The Hoover Dam and Its Construction Essay
Outside of China, the United States is the most dammed country on the planet. Counting only dams
taller than fifty feet high, the U.S. has some 5,000 dams that range from giant hydroelectric dams such
as the Grand Coulee in Washington State to flood control dams in the southeast and dams that provide
water for irrigation in California. Overall the United States has as many as 2.5 million dams of one
sort or another. The design and construction of many of these dams took place between 1930 and
1975. This 45 years period is known as the golden age of dam building, starting with the construction
of the Hoover Dam beginning in 1931. By the 1970s the golden age of dam construction began to
come to an end with increased concerns ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the dam was located in such a remote location roads and railways had to be built to bring the
workers and materials to the site. Boulder City, a camp was also built to house the thousands of
workers. Before the construction of Hoover Dam even began Six Companies, Inc. had received over
2,400 job applications and more than 12,000 letters of inquiry from job seekers. Many men arrived
with all of their possessions and their families ready to begin a new life in the desert. Many of these
people were forced to wait and live in tent communities and shantytowns around Las Vegas. This
created very poor living conditions where more than 25 workers and family members died of heat
prostration between June and July of 1931. Fortunately the U.S. government anticipated this problem
and had already created plans to build a modern city, known as Boulder City, to house the workers and
their families near the site of Hoover Dam. To the surprise of both the government and Six
Companies, Inc. Boulder City turned into a community. Churches, a school, a newspaper, and a library
were all built in Boulder City making it a model community [iii].
Before construction of the actual dam could take place the Colorado River first had to be diverted, this
was done by tunneling four huge diversion tunnels through the bedrock of Black Canyon. These
tunnels were 56 feet in diameter, 4,000 feet long, and

Leaving The Orbit
Leaving the Orbit but Entering Knowledge When I was a child, I used to think that the idea of space
travel was out of this world, some parts of myself still do. I ve always believed that astronauts had a
job more fascinating than anyone else, to have the luxury of being a part of one of the most
spectacular feats in the world. It was a luxury not just given to them, but obtained through years of
exhausting, strenuous work. I m very proud, to this day, to be a citizen of the country that put the first
footprint on the moon. Margaret Lazarus Dean, author of Leaving Orbit, and a NASA junkie, does an
excellent job at opening the eyes of her readers to show the long hours, days, and years put into
American space flight. After reading the book, the stories and experiences shared have helped me to
more suitably understand the substantial accomplishment American spaceflight has made. ... Show

in the Article Man on the moon: moment of greatness that defined the American century . On July 20,
1969, America became the first country to ever step foot on the moon. Neil Armstrong, American

Impact Of The Fourth Industrial Revolution
The Impacts and Applications of the Fourth Industrial Revolution
What is the Fourth Industrial Revolution and how it is important?
The developments and transformations of technological revolutions, from the First Industrial
Revolution to the Fourth Industrial Revolution, have plays important roles and significantly influences
our working environments, social commutations, and economic development (Schwab, 2016).
Following by the breakthrough of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the expanding of digital platform
and innovation of technology significantly promote the global communication, efficiency on three
aspects, included business, people, and government. In order to successfully corporate and innovate
into Fourth Industrial Revolution, the business study and the transforming from STEM to STEAM are
valuable and needed to be prepared for the future, not only with hard skills, but also needs soft skills.
What are the impacts and challenges faced by the Fourth Industrial Revolution?
Schwab (2016) said that there are three aspects, included business, people, and government that
closely tied together and promote the development of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. These aspects
not only require us to develop innovated and collaborative mindsets of skills, but also needs to have
consciousness on the global world and changing environment. As Schwab (2016) mentioned that the
most important transformation is people and their values, which is also accordance with the challenges

Essay about The Status of Women and the Bhaki Movement in...
The Status of Women and The Bhakti Movement in India Originating in ancient Tamil Nadu, the
Bhakti movement in India spread to the north during the late medieval ages when north India was
under Islamic rule. The movement was spontaneous and counter to the predominant caste ideology
which was dividing Hinduism. The adherents of the movement had their own rendering of devotional
expression. While in the south, devotion was centered on both Shiva and Vishnu (in all his forms), the
northern devotional movement was centered on Rama and Krishna, both of whom are believed to be
incarnations of Vishnu. Though initially the Bhakti movement was considered unorthodox due to its
defiance of caste distinctions and disregard of Brahmanic rituals, it ... Show more content on

Well aware of this, the saints of the movement narrated their philosophy in local dialects and lyrical
forms. They also expressed their ideologies and teachings through hymns and poems. In contrast,
while the male bhakti saints clamoured for change and protested against the injustices in society, the
woman was still expected to be at the back of the home. The male bhaktas did not have any intention
of including women in these changing times. One major exception to this is Nanak, who spoke for the
empowerment of women. He wrote : It is by women that we are conceived and it is from her that we
are betrothed and married It is a woman we befriend and it is she keeps a race going When one woman
dies another is sought for and it is with her that we get established in society Why call her evil from
whom are born kings and great men. (Nanak)
The Nirgun sant especially, looked down on women. Even sants like Surdas, Dadu dayal and Tulsidas
felt that women were to be kept subdued and in control. However, saints like Mirabai, Bahinabai,
Dayabai, Janabai, Sahjo Bai, Akka Mahadevi and Kanhopatra, to name a few, through their bold
poetry and self expression, embraced this movement and broke through the conventional restrictions
of medieval Indian society. Women saints wrote of the obstacles of home, constraints of married life
and meaningless household

The Life of Galileo Galilei
Galileo Galilei is considered one of the greatest scientists of all time. He was an Italian
mathematician, astronomer, and philosopher who very strongly supported Copernicanism, which is the
idea that the earth orbits the sun. It was hard to advocate Copernicanism because it was a very
controversial idea during that time. Galileo was a leader in the Scientific Revolution. He made
discoveries in the sciences of motion, astronomy, and strength of materials. In motion, his famous
scientific discoveries were circular inertia, law of falling bodies and parabolic path of projectiles. In
mathematics, he changed philosophy from a verbal explanation to a mathematical one in which
experimentation was a method for discovering facts of nature. In astronomy, he revolutionized
telescope and made way for the recognition of the Copernican heliocentric system. Galileo changed
the world forever. Galileo s childhood was full of schooling and studying. Galileo was born in Pisa,
Italy, on February 15, 1564. Galileo, the oldest child in the family, was born to Guilia Ammannati, and
Vincenzo Galilei, who was a great musician. When Galileo was eight, he moved to Florence. He went
to the monastery school at Vallombrosa in his teens. Galileo later studied at University of Pisa, where
he was supposed to study being a doctor, but instead he was captivated with math and decided to make
math and philosophy his job, against his father s will. Even though he was very young, Galileo

Roman Catholic Faith Affected My Life
There are currently more than one billion Roman Catholic citizens on the planet right now. I consider
myself immensely fortunate to be a part of such an extensive community of people that are together
because of God. Being Catholic has opened doors for me to see the world differently than if I wasn t
Catholic. My entire life would be mismatched if I wasn t Catholic. My faith affects many aspects of
my life such as my actions and decisions. The school that I go to, the friends that I have made, and
what I do on Sunday are all affected by the fact that I practice the Roman Catholic faith. Being
Catholic has had a positive influence on how I live my life and how I survey the world. Being
Catholic has made just about every part of my life different. The schools that I have gone to since first
grade have been Catholic schools. The friends that I have made are because I am Catholic, and I also
go to church almost every Sunday. The impact that my faith has had on my life is not comprehensible.
Activities like praying to God and asking him for help has just become second nature because of how
often I do it. In a single school day I participate in at least four different prayers. Some people look at
a cross and just think of it as a shape, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I didn t really have a choice to be baptized into the Catholic faith. When I was young I never realized
how meaningful my faith will become in my growth. When I was a kid I knew Jesus died for us on the

crucifixion. I now know that I must be a disciple of Christ so that he did not sacrifice himself for no
reason. This is really imperative to how I live my life because the ultimate goal is to be in unity with
God in heaven. If I am not going to mass, serving others in my community, or preaching the gospel,
then how am I going to get accepted into

Analysis Of Borders By Thomas King
Borders , by Thomas King, takes place at the Canadian American border. The main character is a
mother who is Blackfoot. The mother refuses to identify herself as either Canadian or American;
instead, the mother insists that she is Blackfoot, and because of this she and her twelve year old son
have to stay in amidst the border offices of Canada and the United States. The title of this short story,
Borders indicates two borders; one is the physical border amid Canada and the United States and the
other is a metaphorical border between someone s identity and citizenship. In Thomas King s Borders
The story shows proudness of citizenship and it portrays where you are from is a huge part of who you
are. The three arguments that I will argue to prove this thesis is that the mother is proud that she is a
Blackfoot, It is rare and improbable for a young women to leave the reserve, and that the mother
dislikes the Americans because she was proud of her own people.
The mother, throughout the short story, is proud to be a Blackfoot. The first piece of evidence that
supports this is that the mother blatantly refuses to identify as Canadian or American. When the
mother said, Citizenship? Blackfoot . The mother knows she has to identify as either an American or
Canadian but she refuses to because of how proud she is of her people. Next, after the border officers
were being nice and pleasant to her and explaining that her identifying as either a Canadian or an
American was a

Analysis Of Ivan O MahoneyGo Back To Where You Came From
In fostering effectual discovery, experiences must offer renewed understandings of the world, of which
individuals are willingly receptive to. This willingness to challenge presumptions, often conditioned
by contextual rigidity, heightens emotional and intellectual awareness, thus compelling meaningful
connection with foreign people and places. Such is explored in Ivan O Mahoney s episodic
docudrama, Go Back to Where You Came From (2008), which urges participants to revoke shielded
attitudes in reassessing human understanding. Alike, the innate curiosity of individuals conjures
unexpected, transformative discovery, communicated distinctively in Sally Morgan s autobiography
My Place (1987). As responders, our reception to the composer s manipulation catalyses our own
discovery, thereby inviting us to challenge personal perspectives in nourishing intensely meaningful
discovery.
The extent to which discovery is embraced relies on the willingness of individuals to be ideologically
receptive to their experiences. The influence of discovery may not be determined by the level of
planning involved, but one s willingness widen their perspective of the world, accepting places and
people foreign to them. Whilst the mise en scene of the beach in the opening interviews establish
Adam s sheltered and apprehensive response to the refugee issue, his commitment and continual
engagement on the Go Back journey accentuates the transformation he experiences. Through the
perceptive arrangement of indirect interviewing, close up and mid shots, Adam s reality check at
Villawood Detention Centre proved both intellectually and emotionally transformative, symbolically
summated in O Mahoney s concluding image of this participant s reflection with his passport, tenderly
appreciating the safety of his home. The director purposefully juxtaposes the limited impact of Raquel
s discovery due to her detachment. The salient focus on her despondent facial and body expressions at
the Chin school contrasts Gleny and Raye s reflection on their empowering teaching experience, hence
highlighting the vitality of personal interaction in facilitating intensely meaningful discovery. Sally
Morgan similarly contrasts individual receptiveness

Clemson Tiger-Personal Narrative

That could be me next year; experiencing those moments. Touring the campus in February, I got that
moment. It is the one that every high school senior has no words to describe when they have the

Pros And Cons Of Accurizing A 1911
This weeks lesson caught me switching over to the 1911. I found all the information to be very
intresting. There seems to be a lot of areas that need attention when accurizing a 1911 pistol. Most of
the work is done by hand with files, stones, sandpaper, and little tools. First starting with the bushing
barrel entry clearance using a adjustable reamer to open the inside bushing diameter. Then using a half
round Indain stone to hone the area on the X and Y points in the diagram. I see this will take a lot of
time and patience of fitting and honing untile you get a proper fit. This prosces seems to me almost the
same with the fitting of the barrel hood to the slide using the stone. Both area looks like you will be

Elizabethan Rapier
I m going to compare the different characteristics and usage of rapier and dagger in The Three
Musketeers and The Man in the Iron Mask. Rapier and dagger play was very prevalent on the
continent and in England during the Elizabethan period. The standard configuration for a duel was
rapier and dagger. It was common for every gentlemen to carry a dagger and some carried a rapier at
that time (Wilson). According to the material, rapier is held in dominant hand for attacking while
dagger is used in the other hand for defending. With the combination of the two weapons, the
combating effect will attain a better level. Similarly, both of the stories took place in France of the
17th century. And the physical violence plays an important role in promoting ... Show more content on

The Evolution of Second- and Foreign- Language Teaching
The Evolution of Second and Foreign Language Teaching (The 19th and 20th Century and The New
Era of Second Language Teaching) In his treatment of the historical developments in language
pedagogy, Stern (1992) isolates three ways in which language pedagogy has aimed to renew and
improve itself:1. Innovation through change in teaching methods; 2. Innovation through language
related sciences and research; 3. Technological innovation. During the nineteenth century, the
Grammar Translation Method with its emphasis on the transmission of structural rules and analysis of
form served as the principal method of teaching modern and classical languages in schools. The goal

Proposed Health Care Plans Of Two 2016 Presidential...
It is highly visible that the United States lacks an affordable, universal health care plan. Compared to
other countries America is lagging behind. The improvement of access to care has become of high
importance to the betterment of society and the country s health care outcome. This paper will
describe the three major problems that exist in the United States health care. In addition, it will
explore the proposed health care plans of two 2016 presidential candidates and the position they take
in regards the big issues.
The uninsured and acquiring access to health care is one of the problems that the United States faces
in regards to health care. An obstacle that individuals face is that gaining access to health care is
linked to having a job. However, the problem does not stop there. The problem continues in the form
that not every job gives people access to health care. Many employers will stop from offering
individuals full time status because then they would have to offer some type of insurance plan. Thus,
employers often hire people as part time so as to not have to face giving people benefits they may
deem too costly. Inherently, people are finding themselves without insurance due to the fact that
acquiring health care is contingent on having a job. What does this mean for the jobless? Based on the
linkage between health care access and being employed, it is rather visible that the unemployed would
be faced with being uninsured and difficulty acquiring access.

Identity And Identity In Coriolanus
He was a kind of nothing, titleless, /Till he had forged himself a name o the fire /Of burning Rome
(_______). In Shakepearse s play, Coriolanus, having a name is strongly correlated to having an
identity, thus if an individual does not have a name he or she is nothing. Coriolanus is a prominent
Roman war hero who had a strongly developed sense of self in the beginning of the play. However, as
the play progresses he falters and decides to become dangerously independent, not even wanting to
accept the name given to him by his mother. He continually changes his name and identity throughout
the play. Coriolanus rejects Rome s societal norms and establishes his own virtues that he lives by.
This method of thinking ultimately led to his banishment from Rome, which also pushed him into
forging for himself a new name. I can relate to Coriolanus struggle to find a name for himself. I feel
that the name given to me by my mother holds no identity in and of itself. Rather, it is the choices that
I make in my own life that will determine what that name will come to represent. Coriolanus first
name, given to him at birth, was Caius Marcius. Initially, Caius Martius was a strong military general
who was confident in his role in society. As a military general, he made fighting against the Volsces
his number one priority. Due to his overwhelming dedication to his country, Caius Martius was gifted

My Experience With Customer Service Representatives
Have you ever had an experience with customer service representatives? Some have stood out for
being unpleasant to me because of my inability to communicate with Native Americans fluently.
Sadly, I ve had so many of them that it will take a lot for any of them to stand out. Some parts of my
embarrassments have been silly and unnecessary, and I regret being embarrassed. Sure, emotion is
irrational, but no one else understands why I was embarrassed, it was probably a less clumsy situation
than I thought it was. Being embarrassed about my accent is something I have struggled with these
past two years due to inability to communicate with Native Americans fluently. If I asked to

situations during communication, and personally survived it. It was a very cold morning as the drifting

looking at the dropped temperature, I went to Ultra Food grocery store on this morning to buy some
groceries. Without wasting much of my time in the store, I quickly picked all I wanted to buy, put it in
the shopping cart and pushed my cart to the check out areas when I was ready to check out, the queues
on the check out registers were really long, so I opted for the self check out areas which were slightly
less congested. As I was scanning some of the items one by one, the machine asked if I wanted to

How Relationships Can Be Complicated, And They Do Not Come...
Relationships can be complicated, and they do not come with a learner s manual. I never thought
about the distribution of power in relationships. I assumed if I invested in the relationship, showed
empathy to my partner s needs, and was genuinely concerned with their well being, then I held power
in the relationship. The Principle of least interest put things into a new perspective for me. The ability
to communicate the affections of love separates us from other beings. However; love, especially an
unhealthy love, can leave us in a defenseless state. The beginning of a relationship is exhilarating and
stimulating, but there is no reassurance or intimacy. When I put my all into a relationship and there is
no effort from my partner, I have surrounded power over the relationship. I was nineteen years old,
and infatuated with my now ex boyfriend. I was inexperienced with relationships, and wanted
someone attentive to my needs. He awarded me with attention, and I had faith he saw something
unique in myself. Reflecting back on the relationship, I realized the love I had for him was never
sufficient enough. He blatantly looked at other women when we were out together. I tend to not be a
jealous person, but it hurt my ego and pride when my endeavors to look nice went unnoticed. My
mother has often asked why I stayed with him, and I never know how to answer the question. I
enabled him to treat me the way he did by investing my own identity and self worth into his approval.

The Value Of Art And Art
The ownership of art in 2017 is typically brought up in discussions regarding works of art with seven
to eight digit price tags, owned by individuals with a net worth that can be described using nine to ten
digits. However, popular opinion would probably agree that the person who has the single greatest
appreciation for art is the art historian. Popular opinion would also be quick to agree that the art
historian does not value a work of art in accordance with the market s appraisal of a given piece. The
art historian s origin is grounded in academia rather than profit margins or financial ownership.
The art historian s obligation lays in their responsibility to spread the wealth of knowledge associated
with the history of art while also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, if art historians were to take a passive stance to art that is at risk of being destroyed because
it is located in an area of geopolitical unrest, then they risk losing the very subjects that legitimizes
their occupational responsibilities. For example, we have seen that works located in the turbulent
sectors of the Middle East have been wiped out on massive scales. André Emrich highlighted the
greatest contemporary tragedy regarding the aforementioned statement in his essay, Improving the
Odds: Preservation through Distribution:
The worst act of barbarity to inaugurate the new millennium was the horrifying destruction in 2001 by
the Taliban and Al Qaeda in Afghanistan of the giant statues of Buddha at Bamiyan, and the smashing
of every piece of figurative art that could be found in the National Museum. The unprecedented,
deliberate destruction has left nothing but photographs of the art of entire cultural epochs. (source)
Perhaps obvious, but the necessary ethical response to tragedies such as this is to ensure the best
possible chance for the collective preservation of art. Art historians have no obligatory association
with a specific nation or institution, their obligation is to maintain and develop the narrative of art.
This cannot be done if the art they would like to examine evaporates from history due to rogue
extremist human action. Typically, disputes over repatriation are reserved to those who represent the
respective nations

The Fight For Women s Rights
In pre civil war America women were thought of as subordinate to men and thus had less rights than
free black men. African American and White women had similar political positions and rights besides
the fact that white women could own slaves with their family. They even performed the same jobs
when it came to house work. Black slaves were thought of to have 3/5s a vote in the senate while
women had none. Abolitionist and anti slavery movements arose along with the thought that people
should rally to abolish slavery and give free slaves rights. It was never before a movement to fight for
women s rights and thus educated women began to realize they must fight for their own rights.

both the 19th and 20th of July. This convention was run by two women, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and

Sentiments, Grievances, and Resolutions , written by Elizabeth Stanton. Thirteen resolutions were
made including that a man should not withhold a woman s rights, take her property or refuse to allow
her to vote, and sacred right of franchise. The revision of the Declaration of Independence received
signatures from female and male supporters. Sixty eight of the signers were women and 32 were men,
including Frederick Douglass. Although the Seneca Falls Convention was the first women s rights
convention in America, it was inspired by the World Anti Slavery Convention in 1840 in London. This
convention invited women but did not allow them to speak their opinions. Lucretia Mott expressed the
hypocrisy of this in her diary and thus sparked the beginning of the fight for

Why Should Children Be Involved In Organized Activities
In this day and age I feel that children should be more involved in organized activities. There are
many reasons for this to be said among them some of the main factors for the statement is today s
technology, the ammount of time that is spent inside looking at a screen, and the over all
antisocialness of children because of the freedom that they are given. Though there are good reasons
to let children to be open, free and creative with what they do with their time controling what they
should do with said time is a much better choice.
Starting off with why children should be in more organized activities is the technology that this age
has already released. Every child in todays time has some form of technology that they re always
looking into from a tablet, a phone, a laptop, or even just sitting inside looking a televison screen. All
these forms of technology take away from the childs time to do anything else this is why having
organized activities in their life can help them break away from such things. An example could be as
simple as sports say instead of coming home from school and sitting on their phone the children are
going to practice, games, or even scrimmages for their team. Thus this keeps them away from the
electronics and placing them in the real world. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Advantages And Disadvantages Of A Farmer
Farmer, the perfect profession?
This article will provide information of what being a farmer is, what is needed to become one, a
common routine and some positive and negative facts of this profession.
A farmer is a person who owns a farm and or takes care of it . Farmers normally perform two kinds of
professional activities: one is related with animals and the other with plants. The first one includes all
the process of breeding livestock, such as cattle, sheep, pig and goats. On the other hand we have the
work of agriculture; it consists on the growing of different kinds of plants for human or animal
consumption and products used for the development human life. Nowadays these two activities can be
performed separately, and that is why this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Being in constant contact with nature is one of the most common statements made by different
farmers. Seeing a deer crossing happily through the fields is beautiful to see and it is not within reach
of other jobs. In addition to this, you are the one establishing your working hours and your way of
working it is your responsibility to choose when and how you want to work. Contrary to popular
belief, farmers are able to develop their creativity as they can try to perform new techniques of
sowing, for example, or, they can invent new devices to improve their work. Another important aspect
is that your work is going to be different through the years because every harvest is going to be
different from the previous one. Becoming a farmer will teach a lot of new things, not only about
plants and crops, but also you are likely to become a weather forecast. For example if the clouds of the
sky look like stone pavement it is very possible that the next day is going to rain. Consuming your
own harvest is one of the most rewarding experiences and the taste of your own production is not
going to taste the same as the products bought in the

The Corruption Of The Puritans In New England In 1639
Deciding that religious freedom is worth the risks, the puritans crossed the sea. Puritans were
reformed protestants and believed that the church of England was still too much like it was before.
They believed the church of was corrupt. They didn t break from the church but sought to reform it, so
they set out for the New World in the 1630. When they arrived in the New England area they decided
to start a new colony. The puritans were very strict and didn t tolerate other religions.
Thomas Hooker was the founder of Connecticut colony and a prominent puritan minister. His most
famous sermon was on May 31, 1638 on Principles of Government. This influenced the fundamentals
of government in 1639. Roger Ludlow wrote most of the fundamentals of government,

Summary Of Ways Of Seeing By John Berger
In Ways of Seeing , John Berger discusses how the way people interpret thoughts is largely based on
other factors. In the second line of the text he says, The child looks and recognizes before it speaks
(Berger 142). Berger is telling people through this line that Seeing comes before words (Berger 142).
Children must take in their environment before they acquire a language. This even translates to when
they grow up and become adults. Adults take in their surroundings before beginning to discuss it with
others. Berger then goes on and discusses how the past becomes mystified by people in society today.
Cultural mystification of the past entails a double loss (Berger 145). When a painting is seen from our
past, people tend to situate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Seeing establishes our place in this world, but we use words to describe it. For example, a parent may
pick a type of school that their child will go to. They will pick either public or private school. This will
definitely shape the way the child views the world. Just picking one of these two types of school can
change a child s friend group, and personality. When those two things are shaped, it affects how the
child will see the world. He also goes on to say how there is a difference from what we see to what we
know. He uses the example of seeing the sun set. How it looks like the sun is revolving around the
earth, but we know it is the opposite. Then he says that our past knowledge influences how we see. In
our day to day lives, many things affect our way of seeing including: parents, environment and social
class.
A person s way of seeing can be taken away from many people, including their parents. When kids are
young, parents decide many factors for them. One of these factors tends to be religion. Choosing a
child s religion can definitely influence the way that they see the world. The way we see things is
affected by what we believe and what we know (Berger 142). If someone is being raised as a
Christian, they are most likely going to see everything through God. Every landscape, sunset, and
human are all there because God made it for them. On the other hand, if a child is being raised as an
Atheist, then they will see the world very

Camouflage Brandy Analysis
Throughout history, Musicians have used songs to tell stories, raise questions, and express their
feelings. In Camouflage by Brandy Norwood, she conveys her realization that love comes naturally,
and no one should have to change who they are in order to be love by giving an ultimatum through the
use of metaphors, imagery, and word choices. This song is also empowering and uplifting through its
use of words. In Camouflage Brandy uses metaphor and imagery to reveal and embrace her
personality. I m a work in progress, I m a seed grown into a flower (Norwood 1 and 2). She compares
herself to a work in progress, which infers that she is unstable, disorganized, and is not complete as a
person. Brandy also states that she is a seed grown into a flower, a seed by itself is not seen as
beautiful, but as time passes it grows and the flower blooms. The flower that blossom has a pretty
color smells nice, and seen as beautiful and appreciated by people. Even with all of her flaws, she

Comparing The Man Who Was Almost A Man And The Lesson
The two stories that I read about were The Man Who Was Almost A Man by Richard Wright and The
Lesson by Toni Cade. These two stories were very similar in many ways but they were also different
too. I learn a lot while I was reading these stories, they really gave me another insight on our society
and how other people can t really find their place in society. Dave Saunders who is the main character
in The Man Who Was Almost a Man , have a hard time dealing with racism and he feels powerless to
white people who are in power and have more money than him. For example Dave is very vulnerable
to his boss Mr. Hawkins because his boss have more money than him and he is in power. He also
thinks that white people have more control and power over blacks. In Dave eyes he feels like he lives
in a world where he has no freedom or potential to do anything in life. He works at a low paying job
and the money that he do receive he has to give to his mother.
Also Dave is always being downgraded by people around him and that s what makes him feel more

potential. That s when Dave starting thinking that owning a gun will be his only way of getting respect

Trinity In Religion
The word Trinity does not occur anywhere in the Holy Bible. However, that has never stopped
Trinitarians from finding what they believe are broad hints that the Holy Trinity is, like buried
treasure, to be found within the text of some biblical passages. In fairness, we will consider the most
popular of these and then make up our own minds always with the sound proviso that long held
religious traditions cannot be maintained if they contradict the Scriptures because our beliefs must rest
firmly on the teachings of the Bible.

Dear Editor of the Buckner Harold, Buckner s issue that is plaguing its teenagers is that there is
nothing for them to do, when teenagers get bored they can get very destructive the best way to counter
this is to have something for teenagers to do that they like. Buckner is a small town with not a lot to do

younger and smaller kids to play on, and there is a bar and restaurants for adults, but nothing for

There are so many destructive choices that teenagers make when they have nothing to keep their

Adderall, Opioid painkillers, Synthetic marijuana, Tranquilizers, Cough medicine, Vicodin,
Hallucinogens, OxyContin, Sedatives, Ecstasy (MDMA), LSD, Cocaine, Ritalin, Inhalants, and Salvia
as well as drinking alcoholic beverages while definitely under age. The CDC says that people from the
ages of 12 to 20 make up 11 percent of all alcohol consumed in the United States. Federal law in the
United States says that you must be 21 or older to consume alcohol or any sort. That 11 percent may
not seem so huge when you consider all of the alcohol being consumed by the United States each year,
but remember that 11 percent are all teens and kids under the legal drinking age. However drinking is
not the only path teenagers can choose out of boredom. Teenagers are also turning to drugs of all sorts
no matter what kind of drug it is. As a matter of fact it is estimated that 3,300 try marijuana for the
first time every day in the United States alone. A study has done that found that 12th graders who
smoke marijuana are 65 percent more likely to get in a car accident. In addition 51.7 teenagers 10th
grade through 12th grade have smoked pot sometime between the last month to the last year.
Furthermore though marijuana is not the only drug that teenagers are using there is also cocaine and
heroin. As a matter of fact 2.5 percent of teens have been caught up in cocaine use of some sort. On
top of that did you know that the average treatment age for a heroin addiction is 23 is most people

Battle Of Gettysburg Pennsylvania Essay
The Battle of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania was a major battle of the American Civil War. The Battle of

The Battle of Gettysburg was one of the turning points in the War Between the States. This battle was

electricity (Plans for Reactors). During that year, the International Energy Agency held special
attention toward hazardous scenarios. Minus the conspiracy, World Energy Outlook 2014 had a special

of 46%, while Korea, Russia and India will have 30% all together, whereas the US will have a 16%

The Life Of The Divine Comedy
A piece of literature written to walk people through life, and what is waiting for them after. The Divine
Comedy was written by a man of politics, relating his content to the events of his everyday life.
Moving deeper into the substance of the writing, there are three major sections represented, Inferno,
Purgatorio, and Paradiso. Furthermore, we will take a look at the nine circles of hell depicted in the
Divine Comedy.
Dante Alghieri s life leading up to the writing the Divine Comedy. Dante was known for engaging in
political agenda through his life and his writing. He was so into politics that he ran, and was elected as
one of the six priors of Florence in 1300. The priors were seen as a high group in the public eye and
only solidified his involvement in the government. His reign couldn t last forever though, and he was
exiled by the Black Guelfs upon their return to power. Dante greatly incorporated Florence politics
and society into the Divine Comedy because of his experience and knowledge on the subjects. Dante
is recorded to have traveled city to city in the hopes of finding military assistance in finding justice for
his unjust exile (Kumar . ) Along with that, he wanted to fight to bring the White Guelfs back in
power. Bringing this idea together, Akash Kumar wrote, settling for a presence in the court of certain
signori (political and military leaders) such as the Malaspina family in Lunigiana, Cangrande della
Scala in Verona, and finally Guido Novello of Ravenna.

The Rational Irrationality Complex
According to John Cassidy, markets fail due, not because of greed but rather to the fact that they act
irrationally. Their irrational decisions and results can be, in part, hindered and corrected by
government intervention. That markets fail mostly due to irrationality rather than to greed can be seen
from the scenario of the retail bookstores, particularly Borders, vs. that of e book publishing. It
appears that e book publishing may have a future (PWC, nd), but many book stores are slow to
acknowledge and appreciate that fact. Borders was one of those companies who failed to foresee the
future and acknowledge the fact. More so, they made the astounding error of employing one of their
key competitors to conduct some of their business. According to Cassidy, cognitive heuristics lead
people to be over optimistic about their future and opportunity, therefore making them unaware of
certain trends that should bother them. It is their smugness and obtuseness that causes them eventually
to fail. Some of the retail bookstores fail to appreciate the significant thereat threat that digital book
publishing continues to pose. At one time, it is true, e book publishing barley made its niche. This was
particularly so in Europe. But Amazon Kindle and similar tools have made it more acceptable and
popular and studies such s those by PWC (nd) predict incremental but sure growth of the digital book
publishing future. Hermans, for instance, plans to make e books part of her

  • 3. The Hoover Dam and Its Construction Essay Outside of China, the United States is the most dammed country on the planet. Counting only dams taller than fifty feet high, the U.S. has some 5,000 dams that range from giant hydroelectric dams such as the Grand Coulee in Washington State to flood control dams in the southeast and dams that provide water for irrigation in California. Overall the United States has as many as 2.5 million dams of one sort or another. The design and construction of many of these dams took place between 1930 and 1975. Fortunately the U.S. government anticipated this problem and had already created plans to build a modern city, known as Boulder City, to house the workers and their families near the site of Hoover Dam. To the surprise of both the government and Six Companies, Inc. Boulder City turned into a community. Churches, a school, a newspaper, and a library were all built in Boulder City making it a model community [iii]. Before construction of the actual dam could take place the Colorado River first had to be diverted, this was done by tunneling four huge diversion tunnels through the bedrock of Black Canyon. • 4. Leaving The Orbit Leaving the Orbit but Entering Knowledge When I was a child, I used to think that the idea of space travel was out of this world, some parts of myself still do. I ve always believed that astronauts had a job more fascinating than anyone else, to have the luxury of being a part of one of the most spectacular feats in the world. It was a luxury not just given to them, but obtained through years of exhausting, strenuous work. I m very proud, to this day, to be a citizen of the country that put the first footprint on the moon. Margaret Lazarus Dean, author of Leaving Orbit, and a NASA junkie, does an excellent job at opening the eyes of her readers to show the long hours, days, and years put into American space flight. After reading the book, the stories and experiences shared have helped me to more suitably understand the substantial accomplishment American spaceflight has made. ... The Status of Women and The Bhakti Movement in India Originating in ancient Tamil Nadu, the Bhakti movement in India spread to the north during the late medieval ages when north India was under Islamic rule. The movement was spontaneous and counter to the predominant caste ideology which was dividing Hinduism. The adherents of the movement had their own rendering of devotional expression. While in the south, devotion was centered on both Shiva and Vishnu (in all his forms), the northern devotional movement was centered on Rama and Krishna, both of whom are believed to be incarnations of Vishnu. Well aware of this, the saints of the movement narrated their philosophy in local dialects and lyrical forms. They also expressed their ideologies and teachings through hymns and poems. In contrast, while the male bhakti saints clamoured for change and protested against the injustices in society, the woman was still expected to be at the back of the home. The male bhaktas did not have any intention of including women in these changing times. One major exception to this is Nanak, who spoke for the empowerment of women. He wrote : It is by women that we are conceived and it is from her that we are betrothed and married It is a woman we befriend and it is she keeps a race going When one woman dies another is sought for and it is with her that we get established in society Why call her evil from whom are born kings and great men. (Nanak) The Nirgun sant especially, looked down on women. Even sants like Surdas, Dadu dayal and Tulsidas felt that women were to be kept subdued and in control. However, saints like Mirabai, Bahinabai, Dayabai, Janabai, Sahjo Bai, Akka Mahadevi and Kanhopatra, to name a few, through their bold poetry and self expression, embraced this movement and broke through the conventional restrictions of medieval Indian society. He was an Italian mathematician, astronomer, and philosopher who very strongly supported Copernicanism, which is the idea that the earth orbits the sun. It was hard to advocate Copernicanism because it was a very controversial idea during that time. Galileo was a leader in the Scientific Revolution. He made discoveries in the sciences of motion, astronomy, and strength of materials. In motion, his famous scientific discoveries were circular inertia, law of falling bodies and parabolic path of projectiles. In mathematics, he changed philosophy from a verbal explanation to a mathematical one in which experimentation was a method for discovering facts of nature. In astronomy, he revolutionized telescope and made way for the recognition of the Copernican heliocentric system. Galileo changed the world forever. Galileo s childhood was full of schooling and studying. Galileo was born in Pisa, Italy, on February 15, 1564. Galileo, the oldest child in the family, was born to Guilia Ammannati, and Vincenzo Galilei, who was a great musician. When Galileo was eight, he moved to Florence. My faith affects many aspects of my life such as my actions and decisions. • 9. Analysis Of Borders By Thomas King Borders , by Thomas King, takes place at the Canadian American border. The main character is a mother who is Blackfoot. The mother refuses to identify herself as either Canadian or American; instead, the mother insists that she is Blackfoot, and because of this she and her twelve year old son have to stay in amidst the border offices of Canada and the United States. The title of this short story, Borders indicates two borders; one is the physical border amid Canada and the United States and the other is a metaphorical border between someone s identity and citizenship. In Thomas King s Borders The story shows proudness of citizenship and it portrays where you are from is a huge part of who you are. The three arguments that I will argue to prove this thesis is that the mother is proud that she is a Blackfoot, It is rare and improbable for a young women to leave the reserve, and that the mother dislikes the Americans because she was proud of her own people. The mother, throughout the short story, is proud to be a Blackfoot. The first piece of evidence that supports this is that the mother blatantly refuses to identify as Canadian or American. When the mother said, Citizenship? Blackfoot . The mother knows she has to identify as either an American or Canadian but she refuses to because of how proud she is of her people. • 10. Analysis Of Ivan O MahoneyGo Back To Where You Came From In fostering effectual discovery, experiences must offer renewed understandings of the world, of which individuals are willingly receptive to. This willingness to challenge presumptions, often conditioned by contextual rigidity, heightens emotional and intellectual awareness, thus compelling meaningful connection with foreign people and places. Such is explored in Ivan O Mahoney s episodic docudrama, Go Back to Where You Came From (2008), which urges participants to revoke shielded attitudes in reassessing human understanding. Alike, the innate curiosity of individuals conjures unexpected, transformative discovery, communicated distinctively in Sally Morgan s autobiography My Place (1987). As responders, our reception to the composer s manipulation catalyses our own discovery, thereby inviting us to challenge personal perspectives in nourishing intensely meaningful discovery. The extent to which discovery is embraced relies on the willingness of individuals to be ideologically receptive to their experiences. The influence of discovery may not be determined by the level of planning involved, but one s willingness widen their perspective of the world, accepting places and people foreign to them. Whilst the mise en scene of the beach in the opening interviews establish Adam s sheltered and apprehensive response to the refugee issue, his commitment and continual engagement on the Go Back journey accentuates the transformation he experiences. Through the perceptive arrangement of indirect interviewing, close up and mid shots, Adam s reality check at Villawood Detention Centre proved both intellectually and emotionally transformative, symbolically summated in O Mahoney s concluding image of this participant s reflection with his passport, tenderly appreciating the safety of his home. The director purposefully juxtaposes the limited impact of Raquel s discovery due to her detachment. The salient focus on her despondent facial and body expressions at the Chin school contrasts Gleny and Raye s reflection on their empowering teaching experience, hence highlighting the vitality of personal interaction in facilitating intensely meaningful discovery. Compared to other countries America is lagging behind. The improvement of access to care has become of high importance to the betterment of society and the country s health care outcome. This paper will describe the three major problems that exist in the United States health care. In addition, it will explore the proposed health care plans of two 2016 presidential candidates and the position they take in regards the big issues. The uninsured and acquiring access to health care is one of the problems that the United States faces in regards to health care. An obstacle that individuals face is that gaining access to health care is linked to having a job. However, the problem does not stop there. The problem continues in the form that not every job gives people access to health care. Many employers will stop from offering individuals full time status because then they would have to offer some type of insurance plan. Thus, employers often hire people as part time so as to not have to face giving people benefits they may deem too costly. Inherently, people are finding themselves without insurance due to the fact that acquiring health care is contingent on having a job. What does this mean for the jobless? Based on the linkage between health care access and being employed, it is rather visible that the unemployed would be faced with being uninsured and difficulty acquiring access. The ... In Shakepearse s play, Coriolanus, having a name is strongly correlated to having an identity, thus if an individual does not have a name he or she is nothing. Coriolanus is a prominent Roman war hero who had a strongly developed sense of self in the beginning of the play. There are many reasons for this to be said among them some of the main factors for the statement is today s technology, the ammount of time that is spent inside looking at a screen, and the over all antisocialness of children because of the freedom that they are given. Though there are good reasons to let children to be open, free and creative with what they do with their time controling what they should do with said time is a much better choice. Every child in todays time has some form of technology that they re always looking into from a tablet, a phone, a laptop, or even just sitting inside looking a televison screen. Just picking one of these two types of school can change a child s friend group, and personality. When those two things are shaped, it affects how the child will see the world. He also goes on to say how there is a difference from what we see to what we know. He uses the example of seeing the sun set. How it looks like the sun is revolving around the earth, but we know it is the opposite. Then he says that our past knowledge influences how we see. In our day to day lives, many things affect our way of seeing including: parents, environment and social class. A person s way of seeing can be taken away from many people, including their parents. These two stories were very similar in many ways but they were also different too. I learn a lot while I was reading these stories, they really gave me another insight on our society and how other people can t really find their place in society. Dave Saunders who is the main character in The Man Who Was Almost a Man , have a hard time dealing with racism and he feels powerless to white people who are in power and have more money than him. However, that has never stopped Trinitarians from finding what they believe are broad hints that the Holy Trinity is, like buried treasure, to be found within the text of some biblical passages. In fairness, we will consider the most popular of these and then make up our own minds always with the sound proviso that long held religious traditions cannot be maintained if they contradict the Scriptures because our beliefs must rest firmly on the teachings of the Bible. The Divine Comedy was written by a man of politics, relating his content to the events of his everyday life. Moving deeper into the substance of the writing, there are three major sections represented, Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso. Furthermore, we will take a look at the nine circles of hell depicted in the Divine Comedy. Dante Alghieri s life leading up to the writing the Divine Comedy. Dante was known for engaging in political agenda through his life and his writing. He was so into politics that he ran, and was elected as one of the six priors of Florence in 1300. The priors were seen as a high group in the public eye and only solidified his involvement in the government. His reign couldn t last forever though, and he was exiled by the Black Guelfs upon their return to power. Dante greatly incorporated Florence politics and society into the Divine Comedy because of his experience and knowledge on the subjects. Dante is recorded to have traveled city to city in the hopes of finding military assistance in finding justice for his unjust exile (Kumar . ) Along with that, he wanted to fight to bring the White Guelfs back in power. Bringing this idea together, Akash Kumar wrote, settling for a presence in the court of certain signori (political and military leaders) such as the Malaspina family in Lunigiana, Cangrande della Scala in Verona, and finally Guido Novello of Ravenna. ... • 38. The Rational Irrationality Complex According to John Cassidy, markets fail due, not because of greed but rather to the fact that they act irrationally. Their irrational decisions and results can be, in part, hindered and corrected by government intervention. That markets fail mostly due to irrationality rather than to greed can be seen from the scenario of the retail bookstores, particularly Borders, vs. that of e book publishing. It appears that e book publishing may have a future (PWC, nd), but many book stores are slow to acknowledge and appreciate that fact. Borders was one of those companies who failed to foresee the future and acknowledge the fact. More so, they made the astounding error of employing one of their key competitors to conduct some of their business. According to Cassidy, cognitive heuristics lead people to be over optimistic about their future and opportunity, therefore making them unaware of certain trends that should bother them. It is their smugness and obtuseness that causes them eventually to fail. Some of the retail bookstores fail to appreciate the significant thereat threat that digital book publishing continues to pose. At one time, it is true, e book publishing barley made its niche. This was particularly so in Europe. But Amazon Kindle and similar tools have made it more acceptable and popular and studies such s those by PWC (nd) predict incremental but sure growth of the digital book publishing future. Hermans, for instance, plans to make e books part of her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
