How Is Loss Used In Mid Term Break
How is Loss Experienced in the poems Mid Term Break and November? In both the poems
November, by Simon Armitage and Mid Term Break, by Seamus Heaney, the persona is compelled
into that position. They both describe loss as a traumatic experience, which the persona tries to detach
themselves from in order to accept the reality. In November, the persona is burdened with guilt and
self blame. Realising that the situation is inevitable illuminates his fears of ageing and death. Mid
Term Break is an autobiographical poem where the persona (Seamus Heany) maintains a very formal
and distant tone in order to push aside his overwhelming grief. In both poems, the persona tries to
distance themselves from the situation to try and make the experience ... Show more content on

Heaney places the powerful monostich at the end, which intensifies the sombre mood into a powerful
shock to the audience. Comparing a four foot box with a foot for every year doesn t only tell the
audience how brief his brother s life was, but also highlights Heaney s realisation of this harsh,
inescapable horror. By rhyming the phrase bumper knocked him clear with his age on the monostich
links the fragility of the child to the powerful effect on the audience and family. This reminds the
persona and the audience that the impact isn t only on the child, but also on the

Better Than Driving A Car By Landslides
It s a question people can t help but think as the plane begins to speed down the runway, the engines
roar, and you start to go up thousands of feet into the air toward a destination: Are airplanes safer than
cars? It s a fear people don t have when driving a bowling alley or in an Uber or Lyft on the way home
from a friend s house. But the reality is, according to statistics from the United States government,
flying on a plane on average is safer than driving a car by a landslide. Data from the National
Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) shows that in 2015, there were over 32,100 fatal
motor vehicle accidents that lead to just over 35,000 deaths. That comes out to be 1.1298 fatalities per
100 million vehicle miles traveled,

Flag Desecration Essays
Throughout history, Americans have fought hard to gain independence and the freedoms that come
with it. However, some choose to test the limitations of those freedoms. For some time, Americans
have shown their disgust of the American government by burning flags, and even cutting them up to
use as clothing. Although mocking the American government and the flag is disrespectful, revoking
the right to do so would be a violation of freedom of expression, which is guaranteed by the First
Amendment. Those who support the no flag burning amendment argue that the United States flag is a
special case. Because it would undermine the constitution and set a dangerous precedent that will
make it easier for others enact restrictive amendments to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Our constitution must not be tampered with just because flag desecration hurts others feelings. Many
feel that the American flag amendment is a special case. Supreme Court Chief William Rehnquist
claimed it was acceptable to have a narrow, special amendment to protect a special flag from
desecration. ( Consequences 2). Even Thomas Jefferson and James Madison denounced flag burning
as a crime (Brady H 2). Others feel that flag desecration disrespects those who lost their lives for our
country, stating the flag symbolizes the blood that runs through our country. George Whalen, a soldier,
said the stars and stripes of our nations flag is the symbol of our nation s values... It represents loyalty
patriotism and love of our country. ( citizens 3). Those against flag desecration must remember that
the men and women who fought and died for our country were fighting for justice, freedom, and
independence, all of which give one the right to desecrate the flag. Yes, the flag represents these
freedoms, but the constitution ensures them. An amendment revoking this right would lead to limited
individual freedoms and a lack personal responsibility. In addition to violating one s rights of freedom
of expression, the no flag burning amendment gives government the power to decide what American

An American Corporation Outsourcing At The Pennsylvania...
Mark Anner, Associate Professor of Labor and Employment Relations at the Pennsylvania State
University, has written perhaps the most persuasive piece of literature on the reasons for the lack of
progress in workers rights for employees of independent contractors hired in the process of an
American corporation outsourcing to another nation. Before the Rana Plaza Factory Fire in 2012 and
currently still, most of the CSR models focused on voluntary codes of conduct which allowed
corporations to adopt for publicity purposes, yet not fulfill the responsibilities of those agreements,
without facing any consequences. These programs of CSR are extremely unsuccessful, as most
factories and independent contractors cut corners to pass inspections ... Show more content on

However, after the Rana Plaza Factory Fire, major retailers such as H M, Zara, Tommy Hilfiger, and
Calvin Klein entered into an agreement with UNI and IndustriALL, two global union federations in
order to ensure safety for their workers abroad. The signing of this Accord places retailers and branded
corporations at the top of the entities with obligations to its workers below. This Accord imposes on
these buyers substantive obligations most notably, financial obligations to help suppliers pay for safety
upgrades, such as the installation of fire exits, or, in the case of structurally unsound buildings, major
repairs while guaranteeing the payment of workers salaries for time lost at work. Anner and his peers
find this Accord to be the first of many promising and successful steps towards ending these tragedies.
However, I found that contrary to what the media and these retailers may publicize, this accord applies
to Bangladesh only. Many of these corporations have factories within India, China, and Pakistan as
well that are not affected by this agreement. Although this may be one attempt at solving the problems
of global outsourcing, it does not reach far enough.
After voicing his thoughts and hopes on the future accomplishments of the Accord, Anner then
introduces another reason for why many current CSR models have not been as successful as originally
projected. He states that buyers need to play a bigger role in pushing for corporate responsibility and

Ethnic Conflict And Violence In The Rakhine State Of Burma
The origins of ethnic conflict and violence are crucial factors in understanding what motivates groups
to commit such atrocious crimes. In the Rakhine State of Burma a bloody battle has emerged, placing
the Rohingya population of the country in the crosshairs of violent military crackdown and
discrimination by the majority Buddhist population. Due to a long complex relationship between the
different groups of Burma, predominantly the muslims and buddhist, a culture of hatred has cast out
those in the Rakhine State, Muslim population, claiming them to be foreign aliens with no claims to
rights or freedom within the country. Ervin Straub argues that these long standing cultural differences
and living conditions play an integral role in understanding the rationale behind ethnic violence. The
psychological process that goes behind committing these acts is diversely motivated and can create a
strong feeling of hatred and resentment. The persecution of the Rohingya in Burma as a result of deep
rooted cultural differences, an us versus them mentality, and an obedience to authority supports Ervin
Staub s argument that these differences can create mental process and rationale for committing acts of
heinous violence.
The history of violence in the Rakhine State against the Rohingya stretches back to the colonial rule of
Myanmar by the British. For over a century the British ruled the country and set in place policies that
would encourage a new migrant workforce of Rohingya to enter

Medical advancements in World War Two
World War II brought death and destruction upon the world. On the other hand, it also opened doors
for pioneering developments that commonly occur during such situations of high adversity. Some of
the most important advancements took place in the field of medicine when the world was embroiled in
World War II. As Dr. Ralph Major states, An army is a vast laboratory of medical research where
disease and injuries are seen on a far larger scale than in peacetime. Many improvements in the
treatment of infections have come from experiences on the battlefield (Major 52). Devastation in the
war left countless soldiers and civilians with life threatening injuries and diseases. This devastation

Plasma was used to transfer blood as it served to keep satisfactory blood pressure and supply critical
proteins and globulins (antibodies) to the wounded soldiers (www.usaaf.net/wwii). There were many
uses of Plasma on the battlefield and on the whole, it helped keep a proper balance in the body which
makes it one of the best innovations in medical history. The pressing demand for blood on the
battlefields led to Britain organizing the International Transfusion Association in 1940 which collected
blood (people donated blood) and turned it into blood plasma. This program collected, processed and
transported 14,500 units of plasma to the allied armies and it was all done within five months
(home.att.net/wwii.htm). Dr. Drew was an important member of the group and his scientific research
helped revolutionize blood plasma transfusion so that blood plasma could readily be given to wounded
soldiers on the battlefield, which dramatically improved opportunities to save lives. Blood plasma
could also be dried which made it very easy to transport, pack, store and the soldiers could also carry
it around in their pockets (www.history.amedd/army). As mentioned in the United States office of war
newsreel Soldiers in Normandy got the best medical care science could offer and plasma cheated
death in cases of many soldiers (www.concise.britannica.com). Soldiers received the most modern

The MS-13
Joseph Tanfani s article details how President Trump and his top administration officials are dealing
with the MS 13 problem in the United States. The recent and gruesome murder of four individuals in
Long Island, New York by the gang sparked a conversation on what to do with them. President Trump
believes the weak illegal immigration policies of the Obama Administration allowed bad MS 13 gangs
to form in cities across U.S (latimes). The Attorney General Jeff Sessions believes the open border and
years of lax immigration enforcement has allowed MS 13 back in to reform the previous strength they
held. However, in 2008, before former President Obama was elected, the FBI said the MS 13 was

The Controversy Of Immigration Reform
Furthermore, your immigration reform plan has far too many flaws and it is absurd. It is incredibly
cruel to want to end birth right citizenships, require that Americans get jobs over immigrants, and
enhance penalties for overstaying a visa. This country has always been a land of immigration, and
suddenly deciding to deny foreigners rights is immoral and uncalled for. We have economic and
religious freedoms, the freedom of speech, and the right of suffrage. With your reform plan, freedom
will cease to exist. This is exactly the opposite of what our founding fathers would have wanted.
Racism continues to be a rampant problem in America, and your proposals will only further the issues
we have. Latinos, contrary to your beliefs, are hard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Life Along the Silk Road Essay
Life Along The Silk Road
During the outward looking rule of China s Tang dynasty (seventh ninth century C. E. ), sophisticated
people in northeastern Iran developed such a taste for expensive, imported Chinese pottery that they
began to imitate it in great quantity for sale to people who could not afford the real thing. And in
northern China there was a vogue for beautiful pottery figurines of camels laden with caravan goods
or ridden by obviously non Chinese merchants, musicians, or entertainers. Non Chinese camel
figurines found in Mesopotamia carry loads that duplicate the distinctive appearance of the loads on
the Chinese figurines. So it is clear that by the time of the rise of Islam in the seventh century, contact

stuck their snouts in the sand whenever a gust of wind picked up ... (Whitefield 146).
Camels afford us one glimpse of how this system came into being. The two humped or Bactrian camel
was native to central Asia and Iran and was used as a domestic animal from at least the third
millennium BCE. onward. The one humped camel was native to Saudi Arabia. Physically the two
species share resistance to thirst and to hunger, which probably explains the survival of both of these
comparatively defenseless species in regions too arid or barren to support many predators. They differ,
however, in their resistance to heat. The two humped camel has a long, shaggy coat during the winter
and molts in the spring; one humped breeds have much less hair in their torrid native climate of Arabia
(Oliver).
It is reasonable to assume that two humped pack camels were used from the beginning by travelers
along the Silk Road. Once they got to Mesopotamia, however, they must have suffered terribly from
summer heat. Yet summer was the most likely time of arrival because the several month journey from
northern China usually began in the fall, when the camels were in best condition after a summer of
grazing (William/ Spielvogel 251).
Of course, it must have been evident to traders that Mesopotamia had its own camel, the one humped
animal herded in

Roe Vs. Wade Case

Roe vs. Wade
The purpose of this essay is inform you about the Roe vs Wade court case
Introduction
Have you ever wonder why someone else could decide if you could have an abortion and when you
could have one? Why is there an abortion law? This is why I will be talking about a certain court case.
What is abortion? According to merriam webster abortion is the termination of a pregnancy after,
accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus. In order for you
to get a better understanding of the Roe vs Wade court case, I will talk about the background before
the court case happened, I will describe the event that happened to cause the court case, I will analyze
the court case and the results and I will tell the impact that this case has had on United Sate s history.
Body
Let s talk about the events that led up to the court case being filed. The case involved an unmarried
pregnant woman, born Norma Leah Nelson on September 22, 1947, in the bayou country of
Lettesworth, Louisiana who was at the time identified only as Jane Roe in order to maintain her
anonymity but who has since publicly identified herself as Norma McCorvey. McCorvey, a resident of
Texas, wanted to have an abortion, but the existing state law prevented her from doing so. She filed a
lawsuit in federal district court on behalf of herself and all other pregnant women. The suit sought to

Essay about The Digital Millennium Copyright Act
The Digital Millennium Copyright Act
Signed into law by President Clinton on October 28, 1998, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act
(DMCA) was the foundation of an effort by Congress to implement United States treaty obligations
and to move the nation s copyright law into the digital age. ( Executive Summary DMCA Report )
While this seems a valid description of the law, perhaps a more accurate interpretation lies in the
following statement: The DMCA is a piece of legislation rushed through Congress by the
entertainment industry lobbyists to protect its monopoly on commercially developed digital content,
cartels, price fixing, and to maintain its status quo as the single entity that can direct what should be
popular or used by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the DMCA is often used by copyright holders to successfully fight Napster like services
and protect their anticopying technology . (Thibodeau 41) While it may seem logical that copyright
holders want to protect their technology and interests, the truth is that the law impinges on the right of
consumers to copy content. (Thibodeau 41) Obviously there is a conflict of interests at issue and a
consensus is needed to protect both consumers as well as copyright holders. However, violating the
founding principles of the nation, and citizen s rights to freedom of speech is not the answer.
Further, in court rulings related to the DMCA, the courts have imposed liability and enjoined conduct
for what in other contexts would be considered fair use or freedom of the press. In addition, the
DMCA has been used to stifle academic research, and to arrest and indict a Russian programmer who
had come to the United States to present a paper at a conference. These cases and actions raise
questions as to whether Congress has changed the established rules, rather than just modernizing
them, for the digital era. (Ottaviani C1) This conduct demonstrates the great abuse of the DMCA in
relation to the First Amendment; freedom of speech is the most important freedom granted to United
States citizens and it must be protected.
Before the DMCA was enacted, manufacturers of devices that permitted one to copy works generally
considered themselves protected by the fair use

When travelers are round people that have this disease they are easily susceptible to catching it and
then bringing it back to their country and spreading it even more. Children are also at higher risk for
catching this disease than adults because parents chose to not vaccinate their children for their own
personal beliefs. People are in contact with multiple individuals on a daily basis. A person infected
with this virus can easily sneeze into the air and someone else can catch the virus by inhalation of that
same air. Anything from breathing an infected person s air to drinking out of their glass can be a risk
for catching the virus. The virus also can live on a surface for an extended amount of time. If an
individual is close to another individual with the virus, they are at risk of catching the virus. It is so
contagious that if one person has it, 90% of the people around him or her will also become infected if
they are not protected (CDC, 2016).
There are many symptoms caused by this disease. The main symptoms, like most diseases, are a cold
and fever. Soon after, it causes a cough, runny nose, and red eyes. Then a rash of tiny, red spots breaks
out. It starts at the head and spreads to the rest of the body (CDC, 2016). When being diagnosed for

driver to a 14 hour duty day. The biggest issue is that Hardee s fright lanes has its hands full with
requests from the largest customer, and customer pickup and delivery (PUD) operations are set to

hours, and will be more likely to find a way to improve loading and unloading times. Final
Recommendation: The best path to follow would be to implement all three options. Hardee Freight
Transportation needs to make changes to current network delivery routes in order to reduce bobtailing
to shipper s location and increase paddle time. Coordinating with shippers to reduce upload and
download will benefit both Hardee and its customers. Implementation: To implement the previous
options, Hardee will have to make an assessment to current delivery routes, customer locations, and
type of vehicles at hand in order to come up with a better network that will decrease number of times a
driver has to bobtail to the shipper s location and increase paddle time. Hardee s sales personnel will
have to work closely with shippers in order to reduce loading and uploading time, more specifically,
set a certain amount of time allotted for this operation. Also, Hardee should set a detention charge if
the shipper fails to meet the allotted time for loading and unloading trucks. Finally, Hardee could offer
a lower rate as an incentive for shippers to work on expediting loading and unloading operations at

Questions On Learning Objectives And Outcomes
LESSON 6: OVERRIDING METHODS LEARNING OBJECTIVES AND OUTCOMES
Introduction Final variables and methods Final classes Finalizer methods INTRODUCTION In JAVA,
method inheritance is used for defining and using methods repeatedly in subclasses without defining
methods again and again in every subclass. Sometimes, it is required for an object to respond the same
method but have different behavior when the method is called. This is achieved by defining a subclass
method that has the same name, arguments and return type as the method in the superclass. This is
termed as overriding the method in JAVA. So, when the method is called, the subclass method is
invoked and executed rather than superclass method. The rules for method overriding are summarized
below: The argument list should be exactly same as that of the overridden method. The return type
should be the same or should be a subtype of the return type declared in the original overridden
method in the superclass. The access level cannot be more restrictive than the overridden method s
access level. Instance methods can be overridden only if they are inherited by the subclass. A method
declared final cannot be overridden. A method declared static cannot be overridden but can be re
declared. If a method cannot be inherited, then it cannot be overridden. A subclass within the same
package as the instance s superclass can override any superclass method that is not declared private or
final. A

Imagery In Street Of Crocodiles
The book Street of Crocodiles is a series of short stories depicting the life of a small family and the
town they live in. These short stories are in no chronological order, but develop intense imagery
throughout the entire novel. One of the most prominent characters of the book is the Father, who
seems to be crazy. The father goes on a rollercoaster of emotions and ideas into an uncontrollable
descent into insanity throughout the stories, altering the ways in which reality seems to be. In a couple
of these chapters the author, Bruno Schulz, develops the character of the father through imagery that
helps show how his reality is shifted between something human and something a little more
animalistic.
In the chapter Birds, the father is beginning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the beginning of the chapter, the father is no longer with the family because he had apparently died.
The only thing left of the father is a stuffed bird from his previous craze which happened to be the
condor. Its coat of feathers was in many places moth eaten...its eyes had fallen out and sawdust
scattered from the washed out tear stained sockets (73, Schulz). This description of the dead bird
relates to the late father because in many ways the father was battered and somewhat lifeless at times.
However other times he was vibrant and full of ideas which the condor also represented by its
powerful beak and the bald neck that gave its senile head a solemnly hieratic air (73, Schulz). Before
the father s disappearance, the house the family lives in became infested with cockroaches. To try and
kill the little creatures he would leap from one chair to another with a javelin (75, Schulz) in his hands
stabbing at the ground while emitting screams of terror (75, Schulz). In a sense he had grown wild (75,
Schulz) attempting to rid the house of the invasion. His hatred for the cockroaches created a permeant
petrified tragic mask (75, Schulz) on his face and the constant anticipation of a cockroach running by
made the father go perpetually insane. He could no longer resist the intense loathing for the
cockroaches causing him to fall prey to madness and become completely subjected to it (75, Schulz).
This shows how the fathers reality has been completely altered to the point of insanity, he can no
longer go about normal human activities because of his uncontrollable need to kill the cockroaches.
Still he fought to obtain the reality he is losing ever so quickly, but eventually he lost the sense of who
he is and control over his own body. Finally, one night he lay on the floor naked, stained with black
totem spots, the lines of his ribs

What Is The American Red Cross Ethical Responsibility
Assignment 1 The American Red Cross
Chantill Toyer Strayer University
HRM522 Ethical Advocacy for HR Professionals
Dr. Jeanette Horner Smith
October 26, 2014
ABSTRACT
Whether you open a business or a nonprofit organization one has to have a vision and mission for that
organization. An organizational mission is the goals one is aiming towards. The mission of the
American Red Cross (ARC) is to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies by
mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors (American Red Cross, 2014).
However, there are documented and undocumented times when an organization does not abide by the

It plays important roles in society by placing public service above profit. They use a network of
donors, volunteers and employees around the world to relieve suffering by servicing five areas:
disaster relief, blood donations, providing support for American military families, providing health
and safety services and giving support through international humanitarian services. Although they
exist as a not for profit enterprise, business ethics are still essential to the success of any organization.
The American Red Cross has received the highest ethical performance from its employees and
volunteers because they give a responsible to the society (American Red Cross, 2011).
In September of 2011 terrorists attacked the World Trade Center and The Pentagon. Almost 3,000
people die and more than 6,000 were injured and in need of help. The American Red Cross raised
more than 500 million dollars in response to the 9/11 attacks. There was a problem because they only
distributed 154 million dollars in aid. The question than became where the money went. The American
Red Cross claimed the money that was donated went into a big pool of money that was distributed by
the company s corporate governance (The Socialist Worker, 2005). In addition, The American Red
Cross urged people to donate blood even though the blood was not needed at that time and a good
amount of it was destroyed. In the end, The American criticized by the

Prosperity After the Civil War
Kellie Bowden
Mr. Strough
APUSH
1 April 2013 During the period of the Civil War, the typical American business was a small, family
owned company and it usually produced goods for a smaller, regional market. However, as the Civil
War ended, big businesses began to dominate the corporate world. Many businesses, such as the
Standard Oil Co. and Carnegie Steel, became monopolies and owned all parts of one particular
industry. These huge firms were able to mass produce their products and sell them not only all over
the country, but also internationally. Due to the huge transformation in the business world, the
economy and politics were affected as well as the American people and unfortunately, these affects
turned out to be more negative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By smaller businesses not being able to compete, this just gave the already huge companies even more
power. During these years after the Civil War, many Americans struggled. Although the industrial
world boomed, so many people were looking for jobs that many did not have any jobs. For the ones
that happened to have jobs, the working conditions were so atrocious that sometimes it might not have
even been worth it to have a job. As demonstrated in the article titled What Does Labor Want? It
explains the concern of many workers. The passage voices the want of a reform from the workers.
They say that human beings should be treated just as well as every other person in the world. These
workers worked well over 14 hours a day doing very strenuous labor. They pleaded for shorter work
days and better treatment of workers. The people also were fearful of the huge up and coming
businesses. They did not like the power the companies had over the government and economy. The
people knew these businesses had the power to change the prices of all goods to whatever they
wanted. Although there were many corrupt things about the working world, one good thing of it all
was that women were now able to work. Instead of having to sit at home and be a typical housewife
day after day, they were now able to work in some factories and stores. The picture from Document J

The ballista, or shield piercer, was first developed by the Greeks using the same principles as a bow

lacked the power to do so. Early versions of the ballista include the gastrophetes, which is nothing
more than an enlarged bow that can be braced against the users body.

Using this relationship assumes that the force constant is constant, or that moving the arms back 2
meters gives twice the force that moving them back 1 meter would do, which is most likely not
correct, but close enough for a general assumption of the force to be made. When the force is applied,
the projectile is accelerated to the end of the ballista, at which point it released with a velocity v and
an angle q from the horizontal. The velocity can be found using the kinematic equation v2=2ax, where
a is the acceleration and x is the length of the ballista that the projectile is accelerated upon. Since
F=ma and F in this case is kd, the equation can be simplified into v2=2 kdx/m. After it is released, the
projectile obeys the laws of projectile motion, disregarding air resistance. Therefore, the range of the
ballista can be given by the equation
R=v2sin2q/g,
where g is the accleration due to gravity.
Mangonel History
The Romans, finding the ballista difficult to construct, simplified the design and created the onager. It
had one arm instead of two, and is what is most commonly identified as a catapult today.

During the Dark Ages, the French were able to re invent the onager, and they called it the

Geospiza Filiginosa Hypothesis
On his visit to Galapagos Island, Charles Darwin discovered several species of birds. Upon his arrival
in England, he discovered that the birds were actually the same species. Although they possessed
certain similar characteristics the birds each had unique morphological qualities that made them differ
from one another. This inspired his famous evolution theory, which is now a biological fact due to the
enormous evidence supporting the theory.
Famous scientists, like Rosemary Grant and her husband, made so many important discoveries on
their work on the finches in Galapagos, which explained how selection can be an agent of

Global Interdependence And The Existence Of Large...
Global interdependence and the existence of large multinational enterprises create a need for global
accounting. Multinational corporations are companies that carry out business in more than one country
other than their home. Companies go global for many reasons: to increase sales, improve profits and
innovation. Decentralization is essential for the creation of large firms, because CEOs are otherwise
constrained in the number of decisions they can make directly it is therefore critical for enabling
productive firms to grow large and to take market share from unproductive ones. Because trust is
strongly linked with more decentralization, it in turn affects productivity. The absence of trust, in
developing countries like Brazil, China, and India, explains why productive firms do not grow large
and drive out unproductive firms from the market place. Decentralization presents problems within
itself. With this, Management accounting is a system of measuring and providing operational and
financial information that drives management s actions in areas of actions and behavior. Unlike
financial, managements accounting generates reports for personnel inside the organization, not
stakeholders. It s purpose is to an organization reach its strategic objectives. Internationally the
primary strategic goals of managerial accounting are global efficiency, multinational flexibility and
worldwide learning. This initiates emphasis on planning and control.

it was the first sponsorship for an African American, and Owens would go on to win 4 gold medals,

The Performance Report Of The United States Air Force
How much effort would the average employee put in at work if they quality and quantity of work
produced, did not have any effect on their annual performance report? Most workers would do the
minimum, because there are no incentives to exceed the standard. How can the senior leaders
effectively differentiate between employees, to ensure that the correct individuals are being promoted
when all the employees receive the highest ratings on their annual performance reports? This is one of
the problems with the current performance reports in the United States Air Force today. This paper
will begin with a brief background on the current performance report issues, the new performance
report, and the effect on the individual perceptions. The paper will continue with how the group is
using communication to influence, and finally, how a change in culture is needed for the new system
to work.
The United States Air Force has been using the same basic process for performance reports and

ensure they are promoting the best performers (Harper, 2014). Since military leaders can give orders
that could mean an individuals death and is a hierarchy, it is very important that a leader be the most

The Social Security System runs on the laborer contribution to the trust fund. For the example, when
individuals are working, he or she required to contribute into the Social Security Fund: so later in their

helping retirees to meet their monthly expenses. The social security policy is a successful
intergenerational program that has been serving American aging people for many years. Although,
since 2010, the social security trust fund has been paying out more than what they receive through
employees. Which is why many experts predict that system will work till 2037. Historically, Social
Security trust fund has taken in more money in taxes than it has paid out in benefits. However, from
last few decades the worker to beneficiary ratio has been dropping. In 1945 there were 42 workers for
each beneficiary, in 1980 it had fallen to 3.2 worker to one beneficiary, expert predicts by 2030 there
will be only 2 workers will support each beneficiary. The reason for this change is that the beneficiary
are living longer, so they are receiving Social Security Benefits for longer periods of time. While on
the other hand, population growth is lower, that means fewer babies per family, and less workers force

The Narrator s Use Of Suspense In The Film Jaws
All is lost shows the persistence of the human spirit, in the ability to continue after adversity. The
opening shot places the protagonist in a life boat, at sea, startled from his reclined position as he line
snags. As he reels in the line the audience feels growing suspense as the protagonist has been stuck at
sea for days and if he has been able to successfully fish for food, we can feel optimistic for his future
at sea. The audience is rudely awakened when the suspense turns into horror, not the expected delight,
as a shark emerges from the water and takes his catch. Through this use of suspense and the building
of tension, the audience feels the protagonist s disappointment along with him. When the protagonist
tries to search for the sharks who stole his catch he cannot see them, no matter how hard he tries. This
can be seen as an allegory to the fact he cannot predict the future events to happen. He is at the whim
of the sea and to nature in general. This is further highlighted by a low angle shot from beneath the life
raft which shows the sharks circling the protagonist. The use of a low angle shot in film gives power
to the figure being shot. In this instance the sharks are in the position of power, as they are the
embodiment of nature in this scene. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of Local Search Algorithm For STP
From the tree SP we presented in the algorithm that we have obtained via Local Search Algorithm for
STP, we have generated the matrix of cost. This is done by assigning a cost to all the edges of tree SP
and by assigning a cost on n no. of nodes to all the other edges in graph. This assignment of cost helps
in recognizing the cost of the longest possible path between a pair of nodes in any spanning tree is n−1
(i.e. it passes n−1 edges) while the cost of the shortest path between any pair of nodes without using of
SPT edges is at least n (i.e. passes one edge). Consequently, the 802.1d protocol will produce the

  • 2. How Is Loss Used In Mid Term Break How is Loss Experienced in the poems Mid Term Break and November? In both the poems November, by Simon Armitage and Mid Term Break, by Seamus Heaney, the persona is compelled into that position. They both describe loss as a traumatic experience, which the persona tries to detach themselves from in order to accept the reality. In November, the persona is burdened with guilt and self blame. Realising that the situation is inevitable illuminates his fears of ageing and death. Mid Term Break is an autobiographical poem where the persona (Seamus Heany) maintains a very formal and distant tone in order to push aside his overwhelming grief. Heaney places the powerful monostich at the end, which intensifies the sombre mood into a powerful shock to the audience. Comparing a four foot box with a foot for every year doesn t only tell the audience how brief his brother s life was, but also highlights Heaney s realisation of this harsh, inescapable horror. By rhyming the phrase bumper knocked him clear with his age on the monostich links the fragility of the child to the powerful effect on the audience and family. This reminds the persona and the audience that the impact isn t only on the child, but also on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Better Than Driving A Car By Landslides It s a question people can t help but think as the plane begins to speed down the runway, the engines roar, and you start to go up thousands of feet into the air toward a destination: Are airplanes safer than cars? • 6. Flag Desecration Essays Throughout history, Americans have fought hard to gain independence and the freedoms that come with it. However, some choose to test the limitations of those freedoms. For some time, Americans have shown their disgust of the American government by burning flags, and even cutting them up to use as clothing. Although mocking the American government and the flag is disrespectful, revoking the right to do so would be a violation of freedom of expression, which is guaranteed by the First Amendment. Those who support the no flag burning amendment argue that the United States flag is a special case. Because it would undermine the constitution and set a dangerous precedent that will make it easier for others enact restrictive amendments to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Our constitution must not be tampered with just because flag desecration hurts others feelings. Many feel that the American flag amendment is a special case. Supreme Court Chief William Rehnquist claimed it was acceptable to have a narrow, special amendment to protect a special flag from desecration. ( Consequences 2). Even Thomas Jefferson and James Madison denounced flag burning as a crime (Brady H 2). Others feel that flag desecration disrespects those who lost their lives for our country, stating the flag symbolizes the blood that runs through our country. George Whalen, a soldier, said the stars and stripes of our nations flag is the symbol of our nation s values... It represents loyalty patriotism and love of our country. ( citizens 3). Those against flag desecration must remember that the men and women who fought and died for our country were fighting for justice, freedom, and independence, all of which give one the right to desecrate the flag. Yes, the flag represents these freedoms, but the constitution ensures them. An amendment revoking this right would lead to limited individual freedoms and a lack personal responsibility. In addition to violating one s rights of freedom of expression, the no flag burning amendment gives government the power to decide what American actions are and are ... • 7. An American Corporation Outsourcing At The Pennsylvania... Mark Anner, Associate Professor of Labor and Employment Relations at the Pennsylvania State University, has written perhaps the most persuasive piece of literature on the reasons for the lack of progress in workers rights for employees of independent contractors hired in the process of an American corporation outsourcing to another nation. Before the Rana Plaza Factory Fire in 2012 and currently still, most of the CSR models focused on voluntary codes of conduct which allowed corporations to adopt for publicity purposes, yet not fulfill the responsibilities of those agreements, without facing any consequences. These programs of CSR are extremely unsuccessful, as most factories and independent contractors cut corners to pass inspections ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, after the Rana Plaza Factory Fire, major retailers such as H M, Zara, Tommy Hilfiger, and Calvin Klein entered into an agreement with UNI and IndustriALL, two global union federations in order to ensure safety for their workers abroad. The signing of this Accord places retailers and branded corporations at the top of the entities with obligations to its workers below. This Accord imposes on these buyers substantive obligations most notably, financial obligations to help suppliers pay for safety upgrades, such as the installation of fire exits, or, in the case of structurally unsound buildings, major repairs while guaranteeing the payment of workers salaries for time lost at work. Anner and his peers find this Accord to be the first of many promising and successful steps towards ending these tragedies. However, I found that contrary to what the media and these retailers may publicize, this accord applies to Bangladesh only. Many of these corporations have factories within India, China, and Pakistan as well that are not affected by this agreement. Although this may be one attempt at solving the problems of global outsourcing, it does not reach far enough. After voicing his thoughts and hopes on the future accomplishments of the Accord, Anner then introduces another reason for why many current CSR models have not been as successful as originally projected. He states that buyers need to play a bigger role in pushing for corporate responsibility and he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Ethnic Conflict And Violence In The Rakhine State Of Burma The origins of ethnic conflict and violence are crucial factors in understanding what motivates groups to commit such atrocious crimes. In the Rakhine State of Burma a bloody battle has emerged, placing the Rohingya population of the country in the crosshairs of violent military crackdown and discrimination by the majority Buddhist population. Due to a long complex relationship between the different groups of Burma, predominantly the muslims and buddhist, a culture of hatred has cast out those in the Rakhine State, Muslim population, claiming them to be foreign aliens with no claims to rights or freedom within the country. Ervin Straub argues that these long standing cultural differences and living conditions play an integral role in understanding the rationale behind ethnic violence. The psychological process that goes behind committing these acts is diversely motivated and can create a strong feeling of hatred and resentment. The persecution of the Rohingya in Burma as a result of deep rooted cultural differences, an us versus them mentality, and an obedience to authority supports Ervin Staub s argument that these differences can create mental process and rationale for committing acts of heinous violence. The two humped or Bactrian camel was native to central Asia and Iran and was used as a domestic animal from at least the third millennium BCE. onward. The one humped camel was native to Saudi Arabia. Physically the two species share resistance to thirst and to hunger, which probably explains the survival of both of these comparatively defenseless species in regions too arid or barren to support many predators. They differ, however, in their resistance to heat. The two humped camel has a long, shaggy coat during the winter and molts in the spring; one humped breeds have much less hair in their torrid native climate of Arabia (Oliver). It is reasonable to assume that two humped pack camels were used from the beginning by travelers along the Silk Road. Once they got to Mesopotamia, however, they must have suffered terribly from summer heat. Yet summer was the most likely time of arrival because the several month journey from northern China usually began in the fall, when the camels were in best condition after a summer of grazing (William/ Spielvogel 251). ( Executive Summary DMCA Report ) While this seems a valid description of the law, perhaps a more accurate interpretation lies in the following statement: The DMCA is a piece of legislation rushed through Congress by the entertainment industry lobbyists to protect its monopoly on commercially developed digital content, cartels, price fixing, and to maintain its status quo as the single entity that can direct what should be popular or used by ... (Thibodeau 41) Obviously there is a conflict of interests at issue and a consensus is needed to protect both consumers as well as copyright holders. However, violating the founding principles of the nation, and citizen s rights to freedom of speech is not the answer. Further, in court rulings related to the DMCA, the courts have imposed liability and enjoined conduct for what in other contexts would be considered fair use or freedom of the press. In addition, the DMCA has been used to stifle academic research, and to arrest and indict a Russian programmer who had come to the United States to present a paper at a conference. These cases and actions raise questions as to whether Congress has changed the established rules, rather than just modernizing them, for the digital era. (Ottaviani C1) This conduct demonstrates the great abuse of the DMCA in relation to the First Amendment; freedom of speech is the most important freedom granted to United States citizens and it must be protected. Questions On Learning Objectives And Outcomes LESSON 6: OVERRIDING METHODS LEARNING OBJECTIVES AND OUTCOMES Introduction Final variables and methods Final classes Finalizer methods INTRODUCTION In JAVA, method inheritance is used for defining and using methods repeatedly in subclasses without defining methods again and again in every subclass. Sometimes, it is required for an object to respond the same method but have different behavior when the method is called. This is achieved by defining a subclass method that has the same name, arguments and return type as the method in the superclass. This is termed as overriding the method in JAVA. So, when the method is called, the subclass method is invoked and executed rather than superclass method. The rules for method overriding are summarized below: The argument list should be exactly same as that of the overridden method. The return type should be the same or should be a subtype of the return type declared in the original overridden method in the superclass. The access level cannot be more restrictive than the overridden method s access level. Instance methods can be overridden only if they are inherited by the subclass. A method declared final cannot be overridden. A method declared static cannot be overridden but can be re declared. If a method cannot be inherited, then it cannot be overridden. A subclass within the same package as the instance s superclass can override any superclass method that is not declared private or final. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However other times he was vibrant and full of ideas which the condor also represented by its powerful beak and the bald neck that gave its senile head a solemnly hieratic air (73, Schulz). Before the father s disappearance, the house the family lives in became infested with cockroaches. His hatred for the cockroaches created a permeant petrified tragic mask (75, Schulz) on his face and the constant anticipation of a cockroach running by made the father go perpetually insane. They pleaded for shorter work days and better treatment of workers. The people also were fearful of the huge up and coming businesses. They did not like the power the companies had over the government and economy. The people knew these businesses had the power to change the prices of all goods to whatever they wanted. Although there were many corrupt things about the working world, one good thing of it all was that women were now able to work. Instead of having to sit at home and be a typical housewife day after day, they were now able to work in some factories and stores. The picture from Document J shows ... • 27. Physics of Catapults Essay The ballista, or shield piercer, was first developed by the Greeks using the same principles as a bow and arrow. Its primary use was to, as the name suggests, pierce enemy shields, since normal bows lacked the power to do so. Early versions of the ballista include the gastrophetes, which is nothing more than an enlarged bow that can be braced against the users body. http://members.lycos.nl/onager/GastrophetesPic.jpg As time went on ballistas were improved to become larger and more powerful, eventually becoming mounted mechanisms that could be operated by two or more people. Using this relationship assumes that the force constant is constant, or that moving the arms back 2 meters gives twice the force that moving them back 1 meter would do, which is most likely not correct, but close enough for a general assumption of the force to be made. When the force is applied, the projectile is accelerated to the end of the ballista, at which point it released with a velocity v and an angle q from the horizontal. The velocity can be found using the kinematic equation v2=2ax, where a is the acceleration and x is the length of the ballista that the projectile is accelerated upon. Since F=ma and F in this case is kd, the equation can be simplified into v2=2 kdx/m. After it is released, the projectile obeys the laws of projectile motion, disregarding air resistance. Therefore, the range of the ballista can be given by the equation R=v2sin2q/g, where g is the accleration due to gravity. Mangonel History The Romans, finding the ballista difficult to construct, simplified the design and created the onager. It had one arm instead of two, and is what is most commonly identified as a catapult today. http://members.lycos.nl/onager/OnagerPic.jpg During the Dark Ages, the French were able to re invent the onager, and they called it the mangonneau, and it became known in England as the mangonel. Upon his arrival in England, he discovered that the birds were actually the same species. Although they possessed certain similar characteristics the birds each had unique morphological qualities that made them differ from one another. This inspired his famous evolution theory, which is now a biological fact due to the enormous evidence supporting the theory. Famous scientists, like Rosemary Grant and her husband, made so many important discoveries on their work on the finches in Galapagos, which explained how selection can be an agent of evolutionary changes (Grant Grant 2006). • 30. Global Interdependence And The Existence Of Large... Global interdependence and the existence of large multinational enterprises create a need for global accounting. Multinational corporations are companies that carry out business in more than one country other than their home. Companies go global for many reasons: to increase sales, improve profits and innovation. Decentralization is essential for the creation of large firms, because CEOs are otherwise constrained in the number of decisions they can make directly it is therefore critical for enabling productive firms to grow large and to take market share from unproductive ones. Because trust is strongly linked with more decentralization, it in turn affects productivity. The absence of trust, in developing countries like Brazil, China, and India, explains why productive firms do not grow large and drive out unproductive firms from the market place. Decentralization presents problems within itself. With this, Management accounting is a system of measuring and providing operational and financial information that drives management s actions in areas of actions and behavior. Unlike financial, managements accounting generates reports for personnel inside the organization, not stakeholders. It s purpose is to an organization reach its strategic objectives. Internationally the primary strategic goals of managerial accounting are global efficiency, multinational flexibility and worldwide learning. This initiates emphasis on planning and control. Most workers would do the minimum, because there are no incentives to exceed the standard. How can the senior leaders effectively differentiate between employees, to ensure that the correct individuals are being promoted when all the employees receive the highest ratings on their annual performance reports? This is one of the problems with the current performance reports in the United States Air Force today. This paper will begin with a brief background on the current performance report issues, the new performance report, and the effect on the individual perceptions. It has been helping retirees to meet their monthly expenses. The social security policy is a successful intergenerational program that has been serving American aging people for many years. Although, since 2010, the social security trust fund has been paying out more than what they receive through employees. Which is why many experts predict that system will work till 2037. Historically, Social Security trust fund has taken in more money in taxes than it has paid out in benefits. However, from last few decades the worker to beneficiary ratio has been dropping. In 1945 there were 42 workers for each beneficiary, in 1980 it had fallen to 3.2 worker to one beneficiary, expert predicts by 2030 there will be only 2 workers will support each beneficiary. The reason for this change is that the beneficiary are living longer, so they are receiving Social Security Benefits for longer periods of time. The opening shot places the protagonist in a life boat, at sea, startled from his reclined position as he line snags. As he reels in the line the audience feels growing suspense as the protagonist has been stuck at sea for days and if he has been able to successfully fish for food, we can feel optimistic for his future at sea. The audience is rudely awakened when the suspense turns into horror, not the expected delight, as a shark emerges from the water and takes his catch. Through this use of suspense and the building of tension, the audience feels the protagonist s disappointment along with him. When the protagonist tries to search for the sharks who stole his catch he cannot see them, no matter how hard he tries. This can be seen as an allegory to the fact he cannot predict the future events to happen. He is at the whim of the sea and to nature in general. This is further highlighted by a low angle shot from beneath the life raft which shows the sharks circling the protagonist. The use of a low angle shot in film gives power to the figure being shot. This is done by assigning a cost to all the edges of tree SP and by assigning a cost on n no. of nodes to all the other edges in graph. This assignment of cost helps in recognizing the cost of the longest possible path between a pair of nodes in any spanning tree is n−1 (i.e. it passes n−1 edges) while the cost of the shortest path between any pair of nodes without using of SPT edges is at least n (i.e. passes one edge). The bi connected graph has a significance that if any of the edge becomes down then also the network will be connected via another edge. This gives us assurance of always up time for a network. This means in case of link failure alternate link will always be present to ensure the network connectivity.
