Relationship Between Barbie Dolls And The Development...
Primary data will be used to answer the research questions guiding this research. The population,
sample and procedure will be covered in the following sections. Sample The population will be
gathered from all adolescent girls ages 5 15 in Lubbock, TX. Given that children develop a self
concept at the age of 6, 120 African American female children ages 6 8 will be invited to participate in
the study from North, South, East and West Lubbock. This is the equivalence to a child s first, second
and third grade level. Prior to any participant recruitment or data collection, all procedures will be
approved by the school district and written parental consent will be obtained for each participating
girl. Verbal consent will be obtained from each girl prior to each session where they will be told they
can leave at any time if they wish to do so. Sampling Technique Probability sampling was chosen to
generalize the results of the study to the population and investigate the relationships between Barbie
dolls and the development in racial identity and self concept. A qualified sample was utilized to
control who can participate in the study. The sampling method best suited to gather the participants is
stratified sampling to get an adequate representation of the population. The characteristics of the
segments included age, gender, ethnicity and zip code. In each year group, one third of the girls will
be placed in different experimental conditions: traditional Caucasian Barbie doll,

The Flea, By Andrew Marvell
John Donne s, The Flea, and Andrew Marvell s To His Coy Mistress are persuasive poem in which the
speaker is attempting to establish a sexual union with his significant other. These poems is spoken by
a male lover to his female beloved as an attempt to convince her to sleep with him. John Donne and
Marvell brings out and shapes this meaning through his collective use of conceit, rhythm, and rhyme
scheme. The basic theme of the poems is the speaker s need to turn his coy mistress into a willing
mistress .
Donne uses the flea as a conceit, to represent a sexual union with his significant other. Marvell using
his way with words to convince his lover to a sexual union. In the first stanza in The Flea, a flea bites
the speaker and woman. He responds to this incident by saying, And in this flea our bloods mingled
be. (line 4). He is suggesting that they are united in this flea and would equally be united in intimacy.
In the first stanza of To His Coy Mistress , the speaker tells his woman that if they had more time and
space that her coyness wouldn t be a crime. He says this, Had we but World enough, and Time, This
coyness lady were no crime . (line 1,2) Marvell also would compliment her and admire her. In the Flea
, the speaker tries to marry the man and woman while in To His Coy Mistress the man is not trying to
marry the

New and Improved Rewards at Work
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to determine how innovations in employee benefits can improve the
overall competitive compensation strategy of the organization. Then, it explains how innovative
benefits could be tied to specific jobs. After that, it critiques the effectiveness of equity based rewards
systems versus those with more creative approaches and discusses the key elements of integrating
innovation into a traditional total rewards program. And last, it recommends a process that optimizes
an employee based suggestion program to continually refresh the total rewards of the organization.

Also lack of these benefits may cause losing of that employee. These benefits impact the way
employees feel about their work in a either good or bad way. So companies must create innovative
benefits for their employees. Otherwise they can lose their competitive advantage (Worldatwork,
2007). There are a few benefits that employees will expect as standard. These benefits are usually seen
as priority and can include pensions, medical, dental and life insurance and. Aside from priority
benefits a number of companies need to add extra enticements. These employee benefits can include
discretionary bonuses, performance related bonuses, profit sharing, gym memberships. Employers
who then go the extra mile above standard employee benefits packages may be looking at some extra
loyal employees. Innovative employee benefits are not the normal or standard benefits. They can
sometimes be seen as unusual but can actually be very worthwhile. Examples of innovative benefits
can include: * Flexible working hours for employees * Childcare centers * Benefits that include use
by members of the employee s family * Subsidized meals at staff canteens * Certain companies do
offer subsidized housing to employees * Telecommuting and working from home options * Certain
companies do offer use of company accommodation at holiday centers.

British Petroleum And Oil Spill
On April 20, 2010, an explosion occurred in the Deepwater Horizon in the Gulf of Mexico. The ocean
was filled with oil which harmed the environment. The oil spill is considered to be the biggest spill in
the United States. Several sea creatures were covered with oil, it contaminated them and killing others.
The local people were affected by the oil change by having no job due to the water being toxic. The
British Petroleum company do not take fault for the explosion but they cleaned up the oil spill.
Although the British Petroleum contradicted themselves making the situation worse. The company
failed to deliver an effective message to the world. The company miscommunicated which it made the
company seem irresponsible and unreliable. Situations like this can be prevented by having a public

Essay on Jesse Cleveland Owens
James Cleveland Owens otherwise known as Jesse was an Olympic long jumper and sprinter whose
speed and inspirational defiance of Hitler shocked the world. The 1936 Olympics were held in Berlin
and Adolf Hitler of the Nazi party believed that these Olympic Games would showcase the great skill
of the Aryan (Caucasian) race, and the last person he would expect to show him up would be an
African American man (Barnes 1). With sixty six U.S. Olympic contestants competing in the Games,
the American race was really put on the spot in front of Hitler, the most powerful man in the world
(Smith 1). Jesse Owens was one of these men, and while being laughed at by Hitler during his one
hundred meter sprint against six other Caucasian sprinters, he ... Show more content on

He argued that the Olympic ideal was to be a time out from war and above politics (Smith 4).
Owens was an underprivileged African American boy that grew up in the south during the early
nineteen hundreds, his chances of making the Olympics were far out of his reach. He was born in
Oakville, Alabama and was the youngest in the family with six brothers and three sisters (Barnes 1).
At the age of nine Owens family moved to Columbus Ohio because of the bad economy and
segregation that was prominent in the south. When Jesse was five he had developed a life threatening
tumor on his chest, but because of his families overwhelming poverty he never received proper
medical care (McCoy 1). However according to McCoy (1), One day Jesse woke up to his mother
Mary standing over him with a sterilized knife and boiling water. She cut the tumor off her baby boy,
causing him to bleed for three days. Fortunately, he survived the amateur surgery. Surprisingly this
surgery performed by his mother was successful and Owens never had issues with the tumor or the
surgery at any time in his life. As a kid Jesse was very shy and it was because of this shyness he
possessed that he is called Jesse Owens today. According to Smith (3), When his new teacher asked

Essay about The Heroic Nora Helmer in Henrik Ibsen s A...
The Heroic Nora Helmer in Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s House What does it mean to be a hero? According
to Webster, a hero is someone of great strength [and] courage who is admired for his or her courage
and nobility. 1 Stretching this definition a bit further, I would argue that a hero is someone who uses
this strength, courage, and nobility to help or save others. Nora Helmer, in Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s
House, leaves her husband and family at the end of the play a move that can be viewed as either very
selfish or very heroic. Because Nora uses her strength and courage in effort to save others and herself
from the false doll s house life they are living in, her final act of leaving home is truly heroic. Nora
saves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can be seen when she calls her youngest child her sweet little baby doll, and later when she
reassures her children that the doggies wouldn t bite [her] pretty little dollies (22).2 Nora seems to be
overlooking the fact that these little, doll like figures are real people that she is responsible for. In this
same scene, Nora plays hide and seek, laughing and shrieking, with her kids (23). As the argument
that Nora is being selfish states, she is her children s playmate. Yet, shouldn t a mother be more than
just a fellow playmate? A mother has a responsibility to teach and train her children, not just play with
them. This scene is the only time we see direct interaction between Nora and her kids; it suggests that
being a playmate or else using them as her play toys, are two of the only ways Nora knows how to be
a mother. Nora herself admits to Torvald, in their final confrontation, that the children have been my
dolls who thought it was fun when I went and played with them (81). Later in the play, after this first
scene with her children, when Nora is talking to Anne Marie, we can see that she is making efforts to
ensure that her children will be cared for if even if she is not there to raise them. Anne Marie is the
only mother Nora has ever had and, as Nora says, she was a good mother to [Nora] when [she] was
little (36). Nora goes on to say, And if my little ones only had

Titanic Essay
Titanic Essay
Many people across the world watch films. It is so popular because it puts a story on the screen and
into life so that people can see it.
People watch films for the entertainment value, or are simply too lazy to read and enjoy the magic of a
book.
The advantages of watching a film at the cinema rather than on video is the bigger screen, and the
surround sound, also the atmosphere. This all adds up and creates a bigger impact than a video.
People make films to tell a story or get a message across, such as Pearl Harbour, which tells us the
story of a real historical event through the eyes of a fictional love story, very much like Titanic. Or
Shrek, which puts a message ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of this on Titanic is when they go from the back of the boat to the front.
They also use Sound Effect to make what is happening sound more real, such as an explosion or band.
They also use backing tracks, which can be used to emphasise the emotion a character is feeling. For
example, if it was sad, they might use a love song.
They use costume to show you what time something was set it, or the class of the people, particularly
shown in Titanic, as Jack is very poor and Rose is rich. The characters who wear the costumes are also
very important. They have to look the part and sound the part, not just be able to read the lines. They
have to act the way a person of that time would.
For my GCSE coursework, I will be writing a Media essay on Titanic, which was directed by James
Caremon. It was made in 1997, and was the most expensive film made at the time. It won many
awards, and is one of the great love stories told, based on a real historical event.
The Titanic was quoted as being Titanic, wasn t just another ship, it was bigger, faster, and more
luxurious than any other ship before her. She had two sister ships, The Olympic and The Britannic, all
of which were owned by White Star Line, a series of very luxurious ships. It was built in Harland and
Wolff Shipyard, and was 882 ft 6 inches, by 92 ft 6 inches. It had 2212 people onboard, 20 lifeboats,

Theme Of Death In Beowulf
Every man must expose himself to the reality that death is unescapable. There is no amount of human
strength, shiny armor nor treasured sword that can always prevent the inevitable. Any character in
literature that is being portrayed immortal is fiction. Beowulf as often as not regards himself as the
one who can conquer all. Beowulf like others is ignorant towards his own mortality. Even though,
Beowulf is successful in his earliest battles he still remains careless to the understanding that he will
die. The concept of mortality was something Beowulf was faced with time and time again. Beowulf
had to discover how accepting one s fate can later become the most rewarding.

Beowulf killed Grendal s mother just like Grendal. He fought again with no regards of the possible
outcomes. He did it for the glory he would receive from the kill. Hrothgar compliments Beowulf after
killing Grendal s mom by saying forever you will be your people s mainstay and your warriors helping
hand . (Beowulf,1707 1709). Hrothgar is one who tries to understand a man s mortality. He informs
Beowulf that he should learn true values and he has wintered into wisdom . (Beowulf,1722 1724). He
alerts Beowulf to the notion that one day he will die. Hrothgar tells Beowulf that no amount of
treasure or victories can gain a man s immortality. Beowulf is advised to not act as Heremod once did.
Heremod s rule only brought death and destruction to the Danish people. (Beowulf,1712 1713). He
killed his fellow comrades and vented rage on any who wrong him. (Beowulf,1713 1715). Hrothgar
does not want Beowulf to be absent minded and ignore the shape of things to come. (Beowulf,1752).
It appears that Hrothgar wants Beowulf to be cautious of his actions. He tells Beowulf to choose
eternal rewards and not give way to pride. (Beowulf,1760). That is Hrothgar s approach to Beowulf
about having and representing Christen behaviors. The course of all the advice given by Hrothgar was
because he wanted Beowulf to accept his mortality. He told Beowulf that although his strength is in
bloom it will fade

Writing By Omission By John Mcphee Summary
Try Greening That
The first article listed to read was Writing by Omission by John McPhee, which I found to be an
interesting lens to inspect the three pieces from the The Globe and Mail we chose to read. Out of the
four readings of the week, Writing by Omission was by far the most insightful. McPhee uses his own
tribulations as a writer in the industry to illustrate his notion that writing is selection. Every word,
paragraph, and chapter must be selected amongst a great arc of potentialities available to the writer,
and it is the author s grand task to carefully choose the most appropriate next piece.
McPhee recounts his time trying to select the best words to be left behind from his manuscripts and
what should be restored and what shouldn t be. The idea of greening a paper comes from his work at
Time, where the articles had to fit a specified number of lines. The authors were told to Green 5, and
had no choice but to comply by removing five entire lines from their work. The practice, McPhee
argues, forces the writer to make the most out of what they have and how making a piece tighter and
more restricted enhances its appeal. I can t help but wonder how many lines could be greened from my
own reflective papers, or my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

company before leaving it all. In the end, he did make his way successfully climb into a commercial

story itself was more sympathetic to my ears, as I myself don t particularly want to be swallowed

The Characteristics And Stereotypes Of Latinos El Bandido
Reports show that Latinos are the most underrepresented ethnic group in film affected by stereotypical
issues shown via pictures in our heads and through watching. I concur with this information as
stereotype starts from a personal level, which is definite through meditation, this does not include all
the negative traits portrayed by the out group. Although we have some general stereotypical
agreements within in groups that cannot change. This stereotyping is evident in a case where a
foreigner defines Bandido accurately while a (North) American will involve them with laziness, being
dirty and all sorts of negativity on them. These findings make me feel that Latinos and Americans will
always be contrary to their film industry. The stereotype on Latinos el Bandido is based not only on
ethnic but also behavioral, where they are deemed violent and antisocial, different nationality, as in not
belonging to the North America and psychological where they are associated with alcoholic,
prostitution and being unstable. With this stereotype, Hollywood is seen as a perfect example of the
filmmaking and professionalism, in a way this demeans the Latinos effort in the film. Stereotypical
images are in the cinematic register where they are intentionally included to make film sale and also to
be critical in the narration process. Hollywood stereotyping Latino s poet is common in many films
displaying poverty and crime as part of their livelihood. Moreover, they use standard films

The Pros And Cons Of Animal Cloning
When the subject of cloning is brought up, many people expect to see an exact replica of a person,
including the same age. However, there is much more to cloning than creating an identical person
from the original. A clone is defined to be a cell or organism that is genetically indistinguishable to the
original cell or organism from which it is acquired (Rogers, 2015). Cloning was introduced in 1903 by
Herbert J. Webber, who was an American plant scientist and used cloning in reference to plants that
had been assembled through asexual propagation by horticultural methods. Plants that are propagated
asexually, whether from twigs or cuttings of other parts or from bulbs or buds, are exact genetic
replicas of their parent plant (Rogers, 2015). In nature, cloning happens all the time. Thesis: There are
many different topics to cloning other than the subject that began the idea of cloning. Over the years,
the topics of human cloning and animal cloning have been discussed bringing debate on ethical issues
and whether there are any advantages or disadvantages.
Animal cloning is a process by which a complete organism is replicated from a single cell extracted
from the parent organism and in a manner in which they are genetically the same (Cloning, 2017).
Meaning, that the cloned animal is an exact copy of its parent; both contain the identical DNA
(Cloning, 2017). More specifically, in reproductive cloning, researchers remove a mature somatic cell,
such as a skin cell, from

Summary Of The Movie The Bear Came Over The Mountain
Stories can be told in many different ways through different forms of media ultimately trying to
explain the same idea. The short story The Bear Came Over the Mountain and the movie Away from
her are examples of two different ways of telling the same story trying to grasp the same ideas through
different forms of media. In this essay evaluations will be made between two different forms of media
using the short story The Bear Came Over the Mountain and the movie Away from Her . The
evaluation will explain whether or not the film lives up to the short story based on the detail, plot and
imagery.
In the movie Away from her the beginning scenes start off with the past and then head into the future,
then back to the past again , without explaining details that can be crucial to the story. In the beginning
of the short story it begins with the explanation of the characters family foundation where it states
Fiona s past Fiona lived in her parents house, in the town her and grant went to the university. Then it
goes into more detail of Fiona mother and father by stating Her mother was Icelandic a powerful
woman with a froth of white hair and indignant far left politics. The father was an important
cardiologist, revered around the hospital but happily subservient at home, where he would listen to his
wife s strange tirades with an absentminded smile. (Munro, 2013) The movie did not totally explain

The Decline of the West
Financial crises affect the lives of millions of people all over the world. Although many families try
their best to continue living their lives like nothing happened, recessions can have a serious effect on
their day to day interactions, as well as their daily lives. In the short story The Decline of the West
written by Hanif Kureishi and published in Collected Stories in 2010, Mike and his family represents a
normal family whom have fallen victims to the 2008 financial crisis. Mike and his family lives in a

thought: How easy it was to fall, and how tempting it was suddenly would be best to die! But just in
time, he grabs the railing and steadies himself. Down in the basement, he s surrounded by paint cans,
broken toys, discarded purchases and bags of credit card receipts. He is surrounded by materialism
and realizes, that he is not satisfied with all of this. He realizes how his family has fallen victim to the
capitalistic and materialistic mind set shared by millions of people in the west. It was in the moment
where the world was dark, that Mike had his enlightenment the moment where he was away from any
interruption from society. Suddenly, the lights appear once more, and the material world comes back

Justification by Faith
JUSTIFICATION BY FAITH
An Apologist View
Professor John Markley
BIBL 425 ROMANS
BY
KELLY RANDALL
JUNE 2012 Introduction
Dating to the writing of the book of Romans there has been a basic misunderstanding as to what Paul
meant by justification by faith. The Jewish culture had been educated in the law and yet the Gentile
culture was being instructed that the law was death. The Jewish community was confused and aghast
that God would justify sinners. Nonetheless that is exactly what Paul said God would do and he would
do it based on the simple faith of the believer.
Our early church fathers also struggled. Martin Luther and other reformers emphasized justification
over salvation by works. In response the Catholic Church ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other Words to Define Sometimes when we hear the word justification we find it accompanied by
other ation words: sanctification, glorification, propitiation, regeneration and imputation. These words
are from time to time used interchangeably. This can be confusing and needs to be clarified before
continuing. Imputation is where credit has been given. It can also mean to lay responsibility on
someone. With God, imputation is where He accounts righteousness to the believer. Sanctification is
separate from justification. Justification is about one s position with God; sanctification is about one s
spiritual condition. Propitiation is defined in Reformation tradition as the satisfaction of divine wrath
upon sin . Regeneration is the creation of a new heart and new spirit. This change of heart and spirit is
what allows us to live righteous lives. Glorification comes once we receive our heavenly reward. It is
the completion of our salvation. Righteousness is another word that may be misunderstood. It involves
our dealings and relations with others. When we behave in a righteous way, it is because we are
consistent in every given circumstance in regards to others. God is our example of righteousness. He
is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. Even the devil cannot call into question that God is
righteous in all his dealings.
Wrath of God God s righteousness can also be seen in his wrath. We first see the wrath of God in the
Old Testament.

War and conflict have raged in Southeast and Central Asia for centuries due to civil unrest and

and unpredictability of an already unstable government in Afghanistan. The appointment of the new
Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour could result in a dangerous liaison with ISIS. The agenda of
these jihadist extremists is the take over the Afghan and Pakistan governments in favor of the more
stringent Islamic ways of the Taliban. These groups, professing to do the work of God, are
perpetrating a coarse and distorted interpretation of Islam and the Quran. Insurgents have committed
violent acts including the killing of police, military personnel, assassinations of political figures, and
suicide bombings (Ghufran, 2009, pg 44). Due to the dangerous capabilities of the Taliban combining
with the organizational competence of ISIS, the United States coalition forces must be cautious about
leaving too quickly from Afghanistan, which will also affect Pakistan.
The Birth of the Taliban
The Taliban emerged in 1994 from a group of guerilla type Muslim Mujahidin that had fought in the
Afghan and Soviet war and were dissatisfied and disillusioned with their current leadership. The
Mujahidin s purpose is to perform jihad, meaning to struggle, strive, or persevere in doing God s will
(Wikipedia, 2015).

Suspense In The Black Cat
In the story The Black Cat by Edgar Allan Poe the setting, characters and suspense are all used as
elements to show horror throughout the story. The story opens in the cell of the prisoner the day before
he is to be executed by hanging. He introduces himself then tells us of what led to his imprisonment.
The story takes place at the prisoners home or tavern with his wife, birds, gold fish, dog, rabbits, small
monkey and a black cat. The characters that influenced the horror the most were the narrator, the wife,
Pluto and the second black cat. The narrator had major issues, he was abusive, a bully and a murderer.
He made his home terrible by treating everyone and everything in the house horribly. He is also

Video Number Three Presentations From Baroness Glenys...
Video number three featured three presentations from Baroness Glenys Thornton, Clifford Harding,
and Henry Bonsu. All three of these presentations involved the different perspectives that can take
place in education, particularly in Great Britain and how these minority groups are currently viewed as
inferior within Great Britain.
Baroness Glenys Thornton took a larger sociological approach toward the underrepresentation of
minorities. Her presentation was based on the diversity of the members of the British parliament as
well as the diversity of the other portions of the British government. She stated that minority groups
are underrepresented by a margin of about three percent of the current population in the British
parliament.
Clifford Harding took a more individualized approach to this issue. Clifford didn t really grow up in
the best living conditions, and he was involved in some questionable things such as drugs. He said that
was often told that he was dumb and stupid when he was in school (mainly due to the fact that he was
dyslexic) and that it would be safe to say that these taunts would discourage many people from
continuing their education if they were faced with these messages.
Henry Bonsu added onto Clifford Harding s message in his presentation. Bonsu s message was that we
all have the ability to do anything we want to in schools. The only reason that we feel as if we won t
do well is that we think we won t do well. As soon as we gain confidence and ignore

The Cultural And Socio Economic Context
Different cultural groups show distinctive rates and experiences of the disorder, reflecting their
different cultural and socio economic context. Gotlib Hammen, (2002) propose a noticeable and
explicit pattern that seems to continuously emerge is that depression appears to occur much more in
western cultures (US, Canada, UK, Holland) than in Asian (Japan, Taiwan, China) cultures. Such
differences in rates of depression have been attributed to a number of factors such as differences in the
amount of humiliation attached to depression (Asian cultures stigmatizing symptoms of depression
more than Western cultures) and to different levels of social support (with Asian cultures have a much
more sense of collectivist community and social support from family and peers in contrast to
individualistic western cultures). However these findings are also subject to scrutiny as with many
cross cultural research studies. Ethnocentrism is usually the criticism that emerges during these
studies; for example, the issue of diagnosing/classifying one with depression may differ country to
country. Behaviour deemed abnormal in one country may be deemed normal in another. In addition to
this, language barriers are likely to intervene, and researchers are likely to misinterpret subjects they
are studying if there is a culture clash. Such differences may therefore justify the variation in
prevalence of depression as oppose to being a true reflection of cultural differences. Aside from

The Importance Of The Basketball Game
It was basketball season and I was in eighth grade. Our team s record was 7 1 and we were playing
william lenoir middle school today, who had beat us the first game of the season. We all woke up
thinking about this game. The whole morning as I was getting ready for school the only thing I could
think about was this game. I got to school and all me and the rest of the team talked about was beating
them. We all talked about it all day and that s all our team could think about. It was about 2:50 and I
started feeling really nervous and I know I wasn t the only one. 10 more minutes went by and school
finally let out and now I was very nervous because I knew how big this game was and so did all my
teammates. We were very quiet as the girls game was being played before ours. We all sat together but
not a single word was said to anybody. Once it was halftime of the girls game our coach told us to go
get changed. At this point you could tell how nervous our whole team was. We got down to the locker
room and changed. Our coach came down to the locker room with a giant speaker so we knew he was
up to something. He told us all to sit down and listen. So we sat down and he started playing a song.
He told us to put our heads down, close our eyes, and just imagine in our minds winning the game. We
all thought he was crazy for thinking a song would change the way the game went. Once the song was
over we had to go upstairs and wait till the girls game was over. They only had 1 minute left and my
hands started getting really sweaty. It was probably the longest minute of my life. When the buzzer for
the girls game went off my stomach dropped to the ground. I knew it was time to go out. We ran out of
the locker room and every seat in the stands was full of people. We only had 5 minutes to warm up
and that was the fastest 5 minutes of my life. The buzzer went off and we had to go sit on the bench.
They started calling our names and when they called mine it was a really exciting feeling. Now both
teams had their starting 5 on the court. The game started right when we got on the court and got set up.
William lenoir won the tip. Their whole team started off hot. They were hitting

In her article Women s History Joan Scott states that it is important for historians to be attentive to
both the ways in which politics constructs gender and gender constructs politics . First, definitions for
politics and gender will be established in order to analyze Scott s claim. Second, what Scott meant by
the claim politics constructs gender will be illustrated. Third, the contradictory claim gender

Both politics (all relationships involving unequal distributions of power) and gender involve cultural
definitions and as a result politics and gender have influence on each other. Historians, as Joan Scott
states, must be aware the influence that politics and gender have on one another in order to create a
complete, accurate history.
The idea that historians should be aware that politics constructs gender in the first part of Scott s claim
seems logical. In order to understand why it is important for historians to be attentive to the idea that
politics constructs gender it must be demonstrated what Joan Scott meant by this claim. All
relationships can be defined by their respective balance of power. There is either an equal balance of
power or there is an unequal balance of power. Relationships that have an unequal balance of power,
as Joan Scott defines, involve politics. It can be generalized that in order to maintain power those with
influence create rules or perform actions that seek to sustain their authority. The rules and actions do
not have to be formal and include methods such as labeling individuals, biological groups, or socially
created groups such as gender. Over time, gender type has been associated, or labeled, with power by
those who have the power. As the balances of power change over time, the rules and actions towards

bright lightening. They looked up, frightened. Above them black furious clouds started to gather. They
began to run. Then the thunder roared, and the rain came down in torrents. I chose this passage

to the main point, which, throughout most of the story, was either Oganda to be sacrificed or the entire

portrayed this strong woman, who does not go against the ancestors´ words and is ready to die for the
tribe she is a part of. Her being willing to get sacrificed means that she had to say goodbye to her
future. It must be difficult for any young woman like her to watch her future slowly slip away and

Oganda seemed really to want. However, the ending can be interpreted very romantically, as Osinda

Kurt Schlichter s Rhetorical Analysis
Americans try to stay away from discussing politics and offending people. However, it is very
important to talk about all topics, in order to inform others and learn from each other. Everyone has a
right to voice their opinion, even if it is different than others. In the news outlets, it has been voiced
that certain people are thinking about running for president, Oprah Winfrey being one of them. Oprah
Winfrey has copious amounts of titles including talk show host, actress, and philanthropist, but
according to Kurt Schlichter, running for President of the United States would be a mistake. Kurt
Schlichter produces an interesting piece expressing how Oprah Winfrey is the best of the worst
Democratic candidates. He does this by his context, connecting to his target audience, his credibility
and reliability, and his style. Kurt Schlichter adequately persuades the target audience of Republicans
that this is indeed true. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Marxist Criticism In David Fincher s Fight Club
Fight Club is the kind of movie that you would expect to stay on screen. But it doesn t. Many parts of
fight club are actually part of Marxism, a system of thought developed by Karl Marx. Certain scenes
connect strongly with Marxism, albeit imperfectly. In Fight Club, directed by David Fincher, the
Marxist thought of excess being a sin is portrayed through Jack s two locations of residence, Jack s
initial defense of his possessions, and the scene of Jack and Tyler making soap from human fat. Jack
initially lives a very average life. His job and life is so average that anybody can relate to him. His
apartment is decorated almost exclusively with items from the Ikea catalogue. He tells us that he has

He stole human fat and used it to make soap and sell it to department stores for twenty dollars per bar.
The narrator sees irony in this profit: We were selling rich women their own fat asses back to them .
This clever scheme presents the fraudulent nature of a consumer society. Often, consumers are
convinced they are buying something different than the object; they unconsciously seek to purchase
their ideal selves Even though liposuction merely changes appearance, it is solely artificial. Soap
represents the artificiality of society and its ability to wash away humanity. Consumers become so
engrossed with the spectacle of commodities that they lose their humanity, trading it for possessions.
The soap made by the Paper Street Soap Company is made of the excess of the bourgeoisie. Marla
asks to store a bag of fat in his freezer because she wanted a collagen trust fund: The best kind of
collagen is your own fat, sucked out of your thighs, processed and cleaned and injected back into your
lips. This stuff in the fridge at home, it was Marla s collagen trust fund. The fat comes from her
mother, someone who can afford to do this. Only a member of the bourgeoisie would engage in such
an activity, because only a member of the bourgeoisie would afford to be able to do so. Tyler/the
narrator scavenge through medical waste dumps to find more bags of human fat which they can turn
into soap. The creation of the soap is made from the excess of the bourgeoisie. The bourgeoisie in this
aspect is reabsorbing their own excess and practicing excess at the same time, by paying twenty
dollars for soap. In turn, he sells the soap to Nordstrom s at twenty dollars per bar, an exorbitant price
for something so basic that only a member of the bourgeoisie could afford to pay. To make matters
more ironic, customers say that it is the best soap

Civilized Society In Brave New World
In the novels Brave New World by Aldous Huxley and The Dispossessed by Ursula K. Le Guin, the
authors depict their versions of a civilized world. In both worlds, society allows [its people] to enjoy
so called rights and deprive [them] of others (Biddle 2012). Similarly, both authors introduce an
outsider to each of the collective societies. In Brave New World, the main protagonist, John, is the
outsider from the Savage Reservation being brought into the civilized World State. In the same way,
Le Guin introduces Shevek as the outsider being brought into the planet Urras. Additionally, John and
Shevek both share a common goal, which is to change the civilized societies. Although they share this
goal, they plan on doing it in different ways. However, both John and Shevek are unsuccessful in
achieving their goal. Thus, the authors criticize that even in a civilized society, the collective is much
stronger than the individual and is therefore not capable of change.
First of all, in Brave New World, John is the ultimate outsider to civilization because he is a hybrid
between the two societies that are presented in the novel, thus making him an individual. His ... Show

The Roles Of Auditing And Assurance Services
Introduction
The role accounting firms played in the last financial crisis raised questions about the legitimacy of
auditing and assurance services. Auditors, who are considered independent and are supposed to
provide reliable information to financial statement users, played a major part in the financial
institutions crisis. The role of auditing is not to stop management from making poor business
decisions, but it is to make sure that those decisions are properly disclosed (Rapoport, 2010).
However, auditors failed to fulfill that role while auditing some of the largest financial institutions,
which led to a huge financial meltdown during the first decade of the 21st Century. As a result of the
financial crisis, questions regarding the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, it is important to assure a greater independence and objectivity that offset the cost of

auditors allowed Lehman Brothers to use the off balance sheet financing method to hide its leverage.
Ernest Young helped Lehman Brothers, a company they audited for many years, to mislead investors
about the company s financial position which eventually led to its collapse.
Audit Deficiencies
External auditors could have prevented the collapse of large financial institutions by being more
skeptical and exercising professional due care while servicing their clients. In many cases, auditors
failed to obtain sufficient evidence supporting key assumption of management asset valuations, asset
ownerships or the use of accounting estimates. Ernst Young failed to exercise professional due care
while auditing Lehman Brothers.
Lehman Brothers used Repo 105 transactions that a British law firm approved for them to make its
balance sheet look better and Ernst Young agreed to the accounting management applied to these
transactions without actually examining any of the Repo 105 transactions. According to Tracy Coenen
(2010), Ernst and Young didn t even check the impact of these transactions on Lehman financial
statements, whether they are material to their balance sheet and therefore did

Origins of the Apple Computer Company Essay
Did you know that the Apple computer started in someone s garage? Many people do not know how it
all started. Today, Apple Computer Incorporated, formerly known as Apple Computer Company,
dominates the technological industry with Mac, iPod, and iPhone sales. Apple had its best ever
quarterly revenue of $1.58 billion dollars in 2008 ( Best Quarterly Revenue n.pag.). The brilliant
minds of Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs led to the inventions of the Apple I and Apple II computers,
which revolutionized the computer industry of the 1970s and 1980s.

workers. He acquired computer chips from these workers that he would not have been able to get
otherwise. Telnet was not successful at selling its computer, so it closed in 1970 (Kendall 17).
However, his love and dedication towards computers would lead to the development of the first Apple
computer. In 1971, Steve and his friend Bill Hernandez designed a pretty good computer and his
mother was impressed. She contacted a local newspaper company to do a report on it. They were very
excited to explain the operation and specs to the reporter, but that is not how it happened. When the
reporter came to see the computer, they started the computer up and the blinking lights came on. After
that, someone stepped on the power cord, which caused the computer to start smoking, and then
stopped working. The reporter quickly left and only wrote a small article on their computer (Kendall

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
Key success factors are variables that can significantly affect the overall competitive positions of

be successful, an airline must be effective in four general areas: 1) attracting customers; 2) managing
its fleet; 3) managing its people, and 4) managing its finances.
Attracting customers
One of the biggest challenge in the airline industry is to attract customers. There are so many domestic

to Columbus, Ohio, when the plane turned back to the gate unexpectedly. The flight attendant
approached Uhle and asked her to get off the plane. Uhle learned from her husband that her son, who

They had booked her on a direct flight to Denver that was leaving in the next two hours, and the
airline did not charge Uhle any additional fees or service charges for the flight. Stories like that are
pretty common when it comes to Southwest, and that made them very appreciated by its customers.

Keeping Your Dog Healthy Essay
Many people believe when they purchase a dog all it needs is food and water and vaccinations really
aren t that important. Almost all pets need vaccinations that are crucial to their wellbeing. The price of
keeping pets healthy are quite high which is one reason why most owners refuse to get their pets
vaccinated, but the cost for vaccinations are nowhere near as expensive as the cost of treatment it
takes to get a sick pet well again
There are five vaccinations dogs need every year, Rabies, DAPP, Lyme, Bordetella, and Lepto. During

As of right now there are no tests that directly respond to the rabies virus but the fluorescent antibody
test is the most accurate at helping diagnosing this deadly virus. Unfortunately, there is not cure or
treatment for the rabies virus. Once your pet has been infected, if not vaccinated before hand, the only
option other than euthanasia is for the pet to be isolated and observed for 6 months and hope they
survive.
The DAPP (Distemper/Parvo) vaccination protects your dog from contracting the Parvovirus which
usually houses in the intestinal tract. The parvovirus can be transmitted by contact with an infected
dog, or even contact with infected feces, and infected feces can remain active in the ground for five to
seven months. The Parvovirus attacks the intestinal structure of the dogs organs and can lead to a
massive loss of proteins, blood and fluids usually the dog will become sick, losing its appetite,
vomiting, and having bloody diarrhea which will result in the pet becoming very lethargic. It usually
takes three to seven days for symptoms to show after being infected with the Parvovirus. The
Parvovirus can be treated if caught in its early stages having a survival rate of eighty five percent or

Analytics As A Service Of Delivering The Insights Based On...
4. Analytics as a service(AaaS) Analytics as a Service is a service of delivering the insights based on
your own data, focusing exclusively on business value and opportunities.[5] 4.1 Role of Decision
making and Data Insights Decision making no longer the preserve of middle managers or business
analysts occurs throughout the business, from boardroom to front office.[6] Enterprises need to be
able to quickly respond to an ever changing world in order to stay competitive. A constantly changing
world requires a constant flow of decisions where even postponing a decision is a decision in itself.
Hence, the value of analytics is not to be interpreted as merely a set of features in a tool; it is more of a
set of principles for improving the process of your decision making. , states Capgemini author Anders
Bresell. Fig. 2 Factors of Decision making for Data insight The 3 most important factors in decision

Summary Of The Fatal Environment By Richard Slotkin
This painting shows a Native American tribe on a snowy hill. They are watching a train pass by
diagonally below them. The party appears to be travelling somewhere together. Several of the
individuals are horseback riding while the others are walking. It´s looks like they are fleeing from
something, almost as these people are vanishing away from reality. This Trail of Tears that they are
riding/walking on was the the path that displaced North American Indian tribes from their land east of
the Mississippi River to the Indian Territory, the area that later became Oklahoma. The term Trail of
Tears comes from a text that describes the movement of the Cherokee, Muscogee, Seminole,

Slotkin illustrates the emergence by 1890 of a myth that was redefined to help Americans answer the
misperception and conflict of the industrialization and grand extension. In The Fatal Environment,
Richard Slotkin proves in what way the myth of frontier growth and defeat of the Native Americans
helped to validate the progression of Americas final stand as a symbol for whatever Americans feared
might occurred if the frontier were to be closed, and the violent part be allowable to rule the civilized,
Slotkin displays the rise by 1890 of a fable redefined to support Americans answer to the
misunderstanding and contention of industrialization and grand extension.
Sweeney is comparing The Fatal Environment to The Morning of a New Day.
He argues that the reason why Farny s Morning of a New Day attract few imitators is because of the
ambivalent image of the fatal environment within it. The fact that it represents the genocide of the
Native American tribes was the result the dominant bourgeois group s belief in its self proclaimed
manifest destiny to take the West from the Native Americans by military conquest, through
technological and entrepreneurial superiority, or if necessary by outright theft. (Page 141)

  • 6. Essay on Jesse Cleveland Owens James Cleveland Owens otherwise known as Jesse was an Olympic long jumper and sprinter whose speed and inspirational defiance of Hitler shocked the world. The 1936 Olympics were held in Berlin and Adolf Hitler of the Nazi party believed that these Olympic Games would showcase the great skill of the Aryan (Caucasian) race, and the last person he would expect to show him up would be an African American man (Barnes 1). With sixty six U.S. Olympic contestants competing in the Games, the American race was really put on the spot in front of Hitler, the most powerful man in the world (Smith 1). Jesse Owens was one of these men, and while being laughed at by Hitler during his one hundred meter sprint against six other Caucasian sprinters, he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He argued that the Olympic ideal was to be a time out from war and above politics (Smith 4). Owens was an underprivileged African American boy that grew up in the south during the early nineteen hundreds, his chances of making the Olympics were far out of his reach. He was born in Oakville, Alabama and was the youngest in the family with six brothers and three sisters (Barnes 1). At the age of nine Owens family moved to Columbus Ohio because of the bad economy and segregation that was prominent in the south. When Jesse was five he had developed a life threatening tumor on his chest, but because of his families overwhelming poverty he never received proper medical care (McCoy 1). However according to McCoy (1), One day Jesse woke up to his mother Mary standing over him with a sterilized knife and boiling water. She cut the tumor off her baby boy, causing him to bleed for three days. Fortunately, he survived the amateur surgery. Surprisingly this surgery performed by his mother was successful and Owens never had issues with the tumor or the surgery at any time in his life. As a kid Jesse was very shy and it was because of this shyness he possessed that he is called Jesse Owens today. According to Smith (3), When his new teacher asked ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Essay about The Heroic Nora Helmer in Henrik Ibsen s A... The Heroic Nora Helmer in Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s House What does it mean to be a hero? According to Webster, a hero is someone of great strength [and] courage who is admired for his or her courage and nobility. 1 Stretching this definition a bit further, I would argue that a hero is someone who uses this strength, courage, and nobility to help or save others. Nora Helmer, in Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s House, leaves her husband and family at the end of the play a move that can be viewed as either very selfish or very heroic. Because Nora uses her strength and courage in effort to save others and herself from the false doll s house life they are living in, her final act of leaving home is truly heroic. Nora saves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This can be seen when she calls her youngest child her sweet little baby doll, and later when she reassures her children that the doggies wouldn t bite [her] pretty little dollies (22).2 Nora seems to be overlooking the fact that these little, doll like figures are real people that she is responsible for. In this same scene, Nora plays hide and seek, laughing and shrieking, with her kids (23). As the argument that Nora is being selfish states, she is her children s playmate. Yet, shouldn t a mother be more than just a fellow playmate? A mother has a responsibility to teach and train her children, not just play with them. This scene is the only time we see direct interaction between Nora and her kids; it suggests that being a playmate or else using them as her play toys, are two of the only ways Nora knows how to be a mother. Nora herself admits to Torvald, in their final confrontation, that the children have been my dolls who thought it was fun when I went and played with them (81). Later in the play, after this first scene with her children, when Nora is talking to Anne Marie, we can see that she is making efforts to ensure that her children will be cared for if even if she is not there to raise them. Anne Marie is the only mother Nora has ever had and, as Nora says, she was a good mother to [Nora] when [she] was little (36). Nora goes on to say, And if my little ones only had ... • 8. Titanic Essay Titanic Essay Many people across the world watch films. It is so popular because it puts a story on the screen and into life so that people can see it. People watch films for the entertainment value, or are simply too lazy to read and enjoy the magic of a book. The advantages of watching a film at the cinema rather than on video is the bigger screen, and the surround sound, also the atmosphere. This all adds up and creates a bigger impact than a video. People make films to tell a story or get a message across, such as Pearl Harbour, which tells us the story of a real historical event through the eyes of a fictional love story, very much like Titanic. They also use Sound Effect to make what is happening sound more real, such as an explosion or band. They also use backing tracks, which can be used to emphasise the emotion a character is feeling. For example, if it was sad, they might use a love song. They use costume to show you what time something was set it, or the class of the people, particularly shown in Titanic, as Jack is very poor and Rose is rich. The characters who wear the costumes are also very important. They have to look the part and sound the part, not just be able to read the lines. They have to act the way a person of that time would. For my GCSE coursework, I will be writing a Media essay on Titanic, which was directed by James Caremon. It was made in 1997, and was the most expensive film made at the time. There is no amount of human strength, shiny armor nor treasured sword that can always prevent the inevitable. Any character in literature that is being portrayed immortal is fiction. Beowulf as often as not regards himself as the one who can conquer all. Beowulf like others is ignorant towards his own mortality. Even though, Beowulf is successful in his earliest battles he still remains careless to the understanding that he will die. Hrothgar is one who tries to understand a man s mortality. He informs Beowulf that he should learn true values and he has wintered into wisdom . (Beowulf,1722 1724). He alerts Beowulf to the notion that one day he will die. Hrothgar tells Beowulf that no amount of treasure or victories can gain a man s immortality. Beowulf is advised to not act as Heremod once did. Heremod s rule only brought death and destruction to the Danish people. (Beowulf,1712 1713). He killed his fellow comrades and vented rage on any who wrong him. (Beowulf,1713 1715). Hrothgar does not want Beowulf to be absent minded and ignore the shape of things to come. (Beowulf,1752). It appears that Hrothgar wants Beowulf to be cautious of his actions. He tells Beowulf to choose eternal rewards and not give way to pride. (Beowulf,1760). • 10. Writing By Omission By John Mcphee Summary Try Greening That The first article listed to read was Writing by Omission by John McPhee, which I found to be an interesting lens to inspect the three pieces from the The Globe and Mail we chose to read. Out of the four readings of the week, Writing by Omission was by far the most insightful. McPhee uses his own tribulations as a writer in the industry to illustrate his notion that writing is selection. Every word, paragraph, and chapter must be selected amongst a great arc of potentialities available to the writer, and it is the author s grand task to carefully choose the most appropriate next piece. McPhee recounts his time trying to select the best words to be left behind from his manuscripts and what should be restored and what shouldn t be. The idea of greening a paper comes from his work at Time, where the articles had to fit a specified number of lines. The authors were told to Green 5, and had no choice but to comply by removing five entire lines from their work. The practice, McPhee argues, forces the writer to make the most out of what they have and how making a piece tighter and more restricted enhances its appeal. • 11. The Characteristics And Stereotypes Of Latinos El Bandido Reports show that Latinos are the most underrepresented ethnic group in film affected by stereotypical issues shown via pictures in our heads and through watching. I concur with this information as stereotype starts from a personal level, which is definite through meditation, this does not include all the negative traits portrayed by the out group. Although we have some general stereotypical agreements within in groups that cannot change. This stereotyping is evident in a case where a foreigner defines Bandido accurately while a (North) American will involve them with laziness, being dirty and all sorts of negativity on them. These findings make me feel that Latinos and Americans will always be contrary to their film industry. The stereotype on Latinos el Bandido is based not only on ethnic but also behavioral, where they are deemed violent and antisocial, different nationality, as in not belonging to the North America and psychological where they are associated with alcoholic, prostitution and being unstable. With this stereotype, Hollywood is seen as a perfect example of the filmmaking and professionalism, in a way this demeans the Latinos effort in the film. Stereotypical images are in the cinematic register where they are intentionally included to make film sale and also to be critical in the narration process. Hollywood stereotyping Latino s poet is common in many films displaying poverty and crime as part of their livelihood. Moreover, they use standard films ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. The Pros And Cons Of Animal Cloning When the subject of cloning is brought up, many people expect to see an exact replica of a person, including the same age. However, there is much more to cloning than creating an identical person from the original. A clone is defined to be a cell or organism that is genetically indistinguishable to the original cell or organism from which it is acquired (Rogers, 2015). Cloning was introduced in 1903 by Herbert J. Webber, who was an American plant scientist and used cloning in reference to plants that had been assembled through asexual propagation by horticultural methods. Plants that are propagated asexually, whether from twigs or cuttings of other parts or from bulbs or buds, are exact genetic replicas of their parent plant (Rogers, 2015). In nature, cloning happens all the time. Thesis: There are many different topics to cloning other than the subject that began the idea of cloning. Over the years, the topics of human cloning and animal cloning have been discussed bringing debate on ethical issues and whether there are any advantages or disadvantages. Animal cloning is a process by which a complete organism is replicated from a single cell extracted from the parent organism and in a manner in which they are genetically the same (Cloning, 2017). Meaning, that the cloned animal is an exact copy of its parent; both contain the identical DNA (Cloning, 2017). The short story The Bear Came Over the Mountain and the movie Away from her are examples of two different ways of telling the same story trying to grasp the same ideas through different forms of media. The Jewish story can be summed up as a long journey from Egypt to Jerusalem. Beyond being geographic sites, Egypt and Jerusalem symbolize two opposite spiritual states. Justification by Faith JUSTIFICATION BY FAITH An Apologist View Professor John Markley BIBL 425 ROMANS BY KELLY RANDALL JUNE 2012 Introduction Dating to the writing of the book of Romans there has been a basic misunderstanding as to what Paul meant by justification by faith. The Jewish culture had been educated in the law and yet the Gentile culture was being instructed that the law was death. The Jewish community was confused and aghast that God would justify sinners. Nonetheless that is exactly what Paul said God would do and he would do it based on the simple faith of the believer. Our early church fathers also struggled. Martin Luther and other reformers emphasized justification over salvation by works. In response the Catholic Church ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Other Words to Define Sometimes when we hear the word justification we find it accompanied by other ation words: sanctification, glorification, propitiation, regeneration and imputation. These words are from time to time used interchangeably. This can be confusing and needs to be clarified before continuing. Imputation is where credit has been given. It can also mean to lay responsibility on someone. With God, imputation is where He accounts righteousness to the believer. Sanctification is separate from justification. Justification is about one s position with God; sanctification is about one s spiritual condition. Propitiation is defined in Reformation tradition as the satisfaction of divine wrath upon sin . Regeneration is the creation of a new heart and new spirit. This change of heart and spirit is what allows us to live righteous lives. Glorification comes once we receive our heavenly reward. It is the completion of our salvation. Righteousness is another word that may be misunderstood. It involves our dealings and relations with others. When we behave in a righteous way, it is because we are consistent in every given circumstance in regards to others. God is our example of righteousness. He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. Even the devil cannot call into question that God is righteous in all his dealings. Wrath of God God s righteousness can also be seen in his wrath. The Islamic Insurgency Of Afghanistan Mullah Akhtar Mansour and the Rising Threat of Islamic Insurgency in Afghanistan War and conflict have raged in Southeast and Central Asia for centuries due to civil unrest and political instability. The rise of the Taliban and other militant insurgencies have escalated the dangers and unpredictability of an already unstable government in Afghanistan. The appointment of the new Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour could result in a dangerous liaison with ISIS. The agenda of these jihadist extremists is the take over the Afghan and Pakistan governments in favor of the more stringent Islamic ways of the Taliban. These groups, professing to do the work of God, are perpetrating a coarse and distorted interpretation of Islam and the Quran. Insurgents have committed violent acts including the killing of police, military personnel, assassinations of political figures, and suicide bombings (Ghufran, 2009, pg 44). Due to the dangerous capabilities of the Taliban combining with the organizational competence of ISIS, the United States coalition forces must be cautious about leaving too quickly from Afghanistan, which will also affect Pakistan. All three of these presentations involved the different perspectives that can take place in education, particularly in Great Britain and how these minority groups are currently viewed as inferior within Great Britain. Baroness Glenys Thornton took a larger sociological approach toward the underrepresentation of minorities. Her presentation was based on the diversity of the members of the British parliament as well as the diversity of the other portions of the British government. She stated that minority groups are underrepresented by a margin of about three percent of the current population in the British parliament. Clifford Harding took a more individualized approach to this issue. Clifford didn t really grow up in the best living conditions, and he was involved in some questionable things such as drugs. He said that was often told that he was dumb and stupid when he was in school (mainly due to the fact that he was dyslexic) and that it would be safe to say that these taunts would discourage many people from continuing their education if they were faced with these messages. • 23. The Cultural And Socio Economic Context Different cultural groups show distinctive rates and experiences of the disorder, reflecting their different cultural and socio economic context. Gotlib Hammen, (2002) propose a noticeable and explicit pattern that seems to continuously emerge is that depression appears to occur much more in western cultures (US, Canada, UK, Holland) than in Asian (Japan, Taiwan, China) cultures. Such differences in rates of depression have been attributed to a number of factors such as differences in the amount of humiliation attached to depression (Asian cultures stigmatizing symptoms of depression more than Western cultures) and to different levels of social support (with Asian cultures have a much more sense of collectivist community and social support from family and peers in contrast to individualistic western cultures). However these findings are also subject to scrutiny as with many cross cultural research studies. Ethnocentrism is usually the criticism that emerges during these studies; for example, the issue of diagnosing/classifying one with depression may differ country to country. Behaviour deemed abnormal in one country may be deemed normal in another. In addition to this, language barriers are likely to intervene, and researchers are likely to misinterpret subjects they are studying if there is a culture clash. Such differences may therefore justify the variation in prevalence of depression as oppose to being a true reflection of cultural differences. Aside from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Our coach came down to the locker room with a giant speaker so we knew he was up to something. He told us all to sit down and listen. So we sat down and he started playing a song. He told us to put our heads down, close our eyes, and just imagine in our minds winning the game. We all thought he was crazy for thinking a song would change the way the game went. Historians, as Joan Scott states, must be aware the influence that politics and gender have on one another in order to create a complete, accurate history. The idea that historians should be aware that politics constructs gender in the first part of Scott s claim seems logical. In order to understand why it is important for historians to be attentive to the idea that politics constructs gender it must be demonstrated what Joan Scott meant by this claim. All relationships can be defined by their respective balance of power. There is either an equal balance of power or there is an unequal balance of power. Relationships that have an unequal balance of power, as Joan Scott defines, involve politics. It can be generalized that in order to maintain power those with influence create rules or perform actions that seek to sustain their authority. The rules and actions do not have to be formal and include methods such as labeling individuals, biological groups, or socially created groups such as gender. In both worlds, society allows [its people] to enjoy so called rights and deprive [them] of others (Biddle 2012). Similarly, both authors introduce an outsider to each of the collective societies. In Brave New World, the main protagonist, John, is the outsider from the Savage Reservation being brought into the civilized World State.
