The Benefits of Organic Foods
Benefits of Organic Foods
Introduction:
In spite of the fact that organic foods have been proved to have a better effect on people s health in
comparison to conventional foods served in supermarkets, the fact that people continue to buy their
food without expressing interest in its provenience makes it possible for one to understand that the
masses have failed to comprehend the full complexity of the problem at hand. People need to
understand that the You are what you eat expression applies perfectly in their case and that it is
essential for them to get actively involved in creating lifestyles that reflect positively on their health.
Even with this, I have trouble determining whether or not organic foods are actually very important
when considering nutrition.
Body:
Organic foods from a global perspective dealing with profits and trends
Recent advancements in the medical world have made it possible for the masses to resort to taking
medicine whenever they feel ill. As a consequence, people came to consider that pills are the answer
to unhealthy diets and that they thus no longer require buying organic foods in order to live healthier.
It is thus essential to determine whether it would be more effective for individuals to stick to
traditional foods sold in non specialized shops or if it would be better for them to focus on consuming
organic foods only.
Individuals in the contemporary society follow a trend by expressing interest in buying organic foods

Ludwig Van Beethoven s Life
Ludwig van Beethoven Ludwig van Beethoven was a tremendous musician and composer with a
awfully long and tough life.He had a challenging childhood, but he used his music as his outlet. He
moved from his home town in Bonn, which is now a museum, and became well known throughout the
world. He lived in Europe when everything was changing, there were a lot of new wars and new
rulers. He used a great deal of emotions in this music and because of all the time that he had spent
practicing, when his hearing was lost his music was still considered to be incredible. People from his
time and the present time see him as a genius. Beethoven was born in Bonn, Germany approximately
in December of 1770.There is no recorded date of Beethoven s exact birth, but it is known that it is in
December. This was an appropriate time for Beethoven to be born, it was receptive and ready to
welcome a genius who would change everything. His parents produced seven children, but only four
of them lived to adulthood. Only Ludwig and his two younger brothers remained. In school it is said
that he was a shy, taciturn, serious young man. That he was enclosed in himself and extremely peevish
with people (Marek 39). School turned out to not be so clear for young Beethoven as he chose to drop
out when he was eleven, this resulted in him never learning to spell, do math, or write well. Although,
he did learn French, Latin, and Italian. This was around 1780 and was when he began to compose
pieces, one of

The Downfall of the U.S. Auto Market and the Collapse of...
The Downfall of the U.S. Auto Market and the Collapse of the Economy Unemployment is rising and
the entire global economy is falling. The story has become all too common. If there is a negative
direction available to follow, we re definitely taking advantage of the opportunity. Americans became
too accustomed to the period of inflation through the 1990s, and the ongoing recession is affecting
most everyone. The Big Three automakers (GM, Ford and Chrysler) have made massive cuts to their
workforces, and the entire national job market has been upended. My personal life has been greatly
distorted due to these events, after Delphi (contracted by GM) outsourced most of their jobs and shut
down 21 of their 29 plants in the US. In previous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 2008 and 2009, a series of bailouts were provided to General Motors and Chrysler, due to slowing
car sales and massive quarterly losses. Unions buckled due to the fact that they received much higher
wages, and more luxurious benefits than their non unionized counterparts. In 2006, Consumer Reports
top ten car picks were Japanese (Noe). Parts makers were quick to move jobs overseas, where laborers
were willing to work for much less money. In 2008, GM closed 14 factories, 2,000 dealers, and cut
47,000 employees. All of these factors, among numerous more, were responsible for the collapse of
the economy on a national and global scale. Gasoline prices soared during the energy crisis which
lasted from 2003 2008. Consumers moved from buying SUV s and trucks to more fuel efficient cars,
such as hybrids. This was especially disconcerting considering that these larger vehicles were the most
profitable for the automakers (MSNBC). The market which was hardest hit was that of the parts
makers, which saw their cash flow cut in half, since automakers were rushing to cut production
(Economist). GM filed for bankruptcy 32 days after Chrysler, effectively making GM the fourth
largest company ever to file for bankruptcy (Carty). According to Darwin Bible, probably one of the
worst things about it has been watching all the stress on workers faces and their families faces (Carty).

Isolation, Loneliness And Symbolism In Hands, By Sherwood...
Symbolism is very crucial in literature, especially in short fiction. In the short story Hands, by
Sherwood Anderson, Anderson gives a perfect example of symbolism. In the story Hands, Anderson
uses symbolism of the hands of Wing Biddlebaum to show the meaning of the story. Anderson
explores the theme of isolation and loneliness, through the symbolization of Wing s hands. By
Anderson writing Hands is showing how the protagonist hands symbolizes the many ways of him
feeling isolated and lonely in Ohio. The main character, Wing Biddlebaum, formally known as Adolph
Myers, was accused of inappropriately touching the young boys he used to teach in a town in
Pennsylvania. After the fathers of the young boys found

discharge from the hospital. They are provided teaching about breastfeeding at home and offered
community health and peer group programs to guide them after their discharge (BCC, 2012).
How BFI Meets the Requirements of Health Promotion
The main focus of the Baby Friendly Initiative strategy is to promote successful breastfeeding and
support the mother through out the process (Pound Unger, 2017). This strategy encourages mothers to
breastfeed for at least up to 6 months (Pound Unger, 2017). This is accomplished by teaching mothers
about the importance of breastfeeding, advantages and disadvantages of breastfeeding and proper
breastfeeding techniques (Pound Unger, 2017). The educating process in the BFI starts from
pregnancy until post partum ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of them is disagreement regarding the valid use of 10 Step process (Cadwell Turner Maffei,
2004). Prenatal teaching programs have limited number of staff to provide teaching prenatal teaching
(Cadwell Turner Maffei, 2004). Immediate Postpartum assessments have become a priority before
breastfeeding (Cadwell Turner Maffei, 2004). This is preventing the BFI focus of mother and baby
bonding and breastfeeding right after birth, because important that the mother and the baby bonds for
the first hour after birth (BCC, 2012). The health care workers have limited time with each patient,
due to this reason conducting assessment and patient teaching is limited (Cadwell Turner Maffei,
2004). Patient s misconceptions about complications of breastfeeding may discourage them from
accessing the BFI program (Cadwell Turner Maffei, 2004). Different cultural practises can dis courage
mother from accessing or following the BFI (Cadwell Turner Maffei, 2004). Patient unknowing about
the BFI or other services can prevent them from accessing the program or from seeking support
(Cadwell Turner Maffei, 2004). Women who live in rural areas in third world countries, where they
have no access to medical assistance have a lower chance of accessing the BFI program (Penwell,
2010). Women who choose to free birth or unassisted birth at home have a lower chance of accessing
or participating in the BFI program (India Parenting, 2016).
Evidence of Effectiveness
Many studies were done to identify the effectiveness of the Baby friendly Initiative practise around the
world. One of the research shows that 87.3 % to 89% of mothers are breastfeeding and the Baby

Why Do Nurses Eat Their Young Essay
Nurses Eat Their Young : A Stressor Affecting New Nurses Performance
The world of nursing can be stressful yet fulfilling at the same time. After passing the licensure exam
and securing a job, new nurses next journey is transitioning to practice. Mixed feelings and emotions
are evident as they are about to enter a new phase in their careers and step out into the real world
Along these lines, new nurses will encounter colleagues who are helpful and who are not, as they
transition to become competent nurses. The aim of this paper is to identify a stressful situation
experienced by the author, provide examples of how this stressful situation affects nursing care,
incorporate the use of Lazarus and Folkman s stress theory, examine mindfulness as a psychosocial
stress mediator, describe how mindfulness can help in the stressful situation mentioned, and consider
how to incorporate this mediator in daily life.
The situation happened during the author s last day of orientation as a new medical surgical nurse. The
author was passing medications and administered aspirin to a patient as ordered. As the author
approached the nurses station, she stopped in disbelief as the charge nurse started yelling at her,
saying, Why are you not checking your orders? Why did you give aspirin when there was an order for
no anticoagulants? Do you know the patient is having a procedure tomorrow? New grads. Several

Ayn Rand’s Dystopian Novella Anthem and Its Relevance to...
The values at risk in Anthem are not merely those of the central luminary; they are the ostensible
values of an entire civilization our own. Our society is founded upon the notion of individual rights;
its existence, as Ayn Rand depicts, cannot be conceived on any other grounds. Anthem, Rand s
dystopian novella, is about us, and about what will happen if we do not follow alongside Equality 7
2521 and Liberty 5 3000 in their discovery of the importance of individualism.
Rand intends Equality s name to be a misnomer, since we know that he is far superior to his peers and
later comes to reject the principle his name characterizes. Liberty 5 3000 is a character meant to
epitomize freedom although it is quite paradoxical that her society would ... Show more content on

One of the expounding stories of Western culture is a central theme of Ayn Rand s Anthem the myth of
Prometheus. In Prometheus the Greek Titan and Equality s epics, both bring some kind of fire down
from the heavens to his fellow men Prometheus, by trickery, stole fire itself, while Equality discovered
and developed electricity and the light bulb. Though what they did was paramount, both were
punished for their egoistic, creative actions Prometheus by the almighty Zeus, Equality by the World
Council of Scholars.
Upon discovering the nature of selfhood and the many texts in the house of the Unmentionable Times,
Equality employs, for himself, a just, individual name: I have read of a man who lived many
thousands of years ago, and of all the names in these books, his is the one I wish to bear. He took the
light of the gods and he brought it to men...His name was Prometheus (98 9). The newly named
Prometheus expounds fundamental crises faced by man, upon his birth: explaining that man was once
enslaved by gods, kings, kin, and by race, but that he later broke free from all of their chains (101).
And in doing so, [Prometheus] declare[s] to all his brothers that a man has rights which neither god
nor king nor any other man can take away from him...for his is the right of man, and there is no right
on earth above this right (101 2). He selects the name of a god who taught men to be gods, gave them
fire, and was punished

Essay Of Inflammation
When injury occurs, the body goes through different phases in order to complete its recovery, each
phase has a specific job with the intention of preparing the body for the next phase of recovery. The
phases that the body goes through are; the bleeding phase, the inflammatory phase, the proliferation
phase and the remodelling phase, each of these phases happen at a specific time within the recovery
after the injury. The phase that this essay is going to look at is the inflammatory phase and what role
the inflammation has in tissue healing whilst briefly discussing what impacts it will have in a clinical
setting.
Inflammation is a nonspecific, defensive response of the body to tissue damage says J.Tortora
Derrickson (2011), it is an effort ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The neutrophils are attracted by fibronectine and growth factors which leads to them performing their
role of phagocytosis. Phagocytosis allows the neutrophils to engulf all the debris and bacteria that are
in and surround the site therefore getting rid of foreign particles and allow a clean environment for the
inflammation to being to happen. As a result of the phagocytosis happening this then leads to
macrophages replacing neutrophils which come from immature monocytes which are stored in spleen,
they secrete growth factors and cytokines which lead onto the next phase of the healing response
which is the proliferation phase (Frederic H. Martni, Judi L. Natch, Edwin F. Bartholomew, 2014).
The role of inflammation in tissue healing is to help to promote healing and create an environment
around the injured area that is optimal for the best healing time and for the best healing process to take
place. In order to complete this the body must remain in a balanced homeostasis, this being a level at
which the bodies temperature, blood pH and water balance are constant. Remaining at a balanced
homeostasis will mean that the inflammatory response is able to work effectively as it has the right
conditions in which to perform at its

Compare And Contrast Caged Bird And Sympathy
In the poem, Caged Bird , by Maya Angelou, and the poem Sympathy by Paul Laurence Dunbar, the
authors exemplify feelings of those being discriminated against in the actions and feelings of the birds.
The poets make contrasting and comparable stories, that relate in many ways and also contrast in
hidden but most important ways as well. The birds in the poems add morals and meaning by being so
alike and yet so different. The two authors description of the bird resemble one another. In the Caged
Bird , Maya Angelou discusses the state in which the Caged Bird is in. His wings are clipped and his
feet are tied (Angelou, 12,13). The Cage Bird in the is in pain and restrained from the freedom he
longs for. In Sympathy , Dunbar describes the Caged Bird in a very similar state. When his wings is
bruised and his bosom sore (Dunbar, 16). The bruising of the bird symbolizes physical restrainment,
but not mental. In both of the author s writing, Caged Bird is described in very similar manners; This
suggests that the two authors either have experienced being restrained from ... Show more content on

Economic Globalization- Life and Debt
Economic Globalization Life and Debt
The world is constantly becoming smaller and smaller as time progresses. A process of globalization is
rapidly turning the world as we know it into economic opportunity waiting to be exploited. A large
factor in this process is due to the advent of technology which is becoming more and more readily
available to lesser developed countries. Countries such as Jamaica and other LDC s are primary targets
of economic globalization. In the film Life and Debt by Stephanie Black, we see the effects
globalization has on Jamaican culture, industry, and agriculture.

The powered milk became such a commodity that the local produce dairy farms couldn t sell their
milk. A memorable scene in the film was when the dairy farmers had to spill out all their surplus milk
that was only a days worth to make room for new milk since it wasn t being consumed. A dairy farm
used to produce 3,000 quarts per day and after America subsidized the milk industry, dairy farms were
producing only about 600 liters. Dairy farmers were run out of their businesses and it s sad to say but
some dairy farmers were forced to convert to butchering their cows in order to make profit (Black).
The Jamaican economy in 1970 was 800 million dollars in debt and by the time of the year 2000 the
debt had reached an alarming 7 billion dollars. In order to service its accumulated debts Jamaica set up
Exporting Processing Zones or EPZ s. The free zones created lots of employment to jump start the
economy. The free zones themselves were separate entities to Jamaica, similar to the US owned

never really enter Jamaica, thus allowing for cheap imports. The factories had their downsides though.
Workers were only paid in Jamaican dollars about 30USD per week while some were paid that for two
weeks. Every two weeks, money was taken out as taxes which angered the Jamaicans

How Class Antagonisms Influence Life Online
How Class Antagonisms Influence Life Online In S. Craig Watkins essay, From The Young and the
Digital, he examines how class variances influence social networking usage according to modern day
times. With technology usage at an all time high, social media usage is sparking in popularity making
communication become more virtual than it has ever been. Many predicted that with this shift from
real face time to virtual face time, existing social inequalities would dissipate. However, this is not the
case. Watkins, a professor of radio, television, and film, suggests that a divide exists between both
race and class on social networking sites that parallels real world divides in social inequalities.
The topic of social class is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since high levels of education are often associated with higher levels of employment and income and,
in turn, are directly correlated with social class, lower class is linked to Myspace.
Watkins reasoned that social networking site preference relates to preservation of social class and
privilege. The way college students distinguish between social classes simply imitates the way they
distinguish social networking sites. It enables middle class cultures to not only reinforce their position
of privilege and taste, but also their social status, all through the use of specific social networking
sites. Watkins also suggests that the shift from Myspace to
Facebook it is directly correlated to a search for homogeneous people. It is natural human nature to
associate with like minded people. This has become ordinary in geographic sorting where the vast
majority of people choose to live with similar people who do not challenge their ethnic or social
prospects. Since social divisions of race, lifestyle, and ideology are already a commonplace, Watkins
suggests that social network sites are not to blame for causing these divisions. He states:
The vast majority of young people we meet go online to have fun by sharing their lives and
communicating with their peers. And yet, the choices they make regarding who they interact with
online are not immune to the social forces that are shaping their off line lives. Like the Big Sort, the
online sorting among young Facebook

Improving Sports At School Time
Many parents put special emphasis on learning math and natural science for their children than paying
attention to the importance of physical education. Even public schools do not allocate enough time for
kids to practice sports as much as they do for class based education. In fact, physical activity for
children is not only about pleasure time. Rather, it helps grown up children to extend their capacity to
grasp concepts explained in their classes. Children who are active while doing physical activity are
expected to be active at class time. Thus, encouraging sports at school time is essential for child
development not only for educational success but also for physical, social, mental, and moral
development(Griffin , 1998). Physical education helps kids to develop in many areas. Sports that
require collaboration between players can help them to grasp the importance of being a part of group
and how it is important to unify their effort with others to achieve certain goals. When it comes to
moral development, children will learn to accept that there are always winners and losers and it s not
wrong to be a loser. Moreover, since all kind of sports include competition, kids will have the chance
to be physically developed in an exciting atmosphere. All these benefits will positively affect students
outcome when they return to class. Therefore, public schools should consider physical activity as a
crucial component of their educational objectives(.Janssen and

Applying Operant Conditioning to Human Behaviour Essay
Applying Operant Conditioning to Human Behaviour
Operant conditioning is when a way of learning by consequence. To put it basic, an action which is
rewarded is more likely to be repeated, along with an action that is punished is less likely to be
repeated. To apply this to an example of human behaviour, young children may have shaped behaviour
due to operant conditioning; where desireable behaviour is rewarded (e.g. by giving a toy) the
behaviour is being positively reinforced and is likely to occur. If a young child behaves in an
undesirable way, then they may be punished (e.g. a toy being taken away from them) therefore this
behaviour is negatively reinforced and is less likely to reoccur. ... Show more content on

Observational learning is seeing what happens to other people and whether they are rewarded for their
behaviours, or punished for their behaviours. The imitative side to this is repeating the desirable
behaviour which was observed, or avoid repeating the undesirable behaviour. E.g. Kevin is walking
down a street and sees a gentleman drop his wallet on the floor without knowing. Somebody then
quickly picks up the wallet and runs and gives the gentleman the wallet, who then offers to buy the
person a drink for their help. This is a reward for the person, and Kevin would recognize this, and
learn from the occasion, even though Kevin was not directly reinforced. This is known as Vicarious
reinforcement, which is observing somebody else. However, if the behaviour of the person was
undesirable, such as they picked up the wallet and ran away, then Kevin is likely to see this as a lead
to punishment rather than reinforcement, and because of this, is less likely to imitate the behaviour.
Observational learning takes place around models, and the model in the example was the person who
picked up the wallet. The differences between Observational, Imitation learning, and the operant and
classical conditioning learning, is that operant and classical only relate to the single organism and its
responses

The elderly are abused and neglected in society today by caregivers in nursing homes. Elder abuse or
neglect is a single or repeated action occurring within any relationship where there is an overlook of

The method they use is a socio structural analysis through which . What this analysis is that they

theoretical aspects that explain the concerns of the elderly. It is thought if we discuss and have an
understanding of intergenerational perceptions through empirical and optimistic perceptions then we
have a better chance of understanding the concepts of the ageism. Is this a method you might try?
Why or why not? They might have different results, in being dependent on caregivers for support, and
society curbs various freedoms and when we are younger we have prestige, income employment and

and by the year 2050 there will be more elders than youth. As previously indicated, one possible
explanation for why older people may have come to be less valued than in the past is because they do
not offer as much value in modernized societies because they have not kept up the changes because
they are used to their old ways. The research that North and Fiske accomplished showed enough
evidence that our elderly are an inconvenienced youth at this time but not forever. What kind of
outcomes supported this conclusion? The conclusion made by the authors is that society s treatment of

Israel-Palestine
Israel Palestine
Introduction
In the absence of peace, there is conflict. This might lead to war between countries if conflict is not
handled carefully. Today it is almost a norm to see countries engaging others in war. Today the
greatest problem facing many nations is international relation. Countries have failed to live like decent
neighbors. There is disunity among many nations. War between nations is caused by mistrust and
tension. Nations purchase arms to stock their armory. Major inventions are made daily in out on
nuclear power and how to develop sophiscated weapons. This tries to explain the fact that countries
are always in mistrust of each other. It also explains that there is constant tension between countries

As times progressed there was an uprising in Lebanon as the Palestinian opposed Israel rule, In 1978
Palestine attacked Hezbollah. Israel felt invaded and led an offensive attack o Lebanon. Israel attacked
Lebanon and went as far as capturing Beirut. The prime target was to bomb Yasser Arafat locations.
During this invasion, Israel declared southern Lebanon as a security zone. During these attacks, there
were deaths on both sides. The greatest casualties were the children. Israel came to withdraw its
security forces from southern Lebanon in May 2000. Another serious crisis came to be in 1980s. This
was the intifada. A group of young Palestinians confronted Israeli troops with sling shots and stones.
The outcome was not acceptable and many of the youth were shot dead. To lay an offensive attack, the
Palestinians used suicide bombers to kill the Israeli troops. Many innocent civilians were killed from
both sides.
In 1993 the Oslo peace accord was made. In this accord Israel accepted to recognize the Palestinian
liberal organisation (PLO). They were also to give the PLO limited autonomy. The conditions were
that PLO were to end a Palestinian claims on Israel territory. The accord was met with different
reaction across the world. It was seen as a one sided accord which favored only the Israelites. The
accord gave Israel the control of land, water, roads and other resources. This accord was seen as only

Chronic Pain Research
Living with constant pain can be debilitating and it can be a huge detriment in one s life. Chronic pain
can impair an individual s ability to participate in almost every day life regimes. Research has shown
that chronic pain negatively impacts an individual s ability to maintain social connections (Lennon,
Link, Marbach, Dohrenwend, 1989), employment and ability to undertake activities of daily living
(Andersson, 1999). Chronic pain is significantly related to a range of mental health difficulties, as well
as reduced subjective well being. A meta analysis of chronic pain research suggests that there is an
interaction between a patient s symptoms of depression and the severity of their chronic pain (Tunks,
Crook, Weir, 2008), and that chronic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

a method that was established for the purpose of enabling health care professionals to pass on their

acupuncture, physiotherapy and physical exercise. This would transform what is now a solely
medically driven, pharmacologic approach to pain management into a patient centered,

The Pros And Cons Of Kerosene And Gasoline
Kerosene and Gasoline are energy sourcing fuels that are distilled from crude oil. Crude oil is raw
material consisting of many hydrocarbons, particularly 84 87% of carbon, 12 14% of hydrogen,
oxygen, nitrogen and sulphur (1 2%) (Simanzhenkov, 2003 ) Page 4. It s formed from fossil remains
obtained from reservoir s thousands of feet below the ground. There are 3 main groups of
hydrocarbons; paraffinic, naphthenic and aromatic hydrocarbons. The paraffinic series of
hydrocarbons have the general formula CnH(2n+2) and can be either be straight chains or branched
chains of carbon atoms. Naphthenic hydrocarbons have the formula CnH2n, with all bonds from
carbon to hydrogen being saturated. Naphthenic hydrocarbons are moderately stable compounds.
Aromatic hydrocarbons are cyclic compounds, that react readily since they have carbon atoms that are
deficient in hydrogen. All aromatic hydrocarbons have at least one benzene ring as part of their
molecular structure. (Simanzhenkov, 2003 ) Page 4,5,6. For Crude oil to be useful, these hydrocarbons
must be split into simpler compounds that can be used for energy source and fuel, the oil refining
process primarily involves distillation. The distillation process being used in this procedure is simple
distillation, this technique is generally used to separate substances in a mixture, whose boiling points
differ largely. It is generally used in the separation of volatile components of the mixture from the

Shark Finning Is Killing Sharks
Are you scared of sharks? Well, there is approximately 5 human deaths, shark related each year, but
over 100 million sharks are killed each year by humans. Who should really be scared? Shark finning is
killing sharks and decreasing their populations to a level where they may never fully recover.
Causes for this are fishermen shark finning at a very high rate and for consumers being oblivious to

humans cutting off their fin, also known as shark finning to make a Chinese delicacy called shark fin

The three stakeholders in the shark finning situation are the consumers and fishermen which believe
shark finning should not be banned and the environmentalists which believe shark finning should be

Portrayal of London in the Opening of Bleak House Essay
The first paragraph of Bleak House alone gives the reader an instant idea of how Charles Dickens saw
London to be around 1842. He has portrayed the streets to be muddy and extremely polluted, As much
mud in the streets as if the waters had but newly retired from the face of the earth. Here Dickens has
used a slight amount of Hyperbole to emphasize his point. He also uses personification when referring
to the snow flakes, saying that they have gone into mourning, ?smoke lowering down from the
chimneypots, making a soft black drizzle, with flakes of soot in it as big as full grown snowflakes?
gone into mourning, one might imagine, for the death of the sun.? the contrast of the imagery he is
using helps for the reader to imagine the scene, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also tells the reader that even outside London?s centre fog is still covering everything, ?Fog on the
Essex marshes, fog on the Kentish heights. Fog creeping into the cabooses of collier brigs?. Dickens
also uses fog to symbolize death and disease, ?Fog in the eyes and throats of ancient Greenwich
pensioners, wheezing by the firesides of their wards?. He makes the reader feel as if it is infecting and
killing the inhabitants of London, and gives the reader images. In my opinion Dickens is trying to
make the point that the fog is spreading and it is London?s fault that one day everywhere will be
covered and everyone will be cloaking on the mistakes London made. The reader is given the
impression that Dickens thinks that this is all the Governments fault. Right from the beginning the
Lord Chancellor is portrayed and lazy, ?Michaelmas term lately over. Lord Chancellor sitting in
Lincoln?s Inn Hall.? He then goes on to refer to Lincoln?s Inn Hall as ?at the very heart of the fog?
insinuating that the Lord Chancellor is the cause of the fog. He also says, ?Lord High Chancellor
ought to be sitting her?as here he is?with a foggy glory round his head, softly fenced in with a crimson
cloth and curtains.? Dickens is making the Lord Chancellor out to be very ignorant to the problems of
London and just engulfed in his own power. The fact that the Lord Chancellor has ?Crimson cloth and
curtains? gives the impression to

What Is The Mood Of The Poem Blackberry-Picking
In the poem Blackberry Picking, the author discusses the harshness of life by describing his
experience picking blackberries. While the poem is rather dark, he maintains the message that childish
hopes still exist despite the continual blockade of reality.
In the first stanza, Heaney describes the berry picking as a rather unimportant task. The blackberries
represent the hope and excitement that summer is: summer s blood was in it (6). The childish
hopefulness is expressed in the conversational tone, created by the syntax found within the rhythm.
The author organizes the sentences in a way that varies the stressed and unstressed syllable to keep the
experience of berry picking casual and light.
The rhyme scheme of AABB keeps a sense of organized structure throughout the poem.
The author often includes slant rhyme to eliminate the sing song pattern many poems have: for/hunger
(7 8).
The use of descriptive diction allows the reader to clearly visualize the experience. The clear imagery
of the berry s flesh (5) sweetened like thickened wine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is paradoxically established when the author says: all the lovely canfuls smelt of rot (23). The
hopes of sweet and lovely blackberries are destroyed by the inevitable decay of what was sweet and
satisfying in the berries. This grim picture of the destruction of the things we cherish enough to search
for even when wet grass bleached our boots (10), displays a depressing picture of the world around us.
Although human possessions, in this case the berries, do not live forever, the hope that goodness will
carry on is exhibited in the childish hopes that the berries will stay fresh despite the knowledge that
the berries themselves will

Encoding Specificity
Background
For the average college student, taking notes is pretty important because it is how information is
studied. If you where to observe a college classroom you would see people taking notes on paper,
computers, and tape recorders. When test time comes around, they are all on paper, this could have an
effect on testing performance. Encoding specificity principle could affect recall of information.
Explained by Tulving and Thomson (1973) the principle asserts that only that can be retrieved that has
been stored, and that how it can be retrieved depends on how it was stored . What they are saying is
information is retrieved best when context cues are present at the time of encoding and recall. Based
on this principle it is possible that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In that experiment they where testing recognition memory. A normal college test doesn t just test for
recognition memory, although this does demonstrate the limits of encoding specificity. While in other
studies they looked closely at recall and encoding specificity. They found that scuba divers recall more
words when the learning environment matched the testing environment (Godden and Baddeley 1975).
This shows that extrinsic context effects recall and supports the encoding specificity principle. The
medium of notes is a form of extrinsic context, like the environments, test score will be higher if the
medium of notes and test where to be congruent. In an experiment looking at associative memory
context, participants where presented a word or a word pair with strong or weak association, they then
had to recognize the words from a test list (Tulving, Thomson 1971). They summarized their results
saying, with availability of stored information held constant, recognition of a previously seen item
depends upon its context at the time of the test, recognition being higher if test context matches the
input context than if the input context is removed or altered. Here a different form of context aids
recognition memory. The medium of notes is not the same type of extrinsic context as the
environments from Duncan Godden and Alan Baddeley (1980) experiment on recognition memory on

The Disciplinary Area Of Arts Deals With A Wide Variety Of...
The disciplinary area of Arts deals with a wide variety of topics. Some typical examples include
paintings, sculptures, music, and literature. This paper most directly deals with the literature aspect as
it compares the themes featured in the two novels that were introduced in the HC 100 class. While
both Robert Kurson s Pirate Hunters and A.G. Riddle s The Atlantis Gene contain similar themes such
as choices, fear, persistence, and exploration, they differ due to the fact that Pirate Hunters focuses
mainly on personal discovery, whereas The Atlantis Gene emphasizes on more generalized and
important themes like power, secrets, and making sacrifices to help others.
The two novels are similar in the aspect that they both include themes of fear, persistence, exploration,
dedication, and making choices. In Pirate Hunters, Mattera searched as many files as he could in the
General Archive of the Indies in Seville, Spain, but he still could not find any mention of Bannister
and his ship, The Golden Fleece. At this point, Mattera said that now it seemed he was running out of
light (Kurson 110). This is one example that expresses the themes of dedication, choice, and
exploration in Pirate Hunters. Mattera felt inclined to give up; he was stumped, and he had to make a
choice. Mattera s dedication to the cause of exploration is what influenced his decision to remain on
his quest. His perseverance shines through this decision and shows the readers how truly dedicated he

Futility of Human Existence Exposed in The Guest by...
He who despairs of the human condition is a coward, but he who has hope for it is a fool (Wyatt). As
this quote by Albert Camus suggests, he was not a very optimistic writer. His gloomy look on life
itself can be seen all too clearly in The Guest . The story itself deals with Camus s idea of the futility
of human existence: the only rational thing anyone can expect is death. Camus s underlying
philosophy is revealed from the very beginning of the story. The French title, L hote , translates to
mean both guest and host simultaneously, which implies that the mutually respectful relationship
between the main characters in the story should be applied to mankind everywhere. The story begins

When Daru asks the prisoner whether he was afraid, he replies by turning his eyes away. When Daru
asks whether he is sorry for the crime he has committed, the Arab stares at him as if he does not
comprehend the words. However, he understands completely the situation that he is in, thus showing
that it is Daru who cannot comprehend why the Arab has murdered his cousin. The history of this
racial conflict dates back to when the French first colonized Algeria. Algeria has undergone many
years of ethnic strife; the French, though they are the minority, dominate the large Arab population.
This clash is further exacerbated by the lack of cultural understanding between the two groups. Daru
cannot fathom a plausible reason for murdering a cousin over a debt of grain. Upon hearing of the
crime, he feels a sudden wrath against the man, against all men with their rotten spite, their tireless
hates, their blood lusts. What he has not taken into account is that it may be perfectly acceptable to the
Arab to kill a relative rather than lose his honor (Thody). Islamic law leaves private [family] matters
alone, but the French view their system as innately superior. Growing up in post colonized Algeria,
Camus was heavily influenced by the conflict between the Europeans and the Arabs. He was torn
within himself: he sympathized with the Muslim population, yet was unable to forgo his ties to the
French. Though he supported pacifism as an end to racially driven conflicts, he could

Functions And Relationship With Age And The Mutations...
Telomeric Functions and Relationship with Age and the Mutations Affecting Children with
Hutchinson Gilford Progeria Syndrome (HGPS)
Author: Monica Peña
Introduction
Telomeres function as a means of protection for chromosomes. In DNA replication, the telomeres of a
chromosome cannot be replicated, resulting in chromosomes becoming shortened over time (Vidak,
2016). This characteristic of telomeres gives great insight to the importance of functions of telomerase
and telomeres on chromosomes, the impact telomeres have on aging, and the origin of RNA in
telomerase. Telomere functionality and defects in regulation can also give great understanding to
aging diseases in children such as Hutchinson Gilford progeria syndrome (HGPS).
Functions of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When telomeric length reaches a level where it is too short, the cell undergoes senescence and/or
apoptosis (Pierce, 2012). Telomerase prevents this cell death from occurring.
During DNA replication, DNA polymerase is unable to replicate the 3 end of linear chromosomes
because replication can only proceed in the 5 to 3 direction and requires a primer (Garavis, 2013).
Telomerase is able to recognize the presence of the G rich repeat sequence. It elongates he strand in
the 5 to 3 direction and adds additional repeats, using the RNA template in the enzyme as it moves
past the template strand. DNA polymerase, which carries a DNA primase as one of its subunits,
completes the lagging strand. This step successfully completes original information at the ends of
linear chromosomes (Garland Science, 2009). Without telomerase, telomeres would shorten, resulting
in aging. The shortening of telomeres as a person ages leads to higher likelihood of heart disease, bone
problems, cancer, and the more obvious, aged skin (Chojnowski, 2015). This process can be observed
in Figure 1. Figure 1: Represents a step by step process of the function of telomerase in DNA
replication. In the first step, the G rich strand can be seen. Telomerase uses its RNA component

Essay On Gentrification Of Venice
This paper assesses the evolution and impact of gentrification on a beautiful beachside neighborhood
known as Venice over the past two decades. Due to the fact that I ve spent a fairly good amount of my
time throughout Venice, I have a great sense of the community and the culture. But this community
had gone through a lot, one being gentrification. Before gentrification, Venice had a very natural
society, accepting everyone for who they are. Venice was and frankly still is a beautiful place to go for
a jog or hang out with friends on the beach. However, the cost to live there has soared through the
roof. Merely renting an office in Venice has doubled since 2011 with the average cost of renting a two
bed room apartment falling slightly north of five thousand dollars (Dave). Gentrification happened in
Venice ultimately very quickly, causing rapid change in the culture and the overall lifestyle of its long
term residents. Venice, some consider, is the nicest area in Los Angeles, due to its ethnic community

There are many issues with the current copyright laws that exist in the Canada and the United States
today. Many critics of these laws like, Creative Commons founder Lawrence Lessig; believe that
current copyright laws only exist to protect entrenched, and often uncreative interests at the expense of
everyone else. (Plotkin) In the United States, back in 1790, copyright extended for 14 years after the
document was published, and then for another 14 years if the author was still alive. (Plotkin) Today
copyright laws in the US have been lengthened to 70 years after the death of the author, which means
that companies can withhold releasing works into the public domain for almost a century. (Plotkin) In
Canada copyright laws are similar, but instead of 70 years after death, an authors works are released
into the public domain 50 years after their death. (Harris) Lessig has stated in interviews that current
copyright and patent practices are contrary to the reason why they were developed in the first place.

Unnatural Events In Macbeth Essay
Macbeth, a once courageous warrior, consequently became a tyrant dictating over the people of
Scotland. His tragic flaw, ambition, forces him to become power hungry leading to his decision to
murder King Duncan. This sends the kingdom into an immediate spiral of unnatural events and
eventually leads to an upset of political and social discombobulation. The severed link between King
Duncan and God ultimately changes the kingdom of Scotland from a prosperous country into a
kingdom ruled by fear. Macbeth, a thrilling tragedy, is more than a tragic play, but rather a story of
ramifications caused by the severed link between God and King Duncan, which is shown through
unnatural events, social upset, and political reign. Directly after the ... Show more content on

This power, Macbeth gains leads to his intense paranoia, which eventually deteriorates his entire
persona. Macbeth begins to hire murders to kill anyone who questions him or is seen as a threat to the
king. This leads to many deaths such as Banquo, Macduff s family, and more. During the murder of
Banquo, his son Fleance escapes and the news that there s one down, [and] the son fled travels to
Macbeth making him even more paranoid (pg 97). Later he proceeds to hire another set of murders to
kill Macduff s entire family, in order to stop him from trying to overthrow him. Macbeth becomes
very violent and the entire kingdom of Scotland slips into uneasiness. The people of Scotland become
sacred and anxious that Scotland is not a safe country, negatively affecting the social aspect of the
kingdom. With everyone on the edge of the next turn of events, Macbeth s reign alters the community
s perspective of the Thane of Cawdor. With the entire country of Scotland submerged in fear, Macbeth
does a poor job of dealing with politics. Once he becomes the Thane of Cawdor he does not deal with
political issues in the correct manner. With his spontaneous actions he is quick to solve issues with
violence and murder rather than logical solutions. Macbeth s lack of political reign proves to be very
disheartening for Scotland. In one instance when Malcom and Macduff are talking about the hurt
Macbeth is causing Scotland, Malcom

What Is The Doctrine Of Double Effect
The Doctrine of Double Effect is the process in which someone must sacrifice some bad to achieve
more good. According to Alison McIntyre of the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy (2014) defines
the concept as The doctrine (or principle) of double effect is often invoked to explain the
permissibility of an action that causes a serious harm, such as the death of a human being, as a side
effect of promoting some good end . This is often referred to in the military as collateral damage .
While your goal is to not have any unintended casualties, if the threat is so great that you must take the
chance and harm civilians, you take it. Thomas Scanlon s view on the Doctrine of Double Effect is
that it is never justified to take a life regardless of the good that may come of it (Lippert Rasmussen
Kasper, 2010). Scanlon s view is that the concept is black and white. There is no area in between to
justify even the possibility of a means to an end type of thought. ... Show more content on

The doctor has the medication to cure the disease except that the patient is an organ donor match for
five other patients. The doctor chooses to let the patient die in order to use the organs of that patient to
potentially cure the other five. This is an example of the Doctrine of Double Effect due to the doctor
making a decision to allow the first patient to die in order to potentially save the other five. In the
doctor s mind, potentially saving five people is more necessary than surely saving the one patient. It is
very similar to playing a game where odds come in to

High Stakes Testing Case Study
Despite of the policymakers efforts to implement strategies in order to evaluate and enhance special
education effectiveness, the high stakes testing system has several negative consequences to students,
as shown at Pazey et. al. study The More Things Change, the More They Stay the Same: Comparing
Special Education Students Experiences of Accountability Reform Across Two Decades . This
qualitative case study interviewed 12 especial education students, half in 1995 and the other half 2012,
after the introduction of the testing system and, later on, following two decades of implementation.
According to this research, exceptional students felt marginalized when assigned to separated test
preparation classes, when they failed the exams. In addition,

My Reflection
This lesson was the first one I did during practicum week and I thought it went very well. I did this
lesson in the morning pretty much after calendar time. We had to wait a couple minutes for some of
the students to get back from extra reading practice. When I went up to the front of the room a lot of
the students got excited. Considering I was somebody new, they thought it would be fun for me to
teach them. I first asked the students what long vowel sounds they have been working on and almost
all of the students raised their hands. I was very proud of the fact that I did not have any trouble with
names when I was calling on them. I started the lesson with those questions in order to get them ready
for the lesson, it was a quick warm up in order to start thinking about what we will be doing. Next I
told the students what we would be doing and that we will be working with the white boards and I
dismissed the students by their table groups, which are North, South and West. This worked really
well and made it so there wasn t a huge cluster around the white boards. The time that I allotted for the
students getting the materials was perfect. I was still able to keep them engaged and it made it efficient
so no extra time was wasted on getting the white boards. When I started to go through the long a
sounds I just had the students shout that those out. This class has spent a lot of time on that sound and
I knew the students were very knowledgeable in that long vowel. I felt

Depression
Attribution Theory and Depression
Mike E. Calderin
Christopher Newport
Attribution Theory and Depression Baron, Branscombe, and Byrne (2009) explain the attribution
theory as not wanting to just know how ourselves and others act, but why we and others act that way.
People assign attributes or reasons to why something happens to better perceive, justify, and
understand why people act the way they do. The Attribution Theory can be applied to many different
areas of peoples lives. In recent years the attribution theory has been applied to different areas
including Depression (Baron, Branscombe, Byrne, 2009). According to the Mayo Clinic Staff
depression is defined as, a medical illness that causes a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The interesting thing about his findings is that this attitude affected further performance on later tests
that were different. Just like self fulfilling prophecy; if you are of the mindset you won t do well then
you probably will not.
Different therapies have come about in an attempt to help depressed individuals change their mindset
and stop engaging in self deprecating thoughts. The Attribution retraining (AR) therapy is one of the
techniques under the umbrella of cognitive behaviors. AR attempts to treat depressed individuals
negative thoughts and behaviors by changing the explanations for problems and symptoms. AR has
become popular and heavily researched in China because it is shorter and easily applied (Wang, et. al.,
2011) Depression is easy to target with attribution theory because it can be individualized to the
patients need and target the negative outcomes specifically. AR therapy targets the negative
attributions by supplying alternative explanations that are more healthy attributions (Wang et. al.,
2011). By offering a healthy alternative explanation the depressed person begins to make sense and
not feel so out of control of their life. This may also lead to a quick way for depressed individuals to
assess what is really happening and why they perceive the situation so negatively. This goes back to
the many different facets of depression. By targeting where the negative perceptions are coming from

Elderly Patients Communication
10 Tips for Nurses for Effective Communication with Elderly Patients
Effective communication facilitates positive patient outcomes. [1] When caring for senior patients,
this might involve providing for certain issues. Older patients may have multiple conditions, such as
hearing loss, vision impairment, dementia, or Alzheimer s disease. Additionally, providers may have
to address sensitive topics, such as end of life care.
When treating the elderly, it s important not to make assumptions about patients abilities and take the
time to understand the conditions and circumstance that are unique to each client; patients may or may
not suffered from age related impairments. While the following tips might appear time consuming at

Praying For Sheetrock By Melissa Fay Greene
Praying for Sheetrock by Melissa Fay Greene is the recount of McIntosh County citizen s lives during
the 1970s. The two focal characters with power are McIntosh s Sheriff Tom Poppell and Thurnell
Alston. Throughout the novel Greene illustrates the link between a persons strive for power and their
strong political influence. Greene also outlines the burdens that the black community endured until
they ultimately earned a spot for Thurnell as County Commission. As a poor black man, Thurnell s
ultimate undoing was his failure to acknowledge his limitations and instead always tried to exceed the
black community s expectations. Even though the black community fights for equal representation and
their civil rights, they are not the main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Only a few people controlled the county and they had utilized their time ensuring that as a race [they]
should stay in [their] place as one black citizen put it. Even though the black community had power in
their numbers, the white community managed all the businesses... and they filled every professional
office . Civil Rights activists were looked up to but the thought of equal representation was not
possible at the time in Darien until March of 1972. The black community soon found its breakthrough
in their fight for civil rights when the racial barrier was violently crossed one night. It would still take
time for their voices to be truly heard from someone who did not fall under the influence of Sheriff
Tom Poppell.
After his father s passing Tom Poppell was able to secure his thirty one year reign as sheriff and rule
the county with a strong iron fist. His endless rule allowed him the opportunity to exert his will and
shape the county the way he imagined in order to keep both races separate. The thrill for power over
the county was the sole motivator in his line of work. He worked on his own time, lived by his own
law, and McIntosh s citizens acknowledged his dominance by stating you weren t scared when you
saw him coming, but you could feel the power when he was nearby. This power is without a doubt
evident and it is the reason the majority of the citizens idolized Poppell.
The power he receives from the town s people constantly

Reasons for Devotion to Hindu Goddesses
Reasons for devotion to Hindu goddesses Hinduism portrays feminine divinity in a more exalted way
than most other religions do. Though Hindu goddesses are usually depicted as consorts, wives or
companions to a Hindu god, cases exist in which they are worshipped independently; Tantrism for
example, where it is believed that women posses more spiritual power than men, thus men can achieve
divinity through union with a woman ( Tantrism ). Most villages reinforce the mother aspect of
goddesses and worship them individually as their protector, regarding them as having originated in the
area and thus being tied to the health and prosperity of the village (Caldwell). Others who may devote
themselves to a goddess might be in order to conquer or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kali then proceeds to kill all the asuras in a frenzied manner, later offering the heads of their leaders
Chanda and Munda to Durga. Her second appearance is in the follow chapter, where she battles
Raktabija, and assures success by sucking all of his blood so he could not reproduce anymore, per
Durga s command, while she slayed him ( Devimahatmya ch. 7 8). Another myth ties Kali with
Parvati, telling of an army of demons that threatens the safety of the world. Men cannot slay them, and
so Shiva calls for his wife to aid them in battle. Parvati accepts the responsibility, swallowing the
poison stored in Shiva s throat and morphing into Kali. However, she becomes too drunk with the
poison and, after defeating all the demons, threatens to destroy the world herself with her berserk
dance. In an attempt to subdue his wife, Shiva then lays on the floor in front of Kali, who in her
delirious state does not notice his presence and steps on him. Shamed that she had showed such
disgraceful behavior, she bites her tongue in humiliation. The last scene of the above tale is illustrated
in a lot of imagery, and while the tale itself has a lot of variations, many Hindus will arrive at the same
resolution. It is in this perception that many contradictions lie. Another question rises, What does Kali
s tongue biting really mean? Most Hindus will claim that it is to show shame, which is what the action
means in Bengali culture,

  • 2. The Benefits of Organic Foods Benefits of Organic Foods Introduction: In spite of the fact that organic foods have been proved to have a better effect on people s health in comparison to conventional foods served in supermarkets, the fact that people continue to buy their food without expressing interest in its provenience makes it possible for one to understand that the masses have failed to comprehend the full complexity of the problem at hand. People need to understand that the You are what you eat expression applies perfectly in their case and that it is essential for them to get actively involved in creating lifestyles that reflect positively on their health. Even with this, I have trouble determining whether or not organic foods are actually very important when considering nutrition. Body: Organic foods from a global perspective dealing with profits and trends Recent advancements in the medical world have made it possible for the masses to resort to taking medicine whenever they feel ill. As a consequence, people came to consider that pills are the answer to unhealthy diets and that they thus no longer require buying organic foods in order to live healthier. It is thus essential to determine whether it would be more effective for individuals to stick to traditional foods sold in non specialized shops or if it would be better for them to focus on consuming organic foods only. Individuals in the contemporary society follow a trend by expressing interest in buying organic foods and retailers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Ludwig Van Beethoven s Life Ludwig van Beethoven Ludwig van Beethoven was a tremendous musician and composer with a awfully long and tough life.He had a challenging childhood, but he used his music as his outlet. He moved from his home town in Bonn, which is now a museum, and became well known throughout the world. He lived in Europe when everything was changing, there were a lot of new wars and new rulers. He used a great deal of emotions in this music and because of all the time that he had spent practicing, when his hearing was lost his music was still considered to be incredible. People from his time and the present time see him as a genius. Beethoven was born in Bonn, Germany approximately in December of 1770.There is no recorded date of Beethoven s exact birth, but it is known that it is in December. This was an appropriate time for Beethoven to be born, it was receptive and ready to welcome a genius who would change everything. His parents produced seven children, but only four of them lived to adulthood. Only Ludwig and his two younger brothers remained. In school it is said that he was a shy, taciturn, serious young man. That he was enclosed in himself and extremely peevish with people (Marek 39). School turned out to not be so clear for young Beethoven as he chose to drop out when he was eleven, this resulted in him never learning to spell, do math, or write well. Although, he did learn French, Latin, and Italian. This was around 1780 and was when he began to compose pieces, one of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Downfall of the U.S. Auto Market and the Collapse of the Economy Unemployment is rising and the entire global economy is falling. The story has become all too common. If there is a negative direction available to follow, we re definitely taking advantage of the opportunity. Americans became too accustomed to the period of inflation through the 1990s, and the ongoing recession is affecting most everyone. The Big Three automakers (GM, Ford and Chrysler) have made massive cuts to their workforces, and the entire national job market has been upended. My personal life has been greatly distorted due to these events, after Delphi (contracted by GM) outsourced most of their jobs and shut down 21 of their 29 plants in the US. In previous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 2008 and 2009, a series of bailouts were provided to General Motors and Chrysler, due to slowing car sales and massive quarterly losses. Unions buckled due to the fact that they received much higher wages, and more luxurious benefits than their non unionized counterparts. In 2006, Consumer Reports top ten car picks were Japanese (Noe). Parts makers were quick to move jobs overseas, where laborers were willing to work for much less money. In 2008, GM closed 14 factories, 2,000 dealers, and cut 47,000 employees. All of these factors, among numerous more, were responsible for the collapse of the economy on a national and global scale. Gasoline prices soared during the energy crisis which lasted from 2003 2008. Consumers moved from buying SUV s and trucks to more fuel efficient cars, such as hybrids. This was especially disconcerting considering that these larger vehicles were the most profitable for the automakers (MSNBC). The market which was hardest hit was that of the parts makers, which saw their cash flow cut in half, since automakers were rushing to cut production (Economist). GM filed for bankruptcy 32 days after Chrysler, effectively making GM the fourth largest company ever to file for bankruptcy (Carty). According to Darwin Bible, probably one of the worst things about it has been watching all the stress on workers faces and their families faces (Carty). Overall mental health is rapidly ... • 5. Isolation, Loneliness And Symbolism In Hands, By Sherwood... Symbolism is very crucial in literature, especially in short fiction. In the short story Hands, by Sherwood Anderson, Anderson gives a perfect example of symbolism. In the story Hands, Anderson uses symbolism of the hands of Wing Biddlebaum to show the meaning of the story. Anderson explores the theme of isolation and loneliness, through the symbolization of Wing s hands. By Anderson writing Hands is showing how the protagonist hands symbolizes the many ways of him feeling isolated and lonely in Ohio. How BFI Meets the Requirements of Health Promotion The main focus of the Baby Friendly Initiative strategy is to promote successful breastfeeding and support the mother through out the process (Pound Unger, 2017). This strategy encourages mothers to breastfeed for at least up to 6 months (Pound Unger, 2017). Prenatal teaching programs have limited number of staff to provide teaching prenatal teaching (Cadwell Turner Maffei, 2004). Immediate Postpartum assessments have become a priority before breastfeeding (Cadwell Turner Maffei, 2004). This is preventing the BFI focus of mother and baby bonding and breastfeeding right after birth, because important that the mother and the baby bonds for the first hour after birth (BCC, 2012). The health care workers have limited time with each patient, due to this reason conducting assessment and patient teaching is limited (Cadwell Turner Maffei, 2004). Patient s misconceptions about complications of breastfeeding may discourage them from accessing the BFI program (Cadwell Turner Maffei, 2004). Different cultural practises can dis courage mother from accessing or following the BFI (Cadwell Turner Maffei, 2004). Anthem, Rand s dystopian novella, is about us, and about what will happen if we do not follow alongside Equality 7 2521 and Liberty 5 3000 in their discovery of the importance of individualism. In Prometheus the Greek Titan and Equality s epics, both bring some kind of fire down from the heavens to his fellow men Prometheus, by trickery, stole fire itself, while Equality discovered and developed electricity and the light bulb. Though what they did was paramount, both were punished for their egoistic, creative actions Prometheus by the almighty Zeus, Equality by the World Council of Scholars. Upon discovering the nature of selfhood and the many texts in the house of the Unmentionable Times, Equality employs, for himself, a just, individual name: I have read of a man who lived many thousands of years ago, and of all the names in these books, his is the one I wish to bear. He took the light of the gods and he brought it to men...His name was Prometheus (98 9). The phases that the body goes through are; the bleeding phase, the inflammatory phase, the proliferation phase and the remodelling phase, each of these phases happen at a specific time within the recovery after the injury. The neutrophils are attracted by fibronectine and growth factors which leads to them performing their role of phagocytosis. Phagocytosis allows the neutrophils to engulf all the debris and bacteria that are in and surround the site therefore getting rid of foreign particles and allow a clean environment for the inflammation to being to happen. As a result of the phagocytosis happening this then leads to macrophages replacing neutrophils which come from immature monocytes which are stored in spleen, they secrete growth factors and cytokines which lead onto the next phase of the healing response which is the proliferation phase (Frederic H. The role of inflammation in tissue healing is to help to promote healing and create an environment around the injured area that is optimal for the best healing time and for the best healing process to take place. In order to complete this the body must remain in a balanced homeostasis, this being a level at which the bodies temperature, blood pH and water balance are constant. Compare And Contrast Caged Bird And Sympathy In the poem, Caged Bird , by Maya Angelou, and the poem Sympathy by Paul Laurence Dunbar, the authors exemplify feelings of those being discriminated against in the actions and feelings of the birds. The poets make contrasting and comparable stories, that relate in many ways and also contrast in hidden but most important ways as well. The birds in the poems add morals and meaning by being so alike and yet so different. The two authors description of the bird resemble one another. In the Caged Bird , Maya Angelou discusses the state in which the Caged Bird is in. His wings are clipped and his feet are tied (Angelou, 12,13). The Cage Bird in the is in pain and restrained from the freedom he longs for. In Sympathy , Dunbar describes the Caged Bird in a very similar state. When his wings is bruised and his bosom sore (Dunbar, 16). The bruising of the bird symbolizes physical restrainment, but not mental. A process of globalization is rapidly turning the world as we know it into economic opportunity waiting to be exploited. Countries such as Jamaica and other LDC s are primary targets of economic globalization. The free zones themselves were separate entities to Jamaica, similar to the US owned cemetery for the WW2 soldiers in Normandy. In this way, the supplies needed for manufacturing never really enter Jamaica, thus allowing for cheap imports. The factories had their downsides though. Craig Watkins essay, From The Young and the Digital, he examines how class variances influence social networking usage according to modern day times. With technology usage at an all time high, social media usage is sparking in popularity making communication become more virtual than it has ever been. Many predicted that with this shift from real face time to virtual face time, existing social inequalities would dissipate. However, this is not the case. Watkins, a professor of radio, television, and film, suggests that a divide exists between both race and class on social networking sites that parallels real world divides in social inequalities. The topic of social class is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since high levels of education are often associated with higher levels of employment and income and, in turn, are directly correlated with social class, lower class is linked to Myspace. Watkins reasoned that social networking site preference relates to preservation of social class and privilege. The way college students distinguish between social classes simply imitates the way they distinguish social networking sites. It enables middle class cultures to not only reinforce their position of privilege and taste, but also their social status, all through the use of specific social networking sites. Watkins also suggests that the shift from Myspace to Facebook it is directly correlated to a search for homogeneous people. It is natural human nature to associate with like minded people. This has become ordinary in geographic sorting where the vast majority of people choose to live with similar people who do not challenge their ethnic or social prospects. Since social divisions of race, lifestyle, and ideology are already a commonplace, Watkins suggests that social network sites are not to blame for causing these divisions. He states: The vast majority of young people we meet go online to have fun by sharing their lives and communicating with their peers. And yet, the choices they make regarding who they interact with online are not immune to the social forces that are shaping their off line lives. • 16. Improving Sports At School Time Many parents put special emphasis on learning math and natural science for their children than paying attention to the importance of physical education. Even public schools do not allocate enough time for kids to practice sports as much as they do for class based education. In fact, physical activity for children is not only about pleasure time. Rather, it helps grown up children to extend their capacity to grasp concepts explained in their classes. Children who are active while doing physical activity are expected to be active at class time. Thus, encouraging sports at school time is essential for child development not only for educational success but also for physical, social, mental, and moral development(Griffin , 1998). Physical education helps kids to develop in many areas. Sports that require collaboration between players can help them to grasp the importance of being a part of group and how it is important to unify their effort with others to achieve certain goals. When it comes to moral development, children will learn to accept that there are always winners and losers and it s not wrong to be a loser. Moreover, since all kind of sports include competition, kids will have the chance to be physically developed in an exciting atmosphere. All these benefits will positively affect students outcome when they return to class. Therefore, public schools should consider physical activity as a crucial component of their educational objectives(.Janssen and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Applying Operant Conditioning to Human Behaviour Essay Applying Operant Conditioning to Human Behaviour Operant conditioning is when a way of learning by consequence. To put it basic, an action which is rewarded is more likely to be repeated, along with an action that is punished is less likely to be repeated. To apply this to an example of human behaviour, young children may have shaped behaviour due to operant conditioning; where desireable behaviour is rewarded (e.g. by giving a toy) the behaviour is being positively reinforced and is likely to occur. If a young child behaves in an undesirable way, then they may be punished (e.g. a toy being taken away from them) therefore this behaviour is negatively reinforced and is less likely to reoccur. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Observational learning is seeing what happens to other people and whether they are rewarded for their behaviours, or punished for their behaviours. The imitative side to this is repeating the desirable behaviour which was observed, or avoid repeating the undesirable behaviour. E.g. Kevin is walking down a street and sees a gentleman drop his wallet on the floor without knowing. Somebody then quickly picks up the wallet and runs and gives the gentleman the wallet, who then offers to buy the person a drink for their help. This is a reward for the person, and Kevin would recognize this, and learn from the occasion, even though Kevin was not directly reinforced. This is known as Vicarious reinforcement, which is observing somebody else. However, if the behaviour of the person was undesirable, such as they picked up the wallet and ran away, then Kevin is likely to see this as a lead to punishment rather than reinforcement, and because of this, is less likely to imitate the behaviour. Observational learning takes place around models, and the model in the example was the person who picked up the wallet. The differences between Observational, Imitation learning, and the operant and classical conditioning learning, is that operant and classical only relate to the single organism and its responses ... Naphthenic hydrocarbons have the formula CnH2n, with all bonds from carbon to hydrogen being saturated. Naphthenic hydrocarbons are moderately stable compounds. Aromatic hydrocarbons are cyclic compounds, that react readily since they have carbon atoms that are deficient in hydrogen. All aromatic hydrocarbons have at least one benzene ring as part of their molecular structure. (Simanzhenkov, 2003 ) Page 4,5,6. While the poem is rather dark, he maintains the message that childish hopes still exist despite the continual blockade of reality. In the first stanza, Heaney describes the berry picking as a rather unimportant task. The blackberries represent the hope and excitement that summer is: summer s blood was in it (6). The childish hopefulness is expressed in the conversational tone, created by the syntax found within the rhythm. The author organizes the sentences in a way that varies the stressed and unstressed syllable to keep the experience of berry picking casual and light. The rhyme scheme of AABB keeps a sense of organized structure throughout the poem. The author often includes slant rhyme to eliminate the sing song pattern many poems have: for/hunger (7 8). If you where to observe a college classroom you would see people taking notes on paper, computers, and tape recorders. When test time comes around, they are all on paper, this could have an effect on testing performance. Encoding specificity principle could affect recall of information. Explained by Tulving and Thomson (1973) the principle asserts that only that can be retrieved that has been stored, and that how it can be retrieved depends on how it was stored . What they are saying is information is retrieved best when context cues are present at the time of encoding and recall. Based on this principle it is possible that ... While in other studies they looked closely at recall and encoding specificity. They found that scuba divers recall more words when the learning environment matched the testing environment (Godden and Baddeley 1975). This shows that extrinsic context effects recall and supports the encoding specificity principle. The medium of notes is a form of extrinsic context, like the environments, test score will be higher if the medium of notes and test where to be congruent. In an experiment looking at associative memory context, participants where presented a word or a word pair with strong or weak association, they then had to recognize the words from a test list (Tulving, Thomson 1971). They summarized their results saying, with availability of stored information held constant, recognition of a previously seen item depends upon its context at the time of the test, recognition being higher if test context matches the input context than if the input context is removed or altered. Some typical examples include paintings, sculptures, music, and literature. This paper most directly deals with the literature aspect as it compares the themes featured in the two novels that were introduced in the HC 100 class. While both Robert Kurson s Pirate Hunters and A.G. Riddle s The Atlantis Gene contain similar themes such as choices, fear, persistence, and exploration, they differ due to the fact that Pirate Hunters focuses mainly on personal discovery, whereas The Atlantis Gene emphasizes on more generalized and important themes like power, secrets, and making sacrifices to help others. The two novels are similar in the aspect that they both include themes of fear, persistence, exploration, dedication, and making choices. In Pirate Hunters, Mattera searched as many files as he could in the General Archive of the Indies in Seville, Spain, but he still could not find any mention of Bannister and his ship, The Golden Fleece. The history of this racial conflict dates back to when the French first colonized Algeria. Algeria has undergone many years of ethnic strife; the French, though they are the minority, dominate the large Arab population. Telomeric Functions and Relationship with Age and the Mutations Affecting Children with Hutchinson Gilford Progeria Syndrome (HGPS) Author: Monica Peña Introduction Telomeres function as a means of protection for chromosomes. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When telomeric length reaches a level where it is too short, the cell undergoes senescence and/or apoptosis (Pierce, 2012). Telomerase prevents this cell death from occurring. During DNA replication, DNA polymerase is unable to replicate the 3 end of linear chromosomes because replication can only proceed in the 5 to 3 direction and requires a primer (Garavis, 2013). Telomerase is able to recognize the presence of the G rich repeat sequence. It elongates he strand in the 5 to 3 direction and adds additional repeats, using the RNA template in the enzyme as it moves past the template strand. DNA polymerase, which carries a DNA primase as one of its subunits, completes the lagging strand. This step successfully completes original information at the ends of linear chromosomes (Garland Science, 2009). Without telomerase, telomeres would shorten, resulting in aging. The shortening of telomeres as a person ages leads to higher likelihood of heart disease, bone problems, cancer, and the more obvious, aged skin (Chojnowski, 2015). This process can be observed in Figure 1. Figure 1: Represents a step by step process of the function of telomerase in DNA replication. In the first step, the G rich strand can be seen. Such critics have perceived a rather new, arrogant girl showing up, one who even finds it gallant to be compared to Rushdie and has developed a sense of inverted show for all that. Yet, she remains a Kottayam girl. The sense of moral uprightness of a Christian community seeps through in her book. The God of Small Things is an autobiographical type of novel. The character of Ammu in the novel represents Mrs. Mary Roy, Arundhati Roy s mother Ammu is a South Indian lady. She has married a Bengali man with Roy surname. • 36. Essay On Gentrification Of Venice This paper assesses the evolution and impact of gentrification on a beautiful beachside neighborhood known as Venice over the past two decades. Due to the fact that I ve spent a fairly good amount of my time throughout Venice, I have a great sense of the community and the culture. But this community had gone through a lot, one being gentrification. Before gentrification, Venice had a very natural society, accepting everyone for who they are. Venice was and frankly still is a beautiful place to go for a jog or hang out with friends on the beach. However, the cost to live there has soared through the roof. Merely renting an office in Venice has doubled since 2011 with the average cost of renting a two bed room apartment falling slightly north of five thousand dollars (Dave). Gentrification happened in Venice ultimately very quickly, causing rapid change in the culture and the overall lifestyle of its long term residents. According to Alison McIntyre of the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy (2014) defines the concept as The doctrine (or principle) of double effect is often invoked to explain the permissibility of an action that causes a serious harm, such as the death of a human being, as a side effect of promoting some good end . We had to wait a couple minutes for some of the students to get back from extra reading practice. When I went up to the front of the room a lot of the students got excited. Considering I was somebody new, they thought it would be fun for me to teach them. I first asked the students what long vowel sounds they have been working on and almost all of the students raised their hands. I was very proud of the fact that I did not have any trouble with names when I was calling on them. I started the lesson with those questions in order to get them ready for the lesson, it was a quick warm up in order to start thinking about what we will be doing. Next I told the students what we would be doing and that we will be working with the white boards and I dismissed the students by their table groups, which are North, South and West. This worked really well and made it so there wasn t a huge cluster around the white boards. The time that I allotted for the students getting the materials was perfect. I was still able to keep them engaged and it made it efficient so no extra time was wasted on getting the white boards. People assign attributes or reasons to why something happens to better perceive, justify, and understand why people act the way they do. The Attribution Theory can be applied to many different areas of peoples lives. Different therapies have come about in an attempt to help depressed individuals change their mindset and stop engaging in self deprecating thoughts. The Attribution retraining (AR) therapy is one of the techniques under the umbrella of cognitive behaviors. AR attempts to treat depressed individuals negative thoughts and behaviors by changing the explanations for problems and symptoms. AR has become popular and heavily researched in China because it is shorter and easily applied (Wang, et. al., 2011) Depression is easy to target with attribution theory because it can be individualized to the patients need and target the negative outcomes specifically. AR therapy targets the negative attributions by supplying alternative explanations that are more healthy attributions (Wang et. al., 2011). By offering a healthy alternative explanation the depressed person begins to make sense and not feel so out of control of their life. This may also lead to a quick way for depressed individuals to assess what is really happening and why they perceive the situation so negatively. This goes back to the many different facets of depression. By targeting where the negative perceptions are coming from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
