The Portrayal Analysis Of Know Your Rights By The Clash
Know Your Rights by The Clash is a song that criticizes the oppression that poor and working class
people face. This song takes a sarcastic tone and goes over the three basic rights that everyone has. It
becomes very clear that the rights The Clash references are bogus and part of a rigged system. The
Clash released Know Your Rights in 1982. The 1980 s, in England where this band was based, was a
time of major social and political revolution. The Clash s music reflected this, primarily producing
music about revolution and the working class. The Clash s defining elements were their punk rock,
passionate, and enthused sound. They are now known as one of the founding punk rock legends.
Know Your Rights sound and message went a long way in terms of empowering the audience; young
adults, poor and working class people, revolutionaries. One of the most important steps in advocacy is
telling a story that will resonate with the desired audience. Telling a story can be used across all the
media realms, providing your audience with content that is packed with utility, seeded with
inspiration, and that is honestly empathetic, is what draws an audience then, but also incites them to
action (Hadley Chapman 9). Know Your Rights tells the story of how people of traditionally view
lesser socioeconomic classes rights are riddled with injustice and oppressive stipulations. A few
months before The Clash released Know Your Rights, England s manufacturing business took a

TABC Considerations for Olive Garden Analysis
Beverage Management Project #2
TABC Considerations for Olive Garden Analysis In order to offer a viable platform in which
restaurants can offer alcoholic beverages as part of their drink line, the Texas Alcoholic Beverage
Commission has created a set of guidelines which establishments must utilize in order to initiate a
more responsible service to the community. According to the TABC guidelines (2014) these guidelines
should clear following national, state, and local laws when offering alcohol to patrons, such as
ensuring that alcoholic beverage is only served to those over age 21 (checked if they appear to be
under 30), a valid Texas driver s license, or another valid identification must be used, and employees
must refuse service to anyone that does not fit these criteria. However, there are also TABC guidelines
(2014) which are state defined, such as the need to refuse service to anyone that appears to be
intoxicated, prohibit employees from serving customers to the point of intoxication, offer mediation
for intoxicated customers who wish to leave the premises in such a state, and adhere to the TABC
certification regulations. A secondary goal, to this extent is also to meet the mixed beverage gross
sales tax requirements at a rate of 6.7% after Jan.1, 2014 and 14% prior to Jan. 1, 2014, as well as the
mixed beverage sales tax, which was implemented after Jan. 1, 2014. In order to draw more insight
into the subject, the Olive Garden restaurant has looked up.

Aboriginal People s Life
Life was phenomenal for the Aboriginal people, they were living a great, cheerful, and peaceful life
until one explorer arrived, they saw a massive ship that sailed on to their land. A man named
Christopher Columbus came. After that day, all the Aboriginal people s life became abominable. The
Europeans brought with themselves a new lifestyle, tradition, language, culture, and beliefs. It

Critical Analysis of a Passage from Horace Walpole s...
Horace Walpole s The Castle of Otranto, is acknowledged by many as the first gothic novel. It was the
first of it s kind and many of the conventions used by Walpole, which put it in a literary genre of it s
own, were continued by authors such as Ann Radcliffe and Matthew Lewis. Many of these defining
characteristics can be seen within the very first few pages of the text and for the purposes of this essay,
to identify some of these conventions used and the relevance of this text to modernity I shall focus this
analysis on the passage between pages twenty four and twenty six from the Oxford World s Classics
edition.
The gothic novel emerged during the late eighteenth century and the Age of Enlightenment , which
emphasised rationality ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Otranto, Walpole challenges his societies views of modernity and transgresses social laws by
introducing the theme of incest into his novel with Manfred preying of his deceased son s betrothed,
Isabella. This brings into play three defining features which became prevalent within gothic novels of
the late eighteenth century: women in distress; women being threatened by powerful males; and the
major theme of fear and in this example, specifically female fear. Isabella, a young, virginal woman
becomes half dead with fright when faced with potential rape and becoming a spoiled woman at the
hands of the powerful and threatening Manfred. Such suggestions, by Walpole s age were seen as
scandalous and caused moral outrage, a thread that was carried through the gothic genre. This new
genre may have provided for many, an escape from the rigid world of enlightenment. It brought to
them a world of imagination and allowed them to immerse themselves in a world which had been
morally forbidden and they could do it from the privacy of their own homes, allowing their
indulgence, and perhaps, immoral thoughts to go unnoticed, providing a way for the darkness and
immoral thoughts to come alive outside of the novel. At the end of the novel however, society s moral
ideals surface as Manfred retires to a convent after the realisation of his sins and order is restored. In
this way, although Walpole is exposing his readers to these ideas, he would

Chinese Immigration To America
Immigration has always been a topic of controversy (now more than ever). However, many Americans
tend to forget their ancestors were all very much immigrants most migrating to America in the pre
Civil Wars days such as the Germans, Irish, and Chinese. Immigrants traveled to the United States for
many reasons. The Irish sought after a future in America after a potato famine left many families in
great poverty and suffering from starvation. The German and Chinese also came in search of a better
life, to provide for their families, and to chase after the American Dream. Many Chinese immigrated
to the U.S. due terrible famines in the 1840s, which were caused by a lack of farmland because of
overpopulation. Most Chinese immigrants were poor, hard working men, who left their families to
gain wealth from gold in California in the hopes of returning back to China. Although these men were
very hardworking (so much so that Westerners called them coolies from k u li meaning hard strength),
Americans soon became jealous of their prosperity and picked up the slogan California for Americans.
Taxes were even imposed specifically to aim at the Chinese. Life was also rough for Chinese women;
it was against Chinese tradition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fortunately for the Irish, Germans, and Chinese, their livelihoods would leave an impression on
American society sparking major political and military changes. These minorities would eventually
gain political and economic power in the nation s major cities, turning America upside down and
forever creating the unique interracial nation, which would become a haven for multitudes of
immigrants and refugees to come. The history of the 1800s immigrants will hopefully be a lesson to
today s political and civil peoples and serve as a reminder of the hardships our ancestors endured for
the possibility to achieve the American

Fun Facts About Football History
Abstract:
Hey you guys and girls, today we will be discussing the things that I love to talk about the most, the
game of football its history. Throughout this essay we will be hitting on the following topics: three fun
facts about football; who deserved the game of football and how; who was the first four players to
diversify the game of football; Who were the first colleges to pick up the game of football; a visual
and results of survey in with I conducted by asking mi classmates five random questions about the
game of football; and finally what makes the game better and/ or worse than it is today.
From the early ages in history to the present day, the game of football has always been an important
part of society. In a way It teaches its players things like: self discipline, how to be a team player, how
to interact with others and it s also a good source of physical activity. Throughout history the game
itself has changed; from the first rounded ball that was to throw, to the modern prolate spheroid
shaped ball of today that is air dynamic and easier to throw (how it s made). But hears the biggies
question, is the game of football better now than it was in in its prime. I would say my reason for
picking this topic, would be because most people like me love the game football, but there are some
who love the game as well, but don t know or keep up with the changes rule and/ or polices.

Science And Its Effect On Society Essay
Science is the process which discovers knowledge, knowledge in turn is power, and power is said to
bring about corruption. Therefore, through the transitive property, that implies that science will only
lead to corruption. Not necessarily a corruption of one s actions; for instance, science won t make a
politician accept a bribe. However, some would argue that science will lead to a degradation of
morals. For example, contemporary science may lead to a woman viewing her unborn baby as naught
but a ball of cells, similar to a tumor, which can be removed from her body with no moral dilemma.
The converse to this is the impediment of science due to humanity clinging to its archaic values. This
can be shown by the opposition to stem cell research and genetically modified embryos in the name of
morals and the inviolability of life. The stark contrast between following morals and advancing
science creates a juxtaposition that often manifests itself as a debate between religion and science.
Certain members of both the scientific and religious communities blindly adhere to their own opinions
and ideals. This butting of heads helps no one. As a result, a middle road must be found, one in which
neither progress nor morality are ignored. The polarity between these two forces is encapsulated by
the differences that Bertolt Brecht draws in his play Galileo between Galileo and the clergymen. This
play, when contrasted with the reality of Galileo s studies, provides a vehicle to discuss the

My Most Memorable Experience In My Life
My heart was pounding out of my chest as I walked through the frigid, pitch black forest alone. I
could hear was the sound of the night wind blowing against the trees, crickets chirping in the tall grass
all around me, the stream flowing peacefully on my right, and my unsteady breath, which seemed like
the loudest. I walked, step by step, along a path I could barely make out. Am I going off the trail? I
questioned myself, and kept walking through the silent forest. I was on my first, and only solo night
hike in Yellowstone, Wyoming. This was a night that I will remember forever.
Over the summer, I took a trip to Yellowstone, Wyoming with thirty eight other eighth graders and
high schoolers. The trip lasted almost two weeks and was one of the most memorable experiences in
my life, but there was one night that impacts me every single day since. On the third night that we
were staying at our campsite, my friends and I were getting ready for bed and hanging out around the
bonfire when the camp counselors made an announcement.
Everyone meet at the bonfire at 10:30 and bring nothing with you. No backpacks, phones, flashlights,
absolutely nothing. Dress warm because it s going to be cold tonight! announced Miss Flower, one of
the counselors.
My friends and I looked at each other, confused. What were we going to do? Where are we going?
What is going on? There were so many questions overfilling our minds, that none of the counselors
would answer. Time seemed to pass so slowly as we waited for an hour until we were supposed to
meet. No one had any idea what was going on, or what the night was going to hold. When it was
finally time, we hurried over to the bonfire to figure out what was happening. We were shocked when
Miss Flower just told us to just follow her and the other counselors down the dirt road by our tents.
She didn t answer any questions, where we going, what we were doing, absolutely nothing.
We followed the counselors down the path, which led us to a one lane highway. Everyone crossed
quickly, even though there were no cars to be seen. There were no lights anywhere, except the soft
illumination from the stars above us. After crossing the highway, we walked in tall grass for a few
minutes which

Emily Dickinson Metaphors
Today, many people undervalue the significance of emotion, often time ignoring them or try to
suppress them. However, in her poems Hope and Have You A Brook in Your Little Heart, Emily
Dickinson remarks that emotions important because they offer insight to one s inner being. They wield
one s dynamic perspective, allowing one to expand their understanding their circumstances. By giving

The Effects Of Video Games On The Psyche Of Kids And...
Since video games are a relatively new medium of artistic expression and entertainment, not much is
known about the effects of continual exposure to them, especially at a young age. The effects of
violent media on the psyche of kids and adolescents has been a pressing concern for many years now,
as stated in a study conducted by Tortolero et al. (2014), where it is observed that most other studies
done on the subject of video games were mainly focused on aggression (p.609). In the current attempt
to identify a relationship between video games and the attitudes of youths, the researchers have
decided to instead focus on levels of depressive symptoms and the amount of time spent playing video
games through a cross sectional analysis (Tortolero et al., p.609). The researchers have focused on the
branch of psychology focused on mental health, clinical psychology (King, 2014, p.16), and the
psychological problems associated with prolonged exposure to violent video games, specifically in
preadolescents. The study was meant to observe the levels of depressive symptoms in children who
played violent video games using the Major Depressive Disorder Scale of the DISC Predictive Scales
to identify these symptoms which included lack of pleasure, lack of interest in activities, concentration
difficulties, low energy, low self worth, and suicidal ideation (Tortelo et al., 2014, p.610 611).
The purpose of the study was to see if there was a correlation between the amounts of time spent

Much Ado About Nothing Benedick Essay
In my oral final, I will be exploring who the character Benedick is, from the comedic play Much Ado
About Nothing by William Shakespeare. I will speak a little about his identity at the beginning of the
comedy, then who he is compared to metaphorically, and finally about the development of his
character throughout the play.
Initially, Benedick appears as a character meant entirely for comic relief, acting as if the most crucial
part of his personality is his wit and humor. However, by the end of the play he is noticed as someone
who can think clearly and make important decisions.
The biggest change in Benedick s character is risen from his relationship with Beatrice. And we can
see this throughout the story as they are unable to converse ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

At the beginning of the play, Benedick is portrayed as a character that strongly despised the idea of
marriage and love, although these feelings slowly start to change as the comedy progresses. In the
play, Benedick states that I never did think to marry (Act 2 Scene iii) even though he later declares I
did not think I should live till I were married (Act 2 Scene iii). Through these quotes it is clearly
shown that Benedick is self contradictory, which marks a critical turning point for the development in
Benedick s character as his earlier opinions of marriage,

Uncertainty with defining the clinical attributes of Apraxia of Speech has been debated in the literature
dating back to 1960 s when Darley (1975) first introduced the term Apraxia of Speech (AOS).
However, the idea of a motor speech disorder existing with preserved language skills and unimpaired
muscular function was originally introduced by Paul Broca in the 1800s (Broca, 1861). McNeil et.al,
(2004) defines AOS as a neurogenic communication disorder affecting the planning and programming

Effects Of Drought On The Great Depression
In the 1930s, drought maintained its negative influence in all of the Plains for nearly 10 years. The
drought s primary characteristics of damage are regarded as agricultural for the most part. High
temperatures, lack of rain, insect infestations, and heavy winds all in unison with the dust storms that
accompanied these detrimental instances damaged countless crops. In addition to the Great Depression
s bank closures, various economic damages, increased unemployment, and other hardships, the
agricultural depression just worsened the situation in America. It is also important to note that the lack
of precipitation may have most likely affected the overall conditions of plant life and wildlife in a
negative manner, as well as caused potential shortages of water for various conventional purposes.
Although this almost always goes unnoticed by most readers, it is extremely important to
acknowledge such regressions as they appropriately contribute to the overall negative and destructive
connotation of the Dust Bowl in its respective era.
A total of four consecutive separate waves of droughts accompanied each other during the 30s: 1930
31, 1934, 1936, and 1939 1940 . Due to the incompetency of affected regions to adequately recover
from any of the recurring droughts, the entire series of droughts was thought of to be a single drought
by the inhabitants of affected areas. It was in the year 1932 when fourteen distinct dust storms were
reported, which rose to an astonishing 48 total

The Death and Life of Great American Cities Analysis
The Death and Life of Great American Cities
The Conditions for City Diversity analysis
Part two of Death and Life explains several conditions for city diversity based on the observations of
different American cities and discusses in depth the four factors that Jacobs believe are critical for the
development of a city. The basis for generating diversity lies in these conditions, and cannot be
secludedly achieved by planning and designing. This part lays out the foundation and is the basis for
the rest of the book. It shows urban planning and many possible remedies for creating equal diversity,
and studies why these are not applied and the effects of it not being so.
These four conditions state that internal parts must provide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

With these four conditions she diagnoses why cities fail at equal diversity, and how it could be
formulated.
Primary functions are those who bring people to specific places, to ensure safety in regions and from
economic views such as people passing by shops to ensure incomes in certain places. Jane Jacobs
underlines the importance of time spread, to create balance in the district. The need of short blocks is
described with the example of Manhattan, where the use of long blocks segregate walking citizens and
isolate people socially as well as economically. She argues that frequent streets and short blocks are
more valuable since they provide cross use of the streets. Most shops are dependant on people passing
by each day, and short blocks could control the passings and create a diverse and balanced income for
them.
The mixture of buildings of different conditions are necessary to public life because it otherwise
would be neither interesting nor fascinating. But the main reasons are because they ensure low rent
yields, encouraging the growth of small enterprises. Large swatches of new construction would only
prevent income since not many would afford it, and the demand for it would not be as large as it
would need to be.
Equal diversity created by a dense concentration of people is a necessity, since the other factors will
have no effect if this condition is not

The Importance Of The Scientific Method
The scientific method in the twenty first century represents a major role of testing our hypothesis
whether it is in the industry, school, market, or in our lives. We are constantly coming up with theories
or ideas and conducting experiments on these ideas without even realizing it. The scientific method
allows us to expand our knowledge in certain fields that we are mastered in or helps us learn new
possibilities that we are not aware of. The use of chemistry and the scientific method is important to
incorporate into our lives and society.
The Scientific Method
The scientific method is defined as a way of learning that emphasizes observation and
experimentation to understand the world (Tro, 2015, p. 6). The scientific method involves major
characteristics such as an observation. When making an observation, it can simply be by looking at a
sample with your eyes or by using instruments that can make observing a sample easier, such as a
microscope. Next, the scientist would formulate a hypothesis. Formulating a hypothesis is simply
stating what the scientist observed and what they want to explore and measure. Following the creating
of a hypothesis comes conducting an experiment using the hypothesis. Conducting an experiment is a
highly controlled observations designed to validate or invalidate hypotheses (Tro, 2015, p. 6). Lastly,
the scientific method concludes with laws and theories. In some cases, experiments and observations
can lead to the development of a

Cultural Issues In Canada
Cultural issues are complicated ones to solve. Sometimes it is even tough to express opinions about
them. It is an area where one has had to establish one s bona fides before weighing in. The audience
has to be assured that the commentator loves Canada more or at least as much as the next person and
is willing to stop at nothing to protect our culture. Trade consultants wanting to mine the cultural field

need not even bother hanging up a shingle.
Of course, this is all rather silly. What we need for Canadian culture is less blather and more strategy.

Should we continue to incarcerate these non violent offenders or divert them away from the prison

system because it will free up law enforcement resources to fight violent crime. Georgia has been
treating the symptoms of addicted and mentally ill prisoners, criminal behavior, rather than treating
the root cause of those symptoms. As a result, spending on corrections has skyrocketed, with
corrections becoming the biggest driver in state budgets.

numerous adversities familiar to other externally oriented development strategies, as well as: extreme
unfamiliar reliance, the support of socioeconomic and space inequity, environmental devastation, and
increasing cultural separation. There are many types of tourism which move the people of the cities
and one of them is favelas tourism. Favelas are precarious or informal settlements that grow around or
inside the same big cities. Favelas are settlements which lack of property rights, and constitute
agglomerations of very low housing. They began to run in 1990s, and over the years have
incorporated new areas. People living in these places suffer basic needs of urban and social services
equipment. They are also located in geologically unsuitable and environmentally sensitive areas. In
these places is also a high incidence of crime. The favelas offer opportunities for jobs, trade. For
analysis purposes, I have divided reality tours into two main types: social tours and dark tours . It is
important to note, nevertheless, that the boundaries between the two kinds of tours are often far from
evident on the empirical ground. (2) Social tourist sells participation and information and authentic
tourist trips to the Favelas, whereas the dark tours sell the poverty and the misery of the Favelas
tourism performance in impoverished areas. Social or reality tours allow the

How Is Friar Lawrence Responsible
In Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, although many might point to Tybalt as the person responsible for
the death of his own and Juliet it is actually Friar Lawrence, who should be responsible, Friar
Lawrence, who is untrustworthy is most responsible because Friar Lawrence makes many bad choices
throughout the play; choices that are unforgivable. The disloyal character of Friar Lawrence results in
the deaths of Romeo and Juliet because he marries the couple, helps with Juliet s fake death and runs
away from the Capulet s tomb. Friar Lawrence agrees to marry the couple, in the hopes that the
marriage will end the feud between the Capulets and Montagues. Romeo asks Friar Lawrence to
marry them as soon as possible. The Friar replies saying Wisely ... Show more content on

seeks help from Friar Lawrence in hopes that he could delay her marriage with Paris. Juliet tells the
Friar that she would do anything to escape her marriage with Paris. The Friar s tells her to Take thou
this vial, being then in bed, And this distilled liquor drink thou off, (Act 4, Scene 1, 95 96). Another
mistake that the Friar has mad is giving the potion to Juliet. The Friar had many other options to delay
the marriage. Another wrong thing the friar did in this situation was he did not tell Juliet s parents and
he was not careful with getting the right message delivered to Romeo. Some may argue that Tybalt is
most responsible for the deaths of the two star crossed lovers but it is actually Friar Lawrence who
should be held responsible for the tragic deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Friar lawrence later comes to
wake Juliet at the Capulet s tomb. When Friar Lawrence hears the watch he abandons Juliet and leaves
her to kill herself. The friar yells to Juliet Come go, good Juliet. I dare no longer stay,

High Quality Data Quality Analysis
3.1 Introduction
High quality data facilitate a precise analysis and the resulting statistics. Hence, high quality data
assist the organization to increase its business value. This chapter demonstrates the concept of data
quality, the effects of inaccurate data, and the factors that cause low quality data.
3.2 Data Quality
The executive and the top management in organizations seek comprehensive reports and dashboards
to enable them to understand on going processes and facilitate the decision making that improves their
business. However, the decision making process may be influenced by various factors. Data quality is
a critical factor because when the quality of the data is inferior, poor decisions could be made [39]. In
addition, data ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hence, several parties share the responsibility for the quality of data. In addition, J. E. Olson (2003)
observed that the poor data quality resulted from the rapid growth of information system technology
and the prompt evolution in system implementation and frequent changes that complicate and hamper
the quality control process [44]. According to C. Boulton (2016), 57.5% of poor data are caused by
users, followed by 47% caused by data migration and integration, which usually lead to gaps or
duplicate information, and 43.5% caused by changes to source systems (Figure 5) [45].
Figure 5: Causes of poor data quality [45]
Jack E. Olson (2003) defined data quality as data that are linked to their fit for use. In other words,
high data quality is obtained when the data fulfill the requirements and the criteria of its intended
usage. In contrast, poor quality results when the data do not fulfil their requirements [44].
3.3 Dimensions of Data Quality
In previous research, data quality was divided into two main categories: intrinsic and contextual. In
the intrinsic category, value resides within the data, which refers to objective attributes. In the
contextual category, the attributes of the data mainly depend on the context in which the data are
present, used, as well as the situation or problem. Data in the contextual category include the
dimensions of relevance and believability [39],

A Scandal In Bohemia
Introduction:
The story pulled from The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes published 1892 by Arthur Conan Doyle.
Tells the story of Sherlock Holmes, a detective capable of solving even the hardest of mysteries. In A
Scandal in Bohemia Holmes helps the King in retrieving an item from a previous relationship he had
that ended unpleasantly. Although this was a mystery detective story, it was much more than that.
Doyle hid within the text underlying problems during his time to help realize the faults in society.
Summary:
A Scandal in Bohemia tells the story of Sherlock Holmes, the greatest detective of his time solves the
aspersion of the soon to be married King of Bohemia. Watson pays Sherlock a visit at his home. As

A Scandal in Bohemia takes the stance on showing the distinction between social class and the way
women were treated. Social class was a problem and still is to this day. The separation of the rich and
poor detached the people and left them in two separate worlds. The story intermingles the King of
Bohemia with a middle class woman named Irene Adler. This affair turned bad when he left her for a
Scandinavian princess, so he wouldn t be shunned for marrying a woman of lower class. Even with
him loving her, all because she was of middle class he would and could not see a future with her. But
the other problem lies with the treatment of women. The viewing down on them because of their
gender bias. Now in our time, we can see the big change in how women were treated, but during the
time Sherlock Holmes was written, this was relevant in his stories. We see this scattered in the story as
Irene Adler, the female protagonist is viewed as less to the characters but is proven as the best plans of
Mr. Sherlock Holmes were beaten by a woman s wit. (Doyle 13) It s obvious to include this story as
an outlet to show the wrongdoings of his time. For this, it allows readers to see what s erroneous and
know what is happening around them. This is the reason this story is more developed than just a

The Financial Performance of Low Cost and Full Service Airlines in Times of Crisis
Triant Flouris, Thomas John Walker. Canadian Journal of Administrative Sciences. Halifax: Mar 2005.
Vol. 22, Iss. 1; pg. 3, 18 pgs
Abstract
This paper examines the stock and accounting performance of three major airlines in the United States
in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. September 11 (9/11) resulted in dramatic
changes in the airline industry and had significant implications for the economic gains and future
prospects of most airlines. Our study focuses on the stock market s perception of the viability of low
cost versus full service business models in the aftermath of 9/11. We choose Southwest Airlines as a
typical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lawton (2003) advances the argument that low cost carriers (LCCs) were in a position to go on the
offensive and aggressively exploit the changed industry climate after 9/11 by renegotiating labour
contracts, by negotiating lower prices for new airplanes in what had suddenly become a buyer s
market for new aircraft, and by pursuing aggressive pricing strategies to increase their market share
relative to legacy carriers. Legacy carriers, being exposed to a significantly higher overhead burden,
were forced into defensive strategies that provided them with little operational flexibility. These
developments are difficult to observe in the airlines accounting figures in the short term, but if they are
perceived to change a firm s future cash flows they should be reflected in the market s valuation of the
firm s stock.
When investigating the impact that the events of 9/11 had on each airline s risk, we consider both the
systematic and unsystematic volatility of the stocks returns. This allows us to differentiate between
risk factors that affected the market as a whole and risk factors that affected the firms specifically.
Although we employ only a small sample, our results are highly consistent.2 We observe that
Southwest performed significantly better after 9/11 than its mainstream competitors

I believe that the impact generated by this element towards the entertainment industry is significant,
principally in music. As people may have witnessed, the music industry has been a direct victim of the
digital era and piracy, leaving many questions about what might happen and forcing industry experts,
labels, artists and entrepreneurs to re think their marketing strategies and re invent themselves. As a
result, Streaming services like Pandora, Apple ITunes Match or Spotify came to the world as several
options for music consumption, yet I believe they are artist unfriendly, especially for emerging acts.
When a user wants to subscribe into any of these services, they are required to enter their credit card
details. In the case of Spotify, artists earn the sum of 0.07 cents per streaming; this means that they

sales? There is no certainty about that, yet it is evident that this invention has influenced in a way
people s behavior, a behavior that has made undoubtedly an impact on the entertainment industry. On

The story of Rejection follows the intricacies of marital relationships through the development of the
characters Kyle and Deborah. Rejection begins with the introduction of Deborah, a businesswoman in
her late twenties, riding in a Uber to a hotel for a business trip. She appears to be distant and in a rush,
yet kind at heart. After arriving and checking in at the hotel, she begins to get ready for her first
meeting only to be interrupted by a phone call from her husband Kyle.
The couple begins the conversation with small talk that leads Kyle to bring up a mutual friend of
theirs. Kyle asks his wife is she remembers John which begins a series of flashbacks that occurs

Deborah pushes back at every suggestion. As the conversation ensues, there are three periodic cut
aways that detail John s various stages of treatment. Kyle begins the questions feeling hopeful about
his friend and ends feeling disdained due to his wife s disconnection. Deborah informs Kyle that she
needs to go and she hangs up.
The next scene begins with a man sitting in a wheelchair in the radiation room with a phone to his
head. The camera pulls out to reveal that the man waiting for his next treatment is Kyle and that he
was actually John in the previous scenes. Then Deborah receives a call from the hospital informing
her that her husband is behind on his payments for his radiation treatments. The film ends with Kyle
receiving a call from his wife and before he can do anything, it cuts to black.
Kyle creates a fictitious situation using his friend John to both test the waters and deflect the task of
telling Deborah about his cancer. In the end, he assumes his wife wouldn t abide well with a
handicapped husband deflecting her attention away from her career onto him. Deborah is believed to
be the character in the wrong, however, it is Kyle s personal flaws that exacerbate her vices. Kyle feels
as if he cannot be honest with his wife due to the lack of emotional intimacy in their relationship.

A Study On Student s Abilities
Design a Study
Teachers who have higher expectations of their student s abilities will have a higher academic
achievement as compared to teachers who have low expectations of their students abilities. In this
study, the independent variable is the expectation of the teachers on their student s abilities, and the
dependent variable is the student achievements based upon the teacher expectations. The
achievements can be measured by monitoring classrooms in a high school setting for English class for
one year, with some classes having a teacher with high expectations, and other classes having a
teacher with low expectations. The achievements would be measured by a preliminary assessment, test
results, quarterly reports, and an end of year ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first limitation I came across was that the students themselves can determine their academic
achievements. For example they could be really good students who try there hardest no matter what or
there could be bad students who do not care if you have high expectations or not. Secondly, the
subject at hand can also have a big influence. In this case the
subject is English because it is a requirement class. Therefore if the student enjoys english they will do
very well and achieve good things because they enjoy learning about the subject. But if the student
does not enjoy english they will not care to do their best on their work and will do the minimum to just
pass the class. Lastly, the atmosphere they are in is also another thing that can influence the student. If
they are in an atmosphere where the whole class acts up and does not do their work they will follow in
those footsteps. However if they are surrounded by a mixture of people who do their work or do not
do their work they will choose to do what they think is best.
Fear and Affiliation
In a previous study, a researcher decided to test if people who experience fear prefer to be alone or

Dr. Pepper TEN the Manliest Low Calorie Soda in the History of Mankind. This slogan is displayed at

manliness expressed in the commercial and how are they connected to the low calorie soda?
The correlation between the bold flavor with low calories and the manliness ensued is one of
vagueness. While Dr. Pepper TEN identifies as both bold and manly they lack an explicit definition in

During the dodge commercials we see a world where masculinity is defined by technological mystery
while during the Dr. Pepper TEN commercial we see it as bear minimum and simplicity. This shift of
what society views masculinity as can be attributed a couple of causes. At the time of the Dodge
commercial society was centered on the powerful and technologic devices that were rapidly
advancing. This pushed for masculinity to be that of a very technical idea. On the other side at the
time of the Dr. Pepper TEN commercial society had reached an understanding of the complex

this and redefined manliness as that of getting in touch with the simpler side of technology by means
of having a new product to add to the market and advertising it by showing that sometimes in life all

George Kelling and James Q. Wilson analyzed and tested their hypothesis. I will break down their

Police officers may perform unlawful aggravated actions while people were looking. People that knew
the officer would say that needed how to handle reckless violators. People that may not know him
would contest and say big city crimes are always and these police officers have lack of control.
(Kelling) A crack in the windows, does that create a smaller hole or bigger problem for crime.
C. Community policing was brought to New York City.
Police had to maintain their assertion. Rights were misconceived only for the rich people. Their
money was thought to give them poser to avoid punishment. Detectives came about to professionally
execute a proper arrest. Police violence had to be halted, however crimes evolved like bad habit. Riots
and organized surfaced like a nightmare for law enforcement. Gangs were more of an issue in New
York. One arrest of a gang can put the community in fear. Community policing of neighborhoods
started in neighborhoods they surveyed the streets without performing law action. Citizens were
comforted with the calm and strict society. The second concept that rose was the vigilante. Back then
there were three hundred fifty vigilante groups. Fortunately, vigilante groups have detained and are a
scarce subject today. They just wanted to ensure that crime does not happen like suspects say will not
happen.

Evaluation Of An Extraverted Feeler With Sensing Strengths
After taking the MBTI assessment, I learned that I am ESFJ, other wise known as an extraverted feeler
with sensing strengths. Extraversion means people who tend to focus on the outer world of people and
things. Sensing tends to focus on the present and concrete information. Feeling tends to be based
primarily on values and on subjective evaluation of person centered concerns. Finally, judging tend to
like a planned and organized approach to like and prefer to have things settled. My dominant strength
is feeling and being able to help other people. With feeling being my biggest strength, we are best
when responsible for winning peoples cooperation with personal caring and practical help. By reading
on ESFJ, I found out that I am sociable, orderly, opinioned, conscientious and realistic. All of these
definitions fit my personality perfectly and really define who I am. An ESFJ has many amazing
qualities and one of them is the ability to radiate sympathy. They tend to concern themselves with the
people around them and value harmonious people. Being harmonious is really big for an ESFJ
because they find value in other peoples opinions and feel everyone needs to be heard. They want to
live in a harmonious life so avoid conflict. The strengths ESFJ s have could go on forever, but a huge
strength is compassion. Their compassion and awareness of physical conditions often attracts them to
health professions where they can provide warmth, comfort, and patient caring. Therefore,

The Things They Carried’ by Tim O’Brien Essay
The Things They Carried by Tim O Brien provides a insider s view of war and its distractions, both
externally in dealing with combat and internally dealing with the reality of war and its effect on each
solder. The story, while set in Vietnam, is as relevant today with the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan
as it was in the 1960 s and 1970 s in Southeast Asia. With over one million soldiers having completed
anywhere from one to three tours in combat in the last 10 years, the real conflict might just be inside
the soldier. O Brien reflects this in his writing technique, using a blend of fiction and autobiographical
facts to present a series of short narratives about a small unit of soldiers. While a war story, it is also

The use of pathos and ethos in tandem strengthens his writing, but also leads to some parts being
almost tedious. As PFCs or Spec 4s, most of them were common grunts and carried the standard M 16
gas operated assault rifle. The weapon weighed 75 pounds unloaded, 8.2 pounds with its full twenty
round magazine. Depending on numerous factors, such as topography and psychology, the riflemen
carried anywhere from twelve to twenty magazines... (O Brien 1990). This paragraph almost drones
on losing the reader in a myriad of technical mumbo jumbo and measurements before getting back on
target with the story of the soldier s life in the field. The organization of the text can be hard to follow
when he goes on about the equipment. On the other hand O Brien takes the role of narrator; clearly he
is invested emotionally in the story. However, the drama of the moment can be diluted with too much
fact and not enough emotion. Taking each character and peeling back the soldier layers to expose us to
the person underneath, he also creates moments that are poignant and riveting. For the most part they
carried themselves with poise, a kind of dignity. Now and then, however, there were times of panic,
when they squealed or wanted to squeal but couldn t. When they twitched and made moaning sounds
and covered their heads and said Dear Jesus and flopped around on the earth and fired their weapons
blindly and cringed and sobbed and begged for the noise to stop and went wild and made

The Transatlantic Slave Trade
Existing from 16th to the 19th centuries.
The atlantic slave trade also known as the Transatlantic slave trade involved the transportation by
slave traders of enslaved african people, mainly from africa to the americas, and then their sale there.
The slave trade used mainly the triangular trade route and its Middle Passage. existed from 16th to the
19th centuries. The development of colonies created by European countries is one of the main causes
of the trade. There was a demand for many labourers for the sugar, tobacco, and cotton plantations in
America. The reason why they didn t just hire people , is because paid labor was too expensive, and
indigenous people had been largely wiped out by disease and conflict, for this reason the colonies
turned to Africa to provide cheap labour in the form of slaves.
The first shipment of slaves was from West Africa to the Americas, across the Atlantic ocean, this took
place in the early 1500s.Slaves were now being sold by European, Arab, and African merchants.
While Europeans purchased large numbers of Africans, and sent them far away to work in colonies
they aren t the only responsible ones for the slave trade. Africans were not strangers to the slave trade
or to keeping of slaves.Africans bear some responsibility themselves, some African societies had their
own slaves long before trade. The Africans cooperated with Europeans to sell other Africans into

Gilbert Grape Family Case Studies
Grape Family Case Study Introduction of the Family
The Grapes are an American family of five who live in a small town in Endora, Iowa. Bonnie Grape
appears to have been struggling with depression since her husband committed suicide seven years ago.
She has isolated herself in her home and has become morbidly obese. Gilbert Grape, the second oldest
in the family, serves as the breadwinner and caretaker for his mother and siblings. In addition, he is the
main caretaker for his seventeen year old developmentally disabled brother, Arnie Grape, who has
been told by doctors that he would not live to ten years of age. The family struggles to take care of
Arnie, who has developed the habit of climbing the town water tower when he is unsupervised. ...

First, Bonnie has not left the house in over seven years and appears to be in the midst of a severe and
untreated mental depression. She cannot recover from the grief she developed after her husband hung
himself and thus attempts to shut out her feelings of grief by overeating unhealthy food and refusing to
leave the house or engage in physical activity. She also appears very anxious, especially with matters
concerning Arnie. She has shut herself off from the rest of community and only forces herself to go
into the public in a moment of extreme crisis when Arnie is imprisoned at the police station.
Therefore, she has become morbidly obese and spends out her days and nights sitting on the same spot
on the couch watching television, ultimately living an extremely sedentary and disengaged lifestyle. In
response, Gilbert and his siblings have assumed the parental role and take care of their mother as well
as each other. They must buy groceries, cook and feed their mother, put her to bed, and upkeep the
house, all at the expense of their own childhood. The most predominately affected include Amy, who
assumes the motherly role, and Gilbert, who fills the fatherly role as the eldest brother walked out on

Arundel Partners: The Sequel Project
The East Wind
Executive Summary:
Arundel group is looking into the project of purchasing the sequel rights associated with films
produced by one or more major movie studios in United States. Arundel believes that they can
calculate a value for the rights to produce these sequels and take a position by investing in a portfolio
conformed of these rights. Arundel Partners plans to make money by negotiating an option price
below its net present value calculation and obtaining its expected returns ... Show more content on

Since studios know better about production, there will also exist information asymmetry between
Partners and studios. This will increase the Arundel Partner s risk of buying unprofitable sequel rights.
If Partners want to buy sequel rights of successful films, the studios will also charge very high prices.
2. In all the three methods below, we calculated the per film value of a portfolio first, and then make a
summary based on the six main studios. The classified summary should help us analyze different film
sequel rights and which price Arundel Partners should pay. In the DCF Valuation, we discounted the
PV of Net Inflows at Year 4 and PV of Negative Cost at Year 3 to Today respectively. Then we make
the difference of the two discounted PV to get the value of sequel rights. According to Exhibit 1, only
MCA UNIVERSAL and THE WALT DISNEY COMPANY get positive portfolio valuation. If Arundel
Partners can buy sequel rights cheaper than 4.58 million dollars per film (MCA UNIVERSAL) and
6.21 million dollars per film (THE WALT DISNEY COMPANY) respectively, the sequel rights are
obviously profitable. On the other hand, Partners should be prudential about rights options due to
negative valuations in other four studios. As we know that the sequel rights are not obligation and
Arundel Partners can choose not to exercise the option, we apply Decision tree approach. If

The Crisis Of The Caribbean
Crisis in the Caribbean Just before 5pm on January 12, 2010, a fierce earthquake struck Haiti. It was
the worst earthquake to hit the region in two hundred years. The death toll was over two hundred
thousand people. Haiti resides in the area of responsibility (AOR) of SOUTHCOM, the Department of
Defense s geographic combatant command for the South American and Caribbean region. Since the
natural disaster took place in SOUTHCOM s AOR, the Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff (CJCS)
appointed SOUTHCOM as the DOD s lead agency. Although initial SOUTHCOM organization was
not ideal and the earthquake rendered communications inoperable, SOUTHCOM s response to the
crisis was astonishing because SOUTHCOM organized a force of twenty two ... Show more content

All of this was just to organize the Combatant Command Headquarters. A Joint Task Force still needed
to be stood up and damage on the ground still needed to be assessed in order to determine what kind
of aid Haiti was going to need. Selecting the JTF Commander was pretty easy for SOUTHCOM. LTG
Keen was identified as the JTF Commander for a plethora of reasons. He had vast experience in the
region, had built a personal relationship with the Commander of the MINUSTAH contingent and he
was on the ground in Haiti when the earthquake happened. Once identified as the JTF H Commander,
LTG Keen had to start piecing together a capable Joint Task Force. Pieces of the puzzle, such as the
USS Carl Vincent, the 22nd and 24th Expeditionary Strike Forces as well as a BCT from the 82nd
Airborne Division were identified almost immediately as parts of the newly formed JTF. After reading
this case study and some articles online, I initially thought that the Department of Defense s response
was going to be a huge failure. Failure in the sense that this Geographic Combatant Command (GCC)
was undermanned and unprepared and this was going to cost the people of Haiti dearly due to the
delayed response times while this GCC was getting fully manned and properly organized; then I
looked at the timeline. It is astonishing what was accomplished so quickly by both the DOD and
SOUTHCOM. Were they fully prepared for the crisis? No. Were they

What Qualities Make Sister Helen Prejean Such A Helpful...
1. What character qualities make Sister Helen Prejean such a helpful spiritual advisor? Sister Helen
Prejean possessed many qualities that presented her as a helpful spiritual advisor. Although she was
new to the idea of working with a convict, she was able to look past Matthew s conviction and past
and lead him to learn and seek God in the days leading up to his death. This makes Sister Helen
forgiving and that is a vital quality to possess as a spiritual advisor. Sister Helen was against capital
punishment for the reason being that you can not solve murder by murdering as it will not provide
justice. Sister Helen was able to recognize even the deadliest man as a son of God and that deserved to
be loved equally. She did not turn a blind eye to anyone, even the ones that many claimed did not
deserve it. She helped Matthew recognize God ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The New Testament call us to protect life, practice mercy, and reject vengeance. For this reason, the
death penalty is a form of hatred and bitterness because it denies mercy and forgiveness for the
prisoners. As Sister Helen stated in the movie, how can you solve murder by murdering? The
governments that enforce the death penalty, violate the international human rights laws in a way that is
hypocritical. The law states that it is illegal to kill, meanwhile, they do the opposite of what they are
enforcing in the country. This clearly shows the cynicism that the death penalty consists of for by
standers and victims. A well known quote an eye for an eye will make the whole world blind shows
how bitter and cynical the death penalty really is. Violence cannot be fought with more violence.
Justice is important, but so is mercy and compassion. No person should be denied forgiveness and
assistance to turn from his

Managing The Go To Market Evolution
Analysis
Company background (Cisco Systems):
Cisco Systems is a world leading company in the switches and router market. Established in 1984 by a
Stanford University couple, IT administrators Len Bosack and Sandy Lerner. Ina short period after
founding, it became one of the most successful companies in high technology industry. In Cisco,
manufacturing of its switches and router was outsourced, the company focused on core competencies:
product design and development. Indirect sales and distribution through resellers became the major
sales channel in the end of 1990 s; its Value Added Reseller (VAR) was the most successful indirect ...

level of education required for the specialized field of networking, are garnered from the internet.
Cisco s primary issue faced in the case is how to sustain change after the so called bursting of the tech
bubble or the stock market bubble, and how to revamp its route to market strategy. To expand its
market in the face of dynamic competitors like IBM and Apple, Cisco faced a situation in which it
must expand market channels. Because of its technology, Consumers are increasingly well informed,
with the advent of internet technology which allows them to gather a great deal of information before
making the choice to hire one product/service or another, according to their needs. Successful
companies are increasingly turning to marketing to find niches spaces in the consumer consciousness
in an effort to increase customer reaction by treating them as individuals with specific sets of needs.
Company websites may offer specialized services that cover a wide range of possible targets in an
effort to induce these more empowered customers to find value, displaying the loyalty that stems from
satisfaction. The relationship between the consumer and the business is no longer necessarily

How pH Level Affects Corrosion Rate
The purpose of this project was to discover how the pH level affects corrosion rate. The hypothesis
was if the pH level affects the corrosion rate, then the lower the pH level is quicker the corrosion rate
would be. This will happen because liquids below the pH level of 7 possess stronger acidic attributes.
The effect of pH level on corrosion rate was determined by depositing a copper penny in each of three
plastic cups, and then three different liquids by their pH levels, were assigned to be displaced into
each cup formulating a chemical reaction to be observed. The results collected during this
investigation contradicted with the intended result, this experiment was conducted to determine
corrosion rate; Dana Puti Vingear (pH level: 4.5) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Corrosion and oxidation both are destructive and are a threat to certain elements; metal. Corrosion is
the attack on an element triggered by a reaction with the environment. It occurs when oxygen and
water infiltrate a metal and a brand new layer forms. Corrosion can cause hazards, buildings can be
shut down, due to their metal foundation unable to withstand itself after the effects of corrosion; torn
down and disembodied fragments. Oxidation occurs only in metal, frequently in iron, due to its
molecular structure prone to be torn down by oxidation. Corrosion as stated above occurs when an
element like iron, combines with water and oxygen. When these elements and compounds integrate,
rust takes an appearance; reddish brown forms on the surface of the element. Just like corrosion,
oxidation can cause hazards. Since iron is majorly distributed into many architectural projects, and the
factor that oxidation can occur unexpectedly, protection must be prioritized. Corrosion can be
prevented by restraining metal from coming in contact with water. Coating exposed metal with water
proof paint can be a low effort maneuver to prevent oxidation destruction. Locating the symptoms of
oxidation is crucial for maintaining it in state you have the potential to keep under sovereignty.
Substituting vulnerable metals to material that can withstand oxidation is noncompulsory. Pay
attention to the environmental aspects, is it warm or cold, is it humid?

The Making Of Space Race And Place Analysis
Going back to the original question, what is considered graffiti? McAuliffe and Iveson proposed an
idea, asking whether graffiti is still graffiti if it is taken from its illegal context on the walls of the city
and placed in a gallery (130). In The Making of Space, Race and Place by Maggie Dickinson, Sandra
Fabara, a writer who was featured in the Brooklyn Museum exhibit, answered this question. Fabara
argued that The pieces in galleries cease to be graffiti because they have been removed from the
cultural context that gives graffiti a reason for being, a voice from the ghetto. Authentic graffiti cannot
exist in the sanctuary provided by the galleries and museums (39). She is saying that since the cultural
side is being taken away and

Illuminati Research Papers
This beady eye is all seeing, all knowing and all powerful. It is allegedly the symbol of an influential
secret society known as the Illuminati (Waugh). The group known as the Illuminati is a cult that
conspiracy theorist say control are everyday lives. The Illuminati have gotten into people s everyday
lives and nobody knows the reason of how or why they did. Many people have not even heard of the
Illuminati or what they are about. The ones that know what the Illuminati is see the group as a tall tale
passed down through the ages. This is because the Illuminati is trying to stay hidden and in the
shadows. The members of the Illuminati supposedly know more about what is going on than the
outsiders do (Waugh). We know the Illuminati from the definition that is given by society and what

Some say that it was the Illuminati trying to test their hologram machine. The alleged plan is to throw
a hologram into the sky of a God like figure telling us to go with the Illuminati just in a more sly,
Godly way (Dawson). The Illuminati is most likely getting this plan up and running as a way to
influence the followers of Christ when the desired time comes. When this happens the most likely case
is that all of the non believers of Christ are already influenced and ready to follow them. Even in the
1970s people knew about this. John Todd was known for talking about how UFOs were part of the
Illuminati s plan. However, when it became well known he just mysteriously disappeared (Xendrius).
Is it just a coincidence he disappeared? Many think not. The government and the Illuminati have the
power to make anyone they want go away . To a large extent the Illuminati already have us wrapped
around their theoretical finger. So if you see a God like figure in the sky telling you to do something
sketchy, remember that Shane Dawson warned you about this and to not follow them

Granting Equal Rights For Gay And Lesbians And Gay Rights
hroughout mankind s history, gays and lesbians have become fairly known as another scapegoat to
societies venomous opinions about accepting anything new or unfamiliar in order to balance out any
negative baggage left behind by previous generations. In order to accept them for who they are, we
must not abolish anymore given rights from them due to the misconception that homosexuality could
break the mindset through fear and righteousness of Christ; that we must beat them down until
eradicated from the planet. Restricting all equal rights to the LGBTQ community could threaten the
pillar of society and eventually, the destruction of equal common grounds for everyone. Granting
equal based rights and legal marriage rights under the authorized laws, must be expanded far enough
to not only the common men and women, but as well for the gays and lesbians too on this planet.
In consideration of what has been happening as of current, most cases are being that the LGBTQ
community has been the reason that there has been a change with the sudden bump of the increased
rate of children s being adopted from either the orphanages or foster homes. Most gay couples
nowadays are considering to start a family, but could never adopt until the states could finally pass a
law where gay and lesbian could adopt a kid, (...) And several states allow gay couples to adopt
children (Jaweed Kaleem, 41 42). Despite that, there are still a majority of people who cannot accept
the fact now that gay couples

  • 2. The Portrayal Analysis Of Know Your Rights By The Clash Know Your Rights by The Clash is a song that criticizes the oppression that poor and working class people face. This song takes a sarcastic tone and goes over the three basic rights that everyone has. It becomes very clear that the rights The Clash references are bogus and part of a rigged system. The Clash released Know Your Rights in 1982. The 1980 s, in England where this band was based, was a time of major social and political revolution. The Clash s music reflected this, primarily producing music about revolution and the working class. The Clash s defining elements were their punk rock, passionate, and enthused sound. They are now known as one of the founding punk rock legends. Know Your Rights sound and message went a long way in terms of empowering the audience; young adults, poor and working class people, revolutionaries. One of the most important steps in advocacy is telling a story that will resonate with the desired audience. Telling a story can be used across all the media realms, providing your audience with content that is packed with utility, seeded with inspiration, and that is honestly empathetic, is what draws an audience then, but also incites them to action (Hadley Chapman 9). • 3. TABC Considerations for Olive Garden Analysis Beverage Management Project #2 TABC Considerations for Olive Garden Analysis In order to offer a viable platform in which restaurants can offer alcoholic beverages as part of their drink line, the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission has created a set of guidelines which establishments must utilize in order to initiate a more responsible service to the community. According to the TABC guidelines (2014) these guidelines should clear following national, state, and local laws when offering alcohol to patrons, such as ensuring that alcoholic beverage is only served to those over age 21 (checked if they appear to be under 30), a valid Texas driver s license, or another valid identification must be used, and employees must refuse service to anyone that does not fit these criteria. However, there are also TABC guidelines (2014) which are state defined, such as the need to refuse service to anyone that appears to be intoxicated, prohibit employees from serving customers to the point of intoxication, offer mediation for intoxicated customers who wish to leave the premises in such a state, and adhere to the TABC certification regulations. A secondary goal, to this extent is also to meet the mixed beverage gross sales tax requirements at a rate of 6.7% after Jan.1, 2014 and 14% prior to Jan. 1, 2014, as well as the mixed beverage sales tax, which was implemented after Jan. 1, 2014. • 5. Critical Analysis of a Passage from Horace Walpole s... Horace Walpole s The Castle of Otranto, is acknowledged by many as the first gothic novel. It was the first of it s kind and many of the conventions used by Walpole, which put it in a literary genre of it s own, were continued by authors such as Ann Radcliffe and Matthew Lewis. Many of these defining characteristics can be seen within the very first few pages of the text and for the purposes of this essay, to identify some of these conventions used and the relevance of this text to modernity I shall focus this analysis on the passage between pages twenty four and twenty six from the Oxford World s Classics edition. The gothic novel emerged during the late eighteenth century and the Age of Enlightenment , which emphasised rationality ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Otranto, Walpole challenges his societies views of modernity and transgresses social laws by introducing the theme of incest into his novel with Manfred preying of his deceased son s betrothed, Isabella. This brings into play three defining features which became prevalent within gothic novels of the late eighteenth century: women in distress; women being threatened by powerful males; and the major theme of fear and in this example, specifically female fear. Isabella, a young, virginal woman becomes half dead with fright when faced with potential rape and becoming a spoiled woman at the hands of the powerful and threatening Manfred. Such suggestions, by Walpole s age were seen as scandalous and caused moral outrage, a thread that was carried through the gothic genre. This new genre may have provided for many, an escape from the rigid world of enlightenment. It brought to them a world of imagination and allowed them to immerse themselves in a world which had been morally forbidden and they could do it from the privacy of their own homes, allowing their indulgence, and perhaps, immoral thoughts to go unnoticed, providing a way for the darkness and immoral thoughts to come alive outside of the novel. At the end of the novel however, society s moral ideals surface as Manfred retires to a convent after the realisation of his sins and order is restored. In this way, although Walpole is exposing his readers to these ideas, he would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, many Americans tend to forget their ancestors were all very much immigrants most migrating to America in the pre Civil Wars days such as the Germans, Irish, and Chinese. Immigrants traveled to the United States for many reasons. The Irish sought after a future in America after a potato famine left many families in great poverty and suffering from starvation. The German and Chinese also came in search of a better life, to provide for their families, and to chase after the American Dream. Many Chinese immigrated to the U.S. due terrible famines in the 1840s, which were caused by a lack of farmland because of overpopulation. Most Chinese immigrants were poor, hard working men, who left their families to gain wealth from gold in California in the hopes of returning back to China. Although these men were very hardworking (so much so that Westerners called them coolies from k u li meaning hard strength), Americans soon became jealous of their prosperity and picked up the slogan California for Americans. Taxes were even imposed specifically to aim at the Chinese. Life was also rough for Chinese women; it was against Chinese tradition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From the early ages in history to the present day, the game of football has always been an important part of society. In a way It teaches its players things like: self discipline, how to be a team player, how to interact with others and it s also a good source of physical activity. Throughout history the game itself has changed; from the first rounded ball that was to throw, to the modern prolate spheroid shaped ball of today that is air dynamic and easier to throw (how it s made). But hears the biggies question, is the game of football better now than it was in in its prime. • 10. Science And Its Effect On Society Essay Science is the process which discovers knowledge, knowledge in turn is power, and power is said to bring about corruption. Therefore, through the transitive property, that implies that science will only lead to corruption. Not necessarily a corruption of one s actions; for instance, science won t make a politician accept a bribe. However, some would argue that science will lead to a degradation of morals. For example, contemporary science may lead to a woman viewing her unborn baby as naught but a ball of cells, similar to a tumor, which can be removed from her body with no moral dilemma. The converse to this is the impediment of science due to humanity clinging to its archaic values. This can be shown by the opposition to stem cell research and genetically modified embryos in the name of morals and the inviolability of life. The stark contrast between following morals and advancing science creates a juxtaposition that often manifests itself as a debate between religion and science. Certain members of both the scientific and religious communities blindly adhere to their own opinions and ideals. This butting of heads helps no one. As a result, a middle road must be found, one in which neither progress nor morality are ignored. The polarity between these two forces is encapsulated by the differences that Bertolt Brecht draws in his play Galileo between Galileo and the clergymen. This play, when contrasted with the reality of Galileo s studies, provides a vehicle to discuss the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I could hear was the sound of the night wind blowing against the trees, crickets chirping in the tall grass all around me, the stream flowing peacefully on my right, and my unsteady breath, which seemed like the loudest. I walked, step by step, along a path I could barely make out. Am I going off the trail? I questioned myself, and kept walking through the silent forest. I was on my first, and only solo night hike in Yellowstone, Wyoming. This was a night that I will remember forever. Over the summer, I took a trip to Yellowstone, Wyoming with thirty eight other eighth graders and high schoolers. The trip lasted almost two weeks and was one of the most memorable experiences in my life, but there was one night that impacts me every single day since. On the third night that we were staying at our campsite, my friends and I were getting ready for bed and hanging out around the bonfire when the camp counselors made an announcement. Everyone meet at the bonfire at 10:30 and bring nothing with you. No backpacks, phones, flashlights, absolutely nothing. Dress warm because it s going to be cold tonight! announced Miss Flower, one of the counselors. My friends and I looked at each other, confused. What were we going to do? Where are we going? What is going on? There were so many questions overfilling our minds, that none of the counselors would answer. Time seemed to pass so slowly as we waited for an hour until we were supposed to meet. No one had any idea what was going on, or what the night was going to hold. When it was finally time, we hurried over to the bonfire to figure out what was happening. We were shocked when Miss Flower just told us to just follow her and the other counselors down the dirt road by our tents. She didn t answer any questions, where we going, what we were doing, absolutely nothing. We followed the counselors down the path, which led us to a one lane highway. Everyone crossed quickly, even though there were no cars to be seen. There were no lights anywhere, except the soft illumination from the stars above us. Since video games are a relatively new medium of artistic expression and entertainment, not much is known about the effects of continual exposure to them, especially at a young age. The effects of violent media on the psyche of kids and adolescents has been a pressing concern for many years now, as stated in a study conducted by Tortolero et al. (2014), where it is observed that most other studies done on the subject of video games were mainly focused on aggression (p.609). In the current attempt to identify a relationship between video games and the attitudes of youths, the researchers have decided to instead focus on levels of depressive symptoms and the amount of time spent playing video games through a cross sectional analysis (Tortolero et al., p.609). The researchers have focused on the branch of psychology focused on mental health, clinical psychology (King, 2014, p.16), and the psychological problems associated with prolonged exposure to violent video games, specifically in preadolescents. The study was meant to observe the levels of depressive symptoms in children who played violent video games using the Major Depressive Disorder Scale of the DISC Predictive Scales to identify these symptoms which included lack of pleasure, lack of interest in activities, concentration difficulties, low energy, low self worth, and suicidal ideation (Tortelo et al., 2014, p.610 611). I will speak a little about his identity at the beginning of the comedy, then who he is compared to metaphorically, and finally about the development of his character throughout the play. Initially, Benedick appears as a character meant entirely for comic relief, acting as if the most crucial part of his personality is his wit and humor. The drought s primary characteristics of damage are regarded as agricultural for the most part. High temperatures, lack of rain, insect infestations, and heavy winds all in unison with the dust storms that accompanied these detrimental instances damaged countless crops. In addition to the Great Depression s bank closures, various economic damages, increased unemployment, and other hardships, the agricultural depression just worsened the situation in America. It is also important to note that the lack of precipitation may have most likely affected the overall conditions of plant life and wildlife in a negative manner, as well as caused potential shortages of water for various conventional purposes. Although this almost always goes unnoticed by most readers, it is extremely important to acknowledge such regressions as they appropriately contribute to the overall negative and destructive connotation of the Dust Bowl in its respective era. Due to the incompetency of affected regions to adequately recover from any of the recurring droughts, the entire series of droughts was thought of to be a single drought by the inhabitants of affected areas. The basis for generating diversity lies in these conditions, and cannot be secludedly achieved by planning and designing. This part lays out the foundation and is the basis for the rest of the book. With these four conditions she diagnoses why cities fail at equal diversity, and how it could be formulated. Primary functions are those who bring people to specific places, to ensure safety in regions and from economic views such as people passing by shops to ensure incomes in certain places. Jane Jacobs underlines the importance of time spread, to create balance in the district. The need of short blocks is described with the example of Manhattan, where the use of long blocks segregate walking citizens and isolate people socially as well as economically. She argues that frequent streets and short blocks are more valuable since they provide cross use of the streets. Most shops are dependant on people passing by each day, and short blocks could control the passings and create a diverse and balanced income for them. The mixture of buildings of different conditions are necessary to public life because it otherwise would be neither interesting nor fascinating. But the main reasons are because they ensure low rent yields, encouraging the growth of small enterprises. Large swatches of new construction would only prevent income since not many would afford it, and the demand for it would not be as large as it would need to be. The Importance Of The Scientific Method The scientific method in the twenty first century represents a major role of testing our hypothesis whether it is in the industry, school, market, or in our lives. We are constantly coming up with theories or ideas and conducting experiments on these ideas without even realizing it. The scientific method allows us to expand our knowledge in certain fields that we are mastered in or helps us learn new possibilities that we are not aware of. The use of chemistry and the scientific method is important to incorporate into our lives and society. The Scientific Method The scientific method is defined as a way of learning that emphasizes observation and experimentation to understand the world (Tro, 2015, p. 6). The scientific method involves major characteristics such as an observation. When making an observation, it can simply be by looking at a sample with your eyes or by using instruments that can make observing a sample easier, such as a microscope. Next, the scientist would formulate a hypothesis. Formulating a hypothesis is simply stating what the scientist observed and what they want to explore and measure. Following the creating of a hypothesis comes conducting an experiment using the hypothesis. Conducting an experiment is a highly controlled observations designed to validate or invalidate hypotheses (Tro, 2015, p. 6). Lastly, the scientific method concludes with laws and theories. There are many types of tourism which move the people of the cities and one of them is favelas tourism. Favelas are precarious or informal settlements that grow around or inside the same big cities. According to C. Boulton (2016), 57.5% of poor data are caused by users, followed by 47% caused by data migration and integration, which usually lead to gaps or duplicate information, and 43.5% caused by changes to source systems (Figure 5) [45]. Figure 5: Causes of poor data quality [45] Jack E. Olson (2003) defined data quality as data that are linked to their fit for use. In other words, high data quality is obtained when the data fulfill the requirements and the criteria of its intended usage. In contrast, poor quality results when the data do not fulfil their requirements [44]. 3.3 Dimensions of Data Quality In previous research, data quality was divided into two main categories: intrinsic and contextual. In the intrinsic category, value resides within the data, which refers to objective attributes. In the contextual category, the attributes of the data mainly depend on the context in which the data are present, used, as well as the situation or problem. A Scandal in Bohemia takes the stance on showing the distinction between social class and the way women were treated. Social class was a problem and still is to this day. The separation of the rich and poor detached the people and left them in two separate worlds. The story intermingles the King of Bohemia with a middle class woman named Irene Adler. This affair turned bad when he left her for a Scandinavian princess, so he wouldn t be shunned for marrying a woman of lower class. Even with him loving her, all because she was of middle class he would and could not see a future with her. But the other problem lies with the treatment of women. Canadian Journal of Administrative Sciences. Halifax: Mar 2005. Vol. 22, Iss. 1; pg. 3, 18 pgs Abstract This paper examines the stock and accounting performance of three major airlines in the United States in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. September 11 (9/11) resulted in dramatic changes in the airline industry and had significant implications for the economic gains and future prospects of most airlines. Our study focuses on the stock market s perception of the viability of low cost versus full service business models in the aftermath of 9/11. We choose Southwest Airlines as a typical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lawton (2003) advances the argument that low cost carriers (LCCs) were in a position to go on the offensive and aggressively exploit the changed industry climate after 9/11 by renegotiating labour contracts, by negotiating lower prices for new airplanes in what had suddenly become a buyer s market for new aircraft, and by pursuing aggressive pricing strategies to increase their market share relative to legacy carriers. Legacy carriers, being exposed to a significantly higher overhead burden, were forced into defensive strategies that provided them with little operational flexibility. These developments are difficult to observe in the airlines accounting figures in the short term, but if they are perceived to change a firm s future cash flows they should be reflected in the market s valuation of the firm s stock. When investigating the impact that the events of 9/11 had on each airline s risk, we consider both the systematic and unsystematic volatility of the stocks returns. This allows us to differentiate between risk factors that affected the market as a whole and risk factors that affected the firms specifically. Although we employ only a small sample, our results are highly consistent.2 We observe that Southwest performed significantly better after 9/11 than its mainstream competitors ... As a result, Streaming services like Pandora, Apple ITunes Match or Spotify came to the world as several options for music consumption, yet I believe they are artist unfriendly, especially for emerging acts. When a user wants to subscribe into any of these services, they are required to enter their credit card details. In this study, the independent variable is the expectation of the teachers on their student s abilities, and the dependent variable is the student achievements based upon the teacher expectations. The achievements can be measured by monitoring classrooms in a high school setting for English class for one year, with some classes having a teacher with high expectations, and other classes having a teacher with low expectations. The first limitation I came across was that the students themselves can determine their academic achievements. For example they could be really good students who try there hardest no matter what or there could be bad students who do not care if you have high expectations or not. Secondly, the subject at hand can also have a big influence. In this case the subject is English because it is a requirement class. Therefore if the student enjoys english they will do very well and achieve good things because they enjoy learning about the subject. But if the student does not enjoy english they will not care to do their best on their work and will do the minimum to just pass the class. Lastly, the atmosphere they are in is also another thing that can influence the student. If they are in an atmosphere where the whole class acts up and does not do their work they will follow in those footsteps. However if they are surrounded by a mixture of people who do their work or do not do their work they will choose to do what they think is best. Fear and Affiliation In a previous study, a researcher decided to test if people who experience fear prefer to be alone or with other people. The slave trade used mainly the triangular trade route and its Middle Passage. existed from 16th to the 19th centuries. The development of colonies created by European countries is one of the main causes of the trade. There was a demand for many labourers for the sugar, tobacco, and cotton plantations in America. The reason why they didn t just hire people , is because paid labor was too expensive, and indigenous people had been largely wiped out by disease and conflict, for this reason the colonies turned to Africa to provide cheap labour in the form of slaves. A well known quote an eye for an eye will make the whole world blind shows how bitter and cynical the death penalty really is. Violence cannot be fought with more violence. Justice is important, but so is mercy and compassion. No person should be denied forgiveness and assistance to turn from his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. How pH Level Affects Corrosion Rate The purpose of this project was to discover how the pH level affects corrosion rate. The hypothesis was if the pH level affects the corrosion rate, then the lower the pH level is quicker the corrosion rate would be. This will happen because liquids below the pH level of 7 possess stronger acidic attributes. The effect of pH level on corrosion rate was determined by depositing a copper penny in each of three plastic cups, and then three different liquids by their pH levels, were assigned to be displaced into each cup formulating a chemical reaction to be observed. The results collected during this investigation contradicted with the intended result, this experiment was conducted to determine corrosion rate; Dana Puti Vingear (pH level: 4.5) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Corrosion and oxidation both are destructive and are a threat to certain elements; metal. Corrosion is the attack on an element triggered by a reaction with the environment. It occurs when oxygen and water infiltrate a metal and a brand new layer forms. Corrosion can cause hazards, buildings can be shut down, due to their metal foundation unable to withstand itself after the effects of corrosion; torn down and disembodied fragments. Oxidation occurs only in metal, frequently in iron, due to its molecular structure prone to be torn down by oxidation. Corrosion as stated above occurs when an element like iron, combines with water and oxygen. When these elements and compounds integrate, rust takes an appearance; reddish brown forms on the surface of the element. Just like corrosion, oxidation can cause hazards. Since iron is majorly distributed into many architectural projects, and the factor that oxidation can occur unexpectedly, protection must be prioritized. Corrosion can be prevented by restraining metal from coming in contact with water. Coating exposed metal with water proof paint can be a low effort maneuver to prevent oxidation destruction. Locating the symptoms of oxidation is crucial for maintaining it in state you have the potential to keep under sovereignty. Substituting vulnerable metals to material that can withstand oxidation is noncompulsory. Pay attention to the environmental aspects, is it warm or cold, is it humid? ... • 48. The Making Of Space Race And Place Analysis Going back to the original question, what is considered graffiti? McAuliffe and Iveson proposed an idea, asking whether graffiti is still graffiti if it is taken from its illegal context on the walls of the city and placed in a gallery (130). In The Making of Space, Race and Place by Maggie Dickinson, Sandra Fabara, a writer who was featured in the Brooklyn Museum exhibit, answered this question. Fabara argued that The pieces in galleries cease to be graffiti because they have been removed from the cultural context that gives graffiti a reason for being, a voice from the ghetto. Authentic graffiti cannot exist in the sanctuary provided by the galleries and museums (39). She is saying that since the cultural side is being taken away and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Illuminati Research Papers This beady eye is all seeing, all knowing and all powerful. It is allegedly the symbol of an influential secret society known as the Illuminati (Waugh). The group known as the Illuminati is a cult that conspiracy theorist say control are everyday lives. The Illuminati have gotten into people s everyday lives and nobody knows the reason of how or why they did. Many people have not even heard of the Illuminati or what they are about. The ones that know what the Illuminati is see the group as a tall tale passed down through the ages. This is because the Illuminati is trying to stay hidden and in the shadows. The members of the Illuminati supposedly know more about what is going on than the outsiders do (Waugh). We know the Illuminati from the definition that is given by society and what makes the organization, along with members and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some say that it was the Illuminati trying to test their hologram machine. The alleged plan is to throw a hologram into the sky of a God like figure telling us to go with the Illuminati just in a more sly, Godly way (Dawson). The Illuminati is most likely getting this plan up and running as a way to influence the followers of Christ when the desired time comes. When this happens the most likely case is that all of the non believers of Christ are already influenced and ready to follow them. Even in the 1970s people knew about this. John Todd was known for talking about how UFOs were part of the Illuminati s plan. However, when it became well known he just mysteriously disappeared (Xendrius). Is it just a coincidence he disappeared? Many think not. The government and the Illuminati have the power to make anyone they want go away . To a large extent the Illuminati already have us wrapped around their theoretical finger. So if you see a God like figure in the sky telling you to do something sketchy, remember that Shane Dawson warned you about this and to not follow them ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Granting Equal Rights For Gay And Lesbians And Gay Rights hroughout mankind s history, gays and lesbians have become fairly known as another scapegoat to societies venomous opinions about accepting anything new or unfamiliar in order to balance out any negative baggage left behind by previous generations. In order to accept them for who they are, we must not abolish anymore given rights from them due to the misconception that homosexuality could break the mindset through fear and righteousness of Christ; that we must beat them down until eradicated from the planet. Restricting all equal rights to the LGBTQ community could threaten the pillar of society and eventually, the destruction of equal common grounds for everyone. Granting equal based rights and legal marriage rights under the authorized laws, must be expanded far enough to not only the common men and women, but as well for the gays and lesbians too on this planet. In consideration of what has been happening as of current, most cases are being that the LGBTQ community has been the reason that there has been a change with the sudden bump of the increased rate of children s being adopted from either the orphanages or foster homes. Most gay couples nowadays are considering to start a family, but could never adopt until the states could finally pass a law where gay and lesbian could adopt a kid, (...) And several states allow gay couples to adopt children (Jaweed Kaleem, 41 42). Despite that, there are still a majority of people who cannot accept the fact now that gay couples ...
