The Human Cost Of An Illiterate Society Summary
The lack of knowledge deprives many individuals, from the essence of a better quality of life. The
Human Cost of an Illiterate Society , written by Jonathan Kozol, who is an American writer and
educator; discusses the negative effects that society has brought upon illiterate people.
Unfortunately, the majority of illiterate individuals suffer from poverty, and are raised in
households where their parents could not read or write. In this case, they are subjected to grow in
an environment that is deficient of educational skills. The terrible outcome of this, is that the cycle
of illiteracy continues to pass on from generation to generation. Therefore, obtaining a college
education can; undoubtedly, help an individual fight the form of subjugation .... Show more content

. Prior to attending college, I was a stay home mom and house wife taking care of my children

thought to myself, what will my children think of me when they grow up, and ask me if I attend
college? How can I in the future expect for them to get an education, if I haven t provided that

The Meaning of Work
The meaning of work is just as different to people as the meaning of life. So many things are
involved in what work really means. This includes morals and principles, personal work ethics,
responsibility and the list goes on. When it comes to deciding the right combination one must
remember to stay true to oneself in order to become honestly successful in the business world.
Rationality is not an easy concept to understand. By definition rationality is the, recognition of ends
and mean (Above the Bottom Line 3rd Edition, 2004, p. 211). Rationality begins with a capability

One of the most critical claims made about our free enterprise market system is that it is a just
way of solving the economic problems of producing and distributing goods as fairly as possible
throughout the whole society (Above the Bottom Line 3rd Edition, 2004, p. 320). So what is the
difference between capitalism and free enterprise?
Leftista is gives definitions of both of these. Free Enterprise is your right to engage in the
building, provisions, and/or selling of a product or service (Free Enterprise vs Capitalism).
Capitalism is defined as, the philosophy and strategy of the placement and the positioning of large
blocks of capital (Free Enterprise vs Capitalism).
Capitalism is not a solitary idea. Capitalism is not just an economic system; it is also an ethical
framework in which the question of what a person has earned or deserves plays a particularly
important role (Above the Bottom Line 3rd Edition, 2004, p. 327). With that said the concept of
what a person deserves is not a simple one. If it was, then there would be less questions sounding it.
Karl Marx recognized capitalism is a certain way. He saw, entrenched nature of this feature of
capitalism and referred to what we call the underclass with a dismissive name, the
lumpenproletariat (Above the Bottom Line 3rd Edition, 2004, p. 334). His worked is looked at
studied by many.

Essay about BBC s Current Marketing Plan
BBC s Current Marketing Plan
The BBC s current marketing plan focuses on a number of specific areas, where the BBC hopes
to achieve a variety of objectives that will improve the corporation s image, in this country as well
as abroad.
The BBC plans to increase the range and quality of its radio and television services. More high
impact broadcasting is being focused on. More memorable programmes are being developed and
created, in particular arts and current affairs. The BBC plans to build up and solidify its digital
service, providing something for everyone on this service. Interactive learning activities are
available and will become increasingly available in the future. These factors are ... Show more

Children, young people, young adults, adults and older people would potentially have to be catered
for. These different groups in themselves would also have various tastes. It would have to be
determined what the viewers would want to see most then the next most wanted programmes and
so on.
The BBC wishes to bring younger audiences to BBC services by making bold, innovative
programmes. It also wants the young people to engage more with the BBC s news and current
affairs, without having to dumb it down too much or showing less parliamentary programming.
New methods of attracting more of the UK s ethnic minorities, both through the mainstream and
targeted through specially made programmes are needed.
Younger audiences appear to be a trouble area for the BBC, as they are supposedly failing to
attract enough of them to programmes. Young people are greatly interested in new and existing
technology. Programmes like Tomorrow s World could be created especially for young people,
providing news and information on different inventions and modifications to existing technology.
Currently there are not enough dedicated programmes to it. Nowadays the news appears to be very
serious and bleak. To alter this more funny news and entertainment news should be shown. Ethnic
minorities do make up a considerable amount of the UK population. These families of an ethnic

The Male Struggle with Body Image
In today s society, people tend to focus a lot on females and the problems they have concerning
their body image based on popular culture, stereotypes, and other generalizations of how a
woman should look. What we do not realize however is that males struggle with their body
image as much as females do and are often not recognized in their fight to meet the expectations
of society. Males struggle with all kinds of eating and body disorders just as females do and the
expectations pushed on them by the media, women, and even other guys. There is a frightening
lack of treatment because guy s hardships are ignored and even overshadowed by women s
struggles. Males also go through the harmful effects and risks that come with the efforts they...

Eating disorders are not the only thing males also suffer from. Expectations from the media are
also a strong push into worries about body image. Despite popular belief, guys struggle with
images broadcasted by the media as much as girls do. Andrew Shrout, a junior at U.C. Berkeley
feels the weight that is put on him to be a man and pretend like nothing is wrong. Men are
pressured to have as little fat as possible but you ve got to pretend like you don t watch what you
eat (Alpert 1). Also, men are expected to up their game as women get more power financially as
well as keep their bodies well maintained. Clinical instructor at the Harvard Medical school
psychiatry department Roberto Olivardia states that men and young boys deal with the same
images broadcasted out as women and young girls do. Boys are growing up now with the
billboard of the guy with perfect pecs and biceps (Alpert 2). Media pushes the perfect way to look
at men in commercials, magazines, male models, and even movies. Girls often complain about the
unfair portrayal of women in comic books and video games with enormous boobs and tiny waists,

The Renaissance Era
The Renaissance Era took place for a time period that lasted for approximately 150 years and
during that time significant changes took place. These changes were with the Arts, Literature,
Fashion, and ideals. The entire age can be subdivided into three phases: from 1350 to 1400 during
which discovery of ancient texts and experimentation with new art forms took place; 1400 to 1500
typified by political stability in the Italian city states and the creation of recognizable cultural; and
1500 to 1550 dominated by foreign invasion and the diffusion of the Italian Renaissanceto the rest
of western Europe ( Renaissance Society ). The birth of the Renaissance took place in Italyafter the
most destructive plagues that caused enormous loss of life and this was the Black Plague (Life
in Italy). The plague was a tragic time which killed so many people and was difficult to survive.
Despite the plague, the quality of life for surviving citizens of the Renaissance may have
improved ( Renaissance Society ). Life was still considered hard in those times. Children were
vulnerable to death and diseases and not many survived into adulthood ( Daily Life ). Those that
were born into wealthy families had a better chance of survival. At that time, children were to act
like their parents and they had no rights ( Daily Life ). Within the Renaissance period the general
attitude towards children began to change. These attitude adjustments can be seen with the changes

My Life Reflection Paper
Literature and writing have had an affect on my life starting from my early childhood and
continues to influence me as I end my 11th year of school. From children s pop up books to 500
page novels reading has always taken part in developing my life. From learning to write my name
to using vigorous research and planning to construct a 7 page paper over the Scarlet Letterand the
unfortunate events little Hester Prynneis forced to deal with, along with the thrilling task analyzing
two juxtaposed literary works. Throughout my life writingand literature have helped to guide me
in life and aides in my everyday life. In grades kindergarten through seventh I attended school at
Piqua Catholic and more times than not was unsatisfactory in my writing and literature skills. I
always seemed to be the kid that fell behind when reading a book or was constantly spelling
words incorrectly. It was not that I did not care or never did my work, I tried but nothing ever
clicked for me. Tutoring was brought up in chat among my parents but they hoped that it would
click eventually. My mother acted as my own personal tutor at times. In preparation for spelling
tests we would take a cookie sheet and cover it in shaving cream. After my mom gave me a word
I would spell it out in the shaving cream. This helped me to visualize the words while
incorporating some fun into studying. First grade was nightmare for me, My teacher, Mrs.
Quarter had suggested to my parents that I be held back because I was so far behind compared
to the other children in my class. At times we would read together in class, taking turns by going
around the room. It was embarrassing when the book came to me and every other word I would
stumble and need help with pronunciation. Although Mrs. Quarter suggested I be held back a
year that was not what she wanted. At times she would stay after school with me to practice
reading with me which greatly benefited me. With Mrs. Quarters help my reading and writing
greatly improved and by the end of my second grade year I was on honor roll. As I grew older and
transferred to Troy City Schools I felt that my classes had gotten easier, especially English. I
excelled in English, I will credit my English teacher Mrs.

Internal Environment
Sodebo is a family business, and it is in direct competition with the great names of French and
international food industry.
Product launched in 2009 on the French territory, it was a real challenge and a risky bet on the
future. With recent changes in legislation on VAT in this sector, the decline in restaurant visits, the
concept of PastaBox represented an alternative compared to traditional catering.
External and Consumer s Environment
In recent years, studies show that the French take less time to eat during their lunch break. To save
time, assets eat convenience food, sandwiches or even food on Tupperware at their workplace.
Often cheaper, these products are increasingly available, as retailers that sell these products

Ringworm Essay
Ringworms is a contagious fungal infection that occasionally occurs on the surface of people or
animals skin. Ringworms can also be called tinea corporis. Children, athletics, and people who
change in locker rooms, are the most commonly people that can get affected by this infection.
People who has weakened immune system have more problem fighting off ringworms. Pets can
also have ringworminfection. People believe that ringworms is an infection that has something to
do with real worms, but we know that this is a fungal infection and has nothing to do with real
worms, it is just a rash on the surface of the skin, that is shaped like a ring. This infection can be

only common on humans, also on animals. Although the ringworm infection has been around for a
long time, most studies were not conducted on ringworm until men in the military began to get it

Great Palace In Constantinople Analysis
The second mosaic image from the Great Palace in Constantinople (500AD) is a very absorbing
piece that brings up many questions when you first look at it. Because Constantinople had a
strong tie with Chariot Racing, specifically at the Circus of Constantinople in the 6th century, it
can be assumed that this image has a connection to that. The first link is the two legs that look
like horse hooves in the top right area of the image, although you cannot tell for sure because the
image is cut off. Another association is the palm branches off to the right, which were a staple in
Chariot races as one of the prizes the victors would be able to hold and wear. The fact that there
is a lot of empty space in the middle signifies that this place had an area which the horses would be
able to run the races.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The wheels the two males are pushing or moving in the image could very well be chariot wheels,
and it is also a possibility that the man on the right is wheeling out replacement wheels as the
one on the left is taking in the damaged ones, or perhaps the man on the right is wheeling out
something to bring back the charioteers body on. Although there is certainly more evidence for
helpers on the track that assisted in clearing up crashes, which this definitely could be an example
of, I don t think that we should discredit the fact that this could also be men assisting in a wheel
change, similarly to what happens in Formula One Racing, and the post could have very likely
been a station that held each racers replacement parts. This is the main struggle when interpreting
images such as these with no real inscriptions and pieces missing. One can never truly know what
exactly an image is showing, and there could be many variables as to what the artist was trying to

Congenital Condition Of Congenital Heart Defects
Congenital heart defects are problems intrinsic to the heart that present at birth. They develop
during fetal growth in utero mainly due to genetic malformations, environmental factors, and
multifactorial reasons. The environment within which the fetus develops (the uterus) is a very
crucial contribution to normal fetal growth and development. It is common to find disruptions
within this microenvironment; the consequent effect being the disruption of normal growth and
organ developments. The timing is, however, important as well. During the first trimester, organs
are being crafted from primitive cells and tissues. Internal and external factors, therefore, take the

Solution Proposing a balanced scorecard Balanced scorecard is a set of measures, which give the
complete view of any business performance. Kaplan and Norton (1995) explained balanced
scorecard in following words: The balanced scorecard should translate a business unit s mission and
strategy into tangible objectives and measures. The measures represent a balance between external
measures for shareholders and customers and internal measures of critical business processes,
innovation and learning and growth. The measures are balance between outcome measures, the
results of past efforts, and the measures that drive future performance. And the scorecard is

History Development and Construction of a Classical Guitar
Carry out study of a Classical Guitar and write a report on its history, development and construction.
The classical guitar, sometimes called the Spanish or nylon strung guitar, consists of a hollow
body made with a top, back and sides constructed from thin pieces of wood carved and shaped to
give the familiar traditional figure of eight shape. A long narrow piece of wood, called the neck, is
attached to the body at one end and has, at the other end, a headstock to which are attached six
tuning pegs, each holds one of six nylon strings which it is able to tighten or loosen, for tuning the
guitar. The six nylon strings pass over the nut, a piece of bone inserted at the end of the neck to

They are usually either Western Red Cedar obtained from the West Coasts of the USA and Canada
or Spruce sourced from many countries throughout Europe (The Art and Craft of Making Classical
Guitars, page 69).
The top plate, cut to the traditional figure of eight shape, needs to be as thin as possible to allow
it vibrate freely, a thickness of between two and three millimetres is used (Guitarmaking,
tradition and technology, page104). Because it is a softwood it needs to be able to withstand
the pressures exerted on it by the strings and this is done by adding bracing. These are thin
wooden struts, made from the same wood as the top plate, glued to the underside in a fan shape
(see Figure 2), this bracing not only adds strength but it also controls the way it vibrates and
therefore has a big effect on the final sound. A sound hole is cut into the top plate, in a position
where it will intersect the end of the fret board at the nineteenth fret. A piece of binding is added
around the inside of the sound hole (called a rosette) primarily to keep moisture out from the cut
edge, although it has become very decorative and its design can often identify the luthier (Harry
Miller interview, September 1st 2011).

Typical Client Obstacles
Some of the typical obstacles that interfere with to a client s ability to access service across local
agencies are lack of child care, physical disabilities, mental health problems, limited transportation
and low literacy.
Child Care Low income families normally include children, partly because of younger family
heads. Statically lower income families include more children on average than higher income
families. Therefore, lower income families commonly face costly child care (Kimmel, 2001).
Physical Disability / Mental Health Problems Mental health and physical health are connected.
Mental health effects a person s ability to maintain proper physical health. Many mental illnesses,
such as depression and anxiety will affect people s ability to full participate in health promoting
behaviors. On the other hand, problems with physical health, such as chronic diseases, can impact
mental health and decrease a person s ability to participate in treatment and recover (Lando,

Limited Transportation Most low income households are lack the fund to keep up with the increase

and not included in the final Senate bill that passed (citation needed). There are three reasons why
the public option should to be reintroduced into the health care system: to help control premium
costs, increase marketplace competition in rural areas and increase the quality and diversity of
offered plans. Indeed, what is so important about the national option is that it will naturally
function as a benchmark , or price and care baseline, within the current insurance exchange system
mandated by the ACA (citation needed). By virtue of currently existing systems such as Medicare,
the public option will have access to superior negotiating leverage that will help keep private
competitive rates affordable. Indeed, according to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO),
administrative costs under the public Medicare plan are less than 2 percent of expenditures,
compared with approximately 11 percent of spending by private plans under Medicare Advantage
(Nichols et al. 6). Furthermore, according to the Medicare Payment

Prison Has A Huge Problem Within The United States
The United States is the world s leader of incarceration with 2.2 million people in jails and prisons;
having an increase in population rate of 500% over the past thirty years (The Sentencing Project,
2014). Of the 2.2 million individuals in these facilities, over one million are mentally ill persons.
According to the National Institute of Corrections, mentally ill offenders have strained the
correctional system. Since the deinstitutionalization of mentally ill from public hospitals in the
1990s, civilians with mental health issues are more likely to be free in the community, without any
programming and are more likely to inflict in criminal behavior. The prisonpopulation rate for
mentally ill offender makes up more than half the overall population. 78,000 in Federal prison,
705,600 in State prisons, and 479,000 in local jails. Overcrowding prison has become a huge
problem within the United States, which lead to seeking in alternative options. Since there isn t
enough space or resources applicable to provide for all those who are diagnosed with mental issues,
a shift to community supervision have taken place; probation and parole being the greatest form of
supervision. The National Institute of Corrections continues to state how parole and probation are
overrepresentation of those who are mentally ill, with rates two to four times greater than the
general population. Even with this being true, the combination of the cost of imprisonment,

Assess The Significance Of Suspense In The Film Jaws
Jaws 2 is a classic American horror film made in 1978, and directed by Jeannot Szwarc. It is
about a police chief s duty to deal with a giant great white shark, yet again. It takes place on a
fictional ocean side resort, but was actually filmed in Marthas Vineyard, Massachusetts and Navarre
Beach, Florida.
This message, was most definitely made to entertain. From the deep slow to fast high pitched
sounds, and gargled screams from the great whites victims, this scene and entire movie sends chills
down your spine. It is all about the suspenseful thrill that made the story so successful.
The scene starts out as a bright backlit girl waterskiing to show joy, with a hint of mystery. The
camera flashes back to behind the girl, where a large dorsal fin slides out of the water. As it does

Computer Industry And The World Of Mobile Phones
BY:DONTE. NETHERLANDS TECH .VS. USA TECH period3 Think different. It was more
than an advertising slogan. It was a manifesto, and with it, former Apple CEO Steve Jobs upended
the computer industry, the music industry and the world of mobile phones. The digital visionary s
next plan was to bring radical change to schools and textbook publishers, but he died of cancer
before he could do it
Some of the ideas that may have occurred to Jobs are now on display in the Netherlands. Eleven
Steve Jobs schools will open in August, with Amsterdam among the cities that will be hosting such
a facility. Some 1,000 children aged four to 12 will attend the schools, without notebooks, books
or backpacks. Each of them, however, will have his or her own iPad.
There will be no blackboards, chalk or classrooms, homeroom teachers, formal classes, lesson
plans, seating charts, pens, teachers teaching from the front of the room, schedules, parent teacher
meetings, grades, recess bells, fixed school days and school vacations. If a child would rather
play on his or her iPad instead of learning, it ll be okay. And the children will choose what they
wish to learn based on what they happen to be curious about.
Preparations are already underway in Breda, a town near Rotterdam where one of the schools is to
be located. Gertjan Kleinpaste, the 53 year old principal of the facility, is aware that his iPad

Feudal Society Structure
6. Q: What were the basic underlining structures what are found in each feudal society and what
purpose did these structures serve?
A: The fiefs under feudalism all contained basic structures that were essential in maintaining a fully
sustainable community. Some basic structures include water mills, houses, barns, and workshops,
all self explanatory. The three most important structures were the church, the manor, and a three
field crop rotation complex. The manor was considered the brain of the fief, which provided shelter
to the vassals and his staff, as well as a place for royal celebrations such as feasts. The church as a
part of daily life for everyone working of the fief, including the vassal, and was seen as the most

This was called Feudal Justice , and gave nobles the ability to create court cases to settle disputes
between the defendants and the accused. These courts usually ended with the accused having to
pay a fine, which brought considerable income to the nobles throne, however, ordeal by God and
trial by combat were considered equally as effective in proving innocence. This system of justice
brought the same political power of the feudal system itself, knights could not accuse the king, but
peasants could call other peasants to be accused. Under this system, the daily lives of peasants
could be brought into question, however, both the accused and the accuser would receive the same
treatment, and if the accused was not found guilty, the accuser would receive the punishment. This
created a system that discouraged the use of judicial courts for personal gain, and disallowed the

It seemed as if Harold never got past Erikson s stage of autonomy. The sense of autonomy
fostered in Harold at a young age was denied to him by his mother as she controlled him. In
contrast, Maude played a better role model to him than his mother. She acted wild and crazy and
continually demonstrated freedom. A freedom that his mother never gave Harold the
opportunity to indulge in. She philosophizes continuously about living life to utmost extremes,
about rebellion, individualism and spontaneity. Maude tells Harold that the world dearly loves a
cage and that humans should be as free as a bird. Maude gave the troubled young man a sense of
hope and life throughout as he was a team player not willing to come off the bench to play. She
introduced him to Glaucus who served as a message to Harold, one that he learns towards the
end of the movie. Glaucus days are a metaphor for the life span of a man. He is given a chance to
create beauty out of nothing, but is time is limited with which to do so as he works with a
medium that is hard to maintain. It was the carving of the ice that was important, not the ice itself.
Harold s success in life was not being pursued, it was to be attracted to the person he became
through her help. Nevertheless, she constantly instills in Harold that we are given the gift of life
and it is ours to enjoy and it is through her philosophies that Harold becomes a better man in the end

I have a dream? No everybody has a dreams! But Reaching a personal dream as an immigrant isn t

member to support their needs. My parents had no option, but give their hard earned money to
feed their sisters and brothers. On the other hand, like most people, my parents personal dream was

Was Julius Caesar Justified Essay
Julius Caesar, a play written by William Shakespeare, shows how a good leader needs to be able
to understand his people in order to succeed. In the play, loved and hated Caesar returns home
only to be murdered by the conspirators, which begins a civil war in Rome. Caesar s friends,
Brutus and Antony, feel they need to address the situation by giving a speech to the people.
Brutus uses rationalization to convince the crowd that killing Caesar was a favor to Rome, thus
revealing that he believed his actions were justified, while Antony uses concrete evidence to
humanize Caesar s image, displaying his loyalty to Caesar. For Caesar s funeral, Brutus employs
the trait of being naive by informing the crowd that the murder of Caesar was to benefit Rome.
Brutus attempts to justify his actions by implying his loyalties lie with the people because not
that [he] loved Caesar less but that [he] loved Rome more (Shakespeare 747). He is suggesting to
the people that he had sacrificed his friendship for Rome. Being naive, Brutus believes his people

Economics Is The Fundamental Force
No matter who you are, economics is integral to everything you do. The decisions one makes as a
consumer, employee, and voter impact his or her life in multiple aspects, often in ways that are not
obvious. The allocation of resources by companies, the government, and other people can alter your
economic opportunities greatly, and thus it is essential to understand how the choices that not only
you, but everyone and everything else makes, will alter your future. Doing so can can greatly

In turn, this will increase the demand for goods needed to make more cars, such as rubber and
metal. In addition, even more workers are hired to make cars (at least for a time), thus creating
even more jobs. In this way, your and everyone else s decision to consume cars has stimulated a
portion of the economy. Perhaps this stimulation results in an opportunity for you to gain a better
job, thus gaining you a higher wage, and raising your standard of living. This is entirely
hypothetical, yet plausible, scenario of how your contribution to the economy as a consumer could
enhance your economic opportunities. Your decision as a consumer can do more than stimulate the
growth of a business; it can contribute to the decline of one as well. For example, perhaps you
decide that you no longer wish to eat meat, and decide to go vegetarian. This may seem like a
relatively personal, and inconsequential decision, yet it is actually very influential. If a large
number of people decided to become vegetarian, the meat industry would take a direct hit:
obviously, there would be less meat demanded, and profits would decrease. Furthermore, as less
people demanded meat, the price would go down, as less people purchased meat and it became
harder to sell. Another effect this newfound vegetarianism would have is due to cross price
elasticity of meat and vegetables. As the demand of meats goes down, the price of vegetables and
grains would likely go up, as more are demanded.

Space Program Downfall
America has tossed its cap over the wall of space. John F. Kennedy
Introduction
On February 1st, 2003 seven Americans lost their lives while returning to earth after finishing a
mission for mankind. These Americans were aboard the space shuttle Challenger that broke apart
during reentry into the earth s atmosphere and was completely destroyed. After an extensive
investigation the cause of the accident was determined to be the result of a hole that was punctured
into the leading edge of the aircraft during takeoff (NASA). This hole resulted in an excess heating
on the leading edge of the wing and then the failure of the wing. This was just the physical cause of
the accident that destroyed the shuttle. There were other aspects ... Show more content on

From 1992 to 2001 when Daniel Goldin was NASAs administrator he brought in a torrent of
changes that both helped and hurt the program (ibid, p.105). Goldin brought opened a partnership
with the Russians with the International Space Station (ISS) in 1993, which helped ease the post
Cold war era (ibid, p.105). But Goldin also had the goal of reducing the engineering workforce that
was assigned to the Space Shuttle Program in order to move those skills to further space
exploration. This was a noble idea but without having a replacement vehicle in place prior to
changing mission might have been premature. With the facts presented in the CAIB it would
seem that Goldin s leadership goal was to be a cost effective organization while freeing up the
skilled labor to focus on other endeavors while the mundane shuttle maintenance was given to
contractors. This was all part of Goldin s plan to focus NASA s mission and strategy on select
issues.
Mission and Strategy During Goldin s time as NASA s administrator he saw two primary

was to focus the organization on space exploration with the principle purpose of Mars as a

The Cultural Landscape Of Asian And Latin American Countries
Abstract
Street markets have always been a significant aspect of the cultural landscape of Asian and Latin
American countries such as China, Thailand, India, Brazil and Mexico. These markets become
creators of vital public space and with time, through their actions, appropriate loose space and
make a permanent place for themselves in the collective memory of people, eventually contributing
to the cultural identity of these neighborhoods. Yet, this potential of markets to become successful
and vibrant social spaces and a solution to the class divided hierarchical cities of today, is often
not acknowledged or accepted by civic authorities. The State s policy towards these street markets

Informal Markets: Creators of Public Space
Public Markets play a central role in the formation of public culture and have an articulated
relationship with space and society. They morphologically shape space and also shape social
networks and economic systems. A large share of marketnot absorbed by formal economic activities
becomes a part of the informal market. It also represents a significant percentage of the national
economy, and guarantees jobs to a large number of people. They are rather a sign of heroic
entrepreneurship (Hernando de Soto 2000), or of informal survivalism as (Mike David 2004)
puts it, a primarily mode of livelihood in majority of the Third World countries. Through their act
of an informalized production of space, they maximize limited space or create space where no
space exists in commercially viable prime locations, thereby creating an economic opportunity out
of it and social space as a by product.
While market places fulfil economic considerations, by providing an alternative means of
livelihoods to millions, they also perform an indispensable social function by becoming communal
spaces, giving life to neighborhoods. Overtime, they become an intrinsic part of the cultural
landscape of any neighborhood or city and become places of social gathering at the street level.
They act as a catchment area for a community, and provide food, entertainment and social

General Partner (Gp). If A Fund Is Created Then Obliviously
General Partner (GP)
If a fund is created then obliviously you need a person to manage it. This is done by General
Partner (GP). GP makes all decisions about the private equity fund and is also in charge of
managing the fund s portfolio. The portfolio will contains all of the fund s investments.
General partner is paid either by way of a management fee or it can be by way of compensation.
Management fee is a fixed percentage of total amount of the fund s capital. Generally this fee range
from 1% to 2% annually of the capital committed.
For example if Assets under management is 100bn than a 2% management fee would be $2bn.
These fees are utilised for admin purpose and to cover expense such as salaries, deal fees paid to

So GP contributed only 5% in the fund.
The GP agter receiving funds would invests all of the capital in acquiring companies. As few years
pass by, they exit all their portfolio companies for $2B total. The LPs get $ 860Mn back first that s
returning their capital. That leaves $1.14 B left, and it s divided up 80 / 20 between LPs and GP.
So the LPs get $ 912M and the GP gets $228M. So the GP invested $40M at the start, but gets
back $200M in profits. GP thus made a 5x return in this fund.
Sometimes carried interest is in form of equity.
Interest in a fund is allocated as shares. This interest is based on each Limited Partner s capital
contribution, with a certain percentage of these shares (which would be typically 20%) allocated to
the General Partner as carry. Carry shares more often than not have a multi year vesting period that
tracks investments made.
Equity carry is split between senior executives at the private equity firm. There are many flavors of
carried interest so doing an apples to apples comparison of two different carry packages is often
difficult.
Performance fees motivate the private equity firms to generate superior realized returns. These fees
are intended to align the interests of the general partner and its LPs.
Hurdle Rate
However, many PE firms allow this performance fee post Hurdle rate. So the General Partner will
receives the carry that is performance fee only when the fund generates profits above a certain

Depreciation vs Depletion
The concept and practice of depreciation and depletion play an integral part in a company s cash
flow and profit or loss statements. Depreciation, according to investopedia is a method of
allocating the cost of a tangible asset over its useful life. Depletion is very similar to depreciation
with very subtle differences, the first one being what is depreciated verses depleted. All assets
(except land) are depreciated but the assets with natural resources are depleted. The methods on
how depreciationand depletion are calculated vary as well. Each will be visited in this essay.

The first step is to sum the digits or numbers starting with the life and going back to one. For
example, an asset with a life of 5 would have a sum of digits as follows: 5+ 4+ 3 +2 + 1 = 15
To find the percentage for each year divide the year s digit by the sum. In the example above the
percentage would be calculated as follows:

The Impact of United States Presidential Elections on the...
How other countries view America s position in the world varies not only based on America s
actions within the international arena, or foreign policy, but also how Americans view the
actions of their leaders and policy makers. For both internal and external views, America s
standing revolves around two primary elements how well the US government does what it says
it is going to do and how well it stands up to threats against it. While these are not the only
elements considered, America s credibility and pride are viewed as key to how well it will
respond to interactions both within and outside its borders. A country s world view, or standing,
can vary over time and be impacted by a number of things such as where a country is located,...

1 Change came about slowly. The election of 1796 was the first with two individuals running for
President. John Adams was selected as the Presidential candidate by the Federalists and Thomas
Jefferson was selected by the Republicans. International issues became a factor for the first time
with the Federalists branding the Republicans as Jacobins after Robespierre s revolutionary
faction in France. The Republicans opposed a recently negotiated treaty with Great Britain which
the Federalists believed was the only way to avoid a potential war with Britain. The Democratic
Republicans tended to side with France while the Federalists sided with Great Britain. America
understood the importance of world events on our country, but other countries paid little attention
to us.1 In the 1812 Presidential election, James Madison was re elected president by a very narrow
margin. The War of 1812, which had begun five months earlier, was the dominant issue. Opposition
to the war was concentrated in the northeastern Federalist states. In the Northeast Madison carried
only Pennsylvania and Vermont, but Clinton received no votes south of Maryland. The election
proved to be the last one of significance for the Federalist party, largely owing to anti British
American nationalism engendered by the war. However, the War of 1812 made other

My Design Of Sighting A Gun
I.The purpose for my design is to speed up the process of sighting a gun in, the scope to take into
compensate the parabolic launch of a bullet, and to hit to target bulls eye. Sighting in a gun
requires a long trial and error process that any hunter, marine, or police sniper would agree upon.
As a bullet is fired from a rifle it rises a few inches for about one hundred yards or more where it
descends below the axis of the barrel. The scope looks like any other scope but will account for
the parabolic launch and relocate its self to the correct position for the most accurate shot. Nikon is
a company that produces quality scopes and would be a good contestant for the idea. They support
their products being brighter, clearer, precise, and rugged, but these are just a few of the attributes
knowledgeable hunters commonly use to describe Nikon riflescopes. Nikon is determined to bring
hunters, shooters, and sportsmen a wide selection of the best huntingoptics money can buy while at
the same time pushing the envelope to create revolutionary capabilities for the serious hunter
(Nikon). The design would also need an electrical engineer to design the wiring and microchips
/sensors, but a mechanical engineer from Power Electrics would also be needed to fit the motor for
the positioning of the scope. I would like to arrange a meeting for all of us to discuss and perfect
the idea. II.The scope, Buck Slayer by Slade Mills and Nikon, will be about the same size as any

Developmental Stages And Theories From Birth From Adolescence
Developmental Stages and Theories from Birth to Adolescence
Neurological Development
According to the Urban Child Institute, the first three years of development are a crucial time for
brain development. The human nervous system starts to develop at around day eighteen after
conception (Carlson, 2014, p. 55). The brain stem is vital to instinctive functions, such as reflexes,
breathing, and heart rate (Urban Child Institute , 2016). These are functions in the body that just
happen without thinking about doing anything. The cerebrum is a large portion of the brain, which
connects the cerebellum to the brain stem (Urban Child Institute , 2016). This part of the brain is
where complex processes like memory and learning take place. The exterior of the cerebrum is the
cerebral cortex, this part is not fully developed until adulthood and this is where sophisticated
activities, such as planning and decision making are taking place (Urban Child Institute , 2016).
The brain is also broken into four smaller pieces called lobes, they are the occipital lobe, parietal
lobe, temporal lobe, and frontal lobe. The occipital lobe is in the back of the brain and is in charge
of vision. The parietal lobe is related to bodily sensations such as your body temperature, pressure
and pain (Urban Child Institute , 2016). The temporal lobe is intricate to hearing, language skills,
social understanding, and observations of people s eyes and faces (Urban Child Institute , 2016).
The frontal lobe is

Absurdism In The Stranger
Albert Camus utilizes an existential philosophy, absurdism, in his story, The Stranger . Absurdism
is when humans live meaningless lives in an irrational universe. Meursault, the protagonist in The
Stranger , has an absurdist view to life, which the story revolves around. Meursault s unique view
of life is unique and different from the ethics of the society. Absurdismplays a key role in Meursault
s life as the absurd suninfluences his actions while his absurdist philosophies make him a stranger
to society. The absurd sun physically weakens Meursault leading him to make irrational decisions.
The sun is symbolic in The Strangeras it presents the irrationality in Meursault s universe. The sun
is a recurring symbol in the story and the first instance where it displays the irrationality in
Meursault s world is when Meursault is faced with the Arab at the beach as the sun was starting
to burn [his] cheeks, and [he] could feel drops of sweat...It was this burning that made [him]
move forward (58). Meursault encounters the Arab and the intense weather dictates his actions
and makes Meursault think irrationally. The use of the words made him show how the sun
dictates his actions, which is completely irrational. When Meursault is physically weakened in
any form he thinks irrationally. In this case, the sun weakens him physically as it is burning and
leads him to step forward thinking he could get the sun off of him, which is irrational. The
irrationality of the weather dictating Meursault s actions is absurdism. As Meursault makes his
journey to the Arabs at the spring he realizes that all [he] had to do was turn around and that
would be the end of it. But, the whole beach, throbbing in the sun, was pressing on [his] back.
[He] took a few steps toward the spring (58). Meursault is aware that all he needs to do is turn
back; however he takes a few steps forward showing how the sun dictates his actions. Furthermore,
Meursault is physically weakened as the intense heat was pressing on his back leading to his
irrational thought to disregard his mind and move forward. Throughout the story, Meursault is
constantly led into irrational thought when physically weakened. An absurdist world is defined to
be one

Star Wars Nonverbal Communication
Throughout the movie of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith you can see a plethora of examples of
interpersonal communication between the due of Obi Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker. The
major three that are seen throughout the film are conflict, emotions, and their nonverbal
communication. The conflict is the most serious compenment in this movie because you can sense
the conflict that is brewing, and when it explodes, it is massive. The conflict that is used in this
film is what makes the emotions of the film so exuberant. Then with these two characters being
together as master and apprentice in the two previous films of the trilogy their non verbal
communication is key to their relationship. Being able to have good interpersonal communication
is key to any duo, and Obi Wan and Anakin show that they have this chemistry.
A major concept throughout the movie is the conflict that goes on between the characters of Obi
Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker. Described by Floyd (2017), as an expressed struggle between
interdependent [parties who perceive incompatible goals, scarce resources, and interference from
one another (p. 343). There are many characteristic of interpersonal conflict, a few include, conflict
is natural, conflict can direct and indirect, and conflict can be harmful and beneficial. Sex, gender,
and culture are just some of the many things that can affect an interpersonal conflict. Another major
aspect of conflict is power, which comes in many forms (Floyd, 2017).

  • 2. The Human Cost Of An Illiterate Society Summary The lack of knowledge deprives many individuals, from the essence of a better quality of life. The Human Cost of an Illiterate Society , written by Jonathan Kozol, who is an American writer and educator; discusses the negative effects that society has brought upon illiterate people. Unfortunately, the majority of illiterate individuals suffer from poverty, and are raised in households where their parents could not read or write. In this case, they are subjected to grow in an environment that is deficient of educational skills. The terrible outcome of this, is that the cycle of illiteracy continues to pass on from generation to generation. One of the most critical claims made about our free enterprise market system is that it is a just way of solving the economic problems of producing and distributing goods as fairly as possible throughout the whole society (Above the Bottom Line 3rd Edition, 2004, p. 320). So what is the difference between capitalism and free enterprise? Leftista is gives definitions of both of these. Free Enterprise is your right to engage in the building, provisions, and/or selling of a product or service (Free Enterprise vs Capitalism). Capitalism is defined as, the philosophy and strategy of the placement and the positioning of large blocks of capital (Free Enterprise vs Capitalism). Capitalism is not a solitary idea. Capitalism is not just an economic system; it is also an ethical framework in which the question of what a person has earned or deserves plays a particularly important role (Above the Bottom Line 3rd Edition, 2004, p. 327). With that said the concept of what a person deserves is not a simple one. If it was, then there would be less questions sounding it. Karl Marx recognized capitalism is a certain way. • 7. My Life Reflection Paper Literature and writing have had an affect on my life starting from my early childhood and continues to influence me as I end my 11th year of school. From children s pop up books to 500 page novels reading has always taken part in developing my life. From learning to write my name to using vigorous research and planning to construct a 7 page paper over the Scarlet Letterand the unfortunate events little Hester Prynneis forced to deal with, along with the thrilling task analyzing two juxtaposed literary works. Throughout my life writingand literature have helped to guide me in life and aides in my everyday life. In grades kindergarten through seventh I attended school at Piqua Catholic and more times than not was unsatisfactory in my writing and literature skills. I always seemed to be the kid that fell behind when reading a book or was constantly spelling words incorrectly. It was not that I did not care or never did my work, I tried but nothing ever clicked for me. Tutoring was brought up in chat among my parents but they hoped that it would click eventually. My mother acted as my own personal tutor at times. In preparation for spelling tests we would take a cookie sheet and cover it in shaving cream. After my mom gave me a word I would spell it out in the shaving cream. This helped me to visualize the words while incorporating some fun into studying. First grade was nightmare for me, My teacher, Mrs. Quarter had suggested to my parents that I be held back because I was so far behind compared to the other children in my class. At times we would read together in class, taking turns by going around the room. It was embarrassing when the book came to me and every other word I would stumble and need help with pronunciation. Although Mrs. Quarter suggested I be held back a year that was not what she wanted. At times she would stay after school with me to practice reading with me which greatly benefited me. With Mrs. Quarters help my reading and writing greatly improved and by the end of my second grade year I was on honor roll. As I grew older and transferred to Troy City Schools I felt that my classes had gotten easier, especially English. I excelled in English, I will credit my English teacher Mrs. ... Great Palace In Constantinople Analysis The second mosaic image from the Great Palace in Constantinople (500AD) is a very absorbing piece that brings up many questions when you first look at it. Because Constantinople had a strong tie with Chariot Racing, specifically at the Circus of Constantinople in the 6th century, it can be assumed that this image has a connection to that. The first link is the two legs that look like horse hooves in the top right area of the image, although you cannot tell for sure because the image is cut off. Another association is the palm branches off to the right, which were a staple in Chariot races as one of the prizes the victors would be able to hold and wear. Although there is certainly more evidence for helpers on the track that assisted in clearing up crashes, which this definitely could be an example of, I don t think that we should discredit the fact that this could also be men assisting in a wheel change, similarly to what happens in Formula One Racing, and the post could have very likely been a station that held each racers replacement parts. The top plate, cut to the traditional figure of eight shape, needs to be as thin as possible to allow it vibrate freely, a thickness of between two and three millimetres is used (Guitarmaking, tradition and technology, page104). Because it is a softwood it needs to be able to withstand the pressures exerted on it by the strings and this is done by adding bracing. These are thin wooden struts, made from the same wood as the top plate, glued to the underside in a fan shape (see Figure 2), this bracing not only adds strength but it also controls the way it vibrates and therefore has a big effect on the final sound. A sound hole is cut into the top plate, in a position where it will intersect the end of the fret board at the nineteenth fret. A piece of binding is added around the inside of the sound hole (called a rosette) primarily to keep moisture out from the cut edge, although it has become very decorative and its design can often identify the luthier (Harry Miller interview, September 1st 2011). However, it was later removed by the Senate Financial Committee and not included in the final Senate bill that passed (citation needed). There are three reasons why the public option should to be reintroduced into the health care system: to help control premium costs, increase marketplace competition in rural areas and increase the quality and diversity of offered plans. Indeed, what is so important about the national option is that it will naturally function as a benchmark , or price and care baseline, within the current insurance exchange system mandated by the ACA (citation needed). By virtue of currently existing systems such as Medicare, the public option will have access to superior negotiating leverage that will help keep private competitive rates affordable. Indeed, according to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), administrative costs under the public Medicare plan are less than 2 percent of expenditures, compared with approximately 11 percent of spending by private plans under Medicare Advantage (Nichols et al. 6). Prison Has A Huge Problem Within The United States The United States is the world s leader of incarceration with 2.2 million people in jails and prisons; having an increase in population rate of 500% over the past thirty years (The Sentencing Project, 2014). Of the 2.2 million individuals in these facilities, over one million are mentally ill persons. According to the National Institute of Corrections, mentally ill offenders have strained the correctional system. Since the deinstitutionalization of mentally ill from public hospitals in the 1990s, civilians with mental health issues are more likely to be free in the community, without any programming and are more likely to inflict in criminal behavior. The prisonpopulation rate for mentally ill offender makes up more than half the overall population. 78,000 in Federal prison, 705,600 in State prisons, and 479,000 in local jails. Overcrowding prison has become a huge problem within the United States, which lead to seeking in alternative options. Since there isn t enough space or resources applicable to provide for all those who are diagnosed with mental issues, a shift to community supervision have taken place; probation and parole being the greatest form of supervision. The National Institute of Corrections continues to state how parole and probation are overrepresentation of those who are mentally ill, with rates two to four times greater than the general population. It was a manifesto, and with it, former Apple CEO Steve Jobs upended the computer industry, the music industry and the world of mobile phones. The digital visionary s next plan was to bring radical change to schools and textbook publishers, but he died of cancer before he could do it Some of the ideas that may have occurred to Jobs are now on display in the Netherlands. Eleven Steve Jobs schools will open in August, with Amsterdam among the cities that will be hosting such a facility. A: The fiefs under feudalism all contained basic structures that were essential in maintaining a fully sustainable community. Some basic structures include water mills, houses, barns, and workshops, all self explanatory. The three most important structures were the church, the manor, and a three field crop rotation complex. The manor was considered the brain of the fief, which provided shelter to the vassals and his staff, as well as a place for royal celebrations such as feasts. These courts usually ended with the accused having to pay a fine, which brought considerable income to the nobles throne, however, ordeal by God and trial by combat were considered equally as effective in proving innocence. This system of justice brought the same political power of the feudal system itself, knights could not accuse the king, but peasants could call other peasants to be accused. Under this system, the daily lives of peasants could be brought into question, however, both the accused and the accuser would receive the same treatment, and if the accused was not found guilty, the accuser would receive the punishment. This is entirely hypothetical, yet plausible, scenario of how your contribution to the economy as a consumer could enhance your economic opportunities. Your decision as a consumer can do more than stimulate the growth of a business; it can contribute to the decline of one as well. For example, perhaps you decide that you no longer wish to eat meat, and decide to go vegetarian. This may seem like a relatively personal, and inconsequential decision, yet it is actually very influential. If a large number of people decided to become vegetarian, the meat industry would take a direct hit: obviously, there would be less meat demanded, and profits would decrease. Furthermore, as less people demanded meat, the price would go down, as less people purchased meat and it became harder to sell. Another effect this newfound vegetarianism would have is due to cross price elasticity of meat and vegetables. As the demand of meats goes down, the price of vegetables and grains would likely go up, as more are demanded. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. The Impact of United States Presidential Elections on the... How other countries view America s position in the world varies not only based on America s actions within the international arena, or foreign policy, but also how Americans view the actions of their leaders and policy makers. For both internal and external views, America s standing revolves around two primary elements how well the US government does what it says it is going to do and how well it stands up to threats against it. While these are not the only elements considered, America s credibility and pride are viewed as key to how well it will respond to interactions both within and outside its borders. A country s world view, or standing, can vary over time and be impacted by a number of things such as where a country is located,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 1 Change came about slowly. The election of 1796 was the first with two individuals running for President. John Adams was selected as the Presidential candidate by the Federalists and Thomas Jefferson was selected by the Republicans. International issues became a factor for the first time with the Federalists branding the Republicans as Jacobins after Robespierre s revolutionary faction in France. The Republicans opposed a recently negotiated treaty with Great Britain which the Federalists believed was the only way to avoid a potential war with Britain. The Democratic Republicans tended to side with France while the Federalists sided with Great Britain. America understood the importance of world events on our country, but other countries paid little attention to us.1 In the 1812 Presidential election, James Madison was re elected president by a very narrow margin. The War of 1812, which had begun five months earlier, was the dominant issue. Opposition to the war was concentrated in the northeastern Federalist states. In the Northeast Madison carried only Pennsylvania and Vermont, but Clinton received no votes south of Maryland. The election proved to be the last one of significance for the Federalist party, largely owing to anti British American nationalism engendered by the war. However, the War of 1812 made other ... • 45. My Design Of Sighting A Gun I.The purpose for my design is to speed up the process of sighting a gun in, the scope to take into compensate the parabolic launch of a bullet, and to hit to target bulls eye. Sighting in a gun requires a long trial and error process that any hunter, marine, or police sniper would agree upon. As a bullet is fired from a rifle it rises a few inches for about one hundred yards or more where it descends below the axis of the barrel. The scope looks like any other scope but will account for the parabolic launch and relocate its self to the correct position for the most accurate shot. Nikon is a company that produces quality scopes and would be a good contestant for the idea. They support their products being brighter, clearer, precise, and rugged, but these are just a few of the attributes knowledgeable hunters commonly use to describe Nikon riflescopes. Nikon is determined to bring hunters, shooters, and sportsmen a wide selection of the best huntingoptics money can buy while at the same time pushing the envelope to create revolutionary capabilities for the serious hunter (Nikon). The design would also need an electrical engineer to design the wiring and microchips /sensors, but a mechanical engineer from Power Electrics would also be needed to fit the motor for the positioning of the scope. I would like to arrange a meeting for all of us to discuss and perfect the idea. II.The scope, Buck Slayer by Slade Mills and Nikon, will be about the same size as any other ... • 46. Developmental Stages And Theories From Birth From Adolescence Developmental Stages and Theories from Birth to Adolescence Neurological Development According to the Urban Child Institute, the first three years of development are a crucial time for brain development. The human nervous system starts to develop at around day eighteen after conception (Carlson, 2014, p. 55). The brain stem is vital to instinctive functions, such as reflexes, breathing, and heart rate (Urban Child Institute , 2016). These are functions in the body that just happen without thinking about doing anything. The cerebrum is a large portion of the brain, which connects the cerebellum to the brain stem (Urban Child Institute , 2016). This part of the brain is where complex processes like memory and learning take place. The exterior of the cerebrum is the cerebral cortex, this part is not fully developed until adulthood and this is where sophisticated activities, such as planning and decision making are taking place (Urban Child Institute , 2016). The brain is also broken into four smaller pieces called lobes, they are the occipital lobe, parietal lobe, temporal lobe, and frontal lobe. The occipital lobe is in the back of the brain and is in charge of vision. The parietal lobe is related to bodily sensations such as your body temperature, pressure and pain (Urban Child Institute , 2016). The temporal lobe is intricate to hearing, language skills, social understanding, and observations of people s eyes and faces (Urban Child Institute , 2016). The frontal lobe is ... • 47. Absurdism In The Stranger Albert Camus utilizes an existential philosophy, absurdism, in his story, The Stranger . Absurdism is when humans live meaningless lives in an irrational universe. Meursault, the protagonist in The Stranger , has an absurdist view to life, which the story revolves around. Meursault s unique view of life is unique and different from the ethics of the society. Absurdismplays a key role in Meursault s life as the absurd suninfluences his actions while his absurdist philosophies make him a stranger to society. The absurd sun physically weakens Meursault leading him to make irrational decisions. The sun is symbolic in The Strangeras it presents the irrationality in Meursault s universe. The sun is a recurring symbol in the story and the first instance where it displays the irrationality in Meursault s world is when Meursault is faced with the Arab at the beach as the sun was starting to burn [his] cheeks, and [he] could feel drops of sweat...It was this burning that made [him] move forward (58). Meursault encounters the Arab and the intense weather dictates his actions and makes Meursault think irrationally. The use of the words made him show how the sun dictates his actions, which is completely irrational. When Meursault is physically weakened in any form he thinks irrationally. In this case, the sun weakens him physically as it is burning and leads him to step forward thinking he could get the sun off of him, which is irrational. The irrationality of the weather dictating Meursault s actions is absurdism. As Meursault makes his journey to the Arabs at the spring he realizes that all [he] had to do was turn around and that would be the end of it. But, the whole beach, throbbing in the sun, was pressing on [his] back. [He] took a few steps toward the spring (58). Meursault is aware that all he needs to do is turn back; however he takes a few steps forward showing how the sun dictates his actions. Furthermore, Meursault is physically weakened as the intense heat was pressing on his back leading to his irrational thought to disregard his mind and move forward. Throughout the story, Meursault is constantly led into irrational thought when physically weakened. An absurdist world is defined to be one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Star Wars Nonverbal Communication Throughout the movie of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith you can see a plethora of examples of interpersonal communication between the due of Obi Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker.
