The Global Location Allocation Problem
Example 1. The first type of problem discussed was the global location allocation problem. These
problems are often seen in large business and can be solved by combining AHP and GP. However, in
this smaller example the decision maker is choosing where to send his sales associates. According to
the AHP, the goal must first be set, then the criteria, then the alternative locations, as seen in Figure 2.
Figure 2. Illustrates the AHP of example 1. After the initial hierarchy was created, as described earlier,
to make the problem global and to add the goal programming, weights have to be added to the
locations and the criteria as seen in Figure 3. Figure 3. Illustrates the initial AHP combined with GP
and created into a global LAP. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next type of LAP is capacitated problems. Capacitated problems can be solved with stochastic
models such as DCP, CCP, and the Hybrid Intelligence Algorithm. This example is one generated by
[3] which seeks to maximize the probability that the transportation cost doesn t exceed $2,300. In
order to do this, the DCP model in Equation 14 was used. Equation 14 Where Pr is the probability and
C(x,y|ω) is the transportation cost. The hybrid intelligence algorithm runs the problem 10,000 times
with different environmental criteria. This was done 10 times and the percent error was calculated.
These results are shown in Table 3 below. Table 3. Shows the Comparison of the Different Solutions
of the Capacitated LAP. Since the percent error does not go above 2.3% and the probability of the
transportation cost not exceeding the goal is always above 90%, we can say that it is a viable option to
choose the current limits on the constraints (Pop_size, P_c,P_m,α). Also this indicates that the hybrid
algorithm is an effective model to solve these capacitated LAPs. Example 3. The last type of LAP
examined is large LAP s. One common way to solve large problems is by two opt switching, or H4 as
discussed in [2]. H4 uses two opt switching to simultaneously switch the allocation of two locations to
make the path more efficient. A simple example can be seen in GPS routes that UPS could use to
deliver and pick up

Puerto Rican Beauty Standards Essay
As of recently, the media has been flooded with positive interpretations of beauty standards all over
the world. According to various sources, beauty ideals, in women especially, are socially constructed
in order to judge a person s value based on physical attractiveness; therefore, it is highly encouraged
that people pay attention to their looks and take care of themselves, in order for others to create a
positive first impression of one s character. It is no secret that beauty standards vary from one culture
to the next and it is difficult to establish a universal principle of what is considered beautiful. Many
countries ideals contrast one another and, as a result, allow for stereotypes to emerge. This is the case
between American ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is not uncommon that you ll hear Puerto Ricans refer to themselves as the mutts of the Spanish
community, this is because of the island s history. Soon after Christopher Columbus discovered the
island in 1493, it became known as the rich port for the Spanish or Puerto Rico, due to the fact that it
produced mass amounts of cattle, sugar cane, tobacco, and coffee, especially considering the island s
size. Such prosperity and wealth opened the door for the slave trade to enter the colony, and as a result
Puerto Rican bloodlines and cultures evolved not only from the Spanish, but also from Africans, and
indigenous Taíno and Carib people ( Puerto Rico History and Heritage ). In addition, over the
centuries many failed attempts where made by the French, Dutch, and English to conquer the island
which even further changed the bloodlines. Of course, as history has it, at the end of the Spanish
American war in 1898, the Treaty of Paris declared the the Spanish would surrender Puerto Rico to the
United States, therefore infiltrating American culture and beauty ideals.
One of the most charming statements ever made about Puerto Rican diversity goes as follows:
Their skins were like a rainbow of toasted wood...Some skins were very fair, as fair as his, but they
betrayed another something against the bone. Their

Comparing Reality And Identity In The Matrix And The Matrix
Throughout the history of humanity, human have shaped and formed different realities and identities.
Each reality and identity possess its unique purpose which has contributes to develop human history
around the world. The Greek philosopher, Plato, discusses that some identities are eternal forms .
However, the film, The Matrix , suggests that some realities are not eternal forms . If realities are
temporal, identities could also be temporal forms. According to The Matrix, the relationship between
human and machines shows that the reality could be a temporal form. Since the reality is temporary,
the human mainly serves as a power source for the machines when their bodies are connected with
wires and their bodies become codes in part of the matrix. If the human bodies are disconnected with
the wires and machines, their minds are pulled back to the reality in the present, and their identities
form new identities which are different from the matrix. Perhaps, their true identities finally return to
the bodies. In the matrix, human are under the slavery system created by the machines, and their
identities are trapped into false realities created by the matrix. If human bodies and minds are
disconnect, they could have a completely new reality with different identities beside the ones they
have in the matrix. Therefore, identities are just temporary and can be changed when human minds
and bodies recognize that they are in different realities created by numerous. However, Karl Marx, a
German author, states that [t]he history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles
(Marx, 62). He identifies history as class struggles which categorize the people from different classes
in eternal forms as Plato thinks about identities. In Marx s The Communist manifesto, he introduces
two classes, which are Proletariat and Bourgeois. The Proletariat works for Bourgeois, but the
Bourgeois owns the majority of the capital. In Bourgeois society, there is a gap between rich and poor,
and being poor becomes a consent struggle for the Proletariat. In this society, the Bourgeois has the
identity of being rich, and the Proletariat owns the identity of being poor. As long as the Bourgeois
exists, the

margaret sanger Essay
Nearly 70 years ago, one woman pioneered one of the most radical and transforming political
movements of the century. Through the life that she led and the lessons she taught us, many know her
as the one girl revolution . Though Margaret Sanger s revolution may be even more controversial now
than during her 50 year career of national and international battles, her opinions can teach us many
lessons. Due to her strong influence in history, our society has increased health awareness for women,
made sexual protection a choice for all people, and also introduced family modification as a choice for
mankind.
Having gone through the hardships that she did, Margaret Sanger developed her own theories and
beliefs about health in women. Through the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to the articles she composed, Margaret Sanger decided to make sexual protection an option
for all people. Previously, contraceptives and spermicides were only distributed to those who had
information on the matter and access to them (Margaret 1). Sanger was past 80 when she saw the first
marketing of a contraceptive pill, which she had helped develop, although legal change was slow. It
took until 1965, a year before her death, for the Supreme Court to approve the use of contraception,
but Sanger had accomplished a goal (Margaret 1). Now, contraceptives were available to all women,
in all walks of life, regardless of their financial situations. In her mind, poor mental development was
largely the result of poverty, overpopulation and the lack of attention to children. This was definitely
one of the reasons why Sanger desired to make protection available to lower class citizens, along with
the wealthy.
Although she had met her goal of legalizing birth control, Margaret Sanger still desired to assist
women who were already pregnant but didn t wish to keep the child. After returning from a national
tour in 1916, Sanger opened the nation s first birth control clinic in Brownsville, Brooklyn (Katz 1).
This, however, was a minor advancement considering that the clinic was raided in its first nine days of
operation and she was taken to prison. The

Essay on Natural Gas Fracking Risks
Natural gas is said to be one of the most popular forms of energy today. In the past, often left
undeveloped and wasted, it was once considered unusable and worthless , compared to oil. In order to
try to break our country s dependence on foreign oil supplies, we have begun to dip into our own
natural gas supply. Natural gas is found underground, and is produced when trapped gas is released
above ground. Hydraulic fracturing or fracking is a process that extracts natural gas from the ground.
As harmless as the billion dollar producing oil companies would want us to believe, environmental
groups, scientists, and average citizens have raised concerns about the negative impact of hydraulic
fracking on the environment and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As more and more natural gas locations are sprouting up so close to home, it makes sense to explore
the risks proven to be associated with fracking. Groundwater polluting of communities near natural
gas drilling sites, has been linked to fracking. At least 15 water wells in Rosebud, Alberta, have gone
bad since EnCana Corporation fracked into their aquifer in search of shale gas in 2004 (Nelson 25).
By fracking into the aquifer, the chemicals used in the process undoubtedly contaminated the drinking
water of the area. Nelson also reports of Rosebud resident, Jessica Ernst and her family s experience
with fracking. Ms. Ernst stated that Encana gas told her family that they would never fracture near her
family s aquifer. By 2005, Ms. Ernst says that her water started going bad, she was receiving horrible
burns and rashes from showering, and her dogs refused to drink the water so that is when she began to
pay attention (Nelson 25). It is a horrible thought that a person could get burnt taking a shower in their
own home or not be able to provide their pets safe water to drink. In 2006, Ernst decided to go public,
showing reporters how she could set fire to her tap water, and speaking out about the industry (Nelson
25). One gas company recently bought out the town of Dimock, Pennsylvania, for $4.1 million
because fracking made the water completely undrinkable (Nelson 26). It makes one wonder how large

Forgetfulness Billy Collins
Poem Essay: Forgetfulness by Billy Collins A feeling that disturbs people most of the time is the
feeling of forgetfulness. This is because people are struggling to remember something they cannot
remember, therefore it puts a person in distress. In Forgetfulness , Billy Collins uses imagery to warn
the reader of the dangers and risks he might take if he does not pay attention to everything that
happens in his life. In his poem, Collins uses imagery to remind the reader of what it feels like when
someone is struggling to remember [something] and how a person cannot recall the specific memory
that was lost because it is not poised on the tip of [his] tongue . It happens to be a well known fact
when people forget anything, especially at the wrong time, it turns people from a state of calmness to a
state of panic. This is because he is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Consider this in relation to growing up. Part of growing up is learning how to handle certain
situations, specifically emergency situations. However, many people assume that those types of
situations rarely happen, especially to themselves. For instance, a five year old boy does not want to
learn how to swim because he says he will stay on dry land his entire life. As the years go by, he
forgets about not wanting to swim. One day he is drafted into the navy, his ship is attacked and sinks,
and the next thing he knows, he drown because of the fact that he refused to learn how to swim. This
example shows he has ended up like those who have forgotten how to swim , in other words he died
like those who died from drowning. The man who drowned would not have suffered his fate if he had
paid attention to the swimming lessons his parents made him take. By listening to the poet s warning
of being in distress, the reader has the ability to prevent by remembering past lessons like this from

The Runaway Twin
The Runaway Twin by Peg Kehret is a fascinating book. The way the author describes the challenges
Sunny went through are just outstanding. I think the theme of this book is to never give up no matter
how difficult the challenges that are thrown at you are because in the end it will be worth it. I believe
this because when Sunny was caught in the middle of a tornado she stuck her ground and tried her best
to survive which she succeeded. Another example is, when Randy was caught under a few wooden
boards and a a cast iron sink she tried her best to set him free, giving herself blisters in the process.
She decided to run and try to find help for him she didn t just give up on him. Sunny Skyland is only 3

The Icarus Deception
Writing to me, is an art form, and I consider myself reasonably successful at it, with several thousand
items published around the world, both in print and on line. I decided that, in light of the demise of the
Squidoo website, which has been sold to Hubpages, I would review one of the books written by the
site founder, Seth Godin. He has for years been a leading light in the field of motivational education,
and you have to say that he has a kind of in your face style that demands your attention, which is
perhaps one of the reasons why his work, and this volume The Icarus Deception are so interesting. He
uses the title character whose determination to succeed led to his demise, as we all know in a
fascinating illustration of his belief that, where Icarus is concerned, first appearances are very
deceptive. The iconic fable tells that Icarus died because the wax in those melted when flying too
close to the sun, but Seth Godin maintains that this could be interpreted as the unlucky lad being
blinded by initial success, and failing to think things through properly. ... Show more content on

Sexism In Modern Society
Sexism is the failure to give equal weight to women s interests. It is the antithesis of feminism, a
moral, political, and social movement that seeks justice for women. Sexism is important because it
undermines the welfare of one half of the human population and is a major source of women s
oppression. The concept of women as inferior to men originates from ancient civilization. Since the
beginning of time, men are gifted the titled as strong, independent, and the bread winner for the entire
households. In a sense, men are superior as they hold all the power and ability to decide for their
household and nation. On the other hand, women are limited to only reside in the home as their duties
cleaning, cooking, and nursing belongs at home. This suppression and imbalance in power is still a
constant battle for women even after the Women s Rights Movement. Women fought for equality and
desired to have the freedom to express their minds and do activities outside the home like men. They
were eventually granted this freedom as time progressed, but gender roles are still present in modern
society. One particular stereotype portrayed by the media is women s inability to fight and protect
themselves. Female characters are often depicted as a damsels in distress, always in need of protection
or rescuing from a male character. Sadly enough, this perception is not always true. Women are not
weak, fragile, or incapable of protecting themselves. If anything, females have the capability to

The Cask Of Amontillado Word Choice
Edgar Allan Poe controlled his word choice in his story, The Cask Of Amontillado, by using words
that elevated the story and created a consistent mood throughout it. Poe also chose words to make a
somber or bleak outlook on life s hidden meanings. In the story he compared the catacombs to the
underground catacombs in Paris, due to the fact that they are lined to the brim with remains. He also
referred to the nitre in the crypt by saying, [O]bserve the white webwork which gleams from these
cavern walls. By comparing the nitre to that of a cobweb, furthers the point that this story has a dark
and moody tone. With the multiple words that he chose, it is seen that he has a more of an adult

The Human Factor of Global Warming
The Human Factor of Global Warming
The Human Factor of Global Warming
Global warming has been a growing concern for many over the last several decades. The effects of
global warming are evident and broad, with historical research dating the first global warming crisis
back 56 million years ago, better known as the Paleocene Eocene Thermal Maximum, or PETM
(Jardine, 2011). Research from the composition of sediments of fossils shells of marine organisms
conclude that carbon dioxide trapped within our atmosphere, increased global temperatures by more
than 5 degrees in just a few thousand years (Jardine, 2011). While global warming may not be in
question, many scientists have questioned the actual global warming effect theory due to ... Show

* While humans might not be solely to blame for global warming, we definitely have a major role.
Most are familiar with the burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil, and gas) as a major contributor to the
overall C02, although, just as equally important is that of deforestation. It was realized that
conversions of land use, primarily deforestation in the tropics, induce substantial terrestrial carbon
losses to the atmosphere, approximately 1.6 billion tons annually (Broadmeadow, Freer Smith, amp; J.
Lynch, 2007). While the cause of deforestation varies in different regions, the key contributors are
cutting down tree to open up more land for agriculture, urban sprawl (Turk amp; Bensel, 2011).
Forests work like filters to remove CO2 from the air and store it in the trees. When the trees are felled
or burned, huge amounts of CO2 are released into the atmosphere at a rapid pace. Urban Sprawl, a
result of deforestation releases significant amounts of green house gases such as CO2. Not only do
you have carbon dioxide being release from burning or cutting of forests, it is coupled by urban
sprawl. It just so happens one of the effects of urban sprawl is that Concrete production contributes 5
percent of annual anthropogenic global CO2 production, mainly because such vast

The Asian Education System versus the U.S. System
According to the World Rank Research Team, Japan is at the top of industrial advances that lead to a
very high amount of patents in the country (211). Japan is overtaking America in producing new
inventions and conducting scientific research (World Rank Research Team 211). Producing and
creating new inventions are the results of very productive, smart individuals, who had a great
education throughout their school careers. The Asian education system is known world wide for
having many advantages compared to others like the United States. But they also share their own
disadvantages. The United States education system is great to a certain extent, but not very efficient.

Japanese parents do not like seeing their children fall behind in school, and they go to an extreme level
of parenting which is a main key point of stress onto their children. Fallows uses a quote Pass with
four, fail with five referring to the amount of hours their children should sleep (204). Four hours of
sleep lets the student have more time to study than five hours of sleep. Extreme levels of parenting
lead to excessive pressure on their children, and many teachers and parents complain bitterly about
their education system, but little is done to change it (Fallows 204). Pressure on students may lead to
stress and depression that can change their lives forever. It can affect teenagers, and young adults by
encouraging them to do illegal things such as drinking, smoking, and doing drugs because pressure
would change their behaviors, attitudes, and even their morals.
Besides all the negativity, the United States and Asia have advantages that make them different from
one another. The United States education system may not be efficient enough, but there are also
advantages of having the system we have now. The main advantage America has in its education
system is freedom. Having the freedom in class to speak and express our opinion is very important in
the American culture. Such as, speaking out loud and being free to give an opinion in class. For
example, children in kindergarten can It promotes a free flow of ideas that

rapid and massive urbanisation, urban centres are also growing at a faster pace. Census 2011,

While the total population growth from 2001 to 2011 is 21%, urban population is 27% indicating that

Brandon Teena s Life and Court Case
Brandon Teena was a twenty one year old transgender man: a person who was born female but who
identifies as a male, who was brutally raped and murdered in 1993. After a few friends found out he
was transgender they raped him, beat him relentlessly and then later shot him at a friends home for
filling a police report. His story brought national attention to transgender people and is the inspiration
for two films and a book. His life was not in vain and he still lives on in his story and the hearts and

The hate crime of Brandon brought national attention to the ideal and possibility that someone would
want to change their gender. For many people, this was their first time even hearing about trans people
and the violence against trans people. After his death, his identity was challenged and argued even
though there are quotes from him saying he felt like a man trapped inside a woman s body. As Karina
Eileraas puts it Transgender violence targets both men and women, but Brandon Teena s case
highlights its particularly brutal effects on FTM transgender individuals. Boys Don t Cry provides a
clear political incentive to integrate feminist, gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender concerns in the

How The Cras Played A Significant Influence On Investor...
The Big Three global credit rating agencies have garnered immense scrutiny and criticism for the role
they played in the financial crisis and rightly so they were not only at the epicenter of this colossal
debacle but also exacerbated it. There is overwhelming evidence suggesting that the marketing and
sale of the MBSs at the core of this crisis would have been virtually impossible without the CRAs
signing off. The catastrophically inaccurate ratings they granted to securities they rated helped the
markets rally and their eventual massive downgrades left not just the US but also the world economy
in utter disarray. In spite of what arguments these agencies come up with to shy away for any
responsibility the fact remains that they chose big fees and bigger market shares over integrity in a
business that relies on integrity.
To understand how the CRAs played a major role in the crisis, we must first understand why they
became such a significant influence on investor perception. Investors both individual and institutional
look at the CRAs to provide them with risk analysis of a debt security, in form of a credit rating,
which is instrumental to these investors decision making process. The risk originates due to two main
factors: the ultimate mortgage holders never having met the debtors, and the sheer complexity of these
securities that comprise of parts of a plethora of loans. Most individual investors lack the resources to
gauge the creditworthiness of these loans. This

The ability to carry out the law fairly and reasonably in our country is an important area of our

into but is it not necessary to be able to access such an influential tool in a person s life when it comes

There have been dozens of crimes committed where technology, if it were accessible, would have

The Medical And Social Model Essay
This essay will examine the Medical and Social model and the factors that relate both models to
equality and diversity. Furthermore, the essay will provide evidence on how these models could have
an impact on a professional role. A model is a way of representing an idea which can be shown
through types of expression. These being graphically, verbally and symbolically. The two main models
associated with disability is the Medical and Social models. The authors Johnston Nahmad Williams
describe the models of disability as The way we view the issues of including individuals with special
needs or disabilities in schools and in society is underpinned by two main models, the medical model
and the social model , and their associated discourses. Johnston,J, Nahmad Williams, L. ( 2014).

ensuring individuals or groups of individuals are treated fairly and equally and no less favourably,
specific to their needs. (Edacuk, 2015). Equality is giving every member of society an equal right to
do as they would like within reason. In order to obtain equality every member of society should be
treated to their individual needs.
Diversity firstly shows that every individual person is different and secondly it shows that we should

Age Discrimination in Employment Essays
There has always been some ism that social movements have fought against throughout America s
history, and the issue of ageism was finally addressed in The Age Discrimination in Employment Act.
Ageism can be defined as prejudiced beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors pertaining to older adults. To
understand the ADEA fully, a brief history of age discrimination is useful to comprehend the
Structural Level of this bill. Discrimination based on age was not a large issue until the beginning of
the 20th century, mainly because it was a tacit form of discrimination. For the most part, people
worked until they were at an age where they did not feel useful, and for the rest of their lives their
families would take care of them. Industrialization ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The GDP was more than doubled between 1940 and 1960, and many brand new jobs were generated
in both industrial type jobs and the growing service sector. Due to all the development and
modernization, a much more efficient and educated workforce was required, which began to exclude
less educated older workers from employment. After World War II, the workplace was changed
forever because of the new technology which exterminated many jobs, and employees were expected
to know more than ever and work very quickly. When the baby boom generation was in its youth, the
workplace again was changed by the glut of young workers. Those who were old or even middle age
started to meet more pressure to leave the workforce entirely, and retire. It was also common for the
elderly to be forced out entirely. Older workers who were women or part of minority groups faced
particularly daunting odds because they had not one barrier but two in the way of being employed.
Technology again played a large role in keeping older workers out of the workplace because many of
the younger workers had taken computer classes and had experience with it. All of these factors led to
the reaction of the public and government, which took action to even the playing field for all
Americans.
The types of discrimination that went on before the ADEA resulted in many law suits against
corporations. Discrimination is judged by either direct or indirect Evidence under the law. However,

Radio History
Joe Clark January 21, 2002 Mrs. Perkins AP U.S. History The radio has evolved over time. The radio
we listen to today has a different format, purpose, viewer reach, and clarity than it did before the
1950s. The radio has survived the threat of the television industry by changing with the times. It has
been dealt with in the law through acts and the creation of the government regulating agency (FCC).
Today the radio is the cheapest and most affective way to communicate with everyone around the
world. It began with the invention of the telegraph by Samuel Morse in 1844 and developed as the
knowledgeable minds of inventors and engineers worked from the late 1800s to the present to create
the powerful communications medium we know today ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Along with the ability to connect stations by wire came cultural issues. Americans feared monopolies.
AT T already controlled the telephone business and also had control over the radio wires. AT T feared
that they would lose their telephone monopoly if they did not withdraw from the radio monopoly. At
the same time RCA, GE, and Westinghouse worried about government interference. These companies
were interested in achieving national radio with maximum profit and minimum public fuss over
monopoly (Smulyan 58). In 1926 they solved the problem by creating a separate broadcast
organization that would lease telephone lines from AT T. The new company was NBC (National
Broadcasting System). Now there were two NBC stations that were operated independently that had
coast to coast connections to local stations. The arrangement pleased the government, the companies,
and the public (Vivian 177). Radio was still lacking in regulations. There were too many stations
broadcasting at the same frequencies interrupting each others broadcasts. This was frustrating for the
listeners and the broadcasters. The solution was the Radio Act of 1927 (Keith 6). This act created the
Federal Radio Commission (FRC). The FRC s responsibility was to license radio stations ‘if public
convenience, interest or necessity is thereby served. The law also stated that the air waves were
property of the United States government and renewable licenses would be issued for three year

Councilman F.B. Rusty Walker, IV. They both voiced disparities regarding the pay rate amongst police
officers and firefighters. Although they did disagree, at the end of the meeting, Councilman F.B. Rusty

Intimate Partner Abuse Case Study
Problem Imagine looking around at the people in a room with you and realizing that almost half of
them may have experienced some form of intimate partner abuse during their lifetime. This could well
be the case, with the Word Health Organization reporting that globally, one in three women experience
intimate partner physical violence in their lifetime (García Moreno et al., 2013). In the United States,
31.5% of women and 27.5% of men experience intimate partner physical violence in their lifetime
(Breiding, 2011). These figures are even more staggering when psychological abuse is included. In the
United States, 47.1% of women and 46.5% of men have experienced psychological abuse in their
lifetime (Breiding, 2011).

Dbq Sugar Trade
The sugar trade succeeded due to the increasing demand for the product, along with the advent of
European colonization of the Caribbean, and the use of slavery as an efficient workforce. The rise in
demand for sugar was partially a result of the addictive properties it had, which caused people to want
more of it. The islands on which the Europeans were colonizing were ideal for the growth of cane
sugar, the plant that is processed into the finished sugar product. With the use of slaves, the production
of sugar was happening at a much quicker and cheaper rate than before, thus creating more sugar to
supply the demand.
During the sixteenth century, the Europeans colonized the Caribbean islands, which were perfect for
running sugar plantations. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Documents 8 and 10 both show and discuss how slaves were a major aspect of the sugar making
process. Slaves did all aspects of sugar production, whether they were outside growing sugar, or inside
processing the ever so desired substance (Doc 8). The use of slaves made production much faster,
giving the people what they demanded. The more slaves each plantation had, the more sugar they
would produce (Doc 10). Since more sugar was being manufactured at a more rapid rate, this helped
the sugar trade as a whole, as more product was being exported to Europe, where the demand was
extremely high. The cost of slaves, whether in British pounds or valued goods, is elaborated upon in
Documents 9 and 11. The cost of slaves grew over time, but when they were sold again, it was still for
over twice the amount they were purchased for (Doc 9). Slaves were relatively cheap to purchase,
could be used to produce sugar, and then could be sold for a hefty profit. Goods such as bullets were
also used to pay for slaves (Doc 11). English merchants were able to give Africa items that they were
large in stock with for an adult male slave, which showed just how easy they were to

you gave me everywhere I go keep writing . I don t know if my keeping of it is weird, but I ve passed
the point in my life where the number of people I have weirded out has lost its count. I don t know
how long this will be, so feel free to skip to the end where I will add a TL;DR summary. I think that

To take the confusion out of what I m trying to say, there was a lot going on my freshman year when I
first had you. I was shoved into a lot of waiting rooms only to be shoved into rooms that were trying
way to hard to come off as relaxing or laid back. I met a lot of strangers who were so interested in
poking into the deep parts of my mind that even I hadn t explored. Who are they to do that, right?
They haven t earned anything. They get paid a hundred dollars an hour just to tell me that, oh, yes, this
is not normal behavior . They get paid a hundred dollars an hour to write a prescription. Do they even
listen to what you say? The answer is they don t. They do not listen. They do not help. I have learned
that you cannot rely on people, especially strangers, to fix you. No one will swoop in like She s All

What I am trying to get at is this I have learned you have to fix yourself. In no way am I the right

Thornton Research Paper
An increase in the production of domestic magazines, primarily aimed at women, coincided with the
stricter expectations of female behaviour. The Lady s Magazine, in which the exposé of Thornton
appeared, was the first to survive any length of time. It was issued monthly and contained news but
largely consisted of poetry, sheet music and stories. Its cost made it largely an upper class magazine,
as it was the equivalent of a full day s pay of a skilled artisan. Lower class literature too experienced a
large growth in production. Street literature, including broadsides and ballads, had long been popular
since the sixteenth century and by the early nineteenth were sold in the thousands on every city street
corner. Both had firm backgrounds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By the early nineteenth century, newspapers were an integral part of daily life for both men and
women. Both sexes would have read about Thornton s story in the newspaper. While it is clear that
women read newspapers, the size of the female readership remains extremely unclear . It was this
female readership that the articulators of separate spheres ideology were concerned with reaching. The
basic premise of the separate spheres was that the public sphere of political life and employment was
naturally the space of men and the domestic sphere of the home was the realm of women. The
conscious articulation of this idea in the media of the nineteenth century was the product of fears of
societal instability, of which the breakdown of familial and sexual order became a striking metaphor .
Domestic magazines and newspapers worked to create and proliferate a baseline of acceptable
behaviour for women and offered definitions of what would be tolerated. The attempts in the print
media to reflect the model behaviour for the sexes is apparent the representations and phrasing of
Thornton s appearances, as seen in Chapter

Diversity In G. B. F.
G.B.F. is a movie that explores the life of a gay high school student but fails drastically to create a
narrative based on the real lives of LGBT persons and the result is riddled with inaccuracies,
stereotypes, and a lack of diversity. G.B.F. is about Tanner, a closeted high school teenager who lives
in a town with no openly gay people. However, with the vote for prom queen coming up, the three
contenders, Fawcett, Shley, and Caprice all want a Gay Best Friend to give them that edge over their
competition. They set out on a manhunt to find their own real life gay and accidentally out Tanner to

Topher is introduced to the audience as Shley s boyfriend. However, once Topher finally gets some
alone time with Tanner, he sexually assaults him by forcing Tanner to make out with him. When
Tanner tries to elicit an explanation from Topher over his uncharacteristic behavior, Topher says that
he s experimenting and needs to get it out of his system (G.B.F. 2013). He then proceeds to make out
with Tanner, even touching his crotch and legs in the process. Tanner has the physically remove
himself from the car in order to get Topher to stop. Later in the movie, Topher corners Brent in the
supply closet and forces himself on Brent. Similarly, Topher does not care the Brent has never
expressed a sexual interest in him, he simply forces himself onto the only two gay men he knows so
that he can fulfill some sort of fantasy or urge he has. Topher is obviously not straight, however, it is
unclear whether he is gay, bisexual, fluid, or pansexual. Either way, Topher is a member of the LGBT
community and his actions portray them in a horrible light. Topher sexually assaults two men in this
movie without their consent, making it seem like closeted members of the LGBT community are only
horny and violent. For a movie that is supposed to display the LGBT community is a positive light,
G.B.F. does a horrible job portraying Topher as a questioning teenager trying to figure out his
sexuality. The producers could have used Topher to show the side of the LGBT community that is in
the process of questioning their sexuality and experimenting, but they instead choose to only show
Topher as a horny and violent

Pantofola D Oro Essay
History
Pantofola d Oro is a company based in Italy that manufactures soccer boots, leisure footwear, as well
as clothing. The company began in a small family workshop in Ascoli Piceno industrial district, Italy
in the year 1886. At the time, it was just a cobbler s shop, which was founded by Emidio Lazzarini
when he worked as a shoemaker; as he put into practice the teachings given to him by not only his
father but also his grandfather. However, the company had not begun producing handcrafted elite
soccer boots until the 1950s when Emidio took over the business, which was run by his father. After
the day s work was done, Emilio would devote his time to wrestling, and as a wrestler he used to wear

The Americans seem to be more familiar with brands like Nike, Reebok, Adidas, among others. This
will make it a bit difficult to penetrate the market as much as those other big footwear producing
companies have.
Furthermore, Pantofola d Oro s products cannot be found in U.S stores despite their presence all over
Europe. For the few who already recognize the brand and want to purchase it, they can only get it
from the pro direct soccer website. However, very few people in the U.S. know about this and as a
result, Pantofola d Oro does not take up any significant size of the U.S. soccer footwear market share.
Due to the high quality and incorporation of NFC technology in Pantofola d Oro s products, they cost
more than those of competitors. They are also set to be placed in the big departmental stores only, such
as Nordstrom and Barneys. This may reduce their potential to be recognized and thus bought by many
people.

Germany, the United States and Northern Europe with the assistance of three international partners

Opera Review Essay
It is frequently stated that opera is a dying, if not dead, artform: irrelevant to the cultural scene of the
twenty first century (Morris, 2003). However, it is arguable that much of what society rejects comes
from a learnt sense of prejudice or lack of education and exposure (Murphy Paul, 1998). In response
to this, it becomes important to understand the relevance of operatic themes and the techniques in
which they are presented in order to challenge the mass perceptions of outdatedness. Similarly, it is
pertinent to consider the levels on which opera may be enjoyed, as it can appeal to many people in
ways other than the vocal aspects. Finally, everybody should be made aware of what opportunities are
available to explore and engage in contemporary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many examples of recent operatic premieres that target a different demographic of audience.
The contrasts of language and modern day contexts can make the opera feel more accessible (Service,
2014), removing the elitist stigma from the productions. Cloudstreet was one of many operas
premiered in 2016, and told Tim Winton s story of post war working class Australians (Henderson,
2016). Many aspects of this production clearly strived to make the performance highly inclusive, such
as the narrative, language, costuming, use of modern compositional techniques, addition of
colloquialisms and profanities, and the way in which the opera was marketed. However, this is not a
standalone example; other recent opera premieres include The Rabbits, by Kate Miller Heidke and
Lindy, by Moya Henderson and Gesualdo, by John Wregg (Partial Durations, 2014). It is important for
everyone to be aware of the opportunities to see modern opera, as it is a highly accessible way to
attend opera, particularly for those people who would be reluctant to see a classical opera. Knowing
the possible events to attend and attending those performances is a huge part of making informed
decisions about opera and personal

Analysis Of Don t Blame The Eater
Is Greed actually not of a financial use rather than a emotional use. If so would employees who work
at fast food establishments or even major corporate heads of these billion dollar fast food chains allow
their own children to indulge themselves in them, knowingly aware of the vast risks they could
embark on later in life due to their unhealthy choices? David Zinczenko brings up valid points on how
fast food is harmful to one s body in Don t Blame the Eater, . Zinczenko is able to effectively argue
against the manipulation of the food industry by showing the reader that the consumer is the victim
while the food industry is the one to blame. His use of questioning, personal appeals, imagery, direct
tone and colorful diction results in a compelling case that supports his accusations of manipulation by
the fast food industry. Zinczenko asks questions to support his arguments and guide the reader to what
he believes to be actually true. He starts off the essay using an analogy: is the case of children who
sued McDonald s for their obesity the same as the case of middle aged men suing Porsche for their
speeding tickets? (Paragraph 1). He points out the fallacy of the men suing someone else for
something that was their own fault (such as receiving a speeding ticket), but brings attention to
children who shouldn t be blamed for what society claims is their responsibility. The next question he
asks relates to what fast food restaurants would argue/rebuttal with; shouldn t we

Catholic Religious Beliefs
The Catholic Church s current pope, Pope Francis once said, A good Catholic meddles in politics,
offering the best of himself, so that those who govern can govern. But what is the best that we can
offer to those who govern? Prayer! Catholics are approximately half of the number of Christians,
reaching more than one billion members. This number makes it one of the largest religions in the
world. In 2003, the Catholic population in the United States was 63.4 million (Roman Catholic
Church, 2017). The Catholic Church s basic beliefs influence their demographics, party affiliation,
stances on different political issues, and involvement in American politics.
I attended a service at The Cathedral of Saint Joseph in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. At this service,
politics were not directly mentioned, but Father Darin Schmidt said a few interesting words. In a
message to the congregation he said, love unconditionally, without limits. Additionally, he also said,
peace, liberty, and justice for all. I think these quotes are helpful in understanding the Catholic Church
s ideologies. During prayer, they mentioned a few current issues including support for the military, the
Las Vegas shooting, refugees, and victims of natural disasters. Besides these few observations, the
cathedral did express any straightforward political statements.
One of the best ways to understand a religion s political views is to understand their basic beliefs and
what they feel to be good and moral. The

Communism And Communism Similarities
China and Russia are seen as two of the most powerful nations in the world. Their strong military,
economy, and large amount of land and population. These two nations have many similarities and
differences that effect their relationship and how other nations see them across the globe. One major
trait they have in common in their governments political view, communism. Communism was seen as
one of the biggest threats to the world once it swallowed China and Russia. Communism is a theory or

The legislative branch and the judicial branches of government are both in control of who is elected
into office and how people vote. Today, communism is still with China and Russia. However one little
detail of power has changed when the USSR became Russia. China focuses on the preservation of
power in the hands of one party and on the other hand Russia is obsessed with the preservation of
power in the hands of one man (blogs.reuters.com). Both countries also had conflicts with the United
States about communism and their way of thinking about government. They constantly criticize the
rest of the worlds ways of government. China and Russia had many similarities with communism and
government, but they also had many differences that separated their thinking and beliefs. One of the
most major differences was how long the rule of communism lasted in both of these countries. China s
communism lasted but Soviet did not (classroom.synonym.com). Over the decades political parties
that want to change Russia have started to emerge. This wide list consists of The Communism Party of
the Russian Federation, The Liberal Democratic Party of Russia, Rodina, and United Russia
(indexmundi.com). Communism is shown in some sort of way with each of these parties. On the other
hand, in china there is only one party that is allowed to run for office, and that party is the Chinese
Communism Party. This party runs over eight nominally independent small parties

  • 2. The Global Location Allocation Problem Example 1. The first type of problem discussed was the global location allocation problem. These problems are often seen in large business and can be solved by combining AHP and GP. However, in this smaller example the decision maker is choosing where to send his sales associates. According to the AHP, the goal must first be set, then the criteria, then the alternative locations, as seen in Figure 2. Figure 2. Illustrates the AHP of example 1. After the initial hierarchy was created, as described earlier, to make the problem global and to add the goal programming, weights have to be added to the locations and the criteria as seen in Figure 3. Figure 3. Illustrates the initial AHP combined with GP and created into a global LAP. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The next type of LAP is capacitated problems. Capacitated problems can be solved with stochastic models such as DCP, CCP, and the Hybrid Intelligence Algorithm. This example is one generated by [3] which seeks to maximize the probability that the transportation cost doesn t exceed $2,300. In order to do this, the DCP model in Equation 14 was used. Equation 14 Where Pr is the probability and C(x,y|ω) is the transportation cost. The hybrid intelligence algorithm runs the problem 10,000 times with different environmental criteria. This was done 10 times and the percent error was calculated. These results are shown in Table 3 below. Table 3. Shows the Comparison of the Different Solutions of the Capacitated LAP. Since the percent error does not go above 2.3% and the probability of the transportation cost not exceeding the goal is always above 90%, we can say that it is a viable option to choose the current limits on the constraints (Pop_size, P_c,P_m,α). Also this indicates that the hybrid algorithm is an effective model to solve these capacitated LAPs. Example 3. The last type of LAP examined is large LAP s. One common way to solve large problems is by two opt switching, or H4 as discussed in [2]. H4 uses two opt switching to simultaneously switch the allocation of two locations to make the path more efficient. A simple example can be seen in GPS routes that UPS could use to deliver and pick up ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Puerto Rican Beauty Standards Essay As of recently, the media has been flooded with positive interpretations of beauty standards all over the world. According to various sources, beauty ideals, in women especially, are socially constructed in order to judge a person s value based on physical attractiveness; therefore, it is highly encouraged that people pay attention to their looks and take care of themselves, in order for others to create a positive first impression of one s character. It is no secret that beauty standards vary from one culture to the next and it is difficult to establish a universal principle of what is considered beautiful. Many countries ideals contrast one another and, as a result, allow for stereotypes to emerge. This is the case between American ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is not uncommon that you ll hear Puerto Ricans refer to themselves as the mutts of the Spanish community, this is because of the island s history. Soon after Christopher Columbus discovered the island in 1493, it became known as the rich port for the Spanish or Puerto Rico, due to the fact that it produced mass amounts of cattle, sugar cane, tobacco, and coffee, especially considering the island s size. Such prosperity and wealth opened the door for the slave trade to enter the colony, and as a result Puerto Rican bloodlines and cultures evolved not only from the Spanish, but also from Africans, and indigenous Taíno and Carib people ( Puerto Rico History and Heritage ). In addition, over the centuries many failed attempts where made by the French, Dutch, and English to conquer the island which even further changed the bloodlines. Of course, as history has it, at the end of the Spanish American war in 1898, the Treaty of Paris declared the the Spanish would surrender Puerto Rico to the United States, therefore infiltrating American culture and beauty ideals. One of the most charming statements ever made about Puerto Rican diversity goes as follows: Their skins were like a rainbow of toasted wood...Some skins were very fair, as fair as his, but they betrayed another something against the bone. • 4. Comparing Reality And Identity In The Matrix And The Matrix Throughout the history of humanity, human have shaped and formed different realities and identities. Each reality and identity possess its unique purpose which has contributes to develop human history around the world. The Greek philosopher, Plato, discusses that some identities are eternal forms . However, the film, The Matrix , suggests that some realities are not eternal forms . If realities are temporal, identities could also be temporal forms. According to The Matrix, the relationship between human and machines shows that the reality could be a temporal form. Since the reality is temporary, the human mainly serves as a power source for the machines when their bodies are connected with wires and their bodies become codes in part of the matrix. If the human bodies are disconnected with the wires and machines, their minds are pulled back to the reality in the present, and their identities form new identities which are different from the matrix. Perhaps, their true identities finally return to the bodies. In the matrix, human are under the slavery system created by the machines, and their identities are trapped into false realities created by the matrix. If human bodies and minds are disconnect, they could have a completely new reality with different identities beside the ones they have in the matrix. Therefore, identities are just temporary and can be changed when human minds and bodies recognize that they are in different realities created by numerous. However, Karl Marx, a German author, states that [t]he history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles (Marx, 62). He identifies history as class struggles which categorize the people from different classes in eternal forms as Plato thinks about identities. In Marx s The Communist manifesto, he introduces two classes, which are Proletariat and Bourgeois. The Proletariat works for Bourgeois, but the Bourgeois owns the majority of the capital. In Bourgeois society, there is a gap between rich and poor, and being poor becomes a consent struggle for the Proletariat. In this society, the Bourgeois has the identity of being rich, and the Proletariat owns the identity of being poor. As long as the Bourgeois exists, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. margaret sanger Essay Nearly 70 years ago, one woman pioneered one of the most radical and transforming political movements of the century. Through the life that she led and the lessons she taught us, many know her as the one girl revolution . Though Margaret Sanger s revolution may be even more controversial now than during her 50 year career of national and international battles, her opinions can teach us many lessons. Due to her strong influence in history, our society has increased health awareness for women, made sexual protection a choice for all people, and also introduced family modification as a choice for mankind. Having gone through the hardships that she did, Margaret Sanger developed her own theories and beliefs about health in women. Through the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition to the articles she composed, Margaret Sanger decided to make sexual protection an option for all people. Previously, contraceptives and spermicides were only distributed to those who had information on the matter and access to them (Margaret 1). Sanger was past 80 when she saw the first marketing of a contraceptive pill, which she had helped develop, although legal change was slow. It took until 1965, a year before her death, for the Supreme Court to approve the use of contraception, but Sanger had accomplished a goal (Margaret 1). Now, contraceptives were available to all women, in all walks of life, regardless of their financial situations. In her mind, poor mental development was largely the result of poverty, overpopulation and the lack of attention to children. This was definitely one of the reasons why Sanger desired to make protection available to lower class citizens, along with the wealthy. Although she had met her goal of legalizing birth control, Margaret Sanger still desired to assist women who were already pregnant but didn t wish to keep the child. After returning from a national tour in 1916, Sanger opened the nation s first birth control clinic in Brownsville, Brooklyn (Katz 1). This, however, was a minor advancement considering that the clinic was raided in its first nine days of operation and she was taken to prison. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Essay on Natural Gas Fracking Risks Natural gas is said to be one of the most popular forms of energy today. In the past, often left undeveloped and wasted, it was once considered unusable and worthless , compared to oil. In order to try to break our country s dependence on foreign oil supplies, we have begun to dip into our own natural gas supply. Natural gas is found underground, and is produced when trapped gas is released above ground. Hydraulic fracturing or fracking is a process that extracts natural gas from the ground. As harmless as the billion dollar producing oil companies would want us to believe, environmental groups, scientists, and average citizens have raised concerns about the negative impact of hydraulic fracking on the environment and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As more and more natural gas locations are sprouting up so close to home, it makes sense to explore the risks proven to be associated with fracking. Groundwater polluting of communities near natural gas drilling sites, has been linked to fracking. At least 15 water wells in Rosebud, Alberta, have gone bad since EnCana Corporation fracked into their aquifer in search of shale gas in 2004 (Nelson 25). By fracking into the aquifer, the chemicals used in the process undoubtedly contaminated the drinking water of the area. Nelson also reports of Rosebud resident, Jessica Ernst and her family s experience with fracking. Ms. Ernst stated that Encana gas told her family that they would never fracture near her family s aquifer. By 2005, Ms. Ernst says that her water started going bad, she was receiving horrible burns and rashes from showering, and her dogs refused to drink the water so that is when she began to pay attention (Nelson 25). It is a horrible thought that a person could get burnt taking a shower in their own home or not be able to provide their pets safe water to drink. In 2006, Ernst decided to go public, showing reporters how she could set fire to her tap water, and speaking out about the industry (Nelson 25). One gas company recently bought out the town of Dimock, Pennsylvania, for $4.1 million because fracking made the water completely undrinkable (Nelson 26). It makes one wonder how large drilling ... • 7. Forgetfulness Billy Collins Poem Essay: Forgetfulness by Billy Collins A feeling that disturbs people most of the time is the feeling of forgetfulness. This is because people are struggling to remember something they cannot remember, therefore it puts a person in distress. In Forgetfulness , Billy Collins uses imagery to warn the reader of the dangers and risks he might take if he does not pay attention to everything that happens in his life. In his poem, Collins uses imagery to remind the reader of what it feels like when someone is struggling to remember [something] and how a person cannot recall the specific memory that was lost because it is not poised on the tip of [his] tongue . It happens to be a well known fact when people forget anything, especially at the wrong time, it turns people from a state of calmness to a state of panic. This is because he is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Consider this in relation to growing up. Part of growing up is learning how to handle certain situations, specifically emergency situations. However, many people assume that those types of situations rarely happen, especially to themselves. For instance, a five year old boy does not want to learn how to swim because he says he will stay on dry land his entire life. As the years go by, he forgets about not wanting to swim. One day he is drafted into the navy, his ship is attacked and sinks, and the next thing he knows, he drown because of the fact that he refused to learn how to swim. This example shows he has ended up like those who have forgotten how to swim , in other words he died like those who died from drowning. The man who drowned would not have suffered his fate if he had paid attention to the swimming lessons his parents made him take. By listening to the poet s warning of being in distress, the reader has the ability to prevent by remembering past lessons like this from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Runaway Twin The Runaway Twin by Peg Kehret is a fascinating book. The way the author describes the challenges Sunny went through are just outstanding. I think the theme of this book is to never give up no matter how difficult the challenges that are thrown at you are because in the end it will be worth it. I believe this because when Sunny was caught in the middle of a tornado she stuck her ground and tried her best to survive which she succeeded. Another example is, when Randy was caught under a few wooden boards and a a cast iron sink she tried her best to set him free, giving herself blisters in the process. She decided to run and try to find help for him she didn t just give up on him. Sunny Skyland is only 3 years old. Her and her twin sister, Starr, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Icarus Deception Writing to me, is an art form, and I consider myself reasonably successful at it, with several thousand items published around the world, both in print and on line. I decided that, in light of the demise of the Squidoo website, which has been sold to Hubpages, I would review one of the books written by the site founder, Seth Godin. He has for years been a leading light in the field of motivational education, and you have to say that he has a kind of in your face style that demands your attention, which is perhaps one of the reasons why his work, and this volume The Icarus Deception are so interesting. He uses the title character whose determination to succeed led to his demise, as we all know in a fascinating illustration of his belief that, where Icarus is concerned, first appearances are very deceptive. The iconic fable tells that Icarus died because the wax in those melted when flying too close to the sun, but Seth Godin maintains that this could be interpreted as the unlucky lad being blinded by initial success, and failing to think things through properly. ... It is the antithesis of feminism, a moral, political, and social movement that seeks justice for women. Sexism is important because it undermines the welfare of one half of the human population and is a major source of women s oppression. The concept of women as inferior to men originates from ancient civilization. Since the beginning of time, men are gifted the titled as strong, independent, and the bread winner for the entire households. In a sense, men are superior as they hold all the power and ability to decide for their household and nation. On the other hand, women are limited to only reside in the home as their duties cleaning, cooking, and nursing belongs at home. This suppression and imbalance in power is still a constant battle for women even after the Women s Rights Movement. Women fought for equality and desired to have the freedom to express their minds and do activities outside the home like men. They were eventually granted this freedom as time progressed, but gender roles are still present in modern society. One particular stereotype portrayed by the media is women s inability to fight and protect themselves. Female characters are often depicted as a damsels in distress, always in need of protection or rescuing from a male character. Sadly enough, this perception is not always true. Women are not weak, fragile, or incapable of protecting themselves. If anything, females have the capability to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Cask Of Amontillado Word Choice Edgar Allan Poe controlled his word choice in his story, The Cask Of Amontillado, by using words that elevated the story and created a consistent mood throughout it. In the story he compared the catacombs to the underground catacombs in Paris, due to the fact that they are lined to the brim with remains. He also referred to the nitre in the crypt by saying, [O]bserve the white webwork which gleams from these cavern walls. Research from the composition of sediments of fossils shells of marine organisms conclude that carbon dioxide trapped within our atmosphere, increased global temperatures by more than 5 degrees in just a few thousand years (Jardine, 2011). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... * While humans might not be solely to blame for global warming, we definitely have a major role. Most are familiar with the burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil, and gas) as a major contributor to the overall C02, although, just as equally important is that of deforestation. It was realized that conversions of land use, primarily deforestation in the tropics, induce substantial terrestrial carbon losses to the atmosphere, approximately 1.6 billion tons annually (Broadmeadow, Freer Smith, amp; J. Lynch, 2007). While the cause of deforestation varies in different regions, the key contributors are cutting down tree to open up more land for agriculture, urban sprawl (Turk amp; Bensel, 2011). Forests work like filters to remove CO2 from the air and store it in the trees. When the trees are felled or burned, huge amounts of CO2 are released into the atmosphere at a rapid pace. Urban Sprawl, a result of deforestation releases significant amounts of green house gases such as CO2. Not only do you have carbon dioxide being release from burning or cutting of forests, it is coupled by urban sprawl. It just so happens one of the effects of urban sprawl is that Concrete production contributes 5 percent of annual anthropogenic global CO2 production, mainly because such vast ... Four hours of sleep lets the student have more time to study than five hours of sleep. Extreme levels of parenting lead to excessive pressure on their children, and many teachers and parents complain bitterly about their education system, but little is done to change it (Fallows 204). The Big Three global credit rating agencies have garnered immense scrutiny and criticism for the role they played in the financial crisis and rightly so they were not only at the epicenter of this colossal debacle but also exacerbated it. There is overwhelming evidence suggesting that the marketing and sale of the MBSs at the core of this crisis would have been virtually impossible without the CRAs signing off. The catastrophically inaccurate ratings they granted to securities they rated helped the markets rally and their eventual massive downgrades left not just the US but also the world economy in utter disarray. In spite of what arguments these agencies come up with to shy away for any responsibility the fact remains that they chose big fees and bigger market shares over integrity in a business that relies on integrity. To understand how the CRAs played a major role in the crisis, we must first understand why they became such a significant influence on investor perception. Investors both individual and institutional look at the CRAs to provide them with risk analysis of a debt security, in form of a credit rating, which is instrumental to these investors decision making process. The risk originates due to two main factors: the ultimate mortgage holders never having met the debtors, and the sheer complexity of these securities that comprise of parts of a plethora of loans. Discrimination based on age was not a large issue until the beginning of the 20th century, mainly because it was a tacit form of discrimination. After World War II, the workplace was changed forever because of the new technology which exterminated many jobs, and employees were expected to know more than ever and work very quickly. When the baby boom generation was in its youth, the workplace again was changed by the glut of young workers. Those who were old or even middle age started to meet more pressure to leave the workforce entirely, and retire. It was also common for the elderly to be forced out entirely. Older workers who were women or part of minority groups faced particularly daunting odds because they had not one barrier but two in the way of being employed. Technology again played a large role in keeping older workers out of the workplace because many of the younger workers had taken computer classes and had experience with it. All of these factors led to the reaction of the public and government, which took action to even the playing field for all Americans. The radio has survived the threat of the television industry by changing with the times. It has been dealt with in the law through acts and the creation of the government regulating agency (FCC). Today the radio is the cheapest and most affective way to communicate with everyone around the world. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Along with the ability to connect stations by wire came cultural issues. Americans feared monopolies. AT T already controlled the telephone business and also had control over the radio wires. AT T feared that they would lose their telephone monopoly if they did not withdraw from the radio monopoly. At the same time RCA, GE, and Westinghouse worried about government interference. These companies were interested in achieving national radio with maximum profit and minimum public fuss over monopoly (Smulyan 58). In 1926 they solved the problem by creating a separate broadcast organization that would lease telephone lines from AT T. The new company was NBC (National Broadcasting System). Now there were two NBC stations that were operated independently that had coast to coast connections to local stations. The arrangement pleased the government, the companies, and the public (Vivian 177). Radio was still lacking in regulations. There were too many stations broadcasting at the same frequencies interrupting each others broadcasts. This was frustrating for the listeners and the broadcasters. The solution was the Radio Act of 1927 (Keith 6). This act created the Federal Radio Commission (FRC). The islands on which the Europeans were colonizing were ideal for the growth of cane sugar, the plant that is processed into the finished sugar product. • 30. Pantofola D Oro Essay History Pantofola d Oro is a company based in Italy that manufactures soccer boots, leisure footwear, as well as clothing. The company began in a small family workshop in Ascoli Piceno industrial district, Italy in the year 1886. At the time, it was just a cobbler s shop, which was founded by Emidio Lazzarini when he worked as a shoemaker; as he put into practice the teachings given to him by not only his father but also his grandfather. However, the company had not begun producing handcrafted elite soccer boots until the 1950s when Emidio took over the business, which was run by his father. After the day s work was done, Emilio would devote his time to wrestling, and as a wrestler he used to wear shoes that he found to be both uncomfortable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Americans seem to be more familiar with brands like Nike, Reebok, Adidas, among others. This will make it a bit difficult to penetrate the market as much as those other big footwear producing companies have. Furthermore, Pantofola d Oro s products cannot be found in U.S stores despite their presence all over Europe. For the few who already recognize the brand and want to purchase it, they can only get it from the pro direct soccer website. However, very few people in the U.S. know about this and as a result, Pantofola d Oro does not take up any significant size of the U.S. soccer footwear market share. Due to the high quality and incorporation of NFC technology in Pantofola d Oro s products, they cost more than those of competitors. They are also set to be placed in the big departmental stores only, such as Nordstrom and Barneys. This may reduce their potential to be recognized and thus bought by many people. International Operations The company has already developed presence in Italy and Europe. It is also planning to scale up to Germany, the United States and Northern Europe with the assistance of three international partners Safe Way, Calzaturificio and Officina ... • 31. Opera Review Essay It is frequently stated that opera is a dying, if not dead, artform: irrelevant to the cultural scene of the twenty first century (Morris, 2003). However, it is arguable that much of what society rejects comes from a learnt sense of prejudice or lack of education and exposure (Murphy Paul, 1998). In response to this, it becomes important to understand the relevance of operatic themes and the techniques in which they are presented in order to challenge the mass perceptions of outdatedness. Similarly, it is pertinent to consider the levels on which opera may be enjoyed, as it can appeal to many people in ways other than the vocal aspects. Finally, everybody should be made aware of what opportunities are available to explore and engage in contemporary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many examples of recent operatic premieres that target a different demographic of audience. The contrasts of language and modern day contexts can make the opera feel more accessible (Service, 2014), removing the elitist stigma from the productions. Cloudstreet was one of many operas premiered in 2016, and told Tim Winton s story of post war working class Australians (Henderson, 2016). Many aspects of this production clearly strived to make the performance highly inclusive, such as the narrative, language, costuming, use of modern compositional techniques, addition of colloquialisms and profanities, and the way in which the opera was marketed. However, this is not a standalone example; other recent opera premieres include The Rabbits, by Kate Miller Heidke and Lindy, by Moya Henderson and Gesualdo, by John Wregg (Partial Durations, 2014). It is important for everyone to be aware of the opportunities to see modern opera, as it is a highly accessible way to attend opera, particularly for those people who would be reluctant to see a classical opera. Knowing the possible events to attend and attending those performances is a huge part of making informed decisions about opera and personal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Analysis Of Don t Blame The Eater Is Greed actually not of a financial use rather than a emotional use. If so would employees who work at fast food establishments or even major corporate heads of these billion dollar fast food chains allow their own children to indulge themselves in them, knowingly aware of the vast risks they could embark on later in life due to their unhealthy choices? David Zinczenko brings up valid points on how fast food is harmful to one s body in Don t Blame the Eater, . Zinczenko is able to effectively argue against the manipulation of the food industry by showing the reader that the consumer is the victim while the food industry is the one to blame. His use of questioning, personal appeals, imagery, direct tone and colorful diction results in a compelling case that supports his accusations of manipulation by the fast food industry. Zinczenko asks questions to support his arguments and guide the reader to what he believes to be actually true. He starts off the essay using an analogy: is the case of children who sued McDonald s for their obesity the same as the case of middle aged men suing Porsche for their speeding tickets? (Paragraph 1). He points out the fallacy of the men suing someone else for something that was their own fault (such as receiving a speeding ticket), but brings attention to children who shouldn t be blamed for what society claims is their responsibility. The next question he asks relates to what fast food restaurants would argue/rebuttal with; shouldn t we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Catholic Religious Beliefs The Catholic Church s current pope, Pope Francis once said, A good Catholic meddles in politics, offering the best of himself, so that those who govern can govern. But what is the best that we can offer to those who govern? Prayer! Catholics are approximately half of the number of Christians, reaching more than one billion members. This number makes it one of the largest religions in the world. In 2003, the Catholic population in the United States was 63.4 million (Roman Catholic Church, 2017). The Catholic Church s basic beliefs influence their demographics, party affiliation, stances on different political issues, and involvement in American politics. I attended a service at The Cathedral of Saint Joseph in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. At this service, politics were not directly mentioned, but Father Darin Schmidt said a few interesting words. In a message to the congregation he said, love unconditionally, without limits. Additionally, he also said, peace, liberty, and justice for all. I think these quotes are helpful in understanding the Catholic Church s ideologies. During prayer, they mentioned a few current issues including support for the military, the Las Vegas shooting, refugees, and victims of natural disasters. Besides these few observations, the cathedral did express any straightforward political statements. One of the best ways to understand a religion s political views is to understand their basic beliefs and what they feel to be good and moral. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Communism And Communism Similarities China and Russia are seen as two of the most powerful nations in the world. Their strong military, economy, and large amount of land and population. These two nations have many similarities and differences that effect their relationship and how other nations see them across the globe. One major trait they have in common in their governments political view, communism. Communism was seen as one of the biggest threats to the world once it swallowed China and Russia. Communism is a theory or system of social organization based on the holding of all property in common, actual ownership being ascribed to the community as a whole or to the state (definition.com). The legislative branch and the judicial branches of government are both in control of who is elected into office and how people vote. Today, communism is still with China and Russia. However one little detail of power has changed when the USSR became Russia. China focuses on the preservation of power in the hands of one party and on the other hand Russia is obsessed with the preservation of power in the hands of one man (blogs.reuters.com). Both countries also had conflicts with the United States about communism and their way of thinking about government. They constantly criticize the rest of the worlds ways of government. China and Russia had many similarities with communism and government, but they also had many differences that separated their thinking and beliefs. One of the most major differences was how long the rule of communism lasted in both of these countries. China s communism lasted but Soviet did not (classroom.synonym.com). Over the decades political parties that want to change Russia have started to emerge. This wide list consists of The Communism Party of the Russian Federation, The Liberal Democratic Party of Russia, Rodina, and United Russia (indexmundi.com). Communism is shown in some sort of way with each of these parties. On the other hand, in china there is only one party that is allowed to run for office, and that party is the Chinese Communism Party. This party runs over eight nominally independent small parties ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
