Medical Monitors for the Heart and Brain
Arterial lines (A lines) are a monitoring device inserted into arterial vascular system that is used to
assess blood pressure. A transducer in the device is used to translate the arterial pressure into electrical
impulses (Kaur, 2006). It secures the most accurate and precise measurements on a continuous basis
by obtaining intra arterial pressure. These factors, over the manual and non invasive blood pressure
cuffs, makes the A line advantageous particularly in patients that are receiving vasodilator/vasoactive
infusion therapies. The tubing leading the patient also has a specialized port for ready access to arterial
blood samples.
The waveform display is the interpreted reading from the transducer. The waveform reflects the
accuracy and integrity of the actual blood pressure value. Impaired circulation integrity, external blood
pressure devices, incorrect leveling/zeroing of the transducer, air bubbles in the tubing, and arterial
stenosis can impair the arterial lines readings. Infusing intravenous fluids is contraindicated. Sterility
must be maintained during application and dressing changes. It is preferable to use the patient s non
dominant hand to decrease the chances of dislodgement, hemorrhage, and injury. The head of the
patient s must be at or lower than 60 degrees and the level of the transducer must align with
phlebostatic axis to ensure accurate readings (Iversen, 2011). It is necessary to use pressured flushing
solutions at 300 mg Hg to maintain patency and

Unit 4 Heat And Temperature
Unit 4: Heat and Temperature
Topic A: Illustrate and explain how human needs have led to technologies for obtaining and
controlling thermal energy and to increased use of energy resources.
Investigate and interpret examples of heat related technologies and energy used in the past (e.g.
domestic and industrial purposes)
Steam engines were the first engine type to see use in industrial purposes. A fire heats water which
turns to steam and the steam then has the ability to move things. They were first invented by Thomas
Newcomen in 1705, and James Watt (a Scottish inventor) made big improvements to steam engines in
1769. Steam engines powered all early cars, steamboats and factories.

Describe the effect of heat on the motion of particles, and explain changes of state using the particle
model of matter.
There are four basic components for thermal energy (heat): 1. All matter is made up of tiny particles
called atoms. These can only be seen with special microscopes. 2. The atoms are always moving they
all have kinetic energy. 3. The particles have space between them. Different states of matter have
different amounts of space. 4. Adding heat (energy) to matter makes the particles move more quickly.
Since faster moving things have more kinetic energy, adding heat increases the energy of the particle.
5. Cooling it down decreases the amount of kinetic energy and slows the movement down.
Distinguish between heat and temperature, and explain temperature using the concept of kinetic
energy and the particle model of matter.
Temperature: the average kinetic energy of individual atoms and molecules
Heat Energy: The collection of random molecules in action.
Compare heat transmission in different materials (e.g., conduction of heat in different solids,
absorption of radiant heat by different

The Reform Era Of The Twentieth Century
In the history of the United States, working men and women have attempted to survive the social,
political, economic, and social changes from the eighteenth through the twenty first centuries. In order
to ensure their survival, these working people chose from a range possibilities to organize and
strengthen within the restrictions and opportunities of political, structural, and cultural situations. This
paper will prove that throughout the Antebellum period, the long nineteenth century, the reform era of
the twentieth century and up through present day, the United States working people have been
responsible for both their successes and failures in their organizing attempts, but during contrasting
eras, other entities such as the government, employers, and the economy have been responsible for the
successes and failures of the organization workers. In looking at the historiography of United States
Labor History, it is clear that the methodology in explaining the workers attempts to organize shifts
over time, much like who was responsible for the successes and failures of labor organization. Labor
Historian John R. Commons was perhaps the pioneer of writing the history of labor and its
unionization. Commons writes from the perspective of progressivism and has written that the wage
earner, as a distinct class, has been gradually, even violently, separating himself from the farmer, the
merchant and the employer and coming to feel that his standing and progress in society

How to Set Up Your Own Fm Radio Station
How To Set Up Your Own FM Radio Station Licensing And Start Up Issues
There are several ways to set up your own radio station. It depends on how serious you are about it.
The single most important thing you should know before you get started is why would you need to
start your own radio station?
Maybe, it s because you are a DJ or you have a band and want to reach an audience with your songs.
Maybe, you have a huge collection of rock music and want to share it with the world. Maybe you are a
member of club and want to make money by broadcasting a certain type of music along with
commercials. Maybe you are a candidate and want to spread the word about your nomination and your
speeches. Or maybe you are just person who is passionate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In New Zealand, there are no ongoing fees to operate this type of station however you do need to pay
nominal annual fees to APRA and RIANZ for music royalties. You do need to ensure however that
your transmission equipment is compliant with Radio Spectrum Management regulations.
Additionally, as is the case with any radio station, all your broadcasts need to comply with the
Broadcasting Act. Fundamentally this means your broadcasts must be in good taste. The advantages
that a low power FM radio station have over a commercial station is that is is much less expensive to
set up at the outset, your likelihood of finding a suitable frequency are much higher, and there are far
fewer ongoing costs.
When operating a low power FM station, you need to determine who your audience is. If you are
broadcasting in an area where there are already a number of resident commercial stations, you may
enjoy more success by broadcasting niche programming that appeals to an audience not currently
served by the full power FM stations. Alternatively for those who are located in a more rural area or
town, you then have the opportunity to set your station up as the local alternative to what is already
available. Generally a local station competing against a station being beamed in by satellite from one
of the main centres will attract a great deal of local community support.
When it comes to setting up or starting up a low power FM radio

Soccer Field Goal Kick
When it comes to kicking a soccer ball it depends on the force and distance of the kick. A field goal
kick will be different from a pass in a combination play. Mental preparation has to be used to be ready
for the kick. When kicking a field goal, laces kick will be used (toe down, power in knee flexion). A
successful kick is usually defined in the velocity of the ball (which needs greater swing limb/ foot
speed), or the accuracy of direction of kick, which relies on the position of the plant (non kicking) foot
and hip position at impact. There are different stages for analysis movement of a soccer field goal
kick. A player does not stand still when kicking a field goal. The player determines the angle and
direction of the kick. The diagonal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Chronic Bronchitis
The clinical findings that correlate with M.K s Chronic bronchitis are the chronic cough with sputum
and the fact that she has smoked for twenty two years. Chronic bronchitis is defined as a daily cough
with sputum production for at least three consecutive months for two years in a row. Chronic
bronchitis is also usually associated with long term tobacco use. When you have COPD, the airways
of the lungs become inflamed and thickened which make them narrow. They can become clogged with
mucus and makes it difficult for air to get in and out of the lungs. Which leads to persistent coughing
as your body tries to get rid of the extra mucus.
The type of treatment and recommendations that would be appropriate for M.K. s chronic bronchitis is

Irrationality Of Love Essay
Irrationality of Love
An Analysis of Pride and Prejudice and Bright Star
The relentless rivalry between passion and reason is a captivating conflict that often becomes the crux
of innumerable pieces of literature. Admirably, the novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen and the
poem Bright Star by John Keats are renowned because the quarrelling emotions and judgements in
characters evokes empathy in the reader as this conflict typifies a timeless theme. In light of the fact
that the novel and poem share a common theme, it is evident that the story told in the poem mirrors
how Darcy s affections for Elizabeth compete with the standards of his immediate society.
Undoubtedly, the lines, the diction, and the different literary devices of Bright ... Show more content

The narrator enforces a reproachful tone by using a simile to compare his possible life to that of a
hermit s as he deplores, Like nature s patient, sleepless Eremite (Keats 4). A hermit symbolizes
seclusion and boredom in one s life as human hermits are in radical circumstances, people who live in
absolute solitude with no need for communication and are no longer dependant on anyone. Although
Anne de Bourgh -whom Darcy is expected to wed- is not a literal hermit living completely
secluded from companions, her painfully reserved and quiet nature boasts similarities. Even Mr.
Collins, who crows over his particular fond acquaintanceship to the de Bourgh women, describes
Anne as a unfortunately of a sickly constitution which has prevented her making that progress in many
accomplishments (Austen 124). Interestingly, the weight of a hermit s shell secludes the being inside,
but it also protects the organism which ironically parallels how Anne is protected by her illness. These
diseases strain her health making her isolated; however, they give an excuse for her timid nature and
unaccomplished life which render her mundane. Thus, the poem s criticizing tone towards the isolated
life the narrator hopes to evade reflects the unattractive life of Anne

Introduction
Technical Analysis Ralph Langner s article on the Stuxnet worm discusses the hardware, distribution
and targets of the attack. He also goes into detail regarding the outlook of future attacks and what we
can do to prevent them. The Stuxnet attack was not executed to steal or erase information. It was
carried out to physically destroy a military target; Iran s Natanz nuclear facility. The attack was aimed
at industrial SCADA controllers and was a stand alone attack. It was not an attack that required access
to the Internet. The attackers relied on local networks and USB drives to carry out the attack. ... Show

This allowed the worm to be recognized as a device driver and to not be rejected by the Windows
operating system. The early version of the worm functioned as a man in the middle attack. It sat
between the engineering software and the Siemens controllers for the input and output valves feeding
into each centrifuge. The worm would accept commands from the engineering software and give false
responses to indicate that these commands were being processed by the controllers. In reality, the
worm was regularly allowing the centrifuges to be over pressurized, which had the effect of causing
the centrifuges to wear out and break more quickly. The later version of the software was much more
crude. It would take over the centrifuges and refuse to acknowledge signals from the engineering
software while an attack was active. The attack operated about once a month and worked by slowing
down the centrifuges and then spinning them back up to past their normal full speed. This would cause
damage as the centrifuges passed through what was known as a resonance speed, which would
destabilize the rotor. Stuxnet managed to increase the rotor speeds at Iran s Natanz nuclear facility
from a normal speed of 63,000 rpm to 84,600 rpm. The worms were carefully designed so that it
would not be obvious to someone in the facility that their mechanical systems were being sabotaged.
For example, the worm would randomly affect different centrifuges at

Changes In Pepe
Pepe, the nineteen year old protagonist in John Steinbeck s short story Flight , changes both physically
and mentally on many occasions during his journeys. He first changes, mostly mentally and less
physically, when he learns about his impending trip into Monterey from Mama. Later, Pepe drastically
changes physically, yet little mentally, upon his return from Monterey. Lastly during his journey into
the mountains, Pepe changes significantly both physically and mentally. The idea of manhood plays an
important part in this story since its role is central to Pepe s development. The oldest man in the
family, Pepe does not take his position seriously, but rather he acts childish and maintains a
materialistic view of the world. Before his adventure, Mama gives the first description of Pepe when
she calls him so lazy that she claims ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Speaking of mental change, Pepe s idea of what a man does and acts noticeably changes along his
adventures. Similar to his original mental attitude, which focused solely on material possessions, he
first believes that a man is defined by his possessions, his hat, handkerchief, horse and least of all
actions. Then, on his return from Monterey he tells Mama that the man said name to me [Pepe] that I
[Pepe] could not allow (135). Pepe s reasoning is that he is a man now, and so he must protect his
manhood violently when it is insulted. The last change in his definition of manhood occurs just before
Pepe dies, when he physically stands up and faces his death boldly and bravely. Commonly, people
today associate manhood with violence, strength, and possessions, just like Pepe does. This is not a
true representation of adulthood. As an adult, it is responsibility, sacrifice, and maturity that
differentiate a man from a boy. It is not how a person appears or acts, but rather their reasoning and
drive that define

Coco Mexican Culture
Characters of the movie also help to display Mexican culture. Surprisingly, one of the characters that
does this is Miguel s street dog, Dante. The dog is a breed called the Xoloitzcuintli, which are believed
to be spiritual protectors in Mexican culture. In Coco, Dante shows this through guiding Miguel
through the Land of the Dead and making him meet Hector, who turns out to be the twelve year old
protagonist s great great grandfather. The valuable breed is also said to be able to travel between the
Land of the Dead and the Land of the Living, which is exactly what Dante does in Coco by journeying
with Miguel. Pixar also shows alebrijes; colorful animals in Mexican folk art; in Coco. The animals
were created by Pedro Linares after he had a peculiar dream: he was sick at the time, and he dreamt
about a peaceful landscape with odd creatures of all kinds, and after waking up, he was miraculously

All the beasts have wondrous powers used to help their masters, just like how the alebrijes used their
magic to heal Linares. In folk art, alebrijes have become very common, usually being sculpted as
vibrant, exotic creatures; the film incorporates this into all the animal s designs, using vibrant oranges,
purples, and greens to represent the art. Every single alebrije in Mexican artistry is different, usually
representing the artist who created the beast.3 Even this is shown in Coco, as every single citizen of
the Land of the Dead has a different animal, sometimes being porcupines, wolves, and even a flying
tiger. The only thing different about Pixar s alebrijes are that they serve as spirit guides in the Land of
the Dead, which is not believed in Mexican culture. Skeletons shown in Coco also draw inspiration
from Mexico s rich culture, mainly from the Day of the Dead. One thing helping with their design is

Dick Van Rouge Show Research Paper
Working Title The Dick Van Dyke Show is a family classic that any generation can enjoy. The show is
full of adventures and humor. The show also has a good story plot to keep anybody wanting more. The
Dick Van Dyke Show was an influential show because of the origins of the show, the exposition of
trends and fads in the show, and the effects the show made on the world. The creator of The Dick Van
Dyke Show, Carl Reiner, made the show very similar to his own life (David Krell). Carl Reiner added
the number 1 to his former address: 48 Bonnie Meadow in New Rochelle, to be Rob Petrie s (Dick
Van Dyke) address in the show (Krell). Like Carl Reiner, Rob Petrie drove to Manhattan everyday for
his job. (Krell). The show was like an everyday person s life, so it made it more relatable. Another
inspirations for The Dick Van Dyke Show were some shows from the nineteen fifties, Your Show of
Shows, and Caesar s Hour (Krell). The Dick Van Dyke Show was on the air for five years, from 1961

Diesel Is the Better Choice for a Greener Earth and Poor man s Wallet than Petrol On the planet Earth,
there are over 5,000,000 cars running on the streets everyday, taking people from destination to
destination. Of these cars, there are ones that run on petroleum, diesel, ethanol, electricity, and steam.
In North America, there is a majority of petroleum or gasoline fueled cars, while Europe has a mixture
of both petroleum cars and diesel cars; petroleum and diesel cars each have their advantages and
disadvantages. At the moment, there are more petroleum cars than diesel cars in North
America. With the technology today, the inherently dirty (Lloyd) diesel powered automobiles are ...

Diesel fuel has a higher energy density than petroleum therefore it provides more energy per volume.
By getting more energy with the same volume ultimately provides a greater appeal to general
consumers as fuel is sold by volume, not weight. Moreover the greater energy per volume allows for
better fuel economy. This relates to another subject which is highlighted in the eyes of general
consumers, the performance and efficiency of the two types of engines. There are conservative
drivers, and then there are drivers who are in constant need for speed. Sadly for all the racer blooded
drivers, diesel cars may not be what they want, due to pre mixing of fuel and air the petrol engine
operates at higher speed than diesel, but also limits the overall efficiency. Thus most performance cars
and sport cars are generally made with petrol engines to accommodate the high speed. In addition,
mechanically, diesel engines are heavier than petrol engines due to how the diesel engines are
constructed. Diesel engines needs to be at a larger displacement than petrol engines and withstand the
higher combustion pressures needed for ignition. Yet, with the heavier build it also allow car
enthusiasts to acquire a tremendous amount of power and efficiency with the aid of a turbocharger.

Internet Software Piracy
Software is the programming language and the operative system that runs a computer and allows the
user to execute actions such as send and receive information through pictures, music, videos, text
messages, GPS coordinates, etc. Most of the software today require access to Internet before you can
download them to your computer. Internet has changed humankind in several ways, including the way
people illegally share media property to each other. In the past the unauthorized copyright of any
computer program or software was possible only through the physical exchange of disks or other hard
media either by mail or on the street. Today, based on a report issued by the Software Alliance (BSA)
in October 2009, Internet Software Piracy occurs when the Internet: is used to:
Access to sites to download copies of illegal software;
Promote and commercialize pirated software that is forwarded hrough the mail and email; or
Offer and transmit breaking codes and other tools to by pass anti copying security features.
This illegal activity is untraceable many times because the buyers of the illegal software are instructed

Disadvantages Of Food Additives
Food additives are chemicals that are added to foods to keep them fresh or to enhance their color,
flavor, or texture. They might include food colorings, flavor enhancers, or a range of preservatives.
Most of the time, food additives are listed on the product label (along with other ingredients), spelt out
in full or with a code. Some common food additives may include; artificial sweeteners, high fructose
corn syrup, monosodium glutamate (MSG), trans fat, common food dyes, and many more. It all
depends on what type of additive and your body weight/height to determine the limit of these
additives you should have on a daily basis. Artificial sweeteners are a sugar substitute that provides a
sweet taste like sugar, but contains less food energy, and are usually genetically modified. Effects of
artificial sweeteners can include messing with your hormones, making you overheat, increase the risk
of diabetes, and they pollute your water. They can also cause weight gain, metabolic syndrome, and
cardiovascular disease. High fructose corn syrup is a sweetener made from corn starch, it has been
processed by glucose isomerase to convert some of its glucose into fructose. Being that high fructose
corn syrup is not natural, it is not healthy at all. It also has many dangerous effects if you consume to
much. Some of these effects include; weight gain, cancer, fatty liver and liver stress, increased

The Three Joys and One Misfortune
The Three Joys and One Misfortune Paresse Pereza was a lazy woman who never worked. In her
childhood and adolescence, she did not finish her homework or chores and did not attend school; even
after becoming an adult, she stayed in her house, completely depending on her parents for everything.
Her appearance, however, was very charming. She had beautiful golden hair that landed softly on her
back and bluish emerald eyes that glowed when reflected on sunlight. She always wore a black one
piece as if attending a funeral, and anyone who had seen her would say that they had a good first
impression of her.
After Paresse s parents whom she was wholly relying on died, the young woman became homeless
and impoverished, since she did not have any inheritance from her parents. Although she was
struggling in poverty, Paresse remained idle and did not even think about getting a job or a house. One
day, Paresse was wandering around her neighborhood, hoping to find some food to eat. Her charming
appearance had disappeared: her smooth golden hair became rough and dirty, and her beautiful
emerald eyes seemed to turn into a dull khaki color, due to her stained face. Her black one piece had
turned into a chunk of ragged fabric, and she had blisters on her feet since she wore no shoes.
As she walked aimlessly, she inadvertently arrived at a gargantuan forest called The Dark Forest.
There was a rumor about a prophet who lived inside the forest and made anyone s wish come true.

Ebola Virus Outbreak Of West Africa
Imagine being isolated from your friends and family, suffering from an illness that feels as though
something is burning through your body, while watching people around you dying of the same illness
and wondering when it will be your turn to proverbially kick the bucket . For many survivors of the
Ebola disease, this situation would be far too familiar. In March 2014, the Ebola virus outbreak began
in West Africa, mainly in Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Guinea. According to a recent figure from the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there have been a total of 28616 Ebola cases and
11310 deaths from Ebola in these three countries (2014). There were many unpalatable symptoms of
the disease, such as fever, headache, joint and muscle pain, widespread bleeding, diarrhea and other

however, there are just as many negative results of the virus as there were symptoms. Many West
African survivors have to deal with their new negative image, negative lasting health effects, or a
decrease in financial stability due to their inability to work or find work after they recover. Now that
the West African Ebola epidemic is over, (Liberia) there remains the task of assimilating the survivors
back into their societies. Moreover, the best solution to counteract the effects of the Ebola virus on
survivors is to expand upon the Ebola survivor support organizations already in place.

Reflection On The Unexamined Life Is Not Worth Living
Through the examples of Oedipus and Socrates, the saying the unexamined life is not worth living
proves true in three ways: first, to live a life full of discovery is a direct calling from God; second, an
examined life leads to humbleness; and lastly, a life spent in investigation will constantly be in pursuit
of truth. A vital motive for pursuing an examined lifestyle is if a command to do so comes from the
higher power one believes in. From a Christian perspective God rules as the higher power; however,
from Socrates outlook the Greek gods dominated as the higher power. From a Christian standpoint it is
clearly a command from God to live an examined life. Psalm 111:2 states Great are the works of the
Lord, studied by all who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just as Socrates promptly gratified the wish of his god, humanity should be striving to fulfill the
wishes of our omnipotent Creator. In both the Apology and Oedipus a key comparable quality is the
humility shown by both Socrates and Oedipus. The humility they display originates from their
discovery of the depravity of humanity. In Socrates case, he first discerned the nature of man when he
began his quest of finding true wisdom. He found that the men he thought to be truly wise, appeared
wise to many people, and especially to himself, but he was not (Plato 26). Socrates stumbled on the
vice that fells much of humanity: pride. As Socrates continued to pursue his search for wisdom, time
and time again he was disappointed by those he formerly thought had the highest reputation because
they were nearly the most deficient (Plato 26). After unearthing this truth Socrates had two paths he
could journey down. The first would be one of pride in himself, for indeed he did discover that he had
more wisdom than most. The second path was one of humility in that he realized that just like
everyone else, he was fallible and his wisdom could err. He chose the second path, and by doing so he
became the wiser. For then he discovered the the oracle sent to him by Apollo was sent for him to
ascertain that This man among you, mortals, is wisest who, like Socrates, understands that his wisdom

Khrushchev s colleagues were antagonistic towards his suggestion. Most of these colleagues once

An Analysis Of The Bird Feeder Division At Mde Essay
An analysis of the Bird Feeder Division at MDE was requested due to the unanticipated budget
variances that have occurred. The following memo will provide a breakdown of the costs.
Drafts of Costs
It is important to first understand what the specific product and period costs are in order to accurately
compute the associated costs. It is known that bird feeders are being produced. In this case the product
costs are: cedar, plastic, and indirect materials, factory worker labor, depreciation, utilities, and
maintenance and repairs. For period costs they are as follows: shipping, sales commissions, office
rent, advertising, liability insurance, office depreciation, office salaries. Once this is known then the
variable cost per unit and contribution margin can be found.
The first calculation is to find the budgeted and actual sales price per unit which is done by a pre given
computation and divided by the known budgeted and actual units. For budgeted the sales price per unit
was $21.00, while the actual sales price per unit was $21.10. In order to find the variable cost per unit,
the variable costs must be broken down and the total and actual budgets utilized (Horngren, Datar,
Rajan, 2015, pp 68 73). The variable costs are cedar, plastic, and indirect materials, factory worker
labor, shipping, and sales commissions. In this case shipping and sales commissions are pre given so
the calculation must simply match. In order to find the sales price per unit, the pre given unit

Working With A Debate Lawyer Essay
A probate lawyer is one of the best tools to have at your disposal if you have been chosen to be the
executor of an individual s will or if you are the beneficiary of someone s estate, mostly because the
probate lawyer can ensure that everything is done correctly when it comes to distributing all of the
assets. Listed below are two of the many reasons to work with a probate lawyer. They Can Ensure
That All Required Debts Are Paid Correctly The most important task that many probate lawyers can
help you with is ensuring that all the required debts are paid correctly by the estate. For example, the
probate lawyer can look at the various types of debts that were left behind by the estate and ensure that
not only are the required debts paid but that they will be paid in the right order. This is important
because there can be a number of fines and penalties that can be assessed if you paid the wrong debt
before someone who held a higher priority debt or if you begin paying other debts before paying the
estate taxes. However, determining who has priority over who when it comes to paying these debts
can be extremely tricky as they can vary quite a bit depending on your area, so it is always best to
consult with a probate lawyer to see what the laws in your particular area dictate. They Can Help ...

The Factors That Shape An Individual s Self Concept Essay
lf concept refers to the mental image or idea that an individual holds regarding themselves. An
individuals self concept continually develops in each of the life stages and is seen to be closely related
to the social as well as the emotional development. As such, a person views themselves differently
depending on the environment in which they are.
Self concept in an individual takes various steps to being formed. The most important step is the initial
one which happens while one is still a child. Here, an individual learns how to differentiate their own
body and the rest of the world. At this stage, a child gets to learn that there are some things which are
always there whereas others do come and then go away. The various factors that shape an individuals
self concept therefore are:
FAMILY
The family is an important social unit that plays a great role in developing an individual s self concept.
The first kind of relationships that one develops is within the family context. Attachments with parents
and close family members are built at this level and as a child, one acquires a sense of security and
feelings of love. The bonds created at the family level are key in the development of positive self
concept. To the parents, positive labeling for example continually telling a child that he is creative or
bright is a factor that could work in building their self concept while constantly labeling a child as
being stupid has a high likelihood of damaging the child s

Willy Loman as Coward in Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman
Willy Loman as Coward in Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman
Everybody feels the penetrating presence of fear throughout life. However, people s reactions to this
fear separate the brave souls from the cowards. Mark Twain once said, Courage is resistance to fear;
mastery of fear, not absence of fear (Twain 6). In Arthur Miller s play Death of a Salesman, Willy
Loman fears rejection by his son, Biff, and the business world. His fears master him, creating in him a
fantasy world of life as it was eighteen years ago. Willy s avoidance of reality and his suicide show his
cowardice. However, the emphasis he puts on financial success prevents him from realizing the
consequences that his suicide would create.

Willy believes that his family will appreciate the twenty thousand dollars insurance money they will

thinks his funeral will prove his greatness to Biff. In a daydream, Willy tells his brother, Ben, That
funeral will be massive! . . . He ll see what I am, Ben! He s in for a shock, that boy! (Miller 1275).
Willy disregards the fact that establishing a relationship with Biff will affect him more than money.
His cowardice causes him to believe that suicide is the only way to gain his son s respect.
Throughout the play, Willy s ideas of happiness prevent him from realizing that his acts are cowardly.
To him, financial success embodies happiness. His comparisons of himself to others show his
idealizations. Mainly, he idolizes Ben, who walked into Africa at age seventeen and walked out four
years later as a wealthy man. Willy also compares himself to Dave Singleman, a salesman he met on
the road early in his career. Dave prospered as a salesman even at age eighty four. Willy asks his boss,
Howard, What could be more satisfying than to be able to go, at the age of eighty four, into twenty or
thirty different cities, and pick up a phone, and be remembered and loved and helped by so many
different people? (Miller 1251). Due to his belief that money creates happiness, Willy feels that money

The Criminal Justice System Across The Country Essay
The criminal justice system across the country is designed to punish and strive to rehabilitate those
who have committed offenses against the law. Compared to some of the harshest regimes in the world,
the United States has a harsh history of mass incarceration. American prisons maintain nearly 25
percent of the world s prison population. Of the nearly 2.3 million incarcerated, 1 million are African
Americans (NAACP). The poverty stricken in America, especially those who are persons of color,
face a greater risk of incarcerated for minor offenses than their white counterparts. People charged and
or convicted of crimes are overwhelmingly poor. The Prison Policy Initiative finds that incarcerated
people have a median annual income of $19,185 prior to their incarceration which is 41% less than
that of non incarcerated individuals of a similar age ( Prisons of Poverty ). Both race and socio
economic status plays a critical role in the inequality that takes place in the criminal justice systems.
Over the last half century, the total number of those imprisoned has spiked dramatically as crime rates
have sharply dropped since the early 1990 s. Experts offer varied explanations for the troubling
growth of the American prison industrial complex, including the War on Drugs, harsh mandatory
minimum sentences and a system largely incapable of handling suspects with mental health issues
(Lee). Across the United States, the cost of the justice system is paid increasingly by the

Kurt Cobain Documentary Essay
Is It Possible To Accurately Represent Reality In Film?
...It matters very little what the facts are; what matters is what people believe. And when it comes to
Cobain, most of what they believe is fabricated nonsense.
Buzz Osborne, Melvins
Documentaries are often assumed to be credible and filled with factual information; they do, after all,
document reality. This is not always the case though. There are many factors that determine the
reliability of documentaries: the editing, the director s agenda, the film s style, confirmation bias, and
choice of interviewees, among other things. Documentaries are a representative medium, after all, and
although they are able to give audiences insight into people and events that they were not able to
experience first hand, there is much ambiguity surrounding the truthfulness of non fiction film. While
it may be possible to inform and persuade people through film, it will never be able to accurately
represent reality. By comparing two documentaries about Nirvana s Kurt Cobain, it will become
apparent that there is still a blurred line between what is fiction and what is not.

Poet of the Piano due to his nuance, his expressive depth and his ability to conjure up the melody of

Dysart s Character and Dream
In Peter Shaffer s play, Equus, one of the main characters is a psychiatrist named Martin Dysart who
specializes with adolescents. The play begins with a seventeen year old boy named Alan Strang and a
horse named Nugget. Alan is showing great affection towards the horse. Suddenly, a man in his forties
is shown holding a cigarette. This man is Martin Dysart, the first character to speak in the play. He
begins with a monologue describing Alan and the horse. Rather than focusing on the young boy,
Dysart is examining the horse and its purpose. Using his psychiatric brain, Dysart is trying to figure

In the dream, Dysart is the chief priest wearing a gold mask. He cuts children open which makes him
feel nauseous but he wants to stay hidden under the mask. In the end, the mask slips off his face and
his assistants discover that it was him. This is when he wakes up from the dream. The monologue
mentions Homeric Greece (Shaffer 14) which is extremely symbolic to the play. Equus uses many
similar techniques that were used in Ancient Greece plays such as the use of a chorus, and the setting
of the play. Homeric Greece is the mythical land created by Homer, a famous poet, where lots of
sacrifices were made for the gods. In the poem, he is cutting children and sacrificing them thus giving
them to the gods. In the dream, Dysart is wearing a Mask of Agamemnon (14). This is a gold death
mask , that was initially thought to belong to Agamemnon, a warrior written by Homer (Ancient
Greece). Dysart is also aware of the location of where this sacrifice is happening. He believes that he
is in Argos because of the red soil (14). This is a place in classical myths where the warrior
Agamemnon went to sacrifice his daughter (Sikyon). Dysart is sacrificing children similarly to
Agamemnon sacrificing his daughter. After cutting open each child, Dysart parts the flaps, severs the
inner tubes, yanks them out and throws them how and steaming on to the floor. (14) while the other
assistance study the pattern they make, as if they were reading hieroglyphics (Shaffer 15).
Hieroglyphics was the alphabet of Ancient Egypt; in this dream, the insides of the children are thrown
on the floor and observed very similarly to hieroglyphics. Dysart s assistants look for the patterns and
symbols, which is a portrayal of Dysart s psychiatric work. The main aspect of this dream is the mask.

Multiple Sclerosis And The Central Nervous System
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a degenerative and potentially debilitating disorder that affects the spinal
cord and brain, collectively known as the central nervous system. Multiple sclerosis evolves gradually
throughout time and is considered to be auto immune, which means the immune system mistakenly
attacks healthy cells and tissues that are supposed to be within the body. According to Medscape,
symptoms consist of, but are not limited to, sexual problems, ataxia (the inability to control certain
muscle movements as defined by Tortora and Derrickson), fatigue, and optic neuritis. Multiple
sclerosis is characterized into four different types: relapsing remitting MS, secondary progressive MS,
primary progressive MS, and progressive relapsing MS. There is currently no cure for multiple
sclerosis, but there are many forms of treatments to help suppress the symptoms and hinder the
progression. The Patient Education Institute lists of treatments include prescription medication and
healthy lifestyle habits, such as exercising. Steroids are also administered to delay the severity of the
attacks. The aforementioned details about the treatments, types, and symptoms of multiple sclerosis
are merely a superficial analysis. To fully understand this disease, a more in depth and detailed focus
of its impact within the body is needed. As previously stated, multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune
disease that affects the brain and nerve cells known as neurons and neuroglia. Neurons transmit

Outdated Themes Into The Mosaic Of The Romantic Period
Castles, Lords, and merry singing, how does Mary Robinson fit these seeming outdated themes into
the mosaic of the Romantic Period? The Poor Singing Dame is about an impoverished old woman
who lives a cheerful existence through singing despite the fact that many would consider her
circumstances miserable. A Lord of the nearby castle becomes overwhelmed with jealousy of the
woman s happiness and locks her in prison where she dies. He is haunted by his actions and soon dies
subsequently. Mary Robinson is an interesting addition to the list of prominent Romantic Period
writers. The structure of The Poor Singing Dame is interesting to compare to the structures that her
contemporaries use, yet she includes many of the popular themes of the time as well. The fantastic
rumors of Lord Byron s life cannot match the sensational reality of Mary Robinson s. Along with her
successful writing, she was an actress, fashion icon, and mistress of the Prince of Wales. Compared to

The shape of the stanzas and the rhyming pattern may vaguely resemble the famous cantos of Lord
Byron. Those works of literature were modeled after classic Italian pieces. Although The Poor Singing
Dame honors the classics, critics have said Mary Robinson s writing possesses the new realism that
will impel English poetry into the nineteenth century (Norton 78). In The Poor Singing Dame, Mary
Robinson s voice seems negated from the narrative and in that sense bears resemblance John Keats.
However the singing old woman s happiness being ruined by a tyrannical Lord may be Mary
Robinson expressing some of her feelings after being deserted by the Prince of Wales. It is harder to
make a connection between John Keats life and some of his work, Lamia for example. Mary Robinson
s voice does not play an outstanding role in The Poor Singing Dame, because her themes take center

Causes Of The Second Triumvirate
The Second Triumvirate existed from 43 B.C. to 33 B.C. The Second Triumvirate lasted for only ten
years. The Second Triumvirate years were filled with a variety of battles between the three men. Rome
will fall with the new Triumvirate because the people have been deceived and have faced many
troubles, the Triumvirate has tasted power and are greedy for more, and the three men in the
Triumvirate mistrust and dislike each other. The Triumvirate stealing from the public s fortune shows
their lack of morals and concern for Rome. Before the war against the conspirators started, Mark
Antony commanded Lepidus to fetch the will (4.1.11) in order to see how they would cut some charge
in legacies (4.1.12). Some may say Antony took the money to help protect the people of Rome.
However, Mark Antony used the poor, naive, confused public to ensure he got revenge on Brutus and
the conspirators. Antony sparked the fire to start this war in order to get revenge and will use the
people s money to get revenge, not to protect. In addition, the Triumvirate has no respect for human
life. Their lack of sympathy towards the deaths of soldiers and civilians showed their inconsideration
for them. They simply said that they shall not live (4.1.9) and that they are damn[ed] (4.1.9). Others
may say that they didn t hold significant consideration towards their death because it is normal for
people to die in a war. Yet, the war was initiated by Mark Antony and his thirst for revenge. He is the

Content And Nature Of Value Creation
Christian Grönroos and Annika Ravald (2010) analyzed the scope, content and nature of value co
creation in a service logic based view of value creation, considering the customer perspective in a
supplier customer relationship. They published their findings in the Journal of Service Management
vol. 22 no. 1, 2011, pp 5 22. They emphasized to keep apart production and value creation, as
according to them they are different constructs. Production is the course of making the resources
consumers integrate in their consumption or usage procedures. Value creation is the process of
generating value in use out of such resources. They say that hence the value is not produced; resources
out of which value can be generated are produced. Due to the interactive nature of service activities,
where manufacturing and consumption are partly concurring processes, customers involve themselves
in the production process and become contributors in that process. The character of customers as co
producers of service activities was recognized already in the early days of service marketing research
(Eiglier and Langeard, 1976; Grönroos, 1978, 1982). As Gummesson (1998, p. 247) declares, a
service provider without consumers cannot produce anything .
No matter customers buy goods or service activities, they consume them as a service (Grönroos, 1978,
2008; Gummesson, 1995; Vargo and Lusch, 2004, 2008.) If we see from a consumption point of view,

Conscientiousness Research Paper
The purpose of this paper is to reflect upon the result of the personality quiz we have taken and to
reflect upon how our strongest personality trait is a strength. We are also to reflect on how we can
apply this personality trait to the important areas of our lives such as school, work, etc. So, to begin
my strongest personality trait at forty points is conscientiousness. Although agreeableness had thirty
eight points and openness had thirty seven points so these three are all pretty close in strength. But for
the purpose of this essay, I am going to reflect on conscientiousness and how this trait is a personal
strength for me. I am not surprised that conscientiousness is my strongest personality trait in the least
because it represents me perfectly. I am a very emotionally controlled person that doesn t let what is
going on in my external environment frazzle me. Instead, I think things through to find the best and

First, I am very organized in both my school and home life. I keep my dorm room clean and organized
so I don t end up not being able to find something when I need it. I am also very organized when it
comes to my school work, such as notetaking and doing the homework assignments when they are
assigned. This helps me stay on track and not fall behind. Second is how I am persistent in pursuing
my goals. My most important goal of which is to become a veterinarian. To get into vet school though
I have to not only do well in school and get all the prerequisites, I also have to have about six to eight
hundred hours working or shadowing a veterinarian. I know that is a lot of hours, so I made a plan that
I have already started and will span over the next three

Rhetorical Analysis Of Phoenix Wright s The Night
Objection! This signature catchphrase, yelled by protagonist Phoenix Wright, is well known in not
only Japan, where the Ace Attorney video game/ visual novel series is from, but also in America,
where the Ace Attorney series has a rather large cult following. This series follows Phoenix through
his journey as a defense attorney, as he protects the falsely accused and brings justice to criminals,
using evidence and logic, with a little bit of bluffing, rather than brute force. This much loved series,
with its fantastic writing that manages to combine ridiculousness and tragedy to create a humorous,
yet oftentimes touching stories, and some of the most complex and nuanced characters in video
gaming/visual novel history, has captured the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our first message of Ace Attorney s gospel is that of the American Monomyth. The American
Monomyth is a common story theme in our culture, wherein the world, and the heroes within the
world are at peace, until a problem occurs that throws the world of the heroes into chaos. At this point,
the heroes rise up and defeat the problem, before fading back into obscurity as the world is restored to
its natural order. This can be seen in the Ace Attorney series, as the games are broken up into
individual cases in each game. Each case starts with the peaceful world being thrown into chaos with a
crime or murder being pinned on an innocent person, at which point, Phoenix and his partner, Maya
Fey, rise up and become heroes fighting to defend the wrongly accused and to find the real culprit.
Once the defendant is cleared and the culprit is behind bars, the world returns to its natural order and
Phoenix and crew fade back into obscurity, until the next case occurs and the cycle repeats. This
following of the American Monomyth raises a very important question about Phoenix, the American
Monomyth is often used in superhero stories, which raises the question: Is Phoenix Wright a
superhero?
Is Phoenix Wright a superhero? This is a question that the games raise multiple times, Phoenix Wright
is a morally righteous person, whose goal is to protect the innocent and bring justice to the guilty. Like
Batman, he uses his resources, in his case his logic and skill as a lawyer, to bring

The Toy Soldier And War
The Toy Soldier and War Commemoration
War cannot simply be set aside or forgotten; war creates a sense of national mood that infiltrates
various aspects of society and culture and reaches entire populations, not solely adults. When looking
at the significance and history behind classic dolls, a large toy store transforms into a warehouse for
the preservation and education of war. This paper will examine the history of toy soldiers, discuss the
importance of war dolls on education, and access the dialogue surrounding the psychological effects
of war and play. In so doing, I hope to paint a broad understanding of the significance of dolls,
specifically toy soldiers, in terms of war commemoration and their impact on society.

These small figurines, standing at 2 ¼ inches tall, represent uniformed personnel and combatants and
convey a vast history of battle. They exemplify major battles and even provide other fighters like
Samurais. The extensive collections of stand alone characters and boxed sets, along with landscape
scenery, allow children and collectors to recreate entire battle scenes. Thus, not only do children play
with the figurines, they also learn intensive history about various wars through this interaction. The
manufacturing of toy soldiers continued to increase, and in the United States, lead and plastic soldiers
were so widely available, [that] many baby boomers grew up collecting both. Though they suffered a
minor setback due to growing anti war sentiment in America during the Vietnam War, many children
of the 1960s reminisced as adults about their collections, only to find out their parents sold their
figurines. This led to a resurgence in the popularity of toy soldiers. Furthermore, the cheap availability
of plastic allows for toy soldier production at increasingly exceptional rates. Additionally, the Internet
allows for further expansion of the toy soldier as websites allow for like minded collectors to come
together to discover information about toy

First Conceptualised By Keith Hart In 1973, The Notion
First conceptualised by Keith Hart in 1973, the notion of informality is broadly defined as explaining
activities which fall beyond the regulation of the state, often resulting from the absence of one or more
forms of state... regulation (Sinha and Kanbur, 2012:2). However, according to McFarlane and Waibel
(2012), informality itself is a nebulous term due to its wide reaching focus from poverty to
marginality, from livelihoods to inequality. They describe informality as more of a metaphor rather
than a concept due to the fluidity and uncertainty of the term, however, they do agree that informality
plays a crucial role not only in the global South, but beyond (McFarlane and Waibel, 2012:1). In many
instances, the state itself has been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The stagnation of the global Southern countries in Latin America, Eastern Europe and Africa occurred
in the 1970s and 80s when these countries found themselves trapped by levels of debt to international
public and commercial banks (Williams, 1994:214). Fearing another global depression, large banks
and organisations such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) embarked upon structural
adjustment programs (SAPs) in these heavily indebted countries with the aim of restructuring their
traditional economies seen in the global North as symptoms of backwardness (Moser, 1994). The
ability to qualify for monetary aid from the global North was conditional on the adoption of a range of
policies (Craig and Porter, 2003:60) set out by these organisations believed to be necessary for debt
sustainability; central to which was the theory of neoliberalism . The first main condition was the
devaluing of the local currency, intended to encourage exports and limit imports (Williams, 1994),
with the second policy agreement being the reduction in the size of the government bureaucracy. The
initial reason for the debt pile up in these countries was seen as being due to governmental
mismanagement, and therefore money was allocated for the restructuring of the state governments in
order to correct their inefficiency. As a result of the withdrawing

• 3. Medical Monitors for the Heart and Brain Arterial lines (A lines) are a monitoring device inserted into arterial vascular system that is used to assess blood pressure. A transducer in the device is used to translate the arterial pressure into electrical impulses (Kaur, 2006). It secures the most accurate and precise measurements on a continuous basis by obtaining intra arterial pressure. These factors, over the manual and non invasive blood pressure cuffs, makes the A line advantageous particularly in patients that are receiving vasodilator/vasoactive infusion therapies. The tubing leading the patient also has a specialized port for ready access to arterial blood samples. The waveform display is the interpreted reading from the transducer. The waveform reflects the accuracy and integrity of the actual blood pressure value. Impaired circulation integrity, external blood pressure devices, incorrect leveling/zeroing of the transducer, air bubbles in the tubing, and arterial stenosis can impair the arterial lines readings. Infusing intravenous fluids is contraindicated. Sterility must be maintained during application and dressing changes. It is preferable to use the patient s non dominant hand to decrease the chances of dislodgement, hemorrhage, and injury. The head of the patient s must be at or lower than 60 degrees and the level of the transducer must align with phlebostatic axis to ensure accurate readings (Iversen, 2011). Unit 4 Heat And Temperature Unit 4: Heat and Temperature Topic A: Illustrate and explain how human needs have led to technologies for obtaining and controlling thermal energy and to increased use of energy resources. Investigate and interpret examples of heat related technologies and energy used in the past (e.g. domestic and industrial purposes) Steam engines were the first engine type to see use in industrial purposes. A fire heats water which turns to steam and the steam then has the ability to move things. They were first invented by Thomas Newcomen in 1705, and James Watt (a Scottish inventor) made big improvements to steam engines in 1769. Steam engines powered all early cars, steamboats and factories. Trace linkages between human needs and development of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Describe the effect of heat on the motion of particles, and explain changes of state using the particle model of matter. There are four basic components for thermal energy (heat): 1. All matter is made up of tiny particles called atoms. These can only be seen with special microscopes. 2. The atoms are always moving they all have kinetic energy. 3. The particles have space between them. Different states of matter have different amounts of space. 4. Adding heat (energy) to matter makes the particles move more quickly. Since faster moving things have more kinetic energy, adding heat increases the energy of the particle. 5. Cooling it down decreases the amount of kinetic energy and slows the movement down. Distinguish between heat and temperature, and explain temperature using the concept of kinetic energy and the particle model of matter. • 5. The Reform Era Of The Twentieth Century In the history of the United States, working men and women have attempted to survive the social, political, economic, and social changes from the eighteenth through the twenty first centuries. In order to ensure their survival, these working people chose from a range possibilities to organize and strengthen within the restrictions and opportunities of political, structural, and cultural situations. This paper will prove that throughout the Antebellum period, the long nineteenth century, the reform era of the twentieth century and up through present day, the United States working people have been responsible for both their successes and failures in their organizing attempts, but during contrasting eras, other entities such as the government, employers, and the economy have been responsible for the successes and failures of the organization workers. In looking at the historiography of United States Labor History, it is clear that the methodology in explaining the workers attempts to organize shifts over time, much like who was responsible for the successes and failures of labor organization. Labor Historian John R. Commons was perhaps the pioneer of writing the history of labor and its unionization. Commons writes from the perspective of progressivism and has written that the wage earner, as a distinct class, has been gradually, even violently, separating himself from the farmer, the merchant and the employer and coming to feel that his standing and progress in society ... Additionally, as is the case with any radio station, all your broadcasts need to comply with the Broadcasting Act. Fundamentally this means your broadcasts must be in good taste. The advantages that a low power FM radio station have over a commercial station is that is is much less expensive to set up at the outset, your likelihood of finding a suitable frequency are much higher, and there are far fewer ongoing costs. When operating a low power FM station, you need to determine who your audience is. If you are broadcasting in an area where there are already a number of resident commercial stations, you may enjoy more success by broadcasting niche programming that appeals to an audience not currently served by the full power FM stations. Alternatively for those who are located in a more rural area or town, you then have the opportunity to set your station up as the local alternative to what is already available. Generally a local station competing against a station being beamed in by satellite from one of the main centres will attract a great deal of local community support. The narrator enforces a reproachful tone by using a simile to compare his possible life to that of a hermit s as he deplores, Like nature s patient, sleepless Eremite (Keats 4). A hermit symbolizes seclusion and boredom in one s life as human hermits are in radical circumstances, people who live in absolute solitude with no need for communication and are no longer dependant on anyone. Although Anne de Bourgh -whom Darcy is expected to wed- is not a literal hermit living completely secluded from companions, her painfully reserved and quiet nature boasts similarities. Even Mr. Collins, who crows over his particular fond acquaintanceship to the de Bourgh women, describes Anne as a unfortunately of a sickly constitution which has prevented her making that progress in many accomplishments (Austen 124). Interestingly, the weight of a hermit s shell secludes the being inside, but it also protects the organism which ironically parallels how Anne is protected by her illness. These diseases strain her health making her isolated; however, they give an excuse for her timid nature and unaccomplished life which render her mundane. It was carried out to physically destroy a military target; Iran s Natanz nuclear facility. The attack was aimed at industrial SCADA controllers and was a stand alone attack. This allowed the worm to be recognized as a device driver and to not be rejected by the Windows operating system. The early version of the worm functioned as a man in the middle attack. It sat between the engineering software and the Siemens controllers for the input and output valves feeding into each centrifuge. The worm would accept commands from the engineering software and give false responses to indicate that these commands were being processed by the controllers. In reality, the worm was regularly allowing the centrifuges to be over pressurized, which had the effect of causing the centrifuges to wear out and break more quickly. The later version of the software was much more crude. It would take over the centrifuges and refuse to acknowledge signals from the engineering software while an attack was active. The attack operated about once a month and worked by slowing down the centrifuges and then spinning them back up to past their normal full speed. This would cause damage as the centrifuges passed through what was known as a resonance speed, which would destabilize the rotor. Stuxnet managed to increase the rotor speeds at Iran s Natanz nuclear facility from a normal speed of 63,000 rpm to 84,600 rpm. The worms were carefully designed so that it would not be obvious to someone in the facility that their mechanical systems were being sabotaged. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Diesel fuel has a higher energy density than petroleum therefore it provides more energy per volume. By getting more energy with the same volume ultimately provides a greater appeal to general consumers as fuel is sold by volume, not weight. Moreover the greater energy per volume allows for better fuel economy. This relates to another subject which is highlighted in the eyes of general consumers, the performance and efficiency of the two types of engines. There are conservative drivers, and then there are drivers who are in constant need for speed. Sadly for all the racer blooded drivers, diesel cars may not be what they want, due to pre mixing of fuel and air the petrol engine operates at higher speed than diesel, but also limits the overall efficiency. Thus most performance cars and sport cars are generally made with petrol engines to accommodate the high speed. In addition, mechanically, diesel engines are heavier than petrol engines due to how the diesel engines are constructed. Diesel engines needs to be at a larger displacement than petrol engines and withstand the higher combustion pressures needed for ignition. In her childhood and adolescence, she did not finish her homework or chores and did not attend school; even after becoming an adult, she stayed in her house, completely depending on her parents for everything. Her appearance, however, was very charming. She had beautiful golden hair that landed softly on her back and bluish emerald eyes that glowed when reflected on sunlight. She always wore a black one piece as if attending a funeral, and anyone who had seen her would say that they had a good first impression of her. After Paresse s parents whom she was wholly relying on died, the young woman became homeless and impoverished, since she did not have any inheritance from her parents. Although she was struggling in poverty, Paresse remained idle and did not even think about getting a job or a house. One day, Paresse was wandering around her neighborhood, hoping to find some food to eat. Her charming appearance had disappeared: her smooth golden hair became rough and dirty, and her beautiful emerald eyes seemed to turn into a dull khaki color, due to her stained face. Her black one piece had turned into a chunk of ragged fabric, and she had blisters on her feet since she wore no shoes. As she walked aimlessly, she inadvertently arrived at a gargantuan forest called The Dark Forest. There was a rumor about a prophet who lived inside the forest and made anyone s wish come true. ... • 20. Ebola Virus Outbreak Of West Africa Imagine being isolated from your friends and family, suffering from an illness that feels as though something is burning through your body, while watching people around you dying of the same illness and wondering when it will be your turn to proverbially kick the bucket . For many survivors of the Ebola disease, this situation would be far too familiar. In March 2014, the Ebola virus outbreak began in West Africa, mainly in Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Guinea. According to a recent figure from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there have been a total of 28616 Ebola cases and 11310 deaths from Ebola in these three countries (2014). There were many unpalatable symptoms of the disease, such as fever, headache, joint and muscle pain, widespread bleeding, diarrhea and other physical symptoms leading to high mortality (Van Bortel). If one is lucky enough to survive this virus, however, there are just as many negative results of the virus as there were symptoms. Many West African survivors have to deal with their new negative image, negative lasting health effects, or a decrease in financial stability due to their inability to work or find work after they recover. Now that the West African Ebola epidemic is over, (Liberia) there remains the task of assimilating the survivors back into their societies. Moreover, the best solution to counteract the effects of the Ebola virus on survivors is to expand upon the Ebola survivor support organizations already in place. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Reflection On The Unexamined Life Is Not Worth Living Through the examples of Oedipus and Socrates, the saying the unexamined life is not worth living proves true in three ways: first, to live a life full of discovery is a direct calling from God; second, an examined life leads to humbleness; and lastly, a life spent in investigation will constantly be in pursuit of truth. A vital motive for pursuing an examined lifestyle is if a command to do so comes from the higher power one believes in. From a Christian perspective God rules as the higher power; however, from Socrates outlook the Greek gods dominated as the higher power. From a Christian standpoint it is clearly a command from God to live an examined life. Psalm 111:2 states Great are the works of the Lord, studied by all who ... In both the Apology and Oedipus a key comparable quality is the humility shown by both Socrates and Oedipus. The humility they display originates from their discovery of the depravity of humanity. In Socrates case, he first discerned the nature of man when he began his quest of finding true wisdom. He found that the men he thought to be truly wise, appeared wise to many people, and especially to himself, but he was not (Plato 26). Socrates stumbled on the vice that fells much of humanity: pride. As Socrates continued to pursue his search for wisdom, time and time again he was disappointed by those he formerly thought had the highest reputation because they were nearly the most deficient (Plato 26). After unearthing this truth Socrates had two paths he could journey down. The first would be one of pride in himself, for indeed he did discover that he had more wisdom than most. The second path was one of humility in that he realized that just like everyone else, he was fallible and his wisdom could err. He chose the second path, and by doing so he became the wiser. For then he discovered the the oracle sent to him by Apollo was sent for him to ascertain that This man among you, mortals, is wisest who, like Socrates, understands that his wisdom is ... The following memo will provide a breakdown of the costs. Drafts of Costs It is important to first understand what the specific product and period costs are in order to accurately compute the associated costs. It is known that bird feeders are being produced. In this case the product costs are: cedar, plastic, and indirect materials, factory worker labor, depreciation, utilities, and maintenance and repairs. For period costs they are as follows: shipping, sales commissions, office rent, advertising, liability insurance, office depreciation, office salaries. Once this is known then the variable cost per unit and contribution margin can be found. The first calculation is to find the budgeted and actual sales price per unit which is done by a pre given computation and divided by the known budgeted and actual units. For budgeted the sales price per unit was $21.00, while the actual sales price per unit was $21.10. In order to find the variable cost per unit, the variable costs must be broken down and the total and actual budgets utilized (Horngren, Datar, Rajan, 2015, pp 68 73). Compared to some of the harshest regimes in the world, the United States has a harsh history of mass incarceration. American prisons maintain nearly 25 percent of the world s prison population. Of the nearly 2.3 million incarcerated, 1 million are African Americans (NAACP). The poverty stricken in America, especially those who are persons of color, face a greater risk of incarcerated for minor offenses than their white counterparts. People charged and or convicted of crimes are overwhelmingly poor. The Prison Policy Initiative finds that incarcerated people have a median annual income of $19,185 prior to their incarceration which is 41% less than that of non incarcerated individuals of a similar age ( Prisons of Poverty ). Both race and socio economic status plays a critical role in the inequality that takes place in the criminal justice systems. Over the last half century, the total number of those imprisoned has spiked dramatically as crime rates have sharply dropped since the early 1990 s. Documentaries are a representative medium, after all, and although they are able to give audiences insight into people and events that they were not able to experience first hand, there is much ambiguity surrounding the truthfulness of non fiction film. Rome will fall with the new Triumvirate because the people have been deceived and have faced many troubles, the Triumvirate has tasted power and are greedy for more, and the three men in the Triumvirate mistrust and dislike each other. The Triumvirate stealing from the public s fortune shows their lack of morals and concern for Rome. Before the war against the conspirators started, Mark Antony commanded Lepidus to fetch the will (4.1.11) in order to see how they would cut some charge in legacies (4.1.12). Some may say Antony took the money to help protect the people of Rome. However, Mark Antony used the poor, naive, confused public to ensure he got revenge on Brutus and the conspirators. Antony sparked the fire to start this war in order to get revenge and will use the people s money to get revenge, not to protect. In addition, the Triumvirate has no respect for human life. Their lack of sympathy towards the deaths of soldiers and civilians showed their inconsideration for them. They simply said that they shall not live (4.1.9) and that they are damn[ed] (4.1.9). Content And Nature Of Value Creation Christian Grönroos and Annika Ravald (2010) analyzed the scope, content and nature of value co creation in a service logic based view of value creation, considering the customer perspective in a supplier customer relationship. They published their findings in the Journal of Service Management vol. 22 no. 1, 2011, pp 5 22. They emphasized to keep apart production and value creation, as according to them they are different constructs. Production is the course of making the resources consumers integrate in their consumption or usage procedures. Value creation is the process of generating value in use out of such resources. They say that hence the value is not produced; resources out of which value can be generated are produced. Due to the interactive nature of service activities, where manufacturing and consumption are partly concurring processes, customers involve themselves in the production process and become contributors in that process. The character of customers as co producers of service activities was recognized already in the early days of service marketing research (Eiglier and Langeard, 1976; Grönroos, 1978, 1982). As Gummesson (1998, p. 247) declares, a service provider without consumers cannot produce anything . No matter customers buy goods or service activities, they consume them as a service (Grönroos, 1978, 2008; Gummesson, 1995; Vargo and Lusch, 2004, 2008.) I am a very emotionally controlled person that doesn t let what is going on in my external environment frazzle me. Instead, I think things through to find the best and most efficient solution to the problem. I am very organized and dependable. I know that is a lot of hours, so I made a plan that I have already started and will span over the next three ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Rhetorical Analysis Of Phoenix Wright s The Night Objection! This signature catchphrase, yelled by protagonist Phoenix Wright, is well known in not only Japan, where the Ace Attorney video game/ visual novel series is from, but also in America, where the Ace Attorney series has a rather large cult following. This series follows Phoenix through his journey as a defense attorney, as he protects the falsely accused and brings justice to criminals, using evidence and logic, with a little bit of bluffing, rather than brute force. This much loved series, with its fantastic writing that manages to combine ridiculousness and tragedy to create a humorous, yet oftentimes touching stories, and some of the most complex and nuanced characters in video gaming/visual novel history, has captured the ... The American Monomyth is a common story theme in our culture, wherein the world, and the heroes within the world are at peace, until a problem occurs that throws the world of the heroes into chaos. At this point, the heroes rise up and defeat the problem, before fading back into obscurity as the world is restored to its natural order. This can be seen in the Ace Attorney series, as the games are broken up into individual cases in each game. Each case starts with the peaceful world being thrown into chaos with a crime or murder being pinned on an innocent person, at which point, Phoenix and his partner, Maya Fey, rise up and become heroes fighting to defend the wrongly accused and to find the real culprit. Once the defendant is cleared and the culprit is behind bars, the world returns to its natural order and Phoenix and crew fade back into obscurity, until the next case occurs and the cycle repeats. This following of the American Monomyth raises a very important question about Phoenix, the American Monomyth is often used in superhero stories, which raises the question: Is Phoenix Wright a superhero? Is Phoenix Wright a superhero? This is a question that the games raise multiple times, Phoenix Wright is a morally righteous person, whose goal is to protect the innocent and bring justice to the guilty. Like Batman, he uses his resources, in his case his logic and skill as a lawyer, to bring ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. The Toy Soldier And War The Toy Soldier and War Commemoration War cannot simply be set aside or forgotten; war creates a sense of national mood that infiltrates various aspects of society and culture and reaches entire populations, not solely adults. When looking at the significance and history behind classic dolls, a large toy store transforms into a warehouse for the preservation and education of war. This paper will examine the history of toy soldiers, discuss the importance of war dolls on education, and access the dialogue surrounding the psychological effects of war and play. In so doing, I hope to paint a broad understanding of the significance of dolls, specifically toy soldiers, in terms of war commemoration and their impact on society. The childhood ... They exemplify major battles and even provide other fighters like Samurais. The extensive collections of stand alone characters and boxed sets, along with landscape scenery, allow children and collectors to recreate entire battle scenes. Thus, not only do children play with the figurines, they also learn intensive history about various wars through this interaction. The manufacturing of toy soldiers continued to increase, and in the United States, lead and plastic soldiers were so widely available, [that] many baby boomers grew up collecting both. Though they suffered a minor setback due to growing anti war sentiment in America during the Vietnam War, many children of the 1960s reminisced as adults about their collections, only to find out their parents sold their figurines. This led to a resurgence in the popularity of toy soldiers. Furthermore, the cheap availability of plastic allows for toy soldier production at increasingly exceptional rates. Additionally, the Internet allows for further expansion of the toy soldier as websites allow for like minded collectors to come together to discover information about toy ... First Conceptualised By Keith Hart In 1973, The Notion First conceptualised by Keith Hart in 1973, the notion of informality is broadly defined as explaining activities which fall beyond the regulation of the state, often resulting from the absence of one or more forms of state... regulation (Sinha and Kanbur, 2012:2). However, according to McFarlane and Waibel (2012), informality itself is a nebulous term due to its wide reaching focus from poverty to marginality, from livelihoods to inequality. They describe informality as more of a metaphor rather than a concept due to the fluidity and uncertainty of the term, however, they do agree that informality plays a crucial role not only in the global South, but beyond (McFarlane and Waibel, 2012:1). In many instances, the state itself has been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The stagnation of the global Southern countries in Latin America, Eastern Europe and Africa occurred in the 1970s and 80s when these countries found themselves trapped by levels of debt to international public and commercial banks (Williams, 1994:214). Fearing another global depression, large banks and organisations such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) embarked upon structural adjustment programs (SAPs) in these heavily indebted countries with the aim of restructuring their traditional economies seen in the global North as symptoms of backwardness (Moser, 1994). The ability to qualify for monetary aid from the global North was conditional on the adoption of a range of policies (Craig and Porter, 2003:60) set out by these organisations believed to be necessary for debt sustainability; central to which was the theory of neoliberalism . The first main condition was the devaluing of the local currency, intended to encourage exports and limit imports (Williams, 1994), with the second policy agreement being the reduction in the size of the government bureaucracy. The initial reason for the debt pile up in these countries was seen as being due to governmental mismanagement, and therefore money was allocated for the restructuring of the state governments in order to correct their inefficiency. As a result of the withdrawing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
