The Causes Of The Great Fear Of 1789
7. The causes of the peasants uprising known as the Great Fear of 1789 was the peasants impatience
and want to take matters into their own hands because they were furious with being forced to deal
with the most of the taxation, the church tithes, and the nobles abusing their privileges effecting their
lives. The cause that pushed them over the edge to begin the uprisings was the rise in the price of
bread. The outcomes of the uprising were the destroying of feudal documents, enclosed lands raided,
and most importantly the Nation Assembly having no choice but to issue a decree on August 4, 1789
that abolished all noble privileges including the hunting rights, the fees for legal cases judged in a lord
s court, forcing peasants to work on roads, along with the abolishment of tithes.
8. The documents of the National Assembly were the August Decree, The Declaration of the Rights of
Man and of the Citizen, the Civil Constitution of the Clergy, and the Constitution of 1791.The
Enlightenment ideas are reflected in each one like in the August Decree, the National Assembly
revokes the nobility s privileges and serfdom over the peasants in which they violated their natural
rights of especially liberty by John Locke as well as the economic ideas of Adam Smith of abolishing
guilds. The freeing of the serfs reflected Diderot s ideas. The Declaration of the Rights of Man and of
the Citizen reflects the Enlightenment ideas of the government protecting the people s natural rights of
life,

Jane Long is the mother Texas she has been through so much, she has accomplished so many

Procter amp; Gamble: A Case Study Analysis
Abstract
Procter amp; Gamble is a consumer goods company that began in 1837 and has grown to be a leader
of its industry. It has over 800 brands worldwide, 25 of which generate more than 1 billion dollars in
sales, including Tide, Downy, Always, Oral B, Crest, Gillette, Febreze, Swiffer, and Duracell.
However, in the last 10 years, P amp;G has experienced a loss of sales. Through an analysis of the
company and its history, its visions and goals, a SWOT analysis, and the Porter s Five Forces Model,
the problems Procter amp; Gamble face will be identified, discussed, and possible solutions and
recommendations will be given.

Through the 9 years of Lafley s leadership, P amp;G updated all of its 200 brands by adding
innovative new products (Dess, Lumpkin, Eisner, amp; McNamara, 2014, pg. C199), including a
battery powered brush called Tide StainBrush, and creating new products, like Crest White Strips.
Lafley also changed the belief that all new and innovative products had to be created within Procter
amp; Gamble, stressing that many new products should be created elsewhere. This Connect and
Develop model of innovation allowed the company to get almost 50 percent of its new product ideas
from outside the firm (Dess, Lumpkin, Eisner, amp; McNamara, 2014, pg. C199).Along with
continued innovation, Lafley also pushed for P amp;G to move away from basic consumer products
such as laundry detergents , which can easily be knocked off by private labels, to higher margin
products (Dess, Lumpkin, Eisner, amp; McNamara, 2014, pg. C199). This included the acquisition of
Gillette, Clairol, and Wella, as well as offering designer fragrances through license agreements.
When Lafley stepped down as CEO of P amp;G in 2009, he left McDonald with some problems,
including some beyond his control, such as the recession of 2008. Some of these issues include the
lack of blockbuster ideas from the Connect and Develop program (however, this program did help to
reduce expenses for P amp;G) and increased competition from companies like Unilever and

Humorous Weddings
I can still remember my brother s weddings, seeing them go off with their significant others, and
always wondering if and when I would eventually do the same. Who would I marry? Who would I
eventually call my spouse and grow old with? I always knew someone was out there and from the
moment that I met your daughter, I knew it was her. I honestly do not know how I got so lucky.
Hayley is perfect in every single way imaginable and I cannot stress to you how appreciative i am of
that. From the very bottom of my heart, thank you for raising her the way that you did, surrounding
her in the stable, loving environment of your home and for instilling in her the values that I hold dear.

Environmental Quality and Biofuels
Environmental Quality
The use of biofuels as mandated by RFS.2 has a net positive impact on environmental quality. One of
the key reasons for the adoption of this program was to provide an alternative to fossil fuels that could
offer better energy efficiency and lower green house gas emissions. The environmental quality has
been analyzed through four criteria much like in the report by Ackom, Mabee and Saddler (2010).
These are: Greenhouse gas emissions, Energy use, Water use and Land Use Change.
Energy use: In their report Ackom, Mabee and Saddler (2010) state that the energy use is primarily
defined by the electric energy that goes into the bioconversion process. This analysis considers
efficiency in production and manufacturing process. According to this, biofuels (both 1st and 2nd
generations) are reducing considerable amount of energy used in the extraction and manufacturing
process as compared to non renewable resources. Roughly evaluated values of energy saving of some
of the common biofuels are noted as follows (relative to fossil fuels): sugarcane (89%), switch grass
(85%), wood (82%), soybean (45%), corn (43%), wheat (42%). These figures are very promising and
continue to ameliorate as technology, and research and development improves.
Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions: When tested to compare the GHG emissions, biofuels preform
much better than conventional fuels. However, within the biofuel spectrum there is a range of
efficiencies. For example, the according to

One Day In The Life Of Ivan Denisovich
The novel One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, follows the life of Ivan Denisovich Shukhov, a
Stalinist labor camp prisoner of the Soviet Union. The story only spends one day in Shukovs life in the
camp, but throughout this one day, Shukovs struggles and hardships in the camp are shown. This day
is filled with his daily struggles and chores, but to him, it ends up being a good day. Throughout the
novel many themes are shown. One major theme, in One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, is the
battle for humanity and dignity. There are many examples in the novel of the prisoner s dignity being
taken away from them, yet they somehow still manage to go on living their lives in the labor camps,
with the little dignity they have left. In the novel, Shukov and the other prisoners have little to no
control over their own lives, which is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

not feel well. He is denied the day off after being examined and having his temperature taken, when he

26). Here, Shukov is not surprised when he is denied the day off of work. His dignity is affected,
because he has no control over his own life and even sickness cannot help him. No sympathy from the
guards is shown to any of the prisoners in the camp, this goes hand in hand with how Stalin shows no
sympathy for anyone in the Soviet Union and it represents the decay of individuality, during this time.
No one had control over their own lives, in the novel, even the prisoner s thoughts and feelings are

The Road Not Taken By Robert Frost Analysis
Life is difficult because no one can be sure if the choice they make will actually lead the outcome they
wished for. The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost, one of the most recognizable poems in American
literature, speaks to choices people face in their life. The speaker has to make a right choice for him,
that will lead to the outcome of being what he really wants to be. The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost
uses symbolism, imagery, personification, and metaphor, to explain its theme that choices made by the
one s strong wish of what one really wants to be, will ultimately lead to the desired outcome. The
poem uses symbols to indicate the choices that the speaker faces in life. The two diverged road
symbolize the two significant choices that diverge the future of speaker s life. The fork in the road
indicates the point in the speaker s life where he can go no farther without making a decision that
takes him down one path and does not allow him to take the other. The yellow wood (1) indicates fall
when the leaves turn yellow in the forest. Fall is a symbol of the waning years of speaker s life,
meaning that the speaker is past his youth when he can make a choice with the confidence that it is
correctable at a later time. Therefore, the choice that he will make is permanent and highly impacts the
rest of his life. Imagery and personification are used to describe contradiction in the process of making
a decision between the two paths. Since he cannot take both roads, the speaker looks down the road
but cannot see beyond the undergrowth, which expresses the fact that no one knows what the future
will bring. Much of the imagery in the poem is visual to describe the path to show the speaker s
indecisiveness of choosing a certain path. He wants to choose the path that is less traveled so he
chooses the path that is having perhaps the better claim (7), which is the path that is grassy and wanted
wear (8), a personification to describe that road is not stepped by other people. However, he realizes
that there is no appreciable difference between the two paths because both that morning equally lay In
leaves no step had trodden black. (11,12) The contradiction with the serious tone shows perplexity that

Misinterpretation Of Law
Representing oneself as a lawyer in court is known as self representation or self litigation. This
practice is not advised as it can lead to more problems than advantages for the accused. Disadvantages
may include unfair treatment in the court of law, misunderstanding due to minimal or no legal
background, and a greater possibility that the court system will suffer in the process. It is important to
be aware that most individuals who decide to participate in this practice do this out of great
desperation and lack of money (Grant, 2015). This creates panic and uneasiness which reflects how
they portray themselves in the courtroom. For this reason, advocating should be strictly done by
lawyers. According to the Ottawa Citizen, the accused may ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This is greatly due to the fact that this is cost free for the accused. This may seem like an advantage at
first, but in the end it is definitely not. When litigants choose to represent themselves in the court of
law they are given a great amount of responsibility. They are expected to manage their time wisely, so
that they have enough time to understand the law, interpret it, and organize it into an effective and
efficient way that fits their case (Feldstein, 2016, p.9). All legal documents and important information
relevant to the case must be brought forth in order to achieve the desired outcome. If they do not
understand the material, bring insignificant information and evidence to court then this becomes an
enormous disadvantage to them and to the entire court process. In regards to the court process, there is
a large amount of money that is distributed between court clerks, court reporters, judges, and
courtrooms in general (Makin, 2012). Thus, if self representatives do not come prepared to court, this
wastes a lot of time and money for everyone involved. This practice creates an immense amount of
tension that would not happen if a lawyer was in charge. Self litigation places a great burden on not
only the court system,

My First Day In School
This past year from when I was a little seventh grader to now has been quite interesting. The first day
of school was on my birthday and I started off sick. Yeah, it wasn t very pleasant. I missed the first
three days of school. When I was better, I was very scared and nervous for all the new teachers and
classes. I knew most of the seventh and eighth grade teachers, but I had never been in their class
before. Soon, I learned that they were all extremely nice and loved to teach. I had tried to memorize
my schedule before, so I wouldn t go to the wrong class. My first class was art, and then math,
science, lunch, P.E., language arts, quest, and finally social studies. I remember Mr. Munford told us
that he hopes we would be a pretty good class. I think our class turned out pretty well. I was involved
in many fun activities last year. One of them was FCA which stands for fellowship of christian
athletes. FCA was extremely fun because we met on Friday mornings before school and we got to eat
doughnuts and things like that and then we would talk about different things that involved with
Christians. Another activity I was involved in was C.L.O.W.N. troupe it was pretty funny seeing
everybody s clown costumes. The veteran clowns had to help train the new clowns that joined that
year. All the clowns had to create a presentation to present to little kids. Our presentation for the year
was about sharing and having good manners. We never got to go to the other schools and

Perspectives on Foster Care
In the past few decades there has be an increasing amount of children placed in the foster care system.
With the amount of rising teen pregnancies and maternal drug abuse means increasing numbers of
infants abandoned at birth. There have been many cases of child abuse or neglect that have been on
the rise. State and local agencies are unable to suitably supervise foster homes or arrange adoptions.
Statistics show that many children will spend most of their childhood and teenage years in the foster
care system, which has shown to leave emotional scars on the child. Today, Child Welfare groups are
looking for federal funding and legislation to increase programs and services aimed at keeping
families together.
Child welfare systems typically receive and investigate reports of possible child abuse and neglect;
provide services to families that need assistance in the protection and care of their children; arrange
for children to live with foster families when they are not safe at home; and arrange for reunification,
adoption, or other permanent family connections for children leaving foster care. When you look up
what the Child welfare system it says,

In What Ways Do Family Members Or Friends Try To Persuade
COMMENTARIES ESSAY ROUGH DRAFT
Today I am writing essay over our Unit 4 Rhetorical Analyses class discussion. The topic was, How
do family members or friends try to persuade you? In what ways do your friends or family members
persuasive strategies differ from the ways advertisers try to persuade people? There are numerous
ways to try to persuade someone, but for me, my family, and friends they try to persuade me through
the use of pathos and ethos. Advertisers typically use techniques like scare tactics or promising the
buyer happiness in order to persuade you to buy their product. In this article I will compare the
differences between advertisers and family and friends persuasive strategies.

and lastly using sex and proactive imagery. (Suggett, Paul) My person experiences with advertisers

Besom Research Paper
The definition of a Witches Besom is a handmade broomstick (typically 14 feet long) made from
twigs and herbs and used to purify, cleanse, and protect. The Besom is traditionally crafted using ash
wood for the handle, birch twigs for the bristles, and willow bark for bindings, it can however be
crafted using anything of the individuals choosing. Early Celtic pagans associated the broom with
Faeries. This was most likely due to it s relationship to the wood and a common belief in forest sprites.
There does in fact exist stories which tell of a Witch entering a forest and asking the Faeries to guide
her on her way to find the perfect tree where she can collect a staff for a broom. It was believed that
enlisting the help of the magikal folk would in turn ensure the enchantment of the broom once it has

How you choose to store your Besom when not in use is completely your choice however, it should
always be stood standing straight up (bristles up) as a sign of respect. One way that the Besom is
connected to fertility involves An ancient ritual where witches would take their besoms out into the
fields at planting time, riding them around and jumping into the air in an effort to show the crops how
tall they should grow. This is also the origin of the stereotypical Halloween image of a witch riding a
broom over a field of crops. Up until recently I was completely uneducated about what a witch s
Besom was, in fact I had never heard the word used at all. Since then I have done my research on the
term and even created one of my own. In my own personal practice I now find my Besom to be a very
important item amongst my ritual supplies. In fact I am saddened by the pure fact that I practiced my
craft for so long without it. It is very important for me to cleanse and purify my sacred space before
performing a ritual of any kind, and I use my Besom to do so. The most common misconception
regarding this item is the stereotype that witches use

When the first power point hit in the movie, it was when Warner feels he s better than Elle, because he

when Elle became the attorney for Brooke Windham, which was on trial for the murder of her
husband. In the beginning Elle feels very afraid, but she gain her confidence and won the case. With
this big win not only did Elle gain confidence, she also receive power, which was the two main things
she was lacking when she first enter into law school.
Main conflicts took place within the entire movie. Many were big and some were small. The first of
many conflict was when Elle and Vivian first met. Next was when Elle s teacher tried to make moves
on her. But the one I feel was the biggest of all conflicts was the on Elle was battling within herself. In

Analysis Of The Story Cathedral
Cathedral The story Cathedral demonstrates that lack of sight does not necessarily prevent one from
perceiving things as they are, or live their life to the fullest. In the story, a middle age blind man, who
is a friend to the narrator s wife, and used to be her boss at one point, visits the narrator and his wife.
The narrator has never interacted with blind people before, and all he knew about blind people was
what he had seen on television. Blind people are stereotypically portrayed on television as slow
moving, dull people, who never laugh. Based on this perception, the narrator was reluctant to meet the
blind man and doubted whether they were going to connect. This is evident when the narrator states, I
wasn t enthusiastic about his visit. He was no one I knew. And his being blind bothered me (Carver 1).
The doubt the narrator had towards blind people his further evident when the blind man arrives at his
house. On seeing the blind man for the first time in the parking lot, the narrator noticed that the blind
man had a beard, but he thought that it was unusual. This is evident when the narrator remarks, This
blind man, feature this, he was wearing a full beard! A beard on a blind man! Too much, I say (Carver
4). The skeptical view, the narrator had towards blind people is further brought out when the narrator
was being told about the death of the blind man s wife. The narrator could not imagine a man
marrying a woman, living together, and having sex with

The Inevitability Of Interdependence In Interpersonal...
As long as there exists a relationship between two people, which tend to be closer, chances of conflict
occurrence are enhanced; hence the inevitability of conflict principle as mentioned by Cahn and
Abigail (2014). From the case above, is has been depicted that interpersonal conflicts arise among
individuals who are important to each other, and are to continue being together in various contexts,
hence a sense of interdependence (Cahn Abigail, 2014). There is an automatic mother child
interdependence in one way, or another hence conflict is inevitable. This inevitability is also portrayed
by Hertz (2015) while elaborating on conflict management with patients. It is the prolonged
relationship between the patient and the doctor that increases the chances conflict occurrence. Both of
them are important to one another in that the patient needs to be well while the doctor wants to gain
from the patient after offering the treatment services, hence the interdependence. Canary (2013) has
also highlighted the interdependence concept as a key initiator of conflict among family members.
According to him, the interdependence creates the family system. He has also expressed the fact that
positive behaviour, between family members, in conflict interaction is a key propeller of conflict
management. This applies to the case above, in that the calm response to the mother challenged her
and provoked resolution in her, about her prior behaviour.

Introduction:
The C S H gel is the most abundant reaction product in cement, occupying about half of the paste
volume, it is also responsible for most of the properties of cement paste. This is just not because it is a
strong or stable phase but because it forms a continuous layer that binds the cement particles together.
All the other hydration products of cement form discrete crystals that are naturally strong but do not
have good connections to the solid phases they are in contact with hence cannot contribute much to
the overall strength of the cement paste. C S H gel gets the ability of the to act as a binding phase from
its nanometer level structure.
As C S H gel grows outward from the cement particles, it does not form a single large block or
monolithic solid phase but instead develops a complex internal system of tiny pores, called gel pores.
Gel pores are hundreds or thousands of times smaller than the original capillary pores which are
relatively large. The liquid water present in the gel pores is not part of the solid C S H phase
chemically but it is physically isolated, thus it cannot undergo any further chemical reaction with the
cement.
When hydrated cement paste is observed under microscope at moderate level of magnification, we
could see two apparently different types of C S H gel. One of these gel is less dense and more porous
that appears to occupy

Legend By Marie Lu Literary Analysis
The main characters, Day and June have no reason to cross paths, until the day June s brother, Metias,
is killed. Day becomes the most suspected killer. While Day is trying to make sure his family survives,
June wants to kill whoever ended her brother,Metias s, death. As the story unravels its dizzying twist
and turns, the two realize the reason they came together in the first place.
The book ,Legend, by Marie Lu was a breathtaking page turner. I normally don t enjoy reading, yet
with this novel I couldn t seem to put the book down. In the depths of this story was a rebellion
against a leading group of a capital and a poverty, stricken group being ruled over. The end of every

Rikki Phillipi Quotes
A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out. Walter Winchell
It is difficult to stand by family and friends through hardships, but Rikki Tikki Tavi protected his
family through close deaths and life threatening moments. Rikki Tikki Tavi by Rudyard Kipling is a
fictional fable that demonstrates that people should protect anybody that they care about.
To begin with, Rikki Tikki Tavi is a brave mongoose and will do anything to protect his family. For
example, the author states, Tricked! Tricked! Tricked! Rikk tck tck! chuckled Rikki tikki. The boy is
safe, and it was I I I that caught Nag by the hood last night in the bathroom (para 96). Rikki risked his
life to distract Nagaina by beckoning her away ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the author states Rikki tikki had a right to be proud of himself, but he did not grow too
proud, and he kept that garden as a mongoose should keep it, with tooth and jump and spring and bite,
till never a cobra dared show its head inside the walls (para 109). The author is using personification
to give Rikki human like attributes of. This also shows that Rikki will do his best to protect the garden
by giving Rikki Tikki Tavi human emotions. Personification conveys the message that the fearless
creature will protect anybody that he cares about. For instance, the author also states Come then,
Nagaina. Come and fight with me. You shall not be a widow long (para 96). This demonstrates that the
author is using personification through Rikki speaking to display the message of his loyalty to protect
his family. Consequently, he is threatening Nagaina to fight him in order to distract Nagaina so she
will not hurt Teddy. Rikki realizes that if the eggs hatch the newborn cobras could kill the whole
family and everybody in the garden. Then, Rikki could easily abandon the house and leave the family
to die. Knowing this, he still stays and forms a plan to destroy the eggs and protect everybody. This
ultimately shows that Rikki Tikki Tavi will try to distract Nagaina and draw her attention from Teddy
by putting himself in danger. In

Era Of Good Feelings Dbq Questions And Answers
How did economic policies after the War of 1812 reflect the nationalism of the period?
President James Madison enforced many economic policies that greatly reflected nationalism. The
economic policies included the creation of the second national bank which purpose was to provide a
stronger currency since the former currency was not always reliable and plentiful. Creating a stronger
currency would strengthen the national economy. Another example was the Tariff of 1816 that was
issued to protect industries against foreign competition therefore strengthening the economy. Also, the
creation of internal improvements such as canals, roads and developments in transportation would to
improve commerce and economy. These efforts to strengthen the economy and America in general
shows that people were filled with nationalism and wanted to confirm that America is the greatest
nation.
What characterized the Era of Good Feelings?
After Thomas Jefferson left office, James Monroe succeeded him and served as president. James
Monroe s administration left America at peace and also the economy prospered. In Boston

Passer To Play Volleyball
A new sport was invented by William Morgan in 1895. Morgan was an instructor at a YMCA and
blended elements of basketball, baseball, tennis, and handball to create this new sport. (Evdokimoff
2011) Since the ball was volleyed over a net, it soon became known as volleyball. According to
Evdokimoff, the first official game was played at Massachusetts College in 1896. Volleyball is
considered an easy sport to those who have never played; however, it involves many skills, much
determination, and constant communication. On the offensive end, passing is the first thing that must
be done.
In order for the setter to set the ball, the passer must make a good pass. The passer has to judge
whether or not the serve or the hit is in or out. Next, a passer will move his or her body behind the
ball. While staying low, the passer then turns his or her shoulders towards the target, the setter. It ...

The hitter s first job is to try to block the opposing team s attack. Then the hitter must get off the net
and be ready for the set. If the ball does not come, the hitter must cover the person who is hitting. In
an attacking situation, the hitter must jump, make contact with the ball at its highest peak, and snap the
wrist. In volleyball, all players have a specific job, but must rely on each other to get individual jobs
done. Communication is the biggest key to a good volleyball team. First, a passer must call the ball if
able to make the pass. If players do not talk and claim the ball, it may hit the floor. Also, the setter has
to tell his or her teammates if he or she can get to the second hit. Finally, everyone who is not hitting
should talk to the hitter. It is imperative to share where to place the hit, if tipping is a better option, and
how many blockers there are. Miscommunication could cost the team a point or even the game. The
game of volleyball is all about working as a team and

He then got caught as a burglar and was put in prison. As in many aspects of his life, the book gave
more details of Malcolm s life inside the steel bars. Since no one was in jail with him that was

While in prison, Malcolm hears about the Nation of Islam through his family. The leader of the group,
Elijah Mohammed had a central idea that all white men were devils. In learning this, Malcolm thought
back to all of the white people he had previously encountered. It is easier for us to understand
Malcolm s thought process after reading the book, since the film did not tell us of all of his
relationships with white people. Malcolm then converted to Islam.
Replacing his last name with X did more than just change his name, it changed his personality. He
changed his last named because he did not want to be connected in any way with his old last name that
was given to his ancestors by slave owners. The film really let us know his displeasure with his old
last name. During an interview, Malcolm refused to tell his interviewer his given last name. I felt as
though the movie was very helpful in learning about him as Malcolm X. The book would tell us about
how Malcolm gave powerful speeches and little details about his preaching but you cannot replace the
actual footage of his speeches. On several occasions,

Some of the factors which counselors must be aware of include: cultural differences, environmental

suspected abuse or neglect, the same is not
COUNSELING MINORS: ETHICAL AND LEGAL 5 extended for failure to report such suspected
occurrences (Remley Herlihy, 2010). Counselors may be hesitant in reporting such information if they
are struggling ethically with releasing confidential information but should keep in mind that the ACA
(2005) Code standard A.4.a., discusses the counselor behaving in such a way as to avoid harm to their
client. This may pose another ethical dilemma to the counselor who must now determine if either
reporting the suspected abuse or the possible deterioration of the trusting therapeutic relationship due
to the reporting, would cause more harm to the client. The counselor must be vigilant in ensuring that
personal values or feelings regarding the situation do no influence their decisions
(ACA, A.4.b., 2005)
Addressing the Issue The counselor should utilize clinical skills to determine additional information
regarding the suspected abuse or neglect (Remley Herlihy, 2010). This attempt at gathering additional
information is supported in the ACA Code of Ethics. The ACA (2005) Code section B.1.b. explains
that to be respectful of a client s privacy, gathering only information that is necessary for the
counseling process is acceptable. When reporting the counselor should disclose

Hematologic manifestations: Hematological abnormalities are common in SLE and are the most
common presenting manifestation. All the cellular elements of the blood coagulation pathway can be

SLE. The most common forms of anemia are autoimmune hemolytic anemia, iron deficiency anemia,
anemia of chronic disease, drug induced myelotoxicity, anemia of chronic renal failure and rarely
types such as pure red cell aplasia, B12 deficiency anemia and myelofibrosis (Samohvalov et al.,

occurs in the absence of cytotoxic drug therapy used in the treatment of lupus, it is not a significant
risk of infection (Leandro et al., 2003). Autoimmune thrombocytopenic purpura can be a presenting

The Biological And Physiological Mechanisms Of Action,...
Transgenic or Genetically Modified (GM) crops are plants used in agriculture that have been
genetically modified using recombinant DNA technology. The aim for GM plants/crops is to express a
gene or a trait that is not found in the species of the plant. The scientist that modify the plants insert a
foreign gene into the plant s original DNA. As a result to the modification, the plant receives
characteristics within the genetic code. Most, GM plants become resistant to pesticides, however there
are other variables within transgenic crops. Since the genes of humans, plants, and bacteria are all
created from the same genetic material; scientist have a variety of genes to choose from, when
modifying. Within plants, genetic modification occurs in steps . There are five major steps in the
development of a genetically engineered crop. But for every step, it is very important to know the
biochemical and physiological mechanisms of action, regulation of gene expression, and safety of the
gene and the gene product to be utilized 1. The first step is mapping; Mapping is locating and isolating
the desired gene before extraction. Once the gene is extracted, it must be cloned. Many copies are
made of the isolated Gene; gene cloning isolates the gene from the entire extracted DNA. Once it is
cloned, the gene of interest is designed and packaged so that it can be controlled and properly
expressed inside the host plant. Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) is the cloning process, and it

Reading For The Emotional Level

level; the work affects them, producing joy or revulsion, laughter or tears, anxiety or elation (Page

of reading books. I still think that analyzing books as a piece of work instead of reading for the
emotional level somewhat takes the joy out of the experience. However, it only brings a different type
of joy to reading. If not on the emotional level, readers can enjoy tying the similarities of one story to
another. Piecing the different parts of characters and plots that resemble another story gives more

Although, I never summed that process up as in this chapter. Readers gain experience and knowledge
throughout their life, then they put this knowledge to use when they encounter a story. Looking for
matching themes and archetypes helps give a story depth. However, not everyone has the same
experiences, that s what making a connection to a book is so unique. This example is from a small
story that can equate to one of the Knight in Shining Amour tales. When I read a poem or story, I can
mostly relate it other stories such as the example shown. This process helps to show a greater
resonance and meaning to the story and gives the story another tale to be compared and contrasted
against. Although I did notice some similarities in literature, I never made it a habit of looking for
them. This chapter has explained the process and helped me to notice how those similarities help

Woman Hating
Dworkin writes scathingly on footbinding in her book Woman Hating, alleging that in obtaining a
crippled wife, a man glories in her agony, he adores her deformity, he annihilates her freedom, he will
have her as a sex object, even if he must destroy the bones in her feet to do it. Brutality, sadism, and
oppression emerge as the substantive core of the romantic ethos. (Dworkin 112). Jeffreys quotes the
above from Dworkin in her own analysis of feet binding, ultimately concluding that foot binding was
the nascent precursor of a wave of prostitution which swept China. Indeed, Jeffreys adopts the

Their arguments only point out how women are incapacitated or used as objects. However, as Brown s
field study showed, this analysis fails to comprehensively address causative forces of male dominance
from an economic standpoint. Though they are right in identifying male lust as the driving force
behind the subjugation of women, what is misunderstood are the consequences of such lust, which do
not cease with direct harm or objectification of women. By engaging in beauty practices, women are
not only rendered playthings, which is what the three seem to suggest, but are additionally retooled to
fit subservient economic roles, which serve to heighten and establish the hierarchal dominance of
men. Applying this economic perspective provides greater resolution and understanding of patriarchal
hierarchies. As Karen A. Callaghan observes in her introduction to the anthology Ideals of Feminine
Beauty: Philosophical, Social, and Cultural Dimensions, The gender hierarchy is sustained by beauty
norms that define women s power, self assertion and worth in terms that reify male dominance.
(Callaghan ix). Understanding the consolidation of male dominance necessitates defining these
hierarchies in a way that describes how female subservience is produced. It is important to note that
these hierarchies are multifaceted and exist as political, social,

Theme Of Feminism In Anthem, By Ayn Rand
Anthem is Against Feminism
In the novel Anthem, by Ayn Rand, the theme of female inferiority is shown throughout the novel.
Rand has been known to portray women as obedient and submissive to men in most of her novels. In
Anthem Rand shows how women are inferior to men by; showing that a woman s highest priority is to
follow a man, that men can eliminate and redetermine a woman s identity, and that women are only
there to fit the needs of a man.
In the novel, Liberty begs to never be left behind while they are in the Uncharted Forest because she
cannot live without him. Rand s view on the responsibility of women in a society is that women are a
minority in the government. Rand shows the lack of importance of females in government because,
there were five members of the Council, three of the male gender and two of the female (25 26). She
shows that the opinions of women do not have as much value as the opinion of a male. The inequality
in government represents the imbalance in opportunities and rights for women and the majority vote
favoring the men takes away the voice of the women in government. After Liberty and Equality run
away to the Uncharted Forest, Liberty shows her allegiance to Equality when she tells him: we have
followed you... and we shall follow you wherever you go. ... Do as you please with us but do not send
us away from you (82 83). Liberty promises her obedience that she will die with him if she needs to.
Rand creates the picture of a woman to sit at the feet of men and support their every need.
Equality renames Liberty two times; this is Rand s way of demonstrating man s dominance over
women. Someone s name is their identity, so him changing her name to what
he sees best is changing her into what he wants her to be. The first time he names her the Golden One
(41), and then again when they are in the forest, Gaea... the mother of a new kind of gods (99).
Equality shows that he has complete control over her and whatever he wants her name to be is what
she goes along with. When Equality sees Liberty for the first time he describes her hair as; golden as
the sun; their hair flew in the wind, shining and wild, as if it defied men to restrain it. (39). It is ironic
when Equality says that

Islamophobia
Many people remember September 11, 2001 as a day when 19 Muslim extremists hijacked four
commercial airplanes and flew them into sundry buildings and areas across the United States. This
includes the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., a field in Pennsylvania, and the place where the most
damage occurred, the North and South Twin Towers in New York City. Over 3,000 people were killed
in these attacks, mostly workers in the towers and the Pentagon who were of all races and religions
including Muslims, Sikhs, and Hindus. Calamities like this should bring people together so that they
may comfort one another after a great loss. Instead, it drove people apart out of fear of their safety in
their own homes. People should remember this day as a tragic event that took the lives of many
innocent people, instead many Americans remember this day as the day the Muslims attacked
America. This is why Muslim Americans have become pariahs post 9/11 because, of the amount of
conflation that has occurred with Muslim Americans and Sikh Americans, the amount of anti Islam
behavior practiced in America involving various ideologies of Islam, and the amount of disrespect
shown towards Muslim Americans in America on a daily basis. Conflation plays a big role in Muslim
Americans becoming pariahs post 9/11. Conflation of certain religions and races, is usually the

Prioritising conflicting needs
Often customers will need help information or reports from me at the same time. As I am the sole HR
practitioner in my work place it is important for me manage my time effectively. I will make a list of
the jobs I need to get done and then check the deadline for each and prioritise in order, often there are
conflicting needs, when this happens I contact the customers involved and let them know that I have
other jobs that need doing with equal importance often talking this over resolves the problem and
deadlines are moved or I am able to send parts of reports over and send the rest at a later date.

  • 2. The Causes Of The Great Fear Of 1789 7. The causes of the peasants uprising known as the Great Fear of 1789 was the peasants impatience and want to take matters into their own hands because they were furious with being forced to deal with the most of the taxation, the church tithes, and the nobles abusing their privileges effecting their lives. The cause that pushed them over the edge to begin the uprisings was the rise in the price of bread. The outcomes of the uprising were the destroying of feudal documents, enclosed lands raided, and most importantly the Nation Assembly having no choice but to issue a decree on August 4, 1789 that abolished all noble privileges including the hunting rights, the fees for legal cases judged in a lord s court, forcing peasants to work on roads, along with the abolishment of tithes. 8. The documents of the National Assembly were the August Decree, The Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen, the Civil Constitution of the Clergy, and the Constitution of 1791.The Enlightenment ideas are reflected in each one like in the August Decree, the National Assembly revokes the nobility s privileges and serfdom over the peasants in which they violated their natural rights of especially liberty by John Locke as well as the economic ideas of Adam Smith of abolishing guilds. The freeing of the serfs reflected Diderot s ideas. It has over 800 brands worldwide, 25 of which generate more than 1 billion dollars in sales, including Tide, Downy, Always, Oral B, Crest, Gillette, Febreze, Swiffer, and Duracell. However, in the last 10 years, P amp;G has experienced a loss of sales. Through the 9 years of Lafley s leadership, P amp;G updated all of its 200 brands by adding innovative new products (Dess, Lumpkin, Eisner, amp; McNamara, 2014, pg. C199), including a battery powered brush called Tide StainBrush, and creating new products, like Crest White Strips. Lafley also changed the belief that all new and innovative products had to be created within Procter amp; Gamble, stressing that many new products should be created elsewhere. This Connect and Develop model of innovation allowed the company to get almost 50 percent of its new product ideas from outside the firm (Dess, Lumpkin, Eisner, amp; McNamara, 2014, pg. C199).Along with continued innovation, Lafley also pushed for P amp;G to move away from basic consumer products such as laundry detergents , which can easily be knocked off by private labels, to higher margin products (Dess, Lumpkin, Eisner, amp; McNamara, 2014, pg. C199). This included the acquisition of Gillette, Clairol, and Wella, as well as offering designer fragrances through license agreements. When Lafley stepped down as CEO of P amp;G in 2009, he left McDonald with some problems, including some beyond his control, such as the recession of 2008. Some of these issues include the lack of blockbuster ideas from the Connect and Develop program (however, this program did help to reduce expenses for P amp;G) and increased competition from companies like Unilever and ... • 6. Environmental Quality and Biofuels Environmental Quality The use of biofuels as mandated by RFS.2 has a net positive impact on environmental quality. One of the key reasons for the adoption of this program was to provide an alternative to fossil fuels that could offer better energy efficiency and lower green house gas emissions. The environmental quality has been analyzed through four criteria much like in the report by Ackom, Mabee and Saddler (2010). These are: Greenhouse gas emissions, Energy use, Water use and Land Use Change. Energy use: In their report Ackom, Mabee and Saddler (2010) state that the energy use is primarily defined by the electric energy that goes into the bioconversion process. This analysis considers efficiency in production and manufacturing process. According to this, biofuels (both 1st and 2nd generations) are reducing considerable amount of energy used in the extraction and manufacturing process as compared to non renewable resources. Roughly evaluated values of energy saving of some of the common biofuels are noted as follows (relative to fossil fuels): sugarcane (89%), switch grass (85%), wood (82%), soybean (45%), corn (43%), wheat (42%). These figures are very promising and continue to ameliorate as technology, and research and development improves. Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions: When tested to compare the GHG emissions, biofuels preform much better than conventional fuels. However, within the biofuel spectrum there is a range of efficiencies. The story only spends one day in Shukovs life in the camp, but throughout this one day, Shukovs struggles and hardships in the camp are shown. This day is filled with his daily struggles and chores, but to him, it ends up being a good day. Throughout the novel many themes are shown. One major theme, in One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, is the battle for humanity and dignity. There are many examples in the novel of the prisoner s dignity being taken away from them, yet they somehow still manage to go on living their lives in the labor camps, with the little dignity they have left. Here, Shukov is not surprised when he is denied the day off of work. His dignity is affected, because he has no control over his own life and even sickness cannot help him. No sympathy from the guards is shown to any of the prisoners in the camp, this goes hand in hand with how Stalin shows no sympathy for anyone in the Soviet Union and it represents the decay of individuality, during this time. • 9. The Road Not Taken By Robert Frost Analysis Life is difficult because no one can be sure if the choice they make will actually lead the outcome they wished for. The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost, one of the most recognizable poems in American literature, speaks to choices people face in their life. The speaker has to make a right choice for him, that will lead to the outcome of being what he really wants to be. The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost uses symbolism, imagery, personification, and metaphor, to explain its theme that choices made by the one s strong wish of what one really wants to be, will ultimately lead to the desired outcome. The poem uses symbols to indicate the choices that the speaker faces in life. The two diverged road symbolize the two significant choices that diverge the future of speaker s life. The fork in the road indicates the point in the speaker s life where he can go no farther without making a decision that takes him down one path and does not allow him to take the other. The yellow wood (1) indicates fall when the leaves turn yellow in the forest. Fall is a symbol of the waning years of speaker s life, meaning that the speaker is past his youth when he can make a choice with the confidence that it is correctable at a later time. Therefore, the choice that he will make is permanent and highly impacts the rest of his life. Imagery and personification are used to describe contradiction in the process of making a decision between the two paths. Since he cannot take both roads, the speaker looks down the road but cannot see beyond the undergrowth, which expresses the fact that no one knows what the future will bring. Much of the imagery in the poem is visual to describe the path to show the speaker s indecisiveness of choosing a certain path. He wants to choose the path that is less traveled so he chooses the path that is having perhaps the better claim (7), which is the path that is grassy and wanted wear (8), a personification to describe that road is not stepped by other people. However, he realizes that there is no appreciable difference between the two paths because both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. • 10. Misinterpretation Of Law Representing oneself as a lawyer in court is known as self representation or self litigation. This practice is not advised as it can lead to more problems than advantages for the accused. Disadvantages may include unfair treatment in the court of law, misunderstanding due to minimal or no legal background, and a greater possibility that the court system will suffer in the process. It is important to be aware that most individuals who decide to participate in this practice do this out of great desperation and lack of money (Grant, 2015). This creates panic and uneasiness which reflects how they portray themselves in the courtroom. For this reason, advocating should be strictly done by lawyers. According to the Ottawa Citizen, the accused may ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is greatly due to the fact that this is cost free for the accused. This may seem like an advantage at first, but in the end it is definitely not. When litigants choose to represent themselves in the court of law they are given a great amount of responsibility. They are expected to manage their time wisely, so that they have enough time to understand the law, interpret it, and organize it into an effective and efficient way that fits their case (Feldstein, 2016, p.9). All legal documents and important information relevant to the case must be brought forth in order to achieve the desired outcome. If they do not understand the material, bring insignificant information and evidence to court then this becomes an enormous disadvantage to them and to the entire court process. In regards to the court process, there is a large amount of money that is distributed between court clerks, court reporters, judges, and courtrooms in general (Makin, 2012). Thus, if self representatives do not come prepared to court, this wastes a lot of time and money for everyone involved. This practice creates an immense amount of tension that would not happen if a lawyer was in charge. Self litigation places a great burden on not only the court system, ... • 11. My First Day In School This past year from when I was a little seventh grader to now has been quite interesting. The first day of school was on my birthday and I started off sick. Yeah, it wasn t very pleasant. I missed the first three days of school. When I was better, I was very scared and nervous for all the new teachers and classes. I knew most of the seventh and eighth grade teachers, but I had never been in their class before. Soon, I learned that they were all extremely nice and loved to teach. I had tried to memorize my schedule before, so I wouldn t go to the wrong class. My first class was art, and then math, science, lunch, P.E., language arts, quest, and finally social studies. I remember Mr. Munford told us that he hopes we would be a pretty good class. I think our class turned out pretty well. I was involved in many fun activities last year. One of them was FCA which stands for fellowship of christian athletes. FCA was extremely fun because we met on Friday mornings before school and we got to eat doughnuts and things like that and then we would talk about different things that involved with Christians. Another activity I was involved in was C.L.O.W.N. troupe it was pretty funny seeing everybody s clown costumes. The veteran clowns had to help train the new clowns that joined that year. All the clowns had to create a presentation to present to little kids. Our presentation for the year was about sharing and having good manners. We never got to go to the other schools and ... • 12. Perspectives On Foster Care System Marsh 1 Mariah Marsh 11/12/14 Professor Molly Tetrault Analysis Paper Perspectives on Foster Care In the past few decades there has be an increasing amount of children placed in the foster care system. With the amount of rising teen pregnancies and maternal drug abuse means increasing numbers of infants abandoned at birth. There have been many cases of child abuse or neglect that have been on the rise. State and local agencies are unable to suitably supervise foster homes or arrange adoptions. Statistics show that many children will spend most of their childhood and teenage years in the foster care system, which has shown to leave emotional scars on the child. Today, Child Welfare groups are looking for federal funding and legislation to increase programs and services aimed at keeping families together. Child welfare systems typically receive and investigate reports of possible child abuse and neglect; provide services to families that need assistance in the protection and care of their children; arrange for children to live with foster families when they are not safe at home; and arrange for reunification, adoption, or other permanent family connections for children leaving foster care. When you look up what the Child welfare system it says, The major role of the Child Welfare System in the twenty first century is to insure the safety, permanency, and well being of ... • 19. Analysis Of The Story Cathedral Cathedral The story Cathedral demonstrates that lack of sight does not necessarily prevent one from perceiving things as they are, or live their life to the fullest. In the story, a middle age blind man, who is a friend to the narrator s wife, and used to be her boss at one point, visits the narrator and his wife. The narrator has never interacted with blind people before, and all he knew about blind people was what he had seen on television. Blind people are stereotypically portrayed on television as slow moving, dull people, who never laugh. Based on this perception, the narrator was reluctant to meet the blind man and doubted whether they were going to connect. This is evident when the narrator states, I wasn t enthusiastic about his visit. He was no one I knew. And his being blind bothered me (Carver 1). The doubt the narrator had towards blind people his further evident when the blind man arrives at his house. On seeing the blind man for the first time in the parking lot, the narrator noticed that the blind man had a beard, but he thought that it was unusual. This is evident when the narrator remarks, This blind man, feature this, he was wearing a full beard! A beard on a blind man! Too much, I say (Carver 4). As long as there exists a relationship between two people, which tend to be closer, chances of conflict occurrence are enhanced; hence the inevitability of conflict principle as mentioned by Cahn and Abigail (2014). From the case above, is has been depicted that interpersonal conflicts arise among individuals who are important to each other, and are to continue being together in various contexts, hence a sense of interdependence (Cahn Abigail, 2014). There is an automatic mother child interdependence in one way, or another hence conflict is inevitable. This inevitability is also portrayed by Hertz (2015) while elaborating on conflict management with patients. It is the prolonged relationship between the patient and the doctor that increases the chances conflict occurrence. Both of them are important to one another in that the patient needs to be well while the doctor wants to gain from the patient after offering the treatment services, hence the interdependence. Canary (2013) has also highlighted the interdependence concept as a key initiator of conflict among family members. According to him, the interdependence creates the family system. He has also expressed the fact that positive behaviour, between family members, in conflict interaction is a key propeller of conflict management. This applies to the case above, in that the calm response to the mother challenged her and provoked resolution in her, about her prior behaviour. Higgerson (2016) has also handled ... Report On Chemical Composition And Structure Of Csh CE 2020: Construction Materials Report on Chemical composition and Structure of CSH Arjit Soni ES13B1005 Introduction: The C S H gel is the most abundant reaction product in cement, occupying about half of the paste volume, it is also responsible for most of the properties of cement paste. This is just not because it is a strong or stable phase but because it forms a continuous layer that binds the cement particles together. All the other hydration products of cement form discrete crystals that are naturally strong but do not have good connections to the solid phases they are in contact with hence cannot contribute much to the overall strength of the cement paste. C S H gel gets the ability of the to act as a binding phase from its nanometer level structure. As C S H gel grows outward from the cement particles, it does not form a single large block or monolithic solid phase but instead develops a complex internal system of tiny pores, called gel pores. Gel pores are hundreds or thousands of times smaller than the original capillary pores which are relatively large. The liquid water present in the gel pores is not part of the solid C S H phase chemically but it is physically isolated, thus it cannot undergo any further chemical reaction with the cement. When hydrated cement paste is observed under microscope at moderate level of magnification, we could see two apparently different types of C S H gel. One of these gel is less dense and more porous that appears to occupy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. The Biological And Physiological Mechanisms Of Action,... Transgenic or Genetically Modified (GM) crops are plants used in agriculture that have been genetically modified using recombinant DNA technology. The aim for GM plants/crops is to express a gene or a trait that is not found in the species of the plant. The scientist that modify the plants insert a foreign gene into the plant s original DNA. As a result to the modification, the plant receives characteristics within the genetic code. Most, GM plants become resistant to pesticides, however there are other variables within transgenic crops. Since the genes of humans, plants, and bacteria are all created from the same genetic material; scientist have a variety of genes to choose from, when modifying. Within plants, genetic modification occurs in steps . There are five major steps in the development of a genetically engineered crop. But for every step, it is very important to know the biochemical and physiological mechanisms of action, regulation of gene expression, and safety of the gene and the gene product to be utilized 1. The first step is mapping; Mapping is locating and isolating the desired gene before extraction. Once the gene is extracted, it must be cloned. Many copies are made of the isolated Gene; gene cloning isolates the gene from the entire extracted DNA. Once it is cloned, the gene of interest is designed and packaged so that it can be controlled and properly expressed inside the host plant. Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) is the cloning process, and it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Reading For The Emotional Level 1.) Introduction Such readers respond first of all, and sometimes only, to their reading on an emotional level; the work affects them, producing joy or revulsion, laughter or tears, anxiety or elation (Page xxvii). I use to not analyze works because I would think that this factor would alleviate the experience of reading books. I still think that analyzing books as a piece of work instead of reading for the emotional level somewhat takes the joy out of the experience. However, it only brings a different type of joy to reading. If not on the emotional level, readers can enjoy tying the similarities of one story to another. Piecing the different parts of characters and plots that resemble another story gives more insight to both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although, I never summed that process up as in this chapter. Readers gain experience and knowledge throughout their life, then they put this knowledge to use when they encounter a story. Looking for matching themes and archetypes helps give a story depth. However, not everyone has the same experiences, that s what making a connection to a book is so unique. This example is from a small story that can equate to one of the Knight in Shining Amour tales. When I read a poem or story, I can mostly relate it other stories such as the example shown. This process helps to show a greater resonance and meaning to the story and gives the story another tale to be compared and contrasted against. Although I did notice some similarities in literature, I never made it a habit of looking for them. This chapter has explained the process and helped me to notice how those similarities help literature. 175 3.) Chapter 2 Nice to Eat with You: Acts of Communion He discovers he has something in common with this stranger eating as a fundamental element of life that there is a bond between them (Page 10). I never delve so deeply into these instances to notice this phenomenon. Much less notice the impact it has on people sharing this occasion. I did notice that people will not eat if they do not like who is accompanying their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Woman Hating Dworkin writes scathingly on footbinding in her book Woman Hating, alleging that in obtaining a crippled wife, a man glories in her agony, he adores her deformity, he annihilates her freedom, he will have her as a sex object, even if he must destroy the bones in her feet to do it. Brutality, sadism, and oppression emerge as the substantive core of the romantic ethos. (Dworkin 112). Jeffreys quotes the above from Dworkin in her own analysis of feet binding, ultimately concluding that foot binding was the nascent precursor of a wave of prostitution which swept China. Indeed, Jeffreys adopts the dominate theory posited by John Mao, prefacing that Women were dragooned into binding their daughters feet, despite knowing the pain it would cause, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Their arguments only point out how women are incapacitated or used as objects. However, as Brown s field study showed, this analysis fails to comprehensively address causative forces of male dominance from an economic standpoint. Though they are right in identifying male lust as the driving force behind the subjugation of women, what is misunderstood are the consequences of such lust, which do not cease with direct harm or objectification of women. By engaging in beauty practices, women are not only rendered playthings, which is what the three seem to suggest, but are additionally retooled to fit subservient economic roles, which serve to heighten and establish the hierarchal dominance of men. Applying this economic perspective provides greater resolution and understanding of patriarchal hierarchies. As Karen A. Callaghan observes in her introduction to the anthology Ideals of Feminine Beauty: Philosophical, Social, and Cultural Dimensions, The gender hierarchy is sustained by beauty norms that define women s power, self assertion and worth in terms that reify male dominance. (Callaghan ix). Understanding the consolidation of male dominance necessitates defining these hierarchies in a way that describes how female subservience is produced. It is important to note that these hierarchies are multifaceted and exist as political, social, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Theme Of Feminism In Anthem, By Ayn Rand Anthem is Against Feminism In the novel Anthem, by Ayn Rand, the theme of female inferiority is shown throughout the novel. Rand has been known to portray women as obedient and submissive to men in most of her novels. In Anthem Rand shows how women are inferior to men by; showing that a woman s highest priority is to follow a man, that men can eliminate and redetermine a woman s identity, and that women are only there to fit the needs of a man. In the novel, Liberty begs to never be left behind while they are in the Uncharted Forest because she cannot live without him. Rand s view on the responsibility of women in a society is that women are a minority in the government. Rand shows the lack of importance of females in government because, there were five members of the Council, three of the male gender and two of the female (25 26). She shows that the opinions of women do not have as much value as the opinion of a male. The inequality in government represents the imbalance in opportunities and rights for women and the majority vote favoring the men takes away the voice of the women in government. After Liberty and Equality run away to the Uncharted Forest, Liberty shows her allegiance to Equality when she tells him: we have followed you... and we shall follow you wherever you go. ... Do as you please with us but do not send us away from you (82 83). Liberty promises her obedience that she will die with him if she needs to. Rand creates the picture of a woman to sit at the feet of men and support their every need. Equality renames Liberty two times; this is Rand s way of demonstrating man s dominance over women. Someone s name is their identity, so him changing her name to what he sees best is changing her into what he wants her to be. The first time he names her the Golden One (41), and then again when they are in the forest, Gaea... the mother of a new kind of gods (99). Equality shows that he has complete control over her and whatever he wants her name to be is what she goes along with. When Equality sees Liberty for the first time he describes her hair as; golden as the sun; their hair flew in the wind, shining and wild, as if it defied men to restrain it. (39). • 35. Experience Machine Nozick Summary The path towards the experience machine is the path to suicide, because it stimulates false belief. Nozick s objection indicated that the experience machine limit us to man made reality , because there is no actual contact with deeper reality (Nozick 28). For example, a scientist wishes to find a way to cure cancer and is hooked up on the experience machine. Even if the experiment works fantastic in the virtual reality, but once he applies it to the real world, it would not perform as greatly as it did in the virtual world. The scientist believes he created a miracle for cancer patient; nevertheless along that way, he destroys a life because of that false belief. By including a roller screw into the design, one can now get a shifting movement that allows for variation in activity. The writer of a SKF article on roller screws says, They [roller screws] are well suited for ... high rotational speed , higher linear speed . The idea is to have one end of the electric wire circuit attached to the screw to make a spinning up and down motion around the screw. Thus creating the notion that hands are being lifted up and down during a massage. The author says, Recirculating roller screws can simplify a complete transmission and improve its rigidity . By this, the author means that the mechanism by which power is transmitted from one place to another is minimized and made in a much simpler way. Then the author goes on to say, Their great mechanical advantage minimizes input torque and increases application resolution and performance . Meaning that the input twisting force that causes rotation is reduced and the sustained effort and execution that the screw carries out is maximized. In closing, the roller screw will contribute to the fabrication of the innovation by creating a perpendicular motion resulting in up and down movement that contributes to the sensation of a real ... • 37. Islamophobia Many people remember September 11, 2001 as a day when 19 Muslim extremists hijacked four commercial airplanes and flew them into sundry buildings and areas across the United States. This includes the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., a field in Pennsylvania, and the place where the most damage occurred, the North and South Twin Towers in New York City. Over 3,000 people were killed in these attacks, mostly workers in the towers and the Pentagon who were of all races and religions including Muslims, Sikhs, and Hindus. Calamities like this should bring people together so that they may comfort one another after a great loss. Instead, it drove people apart out of fear of their safety in their own homes. People should remember this day as a tragic event that took the lives of many innocent people, instead many Americans remember this day as the day the Muslims attacked America. This is why Muslim Americans have become pariahs post 9/11 because, of the amount of conflation that has occurred with Muslim Americans and Sikh Americans, the amount of anti Islam behavior practiced in America involving various ideologies of Islam, and the amount of disrespect shown towards Muslim Americans in America on a daily basis. Conflation plays a big role in Muslim Americans becoming pariahs post 9/11. Conflation of certain religions and races, is usually the product of ignorance in the religions and races that are conflated together.
