Compare and Assess the Three Alternative Theoretical...
The topic of war and peace has become an increasingly important area concerning international
relations over the past decade. Wars varying from Russia s invasion of Georgia, to the United States
involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan placed war on top of international politics agenda. These wars,
along with all other wars, are started for various reasons, which different international relations
theories try to identify. Theories such as realism or institutionalism may have severely different views
on identical cases, and while all theories usually have some degree of merit, opposing theories will
find discrepancies in the views of one another s theories. In international relations, it is important to
comprehend the complexities of each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A liberal, someone who subscribes to the state society approach, would argue that, liberal theory
provides a plausible theoretical explanation for variation in the substantive content of foreign policy.
In other words, while realism and institutionalism may focus on the formal causes of conflict and
cooperation, such as military power; the state society approach explains state s behavior with regard to
certain contexts more appropriately. For example, why should the US worry about a limited number of
nuclear weapons possessed by North Korea, while countries like Great Britain and France own much
larger stockpiles of nuclear weapons? According to realist theory, states are wary of long term treaties
with other states, and therefore the United States should be worried about those countries that pose a
greater potential threat. As modern politics have shown, this is, of course, not the case. States perceive
threats not in the most potentially dangerous, but in the enemy most likely to provoke war. It is also
important to note, that during the course of history, states change whom they believe to be perceived
threats, another fundamental flaw with both realism and institutionalism. Realism contributes, no
theoretical importance, (p. 535) to the advancement of economic development in international politics,
while a liberal would argue that the economic nature of a state has a direct affect on state behavior.

Rise Of The Armenian Genocide
In 1915, officials of the Turkish government commenced an ambition to eradicate the Armenian
people residing in the Ottoman Empire. Ultimately, the genocide slaughtered approximately 1.5
million of the 2 million Armenians in the Ottoman Empire at the time and displaced hundreds of
thousands more upon its end. To date, the atrocities staining the Turkish deserts have still not been
recognized at the international level.
The plight of the Armenians originated centuries ago in the mountains of the Caucasus. At the peak of
the 4th century, the kingdom of Armenia declared Christianity its official religion, but was annexed by
the Muslim Ottoman Empire in the 15th century. The rulers granted religious minorities to perpetuate
some liberty and self government,

Descartes Proof Of The Existence Of God
One of the most important ideas upon which Descartes s proof of the existence of God rests is that
rational minds face constraints. While God is the absolute infinite, humans and other beings exist with
limitations on their actions. One of these limitations is human intellect, which Descartes names as one
component of the cause of our tendency toward error as humans. The finite nature of human intellect,
he argues, combines with an infinite will which causes us to seek an understanding of phenomena
beyond our intellectual limitations. This is where humans make errors, according to Descartes.
Although he argues that intellect is constrained in the face of free will, the presentation of intellect as a
static limitation seems to fall short. Rather, it makes more sense to advance the idea of intellect as a
dynamic concept which, although limited, is capable of advancing toward a greater, more accurate
understanding of the mind and world. In his Fourth Meditation, Descartes aims to achieve a distinction
between truth and falsity and, more particularly, what leads to human error and thus results in false
understandings. In doing so, Descartes notes that humans make mistakes which is, of course,
unarguably true. Very briefly, the idea of a demon deceiver God is contemplated, but ruled out due to
the quality of deceiving being an imperfection. This rejection allows for a discussion of how humans
exist relative to a God that embodies the absolute infinite. In this discussion,

Poverty, A, And Education System, Police Brutality, Drugs...
Poverty, a faulty and inadequate education system, police brutality, drugs and violence are a few of the
issues that plague the community that raised me. At a very young age, I was exposed to all these social
issues and they have shaped and influenced who I am today. Being a victim to these issues, growing
up was not easy, but I always hoped that I could make a change. As a young Mexican American
woman, daughter of immigrant parents and victim to numerous social issues complicating my ability
to succeed, I was never sure how I would ever be able to accomplish anything, all I knew is that I
wanted to change my community for the better and to liberate it from oppression. Although I always
dreamed of making huge changes in community, I never knew how I would ever be able to change it
for the better.
Encouraged by my English teacher, one of the few teachers to ever talk to me about furthering my
education, I decided to apply to college during the fall of my senior year. I was reluctant to apply at
first because I was never able to envision myself being able to pursue a college education, as a high
school diploma was the highest educational level any of my family members ever obtained.
Throughout my entire life and time in school, I had never received any guidance on pursuing higher
education. In fact, I was completely unaware of the steps I needed to take to further my education.
Both my parents dropped out of school before the sixth grade, thus they could not provide any

70.
There are a few reasons why this view struggles to adequately explain the prophecy of the seventy
weeks. The actual time span of the week varies between the time periods. If God was trying to reveal
anything to Daniel about when these things would take place than a good assumption would be that
the weeks would be similar in scope of time. Another issue that would have to be addressed by
proponents of this view is how the first advent of Christ solves everything that is to take place in verse
24 of Daniel 9. The last thing that needs to be answered is why does the destruction of Jerusalem take
place before the sixty nine weeks if it is clearly lined out in the prophecy to be after the sixty nine
weeks? (verse 26)
The Covenantal View
The covenantal view is a view that also holds that the time periods are symbolic. This view also
begins at the decree given by Cyrus in Ezra 1 after the 70 year captivity around 538 B.C. It has sixty
nine weeks from that date leading up to the death of Christ around 33 A.D. at which point the
seventieth week kicks off and continues until the apocalypse. This view has serious issues with the
periods of time not being equal. The last week for instance has lasted for the previous 2000 years and
is continuing through the present time. The sixty nine weeks from the decree of Cyrus to the death of
Christ equal about eight years per week. The strength of this view is that it is trying to

Introduction
Using a Lewis base neutral molecule to donate electron pairs (ligands) to a Lewis acid metal ion
center to form a single cluster (complex) ion. When the complex ions forms with a metal ion
(chelation) the ligand used is called the (chelating agent). EDTA acts as a great chelating agent due to
the Nitrogen and Oxygen donating an electron pair to the metal ion center to form an octahedral
complex. The metal ions especially with a +2 charge or higher are the reason for water hardness to
form on various objects known as scum . Calcium ions are typically the most common contributing

Chapter 4 is also used for titration of redox reactions using a standard solution (Na2 EDTA) to add
into another solution of unknown concentration (unknown sample + ammonia/ammonium chloride
buffer + Eriochrome Black T) until the equivalence point is reached (has fully reacted) as visually
identified by the indicators (Eriochrome Black T) from the color change of pink to violet to blue.
Procedure
1. Prepare about 500mL of approximately 0.004M disodium EDTA solution. To prepare your solution,
weigh out 0.7 0.8g of Na2EDTA and dissolve in about 500mL deionized water in your plastic bottle.
Seal the bottle and shake vigorously for a few minutes to dissolve the salt.
2. Standardize the Na2EDTA solution using a stock calcium ion solution as the primary standard:
a. Use a 10 mL transfer pipet to add 10.00 mL of standardized calcium ion stock solution (1.000g
CaCO3/L solution) to a 250 mL Erlenmeyer flask.
b. Add about 30 ml of deionized water to this titration flask.
c. Add a magnetic stir bar, place on a magnetic stirrer and begin stirring. A piece of white paper under
the flask gives good contrast for easier detection of the indicator color change.
d. Inside the fume hood, add about 3mL of ammonia/ammonium chloride buffer (pH 10). The buffer is
an inhalation irritant. Stir for 30 seconds.
e. Just prior to titrating the flask, add four drops of Eriochrome Black T indicator solution. Continue
stirring for another 30

Realism In Goodfellas
Considered one of the Top 25 films of all time, GoodFellas, a biographical crime film directed and co
written by Martin Scorsese follows the life of mob associate and FBI informant Henry Hill who is
played by actor, Ray Liotta. GoodFellas is a film adaptation of the 1986 non fiction book called
Wiseguy by Nicholas Pileggi. The film was subsequently released in 1990 after a few years of
formulating. Scorsese was never fascinated in making a mob film until he read Pileggi s book and was
drawn to the realism of the gangster lifestyle that was exposed. The realism of Henry Hill s life that is
publicized in the film is considered an essential element that makes it feel authentic. Scorsese s film
captures many fantastic cinematic elements that create ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
High and low angle shots can be a extremely effective technique if filmed correctly. Using these
techniques can create more dramatic, intense scenes that might not be as effective if using different
angle shots. Consider the scene where Karen lingers above Henry with a gun pointing at his head. This
is a good example of how low angle and high angle shots work alongside each other. For instance, in
the high angle shot of Karen, she is in the position of dominance. While the gun helps, the angle
shows Karen above Henry not only in a physical manner but visually as well. Because of the angle
Scorsese uses, Karen appears to have total dominance and control over the situation while reducing
Henry s power that he has established throughout the film. On the other hand, Henry is viewed from a
low angle shot with the gun pointed at his end. The position of the low camera angle shows Henry in a
helpless, defenseless manner with no clear positive outcome. The angle portrays Karen as a big,
overpowering presence as Henry is viewed as scared and vulnerable. Scorsese does a fantastic job
with manipulating angles and developing certain feelings from viewing these

Over Fat In Youth Sports
Over the years youth sports has grown into a major stepping stone for an athlete s career. Children are
playing competitive sports at earlier ages, but some kids are still facing problems with being
overweight or obese. I always believed overweight and obese to have the same meaning. Once the
words were defined they were shown to have different meanings. Overweight, is defined as weight
over and above what is required or allowed. (Meriam Webster) Following the definition of obese
meaning, very fat: fat in a way that is unhealthy. (Meriam Webster) According to the article 1 in 3

Concise Diction In Hills Like White Elephants By Ernest...
In Hills Like White Elephants, Ernest Hemingway uses controlled concise diction to develop a tension
filled tone, which characterizes the woman as a pushover to the man, revealing how society gives in to
lust, blinding them from the love they desire.
Through the precise use of diction between the woman ( jig ) and the man, Hemingway reveals how a
lack of knowing someone can lead to emotional dismay. Concise diction in a relationship means,
conversation only scratches the surface and the two lovers don t truly know about the other person s
emotions. The story is full of short, one line phrases of conversation between the couple about trivial
things. They converse about the lovely hills and the simple operation, yet they never ask each other
about their feelings. The lack of in depth communication of opinions creates a tension filled
atmosphere that just keeps building up and up as the story continues. The simple operation, an
abortion, is seen by the couple as the issue they need to resolve, however, the man, who can t handle
the responsibility, instead of talking it through with his lover chooses to manipulate her. He tries to
convince jig, who is easily pushed over as she is stuck by lust and will do anything to keep the
relationship together. She doesn t care to sacrifice her happiness for his, rather she fears that if she
doesn t go through with the operation, he will leave her, she is indecisive and relies on the man to
make many decisions. The man deceives

Language Bias
1. When writing a research report, there are five main issues of language bias . They include but, are
not limited to, gender, age, sexuality, ethnicity, and disabilities. Gender is language bias, as it is a
cultural term referring to social roles, which may be perceived as offensive. For example, referring to
a female firefighter as a fireman implies that the female is actually a male firefighter. To avoid this,
writers should ensure that they are using terms to avoid sexist bias. Next, age is language bias as a
writer might think that someone is elderly because they are 50 but in reality, it is not accurate to call
someone elderly until they are 65 or older. Those that are 50 could find this offensive. Thus to avoid
this, a writer should always include an age range or refer to the APA manual when placing people into
age categories. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When talking about sexuality, writers should use words like sexual orientation, as it is not implying
the person chose a certain sexuality. For example, an author should not write about how being a gay
man is a sexual preference, as it seems like it was his choice. More so, ethnicity is also language bias.
It is best to refer to the geographic locations one is from, as ethnic labels can be offensive or harmful.
Writers can avoid using slang language by aiming to identify persons by nation of origin. Lastly,
language objectifying a person s condition or disability is language bias. Language including negative
labels, or slurs should not be used, as they are harmful and offensive. If one needs to write about a
condition, it is advised they place focus on the individual and not the disability. For example, if they
are writing about dyslexia, they could state, persons with dyslexia find it frustrating to do group work

Kill A Mockingbird By Harper Lee Essay
The way that people understand their circumstances and surroundings is often directly correlated to
the way they perceive the world around them. An adult understands much more around him than a
child does because of the mature, more knowledgeable perception he has. Meanwhile, the child, while
not able to fully understand what she sees, often sees more than an adult because of the knowledge
hungry, curious perception she has. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird, the characters range in gender,
age, and intelligence. The narrator herself is a young elementary age child. She is extremely smart for
her age, but because of her limited exposure to the world, does not fully understand the seriousness
and danger of the story unfolding around her. While the book To Kill a Mockingbird covers many
controversial topics, perception and the change certain characters undergo that effects this perception
are the key to connecting many of them. One of the main characters in Too Kill a Mockingbird is Jem.
He is Scout s older brother. As the story is told, he ages, transitioning from a young boy into a
teenager. His perception of the world around him changes vastly as he ages, leaving curiosity behind
for a better understanding. At the beginning of the story, the reader is introduced to the unseen
character of Boo Radley. According to the adults around town, he is a recluse who never leaves his
home. However, Jem, Scout, and their friend Dill see him in a different light. Jem

Filial Piety In Confucianism In Ancient China
Filial Piety in Confucianism A famous Chinese saying asks, if one does not have piety towards one s
own parents, then how can one be loyal towards one s friends, country, or any other? In ancient China
Confucius taught filial piety as, the reverent respect of children toward their parents. (Ebrey,
Cambridge Illustrated History, p. 43) Confucius taught that duty to one s parents is an integral part of
society because it fit into the larger ethical system that he believed in. As the saying says, how can one
is not loyal to ones parents, how can they be loyal to anything else. Fillial piety was important in
Confucius time because he emphasized its utility in teaching people how to act and behave towards

Video Games Help Children With Special Educational Needs
This paper explains how video games help children with special educational needs, should children
have certain technologies (I.e. phones, tablets, etc.) readily available, and what children enjoy about
playing video games. [METHODS?] The findings from this research are that children s fascination in
video games, whether with typical development or not, mainly involves the thrill of challenges and the
feeling of achievement when winning. When playing video games, children do learn alternate ways to
solve problems. Children who play video games may think and learn differently than those who do not
play. Those who tend to cheat in a video games may also do the same when academics are involved. A
child s academic ethics and effort seems to reflect when playing video games. In other words, children
who play a video game with minimal effort seem to give the same amount of effort when academics
are concerned. My conclusions include that technology is good for children with special educational
needs, it is helpful for young children in that it gives them the tools that they need for success (being
bilingual in the technological language), and that it helps children cognitively by finding new ways to
solve problems.
Technology s Impact on Childhood Development

Grade Students Knowledge Of Fractions
In forth grade students knowledge of fractions is expected to grow, just like in third grade, to a higher
level. After reading over this section I m starting to see a pattern happening. This pattern is that each
grade level begins to get harder and have more information for the students to learn. In fourth grade
students expand their knowledge on equivalent fractions, comparing fractions, relating fractions and
mixed numbers, adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominator, multiplying fractions by
whole numbers, interpreting decimals, and last comparing decimals. In the forth grade is important for
students to use a visual fraction model, to show how the number and size of parts differ, even though
the fractions themselves are the same size. One way to show this in the classroom is to have the
students write out the fraction such as 2/8, which can be thought of as ¼ if pairs of the original 8
sections were grouped together. The student would first draw eight connecting squares shading in the
first two. Then the student would draw four connecting squares and shade in just one. As you can see
¼ is the reduced fraction of 2/8, so we are just reducing the fraction and showing how it is the same.
Comparing fractions can be very difficult if the two fractions being compared have two different
denominators. There a few ways to help students in this grade learn how to distinguish between the
two and compare them. The first way, which is how I like to do this, is by

Superstitions In The Minister s Black Veil
In The Minister s Black Veil by Nathaniel Hawthorne, the author seeks to convey that although all
individuals are sinners, members of society will condemn those who seek to confront their own faults.
This conclusion was drawn from the many motifs which relate to Puritan society, particularly the
superstitions and Christian ideologies of many New Englanders during the 18th century. In this tale,
Mr. Hooper s donning of the black veil is viewed as a change which alters his countenance
indefinitely; from the moment it is introduced, those who view it are awestruck. The mere sight of Mr.
Hooper even acts as a signal for the bell to cease its summons . As murmurs spread throughout the
congregation, Mr. Hooper preaches of secret sin, and those

The Ability of Humans to Manipulate Dna Is a Mixed...
The ability of humans to manipulate DNA is a mixed blessing
Genetically modified organisms are made moving the DNA from one species to another. DNA
contains genes which code for proteins. For plants and bacteria; restriction enzymes are used to cut a
DNA segment from a desired gene source and a bacterium plasmid. They are joined using ligase
enzymes and inserted into the plant chromosome or host bacterium. For animals the recombinant DNA
is injected into an embryo and transferred to a recipient mother. The organisms will now express a
new protein. Proteins determine form and metabolism. Genetic engineering changes the natural DNA
of living things, cutting across species boundaries.

Marker genes used to see which cells took up the foreign DNA cause a problem with antibiotic
resistance. These markers are usually antibiotic resistant so cells with no foreign DNA can be killed by
antibiotic treatment.
Virulent genes with the ability to penetrate immune systems will inevitably increase the frequency of
horizontal gene transfers. Once genes can freely transfer between species, species start to lose their
distinguishing characteristics. Reducing biodiversity and costing us undiscovered natural miracles.
Research is ongoing in growing agricultural products directly in the laboratory. Food and fibre being
are grown in tissue culture in giant bacteria baths much cheaper than the price of growing them on the
land. The shift to indoor agriculture could herald the eventual end of the agricultural era. Millions of
farmers in both the developing and developed worlds would be uprooted from the land. Conversely
genetically engineered plants as chemical factories are slowly being released outside.
Controversial genetic modifications are also being done on animals. A combination of genetic
engineering and cloning is being used for the development of market animals modified for increased
growth and reduced fat. GE animals are being developed as factories for the production of
pharmaceuticals and as sources of organs for transplantation into humans. In order to overcome organ

Naval Warfare Changes
Naval warfare has been adapting and changing to the technology of the time all throughout the ages.
Since the very first battles in the Aegean Sea, between Greek galleys, to today s massive aircraft
carriers, destroyers, and submarines; each technological step has been taken to try to outdo the
opponent. One major step that naval warfare took was the transition from large numbers of muzzle
loading cannons on either side of the ship to turret guns. The transition from forty to fifty guns
cannons to twelve big guns at the most, had substantial impacts on several aspects of naval operations.
New changes in tactics had to be made to facilitate the use of only a few guns that could point only
one direction at a time. Maritime strategies had to be adjusted to compensate for the newer, bigger,
faster, and more power ships. Procedures had to be changed to make manning the guns a specific job,
but the biggest impact that the implementation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It enabled warships to locate enemy aircraft and ships at night, through clouds, and at great distances.
Improved gun directors were developed at about the same time. They tracked moving aircraft and
directed gunfire at them. Gun directors were used with proximity fuses. These fuses exploded a shell
as it neared its target and eliminated the need for a direct hit (Polmar).
Technology always has and always will adapt to the tools of the war at hand. The tool of war that
caused a significant amount of technology adaptation was the gun turret, which caused new steps to be
taken in the fields of radar, automation, and ammunition specialization. That is how the gun turret
impacted technology at sea. The changes in the tools of war have always caused several impacts on
war itself. In the case of gun turrets, tactics and technology had to make large changes in order to
compensate for the shift in power that it caused. That is how gun turrets impacted naval and maritime

Barry Bonds Use Of Anabolic Steroids In Major League Baseball
The Major League Baseball organization is one of many sport organizations that takes a strong stance
on athletes that use performance enhancing drugs. Mark McGwire played for the Cardinals in 1998.
He had an amazing career as he broke the homerun record with 70 homeruns. Through his
accomplishments, there was speculation that he took steroids. He was questioned about it in Federal
Court and at first, he denied it. Later on, he admitted using Andro, which is a form of anabolic
steroids. Another baseball player had a very similar story. Barry Bonds played for the San Francisco
Giants. He likewise had very notable achievements, such as beating McGuire for the homeroom
record and he passed Hank Aaron as the career all time home run hitter.

Essay on Technology Advancement and The Music Industry
Dust Off Your Vinyls, We re Going Back In Time
Music is a part of life for every culture and every generation. From just about the start of mankind we
have made music and with every technological advancement, we have evolved the way music is
heard, made, and distributed. Within the last couple decades I have witnessed the music industry
change drastically from cassette tapes to digital mp3s. What caused this dramatic evolution of music?
What are the effects on the industry itself, and the consumers like you?
Music has taken new forms many times in it s history. Not only in sound, but shape. According to Dr.
Tom McCort, who has a Ph. D and teaches at the University of Texas, the term album comes from the
78 rpm discs that only had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though this was a incredible new way to share music and was a non profit service, it brought up
legal issues with recording companies. The content exchanged was under copyright laws and was
being illegally shared. The sales of music were being threatened, and Napster was brought to court.
Napster wasn t in the safe zone of the law with sharing these files, because they were not considered
fair use, and was shut down. (Crews, 5)
In the article Music Industry Sales Rise, and Digital Music Revenue Gets the Credit, Eric Pfanner,
who is the London Bureau Chief of the International Herald Tribune, states that back in 1999 at the
peak of the music industry, sales were at $38 billion in revenue. Last year, the number was more that
half that at a low $16.5 billion. That may sound horrible, but it actually was the first time sales rose in
nearly two decades. (Pfanner, 1) But my question is why? What changed in the last year compared to
the last fifteen? Well, the concept of being able to get music directly from the internet to your
computer was not only convenient for consumers, but also the companies themselves. That is because
the delivery costs were minimized, not having to produce and send to stores. Since piracy was still a
very big problem, the industry frowned upon the idea of digital distribution at first. But the concept of

Mandatory Access Control
In computer security, Discretionary Access Control (DAC) is a type of access control in which a user
has complete control over all the programs it owns and executes, and also determines the permissions
other users have those those files and programs. Because DAC requires permissions to be assigned to
those who need access, DAC is commonly called described as a need to know access model.
In computer security, discretionary access control (DAC) is a type of access control defined by the
Trusted Computer System Evaluation Criteria[1] as a means of restricting access to objects based on
the identity of subjects and/or groups to which they belong. The controls are discretionary in the sense
that a subject with a certain access permission ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Early hardware based enforcement implementations of MAC such as Honeywell s SCOMP, USAF
SACDIN, NSA Blacker, and Boeing s MLS LAN focused on MLS to protect military oriented
security classification levels with robust enforcement. Originally, the term MAC denoted that the
access controls were not only guaranteed in principle, but in fact. Early security strategies[2] enabled
enforcement guarantees that were dependable in the face of national lab level attacks.
More recently, with the departure from strict hardware based enforcement the expectations of the term
mandatory has become more relaxed, migrating from mandating near absolute enforcement to
acceptance of best effort enforcement. While software based enforcement is more flexible, the security
technology has not yet produced a software based enforcement strategy that can enforce a policy with
near certainty. This is because it has been much more difficult to be certain about what a software
based system will never do compared to that of hardware based system. With software oriented

Pros and Cons of Single Sign On, and Kerberos and Its...
Pros and Cons of Single Sign On In single sign on, the user registers and authenticates with one site
and uses those credentials for identity with other sites (Pros and Cons to Single Sign In, 2009). For the
user, it lowers the barriers to participation of registering with sites without trusting them first and
reduces the number of credentials with having to remember all the usernames and passwords, making
it convenient. The downside for the user is if that one password is lost or forgotten, the user would
have to start over rebuilding and online identity, which can be time consuming (Chng, 2008). Single
sign on is also highly susceptible to phishing attacks. Enterprises that use single sign on may receive
more traffic to their websites by using third party vendors, but there are things that need to be
considered. The site does not see the user credentials with single sign on. They have to trust the third
party site. Without seeing the user email, the enterprise cannot leverage the registrations against
revenue streams of selling mailing lists to spam companies. The dependence on a third party vendor is
without a legal binding agreement, so if the third party shuts down, the enterprise can lose part of the
user base overnight. If the enterprise wishes to send email advertisements to the users, they could not
do that with single sign on because of not having access to the emails. With most enterprises being a
result of mergers with divergent systems, this could present

The Frivolity of Evil by Theodore Dalrymple Essay
The article The Frivolity of Evil by Theodore Dalrymple analyzes the causes of human misery. His
work as a psychiatrist in Great Britains slums afforded him a great vantage point to analyze this topic
nearer to the fundamental of human existence. He concluded that the citizens of Great Britian
willingly participated in precipitating their own misery. Their are three recurring theme in his article
the lack of moral responsibility, extreme individualism and lack of cultural expectations. Dalrymple
begins his article by showing the mind frame of a prisoner released from prison, who had the idea that
he had paid his debt to society. In order to get his point across Dalrymple compares the prisoners

He believed that this shift in thinking leads people to imply that dissatisfaction with life is itself

form of thinking stands in the way of people understanding their situation and impedes moral change.
The lack of moral responsibility was a recurring theme he observed in his patients. The patient who
claimed unhappiness had three different children by three different men. The fathers of the three
children lived a life of criminality and violence. Knowing this she still choose to enter into a
relationship with them regardless of the consequences. What is confounding is the lack of moral
responsibility the patients exhibit towards her children. Their is no punishment from the government
or society for the actions she makes. The idea of self interest is prominent is this articles. These
individuals base their decisions on their on self interest. They only have a responsibility to their own
happiness. Her actions are due to the fact that she did not want to remain alone. He mother based her
decisions to turn her daughter out based on the thought that her own sexual liaisons were more
important than caring for her child. The mother of the patient created a cycle of misery for her
daughter that, the daughter in turn will create for her own children.

Shadow Reflection
The student I chose to follow for a shadow study is a junior girl who has been very open in class about
expressing her opinion. The student is in my cooperating teacher s Basic Geometry class during
second block. I picked this particular student because my cooperating teacher told me a story about
how last year this student yelled at a substitute teacher while he was absent and walked out of class.
Also, I have seen how this student interacts with her peers in my cooperating teacher s classroom. I
found it interesting to see how the other teachers work with her. This will give me an insight on how
to structure the class when I teach. I also have this student s younger sister in Algebra I. She is a
freshman, and I never would have guessed that they were sisters until she told me. The schedule is a
block schedule, so each class is ninety minutes except seminar at the end of the day, which is thirty
minutes. Since seminar is a study hall, I decided not to shadow her during that class.
I attempted to shadow this student on a white day because she has my cooperating teacher s class. I
showed up to the student s first block on Tuesday. The teacher informed me that the student usually
shows up early to class, but neither of us had seen her. When the bell rang, I decided to stay and see if
she showed up. I was informed that she was marked absent. That day in Communications, the students
were to have a reading day, which means that the whole ninety minute class the students were to

Tiananmen Square Incident(1989)
The monstrous event that happened on June 4th, 1989 will be forever remembered as one of the most
tragic days in human history. However, many decades ago, this event was foreseen and was foretold in
the book, 1984, by George Orwell. Orwell saw the rise of totalitarianism, and he was deeply disturbed
by what he saw. He believes totalitarianism will be the method that communist party adopts to fight
freedom. The book foreshadows many of the events that will happen in a communist society. In many
ways, the incident of Tiananmen Square in 1989 echoes 1984, which is a warning that totalitarian

Major Sociological Theories
In sociology, there are three major theories. These theories are Structural Functionalism, Conflict
Theory and Symbolic Interaction. There are many people who have influenced all three of these
theories. Although not all of these theories are still used much now, the thoughts and views that
emerged from these theories are still referenced to this day. Ideas used in these theories helped shape
new theories and teach us a lot about understanding society and what shapes it. During my research
and readings I definitely gravitated towards Symbolic Interaction more so than Structural
Functionalism or Conflict Theory. Structural Functionalism is the thought that society is very complex

I definitely believe that humans place meanings on events and objects and different behaviors. I
myself, put meaning on everything in my life. The symbolic meaning placed on certain things gets
passed along to people in a society throughout time. Sometimes these symbols are negative, but have a
positive spin placed on them to make it appealing for the people in a society. An example of this is
smoking because everyone knows the health risks and they still choose to smoke because it is made to
look like a cool thing. During my research, I read that when it comes to race and gender, we as a
society place beliefs about a person just because of their looks. Symbolic Interaction is based on three
core principals being language, thought and meaning. Language allows communication between
people based on the symbols. Thought allows people to interpret these symbols. The meanings that
people place on certain things define how they will act toward others and is thought to be the central
aspect of human

The Heart Of The Lungs
The Lungs are a part of every living human and animal that exist today. The lungs are classified as one
of the hardest working organs in the body, besides the heart. They can expand and contract up to 20
times a minute or more to provide oxygen to be distributed to tissues in all parts of the body. They are
considered to be the largest organ in the body. Taking up over forty percent of the chest cavity. Due to
the size, we can only have two. The heart takes up the other space in the upper cavity. Each lung is
made up of a sponge like material of tissue. They have been divided up into sections called lobes. The
right lung has three lobes and the left lung only has two. These are called the superior, middle, and
inferior. The average size of the lungs is 11 in. in length. Most normal adult human s lungs are about
the same size. The normal lungs have an average weight of 234 grams or so. The weight depends a lot
on the health of the lung. The average pair of human lungs can hold about 5 liters of air.
Approximately, a healthy human can breathe up to 24480 times in a day. The lungs are red color
because it is smooth muscles. It is made of all muscle tissue. The job of my organ is to take oxygen
from the air and carbon dioxide is exchange. It does its job with the millions tiny grape likes cells that
are called alveoli, which allows oxygen to seep into the capillaries or the thin wall that air sacs where
carbon dioxide exchange take place.

Sterotyping in To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee Essay
Topic 1: Stereotyping. The novel, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is based on the experiences of
one girl, Scout, growing up in Maycomb, Alabama in the 1930s. The novel explains some conflicts in
Scout s life. Scout, the main character, learns that things are not always morally correct and is
confronted with the reality of prejudice and stereotyping. Scout struggles with understanding the
prejudice and stereotyping she witnesses. Atticus Finch, Scout s father, with his strongly held
convictions, wisdom, and empathy, Atticus functions as the novel s moral backbone. (2). Atticus tries
to raise his children to be fair and nonjudgmental. It is through the lessons of Atticus and Scout s

assumption the evil assumption that all Negro s lie, and that all Negros are basically immoral beings.
... I am confident that you gentlemen will review without passion the evidence you have heard, come
to a decision, and restore this defendant to his family. In the name of God, do your duty. (1).
Throughout this trial Scout not only witnesses prejudice and stereotyping, she becomes the victim of
several people throughout the book. When Scout arrives for her first day of school, she meets Miss
Caroline, a teacher from the north. Miss Caroline has predetermined thoughts as to how the class
should be taught and how the children should learn. When Scout tells the teacher she can read and
write, she is punished and told she should not learn outside of school and that she is too young to be
able to read and write. Scout was mad with Miss Caroline s refusal to accept any other teaching
method but her own. This shows how Scout was stereotyped because she was from rural Alabama and
the teacher stereotyped everyone to be dumber than herself. When Scout is verbally abused because

publicized by ham radio conversations. An industry that defied all odds to grow from the backyards of
techies and early adapters to today s multi billion dollar first line competitor to the cable monopoly in

How did the world find out about Taylor Howard s invention? Well, as an amateur radio operator, he
shared his knowledge with fellow hams around the world. This was backed up with a simple how to
manual on satellite TV published by Professor Howard. As the techies began to grasp the capabilities
of satellite TV, a small group of entrepreneurs moved from hobbyist to businessperson. These pioneers
many operating out of their garages gave birth to an industry which sold approximately 5,000 systems
in 1980. Each of these systems, boasting an antenna 12 feet or more in diameter, fetched a whopping
$10,000. The journey towards the DTH industry of today had begun. 1981 1985 Dish Fever Grows
The DTH industry grew quickly from its modest beginnings. As each new system was installed, the

now launching at a rapid pace) coupled with the unsurpassed audio and video quality offered by a
DTH system, the fever began to spread across the land. For satellite TV to move beyond the techies

Research Paper On The Great Wall Of China
The Great Wall of China Through Time
Introduction
The evolution of the Great Wall of China wasn t very short like many might think. It spanned from
221 BC 1912. The first dynasty (the Qin) were the people who came up with the idea of building the
wall in the first place. The Ming dynasty occurred many years later, but was the dynasty that modified
the old wall the most, making it the new one we know today. The last dynasty the Qing added many
more defensive advances on the wall than any other. Granted that all of these dynasties made great
individual changes or ideas, together they helped make the world s favorite wall.

The Manchus decided that the wall needed to be expanded even more, as well, that more defensive

was erected for its internal security, suppressing the domestic rebellions and uprisings. In addition,
some walls were built in Liaoning and Inner Mongolia for racial isolation, separating Han people with
the Manchu and Mongols, which is a historical retrogression. From 1638 1878 many rulers from the
Qing Dynasty came up with innovative ways of defence such as digging 9ft. Ditches around the base
of the wall, planting so many trees so that it becomes a barricade, and constructing watch towers on
top of the wall. This explains a quote by Travelchinaguide.com, First of all, the 9 feet (2.7 meters)
deep trench was dug, and the earth was removed to pile up a wall beside the trench, which was 3 feet
(1 meter) in width and height. Then, willow trees were planted every 6 feet (1.7 meters) on the wall.
Afterwards, the trees were bounded by strings, forming a barrier. The Willow Palisade was 808 miles
(1,300 kilometers) long. There were 20 gates, 168 terraces, hundreds of water passes along the
palisade. . Since the Qing dynasty was the latest one no other modifications have been made on the

  • 2. Compare and Assess the Three Alternative Theoretical... The topic of war and peace has become an increasingly important area concerning international relations over the past decade. Wars varying from Russia s invasion of Georgia, to the United States involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan placed war on top of international politics agenda. These wars, along with all other wars, are started for various reasons, which different international relations theories try to identify. Theories such as realism or institutionalism may have severely different views on identical cases, and while all theories usually have some degree of merit, opposing theories will find discrepancies in the views of one another s theories. In international relations, it is important to comprehend the complexities of each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A liberal, someone who subscribes to the state society approach, would argue that, liberal theory provides a plausible theoretical explanation for variation in the substantive content of foreign policy. In other words, while realism and institutionalism may focus on the formal causes of conflict and cooperation, such as military power; the state society approach explains state s behavior with regard to certain contexts more appropriately. For example, why should the US worry about a limited number of nuclear weapons possessed by North Korea, while countries like Great Britain and France own much larger stockpiles of nuclear weapons? According to realist theory, states are wary of long term treaties with other states, and therefore the United States should be worried about those countries that pose a greater potential threat. As modern politics have shown, this is, of course, not the case. States perceive threats not in the most potentially dangerous, but in the enemy most likely to provoke war. It is also important to note, that during the course of history, states change whom they believe to be perceived threats, another fundamental flaw with both realism and institutionalism. Realism contributes, no theoretical importance, (p. 535) to the advancement of economic development in international politics, while a liberal would argue that the economic nature of a state has a direct affect on state behavior. ... Ultimately, the genocide slaughtered approximately 1.5 million of the 2 million Armenians in the Ottoman Empire at the time and displaced hundreds of thousands more upon its end. To date, the atrocities staining the Turkish deserts have still not been recognized at the international level. The plight of the Armenians originated centuries ago in the mountains of the Caucasus. At the peak of the 4th century, the kingdom of Armenia declared Christianity its official religion, but was annexed by the Muslim Ottoman Empire in the 15th century. • 4. Descartes Proof Of The Existence Of God One of the most important ideas upon which Descartes s proof of the existence of God rests is that rational minds face constraints. While God is the absolute infinite, humans and other beings exist with limitations on their actions. One of these limitations is human intellect, which Descartes names as one component of the cause of our tendency toward error as humans. The finite nature of human intellect, he argues, combines with an infinite will which causes us to seek an understanding of phenomena beyond our intellectual limitations. This is where humans make errors, according to Descartes. Although he argues that intellect is constrained in the face of free will, the presentation of intellect as a static limitation seems to fall short. Rather, it makes more sense to advance the idea of intellect as a dynamic concept which, although limited, is capable of advancing toward a greater, more accurate understanding of the mind and world. In his Fourth Meditation, Descartes aims to achieve a distinction between truth and falsity and, more particularly, what leads to human error and thus results in false understandings. In doing so, Descartes notes that humans make mistakes which is, of course, unarguably true. Very briefly, the idea of a demon deceiver God is contemplated, but ruled out due to the quality of deceiving being an imperfection. This rejection allows for a discussion of how humans exist relative to a God that embodies the absolute infinite. In this discussion, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Poverty, A, And Education System, Police Brutality, Drugs... Poverty, a faulty and inadequate education system, police brutality, drugs and violence are a few of the issues that plague the community that raised me. At a very young age, I was exposed to all these social issues and they have shaped and influenced who I am today. Being a victim to these issues, growing up was not easy, but I always hoped that I could make a change. As a young Mexican American woman, daughter of immigrant parents and victim to numerous social issues complicating my ability to succeed, I was never sure how I would ever be able to accomplish anything, all I knew is that I wanted to change my community for the better and to liberate it from oppression. Although I always dreamed of making huge changes in community, I never knew how I would ever be able to change it for the better. Encouraged by my English teacher, one of the few teachers to ever talk to me about furthering my education, I decided to apply to college during the fall of my senior year. I was reluctant to apply at first because I was never able to envision myself being able to pursue a college education, as a high school diploma was the highest educational level any of my family members ever obtained. Throughout my entire life and time in school, I had never received any guidance on pursuing higher education. In fact, I was completely unaware of the steps I needed to take to further my education. Both my parents dropped out of school before the sixth grade, thus they could not provide any ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 70. There are a few reasons why this view struggles to adequately explain the prophecy of the seventy weeks. The actual time span of the week varies between the time periods. If God was trying to reveal anything to Daniel about when these things would take place than a good assumption would be that the weeks would be similar in scope of time. Another issue that would have to be addressed by proponents of this view is how the first advent of Christ solves everything that is to take place in verse 24 of Daniel 9. The last thing that needs to be answered is why does the destruction of Jerusalem take place before the sixty nine weeks if it is clearly lined out in the prophecy to be after the sixty nine weeks? (verse 26) The Covenantal View The covenantal view is a view that also holds that the time periods are symbolic. This view also begins at the decree given by Cyrus in Ezra 1 after the 70 year captivity around 538 B.C. It has sixty nine weeks from that date leading up to the death of Christ around 33 A.D. at which point the seventieth week kicks off and continues until the apocalypse. This view has serious issues with the periods of time not being equal. The last week for instance has lasted for the previous 2000 years and is continuing through the present time. The sixty nine weeks from the decree of Cyrus to the death of Christ equal about eight years per week. The strength of this view is that it is trying to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When the complex ions forms with a metal ion (chelation) the ligand used is called the (chelating agent). EDTA acts as a great chelating agent due to the Nitrogen and Oxygen donating an electron pair to the metal ion center to form an octahedral complex. Procedure 1. Prepare about 500mL of approximately 0.004M disodium EDTA solution. To prepare your solution, weigh out 0.7 0.8g of Na2EDTA and dissolve in about 500mL deionized water in your plastic bottle. Seal the bottle and shake vigorously for a few minutes to dissolve the salt. 2. Standardize the Na2EDTA solution using a stock calcium ion solution as the primary standard: a. Use a 10 mL transfer pipet to add 10.00 mL of standardized calcium ion stock solution (1.000g CaCO3/L solution) to a 250 mL Erlenmeyer flask. b. Add about 30 ml of deionized water to this titration flask. c. Add a magnetic stir bar, place on a magnetic stirrer and begin stirring. A piece of white paper under the flask gives good contrast for easier detection of the indicator color change. d. Inside the fume hood, add about 3mL of ammonia/ammonium chloride buffer (pH 10). Realism In Goodfellas Considered one of the Top 25 films of all time, GoodFellas, a biographical crime film directed and co written by Martin Scorsese follows the life of mob associate and FBI informant Henry Hill who is played by actor, Ray Liotta. GoodFellas is a film adaptation of the 1986 non fiction book called Wiseguy by Nicholas Pileggi. The film was subsequently released in 1990 after a few years of formulating. Scorsese was never fascinated in making a mob film until he read Pileggi s book and was drawn to the realism of the gangster lifestyle that was exposed. High and low angle shots can be a extremely effective technique if filmed correctly. Using these techniques can create more dramatic, intense scenes that might not be as effective if using different angle shots. Consider the scene where Karen lingers above Henry with a gun pointing at his head. This is a good example of how low angle and high angle shots work alongside each other. For instance, in the high angle shot of Karen, she is in the position of dominance. While the gun helps, the angle shows Karen above Henry not only in a physical manner but visually as well. Because of the angle Scorsese uses, Karen appears to have total dominance and control over the situation while reducing Henry s power that he has established throughout the film. On the other hand, Henry is viewed from a low angle shot with the gun pointed at his end. The position of the low camera angle shows Henry in a helpless, defenseless manner with no clear positive outcome. The angle portrays Karen as a big, overpowering presence as Henry is viewed as scared and vulnerable. Scorsese does a fantastic job with manipulating angles and developing certain feelings from viewing these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Concise Diction In Hills Like White Elephants By Ernest... In Hills Like White Elephants, Ernest Hemingway uses controlled concise diction to develop a tension filled tone, which characterizes the woman as a pushover to the man, revealing how society gives in to lust, blinding them from the love they desire. Through the precise use of diction between the woman ( jig ) and the man, Hemingway reveals how a lack of knowing someone can lead to emotional dismay. Concise diction in a relationship means, conversation only scratches the surface and the two lovers don t truly know about the other person s emotions. The story is full of short, one line phrases of conversation between the couple about trivial things. They converse about the lovely hills and the simple operation, yet they never ask each other about their feelings. The lack of in depth communication of opinions creates a tension filled atmosphere that just keeps building up and up as the story continues. The simple operation, an abortion, is seen by the couple as the issue they need to resolve, however, the man, who can t handle the responsibility, instead of talking it through with his lover chooses to manipulate her. He tries to convince jig, who is easily pushed over as she is stuck by lust and will do anything to keep the relationship together. She doesn t care to sacrifice her happiness for his, rather she fears that if she doesn t go through with the operation, he will leave her, she is indecisive and relies on the man to make many decisions. • 15. Language Bias 1. When writing a research report, there are five main issues of language bias . They include but, are not limited to, gender, age, sexuality, ethnicity, and disabilities. Gender is language bias, as it is a cultural term referring to social roles, which may be perceived as offensive. For example, referring to a female firefighter as a fireman implies that the female is actually a male firefighter. To avoid this, writers should ensure that they are using terms to avoid sexist bias. Next, age is language bias as a writer might think that someone is elderly because they are 50 but in reality, it is not accurate to call someone elderly until they are 65 or older. Those that are 50 could find this offensive. Thus to avoid this, a writer should always include an age range or refer to the APA manual when placing people into age categories. ... For example, an author should not write about how being a gay man is a sexual preference, as it seems like it was his choice. More so, ethnicity is also language bias. It is best to refer to the geographic locations one is from, as ethnic labels can be offensive or harmful. Writers can avoid using slang language by aiming to identify persons by nation of origin. Lastly, language objectifying a person s condition or disability is language bias. Language including negative labels, or slurs should not be used, as they are harmful and offensive. • 16. Kill A Mockingbird By Harper Lee Essay The way that people understand their circumstances and surroundings is often directly correlated to the way they perceive the world around them. An adult understands much more around him than a child does because of the mature, more knowledgeable perception he has. Meanwhile, the child, while not able to fully understand what she sees, often sees more than an adult because of the knowledge hungry, curious perception she has. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird, the characters range in gender, age, and intelligence. The narrator herself is a young elementary age child. She is extremely smart for her age, but because of her limited exposure to the world, does not fully understand the seriousness and danger of the story unfolding around her. While the book To Kill a Mockingbird covers many controversial topics, perception and the change certain characters undergo that effects this perception are the key to connecting many of them. One of the main characters in Too Kill a Mockingbird is Jem. He is Scout s older brother. As the story is told, he ages, transitioning from a young boy into a teenager. His perception of the world around him changes vastly as he ages, leaving curiosity behind for a better understanding. At the beginning of the story, the reader is introduced to the unseen character of Boo Radley. According to the adults around town, he is a recluse who never leaves his home. Video Games Help Children With Special Educational Needs This paper explains how video games help children with special educational needs, should children have certain technologies (I.e. phones, tablets, etc.) readily available, and what children enjoy about playing video games. [METHODS?] The findings from this research are that children s fascination in video games, whether with typical development or not, mainly involves the thrill of challenges and the feeling of achievement when winning. When playing video games, children do learn alternate ways to solve problems. Children who play video games may think and learn differently than those who do not play. Those who tend to cheat in a video games may also do the same when academics are involved. A child s academic ethics and effort seems to reflect when playing video games. In other words, children who play a video game with minimal effort seem to give the same amount of effort when academics are concerned. My conclusions include that technology is good for children with special educational needs, it is helpful for young children in that it gives them the tools that they need for success (being bilingual in the technological language), and that it helps children cognitively by finding new ways to solve problems. • 24. Grade Students Knowledge Of Fractions In forth grade students knowledge of fractions is expected to grow, just like in third grade, to a higher level. After reading over this section I m starting to see a pattern happening. This pattern is that each grade level begins to get harder and have more information for the students to learn. In fourth grade students expand their knowledge on equivalent fractions, comparing fractions, relating fractions and mixed numbers, adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominator, multiplying fractions by whole numbers, interpreting decimals, and last comparing decimals. In the forth grade is important for students to use a visual fraction model, to show how the number and size of parts differ, even though the fractions themselves are the same size. One way to show this in the classroom is to have the students write out the fraction such as 2/8, which can be thought of as ¼ if pairs of the original 8 sections were grouped together. The student would first draw eight connecting squares shading in the first two. Then the student would draw four connecting squares and shade in just one. As you can see ¼ is the reduced fraction of 2/8, so we are just reducing the fraction and showing how it is the same. Comparing fractions can be very difficult if the two fractions being compared have two different denominators. There a few ways to help students in this grade learn how to distinguish between the two and compare them. The first way, which is how I like to do this, is by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One major step that naval warfare took was the transition from large numbers of muzzle loading cannons on either side of the ship to turret guns. The transition from forty to fifty guns cannons to twelve big guns at the most, had substantial impacts on several aspects of naval operations. Pros and Cons of Single Sign On In single sign on, the user registers and authenticates with one site and uses those credentials for identity with other sites (Pros and Cons to Single Sign In, 2009). For the user, it lowers the barriers to participation of registering with sites without trusting them first and reduces the number of credentials with having to remember all the usernames and passwords, making it convenient. The downside for the user is if that one password is lost or forgotten, the user would have to start over rebuilding and online identity, which can be time consuming (Chng, 2008). Single sign on is also highly susceptible to phishing attacks. Enterprises that use single sign on may receive more traffic to their websites by using third party vendors, but there are things that need to be considered. The site does not see the user credentials with single sign on. They have to trust the third party site. Without seeing the user email, the enterprise cannot leverage the registrations against revenue streams of selling mailing lists to spam companies. The dependence on a third party vendor is without a legal binding agreement, so if the third party shuts down, the enterprise can lose part of the user base overnight.
