Theme Of Satire In Gulliver s Travels
Satire in Gulliver s Travels
First published in 1726, Gulliver s Travels is a momentous piece of literature which defined the
satirical genre and empowered writers of following generations to assume the responsibility of
keeping the government in check and exposing corruption. The novel accomplices this through its
nuanced prose and wild exhibitions of imagery, subliminally mocking and satirizing facets of the
cultures he s introduced to. Exploring themes of corruption, religious division and hypocrisy, and
cultural progressivism, Gulliver s travels implements and employs various allusions and metaphors as
a means of pushing his agenda.
Throughout the novel Gulliver is confronted with the existential and philosophical question of
inherent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This contrast is best exhibited between the inhabitants of Gulliver s third and fourth voyage, as their
societies are exhibit a proclivity for the scientific world and the natural world, respectively. This
contrast evokes thought over what makes an advanced society and alludes to the intellectual and
traditional wars raging in Europe, both in the academic realm with hobbes and in the political realm as
the concept of self governance began to emerge. Gulliver s travels is irrevocably one of the most
influential and notorious novels to ever be written. The critiques of society were felt like a sting
throughout the continent while his humorous tales warmed the spirits of many citizens. The novel s
striking satire helped define a generation and propel literature into a new mindset and motivation. The
clever metaphors and well constructed allusions allowed for a cohesive and intriguing depiction of a
fantasy through a realistic lense. Gulliver s Travels allowed readers to travel to distant utopias and
dystopias and travel back, spreading knowledge and ideologies for the progress of the

Abdominoplasty Essay Questions
What Patients Need to Know
A tummy tuck, also referred to as abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure that removes excess fat and
skin in the abdominal area. Before asking Am I a good tummy tuck candidate, patients need to know
that a tummy tuck is not a substitute for weight loss. Diet and exercise should be used as a weight loss
aid prior to a tummy tuck. The ideal candidate for this surgery is someone at a healthy weight for his
or her age, height, and body type. Ideal candidates have loose, excessive skin in the lower abdominal
region. This skin could be the result of extreme weight loss, pregnancy, or aging. Patients approved for
a tummy tuck will have two incisions made: one in the lower abdomen and one around the navel. The
fat and skin are then separated from the abdominal muscles. The muscles are trimmed to give the
tummy a tighter look and stitched into place. The skin is re stretched over the muscles and any excess
skin is removed. The lower incision is stitched up, and the upper incision is closed after the navel has
been reattached in a natural looking position. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Witch Hunts Have Never Ceased Oppression, Bloodshed, Sin. People search and destroy things that
are considered oddities. What really is an unusual circumstance? Loving someone who is the same
gender? People who are born in the wrong body? As a society people have chosen religion over
common sense, since time has started turning its devious hands. Whether the the devil lives among
them, or slaughtering homosexuals for finding love in unconventional ways. When people are
misunderstood, others react harshly; we can see this colorfully portrayed in both the Crucible by
Arthur Miller, and the LGBT+ community. Similar to that of the Crucible, if a group of people do not

Pseudoscience Paper
Mega 1
The Impact of Pseudoscience on Consumers Pseudoscience is known by many as false science. Many
consumers are convinced by companies that sells these products provide instant cures that lead to a
healthier lifestyle. These products are scientific theories that have little evidence to back up their
scientific claims. The Internet, health food stores, magazines, and commercials are just a few ways
that companies can target potential consumers to sell their products. Medical information searched by
consumers via the Internet has become the largest source of information worldwide. Consumers search
the Internet for weight loss strategies, treatments for autism, anti aging creams, male enhancement,
and prevention of cancer and heart ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While health foods stores attract consumers to purchase health supplements, many manufacturers use
health food stores to promote their bogus products. In March 1999, the FTC filed a complaint in
federal court against the makers of Vitamin O. The company ran false ads claiming the Vitamin O
supplement prevents cancer, heart, and lung disease by adding an extra oxygen supplement to the
bloodstream. With no scientific evidence to prove the benefits of Vitamin O, the two companies from
Washington agreed to a settlement of $375,000 for consumer compensation. The settlement prohibited
the Vitamin O manufacturers from making claims that were unsupported about the Vitamin O health
benefits. Testimonials and endorsements of product represented through previous experience from
members of the public who used the product were also prohibited in the settlement. In conclusion,
marketing agents with false science beliefs have one common goal: To sell! We as consumers must be
aware and informed of unknown supplements that claims to have a great deal of impact to your life.
These products are known for its testimonials by doctors and actors that make claims of using the
product. Pseudoscience supplements have caused serious illnesses and even death due to consumers
lack of knowledge when purchasing these products. It is strongly recommended that consumers
research the companies and the product that advertise false products very carefully before purchasing
a supplement that claims to

Wanted
Wanted! When you hear, or say that term, the visual that may come to mind may be: criminal, old
western movie, or even a comparison to a relationship. But in relation to the movie Wanted it stands
for nothing but a guy that wanted no more in life but to find his purpose. A lot of us in this world
never actually find our purpose in life, we just kind of settle for what we are able to do. We go through
trials and tribulations to find ourselves, and find anything that will make our lives more satisfying,
including putting ourselves in harms way to do it. This film stars Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman,
and James McAvoy, which names all scream a killer movie to me. The theme represented in this

The first theme demonstrated in this movie is Perseverance, which was illustrated in the film by
Wesley, and his determination to go through all the physical test to meet standards of the fraternity.
His whole intention throughout the movie was to prove that he could become more than what he
always has considered himself, which is below average. When Wesley was in training he got beat up
by multiple people in the fraternity, in an attempt to make him physically strong to stand anything. He
learned tasks including fighting, knife work, and also how to curve a bullet. When he was learning to
curve the bullet Sloan, played by Morgan Freeman, states The first time in your life Wesley, you are in
control (Bekmambetov, Wanted ). As he shoots multiple bullets and still pierces the wrong target, Fox
then stands in the middle of him and the target and says, shoot the target (Bekmambetov, Wanted ). As
hesitant as he was he knew he had to have confidence in himself to complete the task. As he shoots
around Fox, not knowing if the bullet would hit her, he takes his shot and hits the correct target. Sloan
then says Welcome to the fraternity (Bekmambetov, Wanted ). He then knew all his hard work had
paid off! That part of the movie showed strength and perseverance.
Another way both themes, deceit and perseverance, were shown was at the end of the movie when

Designing A Language For The Banking Problem
This essay is written to design a language that is suitable for the banking problem. The banking sector
is related to the business areas. Banking sector provide services to their customers and security of their
customer s money to them. Banking is also evolved in the finance areas also. There are many
programming languages that have been widely used for the business applications of computers. Some
of these languages are java, COBOL, FORTRAN, Pascal, Python, PHP, C/C++ etc. Each language has
its own features and characteristics, syntax, compilation and interpreter methods and also has
exception handling and maintenance also. So, here I am going to design a new language that is use for
the banking problem domain. The language is IBPL (Internet Business Programming Language). This
language has its own features, scope, characteristics, maintenance and its compilation and
interpretation methods. This language is different from all the existing languages. In this essay I am
going to describe about my language i.e. IBPL (Internet Business Programming Language), its
purpose of designing, its features, its characteristics, its compilation and interpretation, its
expressivity, type checking, Orthogonality, its simplicity, its data types and support for abstraction, its
readability, writability and its reliability etc.
So, in this I am going to write an essay to design a new language for the problem domain of banking.

Taking a Look at the Earth s Biosphere
The Earth s biosphere is considered to be the most inclusive layer on the planet; simply put, the
biosphere is where life happens. What makes the biosphere so exceptional is the fact that there is no
record of life existing anywhere else in space. All of the organisms that inhibit the biosphere impact it
in some way. However, humans have the largest impact on the biosphere through the means of
industrialization, reproduction, and consumption. As with all of the other organisms inhibiting the
biosphere, humans have basic needs in order to thrive. We need habitats, protection, reproductive
success, and sustenance. However, unlike other organisms, we have proclivities that span beyond the
essential tools needed to survive. We have the unique gift of insight, and with it, the ability to innovate
beyond the parameters of any other species on the planet. From the use of fire to the invention of the
smartphone, there is a continuum of technological advances.
In today s industrialized societies, these technological conveniences have become vital in order for
one to compete for resources. With this dependency, comes a cost, and it threatens the very system
that supports life on earth. In North America, 700,000 tons of air pollution is released into the
atmosphere every day (Biology). This stems from the use of fuel burning transportation, product
manufacturing, and mining. There are two main classes of air pollution, particles and gases. The
discharge of elements into the

Examples Of Political Allegory In The Crucible
Arthur Miller s The Crucible was an intrinsic piece of American history. It taught the American public
how to control and contain anger without denying it by using a prior event in history that gave an
objective perspective for the current situation (Miller XXI). His linguistic style managed to convey the
outdated ideals and religiously based beliefs that led to the trivial claims that endangered the public to
a state of mass hysteria. While formatting the political allegory as an interpretive narrative that catered
directly to the opinions of the American people. Miller shows common examples of the human
inclination to manifest emotional, social and political manipulation in The Crucible, while accurately
representing the allegory of McCarthyism. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

religion and economics were in the government, where the established governments used God and
capitalism vs communism as justification to prosecute and enforce brutality upon its citizens. Likening

Is Voluntourism A Contemporary Manifestation Of Imperialism
Is voluntourism a contemporary manifestation of imperialism? Why/why not? Use both primary and
secondary sources to substantiate your answer. Voluntourism is a modern day exhibition of
imperialism. Patrick H. O Neil (2010, p. 234) defines imperialism as ...the system whereby a state
extends its power to directly control territory, resources, and people beyond its borders . Voluntourism
chains travel with voluntary work, drawing individuals seeking a tourist experience that will positively
benefit the society and their personal development (Raymond and Hall 2008, p. 530) Getting your

knowledge and skills about the outer world and cultures (Wearing 2001, p. 146). This could
potentially lead to generalised views of other cultures and may even lead to imposing their own
culture on others, with or without intention. It is essential that volunteers are appropriately qualified
and prepared so that they are perceived positively by their hosts and can make a genuine contribution,
rather than simply absorbing time and resources (Raymond and Hall 2008, p. 531). Without the
fundamental material and understanding the plight of people in poor lands, the promise of good
outcomes would be counter productive and may only serve to imprint power and authority (McGloin,
Georgeou 2015, p. 409). Reinforcing the fact that people in the slums may comprehend the status of
visitors and their dominance over their constructions, which influences their poverty and underpins
their lack of power in society (Raymond and Hall 2008, p. 533). Voluntourism, when combined with
unskilled tourists in this imperialistic world, becomes very exploitative. In other words, through the
modern day practice of voluntourism ideas of imperialism is still very much alive and present.
Voluntourism provides greater opportunities for interaction and exchange between voluntourists and
host communities in order to build a

is a diligent hard worker and very independent. Lyddie is the mother figure of her family and her
closest friend, who was her brother, were both sent off to work. Lyddie started work at a tavern and
moved later to the Lowell mills for more money. Lyddie had a quick adjustment and the money began

they ll release you (91).Lyddie does not want Betsy to sign because she knows she ll get released and
this is even more of a problem if Lyddie signs. Another reason Lyddie cant sign the petition because
she ll get blacklisted comes from when Lyddie was sick coughing. During this part, Lyddie says They
ll bleed me of every penny I ve saved, between fits of coughing. If Lyddie where to get blacklisted,
she wouldn t make any more money and if god forbid she got sick, Lyddie would quickly lose her
money. Lyddie can t get blacklisted because she has nowhere to go to if she were to be released. This
proves that Lyddie can t sign the petition because she will be in a poor financial and living situation.
To summarize, Lyddie can t sign the petition because she ll be

The Effects Of Global Warming On The Environment
The government and Darpa have openly admitted in creating a way to manipulate the weather, the
reason the government would have created a way to manipulate weather is for self benefit of the
country or for political reasons, such as dis forming a monstrous hurricane or helping precipitation
occur in an area suffering with drought, the end game in this conspiracy would be for the United
States to have complete control if manipulating the weather anywhere in the world and by doing this it
would allow the U.S. to have total control of the other countries and continents. Geoengineering is the
deliberate manipulation of an environment process that affects the earth s climate in an attempt to
counteract the effects of global warming, it is a wake up call that our planet is dying. Geoengineering
studies include the principles which are intended to guide development, the categories: solar
geoengineering and carbon geoengineering, which are aimed to tackle temperature and the techniques
used to gather data that could change and be good for the planet. Geoengineering research is still at a
very early stage but may need to be developed sooner due to the world which is ever changing for the
worse, but never the less it is still important that scientist are given the space within which to ask and
to try and answer difficult questions, only through combined modeling and field research can we
generate the evidence base for a salient answer on whether climate engineering is a good or bad

Alice In Wonderland Power
This essay will consider Lewis Carroll s presentation of Alice in Alice s Adventures in Wonderland,
specifically within the Pig and Pepper chapter. Alice wishes to master the unfamiliar world of
Wonderland, in much the same way as Victorian Britain gained global power through colonization. In
this essay, I will argue that Carroll uses Alice s role as Victorian representative to criticise this
dominant global position Britain held during its imperial century . Alice initially perceives
Wonderland as a world that she can overpower and benefit from, much as imperialist Britain benefited
from its territories resources. She does not succeed, however, and by the end of both the chapter and
overall narrative, finds that compliant interactions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The importance of learning from other cultures, rather than maintaining imperialistic superiority by
holding Victorian England above the rest, is communicated. This is indicated through Alice s
transition to a more adaptable state, which is again represented through her interactions with the
infant. When caring for the baby, Alice tells it not to grunt, as that s not at all a proper way of
expressing yourself. In dictating to the baby the proper etiquette regarding expression, Alice is initially
projecting her own Victorian society onto it. She views her society as superior, and so requires that the
infant act in the same way as one from her own world. However, the description of Alice holding the
baby makes it clear that she is beginning to understand that there is no fixed, constantly correct way of
doing things. Carroll states that she made out the proper way of nursing it (which was to twist it up
into a sort of knot, and then keep tight hold of its right ear and left foot, so as to prevent its undoing
itself) The repetition of the word proper is telling here: the proper way of treating this Wonderland
child is in fact very different from what the proper way would be in Alice s world. Consequently, Alice
learns she cannot simply project her own culture onto Wonderland, and must instead operate with
more open mindedness regarding differing

Therefore people have the right to protest wherever they feel the need to. That does not mean that the
people have the right to harass women who had or will have abortions. The Supreme Court ruled the
McCullen v. Coakley case on June of 2014. The McCullen v. Coakley case was thought of by a
grandmotherly anti abortion sidewalk counselor , Eleanor McCullen (Redden, 2014). The case
decision stated that Massachusetts abortion clinic 35 foot buffer zone law violated the First
Amendment because it limited free speech of broadly (Adler, 2014). Chief Justice, John Roberts,
argued that a painted line on the sidewalk is easy to enforce, but the prime objective of the First
Amendment is not efficiency (Liptak and Schwartz, 2014). Justice Samuel Alito, argued it is clear...
that it discriminates based on viewpoint. Speech in favor of the clinic...is permitted; speech criticizing
the clinic and its work is a crime (Starr, 2014). Nicole Clegg, spokeswoman for Planned Parenthood s
Portland office, argued that regardless of the decision, they remain committed to protecting the
privacy and safety of our patients and will work to ensure that women are able to make their own
health care decisions without fear of harassment or intimidation (Byrne, 2014). I personally feel that I
am liberal when it comes down to abortion. Most women who have, had, or will have abortions should

What A Postnatal Abdominal Palpation Is Important For A...
This essay will first describe partnership and how a midwife working in the continuity of care model
develops and maintains it. Secondly, this essay will describe what a postnatal abdominal palpation is,
why it is done and what the outcomes may be. It will also describe the anatomy and physiology of a
uterus and involution. Lastly, a description of how the assessment is conducted and how during this
partnership and cultural safety is maintained by the midwife.
The partnership between a woman and her midwife is the key to a successful birth experience. This
partnership is a professional friendship that allows midwives to get to know women and their bodies.
This model identifies midwifery partnership as a relationship of sharing between the women and the
midwife, involving trust, shared control and responsibility and shared meaning through mutual
understanding. It is the sharing relationship which constitutes midwifery and it is one which spans the
life experience of pregnancy and childbirth. (Guilliland, K., Pairman, S, 2010, p. 7).
This partnership is formed throughout the continuity of care Model. According to Leap Pairman
(2010) The development of this partnership relationship relies on midwives being able to work in
continuity of care models so that mutual trust and understanding between midwives and women can
evolve over time (p. 338). The continuity of care model that lead maternity carers work with, is where
midwives support woman from the day they find out

The Table By Sylvia Plath Tone
The Table, written in 1998 by Ted Hughes, is a free verse poem communicating the idea of loss, using
the death of his wife, Sylvia Plath, as his form of expressing his experiences and interpretations of the
topic. The change of tone from the beginning to the end of the poem assists the idea of loss, as well as
the language used and the strong use of imagery. Ted Hughes wife, Sylvia Plath, struggled with
depression for most of her life. Hughes seems to be using this poem as an opportunity to convince the
reader of his desire to support her love of writing but it was through her writing that she was truly able
to express her own grief and loss and to eventually let her long dead father back into her life the result
being Hughes losing his wife to her father.

to her as he can t compete with her father. I embraced / Lady Death, your rival (Hughes, 36 37).

How A Home Is A Life Changing Decision
How to Buy a Home Deciding to buy a home can be a life changing decision and one of the most
important a person can make in their lifetime. It shows a person s responsibility and commitment.
Buying a home can be an easy process if you know what you are looking for and you take the
appropriate steps. Before anything is done, people must understand that it s an important and long
term process. Follow these steps so that you can be aware of what to expect when you decide to buy a
home. First, make sure you have money saved up before you start looking to buy! Once you re ready
to start the process, decide which area you want to live in and what style of house you desire. Do you
prefer the country or city? Do you want acres of land? If you have children, you might want to
consider school districts as well when planning on where you want to live. You will find, the more
houses you look at, that what you thought you wanted, you can live without. Some people may not
know what their looking for just yet, and that s okay too. Secondly, contact a mortgage broker and get
prequalified for a loan to see how much you can afford to spend on a home and which type of loan is
the best for you. There are a couple of different loans out there that you may or may not be eligible for
based on your income and credit score. After the broker has pre qualified you for a certain loan
amount, then you must decide if you are comfortable spending that amount on a home. You can
always spend less than

Essay On Mindfulness Meditation
1. Mindfulness Meditation
Mindfulness Meditation is an adaptation from traditional Buddhist meditation practices.
For a beginner, this is perhaps the most advisable way to get started with meditation. It is the type of
meditation that is most taught at schools and hospitals.
Mindfulness meditation is the practice of intentionally focusing on the present moment, accepting and
non judgmentally paying attention to the sensations, thoughts, and emotions that arise.
How to do it:
Sit on a cushion on the floor, or on a chair, with straight and unsupported back. Pay close attention to
the movement of your breath. When you breath in, be aware that you are breathing in, and how it
feels. When you breath out, be aware you are breathing out. Do like this for ... Show more content on

Your mind will get distracted into going along with sounds, sensations, and thoughts. Whenever that
happens, gently recognize that you have been distracted, and bring the attention back to the breathing,
or to the objective noticing of that thought or sensation. There is a big different between being inside
the thought/sensation, and simply being aware of it s presence.
There is also the practice of mindfulness during our daily activities: while eating, walking, and
talking. For daily life meditation, the practice is to pay attention to what is going on in the present
moment, to be aware of what is happening and not living in automatic mode . If you we speaking, that
means paying attention to the words we speak, how we speak them, and to listen with presence and
attention. If we are walking, that means being more aware of our body movements, our feet touching
the ground, the sounds you we hearing, etc.
Our effort in seated practice supports our daily life practice, and vice versa. They are both equally
important.

The Prisons By Doris Lessing
Human behavior is influenced by several factors and guidelines that apply differently in various
situations. We are continually obliged to act in a specific manner, or to stay away from certain
behaviors. These principles can either be formal or informal rules. Formal rules include laws of the
land, whereas informal rules are the morals and social ethics that guide various communities which
may not need to be written down, but are constrained within self. This paper, therefore, seeks to focus
on the factors that influence the human thoughts and actions in reference to Doris Lessing book, The
prisons we choose to live in . The actions and reasoning of human beings is guided by a combination
of several factors such as moral rules, social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rule breaking conduct is not the aftereffect of an intentional act; sometimes it may be as a result of a
subconscious act (Lessing 1987). Consequently, the way people think and act is directly affected.
Attitudes and behaviors Attitude is a major factor that largely influences the thinking of people.
Generally, it is believed that by any chance you change somebody s attitudes, then; their behavior will
likewise change to fall in accordance with those changes. The impacts of the social media on the on
the attitudes and behaviors is enormous. Mass media affects the people s attitude towards societal
issues through music, advertisements, gender roles and violence. An extensive number of variables
will influence those attitudes. A change in attitude towards some of these issues can ultimately
influence the actions and thinking of people. The behavior and attitudes of people determine a lot of
the decisions that they make (Lessing, 1987). The society is willing to accept or entertain the irrational
beliefs, thus, the society s attitude towards irrational decisions influences a lot on the way individual
think and act.
Habits
A habit is a routine thing that tends to be repeated regularly and it tends to occur unconsciously. The
precognitive capacity of the human being is limited. We can just consider a specific number of things
at once. Habits enable us to manage circumstances that we have experienced before, without involving

Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) is a Safe Treatment for...
A. Thesis Statement
Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is a treatment for severe mental illness in which the brain is
stimulated with a strong electrical current which induces a seizure. The seizure rearranges the brain s
neurochemistry and results in an elevation of mood. This essay asks: Is ECT any safer and more
effective in treating mood disorders than drug therapies? This treatment has a controversial history
ever since it was first introduced in 1938. I intend to argue that electroconvulsive therapy is indeed a
safe treatment of mental disorders when other treatments have failed. Due to the development of safer
and less traumatic ways of administering ECT, the treatment has made a comeback, is greatly used,
and proves to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
C. Central Issue
Since its beginning, the issue of the safety and efficacy of ECT has existed, and thus its use has been
always remained controversial (Weiner Krystal, 1994). Even with the modern development of ECT,
some of the same issues are still prevalent. There are two sides here: the advocates that support the use
of the treatment, and those who do not. This is explored next.
The first argument for the use of ECT is the fact that majority of studies and modern literature show
that this treatment is very successful in treating many psychological disorders. Evidence seems
strongest for the efficacy in severely depressed patients, as well as manic patients (Reisner, 2003).
When looking at those with major depression, the likelihood of substantial improvement ranges from
80 90% (Weiner Krystal, 1994). In manic patients, Gabbard concludes that 80% of patients show
marked improvement (2001, p.1272).
The second argument for the use of ECT is that successful treatments induce remission in episodes of
illness (Gabbard, 2001). The evidence supporting this conclusion is compelling and includes a sizable
number of well controlled sham ECT studies. In these studies, patients were randomized to receive
real ECT or sham ECT (which involves anaesthesia but no electrical stimulation), thus providing for
precise double blind tests of efficacy (Gabbard, 2001). One misconception is that it provides a cure .
This is not the case it does not produce a cure any

La Antigüedad Del Mundo Poem Analysis
Here, the poet implies the concept of the life absurdity through using special grammar structures in
order to show trivia and the insignificance of living. As a result of the conditions of the world and the
fear and hatred toward death shown in these quatrains, the poet reaches to the result that all things
have the same value which leads to the idea of the meaninglessness of everything including the world.

While Khayyam has a negative and pessimistic viewpoint to the life in some of his ruba is, on the
whole, he comes to terms with life as it is rather than exhausting himself in the futile quest for the
meaning of life and the world. It should be considered that Khayyam was not an illiterate person. He
was a great mathematician and an astronomer who knew a lot about the space and the position of
human beings in the world. In this sense, he as a scholar felt nothingness in the huge area of the
existence and being. Consequently, Khayyam as an active nihilist prefers living even in a purposeless
world rather than committing suicide. He prescribes a general prescription for his fellowmen. One
which motivates them to live but not to think deeply about the existence since it will deteriorate a
common person s life because he will be unable to understand and justifies his presence on the Earth
which can lead to chronic feelings of emptiness and in its extremist form to committing suicide. For

Culture Of The Lincoln Electric Company
Written Assignment Unit 3
Culture of the Lincoln Electric Company The company culture of Lincoln Electric is one of teamwork,
support and innovation. After reading and reviewing the case study done on Lincoln Electric by Arthur
Sharplin of McNeese State University, I have come away with a better understanding of how the
company has become the role model for management world wide.
Many different programs have been incorporated into the company that insures morale and
productivity levels remain high. Among these include end of year bonuses, good merit rewards, and
great benefits, all of which we go into detail later on.
How this culture came to be in the Lincoln Company begins with the founder s values and principles.

If it did control our acts, the savings in cost of distribution would be tremendous. Advertising would
be a contact of the expert consultant with the customer, in order to give the customer the best product
available when all of the customer s needs are considered. Competition then would be in improving
the quality of products and increasing efficiency in producing and distributing them; not in deception,
as is now too customary. Pricing would reflect efficiency of production; it would not be selling a
dodge that the customer may well be sorry he accepted. It would be proper for all concerned and
rewarding for the ability used in producing the product. (Lincoln, 1961)
It is said that early company values exert influence over future company values. This is true in the
case of Lincoln electric. As stated earlier, many programs have been incorporated into the business to
aid employees. The first year the advisory board was put into place, the work week went from 55 to 50
hours. In 1915, the company gave each employee a life insurance policy. In 1917, a welding school
was created which still continues today. In 1918, a bonus plan was put into action on trial basis. It was
removed and then reinserted later and became a strong point of Lincoln s management system. In
1919, Lincoln created the Employee Assocation to provide health benefits and social activities for
employees. By 1923, employees were given two weeks paid vacation

A Man By The Name Of Species By Charles R. Darwin
Introduction
A man by the name of Charles R. Darwin published a book that was titled On the Origin of Species by
Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favored Races in the Struggle for Life, (typically
called The Origin of Species). Published in 1859, this book caused a great dispute in the world of
science. You see, in his book Darwin was just trying to answer an age old question How Did We Get
Here? without ever referring to a supernatural creator. This book shocked the science community. Up
until now, science was linked to god. The idea to some people that science and God were not together
was astonishing. But to others it was horrendous. These people couldn t believe a scientist who didn t

He mainly concentrated on the finches. Many science historians give credit to the birds (Darwin s
Finches) in inspiring Darwin s theory. Let s look at the birds. Bird 1 has thick long beak. Bird 2 has a
thick short beak. Bird 3 has a tiny stub like beak while bird 4 has a short narrow beak. Also their food
preferences varied between the species. The big beaked birds could crack a shell of an egg, while the
small beaked birds could only eat insects. What does this prove? They are a good example of micro
evolution. They show us that finches can vary in their morphology, and that natural selection has a
role in this. HOWEVER...This study does not give evidence for macro evolution, and does not prove
that natural selection and random mutation could produce the living world as we know it from simple
single celled ancestors.
Microevolution VS. Macroevolution
Darwin was able to derail an idea that each individual species on the earth was specially created by
God and could never fundamentally change. How? Darwin compared domestic the domesticated
versions of many animals with that of their wild counterparts. Example. Wild dogs behaved different
from domesticated dogs. Fact most domesticated dogs cannot reproduce with wild ones. Thus
domestic dogs were considered a whole different species however, domestic dogs were only wild dogs
that the breeder trained. Dog breeders would selectively mate these dogs that had allowed
reproducing. This manmade selection Darwin realized this

Essay on Norwegian Business Culture
Norwegian Business Culture
In contrast to the indirect, roundabout language common in much of Asia, Latin America and the
Middle East, Norwegians typically use direct straightforward language. They tend to be blunt and
honest about their business ideas and feelings. However, most Norwegians are somewhat less direct
than Danes and Germans. For instance, when not really interested in a particular deal, they may be
reluctant to say so bluntly. In this they are similar to many British negotiators.

Touch Behavior
There is little touching in business situations except for the handshake. Avoid arm grabbing and
backslapping. Visitors from expressive, high contact cultures should not misinterpret Norwegian
reserve as coldness or arrogance.
Eye Contact
Like many Northern Europeans and North Americans, Norwegians normally employ moderate gaze
behavior, ie alternately looking their counterparts in the eye and then looking away. This may confuse
Arabs and Latins, who are accustomed to strong, steady eye contact. On the other hand, Norwegian
gaze behavior may confuse many Asians. Negotiators from these cultures are used to soft, indirect eye
contact, and equate the Scandinavian gaze with staring, which is regarded as rude, hostile behavior.
Making Appointments
Visitors should have confirmed appointments. Although references and introductions are useful
anywhere in the world, you can also contact Norwegian companies directly by telephone, fax or mail
to make an appointment. Intermediaries are much less important than in Asia, Latin America and the
Middle East.
Terms of Address
Although Norwegians usually address each other rather informally and use first names. However,
when introduced for the first time, address your counterpart by Mr or Ms and their surname Ms
Jensen. Wait for your local counterpart to suggest switching to first names. Male visitors should not be

A Summary Of Women Effrage
Gender gap cannot be dismantled by only amending laws against sex discrimination, but when it
enables all to the same share in law. Women need to break through barriers to be on the path to
success. Women are not men and need not compete with men to show her vitality. Women bleeds and
is not a choice, this does not mean men need to bleed. Women require challenging patriarchy rather
than each other. Akhila had a barrier in her life of her fears to do things for herself. Fear can give no
power, but facing truth sets a being free. Her emotions are not to be squished but nurtured well.
Wearing masks one after another to please the society only weakens the natural energy of a female.
We need not cover up our insecurity from the world. Women should stop dying from things that
happened in past. It is ok to be imperfect, which is human. Women do not require finding their identity
in the comparison with men. When a woman stands up to voice for herself, she raises up for all the
women globally.
Anita Nair s Ladies Coupe has narratives by six women characters who by chance meet in a train
ladies coupe that Akhilandeswari alias Akhila boards in. all the women speak of the repressive forces
of a patriarchal India. Though they are from different community or cultural, all women share pain in
different means. The novel is a bildungsroman either narrating the childhood to adulthood life or the
characters liberation by developing confidence to shun the web of patriarchal metaphors.

Ratios describe the various relationships among accounts in the balance sheet and income statement.
Financial ratios are important and helpful gauges of how an organization is functioning. An
organization s financial health, potential revenue, and even possible bankruptcy can be garnered from
financial ratios. Information derived from financial statements is used to calculate most ratios and
make projections. Ratios help investors and lenders determine the risk associated with lending or
investing funds in an organization (GE Financial Healthcare Services, 2003, para 1). According to

Expense Ratios
Personnel Costs Ratio Costs related to staffing generally take up the largest portion of the budget.
Adjustments to staffing percentages are easily seen in the budget. Formula: Total wages, taxes and

FS 2009: $1,446,010 / $14,584,770 = 0.09 or 9%
FS 2008: $1,199,759 / $12,678,305 = 0.09 or 9% The Children s Home maintains a low personnel
costs ratio. The trend over the last three years shows a steady staffing percentage with a slight growth.
The benchmark for this ratio is set by the board or is by comparison to industry peers. This

Spotify Impact
Streaming has had a massive impact on the the music industry within the last few years. One of the
most well known impacts for the music industry, was the launch of Spotify in 2008, which has
changed the way people listen to music ever since. It has been argued that Spotify do not pay out
fairly to artists but this can also be argued to be due to bad contract deals with record companies.
There are many recognizable examples of why mainstream artists are against music streaming, Lady
Gaga claimed she only earned £108 from one million listens in 2010. Spotify is a legal service and
pays to license songs from all major record labels and although Spotify pays royalties for all the

Tracy was really worried about their exit diagrams around the hospital that they aren t up to code. So
when I was reading I focused on finding out about the exit diagrams. So you re probably wondering
what an exit diagram is so let me explain. When you walk into any hospital or surgery center really
any building you will see a picture on the wall saying, You are here on what looks like a picture
hanging on the wall. So the rule in the handbook about fire safety is that the surgery center has to have
one in every part of the building, the bigger the building the more exit diagrams the facility needs to
have. So as I got to reading in the handbook it made it very clear that these exit diagrams should be
easy to read and understand. So after I read that part I took a walk around the facility just to see what
their exit diagrams even looked like. I hadn t paid much attention to this so I was curious to see what
they looked like. As I walked around the facility looking at the different exit diagrams the more I felt
like they were the furthest from easy to understand. So after I was done taking my walk around the
surgery center I went into Tracy s office she asked me what I read and what I had focused on in the

Political Socialization Essay
Political socialization is a concept that shows the development of children and adolescents who attain
political cognition, attitudes, and behaviors. Political socialization routinely begins in children. There
are multiple factors that influence the political socialization of citizens. Research theorizes that family
and school teachers are the most influential. Recent research also states that media plays an important
role on influence as well. Everything a child does from birth to around the adolescent age is more than
likely taught through family. As a child they tend to look up to who run their household. Certain
views, attitudes, and behaviors are mimicked because that is the only platform that is being viewed at
the time. Families tend to have an impact on children unintentionally by acting an example for
children. It is often that children end up with the same political views as the parents of that household.
Parents do not flat out talk to children about politics directly, but the occasional remarks that are made
often have serious impact. Family beliefs are a factor in the party identification such as lifelong
republican or lifelong democrat. Studies show that children have the same party identification as their
parents even if they have different views from them. The family may be losing it accreditation in
socialization, but it is still a big factor. By an early age political symbols are understood. By the time a

Jonestown Massacre
Every human in this world is promised to something from love to a better country.
Promises are to be true to happen, but sometimes those promises are broken and never to happen. An
example of a broken promised, which was made by a leader of a socialist group, Jim Jones. People
joined a socialist group called People s Temple, who were promised by Jones to move to Jonestown a
place that he created for the people that Jim Jones authorized. Jonestown is located on a little island in
Guyana. Jim Jones decided to move his socialist group over there so they can be isolated from the
authorities. For the reason that he was committing fraud with money. Jim Jones was saying that
People s Temple was a Christian group instead of a socialist group, so ... Show more content on

As Layton explains, There were guards, just teenagers, marching around with guns (Layton 164).
Jonestown was continually attacked and Jim Jones would call those attacks White Nights. As, Layton
tells what Jim Jones would say about White Nights, They [CIA] want to invade and kill us. Father
says that they ll try again, too. We ve had several attacks. Father calls them White Nights since it is
white men who are trying to ruin our project here (Layton 160). Jonestown people got to actually live
horrible attacks when they were in Guyana then when they were in the city. As said, Jim Jones wanted
to move to Guyana because it is a small island isolated from every harm that there is, yet they moved
to where the harm was occurring at the moment. As Jim Jones promised to his people that wanted to
stop all the violence. An example was when Jones was trying to recruit people to the Promise Land,
Help me eradicated injustice from all our lives...Be a part of a fellowship that will work to rid our
society of hatred, racism, and poverty...Through my ministry you can help make history. As a group,
we can wipe out racism and immorality throughout America (Layton 36). In the other hand, Martin
Luther King Jr. dream was that he wanted to stop the violence that was going around the world due to
racism. King Jr. explains, We can never be satisfied as long as the Negro is the victim of the
unspeakable horrors of police brutality (King Jr., Middle). People were being attacked just by their
skin color, which was unfair. At the end, Jones did little to make his promises come true; as he was the
one who caused all the violence in

Analysis Of A Song Of Despair By Pablo Neruda
In the poem A Song of Despair Pablo Neruda chronicles the reminiscence of a love between two
characters, with the main speaker s perspective showing the changes between their relationship from a
once fruitful, to a now broken relationship. From this Neruda attempts to showcase the significance of
contrasting imagery to demonstrate the speaker s various emotions felt throughout the experience.
This contrasting imagery specifically develops the reader s understanding of abandonment, sadness,
change, and memory. The significant language features Neruda uses to accomplish this include:
similes, nautical imagery, floral imagery, and apostrophe. Firstly Neruda uses contrasting imagery of
difficulty to represent the speakers troubled relationship. This is presented using diction in the
quotation How terrible and brief my desire of you! How difficult and drunken, how tensed and avid.
From the words terrible and brief the feeling of a short, abysmal experience can be seen. This is paired
with the verb desire which suggests a longing, or wanting for something, subsequently referring to the
sexual desire of the speaker s past relationship . As a desire is typically wanted for, pairing it with a
short, horrible experience shows the significance of contrasting imagery used by Neruda to show the
drastic change of emotions which is a consequence of their troubled relationship. This is continued as
Neruda describes the desire using alliteration in the phrase difficult and

The Car
As I blinked my eyes open, I remembered the screeching of the car. My heart racing at felt like a
thousand s, I finally remembered it had happened so quickly. I layed down until my mind
comprehended what was happening. I heard an easy voice in the distance, Are you all right? It was the
paramedics talking to little sisters. I tried to yell, but the medics walked up to me and patted me up,
and told me to go get my sisters and follow her to the ambulance. I ran crying and breathing harshly
and complaining that they wanted my mom. I felt like crying but I could not. I had to keep my sisters,
who are still 4 years old calm. We went to the ambulance and waited. Then the police officer walked
up to us and asked us some question. I asked him if, I could look for my dad but he handed me. My
dad s phone and my mom s necklace. He told me that the paramedics took them to the hospital. The
police officer thanked us and climbed out the ambulance. The medic closed the door and drove us to
the hospital. As I entered the building, the nurse tapped my shoulder excuse me are those your
parents? She showed me the picture. Yes but where are they? she didn t reply, she just bowed her head
and held my hands, I took a deep breath and ask her again do know where are my parents have passed

better performance by incapacitating approximately limits that waves outdated term identical methods.
These word matching techniques have constantly relied on matching query terms with document terms

On How My Travel Experiences Changed My Views of Life
I thought I would discuss my travel experiences and how it has changed my views of life. I have been
to the Caribbean many times, for example, Cuba, Mexico, The Dominican Republic, St. Maarten to
name a few. I have also backpacked through Thailand and would like to discuss what I have learned
from a few of these countries and how these experiences have affected my perspective.
Travelling to Cuba for the first time was amazing. Having only travelled to Mexico once before my
first trip to Cuba I noticed a contrast in cultures even though my assumption was they would be
similar because they are both Spanish speaking. My first trip to Varadero was over 12 years ago. I was
informed that the locals valued tips of crayons, toothbrushes, razors, and toiletries, but I was unsure
why. I later realized it was because of the embargos, they had no, or very limited access to, these items
and many more. I remember going into Havana and while taking in the breathtaking sights, being
followed by many locals who were rubbing their arms. I had no idea what was going on and was later
informed that they were asking for soap. SOAP! I thought to myself, not money or food, but soap?
Something I had taken for granted my whole life. In my many discussions with the locals I learned
they were very educated, most of whom were doctors and environmental or corporate lawyers.
Education is free in Cuba and homes are also provided for free, therefore, many Cubans go to

However, the failure of the United States to join the League consequently resulted in a lack of interest
of international enthusiasm towards the League. It gradually became ineffectual as it failed to deal
with growing international crises in the mid 1920 to 1930 s. This failure immediately caused much
unrest in France for it was relying on help should Germany pose as a threat in the later years. The
problem was solved when Great Britain and the United States agreed to form a defensive alliance
should France come under attack. Nonetheless, France was still wary towards Germany, particularly
because after the war, Germany suffered from a rising inflation, and after a year of paying France war
indemnities, they were unable to continue to do so. Because the French were afraid that Germany was
violating the Treaty of Versailles, troops were sent in to occupy the Rubs valley until Germany was
able to allocate the funds. Both countries suffered because of this. German money became worthless
as the government scrambled to print paper money, and the maintenance of French troops in German
territory was costly for the French as well.
Germans were particularly angered by the war resolutions and deemed the provisions of the Treaty
unjust and unfair. According to the Treaty of Versailles, Germany was required to give up various
territories, such as Alsace, West

The Uk Constitution And The United States
Often the UK constitution is asserted to be the most unique in the world, as its sources are a piece of
historical significance as they come from great British heritage. From the case of Jackson and others v
Her Majesty s Attorney General, Lord Steyn stated that We do not in the UK have an uncontrolled
constitution . In general terms a person may judge the UK constitution to be uncontrolled due to it
being unwritten, as it is derived from a wide range of sources. Which vary from common law to
international treaties. However on the other side of the spectre, a written constitution is one like the
USA s, embodied into a single document. Putting aside the fact that the UK constitution is from a
variety of different sources, it must be verified that it has worked successfully to this date from 1689
when the supremacy of parliament over the crown was introduced, following the glorious revolution.
It can also be said that, why would the UK constitution be classed as uncontrolled, if it has worked for
hundreds of years and it is still going strong.
A constitution is generally there for one purpose, it sets out the framework and principal functions of
the organs of government and by setting out these functions the UK has been growing and adapting.
We in other words have an evolutionary constitution. If it ever came to a time where a written
constitution was enacted, it would indeed disrupt the infrastructure of the UK as they are inflexible.
Clear inflexibility is shown by

OVERVIEW OF ERP In today s competitive environment, organisations need to be reformed to get
competitive advantages. The most efficient and effective way to achieve this goal is to introduce a new
information system (IS). Chen et al (2012) One of the big systems is enterprise resources planning
which is an application software which has a broad set of activities supported by many modules that
integrates all business processes and data into a single system which helps businesses keep track and
access to all their daily data. Jalal, a (2011) ISSUES CHALLENGES There are many issues and
challenges in implementing an ERP system for the first time or even upgrading from an old ERP
system. One of the biggest challenges with an ERP system change is getting the everyday user to
accept the change and adapt to the new processes as quickly as possible. A big reason why user
adoption to the ERP is difficult is because the users fear and resist change. Markham, Webb, (2012)
Another reason is user s engagement at the design and implementation phase. A study by Stephen
Gourlay at Kingston Business School (2010) found that the previous mentioned challenges were the
two biggest challenges users faced when adapting to ERP implementation. They noted that end users
can often be

It would effect Earth very negatively. This is because most plants would stop making energy from the

cause a ripple effect. Little energy would be made after that. Also, the planet would cool considerably.

Israel in 1948. The primary cause of the fighting between Arab Israeli is the rejection of Israel exists
in the Middle East. The first known outburst of Arab Israeli conflict occurred in 1948. The United
Nations stepped in to ensure peace in the Middle East, but that peace ended in 1967 when Gamal
Abdel Nasser, the Egyptian President, instigated another war, with the intent to annihilate Israel. He
successfully formed an alliance with all Arab countries to include Jordan and Syria, leaving Israel s

He coordinated ground attacks with air strikes at Sinai Peninsula, defeating Egypt s divisions, and
conquered Sinai on June 6th. General Rabin ordered Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) to engage the
Jordanian forces at West Bank on June 5th. Jordan was defeated, and Israel gained West Bank on June
6th. Following that Battle, IDF seized Jerusalem on June 8th. The final battle was against the Syrian
force at Golan Heights on June 9th and 10th. Before mobilizing ground units in Golan Heights, IAF
executed a two hour air strike (Dunstan Dennis 2009), Israel conquered Golan Heights in two days
followed by the end of the Six Day War on June 10th, 1967.
The Mission Command Principle Analysis of Yitzhak Rabin during the Six Day War
During these battles, there are clear examples of General Rabin successfully building cohesive teams
through mutual trust. Before the war, Rabin had no other option but to plan a deliberate attack against
Egypt and his allies. He ensured that all his staff was present and contributed to the plan. According to
Dayan, Before fighting began, Israel s General Staff sat down to plan the coming battle. Armed
sentries blocked the entrance to the army headquarters. The noise of radios is incessantly pour out

The Patient Will See You Now
HMO Book Report Poster: The Patient Will See You Now
Summary:
The book, The Patient Will See You Now, by Eric Topol, withholds an extreme amount of educational
value and discusses how the vast world of medicine can combine with the ever expanding world of
technology to make things such as medical information, diagnoses, treatments, and even prescriptions
at our fingertips. This book takes the point of view from Dr. Eric Topol, a cardiologist who is trying to
better the world of medicine while increasing the convenience of it at the same time. The goal that Dr.
Topol is trying to establish is that in this day and age, there is absolutely no need for one to have to
wait so long to see a doctor. In fact, why should the general population have to wait what feels like
hours in a waiting room, or even days for an appointment to be made when everything can be
presented right in front of us? Medicine is advancing at such a fast rate that now scientists and doctors
can find cures to diseases in a matter of months, or sometimes even days after they are discovered.
Since we have such high advances in the fields of science and medicine, people all over the world
(more than just doctors and nurses) should have access to know what these diseases do and how to
cure them the second that they are discovered. This concept seems something that would be nearly
impossible to achieve, but thanks to breakthroughs in new technology and silicon, this dream can
surely turn into a reality.

  • 2. Theme Of Satire In Gulliver s Travels Satire in Gulliver s Travels First published in 1726, Gulliver s Travels is a momentous piece of literature which defined the satirical genre and empowered writers of following generations to assume the responsibility of keeping the government in check and exposing corruption. The novel accomplices this through its nuanced prose and wild exhibitions of imagery, subliminally mocking and satirizing facets of the cultures he s introduced to. Exploring themes of corruption, religious division and hypocrisy, and cultural progressivism, Gulliver s travels implements and employs various allusions and metaphors as a means of pushing his agenda. Throughout the novel Gulliver is confronted with the existential and philosophical question of inherent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This contrast is best exhibited between the inhabitants of Gulliver s third and fourth voyage, as their societies are exhibit a proclivity for the scientific world and the natural world, respectively. This contrast evokes thought over what makes an advanced society and alludes to the intellectual and traditional wars raging in Europe, both in the academic realm with hobbes and in the political realm as the concept of self governance began to emerge. Gulliver s travels is irrevocably one of the most influential and notorious novels to ever be written. The critiques of society were felt like a sting throughout the continent while his humorous tales warmed the spirits of many citizens. The novel s striking satire helped define a generation and propel literature into a new mindset and motivation. The clever metaphors and well constructed allusions allowed for a cohesive and intriguing depiction of a fantasy through a realistic lense. Gulliver s Travels allowed readers to travel to distant utopias and dystopias and travel back, spreading knowledge and ideologies for the progress of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Abdominoplasty Essay Questions What Patients Need to Know A tummy tuck, also referred to as abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure that removes excess fat and skin in the abdominal area. Before asking Am I a good tummy tuck candidate, patients need to know that a tummy tuck is not a substitute for weight loss. Diet and exercise should be used as a weight loss aid prior to a tummy tuck. The ideal candidate for this surgery is someone at a healthy weight for his or her age, height, and body type. Ideal candidates have loose, excessive skin in the lower abdominal region. This skin could be the result of extreme weight loss, pregnancy, or aging. Patients approved for a tummy tuck will have two incisions made: one in the lower abdomen and one around the navel. The fat and skin are then separated from the abdominal muscles. The muscles are trimmed to give the tummy a tighter look and stitched into place. The skin is re stretched over the muscles and any excess skin is removed. As a society people have chosen religion over common sense, since time has started turning its devious hands. With no scientific evidence to prove the benefits of Vitamin O, the two companies from Washington agreed to a settlement of $375,000 for consumer compensation. The settlement prohibited the Vitamin O manufacturers from making claims that were unsupported about the Vitamin O health benefits. Testimonials and endorsements of product represented through previous experience from members of the public who used the product were also prohibited in the settlement. • 9. Taking a Look at the Earth s Biosphere The Earth s biosphere is considered to be the most inclusive layer on the planet; simply put, the biosphere is where life happens. What makes the biosphere so exceptional is the fact that there is no record of life existing anywhere else in space. All of the organisms that inhibit the biosphere impact it in some way. However, humans have the largest impact on the biosphere through the means of industrialization, reproduction, and consumption. As with all of the other organisms inhibiting the biosphere, humans have basic needs in order to thrive. We need habitats, protection, reproductive success, and sustenance. However, unlike other organisms, we have proclivities that span beyond the essential tools needed to survive. We have the unique gift of insight, and with it, the ability to innovate beyond the parameters of any other species on the planet. From the use of fire to the invention of the smartphone, there is a continuum of technological advances. In today s industrialized societies, these technological conveniences have become vital in order for one to compete for resources. Voluntourism chains travel with voluntary work, drawing individuals seeking a tourist experience that will positively benefit the society and their personal development (Raymond and Hall 2008, p. 530) Getting your hands dirty is a selling point (McGloin Georgeou 2015, p. 407) and at the heart it s an individual s desire to help others. Furthermore, tourists that often go on such volunteering trips are young graduates with minimal knowledge and skills about the outer world and cultures (Wearing 2001, p. 146). This could potentially lead to generalised views of other cultures and may even lead to imposing their own culture on others, with or without intention. It is essential that volunteers are appropriately qualified and prepared so that they are perceived positively by their hosts and can make a genuine contribution, rather than simply absorbing time and resources (Raymond and Hall 2008, p. 531). Without the fundamental material and understanding the plight of people in poor lands, the promise of good outcomes would be counter productive and may only serve to imprint power and authority (McGloin, Georgeou 2015, p. 409). Reinforcing the fact that people in the slums may comprehend the status of visitors and their dominance over their constructions, which influences their poverty and underpins their lack of power in society (Raymond and Hall 2008, p. 533). Voluntourism, when combined with unskilled tourists in this imperialistic world, becomes very exploitative. Geoengineering is the deliberate manipulation of an environment process that affects the earth s climate in an attempt to counteract the effects of global warming, it is a wake up call that our planet is dying. Geoengineering studies include the principles which are intended to guide development, the categories: solar geoengineering and carbon geoengineering, which are aimed to tackle temperature and the techniques used to gather data that could change and be good for the planet. Geoengineering research is still at a very early stage but may need to be developed sooner due to the world which is ever changing for the worse, but never the less it is still important that scientist are given the space within which to ask and to try and answer difficult questions, only through combined modeling and field research can we generate the evidence base for a salient answer on whether climate engineering is a good or bad ... • 15. Alice In Wonderland Power This essay will consider Lewis Carroll s presentation of Alice in Alice s Adventures in Wonderland, specifically within the Pig and Pepper chapter. Alice wishes to master the unfamiliar world of Wonderland, in much the same way as Victorian Britain gained global power through colonization. In this essay, I will argue that Carroll uses Alice s role as Victorian representative to criticise this dominant global position Britain held during its imperial century . Alice initially perceives Wonderland as a world that she can overpower and benefit from, much as imperialist Britain benefited from its territories resources. She does not succeed, however, and by the end of both the chapter and overall narrative, finds that compliant interactions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The importance of learning from other cultures, rather than maintaining imperialistic superiority by holding Victorian England above the rest, is communicated. This is indicated through Alice s transition to a more adaptable state, which is again represented through her interactions with the infant. When caring for the baby, Alice tells it not to grunt, as that s not at all a proper way of expressing yourself. In dictating to the baby the proper etiquette regarding expression, Alice is initially projecting her own Victorian society onto it. She views her society as superior, and so requires that the infant act in the same way as one from her own world. However, the description of Alice holding the baby makes it clear that she is beginning to understand that there is no fixed, constantly correct way of doing things. Carroll states that she made out the proper way of nursing it (which was to twist it up into a sort of knot, and then keep tight hold of its right ear and left foot, so as to prevent its undoing itself) The repetition of the word proper is telling here: the proper way of treating this Wonderland child is in fact very different from what the proper way would be in Alice s world. Consequently, Alice learns she cannot simply project her own culture onto Wonderland, and must instead operate with more open mindedness regarding differing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Secondly, this essay will describe what a postnatal abdominal palpation is, why it is done and what the outcomes may be. It will also describe the anatomy and physiology of a uterus and involution. Lastly, a description of how the assessment is conducted and how during this partnership and cultural safety is maintained by the midwife. The partnership between a woman and her midwife is the key to a successful birth experience. This partnership is a professional friendship that allows midwives to get to know women and their bodies. This model identifies midwifery partnership as a relationship of sharing between the women and the midwife, involving trust, shared control and responsibility and shared meaning through mutual understanding. It is the sharing relationship which constitutes midwifery and it is one which spans the life experience of pregnancy and childbirth. (Guilliland, K., Pairman, S, 2010, p. 7). This partnership is formed throughout the continuity of care Model. According to Leap Pairman (2010) The development of this partnership relationship relies on midwives being able to work in continuity of care models so that mutual trust and understanding between midwives and women can evolve over time (p. 338). The Table By Sylvia Plath Tone The Table, written in 1998 by Ted Hughes, is a free verse poem communicating the idea of loss, using the death of his wife, Sylvia Plath, as his form of expressing his experiences and interpretations of the topic. The change of tone from the beginning to the end of the poem assists the idea of loss, as well as the language used and the strong use of imagery. Ted Hughes wife, Sylvia Plath, struggled with depression for most of her life. Hughes seems to be using this poem as an opportunity to convince the reader of his desire to support her love of writing but it was through her writing that she was truly able to express her own grief and loss and to eventually let her long dead father back into her life the result being Hughes losing his wife to her father. It shows a person s responsibility and commitment. Buying a home can be an easy process if you know what you are looking for and you take the appropriate steps. Before anything is done, people must understand that it s an important and long term process. Follow these steps so that you can be aware of what to expect when you decide to buy a home. First, make sure you have money saved up before you start looking to buy! Once you re ready to start the process, decide which area you want to live in and what style of house you desire. Do you prefer the country or city? Do you want acres of land? If you have children, you might want to consider school districts as well when planning on where you want to live. You will find, the more houses you look at, that what you thought you wanted, you can live without. Some people may not know what their looking for just yet, and that s okay too. Secondly, contact a mortgage broker and get prequalified for a loan to see how much you can afford to spend on a home and which type of loan is the best for you. There are a couple of different loans out there that you may or may not be eligible for based on your income and credit score. The seizure rearranges the brain s neurochemistry and results in an elevation of mood. This essay asks: Is ECT any safer and more effective in treating mood disorders than drug therapies? This treatment has a controversial history ever since it was first introduced in 1938. Central Issue Since its beginning, the issue of the safety and efficacy of ECT has existed, and thus its use has been always remained controversial (Weiner Krystal, 1994). Even with the modern development of ECT, some of the same issues are still prevalent. There are two sides here: the advocates that support the use of the treatment, and those who do not. This is explored next. The first argument for the use of ECT is the fact that majority of studies and modern literature show that this treatment is very successful in treating many psychological disorders. Evidence seems strongest for the efficacy in severely depressed patients, as well as manic patients (Reisner, 2003). When looking at those with major depression, the likelihood of substantial improvement ranges from 80 90% (Weiner Krystal, 1994). In manic patients, Gabbard concludes that 80% of patients show marked improvement (2001, p.1272). The second argument for the use of ECT is that successful treatments induce remission in episodes of illness (Gabbard, 2001). The evidence supporting this conclusion is compelling and includes a sizable number of well controlled sham ECT studies. In these studies, patients were randomized to receive real ECT or sham ECT (which involves anaesthesia but no electrical stimulation), thus providing for precise double blind tests of efficacy (Gabbard, 2001). One of the most well known impacts for the music industry, was the launch of Spotify in 2008, which has changed the way people listen to music ever since. It has been argued that Spotify do not pay out fairly to artists but this can also be argued to be due to bad contract deals with record companies. There are many recognizable examples of why mainstream artists are against music streaming, Lady Gaga claimed she only earned £108 from one million listens in 2010. Spotify is a legal service and pays to license songs from all major record labels and although Spotify pays royalties for all the listening that occurs on their service, they distribute nearly 70% of revenues back to the right holders, such as; publishers, distributors and the independent artists themselves. Tracy was really worried about their exit diagrams around the hospital that they aren t up to code. So when I was reading I focused on finding out about the exit diagrams. So you re probably wondering what an exit diagram is so let me explain. When you walk into any hospital or surgery center really any building you will see a picture on the wall saying, You are here on what looks like a picture hanging on the wall. So the rule in the handbook about fire safety is that the surgery center has to have one in every part of the building, the bigger the building the more exit diagrams the facility needs to have. So as I got to reading in the handbook it made it very clear that these exit diagrams should be easy to read and understand. So after I read that part I took a walk around the facility just to see what their exit diagrams even looked like. I hadn t paid much attention to this so I was curious to see what they looked like. As I walked around the facility looking at the different exit diagrams the more I felt like they were the furthest from easy to understand. So after I was done taking my walk around the surgery center I went into Tracy s office she asked me what I read and what I had focused on in the reading today. So I told her about the exit diagrams and what they needed to pass code for when they get surveyed in the upcoming months. I asked her to come with me so I could show her some things, we then took a walk around the facility I asked her how easy she thought these exit diagrams were to read. Tracy looked at me and said you know I ve never really looked at the exit diagrams because I know this place like the back of my hand, I ve been here for so long she said to me. Political socialization routinely begins in children. There are multiple factors that influence the political socialization of citizens. Research theorizes that family and school teachers are the most influential. Recent research also states that media plays an important role on influence as well. Everything a child does from birth to around the adolescent age is more than likely taught through family. As a child they tend to look up to who run their household. Certain views, attitudes, and behaviors are mimicked because that is the only platform that is being viewed at the time. Families tend to have an impact on children unintentionally by acting an example for children. It is often that children end up with the same political views as the parents of that household. Parents do not flat out talk to children about politics directly, but the occasional remarks that are made often have serious impact. Family beliefs are a factor in the party identification such as lifelong republican or lifelong democrat. Studies show that children have the same party identification as their parents even if they have different views from them. The family may be losing it accreditation in socialization, but it is still a big factor. By an early age political symbols are understood. • 42. Analysis Of A Song Of Despair By Pablo Neruda In the poem A Song of Despair Pablo Neruda chronicles the reminiscence of a love between two characters, with the main speaker s perspective showing the changes between their relationship from a once fruitful, to a now broken relationship. From this Neruda attempts to showcase the significance of contrasting imagery to demonstrate the speaker s various emotions felt throughout the experience. This contrasting imagery specifically develops the reader s understanding of abandonment, sadness, change, and memory. The significant language features Neruda uses to accomplish this include: similes, nautical imagery, floral imagery, and apostrophe. Firstly Neruda uses contrasting imagery of difficulty to represent the speakers troubled relationship. This is presented using diction in the quotation How terrible and brief my desire of you! How difficult and drunken, how tensed and avid. From the words terrible and brief the feeling of a short, abysmal experience can be seen. This is paired with the verb desire which suggests a longing, or wanting for something, subsequently referring to the sexual desire of the speaker s past relationship . As a desire is typically wanted for, pairing it with a short, horrible experience shows the significance of contrasting imagery used by Neruda to show the drastic change of emotions which is a consequence of their troubled relationship. This is continued as Neruda describes the desire using alliteration in the phrase difficult and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Uk Constitution And The United States Often the UK constitution is asserted to be the most unique in the world, as its sources are a piece of historical significance as they come from great British heritage. From the case of Jackson and others v Her Majesty s Attorney General, Lord Steyn stated that We do not in the UK have an uncontrolled constitution . In general terms a person may judge the UK constitution to be uncontrolled due to it being unwritten, as it is derived from a wide range of sources. Which vary from common law to international treaties. However on the other side of the spectre, a written constitution is one like the USA s, embodied into a single document. Putting aside the fact that the UK constitution is from a variety of different sources, it must be verified that it has worked successfully to this date from 1689 when the supremacy of parliament over the crown was introduced, following the glorious revolution. It can also be said that, why would the UK constitution be classed as uncontrolled, if it has worked for hundreds of years and it is still going strong. A constitution is generally there for one purpose, it sets out the framework and principal functions of the organs of government and by setting out these functions the UK has been growing and adapting. We in other words have an evolutionary constitution. If it ever came to a time where a written constitution was enacted, it would indeed disrupt the infrastructure of the UK as they are inflexible. The Patient Will See You Now HMO Book Report Poster: The Patient Will See You Now Summary: The book, The Patient Will See You Now, by Eric Topol, withholds an extreme amount of educational value and discusses how the vast world of medicine can combine with the ever expanding world of technology to make things such as medical information, diagnoses, treatments, and even prescriptions at our fingertips. This book takes the point of view from Dr. Eric Topol, a cardiologist who is trying to better the world of medicine while increasing the convenience of it at the same time. The goal that Dr. Topol is trying to establish is that in this day and age, there is absolutely no need for one to have to wait so long to see a doctor. In fact, why should the general population have to wait what feels like hours in a waiting room, or even days for an appointment to be made when everything can be presented right in front of us? Medicine is advancing at such a fast rate that now scientists and doctors can find cures to diseases in a matter of months, or sometimes even days after they are discovered. Since we have such high advances in the fields of science and medicine, people all over the world (more than just doctors and nurses) should have access to know what these diseases do and how to cure them the second that they are discovered. This concept seems something that would be nearly impossible to achieve, but thanks to breakthroughs in new technology and silicon, this dream can surely turn into a reality. ...
