Compare And Contrast To A Locomotive In Winter
To begin with, To a Locomotive in Winter , written by Walt Whitman and Emily Dickinson s I like to
see it lap the Miles are fairly different poems. In To a Locomotive in Winter , the author writes about a
locomotive and represents it in rather a positive way, using strong and vivid figurative language.
While reading the poem, it is apparent that, in general, the speaker while talking about a locomotive
implies American technological progress and, obviously, supports it. That is shown through the
establishment of a link between science and poetry. Even though I like to see it lap the Miles written
by Emily Dickinson is also about a locomotive and within the poem, poetry and science are
connected, still, the author s approach differs from Whitman s manner. Evidently, it is possible to
notice some negative implications. Specifically, the speaker may be afraid of the ongoing
technological progress in America and does not support its connotations. During the 1870s, America
underwent an impressive technological progress and in To ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author compares it to a horse and other animals but does not directly name the train and by means
of figurative language and poetic devices creates a distinct image for the reader and enables to
experience the feelings of the narrator. Dickinson s manner slightly differ from the manner of
Whitman even though their themes are corresponding. In particular, while Whitman observes a train
with admiration and respect to its strength and force, it is possible to notice that Dickinson views a
locomotive as a ravenously hungry creature. The train perpetually consumes during the traveling.
Furthermore, it does not require human help to feed itself and that becomes obvious in the third line,
And stop to feed itself at tanks (Dickinson). Probably, Dickinson symbolically implies the
technological progress in America which have already begun gather

Comparing John Stuart Mill s The Subjection of Women and Florence Nightingale s Cassandra
For thousands of years, women have struggled under the domination of men. In a great many societies
around the world, men hold the power and women have to fight for their roles as equals in these
patriarchal societies. Florence Nightingale wrote about such a society in her piece, Cassandra, and
John Stuart Mill wrote further on the subject in his essay The Subjection of Women. These two pieces
explore the same basic idea, but there are differences as well. While they both recognize its presence,
Mill blames the subjection of women on custom, and Nightingale blames it on society. These appear
to be different arguments, but they may be more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He feels that because women have been in this position for so many years, it would feel irregular to
deviate from it. The subjection of women to men being a universal custom, any departure from it quite
naturally appears unnatural (Mill 1157). As he continues, he reveals his thoughts on the matter to the
reader: this relic of the past is discordant with the future, and must necessarily disappear (Mill 1159).
Mill explores many aspects of the issue. He attempts to uncover the differences between the sexes to
provide maybe another solution to the problem, but to no avail, nothing final can be known (Mill
1162); nothing is as strongly stated as when he places the blame on custom. Later in his essay, while
exploring the systems of past societies, he comes to the same conclusion as earlier. Only this time, he
states that there has been some improvement in the system as time went by; however, equality has not
yet been reached. He believes that the small increase in power over time is enough to suggest that
equality is the solution: Through all...human history, the condition of women has been approaching
nearer to equality with men. This does not itself prove that the assimilation must go on to complete
equality; but it assuredly affords some presumption that such is the case (Mill 1160). This quote is yet
another contribution to the blame of custom. In the past, societies lacked equality

The Conservation Of Energy Lab Essay
Introduction: For the conservation of energy lab three experiments were performed. Terrestrial
Gravitation Acceleration, First Law of Thermodynamics and Centripetal Acceleration vs. First Law of
Thermodynamics. Each of the experiments demonstrated the importance of the first law of
thermodynamic and how its present on our daily lives. Therefore, reinforcing the importance of
thermodynamics concepts and their role in our society.
Objectives:
Experiment A: Terrestrial Gravitational Acceleration
The main objective of experiment A, was to measure the gravitational acceleration of earth upon
between two distinct masses; and to measure and record time and mass in order to calculate an
experimental value for gravity. Experiment B: First Law of Thermodynamics
The main objective was to demonstrate the first law of thermodynamics which states that energy
cannot be destroyed or created, therefore, it has to be conserved in one form or another during a
thermodynamic process. For this reason, two traveling cars were used along a low slope slide to
harness gravitational potential energy between two points and see it transformed into kinetic energy.
Experiment C: Centripetal Acceleration vs. First Law of Thermodynamics
The main objective was to find the minimum height required for the travelling car to complete the
loop track successfully by thermodynamics forces of conservation of energy and centripetal
acceleration. Moreover, the minimum height also had to satisfy an

Testing Conditioning Methods Through Sniffy Simulation
Testing Conditioning Methods through Sniffy Simulation
Amir Ayoub
Fordham University
Abstract
This lab tests different forms of conditioning on a virtual rat named Sniffy. In this experiment we
began with the virtual rat completely unconditioned and then worked towards getting Sniffy to pull the
lever and get food on his own. We went through many steps to complete this task starting with getting
Sniffy to notice the food chamber, the lever, and finally having Sniffy realize he can obtain food
whenever he wanted by pressing the lever. Then, pushing it further, we made him press the level two,
three, four and then five times to receive one pellet. All of these steps tested the idea that receiving the
food as a reward will allow Sniffy to realize the benefits of learning and conditioning himself to do
things that have a positive outcome more.
Testing Conditioning Methods through Sniffy Simulation
This lab is focused on the ideas of classical and operant conditioning. Classical conditioning is when a
neutral stimulus is paired with an unconditioned stimulus to elicit an unconditioned response. In time
this turns the neutral stimulus into a conditioned stimulus that causes a conditioned response. Operant
conditioning is a method of learning that occurs through reinforcements and punishments for behavior
and encourages associating desirable or undesirable outcomes with certain behaviors.
The most famous research on this would be

The Challenges Of A Sharie Lawyer
The Challenges of Sharie Lawyers In reality, in every field of works there are challenges that need to

many challenges throughout their journey. The challenges of the shari e lawyer will be discussed
further below. The challenges of sharie lawyer can be seen before the admission and after been
admitted as a lawyer. Firstly, in order to be admitted as a syarie lawyer, there are many procedures that
need to be followed. One of them is a need to sit for Interview or Written Examination. It surely will
cause difficulties to those who interested to become a Sharie Lawyer. In some states such a Negeri
Sembilan and Penang, the person has to undergo chambering for several period mentioned, then has to
sit for either oral interview, or written examination or even both. Thus, chambering period do not

Healthy Eating
Eating Healthy on a Budget
We all know how easy it is to stop by a fast food restaurant on our way home from work or while
running our kids back and forth to their sports but we don t really stop to think what that food is doing
to our bodies and how much it really does cost to eat out rather than taking a detour to the grocery
store and buy healthy meals and snacks. Most of us are trying to save money any way we can right
now. As living on a budget becomes more important, it is helpful to look at how to stretch your food
dollars and still eat a healthy diet. In these days of bank closures, foreclosures and greater than 10%
unemployed, it is not easy to buy foods that are healthy for us. While eating healthier can cost more

Eat Well, Be Well Eating the required five servings a day of fruits and vegetables and cutting down on
saturated fat and sugar is proven to help your health.
Can you imagine the vicious cycle created for the American poor? One of the endemic plagues of
poverty, poor nutrition, has been further compounded by the fact that the less money you have, the
less able you ll be to buy any truly nutritious foods. Dr. Adam Drewnowski, director of the center for
public health nutrition at the University of Washington, reveals the very real daily challenge those on a
tight budget face: If you have $3 to feed yourself, your choices gravitate toward foods which give you
the most calories per dollar, not only are the empty calories cheaper, but the healthy foods are
becoming more and more expensive. Vegetables and fruits are rapidly becoming luxury goods. (Dr.
Drewnowski).
Older people are most likely to improve their eating habits, but nutrition is important for people of all
ages, says Walter Willet, M.D., chairman of the nutrition department at the Harvard School of Public
Health. We know that when people have health problems or their friends become ill, these are strong
motivators of change, the more serious the health condition, the more serious the change. We d rather
have people make changes early and prevent health problems in the first place. (Willet).

Plum Point Park Essay
Issue Proposition Plum Point Park was once a place for sprouted overgrown weeds and rotting piers.
Through initiative and optimism, West Ghent Civic League proposed to transition the bleak plot of
land into a permanent park in the early 1990 s. 10 years and $1.5 million later, the park is now
considered an open natural refuge for local residents and home for various wildlife living along the
Elizabeth River. Granted Plum Point Park is an artificial park, there is still a lot of potentials that the
park can amount to. Due to the lack of green spaces and aesthetically appealing areas throughout the
park, the scenery can become very monotonous. In August of 2016, Global Shapers Norfolk (GSN)

Contributions Of Charles Darwin
Charles Darwin was an intelligent man. He didn t exactly succeed in the school institution even
though his family was wealthy, they didn t help Darwin with his courses in college. Dr. Robert
Darwin, Darwin s father sent him to medical school at Edinburg but unfortunately, Darwin flunked out
and was sent to Cambridge University for ministry. At Cambridge his professor, John Henslow took
Darwin scientific studies seriously and introduced him to influential people like Captain Robert
Fitzroy of the royal navy. Darwin embarked on the HMS Beagle as Fitzroy s naturalist unpaid
companion. The caption was given two missions, completed a survey of the southern coast of South
American and to obtain more accurate fixes of longitudes by using new instruments. Darwin plans
were to observe and collect specimens on the voyage. One of Darwin s most significant discoveries
was his discovery of the finches located on the Galápagos Islands. The finches were a major key to
Darwin s theory of natural selection. Traveling in the HMS Beagle also gave Charles Darwin the idea
of the theory of evolution and natural selection.
Darwin s voyage on the beagle was single handed the most important and defining moment of his
career. The beagle was a navy vessel which carried approximately 75 individuals. Darwin had a
different position on the ship as his counterparts. His father paid his way on the beagle which gave
him perks that his fellow naturalist did not have (Janice c

Rose For Emily Foreshadowing

of view is one of the areas where the two stories bare a similarity. This point of view allows the reader
ample time to analyze the various clues provided by the narrator, to discover the final outcome. In
addition, the use of clues, or foreshadowing is another similarity found in both stories. Although, the
point of view and the use of foreshadowing is similar, the delivery of these elements are not. In A

Gabriel Conroy As A Repetitive Life In The Dead By James...
Being stuck in a repetitive life causes people to be disillusioned to true meanings of life and feelings
of others, while also becoming emotionally distant themselves. Having a traditional lifestyle
consisting of the same routines separates those who are living a life of passion with those who are
unable to see their uninteresting existence. In the novella The Dead by James Joyce, he uses
symbolism and contrast to portray Gabriel Conroy as a dynamic character who turns his ignorant, self
satisfied and repetitive life into a journey of self discovery. who leads an unfulfilled, apathetic, and
ignorant life through the use of symbolism and contrast Throughout the short story, Joyce uses the
literary device symbolism to show how Gabriel Conroy comes to the realization of his unsatisfying
life and that he thinks more about his unimportant actions, desires, and tedious routines than being
passionate and having an impactful life. One example of a symbol the author uses is snow, which has
multiple representations for Gabriel. Towards the beginning of the book it indicates death, paralysis,
and hidden truth, while at the end it symbolizes him seeking a new beginning filled with purity. For
instance, the quote A light fringe of snow lay like a cape on the shoulders of his overcoat and like
toecaps on the toes of his goloshes... (139) illustrates the connection Gabriel has with death as it is
metaphorically visible on him, and shows that it not only is impending on him, but

I believe that one the most major innovation that also brought change in the market revolution was the
Eli Whitney s invention of the cotton gin in 1793 because America lacked cotton most of 1700s,
regardless of the fact that they had ability to construct textile factories and had waterways for
transport. The southern planters in the past made effort to grow cotton, but never succeeded because
cotton was labor intensive, so they dropped the idea and went to plant rice and tobacco, because
during that period they tried growing cotton, it normally takes a lot of manpower and slaves use a
whole day to separate maybe a pound of cotton seeds from fibers. They basically dropped every other
crop in place of the newly profitable cotton. Also With the invention of the cotton gins, factories in the
North were producing cotton cloth and cotton became the major crop in the south. Also the planters
wanted increases in slave labor to plant enough cotton to take advantage of their new production
capacity and this made them purchase thousands of slaves from the West Indies and Africa before
slave trading was banned. As a result of the purchase of this slaves and extra manpower, the individual
plantations increased in sizes, from the normal small plots to big farms with as many as several
hundred slaves each. Due to the economic bloom there was a demand in labor

Motherhood Is A Major Theme Portrayed By Peter Pan
The idea of motherhood is a major theme portrayed in this novel. Motherhood is having a child of
your on and raising tht child to become the best they can be. Being there to support and love them
when ever they need you to. J.M. Barrie s Peter Pan is a children s story about a boy who never wants
to grow up and become an adult. Although the concept of having a mother is symbolized throughout
Peter Pan, it is motherhood itself that prevents Peter Pan and others from maturing into responsible
adulthood. Peter Pan wants a mother, but at the same time Peter does not trust mothers because he
believes that his birth mother betrayed him. Peter also believes that mothers turn children into adults.
The novel s opening scene is in the nursery of the Darling house, and it also ends in the nursery. The
nursery is very important for the Darling family. It is where John, Wendy and Michael sleep, and
where they are taken care of by Mr. Darling and Mrs. Darling and also by their dog called Nana. Nana
is portrayed as a maid in the novel because the Darlings could not afford to pay a human to work for
them. The fact that J.M. Barrie decides on the nursery for being the location for both the beginning
and the end of the novel is symbolic of the importance of family life and maternal care in the novel
Peter Pan. After the Darling children return back home from their adventures in Neverland, they come
back to the nursery to be taken care of again by their mother and father. Wendy, which

The Cost Of Passenger Cruise
1. After running two different regression models using passenger cruise days and number of
passengers to predict which variable better estimates total cost, the data (including a slightly higher
adjusted r squared) suggests the number of passenger cruise days acts as a better predictor of total
costs. The number of passenger cruise days is more economically plausible because it is more logical
to allocate the costs based on the number of passenger cruise days rather than the number of
passengers. More specifically, number of passengers does not fully explain the amount of total costs
because of the varying duration of trips. For example, consider an instance where Carnival
accommodates one thousand passengers on a four day cruise and one thousand passengers on a seven
day cruise. Theoretically total costs would be the same when using number of passengers to explain
total costs because each cruise accommodates the same number of passengers. On the other hand,
when one considers the length of a cruise, total costs should be higher for longer cruises. Per the
example above, a seven day cruise will have higher costs than a four day cruise because of the
additional resources needed to accommodate passengers for a longer period of time. 2. In order to
determine whether two independent variables better explain cost than a single regression (See #1), the
group ran a two separate multiple regression. The first multiple regression was run with the number of
passenger cruise days

Compare Mississippi Burning And American History X
Mississippi Burning and American History X explore the idea of racism in both films through the use
of cinematic techniques. Both films were set in different times and places however still enhance the
idea that a particular race is superior in comparison to another. These films highlight how racism has
existed through the progression of human history in different settings; Mississippi Burning set in
Mississippi whereas American History in Los Angeles. Mississippi Burning (1988), directed by Alan
Parker is a fictional film which explores racism influenced by the murders of the three civil rights
workers committed by the Ku Klux Klan (KKK). American History X (1998) directed by Tony Kaye
highlights the societal racial issues during the late 90s and shows the influence of racial hate within a
young group of youth and the effect of white supremacy gangs within a certain area of location.
Although both films portray the underlying message of a hatred and violent nature towards the blacks,
the alteration of the characters attitude and perceptions towards a particular race are changed. Both
films explore the theme of racial segregation, actions fueled by racial discrimination and abuse of
power. This is highlighted through the techniques of colour and flashback, characterisation and camera

The Tories Research Paper
The Tories were compiled disgruntled young Irishmen whose ancient hatred for the English coupled
with the spectacle of defeat, despair and degradation was sufficient reason to continue resistance .
They were led by dispossessed noblemen and Irish officers. They mostly attacked livestock but were
not against killing an Englishman once in a while. The English s punishment for Tories was strict and
after a band of Tories killed two Protestants in Lackagh, 4 Irishmen were hanged for not preventing
the murder and others, including 2 priests and an 80 year old woman were sent to Barbados. Since the
Irish usually just took livestock though, the English would just tax the town closest to where the
livestock was taken. Frequently, the town could not pay this and this would cause the government to
tax the surrounding areas. This in turn would cause many more men to become Tories due the
economic strife being inflicted on them by the English. It got so bad in some areas that Catholic

Difference Between Hiring A Professional
Graphic Design
Many assume that the only difference between hiring a professional to handle graphic design and
doing the work on their own is the price. Nothing is further from the truth, as the average person doesn
t have the skills needed to create a professional image, one that truly reflects the business and its
values in a positive light. A professional design goes above and beyond attracting the attention of the
viewer. It provides a call to action, encouraging the viewer to purchase the product or service, yet
many don t recognize this. They assume a logo or another design is nothing more than a symbol of the
company, but it is much more, and our designers understand this.
With the help of professional graphic design, companies find it easier to share their message with the
customer. Individuals continue to be bombarded by advertising messages everywhere they look, and a
professional design helps to attract attention in a crowded field while also providing the customer with
information about the company. Although these may not seem of importance to the average person,
technical aspects such as bleeding and cropping do play a role in the customer s perception of the
brand. They don t realize this, but it is truly the case. Our team of graphic designers is familiar with
these and other techniques and use them where appropriate to convey the desired message.
Most importantly, graphic design involves more than creating a logo. Layout and production design

The History of Judaism Essay
History of Judaism
a. Israel
Basic Judaism is Israel s existence and calls as well as membership by birth , although the door is
open also for proselytes . There is no evidence that Judaism understands the OT teachings about the
existence of the rest . Motto that All Israel will inherit the world who will come is generally accepted .
Only apostasy ( a term which means not steady ) is usually considered to be the only barrier to enjoy it

In this environment everyone is a brother Israelite . Despite differences in social levels that are

The period between early 1940s to mid-1960s or so,...
The period between early 1940s to mid 1960s or so, alternatively, the period between when the
musical Oklahoma! (1943) was produced till the time when Hair (1968) was produced, is usually
referred to as the Golden Age of the American musical (Kantor, 2010). It is during this period, that
most of the noted titles such as Carousel , South Pacific etc. were produced. 1940s and early 1950s
were dominated thoroughly by MGM musicals, while the late 1950s and 1960s belonged to
Broadway. Initially, the musicals of this era had simple plots, unchallenging themes, with romantic or
comedic characters and lots of singing and dancing. But towards the end of it, the plots were
sophisticated, serious with singing, dancing as well as dialogue. In this ... Show more content on

It s fair to say that none of these would have existed had West Side Story not first taught us that
musicals could be made from painful stories that force us to confront our most dangerous internalized
philosophies. Musicals could reflect the uglier, coarser sides of human nature and warn us of the
consequences of not just personal immorality but also larger social issues. This musical included
several dance numbers, which were innovatively choreographed and set and also had strong links
between themselves. I felt West Side Story is about many such as rage and power, belonging and
frustration; but most of all it s about the scourge of prejudice, and its implications for love. West Side
Story s dark theme, sophisticated music, electrifying integrated dance, and no holds barred reflection
of social problems marked a turning point in American theater. The musical style combines symphonic
and jazz styles and Bernstein has focussed on dissonant, chromatic and syncopated elements to create
musical tension suitable for the story and its setting. The musical ran for 732 performances before
going on tour. The production received a Tony Award nomination for Best Musical in 1957, but the
award went to Meredith Willson s The Music Man. The play spawned an innovative 1961 musical
film of the same name, directed by Robert Wise and Robbins. The film won ten

Commen Elemements of Fiction
Anyone that is well situated into the world of literature knows of the literacy genius Edgar Allen Poe.
Most of Poe s works do not have the slightest bit of joy or happiness in them. His literature mainly
consists of a dark and gothic mood; mostly due to the fact that his actual life was worse than his
stories. For those who have read a few of his stories or poems you might notice a similarity in plot. In
his works The Cask of Amontillado, The Black Cat, and The Tell Tale Heart, there is clear similarity
of plot between the three stories.
In The Cask of Amontillado, the reader is introduced to two characters, Montresor and Fortunato.
They meet a carnival that is occurring in what appears Italy. Montresor informs Fortunato ... Show

Instead the swing of the axe landed on his wife s hand. This made the husband even more angered,
and he planted the axe into his wife s skull to dismiss the interference. He disposed of his wife s body
by burying her into the cellar walls. The police arrived after four days investigating the household top
to bottom. When the arrived at the cellar the husband felt did not feel the slightest bit anxiety. Just as
the police were about to finish their investigation a screw came from the cellar walls. The police
pulled the flimsy wall down to find the corpse of the husband s wife before them. In the story Tell Tale
Heart, the reader will be shown an unnamed narrator who is saying that he is only nervous not mad.
He says he is going to tell us a story to assure to the reader that he is not mad. He talks about an idea
that appeared in his head, about an old man he takes care of, that has haunted him day and night.
There was not a desideratum or reason for it, but he says it might have been his eye that resembled
those of a vulture. The man came up with the plan to take the old mans life over his eye. He stated I
was never kinder to the old man than during the whole week before I killed him. And every night
about midnight I turned the latch of his door and opened it oh, so gently! And then, when I had made
an opening sufficient for my head, I put in a dark lantern all closed, closed so that no light shone out,
and then I thrust

A Conspiracy in Politics
Politics is much more than agendas these days. It is a game involving intricate strategies and
manoeuvres to outsmart the others. Big games are played in today s political arena and these big
games are limited to the big player only. No matter how loyally or how long a person serves, the game
plan is limited only to the highest tier of the parties or maybe even less. The best and the trickiest of
games are played with a lot of confidentiality to ensure its success.
Politics, mind you, is not a child s play. Politicians are extremely smart people. By using the word
smart, I don t put them into the category of Einstiens or Newtons. What I am trying to convey is that
they are very observant and capable of noticing the smallest of opportunities. They plan with vision
and over time it pays off.
In the light of the present situation, I may sound a complete fool for what I have just said. Had
politicians been so smart and so thoughtful in their strategies then why can t the Indian National
Congress see the very evident inefficiency of Mr. Rahul Gandhi? He has become a subject of
numerous jokes on the social media and his incompetency has come to the fore over the years. It is
very clear that Rahul has failed miserably to connect to the people. On the other hand, there is Modi, a
magnetic personality with great oration skills. More importantly he has Gujarat to show for his
achievements. Is the Congress so naive to neglect it and go about doing nothing at all?
It must have

The Human Heart
The human heart is slightly bigger than the size of ones fist. It is situated at a very safe place which is
between the cage bones, i.e., in the center of the chest. Usually it is slightly on the left side of the chest
but in rare cases, it can be found on the right side. Heart is responsible for the blood flow to every
single part of the body by constant contraction and relaxation of cardiac muscles. This is the reason
why we hear rhythmic beats all the time. Heart pumps the pure blood to the different parts of the body
and then takes the deoxygenated blood from all the parts to the lungs for oxygenation. Normally in a
minute the heart beats 72 times. Well, let s check out heart diagram for kids as well as for adults which

This maintains a proper one directional blood flow through out the process. Bicuspid valve is present
between the left atrium and left ventricle whereas tricuspid valve is present between the right atrium
and right ventricle. Pulmonary valve behaves as a gate which stops the back flow of blood from right
ventricle to the pulmonary artery which takes the deoxygenated blood to the lungs for purification.
Lastly the aortic valve, this valve plays an important role in stopping the back flow of the blood from
left ventricle to the aorta. Once the blood is transferred to the aorta it supplies the oxygenated blood to
different parts of the body.
Blood Vessels
Blood vessels are the blood carriers in a human body. These play a very vital role in the supply of
blood to various parts of the body. Blood vessels can be of two types, veins and arteries. All the veins
(except pulmonary vein) are involved in carrying the deoxygenated blood from various parts of the
body to the heart whereas all the arteries (except pulmonary artery) are involved in supplying
oxygenated blood from the heart to different parts of the body.
Functioning of the Heart
After getting familiar with the part let s check out the functions of the heart. Well, as we all know we
need oxygen to survive, but have you ever thought how this oxygen is supplied to different parts of the
body? This work is done with the help of heart. Heart plays a very important role in the supply of

Hospital Sketches Louisa May Alcott Summary
In the nonfictitious narrative Hospital Sketches, written by Louisa May Alcott in 1863, she develops a
strong argument concerning human compassion in a time of war. She was able to do this with strong
uses of dialogue, pathos, and figurative language. The dialogue present in the narrative provides
feelings of sorrow for the patients like John. When John asks whether or not the doctors think the
battle is going to be his last, Alcott responds with I m afraid they do, providing a mood of
hopelessness for John s future, and pity for him (Alcott para. 7 8). Alcott also has feelings of survivor
guilt, in which she feels bad about living when people like John are dying for their country. She feels
empathy, and wants to be able to help John bear it so he can live (Alcott para. 5). She has compassion
for him, and she will be sorrowful to see him go. Pathos, the appeal to emotions, is shown with the
melancholy actions shown by the characters. After Alcott is told about the hopelessness of the
scenario, she could have sat down on the spot and cried heartily, telling us directly of the deep
depression that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dr. P, one of the doctors in charge of taking care of the wounded soldiers, diagnosed that the injury
pierced the left lung and broke a rib, resulting in every breath taken feeling like a stab, and that John
must lie on his wounded back or suffocate (Alcott para. 1). The imagery painted, as well as the simile,
makes us see that the only path is death and there is no way to block it. Furthermore, as John
continues to lie there, a gray veil, a metaphor for death, was falling over his face that no human hand
could move, exemplifying the mood of uselessness that was set (Alcott para. 10). It is through these
tactics, in which we can see clearly, the compassion that people had for John in his last hours, and the
compassion that people have for one another in a time of

When the Supreme Court is deciding whether to hear a case or not, there are many things that it takes
into account. First off, if the Case will resolve a conflict of law, then the case will be heard. A conflict
of law is basically when the state supreme courts and federal circuits reach different conclusions about
an issue of federal or constitutional law, and when that happens the supreme court can resolve the
conflict of law by deciding the law. Second, The Supreme Court will consider hearing a case that they
deem important or that they say has high significance. Some of these important cases consist of U.S. v
Nixon, which was about the Watergate tapes, Bush v. Gore, which was about the insanely close
election in 2000 and also Roe. v. Wade, which concerned

Blurring The Boundary
Mutants
The world we live in is advancing more and more every day. We are beginning to exceed boundaries
and reach new limits. Science and Technology has come a long way since Copernicus said that the sun
was the center of the universe. Science fiction is slowly coming to life. We are building robots that are
extremely similar to humans, modifying genes, and creating clones. Authors wrote about these
abstract ideas not too long ago, but at the time they seemed far fetched. Scientific and technological
advancement may be for good or for evil. The good side is the advancements in medicine that could
limit the risk of a particular disease or even cure one. The potentially bad side is the steps we may take
to get there without knowing the long term effect. In Michael Bess s article Blurring the Boundary
Between Person and Product, he discusses the advancement of genetic ... Show more content on

He looks at the ins and outs of modifying a person s genes and what the selection process will be like
for parents. Moral, ethical, and economic boundaries of genetic modification are discussed as well. In
Tenzin Gyatso s article ethics and the New Genetics, he describes how scientists are beginning to
perform unimaginable tasks. Such as, cloning and genetic modification to build a baby. This building
of babies may lead to the development of a super race. A super race, consists of people who are
genetically modified in the developmental stages of birth, so that they are born with characteristics
and advantages chosen by the parents. For example, parents will choose eye color, hair color, height,
weight, intelligence level, athletic ability, and anything else they want for their child. A super race,
will have everything thing that we wish we had. Although the idea of a super race, sounds splendid, it
is not all sunshine and rainbows. Developing a super race, will Further separate social classes, start a

Hamlet s Weaknesses
Hamlet is one of the most complex characters in literature. He changes a lot throughout the story. His
mental state is what really leads to his death and the death of the King, Queen, and Laertes.
Hamlet has a couple weaknesses throughout the story. His first weakness or flaw would be in the very
beginning where he seems crazy in love with Ophelia. Polonius asks Ophelia, talking about Hamlet Is
he crazy with love for you? Ophelia replys I m not sure, but I m afraid he might be (Hamlet, 83).
Polonius is Ophelia s father and he says he has seen many girls fall for Hamlet s tricks and they all end
up with a broken heart. He was warning his daughter to stay away from Hamlet and to send all of
letters back and not give him the time of day. This is when Hamlet started acting crazy towards
Ophelia and his main weakness in this part was love. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One good example of this weakness would be in act 3 scene 2 when Hamlet has characters perform
the play called Mousetrap . The play was altered by Hamlet to reenact how Claudius murdered Hamlet
s father. Lucianus pours the poison into the sleeping king s ear (Hamlet, 173) . At this point Claudius
realizes that the whole play was intended to reenact what had happened in real life and he begins to
get very upset and stops the play. The reason this shows the weakness of Hamlet is because Claudius
has Hamlet arranged to be killed as soon as he is sailed off to another area. Claudius could not put the
heavy law down on Hamlet because everyone in Denmark loved him so much. Hamlet should have
thought this whole thing through a little more and realized that by doing this play, Claudius would get
upset and have to do something to stop everyone from finding out the truth. If Hamlet spent more time
thinking about the outcome he probably would have chosen a different way of approaching this

Compare And Contrast To A Locomotive In Winter To begin with, To a Locomotive in Winter , written by Walt Whitman and Emily Dickinson s I like to see it lap the Miles are fairly different poems. In To a Locomotive in Winter , the author writes about a locomotive and represents it in rather a positive way, using strong and vivid figurative language. While reading the poem, it is apparent that, in general, the speaker while talking about a locomotive implies American technological progress and, obviously, supports it. That is shown through the establishment of a link between science and poetry. Even though I like to see it lap the Miles written by Emily Dickinson is also about a locomotive and within the poem, poetry and science are connected, still, the author s approach differs from Whitman s manner. Evidently, it is possible to notice some negative implications. Specifically, the speaker may be afraid of the ongoing technological progress in America and does not support its connotations. In particular, while Whitman observes a train with admiration and respect to its strength and force, it is possible to notice that Dickinson views a locomotive as a ravenously hungry creature. The train perpetually consumes during the traveling. Furthermore, it does not require human help to feed itself and that becomes obvious in the third line, And stop to feed itself at tanks (Dickinson). Comparing John Stuart Mill s The Subjection of Women and Florence Nightingale s Cassandra For thousands of years, women have struggled under the domination of men. In a great many societies around the world, men hold the power and women have to fight for their roles as equals in these patriarchal societies. Florence Nightingale wrote about such a society in her piece, Cassandra, and John Stuart Mill wrote further on the subject in his essay The Subjection of Women. These two pieces explore the same basic idea, but there are differences as well. While they both recognize its presence, Mill blames the subjection of women on custom, and Nightingale blames it on society. These appear to be different arguments, but they may be more ... The subjection of women to men being a universal custom, any departure from it quite naturally appears unnatural (Mill 1157). As he continues, he reveals his thoughts on the matter to the reader: this relic of the past is discordant with the future, and must necessarily disappear (Mill 1159). Mill explores many aspects of the issue. He attempts to uncover the differences between the sexes to provide maybe another solution to the problem, but to no avail, nothing final can be known (Mill 1162); nothing is as strongly stated as when he places the blame on custom. Later in his essay, while exploring the systems of past societies, he comes to the same conclusion as earlier. Only this time, he states that there has been some improvement in the system as time went by; however, equality has not yet been reached. He believes that the small increase in power over time is enough to suggest that equality is the solution: Through all...human history, the condition of women has been approaching nearer to equality with men. This does not itself prove that the assimilation must go on to complete equality; but it assuredly affords some presumption that such is the case (Mill 1160). Each of the experiments demonstrated the importance of the first law of thermodynamic and how its present on our daily lives. Therefore, reinforcing the importance of thermodynamics concepts and their role in our society. Objectives: Experiment A: Terrestrial Gravitational Acceleration The main objective of experiment A, was to measure the gravitational acceleration of earth upon between two distinct masses; and to measure and record time and mass in order to calculate an experimental value for gravity. Experiment B: First Law of Thermodynamics The main objective was to demonstrate the first law of thermodynamics which states that energy cannot be destroyed or created, therefore, it has to be conserved in one form or another during a thermodynamic process. For this reason, two traveling cars were used along a low slope slide to harness gravitational potential energy between two points and see it transformed into kinetic energy. Experiment C: Centripetal Acceleration vs. First Law of Thermodynamics The main objective was to find the minimum height required for the travelling car to complete the loop track successfully by thermodynamics forces of conservation of energy and centripetal acceleration. • 5. Testing Conditioning Methods Through Sniffy Simulation Testing Conditioning Methods through Sniffy Simulation Amir Ayoub Fordham University Abstract This lab tests different forms of conditioning on a virtual rat named Sniffy. In this experiment we began with the virtual rat completely unconditioned and then worked towards getting Sniffy to pull the lever and get food on his own. We went through many steps to complete this task starting with getting Sniffy to notice the food chamber, the lever, and finally having Sniffy realize he can obtain food whenever he wanted by pressing the lever. Then, pushing it further, we made him press the level two, three, four and then five times to receive one pellet. All of these steps tested the idea that receiving the food as a reward will allow Sniffy to realize the benefits of learning and conditioning himself to do things that have a positive outcome more. Testing Conditioning Methods through Sniffy Simulation This lab is focused on the ideas of classical and operant conditioning. Classical conditioning is when a neutral stimulus is paired with an unconditioned stimulus to elicit an unconditioned response. In time this turns the neutral stimulus into a conditioned stimulus that causes a conditioned response. Operant conditioning is a method of learning that occurs through reinforcements and punishments for behavior and encourages associating desirable or undesirable outcomes with certain behaviors. Being stuck in a repetitive life causes people to be disillusioned to true meanings of life and feelings of others, while also becoming emotionally distant themselves. Having a traditional lifestyle consisting of the same routines separates those who are living a life of passion with those who are unable to see their uninteresting existence. In the novella The Dead by James Joyce, he uses symbolism and contrast to portray Gabriel Conroy as a dynamic character who turns his ignorant, self satisfied and repetitive life into a journey of self discovery. who leads an unfulfilled, apathetic, and ignorant life through the use of symbolism and contrast Throughout the short story, Joyce uses the literary device symbolism to show how Gabriel Conroy comes to the realization of his unsatisfying life and that he thinks more about his unimportant actions, desires, and tedious routines than being passionate and having an impactful life. One example of a symbol the author uses is snow, which has multiple representations for Gabriel. The southern planters in the past made effort to grow cotton, but never succeeded because cotton was labor intensive, so they dropped the idea and went to plant rice and tobacco, because during that period they tried growing cotton, it normally takes a lot of manpower and slaves use a whole day to separate maybe a pound of cotton seeds from fibers. They basically dropped every other crop in place of the newly profitable cotton. Also With the invention of the cotton gins, factories in the North were producing cotton cloth and cotton became the major crop in the south. Also the planters wanted increases in slave labor to plant enough cotton to take advantage of their new production capacity and this made them purchase thousands of slaves from the West Indies and Africa before slave trading was banned. Motherhood is having a child of your on and raising tht child to become the best they can be. Being there to support and love them when ever they need you to. J.M. Barrie s Peter Pan is a children s story about a boy who never wants to grow up and become an adult. Although the concept of having a mother is symbolized throughout Peter Pan, it is motherhood itself that prevents Peter Pan and others from maturing into responsible adulthood. Peter Pan wants a mother, but at the same time Peter does not trust mothers because he believes that his birth mother betrayed him. Peter also believes that mothers turn children into adults. The novel s opening scene is in the nursery of the Darling house, and it also ends in the nursery. The nursery is very important for the Darling family. It is where John, Wendy and Michael sleep, and where they are taken care of by Mr. Darling and Mrs. Darling and also by their dog called Nana. Nana is portrayed as a maid in the novel because the Darlings could not afford to pay a human to work for them. The fact that J.M. Barrie decides on the nursery for being the location for both the beginning and the end of the novel is symbolic of the importance of family life and maternal care in the novel Peter Pan. • 18. The Cost Of Passenger Cruise 1. After running two different regression models using passenger cruise days and number of passengers to predict which variable better estimates total cost, the data (including a slightly higher adjusted r squared) suggests the number of passenger cruise days acts as a better predictor of total costs. The number of passenger cruise days is more economically plausible because it is more logical to allocate the costs based on the number of passenger cruise days rather than the number of passengers. More specifically, number of passengers does not fully explain the amount of total costs because of the varying duration of trips. For example, consider an instance where Carnival accommodates one thousand passengers on a four day cruise and one thousand passengers on a seven day cruise. Theoretically total costs would be the same when using number of passengers to explain total costs because each cruise accommodates the same number of passengers. On the other hand, when one considers the length of a cruise, total costs should be higher for longer cruises. Per the example above, a seven day cruise will have higher costs than a four day cruise because of the additional resources needed to accommodate passengers for a longer period of time. 2. In order to determine whether two independent variables better explain cost than a single regression (See #1), the group ran a two separate multiple regression. • 21. Difference Between Hiring A Professional Graphic Design Many assume that the only difference between hiring a professional to handle graphic design and doing the work on their own is the price. Nothing is further from the truth, as the average person doesn t have the skills needed to create a professional image, one that truly reflects the business and its values in a positive light. A professional design goes above and beyond attracting the attention of the viewer. It provides a call to action, encouraging the viewer to purchase the product or service, yet many don t recognize this. They assume a logo or another design is nothing more than a symbol of the company, but it is much more, and our designers understand this. With the help of professional graphic design, companies find it easier to share their message with the customer. Individuals continue to be bombarded by advertising messages everywhere they look, and a professional design helps to attract attention in a crowded field while also providing the customer with information about the company. (1943) was produced till the time when Hair (1968) was produced, is usually referred to as the Golden Age of the American musical (Kantor, 2010). It is during this period, that most of the noted titles such as Carousel , South Pacific etc. were produced. 1940s and early 1950s were dominated thoroughly by MGM musicals, while the late 1950s and 1960s belonged to Broadway. Initially, the musicals of this era had simple plots, unchallenging themes, with romantic or comedic characters and lots of singing and dancing. But towards the end of it, the plots were sophisticated, serious with singing, dancing as well as dialogue. In this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It s fair to say that none of these would have existed had West Side Story not first taught us that musicals could be made from painful stories that force us to confront our most dangerous internalized philosophies. Musicals could reflect the uglier, coarser sides of human nature and warn us of the consequences of not just personal immorality but also larger social issues. This musical included several dance numbers, which were innovatively choreographed and set and also had strong links between themselves. I felt West Side Story is about many such as rage and power, belonging and frustration; but most of all it s about the scourge of prejudice, and its implications for love. West Side Story s dark theme, sophisticated music, electrifying integrated dance, and no holds barred reflection of social problems marked a turning point in American theater. The musical style combines symphonic and jazz styles and Bernstein has focussed on dissonant, chromatic and syncopated elements to create musical tension suitable for the story and its setting. The musical ran for 732 performances before going on tour. The production received a Tony Award nomination for Best Musical in 1957, but the award went to Meredith Willson s The Music Man. The play spawned an innovative 1961 musical film of the same name, directed by Robert Wise and Robbins. The film won ten ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. Commen Elemements of Fiction Anyone that is well situated into the world of literature knows of the literacy genius Edgar Allen Poe. Most of Poe s works do not have the slightest bit of joy or happiness in them. His literature mainly consists of a dark and gothic mood; mostly due to the fact that his actual life was worse than his stories. For those who have read a few of his stories or poems you might notice a similarity in plot. In his works The Cask of Amontillado, The Black Cat, and The Tell Tale Heart, there is clear similarity of plot between the three stories. In The Cask of Amontillado, the reader is introduced to two characters, Montresor and Fortunato. They meet a carnival that is occurring in what appears Italy. Montresor informs Fortunato ... He stated I was never kinder to the old man than during the whole week before I killed him. And every night about midnight I turned the latch of his door and opened it oh, so gently! • 26. A Conspiracy in Politics Politics is much more than agendas these days. It is a game involving intricate strategies and manoeuvres to outsmart the others. Big games are played in today s political arena and these big games are limited to the big player only. No matter how loyally or how long a person serves, the game plan is limited only to the highest tier of the parties or maybe even less. The best and the trickiest of games are played with a lot of confidentiality to ensure its success. Politics, mind you, is not a child s play. Politicians are extremely smart people. By using the word smart, I don t put them into the category of Einstiens or Newtons. What I am trying to convey is that they are very observant and capable of noticing the smallest of opportunities. They plan with vision and over time it pays off. In the light of the present situation, I may sound a complete fool for what I have just said. Had politicians been so smart and so thoughtful in their strategies then why can t the Indian National Congress see the very evident inefficiency of Mr. Rahul Gandhi? He has become a subject of numerous jokes on the social media and his incompetency has come to the fore over the years. It is very clear that Rahul has failed miserably to connect to the people. On the other hand, there is Modi, a magnetic personality with great oration skills. More importantly he has Gujarat to show for his achievements. Lastly the aortic valve, this valve plays an important role in stopping the back flow of the blood from left ventricle to the aorta. • 28. Hospital Sketches Louisa May Alcott Summary In the nonfictitious narrative Hospital Sketches, written by Louisa May Alcott in 1863, she develops a strong argument concerning human compassion in a time of war. She was able to do this with strong uses of dialogue, pathos, and figurative language. The dialogue present in the narrative provides feelings of sorrow for the patients like John. When John asks whether or not the doctors think the battle is going to be his last, Alcott responds with I m afraid they do, providing a mood of hopelessness for John s future, and pity for him (Alcott para. 7 8). Alcott also has feelings of survivor guilt, in which she feels bad about living when people like John are dying for their country. She feels empathy, and wants to be able to help John bear it so he can live (Alcott para. 5). She has compassion for him, and she will be sorrowful to see him go. Pathos, the appeal to emotions, is shown with the melancholy actions shown by the characters. After Alcott is told about the hopelessness of the scenario, she could have sat down on the spot and cried heartily, telling us directly of the deep depression that ... The imagery painted, as well as the simile, makes us see that the only path is death and there is no way to block it. Furthermore, as John continues to lie there, a gray veil, a metaphor for death, was falling over his face that no human hand could move, exemplifying the mood of uselessness that was set (Alcott para. 10). His mental state is what really leads to his death and the death of the King, Queen, and Laertes. Hamlet has a couple weaknesses throughout the story. His first weakness or flaw would be in the very beginning where he seems crazy in love with Ophelia. Polonius asks Ophelia, talking about Hamlet Is he crazy with love for you? Ophelia replys I m not sure, but I m afraid he might be (Hamlet, 83). Polonius is Ophelia s father and he says he has seen many girls fall for Hamlet s tricks and they all end up with a broken heart. He was warning his daughter to stay away from Hamlet and to send all of letters back and not give him the time of day. This is when Hamlet started acting crazy towards Ophelia and his main weakness in this part was love. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One good example of this weakness would be in act 3 scene 2 when Hamlet has characters perform the play called Mousetrap . The play was altered by Hamlet to reenact how Claudius murdered Hamlet s father. Lucianus pours the poison into the sleeping king s ear (Hamlet, 173) . At this point Claudius realizes that the whole play was intended to reenact what had happened in real life and he begins to get very upset and stops the play. The reason this shows the weakness of Hamlet is because Claudius has Hamlet arranged to be killed as soon as he is sailed off to another area. Claudius could not put the heavy law down on Hamlet because everyone in Denmark loved him so much. Hamlet should have thought this whole thing through a little more and realized that by doing this play, Claudius would get upset and have to do something to stop everyone from finding out the truth.
