Socrates Justice
The topic of justice is constantly debated by the philosopher Socrates. Though he had many
different discussions with many different people throughout his life, Socrates was never able to
decide what he believed justice was. In one particular discussion with two of his comrades, Glaucon
and Adeimantus , Socrates realized that studying an individual wouldn t help him learn the true
meaning of justice. If he really wanted to understand justice, it might be easier to try to observe it
in a large group rather than a single person. By observing what justice was in a community, there
was a possibility that finding a justice in a single person would become much easier. The three men
then decided to create a theoretical city and examine the different... Show more content on

Certain professions allow some people to earn more money than others in a society. Those with
more wealth are able to by more luxuries and tend to become addicted to the luxurious lifestyle
that they have earned. The rich start to become greedy, and want to be able to maintain their
own wealth without doing much work, even if it means acting unjustly. Conversely, those who
don t make as much money may struggle to keep themselves out of poverty. It is more difficult
to provide food and shelter for themselves, which may lead to things like stealing and other
unjust acts. This system of wealth and poverty create large amounts of injustice in societies
around the world, but eliminating wealth and poverty won t make things any better. In order to
completely eliminate wealth and poverty, you would need to eliminate the idea of money. If no
one can earn more or less than others, no one can be wealthy or impoverished. But without
money, injustice would be even more prominent than before. In the beginning of Republic
Glaucon argues the following: Indeed every man believes that injustice is far more profitable to
himself than justice ( Plato pg. 37). Each of us subconsciously tries to do what is best for
ourselves. We want to be able to survive in the world and before we can even think about doing
things for other people, we have to make sure that we are taken care of. If this city didn t have

Authenticity
Final Draft: Slater vs Turkle
How can Turkle s concept of authenticity help us see Slater in a new way?
Both face to face interaction and social networking sites (including Myspace, Twitter, and
Facebook) are forms of staying in contact with friends and family. While Nora from Turkle s Alone
together communicates her engagement and wedding date via email to her closest friends and
family, she could have easily announced it face to face, at a party or through a Facebook event.
While there are many ways of communicating information, the authenticity of these interactions as
well as its importance is up for debate. For Turkle, face to face interaction is to social networking as
the tortoise is to the robot: some can be moved by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The changes are for one temporary: in simply adjust[ing] the settings, turning the frequency,
current, and pulse up or down, one can go from feeling revved to having a peculiar wash of
sadness. (Slater, pages 2 3) In evening Mario out in such a way, it is clear that psychosurgery is
inducing superficial changes that lead to inauthentic interactions. Even the wife notes the
extraordinary change in Mario, remarking You re like the Energizer Bunny upon seeing him go
from a person who would back up at the sight of golden smear of shit to one who can now hear
her breathe...unafraid to hold her hand. (Slater, pages 1 3) The dramatic nature of these
temporary changes is in fact what is most troubling. In Who Holds the Clicker, Heath performs
electrode surgery on a homosexual man. By firing electrodes in his pleasure center while having
him watch movies of heterosexual encounters, he is able to turn said man (identified as B 19) into
a newly made man (Slater, pages 1)within 17 days. Although the electrode surgery on the
homosexual man was supposed to be a good deed, in actuality the homosexual man did not
conserve his individuality. As such, one can see that striving to forge face to face interaction comes
at the expense of yourself. In contrast, technology like Skype, Facebook and/or texting enables
human beings to clearly present themselves on their social networks while allowing human beings
to create or keep connections with others. Facebook profiles

Analysis Of The BookO Pioneers, By Willa Cather
A woman running a farm was a taboo topic in the late 19th century. She was met with sexism
and resentment from her peers. In O Pioneers!, the narrator, Alexandra Bergson, shares the same
perseverance and feminist perspective as the author Willa Cather does; in addition, the novel
reflects the hardships and strengths faced by American pioneers in the 1890 s. Cather was
inspired by the vast possibility of the land that she grew up in, and incorporated that important
aspect of her life into the novel. Professor Amy Ahearn elaborated that Cather put the shaggy
grass country at the center of the novel, and allowed the form of the land to provide the structure
of the book (Ahearn). Her precious childhood hometown was the basis of the setting of her
novel. Alexandra s parents similarly immigrated to Nebraska from Norway, and ran a large and
successful farm. As her father was dying, he gave her the responsibility to run the farm in his
place, as she was the one best suited for the task, surpassing her brothers. Further, journalist Amy
Ahearn describes that Alexandra had lost her gaiety and her femininity as she domesticated and
enlarged the property (Ahearn). As she ran the farm, she consequently had various aspects of her
persona changed. As a result of her hard work to change and run the farm, Alexandra herself
changes from a quiet lady to a prudent tomboy. She was faced with a responsibility she felt
obligated to carry out, because she wanted to make her father proud

This causes teachers to become overwhelmed and frustrated because they cannot share their ups
and downs with others. Observations are a way to bring a teacher down. They are conducted in a
way that degrades the teacher and does not offer any constructive criticism. This creates a climate
where teachers feel inferior and ineffective when in reality the school and its teachers are not.
Kallestad (2010) states that school climate has clear parallels to other concepts like school culture
and teachers professional communities. This climate also gives outsiders the perception that the
school is ineffective when again, that is not the case as shown through test scores. The principal
has the power to change these deficits into opportunities. She creates the schedule and could
easily set a schedule where teachers had collaboration time built into their day. The school has
people available to cover classrooms for a short twenty minute collaboration. Even allowing
teachers to collaborate two or three times a week would be helpful if that is all the schedule could
allow.
The school does have some qualities of a congenial climate. The teaching staff is very close. Many
of the teachers have been in this school for over ten years and work very hard for student
achievement. The staff will take the initiative to try to create a climate that is fun and friendly
through a sunshine committee that plans spirit week for students and

Is Children’s Development a Universal Staged Process or a...
Is Children s development a universal staged process or a social and cultural process?
There are three main approaches to child development, the scientific, the social constructionist and
the applied approach. Each of these approaches look at children s development from a different
stand point. I will go on to explore each approach in turn and how they can help us answer the
above question.
The scientific approach to child development seeks to explain the facts about child development. It
does this by devising theories which are then tested through observations and experiments. A classic
example of this is Jean Piaget (1896 1890) who was one of the most influential theorists in child
development. Piaget built up a theory about how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Different cultures, religions and social economic conditions have different expectations and
beliefs around childhood. These have also been different throughout history. For example in
Victorian Britain, children were expected to work in the home, field, streets or in factories.
However in modern Britain we expect our children to spend much of their childhood learning at
school. Another example is, Maya s (U212 Video 1, band 1) experiences of childhood in the poor
area Chittagong being different to the twins Yasir and Yamin s experiences in middle class
Chittagong. Each have different expectations of their roles within society according to their social
boundaries, gender, family and beliefs.
Central to the social constructionist approach is the concept of competing discourses of
childhood. A discourse is a particular way of thinking or a particular view point that is
influenced by our gender, language, history, beliefs, experiences and social boundaries. There are
numerous discourses but a romantic discourse sees children as inherently good; a child would
only do terrible things if damaged in some way. Contrary to this is the puritanical discourse which
sees the child as inherently evil, doing evil things because they are wicked and need punishing.
Using the social constructionist view allows us to recognise that a child who is a killer can be seen
through these two very

revamp its stores according to the types of customers they serve. A strategy previously
mentioned, customer centricity, focuses on targeting five prototypical customers, all of whom
have been given names: Jill, a busy suburban mom; Buzz, a focused, active younger male; Ray, a
family man who likes his technology practical; BB4B (short for Best Buy for Business), a small
professional employer; and Barry, an affluent professional male who s likely to drop tens of
thousands of dollars on a home theater system. Their most current focus is on a Jill based store,
the soccer mom who has money to spend but typically hasn t a clue of where or how to find
products in the store. According to the data Best Buy has collected, Jill shops a few times a year,
usually twice at an electronics store, but she usually spends a significant amount. The Santa Rosa

Increasing international growth and commitment to the environment and their employees are
major strengths for the company. Growth opportunities are present in the organic market, which
is projected to grow 9% (Scott Thomas, 2012), and the smoothie market, which will see a
potential growth of 1.6% through 2013 (Technomic, 2012). Some of the weaknesses facing the
company are its narrow target market in the organic product industry and lack of traditional
advertising. Major competition from Odwalla and Naked Juice are threats to growth and the
volatile market for fruit and other natural ingredients may cause unpredictable price increases and

Abstract
It is of utmost importance to the Harmony Creek Middle School that they conduct research into
how their students are learning in different classrooms. They believe that their teachers may need
to develop the same methodology in their classroom instruction in order to achieve the highest
math scores possible. I will investigate Harmony Creek Middle School test scores based on a
number of factors: classroom methods of teaching, gender, race, socioeconomic status and teacher
student race. I will use the ANOVA as well as the t test to investigate this. I will begin with my
introduction in which I will give more information about the teachers. Next, a review of literature
on the aspects and research that has been obtained on each method of instruction used at Harmony

Dr. Cash And The Depression
This is about Johnny R. Cash and the depression that consumed his life after the death of his
wife Mrs. June Carter Cash who passed away in May 2003. In this case study you will read
about Mr. Cash s life from childhood till present day. The study will show how I have diagnosed
Johnny Cash with Major Depressive Disorder as well as Alcohol, Stimulant and Sedative Use
Disorder from prior drug and alcohol abuse. It is important to note Johnny states he has been in
remission from drugs and alcohol for 40+ years which classifies as sustained remission. I do
discuss how he can possibly recover from this disorder. I have chosen the method of family
therapy and behavior changes. Mr. Cash will greatly benefit from a strong support system in
contrast to the confinement he has chosen. It is my belief with family present to offer love and
support it will change his thoughts and destructive behavior. My goal with this type of therapy is
to show Johnny that he is loved and wanted. Also that there is a way to be happy and have peace
again and while overcoming depression and continuing his sustained sobriety. The purpose of this
case study is to reveal that John R. Cash has depression and has suffered from this disorder for
many years. Johnny Cashhas had an interesting past and some of it hints to signs of previous
depression. This study will show that depression can hit anyone, even those that people admire and
want to be like someday.

John Locke s Essay Concerning Human Understanding
John Locke s Essay Concerning Human Understanding
In John Locke s Essay Concerning Human Understanding , he makes a distinction between the
sorts of ideas we can conceive of in the perception of objects. Locke separates these perceptions
into primary and secondary qualities. Regardless of any criticism of such a distinction, it is a
necessary one in that, without it, perception would be a haphazard affair. To illustrate this, an
examination of Locke s definition of primary and secondary qualities is necessary.
Starting from common sense notions of perception, namely that there must be something in order to
perceive something, Locke continues by arguing that ideas in the mind correspond to qualities in
the object being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Our senses are limited to a certain stratum of perception. We cannot, with our naked eyes, see the
workings of atoms, nor the interplay of light particles and atoms in objects in the production of
colour. However, we can see the results of those interactions, and when light reflects off an object,
we can absorb that light with our eyes. Now, when that sense stimulus produces an idea in our
minds we interpret it as a colour such as red, green, blue, and so on. This is what Locke meant by
secondary qualities.
With this distinction in mind, primary qualities are necessary for an object to be an object while
secondary qualities are not. Secondary qualities are contingent upon a perceiver to interpret the
sensations produced by primary qualities. Primary qualities are the cause; secondary qualities are
the effect.
Nowhere in this essay has the notion of substance or matter been mentioned but it has been
assumed. The assumption of the notion of substance in the foregoing distinction of primary and
secondary qualities of objects is where George Berkeley s Idealism finds fault with Locke s
materialistic account. What Locke assumes substance to be is what cannot be

Hughes sensory and visual imagery, figurative language, and similes to emphasize the importance
of dreaming and what would life be if no one had dreams. Dreaming is different for everyone and
its up to the dreamer to interpret the meaning. Hughes uses similes to make the reader pause and
ponder the meaning or significance of dreams. Dreaming is significant to some and others
disregard them all together. Dreams are important to Hughes because dreams have no boundaries

Disadvantages And Disadvantages Of Deep Water Running
Introduction
This technical report will analyse existing evaluations of deep water running whilst also exploring
the advantages and disadvantages of deep water running.
Deep Water Running or Aqua Running is the replication of a running style where the subject is
submerged up to the neck in water and is unable to touch the ground (Masumoto et al 2017). It is
used by elite athletes in a variety of situations: as a rehabilitation technique, allowing the athlete to
maintain their cardiovascular fitness whilst injured, as a form of active recovery, increasing heart
rate helping to increase blood flow to muscles, and also in addition to a regular training programme,
allowing more cardiovascular training without excess strain on joints and muscles from the impact
forces of running. A flotation belt is normally used to carry out deep water training in order to copy
the style used by the runner on land (Kilgore).
The use of deep water running is advantageous to an athlete, less pressure is placed upon their
joints and spine allowing them to increase training volume without increasing the risk of injury.
Meanwhile the recovery process from the athletes major training sessions can also be sped up by
deep water running allowing the athlete to train under less fatigue in future sessions.
Deep water running can however provide some disadvantages to an athlete who uses it. To achieve
the same benefits from a training session they must work at a greater perceived effort. The use of

Organization of the Oppressed on Earth and the Revolutionary Justice Organization. Its main
goal is the establishment of an Islamic government across the Arab world that will liberate

hospitals, and agricultural services for the Shiite citizens of Lebanon. (CFR.org) The group is
headquartered in Beirut, with ties in North and South America, Asia, Europe and Africa. It controls
the southern part of Lebanon where the concentration of Shi a is greatest. The political relationship
formed between the Palestinians, Israel and Lebanon helped to expand the group. It s political
strengths have grown since 2008, when the organization took over West Beirut. Hezbollah has

How to Get a Better Grade in College in the Book, The A...
I ve read a book called The A Game by prof. Kenneth J. Sufka. The book is about steps and advices
to get a better grade in college. It is a very useful book to help you to succeed in your college life.
The book includes nine rules, such as never sit in the cheap seats, come to class prepared, get
spaced out, and go to classalways. Also, it shows the bad habits that students usually do and how
they can change these habits, so the author called it a game changer. I think rule #1, which is
come to class always, is related to me, so I will explain it, give an example, and clarify how the
game changer can affect student. Number one rule in the book is go to class always. Many
students used to go to school because their parents force... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the student attended the classes from the beginning of the semester, she wouldn t get in this
trouble. The author mentions in each rule a game changer. It is the ways that can students
change their bad habits. It is also the reasons why students should follow the rules in the book.
The game changer for rule number one are two. First of all, there is no substitute for your own
lectures notes. Even if students are not good note takers, they should attend the class. Each
student attends with his own background information and his own organization style, so he will
suffer a lot when he tries to use his friends lectures notes. Secondly, each class period is a
learning session. Students understand the lecture more if they attend the class even if they are
not good at note taking. Also, they will get higher grade because they didn t miss these learning
sessions. If a student missed a whole week of class, that mean he missed three hours of learning
sessions. That will affect his grade and his understanding of the course. The author adds that you
can only miss classes for three reasons. First, if the student suffers from a disease that could kill
him. Second, if the student have to donate a vital organ, e.g. kidney to save another person. Third,
if the student wife is giving a birth because wives need their husbands at this time. These are the
only excuses to skip classes. In the end of the book, the author

Analysis Of Mountains Beyond Mountains
For my summer reading, I chose to read Mountains Beyond Mountains: the Quest of Dr. Paul
Farmer, a Man Who Would Cure the World. I chose this book without reading the description and
mainly based my selection on the great reviews for this book online as well as the fact that the
author, Tracy Kidder, had won a Pulitzer Prize in the past. Ultimately, this book turned out to be as
remarkable as the reviews stated it was.
2. Paul Farmer had a very unusual upbringing in Massachusetts, Alabama, and Florida. What
specific elements from his childhood and family life prepared Farmer for his current life? How has
your upbringing influenced your own choices and goals in life?
As Kidder discusses Dr. Farmer s childhood, it is easy to see how his nomadic and modest
lifestyle early on helped him adjust to living the life he led in Haiti and around the globe. As a
child, Dr. Farmer not only dealt with moving from state to state, but also having to adjust to
different living conditions ranging from living in a tent to living on bus with his parents and 5
other siblings. Kidder also focuses in on the work ethic his parents exemplified to him and his
five other siblings. They were all taught to appreciate the little they had and to never be
embarrassed for the lack of material objects they did not (Kidder). Most importantly, his family
encouraged Farmer s desire to learn. For example, when he was just a child, Farmer started a
herpetology club where his family stepped in as members

Essay On Fall Out Boy
Save Rock and Roll
After a long tragic four year break up the boys are back and determined to save rock and roll. If
their comeback suggests delusion of grandeur, they re only picking up where they left off.
Fall Out Boy (FOB) is an American rock band from Illinois that originated in 2001, from 2001 to
present time the band has released a total of nine albums, twenty one singles. The band has sold a
total of 7.5 million albums. Sadly in 2010 the band called a quits as Wentz was becoming a

A Common Trope Within International Relations That Is Often
A common trope within international relations that is often discussed by analysts and average
individuals alike, is the inevitable decline of American power. Delving into this trope in his book,
IS THE AMERICAN CENTURY OVER?, Joseph S. NYE, JR, argues that the period of American
pre eminence in military, economic, and soft powerresources is not over (116). In structuring his
argument, Nye first analyzes Europe, Japan, Brazil, and India and their potential role in challenging
America s ability to maintain an international order. Then, Nye turns his attention towards China,
and comparatively analyzes its military, economic, and soft power to that of the United States.
Conversely, Nye explores potential American responses to China s... Show more content on

Within these terms, Nye contextualizes his argument. For example, Nye explains that though
China s economic and military power allow it to be a more of a potent threat than other
challenger, it has a host of domestic issues, ranging from an underdeveloped countryside to rapid
industrialization (50). Even if China were to overcome its domestic problems, which would
translate to an increase in Chinese economic power, a preponderant role for China in the world
economy would not equate to a Chinese hegemony. It s political and military actions would still
have to account for the United States.
Through dissecting how any economic advantage China has over America is negligible, as it comes
at a price for it as well, Nye makes the argument that interdependence constrains China into working
with America in maintaining the international order, rather than working against it. As the United
States derives power from the dollar, much has been said about China s massive holding of dollars,
and how it could potentially use it as a bargaining chip in its relationship with the United States.
However, Nye claims that in the interdependent relationship between the nations, power depends on
asymmetries in interdependence (54). Thus, if China were to dump its dollars on world financial
markets, it could bring America to its knees, but it would also bring

Human Rights Speech Analysis
Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton former First Lady of the United States, gave a phenomenal
twenty minute speech that would change the rights for woman everlastingly. The phenomenal
speech is entitled Woman s Rights are Human Rights, and was delivered to the word on
September fifth, nineteen ninety five. The speech was held at the Fourth World Conference in
Beijing, China. The phenomenal speech was an enormous milestone in the fight for women s
rights around the world. Clinton s speech was motivational, empowering, and impactful for her
audience who listened to her and for woman of every race and nationality. In fact, the speech is
extremely well known over twenty years later. Clinton s twenty minute powerful speech
affected women s role in politics, domestic violence against woman, and woman s role in the
bored room. According to Jana Kasperkevic, a digital reporter from Marketplace, based in New
York, During the 104th session of US Congress, which ran from 1995 to 1997, 50 women were
elected into the 435 member House of Representatives and nine into the 100 seat Senate
(Kasperkevic). Clinton s twenty minute speech made an extraordinary impact on woman in
politics forever. Furthermore, As of January third, two thousand seventeen, during the 114th
session of congress, there are 104 woman who have been elected to represent American voters
84 in the House and 20 in the Senate (Kasperkevic). Today, woman can become president of the
United States, politicians, or even senators. This is an extremely amazing accomplishment
considering just 100 years ago woman did not have the right to vote or voice their opinion in
politics. In 1920 woman were allowed to vote for the first time in American history. For woman
to receive the right to vote it took activist and reformers nearly 100 years to win suffrage rights
for woman (History dot com). Clinton made a positive affect for woman all around the world
because of her twenty minute speech. Additionally, she also made dreams for woman come true.

speech in 1995 and pursued her dreams of becoming a US senator (Gillibrnd). The effect of Clinton

The Tokugawa Period
The Tokugawa era: A country of tranquility With all the struggle the Japanese went though, they
finally were grasping a sense of themselves. This age of curiosity and exploration of a country,
that the world would later know as Japan, was called the Tokugawa period. As a result of their
newfound self, came art and more specifically, woodblock prints. These woodblock prints are
significant to the Tokugawa era because they reflected what was going on during that period,
including: what was currently happening, how the people viewed the world, and what new
discoveries were made. During the Tokugawa era, the woodblock prints show that this was a time

the beauty of Tsukudajima s starry night, almond eye moon, and colorful sky sitting on the

The Conscription Crisis Of World War One
A famous quote by Canadian Prime Minister, Mackenzie King, in World War Two is, Conscription
if necessary, but not necessarily conscription (Persico, 199). The conscription crisis during World
War One and World War Two had a negative effect on Canadian society. First of all, the
Conscription Crisis of World War One, taking place between 1917 and 1918, introduced many
important events for Canadian history. Furthermore, in World War Two, conscription
is established
yet again between 1944 and 1945. This reintroduction of conscription took place for many reasons,
and led to a negative impact throughout Canada. Lastly, many people attempted to prevent
conscription, such as Prime Minister McKenzie King. Therefore the conscription crisis of
World War One had a negative effect on Canada. Conscription was initially created during The
Great War, also known as World War One, by Canada s Prime Minister Robert Borden. Robert
Borden introduced the Conscription Bill, also known as the Military Service Act. Canada
introduced Conscription for many reasons, but mainly due to the lack of volunteers. Casualties
were rising and fewer men were volunteering for a sure death in no man s land (Perisco, 198). By
the beginning of October 1914, 30,000 Canadians volunteered for war. However, enlistments fell
and the number dropped drastically when men began to recognize the number of casualties caused
by battle. Families were unwilling to sacrifice their men and Canada could see that battle field

The Importance Of Species Diversity
Introduction A key component of any ecosystem on Earth is the presence of plants. Within these
plants, variation and diversity are abundant. Plants can vary in many characteristics, such as leaf
structure, height, bark structure, and diameter at breast height. The culmination of this variety
among plants is termed the biodiversityof plants, which encompasses three realms: species
diversity, genetic diversity, and ecosystem diversity. Species diversity pertains to the variety of
species in a specific ecosystem. Genetic diversity refers to variation in specific traits among
individuals of the same species. Finally, ecosystem diversity refers to the variation of ecosystems
in a specific area. For purposes of this study, we will only focus on species diversity. Studying
species diversity of plants entails measuring the amount and size of different species in a given
area. The importance of this type of study stretches far beyond observation and results. Species
diversity among plants in an ecosystem is vital to the sustainability of that ecosystem. An
ecosystem with greater species diversity uses its resources more efficiently, making it more
productive. In addition, greater plantdiversity leads to greater community biomass due to reduced
nutrient loss and increased carbon reserves (Tilman and Lehman, 1997). Our study primarily
focuses on the species diversity of trees at the Case Western Reserve Universityfarm. More
specifically, the area of interest is the wooded area to

The Causes Of The Border Patrol
This scenario is playing out on America s borders every day. The organization that manages the
Border Patrol, Customs and Border Protection, has become the largest federal law enforcement
agency in the nation, and with that distinction comes some scrutiny. Two articles were written,
the first by The New York Times, the other by the Associated Press, that highlighted some
disturbing trends within the agency. The number of Border Patrol agents more than doubled
between 2004 and 2011, when they grew to over 20,000 employees, and that number continued
to rise, reaching over 21,000 today. Since...September 11, 2001, the focus of the Border Patrol
has changed to detection, apprehension and/or deterrence of terrorists or terrorist weapons, but
as the agency uses that motto to grow its, it has become increasingly clear that they are more
concerned with keeping certain people out than keeping the border safe. Increase in suicides
among Border Patrol agents causes alarm, by the Associated Press Paul J. Weber addresses the
disturbing trend of suicides among Border Patrol agents. Between February 2008 and August
2010, 15 Border Patrol agents had taken their own lives. There had not been a single suicide in
the agency for four years prior to that point. To further illustrate the significance of that trend: the
national rate of suicide at the time was 12 for every 100,000 people. The Border Patrol s rate was
at 30 per 100,000. So why the sudden spike? Some officials and family members

Should Textbooks Be Taught In Schools Research Paper
Technology constantly evolves, adding new features, applications, and creative opportunities for
advancements. However, some critics consider education as archaic and unimaginative, for it
preserves the practices of pencil and paper, textbooks and notes.
In the past decade, technology advanced faster than previously before, forcing the question whether
schools and communities should integrate technology with education. In addition, boards consider
how much is appropriate to include in the educational standards while maintaining a balance with
traditional methods.
Schools argue that these tablets or other technological devices are a cost burden on the school
district since they have to pay and maintain a higher bandwidth cost, in addition to the initial cost
of purchasing the tablets. Implementation costs for e textbooks on iPad tablets are 552% higher
than new print textbooks in an average high school, and the annual cost per student per class with
tablets is $71.55 vs. $14.26 for print textbooks ( Should Tablets Replace Textbooks in K 12

Comparing The Book Of Proverbs And Ecclesiastes
Looking at the books of wisdom of the Old Testament, the ideas of diligence and laziness have
been greatly captured. Diligence has been displayed in a much positive way, unlike laziness which
has been greatly condemned and looked down upon in most of the books of wisdom in the Old
Testament (Hindson and Yates 2012). Though the two ideas looked to have been intertwined
making them closely related, they are totally different from each other. It must be understood that
the books of proverbs and Ecclesiastes are the books of wisdomthat have handled the two ideas in
more expansive manner and thus become our center of focus as we discuss the two in greater details.

In this, we are able to infer that listening to a diligent person is more important than listening to a
lazy person. This is because a diligent person is a person who is full of wisdom, unlike a lazy
person who is full of foolishness (Ecclesiastes 10:10 12 RSV). It has been stated in the book of
Ecclesiastes that those words that come out of the mouth of a wise person are more gracious
and blessing than those that comes out of a foolish person whose words are full of foolishness
and their end is mere madness. It is, therefore, clear that those words that come out of a diligent
person have a lot of wisdom are greatly valued as compared to those words that come out of a
lazy person which are full of foolishness. Such words can only lead to madness and nothing good
can ever come out of them as compared to those from a diligent person which are more gracious
and valuable. Laziness is therefore regarded as evil and has nothing good to offer to anyone and
no one should pay attention to people with such qualities and tendencies. Ecclesiastes encourages
us to pay more attention to the diligent people as they have a lot of wisdom which if put into
practice; the results are good and much

Symbolism In The Drummer Boy Of Shiloh
The story, The Drummer Boy of Shiloh , by Ray Bradbury, has many elements that can relate to
real life. In my life I have a father figure who encourages me, I have a hopeful heartbeat, and I am

hopeful heartbeat, and the general resembles a father figure telling Joby to overcome his fear.
One of the most important elements of symbolism in the story is having a father figure to
encourage you.Joby, a boy of 14, ran away from home and decided to join the army in April
1862.Then the general, Joby s father figure, encouraged him to overcome his fear of never seeing

the army when they were fighting. My life can relate to Joby s because four years I got a father

Globalization Of The American Style Fast Food
Globalization is one of the most popular issues that have been discussed through the
world by the sociologist for decades.(James A. D, Dick. P, Yongseok Seo 2006)
According to John Tomlinson s (Tomlinson 2006) cognition of globalization. He
interprets that:
Globalization is a complex process because it involves rapid social
change that is occurring simultaneously across a number of dimensions in the world
economy, in politics, in communications, in the physical environment and in culture
and each of these transformations interact with the others. (p. 1)
As far as I am concerned, globalization is happening around daily life. For example,
McDonalds, they start from a small restaurant in California to one of the world s
leading food service retailers, with more than 35000 restaurants in more than a
hundred countries.(McDonald 2014) McDonalds spread the American style fast food
worldwide. This can be seen as a globalization of food culture.
Since the societies are becoming more and more alike nowadays and leading to a
phenomenon known as globalization. Some people afraid that globalization will lead
to the loss of cultural identify while some think it can have a good impact on the
societies. Based on the bookгЂЉGolden Arches East: McDonald s in East

How Does Light Intensity Affect The Refraction Of Light
Refraction
The term refraction is the bending behaviour of light when it passes through from one transparent
medium to another transparent medium such as water, glass, vacuum, air, plastic etc.
Refraction of Light
The refraction of light shows that light refracts every time it travels at an angle from a medium to
the next medium with a different refractive index (optical density).
The refraction of light demonstrate that change of direction which light travels is caused by a
change in speed of light. There will be a change in wavelength when light changes the direction it is
traveling, which will then change the speed of light.
The Refraction of Light Wave:
Base on the diagram below, light travels from air into water, the light refract, causing the speed of
light to slow down, making light continue to travel at a different direction. The change of direction
is called refraction, as light enters from a less dense medium to a denser medium, light should
refract (bends) more towards the normal line.

The Relationship between Mathematics and Music
After scanning through the topics, and doing some research on our first topic which was soccer and
math, we decided there wasn t enough information surrounding this topic. Our next choice was
music and math, surprisingly, the research for this topic was much easier and more information
was gathered. After learning more about the geometry aspect of the relationship of musicand math,
we then found some topics about music could relate to things learned in the second semester of
Algebra two.
Music and mathematics have been in relation to one another since music was discovered. Even the
simplest type of music such as beating on some bongos has math behind it. Even though music has
always been related to math, the relationship wasn t found in the very beginning. In fact, this
relationship was said to be found during the time of the Pythagoras during the 1700 s: one of the
most basic facts about music is the musical scale which was the first relation discovered. Later on
the basic is the interval between two notes which is known as the octave and in a 2:1 ratio. The
next ratio discovered was the 3:2 ratios also known as the perfect fifth. As time went on the
Pythagorean scale was constructed which goes by fifths the name Pythagorean scale was named
after the Pythagoras who first discovered the close relationship between math and music. As time

technology products (DataMonitor, 2011).
Visibility: HTC s products are easily visible and customers can view them beforehand in the
company s website (DataMonitor, 2011).

1.3 Value chain analysis
It is important to evaluate the value chain since different countries around the world provide
different raw materials (Gundlach et al., 2006). All these materials have to maintain a certain level
of quality as a way of standardising the products. This standardisation is necessary to ensure quality
is not compromised and therefore, putting the company in a better

Comparison Between Merce Cunningham And Martha Grahame
The world of contemporary dance is one that is constantly developing and pushing the boundaries
of what makes dance more than just movement. However, it is questionable that it would be in this
diverse state if it was not for a few revolutionary choreographers. Along with Martha Grahame is
could be argued that Merce Cunningham was a pioneering, revolutionary choreographer who
questioned given standards and procedures creating the diverse contemporary style that we know
today. Revolutionary can be defined as something radically new or innovative; outside or beyond
established procedure and principles (Dictionary.com, 2017). In order for something to be
revolutionary it has to be in relation to something else, this is certainly true for Cunningham s

Sacrifice In Margaret Atwood s Spelling
The term sacrifice can provoke different connotations, whether it is through religion, or giving
something up for someone else, or and offering. Regardless, sacrifices have become a staple in
culture throughout history, and the meaning has shifted and grown with time. In Margaret
Atwood s poem, Spelling images of women and sacrifice become a prevalent part. The poem
speaks to women who have made sacrifices and the literal sacrifices that women have become
through the course of history. Atwood, through the images and tales of sacrifice, exposes the
oppression of women as authors and as mothers, and more specifically through the act of language
and writing. In the second stanza of the poem, the narrator of Spelling poses the question of how
many women have sacrificed having daughters, in order to pursue their careers as writers, as well
as the action needed for a women writer to accomplish this: I wonder how many women denied
themselves daughters, closed themselves in rooms, drew the curtains so that they could mainline
words. (7 11) With... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this case, the woman has again become the literal sacrifice for the sake of men. Witch
burnings were done when a women was said to be possessed by evil spirits or had made a deal
with the devil. The use of the word Ancestress (21) indicates that this witch is the predecessor for
all current women writers. When her mouth is covered (22), she is being blocked, unable to
speak and share her thoughts. The leather (22) is used to strangle (23) words. The use of strangle
has a double meaning. The first is the rope strangles her and physically crushes her vocal cords so
she is incapable of speech. It also is used to strangle her words, to stop them before she is able to
vocalize, or write them

ABSTRACT
New materials with distinctive properties are arising and attracting the scientific community at
regular intervals. Stiffness and strength are the important factors in determining stability and
lifetime of any technological devices, but defects which are inevitable at the time of production can
alter the structural properties of any engineering materials. Developing graphene with specific
structural properties depends upon controlling these defects, either by removing or deliberately
engineering atomic structure to gain or tailoring specific properties. In the present article, a
comprehensive review of defective graphene sheets with respect to its mechanical and thermal
properties are presented and examined.
Key Words: Graphene; point defects; line defects; molecular dynamics; atomistic modeling; fracture
toughness. Introduction
Graphene is emerging as a potential candidate for developing nanocomposites with desired
mechanical properties, thermal and electrical conductivities. Due to its exceptional mechanical
properties, thermal and electrical conductivities graphene can also be used for more conventional
purposes as compared to carbon nano tubes, which is

Contrary to Kirchick s The End of Europe, Fisher states that Hungary is a democracy . Hungary has
a spectrum of political parties, with fair elections. The government allows for debates and public
demonstrations, without the use of force. Several Hungarian and international new reports have

Like many other Nazi occupied countries, Hungary suffered great loss of Jewish citizens.
Similarity to other Nazi occupied countries, Hungarian authorities with alliance with German
authorities removed many Jewish people out from Hungary. The Hungarian government and
Orban himself, deny that the Hungarian government had anything to do with the expulsion of
thousands of Jewish citizens. Orban admits that only individual officials of Hungary and not the
Hungarian government collaborated. One of the major controversies of this campaigned was the
Memorial to the Victims of the German Occupation. The memorial gives tribute to the
thousands of Hungarian Jews affected during the war, but faced backlash for being too literal
and an attack to Germans. It blamed only German on the anti Semitism in Hungary and take
responsibility for the own faults. In Orban s words It can hardly be disputed that Germany bears
responsibility for what happened after March 19, 1994.... We cannot bear a responsibility that is
not ours to bear. He also makes it clear that it was Germans and not Nazis who were responsible
for the occupation of Hungary. Attacking Germany for the Nazi s crime is not new to Europe,
however this sort of antagonization of Germany really does not make since in modern times.
Germany has taken serious step in combating the rise of extreme right

  • 2. Socrates Justice The topic of justice is constantly debated by the philosopher Socrates. Though he had many different discussions with many different people throughout his life, Socrates was never able to decide what he believed justice was. In one particular discussion with two of his comrades, Glaucon and Adeimantus , Socrates realized that studying an individual wouldn t help him learn the true meaning of justice. If he really wanted to understand justice, it might be easier to try to observe it in a large group rather than a single person. By observing what justice was in a community, there was a possibility that finding a justice in a single person would become much easier. The three men then decided to create a theoretical city and examine the different... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Certain professions allow some people to earn more money than others in a society. Those with more wealth are able to by more luxuries and tend to become addicted to the luxurious lifestyle that they have earned. The rich start to become greedy, and want to be able to maintain their own wealth without doing much work, even if it means acting unjustly. Conversely, those who don t make as much money may struggle to keep themselves out of poverty. It is more difficult to provide food and shelter for themselves, which may lead to things like stealing and other unjust acts. This system of wealth and poverty create large amounts of injustice in societies around the world, but eliminating wealth and poverty won t make things any better. In order to completely eliminate wealth and poverty, you would need to eliminate the idea of money. If no one can earn more or less than others, no one can be wealthy or impoverished. But without money, injustice would be even more prominent than before. In the beginning of Republic Glaucon argues the following: Indeed every man believes that injustice is far more profitable to himself than justice ( Plato pg. 37). Each of us subconsciously tries to do what is best for ourselves. We want to be able to survive in the world and before we can even think about doing things for other people, we have to make sure that we are taken care of. If this city didn t have money, ... Both face to face interaction and social networking sites (including Myspace, Twitter, and Facebook) are forms of staying in contact with friends and family. While Nora from Turkle s Alone together communicates her engagement and wedding date via email to her closest friends and family, she could have easily announced it face to face, at a party or through a Facebook event. • 4. Analysis Of The BookO Pioneers, By Willa Cather A woman running a farm was a taboo topic in the late 19th century. She was met with sexism and resentment from her peers. In O Pioneers!, the narrator, Alexandra Bergson, shares the same perseverance and feminist perspective as the author Willa Cather does; in addition, the novel reflects the hardships and strengths faced by American pioneers in the 1890 s. Cather was inspired by the vast possibility of the land that she grew up in, and incorporated that important aspect of her life into the novel. Professor Amy Ahearn elaborated that Cather put the shaggy grass country at the center of the novel, and allowed the form of the land to provide the structure of the book (Ahearn). Her precious childhood hometown was the basis of the setting of her novel. Alexandra s parents similarly immigrated to Nebraska from Norway, and ran a large and successful farm. As her father was dying, he gave her the responsibility to run the farm in his place, as she was the one best suited for the task, surpassing her brothers. Further, journalist Amy Ahearn describes that Alexandra had lost her gaiety and her femininity as she domesticated and enlarged the property (Ahearn). As she ran the farm, she consequently had various aspects of her persona changed. As a result of her hard work to change and run the farm, Alexandra herself changes from a quiet lady to a prudent tomboy. Observations are a way to bring a teacher down. They are conducted in a way that degrades the teacher and does not offer any constructive criticism. This creates a climate where teachers feel inferior and ineffective when in reality the school and its teachers are not. Kallestad (2010) states that school climate has clear parallels to other concepts like school culture and teachers professional communities. This climate also gives outsiders the perception that the school is ineffective when again, that is not the case as shown through test scores. The principal has the power to change these deficits into opportunities. She creates the schedule and could easily set a schedule where teachers had collaboration time built into their day. • 7. Is Children’s Development a Universal Staged Process or a... Is Children s development a universal staged process or a social and cultural process? There are three main approaches to child development, the scientific, the social constructionist and the applied approach. Each of these approaches look at children s development from a different stand point. I will go on to explore each approach in turn and how they can help us answer the above question. The scientific approach to child development seeks to explain the facts about child development. It does this by devising theories which are then tested through observations and experiments. A classic example of this is Jean Piaget (1896 1890) who was one of the most influential theorists in child development. Piaget built up a theory about how ... Another example is, Maya s (U212 Video 1, band 1) experiences of childhood in the poor area Chittagong being different to the twins Yasir and Yamin s experiences in middle class Chittagong. Each have different expectations of their roles within society according to their social boundaries, gender, family and beliefs. Central to the social constructionist approach is the concept of competing discourses of childhood. A discourse is a particular way of thinking or a particular view point that is influenced by our gender, language, history, beliefs, experiences and social boundaries. There are numerous discourses but a romantic discourse sees children as inherently good; a child would only do terrible things if damaged in some way. Contrary to this is the puritanical discourse which sees the child as inherently evil, doing evil things because they are wicked and need punishing. Locke separates these perceptions into primary and secondary qualities. Regardless of any criticism of such a distinction, it is a necessary one in that, without it, perception would be a haphazard affair. To illustrate this, an examination of Locke s definition of primary and secondary qualities is necessary. Starting from common sense notions of perception, namely that there must be something in order to perceive something, Locke continues by arguing that ideas in the mind correspond to qualities in the object being ... We cannot, with our naked eyes, see the workings of atoms, nor the interplay of light particles and atoms in objects in the production of colour. However, we can see the results of those interactions, and when light reflects off an object, we can absorb that light with our eyes. Now, when that sense stimulus produces an idea in our minds we interpret it as a colour such as red, green, blue, and so on. This is what Locke meant by secondary qualities. With this distinction in mind, primary qualities are necessary for an object to be an object while secondary qualities are not. Secondary qualities are contingent upon a perceiver to interpret the sensations produced by primary qualities. Primary qualities are the cause; secondary qualities are the effect. Nowhere in this essay has the notion of substance or matter been mentioned but it has been assumed. The assumption of the notion of substance in the foregoing distinction of primary and secondary qualities of objects is where George Berkeley s Idealism finds fault with Locke s materialistic account. Disadvantages And Disadvantages Of Deep Water Running Introduction This technical report will analyse existing evaluations of deep water running whilst also exploring the advantages and disadvantages of deep water running. Deep Water Running or Aqua Running is the replication of a running style where the subject is submerged up to the neck in water and is unable to touch the ground (Masumoto et al 2017). It is used by elite athletes in a variety of situations: as a rehabilitation technique, allowing the athlete to maintain their cardiovascular fitness whilst injured, as a form of active recovery, increasing heart rate helping to increase blood flow to muscles, and also in addition to a regular training programme, allowing more cardiovascular training without excess strain on joints and muscles from the impact forces of running. A flotation belt is normally used to carry out deep water training in order to copy the style used by the runner on land (Kilgore). The use of deep water running is advantageous to an athlete, less pressure is placed upon their joints and spine allowing them to increase training volume without increasing the risk of injury. Meanwhile the recovery process from the athletes major training sessions can also be sped up by deep water running allowing the athlete to train under less fatigue in future sessions. What specific elements from his childhood and family life prepared Farmer for his current life? How has your upbringing influenced your own choices and goals in life? As Kidder discusses Dr. Farmer s childhood, it is easy to see how his nomadic and modest lifestyle early on helped him adjust to living the life he led in Haiti and around the globe. As a child, Dr. Farmer not only dealt with moving from state to state, but also having to adjust to different living conditions ranging from living in a tent to living on bus with his parents and 5 other siblings. Kidder also focuses in on the work ethic his parents exemplified to him and his five other siblings. They were all taught to appreciate the little they had and to never be embarrassed for the lack of material objects they did not (Kidder). • 25. A Common Trope Within International Relations That Is Often A common trope within international relations that is often discussed by analysts and average individuals alike, is the inevitable decline of American power. Delving into this trope in his book, IS THE AMERICAN CENTURY OVER?, Joseph S. NYE, JR, argues that the period of American pre eminence in military, economic, and soft powerresources is not over (116). In structuring his argument, Nye first analyzes Europe, Japan, Brazil, and India and their potential role in challenging America s ability to maintain an international order. Then, Nye turns his attention towards China, and comparatively analyzes its military, economic, and soft power to that of the United States. Conversely, Nye explores potential American responses to China s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Within these terms, Nye contextualizes his argument. For example, Nye explains that though China s economic and military power allow it to be a more of a potent threat than other challenger, it has a host of domestic issues, ranging from an underdeveloped countryside to rapid industrialization (50). Even if China were to overcome its domestic problems, which would translate to an increase in Chinese economic power, a preponderant role for China in the world economy would not equate to a Chinese hegemony. It s political and military actions would still have to account for the United States. Through dissecting how any economic advantage China has over America is negligible, as it comes at a price for it as well, Nye makes the argument that interdependence constrains China into working with America in maintaining the international order, rather than working against it. As the United States derives power from the dollar, much has been said about China s massive holding of dollars, and how it could potentially use it as a bargaining chip in its relationship with the United States. However, Nye claims that in the interdependent relationship between the nations, power depends on asymmetries in interdependence (54). The phenomenal speech is entitled Woman s Rights are Human Rights, and was delivered to the word on September fifth, nineteen ninety five. The speech was held at the Fourth World Conference in Beijing, China. The phenomenal speech was an enormous milestone in the fight for women s rights around the world. This age of curiosity and exploration of a country, that the world would later know as Japan, was called the Tokugawa period. The conscription crisis during World War One and World War Two had a negative effect on Canadian society. First of all, the Conscription Crisis of World War One, taking place between 1917 and 1918, introduced many important events for Canadian history. Furthermore, in World War Two, conscription is established yet again between 1944 and 1945. This reintroduction of conscription took place for many reasons, and led to a negative impact throughout Canada. Lastly, many people attempted to prevent conscription, such as Prime Minister McKenzie King. Therefore the conscription crisis of World War One had a negative effect on Canada. Conscription was initially created during The Great War, also known as World War One, by Canada s Prime Minister Robert Borden. Robert Borden introduced the Conscription Bill, also known as the Military Service Act. Canada introduced Conscription for many reasons, but mainly due to the lack of volunteers. Casualties were rising and fewer men were volunteering for a sure death in no man s land (Perisco, 198). By the beginning of October 1914, 30,000 Canadians volunteered for war. However, enlistments fell and the number dropped drastically when men began to recognize the number of casualties caused by battle. • 30. The Importance Of Species Diversity Introduction A key component of any ecosystem on Earth is the presence of plants. Within these plants, variation and diversity are abundant. Plants can vary in many characteristics, such as leaf structure, height, bark structure, and diameter at breast height. The culmination of this variety among plants is termed the biodiversityof plants, which encompasses three realms: species diversity, genetic diversity, and ecosystem diversity. Species diversity pertains to the variety of species in a specific ecosystem. Genetic diversity refers to variation in specific traits among individuals of the same species. Finally, ecosystem diversity refers to the variation of ecosystems in a specific area. For purposes of this study, we will only focus on species diversity. Studying species diversity of plants entails measuring the amount and size of different species in a given area. The importance of this type of study stretches far beyond observation and results. Species diversity among plants in an ecosystem is vital to the sustainability of that ecosystem. An ecosystem with greater species diversity uses its resources more efficiently, making it more productive. In addition, greater plantdiversity leads to greater community biomass due to reduced nutrient loss and increased carbon reserves (Tilman and Lehman, 1997). Our study primarily focuses on the species diversity of trees at the Case Western Reserve Universityfarm. More specifically, the area of interest is the wooded area to ... It has been stated in the book of Ecclesiastes that those words that come out of the mouth of a wise person are more gracious and blessing than those that comes out of a foolish person whose words are full of foolishness and their end is mere madness. It is, therefore, clear that those words that come out of a diligent person have a lot of wisdom are greatly valued as compared to those words that come out of a lazy person which are full of foolishness. How Does Light Intensity Affect The Refraction Of Light Refraction The term refraction is the bending behaviour of light when it passes through from one transparent medium to another transparent medium such as water, glass, vacuum, air, plastic etc. Refraction of Light The refraction of light shows that light refracts every time it travels at an angle from a medium to the next medium with a different refractive index (optical density). The refraction of light demonstrate that change of direction which light travels is caused by a change in speed of light. There will be a change in wavelength when light changes the direction it is traveling, which will then change the speed of light.
