Supply Chain 2
Supply Chain Management plays a vital role in our hospitals today. With the growing cost of
healthcare and new technologies, it is vital for hospitals to run as efficiently as possible and without
jeopardizing care. To the materials manager and to the financial minds of a hospital the area of supply
chain is a tedius task at best, the kind of planning, strategizing and measuring that seldom goes
recognized and rewarded. The work involved with inventory control fits tightly within that
description.
In many hospitals today, it is easy for inventory control to go astray and ... Show more content on

Until that time comes, if ever, there needs to be another solution.
There is no quick fix, but I will start with a list of criteria that will help us better control I Cares
inventory, understand what is being spent, where it is being spent and areas where we can cut costs on
supplys, which according to ASCET (Achieving Supply Chain Excellence through Technology) makes
up between 25 and 30% of a hospitals operating costs.
1. Understand your spend. Knowing exactly what you are keeping in inventory, where it comes from,
and how it s received, handled and stored is critical to inventory reduction efforts. There are many
programs that can gather and track this data, but technology is an enabler not a solution. There must
still be business processes in place to analyze this data to make it worthwhile.
2. Rationalize SKUs. This requires data about what SKUs are being used, by whom, and for what.
This is the biggest challenge, but armed with this information, you ll be able to impact inventory
levels, SKU proliferation, leverage substitutes and alternates or even the need to stock certain
materials at all.
3. Leverage key strategic partners/distributors for information and just in time services which will
substitute inventory stockpiles. This means you get only what you need. And, should you need more
of a product on occasion, you know exactly where to find it.

Important Discoveries in Physics Essay
Ideas in the subject of Physics are never absolute; it is a forever changing topic. We think we have
discovered everything there is to know about it, and then we find out something new that changes
everything. That is one of the reasons physics is so interesting to learn about there will always be
something new. There are many very important discoveries in Physics. This paper will describe some
of the discoveries. These discoveries are prevalent throughout history and in our daily lives. One of
the oldest, but nonetheless important, discoveries in physics is The Law of Falling Bodies. Discovered
by Galileo Galilei, it remains a fundamental part of physics even today. It states that all objects that
are falling, no matter mass, height, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If they were not important then people would not have heard so much about them. Isaac Newton was a
mathematician and physicist that discovered the three laws of motion. The laws are as follows: 1) An
object in motion remains in motion unless an external force is applied to it. 2) The relationship
between an object s mass (m), its acceleration (a) and the applied force (F) is F = ma. 3) For every
action there is an equal and opposite reaction. With these three laws, Newton created the basis for
modern day engineering. These laws helped many other physicists to discover meaningful things.
Newton s first law of motion is usually referred to as the law of inertia. Inertia is defined as the
property of matter by which it retains its state of rest or its velocity along a straight line so long as it is

Franz Kafka s The Penal Colony Essay
In Franz Kafka s In the Penal Colony, there is no presumption of innocence whatsoever; there is only
presumption. Innocent until proven guilty. This presumption of innocence is considered to be the
foundation of a civilized criminal justice system, as well as within the fundamental rights of mankind.
The Officer says that guilt is never to be doubted, and because he was ordained the judge of the penal
colony, there is no proper trial or due process needed, as all are guilty in the eyes of the one who
judges (Kafka, p.198). If the punishments delivered to the guilty were less severe, than there would
perhaps be fewer qualms about the system, however the justice dispensed by the machine is nowhere
near reasonable or humane, dispensing grievous punishments that far exceed most crimes to those who
are condemned. However, it is important to remember that the apparatus and its function are simply an
extension of the ideology of the Old Commandant and the Officer who are the true punishers. The
punishments the officer administers through the device to the condemned seem to be an example of
just one of the two types of justice criticized in the text. The first type of justice is the excruciating
suffering wrought by the officer and Old Commandant through the apparatus upon the naturally guilty,
almost like divine punishment raining down from the heavens to strike down sinners. The other justice
is the presumption of innocence and civilized law and order of liberal

Cantilena Spring Research Paper
Cantilena spring Cantilena Springs, now known as Edward Vincent Jr Park, is located on the corner of
Warren Lane and Park Avenue in the city of Inglewood. The park being two minutes across the street
from my apartment, is one of the major reasons why I choose this historical site. The park is located
by the 105 freeway in the heart of Inglewood surrounded by many residential buildings. The huge
park has many visually stimulating and pleasurable attributes. There are various pathways in the park
and these pathways are surrounded by a large amount of big trees, which serve as shade for people
when the weather is sunny. This park being a historical site attracts a variety of people, which makes it
very busy, lively and welcoming. Cantilena Park has a lot of playgrounds with a spacious green
landscape for people to relax and spend time with their families and loved ones. The park looks well

The Harmful Effects Of Acid Rain And Its Effects
ABSTRACT
This report is written to explain about acid rain in detail which is one of the hazardous effects of
industrialization around the planet. The main causes and their contribution in increasing this curse for
flora, fauna and humans. Further, this report describes various factors and it scrutinises the data not
only of its adverse effect but also of gases amount which consequently make acid rain with water
molecules.
At the end, report ends up explaining methods to control this and solutions to recover from effects it
poses. However, rain is boon given by mother nature to all living beings but our exploitation of
environment for rat race of being powerful and economically strong has changed the water cycles,
carbon cycles, ecological balance and so on considerably. Consequently, living in this beautiful inn is
getting difficult because of various diseases originating and threatening life of living beings.
Therefore, to survive we must find ways to eliminate such disastrous and dangerous phenomenon
which are happening because of our activities.
Well, data analysis of information gathered from different sources is done only to support the report.
There is no intention of taking credit for any information taken from other sources.

The Lifestyle Of The Amphibian
The lifestyle of the amphibian is very complex and fragile. Just the mere fact that amphibians are
biphasic causes them to run into a variety of problems. Since they deal with both an aquatic and
terrestrial environment, they tend to run into an increased amount of pollutants and environmental
changes. Pollution both on land and in water can affect water pH and other variables that can be very
harmful to an amphibian s survival. Since amphibians can be used basically as biomarkers to the
environment, the study and resolution of this problem can aid in two conservation efforts. Not only
will we be able to increase amphibian populations but we also help make environments less polluted.
Healthy amphibians equal a healthy habitat for all. The reason why amphibians are considered
biomarkers is because they have a rather unique skin. It is thin and permeable because most all
amphibians use their skin for respiration. This also allows the skin to absorb and excrete water. That
means if the water is polluted or contains impurities, the amphibian will absorb all these changes
through their skin. This can make the animal very sick. It s even worse for the larvae and eggs of the
amphibians. Larval and neotenic amphibians are completely aquatic and have less keratinized skin
then most adult amphibians. This makes them more affected by changes in water composition. Since
amphibians don t lay shelled eggs, the embryos are directly exposed with the water and all its

Bay Of Fundy
In the Bay of Fundy the incoming tidal waters can overpower the flow of estuaries and rivers. This
extraordinary phenomenon is known as a tidal bore and occurs twice daily. At high tide, a massive
volume of seawater floods out of the Bay of Fundy into the rivers which feed it. The narrowing
riverbanks force the soaring waters in a amazing surge and often a visible standing wave, in some
cases 1 meter (3 feet) tall! In addition, 3 to 3.5 meters (10 12 feet) high rapids are generated in the
wake of the roaring and swirling tidal water as it charges upstream at speeds near 15 kilometers per
hour (10 miles per hour)! Many estuaries and rivers draining into the northern parts of the Bay of

The Field Of Machine Learning Essay
Literature Review Introduction: Machine learning is a part of software engineering that advanced from
the examination of pattern recognition and computational learning hypothesis in AI (artificial
Intelligence). Machine learning scrutinizes the study and development of algorithms that can gain
from and make forecasts of the information. The field of Machine Learning (ML) currently lacks a
common platform for the development of collaborative computing. By composing ML models and
algorithms in browser based programming languages, numerous exploration opportunities are
accessible. The most evident is programming similarity: almost all registering gadgets can team up on
the preparation of ML models by contributing some computational assets to the general preparing
methodology and can, with the same code, saddle the force of advanced prescient models of the same
gadgets (see Fig. 1). Figure 1: MLitB overview: This figure illustrates the process in ML Programmer

The Disaster Preparedness Cycle Of Chernobyl
Chernobyl, in northern Ukraine and bordering Belarus, was one of the worst industrial disasters in the
world s history (Smith and Beresford, 2005). Even though the immediate effects were catastrophic, the
long term effects have reached far, and continue to affect the area even today. The history of the
disaster, preparedness, and will be discussed, as well as the disaster preparedness cycle. The disaster at
Unit 4 at Chernobyl occurred at 0124 on April 26, 1986 (Smith and Beresford, 2005). At this time,
there were four functional units for generating electricity, with two more being built (Smith and
Beresford, 2005). On April 25, these RBMK 1000 reactors were having supply failure testing
performed at the time of the disaster ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This happened due to a flaw in the RBMK design (Smith and Beresford, 2005). In most reactors, a
pending disaster would lead to the machine reducing its power, and avoiding this type of disaster
(Smith and Beresford, 2005). However, in this design of reactor, when water or steam is lost, power
levels rise, steam is created, and toxins can be released (Smith and Beresford, 2005). Thus, the
radiation from this explosion was spread in the air. After the explosion, first responders rushed in with
no comprehension of what they were exposing themselves to (Smith and Beresford, 2005). During the
immediate aftermath, the levels of radiation were not able to be measured, as no equipment could
measure that high (Smith and Beresford, 2005). Days after Chernobyl Unit 4 had its explosion, the
core was still burning (Smith and Beresford, 2005). Emergency employees attempted to cool the core
with sand, clay, and other materials, but it did not stop until ten days later (Smith and Beresford,
2005). 134 of these workers had acute radiation illness, and 28 of these died months later, with 20
cases having severe radiation illness (Smith and Beresford, 2005). Symptoms included burns, sterility,
and nausea; these were deterministic effects (Smith and Beresford, 2005). This was a result of both

Color Constancy And Working Memory
Is working memory prolonged based on the colour of the font? Furthermore, is it easier to remember
words in bright font than dark font? As colour is a visual stimulus, it has a large impact in improving
the number of words retained in the brain. However, these stimuli can be changed (Ikeda Osaka, 2006,
p.1). Once a word is memorised it is then stored in the brain short or long term. There is three stage
model of how memories are stored which organises memories that are maintained in the brain. The
first stage is sensory memory which stores perceptual input briefly. Secondly short term memory
which holds information for up to thirty seconds and finally; long term memory holding memories
over a large amount of time.
Fawcett, Lawrence Taylor (2006) focused on whether deliberate forgetting of certain memories would
impact the probability of recovering it later from long term memory. The participants were fifteen
females and five male undergraduate students who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The researchers looked at this area of study because colour constancy allows humans to see colours of
objects. If a person did not have colour consistency, an object cannot be identified based on the colour
alone as the changing of light can change the colour of an object. Participants were placed into a Low
Working Memory or High Working memory group. Each group had three males and nine females.
High Working Memory participants showed significantly better colour constancy than Low Working
Memory participants, but the simple colour memory of all participants was consistent. In conclusion
the researchers found that there is in fact a relation between working memory and colour constancy.
This relation may be driven by a requirement for attentional control for successive color constancy, an
idea that has not been considered previously. (Allen, Beilock, Shevell,

Why Jackson May Recover Contract Damages
I PART A
Is Jackson able to recover by way of damages; the students profits made on Airbandb; and the loss for
the three months rent before 1 December?
To show that Jackson may recover contract damages, the following elements must be considered:
1. Breach
2. Loss
3. Causation
4. Remoteness
5. Assessment of damages
A Breach
To claim damages, Jackson must establish breached of contract. The contract prohibits the students
from sub letting the property without Jackson s express permission. Without his knowledge, they sub
let the house on Airbandb, thereby constituting breach.
B Loss
Jackson has lost the profit from three months rent before 1 December.
C Causation
Did students breach cause Jackson to lose rent profits for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Per Hadley v Baxendale remoteness is satisfied where the damage either:
(a) arose naturally according to the usual course of things, from the breach; or
(b) may reasonably be supposed to have been in the contemplation of both parties at the time they
made the contract, as a probable result of the breach.
Applying the first limb, the students were presumably aware that subletting was a serious possibility
in termination and loss of future rent payments (until a new tenant was found), thus rendering the loss
reasonably foreseeable . While the students may argue that the extent of the loss as a full three months
of lost rent renders the loss too remote, per H Parsons (Livestock) Ltd v Uttley Ingham, the
foreseeability of the extent of the harm is irrelevant where the type of harm was foreseeable (as
satisfied above). Thus, remoteness is likely satisfied.
E Assessment of damages
Can Jackson claim loss of bargain damages?
Loss of bargain damages are only recoverable where a contract can be terminated at common law:
Shevill v Builders Licensing Board ( Shevill ). At common law, the right to terminate may arise when
there is a breach of a condition a term so important the party would not have entered into the contract
without assurance of its strict performance: Luna Park (NSW) Ltd v Tramways Advertising Pty Ltd.
This clause is likely to be construed as a condition given the contract is a lease agreement.

Today, competition between the businesses is extremely high thus companies need to find ways to be

the ways to keep their employee motivation on the highest level to perform well within the
competition. At that time, several incentive pay programs play an important role for every
organization to perform well within the competition.

Relationship between Incentive Pay and Employee Work Performance
An incentive pay program can reward employees who continue to produce superior work or encourage
employees who already produce good work to best. Sometimes, use an incentive system when
employees are lack of enthusiasm of getting down to work and improving things. If everyone in the
same job classification gets the same pay, there is no real incentive to do an outstanding job (French,
1990). Various incentive plans used to motivate all employees such as production staff, sales staff,
administrative staff and managerial and professional staff on an individual basis. To be improved
employee work performance, the incentive pay programs need to be fairly matched with the
employees expectation. Properly designed and maintained incentive pay program has the potential to
increase employees productivity and work performance.
There are three main types of incentive plans an organization can be practiced. These are individual
incentive plans, group incentive plans and company wide incentive plans. Moreover, suggestion plans
and positive reinforcement programs can be considered as incentive plans (French, 1990). Flexible
reward systems linked to an individual employee performance called individual incentive plans. Merit

Analysis Of Cormac Mccarthy s The Road
How Effectively Does McCarthy Create a
Sense of What a Post Apocalyptic
World Would be Like?
Cormac McCarthy creates a sense of what a post apocalyptic society in the novel The Road . He does
this by including dreams, description of the physical landscape and human behaviour. This helps
create a sense of a post apocalyptic world because it gives us insight into what it looks like and how
the people think.
McCarthy uses dreams as a recurring theme throughout the text in order to create his post apocalyptic
world. The novel opens with a dream, in which the author creates a monster. The author uses dreams
to create a contrast between a perfect dream world and the cold, dark terrifying world that the
characters live in now. Its bowels, its beating heart. The brain that pulsed in a dull glass bell . This
could be the author creating a metaphor for the horror that the characters are about to face throughout
the book.
Towards the middle of the book the man says that The right dreams for a man in peril were dreams of
peril and all else was the call of languor and death. He dreamt of walking in a flowering wood where
birds flew before them... but he was learning how to wake himself from such siren worlds... with the
uncanny taste of a peach from some phantom orchard fading in his mouth... The father feels this

Strikes And Alternative Forms Of Coping Essays
Strikes and Alternative Forms of Coping
Are strikes the most beneficial way of resolving labour management conflict? Or are alternative forms
of coping more beneficial?. Throughout this paper I will attempt to answer these questions by, first
giving a description of each of these forms of coping. Then I will examine the effects, both positive
and negative, that each of these forms of coping has on the collective bargaining process as well as the
labor management relationship. Finally I will compare the effectiveness of strikes as opposed to the
effectiveness of alternative forms of coping.
A strike occurs when unionized workers collectively agree to stop working in order to ... Show more

Secondly, they can fire anyone who takes part in sabotage or violence during a strike. Third, they can
discontinue benefits during a strike, and they do not have to follow the old agreement, they can change
the terms and conditions of employment until a new agreement is reached. The benefits of striking
include higher wages, more benefits, better working conditions, etc... There is also a negative side to
striking. If management decides to hire replacement workers during your absence, you may not have a
job to return to. Management may be prepared to leave you on strike for long periods of time, for
example, Federated
Co Op allowed the workers in Nipawan to stay on strike for seven years. Also during a strike you are
not receiving a paycheck, unions usually try to pay strikers, but this is usually a fraction of your old
paycheck. Finally during a long strike, the company may have not been able to meet its orders and
may have lost business, this could lead to layoffs when a settlement is reached. Strikes are most
common among highly skilled workers, because they possess a lot of strike power. Strike power is
what it would cost management if you went on strike. If you are a worker at a fast food restaurant you
possess very little strike power because in the event of a strike you could easily be replaced. But if you
have a highly skilled job, it will cost management to hire and train someone to replace you. Striking
does not, in most cases, alter the labor

A patient with hypothyroidism will need to take thyroid replacement hormones for the rest of his or
her life. In most cases once the thyroid hormones are managed and maintained within normal levels
the outcome is positive. A patient with hyperthyroidism will depend on how they react from treatment.
Hyperthyroidism is usually treatable and sometimes it may go away naturally. However, a patient with
hyperthyroidism due to an autoimmune disorder such as Grave s Disease usually gets worse and will
affect quality of life. Hyperthyroidism is a disease that is not preventable. Hypothyroidism is not
preventable either if you have this disease due to natural causes. The only time both hypothyroidism
and hyperthyroidism is when the patient is taking too much medication and has not yet determined the
right dosage of medication. Once the medication is regulated there is no prevention for either once
again. Undiagnosed thyroid disease whether hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism can cause
complications; some more serious than others. One of the most serious risks with hypothyroidism is
Myxedema Coma. This is when the thyroid levels get too low. Other complications for
hypothyroidism are low temperature, bradycardia, bradypnea, low glucose levels, infection, heart

Elias Ashmole, An English Alchemist
Elias Ashmole, an English alchemist during the late Renaissance wrote about the Philosopher s Stone
in the Theatrum Chemicum Britannicum Prolegomena (1652), and is described as a Lightning Stone ,
a meteorite like stone fallen from the sky, or the Angelic Stone as he called it:
Lastly, as touching the Angelical Stone, it is so subtle, said the aforesaid author, that it can neither be
seen, felt, or weighed; but tasted only. The voice of man ( which hears some proportion to these subtle
properties) comes forth in comparison; the Air itself is not so penetrable, and yet (Oh mysterious
Wonder!) a Stone, that will lodge in the Fire to Eternity without being prejudiced. It has a Divine
Power, Celestial and Invisible, above the rest; and endows the possessor with Divine Gifts. It affords
the Apparition of Angel, and gives a power of conversing with them, by Dreams and Revelations; nor
dare any Evil Spirit approach the Place where it lodges. because it is a Quintessence wherein there is
no corruptible Thing; and where the Elements are not corrupted, no Devil can stay or abide.
In Gnosticism, we also find the references to the divine imagination. In the Apocryphon of John, it
quotes a lengthy section from the lost Book of Zoroaster, which explains how the astral rulers or
powers create each part of the material body of Adam and list their appropriate correspondences. The
text tells us, And the one over the imagina

Break The Glass Ceiling
The glass ceiling was first introduced in the 1980 s and is a transparent barrier that women are blocked
into which prevents them from moving up not just at their job but, prevents them from moving up
simply because the gender is female. Since the early 1700 s women have been fighting to become
equal to their male counterpart and still today the battle to break the glass ceiling continues. There are
many discrimination women face in the workplace which Is not limited to their wages in comparison
to men, sexual harassment and job segregation. Women can seek and achieve the highest level of
education but in the corporate world a woman will be kept from reaching the highest paid or reputable
position because it is respectively not accepted. In the labor market, women are often found

The War On The Home Front
In a very short amount of time, America went a serious of events which had great influence on the
home front. Those two events were WWII and the Cold War. Civil rights, the cultural norms, and
society at large, had changed greatly during a short amount of time due to these events. The United
States was fight a war on two fronts, both at home and overseas. The wars overseas had great
influence and impact on the successes that would come over time on the home front. Without these
wars and times of trials and tribulations, the civil rights movement and society as a whole, would most
likely have not had made as large of a shift as it did. During WWII, two groups that had it very rough
on the home front, was African Americans and women. Both of these groups faced many challenges,
but both seen the war as a gateway into regular, white male society. With the advent of WWII, African
Americans saw a further opportunity to press their cause. Hundreds of thousands went to war, with the
expectation that their service would earn them equal rights, once and for all. (Many Rivers to Cross)
When reflecting on the past though, African Americans have fought in every American war since the
revolution, and yet they were still bound by unjust laws. (October 8th Lecture) Both groups had
already overcame many diversities in the pasts, but were faced with an opportunity to possible

International Business and Economics

Introduction
Tata Motors is an automotive company to take notice of. Representing the evolving Indian population
and growing economy of one of the world s key emerging markets, it is a market leader for
commercial vehicles and third for passenger vehicles in the Indian market. It shocked the world by
introducing the $2000 Nano in 2009 and also by growing its portfolio by purchasing Jaguar Land

India is not only becoming a key market for the sale of automobiles but also for the production of
automobiles. By 2016 India is expected to output 3 million of the world s small cars (compared to the

more parts of the supply chain will migrate to India as it provides low cost supplies, highly skilled
engineers, and creative solution to automobile designs.
Although Tata Motors is a market leader for CVs in India, it falls a distant third to Maruti Suzuki for
PVs. As of February 2010, Maruti Suzuki captured 44% of the domestic PV market, whereas Tata only

Maruti Suzuki is a key domestic competitor, especially since it commands a first mover advantage.

The Causes Of Witchcraft Hysteria In The Salem Witch Trials
In 1692, the British colony of Massachusetts endured abnormal accusations of witchcraft against more
than 150 people (Prentice Hall Literature, p. 1087). Many factors caused the witchcraft hysteria to
come alive during the 1600 s. Two important factors were: Daemonologie, written by England s King
James I, and the bewildering behavior of the accusing teenage girls. While Arthur Miller explains that
the accusations could have been made over the lust for land, there are also reasons not explained: how
the role of women and children during the 17th century may have affected their behavior and the
theory of Ergot fungus poisoning the girls minds.
While Daemonologie did solely focus on the existence of witches among people, it also had major ...

During the actual witch trials in Salem, the same group of girls did not conjure in the woods, or dance
nakedly during the night, but instead grouped together to listen to the stories of an Indian slave,
Tituba, whose stories involved magic and power. The girls were also much younger in actuality than
Miller depicts them to be in his play ( Salem Witch Trials History Channel. YouTube). While Arthur
Miller does touch on the subject of the witch trials bringing about opportunities for revenge against
disliked neighbors or enemies, he does not mention the role of women and children during this time
period.
In the 17th century, as well as centuries before and after, the role of women was to serve their husband
and fill his desires: bearing a child, meeting his sexual desires, keeping a clean household, and serving
her family food. She was not to be seen as an equal to her husband or any other man, and rarely ever
talked to her husband about matters involving business, religion, or important decisions ( Salem Witch
Trials History Channel. YouTube). The same concept applied to children during this time, with the
idea of children should be seen and not heard. When the two qualities are put together, a female child,
you can only imagine how inferior they felt and how insignificantly they were treated by surrounding
men in the community. With this in mind, as well as considering

Waterfall model: This model has five phase like requirements, design, implementation, verification
and maintenance. It is a sequential process. It is originated from manufacturing and construction
industries. It is proposed by Royce. This model is series of cascading steps that covers actual
development process of the project and has iteration between its steps. The main problem with this
model is that rigidity of the model and there is no iteration between any other stages other than
adjacent stages. As we all know that web is the fastest mode of developing technology, therefore a
model which will automatically adapt to the changes taking place in the environment are to be
preferred.

Love And Marriage In Pride And Prejudice And Bridget...
ESSAY
The context of a novel or film can greatly affect the values of society through the key concepts of love
and marriage, and feminine appearance of a woman. We can clearly observe the comparisons of Jane
Austen s 1813 novel Pride and Prejudice to Sharon Maguire s 1997 film Bridget Jone s Diary. The
novel Pride and Prejudice was composed in the Regency period where marriage was vitally important
for a woman as it meant a financially stable future, and usually not based on love, whereas Bridget
Jones Diary set in a contemporary society where woman married for love and were economically
independent. However, both text explores similar aspects where both heroine challenges the
expectations of women and both are not constrained by the strict social conformity of a woman.
To marry a wealthy man was the only option for women to guarantee a life without economic
concerns and this is explored in the opening line of It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single
man in possession of a good fortune, must in want of a wife where Jane Austen uses verbal irony as it
is not the man seeking a woman, but the other way around. Woman could only consider marrying a
man if he is considered as the rightful property . The use of personification emphasizes that men were
only determined as a property and to provide a financially secure future. In the novel, the Bennet
sisters had to gain financial status through marriage, but Elizabeth did not want to marry based upon
wealth. When

Essay about European Colonialism and Imperialism
How were the Europeans able to conquer and control large areas of the globe? What gave them a great
advantage over other groups? The proximate cause of this advantage was their possession of guns,
germs, and steel. But how is it that they possessed these things and others did not? Ultimate causes of
the Europeans possession of these guns, germs, and steel could be Divine Providence. People at the
time thought that God favored the Europeans over other groups. Another ultimate cause could have
been Scientific Racism. Other people believed that the Europeans were genetically superior to the
other regions of the world. Now, because of Jared Diamond s thesis, we can conclude that the ultimate
cause of European colonialism and imperialism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Africa had 51 candidates but none of them could be domesticated. In the Americas, there were 24
candidates but only 1 was domesticated. In Australia, there was only 1 candidate and they could not
domesticate it. Even though there were many of candidates for domestication in areas other than
Eurasia, most of those animals just simply couldn t be domesticated. It was not because of the cultures
in these places, it was because the animals had to fit under certain requirements. They had to be the
right size, have an easy diet, have a stable growth rate, and have a pleasant disposition. For example,
an elephant could not be domesticated because it takes a long time for the elephant to reach its full
size. Also, a zebra could not be domesticated because it would violently bite and, zebras in general,
were too hard to domesticate. Again, we have a clear example of geographic luck. Disease gave
Europe a large advantage when conquering wide expanses of land around the globe. South Africans
and Australian Aborigines had no domesticated animals. They didn t form any immunity to European
diseases because they did not live in close proximity with any non domesticated animals. However,
Europeans had lived with domesticated farm animals for thousands of years. The diseases of the
Europeans came from farm animals but immunities formed over time. The Native Americans, South
Africans, and Australian Aborigines did not have any immunity to disease like the Europeans did. The

The Hutcheson Case Study
Based on the way the boys were found, hog tied and cut, as well as rumors that started floating
around, police started to suspect that the crime might have been part of a cult ritual. Damien Echols
had been known to listen to satanic music and possibly was part of a satanic cult although he denied
any affiliation with a cult or with the crime. Jason Baldwin was a friend of Echols however he was
different in that he excelled in school and out of the three teenagers probably had the best shot of
going to college and making a life for himself. Jesse Misskelly Jr. didn t really know Echols or
Baldwin but Vicki Hutcheson, a woman who helped police with the search thought he might have
some information on the case. Hutcheson played a crucial roll in the investigation as she gave
testimony of her knowledge that the teens had committed the murder. Misskelly, who had an
extremely low IQ and was a minor, was questioned for about twelve hours. At the end of the
questioning he confessed to the crimes and told the police he had acted with Echols and Baldwin as ...

The crime scene itself was absolutely a mess, as the police did not wait for a medical examiner to

Flowers remain blooming when the sun is out for 1 or 2 days, being replaced by a seed capsule that
grows large, and later splits open to release its seeds. The rhizomes that are found at the roots of these
flowers, and the foliage contain a reddish juice. Over time the plants often form vegetative colonies,
these colonies self pollinate to reproduce.
The reproductive system of the bloodroot is one that contain several strategies. The bloodroot limits
self pollination, hoping that the pollinator landing on it will bring pollen from another to bloodroot to
cross pollinate them. This happens when the stigma which is the middle of the flower and the female
reproductive organs becomes receptive before the anthers which are the male reproductive organs.
This strategy puts a limit on the amount of times the same flower can come in contact with receptive
stigma. The first few days when the flower is opening the antlers bends over towards the outside of the
flower, distancing themselves from the receptive stigma. When its warm pollinators fly around and
deposit pollen from one bloodroot onto the receptive stigma when visiting the flower. This is easily
done by bloodroots because they pollinate when other flowers aren t, which eliminates the chances for
other competition with other flowers. This primary pollinator for the bloodroot are mining bees,
collecting pollen from the underside of their bellies. Sweat bees feed on the

Selecting Appropriate Books For Children
Selecting Appropriate Books for Children As children interact with their environment and the people
around them, their linguistic, cognitive, social, and emotional abilities develop further. Through these
interactions, children construct knowledge by organizing and classifying the new knowledge based on
prior learning experiences (Brown, Lee, 2012). Vygotsky believed social interactions influence both
intellectual and language development, and he identified social interactions as the key method in
developing new understandings. Therefore, providing books and reading experiences which include
social interactions will enhance literacy development (Traverse, Traverse, 2008). The purpose of this
paper is to explain the importance of possessing knowledge of child developmental theory when
selecting appropriate children s books, and explain why considering language development, social and
emotional response, and cognitive ability are important. The paper will conclude with issues and
insights regarding Reading Readiness and the impact of gender on book choice. Importance of
Knowledge of Theory There are numerous children s books available for educators to utilize as they
create, integrate, and incorporate reading books into their lessons. When selecting books for students,
many factors come into play. One central component to employ when selecting Children s books is
ensuring the book is developmentally appropriate for the child (Lennox, 2013). In order to select

This is true: the committee investigating the event managed to expose the failure using extensive

some people that disagree with the concept because they feel that as long as no one was seriously hurt
then, they do not consider it a crime. Some examples that people believe that are not victimless crimes
would be gambling, prostitution, pornography, and substance abuse. The victimless crime that I have

The full disclosure principle states that any future event that may or will occur, and thatwill have a

example, a hotel should report the building of a new wing, or the future acquisition of another

When firms enter new markets or businesses, the way they structure these new businesses can result in
greater complexity and less transparency. For instance, a firm that keeps each business separate will be
easier to value than one that squeezes all the businesses into a single entity.
The cause of poor transparency, however, is less important than its effect on a company s ability to
give investors the critical information they need to value their investments. If investors neither believe
nor understand financial statements, the performance and fundamental value of that company remains
either irrelevant or distorted. Mounting evidence suggests that the market gives a higher value to firms
that are upfront with investors and analysts. Transparency pays, companies with fuller disclosure win
more trust from investors. Relevant and reliable information means less risk to investors and thus a
lower cost of capital, which naturally translates into higher valuations. Of course, there are two ways
to interpret this evidence. One is that the market rewards more transparent companies with higher
valuations because the risk of unpleasant surprises is believed to be lower. The other interpretation is
that companies with good results usually release their earnings earlier. Companies that are doing well
have nothing to hide and are eager to publicize their good performance. It is in their best

  • 2. Hospital Supply Chain Management Supply Chain 1 I Care Healthcare Supply Chain Management By Jeffrey S. Moser Operations Management MGT 554 Professor Stephen Wernick October 12, 2004 Supply Chain 2 Supply Chain Management plays a vital role in our hospitals today. With the growing cost of healthcare and new technologies, it is vital for hospitals to run as efficiently as possible and without jeopardizing care. To the materials manager and to the financial minds of a hospital the area of supply chain is a tedius task at best, the kind of planning, strategizing and measuring that seldom goes recognized and rewarded. The work involved with inventory control fits tightly within that description. In many hospitals today, it is easy for inventory control to go astray and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Until that time comes, if ever, there needs to be another solution. There is no quick fix, but I will start with a list of criteria that will help us better control I Cares inventory, understand what is being spent, where it is being spent and areas where we can cut costs on supplys, which according to ASCET (Achieving Supply Chain Excellence through Technology) makes up between 25 and 30% of a hospitals operating costs. 1. Understand your spend. Knowing exactly what you are keeping in inventory, where it comes from, and how it s received, handled and stored is critical to inventory reduction efforts. There are many programs that can gather and track this data, but technology is an enabler not a solution. There must still be business processes in place to analyze this data to make it worthwhile. 2. Rationalize SKUs. This requires data about what SKUs are being used, by whom, and for what. This is the biggest challenge, but armed with this information, you ll be able to impact inventory levels, SKU proliferation, leverage substitutes and alternates or even the need to stock certain materials at all. 3. Leverage key strategic partners/distributors for information and just in time services which will substitute inventory stockpiles. This means you get only what you need. And, should you need more of a product on occasion, you know exactly where to find it. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Important Discoveries in Physics Essay Ideas in the subject of Physics are never absolute; it is a forever changing topic. We think we have discovered everything there is to know about it, and then we find out something new that changes everything. That is one of the reasons physics is so interesting to learn about there will always be something new. There are many very important discoveries in Physics. This paper will describe some of the discoveries. These discoveries are prevalent throughout history and in our daily lives. One of the oldest, but nonetheless important, discoveries in physics is The Law of Falling Bodies. Discovered by Galileo Galilei, it remains a fundamental part of physics even today. It states that all objects that are falling, no matter mass, height, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If they were not important then people would not have heard so much about them. Isaac Newton was a mathematician and physicist that discovered the three laws of motion. The laws are as follows: 1) An object in motion remains in motion unless an external force is applied to it. 2) The relationship between an object s mass (m), its acceleration (a) and the applied force (F) is F = ma. 3) For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. With these three laws, Newton created the basis for modern day engineering. These laws helped many other physicists to discover meaningful things. Newton s first law of motion is usually referred to as the law of inertia. Inertia is defined as the property of matter by which it retains its state of rest or its velocity along a straight line so long as it is not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Franz Kafka s The Penal Colony Essay In Franz Kafka s In the Penal Colony, there is no presumption of innocence whatsoever; there is only presumption. Innocent until proven guilty. This presumption of innocence is considered to be the foundation of a civilized criminal justice system, as well as within the fundamental rights of mankind. The Officer says that guilt is never to be doubted, and because he was ordained the judge of the penal colony, there is no proper trial or due process needed, as all are guilty in the eyes of the one who judges (Kafka, p.198). If the punishments delivered to the guilty were less severe, than there would perhaps be fewer qualms about the system, however the justice dispensed by the machine is nowhere near reasonable or humane, dispensing grievous punishments that far exceed most crimes to those who are condemned. However, it is important to remember that the apparatus and its function are simply an extension of the ideology of the Old Commandant and the Officer who are the true punishers. The punishments the officer administers through the device to the condemned seem to be an example of just one of the two types of justice criticized in the text. The first type of justice is the excruciating suffering wrought by the officer and Old Commandant through the apparatus upon the naturally guilty, almost like divine punishment raining down from the heavens to strike down sinners. The other justice is the presumption of innocence and civilized law and order of liberal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Lifestyle Of The Amphibian The lifestyle of the amphibian is very complex and fragile. Just the mere fact that amphibians are biphasic causes them to run into a variety of problems. Since they deal with both an aquatic and terrestrial environment, they tend to run into an increased amount of pollutants and environmental changes. Pollution both on land and in water can affect water pH and other variables that can be very harmful to an amphibian s survival. Since amphibians can be used basically as biomarkers to the environment, the study and resolution of this problem can aid in two conservation efforts. Not only will we be able to increase amphibian populations but we also help make environments less polluted. Healthy amphibians equal a healthy habitat for all. The reason why amphibians are considered biomarkers is because they have a rather unique skin. It is thin and permeable because most all amphibians use their skin for respiration. This also allows the skin to absorb and excrete water. That means if the water is polluted or contains impurities, the amphibian will absorb all these changes through their skin. This can make the animal very sick. It s even worse for the larvae and eggs of the amphibians. Larval and neotenic amphibians are completely aquatic and have less keratinized skin then most adult amphibians. This makes them more affected by changes in water composition. Since amphibians don t lay shelled eggs, the embryos are directly exposed with the water and all its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The Field Of Machine Learning Essay Literature Review Introduction: Machine learning is a part of software engineering that advanced from the examination of pattern recognition and computational learning hypothesis in AI (artificial Intelligence). Machine learning scrutinizes the study and development of algorithms that can gain from and make forecasts of the information. The field of Machine Learning (ML) currently lacks a common platform for the development of collaborative computing. By composing ML models and algorithms in browser based programming languages, numerous exploration opportunities are accessible. The most evident is programming similarity: almost all registering gadgets can team up on the preparation of ML models by contributing some computational assets to the general preparing methodology and can, with the same code, saddle the force of advanced prescient models of the same gadgets (see Fig. 1). The Disaster Preparedness Cycle Of Chernobyl Chernobyl, in northern Ukraine and bordering Belarus, was one of the worst industrial disasters in the world s history (Smith and Beresford, 2005). This happened due to a flaw in the RBMK design (Smith and Beresford, 2005). In most reactors, a pending disaster would lead to the machine reducing its power, and avoiding this type of disaster (Smith and Beresford, 2005). However, in this design of reactor, when water or steam is lost, power levels rise, steam is created, and toxins can be released (Smith and Beresford, 2005). Thus, the radiation from this explosion was spread in the air. After the explosion, first responders rushed in with no comprehension of what they were exposing themselves to (Smith and Beresford, 2005). During the immediate aftermath, the levels of radiation were not able to be measured, as no equipment could measure that high (Smith and Beresford, 2005). Days after Chernobyl Unit 4 had its explosion, the core was still burning (Smith and Beresford, 2005). Emergency employees attempted to cool the core with sand, clay, and other materials, but it did not stop until ten days later (Smith and Beresford, 2005). 134 of these workers had acute radiation illness, and 28 of these died months later, with 20 cases having severe radiation illness (Smith and Beresford, 2005). • 14. Color Constancy And Working Memory Is working memory prolonged based on the colour of the font? Furthermore, is it easier to remember words in bright font than dark font? As colour is a visual stimulus, it has a large impact in improving the number of words retained in the brain. However, these stimuli can be changed (Ikeda Osaka, 2006, p.1). Once a word is memorised it is then stored in the brain short or long term. There is three stage model of how memories are stored which organises memories that are maintained in the brain. The first stage is sensory memory which stores perceptual input briefly. Secondly short term memory which holds information for up to thirty seconds and finally; long term memory holding memories over a large amount of time. High Working Memory participants showed significantly better colour constancy than Low Working Memory participants, but the simple colour memory of all participants was consistent. In conclusion the researchers found that there is in fact a relation between working memory and colour constancy. Per Hadley v Baxendale remoteness is satisfied where the damage either: (a) arose naturally according to the usual course of things, from the breach; or (b) may reasonably be supposed to have been in the contemplation of both parties at the time they made the contract, as a probable result of the breach. Applying the first limb, the students were presumably aware that subletting was a serious possibility in termination and loss of future rent payments (until a new tenant was found), thus rendering the loss reasonably foreseeable . While the students may argue that the extent of the loss as a full three months of lost rent renders the loss too remote, per H Parsons (Livestock) Ltd v Uttley Ingham, the foreseeability of the extent of the harm is irrelevant where the type of harm was foreseeable (as satisfied above). Thus, remoteness is likely satisfied. E Assessment of damages Can Jackson claim loss of bargain damages?

The author uses dreams to create a contrast between a perfect dream world and the cold, dark terrifying world that the characters live in now. Its bowels, its beating heart. If management decides to hire replacement workers during your absence, you may not have a job to return to. Management may be prepared to leave you on strike for long periods of time, for example, Federated Co Op allowed the workers in Nipawan to stay on strike for seven years. Also during a strike you are not receiving a paycheck, unions usually try to pay strikers, but this is usually a fraction of your old paycheck. Finally during a long strike, the company may have not been able to meet its orders and may have lost business, this could lead to layoffs when a settlement is reached. Strikes are most common among highly skilled workers, because they possess a lot of strike power. Strike power is what it would cost management if you went on strike. If you are a worker at a fast food restaurant you possess very little strike power because in the event of a strike you could easily be replaced. The girls were also much younger in actuality than Miller depicts them to be in his play ( Salem Witch Trials History Channel. YouTube). While Arthur Miller does touch on the subject of the witch trials bringing about opportunities for revenge against disliked neighbors or enemies, he does not mention the role of women and children during this time period. In the 17th century, as well as centuries before and after, the role of women was to serve their husband and fill his desires: bearing a child, meeting his sexual desires, keeping a clean household, and serving her family food. She was not to be seen as an equal to her husband or any other man, and rarely ever talked to her husband about matters involving business, religion, or important decisions ( Salem Witch Trials History Channel. When the two qualities are put together, a female child, you can only imagine how inferior they felt and how insignificantly they were treated by surrounding men in the community. • 31. Love And Marriage In Pride And Prejudice And Bridget... ESSAY The context of a novel or film can greatly affect the values of society through the key concepts of love and marriage, and feminine appearance of a woman. We can clearly observe the comparisons of Jane Austen s 1813 novel Pride and Prejudice to Sharon Maguire s 1997 film Bridget Jone s Diary. The novel Pride and Prejudice was composed in the Regency period where marriage was vitally important for a woman as it meant a financially stable future, and usually not based on love, whereas Bridget Jones Diary set in a contemporary society where woman married for love and were economically independent. However, both text explores similar aspects where both heroine challenges the expectations of women and both are not constrained by the strict social conformity of a woman. To marry a wealthy man was the only option for women to guarantee a life without economic concerns and this is explored in the opening line of It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must in want of a wife where Jane Austen uses verbal irony as it is not the man seeking a woman, but the other way around. Woman could only consider marrying a man if he is considered as the rightful property . The use of personification emphasizes that men were only determined as a property and to provide a financially secure future. In the novel, the Bennet sisters had to gain financial status through marriage, but Elizabeth did not want to marry based upon wealth. When ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The proximate cause of this advantage was their possession of guns, germs, and steel. But how is it that they possessed these things and others did not? Ultimate causes of the Europeans possession of these guns, germs, and steel could be Divine Providence. People at the time thought that God favored the Europeans over other groups. Another ultimate cause could have been Scientific Racism. Other people believed that the Europeans were genetically superior to the other regions of the world. In Australia, there was only 1 candidate and they could not domesticate it. Even though there were many of candidates for domestication in areas other than Eurasia, most of those animals just simply couldn t be domesticated. It was not because of the cultures in these places, it was because the animals had to fit under certain requirements. They had to be the right size, have an easy diet, have a stable growth rate, and have a pleasant disposition. For example, an elephant could not be domesticated because it takes a long time for the elephant to reach its full size. Also, a zebra could not be domesticated because it would violently bite and, zebras in general, were too hard to domesticate. Again, we have a clear example of geographic luck. Disease gave Europe a large advantage when conquering wide expanses of land around the globe. South Africans and Australian Aborigines had no domesticated animals. The Hutcheson Case Study Based on the way the boys were found, hog tied and cut, as well as rumors that started floating around, police started to suspect that the crime might have been part of a cult ritual. Damien Echols had been known to listen to satanic music and possibly was part of a satanic cult although he denied any affiliation with a cult or with the crime. Jason Baldwin was a friend of Echols however he was different in that he excelled in school and out of the three teenagers probably had the best shot of going to college and making a life for himself. Jesse Misskelly Jr. didn t really know Echols or Baldwin but Vicki Hutcheson, a woman who helped police with the search thought he might have some information on the case. Hutcheson played a crucial roll in the investigation as she gave testimony of her knowledge that the teens had committed the murder. The rhizomes that are found at the roots of these flowers, and the foliage contain a reddish juice. Over time the plants often form vegetative colonies, these colonies self pollinate to reproduce. The reproductive system of the bloodroot is one that contain several strategies. The bloodroot limits self pollination, hoping that the pollinator landing on it will bring pollen from another to bloodroot to cross pollinate them. This happens when the stigma which is the middle of the flower and the female reproductive organs becomes receptive before the anthers which are the male reproductive organs. This strategy puts a limit on the amount of times the same flower can come in contact with receptive stigma. The first few days when the flower is opening the antlers bends over towards the outside of the flower, distancing themselves from the receptive stigma. When its warm pollinators fly around and deposit pollen from one bloodroot onto the receptive stigma when visiting the flower. This is easily done by bloodroots because they pollinate when other flowers aren t, which eliminates the chances for other competition with other flowers. Selecting Appropriate Books For Children Selecting Appropriate Books for Children As children interact with their environment and the people around them, their linguistic, cognitive, social, and emotional abilities develop further. Through these interactions, children construct knowledge by organizing and classifying the new knowledge based on prior learning experiences (Brown, Lee, 2012). Vygotsky believed social interactions influence both intellectual and language development, and he identified social interactions as the key method in developing new understandings. Therefore, providing books and reading experiences which include social interactions will enhance literacy development (Traverse, Traverse, 2008). The purpose of this paper is to explain the importance of possessing knowledge of child developmental theory when selecting appropriate children s books, and explain why considering language development, social and emotional response, and cognitive ability are important. The paper will conclude with issues and insights regarding Reading Readiness and the impact of gender on book choice. For instance, a firm that keeps each business separate will be easier to value than one that squeezes all the businesses into a single entity. The cause of poor transparency, however, is less important than its effect on a company s ability to give investors the critical information they need to value their investments. If investors neither believe nor understand financial statements, the performance and fundamental value of that company remains either irrelevant or distorted. Mounting evidence suggests that the market gives a higher value to firms that are upfront with investors and analysts. Transparency pays, companies with fuller disclosure win more trust from investors. Relevant and reliable information means less risk to investors and thus a lower cost of capital, which naturally translates into higher valuations. Of course, there are two ways to interpret this evidence. One is that the market rewards more transparent companies with higher valuations because the risk of unpleasant surprises is believed to be lower. The other interpretation is that companies with good results usually release their earnings earlier.
