Comparing The Museum Of Modern Art
Similarities exist between the architecture of the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Kimball
Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas. The Museum of Modern Art, designed by Philip L. Goodwin and
Edward Durell Stone, was one of the earliest examples of the International Style (Ricciotti, 1985, p.
51). The Museum of Modern Art was established as an educational institution which displayed
painting sculpture but also introduced photography, film, and industrial design (Ricciotti, 1985, p. 51).
In contrast, the Kimball Art Museum s purpose was to display the Kimball family s extensive
collection and preserve it for future generations (Loud, 1987, p. 15). The initial collection was
comprised of late renaissance and baroque work which contrasted ... Show more content on

Kahn s vaulted skylights created unique, filtered, light that showcased the art and played an important
role in the museum s innovative design (Loud, 1987, p, 44). The one story museum also created rooms
that created harmony with the art and were void of unnecessary decorative elements or details (Loud,
p.1987, p. 34). Additionally, instead of a large, sprawling royal palace, the Museum of Modern Art s
vertical design fit into the crowded city (Ricciotti, 1985, p. 60). The interior spaces were reminiscent
of the original townhouse structure with multiple stories and shorter ceiling height (Ricciotti, 1985, p.
58). In comparison to the Louvre, the gallery spaces did not feature grand halls as the modernist
architects rejected the Beaux Arts traditional elements (Ricciotti, 1985, p. 59). The style of the
Museum of Modern Art symbolizes the ideological aims of the original design (Ricciotti, 1985, p. 51).
The original facade is one of the only features that remains to this day (Ricciotti, 1985, p.74). The
results of different tastes and backgrounds resulted in a building that is based on variations of the
international style and more towards modernism (Ricciotti, 1985, p. 72). Recent renovations
demonstrate respect to the original design and its significant past (Ricciotti, 1985, p.

The Globalization Of The World Economies Is A Direct...
Over the past few decades, particularly during the 2000s, financial markets around the globe have
become increasingly interconnected (Shmukler, 2004). This mounting integration of the world
economies is a direct result of globalization. Particularly, the globalization of financial markets is
characterized by substantial cross national flows of capital and the development of a large foreign
exchange market. Every day around the world, banks and stockbrokers transfer vast amounts of
money across country borders in the form of retirement funds, hedge funds, insurance, and similar
investments. For instance, a German national is able to purchase Facebook stock which is an
American based company that went public to venture capitalists around the ... Show more content on

According to Schmukler (2004), when financial institutions in one country are under duress,
borrowers have the option to raise capital by issuing shares in domestic or international capital
markets. The globalization of finance make the valuing and distribution of capital more efficient as
changes in financial risks are revealed quickly. Furthermore, borrowers and investors can obtain better
terms on their financing as they are able to tap a broader pool of capital from a more diverse and
competitive array of providers (Häusler, 2002). Corporations can afford tangible investments because
they have become substantially cheaper. As a result, these reduced rates improve economic activity
and growth, in addition to economic prosperity. Emerging enterprises and reputable banks can source
funds from a diverse group of providers, and build their businesses.
On the other hand, the pitfalls of financial globalization include: the instability of markets, distortion
of the allocation of capital, emerging companies and banks are vulnerable because of inadequate
regulation, and the contagion phenomenon. The globalization of financial markets are volatile and this
may threaten markets. When the globalization of financial market occurs, financial risk will become
actively traded among companies, investors, and other nations. Consequently, it becomes challenging
to pinpoint potential challenges and measure

Immigration Scapegoats
In order to gain favor with the native masses, it seems that many politicians have used immigrants has
scapegoats. More to the point, when trying to find a way to isolate a country s problems whether it be
unemployment or the economy, most politicians try to find a scapegoat to blame for the mishaps of the
country s well being. For example, when the Marijuana tax act of 1937 was passed its sole purpose
was to halt the immigration of people from Mexico. Moreover, many blamed the immigrants from
Mexico for the usage of Marijuana. As the usage exponentially increased within the United States, the
political solution was a blame on immigration. This is but one of the many reasons immigrants
become targeted by politicians and the government. However,

The Dangers Of Nuclear Bombs
Nuclear Bombs
What would happen if the most powerful countries in the world started a nuclear war? In society,
many people will agree that nuclear bombs are a threat to humankind and the all life on Earth. To this
day, several countries still have nuclear bombs and weapons. This can affect the world because
countries with nuclear weapons have even threatened to use these against other countries, which could
start a third, more deadly, world war.
The last World War (WW2) was the only war that actually used nuclear weapons. Nuclear weapons
are categorized into two major types of bombs. The first is called an atomic bomb and it can kill
thousands of people, but the hydrogen bomb is even worse and can kill ten times the number of living
things. When a nuclear bomb explodes, it either releases uranium or plutonium atoms, smoke, dust,
and soot. As this happens, the bombs pollute the ground, food, water and air. When the chemicals get
into large and small bodies of water, it can destroy the ecosystem and hurt people who eat food grown
or raised in the area. Even when there is wind, it is still dangerous. The wind can carry the chemicals
which travel for miles and can be destructive to habitats. Nuclear bombs can kill living things almost
instantly, but if the people near the explosion don t die, they usually suffer from radiation, very severe
burns, flying glass and deadly debris. When the United States dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima,
Japan and Nagasaki, Japan in

Systematic Organization in Learning
When you classify music in genres, terms such as Classical can be rather broad, and it can include
both Classical time period (1750 1820) and pieces from the 19th to 21st century. For example, a piece
written by J.S. Bach, can be classified as Classical, it is technically more suitably defined as being in
the Baroque genre because it is different in terms of sound quality ,composition technique,
instrumentation and arrangement.
In conclusion, systematic organization of facts is not fruitful as arts are full of opinions and
perspectives. It is difficult to systematize aspects of Arts that are based on personal Knowledge rather
it is more subjectivity than propositional ways of knowing. Even if you can systematically organize
things such as musical notes in music, the purpose of music is to communicate feelings and emotion,
and this cannot be just done by reading the musical notes to play. The technique and intention of the
performance included in it. Therefore system in Arts is not as necessary as it is in areas like Natural
Science as Arts is not only based on facts which leads me to an argument such as whether or not it is
always necessary for knowledge to be based on facts in order for that knowledge to be considered
adequately justified.
The second Areas of Knowledge I will be discussing is natural sciences. I take Biology so I chose to
focus on Biology so that I can talk from my experience. System is often used in Natural Sciences in

In Camus The Stranger, and Yoshimoto s Kitchen, both authors use the literary technique of pathetic
fallacy a branch of personification which gives to the weather and physical world, human attributes. In
both texts, this technique enriches the narratives both aesthetically and in terms of meaning by telling
the inner emotions of the characters. However, while in Kitchen, the pathetic fallacy is employed
throughout the text, in The Stranger, it takes centre stage only at the most crucial point in the book

The glittering night in this case is thankfully left alone to ring with all its positive connotations;
without the show spoiling, depressing adjective lonely (6) or its companions. With the reoccurrence of
death, loss and with them, sorrow, Mikage says: I watched the gloomy clouds of the orange of the
sunset spreading across them in the western sky. Soon, the cold night would descend and fill the
hollow in my heart (56). Scenery which in better circumstances would have been a beautiful sunshine
and the coming of a peaceful night, become gloomy and cold. Thus, the spreading and descen[t] are
not really of the sunset, or of the night, but of the sorrow that comes with loss. With the reappearance
of hope in the final cycle, the pathetic fallacy is both a reflection on the past, as well as an evidence of
tenacious hope. Mikage says: The moon shone down from high above, crossing the sky, erasing the
stars in its path. It was full. I watched it go behind a cloud, completely hidden, and re emerge (94).
Stars usually have a positive connotation as they hold light in the sea of the night s darkness However,
in this scene, there is a seeming contradiction as they are eras[ed] (96). This is however merely
seeming because with the full moon, an atmosphere more positive than that of stars in a dark night is
created. The moon leaves a bright

Radical Reconstruction Dbq
Radical reconstruction also known as Congressional Reconstruction began in 1867 after North
rejected the policies of Andrew Johnson in elections of 1866. After winning election of 1866,
republicans gained full control over policymaki ng in south. They got power to override vetoes of
Andrew Johnson. Even though Radical reconstruction had some failures; it was a step in the right
direction. Through radical reconstruction, Republicans achieved the goal of bringing the nation all
together and acknowledged 13th, 14th and 15th amendment. After Civil War, reconstruction was
important in order to rebuild in the nation and to run it smoothly. Lincoln proposed the idea of

Trials And Tribulations In Mental Health
It has been noted by many that it is important for us to understand that the present is directly
influenced by the past and it will directly influence the future. If we are to ignore the events that have
led us to where we are then we are destined to repeat our often tragic and ill fated past. We also have
no way of truly making a difference in the field of mental health if we are unable to build upon both
the successes and the failures of those who have come before us (Gerig, 2014). This paper examines
some of the literature written to detail the trials and tribulations in the mental health field from the
early Greek times to present day in the hopes of gaining some perspective on both the past and the
present treatments of and for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jung developed intricate theories surrounding the collective unconscious and archetypes or archetypal
images . Jung believed that in combination, the archetypes and collective unconscious combined to
directly influence human personality. These theories incorporated an aspect of culture, religion, and
spirituality that Freud s views avoided. Jung s new school of thought would come to be known as
Analytic Psychology and much like Freud this school of thought remains intact for many modern
mental health practitioners.
Many other highly notable influences on mental health and wellness exist and deserve great respect
from modern therapists, psychologists, and psychiatrists alike. Individuals such as Ivan Pavlov, Alfred
Adler, Jean Piaget, Erik Erikson, Abraham Maslow, and Carl Rogers contributed to the mountain of
fascinating theories that can now be pieced together to better help explain and care for the human
condition. Those treating the mentally ill have been given powerful tools in understanding humanity

We Must Go Wrong Will Going Wrong
Anything that can go wrong will go wrong. Even with the knowledge that human error, internal and
external factors can, do, and will affect the outcome of any given task, individuals strive towards
creating environments in which risk levels can be safely and satisfactorily managed by facing those
threats head on. There is a lesson behind each disappointment or negative outcome that leads us to a
greater understanding of and appreciation for our surroundings. More importantly, this newfound
knowledge and experience contribute to the evolution of safer, more manageable systems that are
capable of anticipating future threats to any given environment. This type of learning is especially
beneficial in the aviation industry. Without a true appreciation of the costly mistakes that have forever
changed the face of the industry, aviation would neither have evolved into the safest mode of
transportation in the world, nor would it be as rich in technological and human behavioral resources.
We ve spent the last years in aviation focusing on increasing safety by trying to perfect the aircraft
only to learn, as Wilbur Wright stated, [that] the safety of the operator is more important than any
other point. Greater prudence is needed rather than greater skill. Wright suggests that it is not a
measure of technology or individual crewmember capabilities, rather the issue at the center of aviation
is the lack of caution and preparation that exists within the cabin. Information gathered from

Madame Defarge Quotes
Madame DeFarge as a Lioness Madame Defarge, a very important character is Charles Dicken s
novel, A Tale of Two Cities depicts the characteristics of a lioness thought the way that she acts, and
the qualities that she possesses. A lioness is often called a hunter because of its presence in the African
grasslands. A lioness is called this because of its ways of having a pride follow her around, the belief
of being king of the jungle, and the merciless hunters they so often are (Travel). Madame Defarge
depicts a lioness because of the shared characteristics that he has portrayed such as leading a pack by
being seen as the king of the jungle, being loyal to her family and her revenge for her family, and by
being a merciless hunter. Madame Defarge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Madame fulfills this quality by assigning and hunting for people that will be killed when the
revolution comes. Madame is at the front of a mob leading the people to go take over the Bastille

see me! said Madame, composed as ever, but not knitting to day. Madame s resolute right hand was
occupied with an axe, in place of the usual softer implements, and in her girdle were a pistol and a
cruel knife (252 ; bk.2, ch. 21). This shows that she is merciless carrying multiple weapons in her
hand getting ready to kill anyone who stands in her way. Another time that Madame defarge shows
that she has no mercy is when she cuts off the governor s head and then tells a guard to hang him, after
he is beheaded. Dicken s describes the scene

Cordelia King Lear
In the Jacobean era, the natural order of the world was perceived as strict and immutable. In King
Lear, a tragic Shakespearean play, emphasis is also put on the natural order, which specifically reveals
a destiny for the characters in terms of their roles in the social hierarchy. Shakespeare shows that
adhering to one s social order is heroic. He demonstrates this though Cordelia, Kent, and Edgar, who
are all initially out casted, and then reintegrated into the King s community through adhering to their
social order. Early on in the play, Cordelia is disowned by her father, and then due to her selfless love
for him, she heroically reintegrates herself as the ideal youngest daughter according to the natural
familial order. Cordelia is rejected by her father when she is asked how much she loves him in order to
justify her portion of inherited land. Before arguing with her father, she tells him: Unhappy that I am, I
cannot heave My heart into my mouth. I love your majesty According to my bond, no more, no less.

Lear unfortunately fails to see how her lack of skill to demonstrate her admiration for him upsets her.
When Cordelia says that she loves Lear like a father, her honesty does not undermine her respect, but
instead reveals her pure respect for their bond. This perception allows Cordelia to adhere to the
familial norm where the youngest daughter is loved the most, which explains why Lear was
particularly upset by her vague response. Cordelia then decides to invade England in order to save her
father from the abuse of her two sisters. In preparation, she says

Quotes For Flowers For Algernon
Intelligence or Long Life Today evolution of human intelligence has advanced us to the stage where
most of us are too smart to invent new gods but are reluctant to give up the old ones (Ruth Hurmence
Green). Flowers for Algernon is about a man named Charlie Gordon, he is 37, and has a low IQ of 68.
He will go through an operation that has never been done before. It is supposed to generate Charlie to
three times smarter. A while after he had undergone the operation his mind starts to deteriorate. He
was able to predict that his mind will deteriorate like Algernon s due to a series of experiments he did.
Charlie is better off doing this experiment. Charlie is better of going through the experiment be
because he can now see things clearly for the first time, he has the chance to experience what it is like
to be smart, and he knows how he truly feels. Initially, Charlie was not aware of what was going on
around him. He thought that everyone liked him and was his friend. He also was not very intelligent,
which is why he was oblivious to what was happening around him. After Charlie had the surgery he
was able to now notice that the people he worked with at the factory were not actually his friends. He
found out April 20, I never knew that Joe and Frank and the others liked to have me around all the
time to make fun of me (33 34). Now that he got the procedure he can now tell that his so called
friends, just liked him because they could make fun of him. Another example of him noticing things
for the first time is when the doctors were arguing Charlie felt that he know saw them for the first
time. He realizes about their personal life, how one has a wife that wants him to be successful and the
other wants some of the glory to. Once again, due to his intelligence, he notices more about the people
he interacts with almost every day. He noticed things that he has never realized, let alone thought
about. Additionally, Charlie now has a chance to be smart. This operation allows Charlie s IQ to triple.
Since Mrs.Kinnian suggested Charlie he got a chance to experience true intelligence, and love. After
the operation, he was able to comprehend more than the doctors, who were before smarter than him.

Prejudice In To Kill A Mockingbird
As Maya Angelou once said, Prejudice is a burden that confuses the past, threatens the future and
renders the present inaccessible. Prejudice is an issue our society face today that has been continued
from the past. Prejudice is a negative attitude or an unfavorable opinion that one has against another
formed without reason nor knowledge. There are many types of prejudice including racism, sexism,
classism, nationalism and many more. However, they all induce discrimination and stereotyping. In To

Below us, nobody liked Tom Robinson s answer. Mr. Gilmer paused a long time to let it sink in (124

black man feeling sorry for a white woman. Due to prejudice, the community of Maycomb expects
Tom Robinson to have negative intentions entirely. People decides to hold grudge against Tom
because of his skin color, even when the collected evidence obviously suggests Tom Robinson as an
innocent black man. Because of biased opinions towards skin color and race, many people are being

Victor Frankenstein Reflection
Victor Frankenstein, an egocentric scientist, decides to defy the laws of nature and act as if he was
God. When he successfully creates life, the moment he looks at the creature he shrieks in horror. The
hideousness of the creature causes Victor to run away in fear leaving the newborn to survive by itself.
When Victor returns back to an empty apartment, he rejoices and thinks his problem has vanished.
Between Victor Frankenstein and the creature, Victor is the bigger monster because he feels no
remorse for his actions while the creature regrets many of his wrong doings despite both seeking
revenge.
The creature, born with feelings of happiness and affection , is a reflection of Victor as a young boy,
full of joy and love. The creature and Victor share these uplifting traits in the beginning of their lives,
but their spirits drastically change when one wrongs the other. The selfishness and irresponsibility
rushing through Victors veins lead to the destruction of the creature s heart. Due to Victor s resignation
of being the father figure of the creature; the creature seeks vengeance on Victor indirectly. Both

Resonant Characteristics Of The Acoustic Theory Of Speech...
According to the acoustic theory of speech production, what we know to be speech output results from
a source of sound energy (e.g. the larynx) modulated by a transfer (filter) function which is determined
by the shape of the resonator (vocal tract). This model, often referred to as the source filter theory of
speech production, originates from the works of Gunner Fant (1960, 1980) and Stevens and House
(1955, 1961) (Haskins Laboratory, Yale University 2008). Source filter theory puts forth two distinct
and important ideas; one is that the specific articulatory postures that the vocal tract takes on results in
the production of specific sounds, which is why speakers can deduce the shape of the vocal tract upon
hearing a speech sound. The other is that while the source may produce a sound, the filter will select
only a portion of the harmonics within that sound to be amplified and issued from the mouth
(Behrman, A. 2017).
Resonant Characteristics of the Vocal Tract
Because source filter theory breaks up speech production into the resonator and the source, it allows
us the advantage of assessing the contributions of each. When examining the glottal source, it is
important to keep in mind its acoustic characteristics. The glottal source, perceived as a buzzing noise
when not filtered through a resonator, has a fundamental frequency and corresponding harmonics. The
first characteristic to consider would be whether the sound is voiced or voiceless. When a sound is
voiced, the

Colonization Of The Hawaiian Islands
Introduction
Colonisation of the Hawaiian Islands in the years following Captain James Cook s landing in 1778
had a huge influence on the societal structure, the ruling system, and the gender roles within the
community. With the old culture dismantled, a new one was built on the basis of Christian values,
brought to Hawaii by the missionaries from New England. This essay will give a brief description of
the colonisation of Hawaii, and then focus on the effects this process had on the societal structure, the
monarchy, and the gender roles as were widely accepted in society, as well as how these changes
affected other aspects of their culture. It will also briefly explore the effects of the expanding economy
due to the opportunities the colonisers saw for growth and monetary gain.
The Ruling System
A major change to 19th century Hawaiian society, largely caused by the arrival of foreigners into the
islands and the acculturation that followed, was the establishment of a western modelled monarchy,
solidifying Hawaii as an imperial society. In 1810, a Hawaiian chief, Kamehameha I, united the
islands to form a kingdom, using the weapons and advice of the foreign colonisers. The high chiefs of
that era immediately understood the importance of the foreigner s ships and their weaponry.
Kamehameha [...] was especially adept at maximizing the use of Western advisors and war technology
in the advancement of his imperialistic aims. (Pomaika i Cook, Withy and Tarallo Jensen 2003). This

Ape Diving Behavior

evolutionary and ecological characteristics of water use in apes with video evidence of apes
swimming and diving. It also presents a hypothesis to discover the lack of instinct for swimming in
primates and humans.
The research started with two types of apes: a chimpanzee, Cooper, and an orangutan, Suryia. Both
were raised around humans and showed an interest in water at young ages. Cooper began dunking his
head in the bathtub at age four and later in the shallow end of a pool and Suryia was bathed each day

stronger swimmer. In the beginning of 2012, Suryia began swimming with his head above water and
now swims further distances. Although Cooper and Suryia learned to swim in two different places and
one was intentionally taught to swim unlike the other they both had similar swimming techniques. In
both situations, the apes were introduced to water in the shallow end of the pool so they could reach
the ground. Then they were slowly presented with deeper levels of water. Ultimately, this shows that
apes are not unable to swim, but they must learn it because they do not have the natural instinct to

The Significance of the Rape Scene in Timothy Findley’s...
The significance of the rape scene in Timothy Findley s The Wars Ryan Moore
Robert Ross, the protagonist of Timothy Findley s novel The Wars undergoes a disturbing violation
when his fellow soldiers rape him; this is a significant turning point for Robert s character and a
section of the book Findley uses to address many themes. Throughout the book we witness Robert
maturing and experiencing many hardships that will help create the man he becomes. The most
significant of these trials is the scene at the insane asylum because it is where Robert looses the last
connection to his innocence and his faith in humanity s virtuousness. Findley also uses this scene to

When he receives his belongings and sees the photograph of his sister, Robert realizes that he doesn t

in this world any longer. Robert decides to burn the picture to free Rowena s memory from the
slightest association with the depravation mankind has sunk to in his eyes, and with it he is destroying
the last link to his innocence.
The rape scene is also very important because of the real life symbolism it represents. Findley uses the
rape scene to acknowledge that the war has raped Robert s generation of men who were affiliated with
it. As Robert is assaulted his thoughts lead to Why? Robert kept thinking. Why? (174). The author
hints at this theme in the following line: . . . four hundred thousand possibilities all of those lives that
would never be (169). Robert s thoughts of why reflect the thoughts of many North American men and
women who had lost love ones during the war. Findley believes that the war, and those who made it,
raped Robert s entire generation of men and left damaged scared victims and grieving relatives in their
wake (gradesaver). Findley cleverly emphasizes the subtle metaphor of four hundred thousand

An Admirable Spanish Novel, The Ingenious Gentleman Don...
Don Quixote fully titled The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha is an admirable
Spanish novel by an eminent novelist Miguel De Cervantes. Cervantes wrote many novels while in
prison but unfortunately this was the only reputed work produced by him which became world s first
best seller and literature s great masterpiece. It encompasses the history, culture and the general
environment in Spain. According to me, this magnum opus became so high flying because of its
universally recognized matchless idea of Quixotism (pursuits of lofty romantic ideas) combined with
the innovative characters.
The concept of the novel is simple: Alonso Quijano (Don Quixote), landowner from La Mancha, is
obsessed with his library of chivalrous books. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The purpose of the book also pertains with the thought of Quixotism and the invention of characters.
Clearly, it was to undermine the influence of the vain and empty book of chivalry in order to provide
some merry and prudent material for reader s entertainment. Although it is immaterial he did make a
complete end to the further publications of chivalric romances. Cervantes himself wrote in the latter
section of part 1, for chivalry, offers wide and spacious window through which the pen may run
without any hindrance. Perhaps Don Quixote owes his genesis to these notions of his author. But as
Cervantes launches his idealistic and possessed hero on a career open to public contempt, the
possibilities of a many leveled, kaleidoscopic theme may have become apparent very early if the
characters were not incorporated in a beguiling way. The way he integrated his character not only
helped him produce an idealistic effect on his work but also kept track of his idea of Quixotism in the
quixotic environment created by Don Quixote all throughout the novel
So, while Cervantes is presenting a vivid ideology of Quixotism it was really requisite for him to have
particular relationship with his characters as well as the reader and he did succeed in doing so. Don
Quixote presents this interesting aspect of a novelist who learns and grows in coincidence with his
own characters. As he lives with them and loves them, Cervantes investigates

assignment, I wanted to see if this film would be the type of film to portray people with schizophrenic
with a comprehensive determination, and then avoid the usual judgements such as a person that is
really terrifying, psychotic, killer or just plain rare person.
As read and saw the film of A Beautiful Mind, John Nash is perceived as a scary guy. From the scene
where he leaves his child in the tub because he thinks that his friend Charles is looking over the child
while he is doing something else, where he almost hurts his wife while he listens to the voice that tells
him to finish her, the film pictures Nash as a man who can be dangerous when he is faced with an
episode. Putting aside my own thoughts, I have to add that this story has great strengths, thanks to
the great performances of Russell Crowe as John Nash, and Jennifer Connelly that plays his wife
Alicia.
Crowe gives a impeccable and beautiful performance, and almost makes it perfect. In his character of
John Nash they showed many sides of him: the painfully disagreeable child at Princeton, the sarcastic
humorist, the rightfully arrogant mathematician, the anxious and pitiful receiver of the full invasion of
psychotically hallucinations, and these characterizations are basically working. But the young Nash,
despite being an outstanding unconventional genius on his first postgraduate research, he is not that

Vince Flynn s Extreme Measures
The United States Federal Justice system is renowned for enforcing the law as strictly as a basketball
referee (☺ Simile). However, the law is not without defect, as its victims are occasionally unjustly
prosecuted for benevolent actions. Extreme Measures by Vince Flynn demonstrates that Mitch Rapp, a
CIA special agent, is wedged in a legal scenario embroiling the differing ethics of prisoner and officer
treatment. Meanwhile, an elite terroristic group gains entry into the United States. The most important
settings in the novel are the Senate Intelligence Committee s meeting room, the eastern coast of
Florida, and a United States Air Force base in Afghanistan. The Senate Intelligence Committee s
meeting room comprises a significant setting in the novel because it ... Show more content on

For this reason, the Florida coast represents not only an incipient threat to United States security but
also the merciless impact of the CIA s distraction at the hands of the Senators. Furthermore, the
eastern coast denotes the active efforts of terrorists to cause devastation in the United States: ...the
magnificent destruction of the Coast Guard helicopter and the mad dash to shore (Flynn 281). Similar
to a sprinter s ultimate goal being an Olympic gold medal, the terrorists objective is to enter the United
States and instigate desolation. The eastern coast is a key (☺ Metaphor) to the terrorists ambitions.
Even more, the key houses the protection of the United States; thus, when the terrorists enter the
United States, Flynn illustrates for the reader that the nation is not insuperable. Undeniably, Flynn
foreshadows future predicaments that will demand the CIA s attention. The eastern Floridian coast
creates friction for the novel by yielding terrorists entrance into the

elements of morality such as rules and punishments come from an external source and exist in their
own right. Due to this they see things as clearly right or wrong as they are told is the case. From the
age of 10 the morality of a child is autonomous. Autonomous means this is where the starts to believe
that they are subject to one s own laws and rules. This stage involves moral relativism. This is where
the child starts to understand that rules come from social relationships and they know the importance
of taking other peoples opinions into account. Piaget stated that the move from heteronomous to

Kohlberg believed that we must have an understanding of justice as that represents the most
fundamental moral principle. Kohlberg gave a group of subjects a number of moral dilemma s
between 2 or more moral principles and asked them to choose between them. The dilemma s used
involved 10 universal moral issues which were punishment, property, law, roles and concerns of
affection, authority, life, liberty, distributive justice, sex and truth. From this experiment Kohlberg
formulated this theory of moral development.
Kohlberg s theory of moral development involved three levels with each level having two stages.
The earlier of these levels are consistent to Piaget s stages of cognitive development. The three levels
in Kohlberg s theory are the pre †conventional included up to and above the age of 9, The
conventional model which included most adolescents and adults and finally the post conventional
level which includes about 20% of adults according to Shaver and Strong over the age of 20. Each of
these levels have two stages which are stage 1 is the punishment and obedience orientation and stage 2

The Silent Generation and the Baby Boomers were not included in the study because the emphasis of
the research is placed on the younger more diverse work force. Several research questions will be
answered to achieve the stated purpose of this research. By applying statistical procedure of
multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) to the Work Values Inventory (Super 1970) a
measurement can be made of the null hypothesis showing the mean vector of 15 work values.
Univariate tests of each variable were used to address the other research questions: 1. Creativity 2.
Management 3. Achievement 4. Surroundings 5. Supervisory relations 6. Way of life 7. Security 8.
Associates 9. Esthetics 10. Prestige 11. Independence 12. Variety 13. Economic return 14. Altruism;
and 15. Intellectual stimulation (Super, 1970). According to Murphy, Conoley, Impara (1994) the
Work Values Inventory is designed to measure the values which are extrinsic to as well as those which
are intrinsic in work (p. 998). The survey is developed using a 5 point Likert style and is ranked by the
participants as follows: 5 = Very Important 4 = Important 3 = Moderately Important 2 = Of Little

Romanticism As A Source Of Spirituality
Classification
Romanticism is a time period in history based on a cultural revolution. It is defined differently based
on geographical location, however it overall incorporates the same common principles: (1)
imagination, (2) individuality, (3) nature as a source of spirituality, (4) looking to the past for wisdom,
and (5) seeing the common man as a hero. These common principles are what inspired writers and
artists of the time to fabricate ideas. This is how the period got named romanticism for the term
romantic, [was] long synonymous with false, fictitious and unnatural (Courthion, 1961, p. 7). Defining
the movement is what overtime pulled the art community away from the previous baroque era. By the
late 1700s romance thus had come to refer broadly to any work that could be distinguished from
works principally realistic in form and subject matter (Davey, 2006). Against the common
misconception, the Romantic Movement was not considered to be strongly influenced by love. Instead
the historically been associated with narratives of adventure, romance, and myth as opposed to
realistic stories or portrayals of history, politics, or everyday life (Romanticism, 2014).
The Beginning Historians associate the Romantic Movement as coming out of Europe as [it was a]
reaction to Napoleonic era conservatism and the political norms and the rationalization of nature
associated with Enlightenment (Romanticism, 2014). The focus on romantic literature commenced in

First Los Angeles Aqueduct
The First Los Angeles Aqueduct:
With the rapid population growth during the year of 1902, Los Angeles had a larger demand of water
than what they could provide and searching for a way to bring water was a must. William Mulholland,
superintendent of the Los Angeles City Water Company, began to search for a new supply. He started
looking on nearby local areas but it generated to nothing. In his search for a new source, he began by
surveying all the rivers and groundwater basins south of the city. He found groundwater regulated and
being used by agriculture. Additional groundwater use would limit the expansion of the neighboring
country, which was the main basis of wealth of the area. Mulholland concluded Los Angeles would
have to look elsewhere. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He found that the Colorado River was the best source. In 1925, the Department of Water and Power
(DWP) was established. Now what came to be called the Colorado River Aqueduct, needed financing
to be accomplished. Voters from the region approved a $2 million bond to perform the engineering
needed for the aqueduct. In 1928, an act of the State Legislature, created the Metropolitan Water
District of Southern California (MWD), and its purpose was to construct the Colorado River aqueduct
to supply water to Southern California. By 1931, voters issued another bond for $220 million that
would start the construction of the aqueduct. By 1941 the aqueduct was completed stretching 242
miles from the Colorado River to its final holding reservoir near Riverside, California. The Colorado
River Aqueduct consists of more than 90 miles of tunnels, 55 miles of conduit, 30 miles of siphons,
five pumping stations, 5 treatment plants, and 9 reservoirs. All of this can supply about 1.2 million
acre feet of water every year, which is more than a billion gallons a day. This caused phenomenal
growth of Los Angeles, San Diego and neighboring areas. The aqueduct is capable of lifting more than
1600 cfs to a static height of 1600 feet as it takes a path through mountains and deserts. Upon the
completion of the Colorado River Aqueduct in 1941, the Municipal Water District began to wholesale
Colorado River water to its member agencies. Today those agencies include 14 cities, 12 municipal
water districts, and a county water authority. More than 130 municipalities and many unincorporated
areas are served by this project of the DWP s and Mulholland s vision. Before Mulholland died on
July 22, 1935, he lived to see the inaugurations of the Colorado River Aqueduct and Hoover Dam,
constructed in the spirit of significance he had always

My Career As AAthlete
Before racing shells, coxswains, and 5:00 am rowing practices, it was always sports that represented a
measure of success for me. From a young age I dreamed of joining the ranks of Division 1 collegiate
athletes all over the country and knew my success would be the direct result of my commitment to
training. Fast forward twenty years and the athletic career I have experienced has been nothing short
of successful. Rowing demanded more from me than I had ever demanded of myself and taught me
the power of perseverance. It instilled in me that my capabilities have no boundaries and laid the
groundwork for my success in business. The sport of rowing is relentless in its power to expose the
mental strength of athletes. Since the completion of my experience as a collegiate athlete, I have been
driven by a passion to further my career as a professional in sport. With the achievement of obtaining
a graduate degree, I know as I create new career goals, I will have the skills necessary to succeed in a
new chapter of life. While I have a strong background in collegiate sports, coaching, and sports
entertainment, I believe a Master s in Sport Management from the University of San Francisco will
provide me with the professional networks, specialized training, and management skills necessary to
reach my goals of transitioning into Sport Marketing and Event Management. I hope to explore the
opportunities of the sports marketplace and gain enough knowledge from the core curriculum and

A Dream Deferred And Langston Hughes Comparison
The novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, A Dream Deferred by Langston Hughes and Hope by
Karen Hesse are three bodies of writing that share many similarities in how they use rhetoric to
develop overarching themes. First, A Dream Deferred uses personification to get it s theme across. It
states What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun? Or fester like a sore
And then run? The author first uses a simile and compares a dream that is deferred to a raisin that dry
s up and the next line asks whether it festers like a sore and then run which is also a simile and
personification because dreams can t run. The poem A Dream Deferred questions what happens to a
dream that fails or goes unrealized. Where does

Illinois Court Structure
They say justice is blind. Laws are made only to protect the interest of the wealthy. Anyone can
become a judge, one does not necessarily have to attend school to do so. These are just a few myths
about our judicial system, some of which that hold some truth, and others that are inaccurate. In this
paper, I will provide history about the type of court structure in Illinois, the process in which judges
and lawyers are selected within the state, and how judges and lawyers are disciplined. To begin,
Illinois was admitted to statehood in 1818. In its original Constitution, the following was outlined:
Every person ought to find a certain remedy in the laws for all injuries and wrongs which he may
receive in his person, property, or reputation; he ought to obtain by law right and justice. ... Show

In order to become a lawyer in Illinois, as I aspire to be, one must first attend an undergraduate
institute to obtain a degree. Next, for formal legal study, one must enter law school to obtain a
secondary degree called the Juris Doctor. However, before completing this, one must take the Law
School Admission Test (LSAT) as an entry exam to law school. The LSAT is offered four times
throughout the year, and consists of three sections which are: logical reasoning, analytical reasoning,
reading comprehension, and a writing sample. Hence, this test predicates how one will perform in law
school and often influences the school in which students are accepted. However, upon graduation, one
must pass the state bar exam. Even for this examination, there are a few requirements under Rule 704
in the Supreme Court Rules: the person must be of twenty one years of age, be of good moral
character to practice law, has satisfactorily completed exams on academic qualifications an
responsibility as prescribed by the Board of admissions, and attend a school on the approved list of the

Summary Of The Pact By PicoultThe Pact
Emily Gold was the typical 17 year old teenager who has always lived with her parents, Melaine and
Micheal, next door to Chris Harte, the perfect son and student athlete to James and Gus Harte.
Through this close proximity they became best friends. Emily and Chris started to date, which made
the parents happy, since they wanted nothing more than for the pair to end up together. Emily was a
striving art student with the ability to get into elite colleges due to years of hard studying. Because of
all of the people in her life that expected various sides of her, Emily had this idea that she must be the
perfect girlfriend, student, and daughter. With the suffocating reality setting in, she realized that it was
more than she could possibly handle, and so she resorts to killing herself. To Emily, this was the only
option on how to escape from the overwhelming position she was trapped in. In her novel, The Pact,
Picoult uses the theme of expectations to demonstrate the drowning, catastrophic effects it can have on
one s life by forcefully causing a person to create an image of themselves that they can never become.
Emily and Chris grew up side by side their whole lives. Their parents always talked about the pair
getting married or being together in some way. It was simply a joke when the children were little but
after the two started to date, the possibility become reality. However, this is a reality Emily was not
sure she wanted. In the novel, the parents are shown making

The Issue Of Abortion And Abortion Essay
The issue of abortion is a controversial one; there are arguments on both sides of the debate. In 1973
the national case of Roe v. Wade, sparked political decisions that created a national right to abortion.
Further, Roe v. Wade declared that unborn children are not `persons nor are they entitled to the same
constitutional protection as `born children (Baird, Rosenbaum, 2001). However, Roe v. Wade did not
end the debate, nor, did it stop both sides for continuing the fight for their individual beliefs. On the
one hand, pro choice s believe that woman are entitled to have abortions. Stating that an unborn child
is under the rights of the pregnant women. On the other hand, pro lifers believe that a woman should
not have the right to obtain an abortion, stating that an unborn child is a human deserving the same
constitutional rights as a child that has been born. The political goal most frequently mentioned by pro
lifers has been a Human Life Amendment (HLA) to thus, reverse Roe v. Wade. The HLA would
declare unborn children to be persons deserving equal protection under the Constitution. From an
ethical standpoint, one can take either side, for not only these reasons but also many more that we will
further explore. I personally think that abortion is a decision that can only be made by the person in
question, and not between that person and the government or an HLA. We well first look at the overall
argument of the pro choice side. After which, we will delve into the

  • 2. Comparing The Museum Of Modern Art Similarities exist between the architecture of the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Kimball Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas. The Museum of Modern Art, designed by Philip L. Goodwin and Edward Durell Stone, was one of the earliest examples of the International Style (Ricciotti, 1985, p. 51). The Museum of Modern Art was established as an educational institution which displayed painting sculpture but also introduced photography, film, and industrial design (Ricciotti, 1985, p. 51). In contrast, the Kimball Art Museum s purpose was to display the Kimball family s extensive collection and preserve it for future generations (Loud, 1987, p. 15). Kahn s vaulted skylights created unique, filtered, light that showcased the art and played an important role in the museum s innovative design (Loud, 1987, p, 44). The one story museum also created rooms that created harmony with the art and were void of unnecessary decorative elements or details (Loud, p.1987, p. 34). Additionally, instead of a large, sprawling royal palace, the Museum of Modern Art s vertical design fit into the crowded city (Ricciotti, 1985, p. 60). The interior spaces were reminiscent of the original townhouse structure with multiple stories and shorter ceiling height (Ricciotti, 1985, p. 58). In comparison to the Louvre, the gallery spaces did not feature grand halls as the modernist architects rejected the Beaux Arts traditional elements (Ricciotti, 1985, p. 59). The style of the Museum of Modern Art symbolizes the ideological aims of the original design (Ricciotti, 1985, p. 51). The original facade is one of the only features that remains to this day (Ricciotti, 1985, p.74). The results of different tastes and backgrounds resulted in a building that is based on variations of the international style and more towards modernism (Ricciotti, 1985, p. 72). Over the past few decades, particularly during the 2000s, financial markets around the globe have become increasingly interconnected (Shmukler, 2004). This mounting integration of the world economies is a direct result of globalization. Particularly, the globalization of financial markets is characterized by substantial cross national flows of capital and the development of a large foreign exchange market. Every day around the world, banks and stockbrokers transfer vast amounts of money across country borders in the form of retirement funds, hedge funds, insurance, and similar investments. According to Schmukler (2004), when financial institutions in one country are under duress, borrowers have the option to raise capital by issuing shares in domestic or international capital markets. The globalization of finance make the valuing and distribution of capital more efficient as changes in financial risks are revealed quickly. Furthermore, borrowers and investors can obtain better terms on their financing as they are able to tap a broader pool of capital from a more diverse and competitive array of providers (Häusler, 2002). Corporations can afford tangible investments because they have become substantially cheaper. As a result, these reduced rates improve economic activity and growth, in addition to economic prosperity. Emerging enterprises and reputable banks can source funds from a diverse group of providers, and build their businesses. On the other hand, the pitfalls of financial globalization include: the instability of markets, distortion of the allocation of capital, emerging companies and banks are vulnerable because of inadequate regulation, and the contagion phenomenon. In society, many people will agree that nuclear bombs are a threat to humankind and the all life on Earth. To this day, several countries still have nuclear bombs and weapons. This can affect the world because countries with nuclear weapons have even threatened to use these against other countries, which could start a third, more deadly, world war. The last World War (WW2) was the only war that actually used nuclear weapons. Nuclear weapons are categorized into two major types of bombs. The first is called an atomic bomb and it can kill thousands of people, but the hydrogen bomb is even worse and can kill ten times the number of living things. When a nuclear bomb explodes, it either releases uranium or plutonium atoms, smoke, dust, and soot. As this happens, the bombs pollute the ground, food, water and air. When the chemicals get into large and small bodies of water, it can destroy the ecosystem and hurt people who eat food grown or raised in the area. Even when there is wind, it is still dangerous. The wind can carry the chemicals which travel for miles and can be destructive to habitats. Nuclear bombs can kill living things almost instantly, but if the people near the explosion don t die, they usually suffer from radiation, very severe burns, flying glass and deadly debris. • 6. Systematic Organization in Learning When you classify music in genres, terms such as Classical can be rather broad, and it can include both Classical time period (1750 1820) and pieces from the 19th to 21st century. For example, a piece written by J.S. Bach, can be classified as Classical, it is technically more suitably defined as being in the Baroque genre because it is different in terms of sound quality ,composition technique, instrumentation and arrangement. In conclusion, systematic organization of facts is not fruitful as arts are full of opinions and perspectives. It is difficult to systematize aspects of Arts that are based on personal Knowledge rather it is more subjectivity than propositional ways of knowing. Even if you can systematically organize things such as musical notes in music, the purpose of music is to communicate feelings and emotion, and this cannot be just done by reading the musical notes to play. • 16. Resonant Characteristics Of The Acoustic Theory Of Speech... According to the acoustic theory of speech production, what we know to be speech output results from a source of sound energy (e.g. the larynx) modulated by a transfer (filter) function which is determined by the shape of the resonator (vocal tract). This model, often referred to as the source filter theory of speech production, originates from the works of Gunner Fant (1960, 1980) and Stevens and House (1955, 1961) (Haskins Laboratory, Yale University 2008). Source filter theory puts forth two distinct and important ideas; one is that the specific articulatory postures that the vocal tract takes on results in the production of specific sounds, which is why speakers can deduce the shape of the vocal tract upon hearing a speech sound. The other is that while the source may produce a sound, the filter will select only a portion of the harmonics within that sound to be amplified and issued from the mouth (Behrman, A. 2017). Resonant Characteristics of the Vocal Tract Because source filter theory breaks up speech production into the resonator and the source, it allows us the advantage of assessing the contributions of each. When examining the glottal source, it is important to keep in mind its acoustic characteristics. The glottal source, perceived as a buzzing noise when not filtered through a resonator, has a fundamental frequency and corresponding harmonics. The first characteristic to consider would be whether the sound is voiced or voiceless. When a sound is voiced, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Colonization Of The Hawaiian Islands Introduction Colonisation of the Hawaiian Islands in the years following Captain James Cook s landing in 1778 had a huge influence on the societal structure, the ruling system, and the gender roles within the community. With the old culture dismantled, a new one was built on the basis of Christian values, brought to Hawaii by the missionaries from New England. This essay will give a brief description of the colonisation of Hawaii, and then focus on the effects this process had on the societal structure, the monarchy, and the gender roles as were widely accepted in society, as well as how these changes affected other aspects of their culture. It will also briefly explore the effects of the expanding economy due to the opportunities the colonisers saw for growth and monetary gain. The Ruling System A major change to 19th century Hawaiian society, largely caused by the arrival of foreigners into the islands and the acculturation that followed, was the establishment of a western modelled monarchy, solidifying Hawaii as an imperial society. In 1810, a Hawaiian chief, Kamehameha I, united the islands to form a kingdom, using the weapons and advice of the foreign colonisers. The high chiefs of that era immediately understood the importance of the foreigner s ships and their weaponry. Don Quixote fully titled The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha is an admirable Spanish novel by an eminent novelist Miguel De Cervantes. Cervantes wrote many novels while in prison but unfortunately this was the only reputed work produced by him which became world s first best seller and literature s great masterpiece. It encompasses the history, culture and the general environment in Spain. According to me, this magnum opus became so high flying because of its universally recognized matchless idea of Quixotism (pursuits of lofty romantic ideas) combined with the innovative characters. Although it is immaterial he did make a complete end to the further publications of chivalric romances. Cervantes himself wrote in the latter section of part 1, for chivalry, offers wide and spacious window through which the pen may run without any hindrance. Perhaps Don Quixote owes his genesis to these notions of his author. But as Cervantes launches his idealistic and possessed hero on a career open to public contempt, the possibilities of a many leveled, kaleidoscopic theme may have become apparent very early if the characters were not incorporated in a beguiling way. The way he integrated his character not only helped him produce an idealistic effect on his work but also kept track of his idea of Quixotism in the quixotic environment created by Don Quixote all throughout the novel So, while Cervantes is presenting a vivid ideology of Quixotism it was really requisite for him to have particular relationship with his characters as well as the reader and he did succeed in doing so. From the scene where he leaves his child in the tub because he thinks that his friend Charles is looking over the child while he is doing something else, where he almost hurts his wife while he listens to the voice that tells him to finish her, the film pictures Nash as a man who can be dangerous when he is faced with an episode. Putting aside my own thoughts, I have to add that this story has great strengths, thanks to the great performances of Russell Crowe as John Nash, and Jennifer Connelly that plays his wife Alicia. However, the law is not without defect, as its victims are occasionally unjustly prosecuted for benevolent actions. Extreme Measures by Vince Flynn demonstrates that Mitch Rapp, a CIA special agent, is wedged in a legal scenario embroiling the differing ethics of prisoner and officer treatment. Meanwhile, an elite terroristic group gains entry into the United States. Similar to a sprinter s ultimate goal being an Olympic gold medal, the terrorists objective is to enter the United States and instigate desolation. The eastern coast is a key (☺ Metaphor) to the terrorists ambitions. Even more, the key houses the protection of the United States; thus, when the terrorists enter the United States, Flynn illustrates for the reader that the nation is not insuperable. • 26. Romanticism As A Source Of Spirituality Classification Romanticism is a time period in history based on a cultural revolution. It is defined differently based on geographical location, however it overall incorporates the same common principles: (1) imagination, (2) individuality, (3) nature as a source of spirituality, (4) looking to the past for wisdom, and (5) seeing the common man as a hero. These common principles are what inspired writers and artists of the time to fabricate ideas. This is how the period got named romanticism for the term romantic, [was] long synonymous with false, fictitious and unnatural (Courthion, 1961, p. 7). Defining the movement is what overtime pulled the art community away from the previous baroque era. By the late 1700s romance thus had come to refer broadly to any work that could be distinguished from works principally realistic in form and subject matter (Davey, 2006). Against the common misconception, the Romantic Movement was not considered to be strongly influenced by love. Instead the historically been associated with narratives of adventure, romance, and myth as opposed to realistic stories or portrayals of history, politics, or everyday life (Romanticism, 2014). The Beginning Historians associate the Romantic Movement as coming out of Europe as [it was a] reaction to Napoleonic era conservatism and the political norms and the rationalization of nature associated with Enlightenment (Romanticism, 2014). • 27. First Los Angeles Aqueduct The First Los Angeles Aqueduct: With the rapid population growth during the year of 1902, Los Angeles had a larger demand of water than what they could provide and searching for a way to bring water was a must. William Mulholland, superintendent of the Los Angeles City Water Company, began to search for a new supply. He started looking on nearby local areas but it generated to nothing. In his search for a new source, he began by surveying all the rivers and groundwater basins south of the city. He found groundwater regulated and being used by agriculture. Additional groundwater use would limit the expansion of the neighboring country, which was the main basis of wealth of the area. Mulholland concluded Los Angeles would have to look elsewhere. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He found that the Colorado River was the best source. In 1925, the Department of Water and Power (DWP) was established. Now what came to be called the Colorado River Aqueduct, needed financing to be accomplished. Voters from the region approved a $2 million bond to perform the engineering needed for the aqueduct. In 1928, an act of the State Legislature, created the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD), and its purpose was to construct the Colorado River aqueduct to supply water to Southern California. By 1931, voters issued another bond for $220 million that would start the construction of the aqueduct. By 1941 the aqueduct was completed stretching 242 miles from the Colorado River to its final holding reservoir near Riverside, California. The Colorado River Aqueduct consists of more than 90 miles of tunnels, 55 miles of conduit, 30 miles of siphons, five pumping stations, 5 treatment plants, and 9 reservoirs. All of this can supply about 1.2 million acre feet of water every year, which is more than a billion gallons a day. This caused phenomenal growth of Los Angeles, San Diego and neighboring areas. The aqueduct is capable of lifting more than 1600 cfs to a static height of 1600 feet as it takes a path through mountains and deserts. Upon the completion of the Colorado River Aqueduct in 1941, the Municipal Water District began to wholesale Colorado River water to its member agencies. Today those agencies include 14 cities, 12 municipal water districts, and a county water authority. More than 130 municipalities and many unincorporated areas are served by this project of the DWP s and Mulholland s vision. Before Mulholland died on July 22, 1935, he lived to see the inaugurations of the Colorado River Aqueduct and Hoover Dam, constructed in the spirit of significance he had always ... A Dream Deferred And Langston Hughes Comparison The novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, A Dream Deferred by Langston Hughes and Hope by Karen Hesse are three bodies of writing that share many similarities in how they use rhetoric to develop overarching themes. First, A Dream Deferred uses personification to get it s theme across. It states What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun? Or fester like a sore And then run? The author first uses a simile and compares a dream that is deferred to a raisin that dry s up and the next line asks whether it festers like a sore and then run which is also a simile and personification because dreams can t run. The poem A Dream Deferred questions what happens to a dream that fails or goes unrealized. Where does ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Illinois Court Structure They say justice is blind. Laws are made only to protect the interest of the wealthy. Anyone can become a judge, one does not necessarily have to attend school to do so. These are just a few myths about our judicial system, some of which that hold some truth, and others that are inaccurate. In this paper, I will provide history about the type of court structure in Illinois, the process in which judges and lawyers are selected within the state, and how judges and lawyers are disciplined. To begin, Illinois was admitted to statehood in 1818. In its original Constitution, the following was outlined: Every person ought to find a certain remedy in the laws for all injuries and wrongs which he may receive in his person, property, or reputation; he ought to obtain by law right and justice. ... The LSAT is offered four times throughout the year, and consists of three sections which are: logical reasoning, analytical reasoning, reading comprehension, and a writing sample. Hence, this test predicates how one will perform in law school and often influences the school in which students are accepted. However, upon graduation, one must pass the state bar exam. Even for this examination, there are a few requirements under Rule 704 in the Supreme Court Rules: the person must be of twenty one years of age, be of good moral character to practice law, has satisfactorily completed exams on academic qualifications an responsibility as prescribed by the Board of admissions, and attend a school on the approved list of the American Bar ... • 32. The Issue Of Abortion And Abortion Essay The issue of abortion is a controversial one; there are arguments on both sides of the debate. In 1973 the national case of Roe v. Wade, sparked political decisions that created a national right to abortion. Further, Roe v. Wade declared that unborn children are not `persons nor are they entitled to the same constitutional protection as `born children (Baird, Rosenbaum, 2001). However, Roe v. Wade did not end the debate, nor, did it stop both sides for continuing the fight for their individual beliefs. On the one hand, pro choice s believe that woman are entitled to have abortions. Stating that an unborn child is under the rights of the pregnant women. On the other hand, pro lifers believe that a woman should not have the right to obtain an abortion, stating that an unborn child is a human deserving the same constitutional rights as a child that has been born. The political goal most frequently mentioned by pro lifers has been a Human Life Amendment (HLA) to thus, reverse Roe v. Wade. The HLA would declare unborn children to be persons deserving equal protection under the Constitution. From an ethical standpoint, one can take either side, for not only these reasons but also many more that we will further explore. I personally think that abortion is a decision that can only be made by the person in question, and not between that person and the government or an HLA. We well first look at the overall argument of the pro choice side. After which, we will delve into the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
