2. Bowling For Columbine Documentary Essay
Documentary reflection
The assignment task for Term two was for a small group of people (three), to create a documentary
and then each person to write a reflection. Before starting this documentary, we studied the history
and development of documentaries. We then looked more into how different documentaries,
Spellbound (objective) and Bowling for Columbine (subjective), how each separate style was
created and made and how each different style affected people.
We ran into conflict when we were choosing what topic for our documentary. We all had many
ideas but most of them we had to rule out because they would not be suitable for Year 5 and 6. The
target audience only left us a few ideas. This is because when we first started off thinking ... Show

We added some funny videos to please the target audience.
We interviewed most of or interviewees in a classroom. The reason why we choose this area is
that because when a student is at school, they are constantly in a classroom. So soon enough
many feel more comfortable in a classroom than other places. We interviewed some grade tens
were their bags are. We assumed they would be more honest if they were interviewed
somewhere that was familiar and in a sense comforting because if they feel comfortable, they
would normally be more truthful. We chose to do a mid shot because when most people are
nervous, they tend to move their feet and we didn t want to show them nervous to be interviewed.
We also used different camera angles to show different people. Some were smaller, so we lowered
the angle and where the camera was positioned.
From watching Bowling for Columbine and Spellbound , we decided to choose a subjective
documentary because we were all more interested in Bowling for Columbine than Spellbound .
When editing we looked at what Bowling for Columbine did with editing things together and things
out to get what our point across more affected.
When working in a group, we found it hard to balance out the roles, but I think we did. I was the
editor and camera person which is a great duo because I imagined what I wanted to do with the
filming and just had to ask

3. What Every American Should Know By Eric Liu
Interpretative essay
What every American should know by Eric Liu thoroughly examines the issue of cultural literacy
and its place in modern America. It takes on a convincing argument against E.D. Hirsch s book on
the same which included some 5000 things that he thought define cultural literacy and every
American should know. Liu argues that America has changed over time, becoming more
multicultural, and to capture the cultural literacy of the country, no one person should sit down and
come up with what they think everyone else should know. Instead he suggests that in order to
capture the view of the nation, every American should be involved in the making of the list. The
most engaging part of this article is Liu s idea that this new list that is crowd sourced should
always change according to the times. It should not be cast in stone because things in this day
and age change really fast; what is a hit this month will be old news in the next one. This is what
cultural literacy really is; keeping up with what is going on around you and being open to learn
new things as they emerge. This can also be said of education; in order to stay educated in any
field, you have to be in the know of in terms of new developments.
The conversation and debates on cultural literacy should continue in every place in America since
it helps us to understand and be tolerant of other cultures around us (Gay 2010). When we are
familiar with all or some of the things that define America as a culture,

Does the Pharmaceutical Industry Have Too Much Power in Law and Healthcare?
The pharmaceutical industry has been taking advantage of healthcare by implementing laws
modeled to benefit the industry greatly, while consumers have struggled. The drug industry uses
their own sources and self sponsored research to further their influence in healthcare. Although the
pharmaceutical industry provides healthcare with good medical resources, it is highly costly for
consumers due to the manipulation of laws and healthcare. The industry is biased and sponsors its
own research to gain more funding, which typically goes to waste. Science is always looking to
improve, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The amount that companies are spending is also a big factor that contributes to the issue, most
start out companies are seen getting ideas and research from universities and other companies, but
these companies typically do not utilize them the way they should. Again this is because laws put
in place by the industry prevent them from doing so. Price controls that reduce prices too low
reduce output and capacity, lower the quality of the services that are provided, and diminish the
incentives for innovation, including ongoing R D . The industry has no excuse however, because
the manipulation of drug prices has almost backfired on them. People have become aware that the
pricing is ridiculously high, and the industry is quite getting everything they need. The industry has
created most of the problems they are trying to solve today and continue to seemingly make worse
the problems on purpose. Pharmaceutical companies are struggling to appease the public because
of the laws the industry have implemented, smaller companies usually fail because of the needs for
profit, and other needs to keep companies alive. Pharmaceutical companies have been taking
advantage of the public and taxpayer money for decades, with legislation allowing

5. The Effects Of Socioeconomic Status On Multicultural...
Daily living in the United States has caused many to fall in the clutches of health issues, anxiety,
and depression. Americans have become over whelmed with the worries and struggles of, social
conditions, the racial crisis, and financial difficulties. Unfortunately, there are so many that are not
recognizing these mental obstacles and are carrying on, baring the weight as if these feelings are
normal. This qualifies as Socioeconomic Status(SES). Socioeconomic Status encompasses all of
those factors that exceed one s physical health,......... social conditions, ...... one s sense of well
being...... They are often hindered in their attempts at conquering the disparities that permeate their
reality. (Wimberley, 2015) Within marginalized populations SES is considered a prime predictor of
health/wealth disparities. This situation has reached and all time high with depression alone
affecting 14 million adults each year. (Wimberley, 2015)
Socioeconomic Status has an impact on multicultural social work practice. SES is commonly
conceptualized as the social standing or class of an individual or group. (Association, 2016) In the
United States, a person or family is considered to be living in poverty if their aggregate income is
less than their earned threshold. (Proctor, 2015) This pertains to social work practice, because
many of Americans are feeling the pressures of keeping up with the threshold of society, and at the
same time appear to be focused. Social work

Womack s The Machine That Changed the World, and Milkman s The New Linden jointly tell a
story regarding the development, practice, and global adoption of lean production by auto
manufacturers in the mid 20th Century. Furthermore, these writings support the notion that during
this time period, the American workplace was rapidly changing, which held varying implications
for the worker, management, and unions. With the rise of lean production came an improvement in
labor management relations with focus on the individual through stronger job protections, and
positive interactions between employees and technology in the workspace. Despite this, these
improvements came at the cost of decreased union influence, and the ability to... Show more content

This was achieved via the creation of quality circles, where individual workers could contribute
suggestions to improve the production process, and increasing job security (and consequently
worker loyalty) through lifetime employment and seniority based pay. (Womack 54 56). After the
Japanese auto industry became increasingly competitive with its American counterpart, auto
companies like GM decided to adopt most, if not all practices included in lean manufacturing. This
manifested in the creation of the NUMMI plant, which was a joint effort between GM and Toyota,
and the development of Saturn, a GM subsidiary that exclusively used the practices of lean
production. At these factories, the adoption of lean production generally held the same benefits for
American workers as it did with Japanese workers. What proves ironic in the case of the NUMMI
and Saturn plant, is the fact that the UAW and GM negotiated the terms of employment prior the
factories opening. (Milkman 139) Considering that these plants generally provided the employee
with a positive working experience, emphasized the role of the individual in the team concept, and
consequently removed the need for collective bargaining, the collaborative effort between the UAW
and GM in developing these plants ultimately impeded the influence that the UAW had. In a society
that perceived unions as corrupt and untrustworthy, and not necessarily in the interests of workers,

The site provides almost everything that a person needs for living and working in Tokyo. The most
distinct feature of Roppongi Hills, however, is not their immense and luxurious looks, but the
enormously long and complicated process to compete the project which may be unimaginable for
Jane Jacobs. In 1986, TV Asahi Co., which owned the main part of the location, decided to make a
new headquarters building there and consulted the Minato Ward Office and Mori Building Co. The
Ward suggested that they should also redevelop the surrounding area since it was packed with
wooden houses, small apartments, and condominiums with narrow streets which made it difficult
for fire engines to come into the area in an emergency. After the district was officially designated as
a redevelopment inducement area by Tokyo Metropolitan Government in the same year, Mori
Building started to negotiate with the residents there. According to Mori Building, their first
contact with the residents was totally unwelcoming. Most of the residents did not listen to them at

8. Icarus, By Edward Field Essay
Kylie Slaten Ms. Thompson Ap Literature Period 2 2 November, 2015 Icarus In the poem
Icarus by Edward Field is alluding to the myth of Icarus and Daedalus which is set in a
contemporary setting. The poem takes a spin on the myth were instead of Icarus drowning, he
is set in today s world as the fall of the great hero, nothing but an ordinary man. It reveals that
Icarus cannot handle being just ordinary and wishes he had drowned. (line 30). Through
imagery, diction and irony Fields uses a contemporary setting to convey the life of Icarus who is
living as a man who once achieved greatness. Edward Fields uses the setting to connect the
imagery of the poem which sets the tone and shows how Icarus is living in a new society. The
first stanza describes the tragic death of Icarus. Then the third stanza shows how Icarus is living
in his new life. The first stanza is describing Icarus s death at a crime scene, where there were
witnesses. so the report filed and forgotten in the archives. (line 6). This line shows that Icarus
was forgotten about, what happened at the scene did not mean much to the people that were there
as they ran off to a gang war (5). Then in stanza three where the setting changes to a more
contemporary, current societal lifestyle where Mr Hicks who is aging in the suburbs and living as
the hero who fell. to the middling stature of the merely talented. (line 20). This shows that Icarus is

9. Essay on Walt Whitman
Walt Whitman
In parting with traditional poetic formalities, Walt Whitman alleviated a burden that impeded his
ability to achieve full poetic expression. To Whitman, the strict boundaries that formal meter,
structure, and rhyme imposed set limits on his stylistic freedom. This is not to say that these limits
prevented Whitman from conveying his themes. Rather, they presented a contradiction to which
Whitman refused to conform. In Whitman s eyes, to meet these formal guidelines one would also
have to sacrifice the ability to express qualities and passion of living men. Thus, Whitman contested
traditional poetic protocol because it added a layer of superficiality that concerned itself with
creating perfect rhythmical, metrical, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This meant that stanzas consisted of a predetermined amount of lines or that the poem had a
predetermined amount of stanzas. Augmenting this formal structure were predetermined rhyme
schemes (such as abab cdcd efef gg in Shakespearean sonnets). Based on the above, we can describe
traditional poetic etiquette as adhering to the suggested formal patterns predetermined by the
tradition of British poetry. Just in reaching the above conclusion, a problem arises that all poets, not
just Whitman, face when trying to conform to this style. This problem is that all of these rules are
cumbersome. It is difficult for a poet to convey the theme of a poem when he or she is concerned
with whether or not each word fits into a designated formal pattern. Yet, some would argue that this
is what makes poetry such an elegant art form. Surely, Whitman recognized the genius found in
Shakespeare s sonnets and other constitutive examples of traditional British poetry. However,
whether or not Whitman recognized the genius of great traditional British poets, is inconsequential.
What did matter was whether or not Whitman felt that this style was appropriate for him. The
answer is no. Whitman found problems not simply with the fact that clinging to the traditional style
might be burdensome (surely this would not have been an insurmountable task for Whitman), but
his main issue with traditional style concerned the ornamental effect of formal regularity:

If someone has seen a crime taken place, and they are either the victim, or a witness; then that
person would be under pressure by authorities to remember what has taken place in order for a
case to be resolved. This article was interesting to me in that I did not know all that took place
when doing an investigation when the police are trying to identify a criminal involving a crime
that had just been committed. This article reminds me of what we have been reading in the book

Then when it is time to recall what had happened; their memory could be blocked because they

making them lose detail and accuracy of what really when on, and a person could mix up facts,
and ideas of what had happened because they were either scared for their own lives, and did not
really focus on the situation at hand, or they blanked out, and only saw certain scenes.
When reading about the latent fingerprint evidence I did not know that a person s fingerprints could
be mixed up with someone else s; thus causing them to be accused of a crime that they did not
commit. This latent fingerprint description surprised me on how the police officials perform taking
fingerprints on crime scenes, and in the different forms that they can take them. What makes me
wonder is that how can two different people s fingerprints become concluded as the same person by
running it through a machine that s supposed to know one person from another. As with the case of
the two men in Madrid who was mixed up because of faulty latent prints that were taken, and run

Texas is known to have reduced its homeless percentage by 42% since the year of 2007. This

population is dropping because they are improving on their funding and supporting and they have
advanced on their newest methods for housing. Texas advocacies have impacted on homeless
people because these advocacies provided shelter, clothing and food. It is partially the homeless

Hulga Hopewell, a pessimistic atheist, who lives in an old fashioned country home alongside her
mother, Mrs. Hopewell, some others include the farmhand, Mrs. Freeman, and Mrs. Freeman s two
daughters, Carramae and Glynese. Throughout the story, Mrs. Hopewell, along with the other
characters, assert their views to hulga that good country people are the foundation of living a good
life. The story compares and contrasts these distinctive character views in order to create a more
realistic and three dimensional outlook from the context. After reading over the story a few times, I

Instead of looking down on her for getting involved with every one s business, Mrs. Hopewell
looks at this as a positive quality by letting her be responsible for everything around the house.
When it comes to her treatment toward Hulga however, Mrs. Hopewell seems to lack a certain
sense of sympathy; for example, when she would ask Hulga for help in the fields, she would tell
her If you can t come pleasantly, I don t want you at all . This suggests an obvious intolerance for
her negative behavior. The relationship between Hulga and her mother seems to be that of a
disobedient child and her intolerant mother. Regardless of Hulga s accomplishments, Mrs.
Hopewell still seems incapable of getting past her negative attitude. For example, she believes
college did nothing to break her out of her shell even though Hulga went through years of school
to get her Ph. D in Philosophy. Mrs. Hopewell claims she can t brag about her daughter being a
philosopher because philosophy ended with the Greeks and Romans . On top of her school
accomplishments, Mrs. Hopewell also finds a problem with Hulga s name change. At the age of

13. Literary Analysis Of Faith And Roses
Faith and Roses
Love can be a strange and wonderful thing. Some will have their first kiss at the end of
elementary school, and some will only start dating once their adults. Some can fall for a
childhood friend they knew all their life, and some will be awe struck by a stranger passing by.
Some will marry their high school sweet heart, while some others settle down much later in life. To
say love is complicated is an understatement, and trying to understand it can by quite puzzling.
Luckily, there are always people who have firsthand experience willing to share a snippet of their
wisdom. Both Robert Herrick and Barbara Greenberg try to caution naГЇve virgins about love in To
the Virgins, to Make Much of Time and The Faithful Wife respectfully. While one poem incites
young people to make the most of their freedom, the other warns of the dangers of marrying too
quickly. Both works use a number of various techniques and also share a few in common.
Other than sharing the general theme of love, both poems take it upon themselves to advise
young lovers of risks they taking by marrying early. Even though the poems have an overall
similar message, they deliver it in completely different ways. To the Virgins, to Make Much of
Time strongly suggests the virgins have fun and explore while they are still capable. Herrick
explicitly stats so with his opening verse: Gather ye rose buds while ye may, In this case the
rose buds are opportunities ripe for picking, however one must be inclined to act fast because
they will not stay that way forever. The author encourages the virgins to pick the rose buds, in
this case the opportunities, while they can, before old age prevents them from doing so. Not
only that, but Herrick dedicates a whole two strophes, half the poem, to the passing of time. By
doing so, the author greatly emphasises how quick time can go by, and a person s youth with it.
On the other hand, The Faithful Wife is a poem solely based on the question What of? The
speaker in the poem begins said poem with a completely hypothetical statement: If she were to
have a lover. This immediately implies that the speaker is in a rather rocky marriage. As she goes on
and adds more and more detail to her

14. The Cardiovascular System Of The Human Body
People often exercise in elevated temperatures and maintain an intense work out to improve their
maximum conditioning levels. Participating in such exercise challenges the homeostasis of the
human body. The way that the body reacts and adapts to physical stress depends on various
components. Specifically, exercising in the heat can overload the body and decrease its capability
to adapt to the stress that it is being put through (Nielsen, Hales, Strange, Christensen, Warberg,
Saltin, 1993). Compared to a more neutral environment, exercising in the heat results in alterations
of the circulatory system, thermoregulatory system, and endocrine system(Nielsen, Hales, Strange,
Christensen, Warberg, Saltin, 1993). Despite these alterations, there are several guidelines that
coaches and athletes should follow to allow the body a proper time frame to acclimate to the harsh
temperatures , but the most effective practice is heat acclimation ten to fourteen days prior to the
date of maximum exertion (Powers Howley, 2015). Allowing the body time to acclimate and learn
how to handle the stress from the heat, helps with acute and chronic adaptations. Being aware of
how the heat effects the body and understanding the physiological responses as well as acute and
chronic adaptations, should allow one s body to safely and efficiently exercise during increased
temperature.
There are multiple physiological responses depending on what specific system someone may be

Originally believed to have been established as far back as the year 1235, Scotland has had its

which included earls, nobles and general people of wealth and power. For centuries this parliament
made decisions in Scotland over things such as taxation, the law, justice and many other areas. This
did not last forever however as after many years the Treaty of the Union was introduced in 1707.

Many believe that Scotland too well economically within the UK for leaving to be a viable option
as Scotland receives much of its funding through what is known as the Barnett Formula. By design
this provides Scotland with ВЈ1,500 more per head than the majority of other parts of the UK. This
angers many other parts of the UK as financially Scotland only provides a small part of the overall
public sector revenue created in the UK with ВЈ54 billion being made in 2015/16 which equates to
only 8% of public sector revenue. Many believe however that Scotland would be more than

there being a 15.2% rise in the value of the North Sea s reserves since 2015/16 it can be argued

Calamities have plagued the world since the beginning. The twentieth century, no exception.
Millions lost their lives in World wars one and two, diseases spread like wild fire in foreign
countries, and poverty was striking the world. Isolated events bearing striking similarities to
these were in no short supply either. At this time, no event may have been worse than the
sinking of the Titanic. The European designed and manufactured luxury ship boasted a length of
883 feet and was described, billed and sold as The unsinkable ship . This behemoth, massive ship
weighed well over fifty thousand tons and dominated the Atlantic for her maiden voyage. The
Titanic, like many other entities of the time, was not immune to calamity. Off the coast of the
United States of America, the Titanic struck an iceberg and sank to the bottom of the ocean.
Claiming over one thousand lives, the wreckage of the Titanic left few survivors. But, results of
a new study indicate the Titanic may have a hidden secret, one that was not intended for the
world to find out; a secret flaw that may have decided the fate of thousands in a minute. In the
words of John F. Kennedy in the 1960 s regarding yet another calamity of the era, a day that will

to our own. Much of the world in Europe was seperated a single line, the line of poverty. The

Braveheart Movie Review History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced
with courage, need not be lived again (Maya Angelou). No matter how hard a scriptwriter and
director try to be historically correct while trying to creating a scene the viewers will enjoy,
something will almost always be historically inaccurate. Braveheart the movie released in 1995,
is based in the 13th century off the legendary life of Scottish hero William Wallace was no
exception. During the film, against all odds William Wallace led a rebellion against the English in
May 1297, and surprisingly won at Stirling Bridge, but later lost at Falkirk. Unfortunately on
August 5, 1305 Wallace was captured near Glasgow, and then later convicted as a traitor to the
king. After... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Scottish are known greatly for the wearing of plaid kilts, or a garment resembling a knee length
skirt of pleated tartan cloth, traditionally worn by men as part of Scottish Highland dress. So
through out the whole movie you see Scottish men wearing these kilts. No problem right? Well
this is historically incorrect kilts did not become popular for men to wear until the 17th century.
The wardrobes of the English Soldiers were not any better though. In the movie all the soldiers
are wearing matching uniforms, this did not become popular until the 17th century also. Soldiers
in the 13th century would be wearing whatever they could get their hands on because most of the
soldiers were so poor they did not even have two pennies to rub together. Although the wardrobes
were 4 centuries ahead of their time the director may have had a great reason behind it. The
wardrobes may have been done this way so the audiences can tell between the Scots and English
during battle, because most people know Scots for the kilts and English for the leadership during

The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), the people in charge of what you and your

the amount of violence, sex and nudity, and coarse language that is allowed in a G, PG, R and

After this controversy regarding certain ratings, people begin to ask, does the MPAA have any
certain biases? Here are the facts, according to George Gerbner (University of Pennsylvania, 1987),
violence of children s television shows (includes violent characters, victims and perpetrators of
violence) are double than that of prime time adult television shows. Back in 1961, Albert
Bandura conducted the Bobo Doll Experiment to study aggression in children. With Bandura s
developing Observational Learning theory (learning by observing). He carried out an experiment
with two groups of children, one who watched a film of an adult playing with a Bobo doll
violently, and one group that did not. The group that witness the violent behaviour were more
aggressive towards the doll as opposed to the other group of children. When children are young,
they are exposed to many different violent cartoons (The Roadrunner, Teenage Mutant Ninja
Turtles, Tom and Jerry, Dragon Ball Z, etc.) and thus effects the children when they grow older.
Children exposed to violent cartoons growing up are more likely to be aggressive, decreases
concerns about suffering of victims and becomes desensitized

22. Similarities Between The Spanish And English Colonies In 1492
The arrival of Christopher Columbus in the New World in 1492 began a new period of
colonization lasting until 1763. In that time period, the Spanish and English rushed to claim,
conquer, control, and colonize as much of North and South America as possible. Of course, two
different countries resulted in two different methods of colonization as a result of the differing
religions and systems of government. The small similarities and significant differences between the
Spanish and English colonies in the New World were due to their systems of government and the
influence of European leaders, differences in religion and religious importance, and their treatment
of the indigenous peoples of the New World.

the use of direct democracy. The majorities ideas and decisions would be passed and made into

Puritan leaders. This governing body was the first assembly that met in the colonies and wasn t

charters for all the colonies so each was under his direct control. He would assign a royal
governor to each colony that would carry out his bidding. The small similarity between the two
colonies was that both the Spanish and English colonies ended up being controlled by their
respective monarchs, but originally both colonies had very diverse methods of government due to
the different goals of each colony. While every Spanish colony had the

Often we have walked throughout our lives not knowing what steps to approach success and
how to find those specific steps. We walk aimlessly and do not allow those who have more

24. The Pros And Cons Of The Cuban Missile Crisis
The Cuban Missile Crisis was the closest the world ever came to a nuclear war. Luckily, due to
the bravery of President John F. Kennedy, it was avoided. During October of 1962, President
Kennedy was alerted of some intelligence that Cuba had Soviet Nuclear missiles in its possession.
Immediately President Kennedy sprung into action. President Kennedy and The Executive
Committee of the National Security Council (Ex Comm.) did an efficient job deciding how to
react to the nuclear missiles in Cuba by carefully weighing their options of an air strike, an
invasion or a naval blockade. They were able to make a fast and very accurate decision on how
they should handle the Soviet missiles in Cuba.
The United States had many ways of gathering its intelligence. One way was by U 2 spy planes. A

This option had more cons than it did pros, yet it would still be a good option if it were needed at
any other point during the Cuban Missile Crisis. One pro is that it would most definitely end the
problem which was most of Cuba and most of its people. Now the people of Cuba would stop
rebelling and causing many world problems. The con to that is the United States could cause
more enemies then they would make friends with the Cuban people. Another pro is it would be
easy to assemble and easy to put the plan into immediate action. One of the cons was it could
start an air war, which the United States did not want to get into because it could cause more of a
problem than it would do good. Also if for any reason the plan went wrong, such as the B 52 got
shot down, then the United States would look silly and both the Soviets and Cubans would be
angry. Again the final decision on this option was no. They decided this because there were way
too many problems and not enough

Communism and socialism in animal farn
Communism and socialism plays an important role in Animal Farm by George Orwell. All of the
events that occurred in the book represent actual events that happened to a communist country, now
known as Russia. Both communism and socialism have similar beliefs but still have their
differences. There has never been a communist society where people were happy and treated as
equals to high ranking government officials. There has been a time in Animal Farm when all
animals were treated equal, but that was only in the start of the post revolution. In the end of the
book however, there is a different story. The motif of the book is that any attempt to achieve the
goals of a communist and socialist society ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The pigs were without a doubt the leaders of Animal Farm. They could do anything to you, they
could make you live and could make you die. The socialist system is that the production and
distribution of products is maintained by the community. In Animal Farm , the animals were put
in even more smaller communities by species. There was groups made during the early post
revolution like the Egg Production Committee, the Clean Tails League and the Whiter Wool
Movement. Also all political actions are done by the community. There was the Meeting every
Sunday where all the animals met in the barn. What they did in the barn was they planned what
to do next week and also debate resolutions. The resolutions were put by pigs who were the only
ones with the ability to make them. Soon Napoleon and Snowball were debating against each
other and were trying to get majority for themselves. All the other animals couldn amp;#8217;t
think up of anything for themselves but both of the pigs were throwing many at them. They soon
got out of their Socialist ways and started to become closer to communism. An example of the
complete end of Socialism in Animal Farm was when Napoleon ordered the hens to lay a certain
amount of eggs. The hens refused to do so but was forced to which is definitely not socialistic. It

Art emerged in the same time that human occured. In the prehistoric era, there was no writing,
recording and any languages for speaking. The only one method that people used to communicate
or tell the stories was arts. Arts tell us about the development of ancient people. We can know what
was the main tools of ancient people for their living by analyzing arts. Arts do not only present
belief, culture and society but they also show the important situation in the past. In my view, Horse
and SunChariot is one of the most important prehistoric arts that can explain what happened in long
time ago. Hence, I am interested to analyze the sculpture named Horse and Sun Chariot by focusing
on composition, line and shape, colour, texture and space.

the sun in the chariot and the Chariot seem to move by itself. The chariot has six wheels and each

because there is a lot of filigree. The feeling when you touch the Sun might be similar to when

can feel that it is different. This is because it is covered by gold which makes the texture is
glossy. The feeling when you touch it is same as touching coins. Secondly, the texture of the
Chariot is a little bit rough especially the wheels. This is because it was corroded by rust. We can
compare the feeling when touching the Chariot to rusty mesh fence. Besides, the texture of the
Horse is also rough because of rusty. Moreover, there is some fractures at the Horse s back. The
texture of the Horse same as rusty galvanized irons. Thereby, the texture of the House and Sun

28. The Importance Of Family Relationships
Having a relationship is like having a wall for support, like having someone to lean on. A
relationship needs trust, loyalty, and respect. Without these, the relationship will not succeed.
Relationships need hard work and dedication, nothing good will come from an easy relationship.
Although completely different, each type of relationship shows importance to the social growth of
people. In life, people encounter many different types of relationships: family, casual, intimate, and
friendships.
Family forms the first bond anyone will ever encounter, because blood is thicker than water.
Family builds future relations. Humans learn how to love and care for people from their families
(Ransohoff, 2013). Nancy Brown, educator, and Julia Ransohoff, medical doctor student at
Stanford, state family is defined as a domestic group of people with some degree of kinship,
(Ransohoff, 2013). Family includes blood, marriage, and adoption (Ransohoff, 2013). Although
not every family includes all of these. A blended family may not involve blood or adoption, or a
traditional family only includes marriage and adoption. People consider these relations, family,
because even though a blood tie does not exist, those people still grew up together. Sure, some go
through a difficult transition, but for others, they make it through without an ounce of
complication. To keep a family relationship healthy, everyone must work at it (Ransohoff, 2013).

29. Argumentative Essay On Declining Fish
Over fishing our waters is causing a great deal of concern amongst environmentalist and
commercial fishermen. According to the Declining Fish Stock video, the average commercial
fishermen s catch is about 20,000 pounds. This has been estimated to equal a couple hundred fish
per day per vessel (Declining Fish, 2007). Some studies indicate that commercial fishingfleets have
stripped the ocean waters of at least 90 percent of its big fish (Declining Fish, 2007). This has
begun to cause heavy competition between commercial fishermen who are left competing for the
other 10 percent of the remaining fish population (Declining Fish, 2007).
Studies indicate that our oceans are not as resilient as we had once believed (Declining Fish,
2007). According to Dr. Jeremy Jackson of the Scripps Institute of Oceanography, we will never
again be able to fish our waters at the level that we have been over the last half century (Declining
Fish, 2007). Dr. Jackson also states that over fishing is more destructive to the ocean waters than
toxic pollution or degrading water quality (Declining Fish, 2007). This is a frightening thought and
seems to have environmentalists and commercial fishermen at each other s throats.
When asked if the damage to the fish population is at a level of completion, Dr. Jackson said that
the damage was near completion but that the damage could be reversed if we take much needed
drastic measures to ensure that these fish have a chance to repopulate (Declining Fish,

College can be a huge jump from high school for most people in many areas. One of the most
impacted areas includes a student s overall success in college. Many college students may say
that high school was a breeze and claim to have done well by putting forth minimal effort. High
schoolers are use to having a ton of free time, getting good grades without studying outside of the
classroom, and barely having any homework at all. Once they make the transition to college, all of
that changes. Quickly freshmen experience homework piling up and studying consumes more and
more free time and all of this can lead to many anxiety issues and health problems if it gets too
overwhelming. If a student were to be organized and not procrastinate, they can... Show more

A student s college success can be defined as their level of success and fulfillment in academics
and enjoyment of their life in college. There are many contributions that can help a student s
college success as well as many contributions that can diminish it. This paper will be focusing on
two main components that will help blossom a student s success in college. Most people go to
college to learn and gain experience to help guide them in the right direction toward their career
which is why having a successful college life is important no matter how long one attends. While
there are many elements that can help with this, the two big ones that contribute are a student s
involvement in activities outside of class and a proper, healthy diet. The first topic and most
important, is a student s involvement with activities around the campus. This can be anything from
sports, to presenting situations, or just sitting down and talking to a bunch of people. In high school
these are known as extracurricular activities, though the same word may apply in college.
Extracurricular activities provide students with a number of benefits. It can teach them the value of
working together with others to accomplish a task, or teamwork. There are little to no downsides to
joining clubs and if there are, the benefits outweigh the negatives. According to the U.S. News
Education getting involved in college can allow students to become more connected with their

Using Michael Porter s Five Forces model it is possible to gain an understanding of where Virgin
stands in relation to the competition and how it can adjust to increase its competitiveness. The
diagram below is a graphical representation of Porter s model.
Threat of New Entrants
1. Threat of Foreign Carriers Many large foreign airlines are expanding their reach to new market
segments that are likely to encroach on Virgin s market share. Emirates air, Cathay Pacific, and
Qatar airlines have all been successful at stealing market share from their US competitors on
domestic and international routes (Mayerowitz, 2008).
2. Low Cost and Regional Airline Startups Companies like Jet Blue, Ryanair (European), and
EasyJet (AirTran) are all LCC s that have potentially devastating effects on market share for larger
more expensive airlines (The Economist, 2004).
Bargaining Power of Suppliers
1. Fuel Companies Fuel is one of the airline industry s largest variable costs (on average 40% of
their budget). Aside from hedging or put and call options, which can backfire, airlines are at the
mercy of fuel companies and have very little bargaining power (Hargreaves, 2012).

Effects of Overpopulation and Industrialization on the Environment
Throughout history, the world s population has expanded in an extremely exponential fashion
taking over three million years to achieve a one billion person benchmark, it then only took 130,
30, 15, 12, and 11 years to reach subsequent billions, respectively. (Southwick, 159) Such a massive
and still increasing population, combined with the environmentally detrimental repercussions of
industrialization (as a result of the need to sustain such a large population), namely pollution from
fossil fuels, has begun to take a serious toll on our planet s ecosystem. Moreover, some scientists
have calculated that an optimal human population on earth in terms of reasonable ... Show more

Regardless of whether or not pollution increases as population increases, (Edwin Dolin strongly
refutes this principle that population increases lead to increases in pollution) the statistics
nonetheless illustrate that increased population, and now what many consider overpopulation, has
without a doubt led to continuingly deteriorating environmental conditions. Especially since the
beginning of the Industrial Revolution, new technologies have enabled cultures and communities,
initially in the new territories traversed by the Europeans, to expand in populace: we are forever
realizing that the Industrial Revolution has changed forever the relationship between humanity and
nature. There is a real concern that by the middle or the end of the 21st century human activities
will have changed the basic conditions that have allowed life to thrive on earth. (Internet 1) These
basic conditions include the earth s natural climate and the depletion and manipulation of its natural
resources. Such expansion (since the Industrial Revolution) and creation of new establishments
began, on a small scale, to effect the environment in many ways. The first element of the
environment that was immediately effected was forests. Massive deforestation occurred, and still
does so today, as land was cleared to make way for new towns. Moreover, many construction
projects also used wood from trees, not to mention other commercial uses, such as paper, and fuel.

36. Water Is An Important Factor That Affects Sorption
Water is an important factor that affects sorption because when there is excess water or when
water drains through soil from sources at the surface, adsorbed pesticide molecules can become
unattached, or desorbed, and wash away to a new location (Rao, 1999). Just as degradation has a
measure in the half life of a compound, sorption also has a measure in the partition coefficient
(Koc), which is a ratio of pesticide concentration in a soilbound state versus dissolved in soil water
(Rao, 1999). In fact, the solubility of a pesticide and its sorption on soil are inversely related; [in
other words], increased solubility results in less sorption (Rao, 1999). Both sorption and
degradation are effected by soil type and pH, both of which... Show more content on

Volatilization is a means of major pesticide loss and its rate of loss can often exceeds that of
degradation, runoff, or leaching (van der Werf, 1996). For example, in an Oregon study, soil
samples 64km from any agriculture were found to have DDT residues, and in Saskatchewan,
Canada, 20% of 2, 4 D iso octyl ester volatilized in 24 hours (Pimentel, 1995). Once in the
atmosphere, pesticide residues can spread anywhere, even Antarctica (Pimentel, 1995). Large
amounts of pesticides and organic compounds can be transported around the globe in the
atmosphere, for example, in the atmosphere of the Netherlands, the amounts of
BHC, DDT, and heptachlor were reported to be 4600, 1064, and 190 pg/m 3, respectively
(Pimentel, 1995).
Topography and Geology Topography and geology affect pesticide movement in as much as
directing or transporting pesticides. Topography is very obvious, for example, if a field is right
next to a river, it is much more likely for runoff to get into the river system, or if a field is in a
low area not very far above the water table, pesticides are very likely to leach into the
groundwater. On the other hand, a field could be high and dry and very far from any river or
groundwater, but if it is hilly that can pose its own problems. As T. Y. Tong and Chen point out,
surface runoff is an important source of non point pollution (Tong and Chen, 2002). Though it was
pointed out by van der Werf that volatilization is the biggest source of

37. Description Of Nicaragu The Spanish Word For Water
Description of Nicaragua
The name Nicaragua comes from a combination of two words, nicarao and agua . The Nicarao are
the Indian tribe that were occupying the shores of Lake Nicaragua when the Spaniards arrived in
the 1500 s. Agua is the Spanish word for water.
The Nicarao tribe originally immigrated to Nicaragua from Mexico, after the fall of the Aztec
empire. According to legend, the Nicarao were directed to travel south until they found an island
with two volcanoes in the middle of a lake. An interesting Nicaragua fact is that the Nicarao tribe
found Ometepe Island with two volcanoes in the middle of Lake Nicaragua, realized they had
found the promised land, and then setttled on the shores of Lake Nicaragua.
Geography
The Republic of Nicaragua is bound on the north by Honduras, on the south by Costa Rica, on the
east by the Caribbean Sea and on the west by the Pacific Ocean. Nicaragua is a tropical country
located between 11 and 17 north latitude.
Nicaragua, about the size of Iowa, is the largest country in Central America and covers an area of
130,000 Sq. Km. Nicaragua has the largest area of arable land in all of Central America, with
12.1 million acres, of which 8.9 million area ideal for agriculture and 3.2 million for cattle

42. Vard The Evolution Of The Film Genre
Films are divided by different genres a French word meaning type or kind (Neale Stephen, 7),
including melodrama, comedy, and tragedy. Genre has occupied an important place in the study
of the cinema for over thirty years. One of the biggest genres that has been evolved over the years
and has many implications is melodrama. As a theatrical genre, melodrama came into existence in
the late eighteenth century in France and Germany (Neale Stephen, 184). In the following century
melodrama genre has spread and developed quick from France to Britain, America, and the rest of
Europe. The melodrama initial definition was both formal and specific: melodrama was a dramatic
passage, scene or play in which at first spoken dialogue, then later... Show more content on

43. India s Foreign Direct Investments
Despite its deceleration over the past few years, India has become one of the most attractive
places to outsource operations for corporations due to several important factors: Its young, well
educated low cost labor (Median age 27, according to the World Fact Book, CIA), the gradual
economic liberalization and industry deregulation and their several technical skills are only to
mention a few of the characteristics that make, along with China and certain other rising Asian
nations, serious candidates for hosting big corporation s foreign direct investments (Ranker, 2014).
But India has had to come a long way to stand to where it is now. Several events throughout history
have made the nation struggle, from religious to political issues, from... Show more content on

Under this system, Nehru sought to strengthen the agricultural and power sectors, providing
agriculture 45% and industry 5% of the resource during the first Five Year Plan. It initially gave
India an increase of 3.6% (Exhibit 10a) on its gross domestic product during the first five years.
Following this the government isolated the country from foreign investment (as nationalist leaders
feared a dependency on it) and trade in an effort to promote domestic production and as a strategy
to reduce imports. Since the government had also created a complex system of licensing through
the Permit Raj, resources became scarce, the complexity of its bureaucracy fostered corruption and
became a reason of delay for companies. This made it hard for other important areas of the country
to help increase its economic growth. Also, the government gradually came into possession of most
of the private sectors: By 1956, it already had control of commercial banking, oil, insurance and
some important resources such as steel and mining. The government, along with the large family
conglomerates controlled almost all Indian economy and could arbitrarily choose how each
industry would be ran; it regulated the where, the how, the how much and the whether or not a
company would be given permission to produce. Price regulation and

Engstrom Auto Mirror Plant:
Motivating in Good Times and Bad
Engstrom Auto Mirror Plant is facing the problem of not being able to keep their employees
motivated in both good and bad times. Before the problem occurred, Ron Bent, the plant manager,
had adopted the Scanlon Plan. The Scanlon Plan was an incentive plan used to motivate employees
and to drive changes in their behavior and attitudes. The plan consisted of monthly bonuses for
employee productivity, communication meetings, a committee to encourage and evaluate
employee s suggestions, and overall improved working conditions. Employees were satisfied with
their jobs and motivated to be productive. Over time, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the plan no longer was enough to motivate the employees, Bent knew the plan needed to be
revised. He had said, A Scanlon program won t perpetuate itself. You have to give it a shot in the
arm every so often whenever the work force needs it (Beer and Collins, p. 6). To revise the plan,
Bent needed to listen to the employee s complaints. Part of the Scanlon plan was to listen to
suggestions of the employees, so the complaints should have been just as important to listen to and
evaluate. The employee complaints were about the distrust of bonus calculations and questions of
fairness. Bent and his management team should have seen the complaints as a suggestion for
improving the bonus plan. Another alternative would be to change the organizational factors of the
company. Bent could do this by using the Job Characteristics Model. Due to the Scanlon Plan, the
company had already met the fifth characteristic of feedback, but Bent could also look at ways to
improve the autonomy, task significance, task identity, and skill variety of his company. By
improving those characteristics, it could help the Scanlon Plan to further motivate employees.
Lastly, Bent could

45. Theme Across Genre
Comparing a Theme Across Genres Sometimes people are faced with a disaster that they do not
have control over. This tragedy may result in deadly outcomes. In the story, Titanic, written by
Hanson W. Baldwin and in the story, Notes from a Bottle, written by James Stevenson both
portray a disaster that happened to many individuals that may or may not have cost them their
lives. Fictional stories have a more emotional impact on readers, and they develop feelings for the
characters. On the other hand, non fictional stories are more factual, and are more real than they
are personal. In the story, Titanic, by Hanson W. Baldwin a ship sailed the ocean on April 10,
1912 from Southampton to New York called the Titanic. Baldwin s purpose is to

In the story, Titanic, author Hanson W. Baldwin uses factual information to support his main
idea about the tragedy of the shipwreck, Titanic. Baldwin states facts to make the story more
realistic. For example, he uses time to let the readers know how fast the ship sunk after hitting
the iceberg. Towards the end of the story Baldwin writes, The Titanic had carried boats enough
for 1,178 persons, only one third of her capacity. Her sixteen boats and four collapsibles had
saved but 711 persons; 400 people had needlessly lost their lives. (Baldwin, 405). Baldwin uses
these facts to make the story more realistic by stating how many people were saved, and how many
died. The characters support the theme that nobody knows the situation they are walking into until
it actually

46. Workplace Advocacy
Introduction In a profession where others health and well being are priority, there leaves room for
neglect of those who are delegated to care for these people. As a professional nurse, there are
many obstacles that arise and affect the care provided to a patient, as well as the livelihood of the
nurse. The current deteriorating and unsafe staffing conditions in hospitals and other institutions
prompts workplace advocacy as the universally appropriate concept for maintaining professional
nursing practice. The Arkansas Nurses Association and the Louisiana State Nurses Association
define workplace advocacy as a planned, organized system of services and resources designed to
support the professional nurse in the workplace (White Paper on... Show more content on

Hess, discusses shared governance involvement with the nursing shortage that healthcare
facilities are now facing. Hess focused on the purpose of shared governance, which is to give
registered nurses control over their practice. This will help ensure nurse involvement in the
workplace. In expressing his struggle, Hess clearly defines shared governance with the order of
structures and processes involved within each organization (Hess, 2004). However, he does agree
with its purpose that nursing shared governance helps with every situation a nurse may encounter
in the healthcare setting. The following article further evaluates workplace advocacy in a way that
relates to shared governance. In an article entitled, Common Denominators: Shared Governance
and Workplace Advocacy Strategies for Nurses to Gain Control over Their Practice, Green, and
Jordan explore the concepts of shared governance and workplace advocacy. According to Green
(2004), organizations implementing shared governance concentrate on having a partnership
between the organization and the employees. Shared governance concentrates on the micro level,
which is the internal aspect of workplace policies (Green, 2004). In contrast to shared governance,
workplace advocacy focuses on both micro and macro levels, which are external. These external
policies consist of local, state, or federal policies (Green, 2004). Some

At lunch she asked Hoshi. Trip wishes to celebrate Saint Valentine s Day. Why would he wish to

Hoshi almost spit out the bite of tuna salad she had just taken. She laughed. T Pol, the holiday may

49. The Metaphysic Of Abstract Particulars
Introduction: In this paper I will present the arguments for tropes and their distinction from
universals and particulars as presented by Keith Campbell in his paper The Metaphysic of Abstract
Particulars. I will then present a counter argument to Campbell s evaluation and provide possible
responses to those arguments. I will also provide possible adjustments Campbell could make to
create a more sound argument.
Campbell s Argument:
Since Plato, two mutually exclusive yet essential categories of reality have been posited, one of
concrete particulars and the other being abstract universals. Particulars are unproblematic, but
universals may be entirely extant in many positions with no influence on the universal itself. A
particular distinguishing mark is that is exhausted in the one embodiment, or occasion, or example.
(Campbell 298) Particulars are unproblematic because they are restricted to a single point at any
given time, not like universals which exist in different locations and are wholly present in those
instances. The number of examples which contain the abstract universals are not diminished in
quality of the universal. Campbell posits that this problem can be alleviated if properties were not
universal at all. There is a distinction between abstract and concrete which differs from the
distinction between universals and particulars. This is because particulars and universals can both
be abstract where only particulars can be concrete. The particulars that

50. Farm Pond Water Quality Testing
Memorandum
To: Town of Framingham
From: Michael Baldwin
Date: October 17, 2015
Subject: Farm Pond water quality testing
Introduction:
My name is Michael Baldwin, I am a senior at Framingham State University where I am studying
environmental science. The ecology class at the university was recently tasked with collecting
water quality data on Farm Pond. This memo intends to inform the town of Framingham of the data
that was collected, and how it might be analyzed to better understand the water quality and
ecosystem health of Farm Pond as it relates to recreational use.
Methods:
In order to assess the water quality of Farm Pond the class collected a variety of data. The class
was broken into groups which collected multiple types of data from different parts of the pond.
Data was collected from both littoral (area shallow enough for rooted vegetation) and limnetic (area
too deep to support rooted vegetation) zones in the pond.
In the littoral zone three groups collected data on water temperature, pH, water depth and biota.
Sampling was done along three transects, where samples were taken at 1,2,3 and 4 meters from
shore.
Water pH was measured using standard pH paper as well as an electronic pH meter. Water
temperature was measured using a thermometer. Water depth was physically measured. Biota data
included the percentage of vegetative coverage in sample plots which was measured visually. In
addition, samples of benthic macro invertebrates were taken using a net drag
