Tibial Thrographic Summary
What can be references for proximal tibial width in a tibial plateau fracture reduction? : A study of
measurements on 3D CT scan of 84 healthy knees
Background
Surgical outcomes after tibial plateau fracture treatment are strongly associated with functional
alignment, knee range of motion and stability (1, 2). The goals of tibial plateau treatment includes
restore anatomic articular stepping, sagittal alignment, coronal alignment and condylar width.
Splitting of lateral plateau in split depression fracture caused a loss of lateral support for lateral
femoral condyle, lead to a coronal instability and osteoarthritis(3). The study of Hokonen found that a
condylar width is one of the predictor for clinical result. Widening of tibial condylar width after
treatment tend to deteriorate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A helical CT scanner(...) was used. This scanning procedure was performed to acquire CT slices of
thickness 0.5 mm with resolution of 512 x512 pixels. The raw data was exported to medical modelling
software (...). The images were constructed to 3D bone models of the knee, including the distal femur,
proximal tibia and patella. The 3D models and 2D images were exported to Carestreams softwere(.....)
to perform measurements.
Measurements
Ten measurement outcomes were collected. All the values are recorded in millimeter. All
measurements were taken in coronal view to represent as anterior posterior(AP) view in fluoroscope.
Three difference reference methods were used to define coronal views (Figure1). 1) Defined as 90
degree to the true lateral view of distal femur. True lateral view of distal femur was defined as view
which has completely superimposed of posterior aspects of the femoral condyles (PCT AP). 2)
Defined as coronal view of the knee which had patella in the center of distal femoral condyle (PIC
AP). 3) Defined as coronal view of the knee which had 50% overlapping of fibular head with tibia

International Pressure As A Possible Solution
Thus far, we have covered many of the at risk groups in Bahraini society, all of whom are at risk
because of government action or inaction. Given that widespread protests resulted in no significant
changes, the outlook for the Bahraini government instituting changes on their own for the betterment
of human rights is unlikely. I have suggested international pressure as a possible solution to many of
the rights violations we have discussed, but for several reasons, this has not happened, and is unlikely
to do so. The Fifth Fleet of the United States Navy is based in Bahrain. The US views the fleet base in
Bahrain as an important area in the Middle East, and does not want to do anything to jeopardize its
continued existence. The other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bahrain also faces the problem of health issues deriving from high temperatures. The government
passed a law that banned outdoor work for the 4 peak heat hours of the day during summer, as the
average temperature is 104 degrees Fahrenheit during that time15. If temperatures increase, Bahrainis
who are unable to afford proper housing and cooling systems are at higher risk for heat stroke and heat
related health complications. Outdoor workers will also face increased risks, and the government may
have to expand their laws to protect these people. Since many of these outdoor workers are migrant
workers, it is unclear if the Bahraini government would take immediate action to protect their well
being. Bahrain needs larger international actors to reduce their emissions, while international actors
need to pressure Bahrain to stop their violations of human rights. I see a mutually beneficial solution.
If Bahrain stopped their human rights abuses, and even marginally increased democratic participation,
they might have more power to convince international actors to reduce emissions. On top of
threatening to deny base and port access to the US s 5th Fleet, these changes could convince the US to
both reduce emissions themselves and lobby for other high emissions states to reduce as well. This
would solve Bahrain s human rights issues, even those stemming from climate change. There are a
few reasons why this is a pipedream instead

The Influences of Politics, Science, and Discovery on...
Jules Verne s science fiction novel Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea delivers profound insight
into historical events which influenced the work. Through Verne s descriptive style, one is able to
ascertain various political and foreign policy aspects that involved France during the time the novel
was written. In addition, worldly issues and struggles can be accurately assessed. Due to Verne s detail
and determination to explore questions of liberty and authority, it is evident that he largely
incorporates personal opinion and ideas into his works ( Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea
Literature and Its Times). Verne also integrates Victorian Era interest such as technology and science.
Although many facets of Twenty Thousand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The destruction of the Russian warship provides a supreme indication of who Verne supported in the
conflicts between Russian and Poland. Verne sympathizes with the suffering of the Polish people and
aspires for them to obtain independence from their oppressors. It should be noted that Verne s opinion
reflects those of many in France who objected passionately to the Russians brutal punishment of the
Poles ( Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea Literature and Its Times). It became clearly evident
to Pierre Jules Hetzel, Verne s publisher, that a scene involving the destruction of a Russian warship
by a Pole would result in severe political ramifications. Hetzel feared that destroying a Russian
warship in Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea could anger the Russian government and produce
some form of retaliation. It should be noted that France had been in opposition of Russia in the
Crimean War, which came to a conclusion in 1856. Taking into consideration the closeness of the
Crimean War and the release of the first manuscript of Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea in
1868, one can speculate that France did not want to risk engagement in another war with Russia. In
addition, during the time Verne was finishing his first manuscript, the Prussians were on the move in
Denmark and Austria, and many in the French government feared that France would be next on their
list ( Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea Literature and Its Times).

Abraham Lincoln Despotism
There is no reason in the world why the negro is not entitled to all the natural rights enumerated in the
Declaration of Independence the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I hold that he is as
much entitled to these as the white man. ~Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln (1809 1865) was born in Kentucky. He served as the 16th president of the United
States during the Civil War era (a.k.a. The War Between the States). He eventually moved to Illinois,
where he established a retiring law practice and served as a state legislator. He was elected to
Congress in 1846, but did not seek a possible reelection. Lincoln was one of the very people who

If one misuses the power that has been granted to him, it can lead to despotism. Slavery is an example
of despotism; one can have dominion over another person. When Great Britain colonized and ruled
over many countries long ago including the United States and India, it was an example of autocracy.
Lincoln often spoke eloquently about the Declaration of Independence as the touchstone of American
values, but contemporary social attitudes did as much as the principles of the founding to shape his
views on racial relations. The main purpose of the Declaration of Independence written by Jefferson
was to announce the colonies separation from England. It also stated the principles that were the
foundation for seeking independence. In a speech criticizing the Dred Scott decision, Lincoln
emphasized that the Declaration set a standard of universal equality for the benefit of future
generations. He said that decision was based on assumed historical facts which were not really true;
and I ought not to leave the subject without giving some reasons for saying this; I therefore give an
instance or two, which I think fully sustain me. Chief Justice Taney [...] insists at great length that
[Negroes] were no part of the people who made, or for whom was made, the Declaration of
Independence, or the Constitution of the United States (Lincoln, Speech on the Dred Scott Decision in
Springfield, Illinois). Lincoln noted Judge Curtis s opinion showing that in five of the thirteen original
states, the freed Blacks were among the White people, who took part in the voting on the Constitution
(Lincoln, Speech on the Dred Scott Decision in Springfield, Illinois). The judge made the following
conclusion, while quoting from the US

Against Drinking Bottled Water
Have you ever been thirsty and wanted some water? You went to a store and bought plastic bottled
water, drank it and threw it away? But, did you know bottled water is bought hundreds of thousands of
times about every day? I am against drinking bottled water because I think that it s hurting animals,
costing 2000 times more than tap water, and making global warming worse. Buying bottled water can
lead to huge consequences and it will affect us desperately.
The first reason for why I am against bottled water is that bottled water is that it is killing animals.
Many sea animals/animals are dying because of these plastic bottles. People just drink them and throw
them away properly or they just throw it on the ground. Sea Animals/Animals think it s ... Show more

Tap water is basically like free! Just find a drinking fountain, press a button and there! You can only
get bottled water by going to a store and buying it. For example, many of the bottled water brands say
that Our water has fresh taste and is cheap. That s not true, it s 2,000 times more expensive, and it
doesn t even taste good anyways. Did you know that the plastic on the bottle costs more than the water
inside the bottle? This is like getting water, but you re paying more for it because of the plastic on
it.This is way more expensive, and tap water is way better and cheaper. There really is no reason to
buy bottled water, if you can get it way easier from your home s sink then going to a store and
purchasing a plastic bottle 2000 times the price of tap water. Did you remember how I said that bottled
water brands were trying to convince you to buy their water? Most of their water is just filtered tap
water inside a plastic bottle! According to Annie Leonard, an American proponent, Bottled water costs
2000 times more than tap water. Can you imagine paying 2000 times the price of anything else? How
about a $10,000 sandwich? It isn t smart to buy something more expensive when you can get it for
about free. This is like getting a sandwich but 2000 times the price of a normal sandwich. This is like
bottled water being 2000 times more expensive than tap

Earth s Only Natural Satellite

Object 1: The Moon
Next to the Sun, the moon is the most recognizable object in the night sky, and is Earth s only natural
satellite. It has been estimated that the moon formed somewhere in the region of 4.45 billion years
ago, just a measly 30 50 million years after the origination of the Solar System. While there are many
hypotheses that try to account for the formation of the moon, the one that is backed the greatest is the
theory that the moon was formed when a large mass roughly the size of Mars collided with the newly
formed Earth, this sending out planetary material into the same orbit of the Earth. This material then
underwent the process of accretion and formed what we now know as the moon. With modern laser
altimetry, scientists have been able to accurately measure the topography of the moon. The most
apparent topographic feature on the moon is located on the southern pole, is referred to as the Aitken
basin, and stretches nearly 1400 miles in diameter. This is the largest crater on the moon and the
largest known crater in the Solar System. Not only is this the widest crater on the moon, but its floor is
also the lowest point on the surface of the moon. The dark spots that are visible with the naked eye are
called maria, and they are actually hardened pools of ancient basaltic lava. Next to the maria, the most
commonly seen features of the moon are the impact craters that pepper the entire surface.

blue coloring. Upon investigation, they still had the pigments of colors in them.
Pigments are difficult to break down, but how could the pigments remain if the dinosaur eggs were
millions of years old? In a second case they found red blood cell look alikes and traces of connective
tissue. The discovery of the connective tissue immediately intensified research of these eggs, because
long ago it was stated that bone proteins only lasted one million years. Yet these scientists found ten
different proteins in fresh and flexible duck bill dinosaur blood vessels.

Clytemnestra In The Oresteia
In the Oresteia, Clytemnestra is portrayed as an intelligent, powerful woman who acts decisively in
her own interests and to protect the throne. Clytemnestra should be considered a heroine for
demonstrating her excellence by defending her own honour according to traditions, and also for
transgressing the boundaries that limited women in ancient times. Two of the most heroic acts that she
performed were ruling Argos while Agamemnon her husband was away waging the Trojan War and
ultimately taking revenge on him for the sacrifice of her daughter. Like many heroines, Clytemnestra
is flawed and dies tragically in the end.
The daughter of Tyndareus and Leda, Clytemnestra is also the half twin sister of Helen. In the
Oresteia, Clytemnestra is a problematic character; in the beginning of the Oresteia the Watchman says
that Oh she s a woman all right, a woman with a man s heart. (Oresteia, p.3) proving that he s not her
biggest admirer. Clytemnestra is an example for double role of man and woman, she is a woman but

Further deepening the confrontation is that Aegisthus was conceived by incest specifically to take

The House Of Spirits By Isabel Allende
The House full of Fighting Spirit The House of Spirits by Isabel Allende is a bewitching novel that
captivates the reader from start to end. Allende uses various forms of literary techniques to capture
important themes within the storyline. In the text, Allende expresses the way men dominate women as
the female characters of the story are limited to make graver decisions past relying on their men.
Though these women naturally seek approval from men this does not handicap them from stepping
outside their shadow as powerful women with the willingness to endure many obstacles. This essay
will focus on the use of literary devices such as foreshadowing, magical realism in conjunction with
the theme of feminism and female bond within the story. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The form in which Allende wrote this novel surprises the reader with its every turn, especially when it
s known who s really narrating the story, none other than Alba. Magical Realism in the novel The
author tackles very realistic themes in the novel although there are still fictional elements surrounding
the storyline and its characters. There is something very real and very supernatural in Allende s novel.
Allende portrays the world in which the everyday and the supernatural coexist. expresses Stephen H.
Hart in his article. The House of Spirits can be categorized as magical realism in literature, but
Stephen M. Hart refers to it as subalternised supernatural and argues that Subaltern Studies makes
visible is precisely the fissured character of the national narrative itself, the way it is intersected by
other histories, other modes of production, other values and identities the author of the article suggests
that while the story touches base with real history with its women s rights movements, the evident
social class struggles but never detaches from the storyline nor the characters, the novel never lends
itself to prolong outside of the characters for too long. The feministic theme

A General Sense, By Bram Stoker s Dracula
1. Romanticism, in a general sense, was an artistic movement that began at the end of the eighteenth
century, and, particularly in music, dominated the nineteenth century. Artistically, many traits of
Romanticism directly contrast Classicism. While the Classicism reflects balance, logic and reason,
universality, allusion, and a strong sense of the physical world, Romanticism thrives on sentimentality,
untamed nature, diversity, and the supernatural. The arts, in general, are the most obvious product of
this time. Untamed nature had been an interest for quite some time, carrying over from the
transcendental movement, notably from authors such as Henry David Thoreau. The interest in the
supernatural was inseparable from Romanticism, appearing in every art form. Novels such as Bram
Stoker s Dracula demonstrated the curiosity in the occult. Notable musical that also concern this topic
include Hector Berlioz s opera Faust, the Witches Sabbath from Symphonie Fantastique (which also
includes a demonic version of the Dies irae chant), Franz Liszt s Mephisto Waltz, and Modest
Mussorgsky s Night on Bald Mountain. Much of the Romantic Movement in music also involves the
portrayal of human emotions, such as Hector Berlioz s affections for Irish actress Harriet Smithson
through his Symphonie Fantastique. The social constructs also began to evolve during this period.
Carrying over from the late Classical period was a large middle class. Coupled with improvements in

Pros And Cons Of Electric Cars
The Pros and Cons of Electric Cars Cars have become the most common form of transportation that
individuals use in their day to day lives. Not only is there a selection of brands to choose from, there
are also different types of cars available to purchase, those being gasoline fueled, diesel fueled,
electric, and hybrid cars. Each car comes with a vast amount of differences, besides the obvious power
source. As well as the differences, each car also comes with its advantages and disadvantages.
However, as time has progressed electric cars have become more popular and in demand. But of
course with each popular and in demand item, there will certainly be pros and cons. The first
successful electric car made its appearance to the world over one hundred years ago, around 1890
thanks to William Morrison, a chemist who lived in Des Moines, Iowa. His six passenger vehicle
capable of a top speed of 14 miles per hour was little more than an electrified wagon, but it helped
spark interest in electric vehicles. (Matulka, 2012) Although their advantages were soon
overshadowed by gasoline driven automobiles, they slowly made a return in 2008 thanks to common
consumer, Tesla Motors. The electric cars grew and quickly gained popularity due to its energy
efficient nature and comparatively lower cost. In addition to the energy efficiency and lower costs,
electric vehicles are ecosystem friendly, smoothly driven, quiet, and quick, no tailpipe emissions and
last but not least, the electric

Funeral Oration And Pericles Funeral Oration
On the other hand, Pericles Funeral Oration is a celebration of Athenian Democracy. Despite being a
general, Pericles held considerable influence over the political system and his Funerary Oration
displays his support for the democratic system while also giving himself credit for his own personal
achievements for the state. During his oration, Pericles focuses on the different aspects that make the
Athenian culture superior to both their allies and rival city states; and he concludes that Athens as a
whole is a lesson for Greece. He does not only believe his bragging statements are his opinion, but
also states that the truth in his declarations are evident by the character of the citizens and the power of
Athens. The Funeral Oration honors those who have passed in the war, but Pericles also uses it as an
opportunity to highlight Athenian customs, government, and way of life as the reasons for their
military success.
While his perspective of the government is positive, he does acknowledge the problems Pseudo
Xenophon has with democracy. One of the Pseudo Xenophon s main concern is the ignorance of the
mass and their inability to serve in public office since such practices do not produce the best city, but
they are the best way of preserving democracy. Pericles revitalizes the trust that Pseudo Xenophon
lacks in the masses of the common citizen. Pericles states the virtues of the democracy and the ideal
that no one is held back by poverty or because his reputation is not well known, as long as he can do
good service to the city. While acknowledging the potential issues of having an ignorant
representative, Pericles supports that trust in fellow citizens is a building block in democracy and
everyone who has the potential to prove themselves a good public servant should be given the
opportunity to show their ability and voice their ideas. He also addresses Pseudo Xenophon s issues
with the common people s rule of self interest. Pseudo Xenophon does not have an issue with the self
interest of the few overriding the self interest of the many and even refers to it as an excellent system
[where] the common people would very soon lose all their political rights. Pericles does not

Analysis Of Pierre Trudeau s Just Watch Me
Source #1 is a photograph depicting a young boy, presumably selling newspapers. The front page of
the newspaper boldly declares, War Measures Act Invoked. Based on the style of clothing the people
in this photo are wearing, this photo was most likely taken in 1970 when Canadian Prime Minister
Pierre Trudeau invoked the War Measures Act in response to the October Crisis. In the background of
the photo, people can be seen going about their daily lives, a contrast to the brazen announcement on
the paper. There are no police arresting anyone, or violence of any kind. This demonstrates an effort
by the photographer to show that the War Measures Act did not cause drastic change to daily life. The
ideology presented in this source is illiberalism. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rand, who escaped to the United States from Russia during the Cold War, defines democracy and
liberalism, in their modern forms, as the ultimate inversion. She then goes on to describe this
inversion, painting a picture of a rather illiberal society. The society she describes appears to
demonstrate very limited rights and freedoms of its citizens. She also implies that American citizens
do not have any real power over their government, even though the United States is, by name, a
democracy, and its citizens elect their government. This implication is supported by Rand stating that
the government is free to do anything it pleases, while citizens may act only by permission, where
permission is presumably that of the government. Rand then asserts that a society in this state of rule
by brute force is the worst state that a society can be

Argumentative Essay About Legalizing Marijuana
What really happens when you legalize marijuana? What would happen to America if it was legal?
The effects of this drug on the people who use it and America is a very serious topic. Some think that
that because of the positive effects of marijuana means it should be available to everyone. In contrast
the effects of this drug is detrimental to a person s health and should be illegal. It causes lung cancer
and other breathing problems. In younger adults it causes their brains to not properly and it can have
long term effects on the body. However this drug helps with terminal illnesses, nausea and stimulating
appetite. There are times when this drug is needed and very useful. The constant argument on whether
to legalize marijuana for everyone or keep it illegal and only used for medical purposes needs to come
to a close. While a large and growing number of people want to legalize it because of its medical uses,
the side effects of this drug cause cancer and development problems; the disadvantages clearly
outweigh the advantages of it. Marijuana is currently and should stay illegal.

Rodney King Riots of 1992
In May of 1992, Manhattan borough president and NLC Advisory Council s Liaison for Diversity in
Governance s Ruth Messinger expressed, Violence begets violence. We must have the strength to
break this cycle out of frustration resulting from detrimental civil rights riots stemming from the brutal
beating of an African American man (Baker). From April 29th to May 1st of 1992 protestors
throughout the Los Angeles area displayed violent actions while rioting against a racially biased
verdict. The 1992 Rodney King riots in Los Angeles show how mob mentality can negatively impact
an entire city.
On March 3rd, 1991, African American citizen Rodney King found himself engaged in a high speed
chase with a few Los Angeles policemen. Officers Laurence Powell, Timothy Ward, Stacey Koon, and
Theodore Biseno eventually caught up to 27 year old King at Dodger Stadium, where they proceeded
to brutally beat him. Witness George Holliday filmed the four officers striking King with their batons
over 50 times, and eventually sold the footage to KTLA in Los Angeles, which would soon find itself
on news and broadcasts nationwide. This event was eventually taken to trial, where the four police
officers involved in the violence against King were not found guilty of assault with a deadly weapon
and excessive use of force. After hearing the final verdict, many people throughout the city and
beyond were enraged, with even mayor Tom Bradley saying, Today the jury asked us to accept the
senseless and brutal beating of a helpless man (Wallenfeldt). Not only were people angry about the
verdict of the trial because of the video evidence and obvious ethical issues, but also because of his
race and the belief that his civil rights had been violated. The outcome of Rodney King s trial angered
many Americans across the country, and eventually caused them to take actions they normally would
not.
Later, on April 29, 1992, riots began to break out in the city of Los Angeles and other areas around the
country. During the Rodney King riots, citizens began to experience deindividuation and feelings of
anonymity, making them do things that would normally go against a

voices emerge in terms of influence on the social economy or unequal treatment between the elderly
and the others. The reasons why I strongly believe the elderly should receive free bus rides are lacking
finance, preventing traffic accidents, and promoting public transportations. A lack of finance is the
first reason that the elderly should receive free bus rides. A majority of the elderly is limited in their
finance after they got retired; they are sometimes even not able to pay their fundamental living needs
such as medicine and groceries. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 12% seniors are living at the
poverty level, and their income become lower and lower with increasing age; therefore, they would
have difficulty in their constant expenses such as healthcare, housing, food, and so on. About 14.2% of
all these expenses are spent on transportation (Hawkins 2017). The elderly are struggling with housing
and health bills, lack of access to transportation; over 25 million Americans are living at or below the
poverty line (National Council

12 Dancing Barbies Essay
Barbie is, basically, a blonde, blue eyed, and a perfect looking doll that was made as a toy for young
girls. It was originally introduced in America (1959). The Barbie doll has a great influence on both
adults and children. To illustrate, for adults, Barbie doll is grounded in the notion that dolls reinstall
the oppressions of patriarchy and the detrimental aspects of capitalism in a dangerous manner under
the guise of child s play. In this regard, feminist perspectives on beauty call attention to the high value
that patriarchal society places on the attractiveness in women. Therefore, the message to women and
young girls is that beauty is a central feature of a woman s identity. Nonetheless, this significant
message assigns role for women. They are expected to be, always, nicely dressed with full makeup
and waiting for their husbands to welcome them. These women are just like the well dressed doll that
is left at home waiting for her owner to come from school to play with it. ... Show more content on

In Twelve Dancing Barbies, Jong relates the title of her article to her favourite fairy tale that was
called The Twelve Dancing Princesses . To her, children are able to escape reality by going to the
alternative world of magic and imaginations where they are extremely enjoying. This is highly shown
when the twelve princesses leave beds and travel to an underground realm where they dance all night
with twelve princes. Yet, this would only happen when the adults are not looking. Consequently, she
stated that adults need a fantasy doll to create their own world where they can act spontaneously like
children in fairytales. Hence, this suggestion might reveal that adults are living in a harsh reality.
Similarly to Wolitzer, She sees her sons free and comfortable only when they play with their Barbie as
they are able to create an entire imagined universe for

Character Analysis Of Doctor Manette
In the unabridged text of A Tale of Two Cities, by Charles Dickens, Doctor Manette is a dynamic
character who changes from weak to independent proving recovery is possible. This novel takes the
reader on a journey throughout the French Revolution by using the connections of characters living in
two different cities. Doctor Manette is a rescued prisoner who moves in with his daughter. Along the
way, they learn how to support one another and survive the chaos of the revolution. Doctor Manette
must strengthen himself in order to survive during this time. In the beginning, he starts off relying on
his daughter, Lucie Manette. In the nighttime, Ladybird has learnt to know then that his mind is
walking up and down... She hurries to him, and they go on together... (74). This establishes Doctor
Manette s needs because his mind is focused on being in prison and he needs to recover. When Doctor
Manette gets in these small fits, Lucie will walk back and forth in the halls to help him. He is fragile
and needs the support from his daughter. These fits could last anywhere from a few hours to nine days.
As the story continues, Doctor Manette found ways to cope so they did not happen as frequently. One
way was dexterously fixing shoes. In the morning, he was up betimes, and went straight to his bench
and to work (151). This exhibits Doctor Manette recovering because putting his mind to work during
an episode allowed his memories of prison to vanish. Without the focus of skillfully

The Effect Of Alkaline Phosphatase On Para...
A SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC ASSAY OF THE ACTIVITY OF ALKALINE PHOSPHATASE ON
PARA NITROPHENYLPHOSPHATE IN THE PRODUCTION OF PARA NITROPHENOL
M. Smit1
1 Department of Biological Sciences, University of Cape Town, Rondebosch
Introduction:
Alkaline phosphatase is a biologically important enzyme, catalysing the hydrolysis of phosphate
groups in organic compounds through the process of dephosphorylation. para Nitrophenylphosphate
(pPNP) is an example of a chromogenic substrate of this enzyme, because the product of hydrolysis of
pPNP is the yellow para nitrophenol (pNP) compound along with inorganic phosphate (McComb,
Bowers and Posen, 1979).
The Michaelis Menten equation for enzyme kinetics (Murray, 2002) predicts an initially high rate of
enzyme activity as the concentration of the substrate is relatively high, followed by a gradual
reduction in enzyme activity as the substrate is consumed. The enzyme alkaline phosphatase is also
known to be subject to competitive inhibition by inorganic phosphates via the formation of the
phospho enzyme, thus blocking the active site to pPNP for dephosphorylation (Kim and Wyckoff,
1991).
The enzyme kinetics of alkaline phosphatase on this chemogenic substrate is the focus of this study, in
an attempt to determine the trend in the rate at which pNP concentration changes over time and the
impact of a high concentration of the inorganic phosphate product on enzyme activity. It is
hypothesised that the rate of enzyme activity will initially be

My Experience Of High School Experience In Middle School
When I was in middle school, I was on the quiz bowl team. The tournaments were nonchalant, the
questions were manageable, and the teams all competed to have a good time, not just to advance. Due
to the enjoyable nature of my middle school experience, I decided that I would brave the unknown
murky waters of high school scholars bowl. I was under the assumption that it would be the same for
the most part; however, this assumption was severely misguided. Strolling into the classroom for my
first day of practice, I realized I was surrounded by people who seemed to be far more knowledgeable
than me. A prime example would be Macy Davis. Sitting at the front of the room, Mr. Kucharik was
manning the buzzer system. Frightened because I was a young naïve freshman, I hesitantly sat down
as rumor led me to believe that Mr. K despised freshman. The practice was not at all what I expected
and was demanding to say the least. Asking us impossible college level questions, Mr. Kucharik
seemed to love watching us struggle; furthermore, the man was sadistic as he transitioned from
questions such as What kind of clouds produce thunderstorms? to questions about novels that I d
never even heard of. After attending several practices, at which I performed horribly every morning,
we finally participated in our first tournament of the year. My first time ever leaving the school with
Mr. Kucharik did not go the way I hoped it would. For example, when we first arrived in the parking

The Dawes General Allotment Act Essay
The Dawes General Allotment Act was made to create the great symbol of the United States just hours
after the Declaration of Independence was written. Benjamin Franklin, John Adams and Thomas
Jefferson began preparing to a one of a kind, national seal. The seal went through three stages of
designs in early 1782 before the fourth was chosen in 1782. A second and third committee made
designs for the seal along with Charles Thompson. The first three designs played a part in the fourth
design that combined the three. Charles Thompson created the fourth design and it was approved by
congress on June 20, 1782. The Seal represents sovereignty for America. The seal s design is used as
our national coats of arms and is used to decorate on our military uniforms. I believe that the United
States won, even though this wasn t a battle. In the end the United States gained a symbol of the
country s sovereignty.

The Psychedelic Era
The Psychedelic Era started in the 1960 s and went all the way to 1975. This movement not only

America between 1945 and 1957. In the 1960s the babies were young adults and started to question

sparked the feminist movement and the Black movement. In America during the 60s and 70s faced a
lot of controversial issues that include the civil rights, the Vietnam War, sexual freedom, nuclear
proliferation, nonconformity and the environment of duge use which lead to many youths
experimenting with psychedelic drugs and Eastern Mysticism. This influenced the name psychedelic

Summary Of On Thin Ice
In modern times, when individuals think about environmental problems, climate change seems to
always be at the forefront. Whether people learned through the Paris Climate Accord or the internet
about the devastating effects that a warming climate could bring, most of society can at least
acknowledge that climate change is a hot political talking point. Because of this, more and more
research has been focused on the effects that a changing climate could bring about. Research on the
effects of climate change range from the percentage of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and its
effects on global temperatures, to the rate at which glacial ice is melting and sea level rise. This
documentary, On Thin Ice, is concerned with the relationship between a warming climate and the rate
at which the Gangotri Glacier has been melting over several years. This film discusses the different
effects that a rapidly melting Gangotri has on water scarcity in Indian villages located downstream as
well as the ways that Americans could be affected by this environmental phenomenon. On Thin Ice
begins with the host, David Brancaccio, presenting the main focus of the film: the effects that a
warming climate could have on the endangered Gangotri Glacier. Brancaccio then introduces Conrad
Anker, an accomplished mountaineer and environmentalist. Both Brancaccio and Anker decide to go
on a long hiking trek to see firsthand, the ways that the Gangotri Glacier has been affected by climate
change. Dr. Vandana

Philip Graham Ryken Chapter Summary
I like and enjoyed reading on Philip Graham Ryken writing from a very conservatives point of view
and his encouragement to the readers to return to the pillars of faith the church once held dear (in the
first century).
Ryken starts his book with an introduction to postmodernism and identifies these post Christian times
as being characterized by relativism and narcissism which is pretty much true in these modern days.
From a very conservative point of view Ryken said in order to fight against these modern day
contemporary churches which are being characterized by relativism and narcissism and to be a remedy
to society, churches need to return to the model of the 1st century church a church that was modeled
on teaching, worshiping and caring.
Agreement: I am in very much agreement with Ryken s identification on seven objectives for the
church: expository preaching, worthy worship, Bible study and fellowship, pastoral care, educational
programs, missionary work and service to the church and community. Each of these objectives forms a
chapter in the book. I enjoy reading and learning from each of the chapter and appreciate very much
for the author s characterization on church and works. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The selections in this Echo: The Quest for an Ideal, all present alike themes in various perspectives.
The theme, reaching for a goal we desire to achieve can encourage us to grow and evolve, although, if
that goal is for perfection the outcomes can be devastating, is displayed in multiple selections. Two
selections that will be explored are the poem The Lady of Shalott by Alfred Tennyson and the song
Candle in the Wind by Elton John and Bernie Taupin. These selections provide sufficient evidence to
support the overall theme of The Quest for an Ideal.

This song is a eulogy that was written for Marilyn Monroe after her tragic passing due to an overdose.
Marilyn Monroe s goal was to be famous and to be the image of perfection, but when she obtained the
fame that she believed she wanted, she felt troubled as she felt like she was playing a role and not
being true to herself. In the line, And they made you change your name, it displays the pressure that
she was under in order to achieve her goal of fame. Marilyn Monroe was told to change her name
from Norma Jean to Marilyn Monroe in order to become the perfect person that everyone wanted her
to become. This made her feel as if she was constantly playing a role and lead to a source of
discontentment in her life which led to her untimely death, a devastating consequence of reaching for
perfection. Another reference to the song is, Never knowing who to cling to, this represents the
loneliness in her life when she achieved her goal of fame. Although, she had accomplished her goal
and was what many considered to be perfect, she had no one around her to give her support and when
times were hard she had no one that she could rely on. To the outside world, it seemed like Marilyn
Monroe was the essence of perfection, but, she had her demons and felt lonesome in her own life. This
again is a devastating consequence of having a goal of perfection. A lyric of the song, And pain was
the price you paid, summarizes the theme of the unit as while she was reaching to obtain her goal of
perfection, in the end all she felt was pain and loneliness. The result of Marilyn Monroe s goal of
perfection was ultimately destructive as it was a factor in her

Comparison Of Descartes And John Locke s View Of The Real...
The real world consists of all that is reality, which exists regardless if it is perceived it or not. For
example, a person who was born blind has never seen color, but irrespective of the blind person seeing
it or not, color still exists in the world. In contrast, the world as we know it is composed of what we
perceive with our senses, which may vary from person to person. For example, for the person who
was born blind and has never seen color, color would not be a part of their perceived world as it would
for someone who has seen it. Although the blind person might have a notion of color, learned from
others who can see color, the blind person would still have no direct experience of it as others who can
see color do. Both Descartes and Locke distinguish between the real world and the world as we know
it. However, there are several points at which their views differ. Locke argues that the ideas we gain
from the world are directly experienced through our senses and what we perceive with our senses
represents the real world. Locke presents us with primary qualities, such as shapes, and tells us that
they are good depictions of reality, leading us to believe that our ideas of primary qualities are ...

the qualities of the candle and how we can perceive size and shape (called primary qualities by Locke)

The Horror Genre Of Horror Essay
Introduction The horror genre is one of the oldest genres used in storytelling. It was used in old
folklore stories and was commonly used during the ancient Greek plays. Horror genre became one of
the first genres to be adopted into filmmaking in the 1920 s. Though the word horror to describe in the
film genre would not be used until after Universal Pictures released Dracula and Frankenstein both in
1931. J. A. Cuddon (1984) defined horror in The Penguin Book of Horror Stories as a piece of fiction
in prose of variable length... which shocks or even frightens the reader, or perhaps induces a feeling of
repulsion or loathing (p. 11). Like most genres the favoritism towards one depends on what is
happening in society. Today horror genre continues its popularity in films and television because the
economy is not doing well. There are many different subgenres to horror but they all have themes that
are repeated. This paper will focus on the science fiction horror subgenre. Science fiction is best
defined by writer Robert A. Heinlein (1959) stated, realistic speculation about possible future events,
based solidly on adequate knowledge of the real world, past and present, and on a thorough
understanding of the nature and significance of the scientific method (n.p.). Science fiction horror
films are fictional science based depictions of phenomena with a horror twist added to it. Often these

Process of Solving a Homicide Essay
Solving A Homicide
Solving a crime is difficult for detectives. Homicides are even harder cases to solve, the only person
that can really tell what happened is dead. So many people are afraid to step up as witnesses, they fear
their life would be in jeopardy for helping the detectives. For homicide detectives, the first forty eight
hours is the most critical part for solving a case. After that, the probability of solving the case reduces
by fifty percent. Each passing hour gives suspects more time to get away, witnesses more time to
forget what they saw, and crucial evidence more time to be lost forever. There are several steps to take
in solving a homicide. From the moment the first officer arrives on the scene, he/she will need to ...

Then the lead officer will need to determine the boundaries of the scene starting at the central point
and extending outward, safeguarding the crime scene with yellow police tape noting possible paths of
entry and exits of suspects and witnesses. It s better to close off a larger area at first and then make
smaller if needed. The precautions that are taken are very important to safeguarding evidence and
minimizing contamination. By now the crime scene has been labeled a homicide and detectives have
been dispatched to the scene. When the detectives arrive the lead officer will then provide a detailed
crime scene briefing to the detective in charge of the scene. This briefing will be the only opportunity
for the detective to receive the initial aspects of the crime scene prior to subsequent investigation.
Since the crime scene and any/all evidence collected are the key factors in making a case, the crime
scene must be documented as soon as possible including, appearance and condition of the scene upon
arrival, lights on/off, shades up/down, doors, windows open/closed, any unusual smells, ice, liquids,
weather conditions, temperature, and any personal items that may have been left behind. Once the lead

The Differences Of The Brer Rabbit, By Alan Mcdonald
This essay could be compared with the African American folk story Brer rabbit and tar baby. This
story is basically about a Brer fox who detested the Brer rabbit for bossing everyone around. The Brer
fox only wanted to kill the Brer rabbit and end the infuriating behavior caused by it. One day the Brer
fox made a Tar baby to trick the Brer rabbit. The Brer rabbit then finally stumbled across the
treacherous trap. It tried talking and mingling with the tar baby but had got no response. Tar baby is a
non living object made of clammy tar. The non response from the tar baby started to annoy the Brer
rabbit. Hence the Brer rabbit starts to punch the tar baby. This made the Brer rabbit unpleasantly stick
on the tar baby. The Brer rabbit was unable to escape this trap. Brer rabbit could represent something
or someone who could put himself/herself into a tight spot by making an unwise assumption and then
behaving in a rash manner. In the essay by Annie Dillard, Alan McDonald could be the Brer rabbit.

Introverts are the Forgotten Sheep in the Herd in the...
Shyness: Evolutionary Tactic? is an article written in The New York Times newspaper. Susan Cane
wrote the article in June 2011.The article used a variety of techniques to illustrate her point such as
examples, sources, and new definitions. Cain writes about shyness, introversion, social anxiety
disorder, and extroversion. She compares introversion to extroversion. We need equally kinds of
people in society. In my experience, people display both characteristics at the same time. The article
shyness and evolutionary tactic is an interesting article because the current social judgment favors
extroverts but does a disservice to introverts who also make important contributions to sociality. There
is a tendency in American society today to have a bias against for anyone who is not gregarious,
upbeat, part of the crowd or in the spotlight There are people who on the outside are not sociable,
because these people are shy. However, there is a difference between shyness and introversion. Shy
people often avoid many things because they are nervous or they criticize themselves for speaking up.
Introverts, however, will not be nervous or criticize themselves. Both shyness and being introverted
are acceptable traits. It only becomes a problem when a person has a social anxiety disorder that

Otto Von Bismarck s Social Insurance Campaign
Otto von Bismarck Otto von Bismarck was from an aristocratic family. He designed a social insurance
program for the old and disabled individuals. Bismarck intended to use the social insurance program
to promote the well being of employees and to maximize the efficiency of Germany economy.
According to the program, the Germany system would contribute disability benefits and retirement
benefits. The contributions were a must and were taken from the government, the employee, and the
employer. These reforms earned Bismarck, the title of a socialist.
Social Darwinism This is a theory that argues individuals, races, and groups are all subject to the laws

Compare A Christmas Memory And The Gettysburg Address
The Great Depression was set off by the stock market crash of October 29, 1929. During the next ten
years, one in four people were unemployed, and begging for food, shelter, and other necessities was
widespread. A Christmas Memory, by Truman Capote, takes place during the height of that period.
Buddy and his friend, a mentally disabled older cousin of his, have to learn how to survive and be
joyful during that period. The story takes place during the holiday season, where Buddy and his friend
have to scrape together enough to have a good holiday. One lesson the story suggests is that when
people persevere, they may be able to find bliss even in the worst and most trying times. Similarly,
The Gettysburg Address also expresses the same theme of perseverance through the fiery words of
Abraham Lincoln.
The theme of perseverance is shown from the beginning of both A Christmas Memory and The
Gettysburg Address . In A Christmas Memory, Buddy and his friend scramble to make fruitcakes for
their friends, even though there is no money for them to use, and alcohol, a key ingredient, is
prohibited. An example of their perseverance is when they go to Haha Jones, an illegal alcohol dealer,
to buy the final ingredient, whiskey. This shows perseverance because they needed to make fruitcakes,
so they went to extreme lengths to be able to produce them. In The Gettysburg Address, Lincoln
states, Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so

Chinese Cultural Values
The cultural values of a country influence its national psychology and identity. Citizens values and
public opinions are conveyed to state leaders through the media and other information channels, both
directly and indirectly influencing decisions on foreign policy. The Chinese is one of the world s
oldest cultures, tracing back to hundreds and thousands of years ago. There are more than fifty ethnic
groups in China who are fully diverse. Culture includes religion, food, music, language, morals and
many other things that make up how a group acts and interacts. Chinese art has arguably the oldest
continuous tradition in the world, and is marked by an unusual degree of continuity within of classical
styles. Much of the finest work was produced in large workshops or factories by essentially unknown
artists, especially in the field of Chinese porcelain. Much of the best work in ceramics, textiles and
other techniques was produced over a long period by the various factories or workshops, which as
well as being used by the court was distributed internally and abroad on a huge scale to demonstrate
the wealth and power of the Emperors. Most social values are derived from Confucianism, Taoism,
Daoism and Buddhism. Each unique cultural value can pursue a different side of storytelling of an
event or movement. The traditional cultural values that influence the psyche of the Chinese people are
benevolence/filial piety, righteousness, and harmony.
Benevolence, the fundamental value

Tibial Thrographic Summary What can be references for proximal tibial width in a tibial plateau fracture reduction? : A study of measurements on 3D CT scan of 84 healthy knees Background Surgical outcomes after tibial plateau fracture treatment are strongly associated with functional alignment, knee range of motion and stability (1, 2). The goals of tibial plateau treatment includes restore anatomic articular stepping, sagittal alignment, coronal alignment and condylar width. Splitting of lateral plateau in split depression fracture caused a loss of lateral support for lateral femoral condyle, lead to a coronal instability and osteoarthritis(3). • 3. International Pressure As A Possible Solution Thus far, we have covered many of the at risk groups in Bahraini society, all of whom are at risk because of government action or inaction. Given that widespread protests resulted in no significant changes, the outlook for the Bahraini government instituting changes on their own for the betterment of human rights is unlikely. I have suggested international pressure as a possible solution to many of the rights violations we have discussed, but for several reasons, this has not happened, and is unlikely to do so. The Fifth Fleet of the United States Navy is based in Bahrain. The US views the fleet base in Bahrain as an important area in the Middle East, and does not want to do anything to jeopardize its continued existence. The other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bahrain also faces the problem of health issues deriving from high temperatures. The government passed a law that banned outdoor work for the 4 peak heat hours of the day during summer, as the average temperature is 104 degrees Fahrenheit during that time15. If temperatures increase, Bahrainis who are unable to afford proper housing and cooling systems are at higher risk for heat stroke and heat related health complications. Outdoor workers will also face increased risks, and the government may have to expand their laws to protect these people. Since many of these outdoor workers are migrant workers, it is unclear if the Bahraini government would take immediate action to protect their well being. Bahrain needs larger international actors to reduce their emissions, while international actors need to pressure Bahrain to stop their violations of human rights. I see a mutually beneficial solution. If Bahrain stopped their human rights abuses, and even marginally increased democratic participation, they might have more power to convince international actors to reduce emissions. On top of threatening to deny base and port access to the US s 5th Fleet, these changes could convince the US to both reduce emissions themselves and lobby for other high emissions states to reduce as well. This would solve Bahrain s human rights issues, even those stemming from climate change. There are a few reasons why this is a pipedream instead ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Jules Verne s science fiction novel Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea delivers profound insight into historical events which influenced the work. Through Verne s descriptive style, one is able to ascertain various political and foreign policy aspects that involved France during the time the novel was written. In addition, worldly issues and struggles can be accurately assessed. Due to Verne s detail and determination to explore questions of liberty and authority, it is evident that he largely incorporates personal opinion and ideas into his works ( Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea Literature and Its Times). Verne also integrates Victorian Era interest such as technology and science. Although many facets of Twenty Thousand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The destruction of the Russian warship provides a supreme indication of who Verne supported in the conflicts between Russian and Poland. Verne sympathizes with the suffering of the Polish people and aspires for them to obtain independence from their oppressors. It should be noted that Verne s opinion reflects those of many in France who objected passionately to the Russians brutal punishment of the Poles ( Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea Literature and Its Times). It became clearly evident to Pierre Jules Hetzel, Verne s publisher, that a scene involving the destruction of a Russian warship by a Pole would result in severe political ramifications. Hetzel feared that destroying a Russian warship in Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea could anger the Russian government and produce some form of retaliation. It should be noted that France had been in opposition of Russia in the Crimean War, which came to a conclusion in 1856. Taking into consideration the closeness of the Crimean War and the release of the first manuscript of Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea in 1868, one can speculate that France did not want to risk engagement in another war with Russia. In addition, during the time Verne was finishing his first manuscript, the Prussians were on the move in Denmark and Austria, and many in the French government feared that France would be next on their list ( Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea Literature and Its Times). ... Lincoln often spoke eloquently about the Declaration of Independence as the touchstone of American values, but contemporary social attitudes did as much as the principles of the founding to shape his views on racial relations. The main purpose of the Declaration of Independence written by Jefferson was to announce the colonies separation from England. It also stated the principles that were the foundation for seeking independence. In a speech criticizing the Dred Scott decision, Lincoln emphasized that the Declaration set a standard of universal equality for the benefit of future generations. He said that decision was based on assumed historical facts which were not really true; and I ought not to leave the subject without giving some reasons for saying this; I therefore give an instance or two, which I think fully sustain me. Earth s Only Natural Satellite Andrew Logan Dr. Richards PHY 161 5/1/15 Observing Project Object 1: The Moon Next to the Sun, the moon is the most recognizable object in the night sky, and is Earth s only natural satellite. It has been estimated that the moon formed somewhere in the region of 4.45 billion years ago, just a measly 30 50 million years after the origination of the Solar System. While there are many hypotheses that try to account for the formation of the moon, the one that is backed the greatest is the theory that the moon was formed when a large mass roughly the size of Mars collided with the newly formed Earth, this sending out planetary material into the same orbit of the Earth. This material then underwent the process of accretion and formed what we now know as the moon. With modern laser altimetry, scientists have been able to accurately measure the topography of the moon. The most apparent topographic feature on the moon is located on the southern pole, is referred to as the Aitken basin, and stretches nearly 1400 miles in diameter. This is the largest crater on the moon and the largest known crater in the Solar System. Not only is this the widest crater on the moon, but its floor is also the lowest point on the surface of the moon. The dark spots that are visible with the naked eye are called maria, and they are actually hardened pools of ancient basaltic lava. Next to the maria, the most commonly seen features of the moon are the impact craters that pepper the entire surface. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Clytemnestra In The Oresteia In the Oresteia, Clytemnestra is portrayed as an intelligent, powerful woman who acts decisively in her own interests and to protect the throne. Clytemnestra should be considered a heroine for demonstrating her excellence by defending her own honour according to traditions, and also for transgressing the boundaries that limited women in ancient times. Two of the most heroic acts that she performed were ruling Argos while Agamemnon her husband was away waging the Trojan War and ultimately taking revenge on him for the sacrifice of her daughter. Like many heroines, Clytemnestra is flawed and dies tragically in the end. The daughter of Tyndareus and Leda, Clytemnestra is also the half twin sister of Helen. In the Oresteia, Clytemnestra is a problematic character; in the beginning of the Oresteia the Watchman says that Oh she s a woman all right, a woman with a man s heart. • 13. A General Sense, By Bram Stoker s Dracula 1. Romanticism, in a general sense, was an artistic movement that began at the end of the eighteenth century, and, particularly in music, dominated the nineteenth century. Artistically, many traits of Romanticism directly contrast Classicism. While the Classicism reflects balance, logic and reason, universality, allusion, and a strong sense of the physical world, Romanticism thrives on sentimentality, untamed nature, diversity, and the supernatural. The arts, in general, are the most obvious product of this time. Untamed nature had been an interest for quite some time, carrying over from the transcendental movement, notably from authors such as Henry David Thoreau. The interest in the supernatural was inseparable from Romanticism, appearing in every art form. Novels such as Bram Stoker s Dracula demonstrated the curiosity in the occult. Notable musical that also concern this topic include Hector Berlioz s opera Faust, the Witches Sabbath from Symphonie Fantastique (which also includes a demonic version of the Dies irae chant), Franz Liszt s Mephisto Waltz, and Modest Mussorgsky s Night on Bald Mountain. Much of the Romantic Movement in music also involves the portrayal of human emotions, such as Hector Berlioz s affections for Irish actress Harriet Smithson through his Symphonie Fantastique. The social constructs also began to evolve during this period. Carrying over from the late Classical period was a large middle class. Coupled with improvements in printing ... Not only is there a selection of brands to choose from, there are also different types of cars available to purchase, those being gasoline fueled, diesel fueled, electric, and hybrid cars. Each car comes with a vast amount of differences, besides the obvious power source. As well as the differences, each car also comes with its advantages and disadvantages. However, as time has progressed electric cars have become more popular and in demand. But of course with each popular and in demand item, there will certainly be pros and cons. The first successful electric car made its appearance to the world over one hundred years ago, around 1890 thanks to William Morrison, a chemist who lived in Des Moines, Iowa. His six passenger vehicle capable of a top speed of 14 miles per hour was little more than an electrified wagon, but it helped spark interest in electric vehicles. (Matulka, 2012) Although their advantages were soon overshadowed by gasoline driven automobiles, they slowly made a return in 2008 thanks to common consumer, Tesla Motors. • 15. Funeral Oration And Pericles Funeral Oration On the other hand, Pericles Funeral Oration is a celebration of Athenian Democracy. Despite being a general, Pericles held considerable influence over the political system and his Funerary Oration displays his support for the democratic system while also giving himself credit for his own personal achievements for the state. During his oration, Pericles focuses on the different aspects that make the Athenian culture superior to both their allies and rival city states; and he concludes that Athens as a whole is a lesson for Greece. He does not only believe his bragging statements are his opinion, but also states that the truth in his declarations are evident by the character of the citizens and the power of Athens. The Funeral Oration honors those who have passed in the war, but Pericles also uses it as an opportunity to highlight Athenian customs, government, and way of life as the reasons for their military success. While his perspective of the government is positive, he does acknowledge the problems Pseudo Xenophon has with democracy. One of the Pseudo Xenophon s main concern is the ignorance of the mass and their inability to serve in public office since such practices do not produce the best city, but they are the best way of preserving democracy. Pericles revitalizes the trust that Pseudo Xenophon lacks in the masses of the common citizen. Pericles states the virtues of the democracy and the ideal that no one is held back by poverty or because his reputation is not well known, as long as he can do good service to the city. While acknowledging the potential issues of having an ignorant representative, Pericles supports that trust in fellow citizens is a building block in democracy and everyone who has the potential to prove themselves a good public servant should be given the opportunity to show their ability and voice their ideas. He also addresses Pseudo Xenophon s issues with the common people s rule of self interest. We must have the strength to break this cycle out of frustration resulting from detrimental civil rights riots stemming from the brutal beating of an African American man (Baker). From April 29th to May 1st of 1992 protestors throughout the Los Angeles area displayed violent actions while rioting against a racially biased verdict. The 1992 Rodney King riots in Los Angeles show how mob mentality can negatively impact an entire city. On March 3rd, 1991, African American citizen Rodney King found himself engaged in a high speed chase with a few Los Angeles policemen. Officers Laurence Powell, Timothy Ward, Stacey Koon, and Theodore Biseno eventually caught up to 27 year old King at Dodger Stadium, where they proceeded to brutally beat him. Witness George Holliday filmed the four officers striking King with their batons over 50 times, and eventually sold the footage to KTLA in Los Angeles, which would soon find itself on news and broadcasts nationwide. This event was eventually taken to trial, where the four police officers involved in the violence against King were not found guilty of assault with a deadly weapon and excessive use of force. After hearing the final verdict, many people throughout the city and beyond were enraged, with even mayor Tom Bradley saying, Today the jury asked us to accept the senseless and brutal beating of a helpless man (Wallenfeldt). Not only were people angry about the verdict of the trial because of the video evidence and obvious ethical issues, but also because of his race and the belief that his civil rights had been violated. The outcome of Rodney King s trial angered many Americans across the country, and eventually caused them to take actions they normally would not. This is a controversial issue that many countries are faced with in nowadays. People analyze this problem by taking both pros and cons into consideration. Some people are in favor of the elderly riding bus for free because they have rights to benefit the giving back from the society to which they devote most of their lifetime. On the other hand, some disapproval voices emerge in terms of influence on the social economy or unequal treatment between the elderly and the others. The reasons why I strongly believe the elderly should receive free bus rides are lacking finance, preventing traffic accidents, and promoting public transportations. A lack of finance is the first reason that the elderly should receive free bus rides. A majority of the elderly is limited in their finance after they got retired; they are sometimes even not able to pay their fundamental living needs such as medicine and groceries. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 12% seniors are living at the poverty level, and their income become lower and lower with increasing age; therefore, they would have difficulty in their constant expenses such as healthcare, housing, food, and so on. The Barbie doll has a great influence on both adults and children. To illustrate, for adults, Barbie doll is grounded in the notion that dolls reinstall the oppressions of patriarchy and the detrimental aspects of capitalism in a dangerous manner under the guise of child s play. In this regard, feminist perspectives on beauty call attention to the high value that patriarchal society places on the attractiveness in women. Therefore, the message to women and young girls is that beauty is a central feature of a woman s identity. Nonetheless, this significant message assigns role for women. Yet, this would only happen when the adults are not looking. Consequently, she stated that adults need a fantasy doll to create their own world where they can act spontaneously like children in fairytales. • 23. The Effect Of Alkaline Phosphatase On Para... A SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC ASSAY OF THE ACTIVITY OF ALKALINE PHOSPHATASE ON PARA NITROPHENYLPHOSPHATE IN THE PRODUCTION OF PARA NITROPHENOL M. Smit1 1 Department of Biological Sciences, University of Cape Town, Rondebosch Introduction: Alkaline phosphatase is a biologically important enzyme, catalysing the hydrolysis of phosphate groups in organic compounds through the process of dephosphorylation. para Nitrophenylphosphate (pPNP) is an example of a chromogenic substrate of this enzyme, because the product of hydrolysis of pPNP is the yellow para nitrophenol (pNP) compound along with inorganic phosphate (McComb, Bowers and Posen, 1979). The Michaelis Menten equation for enzyme kinetics (Murray, 2002) predicts an initially high rate of enzyme activity as the concentration of the substrate is relatively high, followed by a gradual reduction in enzyme activity as the substrate is consumed. The enzyme alkaline phosphatase is also known to be subject to competitive inhibition by inorganic phosphates via the formation of the phospho enzyme, thus blocking the active site to pPNP for dephosphorylation (Kim and Wyckoff, 1991). The enzyme kinetics of alkaline phosphatase on this chemogenic substrate is the focus of this study, in an attempt to determine the trend in the rate at which pNP concentration changes over time and the impact of a high concentration of the inorganic phosphate product on enzyme activity. It is hypothesised that the rate of enzyme activity will initially be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The tournaments were nonchalant, the questions were manageable, and the teams all competed to have a good time, not just to advance. Due to the enjoyable nature of my middle school experience, I decided that I would brave the unknown murky waters of high school scholars bowl. I was under the assumption that it would be the same for the most part; however, this assumption was severely misguided. Strolling into the classroom for my first day of practice, I realized I was surrounded by people who seemed to be far more knowledgeable than me. A prime example would be Macy Davis. Sitting at the front of the room, Mr. Kucharik was manning the buzzer system. Frightened because I was a young naïve freshman, I hesitantly sat down as rumor led me to believe that Mr. K despised freshman. The practice was not at all what I expected and was demanding to say the least. Asking us impossible college level questions, Mr. Kucharik seemed to love watching us struggle; furthermore, the man was sadistic as he transitioned from questions such as What kind of clouds produce thunderstorms? to questions about novels that I d never even heard of. Whether people learned through the Paris Climate Accord or the internet about the devastating effects that a warming climate could bring, most of society can at least acknowledge that climate change is a hot political talking point. Because of this, more and more research has been focused on the effects that a changing climate could bring about. Research on the effects of climate change range from the percentage of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and its effects on global temperatures, to the rate at which glacial ice is melting and sea level rise. This documentary, On Thin Ice, is concerned with the relationship between a warming climate and the rate at which the Gangotri Glacier has been melting over several years. This film discusses the different effects that a rapidly melting Gangotri has on water scarcity in Indian villages located downstream as well as the ways that Americans could be affected by this environmental phenomenon. On Thin Ice begins with the host, David Brancaccio, presenting the main focus of the film: the effects that a warming climate could have on the endangered Gangotri Glacier. Philip Graham Ryken Chapter Summary I like and enjoyed reading on Philip Graham Ryken writing from a very conservatives point of view and his encouragement to the readers to return to the pillars of faith the church once held dear (in the first century). Ryken starts his book with an introduction to postmodernism and identifies these post Christian times as being characterized by relativism and narcissism which is pretty much true in these modern days. From a very conservative point of view Ryken said in order to fight against these modern day contemporary churches which are being characterized by relativism and narcissism and to be a remedy to society, churches need to return to the model of the 1st century church a church that was modeled on teaching, worshiping and caring. Agreement: I am in very much agreement with Ryken s identification on seven objectives for the church: expository preaching, worthy worship, Bible study and fellowship, pastoral care, educational programs, missionary work and service to the church and community. In the line, And they made you change your name, it displays the pressure that she was under in order to achieve her goal of fame. Marilyn Monroe was told to change her name from Norma Jean to Marilyn Monroe in order to become the perfect person that everyone wanted her to become. This made her feel as if she was constantly playing a role and lead to a source of discontentment in her life which led to her untimely death, a devastating consequence of reaching for perfection. Another reference to the song is, Never knowing who to cling to, this represents the loneliness in her life when she achieved her goal of fame. • 36. Comparison Of Descartes And John Locke s View Of The Real... The real world consists of all that is reality, which exists regardless if it is perceived it or not. For example, a person who was born blind has never seen color, but irrespective of the blind person seeing it or not, color still exists in the world. In contrast, the world as we know it is composed of what we perceive with our senses, which may vary from person to person. For example, for the person who was born blind and has never seen color, color would not be a part of their perceived world as it would for someone who has seen it. Although the blind person might have a notion of color, learned from others who can see color, the blind person would still have no direct experience of it as others who can see color do. Both Descartes and Locke distinguish between the real world and the world as we know it. However, there are several points at which their views differ. Locke argues that the ideas we gain from the world are directly experienced through our senses and what we perceive with our senses represents the real world. The article shyness and evolutionary tactic is an interesting article because the current social judgment favors extroverts but does a disservice to introverts who also make important contributions to sociality.
