The Alchemist Reflection
Following your heart will set you apart
Have you ever imagined completing a task using only your heart and not being able to rely on other
people, just your heart? In The Alchemist Santiago has a dream he knows he needs to follow and he
knows he can t rely on other people in order to achieve it. In the novel, The Alchemist, by Paulo
Coelho, Santiago learns, Remember where your heart is, there you will find your treasure. First of all,
Santiago works hard with help along the way. Second of all, Santiago has a positive outlook on life.
Last, Santiago accepts things the way they come.
First of all, Santiago works hard with help along the way. For example, while Santiago is sulking
because a thief stole his money outside of a restaurant in Tangier, he remembers the wise words of the
King. Santiago doesn t want to give up and realizes that if he goes for his dream the universe will help
him: When you want something, all the universe conspires to help you achieve it (24). Instead of
sulking, he was more positive by being reminded of the king s wise words that motivate him. Santiago
was dwelling on the fact his money was stolen and had the mindset that it was over for him but then
when he is reminded of the king s words he is more motivated to continue his journey. Finally, this is
important because the King was beneficial to Santiago by giving him these wise words, and as a
result, Santiago is reminded of these words and feels more motivated. To conclude, Santiago

Macromolecules In Water Lab
Abstract: In this lab, we investigated the reason as to why our fingers prune up when we go swimming
or anything that has to with keeping our hands in water for a while. Six cut pairs of dialysis tubing (12
cm) were placed in water for five minutes so that it would form. After it was done forming, we filled it
with three different types of NaCl concentration solutions,(1%,10%, and 50%). We placed the six
different dialysis tubing filled with the solutions and placed it into the 400 mL beakers with either the
1%, 10%, or 50% for forty minutes. At the end we calculated the weight difference of each dialysis
tube to determine how water moves across the skin when soaked in water.
Hypothesis: The dialysis tube will lose water based on how much time the cell ... Show more content

Mark the ends of the tube with a Sharpie.
Use the three colors for the three NaCl solutions.
Close the other end with the rubber bands.
Repeat steps 3 4: Fill two tubes with 10% NaCl.
Repeat steps 3 4: Fill 1 tube with 50% NaCl.
Weigh each of the tubes/cells. Record on the chart.
3. Label a 500mL beaker with 50% NaCl and fill it with 400mL of the 50%
NaCl solution.
4. Label three 500mL beakers with 1% NaCl and fill them with 400mL of the
1% NaCl solution.
5. Place one 10% NaCl cell into the 400mL of 50% NaCl solution.
6. Place the 1%, 10%, and 50% NaCl cells into each of the three 400mL NaCl solutions. 7. Wait 40
minutes.
8. Remove the cells, one by one, and weigh. Record the weights on the chart, for each solution.
Results: As we have just presented/ demonstrated, via data, the cell concentration and solution
concentration had an decrease in weight. The cause of the decrease of
NaCl (cell solution), the osmosis was the effect on this. Osmosis is the movement of water molecules
across a selectively permeable membrane. The net movement of water molecules through a partially
permeable membrane from a solution of higher potential to an area of low water potential. Placing the

According To Ward Goodenough s The Interpretation Of Culture
One of the most significant and controversial elements found within the study of music is the
representation of culture. Although the definition of representation according to Merriam Webster is a
person or group that speaks or acts for or in support of another person or group, it is not as easily said
than done. The true act of representing another is both incredibly complex and challenging as it
contains many subjective variables. History, for example, has demonstrated the complexity of defining
what is true representation through the presence of leaders and authoritative figures who have failed to
truthfully represent the common man. As a result, the people who have no outlet for expression are
represented unjustly by those who do. Similarly, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, culture has become more located in the discussion and ways in which demonstrate such
complexity than truly demonstrating the complexities of man. It is presumed that in order for true
representation to exist, it must be complex and contain many variables in order to be true. One of the
most prominent questions surrounding representation in ethnography is how to convey complexity,
especially in a culture that is so vast. But if complexity becomes the root of representation, then
representation can very easily become fixated over how to cover all aspects of a culture and to focus
more on the scientific analysis and processes of articulating the traditions found within a culture than
the actual people found within the culture. Complexity, although still a significant factor in
representation, can lead to an deviation away from what the true focus of representation should be: the
people. Even though representation does indeed contain many complex factors and unanswered
questions, the focus of a study should not centralize solely on how to answer such questions. The
complexity of representation should instead be found within the thick descriptions of what can be
simply answered: the emotions and beliefs of the people. The only form of complexity found within
representation should be found within the thick descriptions of man, By doing so, the complexities of
man becomes the focus of what true representations involves instead of the complexity of
representation in and of itself. Therefore, representation is and should be a connection to the people:
the source of what truly should be represented in the study of any

Up To 1775 Essay
Economics Up to 1775* Cultivation of Tobacco was the basis of America s early economy; shortly
after, later economy weaved and meshed with the British Empire s on heavily voluminous levels, and
their relationship was strongly based on various Acts placed upon the Colonies. After acquiring seeds
from Trinidadian colonies, John Rolfe s plantation of the tobacco plant caused the first real economic
presence by selling them to European countries. The Tobacco plant was the first true cash crop of
America, imports from their mother country England were reaching to about half a million pounds per
year. The Navigation Acts of 1651 prohibited any foreign ships, with an emphasis on the Dutch, into
British Colonies in relation to trade. The British Kingdom believed that for America to be a stable
country, their exports should outnumber their imports. The Kingdom was just recovering from a brutal
recession, and they were determined to make sure that their rivals, the Dutch, be absent of a trading
relation with the Colonies. The Molasses Act of 1733 was one of the first Acts that ironically brought
in a boom of smuggling into the colonies. It issued that any molasses imported from any country other
than the British Colonies would have a six pence per gallon tax placed upon it. This act was created
mainly due to the urging of large plantation owners in the British West Indies. The Currency Act of
1751 blocked the production of paper money by New England colonies. This was to

Michelangelo and the Sistine Chapel Research Paper Michelangelo was and still is a famous painter
and sculptor from the 1400 s to the 1500 s. One of his most popular works is the Sistine Chapel, it was
created in between 1508 to 1512. The Sistine Chapel is among one of the most famous interior
paintings in the world. Many doubted hoped that he would fail not be able to do so because they did
not believe that he fit the part. The Sistine Chapel ceiling was originally painted blue with golden stars
up until 1508 when Michelangelo was called upon to redecorate the ceiling. Many people thought and
hoped that he would fall flat on his face with the project due to the fact that he was more well known
as a sculpture, even Michelangelo thought the same thing about himself and at first refused to do so,
however he later agreed to paint the chapel when Julius agreed to let him paint it with his own idea
rather than others. It is now one of the most famous painted ceilings in the world. I also believe that
another reason he chose to accomplish this task was to prove himself and others wrong, which he
indeed did. The ceiling is made up of smaller frescoes, and the main section of the chapel ceiling was

An Analysis Of Susan Glaspell s Trifles
A Love Gone Bad A woman who was once full of life and happiness is now left with no joy in her life.
In the play, Trifles by Susan Glaspell, we see how Mrs. Wright has changed over the years. We see
how cheerful she was before marrying Mr. Wright. While trying to solve the murder, the author uses
symbolism, conflict, and irony. The are many examples of conflict in this play. The most apparent
conflict is that between the men and the women in the play. In the first parts of the investigation, the
sheriff is already showing his feelings towards women. Well, can you beat the woman! Held for
murder and worryin about her preserves (Glaspell). To Mr. Peters, the concerns of women mean
nothing. Even Mr. Hale s view of the women is crude. Well, women are used to worrying over trifles
(Glaspell). Mr. Hale even thinks that what the women are worried about isn t important. The county
attorney is also in conflict with the ladies in the story. Mr. Henderson can t even dry his hands without
finding some excuse to talk bad about Mrs. Wright. Dirty towels (Glaspell). Not much of a
housekeeper, would you say ladies (Glaspell). In the eyes of Mr. Henderson, the women are nothing
more than housekeepers. Mrs. Hale doesn t see things the way the men do. There s a great deal of
work to be done on a farm (Glaspell). She wasn t only defending Mrs. Wright when she said this but
also defending herself and Mrs. Peters. She knows that the job of a housewife is a lot more than just

Sullivan
Not only did Sullivan aesthetically use masonry in bank construction to impact modernism, but he
also used elaborate ornamentation. Notably, the use of ornamentation, in the way that Sullivan
grandiosely applied it, grew less and less by other architects during his time. However, Sullivan
noticed the importance of savoring aesthetic ornamentation, terra cotta decorative features , in
architecture and applied it to most of his buildings in varying degrees, but especially to his bank
designs (Karwatka 9). In fact Dankmar Adler, Sullivan s business partner for a time, felt Sullivan
displayed artistic intelligence unequaled by himself and soon delegated aesthetic matters to Sullivan
because Sullivan possessed a genius ability to fus[e] technology and artistic expression (Lewis 52;
Meyer 6). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One architectural critic, Thomas Tallmadge, did notice Sullivan s proper use of ornamentation in his
bank designs and praised Sullivan for giv[ing] the little [bank] a gemlike quality that glows (Meyer

his push for functionality because banks held the monetary treasure of society; thus, it follows suit that
banks should carry a form that resembles their protection of the peoples treasure within. Therefore,
ornamentation, as Sullivan used it, contributed to the modern idea of functionality. Additionally
through his unique use of ornamentation on financial buildings, Sullivan encouraged a modern
repulsion to the feudal system

Informative Essay On Cottontail Rabbitss
The cottontail rabbit, or Sylvilagus floridanus, is one of the most common mammals in North
America. Largely known for terrorizing gardens and melting children s hearts, this animal is
considered a pest among some and a harmless critter among others. The cottontail is known for its tall
ears, powerful hind legs, and of course, its trademark cotton white tail. Its fur will come in all shades
of gray and brown, and it can grow to be up to three and a half pounds. I am proposing a twenty year
study of the cottontail rabbit to learn how different impacts on the rabbits world will affect their
natural selection process. First, my study will consist of a of a fenced off ten acres of land free from
human impact. This will be a place where there is already an establish population of cottontail rabbits.

A female cottontail, or doe, can have her first litter after only a year of age, and she can have up to
four litters a year. This means that by the time a doe is caring for her last litter of the season, offspring
from her first litter may be tending to their own babies. While cottontail litters are relatively large,
consisting of three to eight young, a sparse number will survive to adulthood. Many are lost to
predators such as dogs and cats. Others die from a flaw in nest building. The way a mother doe builds
a nest makes it very susceptible to filling with water. Entire litters are lost when this happens, as the
blind, deaf, and furless baby rabbits drown in their own refuge. Even when cottontails do survive long
enough to leave the nest, many are killed within their first year. While this may seem like a tragedy, it
is a harsh fact of life for cottontails. During the first year, I will examine how the natural losses in
young affect the mother rabbits. I will also pay close attention to how many of the cottontails survive
the entire first

Iron In Ancient China
Iron was first found being used in about 5000 B.C. in Mesopotamia. But the Chinese started to use it
in 1500 B.C. Iron revolutionised the ancient chinese warfare and created strong trade relationships.
The chinese switched from using bronze to iron in 1500 BC. They switched because there was an
abundance of it and it was also stronger than bronze in some cases. Iron allowed the chinese to make
items that were much more durable. Iron a lot harder to smelt but when placed in a smelter with two
percent carbon generated by the fire it would make one of the strongest substances on earth. The level
of mastery of this skill of melting iron shows how advanced this civilization really was. Iron made

Argumentative Essay On Wolfdogs
A wolf dog hybrid is just what the name states: a cross between a wolf and a domesticated dog. They
are a breed that attempts to add a wild side to man s best friend. Imagine giving a belly rub to a wolf,
it sounds fun and exciting. However, seeing that they are part wild animal, wolfdogs create a lot of
problems. Many wolfdogs are dangerous and cause harm to their owners and end up either being put
down or badly abused. Would it be better for everyone if wolfdogs are not allowed as pets or even
bred in the first place?
As previously stated, wolf dog hybrids can be very dangerous. During a wolf s adolescence there is a
great increase in hormones, thus causing their wild animal instincts and behaviors to kick in.
Furthermore, physical and mental maturity happen at different rates for dogs and wolves, this makes it
hard to predict when a hybrid will come to that full maturity. Hybrids are known for being
unpredictable. In 2003, Koa, a 1½ year old hybrid from Idaho, was euthanized after killing a 13 month
old boy. Despite the fact that this was not Koa s first time injuring a child, it still came as a shock
since Koa was said to be good natured. When asked ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 2000 the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a report on the different breeds
of dogs involved in fatal human attacks in the United States between 1979 and 1998. According to the

Rottweilers were involved in 122 of these deaths. Pit Bulls were involved in 22 American deaths in
2016 alone. It seems that hybrids aren t the big problem here. If other breeds of dangerous dogs, such
as Pit Bulls, are considered acceptable as pets, then why not wolfdogs? Raising and owning a wolfdog
is not for the inexperienced or faint hearted, however it can be done. If cared for and trained properly,
a hybrid could turn out to be an enjoyable

Labor Unions And The American Labor Relations Act Of...
Before the 1930s, labor unions had little to no voice in the contracts of industrialized companies.
Labor Unions are organizations of workers whose primary objectives are to improve the pecuniary and
nonpecuniary conditions or employment among their members (Ehrenberg Smith, pg. 451). The
Christian Labour Association of Canada (CLAC) and the United Automobiles Workers (UAW) are
different unions in Canada and the Unites States. Even though they have some similarities, the two
groups have many differences as well. Some similarities include how they bargain and negotiate.
However, they differ in the type of union, what they stand for, how large they are, why and when they
started, and what they negotiate for. Unions were finally able to form in the Unites States because the
National Labor Relations Act of 1935 passed, which required employers to bargain with unions that
represented the majority of their employees (Ehrenberg Smith, pg. 453). Because of the National
Labor Relations Act, unions could legally form and be recognized by employers. The United
Automobiles Workers (UAW) began in May of 1935 in Detroit, Michigan. Initially, 200 delegates
from different automobile companies met in Detroit to establish the UAW, and its power over
negotiating strengthen just a few years after forming. The UAW created a union for auto plant
workers, which made them an industrial union. The UAW represents different types of workplaces
from multinational corporations, small

The Good, The Bad And The Ugly
The Good, The Bad And The Ugly
A genre in a film uses familiar story formulas, character types, settings and all of which lead viewers
to have a certain perception about what the movie will be like before actually watching it
(Goodykoontz, B., Jacobs, 2014). In many instances, genres produce an explanation of the film.
Evidently, this paper focuses on westerns as the main theme; this movie depicts notions of molarity
tales, ironic tales and describes the notion of a classical look of the old western times. Additionally,
this film genre has portrayed much about America s past, glorifying the past fading values and
aspirations of the mythical by gone age of the West. Over time, westerns have been re defined, re
invented and expanded, dismissed, re discovered, and spoofed. However, most western movie ideas
derived from characteristics known to the Native Americans and Mexicans way before the American
culture knew about it. They are many misrepresentations of cultures and races shown throughout
movies from as early as 1920 s with silent films. Although one could argue that silent film era was
more politically correct than today s films, the movie industry still continues at times to misrepresent
cultures and their lifestyles in films known as, western films.
In representation of this genre, I have chosen The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. After watching this
movie, it has allowed a closer focus at the stereotypes and generalizations that are being depicted in
various ways

Mary Shelley s Frankenstein and Ridley Scott s Blade Runner
Comparison and Contrast
Introduction
Mary Shelley s Frankenstein and Ridley Scott s Blade Runner are two story lines created in a different
era, Frankenstein being an early published novel on the creation of an experimental monster that longs
to have a normal existence whilst Blade Runner is a more modern take to a future society where there
have been genetically engineered robots named replicas that are in appearance indistinguishable from
human beings which choose to escape to the planet earth in search of extending their life spans.
The comparison of similarities between the two stories begins with the most simple and obvious being

To contrast the two stories is relatively simple; the two films share forms of differences in era and a
basic human acceptance. Starting with era, Frankenstein is an early production/novel in which
scientifically a creature is created and serves as a warning how something that could prove well in
future can itself turn drastically wrong. This is also shown in the film Blade Runner providing a
simplicity for humans turns wrong with the creation of the replica robots being used as an ease in
which they get sick of and in turn escape to humanity having only a 4 year life span in which they try
to find a way to extend. This is different to Frankenstein s approach choosing instead to learn of
humanity and tries finding a way to be accepted instead of trying to merge and hide in humanity.
The human acceptance between both films is significantly different but in turn not so much,
Frankenstein for example is unaccepted because of his physical appearance and general attitude to the
human community for their reactions against him, whilst the replicas from the film Blade Runner are
accepted as they look and act alike to human beings which from a regular human their differences
would be hard to distinguish. Frankenstein is unaccepted in human

How The Bad Boys Changed In The 1980s
Physical. Violent. Ruthless. These are all words that can describe the 1980s Detroit Pistons team. At
the time, the NBA was very physical with imposing big men and low scoring games. The players on
the Bad Boys not only symbolized basketball at the time but the world during the 1980s. Players such
as Dennis Rodman, Isiah Thomas, and Joe Dumars may gain recognition but players like John Salley,
Bill Laimbeer, and Rick Mahorn were all important cogs to how the Bad Boys changed and influenced
basketball and the world. Although their style of play and brusque mannerisms rubbed the opposition
and fans the wrong way, the Bad Boys will always be remembered and discussed in basketball lore
and culture. (Morris, Benjamin) The bad boys were more than just villains in sports. In the 1980s,
teams like Detroit Pistons and Oakland Raiders were known for their gritty and nasty style of play. .

Harriet Tubman And The Underground Railroad
The underground railroad is a secret network for helping slaves escape from the South to the North
and to Canada in the years before the Civil War ( Oxford Dictionaries | The World s Most Trusted
Dictionary Provider ). It is called this because although the Underground Railroad was neither
underground, or a railroad, the system worked in a similar fashion to a railroad( Fast Facts The
Underground Railroad ). The passengers followed a route; there were many stops; a conductor led the
way, which explains the railroad part( Fast Facts The Underground Railroad ). It was underground
because it had to be a secretive operation in order to succeed, and the runaway slaves often had to hide
to stay safe( Fast Facts The Underground Railroad ). It is said to have started around 1830 and went on
until 1865, the end of slavery in the United States and it was formed as a convergence of various
clandestine efforts. There were people who guided the fugitive slaves, known as conductors . One of
the more famous conductors was Harriet Tubman. Many others, who wanted slavery to end, also
known as abolitionists, participated in helping slaves make their way to freedom. Hiding places
included private homes, churches, and schoolhouses, called stations, safe houses, and depots, and are

The Anshe Chesed Fairmount Temple
On October 29, 2016, I visited the Anshe Chesed Fairmount Temple which offers services regarding
the religion of Judaism. Although I don t identify as religious, I was originally raised as Roman
Catholic, even going to a private catholic elementary school. I ve always had somewhat of an interest
in Judaism as it s believed to be among one of the oldest existing religions in the world along with
Hinduism. The service I visited is referred to as the Shabbat Morning Service , which took place from
11:00 AM 12:15 PM. The word Shabbat is Hebrew which is one of the primary languages associated
with Judaism. In English, it translates to Sabbath which is primarily a day of religious observance and

Mass Shootings Analysis
According to Why the US has the most mass shootings The United States makes up one third of all
global massacres. Lankford has found that attacks from mentally ill citizens has tripled from 2011 to
2014. During that time period it was averaged to have an attack every 64 days. Some researchers
believed mass killings to be contagious; one killing increasing the chance of others to occur in two
weeks. This phenomenon is more likely because guns are more accessible in The United States,
compared to other countries. The statistics do show that more restrictive gun laws make a difference.
Australia, for example, had four mass shootings between 1987 and 1996. After those incidents
Parliament passed stricter gun laws and Australia hasn t had a mass

The Crimes Of The Person Act ( Oapa 1861 )
In 1861, the Offences Against the Person Act (OAPA 1861) was introduced to give distinction
between various criminal acts towards other people. However, from its inception it has created the
requirements for defences for the numerous offences. One of the most complex of these is the defence
of consent, the one to be considered here. With regard to this problem, it is necessary to identify any
crime that has been committed, examine how consent will apply and analyse how satisfactory the law
is on this topic. I will first discuss what crimes Wilbur has committed followed by whether he can
indeed use the defence of consent before finishing with my own thoughts on the law and how this area
could possibly benefit from reform.
Under s.20 of the OAPA 1861, Wilbur has committed the crime of Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH)
against Ewan. Despite only meaning to cause bruising which would count as battery, Wilbur has
caused a much more serious offence in GBH albeit unintentionally. Wilbur did not mean to cause
GBH but s.20 of the above act enables him to be charged for GBH without meaning it, as it brings a
recklessness element into play. Under s.20, the defendant must have the intention or be reckless as to
the causing of some harm. There is no need for the prosecution to establish that they intended or was
reckless as to causing serious harm. In the case of DPP v Smith , grievous bodily harm was defined as
really serious harm, which the ripping off of two fingers definitely satisfies.

My Grandpa Research Paper
As my grandfather looked out into the dread filled ocean, it was then that he realised there was no
going back. Once he stepped foot onto that aircraft carrier he felt worried and feared he would not
come back. This was the only thing that my grandpa ever told me about his past in the Korean War.
However, it also got me intrigued in the United States Armed Forces. As he passed away, I just wished
I would have asked him about the stories he must of had about the war and friends he met there. I was
scared he would agonize about the traumas he had. After his death, we went through photo books of
him and founds photos of him on the U.S.S Hancock. Seeing those pictures of him as a Gunner Mate
sparked an interest in the military and what it had to offer.
My grandpa, (J.W. Croney), was an excellent man and has given me much insight of what to become
in the future. He was the one who gave me goals, but also gave me rules. He always wanted for his
grandkids to do the best we could even if he could not express that. He is a prime example of someone

What Is The Similarities Between The Greek And Roman...
Each building, especially, the historical ones has a function, for which it was built, and a style carried
with messages to convey for the people. The Greek and the Roman buildings are the best examples of
the buildings, which tells a lot about their cultures. So, this essay will discuss two buildings from the
ancient eras, their differences, and similarities. The first one is the Parthenon in Athens while the other
is the Pantheon in ancient Rome. Also, it will explain how the style and use of these buildings served
as a typical example of their culture. The Pantheon is a Roman temple, and it was built in 125 CE in
the reign of Hadrian. Although it is one of the best preserved Roman monuments in the world, the
Pantheon, we see in these days, is the third one. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So, the Romans, using it in such an important temple, wanted to talk about their strength, architectural
skills, and ability to innovate.
Moving to the other building swiftly, the Parthenon in Athens is a Greek temple. It was built in 432
B.C. in the Age of Pericles. Hence, it was built when the Athenian Empire was at the top of its power.
The word
Parthenon was derived from Athena epithets: Athena Parthenos, which means Virgin. (Cartwright,
2012).
Personally, I believe that the name is a genius choice as the temple was constructed for the sake of the
goddess
Athena.
Moreover, since the Parthenon mixed different Greek orders, namely the Doric and Ionic, it is the best
example to show how the Greeks could produce such a stunning temple. The materials they used were
not limited to marble and bronze. They used gold and ivory in lavish amounts for the sculpture of their
goddess, as well. There is too much important symbolism in these two buildings. However, from the
aforementioned information, I can say that the similarities between these two buildings are many.
They could be the purpose of their constructing as they both were temples and the messages of the
strength, authority, ability, and wealth

The Cultural Heritage Of Syria
I intend to concentrate on the cultural heritage of Syria throughout the duration of this report, however
the the massive losses in life and property incurred over the course of the now five year long Civil
War in Syria is a major factor in the discussion in regards to what remains, and what has been
destroyed, among Syria s tangible cultural heritage in the form of monuments, historical architecture,
and various other pieces of art1. The tangible heritage that remains in the region effected by the Syrian
Civil War is testament to thousands of years of culture, history and civilization, which must be
protected and efforts must be put forth in its preservation. However, this heritage was built by the
ancestors of those who have gone, and is a symbol of past peoples. Those who remain however, are
suffering from the onslaughts of both terrorist groups one one hand, and are the victims of conflict
between the Free Syrian Army and the forces of President Bashar Al Asad2. It is a logistical and moral
quagmire to divert and commit forces to either one or the other, to protect them both from the
destruction in the ongoing conflict. Should international and local military focus and effort emphasize
the protection of priceless artifacts that are irreplaceable assets for the Syrian people and the world at
large? Or should focus instead be diverted to protecting internally displaced persons in the region, as
well as those entrenched in areas with intense fighting?

The Consequences Of The Nature In Jack London sTo Build A...
[1] As depicted in Jack London s To Build a Fire, the Yukon proves to be a truly formidable wasteland.
The barren environment is comprised solely of unbroken white (London 65), the sun refuses to shine,
and, most saliently, the temperature measures 107 degrees below freezing. These factors render the
Yukon a harsh place through which to travel, especially as a lone voyager like the man, the story s
central character. Survival, however, is possible, and the man s success in this wilderness hinges
critically upon his ability to know more than just the facts of the Yukon. The man must imagine the
consequences of his actions. [2] London wastes no time informing the reader that the man s greatest
weakness is, in fact, his inability to imagine. In the work s opening paragraphs, we learn of the Yukon
s gray (London 64) austerity, indescribable darkness (London 64), and great cold (London 65). Yet,
what follows in a stark juxtaposition is that these conditions had no effect on the man and that the
trouble with him was that he was not able to imagine (London 65). Through this opening, London
establishes a framework by which the Yukon will test the man s ability to imagine the implications his
surroundings and actions entail. In To Build a Fire, the dog an embodiment of the Yukon environment
itself serves to illuminate how the man is quick and ready in the things of life (London 65), but fails to
imagine the consequences of his actions. As evidenced by the

Case Study Between Push And Pull System
Problem statement:
It is notify here that when a production system runs by the adoption of entire Push system , then it
leads to the maximum inventory holding cost and minimum lost sale cost. It also represents the
inflexibility of the manufacturing environment in terms of less variety of products. On the other hand,
if it works entirely on Pull system , then it results in the maximum lost sale cost and minimum
inventory holding costs for a manufacturing environment. Also, lead times are more in terms of delays
in Pull system . So, it is required to create the balance between these costs. For this, our study
compiles with the minimization of lost sale and holding cost by the implementation of Push Pull
system which is the integration of both Push and Pull systems in a single manufacturing environment.
When it is the matter of the production line, then it is also very important that how long has been the
system is running, keeping in view the number of workers required. It is very important that how

Although the product itself is purchased from various producers across the United States and Mexico
(Edgar, 2015), Sanfilippo s manufacturing site for its pecan products demonstrates a well informed
decision making choice.
As a seasonally based product capable of being stored for up to 5 years based on storage conditions,
Sanfilippo could have realistically chosen any location within the US. After beginning its pecan
location in a small store front in Chicago (Sanfilippo, 2012), the company expanded in 1991 to
multiple locations strategic to the product produced. The Selma, Texas location used primarily to
produce pecans supports storage of the in shell product in an environmentally stable geographic

decision making criteria with low labor and transportation costs, energy costs, low union labor
participation impacting labor and management costs (Kalantari, 2013).

On a daily basis, a dental hygienist will try to make their patients as comfortable as possible, prepare

Real time systems have become more sophisticated and complex in their behavior and interaction over
the time.Contemporaneously, researchers from both industry and academia are turning their focus to
multiprocessor architectures to handle these sophisticated systems and since then, prevailed in many

of single core platforms. However, multiprocessor architectures still have certain challenges that must

Energy efficiency is also considered as another challenge for multiprocessor real time systems to
ensure energy availability while maintaining assurance that timing constraints will be met.
Multiprocessor scheduling algorithms employ either a partitioned or global scheduling approach or
hybrids of the two. In the partitioning scheme, all the jobs of a task are executed on the same
processor [1]. In contrast, in the global strategy, any job of a task can be executed on any processor, or
even be preempted and moved to a different processor before it is completed [2]. Nevertheless,
parallelism is prohibited in both approaches, this means that, no job of any task can be executed at the
same time on more than one processor. Multiprocessor scheduling can be categorized into different
classes based on different criteria, i.e. homogeneous/heterogenous. On a homogeneous platform, all
processing cores are identical. Therefore, the execution rate of all tasks is the same among all
processors. Hence, the scheduling strategy only needs to concern the execution time of each task. On
the other side, on heterogeneous platform, the rate of execution of a task depends on both the core and
the task. This is due to the

Charles Dickens, a most well known and loved British author of a large number of works that are now
classics, was the foremost writer and public celebrity of the nineteenth century, he used his personal
experiences and hard times that he lived through as inspiration to write about his stories. During the
time of his career in writing, he wrote the well known and most loved classics, A Christmas Carol,
Oliver Twist, David Copperfield, Nicholas Nickleby, Great Expectations and A Tale of Two Cities.
Dickens became so famous that people would recognize him all over London as he walked around the

1865, Charles Dickens left his final work, The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This story tells of the transformation that Ebenezer Scrooge went through from a tight fisted tempered
person to a generous and friendly man. This is brought about by haunting visions at Christmas that
remind Scrooge of his happier days, until the generous spirit shows him misfortunes. This terrifies him
with urgent prospects if he should not change his ways ( Dickens ). He had no further intercourse with
Spirits, but lived upon the Total Abstinence Principle, ever afterwards; and it was always said of him,
that he knew how to keep Christmas well, if any man alive possessed the knowledge. May that be
truly said of us, and all of us! And so, as Tiny Tim observed, God Bless Us, Every One! (Dickens 92)
This is from the ending lines of A Christmas Carol and shows the moral lesson learned at the end of

Privacy Issues in the Banking Industry
Introduction
With the improvement of technology continuously growing every day, privacy has become one of the
most important issues in today s society. Privacy refers to one s right to control how your personal
information is collected and used by financial institutions. It is the financial institution s responsibility
to provide security to your personal information. Security refers to the obligation of the company that
collects and uses your information to ensure that your information is safe against unauthorized uses
(Privacy Rights Clearinghouse). For the banking industry, identity theft is a growing concern for
customer privacy. Identity theft can occur anywhere including the internet. The technology of online

The GLB Act, especially, was not designed to protect the consumers alone. Instead, I think it is
designed to protect both the business and consumer world. From a business perspective, it is important
to yield a net proftiprofit. When financial institutions share customer information with other affiliates,
it is with an objective of money making in mind. Hence to please the customer, the GLB Act added an
opt out option to its regulations for consumers if they do not want their information to be shared.
There is nothing else that a consumer can do to prevent financial institutions from sharing their
information. This loophole within the regulations that do not fully protect consumer privacy and does
not give the consumer total control over how their information is shared. The ability to protect one s
private information is limited. It places the burden on the consumer to protect their own privacy. And
they only have one option, which is to opt out .
With the GLB Act, banks and financial institutions are left on their own to develop an appropriate
security program that is suitable to the business . In the end, there are no standards to decide whether
the security program is suitable enough or not. The GLB Act alone only acts as a guideline for banks
to follow to cover privacy concerns instead of a mandatory rule to

Young woman is sitting on a plastic chair behind a table.
Its one of those I hate to say I told you so situations. I know, you warned me about him. You warned
me about him till you were blue in the face. But, you know, in some ways that made it all the more

The Fleece and Furkin, to watch King Adora. You remember? He bought me a vodka and orange, and

away, he would stay at ours. I adored him, I really did. It got so intense. And I just wanted to tell you,
all the things we did together. You d tell me about Paul, and about Derby. I just wanted to spill. God,

Violent Video Games Cause Violent Crime
The most frequently asked question in recent years is, do violent video games lead to violent crime?
Most people would think that the answer is a simple yes or no answer, but it s not. This type of
correlation is not all black and white; there is a lot of misconception and misunderstanding about it. In
this paper, I will be discussing the history of violent video games. I will include scientific studies done
on violent video games. I will include various crime cases involving video games. I will discuss the
effects of violent video games. Lastly, I will give possible solutions to prevent violent crime from
happening. There is a lot of history when it comes to video games and violent video games, but the
earliest violent video games have been around since the 1970s. In 1976, Death Race was the first
video game criticized for its violence. The goal of this game was to run over human like creatures
known as gremlins that made an unrealistic human screaming sound when struck. Since the 1970s,
everything has gone downhill. In the 1980s, beloved games we know today like Pac Man and Super
Mario Bros faced criticism for their cartoon violence. This is because of Pac Man killing the ghosts
and Mario attacking various enemies to achieve his goal to get to the next level. One of the first
graphic violent video games is Mortal Kombat; this game is a one on one fighting game where
realistic human characters usually fight to the death. Soon Mortal Kombat was under fire in 1992 for

Boo Radley Courage Quotes
Courage can mean being adventurous or doing something by yourself for the first time. Real courage
is having perseverance, determination and doing what you believe in. According to Atticus Finch in
Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird, real courage is when you know you re licked before you begin
but you begin anyway and see it through no matter what. Mrs. Dubose, Boo Radley, and Atticus show
their courage by never giving up when things get tough or being afraid of going against societal
norms. Mrs. Dubose, Boo Radley, and Atticus Finch demonstrate Atticus s definition of real courage
while teaching the Finch children important life lessons. Mrs. Dubose s determination during her fight
against her morphine addiction is something to be admired. Mrs. Dubose demonstrates courage by
overcoming her morphine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jem proves Mrs. Dubose s courage when he describes her after seeing her up close for the first time by
saying: but she s so nasty. She has fits or something. She spits a lot (124). This quote describes Mrs.
Dubose s will power; she perseveres through the negative side effects of quitting her addiction even
though she is very close to dying anyway. Jem does not know about Mrs. Dubose s sickness yet but
learns that everything is not always what it seems. From her front porch, Jem just sees her as a bitter
old lady however, once he gets close up to her he realizes what bad condition she is in and how frail
she is. The fact that Jem does not know about Mrs. Dubose s illness also shows her courage because
she is fighting her horrible illness without the support of her community. After Mrs. Dubose dies,
Atticus reveals that Mrs. Dubose wanted to die free and that she is the bravest person he has ever
known. During a conversation between Atticus and Jem, Atticus says I wanted you to see what real
courage is...It s when you know you re licked but you begin anyway... You rarely win but sometimes
you do. Mrs. Dubose won (128). This quote

The Process Of Deduction Logic
In social research, traditional and non traditional methods are used to explore and examine research
queries and relate methods of data collection and observation. One conventionally accepted method is
through deductive logic. Deductive logic is research that begins with a theory and arrives at a specific
expectation through a series of scientific steps. Both explanatory and exploratory techniques can be
used in deductive. In contrast, inductive methods, in which researchers examine specific data sets and
detect general patterns, are considered non traditional. In inductive logic, the identification of
empirical patterns result in a generalization about some social process (Schutt, 2012, p. 45).
The process of deduction logic begins with statements, also known as premises , that are assumed to
be true. A determination is made regarding additional factors that must be true if the premises are true.
A special logical structure, known as modus ponens, is a rule asserting that a hypothetical proposition
according to which if the antecedent be affirmed, the consequent is affirmed (Merriam Webster, 2015).
The form of any argument having the structure of modus ponens is as follows: Given P, if P then Q,
so, Q. Using this structure, any argument is stated as the major premise, the minor premise, and the
conclusion. In this way, the statements are evaluated in terms of validity and soundness.
The strength of deductive reasoning is its consideration of validity and

Ozone Pollution Essay
The Effects of Ozone Pollution
The term ozone has appeared in numerous magazine and newspaper articles and has been a subject of
discussion on both radio and television. Despite all the publicity surrounding this term, however,
many people are still confused by it. The confusion arises from the fact that ozone is both beneficial
and harmful. We know that the ozone layer in the upper atmosphere acts as a filter for the sun s
ultraviolet rays, reducing the amount of radiation that reaches the earth s surface. At ground level,
though, high concentrations of ozone can be harmful.
The Ozone Layer
Ozone gas forms a layer all around the earth high in the stratosphere. It serves as a vital and effective
protective barrier from the sun s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When levels are high, people at risk should take simple precautions:
Stay indoors as much as possible.
Limit outside activities to the early morning hours or after sunset. Ozone levels tend to go down with
the sun.
Refrain from exercising or working vigorously outdoors when levels are high.
Stay away from high traffic areas, and avoid exercising near these areas at all times.
Carpool or use public transportation to help reduce the amount of harmful emissions in the air that
contribute to the production of ozone.
Avoid using gasoline powered lawn equipment or other gasoline powered tools.
Big Differences
The distinction between the two ozone issues — the beneficial ozone layer versus ozone pollution — is
extreme. The ozone layer in the stratosphere needs to be protected. By the same token, ozone
produced by the effects of sunlight on air pollutants must be reduced.
Controlling air pollution will help solve both of these problems, thereby benefiting our health and

Wuthering Heights Childhood
The presentation of childhood is a theme that runs through two generations with the novel beginning
to reveal the childhood of Catherine and Hindley Earnshaw, and with the arrival of the young
Liverpudlian orphan, Heathcliff. In chapter four, Brontë presents Heathcliff s bulling and abuse at the
hands of Hindley as he grows increasingly jealous of Heathcliff for Mr. Earnshaw, his father, has
favoured Heathcliff over his own son, my arm, which is black to the shoulder the pejorative modifier
black portrays dark and gothic associations but also shows the extent of the abuse that Heathcliff as a
child suffered from his adopted brother. It is this abuse in childhood that shapes Heathcliff s attitudes
towards Hindley and his sadistic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Earnshaw became his adoptive father. A dirty ragged black haired child the triplication of pre
modifying adjectives carry pejorative connotations as Heathcliff had been living on the streets of
Liverpool therefore as he had been a homeless beggar, Nelly and the Linton s believed that he was not
fit for decent, well respect homes such as Wuthering Heights or Thrushcross Grange. The vocative
gypsy brat (Ch.4) also carries pejorative connotations as young Heathcliff is condemned by religious
folk and because he seemed to have no parents or a stable home, he was considered a bastard child
and a devil that bred bad feeling in the house
Hindley personified jealousy and cruelty as a child towards Heathcliff for he felt the gypsy was a
usurper of his parent s affections and his privileges so to carry out his revenge, he physically abused
Heathcliff I shall tell your father of the three thrashing you ve given me this week Heathcliff does not

Upcoming Movies Worth a Peak
7 Upcoming Movies That Are Worth a Peek
Compared with tons of movies that are action packed, this year is no different. As with an army
setting, this time it goes way beyond real life: it extends to science fiction, animation, and an advanced
lookout with science. With so many Hollywood movies to be released, which among them could be
interesting to watch? Here I compiled my own list, which of course may be entirely different to
another. Here I present my views on the following, from its trailers and info gathered.
7 Sci Fi series Transformers 4: Age of Extinction
Let s start off with a hit movie series, Transformers. Set 4 years after the previous movie, this is the
time when the Transformers are no longer needed, or more so, felt the need to wipe them out. Then all
the while, Optimus Prime was found by a struggling inventor. By that the latter convinces Optimus
Prime that he can still do something for mankind. This also featured the newest kind of Transformers,
the Dinobots, with Grimlock featured in the trailer as a T Rex. We can never be sure what kind of roles
they will play, so if one wants to find out first is to go see the movie for itself.
6 Romance The Fault in Our Stars
Following tons of previous books turned into movies, like the The Wolf of Wall Street , Hunger
Games trilogy and the more related to romance genre The Perks of Being a Wallflower . This seems to
be quite faithful to the book, though we ll have to see. On a lighter note, I do agree

  • 2. The Alchemist Reflection Following your heart will set you apart Have you ever imagined completing a task using only your heart and not being able to rely on other people, just your heart? In The Alchemist Santiago has a dream he knows he needs to follow and he knows he can t rely on other people in order to achieve it. In the novel, The Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho, Santiago learns, Remember where your heart is, there you will find your treasure. First of all, Santiago works hard with help along the way. Second of all, Santiago has a positive outlook on life. Last, Santiago accepts things the way they come. First of all, Santiago works hard with help along the way. For example, while Santiago is sulking because a thief stole his money outside of a restaurant in Tangier, he remembers the wise words of the King. Santiago doesn t want to give up and realizes that if he goes for his dream the universe will help him: When you want something, all the universe conspires to help you achieve it (24). Instead of sulking, he was more positive by being reminded of the king s wise words that motivate him. Santiago was dwelling on the fact his money was stolen and had the mindset that it was over for him but then when he is reminded of the king s words he is more motivated to continue his journey. Finally, this is important because the King was beneficial to Santiago by giving him these wise words, and as a result, Santiago is reminded of these words and feels more motivated. To conclude, Santiago ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Macromolecules In Water Lab Abstract: In this lab, we investigated the reason as to why our fingers prune up when we go swimming or anything that has to with keeping our hands in water for a while. Six cut pairs of dialysis tubing (12 cm) were placed in water for five minutes so that it would form. After it was done forming, we filled it with three different types of NaCl concentration solutions,(1%,10%, and 50%). We placed the six different dialysis tubing filled with the solutions and placed it into the 400 mL beakers with either the 1%, 10%, or 50% for forty minutes. At the end we calculated the weight difference of each dialysis tube to determine how water moves across the skin when soaked in water. Hypothesis: The dialysis tube will lose water based on how much time the cell ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 3. Label a 500mL beaker with 50% NaCl and fill it with 400mL of the 50% NaCl solution. 4. Label three 500mL beakers with 1% NaCl and fill them with 400mL of the 1% NaCl solution. 5. Place one 10% NaCl cell into the 400mL of 50% NaCl solution. 6. Place the 1%, 10%, and 50% NaCl cells into each of the three 400mL NaCl solutions. 7. Wait 40 minutes. 8. Remove the cells, one by one, and weigh. Record the weights on the chart, for each solution. Results: As we have just presented/ demonstrated, via data, the cell concentration and solution concentration had an decrease in weight. The cause of the decrease of NaCl (cell solution), the osmosis was the effect on this. Osmosis is the movement of water molecules across a selectively permeable membrane. The net movement of water molecules through a partially permeable membrane from a solution of higher potential to an area of low water potential. Placing the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. According To Ward Goodenough s The Interpretation Of Culture One of the most significant and controversial elements found within the study of music is the representation of culture. Although the definition of representation according to Merriam Webster is a person or group that speaks or acts for or in support of another person or group, it is not as easily said than done. The true act of representing another is both incredibly complex and challenging as it contains many subjective variables. History, for example, has demonstrated the complexity of defining what is true representation through the presence of leaders and authoritative figures who have failed to truthfully represent the common man. As a result, the people who have no outlet for expression are represented unjustly by those who do. Similarly, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, culture has become more located in the discussion and ways in which demonstrate such complexity than truly demonstrating the complexities of man. It is presumed that in order for true representation to exist, it must be complex and contain many variables in order to be true. One of the most prominent questions surrounding representation in ethnography is how to convey complexity, especially in a culture that is so vast. But if complexity becomes the root of representation, then representation can very easily become fixated over how to cover all aspects of a culture and to focus more on the scientific analysis and processes of articulating the traditions found within a culture than the actual people found within the culture. Complexity, although still a significant factor in representation, can lead to an deviation away from what the true focus of representation should be: the people. Even though representation does indeed contain many complex factors and unanswered questions, the focus of a study should not centralize solely on how to answer such questions. The complexity of representation should instead be found within the thick descriptions of what can be simply answered: the emotions and beliefs of the people. The only form of complexity found within representation should be found within the thick descriptions of man, By doing so, the complexities of man becomes the focus of what true representations involves instead of the complexity of representation in and of itself. Therefore, representation is and should be a connection to the people: the source of what truly should be represented in the study of any ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Up To 1775 Essay Economics Up to 1775* Cultivation of Tobacco was the basis of America s early economy; shortly after, later economy weaved and meshed with the British Empire s on heavily voluminous levels, and their relationship was strongly based on various Acts placed upon the Colonies. After acquiring seeds from Trinidadian colonies, John Rolfe s plantation of the tobacco plant caused the first real economic presence by selling them to European countries. The Tobacco plant was the first true cash crop of America, imports from their mother country England were reaching to about half a million pounds per year. The Navigation Acts of 1651 prohibited any foreign ships, with an emphasis on the Dutch, into British Colonies in relation to trade. The British Kingdom believed that for America to be a stable country, their exports should outnumber their imports. The Kingdom was just recovering from a brutal recession, and they were determined to make sure that their rivals, the Dutch, be absent of a trading relation with the Colonies. The Molasses Act of 1733 was one of the first Acts that ironically brought in a boom of smuggling into the colonies. It issued that any molasses imported from any country other than the British Colonies would have a six pence per gallon tax placed upon it. This act was created mainly due to the urging of large plantation owners in the British West Indies. The Currency Act of 1751 blocked the production of paper money by New England colonies. The Sistine Chapel ceiling was originally painted blue with golden stars up until 1508 when Michelangelo was called upon to redecorate the ceiling. Many people thought and hoped that he would fall flat on his face with the project due to the fact that he was more well known as a sculpture, even Michelangelo thought the same thing about himself and at first refused to do so, however he later agreed to paint the chapel when Julius agreed to let him paint it with his own idea rather than others. In the play, Trifles by Susan Glaspell, we see how Mrs. Wright has changed over the years. We see how cheerful she was before marrying Mr. Wright. While trying to solve the murder, the author uses symbolism, conflict, and irony. The are many examples of conflict in this play. The most apparent conflict is that between the men and the women in the play. In the first parts of the investigation, the sheriff is already showing his feelings towards women. Well, can you beat the woman! Held for murder and worryin about her preserves (Glaspell). To Mr. Peters, the concerns of women mean nothing. Even Mr. Hale s view of the women is crude. Well, women are used to worrying over trifles (Glaspell). Mr. Hale even thinks that what the women are worried about isn t important. The county attorney is also in conflict with the ladies in the story. Mr. Henderson can t even dry his hands without finding some excuse to talk bad about Mrs. Wright. Dirty towels (Glaspell). Not much of a housekeeper, would you say ladies (Glaspell). In the eyes of Mr. Henderson, the women are nothing more than housekeepers. Mrs. Hale doesn t see things the way the men do. • 9. Sullivan Not only did Sullivan aesthetically use masonry in bank construction to impact modernism, but he also used elaborate ornamentation. Notably, the use of ornamentation, in the way that Sullivan grandiosely applied it, grew less and less by other architects during his time. However, Sullivan noticed the importance of savoring aesthetic ornamentation, terra cotta decorative features , in architecture and applied it to most of his buildings in varying degrees, but especially to his bank designs (Karwatka 9). In fact Dankmar Adler, Sullivan s business partner for a time, felt Sullivan displayed artistic intelligence unequaled by himself and soon delegated aesthetic matters to Sullivan because Sullivan possessed a genius ability to fus[e] technology and artistic expression (Lewis 52; Meyer 6). ... Largely known for terrorizing gardens and melting children s hearts, this animal is considered a pest among some and a harmless critter among others. The cottontail is known for its tall ears, powerful hind legs, and of course, its trademark cotton white tail. This means that by the time a doe is caring for her last litter of the season, offspring from her first litter may be tending to their own babies. While cottontail litters are relatively large, consisting of three to eight young, a sparse number will survive to adulthood. Many are lost to predators such as dogs and cats. Others die from a flaw in nest building. The way a mother doe builds a nest makes it very susceptible to filling with water. Entire litters are lost when this happens, as the blind, deaf, and furless baby rabbits drown in their own refuge. Even when cottontails do survive long enough to leave the nest, many are killed within their first year. While this may seem like a tragedy, it is a harsh fact of life for cottontails. During the first year, I will examine how the natural losses in young affect the mother rabbits. I will also pay close attention to how many of the cottontails survive the entire first ... • 12. Argumentative Essay On Wolfdogs A wolf dog hybrid is just what the name states: a cross between a wolf and a domesticated dog. They are a breed that attempts to add a wild side to man s best friend. Imagine giving a belly rub to a wolf, it sounds fun and exciting. However, seeing that they are part wild animal, wolfdogs create a lot of problems. Many wolfdogs are dangerous and cause harm to their owners and end up either being put down or badly abused. Would it be better for everyone if wolfdogs are not allowed as pets or even bred in the first place? As previously stated, wolf dog hybrids can be very dangerous. During a wolf s adolescence there is a great increase in hormones, thus causing their wild animal instincts and behaviors to kick in. Furthermore, physical and mental maturity happen at different rates for dogs and wolves, this makes it hard to predict when a hybrid will come to that full maturity. Hybrids are known for being unpredictable. In 2003, Koa, a 1½ year old hybrid from Idaho, was euthanized after killing a 13 month old boy. • 13. Labor Unions And The American Labor Relations Act Of... Before the 1930s, labor unions had little to no voice in the contracts of industrialized companies. Labor Unions are organizations of workers whose primary objectives are to improve the pecuniary and nonpecuniary conditions or employment among their members (Ehrenberg Smith, pg. 451). The Christian Labour Association of Canada (CLAC) and the United Automobiles Workers (UAW) are different unions in Canada and the Unites States. Even though they have some similarities, the two groups have many differences as well. Some similarities include how they bargain and negotiate. However, they differ in the type of union, what they stand for, how large they are, why and when they started, and what they negotiate for. Unions were finally able to form in the Unites States because the National Labor Relations Act of 1935 passed, which required employers to bargain with unions that represented the majority of their employees (Ehrenberg Smith, pg. 453). Because of the National Labor Relations Act, unions could legally form and be recognized by employers. The United Automobiles Workers (UAW) began in May of 1935 in Detroit, Michigan. Initially, 200 delegates from different automobile companies met in Detroit to establish the UAW, and its power over negotiating strengthen just a few years after forming. The UAW created a union for auto plant workers, which made them an industrial union. The UAW represents different types of workplaces from multinational corporations, small ... The Good, The Bad And The Ugly The Good, The Bad And The Ugly A genre in a film uses familiar story formulas, character types, settings and all of which lead viewers to have a certain perception about what the movie will be like before actually watching it (Goodykoontz, B., Jacobs, 2014). In many instances, genres produce an explanation of the film. Evidently, this paper focuses on westerns as the main theme; this movie depicts notions of molarity tales, ironic tales and describes the notion of a classical look of the old western times. Additionally, this film genre has portrayed much about America s past, glorifying the past fading values and aspirations of the mythical by gone age of the West. Over time, westerns have been re defined, re invented and expanded, dismissed, re discovered, and spoofed. However, most western movie ideas derived from characteristics known to the Native Americans and Mexicans way before the American culture knew about it. They are many misrepresentations of cultures and races shown throughout movies from as early as 1920 s with silent films. Although one could argue that silent film era was more politically correct than today s films, the movie industry still continues at times to misrepresent cultures and their lifestyles in films known as, western films. In representation of this genre, I have chosen The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. Mary Shelley s Frankenstein and Ridley Scott s Blade Runner Comparison and Contrast Introduction Mary Shelley s Frankenstein and Ridley Scott s Blade Runner are two story lines created in a different era, Frankenstein being an early published novel on the creation of an experimental monster that longs to have a normal existence whilst Blade Runner is a more modern take to a future society where there have been genetically engineered robots named replicas that are in appearance indistinguishable from human beings which choose to escape to the planet earth in search of extending their life spans. To contrast the two stories is relatively simple; the two films share forms of differences in era and a basic human acceptance. Starting with era, Frankenstein is an early production/novel in which scientifically a creature is created and serves as a warning how something that could prove well in future can itself turn drastically wrong. This is also shown in the film Blade Runner providing a simplicity for humans turns wrong with the creation of the replica robots being used as an ease in which they get sick of and in turn escape to humanity having only a 4 year life span in which they try to find a way to extend. This is different to Frankenstein s approach choosing instead to learn of humanity and tries finding a way to be accepted instead of trying to merge and hide in humanity. The human acceptance between both films is significantly different but in turn not so much, Frankenstein for example is unaccepted because of his physical appearance and general attitude to the human community for their reactions against him, whilst the replicas from the film Blade Runner are accepted as they look and act alike to human beings which from a regular human their differences would be hard to distinguish. At the time, the NBA was very physical with imposing big men and low scoring games. The players on the Bad Boys not only symbolized basketball at the time but the world during the 1980s. Players such as Dennis Rodman, Isiah Thomas, and Joe Dumars may gain recognition but players like John Salley, Bill Laimbeer, and Rick Mahorn were all important cogs to how the Bad Boys changed and influenced basketball and the world. • 20. The Anshe Chesed Fairmount Temple On October 29, 2016, I visited the Anshe Chesed Fairmount Temple which offers services regarding the religion of Judaism. Although I don t identify as religious, I was originally raised as Roman Catholic, even going to a private catholic elementary school. I ve always had somewhat of an interest in Judaism as it s believed to be among one of the oldest existing religions in the world along with Hinduism. The service I visited is referred to as the Shabbat Morning Service , which took place from 11:00 AM 12:15 PM. The word Shabbat is Hebrew which is one of the primary languages associated with Judaism. In English, it translates to Sabbath which is primarily a day of religious observance and rest which is kept by those that practice Judaism, also known as Jews, from Friday evening to Saturday evening. Jews believe that God is the creator of all that exists and he alone is to be worshipped. They also believe that Jesus did not fulfill messianic prophecies that establish the criteria for the coming of the messiah. The congregation is led by a rabbi who is a Jewish teacher or scholar and usually they are joined by a cantor who sings liturgical music and sometimes leads in prayer. Attendants read and sing from a prayer book throughout the service at the prompting of the rabbi and cantor. Male attendants are prompted to wear kippahs at services although they are technically optional. Generally, at Shabbat services, there is a partition between men and women in that men sit on ... However, from its inception it has created the requirements for defences for the numerous offences. One of the most complex of these is the defence of consent, the one to be considered here. With regard to this problem, it is necessary to identify any crime that has been committed, examine how consent will apply and analyse how satisfactory the law is on this topic. I will first discuss what crimes Wilbur has committed followed by whether he can indeed use the defence of consent before finishing with my own thoughts on the law and how this area could possibly benefit from reform. Under s.20 of the OAPA 1861, Wilbur has committed the crime of Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH) against Ewan. Despite only meaning to cause bruising which would count as battery, Wilbur has caused a much more serious offence in GBH albeit unintentionally. Wilbur did not mean to cause GBH but s.20 of the above act enables him to be charged for GBH without meaning it, as it brings a recklessness element into play. Under s.20, the defendant must have the intention or be reckless as to the causing of some harm. There is no need for the prosecution to establish that they intended or was reckless as to causing serious harm. In the case of DPP v Smith , grievous bodily harm was defined as really serious harm, which the ripping off of two fingers definitely satisfies. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Each building, especially, the historical ones has a function, for which it was built, and a style carried with messages to convey for the people. The Greek and the Roman buildings are the best examples of the buildings, which tells a lot about their cultures. So, this essay will discuss two buildings from the ancient eras, their differences, and similarities. The first one is the Parthenon in Athens while the other is the Pantheon in ancient Rome. Also, it will explain how the style and use of these buildings served as a typical example of their culture. The Pantheon is a Roman temple, and it was built in 125 CE in the reign of Hadrian. So, the Romans, using it in such an important temple, wanted to talk about their strength, architectural skills, and ability to innovate. Moving to the other building swiftly, the Parthenon in Athens is a Greek temple. It was built in 432 B.C. in the Age of Pericles. Hence, it was built when the Athenian Empire was at the top of its power. The word Parthenon was derived from Athena epithets: Athena Parthenos, which means Virgin. (Cartwright, 2012). Personally, I believe that the name is a genius choice as the temple was constructed for the sake of the goddess Athena. Moreover, since the Parthenon mixed different Greek orders, namely the Doric and Ionic, it is the best example to show how the Greeks could produce such a stunning temple. The materials they used were not limited to marble and bronze. They used gold and ivory in lavish amounts for the sculpture of their goddess, as well. There is too much important symbolism in these two buildings. However, from the aforementioned information, I can say that the similarities between these two buildings are many. They could be the purpose of their constructing as they both were temples and the messages of the strength, authority, ability, and wealth ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The tangible heritage that remains in the region effected by the Syrian Civil War is testament to thousands of years of culture, history and civilization, which must be protected and efforts must be put forth in its preservation. However, this heritage was built by the ancestors of those who have gone, and is a symbol of past peoples. Those who remain however, are suffering from the onslaughts of both terrorist groups one one hand, and are the victims of conflict between the Free Syrian Army and the forces of President Bashar Al Asad2. It is a logistical and moral quagmire to divert and commit forces to either one or the other, to protect them both from the destruction in the ongoing conflict. Should international and local military focus and effort emphasize the protection of priceless artifacts that are irreplaceable assets for the Syrian people and the world at large? The barren environment is comprised solely of unbroken white (London 65), the sun refuses to shine, and, most saliently, the temperature measures 107 degrees below freezing. These factors render the Yukon a harsh place through which to travel, especially as a lone voyager like the man, the story s central character. Survival, however, is possible, and the man s success in this wilderness hinges critically upon his ability to know more than just the facts of the Yukon. The man must imagine the consequences of his actions. [2] London wastes no time informing the reader that the man s greatest weakness is, in fact, his inability to imagine. In the work s opening paragraphs, we learn of the Yukon s gray (London 64) austerity, indescribable darkness (London 64), and great cold (London 65). Yet, what follows in a stark juxtaposition is that these conditions had no effect on the man and that the trouble with him was that he was not able to imagine (London 65). Through this opening, London establishes a framework by which the Yukon will test the man s ability to imagine the implications his surroundings and actions entail. In To Build a Fire, the dog an embodiment of the Yukon environment itself serves to illuminate how the man is quick and ready in the things of life (London 65), but fails to imagine the consequences of his actions. Energy efficiency is also considered as another challenge for multiprocessor real time systems to ensure energy availability while maintaining assurance that timing constraints will be met. Multiprocessor scheduling algorithms employ either a partitioned or global scheduling approach or hybrids of the two. In the partitioning scheme, all the jobs of a task are executed on the same processor [1]. In contrast, in the global strategy, any job of a task can be executed on any processor, or even be preempted and moved to a different processor before it is completed [2]. Nevertheless, parallelism is prohibited in both approaches, this means that, no job of any task can be executed at the same time on more than one processor. Multiprocessor scheduling can be categorized into different classes based on different criteria, i.e. homogeneous/heterogenous. On a homogeneous platform, all processing cores are identical. Therefore, the execution rate of all tasks is the same among all processors. Hence, the scheduling strategy only needs to concern the execution time of each task. On the other side, on heterogeneous platform, the rate of execution of a task depends on both the core and the task. This is due to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He s here, I shouted, racing outside to welcome my nephew who had driven across the country to visit us. After greeting him with hugs, we watched as Evan s eyes took in our cabin, nestled in the woods. So this is White Pines, he said. At that moment I wished I could crawl inside Evan s head and see what his first impressions were. If I were a betting woman, I d bet my life that curiosity had forced my nephew into visiting. We d invited my brother s family for a visit several times over the years, but they had never come. Eventually our families had grown up. But as my sons and their cousins stayed in touch, their cousins seemed curious about the kind of lifestyle we led snuggled in the mountains. I believe Evan finally had to check it out for himself before life s obligations made it impossible. Not only had my children and their cousins grown up on different sides of the country, but world s apart when it came to lifestyles. My brother led a traditional life, which offered a beautiful home, the latest clothing styles, and security; while our family had chosen a meager lifestyle, unlike anything my brother s kids could imagine. Examples Of Unrealistic Television By Neal Gabler Unrealistic Television In Social Networks , Neal Gabler explains how television shows and social network influence our daily interactions with friends and family in great details. The author shows that all TV show is just a fiction nowadays. Gabler said, Television is providing some sort of compensation for the social atomization that it itself has contributed to , and thus , all the simulated conviviality , while being a pleasant dream, is pure wish fulfillment, indeed, rather phony, and, perhaps, sad (315). In this paper, I will be discussing the history of violent video games. I will include scientific studies done on violent video games. I will include various crime cases involving video games. I will discuss the effects of violent video games. Lastly, I will give possible solutions to prevent violent crime from happening. There is a lot of history when it comes to video games and violent video games, but the earliest violent video games have been around since the 1970s. In 1976, Death Race was the first video game criticized for its violence. The goal of this game was to run over human like creatures known as gremlins that made an unrealistic human screaming sound when struck. Since the 1970s, everything has gone downhill. In the 1980s, beloved games we know today like Pac Man and Super Mario Bros faced criticism for their cartoon violence. This is because of Pac Man killing the ghosts and Mario attacking various enemies to achieve his goal to get to the next level. • 48. The Process Of Deduction Logic In social research, traditional and non traditional methods are used to explore and examine research queries and relate methods of data collection and observation. One conventionally accepted method is through deductive logic. Deductive logic is research that begins with a theory and arrives at a specific expectation through a series of scientific steps. Both explanatory and exploratory techniques can be used in deductive. In contrast, inductive methods, in which researchers examine specific data sets and detect general patterns, are considered non traditional. In inductive logic, the identification of empirical patterns result in a generalization about some social process (Schutt, 2012, p. 45). The process of deduction logic begins with statements, also known as premises , that are assumed to be true. A determination is made regarding additional factors that must be true if the premises are true. A special logical structure, known as modus ponens, is a rule asserting that a hypothetical proposition according to which if the antecedent be affirmed, the consequent is affirmed (Merriam Webster, 2015). The form of any argument having the structure of modus ponens is as follows: Given P, if P then Q, so, Q. Using this structure, any argument is stated as the major premise, the minor premise, and the conclusion. In this way, the statements are evaluated in terms of validity and soundness. The strength of deductive reasoning is its consideration of validity and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Despite all the publicity surrounding this term, however, many people are still confused by it. The confusion arises from the fact that ozone is both beneficial and harmful. We know that the ozone layer in the upper atmosphere acts as a filter for the sun s ultraviolet rays, reducing the amount of radiation that reaches the earth s surface. At ground level, though, high concentrations of ozone can be harmful. The Ozone Layer Ozone gas forms a layer all around the earth high in the stratosphere. Carpool or use public transportation to help reduce the amount of harmful emissions in the air that contribute to the production of ozone. Avoid using gasoline powered lawn equipment or other gasoline powered tools. Big Differences The distinction between the two ozone issues — the beneficial ozone layer versus ozone pollution — is extreme. The ozone layer in the stratosphere needs to be protected.
