while others are multicolored. Many a flower blooms in the wilderness. Some flowers are liked for their

Keats says, A thing of beauty is a joy for ever. Flowers are also a thing of beauty and joy for ever. Our
beloved world poet Tagore claims, nowhere would thou find such a land, queen of all lands, my beloved
motherland. Flowers are loved by one and all. I think, there is hardly any person who does not love flowers.
Flowers may be called the queen of beauties of nature. They add enormously to the surpassing beauty of
Bangladesh. Our poets and writers are captivated by their eye catching beauty. They fill their hearts with
soft emotions and feelings for both truth and beauty. They become inclined to compose writings about them.
To quote a beautiful rhyme, Fuler gandhe ghum ase na akla jage roi, the same spirit is also found in the
expression of tagore, flowers? In the flower garden? No, thou shall not find it there. Search your heart and
thou shall find spring therein. In fact, flowers enlighten our mind, heart and soul with a spiritual light

Essay on European Nationalism Case Study---Catalan
European Nationalism Case Study Catalan During the development of Europe, Nationalism played an
important role. Initially, in the 19th century, a wave of nationalism swept the whole continent of Europe
from romantic nationalism to a variety of European countries .Subsequently, there were some new countries
in the different ways to initialize their movement on nationalism, such as the Romantic exaltation of feeling
and identity and the Liberal requirement that a legitimate state be based on a people rather than, for
example, a dynasty, God, or imperial domination. (Paul Halsall, 1998). Since then, the concept of
nationalism ascended to the historical stage. In this essay, the main research will be focused on the Catalan

Eventually, in the early 20th century, as a result of promotion to the movement by some clandestine political
leaders, the first modern political party in Catalonia, Lliga Regionalista, was founded .Later, it formed an
alliance with other Catalanist forces later, grouped in the so called Solidaritat Catalana, and won the
elections with the regionalist program that Enric Prat de la Riba had formulated in his manifesto La
nacionalitat Catalana (1906). (Daniele, 1997). Over all, essentially, this movement tremendously promoted
the autonomy and independency for Catalonia. In conclusion, Catalan Nationalist movement is regarded as
a movement of nationalism in nations without states. Crucial to the development of nationalism in nations
without states is the existence and position occupied by the potential elite (Guibernau, 2000) .During the
whole Catalanism movement and development of Catalonia, it is obviously that intellectuals play an
essential role in provoking this progress, especially in the maintenance of the Catalan language and culture.
Initially, in the result of long year repression by Catalans, there was a wide gap between intellectual elites
and the masses, which threatened the survival of the Catalan language and culture but gradually through
three main phenomena, which are the Nova Canco, the Assembly of Catalonia and the proliferation of
solidarity actions , this individual elite movement into a mass

Frank And Mustard
Frank and Mustard gather the historical information from the sixteenth century and note that the authorities
during this period recognized that famines were man made rather than natural disasters not because food
was not available but because of the lower classes inability to obtain it or gain access to it (p.3). The state
interfered, which angered farmers, producers, and merchants and contributed to the grievance against
Charles I and the Civil War. The Tutor Stuart program of food relief, this policy change subjected England
to nearly two centuries of periodic famines, food riots because of distribution and not production (p.4).
Through further discovery, one of the noted criticisms according to Frank and Mustard (1994) regarding

The decrease in mortality rates over the over the past 150 yrs. has been attributed to four factors according
to the UN report in 1953. Those factors are; 1) public health measures;2) advances in medical knowledge
and therapeutics;3) improved personal hygiene; and 4) improved standard of living (p.5). Mckeown and
Brown s attempts at understanding why health improved, explored factors which influenced the major
decline in mortality rates in the United Kingdom after 1840 (p.5). They cited a large decline in mortality
from airborne diseases, water and sanitation systems in the 1800 s and finally concluded that the decrease in
mortality was due to improved prosperity and nutrition (p.5). These factors are discussed in modern times
as Dr. Steven Woolf gave his testimony to the U.S. Senate in 2013, that as an example, 68% of American
adults have income that is more than twice the poverty level. Suppose we boosted that number just slightly,
from 68% to 70% and looked at the impact on one disease diabetes. That higher income would mean about
400 million fewer cases of diabetes saving $2 billion per year to treat that disease (p.1). Increasing income
contributes to lower health issues and chronic disease. The applied simplistic equation of increased income
decreased health issues is phenomenal, but why are we a society in which inequalities in health still

Glaucoma Research Paper
A common misconception is that glaucoma is a singular disease, in fact, it is a collaboration of many
diseases in the eyes that cause glaucoma. these diseases can often lead to loss of vision but, if caught early,
glaucoma, or the smaller diseases which lead to it, can be treated. Like many other diseases, if caught early,
the lasting effects will lessen. The most effected part of the eye is the optic nerve. The optic nerve s main
purpose is to connect the retina and the brain, as to send what the human is seeing to the brain to process the
visual information. The optic nerve contains more than one billion nerve fibers which each give off their
own electrical impulses to send the visual information to the occipital lobes in the brain. The occipital lobe
then processes the information which it receives. The most prominent type of glaucoma is Open Angle
Glaucoma. Open Angle Glaucoma occurs due to the build up of fluid in the eye. In a fully functional eye,
the fluid is secreted continuously and drains out in the open angle where the iris and the cornea meet.

Some people who are at higher risk or developing glaucoma are, Mexican Americans, African Americans
over the age of 40 and anyone over the age of 60. A good way to check if you are at risk is to visit the eye
doctor and have them perform a comprehensive dilated eye exam. The optometrists will often perform tests
such as visual acuity tests, this checks how far one can see. A visual field test is also performed which tests
ones peripheral vision. the optometrists also do a tonometry test which is an assessment on eye pressure
which is particularly important in detecting glaucoma. They can check the thickness of ones cornea through
a test called pachymetry. Most doctors prescribe specific eye drops to those who are at high risk of
developing glaucoma, these drops usually reduce the chance of developing glaucoma by about

Why People Behave In These Way Analysis
Why do people behave in these ways? The author jotted down on people, places, and things and asked the

The Pros And Cons Of Voter Turnout
Voter Turnout Elections happen all over the world in various countries on different scales. Some elections
can be for the president of a country while others can be for city council members. With all elections come a
voter turnout. Voter turnout can be measured in a number of ways. According to Fairvote, some ways to
measure are by percentages of either the amount of eligible voters, registered voters, or by the total
population that is old enough to vote in that designated area (Measuring Voter Turnout). The U.S. and Texas
both have low voter turnouts compared to others and struggle to increase them. Voter turnout is always an
important aspect when it comes to a measurement of participation from the citizens for the election.
Compared to other democracy countries, the U.S. does not have a high voter turnout for elections. Against
other developed countries that have a democracy government, the U.S. ranked 31 out of 34 in voter turnout
(Long). The percent that the U.S. has for its voting age population that participated in the most recent
national election was 55.7% while the percent of registered voters that participated was higher at 86.8%
(Desilver). There are various reasons why the U.S. voter turnout is how it is. Different countries conduct
their elections in numerous ways that make them unique. The U.S. uses an electoral college for the national
election. Americans have often discussed disapproval for this system since it is not a guarantee that their

Summary Of Videotape By Don Delillo
How can we determine what s real? The mass media were once thought of as holding up a mirror to, and
thereby reflecting, a wider social reality. Now that reality is only definable in terms of surface reflection of
the mirror was once said by Dominic Strinati (1992). The short fiction, Videotape, was written by Don
DeLillo in 1997 published in one of his novels Underworld (1997). The themes of postmodernism and how
the role of mass media forms false representation, resulting in changes of the meaning behind events, is
centered on the story Videotape . The impact of media attracts the society to postmodernism with the
obsession of violence. Don DeLillo was influenced by several historical events surrounding him such as the
Vietnam war, John F. Kennedy Assassination, the Civil War Rights, and the revolts that occurred afterwards.
The material in his novels are described as, Living with the dangerous times (Nance, Web). Don DeLillo
was born on November 20, 1936 in Bronx, New York. He didn t grow up with an interest in writing until his
teenage years, where he began reading during a summer job. The first novel he has ever written was called
Americana, which was finally published in 1971. The story, Videotape, demonstrates that the society is
centered on death and violence through media because it is viewed as more realistic than the actual event.
One of the key points in the story is that the accessibility of technology creates realism, which portrays
daily life

Evaluation and Critique of Iamsar Manual Vol Iii
Abstract
The research paper is an evaluation, appraisal and constructive criticism of the International Aeronautical
and Maritime Search and Rescue Manual, Volume III (version 2008). The success of coming up with the
paper relates to the completion of three practical lectures at the university of Plymouth simulator. In
addition, also a deep investigation assisted in supporting the material of this paper. The practical section of
the research involved dividing the class into six groups of three people, and each group leads a ship to work
on specified search and rescue scenario. These scenarios signified the real life scenarios, where each ship
had her own characteristics and capabilities.

and rescue operation. On the other hand, the glossary section has the definitions of all the terms available in
the manual. These two sections present the key to the understanding and following of the manual by anyone
involved in the search and rescue operation. Most importantly, the first time operators benefit from the
manual use in identifying their roles, search and rescue courses. Finally, these sections give the manual ease
and clarity in the usage (IMO ICAO, 2008).

The overview section is explaining the roles and responsibilities of each participant involved in the
operations. In addition, the IAMSAR manual show the personnel involved in the operations, as well as
those who are not. This section clears the picture for anyone who hears the relief appeal, and informs him
the roles and responsibilities in this operation, as shown in (Fig 1), (IMO ICAO, 2008).

Script For Us Soviet Space Race Presentation
Script for US Soviet Space Race Presentation
Americans, traditionally, love to fight. All real Americans love the sting of battle...Americans love a winner
and will not tolerate a loser. Americans play to win all the time...That s why Americans have never lost and
will never lose a war. Because the very thought of losing is hateful to Americans This quote from the 1970
biopic of General George Patton illustrates the worldview of Americans during and immediately following
World War II. When the new battle of the Cold War began, the Soviet Union became our new enemy, to be
absolutely and utterly defeated by any means necessary. Not only was each advancement by the U.S. a
victory, but each one by the USSR was implicitly a failure. This mindset culminated in the U.S. Soviet
Space race, a struggle to obliterate the other side technologically while leaving no room for collaboration.
This presentation seeks to explain the history of the event, as well as the positive and negative effects of the
competitive factor.
To briefly roadmap how this presentation will proceed, I will first explain the contributing factors that went
into starting the conflict, followed by how it began. Then, I will follow by highlighting some major
accomplishments from both sides. From there, I will explain the media s take on the events as they
unfolded, how the race ended, and finally conclude with an analysis of how the race positively and
negatively impacted the world.

The Film Black Orpheus and the Myth of Orpheus and Eurydice
The story of Orpheus and Eurydice is one that has been passed down through generations for thousands of
years. Almost every generation has heard a rendition of how Orpheus and Eurydice fall in love with one
another and are eventually parted by death. I say rendition because this myth is passed on by word of
mouth, which in return causes the story to change depending on the story teller. This may also have a great
deal to do with the different interpretation people form about the story. Black Orpheus, directed by Marcel
Camus in 1959, is an interpretation or modern rendition of the Greek myth, Orpheus and Eurydice.

The State of Nature and its Implications for Civilization...
The State of Nature and its Implications for Civilization in Hobbes and Rousseau
In his Leviathan Thomas Hobbes expresses a philosophy of civilization which is both practical and just and
stems from a clear moral imperative. He begins with the assertion that in the state of nature man is
condemned to live a life solitary, poore, nasty, brutish, and short. It is in the interest of every man to rise
above this state of nature and to give up certain rights so that the violent nature of the human animal can be
subdued. Jean Jacques Rousseau s vision of the state of nature parallels that of Hobbes but for its more
optimistic tone: I assume that men reach a point where the obstacles to their preservation in a state of nature

Hobbes argues for the rule of a monarch for his peace centered civil society. He believes that a monarch
who understands the basis for the covenant, who adheres to it and truly recognizes the importance of justice
for all of humanity, is the most efficient and trustworthy method of transcending the state of nature. For
Hobbes the most important aspect of justice is keeping the peace through adherence to the natural law.
Peace reigns supreme in his vision of civilization and a strong ruler who can pass laws to ensure that his
subjects respect the covenant is needed. Although such a government might be granted a dangerous amount
of power, nonetheless an overarching sovereign with knowledge of the natural laws is needed to keep in line
those who would abuse the liberties granted them through the covenant, thus threatening the society with a
return to the state of nature.
Rousseau, in contrast, sees a true transcendence of the state of nature as including more than simply peace.
His goal is more ambitious than Hobbes s. Because in Rousseau s philosophy humans in a state of nature
are not suffering as directly as Hobbes suggests, their goal is more than just the peace described in
Leviathan: How to find a form of association which

White Tailed Deer History
When the white tailed deer show up in my backyard, it s like witnessing a direct link to an age almost
forgotten. I freeze in my tracks, and I can t help but think about their unbroken chain of ancestors going
back into the ancient past. These animals were here long before any settlers arrived from Europe. They were
the hunted long before rifles replaced bows and arrows. They knew these lands when the waters were still
clean and the air was still fresh. They knew these lands when there were no cars and no railroads. They
were here before horses were brought to this continent from Europe. In their majestic silence, the deer have
witnessed footpaths become trails, trails become roads, and roads become interstates. Their resilience is

men came here to hunt for the meats and animal skins their people would need for winter. The rest of the

Lung Cancers And Its Effects
INTRODUCTION
What are lung cancers? Lung cancers are the abnormal cells which grow in uncontrolled manner in one or
both lungs. They do not function as normal lung cells and do not develop into healthy lung tissue. The
abnormal cells can grow, form tumours and interfere with the normal functions of the lung (Lungcancer.org,
2015). Lung cancers can be divided into two major types, namely non small cell lung cancers (NSCLC) and
small cell lung cancers (SCLC). NSCLC can be further classified into three main subtypes, namely
adenocarcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and large cell carcinoma (Longo Harrison, 2012). Lung cancers
can be diagnosed by chest X ray, computerised tomography (CT) scan, positron emission tomography
computerised tomography (PET CT) scan, bronchoscopy and biopsy (Nhs.uk, 2015). Unfortunately, lung
cancers are often diagnosed at the later stages. This is due to the unrecognisable symptoms and warning
signs at the earlier stages. NSCLC are often diagnosed at stage IV which accounts for 30 40% of cases
whereas 60% of SCLC is diagnosed at stage IV. Lung cancer usually originates from the cells lining the
bronchi, bronchioles and alveoli. Carcinogens especially tobacco smoke will alter the gene expression of
the normal human lung cells, resulting in cell mutation. The proto oncogenes will be converted to mutated
form, oncogenes. Mutation leads to the decreased expression of the tumour suppressor genes. This results in
uncontrolled cell proliferation, cell

When finding his daughter, he went directly to the basement of his home (Rolling Stone). This was an odd
place for him to go first because it was rarely used. Once he found his daughter s body, he moved it,
removed the duct tape on her mouth, and covered her with a blanket, even though he had been ordered to
leave everything as he found it (Rolling Stone). This destroyed physical evidence. Besides this, John was
alone when he discovered the crime scene, so there is nobody else to confirm or deny what happened upon
finding her. Local police found no sign of forced entry, further pointing blame towards someone who was
already in the home (Crimefeed). A few things in the note tie evidence to John Ramsey, as well. For one, the
money demanded for ransom was $118,000. That is a strange amount to ask for, especially seeing as it was
the exact amount John received for a Christmas bonus (Statement Analysis). Why would a killer have that
number on their mind while writing a ransom note? The note also gives the Ramsey s a 10 a.m. deadline

authorities (Rolling Stone). There were also several computer terms in the note, such as monitor and
scanned in the note. This is likely a coincidence, but John Ramsey was president of a computer company at
the time of the murder (Statement Analysis). Later, a detective heard John on the phone making plans to fly
his family to Atlanta. At first it seemed as if John were running from the police, but it was later determined
that he had been advised to take his family and get out of Colorado, so they wanted to go back to their old

Disney World And Homelessness
Reflections on Class Discussions Reflecting back on previous class discussions has brought my focus on the
effect that Disney World has contributed to the homelessness. The world is one great big fantasy once you
enter into the Magic Kingdom. Everyone is happy and there are smiles, dancing and laughter in all
directions. Perhaps we should look on the outside of the Magic Kingdom where the world and the people
are real; real just like you and me. The discussions were quite interesting as we shared the misconceptions
many had on how Disney World would bring major changes to the economy. There would be jobs, jobs,
jobs. However, to our realization those hopes and dreams were quickly diminished and people were coming
to recognize that the stars they were seeing were just magical that quickly disappeared. What was to be the
happiest place on earth was slowing becoming a drawing card for the people hoping to make a new start in
their lives. A place where jobs would be available and their families could have a better upgraded standard
of living. But it seems that everyone in the class agreed that this did not happen. We all agreed that many

do with how exposed they were to the idea when they were growing up. Many of the children from
immigrant families grow up being unfamiliar with the process. This could potentially contribute to lower
turnout of the Hispanic population to the polls. Knowing that the majority of our clients are of

will explore the role of music with regards to the formation and transformation of identities within the emo
subculture contrasting it to the dance music tradition. The subculture of emo music engulfed many young
adults of today s generation including myself and those who were drawn to its spectrum and their affiliation
to the music will allow for an in depth analysis of points made by scholars which will allow me to contrast
the emo subculture to that of dance music. Dance music has become increasingly popular in the current
popular music scene and it offers a distinct contrast to emo music. Therefore, this provides a genuine
contrast that can be anaylsed and by exploring the contrasting features of these two music forms and their
cultural traditions, it will be possible to conclude the role of music in how it forms and transforms identities
today.
Before delving into the meaning of emo I will first explore the definitions of culture and in particular, youth
subculture, to which emo is linked with. A culture as Stuart Hall describes is a way in which groups of
people handle the raw material of their social and material existence and also notes Marx in saying that
culture is the practice of realising group life in meaningful shape and form (Marx,

Es G And Ehs Management Practices
In today s business matter, numerous perspectives emphasize sustainability. Several environmental, social,
and governance issues, including health and safety among other factors, have contributed to the diverse
aspects of sustainability. The complex business reforms brought by the Environmental, Health and Safety
(EHS), including social and governance (ES G) issues remain indistinctive in several disciplines. Some
widespread proposals exist over the application of, ES G and EHS management practices and methods. To
understand sustainability, it is essential to discover how it has emerged and maintained a business focus.

Policymakers must consider a new development paradigm because it concerns public welfare. Future
generations must be taken into account when creating these developments within the paradigm. Not only
should the paradigm consider the interdependence of economic, social, and environmental dimensions, but
also human needs must be met without compromising the future generation s quality of life.
One must observe that sustainability, is conceptually a broader interception of environmental, social, and
economic issues. In 1989, William Rees, a professor with a creditable Ph.D. in population ecology,
suggested that an agreeable universal definition of the concept sustainable development was precondition to
developing acceptable policies and plans to support this concept. During the same year, Swedish doctor
named Karl Hendrick Robert, assembled a group of scientists and researchers. Similarly, he believed the
term lacked practical sense, thus his mission was to reach a scientifically meaning for it. Subsequently, the
research concluded that stainability is the capacity of the human society to continue indefinitely within the
cycles of natural environment. A broad connotation on sustainable development created a complex

Online Piracy Essay

Such policy seems to be working with plagiarism at e.g. Universities, but in term of intellectual property the
intangible aspect of the product makes it more difficult to control. Therefore stopping online piracy is easier

websites and taking a legal action against them leading to the closure. One case study worth following
regarding this issue was on the major streaming website TV SHACK.net has been seized many times by the
US government and it kept changing the domain addresses to overseas addresses as .co or .bz. The owner,

Streaming itself is a grey area in many countries, i.e. Germany, where it is not perceived as downloading

stored on foreign servers the law enforcement was extremely difficult, but now it has been set an example
worldwide of tackling with piracy. On entering the internet address now a video clip displays which in a

Questions On World Philosophy By Plato, Maria...
World Philosophy Paper
Mikala: I ask you this, what is Knowledge?
Plato: Knowledge is Virtue.
Maria Montessori: Knowledge is what we observe.
John Dewey: Knowledge is the active adaptation of a person based on their environment. This is an
example of the Socratic dialog laid out by Plato. Plato was a philosopher and educator whom believed that
education was the key to society. As a student, I realize how my education was impacted by philosophers
such a Plato, Montessori, and Dewey. As a future teacher, it is my responsibility to decide which
philosophies of education I believe and which methods I would use to impact my students. For this reason, I
am going to explore three different types of philosophy as presented by Plato, Maria ... Show more content

As a teacher, I would implement Plato s strategies by using the Socratic teaching method as illustrated
above. Leonard Nelson writes in The Socratic Method that this method of teaching focusses on giving
students questions rather than answers, thereby allowing the students to interact and seek truth. For this
reason, the student becomes the center of education, and the teacher becomes the facilitator of information.
This is why Plato writes in Meno that knowledge will not come from teaching, but it will come from
questioning (Thompson). I enjoyed the Socratic seminars in high a school because it allowed me as a
student to search for answers to the given question, and I had immediate feedback from my peers. As a
teacher, I would like to use this method occasionally because I value critical thinking rather than passively
receiving information.
Realism maintains an objective order of reality in which we gain knowledge from that reality. Many
teachers value and use this philosophy of education in their classrooms today. Perhaps one of the most
influential catalyst for realism in the classroom is Dr. Maria Montessori. Montessori believed that each child
is a worthy individual that is tasked with the duty to develop themselves into mature adults. One of her
main ideas is that learning should occur naturally and at the right time for each child, advocating, it is true

Descriptive/Values of the People:
The people that adhered to this religion were the Persians of the Persian Empire that dated from 550 330

Persian society was patriarchal but the women were seen as very valuable in society and experienced much
more equality than any other women of different empires. The economy was mostly based on trade which

Pourandokht was the first queen of Persia and it shows that women had quite a lot of equality and could

Zoroastrianism was created by a prophet named Zoroaster, or can also be referred as Ahura Mazda, who
was also considered the god of the religion. Zoroaster grew up in a polytheistic religion, where they had

A Peaceful Evacuation Essay
Running head: LEADERSHIP STYLES IN A PEACEFUL EVACUATION 2
According to Vance Packard, leadership appears to be the art of getting others to want to do something that
you are convinced should be done (Lewis, 2003). Leadership is a pertinent part of project management.
James Lewis (2003) says leadership is not a position; it s the ability to gain commitment from people.
According to Professor Warren G. Bennis, Leaders are people who do the right thing; managers are people
who do things right . The importance of leadership in a project is demonstrated in the case study, A Peaceful

An example of this leadership style is when Daniel gathered other Israeli Defense Forces (IDF)
psychologists for a day of thinking together, with the objective of expressing and listening to their different
opinions about potential problems that may arise in the evacuation project (Laufer, 2012). Daniel s strategy
was to brainstorm to identify key issues and mitigate risks. He felt that preparation was the key to
completing the mission. Daniel also used the term we , instead of I . His group of psychologists worked as
team to identify how to execute the mission according to the government s guidelines while ensuring that
the damage incurred during the evacuation itself would be minimal. Lieutenant Colonel Yaron displayed

Analysis Of Van Gogh s Starry Night Sky
One of Vincent Van Gogh s most world renowned paintings is his landscape oil painting Starry Night. The
painting displays a small town underneath an unusual yet still extremely beautiful night sky. In this night
sky, Van Gogh utilizes an array of colors that blend well together in order to enhance the sky as a whole.
The town is clearly a small one due to the amount of buildings that are present in the painting itself. In this
small town most of the buildings have lights on which symbolize life in a community. Another visual in
Starry Night is the mountain like figures that appear in the background of the illustrious painting. Several
things contribute to the beauty of Van Gogh s painting which are the painting s function, context, style, and
design. Van Gogh s utilization of these elements help bring further emphasis to his work in Starry Night.
Starry Night was painted by Vincent Van Gogh, a Dutch painter who was well known for being an
impressionist during his time. Van Gogh was born March 30, 1853 in the Netherlands and died at the age of
37 in France where he actually painted Starry Night while in the Hospital. Starry Night is located in the
Museum of Modern Art in New York City (Van Gogh Gallery). The main point of emphasis in Starry Night
is the relationships between a community, nature, and religion. Van Gogh ties these three points of emphasis
together in an exceptional manner in Starry Night. He compares the community and nature by placing the

The Bible Is Not A Children s Book Essay
The Bible is not a children s book. Not only is it beyond the length and reading level appropriate for
younger audiences, it often covers what some parents might consider inappropriate topics. Imagine finding
an illustrated children s bible containing graphic stories about talking to ghosts or children being burned
alive as sacrifices to God. These are troubling stories that actually appear within the Hebrew Bible, which
even some adults may feel uncomfortable discussing. Academic scholarship of the Bible, however, should
not be influenced by such discomfort. This has led a handful of scholars to study these death related
experiences within ancient Israelite contexts. The last thirty years have revealed at least two contemporary
topics of conversations between scholars within this subfield: necromancy and child sacrifice among
ancient Israelite religion. Typically, dialogue about ancient Israelites is framed among the broader beliefs
and practices of peoples from the surrounding geographical region including the Canaanites, Egyptians, and
other ancient peoples; these topics are no exception. While, there is also no consensus among modern
scholars, the majority of academics appear to accept both child sacrifice and necromancy as a historical
practice belonging to the worship of Yahweh. Nonetheless, these scholars continue to do so with varying
degrees of beliefs about the particular conditions during which these controversial customs were performed.

The Death Of The Devon County Pauper Lunatic Asylum
The Devon County Pauper Lunatic Asylum, also known as Exminster Hospital due to its location in
England, opened its doors to the mentally ill in July 1845. The building by J. Basire takes form of the
outline of a sun rising; half a circle in the center with branches coming out and fencing around the branches.
The building of three floors contained many who were considered mentally ill. What was defined as mental
illness and the terminology changed as the years went on, though it changed the asylum housed many
whom were considered such. The asylum closed its doors to any patient in July of 1985. Timeline:
Treatments for Mental Illness notes the history of mental illness; before the 1840s, being mentally ill was
considered to be a form of religious punishment and demonic punishment by many cultures. In 1407 the
first European establishment for mentally ill was established in Valencia, Spain. As time progressed it was
shown that Europeans began to increasingly isolate the mentally ill; treated inhumanly, often kept chained
to walls in dungeons. In the late 1700s some changes were made as concerns for the mentally ill people s
well being grew. After the French revolution Phillippe Pinel, a French physician, took over the Bicêtre
insane asylum, forbidding the use of chains and shackles. He provided the mentally ill with better living
conditions, sunny rooms and the ability to roam around the grounds. Though some things have improved,
mistreatment in other asylums persisted. In

Analysis Of Jason Brennan s Second Chapter Of Against...
In Jason Brennan s second chapter of Against Democracy (2016) multiple topics are discussed pertaining to
the political action of voting. Throughout this chapter Brennan explores the ideologies of rational ignorance
and rational irrationality about politics, as well as the psychological benefits of holding firm to an irrational
belief, and the cognitive biases or errors displayed in society. Brennan s views create controversy and often
times don t seem to directly favor one another. Although I admired the viewpoints Brennan gave, I had a
difficult time buying into the philosophical ideas he presented. As we progress in this paper, we will learn
more about Brennan s narrow view of politics being only associated to voting. Brennan created adequate
argument for the philosophical measures he presents, however this strict polices don t seem to equate with
democracy in its entirety.
Within the second chapter of Against Democracy (2016), we become aware of rational ignorance about
politics and rational irrationality about politics. These two subjects hold considerable weight in Brennan s
expression of what it means to be political. Rational ignorance is when the costs of acquiring knowledge
surpass the benefits of having that knowledge (Brennan, 2016). In relation to politics, which Brennan
exclusively only refers to as voting and not any other political action, rational ignorance is when there is no

Criminal Behavior And Social Control
Our society is at the will of two fundamental forces: deviant behavior and social control. Behaviors that are
not deemed as socially acceptable, or that do not fall in line with what society calls normal , are deviant.
Social control aims to influence people s behaviors and is a means of moderating, as well as preventing
deviance. The two forms of social control are informal and formal social control. The former consists of self
control and relational controls (Owen, Fradella, Burke, Joplin, 2012, p. 103) while the latter uses
governmental resources to deter deviance in its citizens. In my opinion, informal social control is a better
deterrent of criminal behavior since your own will and how you are raised can be the greatest forces driving
a person to live a good life or choose to start one. Informal social control comes down to two forms of
interactions the ones that you form with yourself that develop your conscience and those that you
experience with others. The first, internal, can not necessarily exist without the second, external, because we
learn and gauge what is right or wrong from the environments and people around us. Our parents
encouraging us to go to school, stay away from drugs, and raising us to be responsible members of society
is an example of external social control. In contrast to informal social control, formal social control employs
alternative methods of behavioral control. According to Owen, Fradella, Burke, Joplin (2012), Donald

provide for a number of public goods, such as infrastructure and public education. Second, these taxes are
used to redistribute income from the economically successful to the less successful. Taxes are a massive
component for any country; they are used to help grow and provide for a number of sufficient facilities to
its numerous citizens. Without taxes in our country, it is extremely hard to fund the systems that are a
necessity for society to operate as it should. Tax rates depend upon a country s economic and social goals.
In the following paragraphs, the views of America s liberals, conservatives, and then my personal views on
this topic will be shown.
American liberals prefer higher taxes; mostly focusing on taxing the wealthy people in our country. Their
belief is that higher taxes and a larger government are absolutely necessary to address economic inequality
and economic injustice in today s society. Their ideology states that higher taxes would enable the
government to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They believe in lower taxes and a smaller government with very restricted power. If the government is
taxing its people less, these people will have more of the money that they earned themselves. Therefore, this
can create more of an incentive for people to save money, work, invest, and engage in new business
opportunities. Stefan Folster in his essay regarding the subject says, A second reason why lower taxes may
affect self employment is that lower taxes often imply lower expenditure on unemployment benefits, early
retirement benefits, and other subsides to non work. To the extent that unemployment benefits are reduced,
unemployed people who are constrained on the labor market have greater incentives to become self
employed. (2) Conservatives main belief, at its core, is that money is best spent by those who truly earn

Symbolism In The Legend By Marie Lu
Everyone needs hope in their lives for the good times and the bad. Hope is an essential part of human life,
which is sometimes symbolized into objects. Legend by Marie Lu is a dystopian story about Day, a slum
sector teen criminal, and June, a wealthy military prodigy. Marie Lu uses Day s pendant to symbolize the
hope and freedom Day and June yearn for. In the beginning of Legend, Marie Lu uses Day s pendant to
symbolize the hope and freedom that he lost after failing his Trials and yearns for. An example from the text
that supports this argument is on page 6, I didn t even get to take anything except the pendant I wore around
my neck. I didn t even get to say good bye. ... If you re lucky Congress lets you die without first sending

Even though June secretly has the pendent, Day believes it is lost and longs for it. The evidence to support
this is on page 138, ...he grabs at something around his neck. It s such an unconscious movement that I
doubt he even realizes that he did it. He had grabbed at the ghost of a necklace...Day s pendant. His pendant
become such a part of him that he reaches for it just out of habit for emotional support. An additional reason
Day misses his pendant, is because as shown on page 57, I reach up to touch my pendant for comfort.. The
purpose of the pendent changes as before it helped remind him of his family, but now it helps comfort
him. Ultimately, the book s conclusion shows how Day and June achieved the freedom they yearned for.
On page 231, some evidence to back my claim up, In her palm is my pendant necklace ... but still more or
less whole ... That s how she recognized me when she finally found me I must have reached for it. [Day]
looks at it in wonder. When Day lost his pendant when he was captured, he felt that all hope was lost. But
when he gets his pendent back, Day regains

The objective is to determine the most cost effective method to decrease the project s deadline. The project
plan discussed below has been generated through the use of a projectplanning scheduling technique, Critical
Path Methodology, to secure the scientific approach. The program schedule provides a quantitative basis to
make managerial decisions to shorten the implementation time of the overall project.
2. Assumptions and Approximations
The mathematical model created to schedule all the projects is based upon a number of simplifying
assumptions and approximations. These need to be taken into account in order to make an independent
judgment about the model s usefulness.
The assumptions and approximations of this model are:

The product introduction program has been broken down into three groups of activities: Research
Development, Marketing Advertising, and Promotion;

The description of each activity and the indicated time required for its completion in weeks was taken at
face value from the case;

The tasks to be performed by each department and the estimated durations and deadlines were also
considered as given;

The preceding activities for each activity are considered as such;

The tasks that could potentially be crashed by increasing resources were decisions based on the information
available in the case.

Jungian Theories Essay
Jungian Theories History: Carl Jung was a Swedish psychiatrist and a psychologist. And during his 86 years
of life, from1875 to 1961 developed the analytical psychology. He based his theories on the works of his
close friend and mentor Sigmund Freud: the psychoanalytical theories. Early on in his career Jung followed
Freud and supported his theories, but as Jung found aspects of Freud s theories that he found disagreements
with, Jung parted and formulated his own (Anthony). In turn, his theories would go beyond psychology and
affect theology, philosophy, and anthropology , according to George H. Pollock in World Book
Encyclopedia. Jung was born on July 26, 1875 in Kesswil, Switzerland. Son to Johnannes Paul Achilles

In 1912, Jung published his Psychology of the Unconscious, parting his theories from that of his colleague

friendship with his companion. During the last 50 years of Jung s life, he made trips to a variety of different
countries. He expanded his knowledge on mythology and history by doing so and it resulted in the
publication of his Psychological Types in 1921 (Encarta). Jung continued to write on his analytical
psychology theories along with the relationship between religious beliefs and psychological therapy until
his death on June 6, 1961 (http://www.eskimo.com/~dcs). Theories: Jung explains his theories in the
psychological sense. He divided his theory into 3 core parts or psyches. First is the ego. This is the
conscious state of every human, the personified traits and characteristics everyone shows to the world. The
second psyche is the personal unconscious (Gannon, http://usd.edu/~tgannon/Jungbio.html). This division
would include memories or recollections of past events. These images could easily be pictured in the minds
of people, but have been stored for some odd reason. The Jung Society of Seattle (http://eskimo.com/~dcs/)
says his third psyche is what separates his theories from others: his collective unconscious. This is the
knowledge that everyone has that contains information that has been collected by

Essay about Mentoring and Coaching
| Mentoring and Coaching | Essay | | | |
Identify and evaluate the key factors which influence the effectiveness and strength of a mentoring
relationship. |
This essay will start by defining mentoring, and giving a brief understanding of mentoring. This essay will
then go on to identify and evaluate a number of key factors that may influence the effectiveness of a
mentoring relationship. This essay will focus on the example of mentoring within schools and a learning
mentor to be more specific.
Firstly this essay will look at the difference between coaching and mentoring. Both coaching and mentoring
are processes that allow both individual and schools to achieve their full potential.
Coaching and mentoring share many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A Learning Mentor is a relatively new concept in the field of education and is used within schools to
support them in raising standards.
Specifically Learning mentors are placed in schools to raise pupils attainment, improve attendance and to
reduce permanent and fixed term exclusions. Many schools have successfully implemented the Learning
Mentor programme and assessed that the impact is evident on individuals and groups of pupils (George,
2010)
Learning mentors tend to work on a one to one level or in small numbered groups, a learning mentor must
be a good listener, be able to encourage and motivate and act as a role model and encourage the build up of
a mutually respectful relationship (Hayward, 2001).
According to Hayward (2001), Learning Mentors have had an incredible impact on individual pupils lives,
in some cases transforming low achieving and unfocused students with minimal self esteem and a lack of
commitment into more confident pupils with higher grades, improved motivation and a sense of direction.
What all Learning Mentors have in common is their aim to break down barriers to learning , unlocking
education opportunities for school students and releasing hitherto untapped potential (Hayward,

Artemis Twin Mother
Artemis is the twin sister of Apollo and the daughter of Zeus and Leto. Her mother gave birth to her on the
island of Ortygia and after she was born she immediately helped her mom give birth to her twin brother and
with that ...becoming the protector of childbirth and labour. (Megas, 1997 2017)
She also asked Zeus to grant her eternal chastity and virginity. Artemis focussed on hunting and nature that
s why her symbols are bows, arrows, stags, hunting dog, and the moon. She was is the protector of wild and
tame animals, agriculture, and animal herding. But just as she was the protector of all this things she also
could cause sudden death and diseases with her twin brother Apollo.
Artemis would protect women, children, and animals unless they disgrace her or her family. One day the
wife of Amphion which goes by Niobe was bragging that she was superior from Leto because Leto was
only blessed with two children and she was blessed with 14 children. Leto feeling angry told her children
Apollo and Artemis to kill Niobe s children one by one. Artemis killed the females and Apollo killed the
males. They killed them with arrows that were dipped in poison. Niobe s children remained unburied for
nine whole days because Zeus warn anyone that would try to bury them he would turn those people into
stone.
Artemis is granted eternal virginity from her father Zeus but that didn t stop one man named Actaeon. He
one day saw her bathing in the sacred pool until Artemis saw him and by

Subject: Here s to Second Chances: Extend the Maryland Second Chance Act to Housing, Not Just
Employment
The 2015 Maryland Second Chance Act: For Employers Only
The Maryland Second Chance Act is a relatively new piece of legislation that authorizes persons to petition
the courts to shield conviction records for nonviolent misdemeanors (possession of a controlled substance,
prostitution, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, etc.) from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In Maryland, public assistance programs as well as housing programs are able to deny assistance to
individuals with incarceration histories or convictions on their records. The Corporation for Supportive
Housing estimates that 10 to 12 percent of former inmates are homeless. Other studies put the count at
between 15 and 27 percent (Law). With such a large percentage of inmates being released to the streets, it is
no wonder that rates of recidivism are so high.
Marylanders need to push for the Second Chance Act to apply to housing, and not solely to employment
opportunities.
Who is impacted?
After a three to five year waiting period, the Maryland Second Chance Act shields conviction records of
individuals with nonviolent misdemeanors. The crimes that are shielded as written in the bill are as follows:
(1)DISORDERLY CONDUCT
(2) DISTURBING THE PEACE
(3) FAILURE TO OBEY A REASONABLE AND LAWFUL ORDER
(4) MALICIOUS DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY IN THE LESSER DEGREE [under $500 damage]
(5) TRESPASS ON POSTED PROPERTY
(6) POSSESSING OR ADMINISTERING A CONTROLLED DANGEROUS SUBSTANCE
(7) POSSESSING OR ADMINISTERING A NONCONTROLLED SUBSTANCE
(8) USE OF OR POSSESSION WITH INTENT TO USE DRUG PARAPHERNALIA
(9) DRIVING WITHOUT A LICENSE
(10) DRIVING WHILE PRIVILEGE IS CANCELED, SUSPENDED, REFUSED, OR REVOKED

Valence Electrons and Gilbert Newton Lewis
Lewis Dot Structures Throughout the 20th century, Gilbert Newton Lewis, found a way on how to have a
more visual way to look at valence electrons for elements. This method of thinking helped the perspective
of looking at valence electrons and how those valence electrons bond with other chemicals or substances.
That method is called the Lewis dot structure. When Gilbert Newton Lewis was learning how to draw the
Lewis dot structures, he actually found useful information on what element people were working with. In
Lewis dot structures; there are important bits of information like electron location on where the electrons
are the number or types of bonds, and perhaps the shape of the atom.
In element bonding or the elements electron placement, it is very important to take note of. This concept is
important because when figuring out the location of the electrons, you can find out what needs to bond or
exchange with other elements that it wants to. Also when finding out the electron placement of the element,
this can show the properties of the element. This part of the atom that is capable of doing this is the valence
orbital or valence shell. Another piece of important parts of a Lewis dot structure is the shape or geometric
shape of the atom. In order to discuss and predict chemical properties, you have to understand at least the
shape or figure of the atom. When you understand this concept, you can maybe learn about the element or
the atom s mass, electronegativity,

Separation Of P-Acetamidobenzoic Acid
The objective of this procedure is to produce a sample of p acetamidobenzoic acid from the oxidation of p
acetotoluidide with potassium permanganate.
Procedure Part A Preparation of p Acetamidobenzoic Acid
In a 250 mL Erlenmeyer Flask, 5 g (0.02 mol) of magnesium sulfate crystals were mixed with 1.9 g (0.013
mol) of p acetotoluidide in 125 mL of de ionized water. The resulting solution was placed on a hot plate and
was steadily boiled until the solution reached 85°C, or until the solution reached a gentle boil (it was
emphasized that the solution should be heated slowly, in order to maximize the efficiency of the reaction).
While this was occurring, a separate solution was prepared from 5.1 g (0.032 mol) of potassium
permanganate and 20 mL of boiling water, which were placed in a separate 250 mL beaker, which was
placed on a slowly heating hot plate (in order to keep the solution as warm as possible, but not warm
enough that the water could evaporate). It was observed that this solution was characterized by a very
distinct purple color, and a small amount of precipitate could be observed at the bottom of the beaker. Once
the p acetotoluidide solution had reached a gentle boil, it was vigorously stirred with a stirring rod, and
every so often (about every 5 minutes) a small portion of the potassium permanganate solution was added to
the solution; at this point, it was emphasized that the potassium permanganate solution, or the oxidizing
agent, should be added in small

  • 3. Essay on European Nationalism Case Study---Catalan European Nationalism Case Study Catalan During the development of Europe, Nationalism played an important role. Initially, in the 19th century, a wave of nationalism swept the whole continent of Europe from romantic nationalism to a variety of European countries .Subsequently, there were some new countries in the different ways to initialize their movement on nationalism, such as the Romantic exaltation of feeling and identity and the Liberal requirement that a legitimate state be based on a people rather than, for example, a dynasty, God, or imperial domination. (Paul Halsall, 1998). Since then, the concept of nationalism ascended to the historical stage. In this essay, the main research will be focused on the Catalan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Eventually, in the early 20th century, as a result of promotion to the movement by some clandestine political leaders, the first modern political party in Catalonia, Lliga Regionalista, was founded .Later, it formed an alliance with other Catalanist forces later, grouped in the so called Solidaritat Catalana, and won the elections with the regionalist program that Enric Prat de la Riba had formulated in his manifesto La nacionalitat Catalana (1906). (Daniele, 1997). Over all, essentially, this movement tremendously promoted the autonomy and independency for Catalonia. In conclusion, Catalan Nationalist movement is regarded as a movement of nationalism in nations without states. Crucial to the development of nationalism in nations without states is the existence and position occupied by the potential elite (Guibernau, 2000) .During the whole Catalanism movement and development of Catalonia, it is obviously that intellectuals play an essential role in provoking this progress, especially in the maintenance of the Catalan language and culture. Initially, in the result of long year repression by Catalans, there was a wide gap between intellectual elites and the masses, which threatened the survival of the Catalan language and culture but gradually through three main phenomena, which are the Nova Canco, the Assembly of Catalonia and the proliferation of solidarity actions , this individual elite movement into a mass ... Frank And Mustard Frank and Mustard gather the historical information from the sixteenth century and note that the authorities during this period recognized that famines were man made rather than natural disasters not because food was not available but because of the lower classes inability to obtain it or gain access to it (p.3). The state interfered, which angered farmers, producers, and merchants and contributed to the grievance against Charles I and the Civil War. The Tutor Stuart program of food relief, this policy change subjected England to nearly two centuries of periodic famines, food riots because of distribution and not production (p.4). The decrease in mortality rates over the over the past 150 yrs. has been attributed to four factors according to the UN report in 1953. Those factors are; 1) public health measures;2) advances in medical knowledge and therapeutics;3) improved personal hygiene; and 4) improved standard of living (p.5). Mckeown and Brown s attempts at understanding why health improved, explored factors which influenced the major decline in mortality rates in the United Kingdom after 1840 (p.5). They cited a large decline in mortality from airborne diseases, water and sanitation systems in the 1800 s and finally concluded that the decrease in mortality was due to improved prosperity and nutrition (p.5). These factors are discussed in modern times as Dr. Steven Woolf gave his testimony to the U.S. Senate in 2013, that as an example, 68% of American adults have income that is more than twice the poverty level. Suppose we boosted that number just slightly, from 68% to 70% and looked at the impact on one disease diabetes. That higher income would mean about 400 million fewer cases of diabetes saving $2 billion per year to treat that disease (p.1). Increasing income contributes to lower health issues and chronic disease. The applied simplistic equation of increased income decreased health issues is phenomenal, but why are we a society in which inequalities in health still ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Glaucoma Research Paper A common misconception is that glaucoma is a singular disease, in fact, it is a collaboration of many diseases in the eyes that cause glaucoma. these diseases can often lead to loss of vision but, if caught early, glaucoma, or the smaller diseases which lead to it, can be treated. Like many other diseases, if caught early, the lasting effects will lessen. The most effected part of the eye is the optic nerve. The optic nerve s main purpose is to connect the retina and the brain, as to send what the human is seeing to the brain to process the visual information. The optic nerve contains more than one billion nerve fibers which each give off their own electrical impulses to send the visual information to the occipital lobes in the brain. The occipital lobe then processes the information which it receives. The most prominent type of glaucoma is Open Angle Glaucoma. Open Angle Glaucoma occurs due to the build up of fluid in the eye. In a fully functional eye, the fluid is secreted continuously and drains out in the open angle where the iris and the cornea meet. Although the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 9. The Pros And Cons Of Voter Turnout Voter Turnout Elections happen all over the world in various countries on different scales. Some elections can be for the president of a country while others can be for city council members. With all elections come a voter turnout. Voter turnout can be measured in a number of ways. According to Fairvote, some ways to measure are by percentages of either the amount of eligible voters, registered voters, or by the total population that is old enough to vote in that designated area (Measuring Voter Turnout). The U.S. and Texas both have low voter turnouts compared to others and struggle to increase them. Voter turnout is always an important aspect when it comes to a measurement of participation from the citizens for the election. Compared to other democracy countries, the U.S. does not have a high voter turnout for elections. Against other developed countries that have a democracy government, the U.S. ranked 31 out of 34 in voter turnout (Long). The percent that the U.S. has for its voting age population that participated in the most recent national election was 55.7% while the percent of registered voters that participated was higher at 86.8% (Desilver). There are various reasons why the U.S. voter turnout is how it is. Different countries conduct their elections in numerous ways that make them unique. • 10. Summary Of Videotape By Don Delillo How can we determine what s real? The mass media were once thought of as holding up a mirror to, and thereby reflecting, a wider social reality. Now that reality is only definable in terms of surface reflection of the mirror was once said by Dominic Strinati (1992). The short fiction, Videotape, was written by Don DeLillo in 1997 published in one of his novels Underworld (1997). The themes of postmodernism and how the role of mass media forms false representation, resulting in changes of the meaning behind events, is centered on the story Videotape . The impact of media attracts the society to postmodernism with the obsession of violence. Don DeLillo was influenced by several historical events surrounding him such as the Vietnam war, John F. Kennedy Assassination, the Civil War Rights, and the revolts that occurred afterwards. The material in his novels are described as, Living with the dangerous times (Nance, Web). Don DeLillo was born on November 20, 1936 in Bronx, New York. He didn t grow up with an interest in writing until his teenage years, where he began reading during a summer job. The first novel he has ever written was called Americana, which was finally published in 1971. The story, Videotape, demonstrates that the society is centered on death and violence through media because it is viewed as more realistic than the actual event. One of the key points in the story is that the accessibility of technology creates realism, which portrays daily life ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Evaluation and Critique of Iamsar Manual Vol Iii Abstract The research paper is an evaluation, appraisal and constructive criticism of the International Aeronautical and Maritime Search and Rescue Manual, Volume III (version 2008). The success of coming up with the paper relates to the completion of three practical lectures at the university of Plymouth simulator. In addition, also a deep investigation assisted in supporting the material of this paper. The practical section of the research involved dividing the class into six groups of three people, and each group leads a ship to work on specified search and rescue scenario. Most importantly, the first time operators benefit from the manual use in identifying their roles, search and rescue courses. All real Americans love the sting of battle...Americans love a winner and will not tolerate a loser. Americans play to win all the time...That s why Americans have never lost and will never lose a war. Because the very thought of losing is hateful to Americans This quote from the 1970 biopic of General George Patton illustrates the worldview of Americans during and immediately following World War II. When the new battle of the Cold War began, the Soviet Union became our new enemy, to be absolutely and utterly defeated by any means necessary. Not only was each advancement by the U.S. a victory, but each one by the USSR was implicitly a failure. This mindset culminated in the U.S. Soviet Space race, a struggle to obliterate the other side technologically while leaving no room for collaboration. This presentation seeks to explain the history of the event, as well as the positive and negative effects of the competitive factor. To briefly roadmap how this presentation will proceed, I will first explain the contributing factors that went into starting the conflict, followed by how it began. Then, I will follow by highlighting some major accomplishments from both sides. From there, I will explain the media s take on the events as they unfolded, how the race ended, and finally conclude with an analysis of how the race positively and negatively impacted the world. • 14. Essay on The Film Black Orpheus and the Myth of Orpheus... The Film Black Orpheus and the Myth of Orpheus and Eurydice The story of Orpheus and Eurydice is one that has been passed down through generations for thousands of years. Almost every generation has heard a rendition of how Orpheus and Eurydice fall in love with one another and are eventually parted by death. I say rendition because this myth is passed on by word of mouth, which in return causes the story to change depending on the story teller. This may also have a great deal to do with the different interpretation people form about the story. Black Orpheus, directed by Marcel Camus in 1959, is an interpretation or modern rendition of the Greek myth, Orpheus and Eurydice. Although this film does not adapt the literal meaning of the ... Upon finding this, he races up stairs in an attempt to meet her when the elevator doors open. Once he reaches the point where the elevator stops, he is very disappointed at what he sees. To his dismay, the woman he has been chasing up numerous of stairs is not Eurydice. At this point of the scene, I believe that Orpheus is traveling through the second river of the underworld, Acheron, which is the river of woe. Orpheus is in such despair when he realizes that the woman on the elevator is not Eurydice. His body language as he walks from the hospital is full of wretchedness. Benedito reaches out and holds his lifeless hand in support. As they leave the hospital, instead of Orpheus realizing that Eurydice is dead, he continues to forget that she has been electrocuted and continues his quest in finding her. He decides to go to missing persons to see if she is there. This is when I feel as though he has entered Lethe, the third level of his journey to the underworld. • 15. The State of Nature and its Implications for Civilization... The State of Nature and its Implications for Civilization in Hobbes and Rousseau In his Leviathan Thomas Hobbes expresses a philosophy of civilization which is both practical and just and stems from a clear moral imperative. He begins with the assertion that in the state of nature man is condemned to live a life solitary, poore, nasty, brutish, and short. It is in the interest of every man to rise above this state of nature and to give up certain rights so that the violent nature of the human animal can be subdued. Jean Jacques Rousseau s vision of the state of nature parallels that of Hobbes but for its more optimistic tone: I assume that men reach a point where the obstacles to their preservation in a state of nature prove ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hobbes argues for the rule of a monarch for his peace centered civil society. He believes that a monarch who understands the basis for the covenant, who adheres to it and truly recognizes the importance of justice for all of humanity, is the most efficient and trustworthy method of transcending the state of nature. For Hobbes the most important aspect of justice is keeping the peace through adherence to the natural law. Peace reigns supreme in his vision of civilization and a strong ruler who can pass laws to ensure that his subjects respect the covenant is needed. Although such a government might be granted a dangerous amount of power, nonetheless an overarching sovereign with knowledge of the natural laws is needed to keep in line those who would abuse the liberties granted them through the covenant, thus threatening the society with a return to the state of nature. Rousseau, in contrast, sees a true transcendence of the state of nature as including more than simply peace. His goal is more ambitious than Hobbes s. • 17. Lung Cancers And Its Effects INTRODUCTION What are lung cancers? Lung cancers are the abnormal cells which grow in uncontrolled manner in one or both lungs. They do not function as normal lung cells and do not develop into healthy lung tissue. The abnormal cells can grow, form tumours and interfere with the normal functions of the lung (Lungcancer.org, 2015). Lung cancers can be divided into two major types, namely non small cell lung cancers (NSCLC) and small cell lung cancers (SCLC). NSCLC can be further classified into three main subtypes, namely adenocarcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and large cell carcinoma (Longo Harrison, 2012). Lung cancers can be diagnosed by chest X ray, computerised tomography (CT) scan, positron emission tomography computerised tomography (PET CT) scan, bronchoscopy and biopsy (Nhs.uk, 2015). Unfortunately, lung cancers are often diagnosed at the later stages. This is due to the unrecognisable symptoms and warning signs at the earlier stages. NSCLC are often diagnosed at stage IV which accounts for 30 40% of cases whereas 60% of SCLC is diagnosed at stage IV. Lung cancer usually originates from the cells lining the bronchi, bronchioles and alveoli. Carcinogens especially tobacco smoke will alter the gene expression of the normal human lung cells, resulting in cell mutation. The proto oncogenes will be converted to mutated form, oncogenes. Mutation leads to the decreased expression of the tumour suppressor genes. This results in uncontrolled cell proliferation, cell ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Who killed the defenseless little girl? The JonBenét Ramsey murder was one of the most chilling cases of its time. The investigation caught the public eye around the world and was a center for tabloids, newspapers, and TV news alike. Now, twenty years later, the world is still captivated by this bizarre crime. This destroyed physical evidence. Besides this, John was alone when he discovered the crime scene, so there is nobody else to confirm or deny what happened upon finding her. Local police found no sign of forced entry, further pointing blame towards someone who was already in the home (Crimefeed). A few things in the note tie evidence to John Ramsey, as well. For one, the money demanded for ransom was $118,000. That is a strange amount to ask for, especially seeing as it was the exact amount John received for a Christmas bonus (Statement Analysis). Why would a killer have that number on their mind while writing a ransom note? The note also gives the Ramsey s a 10 a.m. deadline before the kidnappers were to kill JonBenét, but John and his wife let the deadline pass without alerting authorities (Rolling Stone). Later, a detective heard John on the phone making plans to fly his family to Atlanta. Perhaps we should look on the outside of the Magic Kingdom where the world and the people are real; real just like you and me. The discussions were quite interesting as we shared the misconceptions many had on how Disney World would bring major changes to the economy. There would be jobs, jobs, jobs. Introduction This essay will explore the role of music with regards to the formation and transformation of identities within the emo subculture contrasting it to the dance music tradition. The subculture of emo music engulfed many young adults of today s generation including myself and those who were drawn to its spectrum and their affiliation to the music will allow for an in depth analysis of points made by scholars which will allow me to contrast the emo subculture to that of dance music. Dance music has become increasingly popular in the current popular music scene and it offers a distinct contrast to emo music. Therefore, this provides a genuine contrast that can be anaylsed and by exploring the contrasting features of these two music forms and their cultural traditions, it will be possible to conclude the role of music in how it forms and transforms identities today. As a teacher, I would implement Plato s strategies by using the Socratic teaching method as illustrated above. Leonard Nelson writes in The Socratic Method that this method of teaching focusses on giving students questions rather than answers, thereby allowing the students to interact and seek truth. For this reason, the student becomes the center of education, and the teacher becomes the facilitator of information. This is why Plato writes in Meno that knowledge will not come from teaching, but it will come from questioning (Thompson). I enjoyed the Socratic seminars in high a school because it allowed me as a student to search for answers to the given question, and I had immediate feedback from my peers. As a teacher, I would like to use this method occasionally because I value critical thinking rather than passively receiving information. • 38. Criminal Behavior And Social Control Our society is at the will of two fundamental forces: deviant behavior and social control. Behaviors that are not deemed as socially acceptable, or that do not fall in line with what society calls normal , are deviant. Social control aims to influence people s behaviors and is a means of moderating, as well as preventing deviance. The two forms of social control are informal and formal social control. The former consists of self control and relational controls (Owen, Fradella, Burke, Joplin, 2012, p. 103) while the latter uses governmental resources to deter deviance in its citizens. In my opinion, informal social control is a better deterrent of criminal behavior since your own will and how you are raised can be the greatest forces driving a person to live a good life or choose to start one. Informal social control comes down to two forms of interactions the ones that you form with yourself that develop your conscience and those that you experience with others. The first, internal, can not necessarily exist without the second, external, because we learn and gauge what is right or wrong from the environments and people around us. Our parents encouraging us to go to school, stay away from drugs, and raising us to be responsible members of society is an example of external social control. In contrast to informal social control, formal social control employs alternative methods of behavioral control. According to Owen, Fradella, Burke, Joplin (2012), Donald Black, a ... Men are the rulers, some women have limited power, and most women are controlled and have no power. The representatives of these women with limited power in the novel are the Aunts . They are the women who are convinced that this kind of rule of Gilead is justified. The Aunts like Aunt Lydia, belongs to the class of women assigned to coach the Handmaids with the beliefs of Gilead and it is her words that drum the ideology of the new society into the heads of the women. • 42. Taxes In America Essay Taxes are accumulated from the people for two main purposes in today s world. First, they are used to provide for a number of public goods, such as infrastructure and public education. Second, these taxes are used to redistribute income from the economically successful to the less successful. Taxes are a massive component for any country; they are used to help grow and provide for a number of sufficient facilities to its numerous citizens. Without taxes in our country, it is extremely hard to fund the systems that are a necessity for society to operate as it should. Tax rates depend upon a country s economic and social goals. In the following paragraphs, the views of America s liberals, conservatives, and then my personal views on this topic will be shown. Stefan Folster in his essay regarding the subject says, A second reason why lower taxes may affect self employment is that lower taxes often imply lower expenditure on unemployment benefits, early retirement benefits, and other subsides to non work. Specifically Learning mentors are placed in schools to raise pupils attainment, improve attendance and to reduce permanent and fixed term exclusions. According to Hayward (2001), Learning Mentors have had an incredible impact on individual pupils lives, in some cases transforming low achieving and unfocused students with minimal self esteem and a lack of commitment into more confident pupils with higher grades, improved motivation and a sense of direction. Valence Electrons and Gilbert Newton Lewis Lewis Dot Structures Throughout the 20th century, Gilbert Newton Lewis, found a way on how to have a more visual way to look at valence electrons for elements. This method of thinking helped the perspective of looking at valence electrons and how those valence electrons bond with other chemicals or substances. That method is called the Lewis dot structure. When Gilbert Newton Lewis was learning how to draw the Lewis dot structures, he actually found useful information on what element people were working with. In Lewis dot structures; there are important bits of information like electron location on where the electrons are the number or types of bonds, and perhaps the shape of the atom. In element bonding or the elements electron placement, it is very important to take note of. This concept is important because when figuring out the location of the electrons, you can find out what needs to bond or exchange with other elements that it wants to. Also when finding out the electron placement of the element, this can show the properties of the element. This part of the atom that is capable of doing this is the valence orbital or valence shell. Another piece of important parts of a Lewis dot structure is the shape or geometric shape of the atom. In order to discuss and predict chemical properties, you have to understand at least the shape or figure of the atom. Procedure Part A Preparation of p Acetamidobenzoic Acid In a 250 mL Erlenmeyer Flask, 5 g (0.02 mol) of magnesium sulfate crystals were mixed with 1.9 g (0.013 mol) of p acetotoluidide in 125 mL of de ionized water. The resulting solution was placed on a hot plate and was steadily boiled until the solution reached 85°C, or until the solution reached a gentle boil (it was emphasized that the solution should be heated slowly, in order to maximize the efficiency of the reaction). While this was occurring, a separate solution was prepared from 5.1 g (0.032 mol) of potassium permanganate and 20 mL of boiling water, which were placed in a separate 250 mL beaker, which was placed on a slowly heating hot plate (in order to keep the solution as warm as possible, but not warm enough that the water could evaporate). It was observed that this solution was characterized by a very distinct purple color, and a small amount of precipitate could be observed at the bottom of the beaker. Once the p acetotoluidide solution had reached a gentle boil, it was vigorously stirred with a stirring rod, and every so often (about every 5 minutes) a small portion of the potassium permanganate solution was added to the solution; at this point, it was emphasized that the potassium permanganate solution, or the oxidizing agent, should be added in small ...
