowing anything about it, Bone didn t tell his mother anything not even an
inkling even though they live in the same house. He is the product of a broken family, sexual abuse,
drugs, and parental apathy. Until now, it sounds undoubted dark picture, but the bright side of the
picture is what I like about Bone, that he never gave up his life and constantly in search of himself or I
self like how I man like to phrase it so to speak. Creative chaos could lead a terrible situation into a
success; suffering is not always a dreadful path because it could turn into strength. What does not kill

Summary Of Aldo Leopold s Land Ethic
Just because we can t share sell shares in nature doesn t mean it has no value (Thomas Friedman).
Planet Earth, as we all know, is an astonishingly complex and delicate network of dependent systems
that have developed gradually over the past 4.6 billion years or so. Slowly, structured elements we
refer to as nature evolved into significant components of the earth. Ironically, humans with their
notably shorter period on earth have come to dominate and manipulate the landscape to the point of
environmental degradation. Aldo Leopold s Land Ethic addresses this issue by challenging the way
humans look at nature and its resources. He insists on the practice of moral responsibility to land by
enlarging the boundaries of our community alongside elements like animals, plants, and ecosystems
(Leopold, Land Ethic ) Leopold appeals to emotion by showcasing the real value that lies within
nature and its beauty rather than the economic value that creates only selfishness in individuals.
Virginia Woolf is also able to emotionally engage readers in her essay Death of a Moth by depicting
the real struggle between life and death with a Moth s struggle for survival that ultimately ends with
death. With her implementation of rhetorical devices, she s able to provoke a sense of pity and
emotional connection towards the animal. By looking at Woolf s essay through Leopold s Land of
Ethic, the ability to see nature as an equal member of our community rather than that of inferiority

Dirt Bike Usa
Dirt Bikes USA
Background: Dirt Bikes USA was founded in 1991 by Carl Schmidt and Steven McFadden. These two
entrepreneurs saw the increasing demand for Dirt bikes, and took the initiative to capitalize on their
idea. These two former bikers took their knowledge of dirt bikes and their love of the sport and
developed on that foundation. Their idea was to give the customer a product that was aptly suited for
the specific needs of the customer. Also the duo wanted to give something more than just a bike, they
wanted to provide the highest possible satisfaction at a reduced cost than their competitors. To reach
this goal they developed frames for dirt bikes that were more suited to off road handling and started

A better way to read the model is to say that the organization structure is sort of flat, hence it is still a
growing company, but 5 different groups report to one department and then that department as well as
two others report to the CEO and COO as aptly outlined by the model. With little expertise in the E
commerce business, it gives Dirt Bikes competitors a slight advantage in marketing its products on the
web.
The Problem: Dirt Bikes USA do not have an adequate internet based platform as to which it can
sell its products. This means that its competitors have the advantage to sell in prime estate areas that
would normally be essential to Dirt Bikes success. To overcome this problem the implementation of a
web site and more software are a necessity. To implement systems such as SAP or an Oracle system,
Dirt bikes will need to invest some serious money into the transition. However some downfalls that
arise when technology is introduced into a company include, teaching the staff to use the technology
effectively and intelligently, lost money at the point of implementation, and the possibility for the
system to crash if not set up properly. Dirt Bikes will also need a user friendly, visually stimulating,
easy to navigate web site. This means that more money will need to be spent in order to get the ball
rolling on this new transition. Because Dirt Bikes do not sell directly to retail customers, it relies on a
network of 40 distributors concentrated in

Italian Culture and Change
The World. A spherical globe filled with a multitude of different cultures, nations, and ethnicities. Yet
we are all part of the same planet, the same singular race of humanity. When assigned with this
assignment to choose one country out of this vast array, we went with one that one of our group
members was most familiar with. We chose the beautiful European country and cultural center of Italy.
It was one that one of our group members had personally visited within the last year and her
experience gave us some amazing insight into what the actual culture of Italy consisted of. It was
much more enlightening than reading any book, although those sources were just as helpful in the
researched conducted. With this decision we reached the verdict that we would be doing the
Contemporary World Issues Project. Then after careful consideration we decided to focus the research
and project on the overall change in Italy s population, examining factors like migration, ethnic
marriages, foreign residents, and changing cultural values. We also wanted to cover the overall change
in Italian culture with the decline in traditional craft making processes and the overall industrialization
in the Italian manufacturing and agricultural sectors.
The project was started by dividing up the actual needed information into sections for each of the
participants to research on their own. We decided to gather up basic information about different
sectors of the Italian world/culture. We divided up into

ended up out of country. The current outcome of the Sixties Scoop is still unresolved; it was only in
2010 that a class action suit was brought to the courts in Ontario and 2011 from survivors in British

The Failure Of Northern Rock In The Light Of Banking...
The Failure of Northern Rock in the Light of Banking Economics and Regulation
Introduction
Increasing global connectivity and integration in today s world ensures that almost any serious
problem has worldwide ramifications. The global financial system can serve as a key example of this
phenomenon. Very recently, Britain s fifth largest mortgage lender Northern Rock was rescued by
emergency funding from the Bank of England. This made the Newcastle based firm the highest profile
UK victim of the global credit crunch that had been triggered by the sub prime mortgage crisis in the
US. The bank run on Northern Rock that followed was unprecedented in recent UK monetary history.
The Overend Guerney crash of 1866 was the last recorded bank run ... Show more content on

The crisis broke in August when French bank BNP Paribas suspended three of its investment funds
with exposures to the troubled US sub prime market. Since it was believed that many banks had
invested in similar securities, many banks felt that they did not know enough about the solvency of the
banks to which they may lend to and how much losses they had suffered as a result of their exposures
in the impaired US mortgage market. Subsequently, the lending on the inter bank market came to a
halt.
Northern Rock s Business Model
Although all banks were facing greater than normal difficulties in acquiring funds given the lack of
credit that was available on the global institutional debt markets, Northern Rock was hit harder than
most. Its core business was, and still is, residential mortgage lending. Northern Rock was the biggest
provider of mortgages in the UK in the first half of 2007. It sold up to 19% of all new mortgage
policies during that time. However, it had a comparatively smaller deposit base meaning that most of
its funding came from sources besides deposits from ordinary retail customers. Famously, seventy five
percent of its funding came from the wholesale money markets and just twenty five percent from retail
funding. Additionally, like many other banks, Northern Rock extensively engaged in packaging many
of its mortgage assets into special purpose companies and raised funds in the wholesale market by

The Themed Land Concept Of Parks
The Themed Lands Concept
All Disney theme parks are designed based on themed lands. In each land, the theme is reflected in the
surrounding infrastructure, the appearance of employees, the character of food and other franchises,
and the entertainment (Curwen, 1995, p.15). The original Disneyland in California was designed with
a land that acts as a throughway to guide guests to the castle, Main Street, USA. From the castle, the
other themed lands jut out like spokes of a wheel with the castle being the main focal point of the
theme park. The Magic Kingdom in Orlando, Tokyo Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, and Hong Kong
Disneyland all follow the same original layout of the park in California. Most of the theme parks
across the world include ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Main Street, USA represents a time of a wholesome America to many guests and while walking down
Main Street, USA, they feel a sense nostalgia. For this reason, the moment guests step into a Disney
theme park, America thus becomes the dominant narrative of the park, with the majority of its lands
devoted to telling the stories of American history (Philips, 2002, p.34). Although this land does not
host any attractions, it does have shops and eateries for guests to stop by on their way to and from the
castle and the rest of the theme park.
Although Tokyo Disneyland claims to be a replica of Disneyland in California, there are a lot of
differences between the two theme parks. When building the theme park, the Oriental Land Company
modified a few themed lands and attractions so that themes nostalgic for Americans but meaningless
for the Japanese have been renamed and recontextualized to capture the attention of the new clientele
(Brannen, 1992, p. 221). Main Street, USA is renamed to the World Bazaar at Tokyo Disneyland and
keeps the quasi Victorian architecture of the buildings , but hints of Art Deco façade are added to the
buildings in Tokyo (Brannen, 1992, p.222; Marling, 1997). The renaming of the land does not change
the theming of the land being inherently American. The idea of Main Street is a concept used by
American towns to describe their main thoroughfare. There are no main streets in Japan so the
theming of the land is

Self Conflicts In Animal Farm, By George Orwell
It s a sunny day on a Thursday afternoon and I was at the park. I look over and see my friend getting
bullied by a group a kids. I couldn t just watch it happen so I walked over to him and told the bullies
to leave. The bullies walked away and I told my friend that he needs to go and stand up for himself.
He went over there to say something, but it just made everything worse. In the story Animal Farm by
George Orwell the animals are mistreated and rebel later. Napoleon the main character takes the spot
as the leader. He has many self conflicts and conflicts with another. Nevertheless the theme it is
difficult to say who does you the most harm enemies with the worst intentions or friends with the best
is the better theme. This theme fits better because yes the owner did mistreat him and cause him pain.
But once he became the leader everyone got mad and left him. His friends who were trying to help
just made him more mad and his friends causing them to separate from each other. Napoleon lost the
people that were trying to help him beat the people who were hurting him. The theme it is difficult to
say who does you the most harm enemies with the worst intentions or friends with the best fits better.
The story Animal Farm by George Orwell states, Comrades, he said, I trust that every animal here
appreciates the sacrifice that Comrade Napoleon has made in taking this extra labour upon himself .
This quote shows how Napoleon did some extra work and wanted everyone to thank

How Did Dorothy Hodgkin Contribute To Science
What is the legacy of Dorothy Hodgkin, both on the study of structure on an atomic scale and for
women in science?
By Ruqayyah Haq
I [Dorothy Hodgkin] was captured for life by chemistry and by crystals . Hodgkin was first exposed to
these two captivating topics at age 10, she was encouraged by a friend of her parents (Dr A.F. Joseph)
who gave her chemicals to analyse when she and her parents went to visit him. Her interest grew and
she went against the social gender norm, later attending chemistry classes with the boys at school.
Eventually this led to her choosing to study chemistry at the University of Oxford and after she went
on to complete a PhD at the University of Cambridge. Hodgkin evidently academically excelled in
science it was when she attended a special course in crystallography (a combination of maths, physics
and chemistry) where she was inspired to continue research in Xray Crystallography, the physical
science of x ray. In order to do this she moved to Oxford as a research fellow where she began her
independent research career in 1934.
Due to her motivation to understand Crystallography, Dr. Hodgkin was able to make important
discoveries in different areas of science. These discoveries have each made a positive change for
society:

Aim: My aim is to find out if heating the hydrochloric acid affects the rate of magnesium and
hydrochloric acid.
Prediction: I predict that the heating the hydrochloric acid will effect it as heating is one type of
changing the rate of reaction.
Method:

Start timing as soon as it starts to react with the hydrochloric acid. When it has finished reacting,
measure how much gas was produced and clear the syringe and then clear the stop watch and repeat
this twice with every different temperature. Scientific theory:
In a chemical reaction no mass is lost, when the reactants turn in to the product of the reaction,
chemical reactions involve a permanent change not just a temporary one.
For this to happen their hast to be a change in energy as reactions always give out or take in energy
most of the time this is heat energy this means the temperature in a reaction will go up or down.
Visible changes can occur in the reaction mixture. These show that a reaction has taken place, for
example a gad is given off or a solid is made or the colour changes.
Oxidation this happens with most substances usually forming an oxide
e.g. magnesium if not kept in a solution then it will react with oxygen forming magnesium oxide.
Exothermic (give out heat) the reaction supplies the energy as heat.
The heat energy is given to the surroundings; the temperature might go up making it feel hot.
Temperature by changing the temperature in a experiment you are effecting the rate of reaction by
heating it you are making the experiment go faster because you are making the particles react faster
giving a higher chance of a collision happing and if you drop you are causing the

Gender Roles In Disney Movies
Disney is known for fairy tale films that are full of lovable characters that children cannot seem to get
enough of. The traits of many of the characters are great models for children to watch and learn from.
Adults tend to see a bit more than just the good qualities they embody, which leads to the realization
that these films are far from perfect. Upon closer inspection, Disney films embrace patriarchal and
sexist ideologies when it comes to their characters something that Disney has been nearly successful
in eradicating in their most recent films. From the earliest films to the most recent, the portrayal of
gender roles, of both the hero/heroine and the villain, has changed for the better. The earliest

In response to criticism and to avoid being called sexist, Disney started using more male villains.
According to Amy Davis, there exists several different types of male villain: pirate kings, enemies of
the earth, magically dangerous, criminally dangerous, comic, and idiotic. Ratcliffe, from Pocahontas,
is an enemy of the earth villain and concerned only with what wealth he can gain from the land. The
Shadow Man, from The Princess and the Frog, is a magically dangerous villain and a practitioner of
voodoo. He exerts his magical power to manipulate other people to do what he wishes, and his
primary goal consists of becoming ridiculously wealthy. Shan yu, from Mulan, is a criminally
dangerous and arrogant villain with a grandiose sense of self who is intent on conquering the whole of
China. Hans, from Frozen, is probably a criminally dangerous villain, although he lacks mention in
Davis s book. Being the youngest in his family, he feels as though he does not get anything he believes
he deserves, so he manipulates Anna to gain access to her kingdom and wealth. Gaston, from Beauty
and the Beast, is a comic villain composed of more brawn than brain. He only cares about acquiring
wealth, a category that also includes Belle. These male villains all have similar characteristics greed,
arrogance, overconfidence, and violent tendencies (Amy Davis Ch.

Essay On Noise Pollution
Abstract
Noise is responsible for hidden and or obvious damages. Hearing loss and tinnitus greatly depend on
the level of sound (dB) and duration of sound . Short duration sound of decent intensity primarily a
gunshot or explosion will not be described because they are not currently encountered in our normal
urban environment. Introduction Noise pollution is a type of pollution that doesn t get a lot of
attention because many people don t see it as a problem. Although it may not seem a major problem to
many, to other people it is a major problem because of the health problems and defects and disorders
caused by the little amount of sleep these people may be getting. The exact definition of noise is,
Noise pollution is an unwanted or disturbing sound which can interfere with normal activities for
humans and wildlife, such as sleeping, conversation, reproduction, communication, or disrupt or
diminish one s quality of life. Some of these side effects of noise pollution can compare to other

times depending on exactly how much sound or noise is being endured. Many causes of noise

The Truth About Stories By Thomas King
In the book, the Truth About Stories, Thomas King sheds light on the power of stories. King explicitly
enforces that one must take caution in the way he or she tells a story, since it will shape one s
thoughts, decision making and future (2). Through the use of literature, King weaves his way through
native history, anecdote by anecdote, informing his readers about the importance of storytelling.
Stories are wondrous things, the author writes. And they are dangerous. (9). To prove this, King
mentions two creation stories; the differences in these stories is the way in which they are told. The
first is a famous native story called, the woman who fell from the sky ; this story is told in a complex,
persuasive way (10 20). This story discusses a society emphasizing the value of cooperation as the
animals work together to create a better world (21 22). The second story, a Judeo Christian biblical
story, describes a Western Capitalist society. It is told in a historical, punitive and direct fashion,
underlining a society of boundaries and punishment. King highlights that storytelling is not just simply
telling a story, rather it is how the stories are told. King uses these particular stories to show how
different stories shape people s perspectives, which impacts their ideas, thoughts and decision making.
Therefore he addresses how sensitive storytelling may be, for once a story is told, it can never be
taken back (10). This is true in all realms of life, cautioning

Cordoba Research Paper
The Great Mosque of Cordoda In Spain, Cordoba was the original center of Muslim culture once the
Umayyads of Spain assumed their title as caliphs and Cordoba became their capital. The Great
Mosque of Cordoba is a hypostyle mosque that may be considered as the purest of all Arabic
architecture and even though the construction of this Mosque is based on a converted Visigoth church
(Burckhardt and Michaud. 132). As other early mosque, the architects reused elements, such as
columns of pre Islamic building to construct the Mosque of Cordoba. However, its renovations
transformed it into one of the important monuments of medieval architecture (. (Ettinghausen, Grabar,

building, creating two tiers of arches, with the used of alteration of stone and red brick voussoirs; this
used for two types of materials was for decorative and functional purposes since the architectures
combined the flexibility of brick with the strength of stone, at the same time creating a great
decorative effect for the eyes. (M. Sayre. 447). Later on, in 833 52, the mosque was expanded by
widening the hall by two naves and lengthening it by eight bays. In 961 76, a second expansion of the
mosque was made through the lengthening of the mosque and adding twelve more bays. Furthermore,
the architects started to build the main dome or the present Villaviciosa Chapel in the central nave of
the first building, and ending with three more domes located in front of a decorated mihrab, a niche
commemorating the spot at Medina, indicating in which direction people should pray (Sayre. 445).

The Norm And Single Sex Sports
Recreating the Norm in Single sex Sports
When investigating the costs and benefits of an individual competing in a sport considered non
traditional for their gender, we must first answer the question of what makes the single sex status of
these sports so important. We know that much controversy often surrounds the assimilation of a
certain gender into a sport not traditionally considered their own, but we might forget to ask why this
is the case to begin with.
First, it is important to acknowledge that the answer to this question will most likely vary a bit
between genders. For men, I believe much of the drive to keep certain sports single sex, stems from a
dominance/power struggle. Most of the male sports mentioned focus mainly on pure strength, and in
the case of boxing, agility. The idea that a woman can excel, or even surpass her male counterpart, in a
sport relying so heavily on muscular prowess, seems to me like an issue that could be fundamentally
threatening. When I mention power struggle, it s mostly in reference to a struggle for dominance, but I
believe that many of the men who look down upon women who enter sports primarily relying on
physical strength, may feel threatened in both respects. On the opposite end of the spectrum, much of
what might drive them away from traditionally female sports, is the fact these sports are often
considered too feminine to justify male participation. It s almost as though the masculine element of a

History in the Staples Approach Essay
One of Canada s contributions to the history of ideas has been a kind of historical economics. Now a
neglected artifact within the history of economic thought, as economics has moved on to non
historical, modeling approaches to understanding, the staples approach can serve to show how
economics can be enriched by a historical dimension.
What is the staples approach and what makes it especially suitable to an investigation of how history
informs economic understanding? The staple theory has been Canada s original contribution to the
world of economic ideas (along with the notion of effective protection devised by Clarence Barber of
the University of
Manitoba3). The observations of Harold Innis, and others, in the 1930s led to an ... Show more content

It should be emphasised that Harold Innis was an economist and the staples approach he put forward
was market driven, in the sense that prices for the staple and for the inputs into its production were the
dynamic motive force in triggering, and sustaining,

6 the staple development. However, he was clear that Canada s development took place with massive
government intervention the railways, the National Policy, the geological survey and accepted that
without it Canada might never have come into existence as a leading world power. Since The Wealth
of Nations in 1776 economists had moved away from a study of what induces economic development
to a study of the allocation of resources . One of the virtues of the staples thesis was its rounded
approach to both development and efficient allocation. In the language of Thomas Kuhn (1962) this
was a paradigm, reflecting a world view.
In Innis s staples approach considerable attention is directed towards the physical characteristics of the
particular staple product under consideration. One of his most important works, The Fur Trade in
Canada, has as its first chapter a short description of the beaver and its typical locale, commencing
with this passage:

A Midsummer Night s Dream Comparison Essay
The True Power of Adaptations Some of the world s greatest storylines comes from book adaptations.
For example, West Side Story, an American Classic film, considered it is one of the greatest films in
history, it was an adaptation to Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet. Lord of the Rings, The Hunger
Games, Harry Potter: etc. They all came from books or other forms of written stories. Good
adaptations successfully accomplish the storyline from the written book and make it even better. I
myself have watched two adaptations to A Midsummer Night s Dream: A 1999 movie directed by
Michael Hoffman, and a play performed by Rice University. The movie was not perfect. There were
many flaws. In the very beginning, the acting was not good at all. Theseus s role in the beginning
scene was sub par, sounding as if he were reading from a teleprompter. Plot inconsistencies also ...

The theme of A Midsummer Night s Dream is that if true happiness, love, and joy is wanted in a
relationship, it will take some hard work. True love or friendship does not depend upon if a person is
is annoying or not. True love or friendship goes beyond flaws. Having a good healthy relationship in
which you selflessly and unconditionally love someone is a risk. It is like spending money on stocks.
Someday that stock might crash. Likewise your friend might get extremely sick, die, or even betray
you. Or your friend might be in danger, and you would have to step up and take the risk. Truly caring
for your friend comes at a price. In the story, both in the play and in the movie, Egeus and Theseus
were discussing on Hermia and how she needs to marry Demetrius. Since Hermia does not love
Demetrius, she wants to marry Lysander. When Egeus and Theseus offer Hermia to either die, become
a nun all her life, or marry Demetrius, Hermia is not afraid. Her love for Lysander is that great, that
she is willing even to die for

The Impact Of Military Engagements On The Peace, Economy...
The purpose of this paper is to persuade and demonstrate that ongoing Military engagements are direct
contributors to the peace, economy and political stability throughout Southeast Asia.
The History and Economic Relationships After the Spanish American war a series of opportunities
brought a lot of regional players and foreign powers to the Philippines, the United States took the
position that Spain once had. The Unites States saw the Philippines islands as a strategic place that
would open commerce and trade to the far east Asia from the beginning and their stance did not
change after their surrender. After World War II (WWII) most countries in Southeast Asia became
independent. Most countries in the region share a business and trade relationship which is in favor of
their individual and collective growth, while some others share problems with migration, limited
resources and political vitality. For some time, the United States have been a key influencer of
stability providing military presence and advising countries throughout southeast Asia to maintain
territorial and economic integrity. After the independence of a few countries in Indochina, countries
with India and China influences located in the same continental area, the Vietnam War began with the
communist North Vietnam attempt to conquer the south. By the end of the war in 1975 neighbor
countries of Laos and Cambodia were also governed by communists. During this era the Southeast

Sparta of ancient Greece. The expectations and some more were met with an outstanding amount of

kingship after discovering that his brother s wife was pregnant (Plutarch, 2005, p. 4). Plutarch goes on
to describe the travels of Lycurgus after leaving Sparta and then focuses on the reforms or innovations
that he put in place in Sparta after his return. The first of the innovations by Lycurgus was the creation
of the Elders. Plutarch explains that Lycurgus s Elders were a stability group to keep balance between
the king and people (Plutarch, 2005, p. 8). The second of Lycurgus s innovations was the

The Lemon Orchard Sympathy
In The Lemon Orchard the writer creates tension and sympathy by contrasting the two characters of
the slave and the gang members creating an unequal relationship. The gang members constantly
threaten the man whilst asking him questions to intimidate him such as, do you hear, hotnot? Answer
me or I will shoot a hole through your spine. The tone in which he asks him shows how the gang are
in full control of the situation. The noun answer reinforces how demanding and powerful the gang is
and by forcing the answer they are intimidating the man and gaining a sense of power. Despite this we
feel a lot of sympathy for the man because in the relationship the innocent man is belittled and bullied
by the gang members. The idea of the man being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They demanded the man followed their orders and if not they will have to take action. The imperative
demanded displays the hostility of the gang members and it also connotes aggression and violence. It
also implies the dominance they have over the man who we might feel sympathy for because he is
outnumbered, undeserving of the abuse and he also is innocent. The hostile language used is
reinforced when they refer to the coloured man as hotnot . This clearly portrays how cruel they are to
the man being victimised and this also shows how they have taken away the man s identity and given
him a racist, degrading name in place of that. The reader can really feel sympathy for the man because
he has been unfairly abused because of how dignified he is throughout all of it, for example; he was
cold and tried to prevent himself from shivering in case it should be mistaken for cowardice. The verb
tried reinforces his dignity but also his fear of death and for that we feel sympathy for him. The fact
they use these names really shows how weak and undignified they really are which completely
contrasts all of the characteristics of the coloured

Camaro, a car that is easily recognizable on the streets today is probably one of the most iconic and
controversial cars that hit the streets in 1967. For over 45 years the Camaro has exceeded expectations
and often surpassed the likes of its adversaries, the challenger and the iconic mustang. Critiques often
thought that the Camaro would fall short especially to the mustang due to the fact that it has a 3 year
jump on the Camaro, but sales records and Trams Am racing titles might mean that the Camaro is
doing just fine. Even though the Camaro is still going strong for over 45 years it hasn t been easy.

the SS, which included an upgraded drivetrain, power front disc brakes, special Z/28 striping, a cowl

Essay on My Views on God and the Nature of the Universe
A worldview is an opinion on how you see society as a whole. Each person s worldview is impacted
by their culture, religion, family friends, etc. I am a Pentecostal Christian and a Romanian and these
two aspects impact my worldview immeasurably. Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior and He died on
the cross for each person on this Earth. Even though each person has sinned and turned their backs on
God countless times, Christ was always there for us no matter what we did. His love is greater than
any love we have ever encountered and His grace is immensely great. How do we know who God is
and the nature of the universe, what is our purpose and what happens when we die, and how do we

If one believe s there is a God who has created them for a reason then life has purpose. He gave us a
purpose to live and that is to follow Him and give glory to Him in everything we do (Kelsey, 2012).
When we die, we are judged by God and we either go to heaven or hell. What determines this is if we
believe Jesus Christ died for our sins, rose again, and through Christ we are able to have a relationship
with God (Kelsey, 2012). People ask why I believe in Christ and how I know that everything in the
Bible is true and they are astounded when they hear my answer. First, believing that there is a God,
believing that there is no God, and believing that there are many gods all have one thing in common:
faith. Without faith, how can we believe or not believe in something? If a person says, I have no faith
in you, what exactly does that mean? It means that, that person does not believe in someone and that
they have no trust in them. It is the same in any religion. One has to have faith to believe in
something. A friend told me that she saw someone who I looked like. Even though I didn t see what
she saw I still put my faith in her and believed her. The Bible says everything in it is true (2 Timothy
3:16 17 NIV). The Bible is historically correct and no one has proven that wrong (Hovind, 2014).

Cultural Change Of The Vietnam War
As America was fighting a war for freedom in another country, unruly teens were fighting their own at
home. Cultural change, the explosion of free love, youthful rebellion, and a new liberal mindset all
seemed to have one underlying device in common; drug use. The late 1960 s into the early and mid 70
s found the perfect environment for recreational drug use. Music and arts celebrated this lifestyle, as
well as free thinkers and their idiotic philosophies about spiritual elation through mind altering
narcotics. Lack of family structure with so many homes transformed by the Vietnam War also left
young teens without guidance, and an economy with little to offer to the up and coming generation. As
the next few years passed and the free love generation began to grasp the concept of working for a
living, showering on a regular basis, love with commitment (or antibiotics), and cultural change
through policy, they brought to the workforce a new dynamic not previously prevalent. Recreational
drug use had become part of society. Vietnam War veterans also brought their own demons home with
their return, opiate addictions were a common occurrence (Carson 2012).
This new dynamic was seen initially in 1971 by the National Household Survey on Drug Abuse
(NHSDA) spearheaded by the Office of National Drug Control Policy. The survey indicated that many
illegal drug users were employed full or part time. The initial survey was used to try and understand
the scope of the problem,

The Wounded Warrior Project ( Wwp )
In 2003, John Melia started The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) as a basement operation that
donated backpacks full of goods to wounded warriors. Not long after their inception, Melia hired a
few employees including future CEO of WWP Steven Nardizzi. Together they began raising millions
of dollars and broadening their services for veterans. By 2009 the company had grown to over 50
employees and $ 21 million in revenue. This was when Nardizzi wanted to get more aggressive with
marketing and expansion; which is where Melia and Nardizzi differed. Melia felt he lost control of his
organization and in turn resigned.
Since Nardizzi took over as CEO, WWP has become one of the largest veteran charities to date, taking
in nearly $372 million in donations in 2015. This rapid rise in capital derived from new management,
aggressive fundraising styles, and strategic marketing tactics. Many former and current employees,
veterans, and donors began to wonder whether the mission of WWP had transitioned from helping
veterans to profiting millions and building a brand. Either way the organization was more successful
than it had ever been; now they had all the capital they needed to make even more of difference within
the wounded warrior committee.
In June of 2015 a group of former and current employees led by Erick Millette (a prior speaker for
WWP whose opinion was heavily relied on when allegations were expressed) approached CBS News

  • 2. Media Violence Statistics Mehtaab Bains Period 2 Honors Eng 10 18 March 2016 Title In the United States, there has been an increasing amount of mass shootings and similar violent crimes every year. Within the last decade, the rate of violent crimes has spiralled too far out of control for the people to understand why. This sudden increase in violent crimes has left everyone stumbling for a cause or a reason for the spike in the trend. As of late, many have turned the blame to guns, to education, and lastly to violent media. Since the early 2000 s violent media has become far more popular than before. In fact, many say that now is the epoch of violent video games, and that the violent movie industry is just growing. Because of the correlation between the increased popularity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many studies conducted across the board have proven that increased exposure is directly related to an elevated level of aggression. For example, as reported by Dave Larsen of Dayton Daily News, in the article Study: Violent Video Games Increase Aggression , a study conducted by the Ohio State University found that people who played violent video games for very brief increments of time over the period of three days would be far more aggressive when interacting with others. Along with this, violent video game players were always expecting more aggression from others than did the players of nonviolent video games. Larsen also reported that the behavior of the nonviolent video games remained stable and unchanged for the duration of the entire experiment, while violent video game players were found to be constantly reaching higher levels of aggravation(Larsen ... • 4. Understanding The Core Variables That Affect Our Lives Essay Aging, although a quite evasive and rather frightening thought, is an inevitable process that occurs to every form of life, regardless of genetic makeup or origin, and it is a fundamental mechanism in which our universe/cosmos is able to fuel itself with and ultimately flourish on. It is simply invariable, in order for there to be creation and rebirth, there needs to be the set process that eventually leads to death and reconversion in a perpetual system/method of sustenance. Understanding the core variables that affect these processes are essential because they allow us to gain a deeper insight into what it means to age, both physically and mentally, but more importantly, how to live our current lives to ensure a happy, gratifying, and fuller existence. For my Aging Process assignment, I have chosen to interview my grandfather Joe Pacheco. He is a currently retired man who is approximately 84 years of age, and presently resides in sunny Thousand Oaks, California. Never being too prominent in my life at a young age, apart from occasional family gatherings and outings, there wasn t too much that I really knew about him before this, so choosing him for my interview assignment was in a way metaphorically killing two birds with one stone. The things that I DID know were that he was a veteran who went on to work in the fire department for a large portion of his career and was now retired in California after his divorce, in which he was apparently ecstatic about. Having spoken to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Bone Or Chappie In Russell Banks s Rule Of The Bone Bone or Chappie is the main character in the novel Rule of the Bone Written by Russell Banks. Bone is a fourteen year old teenager, who fails out of school; his life was a total mess for many reasons. Although he was so young, still he was already hooked on drugs consequently crimes, one of the major issues that have enormous impact on his life is that his stepfather was abusing him secretly without his mother knowing anything about it, Bone didn t tell his mother anything not even an inkling even though they live in the same house. He is the product of a broken family, sexual abuse, drugs, and parental apathy. Until now, it sounds undoubted dark picture, but the bright side of the picture is what I like about Bone, that he never gave up his life and constantly in search of himself or I self like how I man like to phrase it so to speak. Creative chaos could lead a terrible situation into a success; suffering is not always a dreadful path because it could turn into strength. What does not kill you only going ... • 6. Summary Of Aldo Leopold s Land Ethic Just because we can t share sell shares in nature doesn t mean it has no value (Thomas Friedman). Planet Earth, as we all know, is an astonishingly complex and delicate network of dependent systems that have developed gradually over the past 4.6 billion years or so. Slowly, structured elements we refer to as nature evolved into significant components of the earth. Ironically, humans with their notably shorter period on earth have come to dominate and manipulate the landscape to the point of environmental degradation. Aldo Leopold s Land Ethic addresses this issue by challenging the way humans look at nature and its resources. He insists on the practice of moral responsibility to land by enlarging the boundaries of our community alongside elements like animals, plants, and ecosystems (Leopold, Land Ethic ) Leopold appeals to emotion by showcasing the real value that lies within nature and its beauty rather than the economic value that creates only selfishness in individuals. Virginia Woolf is also able to emotionally engage readers in her essay Death of a Moth by depicting the real struggle between life and death with a Moth s struggle for survival that ultimately ends with death. With her implementation of rhetorical devices, she s able to provoke a sense of pity and emotional connection towards the animal. By looking at Woolf s essay through Leopold s Land of Ethic, the ability to see nature as an equal member of our community rather than that of inferiority ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Dirt Bike Usa Dirt Bikes USA Background: Dirt Bikes USA was founded in 1991 by Carl Schmidt and Steven McFadden. These two entrepreneurs saw the increasing demand for Dirt bikes, and took the initiative to capitalize on their idea. These two former bikers took their knowledge of dirt bikes and their love of the sport and developed on that foundation. Their idea was to give the customer a product that was aptly suited for the specific needs of the customer. Also the duo wanted to give something more than just a bike, they wanted to provide the highest possible satisfaction at a reduced cost than their competitors. To reach this goal they developed frames for dirt bikes that were more suited to off road handling and started using these frames to build ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A better way to read the model is to say that the organization structure is sort of flat, hence it is still a growing company, but 5 different groups report to one department and then that department as well as two others report to the CEO and COO as aptly outlined by the model. With little expertise in the E commerce business, it gives Dirt Bikes competitors a slight advantage in marketing its products on the web. The Problem: Dirt Bikes USA do not have an adequate internet based platform as to which it can sell its products. This means that its competitors have the advantage to sell in prime estate areas that would normally be essential to Dirt Bikes success. To overcome this problem the implementation of a web site and more software are a necessity. To implement systems such as SAP or an Oracle system, Dirt bikes will need to invest some serious money into the transition. However some downfalls that arise when technology is introduced into a company include, teaching the staff to use the technology effectively and intelligently, lost money at the point of implementation, and the possibility for the system to crash if not set up properly. Dirt Bikes will also need a user friendly, visually stimulating, easy to navigate web site. This means that more money will need to be spent in order to get the ball rolling on this new transition. Because Dirt Bikes do not sell directly to retail customers, it relies on a network of 40 distributors concentrated in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Italian Culture and Change The World. A spherical globe filled with a multitude of different cultures, nations, and ethnicities. Yet we are all part of the same planet, the same singular race of humanity. When assigned with this assignment to choose one country out of this vast array, we went with one that one of our group members was most familiar with. We chose the beautiful European country and cultural center of Italy. It was one that one of our group members had personally visited within the last year and her experience gave us some amazing insight into what the actual culture of Italy consisted of. It was much more enlightening than reading any book, although those sources were just as helpful in the researched conducted. With this decision we reached the verdict that we would be doing the Contemporary World Issues Project. Then after careful consideration we decided to focus the research and project on the overall change in Italy s population, examining factors like migration, ethnic marriages, foreign residents, and changing cultural values. We also wanted to cover the overall change in Italian culture with the decline in traditional craft making processes and the overall industrialization in the Italian manufacturing and agricultural sectors. The project was started by dividing up the actual needed information into sections for each of the participants to research on their own. We decided to gather up basic information about different sectors of the Italian world/culture. We divided up into ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The current outcome of the Sixties Scoop is still unresolved; it was only in 2010 that a class action suit was brought to the courts in Ontario and 2011 from survivors in British Columbia. Restitution for this is far from over. According to John Beaucage the former Grand Chief of the Union of Ontario Indians, we have now entered a new stage in the assimilation of aboriginals called the Millennium Scoop . In his report commissioned by the Ministry Children and Youth Services he states Although Aboriginal people make up about 2 per cent of the province s population (2006 Census); we make up a far greater percentage of the children in care (estimates are from 10 to 20 per cent) (Beaucage, 2011). While this is information is based on one report it does produce viable solutions and a basis for additional research. 1960 1962: Political Growth In 1960 Canadians also saw the ability for Aboriginals to vote without losing status rights. • 10. The Failure Of Northern Rock In The Light Of Banking... The Failure of Northern Rock in the Light of Banking Economics and Regulation Introduction Increasing global connectivity and integration in today s world ensures that almost any serious problem has worldwide ramifications. The global financial system can serve as a key example of this phenomenon. Very recently, Britain s fifth largest mortgage lender Northern Rock was rescued by emergency funding from the Bank of England. This made the Newcastle based firm the highest profile UK victim of the global credit crunch that had been triggered by the sub prime mortgage crisis in the US. The bank run on Northern Rock that followed was unprecedented in recent UK monetary history. The Overend Guerney crash of 1866 was the last recorded bank run ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The crisis broke in August when French bank BNP Paribas suspended three of its investment funds with exposures to the troubled US sub prime market. Since it was believed that many banks had invested in similar securities, many banks felt that they did not know enough about the solvency of the banks to which they may lend to and how much losses they had suffered as a result of their exposures in the impaired US mortgage market. Subsequently, the lending on the inter bank market came to a halt. Northern Rock s Business Model Although all banks were facing greater than normal difficulties in acquiring funds given the lack of credit that was available on the global institutional debt markets, Northern Rock was hit harder than most. Its core business was, and still is, residential mortgage lending. Northern Rock was the biggest provider of mortgages in the UK in the first half of 2007. It sold up to 19% of all new mortgage policies during that time. However, it had a comparatively smaller deposit base meaning that most of its funding came from sources besides deposits from ordinary retail customers. Famously, seventy five percent of its funding came from the wholesale money markets and just twenty five percent from retail funding. Additionally, like many other banks, Northern Rock extensively engaged in packaging many of its mortgage assets into special purpose companies and raised funds in the wholesale market by ... • 11. The Themed Land Concept Of Parks The Themed Lands Concept All Disney theme parks are designed based on themed lands. In each land, the theme is reflected in the surrounding infrastructure, the appearance of employees, the character of food and other franchises, and the entertainment (Curwen, 1995, p.15). The original Disneyland in California was designed with a land that acts as a throughway to guide guests to the castle, Main Street, USA. From the castle, the other themed lands jut out like spokes of a wheel with the castle being the main focal point of the theme park. Main Street, USA represents a time of a wholesome America to many guests and while walking down Main Street, USA, they feel a sense nostalgia. For this reason, the moment guests step into a Disney theme park, America thus becomes the dominant narrative of the park, with the majority of its lands devoted to telling the stories of American history (Philips, 2002, p.34). Although this land does not host any attractions, it does have shops and eateries for guests to stop by on their way to and from the castle and the rest of the theme park. Although Tokyo Disneyland claims to be a replica of Disneyland in California, there are a lot of differences between the two theme parks. When building the theme park, the Oriental Land Company modified a few themed lands and attractions so that themes nostalgic for Americans but meaningless for the Japanese have been renamed and recontextualized to capture the attention of the new clientele (Brannen, 1992, p. 221). Main Street, USA is renamed to the World Bazaar at Tokyo Disneyland and keeps the quasi Victorian architecture of the buildings , but hints of Art Deco façade are added to the buildings in Tokyo (Brannen, 1992, p.222; Marling, 1997). I couldn t just watch it happen so I walked over to him and told the bullies to leave. The bullies walked away and I told my friend that he needs to go and stand up for himself. He went over there to say something, but it just made everything worse. In the story Animal Farm by George Orwell the animals are mistreated and rebel later. Napoleon the main character takes the spot as the leader. He has many self conflicts and conflicts with another. By Ruqayyah Haq I [Dorothy Hodgkin] was captured for life by chemistry and by crystals . Hodgkin was first exposed to these two captivating topics at age 10, she was encouraged by a friend of her parents (Dr A.F. Joseph) who gave her chemicals to analyse when she and her parents went to visit him. Her interest grew and she went against the social gender norm, later attending chemistry classes with the boys at school. Eventually this led to her choosing to study chemistry at the University of Oxford and after she went on to complete a PhD at the University of Cambridge. Hodgkin evidently academically excelled in science it was when she attended a special course in crystallography (a combination of maths, physics and chemistry) where she was inspired to continue research in Xray Crystallography, the physical science of x ray. In order to do this she moved to Oxford as a research fellow where she began her independent research career in 1934. • 21. The Truth About Stories By Thomas King In the book, the Truth About Stories, Thomas King sheds light on the power of stories. King explicitly enforces that one must take caution in the way he or she tells a story, since it will shape one s thoughts, decision making and future (2). Through the use of literature, King weaves his way through native history, anecdote by anecdote, informing his readers about the importance of storytelling. Stories are wondrous things, the author writes. And they are dangerous. (9). To prove this, King mentions two creation stories; the differences in these stories is the way in which they are told. The first is a famous native story called, the woman who fell from the sky ; this story is told in a complex, persuasive way (10 20). This story discusses a society emphasizing the value of cooperation as the animals work together to create a better world (21 22). The second story, a Judeo Christian biblical story, describes a Western Capitalist society. It is told in a historical, punitive and direct fashion, underlining a society of boundaries and punishment. King highlights that storytelling is not just simply telling a story, rather it is how the stories are told. King uses these particular stories to show how different stories shape people s perspectives, which impacts their ideas, thoughts and decision making. Therefore he addresses how sensitive storytelling may be, for once a story is told, it can never be taken back (10). This is true in all realms of life, cautioning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Norm And Single Sex Sports Recreating the Norm in Single sex Sports When investigating the costs and benefits of an individual competing in a sport considered non traditional for their gender, we must first answer the question of what makes the single sex status of these sports so important. We know that much controversy often surrounds the assimilation of a certain gender into a sport not traditionally considered their own, but we might forget to ask why this is the case to begin with. First, it is important to acknowledge that the answer to this question will most likely vary a bit between genders. For men, I believe much of the drive to keep certain sports single sex, stems from a dominance/power struggle. Most of the male sports mentioned focus mainly on pure strength, and in the case of boxing, agility. The idea that a woman can excel, or even surpass her male counterpart, in a sport relying so heavily on muscular prowess, seems to me like an issue that could be fundamentally threatening. When I mention power struggle, it s mostly in reference to a struggle for dominance, but I believe that many of the men who look down upon women who enter sports primarily relying on physical strength, may feel threatened in both respects. On the opposite end of the spectrum, much of what might drive them away from traditionally female sports, is the fact these sports are often considered too feminine to justify male participation. Critiques often thought that the Camaro would fall short especially to the mustang due to the fact that it has a 3 year jump on the Camaro, but sales records and Trams Am racing titles might mean that the Camaro is doing just fine. Even though the Camaro is still going strong for over 45 years it hasn t been easy. Workers strikes, recalls, even ending the production of the Camaro were just a few of the Camaro s ... It also included an upgraded drivetrain and chassis air extractors that were built into the hood along with a special striping design and SS badging around the car. There also another option that combines these two packages together called RS/SS package. Z/28 package was originally introduced primarily for the SCAA Trans Am Racing Series it wasn t intended to be a car sold to the public. But due to the popularity and the amount of consumers who wanted to get there hands on GM finally gave way. The Z/28 consisted even higher performance upgrades than the SS, which included an upgraded drivetrain, power front disc brakes, special Z/28 striping, a cowl induction hood that was designed to feed cool air into the intake, and a Muncie M21 close ratio 4 speed manual transmission. The Z/28 package also didn t come with air conditioning and had only one engine option that was a 302 cubic inch V8 that was rated 290 horsepower from the factory although it was extremely inaccurate due to the fact of street regulations it was believed to have over 300 horsepower. GM rather than spend money building a new engine from scratch decided to use components from previous Chevrolet engines to build the 302. The two main ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Essay on My Views on God and the Nature of the Universe A worldview is an opinion on how you see society as a whole. Each person s worldview is impacted by their culture, religion, family friends, etc. I am a Pentecostal Christian and a Romanian and these two aspects impact my worldview immeasurably. Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior and He died on the cross for each person on this Earth. Even though each person has sinned and turned their backs on God countless times, Christ was always there for us no matter what we did. His love is greater than any love we have ever encountered and His grace is immensely great. How do we know who God is and the nature of the universe, what is our purpose and what happens when we die, and how do we know right from wrong are some of the main question people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If one believe s there is a God who has created them for a reason then life has purpose. He gave us a purpose to live and that is to follow Him and give glory to Him in everything we do (Kelsey, 2012). When we die, we are judged by God and we either go to heaven or hell. What determines this is if we believe Jesus Christ died for our sins, rose again, and through Christ we are able to have a relationship with God (Kelsey, 2012). People ask why I believe in Christ and how I know that everything in the Bible is true and they are astounded when they hear my answer. First, believing that there is a God, believing that there is no God, and believing that there are many gods all have one thing in common: faith. Without faith, how can we believe or not believe in something? If a person says, I have no faith in you, what exactly does that mean? It means that, that person does not believe in someone and that they have no trust in them. It is the same in any religion. One has to have faith to believe in something. A friend told me that she saw someone who I looked like. Even though I didn t see what she saw I still put my faith in her and believed her. The Bible says everything in it is true (2 Timothy 3:16 17 NIV). The Bible is historically correct and no one has proven that wrong (Hovind, 2014). Hovind states how each scroll people used for the Bible was not from memory and how carefully the scribes had to write ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Cultural Change Of The Vietnam War As America was fighting a war for freedom in another country, unruly teens were fighting their own at home. Cultural change, the explosion of free love, youthful rebellion, and a new liberal mindset all seemed to have one underlying device in common; drug use. The late 1960 s into the early and mid 70 s found the perfect environment for recreational drug use. Music and arts celebrated this lifestyle, as well as free thinkers and their idiotic philosophies about spiritual elation through mind altering narcotics. Lack of family structure with so many homes transformed by the Vietnam War also left young teens without guidance, and an economy with little to offer to the up and coming generation. As the next few years passed and the free love generation began to grasp the concept of working for a living, showering on a regular basis, love with commitment (or antibiotics), and cultural change through policy, they brought to the workforce a new dynamic not previously prevalent. Recreational drug use had become part of society. Vietnam War veterans also brought their own demons home with their return, opiate addictions were a common occurrence (Carson 2012). This new dynamic was seen initially in 1971 by the National Household Survey on Drug Abuse (NHSDA) spearheaded by the Office of National Drug Control Policy. The survey indicated that many illegal drug users were employed full or part time. The initial survey was used to try and understand the scope of the problem, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. The Wounded Warrior Project ( Wwp ) In 2003, John Melia started The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) as a basement operation that donated backpacks full of goods to wounded warriors. Not long after their inception, Melia hired a few employees including future CEO of WWP Steven Nardizzi. Together they began raising millions of dollars and broadening their services for veterans. By 2009 the company had grown to over 50 employees and $ 21 million in revenue. This was when Nardizzi wanted to get more aggressive with marketing and expansion; which is where Melia and Nardizzi differed. Melia felt he lost control of his organization and in turn resigned. Since Nardizzi took over as CEO, WWP has become one of the largest veteran charities to date, taking in nearly $372 million in donations in 2015. This rapid rise in capital derived from new management, aggressive fundraising styles, and strategic marketing tactics. Many former and current employees, veterans, and donors began to wonder whether the mission of WWP had transitioned from helping veterans to profiting millions and building a brand. Either way the organization was more successful than it had ever been; now they had all the capital they needed to make even more of difference within the wounded warrior committee. In June of 2015 a group of former and current employees led by Erick Millette (a prior speaker for WWP whose opinion was heavily relied on when allegations were expressed) approached CBS News and the New York Times to ... Process maps also describe the flow of information through an organization, use only a few symbols, and (to many) are among the easiest to draw and understand. 5. Two additional documentation tools are program flowcharts and decision tables. Accountants do not need to be programmers to evaluate or design an accounting information system, but they should understand in general terms how these tools work. 6. A variety of software tools exist for documenting AISs. These include standard personal productivity tools such as word processing and spreadsheet software, specialized CASE tools, and software packages designed to help companies comply with SOX and AS5. * What are effective coding systems used in AIS? * Accounting information systems depend on codes to record, classify, store, and retrieve financial data. Although it is possible in a manual system to use simple alphabetic descriptions when preparing journal entries, computerized systems use numeric codes (codes that use numbers only) or alphanumeric codes (codes that use numbers and letters) to record accounting transactions systematically. For example, a manual journal entry might include a debit to the Direct Materials Inventory account. In a computerized system, the debit might be to account 12345. * Alphanumeric codes are important in computerized systems, as they help to ensure uniformity and consistency. * AISs typically use several ...
