This document summarizes research that used the Taguchi method to optimize the operating parameters of a direct evaporative cooling system that uses Khus (Vetiver) as the cooling pad material. The researchers investigated two parameters - air velocity and water flow rate. They conducted experiments using an L9 orthogonal array with three levels for each parameter. The response analyzed was the relative humidity achieved. Their results found that an air velocity of 1.0 m/s and water flow of 3.32 ×10-5 m3/min provided the optimal humidity of 69.8% for the Khus cooling pad material. The document also reviewed previous literature on experimental and theoretical performance analyses of different evaporative cooling pad materials and configurations.
