Nazi Germany, The Islamic State Of Iraq And Syria Essay
Imagine a country that is run by insane government officials with a military consisting of blood crazed
and psychopathic soldiers who conquer land by force and murders anyone that does not agree with
their values or beliefs. You might think that this thought could be the center of a suspenseful film, but
sadly this is a case that takes place right now in reality. One could compare these actions to Nazi
Germany, Fascist Italy, or the Soviet Union but those countries are long gone and are not committing
such crimes today. Right now, at this moment, today s Nazi Germany is the Islamic State of Iraq and
Syria. The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, more commonly known as ISIS , is the country that is
committing war crimes, violating international law, and promotes rape and sexual slavery today at this
very moment. Therefore, I believe it is the United States duty and moral obligation to launch a full
scale military ground force to fight and eliminate all forces of the Islamic State. People in the United
States may wonder how the problems of genocide, rape, and sexual slavery in the Middle East
committed by the Islamic State affect them. The fact that citizens of the United States wonder how the
problems in the Middle East pertaining to the Islamic State affect them is a valid thought to ponder
about being that most of us have always lived in a safe, secure, and civilized society and environment
that the thought of any of problems such as genocide and sexual slavery happening

Case Study #1: Non tariff Barriers to International Trade 1. In the Xia case, if the WTO were to rule in
favor of Brazil, which of the WTO trade agreements would contain the justification and why? Answer:
Brazil banned imports of Xia goods from China because there was allegations and unconfirmed
speculation pertaining to China s use of hazardous materials (for example, lead paint and potentially
carcinogenic plastic and rubbers) to manufacture toys cheaply, which sparked consumer panic around
the globe. The imports of Xia goods were banned until the test was performed to guarantee that these
goods do not possess any health risk. The Chinese government completely refuted this claim and
fearing that other country might follow the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Answer: The Chinese government would reduce or eliminate the quotas and other measures which
until now have protected domestic production of soybeans from cheaper imports. China s
consumption of soybeans ballooned by more than 160% between 2000 and 2011 when import barriers
were removed, but the area planted with soybeans declined by 20% during those same years. Chinese
farmers were simply unable to compete with imported soybeans that were RMB 300 to 600 (US$45
90) cheaper per ton than domestic beans. Imported soybeans now account for three quarters of the
soybeans processed into cooking oil and feed in China, the products of soybean crushing. If China is
able to prove that domestic soybean producers are not able to survive because of low cost imports
from Brazil, the WTO ruling would be in favor of China and such measures would be upheld.
However, if such measures were used as retaliation to Brazilian ban on Chinese toys, the WTO ruling
would be in favor of Brazil and China would not be able to restrict import of Soybean from Brazil.

Capacit Capacity
The process analytics simulation that we started in class was an interesting and practical
demonstration and actual application of process flow analysis. The first problem which we performed
in small groups within the class, was laid out very simply as a set of sequential processes, each with
individual characteristics, that are ordered in pre determined process that when complete, produces
one production unit. The initial concepts demonstrated were those of cycle time, throughput, capacity,
utilization and bottleneck. Cycle time reflects the average time it takes for units to complete the
process once the process gets running. (Leonard, 2007, p. 10). Generally the cycle time will be
determined by the longest process in a sequential flow. Throughput is the amount of time it takes to
complete the first unit. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Leonard, 2007, p. 11) Utilization is the mathematical calculation of process throughput over process
capacity with the average of the individual process utilization rates being the overall utilization rate.
(Leonard, 2007, p. 18) . The utilization rate was the hardest for the group to grasp until they
effectively understood that the bottleneck, the process that limits the overall capacity of the system
being measured (Leonard, 2007, p. 18), is always the process that is running at 100% utilization, and
all other processes utilization is calculated on the basis of this bottleneck process. The remainder of
problem 1 in the simulation was emphasizing the importance identifying the bottleneck and
calculating the effects of changing the process when you change the bottleneck and when you change
other factors. If you affect the bottleneck than you effect process. If the bottleneck remains unchanged
than the overall efficiency of the process does not

Video Games Should Be Legal
Violent video games have been a source of controversy since 1976. Though there are many issues
surrounding these games, there is one that is quite fickle: whether or not the descriptions for violent
video games should be more thorough and if parents or adults should be able to purchase violent video
games for minors. There should be more descriptive ratings and adults should not be allowed to buy
video games for minors, because the ratings and descriptions now are not very thorough, and minors
can still get access even though regulations have been put in place.
Violence and other inappropriate material has been a pinnacle of popular video games over time. For
most a video game is just that, a game, but for others and those in the media ... Show more content on

One important instance in video game history was the formation of the ESRB. That is the
Entertainment Software Rating Board and they are responsible for giving video games ratings based
on what is in them. This was formed due to Congressional hearing in 1993 where the main focus was
two controversial video games. It was formed to deflect potential video game regulation by the
government as its own entity (NCAC). This allowed for the very controversial game Mortal Kombat
to stay in stores. This was a fighting game that was the first to feature real lifelike violence. It not only
featured blood and gore, but also more realistic looking characters. The premise of the game was, the
player would pick a character and fight other characters to the death, whichever character won gained
the ability to perform a finishing move that was very brutal and involved some form of mutilation to
the other character. This was the main aspect that had people in uproar. Though due to the formation
of the ESRB Mortal Kombat remained in stores. After the formation of the ESRB, there were still
instances of uproar over video game violence. In 1997 Jack Thompson files the first of many lawsuits
that claims violent video games are responsible for violence in teens (NCAC). This suit was brought
about due to the shooting that happened at Heath High School that year. Though the biggest action

Importance Of Physical Activity And Physical Fitness And...
Evidence from multiple studies suggests that increasing physical activity and physical fitness may
improve academic performance. Evidence also states that dedicated time to recess in a school day,
physical education class, and physical activity in the classroom may facilitate academic performance.
Research shows that cognitive performance and brain health are improved by single sessions of long
term participation in physical activity. The people who benefit the most are the ones who participate in
vigorous or moderate intensity physical activity during this period. In school, this long term period
would be during either the child s recess, physical education class, or physical activity in the
classroom. Through multiple tests, physical activity and physical fitness has been proved to improve
academic performance. One example of a test used to prove this theory was when a seminal research
was conducted by Gabbard and Barton (1979). This experiment consisted of six different conditions of
physical activity (no activity, 20, 30, 40, and 50 minutes) and was completed by 106 2nd graders
during physical education. Each of the physical education sessions were followed by a 5 minute rest
and then a completion of 36 math problems. The authors found a potential threshold effect when
noticing that only the 50 minute condition improved in mathematical performance. Other experiments
like this one have also been conducted to prove academic improvement from physical activity.

A Look At Israel s Economy
Countries since the beginning of time have traded, competed, and influenced the world economy. A
country s political views, religious views, and culture all play an important role in how the country
conducts business in the global market. They also play a role in how a specific country makes
economic decisions as well as the result of those decisions and how it transitions to the world market.
It is extremely important to understand the role of each country and how it conducts business in the
global economy. The main focus of this essay is to take an indepth look at Israel s economy both
internally and globally. Israel has been around for millions of years and is one of the most fought over
lands in the world. Israel s history begins when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although Israel is only about the size of New Jersey it has all the geographical features a continent
would have. For example if we were to look at Israel on the map we could identify the fertile valleys
in the North, the coastal plain of the Mediterranean, to the mountainous Negev desert in the South,
and finally to the Jordan valley. Israel is packed with a variety of geographical features, all of which
can be seen within a matter of minutes from each other. It would only take a little over an hour to
travel from the most western part of Israel to the eastern end by car and about six hours to travel from
the most northern part to the southern tip.
The total population of Israel is about 7,821,850, it is currently 99th most populated area compared to
the rest of the world. About 341,400 people live in the West Bank, approximately 18,900 live in the

Matinees musicales were written purposely as a ballet. In the beginning, it was a subito dynamic
which occurred in 5 intervals, followed by a happy/cheery like piano dynamic theme that represented
the march. This part the ballerinas showed a light but fast footwork. Throughout the composition the
beat was recurring to the movement before it and in some instances it mimic the beat but in lower
rather in a higher level. There were five movements in Matinees, the March, noctume, waltz,
pantomime and moto perpetuo. A moto perpetuo is another name for perpetuum mobile which means
a fast moving instrumental music that consists of mainly of notes that are of equal length. Along with
Benjamin Britten also included Soirees musicales, Op.9. Was a suite of five movements beginning
with the march, cansonetta, tirolese, bolero, tarantella; that came from different parts of the musicales.
The march was a grand subito with a fast tempo following the canzonetta that was more ritantando of
the rhythm and a lullaby timbre; tirolese was more of a happy tone color and with 4 beat changes that
range from high to low; bolero has that folk theme to it and tarantella was a grand rhythm with triple
meter. Britten had a sense of humor which explains for the playful theme at times, which was widely

Freely Controlled Reaction Time
Introduction: As many states have implemented laws against distracting driving, I was interested to
see how a person s reaction time differed when they were concentrating to when they were distracted.
I predicted a person s mean reaction time would increase when they were distracted, compared to their
concentrating reaction time. Methods: The study was conducted on a Thursday morning from 10:00
am until 11:30 am in a Rigge Science lab. Fifty Creighton juniors and seniors worked in pairs and
used a 30 cm ruler to measure each other s reaction times. One partner held the ruler while the other,
the subject, placed their thumb and index finger at the 0 cm dash on the ruler. The first partner
dropped the ruler without any warning and measured, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To test for normality, I ran a Shapiro Wilk test on the differences between the means. To achieve
normality, I had to transform the data by square rooting the means (W = 0.95565, p value = 0.05848).
Then I ran the paired t test on the transformed means and got a significant result (t = 2.8715, df = 49, p
value = 0.006019). I graphed the original data to show the mean concentrating reaction time is smaller
than the mean distracted reaction time (Figure 1). Figure 1: Mean concentrating reaction times and
mean distracted reaction times of 50 Creighton University students. The mean for each condition is
shown with a black X. The differences were deemed significant by the paired t test (t = 2.8715, df =
49, p value = 0.0060). Conclusion: This study investigated if there was a difference in reaction when
the students were concentrating compared to when the students were distracted. The raw data showed
a difference in mean reactions time between the two conditions and a paired t test deemed the
differences significant (t = 2.8715, df = 49, p value = 0.0060). The null hypothesis is rejected and the
mean difference between concentrating and distracted reaction times is not zero. The mean
concentrated reaction times are smaller than the distracted reaction times. Each person could react
quicker when they were concentration compared to when they

what typical day like in this career is and when you reach the career goal. For a pastry chef the salary
for a veteran pastry chef is between 30,000 dollars and 50,000 dollars it can go up to 60,000 dollars a
year but the 60,000 dollars are for experienced pastry chefs. For entry level pay it is 8.00 dollars an
hour. But the person who wants to own their own and operate his or hers own bakeries for their peers
salaries are 17,000 if successful. But for the geographic effects and how many hours required each
week are long days on your feet but those days consider getting paid. Some days you need to start
early like 3 or 4 am in the morning. But my opinion I think the longs weeks can be everyday working
even working on holidays. But to my opinion I think pastry chef s days can be hacked and very
stressful if you don t know what you are doing. But the pastry chefs that do it enjoy their job but if you

According to the Humanmetrics Jung Typology Test, I am considered an ISTJ. I have a preference of
introversion over extraversion, sensing over intuition, thinking over feeling and judging over
perceiving. All of my preferences were considered moderate . ISTJs are initially considered
unapproachable and are not overly quick to offer up their thoughts. Efficiency is an integral part of the
ISTJ personality and a lack of consistency can easily anger an ISTJ. The Introverted Sensing aspect
concerns specifics. People that possess this quality typically hold everything to a clear standard. ISTJs
have introverted feelings and do not typically express their thoughts. Warmth is not often exuded by
ISTJs. Their feelings are expressed unlike most people and are most often observed nonverbally. To

efficiency and quite a bit of responsibility. Examples of career types for ISTJs include military and

Science and Technology in World Agriculture
In Science and Technology in World Agriculture: Narratives and Discourses, Pasquale Lucio
Scandizzo persuades the experts in biotechnology that the World Bank can create a balance between
conservative and radical parties. In order to reinforce his stance, Scandizzo uses various forms of
evidence: the narratives of both parties, the description the ecological problems, and the World
Development Report.
Scandizzo uses a description of the narratives of both conservative and radical parties to establish
common ground amongst readers. This evidence is important because he realizes that his readers
might come from either one of those parties. Therefore, Scandizzo creates a balance by equally
providing evidence of narratives from conservative and radical parties. Providing a balanced narrative
for both views effectively shows readers that Scandizzo values the neutral position between two
opposing views. This is important to successfully gain attention from both types of readers to continue
listening to what Scandizzo is saying. In telling the evidence of narratives from both sides, Scandizzo
is more concerned with discussing both sides achievements in increasing the yield in agriculture. This
is effective because it creates a dynamic in readers minds: Scandizzo can first boost readers
confidence about their belief and, in turn, makes readers consider the achievements of the opposite
parties, thus successfully establishing common ground. Before Scandizzo describes the

Analysis Of Silent Spring By Rachel Carson

Silent Spring
Everyday, all around the world, people and animals enjoy the simple pleasures that nature brings
them. But in the past, excessive pesticide use by farmers has changed the quality of the environment
for the worse. Rachel Carson, American scientist, author, and conservationist, fought against this
ridiculous act for many years. In her 1962 book, Silent Spring, Carson considers that if farmers
continue to apply generous amounts of pesticides, the spring season will eventually become dead quiet
due to all the extinct animals. By discussing the consequences of these pesticides on the environment,
wildlife, and humans, Carson encourages the public to take necessary action to prevent the dangers of
pesticide application.
In an attempt to evoke a desire in the public to conserve their environment, Carson shares how the
pesticides negatively affect the environment. By saying that the vegetation coated with lethal film,
Carson convinces the audience that the crops they purchase from farmers are dangerously deadly. To
prevent themselves from danger, people are motivated to change farmers actions for safer vegetation.
Additionally, the farmers treat an area of river bottomland with parathion, ruining the river, along with
the public s ecosystem. Likewise, people are more likely to fight for something that directly affects
them, as the application of pesticide does. To further support her argument, Carson informs the readers
of the growing trend toward aerial applications of such deadly poisons such as parathion. Carson s
casual language emphasizes the normalcy of a disastrous situation that hurts the environment. By
commenting on the public dangers of pesticide application, Carson further develops her argument that
environmental reform is a necessity.
By speaking to the effects the pesticides have on wildlife, Carson reinforces the idea that public action
needs to take place to save the animal population. Carson mentions that the pesticides casualty list
included some 65,000 red winged blackbirds and starlings. Carson s militaristic language emphasizes
the seriousness and urgency of the topic, drawing the public s attention. Moreover, uninvolved animals
such as

What Is The Value Of Human Life
Tick Tock. I cannot be late. My boss will fire me if I am late. Why does the world place so much value
into the artificial construct of time? One of the reasons that time is so valuable is because we have a
limited amount of it. However, effort, commitment, and beauty also possess value. How do we decide
what actually has value? Certain aspects of reality, such as human life, intrinsically possess value, and
deserve protection regardless of their individual personalities.
Say a project is due in two weeks. There is plenty of time to relax. But what if the project is due
tomorrow? Suddenly, time seems more valuable. The world gives extraordinary value to the little
scraps of paper we call money. While the monetary value does not change, the personal value varies
greatly depending on the perspective. These examples explain how the perception of value differs
depending on quantity. Individuals living in poverty value their possessions and relationships more
than the rich. Human mortality highlights the value of living life with a purpose, whether that purpose
prolongs one s own life, or protects the lives of others.
Life Boat Ethics discusses the value of human life by presenting the argument that, if ten people could
fit in a lifeboat, then one should give up their spot for someone who deserves it more (Hardin).
However, the article does not specify what makes any person more worthy of salvation than the
others. If one bases value on the amount of time possessed, then surely the children are the most
important lives. However, the elderly have gained experience and wisdom, both of which contain
value. And what if the person given a spot by the sacrifice of another gives up his spot as well? This
means that the first person s sacrifice was meaningless. How does one determine which life has more
value in these circumstances?
Museums and art enthusiasts spend a lot of money on works of art. Why are certain paintings more
valuable than others? There are not a limited amount of paintings. Perhaps it is impossible to truly
calculate value, because the perception of value differs between individuals. A critic would value a
beautiful piece of artwork more than an average piece, and would consequently spend more money or

Purnell s Cultural Assessment Model Essay
Purnell s Cultural Assessment Model Paper
Purnell s Model for Cultural Competencies is represented by a circle. The perimeter of the circle is
made up of three different layers, each representing something different. The outer layer represents the
global society; the middle layer represents the individual s family and the inner layer of the perimeter
represents the individual. The center of the circle is divided up into twelve different categories, which
look like slices of a pie. Each of these categories represents part of one of the 12 different cultural
domains. The very center of the circle, inside the pie slices is a small black circle, this represents all
the unknown information about the individual (Dayer Berenson, 2014).

Psychodynamic Personality Profile of Johnny Depp Essay
Personality, like most core Psychology subjects, is difficult to define. Personality is essentially the
science of describing and understanding people. No two people are the same; even identical twins will
tell you that they are very different to their identical counterpart. There are some who are anxious and
there are those who are risk takers. There are some who are carefree while there are those who are
highly strung and there are those who are over confident while some are just plain shy. It is this issue
of differences that are fundamental to the study and examination of personality.
Johnny Depp, born June 9th, 1963 in Owensboro, Kentucky self proclaimed barbeque capital of the
world has led an interesting life filled with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Research also shows indicates that the Big Five has distinct biological substrates thereby linking trait
perspective with the biological perspective (DeYoung, Quilty Peterson, 2007). However this
convergence of perspectives is actually productive in that all perspectives by themselves have their
disadvantages as well as their advantages. If all perspectives can coincide with one another,
explanations of personality will become so much easier.
The psychoanalytic perspective is the most interesting theory of the analysis of an individual and their
personality. Initially developed by Freud during the latter half of the 1900s, it deals with, among other
things, the irrational and less predictable patterns of behaviour and human thinking, which is what
most other theories of personality often leave out and are criticised for it. In understanding Johnny
Depp, a psychodynamic perspective best accounts for his personality: as a complete theory, it can
explain his behaviour from when he was a child to becoming a famous movie star, integrates other
theories into its analysis, such as Evolutionary and Learning perspectives, thus providing a fairly
reliable and accurate interpretation of his personality.
As a kid, Johnny Depp had a troublesome childhood. His father was continually searching for secure
work in order to support his family, resulting in them moving around a lot, living in motels, shifting
from place to place. This no doubt took a

Genetic Counseling Personal Statement
The perfect combination of research, personal connection, and health care. Genetic Counseling is the
practice of informing and advising patients who may have a potential risk of genetic disorders
concerning appropriate testing methods, medical treatment, and many other critical decisions
concerning their health. I have chosen to pursue the career of genetic counseling because it fulfills the
dream I have had that I will one day be able to do research concerning genetics and interact with the
patients that the research would affect. My decision to become a genetic counselor has been

Who Is Fortunato Ignorant
In Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allan Poe, Fortunato s character is shown as an ignorant, too
trusting, and naive. I think this is because he must of been somewhat young. In the story Montresor
says My dear Fortunato, you are luckily met. How remarkably well you are looking today. He puts up
a good front acting friendly. Fortunato allows Montresor to lead him down into the catacombs
thinking nothing of it. The reason I find that Fortunato is ignorant is that when Montresor insists on
Fortunato going back up and out of the catacombs due to his coughing he refuses. Enough the cough is
a mere nothing; it will not kill me. I will not die of a cough. Is what Fortunato s response is to
Montresor s suggestion. Then Montresor offers him wine.

The Relationship Between Temporal Attention And Implicit...
The relationship between temporal attention and implicit learning has not been discovered in research.
This experiment was designed to see if implicit learning could influence attention. We hypothesized
that periodicity of a stimulus would aid in the learning process. A 45 minute Rapid Serial Visual
Presentation task was utilized. There were 48 Indiana State University undergraduates who
participated in the study. 11 uppercase letters was presented in RSVP task. Participants identified one
blue target among 10 white distractors, at 10 Hz, for 10 practice trials and 462 experimental trials.

Attention is a fascinating and highly researched area in psychology. We use attention every day and
though it seems like something simple it is actually a complex process. Some of the most interesting
studies conducted were cases where people were not paying attention as one would assume.
Phenomena like Pseudoneglect, Hemispatial neglect, and Inattentional blindness incites psychologists
because they want to know why such cognitive deficits occur. These types of phenomena all stems
from attention. The ability to be completely normal, but make leftward errors in line bisection because
the left side of space tends to be favored; the ability to only attend to one side of one s body and
completely ignore the other; or the fact that we miss activities that occur right in front us, all
contribute to cognitive research that interest researchers. Studies about attention are separated into two
groups, spatial attention and temporal attention. Spatial attention simply means attention in space and
temporal attention measures attention over time. This study concentrates on temporal attention and
how it relates to learning.
In this study we wanted to measure whether or not implicit learning occurs with time in the RSVP
task. Implicit learning simply means unintentional or indirect learning. We also wanted to determine if
periodicity plays a role in the implicit learning of a timing pattern (Key, 2013). In order to understand

The Road Not Taken And Robert Frost Comparison Analysis
Imagine being outside with the colorful leaves falling to the ground in warm, comfy clothes and hot
chocolate in a mug. Often times poets use nature and sensory detail to inspire their writing and engage
their audience with a mental connection. One can compare and contrast Robert Frost s The Road Not
Taken to Emily Mottley, Annijah Collins, and McKenna Faychak s Seasons Changing by using
specific details from each poem. When interpreting the The Road Not Taken and Seasons Changing,
one can justify that the differences are their poetic structures and making different choices, while at
the same time recognize that the similarities are that each use nature images, references to Autumn,
and an abundant amount of detail to paint a picture for the reader. To begin differentiating, one can
first analyze the use of poetic structure in The Road Not Taken in contrast to Seasons Changing
through rhyme scheme, stanzas, and rhyme pattern. The authors use different ending rhyme schemes
in their poems. For example, Frost uses the structure ABAAB exemplified by the words from stanza 2:
fair, claim, wear, there, same (Frost 6 10), while Mottley, Collins, and Faychak incorporate the rhyme
scheme of a coupling pattern by two lines rhyming with eachother using the words: brown, down,
weather, together, cold, old, cuddle, and couple (Mottley, Collins and Faychak 1 8). Correspondingly,
Frost has five lines in each of his four stanzas, while Mottley, Collins, and Faychak have

Literature does not agree upon how spousal income effects a women s labor force participation, but
the effect on women s work choice is constant. In the years 1960 to 1977 a total of 8.7 million women
entered the labor force, 58.5% had spouses with above average incomes (Ryscavage 1979). This data
supports the argument that high spousal income positively affects the woman s labor force
participation. In contrast Shaw (1992) argues that it is possible that a wealthy husband negatively
affects the wife s participation in the labor force. She states that because of spousal income being
above average it gives the woman economic stability to not join the labor force. Using the Current

Project A Natural Disaster And Disaster Recovery Plan
In this case assignment I am to research a natural disaster, discuss if the local government has made
disaster recovery plans and whether or how the plan has been executed. Whether the plan was
effective, and how it can be improved. I am also to describe the natural disaster, when, where, how,
and what happened. Before we can understand the what, we need to make sure we understand the why

Disaster recovery plan defines how an organization will deal with a possible disasters whether is
natural or man made. A disaster is just an event that makes the business process of normal functions
impossible or challenging. A disaster recovery plan comprises of the protections taken so that the
effects of a disaster will be mitigated and the organization will be able to continue or rapidly resume
their normal operation roles. Normally, disaster recovery planning includes an analysis or risk
assessment of the organizations processes and stability needs; it may also consist a major focus on
disaster prevention. Disaster recovery plan in the United States usually has been controlled by State
and local governments, with the Federal government as a supporting role. While we remain truthful to
the basic constitutional principle, we must also accept that events such as hurricane Katrina and the
terrorist attacks of 9/11, require the government, both local and State to tailor the application of these

The Golden Compass Philip Pullman
Despite the variety of genres that Philip Pullman has explored from historical fiction to fantasy which
have lead to a plethora of criticism, Pullman writes enchanting tales first and foremost for his audience

to let the children enjoy the books before doing anything else, before counting semicolons, looking at
specific adjectives etc. His books are written to enchant, delight and beguile the read to be enjoyed

your books with passages from Milton, Rilke and John Ashbery, then you had better write well.
Pullman does. His prose has texture and flexibility, like excellent fabric. And he gives us so much.

Ethical Issues Of Multinational Corporations Essay
ETHICAL ISSUES IN MULTINATIONAL CORPORATIONS
Introduction
A multinational is defined as an enterprise operating in several countries but managed from its home
country.
Ethics as a philosophy is defined as the discipline concerned with what is morally good and bad, right
and wrong.
Ethical issues arise when one is unsure of what is the right course of action to be taken at a single
time. This problem becomes exponentially complex when applied to a multinational organization.
Globalisation has enabled many companies to venture abroad in an attempt to grow their market
presence while also boosting profitability, acquire cheaper raw materials, and gain access to low cost
of labor.
Generally, any company or group that derives a quarter of its revenue from operations outside of its
home country is considered a multinational corporation.
There are four categories of multinational corporations: a multinational, decentralized corporation
with strong home country presence a global, centralized corporation that acquires cost advantage
through centralized production wherever cheaper resources are available an international company
that builds on the parent corporation s technology or R D a transnational enterprise that combines the
previous three approaches.
Multinational corporations operate across many countries, and each country has its own laws and
cultures and also diverse ethical practices and social norms.
Some of the most notable multinationals include

Charles Spurgeon Lectures To My Students Summary
In his book Lectures to My Students, Charles Spurgeon lays out a comprehensive ministerial guide for

attentiveness, and truth. He further shares, What a dreadful thing it will be for me if I should be
ignorant of the power of the truth which I am preparing to proclaim (2010, Chap. I). The preacher
must take great care in managing his own soul before pursuing the heart of others.

The Collection That I Am A Building Essay
The collection that I am going to be building will be focusing on children s books that feature racially
diverse main characters and or themes. The focus of this collection proposal is to bring books with
diverse characters onto the shelves and make them easily accessible and visible to young children and
families. I was provided with an allocated 5,000 dollars Canadian to spend on this special collection.
My initial goal was to select books with people of colour as the main characters exclusively. The issue
with this plan is there are lots of books about African Canadian children but not very many about
Indigenous children. Due to this, I expanded my search criteria to include books featuring diverse
characters where there were also people of colour featured as secondary characters. By expanding my
search, I was able to feature more racially diverse characters. The first step in my selection process
was searching online for lists of books published by organizations, schools and blogs that featured
racially diverse main characters. I used Amazon extensively once I had found titles of interest.
Amazon provided me with the ISBN numbers to search as specifically as possible and offered similar
title suggestions. I cross referenced the titles through the Halifax Public Libraries Discover Catalog to
see if they were already owned. My goal was to select new titles so I was not building a collection that
already existed somewhere else. I paid particular attention to books

Buddhism Compare And Contrast Essay
Another example of a triumph of Buddhism is from the pre Tibetan view that the land of Tibet was
considered to be a gigantic demoness where offerings were made to ensure she was mollified for the

therefore defeated this demoness by building temples on her four limbs and over her heart to render
her incapable of hindering the spread of Buddhism in Tibet.

through good deeds in the same way; that is by living a meaningful and good life, turning hand

ultimate aim of being reborn into the human realm or a higher paradisiacal world of Tibetan
cosmology.
There is a complicated relationship of mutual influence that exits between Bön and Buddhism, that
traces back through the centuries of shared history and turmoil, while also progressing into the modern
era in synchronicity.
In conclusion, the state of modern day Tibetan Buddhism has only been strengthened by the
incorporation of practices from other cultures and countries, this has made a thriving and growing

not glorious, but is instead destructive.
Editha s character conveys the ignorance of the common people by highlighting the impractical ideas

there are no two sides anymore and there is nothing now but our country (Howells). As long as
America is first, she has no regards for anyone else in the world. She is justifying the murder of people
in the name of American patriotism. This almost makes the lives taken during war seem less valuable,
which is unacceptable. Through a letter that Editha wrote to George, she affirms her unawareness
regarding war. In the letter, she states that if George does not enlist, she will break off the engagement
because the man she would marry must be devoted to his country first (Free). Editha lives in Northern
New York, where it is difficult to see the repercussions of war. Because of this, Editha does not seem
to care that war affects every country involved, not just America. At the end of the story when Editha
visits the Gearson family, Mrs. Gearson remarks you thought it would be all right for my George, your

Summary Of Immigrants And Crime Statistics
This article has brought up the truth when it comes to immigrants and crime statistics. With the
upcoming American elections, the topic of immigrants is widely debated and discussed upon.
Statistics which are given indicate that crime rates for immigrants are increasingly high. This instills

immigrant crimes are exaggerated and emphasized upon. Crime rates as the article mentioned are low.
Immigrants are not solely responsible for committing crimes. Moral panic occurs since the elections

The gold rush massively impacted every aspect of the nation, although not all these changes were
positive. With the gold rush came the introduction of more diverse culture, increased population and
infrastructure. Before the 1850 s, Australia was a prison colony meant as a punishment for convicts of
the British. However, in just the fifty years after the beginning of the Australian gold rush, Australia
became an independent country. From a wilderness inhabited by convicts to a free and federated
nation in less than half a century. Without the gold rush, our society wouldn t be what it is today. The
discovery of gold sparked a massive influx of immigration to the still forming country of Australia.
During the very early years of the gold rush, NSW and Victoria were the centre for gold mining and
attracted thousands of hopeful diggers. This rapid introduction of new people had many impacts on
Australian society. People came from different points of the world to mine on Australia s gold rich
fields. The majority of were British but many others came from Germany, Italy, France, China and
even America. This created a rich multicultural melting pot that would forever forge a highly diverse
population. A repercussion of a sudden influx of multiculturalism was the targeting of a group of
foreigners that attracted particular attention. These were the Chinese; as their numbers began

The Identity of an American Puerto Rican Essay
The Identity of an American Puerto Rican Am I American or Puerto Rican , a question that wanders
along the halls of my mind all the time? Many Puerto Ricans might not agree, but I feel that I am,
American , Puerto Rican American that is. As a child my own parents deprived me of my culture and
true identity. They spoke to me in a language that many Puerto Ricans refused or detested to learn,
English. The only thing I can actually say that I know about Puerto Rican heritage is the comida we
shared during family gatherings. In Spanish the words are habichuelas con arroz; in English, rice and
beans; and in any language they translate into the food staples of island life (p. 59, Fernandez). I went
to Puerto Rico when I was four ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though my readings can contradict such happy memories, I will soon talk about the political,
economic, social relations and identity issues that Puerto Ricans had to encounter after the Spanish
American War and during the United States invasion and how it affected Puerto Ricans then and now.
The political status, who cares about politics and its status? Well many Puerto Ricans did when the
United States invaded it. There were so many issues about the island wanting to be self governed.
According to Fernandez, others wanted statehood, while still others adamantly opposed the inclusion
of the statehood ideal in any Union platform; to paraphrase one protester, the United States was able to
deny Puerto Rico both statehood and self government. That was its right. But it was not able to deny
the island its independence because that was a right of the Puerto Rican people (p. 43). Still, until
present day the island is indecisive about becoming a state or staying a commonwealth or even being
independent. After the Spanish American War Puerto Ricans had more of a decision to make about
what they wanted to do with themselves. They weren t under Spanish rule anymore, but inherited the
American Government to help with certain affairs, though, cries for help were sometimes ignored. For
example, on August 12, 1907, Jose De Diego stopped at Oyster Bay to once again plead for more self
government . When the petition was duly filed and, like

A History Of Christmas In The 19th Century
The History of Christmas in America
In the first half of the 19th century, Christmas was a very different kind of holiday than it is today.
People did not have a set way of celebrating. Christmas was not even an official holiday yet.
So, communities around the country honored the day in different ways. Some observed Christmas as
an important Christian religious day, honoring the birth of Jesus. Others celebrated the day with
parties, music, drinking and eating. And, some communities did not celebrate the day at all.
But, it was during the early 1800s that Americans began to reinvent the holiday. They started
combining ancient Christmas traditions with modern American influences. Shirley Griffith and Steve
Ember tell the story.
In 1819, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Louisiana was the first state to make the move in 1837. By 1860, 14 other states had followed. It was
not until 1870 that President Ulysses Grant made Christmas a federal holiday.
Americans already knew old Christmas songs that came from England and other areas of Europe. But
many new American Christmas songs started to become popular. For example, in 1849, a religious
leader from Massachusetts wrote the words to It Came Upon a Midnight Clear. The song Jingle Bells
appeared seven years later. And, a year later, a religious leader in Williamsport, Pennsylvania wrote
the song We Three Kings of Orient Are.
And of course, no discussion of Christmas would be complete without talking about of one of the
holiday s most famous representations: Santa Claus.
This character is based on the story of Saint Nicholas, a Christian holy person believed to have lived
in the third century. Saint Nicholas became known as a protector of children. In his role as a Christmas
hero, different cultures have given him different names. These include Sinterklaas, Kris Kringle and
Father Christmas. But for most Americans his most popular name would become Santa

Comparing Societies Vs Foraging Societies
Living the life in a foraging society, people had no control of the source of food and it could be brutal.
They depended on the food that they hunted and gathered. These societies didn t have an efficient
system of obtaining food. The men and women both spent their time searching for food, which could
ve showed gender equality. Searching for food could be dangerous for these people because they
could be attacked/killed by animals or even humans. They were demographically small and always on
the move, they did not build permanent shelters or dwellings and had few personal possessions. In
contrast to foraging societies, state societies exhibit to some degree of complexity with their social
organizations and government structures. These people

Paul Lawrence Intrinsic And Extrinsic Motivation
Paul Lawrence
Paul Lawrence theory explains about the human nature and it describes about the four factors that will
affect the human nature and these factors are bond ,acquire, learn and defend. These factors also called
drives but the question is this what drives an individual.Every individual has several drives but all
drives cannot be satisfied at a time.
The first drive is acquire, and it describes how a human improve his status by acquiring experiences
and it is very common. It describes how human compete with others in his life like employees of the
same company have competitions with other employees for different positions and salary.
Next is bonding,as it is very important in making relationships .The bond is considered to be strong as
it will make by mutual understanding and sharing.Employees working in a group have the advantage
of managing the organization in a better way.
The third factor is drive to learn and it describes that if a human has willingness of learning the things
in the environment then he will come to know that how things are working .If he has a job then he has
the opportunity of developing his knowledge in his field.
The fourth factor is defend,it describes how humans protect themselves if they feel any harm on their
believes and experiences
Motivation concepts
Its necessary to know about what motivates an individual. There are two concepts for this intrinsic and
extrinsic motivation. The purpose is to know about what factors motivates an

How The Atoms Are Arranged Within A Molecule
Description
When we just look at the molecular formula, we don t know how the atoms are arranged within a
molecule. Different arrangements of atoms are possible in one formula and these are called structural
isomers, which we will focus on for this lesson.
!!!Structural Isomers
Did you love playing with building blocks when you were young? I remember taking the blocks apart
and putting them back together. Each time, I create different shapes and structures, all the while, using
the same set of blocks.
Let us think of atoms in a molecular formula as building blocks. __Molecular formulas__ tell us how
many atoms of each element there are in a molecule. Just like the building blocks, these atoms can be
bonded together in different ways. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So, we can say that butane and isobutane are structural isomers.
!!!Types of Structural Isomers and Examples
Now that we know what structural isomers mean, let s discuss the different types of structural isomers.
These are chain isomers, functional group isomers and positional isomers.
!!Chain Isomers
__Chain isomers__ are a type of structural isomers that differ in terms of the branches in their carbon
chains. For chain isomers, we can imagine removing one carbon and its attachments in a chain and
sticking it together with another carbon within the chain.
For instance, for pentane, which has a molecular formula of C sub 5 H sub 12 , has three different
chain isomers. In the illustration below, it shows that pentane and isopentane are chain isomers of each
other. The CH sub 3 group (circled in red) of pentane is switched with a hydrogen atom on the carbon
chain. Once this is done, it produces a chain isomer, isopentane.
Pentane and Isopentane Are Chain Isomers
Below, we can see another chain isomer of pentane, which is neopentane. Neopentane results from
switching the CH sub 3 on the left and the H atom (circled in red) with each other, and the other CH
sub 3 group on the right and the H atom (circled in blue). Pentane and Neopentane Are Chain Isomers
By switching the hydrogen and CH sub 3 groups on the pentane chain, we change the way the atoms

Relay Network Optimal Design Of Distributed Concatenated...
RELAY NETWORK OPTIMAL DESIGN OF DISTRIBUTED CONCATENATED ALAMOUTI
CODES
Yuchen Cao
Professor: Yanwu Ding
Department of EECS, Wichita State University, KS, US
ABSTRACT
In this project, Based on uniquely factorable constellation pair (UFCP) and space time block code
(STBC), a novel distributed concatenated Alamouti code is devised for a one way relaying network
consisting of two end nodes with each having a single antenna and one relay node equipped with two
antennas. Allowing the terminal nodes and the relay node to transmit their own information
concurrently at the bit level, and turns the equivalent channel between the two end nodes into a
product of two Alamouti channels. thus, called UFCP concatenated Alamouti space time ... Show

However, the relay nodes in currently available relay networks with distributed STBCs just passively
forward whatever they have received from the source node to the destination without being able to
transmit their own information. The conventional strategy to realize information sharing is
accomplished by allocating orthogonal sub channels to relay such as time slots or frequency bands,
operating virtually at a packet level. This leads to significant delay. Despite the fact that this method
may work well for some networks with long coherence time, it will not be applicable to a certain of
strictly constrained delay systems. Motivated by all the aforementioned facts, in this paper, we
consider a one way relaying network consisting of two single antenna terminals and one relay having
two antennas. Our main objective is to design a new distributed STBC for the network that allows the
source node and relay node to transmit information simultaneously at the bit level. The primary idea
of achieving this goal is to properly make use of the recently developed concept of UFCP and the
Alamouti coding scheme at the relay node. The significant advantage of this novel code design is the
optimal ML detector is equivalent to a bit by bit detector.

Uniquely factorable constellation pair (UFCP):each output z has a corresponding unique input x

A Comparison Of John F. Kennedy And Donald Trump
I m going to make America great again. This is the plan that President Trump had come up with to get
him elected, and could possibly help America big time. Ask not what your country can do for you ask
what you can do for your country. This was a quote from our former President, John F. Kennedy. JFK
has had a huge impact on America in the late 1960 s. This essay will compare the two presidents by
looking at their background, achievements, and their goals.
Donald Trump was born on June 14, 1946. He was born and raised in the city of Queens, New York,
the largest in area of the five boroughs. Because of how energetic he was as a child, his parents sent
him to a military academy at the age of 13. He did well at the academy and has accomplished many
things by graduation. Afterwards, he entered Fordham University for two years before transferring to
the University of Pennsylvania, and graduated from there in 1968 with a degree in economics. Trump
married three times and has had five kids from his time being married. His current wife is Melania
Trump, a former fashion model who has moved to being a full time mom. Donald Trump Jr. is his
oldest child. He is an American businessman and former reality TV personality. His second child is
Ivanka Trump, who is an American television personality, fashion designer, author and

  • 2. Nazi Germany, The Islamic State Of Iraq And Syria Essay Imagine a country that is run by insane government officials with a military consisting of blood crazed and psychopathic soldiers who conquer land by force and murders anyone that does not agree with their values or beliefs. You might think that this thought could be the center of a suspenseful film, but sadly this is a case that takes place right now in reality. One could compare these actions to Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, or the Soviet Union but those countries are long gone and are not committing such crimes today. Right now, at this moment, today s Nazi Germany is the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, more commonly known as ISIS , is the country that is committing war crimes, violating international law, and promotes rape and sexual slavery today at this very moment. Therefore, I believe it is the United States duty and moral obligation to launch a full scale military ground force to fight and eliminate all forces of the Islamic State. People in the United States may wonder how the problems of genocide, rape, and sexual slavery in the Middle East committed by the Islamic State affect them. The fact that citizens of the United States wonder how the problems in the Middle East pertaining to the Islamic State affect them is a valid thought to ponder about being that most of us have always lived in a safe, secure, and civilized society and environment that the thought of any of problems such as genocide and sexual slavery happening ... • 3. Nontariff barries Case Study #1: Non tariff Barriers to International Trade 1. In the Xia case, if the WTO were to rule in favor of Brazil, which of the WTO trade agreements would contain the justification and why? Answer: Brazil banned imports of Xia goods from China because there was allegations and unconfirmed speculation pertaining to China s use of hazardous materials (for example, lead paint and potentially carcinogenic plastic and rubbers) to manufacture toys cheaply, which sparked consumer panic around the globe. The imports of Xia goods were banned until the test was performed to guarantee that these goods do not possess any health risk. The Chinese government completely refuted this claim and fearing that other country might follow the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Answer: The Chinese government would reduce or eliminate the quotas and other measures which until now have protected domestic production of soybeans from cheaper imports. China s consumption of soybeans ballooned by more than 160% between 2000 and 2011 when import barriers were removed, but the area planted with soybeans declined by 20% during those same years. Chinese farmers were simply unable to compete with imported soybeans that were RMB 300 to 600 (US$45 90) cheaper per ton than domestic beans. Imported soybeans now account for three quarters of the soybeans processed into cooking oil and feed in China, the products of soybean crushing. If China is able to prove that domestic soybean producers are not able to survive because of low cost imports from Brazil, the WTO ruling would be in favor of China and such measures would be upheld. However, if such measures were used as retaliation to Brazilian ban on Chinese toys, the WTO ruling would be in favor of Brazil and China would not be able to restrict import of Soybean from Brazil. • 4. Capacit Capacity The process analytics simulation that we started in class was an interesting and practical demonstration and actual application of process flow analysis. The first problem which we performed in small groups within the class, was laid out very simply as a set of sequential processes, each with individual characteristics, that are ordered in pre determined process that when complete, produces one production unit. The initial concepts demonstrated were those of cycle time, throughput, capacity, utilization and bottleneck. Cycle time reflects the average time it takes for units to complete the process once the process gets running. (Leonard, 2007, p. 10). Generally the cycle time will be determined by the longest process in a sequential flow. Throughput is the amount of time it takes to complete the first unit. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Leonard, 2007, p. 11) Utilization is the mathematical calculation of process throughput over process capacity with the average of the individual process utilization rates being the overall utilization rate. (Leonard, 2007, p. 18) . The utilization rate was the hardest for the group to grasp until they effectively understood that the bottleneck, the process that limits the overall capacity of the system being measured (Leonard, 2007, p. 18), is always the process that is running at 100% utilization, and all other processes utilization is calculated on the basis of this bottleneck process. The remainder of problem 1 in the simulation was emphasizing the importance identifying the bottleneck and calculating the effects of changing the process when you change the bottleneck and when you change other factors. If you affect the bottleneck than you effect process. If the bottleneck remains unchanged than the overall efficiency of the process does not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Video Games Should Be Legal Violent video games have been a source of controversy since 1976. Though there are many issues surrounding these games, there is one that is quite fickle: whether or not the descriptions for violent video games should be more thorough and if parents or adults should be able to purchase violent video games for minors. There should be more descriptive ratings and adults should not be allowed to buy video games for minors, because the ratings and descriptions now are not very thorough, and minors can still get access even though regulations have been put in place. Violence and other inappropriate material has been a pinnacle of popular video games over time. For most a video game is just that, a game, but for others and those in the media ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One important instance in video game history was the formation of the ESRB. That is the Entertainment Software Rating Board and they are responsible for giving video games ratings based on what is in them. This was formed due to Congressional hearing in 1993 where the main focus was two controversial video games. It was formed to deflect potential video game regulation by the government as its own entity (NCAC). This allowed for the very controversial game Mortal Kombat to stay in stores. This was a fighting game that was the first to feature real lifelike violence. It not only featured blood and gore, but also more realistic looking characters. The premise of the game was, the player would pick a character and fight other characters to the death, whichever character won gained the ability to perform a finishing move that was very brutal and involved some form of mutilation to the other character. This was the main aspect that had people in uproar. Though due to the formation of the ESRB Mortal Kombat remained in stores. After the formation of the ESRB, there were still instances of uproar over video game violence. • 6. Importance Of Physical Activity And Physical Fitness And... Evidence from multiple studies suggests that increasing physical activity and physical fitness may improve academic performance. Evidence also states that dedicated time to recess in a school day, physical education class, and physical activity in the classroom may facilitate academic performance. Research shows that cognitive performance and brain health are improved by single sessions of long term participation in physical activity. The people who benefit the most are the ones who participate in vigorous or moderate intensity physical activity during this period. In school, this long term period would be during either the child s recess, physical education class, or physical activity in the classroom. Through multiple tests, physical activity and physical fitness has been proved to improve academic performance. One example of a test used to prove this theory was when a seminal research was conducted by Gabbard and Barton (1979). This experiment consisted of six different conditions of physical activity (no activity, 20, 30, 40, and 50 minutes) and was completed by 106 2nd graders during physical education. Each of the physical education sessions were followed by a 5 minute rest and then a completion of 36 math problems. The authors found a potential threshold effect when noticing that only the 50 minute condition improved in mathematical performance. Other experiments like this one have also been conducted to prove academic improvement from physical activity. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Freely Controlled Reaction Time Introduction: As many states have implemented laws against distracting driving, I was interested to see how a person s reaction time differed when they were concentrating to when they were distracted. I predicted a person s mean reaction time would increase when they were distracted, compared to their concentrating reaction time. Methods: The study was conducted on a Thursday morning from 10:00 am until 11:30 am in a Rigge Science lab. Fifty Creighton juniors and seniors worked in pairs and used a 30 cm ruler to measure each other s reaction times. One partner held the ruler while the other, the subject, placed their thumb and index finger at the 0 cm dash on the ruler. The first partner dropped the ruler without any warning and measured, ... To achieve normality, I had to transform the data by square rooting the means (W = 0.95565, p value = 0.05848). Then I ran the paired t test on the transformed means and got a significant result (t = 2.8715, df = 49, p value = 0.006019). I graphed the original data to show the mean concentrating reaction time is smaller than the mean distracted reaction time (Figure 1). Figure 1: Mean concentrating reaction times and mean distracted reaction times of 50 Creighton University students. The mean for each condition is shown with a black X. The differences were deemed significant by the paired t test (t = 2.8715, df = 49, p value = 0.0060). Conclusion: This study investigated if there was a difference in reaction when the students were concentrating compared to when the students were distracted. The raw data showed a difference in mean reactions time between the two conditions and a paired t test deemed the differences significant (t = 2.8715, df = 49, p value = 0.0060). Science and Technology in World Agriculture In Science and Technology in World Agriculture: Narratives and Discourses, Pasquale Lucio Scandizzo persuades the experts in biotechnology that the World Bank can create a balance between conservative and radical parties. In order to reinforce his stance, Scandizzo uses various forms of evidence: the narratives of both parties, the description the ecological problems, and the World Development Report. Scandizzo uses a description of the narratives of both conservative and radical parties to establish common ground amongst readers. This evidence is important because he realizes that his readers might come from either one of those parties. Therefore, Scandizzo creates a balance by equally providing evidence of narratives from conservative and radical parties. Providing a balanced narrative for both views effectively shows readers that Scandizzo values the neutral position between two opposing views. This is important to successfully gain attention from both types of readers to continue listening to what Scandizzo is saying. In telling the evidence of narratives from both sides, Scandizzo is more concerned with discussing both sides achievements in increasing the yield in agriculture. This is effective because it creates a dynamic in readers minds: Scandizzo can first boost readers confidence about their belief and, in turn, makes readers consider the achievements of the opposite parties, thus successfully establishing common ground. • 14. Analysis Of Silent Spring By Rachel Carson Jaanavi Selvaraj Hitchens Pd 8 Silent Spring Everyday, all around the world, people and animals enjoy the simple pleasures that nature brings them. But in the past, excessive pesticide use by farmers has changed the quality of the environment for the worse. Rachel Carson, American scientist, author, and conservationist, fought against this ridiculous act for many years. In her 1962 book, Silent Spring, Carson considers that if farmers continue to apply generous amounts of pesticides, the spring season will eventually become dead quiet due to all the extinct animals. By discussing the consequences of these pesticides on the environment, wildlife, and humans, Carson encourages the public to take necessary action to prevent the dangers of pesticide application. In an attempt to evoke a desire in the public to conserve their environment, Carson shares how the pesticides negatively affect the environment. By saying that the vegetation coated with lethal film, Carson convinces the audience that the crops they purchase from farmers are dangerously deadly. To prevent themselves from danger, people are motivated to change farmers actions for safer vegetation. Additionally, the farmers treat an area of river bottomland with parathion, ruining the river, along with the public s ecosystem. Likewise, people are more likely to fight for something that directly affects them, as the application of pesticide does. To further support her argument, Carson informs the readers of the growing trend toward aerial applications of such deadly poisons such as parathion. Carson s casual language emphasizes the normalcy of a disastrous situation that hurts the environment. By commenting on the public dangers of pesticide application, Carson further develops her argument that environmental reform is a necessity. By speaking to the effects the pesticides have on wildlife, Carson reinforces the idea that public action needs to take place to save the animal population. Carson mentions that the pesticides casualty list included some 65,000 red winged blackbirds and starlings. Carson s militaristic language emphasizes the seriousness and urgency of the topic, drawing the public s attention. Moreover, uninvolved animals such as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. What Is The Value Of Human Life Tick Tock. I cannot be late. My boss will fire me if I am late. Why does the world place so much value into the artificial construct of time? One of the reasons that time is so valuable is because we have a limited amount of it. However, effort, commitment, and beauty also possess value. How do we decide what actually has value? Certain aspects of reality, such as human life, intrinsically possess value, and deserve protection regardless of their individual personalities. Say a project is due in two weeks. There is plenty of time to relax. But what if the project is due tomorrow? Suddenly, time seems more valuable. The world gives extraordinary value to the little scraps of paper we call money. While the monetary value does not change, the personal value varies greatly depending on the perspective. These examples explain how the perception of value differs depending on quantity. Individuals living in poverty value their possessions and relationships more than the rich. Human mortality highlights the value of living life with a purpose, whether that purpose prolongs one s own life, or protects the lives of others. Life Boat Ethics discusses the value of human life by presenting the argument that, if ten people could fit in a lifeboat, then one should give up their spot for someone who deserves it more (Hardin). However, the article does not specify what makes any person more worthy of salvation than the others. If one bases value on the amount of time possessed, then surely the children are the most important lives. However, the elderly have gained experience and wisdom, both of which contain value. And what if the person given a spot by the sacrifice of another gives up his spot as well? This means that the first person s sacrifice was meaningless. How does one determine which life has more value in these circumstances? Museums and art enthusiasts spend a lot of money on works of art. Why are certain paintings more valuable than others? There are not a limited amount of paintings. Perhaps it is impossible to truly calculate value, because the perception of value differs between individuals. A critic would value a beautiful piece of artwork more than an average piece, and would consequently spend more money or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. Psychodynamic Personality Profile of Johnny Depp Essay Personality, like most core Psychology subjects, is difficult to define. Personality is essentially the science of describing and understanding people. No two people are the same; even identical twins will tell you that they are very different to their identical counterpart. There are some who are anxious and there are those who are risk takers. There are some who are carefree while there are those who are highly strung and there are those who are over confident while some are just plain shy. It is this issue of differences that are fundamental to the study and examination of personality. Research also shows indicates that the Big Five has distinct biological substrates thereby linking trait perspective with the biological perspective (DeYoung, Quilty Peterson, 2007). However this convergence of perspectives is actually productive in that all perspectives by themselves have their disadvantages as well as their advantages. If all perspectives can coincide with one another, explanations of personality will become so much easier. The psychoanalytic perspective is the most interesting theory of the analysis of an individual and their personality. Initially developed by Freud during the latter half of the 1900s, it deals with, among other things, the irrational and less predictable patterns of behaviour and human thinking, which is what most other theories of personality often leave out and are criticised for it. In understanding Johnny Depp, a psychodynamic perspective best accounts for his personality: as a complete theory, it can explain his behaviour from when he was a child to becoming a famous movie star, integrates other theories into its analysis, such as Evolutionary and Learning perspectives, thus providing a fairly reliable and accurate interpretation of his personality. As a kid, Johnny Depp had a troublesome childhood. His father was continually searching for secure work in order to support his family, resulting in them moving around a lot, living in motels, shifting from place to place. This no doubt took a ... Attention is a fascinating and highly researched area in psychology. We use attention every day and though it seems like something simple it is actually a complex process. Some of the most interesting studies conducted were cases where people were not paying attention as one would assume. Phenomena like Pseudoneglect, Hemispatial neglect, and Inattentional blindness incites psychologists because they want to know why such cognitive deficits occur. These types of phenomena all stems from attention. The ability to be completely normal, but make leftward errors in line bisection because the left side of space tends to be favored; the ability to only attend to one side of one s body and completely ignore the other; or the fact that we miss activities that occur right in front us, all contribute to cognitive research that interest researchers. Studies about attention are separated into two groups, spatial attention and temporal attention. Spatial attention simply means attention in space and temporal attention measures attention over time. This study concentrates on temporal attention and how it relates to learning. In this study we wanted to measure whether or not implicit learning occurs with time in the RSVP task. Implicit learning simply means unintentional or indirect learning. We also wanted to determine if periodicity plays a role in the implicit learning of a timing pattern (Key, 2013). Often times poets use nature and sensory detail to inspire their writing and engage their audience with a mental connection. One can compare and contrast Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken to Emily Mottley, Annijah Collins, and McKenna Faychak s Seasons Changing by using specific details from each poem. When interpreting the The Road Not Taken and Seasons Changing, one can justify that the differences are their poetic structures and making different choices, while at the same time recognize that the similarities are that each use nature images, references to Autumn, and an abundant amount of detail to paint a picture for the reader. To begin differentiating, one can first analyze the use of poetic structure in The Road Not Taken in contrast to Seasons Changing through rhyme scheme, stanzas, and rhyme pattern. The authors use different ending rhyme schemes in their poems. For example, Frost uses the structure ABAAB exemplified by the words from stanza 2: fair, claim, wear, there, same (Frost 6 10), while Mottley, Collins, and Faychak incorporate the rhyme scheme of a coupling pattern by two lines rhyming with eachother using the words: brown, down, weather, together, cold, old, cuddle, and couple (Mottley, Collins and Faychak 1 8). • 31. Ethical Issues Of Multinational Corporations Essay ETHICAL ISSUES IN MULTINATIONAL CORPORATIONS Introduction A multinational is defined as an enterprise operating in several countries but managed from its home country. Ethics as a philosophy is defined as the discipline concerned with what is morally good and bad, right and wrong. Ethical issues arise when one is unsure of what is the right course of action to be taken at a single time. This problem becomes exponentially complex when applied to a multinational organization. Globalisation has enabled many companies to venture abroad in an attempt to grow their market presence while also boosting profitability, acquire cheaper raw materials, and gain access to low cost of labor. Generally, any company or group that derives a quarter of its revenue from operations outside of its home country is considered a multinational corporation. There are four categories of multinational corporations: a multinational, decentralized corporation with strong home country presence a global, centralized corporation that acquires cost advantage through centralized production wherever cheaper resources are available an international company that builds on the parent corporation s technology or R D a transnational enterprise that combines the previous three approaches. Multinational corporations operate across many countries, and each country has its own laws and cultures and also diverse ethical practices and social norms. • 41. The Discovery Of Gold And Australia The discovery of gold in Australia dramatically changed the course of our steadily developing country. The gold rush massively impacted every aspect of the nation, although not all these changes were positive. With the gold rush came the introduction of more diverse culture, increased population and infrastructure. Before the 1850 s, Australia was a prison colony meant as a punishment for convicts of the British. However, in just the fifty years after the beginning of the Australian gold rush, Australia became an independent country. From a wilderness inhabited by convicts to a free and federated nation in less than half a century. Without the gold rush, our society wouldn t be what it is today. The discovery of gold sparked a massive influx of immigration to the still forming country of Australia. During the very early years of the gold rush, NSW and Victoria were the centre for gold mining and attracted thousands of hopeful diggers. This rapid introduction of new people had many impacts on Australian society. People came from different points of the world to mine on Australia s gold rich fields. The majority of were British but many others came from Germany, Italy, France, China and even America. This created a rich multicultural melting pot that would forever forge a highly diverse population. A repercussion of a sudden influx of multiculturalism was the targeting of a group of foreigners that attracted particular attention. These were the Chinese; as their numbers began ... • 42. The Identity of an American Puerto Rican Essay The Identity of an American Puerto Rican Am I American or Puerto Rican , a question that wanders along the halls of my mind all the time? Many Puerto Ricans might not agree, but I feel that I am, American , Puerto Rican American that is. As a child my own parents deprived me of my culture and true identity. They spoke to me in a language that many Puerto Ricans refused or detested to learn, English. The only thing I can actually say that I know about Puerto Rican heritage is the comida we shared during family gatherings. In Spanish the words are habichuelas con arroz; in English, rice and beans; and in any language they translate into the food staples of island life (p. 59, Fernandez). Though my readings can contradict such happy memories, I will soon talk about the political, economic, social relations and identity issues that Puerto Ricans had to encounter after the Spanish American War and during the United States invasion and how it affected Puerto Ricans then and now. The political status, who cares about politics and its status? Well many Puerto Ricans did when the United States invaded it. There were so many issues about the island wanting to be self governed. According to Fernandez, others wanted statehood, while still others adamantly opposed the inclusion of the statehood ideal in any Union platform; to paraphrase one protester, the United States was able to deny Puerto Rico both statehood and self government. That was its right. But it was not able to deny the island its independence because that was a right of the Puerto Rican people (p. 43). Still, until present day the island is indecisive about becoming a state or staying a commonwealth or even being independent. After the Spanish American War Puerto Ricans had more of a decision to make about what they wanted to do with themselves. They weren t under Spanish rule anymore, but inherited the American Government to help with certain affairs, though, cries for help were sometimes ignored. For example, on August 12, 1907, Jose De Diego stopped at Oyster Bay to once again plead for more self government . When the petition was duly filed and, like ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. A History Of Christmas In The 19th Century The History of Christmas in America In the first half of the 19th century, Christmas was a very different kind of holiday than it is today. People did not have a set way of celebrating. Christmas was not even an official holiday yet. So, communities around the country honored the day in different ways. Some observed Christmas as an important Christian religious day, honoring the birth of Jesus. Others celebrated the day with parties, music, drinking and eating. And, some communities did not celebrate the day at all. But, it was during the early 1800s that Americans began to reinvent the holiday. They started combining ancient Christmas traditions with modern American influences. Shirley Griffith and Steve Ember tell the story. In 1819, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Louisiana was the first state to make the move in 1837. By 1860, 14 other states had followed. It was not until 1870 that President Ulysses Grant made Christmas a federal holiday. Americans already knew old Christmas songs that came from England and other areas of Europe. But many new American Christmas songs started to become popular. For example, in 1849, a religious leader from Massachusetts wrote the words to It Came Upon a Midnight Clear. The song Jingle Bells appeared seven years later. And, a year later, a religious leader in Williamsport, Pennsylvania wrote the song We Three Kings of Orient Are. And of course, no discussion of Christmas would be complete without talking about of one of the holiday s most famous representations: Santa Claus. This character is based on the story of Saint Nicholas, a Christian holy person believed to have lived in the third century. Saint Nicholas became known as a protector of children. In his role as a Christmas hero, different cultures have given him different names. These include Sinterklaas, Kris Kringle and Father Christmas. They depended on the food that they hunted and gathered. These societies didn t have an efficient system of obtaining food. The men and women both spent their time searching for food, which could ve showed gender equality. Searching for food could be dangerous for these people because they could be attacked/killed by animals or even humans. They were demographically small and always on the move, they did not build permanent shelters or dwellings and had few personal possessions. • 45. Paul Lawrence Intrinsic And Extrinsic Motivation Paul Lawrence Paul Lawrence theory explains about the human nature and it describes about the four factors that will affect the human nature and these factors are bond ,acquire, learn and defend. These factors also called drives but the question is this what drives an individual.Every individual has several drives but all drives cannot be satisfied at a time. The first drive is acquire, and it describes how a human improve his status by acquiring experiences and it is very common. It describes how human compete with others in his life like employees of the same company have competitions with other employees for different positions and salary. Next is bonding,as it is very important in making relationships .The bond is considered to be strong as it will make by mutual understanding and sharing.Employees working in a group have the advantage of managing the organization in a better way. The third factor is drive to learn and it describes that if a human has willingness of learning the things in the environment then he will come to know that how things are working .If he has a job then he has the opportunity of developing his knowledge in his field. The fourth factor is defend,it describes how humans protect themselves if they feel any harm on their believes and experiences Motivation concepts Its necessary to know about what motivates an individual. There are two concepts for this intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. The purpose is to know about what factors motivates an ... • 46. How The Atoms Are Arranged Within A Molecule Description When we just look at the molecular formula, we don t know how the atoms are arranged within a molecule. Different arrangements of atoms are possible in one formula and these are called structural isomers, which we will focus on for this lesson. !!!Structural Isomers Did you love playing with building blocks when you were young? I remember taking the blocks apart and putting them back together. Each time, I create different shapes and structures, all the while, using the same set of blocks. Let us think of atoms in a molecular formula as building blocks. __Molecular formulas__ tell us how many atoms of each element there are in a molecule. Just like the building blocks, these atoms can be bonded together in different ways. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So, we can say that butane and isobutane are structural isomers. !!!Types of Structural Isomers and Examples Now that we know what structural isomers mean, let s discuss the different types of structural isomers. These are chain isomers, functional group isomers and positional isomers. !!Chain Isomers __Chain isomers__ are a type of structural isomers that differ in terms of the branches in their carbon chains. For chain isomers, we can imagine removing one carbon and its attachments in a chain and sticking it together with another carbon within the chain. For instance, for pentane, which has a molecular formula of C sub 5 H sub 12 , has three different chain isomers. In the illustration below, it shows that pentane and isopentane are chain isomers of each other. The CH sub 3 group (circled in red) of pentane is switched with a hydrogen atom on the carbon chain. Once this is done, it produces a chain isomer, isopentane. Pentane and Isopentane Are Chain Isomers Below, we can see another chain isomer of pentane, which is neopentane. Neopentane results from switching the CH sub 3 on the left and the H atom (circled in red) with each other, and the other CH sub 3 group on the right and the H atom (circled in blue). RELAY NETWORK OPTIMAL DESIGN OF DISTRIBUTED CONCATENATED ALAMOUTI CODES Yuchen Cao Professor: Yanwu Ding Department of EECS, Wichita State University, KS, US ABSTRACT In this project, Based on uniquely factorable constellation pair (UFCP) and space time block code (STBC), a novel distributed concatenated Alamouti code is devised for a one way relaying network consisting of two end nodes with each having a single antenna and one relay node equipped with two antennas. Allowing the terminal nodes and the relay node to transmit their own information concurrently at the bit level, and turns the equivalent channel between the two end nodes into a product of two Alamouti channels. thus, called UFCP concatenated Alamouti space time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the relay nodes in currently available relay networks with distributed STBCs just passively forward whatever they have received from the source node to the destination without being able to transmit their own information. The conventional strategy to realize information sharing is accomplished by allocating orthogonal sub channels to relay such as time slots or frequency bands, operating virtually at a packet level. This leads to significant delay. Despite the fact that this method may work well for some networks with long coherence time, it will not be applicable to a certain of strictly constrained delay systems. Motivated by all the aforementioned facts, in this paper, we consider a one way relaying network consisting of two single antenna terminals and one relay having two antennas. Our main objective is to design a new distributed STBC for the network that allows the source node and relay node to transmit information simultaneously at the bit level. The primary idea of achieving this goal is to properly make use of the recently developed concept of UFCP and the Alamouti coding scheme at the relay node. The significant advantage of this novel code design is the optimal ML detector is equivalent to a bit by bit detector. 2.
