A Brief Look at France
II. Essay One The state which we today call France has undergone significant change since its origins
as the territory of Gaul. Between the years 480 and 1780, this territory was reshaped in terms of both
its physical boundaries and its inhabitants and rulers, creating a rich history of the nation of modern
France. First, in order to analyze the evolution of the state of France, it is necessary to define the
concept of the state. A state is a territory, defined by physical or imagined boundaries, containing a
population of people that is governed by a select few of those people. Within the state, the government
has authority and the power to impose their power on the rest of the population, enacting laws such as
taxation, fighting wars, and implementing a criminal justice system. It is now appropriate to consider
the territorial expansion and, at times, contraction of France from 480 and 1780. Before France was
united in any kind of Frankish state, the territory we now call France was mostly comprised of an area
called Gaul. This area, existing in parts of Spain and Rome, parts of present day Belgium, Germany,
Austria and other European nations, and south of England and the English channel, was inhabited by
the Gauls up until the end of Roman rule in the 1st 3rd centuries CE. The region was populated by
tribes and loosely connected governing bodies up until the 5th century CE, when it first began to take
shape under Clovis. Clovis I had established himself as the first

Influence Of Religion In Canterbury Tales
The author of The Canterbury Tales had much to say when it came to religion and the religious people
of his society. Chaucer gave descriptions on a number of characters from different backgrounds. He
had a certain bias towards people who are truly good while the truly bad people were made fun of by
him He paid special attention to a character when the topic of religion was involved. With the
Pardoner s Tale, the Pardoner acted like a hypocrite and the author made sure to point out his
hypocrisy, be it implied or expressed in the story. Chaucer was one of the very few who had the
courage to criticize church officials in his lifetime, and it shows that he had a swell time doing it as
well. That is why Chaucer, the author of The Canterbury Tales, viewed religion and church officials as
a joke because he made fun of most of the religious characters in his prologue, was more meticulous
towards religious characters on the topic of religion, and pointed out the hypocrisy of the Pardoner s
morals in his character description and in the Pardoner s Tale. Chaucer made fun of most of the
religious characters in his prologue. One of the very first church officials in the prologue is the Nun.
The Nun is supposed to constantly be pure and holy, but Chaucer introduces her physical appearance
by jokingly saying Her forehead, certainly, was fair of spread, Almost a span across the brows, I own
(109: 158 159). Chaucer is certainly known for joking around in the Canterbury

Suburban South Analysis
1. What are the major claims/conclusions? Where can you find them stated? To begin, the authors
claim that the the suburbs had not played a central or often even an explicit role in the historical
analysis of southern politics and society since World War II (p.692) Then, they claim that The suburbs
of the postwar South, however, were home to many of the most dynamic and cutting edge forces
anywhere in the region. (p.693) Both authors also claim that the insights of urban and suburban
history provide a national frame work for interpreting the long civil rights movement (p.696), and that
The rapid growth of the suburban South has opened up many new possibilities for research (p.701

Disease Paper
Today, there are many diseases people have to deal with. Some of them are treatable and some of them
are permanent. One of the visible autoimmune diseases is vitiligo. Vitiligo occurs when melanocytes
die or stop producing the pigment that gives a skin, hair, and eye color. When people have vitiligo the
skin becomes whiter, and it usually occurs on skin on both sides of the body. The exact trigger is not
known, but it relates to the immune system to attack, destroy the melanin forming cells because of the
family history, sunburn, stress, or exposure to chemicals. It can happen at any age, but usually occurs
before the age 20.
In the article For Vitiligo Patient, Arthritis Drug Restores Skin Color from June 24, 2015 says that a ...

The side effect is dry skin, rash, or itching. In addition, there are ointments that contain tacrolimus or
pimecrolimus, which are used on small areas. There are also a treatment that is used as a combination
medication and light therapy. The patient will need to take in or apply medication called psoralen.
After that, the patient exposed to ultraviolet A or UVA light. The skin turns pink and more normal skin
color started to appear. It takes six to 12 months. The risk is that the skin might have bad sunburn,
blistering, itching, over darkening, or risk of skin cancer. Another option is surgery, which is done by
removing a small section of the skin and moving it to affected areas. This procedure called skin
grafting. Lastly, the tattooing is used, when a doctor uses a surgical instrument to implant pigment in
the skin. The negative part is that it is quite difficult to match the skin color, and tattoos tend to fade
with time. Sometimes this technique causes more vitiligo patches.
In conclusion, whether to treat vitiligo or leave it untreated, it is each every person s decision. In today
s world with many resources available there is no exact cure for this autoimmune disease, which is
really sad. I think that it is not a very popular topic since people are not going to die and it is not a
disease, which will affect others if to become in contact. The main things that people should do are use
sunscreen on the white spots. This white spot never tan, they

Research Paper on Facebook Diminishing Privacy
Privacy is often defined as freedom from the observation, intrusion, or attention of others. If that was
taken away from daily life the world would become a collection of omniscient beings that walk
around with potentially harmful information about those surrounding them. Stalking would be
unnecessary because the internet would do all for the work for us. Social networking sites are creating
many such concerns. One of the most widely known social networking sites is Facebook. When
reviewing Facebook s privacy policy, you may want to keep in mind that an examination of Facebook
s privacy policy shows that the informedchoicemodel is completely unrealistic

All you have to do to understand some of the implications of such a situation is assume that your
friend has a parent or family member as their friend. That family member can now see where your
friend is, who they re with, and what they re doing. This is usually a less than desirable occurrence.
Another popular feature is the ability to upload photos. Users share four Billion pieces of content per
day, including uploads of 250million photos (Wilson). When you add a picture to your Facebook you
re given the ability to tag your friends in it. This presents the same privacy issues as tagging a friend in
your status. Some may even consider being tagged in a picture to be worse than being tagged in a
status. As they say, a picture speaks a thousand words, and most of us don t think about what
implications those words may have on our friends before tagging them in seemingly harmless photos.
Besides your friends and possible risquΓ© activities being displayed in your pictures, your location may
be obvious. Deriving your location based on your surroundings may be harder than looking at a
location check in, but it is far from impossible, especially with motivation. If someone is determined
to invade your privacy they ll be able to do just that. Often looked past is the email constraint that

The Southwest Blackout Of 2003
The Northeast blackout of 2003 was one of the most critical blackouts in the history which affected
more than 50 million people in both the United States and Canada. The main cause of this disaster was
a software bug in the energy management system used by FirstEnergy Corporation, located in Akron,
Ohio. This is a perfect example of poor quality coding may led to a big disaster. For a perfectly
planned power grid, the power generation of each region is matched with the power consumption
within this region, so that the power lines will always carry a reasonable workload. If one power line
fails to work, other parallel lines would have to carry extra power, which is bad for safety and may
lead to fire. The power system operators are the ones ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And the generating plant don t know it either. Then, because the workload was assigned to other lines,
several other lines in the region also declined to work for self protection, and the whole Ohio and
Michigan got blackout short after. The company and other government departments noticed the
problem, but hardly have anything to do at the time. The cascading effect is already unstoppable. Each
generating plant can only separate their generators from the power grid to prevent the large current
destroy their generators. So almost all the generating plants in northeastern United States and Ontario
went offline, and the whole region got blackout. This happened in only 2 hours. Water pumps cannot
work without power supply, so some areas also have water supply problem. And other services like
public transportation (e.g. TTC streetcars), communication, and media (radio and TV stations) also
affected. Some areas recovered from the blackout the same night, but most areas did not get power
back until August 16th, two days after the accident. Both United States government and Canada
government were criticized, and they adopted some policy to prevent future blackouts after it.
Following the blackout, a thorough investigation of the energy control system was taken. GE s
developers looked through millions of lines of code and log to find the bug, and it them weeks to
finally locate the bug. The bug is known as a race condition in computer science,

Canada Health Act Essay
The Undermining of the Canada Health Act
Abstract
In the past, Canada s government funded, universally accessible, health care system has been praised
and admired both at home and abroad as one of the finest in the world. A great source of pride and
comfort for many Canadians is that it is based on five fundamental principles. Principles that are a
reflection of the values held by Canadian citizens since the formation of Medicare in 1966. These
principles were reinforced in the Canada Health Act, (CHA), of 1984 and state that the Canadian
system is universal, accessible, portable, comprehensive and non profit.
With increasing concerns of debts and deficits, Canada s publicly funded health care system has
recently become the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Accessibility and quality are being threatened due to cutbacks coupled with a lack of funding. There is
a consensus now between medical professionals, the public, and the government that the health care
system is deteriorating. It is failing to provide the quality of care promised in the CHA and prided by
so many Canadians.
Yet the strings on the public purse continue to tighten. Transfer payments from the federal government
continue to decrease as provincial debt loads increase. And, although the minister of health and the
premier assured them that the costs of health care were doubling or even tripling, Albertans have
witnessed a steady decline in government spending on health care. The proportion of gross domestic
product, (GDP), which Alberta allocates to health care is ranked last among the ten provinces, (Taft,
1997). Albertans now find themselves with a struggling health care system and a waiting list.
The proposed solution from current Alberta government would see the health care system incorporate
the private sector. The government Most of all the government is looking to decrease cost, increase
accessibility and efficiency. ***** .
Universality and Accessibility vs. Choice
Universality and accessibility go hand in hand. They are the principles that assure that each Canadian
regardless of financial situation, will have equal opportunity to access the same level of care. The lack

warning was, It s the narrow gate, not the broad road, that leads to life. the consequences of not

second warning that Jesus gave to us is Beware of false prophets, you ll know them by their fruit. The
consequences are Those who bear bad fruit will be thrown into the fire. The third warning Jesus gives
us is Not all the followers of Jesus really are. The consequences are Those who don t obey God will be

This was my answer Having support, knowing you will go to heaven, God will be there for us. This is
another question you can ask yourself, What makes being a Christian difficult? And this was my
answer Hard to be nice to people 24/7, knowing we might be persecuted, there is sin in the world. So
these are some things you can think about.
It also says in this chapter Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road
that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that
leads to life, and only a few find it. And this is saying that if you follow God you will do anything to
be with him even if it s the hard way.
I think of a person named Daniel when I think about this, Daniel was a person who prayed to God no
matter what, every day, every night. Daniel did so much to be with God, He avoided false prophets,
He built his foundation in God, He brought good fruit to the world. Daniel was thrown into the lions
den but still he trusted God and

Techniques Used For Extracting Useful Information From Images
The main objective over here focusses on the enhanced image searching which can be carried out by
performing few of the existing techniques used for extracting useful information from images. These
techniques include image classification, Feature Extraction, Face detection and recognition and image
retrieval etc.
4.1 Image Classification
After the image has been processed using the 3 frameworks proposed the image needs to be classified
which is done using the image classification technique of image mining. Classification can be carried
out by applying the method of supervised classification and unsupervised classification but here we
will mainly focus upon supervised classification.

4.5 Face detection and Recognition
The face plays an important role in today s world in the identification of the person. Face recognition
is the process concerned with the identification of one or more person in images or videos by
analyzing the patterns and comparing them with one another. Algorithms that are used for face
recognition basically extract facial features and compares them to a face database to find the best and
suitable match. Application of face detection and recognition includes biometrics, security and
surveillance systems.
V. RESULT AND ANLYSIS
We have taken six images which includes two Face based image, two Content based image, and one
feature based image and the last image which is a combined image which includes all three types i.e.
Face, content and feature. The search results obtained when the above mentioned six images were
searched for on a search engine is shown in Table I. The following table shows the time taken in the

Short Story Of Greenvale Girls Boarding School
Come on Ava! yelled an excited Sophia from downstairs. I dragged my suitcase out of my room. It
was half way through the year and our mother had decided to ship us off to a boarding school for girls.
Ava!!!! Sophia was an incredibly adventurous person. I on the other hand would like a nice relaxing
day reading a book and leaving the adventures to the characters in my stories. As I reached the bottom
of the staircase the doorbell rang and broke my train of thought. I ve got it!! Sophia said as she raced
to the door. I followed after her.
She opened the door and stood staring. Looking down at us was a tall slim figure of a woman. She had
such a pinched up face and I wondered how uncomfortable it must be. Sophia, Ava? She said sharply.
We both nodded our heads in unison. I m Mrs Cox the Principal of Greenvale Girls Boarding school. I
ve come to pick you up I looked at Sophia. She shrugged and went to tell mother who was probably in
the kitchen. I was left with this woman staring at me.
We stood awkwardly in silence, well she didn t seem to find it awkward. Finally Sophia and mother
came around the corner and rescued me from Mrs Cox poison glare. As I hopped into Mrs Cox car I
waved bye to mother and turned to Sophia. Sophia I said. She turned to look at me. What do you think
it will be like? I said. Be quiet! Mrs Cox yelled from the front passenger s seat. Sophia shrugged and
put her feet up of the seat in front. Typical of Sophia I thought. Mrs Cox turned

time at sea making difficult to study their behavioural tendencies. Rarely interact with one another

Courtship Mating: Mating is believed to occur during a limited receptive period prior to the females
first nesting emergence. During mating season, males may court a female by nuzzling her head or by
gently biting the back of her neck and rear flippers. If the female does not flea, the male attaches
himself to the back of the females shell by gripping her top shell with the claws in his front flippers.

Modern Horror Film Analysis
Why are modern audiences still going to watch horror movies? How are they still scared of vampires,
zombies, and conveniently isolated cabins? Perhaps the horror comes from the new stories told with
that same tool set. As New York Times film reviewer A. O. Scott says in his thoughts on Drew
Goddard s The Cabin in The Woods, Novelty and genre traditionalism often fight to a draw. Scott s
claim is correct, finding a delicate balance between novel plot devices and reliable scares is one of the
main troubles of the modern horror genre. Many modern horror films, The Cabin in the Woods
included, use their novelty to create a compelling story while scaring the audience with the classic
tropes. Modern horror films don t have to scare in a whole new way, and they often don t. But, a
predictable movie is a boring one, and as such novelty is used to keep the audience on their toes
during modern horror films. Though novel horror films such as The Cabin in the Woods and Cargo
don t need novelty to create fear, the novelty is essential in balancing with the demands of the genre to
create interesting stories.
The Cabin in the Woods is a 2011 horror film directed by Drew Goddard that follows the slasher film
roadmap to a tee, yet is sure to keep audiences enthralled throughout. Five teenagers head out to an
isolated forest cabin to be indiscriminately killed by a gang of terrifying monsters. The film soon
shows it s full hand, however, when it is revealed that the monsters are under the

Family Honor And Obedient Sacrifice In The Scarlet Letter...
Family Honor Obedient Sacrifice
Varying from person to person, the ideology of family culture tends to differ. Many people would
define their own family culture differently, but there are times when it may overlap with another
person. Throughout our world, there are many cultures. These can be divided into subcategories such
as people or ethnic groups within a community to the social aspect of society. When it comes to
specific cultures, it may result in people behaving or thinking a certain way. This ties into conformity.
The question of whether or not conforming to society may bring honor or prevent shame to an
individual or group is something that could be debateable. This paper will be exploring the idea of
conformity between Scarlet Letter and Red Azalea. Both stories contain a womanly figure who takes
charge in dealing with difficulties that may arise.
The general idea of culture that is ingrained into the brains of many people, may consist of associating
culture with countries or ethnic groups. One of the main key points to this term is that it incorporates
much more than just those two aspects. When viewing it from a sociological perspective, culture can
be deconstructed into 3 components. Through background knowledge after taking a sociology class,
values, norms, and artifacts when combined, is what defines the term culture. These aspects that create
culture, can differentiate a family from one another. When taking the broad idea of culture and then
applying it

The Pros And Cons Of Cashless
Imagine living the world where all jobs in America pay with transaction and card. The world where
cash will never have its value again and even if it there, it will not have its do the some work it hard in
the past. Cashless society is basically a society in which cash is not valued including checks. The only
payment that can be expectable is credit card, debit, and transitions. Therefore, the United States of
America should not go cashless in order to keep the trust of its population and maintain the safety of
the country especially for the people living in that particular area.
Banks can easily manipulate the people. Individuals need to put in mind that when their money are in
banks, the money is automatically controlled by the banks and obviously that money is not theirs at
that point. Banks have the right to do whatever they want to do with the money without asking one s
opinion and there are some of the time when the bank may be unwilling or unable to return [back the]
money when someone is in need (Burnham). Other may said that most banks are regulated by the
government illegally, so it is impossible for banks to manipulate people. Well is true, however, in the
past banks hurt people through manipulation. For example, housing crisis, cars, and other materials.
This is why eliminating the use of cash is not a great idea it is going to help the government and hurt
the people. As a result of that, people should think twice and come back to their sinces when making a

The Emergence Of Gestalt Therapy In The 1940 s
All great therapies start out with one person or group of people who become discontent with the status
quo, and avidly work to prove that what is widely accepted as the only way to accomplish things, may
not at all be what is necessary in all circumstances. In the early 1930 s and 1940 s psychoanalysis was
the rage, anyone in the field of psychology who did not ascribe to this style of psychology was a
deviant, and in all likelihood would be shun from the psychological community. Additionally, this was
a time period globally where many Jews in Europe were seeking to escape from the hands of Hitler,

Why Canada Should Fund The Military
The society one lives in today is controlled by the flow of money. The use of wealth dictates the entire
world, and as a result, power, success, and improvement come with the logical and thoughtful control
of money. So why does Canada strive for success if the government can t cut funds towards useless
motions? The Canadian government should fund the military less. As of 2016, the Canadian
government spent $19 billion, roughly 1.35% of Canada s total GDP funding the military. Recent
political debate has run into this topic: is spending $19 billion on the Canadian military logical? The
disposition of this argument held in this essay believes it is not, and subsequently believes significant
cuts in the military s budget need to be made. The reason ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Higher priority motions than the military need funding. A first example of a motion that has a higher
priority need for funding than the military is the economic stability of the Canadian government. As
shown in the previous paragraph, Canadian economy is struggling and extremely vulnerable. To
ensure a stable life for Canadian citizens, the government should take the responsibility to take care of
its citizens, hence, funding the Canadian military less. A second motion that would use military funds
more efficiently is the funding of environmental preservation. Due to the large quantities of CO2
being released into the atmosphere at an exponential, and thus, alarming rate, the average global
temperature is rising. Scientists say that if the current release of carbon keeps up, dramatic effects such
as more droughts and heat waves, a massive rise in sea levels and more intense hurricanes are
impossible to avoid. The Canadian government cannot ignore the fact that the country s current path is
headed for disaster, and money needs to be directed towards this motion before it s too late. A final
example of a motion that is far more urgent than the funding of the Canadian military is funding the
poor. Regardless of efforts Canada has tried to minimize poverty rates, huge amounts of people are
still stuck with low income. 4.9 million people are categorized as poor in Canada, 3 million of which
are children. It is irresponsible of the Canadian government to use money ineffectively when so many
people are barely hanging onto their prosperity. In summary, motions such as ensuring economic
stability, ensuring environmental preservation and funding the poor, which are far more urgent than
that the military, need

In the 1850 s, America was undergoing a massive internal changes via the industrial revolution. With
this new era, American culture was drastically changed as women started to take a more prominent
role in American society. In his novel The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne attempts to stimulate
this change by illustrating the positive influence of a strong female character in a Puritanical society
through his heroine, Hester Prynne, by putting her in a scandalous situation capable of drawing out the
worst in people.
Hester displays acts of courage that portray her as a heroic character. Hester clearly suffers from her
punishment of having to wear the scarlet letter A in public as she attempts to maintain ... Show more

An early example of this is how she handles her service to others. Even while being harassed by the
general public, Hester Prynne continues to make these sacrifices which are only rewarded with hatred
and insults. Hester foregoes her own pleasures, except for the lavish decoration of her infant, and
bestows the rest of her wealth on wretches less miserable than herself (Hawthorne 75). She even
continues to aid the poor despite the fact that they not unfrequently insulted the hand that fed them
(Hawthorne 75). Despite the fact that it was in Hester s best interests not to aid those around her, she
continued to do so. This evidences her sheer strength of character as the heroine of the novel. Hester s
loyalty is also magnified by her selfless nature, as her willingness to sacrifice lends itself well to
remaining loyal to others. Hester also selflessly bears the burden of the entire community s sin. Hester
perceives the hidden sin in other hearts around her and because her sin has been uncovered, she alone
bears the penalty for deviancy (Taylor). A prime example of this is once again her refusal to reveal
Dimmesdale as her child s father. In resisting their efforts to uncover him, Hester states to the clergy: I
might endure his agony, as well as mine! (Hawthorne 63). Here, her loyalty is greatly supplemented
by her willingness to suffer in place

The Effects Of Divorce On Our Society
The United States is a country that takes pride in the fact that no matter what religion, race or sex you
are you can join together in the unity of marriage. Many people dream of growing up and marrying the
love of their life and having a family, but they do not take into consideration there are 2.3 million
marriages a year, with over 1.2 million divorces ( The Impact of Divorce on Our Society ). Divorce is
not limited to breaking apart the husband and wife; it destroys families, siblings and the future of the
American children. Divorces cause money, crime and education issues and an overall effect on the
children caught in the middle, which follows them into their adult life.
A $1,000 of taxpayer s money is spent dealing with the consequences of broken families ( The Impact
of Divorce on Our Society ). The amount of money spent in divorce procedures and in the long run is
astronomical. From divorce lawyers to child support, there is no denying this bonus part of life is
expensive. It impacts families as well as tax payers and the government. The median household net
worth is $132,000 for marrieds, $35,000 for singles, and $33,670 for divorced individuals ( The
Impact of Divorce on Our Society ). If people get married, they have a far better chance to earn a
comfortable living, but they have to stay together. If not, the taxpayers and government have to pay
consequences for divorces. If people took the time to make sure their partner was for life, then the

My Strengths In Football
One of my strengths in football is passing. Passing is a key part in the game of football. The aim is to
maintain possession to try and create opportunities to score to win the game. When I m going to pass
the ball I make sure that I use the correct technique when deciding to play a certain pass. During a
game I would use the inside of my strong foot (left), keeping the ball low when performing a short
pass. However, when I m going to play a longer pass or switching the ball I would use the laces on my
boot technique by drilling the ball to another teammate judging the weight and height of the pass
depending on the distance away from him. Also I would make sure that I stay very calm and
composed so that I don t make any errors or hesitate.
Anther, strong physical aspect of my game would be my cardiovascular endurance, which enables me
to play to the full 90 minutes and beyond. It allows me to continue working at my best, relentlessly

This Is because, improving my headers allows me to get enough power in my header within a cross
situation. This means that If my team see that I m good at heading then they would be crossing the ball
in most of the time. If my heading is better that would mean that I I can use this skill to an advantage
for scoring more goals. However, because my heading is a weakness I cannot head the ball first time
when the ball is crossed and cannot get enough power.
When training I will be working on heading. My training program involves football training evolved
around heading the ball. Every week the activities I do I would make sure that I increase the intensity
which would allow my progression to be quicker and see improvements. I will do the same activities
but the will get harder and I will do them for longer each time. I will keep doing these activities so my
effort put in does not start to reverse. I also do the same amount of activities, in the training program,

Sugar: the Sweet Poison
Contemporary Issues in Adolescent Health Wellbeing
WOOLSTON, Kristina
8/26/2014
Sugar is delicious it is a fast source of energy and sometimes cheaper than buying healthy foods. But
Australian teenagers need to wake up to the fact that they are consuming too much of it, the
consequences it is having on their lives.
Introduction
Sugar tastes good, can be used for baking and is a quick source of energy; however what is the reality
of eating sugar? In what way does it affect our bodies and minds to give a short boost of energy?
According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, in Australia, 24.9% of adolescents
between the ages of five and seventeen are overweight or obese
(AustralianInstituteofHealthandWelfare, 2013). As the number of overweight teenagers in Australia
continued to rise, researchers looked for a reason for these overwhelming numbers and discovered that
Australian teenagers were consuming over 53kg of sugar each year, which is around 29 teaspoons of
both natural and added sugar each day (Cowan, 2014).
How is sugar digested?
Sugar is a Carbohydrate and provides a source of energy in the body. It is the only source of energy
for red blood cells and the brain. It is digested quickly and broken down to form glucose and fructose,
which is used for energy (My Food Diary, 2014). Fructose,

Living the Christian Life, According to Peter Essay
First Peter has been called by some the epistle of hope. The book of First Peter is a very encouraging
and also doctrinal text for Christians today. It tells us to have courage in our daily lives as Christians
and gives us reasons why we should have perseverance. First Peter also tells us how we should treat
each other in our relationships as brothers and sisters in Christ. As we strive to live with God by our
side, this book also tells us that suffering will occur in our lives and how we should deal with those
struggles. This book of only 105 verses is filled with words that give a remarkable sense of hope.
The authorship of First Peter seems very obvious, but according to commentary from Edward Gordon

Most of the writing echoes Peter s own personal experiences during the apostolic times and with that
the conclusion that he must have been the primary author of First Peter.
According to Gordon Fee, the first epistle of Peter was written around 64 65 A.D. from the city of
Rome. Peter mentions Babylon in his writing, but this is actually more of a nickname of some sort for
Rome. He could have been referring to the ancient city of Babylon, but this is most likely not the case.
Babylon and Rome are very similar in that they were both worldly cities undergoing persecution of
Christians, but Peter is probably referring to Rome as the Babylon of the day.
The recipients of First Peter were mostly Gentile believers in five provinces of Asia Minor: Pontus,
Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia (Fee 402). Paul or some of his workers had founded churches
in some of these areas, and the churches addressed were made up of mostly Gentiles, but also some
Jewish members too. There are a few comments made by Peter implying a Gentile audience in regards
to their previous impure lives when they lived in ignorance, but there are also some Jewish terms used
that could imply that these Gentiles could have been Jewish proselytes (Kelcy 11).
Peter speaks to his audience with encouragement about suffering

T Is Common For People To Doubt The Trinity Of God Because
t is common for people to doubt the Trinity of God because the word Trinity itself does not occur in
the Bible. It is reasonable to think a concept that is so important to the Christian faith would have a
formal definition included as a Bible verse so that it can be learned and memorized. In spite of the fact
that there is not a verse that defines the word Trinity , the Bible does clearly show that God exists as
three equal persons as God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. The Old Testament
constantly insists that there is only one God who must be worshipped and loved as the only God. The
New Testament agrees. I think the concept of God being the Father is easy for Christians and peoples

The Old Testament descriptions of God are applied to Jesus by both Matthew (Matt 3:3, Isa. 40:3) and
John (John 12:41, Isa. 6:1). Jesus disciples were convinced He was God because he possessed the
attributes of God: Life (John 1:4), Self existence (John 5:26), Immutability (Heb. 13:8), Truth (John
14:6), Love (I John 3:1), Holiness Luke 1:35), Eternity (John 1:1), Omnipresence (Matt. 28:20),
Omniscience (Matt. 9:4), Omnipotence (Matt. 28:18). Dr. Wallace s textbook also provides examples
in Scripture where a) the works of God are ascribed to Jesus (John 1:3, Col. 1:17), b) honor and
worship due only to God is given to Jesus (John 5:23, Rom. 10:9, Heb. 1:6, Phil. 2:10 11, Rev. 5:12
14, and c) Jesus name is associated with that of God on an equal basis (Matt. 28:19, I Cor. 1:3, II Cor.
13:14, John 5:23, John 14:1, Col. 3:1, John 5:18). Jesus promised to send a helper to carry on His
work. The promised Helper was the Holy Spirit. From the start He was recognized as the third divine
Person, as one who receives honor due only to God (I Cor. 3:16) and is associated as an equal to God
(Matt. 28:19, II Cor. 13:14). Peter said in Acts 5:3 4 that to lie to the Holy Spirit is to lie to God. The
Holy Spirit also has God s attributes ascribed to Him, such as Life (Rom. 8:2), Truth (John 16:13),
Love (Rom. 15:30), Holiness (Eph. 4:30), Eternity (Heb. 9:14),

Banana farms along the Johnstone river, sending the reef bananas?
Location and current status
The Johnstone River catchment in far North Queensland is one of many rivers that is destroying the
great barrier reef, it and many other rivers in North Queensland are the home to banana and sugarcane
farms. When the area gets large amounts of rainfall, sediments run off the farms and into the Jonstone
or other rivers it has been placed next to for irrigation. The sediment contains nutrients, nitrogen and
chemicals meant to rid the farms of pests and increase productivity. These all enter the river and
eventually the sea. To Quote Martin Cunningham The Johnstone river has died the sediment is causing
the animals that usually live in the river to die or leave, the birdlife is dieing down and it is getting
progressively harder to fish in the river. Other people say that the Johnstone river is not dieing, there is

Arabella Fight Club Essay
he Fountain of Youth s story has been told many a time throughout the years. This however, is the very
best of them all, full of romance and royalty, peasants and friendships. It is said to have taken place
during the year of King Gilbert s reign. Prince Alexander was the King s only son, and from a very
young age, he was very good at all he did, with very little help from tutors or private instructors.
Though he had only one friend, his nursemaid, Clemence s, only daughter, and her name was

farther down on the social pyramid, but no one cared how close they were, maybe because very few
people knew.
Arabella was a parlor maid for many years. The job of a parlor maid was a simple one, she was
expected to spend her time and attention to the drawing room and dining room, helping the waitress in
the pantry, or keeping the library and drawing room in order, and of course she had to be easy on the

diagnosed with Varicella. In general, Varicella Pneumonia tends to appear once in 400 cases of

On examination, the patient exemplified diminished breathing sounds along with mild scattered
cracks.Diagnosis of Varicella pneumonia was made on the basis of the rash, pulmonary symptoms,
and the contact with a patient with chickenpox. Additionally, chest x ray (16.3%) showed interstitial
and/or nodular infiltrates which indicates the presence of pneumonia. Varicella Pneumonia is known
to occur in approximately 1/400 cases with adults with chickenpox. Likewise, the risk factors of
Varicella Pneumonia is smoking which provides substantial evidence in order to form the diagnosis.
The patient had then undergone seven days of intravenous acyclovir associated with Varicella. The
treatment was successful which might hint that if the patient were to be given early RX, then it may
modify the natural course of this complication.
Conclusions: In retrospect, Varicella Pneumonia still remains to be a dangerous complication that still
kills thousands, however, if accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment were to be made, then
patients would have a greater chance to overcome the illness. Yet, survival still depends on the
recognized risk factors.

Another information system utilized by Domino s is the Enterprise System, which serves to integrate
several different parts of the company s processes into a single software system (Laudon amp;
Laudon, 2012). Therefore, when a customer places the order the billing information is transacted,
along with personal information that serves as market research for the company. The input of an email
address into the system allows for follow up emails contributing to the marketing side of the business.
Also, when the customer builds the pizza they desire, it breaks down the production process for the
employees, all in a single detailed transaction. This is undoubtedly an efficient process for Domino s,
allowing different parts of the company to enter a ubiquitous state. These systems allow for an
improved business process for Domino s, allowing for a ubiquitous business process instead of each
section of the company having to work separately to complete the same business processes.
Comparatively to a company like Amazon, the system almost works in the same fashion for both

Growing Brassica Rapa
The control group in this experiment is the group that is grown normally to test the effects of the rest
of the experiment s independent variables. Growing Brassica rapa plants in the control group will
allow the other science experiments to be compared to the normal growth of a common Brassica rapa
plant. The normal growth of these plants will be important in measuring the other plants to see how
their sizes compare and to show how an untreated plant would grow. Because of the nature of the
control group, there is no null hypothesis since all the plants should grow at the same rate. If the
correct amount of sunlight and water are given to the Brassica rapa plant, then they should grow as a
normal Brassica rapa plant would. The purpose of this

INTRODUCTION
Rate of reactions play a vital role in real life situations. Everyday situations, such as cooking, require
reaction rates to be increased. To bake some cookies, you place them inside an oven. But why is that?
Well, placing the cookies in the oven speeds up the rate of the reaction by heating it up. When the
cookies have more heat energy, they cook faster. Additives may be added to foods to speed up the
reaction. These are called catalysts. Likewise, we place milk in our fridges to slow down the reaction
rate by removing heat and preventing the milk from going bad. This is because the milk would turn
sour if we left it out near a window. (14)
Enzymes are used to speed up biological reactions. When digesting food, enzymes are used as
biological catalysts to speed up metabolisms. Excess heat from this is used to regulate the temperature
of endothermic animals bodies. When a person is ill, their body temperature increases as heat fights
bacteria by slowing down the rate of bacteria production. Respiration is another example of when
reactions are sped up in biological systems. Rates of reactions

Epicurus, Letter to Menoeceus, p. 49 50.
What argument does he provide for why we should not fear death? What is the ethical purpose of this
argument for how we should live our lives? Do you agree with Epicurus s views? Why or why not?
Epicurus was a hedonist, a materialist and a consequentialist who strongly believed that in order to
attain the good life one must live a pleasant existence free of worry and pain. Through reflection of the
concepts in Epicurus s Letter to Menoeceus this paper will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In order to live the good life, one must eliminate all pain and live a life with maximum pleasure.
Unlike other hedonist philosophers, Epicurus evaluated pleasures by their duration rather than their
intensity, making psychological pleasures much more desirable to physical pleasures. Epicurus, as a
consequentialist thought that in order to achieve the good life, one had to logically assess future
consequences of human actions through rational reflection and evaluation. If one were to rationally
reflect on death they would soon realise that there was nothing but oblivion after death (de Botton
2000, p. 59).
The Leading Doctrines of Epicurean philosophy state that it is impossible to live the pleasant life
without also living sensibly, nobly and justly, and conversely it is impossible to live sensibly, nobly
and justly without living pleasantly (Epicurus, 1998b, p.53). Therefore, the good Epicurean believes in
order to live virtuously, one must adhere to a pleasurable life. For Epicureans it is impossible to live
virtuously and unpleasantly or vice versa. In addition, Epicurus describes pleasure as our primary
native good (Epicurus 1998a, p. 51), implying that all human actions are driven by pleasures and by
the avoidance of pains. Another imperative concept to Epicurean philosophy is Epicurus idea of the
three fundamental aspects in attaining pleasure, those of friendship, freedom and an analysed life

The Indian Act Of 1876 And The Amendment Of 1985
Since the beginning of colonization, indigenous people of Canada have been repressed in many ways
by the Westerners. Aboriginal women have been having a really hard time, being not only aboriginal,
but also women in a male dominated society where women are seen as secondary and don t have all
the rights and privileges that men have. We will focus here on the legal discrimination against
indigenous women in Canada that came with the Indian Act of 1876 and the amendment of 1985, how
those two events influenced women. We will first study why indigenous women have been more
discriminated than indigenous men, then how the Indian Act reinforced this inequity. Then we will see
how the 1985 amendment came to be, a century later and what are the consequences of legal
discrimination for indigenous women in Canada. We will conclude that, in a context of discrimination
against natives with colonization, the Indian Act made legal injustices in detriment of indigenous
women, and that after years of favouritism against them they finally gained a bit of justice through the
amendment of 1985.
First of all, it s important to understand the context in which the Indian Act is taking place in terms of
equity for aboriginal women. With the colonization from the British and the French in Canada came
rapes, violence against indigenous population, especially women that were seen as weaker and easier
prey . After the colonizing period, violence against aboriginal women came not only from the

Lakeland Terrier Research Paper
The Lakeland Terrier dog breed has an appearance that is very similar to that of the Welsh and the
Airedale Terriers. These dogs are considered to be a first class family pet that is considered to be
excellent with children. Because this dog is of a sound temperament and convenient size, he makes for
a great guard dog with an excellent warning bark.
The Lakeland Terrier has been used in the past for both fox hunting and badger hunting. In today s
world this dog is kept mainly as a loving family pet as opposed to hunting. In addition to all of the fine
qualities listed above, the Lakeland Terrier has in recent years been a very successful contender in the
show ring.
Size: The average weight of this dog is just over seven Kg (or 17 lbs).

Seung-Hui Cho And The Aftermath Of The Virginia Tech Massacre
A case study is a method of analysis and a specific research design for examining a problem
(University of Southern California, 2010). It can be used to analyze a person, place, event, or other
subjects in order to help discover mitigating issues, misconceptions, failures, trends, or
recommendations (USC, 2010). Case studies will be used to gain a better understanding of situations
and topics to help others make better policies, procedures, and decisions (USC, 2010). Seung Hui Cho

Difference Between Private School And Private Schools
There has always been a large debate between private and public schools. Even though this argument
has been going on for a long time, no one can seem to figure out which is the better choice. Some of
the main things people tend to focus on when comparing and contrasting the two types of schools are
tuition, academic environment, curriculum, athletics, and how the students are disciplined. Each of
these is equality important in their own ways to people when choosing what school they think is best
for them. The first topic, which is very important is tuition. Tuition is a crucial part of making a
decision for school because that s where the money comes in. Academics are also one of the main
factors in choosing a school for a good education is the whole reason why people usually attend a
certain school. Next are athletics may not be the deciding factor, but for some people they base the
school they want to go to off of how well the school s athletics are doing. Lastly discipline is also
sometimes considered because the possible attendee might want to know how the students are
punished. Out of all of these different topics to consider when choosing a private school education
comes out on top for all of these because of the smaller school environment and a more in depth
attention to detail when dealing with students. Tuition is a big factor when considering a school
someone wants to go to. The main difference between public schools and private schools when it

Bourgeoisie And Proletariat In The Communist Manifesto By...
Class Co dependence of Bourgeoisie and Proletariat in Marx
According to Karl Marx, history is defined by class struggle. This epoch is one of an increasingly
polarized duality of Bourgeoisie and Proletariat; simply defined as an antagonism between the owners
of capital and means of production, and the wage labors with no capital to speak of; A byproduct of
Capitalism. Introduced in The Communist Manifesto as a war of sorts, violent and hostile, his
description continues both in the Manifesto and in Capital, to delve deeper beneath the surface layer
and evolves into a more complete evaluation of their complex codependent relationship. As opposed
to two oppositional parts of a whole society, they are irrevocably linked and intertwined, by very ...

Marx depicts two camps at war, but shortly thereafter at a multifaceted association between them.
They are not two sides of a civil war, but rather more intimately linked. The Bourgeoisie are described
as leaders of an Industrial army (of Proletariat), indicating in some sense, the two being parts of a
singular mechanism, one driving toward progress. The Proletariat masses of labourers, crowded into
the factory, are organised like soldiers. As privates of the industrial army they are placed under the
command of a perfect hierarchy of officers and sergeants. Not only are they slaves of the bourgeois
class, and of the bourgeois State; they are daily and hourly enslaved by the machine, by the over
looker, and, above all, by the individual bourgeois manufacturer himself. 479 There is definitely
exploitation and oppression of the Proletariat by the Bourgeoisie, but they are both part of a working
system, that of Capitalism. By definition the one class depends on the other for its very existence. One
cannot define a group as the owners of the means of production, without having a separate group that
therefor is not; there can be no class distinguished

William Shakespeare s Portia
A protagonist is also often the character around whom the action of the play revolves. By this test,
Portia is also the protagonist, as without her, very little in the play would have remained the same.
Had Bassanio not been in love with Portia, he never would have asked Antonio for the money to woo
her and Antonio would not have entered into the bond with Shylock. Similarly, had the laws in the
Court of Justice been interpreted by any other lawyer, it I likely that Antonio would have lost his life.
At 588 lines, Portia also has more lines than any other character; 233 more than Shylock s 355 lines
and 400 more than Antonio s 188. Because of this, the scenes surrounding the caskets in Portia s home
should be viewed as trials for the protagonist, and not a sub plot, as they are often described. By any
definition, Portia is the protagonist of the play she exhibits the greatest change, the action of the play
revolves around her, and she has the largest number of spoken lines. Given her importance to the play,
how can the title, The Merchant of Venice, be reconciled? After all, Portia appears to be neither
Venetian nor a merchant.
While the play treats Belmont as a distant locale from Venice, a close reading indicates that the two
are in quite close proximity. When Portia is telling Nerissa of her plan to save Antonio, she tells
Nerissa that they must measure twenty miles to day (3.4.84). Because Portia must be back at Belmont
before Bassanio arrives there on

Hae Min Lee Case
Sarah Koenig, an investigator is investigating the case about a high schooler, Hae Min Lee, who was
found dead after school on January 13, 1999. She was a senior at Woodlawn High School in Baltimore
County in Maryland. People say that her ex boyfriend, Adnan Syed committed crime because both of
them broke up and he couldn t handle it. Because, of that, he had been in jail for at least 15 years now.
The real question is whether Adnan is innocent or guilty. Did he actually commit a crime? First, one of
the reasons why Adnan is innocent is that many of the people who knew him well said that he was a
very good kid. Usually, when people know a person very well, they would know the attitude of that
person very well too. Similarly, the people who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Asia wrote out an affidavit on the spot. In it, she says she and Adnan spoke for about 15 to 20 minutes
while she was waiting for her boyfriend to give her a ride. Quote, We left around 2:40, unquote.
Remember, Hae is supposed to be dead by 2:36. (Episode 1: The Alibi, pg 20) Asia remembers talking
to Adnan at the library after school when Hae was killed, so he couldn t have killed Hae. He wasn t
near Hae to kill her. In addition, Sarah met Asia to know more about where Adnan was after school.
And she told me, that day after school I went to the public library. And Adnan was sitting at a
computer, checking email or something. And I sat down next to him. We started chatting. And Adnan
was a very popular boy in school. He was handsome and popular with the ladies. So she was speaking
to him. And her boyfriend shows up a little bit later with a friend. And she said her boyfriend was
really angry at her, because he s like, why are you talking to him? You know, high school kids, why
are you talking to him? Is he hitting on you? (Episode 1: The Alibi, pg 19) Both Asia and her
boyfriend can be used as a proof to say that it was impossible for Adnan to commit the crime.

Seljuk Research Paper
As the power of the Abbasid caliphs diminished, a series of independent dynasties rose in various
parts of Iran, some with considerable influence and power. There were numerous overlapping
dynasties that existed in the area, similar to the ancient Greek city state concept.
Several Samanid cities had been lost to another Turkish group, the Seljuks, a clan of the Oghuz Turks,
who lived north of the Oxus River. Their leader, Tughril Beg, turned his warriors against the
Ghaznavids in Khorasan (Afghanistan). He moved south and then west, conquering but not wasting
the cities in his path.
In 1055 AD the caliph in Baghdad gave Tughril Beg gifts, and the title King of the East. Under Tughril

They brought Abu Hamid Ghazali, one of the greatest Islamic theologians, and other eminent scholars
to the Seljuk capital at Baghdad and encouraged and supported their work.
A serious internal threat to the Seljuks, however, came from the Ismaili s, a secret sect with
headquarters at Alamut close to Tehran. They controlled the immediate area for more than 150 years
and sporadically sent out adherents to strengthen their rule by murdering important officials. The word
assassins, which was applied to these murderers, developed from a European corruption of the name
applied to them in Syria, hashishiyya, because folklore had it that they smoked hashish before their
missions.
After the death of Malik Shah in 1092, Iran once again reverted to petty dynasties. During this time,
Genghis Khan brought together a number of Mongol tribes and led them on a devastating sweep
through China. Then, in 1219, he turned his 700,000 forces west and quickly devastated Bukhara,
Samarkand, Balkh, Merv, and Neyshabur. Before his death in 1227, he had reached western

  • 2. A Brief Look at France II. Essay One The state which we today call France has undergone significant change since its origins as the territory of Gaul. Between the years 480 and 1780, this territory was reshaped in terms of both its physical boundaries and its inhabitants and rulers, creating a rich history of the nation of modern France. First, in order to analyze the evolution of the state of France, it is necessary to define the concept of the state. A state is a territory, defined by physical or imagined boundaries, containing a population of people that is governed by a select few of those people. Within the state, the government has authority and the power to impose their power on the rest of the population, enacting laws such as taxation, fighting wars, and implementing a criminal justice system. It is now appropriate to consider the territorial expansion and, at times, contraction of France from 480 and 1780. Before France was united in any kind of Frankish state, the territory we now call France was mostly comprised of an area called Gaul. This area, existing in parts of Spain and Rome, parts of present day Belgium, Germany, Austria and other European nations, and south of England and the English channel, was inhabited by the Gauls up until the end of Roman rule in the 1st 3rd centuries CE. The region was populated by tribes and loosely connected governing bodies up until the 5th century CE, when it first began to take shape under Clovis. Clovis I had established himself as the first ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Influence Of Religion In Canterbury Tales The author of The Canterbury Tales had much to say when it came to religion and the religious people of his society. Chaucer gave descriptions on a number of characters from different backgrounds. He had a certain bias towards people who are truly good while the truly bad people were made fun of by him He paid special attention to a character when the topic of religion was involved. With the Pardoner s Tale, the Pardoner acted like a hypocrite and the author made sure to point out his hypocrisy, be it implied or expressed in the story. Chaucer was one of the very few who had the courage to criticize church officials in his lifetime, and it shows that he had a swell time doing it as well. That is why Chaucer, the author of The Canterbury Tales, viewed religion and church officials as a joke because he made fun of most of the religious characters in his prologue, was more meticulous towards religious characters on the topic of religion, and pointed out the hypocrisy of the Pardoner s morals in his character description and in the Pardoner s Tale. Chaucer made fun of most of the religious characters in his prologue. One of the very first church officials in the prologue is the Nun. The Nun is supposed to constantly be pure and holy, but Chaucer introduces her physical appearance by jokingly saying Her forehead, certainly, was fair of spread, Almost a span across the brows, I own (109: 158 159). Chaucer is certainly known for joking around in the Canterbury ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Suburban South Analysis 1. What are the major claims/conclusions? Where can you find them stated? To begin, the authors claim that the the suburbs had not played a central or often even an explicit role in the historical analysis of southern politics and society since World War II (p.692) Then, they claim that The suburbs of the postwar South, however, were home to many of the most dynamic and cutting edge forces anywhere in the region. (p.693) Both authors also claim that the insights of urban and suburban history provide a national frame work for interpreting the long civil rights movement (p.696), and that The rapid growth of the suburban South has opened up many new possibilities for research (p.701 third paragraph) Although this is not the final paragraph ... • 5. Disease Paper Today, there are many diseases people have to deal with. Some of them are treatable and some of them are permanent. One of the visible autoimmune diseases is vitiligo. Vitiligo occurs when melanocytes die or stop producing the pigment that gives a skin, hair, and eye color. When people have vitiligo the skin becomes whiter, and it usually occurs on skin on both sides of the body. The exact trigger is not known, but it relates to the immune system to attack, destroy the melanin forming cells because of the family history, sunburn, stress, or exposure to chemicals. It can happen at any age, but usually occurs before the age 20. In the article For Vitiligo Patient, Arthritis Drug Restores Skin Color from June 24, 2015 says that a ... There are also a treatment that is used as a combination medication and light therapy. The patient will need to take in or apply medication called psoralen. After that, the patient exposed to ultraviolet A or UVA light. The skin turns pink and more normal skin color started to appear. It takes six to 12 months. The risk is that the skin might have bad sunburn, blistering, itching, over darkening, or risk of skin cancer. Another option is surgery, which is done by removing a small section of the skin and moving it to affected areas. This procedure called skin grafting. Lastly, the tattooing is used, when a doctor uses a surgical instrument to implant pigment in the skin. The negative part is that it is quite difficult to match the skin color, and tattoos tend to fade with time. Sometimes this technique causes more vitiligo patches. In conclusion, whether to treat vitiligo or leave it untreated, it is each every person s decision. In today s world with many resources available there is no exact cure for this autoimmune disease, which is really sad. I think that it is not a very popular topic since people are not going to die and it is not a disease, which will affect others if to become in contact. The main things that people should do are use sunscreen on the white spots. This white spot never tan, they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Research Paper on Facebook Diminishing Privacy Privacy is often defined as freedom from the observation, intrusion, or attention of others. If that was taken away from daily life the world would become a collection of omniscient beings that walk around with potentially harmful information about those surrounding them. Stalking would be unnecessary because the internet would do all for the work for us. Social networking sites are creating many such concerns. One of the most widely known social networking sites is Facebook. When reviewing Facebook s privacy policy, you may want to keep in mind that an examination of Facebook s privacy policy shows that the informedchoicemodel is completely unrealistic (Grimmelmann).Facebook not only helps our friends learn more about our daily life, ... That family member can now see where your friend is, who they re with, and what they re doing. This is usually a less than desirable occurrence. Another popular feature is the ability to upload photos. Users share four Billion pieces of content per day, including uploads of 250million photos (Wilson). When you add a picture to your Facebook you re given the ability to tag your friends in it. This presents the same privacy issues as tagging a friend in your status. Some may even consider being tagged in a picture to be worse than being tagged in a status. As they say, a picture speaks a thousand words, and most of us don t think about what implications those words may have on our friends before tagging them in seemingly harmless photos. Besides your friends and possible risquΓ© activities being displayed in your pictures, your location may be obvious. Deriving your location based on your surroundings may be harder than looking at a location check in, but it is far from impossible, especially with motivation. • 7. The Southwest Blackout Of 2003 The Northeast blackout of 2003 was one of the most critical blackouts in the history which affected more than 50 million people in both the United States and Canada. The main cause of this disaster was a software bug in the energy management system used by FirstEnergy Corporation, located in Akron, Ohio. This is a perfect example of poor quality coding may led to a big disaster. For a perfectly planned power grid, the power generation of each region is matched with the power consumption within this region, so that the power lines will always carry a reasonable workload. If one power line fails to work, other parallel lines would have to carry extra power, which is bad for safety and may lead to fire. The power system operators are the ones ... Then, because the workload was assigned to other lines, several other lines in the region also declined to work for self protection, and the whole Ohio and Michigan got blackout short after. The company and other government departments noticed the problem, but hardly have anything to do at the time. The cascading effect is already unstoppable. Each generating plant can only separate their generators from the power grid to prevent the large current destroy their generators. So almost all the generating plants in northeastern United States and Ontario went offline, and the whole region got blackout. This happened in only 2 hours. Water pumps cannot work without power supply, so some areas also have water supply problem. And other services like public transportation (e.g. TTC streetcars), communication, and media (radio and TV stations) also affected. Some areas recovered from the blackout the same night, but most areas did not get power back until August 16th, two days after the accident. Both United States government and Canada government were criticized, and they adopted some policy to prevent future blackouts after it. Following the blackout, a thorough investigation of the energy control system was taken. GE s developers looked through millions of lines of code and log to find the bug, and it them weeks to finally locate the bug. The bug is known as a race condition in computer science, ... • 8. Canada Health Act Essay The Undermining of the Canada Health Act Abstract In the past, Canada s government funded, universally accessible, health care system has been praised and admired both at home and abroad as one of the finest in the world. A great source of pride and comfort for many Canadians is that it is based on five fundamental principles. Principles that are a reflection of the values held by Canadian citizens since the formation of Medicare in 1966. These principles were reinforced in the Canada Health Act, (CHA), of 1984 and state that the Canadian system is universal, accessible, portable, comprehensive and non profit. Accessibility and quality are being threatened due to cutbacks coupled with a lack of funding. There is a consensus now between medical professionals, the public, and the government that the health care system is deteriorating. It is failing to provide the quality of care promised in the CHA and prided by so many Canadians. Yet the strings on the public purse continue to tighten. Transfer payments from the federal government continue to decrease as provincial debt loads increase. And, although the minister of health and the premier assured them that the costs of health care were doubling or even tripling, Albertans have witnessed a steady decline in government spending on health care. The proportion of gross domestic product, (GDP), which Alberta allocates to health care is ranked last among the ten provinces, (Taft, 1997). Albertans now find themselves with a struggling health care system and a waiting list. The proposed solution from current Alberta government would see the health care system incorporate the private sector. The government Most of all the government is looking to decrease cost, increase accessibility and efficiency. ***** . It also says in this chapter Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. And this is saying that if you follow God you will do anything to be with him even if it s the hard way. I think of a person named Daniel when I think about this, Daniel was a person who prayed to God no matter what, every day, every night. It was half way through the year and our mother had decided to ship us off to a boarding school for girls. Ava!!!! Sophia was an incredibly adventurous person. I on the other hand would like a nice relaxing day reading a book and leaving the adventures to the characters in my stories. As I reached the bottom of the staircase the doorbell rang and broke my train of thought. I ve got it!! Sophia said as she raced to the door. I followed after her. She opened the door and stood staring. Looking down at us was a tall slim figure of a woman. She had such a pinched up face and I wondered how uncomfortable it must be. Sophia, Ava? She said sharply. We both nodded our heads in unison. I m Mrs Cox the Principal of Greenvale Girls Boarding school. I ve come to pick you up I looked at Sophia. She shrugged and went to tell mother who was probably in the kitchen. I was left with this woman staring at me. We stood awkwardly in silence, well she didn t seem to find it awkward. Finally Sophia and mother came around the corner and rescued me from Mrs Cox poison glare. As I hopped into Mrs Cox car I waved bye to mother and turned to Sophia. Sophia I said. She turned to look at me. What do you think it will be like? I said. Be quiet! Mrs Cox yelled from the front passenger s seat. Sophia shrugged and put her feet up of the seat in front. • 16. Modern Horror Film Analysis Why are modern audiences still going to watch horror movies? How are they still scared of vampires, zombies, and conveniently isolated cabins? Perhaps the horror comes from the new stories told with that same tool set. As New York Times film reviewer A. O. Scott says in his thoughts on Drew Goddard s The Cabin in The Woods, Novelty and genre traditionalism often fight to a draw. Scott s claim is correct, finding a delicate balance between novel plot devices and reliable scares is one of the main troubles of the modern horror genre. Many modern horror films, The Cabin in the Woods included, use their novelty to create a compelling story while scaring the audience with the classic tropes. Modern horror films don t have to scare in a whole new way, and they often don t. But, a predictable movie is a boring one, and as such novelty is used to keep the audience on their toes during modern horror films. Though novel horror films such as The Cabin in the Woods and Cargo don t need novelty to create fear, the novelty is essential in balancing with the demands of the genre to create interesting stories. The Cabin in the Woods is a 2011 horror film directed by Drew Goddard that follows the slasher film roadmap to a tee, yet is sure to keep audiences enthralled throughout. Five teenagers head out to an isolated forest cabin to be indiscriminately killed by a gang of terrifying monsters. Many people would define their own family culture differently, but there are times when it may overlap with another person. Throughout our world, there are many cultures. These can be divided into subcategories such as people or ethnic groups within a community to the social aspect of society. When it comes to specific cultures, it may result in people behaving or thinking a certain way. This ties into conformity. The question of whether or not conforming to society may bring honor or prevent shame to an individual or group is something that could be debateable. This paper will be exploring the idea of conformity between Scarlet Letter and Red Azalea. Both stories contain a womanly figure who takes charge in dealing with difficulties that may arise. The general idea of culture that is ingrained into the brains of many people, may consist of associating culture with countries or ethnic groups. One of the main key points to this term is that it incorporates much more than just those two aspects. When viewing it from a sociological perspective, culture can be deconstructed into 3 components. Through background knowledge after taking a sociology class, values, norms, and artifacts when combined, is what defines the term culture. These aspects that create culture, can differentiate a family from one another. When taking the broad idea of culture and then applying it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cashless society is basically a society in which cash is not valued including checks. The only payment that can be expectable is credit card, debit, and transitions. Therefore, the United States of America should not go cashless in order to keep the trust of its population and maintain the safety of the country especially for the people living in that particular area. Banks can easily manipulate the people. Individuals need to put in mind that when their money are in banks, the money is automatically controlled by the banks and obviously that money is not theirs at that point. Banks have the right to do whatever they want to do with the money without asking one s opinion and there are some of the time when the bank may be unwilling or unable to return [back the] money when someone is in need (Burnham). Other may said that most banks are regulated by the government illegally, so it is impossible for banks to manipulate people. Well is true, however, in the past banks hurt people through manipulation. For example, housing crisis, cars, and other materials. The use of wealth dictates the entire world, and as a result, power, success, and improvement come with the logical and thoughtful control of money. So why does Canada strive for success if the government can t cut funds towards useless motions? The Canadian government should fund the military less. As of 2016, the Canadian government spent $19 billion, roughly 1.35% of Canada s total GDP funding the military. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Higher priority motions than the military need funding. A first example of a motion that has a higher priority need for funding than the military is the economic stability of the Canadian government. As shown in the previous paragraph, Canadian economy is struggling and extremely vulnerable. To ensure a stable life for Canadian citizens, the government should take the responsibility to take care of its citizens, hence, funding the Canadian military less. A second motion that would use military funds more efficiently is the funding of environmental preservation. Due to the large quantities of CO2 being released into the atmosphere at an exponential, and thus, alarming rate, the average global temperature is rising. Scientists say that if the current release of carbon keeps up, dramatic effects such as more droughts and heat waves, a massive rise in sea levels and more intense hurricanes are impossible to avoid. The Canadian government cannot ignore the fact that the country s current path is headed for disaster, and money needs to be directed towards this motion before it s too late. A final example of a motion that is far more urgent than the funding of the Canadian military is funding the poor. Regardless of efforts Canada has tried to minimize poverty rates, huge amounts of people are still stuck with low income. 4.9 million people are categorized as poor in Canada, 3 million of which are children. It is irresponsible of the Canadian government to use money ineffectively when so many people are barely hanging onto their prosperity. She even continues to aid the poor despite the fact that they not unfrequently insulted the hand that fed them (Hawthorne 75). Despite the fact that it was in Hester s best interests not to aid those around her, she continued to do so. This evidences her sheer strength of character as the heroine of the novel. Hester s loyalty is also magnified by her selfless nature, as her willingness to sacrifice lends itself well to remaining loyal to others. Hester also selflessly bears the burden of the entire community s sin. Hester perceives the hidden sin in other hearts around her and because her sin has been uncovered, she alone bears the penalty for deviancy (Taylor). According to Gordon Fee, the first epistle of Peter was written around 64 65 A.D. from the city of Rome. Peter mentions Babylon in his writing, but this is actually more of a nickname of some sort for Rome. He could have been referring to the ancient city of Babylon, but this is most likely not the case. Babylon and Rome are very similar in that they were both worldly cities undergoing persecution of Christians, but Peter is probably referring to Rome as the Babylon of the day. The recipients of First Peter were mostly Gentile believers in five provinces of Asia Minor: Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia (Fee 402). Paul or some of his workers had founded churches in some of these areas, and the churches addressed were made up of mostly Gentiles, but also some Jewish members too. Everyday situations, such as cooking, require reaction rates to be increased. To bake some cookies, you place them inside an oven. But why is that? Well, placing the cookies in the oven speeds up the rate of the reaction by heating it up. When the cookies have more heat energy, they cook faster. Additives may be added to foods to speed up the reaction. These are called catalysts. Likewise, we place milk in our fridges to slow down the reaction rate by removing heat and preventing the milk from going bad. This is because the milk would turn sour if we left it out near a window. (14) Enzymes are used to speed up biological reactions. When digesting food, enzymes are used as biological catalysts to speed up metabolisms. Excess heat from this is used to regulate the temperature of endothermic animals bodies. When a person is ill, their body temperature increases as heat fights bacteria by slowing down the rate of bacteria production. Respiration is another example of when reactions are sped up in biological systems. Rates of reactions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In order to live the good life, one must eliminate all pain and live a life with maximum pleasure. Unlike other hedonist philosophers, Epicurus evaluated pleasures by their duration rather than their intensity, making psychological pleasures much more desirable to physical pleasures. Epicurus, as a consequentialist thought that in order to achieve the good life, one had to logically assess future consequences of human actions through rational reflection and evaluation. If one were to rationally reflect on death they would soon realise that there was nothing but oblivion after death (de Botton 2000, p. 59). The Leading Doctrines of Epicurean philosophy state that it is impossible to live the pleasant life without also living sensibly, nobly and justly, and conversely it is impossible to live sensibly, nobly and justly without living pleasantly (Epicurus, 1998b, p.53). Therefore, the good Epicurean believes in order to live virtuously, one must adhere to a pleasurable life. For Epicureans it is impossible to live virtuously and unpleasantly or vice versa. In addition, Epicurus describes pleasure as our primary native good (Epicurus 1998a, p. 51), implying that all human actions are driven by pleasures and by the avoidance of pains. Another imperative concept to Epicurean philosophy is Epicurus idea of the three fundamental aspects in attaining pleasure, those of friendship, freedom and an analysed life

Aboriginal women have been having a really hard time, being not only aboriginal, but also women in a male dominated society where women are seen as secondary and don t have all the rights and privileges that men have. We will focus here on the legal discrimination against indigenous women in Canada that came with the Indian Act of 1876 and the amendment of 1985, how those two events influenced women. We will first study why indigenous women have been more discriminated than indigenous men, then how the Indian Act reinforced this inequity. Then we will see how the 1985 amendment came to be, a century later and what are the consequences of legal discrimination for indigenous women in Canada. We will conclude that, in a context of discrimination against natives with colonization, the Indian Act made legal injustices in detriment of indigenous women, and that after years of favouritism against them they finally gained a bit of justice through the amendment of 1985. First of all, it s important to understand the context in which the Indian Act is taking place in terms of equity for aboriginal women. Each of these is equality important in their own ways to people when choosing what school they think is best for them. The first topic, which is very important is tuition. Introduced in The Communist Manifesto as a war of sorts, violent and hostile, his description continues both in the Manifesto and in Capital, to delve deeper beneath the surface layer and evolves into a more complete evaluation of their complex codependent relationship. The Proletariat masses of labourers, crowded into the factory, are organised like soldiers. By this test, Portia is also the protagonist, as without her, very little in the play would have remained the same. Had Bassanio not been in love with Portia, he never would have asked Antonio for the money to woo her and Antonio would not have entered into the bond with Shylock. Similarly, had the laws in the Court of Justice been interpreted by any other lawyer, it I likely that Antonio would have lost his life. At 588 lines, Portia also has more lines than any other character; 233 more than Shylock s 355 lines and 400 more than Antonio s 188. Because of this, the scenes surrounding the caskets in Portia s home should be viewed as trials for the protagonist, and not a sub plot, as they are often described. By any definition, Portia is the protagonist of the play she exhibits the greatest change, the action of the play revolves around her, and she has the largest number of spoken lines. Given her importance to the play, how can the title, The Merchant of Venice, be reconciled? After all, Portia appears to be neither Venetian nor a merchant.
