The Power Of Thinking Without Thinking By Malcolm Gladwell
Books are the most easily driven routes toward education. They present themselves differently to
different readers. We learn by what the dark words say on the bright pages. Authors that write
traditional textbooks are not really singled out in terms of recognition among individuals. However,
authors that talk to their readers but teach them simultaneously in books are the ones we tend to think
about and respect more. Malcolm Gladwell is a stellar example of the latter. This essay will contain
my findings on Malcolm Gladwell and his literature.
Malcolm Gladwell is a journalist, an author, and a public speaker. He s been a staff writer for The New
Yorker since he was 33. He has been featured in Time Magazine s 100 Most Influential People .
Malcolm Gladwell graduated the University of Toronto s Trinity College with a history degree in
1984. In 2005, he published a book that would not only be one of his best sellers, but would also
inspire others to study psychology. The name of that book is called : Blink; The Power of Thinking
Without Thinking.
Blink s overall synopsis contains a tactic that we use to make decisions everyday called thin slicing.
Gladwell often describes thin slicing as a decision made based on our undetected subconscious
opinions and biases. He shines a light of the fact that those decisions are often made within two
seconds and that our subconscious is a locked door. He relates thin slicing to mind reading based on
our memory of facial expressions and

Energy Positioning Factors For Wireless Sensor Network
A Wireless Sensor Network can be composed of large number of tiny of sensor nodes spread in a wide
area and communicating with each other either directly or through routing mechanisms to the other
nodes. One or more of the nodes are the base station with uninterrupted battery source than the other
nodes. Since the devices in WSN are often tiny devices with small form factor the computational
power of these devices is usually small because there will not support large amount of hardware.
Furthermore as the devices are wireless they need to obtain their energy from an inbuilt battery which
in the end needs to be recharged or replaced. If the battery of a device is depleted it needs an
immediate substitution to function further . Since ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
5. Sending control packets in large volume need extra energy if packet is too large.
6. Greater processing facility in sensor node consumes more power.
7. Same event may sense more than one node due to overlapping regions of area of coverage.
8. Collision and retransmission [36][37]
There is a number of power reduction practices must be used both in the design of the circuits and in
the design of network protocols approaches . The major step towards reduced power consumption is a
sound electronic design [32],[34] selecting the efficient circuits and applying suitable design
procedure to each case. Sometimes the most important causes of energy depletion in the WSN node is
the idle mode consumption, when the node is not initiate any communication but listening and waiting
for information from other nodes. Energy loss due to packet collision is also a major issue, causes all
data packets involved in the transmission are discarded and must be retransmitted . Another cause of
energy loss is the wrong routing leads to the reception of packets to non addressed node. Next major
source of energy loss is the transmission and possible retransmission of control packets, as these can
be seen as protocol overhead[26]

The Negative Effects Of Stress
Stress, what is it, how it Affects you and How to Deal With it
Riley C. Keim

Stress, what is it, how it Affects you and How to Deal With it
Stress can have both positive and negative effects on your body. Stress is what gives a person that last
burst of energy in a competition. Stress is what keeps people up at night, what makes them stray from
their normal diet and it can even go as far as making someone physically ill.
What is stress? Stress is one s body s natural response to threats and pressure. Athletes feel stress
during any game or race, students feel stress before a big test or exam. Workers feel stress when they
are assigned to a big project or up for a promotion. Stress causes feelings of nervousness, low energy,
and even tenses us up and makes us feel on edge and easily irritable. When a person is stressed out
their adrenal gland kicks into overdrive causing high levels of adrenaline in the brain.
Distress is negative stress in a person s life. Examples of distress may include,
The death of a family member
The death of a lifelong friend
Separation from your spouse
The end of a long relationship Having money issues
If distress is not handled correctly it can lead to the feelings of hopelessness, irritability, and even
getting physically ill.
Eustress is the good stress in a person s life. Eustress can be caused by events such as
Entering into big tournaments
Being up for a promotion at work
The holiday seasons

Essay Frank McCourts Angelas Ashes
Frank McCourts Angelas Ashes Frank McCourt s Angela s Ashes is a powerful and emotional memoir
of his life from childhood through early adulthood. This book is a wonderfully inspired piece of work
that emotionally attaches the reader through McCourt s life experiences. Its effectiveness is primarily
due to McCourt s evolving innocent eye narrative technique. He allows the reader to experience his
own life in a changeable form. Through this unique story telling technique, the reader is able to watch
Frank grow and evolve. Between the ages of four, eleven and fourteen changes in his writing can be
easily identified. It is evident that the written text, McCourt s thoughts, and the resultant relationship
with the reader evolve and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, he refers to his family standing in the kitchen as big people (106). He is easily confused
and does not understand complex concepts: ...He can have Malachy and the twins for brothers. He can
t have Margaret anymore because she s like the dog in the street that was taken away. I don t know
why she was taken away (43). Concepts such as death and religion are especially difficult for a child
to understand. Mam tells us, That s the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and I want to know why the man s heart
is on fire and why doesn t He throw water on it? (67).
A unique relationship forms between the author and the reader through McCourt s effective show and
tell narrative method. This gives the reader more involvement and greater emotional attachment.
During the first part of this book, he shows the reader, through innocent misunderstandings, that
interpretation is needed in order to fully understand the context: Sometimes he [Mr. Leibowitz] speaks
to Mrs. Leibowitz and I don t understand because strange sounds come from his mouth. Freddie
understands...smiles back and makes the strange sounds (38). Here the reader knows that the strange
sounds are the Leibowitz s speaking another language. Frank does not understand that there are
different languages that people speak other than just English, but the mature reader is informed.
Proceeding into the section of the book where McCourt is eleven years old, the

The Employment Of Contemporary Virtualization Technologies
Cloud Computing

March 1, 2015
Through the employment of contemporary virtualization technologies, with the incorporation of
advanced tools that expands the coverage of the systems administrator, the cost and labor of
operations will be significantly lowered. Efficiency improvement will have a direct impact on
operation costs of many institutions. Resources that could have been used in the buying and
maintaining data center infrastructure will be used in citizen centered services and other new
innovations that can go a long way to assist the citizen and ensure smooth running of the government.
Therefore, cloud computing will be a driving force to ensuring efficiency in the way public resources
are managed to the advantage of the people.
Every public office has a data center infrastructure where its data is stored and retrieved when needed.
In most cases, this infrastructure is underutilized. With cloud computing, the data storage sections are
eliminated because of pooling of IT Infrastructure resources and sharing across a large number of
organizations and offices that are possible with cloud computing. The wastage that is realized when
data centered are not utilized is thus eliminated because different offices have peak seasons in
different times hence making the system to be put in use all year round. This ensures that public assets
are better utilized and loses reduces or even eliminated.
Due to fragmented nature of

The Day I Enlisted During The United States Army
The day I enlisted in the United States Army is the day my life changed and everything else around
me, it is who I am today. Before then, I grew up in a family of five, four boys and one girl. Struggling
day by day just to get around, my mother at that time was the only one working and my father was
politician man and working for the Mayor his right hand man for about four years. Until the new
election came and that s when my father got released from his job. With my mother the only one
working she had many mouths to feed, my dad would do the best he could every day. My dad was like
a jack of all trades as people would say, he is a fisherman, carpenter, cook and other skills I didn t
know he possessed. My father even though he was not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So when I turned eighteen, I and some of my classmates flew to the neighboring island to see the
United States Army Recruiter. My recruiter showed me a video of what an infantryman does and I was
sold, then told him that this is the perfect job for me. I didn t know what I was getting myself into. It
was hard for my parents to accept that I was joining the Army, especially my mom, all she could think
of was that I was going to war and bad things could happen to me. She didn t want me to experience
that kind of life and she couldn t bear the thought of losing one of her own children. So the day I flew
off to basic I told my parents, Everything will be fine trust me . This was my first time leaving the
islands and being away from my family for a good while. So myself and two of my buddies started
basic training together, we stuck together as soon as we got to 30th AG. I didn t know what I was
getting myself into I have never seen so many different people in one area. I have never experienced
being away on my own for the first time, I had no clue what was going on. I wanted to give up and
quit, but I told myself no! I cannot go back home as a quitter, ever since then, my motivation that kept
me going was my family and friends, I wanted them to be proud of who I ve become. I graduated

Religion, Overpopulation And The Environment
In the Baraka there are powerful Images, these images have an impact on the audience as they are
watching the film. In the film Baraka there are symbolic messages that many people might not see or
catch within the film. There are quite a few topics in the film, but the top three that I could see are
religion, overpopulation and the environment. The religion part of the film is about people around the
world that pray and worship gods, they have faith in a higher power which gives them purpose and
belief that there is a reason for what happens as they live on earth. Overpopulation is a huge part of the
environment but, it s a whole separate topic on it s own because it has become a huge hazard in the
world today. The environment is a big part of everyone s future and well being with an impact that can
affect generations to come..
For religion in my opinion, everyone prays differently, some paint their bodies with body paint/ground
up plants and pigments to use for sacred meetings and ceremonies and others gather in a church to
pray and read about their religion. Religion in most cases gives people a higher purpose, helps them to
believe there is a plan a divine intervention of sorts. It guides them in their life and how they lead it. In
a sense keeps people happy. Although it can guide them in some case towards some acts of violence if
interpreted in certain ways. Religion can be made from just a group of people to a whole continent,
but mostly it is all around the world

The Spectacle Theatre Costumes
There are several elements in a play that make it successful. These elements consist of the writer s
plot, theme, characters, dialogue, music and the Spectacle . The Spectacle refers to the visual elements
that make up a play: sets, costumes and special effects. Although costumes are only one small
component in a play, I believe they are very imperative for the overall feel of the audience. The
costumes worn by the performers portray the personality of the character along with the period of time
of the play. According to a Canadian designer, Judith Bowden, The main job of costume design in a
production is to provide physical and emotional support to every actor through the clothing he or she
will wear to enhance characterization ( The costumes designers role ). There is an extensive history of
Costume design in Theater, an each century has importance.
Theatre design has believed to be created from the ancient Greeks. There costumes varied because of
how they grew up living in a ritualized style of theatre. Their costumes consisted of face masks, face
painting s, and even full body paintings. They wore these design s to ... Show more content on

The clothing will accurately reflect the clothing of the appropriate time in history. Costumes are
created for movement. Allowing actors to raise their arms without moving the entire costume or being
able to kick without ripping a seam. The costumes are constructed to be strong enough to endure the
enormous amount of performances for months or even a year. Costumes today are made from natural
fibers like cotton, linen, silk and wool. Styles of costumes design will continue to go in and out,
however, the principle behind costumes remains endless. As Robert Edmond Jones wrote in 1941, A
stage costume is a creation of the theater. Its quality is purely theatrical and taken outside the theater it
loses its magic at once. It dies as a plant dies when uprooted

Dr Heidegger s Experiment Symbolism
Nathaniel Hawthorne, born in 1804, was a Dark Romanticist known for his writing about the sins and
downfalls of humanity. His short story, Dr. Heidegger s Experiment, written in 1837, is about Dr.
Heidegger, an old man, who invites four of his old friends to try his latest experiment, his elixir.
Heidegger tempts his guest by stating the elixir is from the Fountain of Youth. The doctor shows his
guests how the elixer makes a dead rose come alive. He claims the elixir will make them young again.
After drinking the elixir, his guest return to their old sins that they committed when they were young
and naive. Dr. Heidegger s Experiment by Nathaniel Hawthorne is an example of symbolism through
the use of the rose, the characters, and elixir ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Heidegger s Experiment s most fascinating literary features is the characters that Hawthorne
establishes, and the ideas they evoke. Each of the four guest, Colonel Killigrew, Mr. Medbourne, Mr.
Gascoigne, and Widow Wycherley, are invented symbols that each portray a different human vice or
sin. In his youth, Colonel Killigrew was a merchant who lost all his money. Mr. Medbourne wasted his
youth perusing sinful pleasures. Mr. Gascoigne was a corrupt politician with a horrible reputation.
Widow Wycherly, in her prime, was a beautiful woman who became a recluse because of scandalous
stories that were spread about her. When they were given the chance to change their ways, they couldn
t do it. But they were young: their burning passions proved them so. Inflamed to madness by the
coquetry of the girl widow ... the three rivals began to interchange threatening glances. ... They
grappled fiercely at one another s throats. As they struggled to and fro, the table was overturned, and
the vase dashed into a thousand fragments (Hawthorne). Hawthorne is illustrating how powerful sin
can be. When they drank the elixir, and had a second chance, they wasted it. The men fell for the
Widow s beauty and turned on each other. Hawthorne is trying to symbolize sin and the powers of
temptation by having each guest fall into the trap of their

Truss Design Project Essay
Summary
We have designed a truss to support a point load, placed at 190mm from the edge of a 450mm gap.
The vertical face of the trusses is modelled on the already established K truss design, but the overall
shape of the structure is our own. There are three K units on each truss. The two vertical faces are held
together at the top by another truss like design. We modelled this on the N truss.
The truss is constructed from hot dog sticks, glue and bolts.
Introduction
The task was to construct a truss out of 48 hot dog sticks and 30 bolts to support as large a point load
as possible. It was to span a gap of 450mm and to support a load placed at 190mm from the end. The
truss may have a maximum depth beneath the supports of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We began with a simplified curve and flat bottom, but discovered that a slightly curved bottom
distributed the weight more evenly to the truss. The maximum and minimum points of these curves
were best positioned at the point of loading, 190mm from one end.
The more curved the truss, and the greater the number of K units, the more evenly the weight is
distributed. However, the truss structure is limited by the weight of the hot dog sticks used. For this
reason, there are only two K units on the 190mm side, and three on the 270mm side. We have
optimised weight distribution, given the constraint of the weight limit.
The direction in which the Ks point is important. A better distribution of weight can be obtained when
the top diagonal branch of the K points down towards the closest end of the truss. We changed the
design accordingly.
The point where the diagonal members meet on the vertical member of each K affects the weight
distribution. We found that the higher this point is made, the lower the forces in the members.
At first we limited the total length of a member to the length of one popsicle stick; however, by
modelling the centre length as a single member in pure tension, we were able to increase the length of
this member to make the truss stronger.
Since a single hot dog stick can only support an average tension force of 230N and compression load
of not more than 25N, we used the

When a rabbit is involuntarily taken into a home with minimal notice and insufficient means to
prepare, grievance can be expected to an extent. However, in the case that the rabbit was taken from a
home of tranquil cats and placed into one of chaotic dogs, total objection is warranted and granted.
Each pet has earned their own God given right to feel safe and loved in their home. In this event,
Penelope (Penny) the rabbit requests separation from the dogs of the Guyer household on the grounds
that those individuals are a source of stress and potential emotional and physical harm for her. Thus
far, Penelope has tolerated the excessive size of Rocky the golden retriever.
He is far too excitable and has nearly trampled Penelope on many occasions.

He chases Penelope into her cage when he mistakes her binkies for a game, causing her extensive
stress and engaging her predator recognition instincts.
After silent pleas to her humans and obvious distress around the dogs, there has been no improvement
in the living situation. The only solution to her appeals is to keep Penelope encaged more often, thus
keeping her separate from the dogs. This solution only causes the rabbit more stress and
dissatisfaction as she is deprived from the exercise and recreation she requires. Should Penelope
continue to have interaction with the dogs or be fixed into her cage for extended periods of time, she
will have increased stress levels, poor health, and a shortened lifespan.
I, therefore, as Penelope s caretaker and voice, appeal to both the dogs, Rocky and Sammy, and the
owners of the Guyer household, Jeremy and Amy, for Penelope to be allowed free reign of a dog free
space and unlimited exercise for the sake of her physical and mental well being. I stand in solidarity
and support of the humble rabbit and pledge my time, heart, life, and fortune to such a

The Eight Stages Of Armenian Genocide
Throughout history terrible actions and commands were executed, some of these acts were genocides.
Genocide is the deliberate killing of a certain people according to their ethnic, racial or religious
groups. Genocides have occurred within different areas of the world and at different periods of time.
Most genocides have a different history behind it and are executed differently. Armenia and Bosnia are
two areas of the world in which a genocide has taken place.
The religious and cultural differences within the Ottoman Empire caused most of the conflicts that
occurred. Armenia made Christianity its official religion in 4th century A.D and it became part of the
Ottoman Empire, a mainly Muslim region, in the 15th century. Similar to the majority ... Show more

The first stage is classification. There were many different ethnic groups in Yugslavia, however
Bosnian Serbs distinguished themselves as greater and superior to all non Serbs. They belived in the
idea of Greater Serbia. The second stage of genocide is known as symbolization. Bosnian Muslims
were known as Bosniaks and Croatians were seen as inferior. People were forced to wear a crescent
moon with a star which would be used to easily identify their religion. People would see that people
were wearing this symbol and immediately belittle them and treat them differently. The third stage of
genocide is dehumanization. Bosniaks and Croats were considered Aliens. It made them seem less
than human and inferior to the rest of the inhabitants of Yugoslavia. Bosniaks and Croats were
portrayed as evil, harmful, rude and angry. The fourth stage is organization. Ethnic Cleansings were
sent out to regions of Bosnia because it contained the most Bosniaks and Croats. The main goals of
this ethnic cleansing was to push the Non Serbs out of Bosnia with the use of murder, rape and torture.
Concentration camps were also builts and armies were trained to attack them. The fifth stage of
Genocide is polarization. Any communication or interaction that was done between Serbs and non
Serbs was prohibited. Intermarriage between Serbs and Non Serbs was forbidden by new laws. The
sixth stage is preparation. The Serbs

the clinic I will be observing several things. I will be looking to see if Jenny is guarding any region of
her body, I will be observing her gait pattern, I will be looking for any braces or assisted devices and I
will be looking to see if Jenny is in any kind of pain through facial expressions. The reason why I will
be observing is because, if I can notice something about Jenny that seems a little concerning, I then
can ask questions about it during the interview to gain further knowledge about the condition as to
what s wrong. Once Jenny was checked in and situated, I would begin the patient interview. During

I would ask that because this can tell me if Jenny s problem is a chronic injury that has happened due
to microtrauma or an acute injury that was macro trauma. I would ask Jenny about her previous
medical history that included questions as to previous surgeries or fractures, I would also ask if Jenny
has been pregnant recently. The reason I would want to know if Jenny has been pregnant is that
pregnant women are more prone to carpal tunnel syndrome due to the swelling of tissue and
compression of the median nerve in the carpal region, which are related to Jenny s symptoms (Balik,
2014). Lastly, I would ask Jenny if she was or is a smoker, because it has been shown that smoking is
a risk factor for carpal tunnel syndrome (Goodman, 2014). After interviewing Jenny I have now
gained more knowledge about Jenny s condition and have narrowed down the special test and
measures that I want to do later in the examination. The next step in the examination would be a
systems review. The purpose of the systems review is to gain more knowledge about the patients
health and that new knowledge can help guide the plan of care in Jenny s treatment (Fruth, 2014).
There are five components of the systems review that will be done. The first review will be of Jenny s
communication, affect, cognition, and learning style. This would have been done during the interview
portion of the examination. The second review will be cardiopulmonary, this is where Jenny s blood

compare to a basketball game. I also think soccer is the best because, it has other spots in it that you

Assignment On Legislation For Commercial Sex Worker

Introduction There is a huge debate on legislation for commercial sex workers; the ways in which
other forms of law and practice contribute to shaping the working environments of sex workers in
different places is less understood. The consequences of the lack of detection of the sex worker as a
person before the law in this country are barely discussed. Due to the absence of recognized legal
status always restricted to sex workers to get a birth certificate, identity card voter card which is also
violation of human rights, or other means that societies create a different mindset to recognize
individual legal personality, which make it possible to act that profession of sex work is against the
norms and values of the society and make claims in society. It can found easily that the sex worker is
deprived of the profit of citizenship even though they are born the country in which they work. We
draw particular attention to the failure, in many places, to identify sex workers as persons in the front
of law. In the absence of legal rights sex workers are enforceable to claims against office holders,
employers, and basic service providers on brothels that, as a consequence, are not held accountable to
sex workers. Regulation of commercial sex The basic mechanism for controlling sex work is criminal

The Importance Of An Organization Having A Pre Planned Budget
In this research paper I will be explaining the importance of an organization having a pre planned
budget. Without the proper budgeting systems most organizations probably would end up spending
more than their means which could ultimately cause a great amount of hardship. First let me start off
by defining what a budget is, a budget can be defined as the process of creating a plan to spend an
organization or individual s money. (Peavler, 2016) It s always best to create a plan for a budget that is
for six months to a year down the road. Spending plans are an entrepreneur s arrangement of activity
for the business firm. Without a financial plan, the entrepreneur is actually shooting oblivious with
regards to attempting to arrange ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Proprietors need to check whether arranged. According to the article The Advantages of a Flexible
Budget flexible budgeting unlike normal budgeting which uses predictions to make a forecasted
decision on how funds are to be budgeted in an organization. Flexible budgeting allows for an
organization get an idea of how the production or sale volumes are going and allows for changes to be
made. Fixed and Static on the other hand is a predetermined amount that is unable to be changed if
things do not go as plan that is what makes the flexible budget more advantageous. (Davoren, 2016)
The business environment around you changes quickly; thusly, you should adjust to these progressions
to make your business an example of overcoming adversity. Utilizing an flexible budgeting plan
places you in a superior position to oblige these progressions, make convenient operational alterations
and take the best advantages from circumstances that exist in outside situations. For instance, in the
event that you run a transportation and dispatch administration, you might see the expanding expense
of gas and that travel costs are over spending plan. In the event that you utilize an adaptable spending
plan approach, you could name options and set them set up to diminish the expense of these
expansions. (Davoren, 2016) According to the source Strategic Finance author Renita Wolf states that

Dopamine Receptors
INTRODUCTION
In neural signaling, axons transmit trains of action potentials from soma to dendrites, where synaptic
transmission takes place. Until a decade ago it was thought that axonal trunk doesn t play any
important role in neural communication except conducting spikes faithfully. However, it has become
clear that because of the existence of many voltage and ligand gated ion channels in the non synaptic
areas of axons, different neuromodulators, especially monoamines, may have some effects on the
excitability of axonal membrane via activating or deactivating these channels, and therefore, change
the shape or conduction velocity of spikes. Consequently, spikes arriving at the pre synaptic terminals
may not be exactly the same as those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

which spikes could be initiated there, propagate to axonal terminals, and change the output of the

modulate Na+ current, and then inhibit the spike initiation at the axon initial segment. (Cotel, Exley,
Cragg, Perrier, 2013) In addition, like dopamine, the axonal membrane excitability could be increased
by serotonin in the unmyelinated nerve fibers. (Lang, Moalem Taylor, Tracey, Bostock, Grafe,

Taking a Look at Breast Cancer
Nearly one in eight women in the United States will develop breast cancer at some point in her or his
life (Breast Cancer Health Center, 2014). I am sure that almost everyone has been affected by breast
cancer in one way or another, whether they had it or know someone who has had it. My mom s aunt
had breast cancer, as did my dad s mother. My great aunt luckily caught it early on and had it taken
care of. Unfortunately, my grandmother caught it too late; it had spread all over her body and
eventually ended up being the cause of her death. It is important to know the risk factors of developing
breast cancer and what you can do to help prevent it, as well as knowing treatment options if you or
someone you know is diagnosed with it.
Breast cancer develops in the breast tissue. It develops primarily in the milk ducts or glands, and can
travel to other parts of the body. Even if it has traveled elsewhere, it is still called breast cancer. If it
has spread, it will usually be referred to as metastatic or advanced breast cancer (Breast Cancer Health
Center, 2014).
Although breast cancer can occur in both males and females, it is a lot more common in females. In
fact, men account for just one percent of all breast cancer cases. Breast cancer is the most common
cancer among women. In addition, it is the second leading cause of cancer deaths only being preceded
by lung cancer. Early detection of breast cancer can be lifesaving. If breast cancer is detected early on,

Essay Fucus Sprial Research on Water
Coal is found in deeper layers of earth. To retrieve coal from those layers, underground tunnels need to
build. These underground tunnels tend to fill with ground water. To prevent this, steam pumps were
installed to keep the tunnels dry. The groundwater pumped out of the mines is comparatively clean
(Wilkinson 2011, 3).
Once the steam pump is shut off, the underground water is able to fill up the abandoned mine over
years. After all tunnels are filled up, the water finds a way to release itself. This is called natural
drainage water (Wilkinson 2011, 3). In case of the project, this happens through the outfall which is
right above high water spring tide. The water that is released through the outfall is not as clean as the

During spring tide, the tidal amplitude is very large.
The opposite is called neap tide and occurs when sun and moon are at right angles. The gravitational
attractions act in opposition and the tidal amplitude is very low.
7.4 Rocky shore
These shores were shaped by different natural forces. Those forces include the rise and fall of tides,
wind, intensity of waves and variation in temperature. They consist of rocky ledges, boulders and
pebbles. Furthermore, pools with seawater can be found.
Rocky shores can be divided into different zones, according to vertical height. The zones vary in
diversity (see Fig. 6) and most species are adapted to a specific zone (Little 2009, 17).
The top of the shore is bare rock and living organisms such as littorinid snails or lichens can be found
there. This zone is called splash zone as it above high tide mark and therefore perpetually out of water
(Little 2009, 18).
The second zone is called littoral zone (or intertidal) and has its boundaries defined as distance
between very highest and very lowest spring tide. The lower, middle and upper shore are included into
this zone and there is a varying degree of exposure to seawater, depending on the tide. Organisms
living there must be able to cope with fluctuating air and breaking waves. Rock pools and Fucus
spiralis are found in this part of the rocky shore (Little 2009, 18).
The lowest zone is the so called sublittorial zone and

How Is Music Used In The Joker
Music plays an important role in a films experience. It is significant in films because it sets the tone as
well as enhances the film in many different aspects. It is meant to engage the audience and evoke
emotion from them. The Dark Knight is arguably the best movie within the Batman Trilogy by
Christopher Nolan. Simply put the film is just epic. Yes the action is great and the late Heath Ledger s
portrayal of The Joker is superb, but it s the film s original score from Hans Zimmer and James
Newton Howard that gives The Dark Knight it s grand feeling. The movies opening scene starts off
with the track Why So Serious . This track is used for almost every scene The Joker is present in The
Dark Knight. The sound is strange and gives an uneasy feel which matches perfectly with the type of
character The Joker is, unpleasant. It has the effect that it makes us ... Show more content on

portrays how much beyond normal intellect the Joker is. It gives us the opportunity to stop a second
during the movie and notice all the issues about the Joker. It is a personal moment of conquest for him.
Christopher Nolan is trying to hint that the Joker says a lot of true things in the film. He leaves you
almost one hundred percent incapable of disagreeing with him. The silence in this scene proves itself
most dramatic and would have been less effective with music in my

Vlad was the Prince of the Wallachian kingdom (also referred as the Voivode of Wallachia, which
means the same) in three different occasions which nowadays doesn t exist, but it was located at the
south of the actual Romania. He achieved the throne after his father was killed. Some quotations of the
Dracula book that I consider as references to the fact that Vlad the Impaler was a prince and a member
of the high class, are the next ones: It is late, and my people are not available (page 24).
This quotation may not be a clear one, but I think it is and I am going to explained it: a prince is the

The last think I want to talk about in this essay is about the movie Bram Stoker s Dracula from the

Dracula became a vampire and it is said that he was a warrior called Draculea, from the Order of the
Dragon, who fought to protect the Christian world. What s more, in the scene where Dracula
welcomes Jonathan Harker into his castle, there is a conversation about a picture hanging in a wall.
Harker asks the Count who is the man on the picture and he tells him that it is an ancestor of him from
the order of the Dragon.

Carlo Scarpa s Approach And Theory
INTRODUCTION AND BUILDING HISTORY
Carlo Scarpa s approach and theory to designing with existing buildings is an innovation that is
relevant to buildings even today. The Castelvecchio museum is one of his greatest projects, and
thoroughly reveals his way of working. Scarpas intention was not only to restore an aging building but
to do so in a way that creates dialogue between the new and the old. By careful work of demolition
and preservation, he literally cuts, shifts and adds elements to the existing building in order to create
an exhibition of the building s past, and its connection to modernity.
In order for him to make informed decisions about what to preserve and what to demolish, he had to
have a thorough understanding of the building s political history. The Castelvecchio dates back as far
as the 12th century, and has undergone four eras of development in its lifetime. The commune wall is
the oldest element in the building and was the second of three large fortifications in Verona (Fig 1.1).
In 1354, the Castelvecchio was built by the Scaligeri family, the Lords of Verona, and was built for
their own defense against the citizens for times of revolt. It was built either side of the commune wall,
and consisted of a three story residence or Reggia around an inner court and an outer military zone
(Fig 1.2). The Castelvecchio continued this military function until 1797, where Napoleon and his
troops claimed residence during his invasion over the Venetian Republic. This

Speed or Tempo: What is the difference?

Speed or Tempo: What is the difference?
Speed in terms of command and control is the ability to shorten the time needed to make key
decisions, plans, coordinate as well as communicate. Whereas tempo is acting at the right time as well
as acting the fastest or the earliest, the main importance between the two is speed is the ability to
shorten the time between the decisions being made whereas tempo, is implementing the right timing

The Importance Of Superstitions In Sports
One doesn t acquire superstitions, curses, or obsession out of nowhere towards a sports team. It s
something that s involuntarily part of someone when they participate in these gatherings with other
sports fans. Having a passion specifically for a team could get a crowd riled up, so when they begin to
lose, people try to generalize what could have caused the circumstance.
Fear of one s team being in a losing streak, who never seem to win, sports fans try to hold on to a
sense of hope and something to believe in that could explain the reasoning as to why they haven t won
for a period of time. However, there is no logical evidence that superstitious or curses are the cause of
a team lost in a game.
Being a fan of a sports team, specifically baseball, could result in being prone to believing the curses
or superstitious that comes with the team when they have lost. People are always trying to fill in the
gaps of what could cause such a loss, and when they can t find a legitimate reason they direct their
attention to superstition. Many attribute it to events that occurred earlier that could be the cause of a
team losing, even though the event could have no relation to the outcome of the game. Before the
Chicago Cubs won the World Series in 2016, ending the 108 year old drought that began in 1908, a
curse began to surface called the Curse of the Billy Goat. When a Cubs fan was ejected from Wrigley
field after many people complained about the smell

Queen Matilda Of England And The Marriage Table A Dowry Of...
Queen Matilda of England brought to the marriage table a dowry of estates. While, she did not grant
William great wealth, she did possess great wealth of her own. Roughly one fourth of the wealth of
Matilda and William belonged to Matilda. She presented her husband with the ship the Mora as a
symbol of her approval of his conquest of England. Matilda, being well educated and capable, served
as regent of Normandy while her husband was away in England. Matilda made the journey to England
in 1068 where she was crowned Queen of England. Matilda, like many queens of her time, actively
participated in government. Roughly one hundred charters bear Matilda s name, suggesting that she
occasionally maintained full responsibility of Normandy in her husband s absence. Matilda became a
wealthy landowner in England, where she held lands in the counties of Surrey, Hampshire, Wiltshire,
Dorset, Devon, Cornwall, Buckinghamshire, and Gloucestershire. She maintained contact with her
family in Flanders and even provided William with Flemish men for his army. She was also a key
player in King William s rule of England, hearing land pleas and negotiating with nobles. Matilda
played a lesser role in foreign politics than her husband. She did, however, maintain contacts with the
Church. She sent gifts to French abbots and German hermits along with open contact with Pope
Gregory VII. Pope Gregory VII encouraged Matilda to bring her husband closer to the church where

Nowadays, logistics companies are becoming significantly vital in our world and it has a major role
within the economy. However, any logistics company should set logistics strategies in order to achieve
their goals and there are many logistics and supply chain strategies that companies can make.
Therefore, this report will firstly define the logistics strategy and then explain how the car making

Generally, logistics strategy has three different goals such as, cost reduction, capital reduction and
service improvement. Firstly, the cost reduction is strategy which is minimising the variable costs
associated with storage and movement and the great strategy is formulated by estimating different
courses of action, such as, choosing between different warehouse locations or selecting between
different modes of transport. However, the main goal is still to achieve maximum profit. Secondly,

I chose to write about the short story A P. The story takes place in a small town in the late 60 s, in a

low maintenance town where everybody knows everybody (very tight community) most likely old
school beliefs and structures (religion, dress code, ethics, morals, ext strict) and for a short time
tourists come to live for a while, and in a sense shake up the foundation of the town a bit with their

embarrassing I would say, for these women to flaunt their extremities. It was not clear what set the
manager off but the women were told to quickly pay and leave. During this argument between the
primped and polished girls and the old grey dusty store manager Sammy very bravely stands up, from
what I believe to impress these women and to show them that he can not only stand up for them but
stand up to his superior, risk his job, and make a scene. For What?! Just for them to walk out of the
store never to look back, never to show appreciation, and never to see Sammy again. Hell of a first
impression if you ask me. But then again the author never explained any past occurrences at the store
that might have led to this, and this might have been just the last straw possibly for Sammy. Maybe he
was fed up with his work, and he saw the chance to quit and look tough and manly, also make a big
stink in front of Queenie and her cronies. (The women in the story) To me this seems very
unreasonable to make an ass out of yourself, if it is just for a couple of girls that I m sure in his mind

Out Of The Dust Character Analysis
The novel Out of the Dust, by Karen Hesse is a story that teaches great lessons and a story could have
happened to anyone or make an impact on anyone s life. In this novel, there is a young girl named
Billie Jo. She has a rough life with not a lot of good things mixed in. She has a lot of downfalls in her
life with a couple of uprisings. Even though she doesn t have the best life she is grateful for what she
does have. Her life taught me and could teach others to be thankful and grateful for what you have and
to live life to the fullest. Also to keep pushing through the hard times, soon good things will come out
of it because everything happens for a reason. Billie Jo s life was the one that you wouldn t call a
dream life to have. She had a really rough life. In the beginning of the novel, her family didn t have
much money at all which meant if someone was sick, injured, or even hungry it was hard to please
them. They also had a lot of dust that ruined their crops and what they all had, which also meant they
couldn t do anything about it because they had little and not a lot to thrive off of. Here are a few
examples of how she had a very unpleasant life. Billie Jo and her mother got burned very badly from a
pail of kerosene. This burned her mom s whole body while she was pregnant with a baby boy and it
burned Billie Jo s hands so harshly that it was almost impossible to play the piano. They could not
seek any medical attention from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

life you have right now compared to how it was back

Supernatural Elements And Supernatural Elements In...
Supernatural and temporal elements are popular devices used in romantic literature. Supernatural
elements are things that go beyond the natural realm such as spirits and demons, and temporal
elements are a part of the physical world such as nature and flaws in humanity. Nathaniel Hawthorne s
The Scarlet Letter, a romantic novel, consists of mystic and secular facets that enhance the plot and
tone of the novel as well as creating conflicts. Supernatural elements provide contrast between Puritan
beliefs and witchcraft, and temporal elements provide contrast between the sins and flaws of society
and the purity of nature. The devil is a supernatural being that imposes itself into the character, Roger
Chillingworth. The temporal fault of hypocrisy shows in Dimmesdale s character and the judgmental
nature of the townspeople. The role of the forest is both a supernatural and temporal element because
it is a very spiritual place and provides an escape from the secular world. Hawthorne uses dark
supernatural elements to characterize Roger Chillingworth. Hester s affair makes Chillingworth an
envious and vengeful man, and his need for revenge turns him into a fiend. Chillingworth s physical
appearance changes for the worst in the course of seven years, old Roger Chillingworth was a striking
evidence of man s faculty of transforming himself into a devil (Hawthorne 156). Chillingworth s
appearance changes from a studious and scholarly man to a stooped and deformed creature with red
glowing eyes. Pearl observes Chillingworth s hideous and terrifying features and suspects that he is
the Black Man. Not only is Chillingworth s appearance effected by the supernatural elements of the
devil, his demonic character is exposed when he leeches onto Dimmesdale. Chillingworth seems to
embrace his demonic identity when Hester condemns him for torturing Dimmesdale and making his
life hell. Chillingworth admits to doing so, but refuses to stop because Dimmesdale deserves it.
Hawthorne uses the evil supernatural elements of the devil to make Roger Chillingworth a symbol of
the Black Man. His reason for doing so provides grave conflict in the lives of Hester, Pearl, and
especially Dimmesdale. The comparison of Chillingworth to the devil

Thomas J. Dodd Research Study Sample
This study is centered around undergraduate and graduate students between the ages of 18 and 25
years old. The undergraduate and graduate students from psychology and sociology classes at the
University of Connecticut are recruited to participate in a self report survey. A random sample of 240
students will be acquired, 120 males and 120 females. These students will range from different races,
ethnicities, and socio economic background. The participants will first be clustered based on gender,
then subcategorized by social class, race, and where these participants originally reside. The clusters
will allow researchers to view the differing statistics of each characteristic and hopefully distinguish
correlations. One hundred and twenty ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The outcome of the study may lead to inaccurate results because the participant pool does not properly
portray the population in which the study is collecting data. As a means to account for this source of
bias, the study could possibly be opened up to the public instead of privately selecting participants
from the university. This way participants come from all backgrounds not only undergraduates and
graduates. This study only makes generalizations from the population of 18 through 25 year old young
adults who are undergraduates or graduates that have dealt with parents whom suffer from alcoholism,
substance use, and mental illness. The study does not generalize the population of 18 through 25 year
olds that are not in college. This population that does not attend college are hard to obtain for research
and so they will not be represented in the study. The sample s responses to the survey will allow
researchers to make inferences of the behavior of the population of 18 through 25 year olds who are in
college.
Procedures
The data will be recorded from a series of surveys and questionnaires. The questionnaires will be
similar to the ones used in the Williams and Corrigan study. Williams and Corrigan (1992) had
participants complete the Children of Alcoholics Screening Test, the Relative Psychiatric History
Questionnaire, Coopersmith Self Esteem Inventory for adults, State Trait Anxiety Inventory, and the

My Catholic Experience Paper
Well I grew up in a Catholic family with a grandmother who was very spiritual, and even had her own
room with hundreds of saints, and she would pray to them for different requests. I never really
understood church or many of the Bible stories. The church services were so discipline to me, and felt
like a punishment because of the standing and kneeling all through out the service. I moved away with
my mother and siblings and we ended up staying at this homeless shelter that was ran by a non
denominational church, so part of our agreement to stay was to attend this church. I found this church
to be open to anyone and everyone, and during our time their I got baptized. I enjoyed this church.
From that time I never really considered myself Catholic, because I could never ... Show more content

Which now I know that Jesus was God s way of giving salvation for everyone including the Gentiles.
The only way this could happen was through Jesus sacrifice, which replaced the animal sacrifices that
were required. The Old Testament being the original text for God s people, but they continued to turn
their back on God, so God provided himself as Jesus and the New Testament as a guideline for all
believers to live by. Many other questions about my experience with Catholisum for example, praying
to saints, and the importance placed on the Virgin Mary. After further research I came up with the
opinion that praying to saints goes against what the Bible states, which is that the only way to God is
through Jesus Christ. While I do agree that Mary was an important figure in our religion, but I don t
place her in the same category as Jesus. I also don t agree with how people are voted into sainthood by
other humans, because humans are all sinners, so if humans vote in saints, then these saints will be

Genetic Macromolecules
Biological evolution begins with the origin of life, but the subject is the perhaps the most
interdisciplinary of any in science. Understanding how life began on Earth requires knowledge of the
astronomical, geological, and atmospheric settings. However, those settings are in turn dependent on
knowing the time period when life arose, which comes from the fossil and molecular records,
including molecular clocks based on genetic mutations. Interrelated with the setting is the chemistry
that generates the organic molecules used to assemble the first cells and carry the genetic information
to successive generations of cells. But holding the chemical reactions and products together in a cell
requires a membrane, and the assembly of that involves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The last 60 years have witnessed chemists developing an understanding of organocatalysis and ligand
field theory, both of which give demonstrable low molecular weight catalysts. We assume that
transition metal ligand complexes are likely to have occurred in the deep ocean trenches by the
combination of naturally occurring oceanic metals and ligands synthesized from the emergent CO(2),
H(2), NH(3), H(2)S, and H(3)PO(4). We are now in a position to investigate experimentally the metal
ligand complexes, their catalytic function, and the reaction networks that could have played a role in
the development of metabolism and life itself.a self propelled oil droplet system based on fatty acid
chemistry. This system exhibits symmetry breaking with four characteristics: directional internal
convective flow, directional external water flow, directional product release, and a self generated pH
gradient. The simple ingredients oil with acid producing precursor and alkaline water with surfactant
work in concert to produce sustained autonomous motion. The supramolecular structure itself contains
the chemistry that fuels its movement. The system produces not only more surfactant but protons
resulting in acidification of the environment immediately surrounding the oil droplet. The droplet
successfully moves away from this waste product into fresh unmodified alkaline solution and even
displays a primitive form of chemotaxis. Although this mechanism of movement is unlike mechanisms
of motility employed by natural cellular life, directed motion by convection may be useful in an
artificial cell context in the avoidance or delay of chemical

Little Miss Sunshine is the story of a little girl named Olive who has a dream of winning the Little
Miss Sunshine beauty contest. Olive comes from a family that is full of problems. Her father (Richard
Hoover) is a motivational speaker who is desperately trying to sell his 9 step program for success, her
brother (Dwayne) has taken a vow of silence to join the Air Force Academy, her uncle (Frank
Ginsberg) is a homosexual Proust scholar who attempted suicide after a failed attempt at a relationship
with the love of his life, and her grandfather (Edwin Hoover) who is a drug addict who was kicked out
of his retirement home for snorting heroin. Through all the problems the family faces they come

The Negative Effects Of Video Games On Child Development
The media is a platform that gives instant access all over the world and an unlimited amount of
resources. It also provides immense opportunities for learning and skill development. However, the
media also causes negative impacts on learning, physical health, and development. As the media
grows and develops everyday, it constantly draws the public s attention and concerns in divided
opinions.
Bavelier, Eichenbaum, and Green (2014) explained the positive aspects of video games on individuals
skills and abilities. Video games were found to improve one s mental capacities that decline with age
and promote work skills. Not only did video game players acquire skills, they improved perceptual
and cognitive processing such as working memory and abstract reasoning because games enforced
players to constantly keep track of many items simultaneously in various levels of perception and
cognition. Action video games especially enhanced the players vision in contrast sensitivity, crowded
acuity, visual selective attention, and multiple object tracking tasks. Additionally, action gamers
showed improved attention in executive functions such as sustained attention block, impulsivity block,
dual tasking, and task switching. To take a step further, video games can be applied to real life for
medical purposes to help correct vision for those with amblyopia, train visual attention for dyslexic
children, and educate children about illnesses.

Essay about Outsourcing at Office Supply Inc. Case
INTRODUCTION
Office Supply Incorporated (OSI) is a company in crisis, with challenges in its cost structure and poor
IT performance. Outsourcing to Technology Infrastructure Solutions (TIS) is an opportunity to both
reduce costs and complexity for the firm, but first must consider whether outsourcing is a good
strategic fit for OSI. Outsourcing is known as the practice of turning over responsibility of some or all
of organizations information systems to a foreign firm in order to stay competitive. Outsourcing is not
new to the business world, as it dominated the manufacturing sector the past couple of decades. There
are various advantages and disadvantages. Advantages include lower costs, better quality, and
downsizing to focus on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Besides, the facilities maintenance for TIS would be less expensive because it could more effectively
manage floor space, heating and air conditioning, and power consumption, and its facility was located
in a less expensive city. Lastly, TIS had less disaster recovery and corporate overhead costs because it
had more efficient management and economies of scale.
Outsourcing would allow the OSI to focus only on its core business and would be more cost effective
for it to reduce capital infrastructure costs. Also improving employee satisfaction with higher value
addition jobs and making the best use of competitive resources available worldwide. Using an
outsourced company (TIS) would give it the same standard hardware and software platform. And
should be high speed and have a lower cost of Telecommunications.
Additional, here are a series of themes that explain most of the pressures for OSI to outsource. First of
all, managers concerns about cost and quality drive outsourcing. The same issues such as getting
existing services for a reduced price at acceptable quality standard came up repeatedly. Second, failure
to meet service standards can force management to find other ways of achieving reliability. Finding a
company in which cumulative IT management neglect eventually culminated in an out of control
situation from which the current IT

Practice Safe Text Essay
As a result of millions of injuries and deaths among the people of our country, cell phone use, and
more specifically texting while driving, has become a big issue. Since texting and driving is a big
issue, there are active and upcoming ways to stop it. Throughout the recent years, there have been
hundreds of campaigns as well as ads on television, and in magazines to convince people to stop the
use of cell phones while driving. Technology in cars is also being built to address the issue of texting
and driving behind the wheel. There needs to be steps taken to address the rising number of cell phone
related accidents, and if these don t adequately help the situation, then there needs to be law
enforcement set up to keep people off of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The majority of people who text and drive are not aware of the consequences that follow their actions.
States and counties throughout the US are enforcing distracted driving laws that ban texting while
driving. Careless and reckless driving can lead to driving charges, giving every driver a reason to stay
off their phones. 5 potential consequences of texting while driving behind the wheel are tickets,
getting points on driver s license, insurance penalties, criminal charges, and the feeling of guilt. Are
people willing to give up their freedom, finances, and desolate their own conscience? Throughout the
recent years, there have been hundreds of campaigns as well as ads on television, and in magazines to
convince people to stop the use of cell phones while driving. For example, AT T is most well known
for their advertisements against texting and driving. Since texting and driving is a big issue, there are
active and upcoming ways to stop it. A very popular campaign advertised by celebrities is the It Can
Wait pledge. This campaigns motto simply is No text is worth the risk, it can wait. Many commercials
show Public Service Announcements, about celebrities showing the risk of texting while driving and
even some of their own personal experiences with the issue. In addition, technology in cars is also
being built to address the issue of texting and

Summary Of The Post American World
In the book The Post American World, by Fareed Zakaria, he spoke of the three economical shifts in
the world throughout history. Each one of these shifts has changed the world drastically, with political,
culture, and of course, economical differences in every country in the world. What Zakaria had
brought to my attention very early in the book was that we are currently living through the third
economical shift right now. To be honest, I had never really thought about where the world was
heading, and if I hadn t read this book, I would ve thought that the United States would remain the
main superpower in the world and the rest of the world would sort of stay at their current status. Poor
countries would remain poor, and every developed country ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

As these countries adopt certain programs from the United States and improve them to make the
benefits better to help people gain more money, to grow their economies, America is being left in the
dust. As he says in the interview with BBC. The United States needs to reboot, and make changes in
its health care, pensions, social security, and energy (BBC, Zakaria). As the United States is for the
first time in a long time subject to a change in the world rather than making that change, the United
States will have to make some major changes to either keep up or get ahead of the other rising
countries. As Zakaria describes these possible changes it would literally change life in the U.S that we
have now, but change it for the better. This is shown by Zakaria s confidence in the U.S to always do
what has to be done, no matter what the circumstances. From this book Zakaria has taught me and all
of of his other readers that big changes are coming. That history as we know it is slowly being
rewritten as we know it. That what was seen as impossible even 10 years ago is a reality and we are
living through it, how exciting! The United States won t be the main superpower of the world,
countries we would never expect to rise economically are rising the superpower penthouse is growing.
Zaharia believes this Post American world will

  • 2. The Power Of Thinking Without Thinking By Malcolm Gladwell Books are the most easily driven routes toward education. They present themselves differently to different readers. We learn by what the dark words say on the bright pages. Authors that write traditional textbooks are not really singled out in terms of recognition among individuals. However, authors that talk to their readers but teach them simultaneously in books are the ones we tend to think about and respect more. Malcolm Gladwell is a stellar example of the latter. This essay will contain my findings on Malcolm Gladwell and his literature. Malcolm Gladwell is a journalist, an author, and a public speaker. He s been a staff writer for The New Yorker since he was 33. He has been featured in Time Magazine s 100 Most Influential People . Malcolm Gladwell graduated the University of Toronto s Trinity College with a history degree in 1984. In 2005, he published a book that would not only be one of his best sellers, but would also inspire others to study psychology. The name of that book is called : Blink; The Power of Thinking Without Thinking. Blink s overall synopsis contains a tactic that we use to make decisions everyday called thin slicing. Gladwell often describes thin slicing as a decision made based on our undetected subconscious opinions and biases. He shines a light of the fact that those decisions are often made within two seconds and that our subconscious is a locked door. He relates thin slicing to mind reading based on our memory of facial expressions and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Energy Positioning Factors For Wireless Sensor Network A Wireless Sensor Network can be composed of large number of tiny of sensor nodes spread in a wide area and communicating with each other either directly or through routing mechanisms to the other nodes. One or more of the nodes are the base station with uninterrupted battery source than the other nodes. Since the devices in WSN are often tiny devices with small form factor the computational power of these devices is usually small because there will not support large amount of hardware. Furthermore as the devices are wireless they need to obtain their energy from an inbuilt battery which in the end needs to be recharged or replaced. If the battery of a device is depleted it needs an immediate substitution to function further . Since ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 5. The major step towards reduced power consumption is a sound electronic design [32],[34] selecting the efficient circuits and applying suitable design procedure to each case. Sometimes the most important causes of energy depletion in the WSN node is the idle mode consumption, when the node is not initiate any communication but listening and waiting for information from other nodes. Energy loss due to packet collision is also a major issue, causes all data packets involved in the transmission are discarded and must be retransmitted . Another cause of energy loss is the wrong routing leads to the reception of packets to non addressed node. Next major source of energy loss is the transmission and possible retransmission of control packets, as these can be seen as protocol overhead[26] 4.2 General Energy saving methods Time Synchronization In WSN Time ... • 4. The Negative Effects Of Stress Stress, what is it, how it Affects you and How to Deal With it Riley C. Keim Culver Stockton College Stress, what is it, how it Affects you and How to Deal With it Stress can have both positive and negative effects on your body. Stress is what gives a person that last burst of energy in a competition. Stress is what keeps people up at night, what makes them stray from their normal diet and it can even go as far as making someone physically ill. What is stress? Stress is one s body s natural response to threats and pressure. Athletes feel stress during any game or race, students feel stress before a big test or exam. Workers feel stress when they are assigned to a big project or up for a promotion. Stress causes feelings of nervousness, low energy, and even tenses us up and makes us feel on edge and easily irritable. When a person is stressed out their adrenal gland kicks into overdrive causing high levels of adrenaline in the brain. Distress is negative stress in a person s life. Examples of distress may include, The death of a family member The death of a lifelong friend Separation from your spouse The end of a long relationship Having money issues If distress is not handled correctly it can lead to the feelings of hopelessness, irritability, and even getting physically ill. Eustress is the good stress in a person s life. Eustress can be caused by events such as Entering into big tournaments Being up for a promotion at work The holiday seasons Going on ... This book is a wonderfully inspired piece of work that emotionally attaches the reader through McCourt s life experiences. Its effectiveness is primarily due to McCourt s evolving innocent eye narrative technique. He allows the reader to experience his own life in a changeable form. Through this unique story telling technique, the reader is able to watch Frank grow and evolve. Between the ages of four, eleven and fourteen changes in his writing can be easily identified. Concepts such as death and religion are especially difficult for a child to understand. Mam tells us, That s the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and I want to know why the man s heart is on fire and why doesn t He throw water on it? (67). A unique relationship forms between the author and the reader through McCourt s effective show and tell narrative method. This gives the reader more involvement and greater emotional attachment. During the first part of this book, he shows the reader, through innocent misunderstandings, that interpretation is needed in order to fully understand the context: Sometimes he [Mr. Leibowitz] speaks to Mrs. Leibowitz and I don t understand because strange sounds come from his mouth. Freddie understands...smiles back and makes the strange sounds (38). Here the reader knows that the strange sounds are the Leibowitz s speaking another language. Frank does not understand that there are different languages that people speak other than just English, but the mature reader is informed. The Employment Of Contemporary Virtualization Technologies Cloud Computing Anthony D Payne CSIA 412 Professor Miller March 1, 2015 Through the employment of contemporary virtualization technologies, with the incorporation of advanced tools that expands the coverage of the systems administrator, the cost and labor of operations will be significantly lowered. Efficiency improvement will have a direct impact on operation costs of many institutions. Resources that could have been used in the buying and maintaining data center infrastructure will be used in citizen centered services and other new innovations that can go a long way to assist the citizen and ensure smooth running of the government. Therefore, cloud computing will be a driving force to ensuring efficiency in the way public resources are managed to the advantage of the people. Every public office has a data center infrastructure where its data is stored and retrieved when needed. In most cases, this infrastructure is underutilized. With cloud computing, the data storage sections are eliminated because of pooling of IT Infrastructure resources and sharing across a large number of organizations and offices that are possible with cloud computing. The wastage that is realized when data centered are not utilized is thus eliminated because different offices have peak seasons in different times hence making the system to be put in use all year round. This ensures that public assets are better utilized and loses reduces or even eliminated. Due to fragmented nature of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Religion, Overpopulation And The Environment In the Baraka there are powerful Images, these images have an impact on the audience as they are watching the film. In the film Baraka there are symbolic messages that many people might not see or catch within the film. There are quite a few topics in the film, but the top three that I could see are religion, overpopulation and the environment. The religion part of the film is about people around the world that pray and worship gods, they have faith in a higher power which gives them purpose and belief that there is a reason for what happens as they live on earth. Overpopulation is a huge part of the environment but, it s a whole separate topic on it s own because it has become a huge hazard in the world today. The environment is a big part of everyone s future and well being with an impact that can affect generations to come.. For religion in my opinion, everyone prays differently, some paint their bodies with body paint/ground up plants and pigments to use for sacred meetings and ceremonies and others gather in a church to pray and read about their religion. Religion in most cases gives people a higher purpose, helps them to believe there is a plan a divine intervention of sorts. It guides them in their life and how they lead it. In a sense keeps people happy. Although it can guide them in some case towards some acts of violence if interpreted in certain ways. The Spectacle refers to the visual elements that make up a play: sets, costumes and special effects. Although costumes are only one small component in a play, I believe they are very imperative for the overall feel of the audience. The costumes worn by the performers portray the personality of the character along with the period of time of the play. According to a Canadian designer, Judith Bowden, The main job of costume design in a production is to provide physical and emotional support to every actor through the clothing he or she will wear to enhance characterization ( The costumes designers role ). There is an extensive history of Costume design in Theater, an each century has importance. Theatre design has believed to be created from the ancient Greeks. In his youth, Colonel Killigrew was a merchant who lost all his money. Mr. Medbourne wasted his youth perusing sinful pleasures. Mr. Gascoigne was a corrupt politician with a horrible reputation. Widow Wycherly, in her prime, was a beautiful woman who became a recluse because of scandalous stories that were spread about her. • 11. Truss Design Project Essay Summary We have designed a truss to support a point load, placed at 190mm from the edge of a 450mm gap. The vertical face of the trusses is modelled on the already established K truss design, but the overall shape of the structure is our own. There are three K units on each truss. The two vertical faces are held together at the top by another truss like design. We modelled this on the N truss. The truss is constructed from hot dog sticks, glue and bolts. Introduction The task was to construct a truss out of 48 hot dog sticks and 30 bolts to support as large a point load as possible. It was to span a gap of 450mm and to support a load placed at 190mm from the end. The truss may have a maximum depth beneath the supports of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We began with a simplified curve and flat bottom, but discovered that a slightly curved bottom distributed the weight more evenly to the truss. The maximum and minimum points of these curves were best positioned at the point of loading, 190mm from one end. The more curved the truss, and the greater the number of K units, the more evenly the weight is distributed. However, the truss structure is limited by the weight of the hot dog sticks used. For this reason, there are only two K units on the 190mm side, and three on the 270mm side. We have optimised weight distribution, given the constraint of the weight limit. The direction in which the Ks point is important. A better distribution of weight can be obtained when the top diagonal branch of the K points down towards the closest end of the truss. We changed the design accordingly. The point where the diagonal members meet on the vertical member of each K affects the weight distribution. We found that the higher this point is made, the lower the forces in the members. At first we limited the total length of a member to the length of one popsicle stick; however, by modelling the centre length as a single member in pure tension, we were able to increase the length of this member to make the truss stronger. Since a single hot dog stick can only support an average tension force of 230N and compression load of not more than 25N, we used the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I am sure that almost everyone has been affected by breast cancer in one way or another, whether they had it or know someone who has had it. My mom s aunt had breast cancer, as did my dad s mother. My great aunt luckily caught it early on and had it taken care of. Unfortunately, my grandmother caught it too late; it had spread all over her body and eventually ended up being the cause of her death. It is important to know the risk factors of developing breast cancer and what you can do to help prevent it, as well as knowing treatment options if you or someone you know is diagnosed with it. Breast cancer develops in the breast tissue. It develops primarily in the milk ducts or glands, and can travel to other parts of the body. Even if it has traveled elsewhere, it is still called breast cancer. If it has spread, it will usually be referred to as metastatic or advanced breast cancer (Breast Cancer Health Center, 2014). Although breast cancer can occur in both males and females, it is a lot more common in females. In fact, men account for just one percent of all breast cancer cases. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women. In addition, it is the second leading cause of cancer deaths only being preceded by lung cancer. Early detection of breast cancer can be lifesaving. If breast cancer is detected early on, it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Essay Fucus Sprial Research on Water Coal is found in deeper layers of earth. To retrieve coal from those layers, underground tunnels need to build. These underground tunnels tend to fill with ground water. To prevent this, steam pumps were installed to keep the tunnels dry. The groundwater pumped out of the mines is comparatively clean (Wilkinson 2011, 3). Once the steam pump is shut off, the underground water is able to fill up the abandoned mine over years. After all tunnels are filled up, the water finds a way to release itself. This is called natural drainage water (Wilkinson 2011, 3). Those forces include the rise and fall of tides, wind, intensity of waves and variation in temperature. They consist of rocky ledges, boulders and pebbles. Furthermore, pools with seawater can be found. Rocky shores can be divided into different zones, according to vertical height. The zones vary in diversity (see Fig. 6) and most species are adapted to a specific zone (Little 2009, 17). The top of the shore is bare rock and living organisms such as littorinid snails or lichens can be found there. This zone is called splash zone as it above high tide mark and therefore perpetually out of water (Little 2009, 18). The second zone is called littoral zone (or intertidal) and has its boundaries defined as distance between very highest and very lowest spring tide. The lower, middle and upper shore are included into this zone and there is a varying degree of exposure to seawater, depending on the tide. Organisms living there must be able to cope with fluctuating air and breaking waves. Rock pools and Fucus spiralis are found in this part of the rocky shore (Little 2009, 18). • 26. Carlo Scarpa s Approach And Theory INTRODUCTION AND BUILDING HISTORY Carlo Scarpa s approach and theory to designing with existing buildings is an innovation that is relevant to buildings even today. The Castelvecchio museum is one of his greatest projects, and thoroughly reveals his way of working. Scarpas intention was not only to restore an aging building but to do so in a way that creates dialogue between the new and the old. By careful work of demolition and preservation, he literally cuts, shifts and adds elements to the existing building in order to create an exhibition of the building s past, and its connection to modernity. In order for him to make informed decisions about what to preserve and what to demolish, he had to have a thorough understanding of the building s political history. The Castelvecchio dates back as far as the 12th century, and has undergone four eras of development in its lifetime. The commune wall is the oldest element in the building and was the second of three large fortifications in Verona (Fig 1.1). In 1354, the Castelvecchio was built by the Scaligeri family, the Lords of Verona, and was built for their own defense against the citizens for times of revolt. It was built either side of the commune wall, and consisted of a three story residence or Reggia around an inner court and an outer military zone (Fig 1.2). The Castelvecchio continued this military function until 1797, where Napoleon and his troops claimed residence during his invasion over the Venetian Republic. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It s something that s involuntarily part of someone when they participate in these gatherings with other sports fans. Having a passion specifically for a team could get a crowd riled up, so when they begin to lose, people try to generalize what could have caused the circumstance. Fear of one s team being in a losing streak, who never seem to win, sports fans try to hold on to a sense of hope and something to believe in that could explain the reasoning as to why they haven t won for a period of time. However, there is no logical evidence that superstitious or curses are the cause of a team lost in a game. People are always trying to fill in the gaps of what could cause such a loss, and when they can t find a legitimate reason they direct their attention to superstition. Also to keep pushing through the hard times, soon good things will come out of it because everything happens for a reason. Billie Jo s life was the one that you wouldn t call a dream life to have. She had a really rough life. In the beginning of the novel, her family didn t have much money at all which meant if someone was sick, injured, or even hungry it was hard to please them. They also had a lot of dust that ruined their crops and what they all had, which also meant they couldn t do anything about it because they had little and not a lot to thrive off of. Here are a few examples of how she had a very unpleasant life. Billie Jo and her mother got burned very badly from a pail of kerosene. • 41. Supernatural Elements And Supernatural Elements In... Supernatural and temporal elements are popular devices used in romantic literature. Supernatural elements are things that go beyond the natural realm such as spirits and demons, and temporal elements are a part of the physical world such as nature and flaws in humanity. Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter, a romantic novel, consists of mystic and secular facets that enhance the plot and tone of the novel as well as creating conflicts. Supernatural elements provide contrast between Puritan beliefs and witchcraft, and temporal elements provide contrast between the sins and flaws of society and the purity of nature. The devil is a supernatural being that imposes itself into the character, Roger Chillingworth. The temporal fault of hypocrisy shows in Dimmesdale s character and the judgmental nature of the townspeople. The role of the forest is both a supernatural and temporal element because it is a very spiritual place and provides an escape from the secular world. Hawthorne uses dark supernatural elements to characterize Roger Chillingworth. Hester s affair makes Chillingworth an envious and vengeful man, and his need for revenge turns him into a fiend. Chillingworth s physical appearance changes for the worst in the course of seven years, old Roger Chillingworth was a striking evidence of man s faculty of transforming himself into a devil (Hawthorne 156). Chillingworth s appearance changes from a studious and scholarly man to a stooped and deformed creature with red glowing eyes. Pearl observes Chillingworth s hideous and terrifying features and suspects that he is the Black Man. Not only is Chillingworth s appearance effected by the supernatural elements of the devil, his demonic character is exposed when he leeches onto Dimmesdale. Chillingworth seems to embrace his demonic identity when Hester condemns him for torturing Dimmesdale and making his life hell. Chillingworth admits to doing so, but refuses to stop because Dimmesdale deserves it. Hawthorne uses the evil supernatural elements of the devil to make Roger Chillingworth a symbol of the Black Man. His reason for doing so provides grave conflict in the lives of Hester, Pearl, and especially Dimmesdale. The comparison of Chillingworth to the devil ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The undergraduate and graduate students from psychology and sociology classes at the University of Connecticut are recruited to participate in a self report survey. A random sample of 240 students will be acquired, 120 males and 120 females. These students will range from different races, ethnicities, and socio economic background. The participants will first be clustered based on gender, then subcategorized by social class, race, and where these participants originally reside. The clusters will allow researchers to view the differing statistics of each characteristic and hopefully distinguish correlations. One hundred and twenty ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The outcome of the study may lead to inaccurate results because the participant pool does not properly portray the population in which the study is collecting data. As a means to account for this source of bias, the study could possibly be opened up to the public instead of privately selecting participants from the university. This way participants come from all backgrounds not only undergraduates and graduates. This study only makes generalizations from the population of 18 through 25 year old young adults who are undergraduates or graduates that have dealt with parents whom suffer from alcoholism, substance use, and mental illness. The study does not generalize the population of 18 through 25 year olds that are not in college. This population that does not attend college are hard to obtain for research and so they will not be represented in the study. The sample s responses to the survey will allow researchers to make inferences of the behavior of the population of 18 through 25 year olds who are in college. Procedures The data will be recorded from a series of surveys and questionnaires. The questionnaires will be similar to the ones used in the Williams and Corrigan study. Williams and Corrigan (1992) had participants complete the Children of Alcoholics Screening Test, the Relative Psychiatric History Questionnaire, Coopersmith Self Esteem Inventory for adults, State Trait Anxiety Inventory, and the Social Support ... • 43. My Catholic Experience Paper Well I grew up in a Catholic family with a grandmother who was very spiritual, and even had her own room with hundreds of saints, and she would pray to them for different requests. I never really understood church or many of the Bible stories. The church services were so discipline to me, and felt like a punishment because of the standing and kneeling all through out the service. I moved away with my mother and siblings and we ended up staying at this homeless shelter that was ran by a non denominational church, so part of our agreement to stay was to attend this church. I found this church to be open to anyone and everyone, and during our time their I got baptized. I enjoyed this church. From that time I never really considered myself Catholic, because I could never ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After further research I came up with the opinion that praying to saints goes against what the Bible states, which is that the only way to God is through Jesus Christ. While I do agree that Mary was an important figure in our religion, but I don t place her in the same category as Jesus. I also don t agree with how people are voted into sainthood by other humans, because humans are all sinners, so if humans vote in saints, then these saints will be receiving God s ... • 44. Genetic Macromolecules Biological evolution begins with the origin of life, but the subject is the perhaps the most interdisciplinary of any in science. Understanding how life began on Earth requires knowledge of the astronomical, geological, and atmospheric settings. However, those settings are in turn dependent on knowing the time period when life arose, which comes from the fossil and molecular records, including molecular clocks based on genetic mutations. Interrelated with the setting is the chemistry that generates the organic molecules used to assemble the first cells and carry the genetic information to successive generations of cells. But holding the chemical reactions and products together in a cell requires a membrane, and the assembly of that involves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The last 60 years have witnessed chemists developing an understanding of organocatalysis and ligand field theory, both of which give demonstrable low molecular weight catalysts. We assume that transition metal ligand complexes are likely to have occurred in the deep ocean trenches by the combination of naturally occurring oceanic metals and ligands synthesized from the emergent CO(2), H(2), NH(3), H(2)S, and H(3)PO(4). We are now in a position to investigate experimentally the metal ligand complexes, their catalytic function, and the reaction networks that could have played a role in the development of metabolism and life itself.a self propelled oil droplet system based on fatty acid chemistry. This system exhibits symmetry breaking with four characteristics: directional internal convective flow, directional external water flow, directional product release, and a self generated pH gradient. The simple ingredients oil with acid producing precursor and alkaline water with surfactant work in concert to produce sustained autonomous motion. The supramolecular structure itself contains the chemistry that fuels its movement. The system produces not only more surfactant but protons resulting in acidification of the environment immediately surrounding the oil droplet. The droplet successfully moves away from this waste product into fresh unmodified alkaline solution and even displays a primitive form of chemotaxis. Although this mechanism of movement is unlike mechanisms of motility employed by natural cellular life, directed motion by convection may be useful in an artificial cell context in the avoidance or delay of chemical ... It also provides immense opportunities for learning and skill development. However, the media also causes negative impacts on learning, physical health, and development. As the media grows and develops everyday, it constantly draws the public s attention and concerns in divided opinions. Bavelier, Eichenbaum, and Green (2014) explained the positive aspects of video games on individuals skills and abilities. Video games were found to improve one s mental capacities that decline with age and promote work skills. Not only did video game players acquire skills, they improved perceptual and cognitive processing such as working memory and abstract reasoning because games enforced players to constantly keep track of many items simultaneously in various levels of perception and cognition. Action video games especially enhanced the players vision in contrast sensitivity, crowded acuity, visual selective attention, and multiple object tracking tasks. Additionally, action gamers showed improved attention in executive functions such as sustained attention block, impulsivity block, dual tasking, and task switching. To take a step further, video games can be applied to real life for medical purposes to help correct vision for those with amblyopia, train visual attention for dyslexic children, and educate children about illnesses. • 47. Essay about Outsourcing at Office Supply Inc. Case INTRODUCTION Office Supply Incorporated (OSI) is a company in crisis, with challenges in its cost structure and poor IT performance. Outsourcing to Technology Infrastructure Solutions (TIS) is an opportunity to both reduce costs and complexity for the firm, but first must consider whether outsourcing is a good strategic fit for OSI. Outsourcing is known as the practice of turning over responsibility of some or all of organizations information systems to a foreign firm in order to stay competitive. Outsourcing is not new to the business world, as it dominated the manufacturing sector the past couple of decades. There are various advantages and disadvantages. Advantages include lower costs, better quality, and downsizing to focus on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Besides, the facilities maintenance for TIS would be less expensive because it could more effectively manage floor space, heating and air conditioning, and power consumption, and its facility was located in a less expensive city. Lastly, TIS had less disaster recovery and corporate overhead costs because it had more efficient management and economies of scale. Outsourcing would allow the OSI to focus only on its core business and would be more cost effective for it to reduce capital infrastructure costs. Also improving employee satisfaction with higher value addition jobs and making the best use of competitive resources available worldwide. Using an outsourced company (TIS) would give it the same standard hardware and software platform. And should be high speed and have a lower cost of Telecommunications. Additional, here are a series of themes that explain most of the pressures for OSI to outsource. First of all, managers concerns about cost and quality drive outsourcing. The same issues such as getting existing services for a reduced price at acceptable quality standard came up repeatedly. Second, failure to meet service standards can force management to find other ways of achieving reliability. • 49. Summary Of The Post American World In the book The Post American World, by Fareed Zakaria, he spoke of the three economical shifts in the world throughout history. Each one of these shifts has changed the world drastically, with political, culture, and of course, economical differences in every country in the world. What Zakaria had brought to my attention very early in the book was that we are currently living through the third economical shift right now. To be honest, I had never really thought about where the world was heading, and if I hadn t read this book, I would ve thought that the United States would remain the main superpower in the world and the rest of the world would sort of stay at their current status. Poor countries would remain poor, and every developed country ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the United States is for the first time in a long time subject to a change in the world rather than making that change, the United States will have to make some major changes to either keep up or get ahead of the other rising countries. As Zakaria describes these possible changes it would literally change life in the U.S that we have now, but change it for the better. This is shown by Zakaria s confidence in the U.S to always do what has to be done, no matter what the circumstances. From this book Zakaria has taught me and all of of his other readers that big changes are coming. That history as we know it is slowly being rewritten as we know it. That what was seen as impossible even 10 years ago is a reality and we are living through it, how exciting!
