Queensland Rail [20] specified the cross-
sectional dimension of alternative railway
sleepers. width (W) 225–255 , depth (D) at
rail-seat is between 110 and 125 mm.
Therefore, a lower bound section of 230 mm
(W) × 115 mm (D) was selected from the
economic viewpoint. The length of the
sleeper can vary between 2125 and 2175
mm and considered 2130 mm
current price of each timber sleeper is approximately AU$80 while the timber replacement alternative
sleeper can go up to AU$160 (final product cost) indicated by Queensland Rail.
