spun off to shareholders in August 1999. On 5/29/01, Conoco purchased Gulf Canada Resources.
Phillips Petroleum acquired Tosco, the largest U.S. independent refiner, on 2/4/01. On 11/18/01,
Phillips and Conoco agreed on a merger of equals ; ConocoPhillips would become the world s sixth
largest oil and gas company based on reserves. The motives and consequences of these mergers were
similar. In this paper, the Exxon Mobil transaction is analyzed as representative of these major oil
merger transactions. As a clinical study, this paper seeks to provide a format for analyzing mergers
under eight major topics: (I) industry characteristics, (II) merger motivations, (III) deal terms and
event returns, (IV) valuation analysis, (V) sensitivity analysis, (VI)

Lawrence Kohlberg (1927 1987) further developed the works of Piaget (1896 1980) in regards to
moral development. This essay will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of Kohlberg s theory in a
critical manner, looking at the positive aspects of his research and the disadvantages of the types of
situations he gave in his experiments, the universal accuracy of his results and the controversial
findings of sex differences in regards to morality. Kohlberg advanced Piaget s theory of moral
development and interviewed 10 13 year old boys to find out how they would attempt to resolve moral
issues. These issues varied between situations that involved obeying the law, authority figure or rule
and ones that would conflict these rules in order to serve a human need. From the answers that were
given Kohlberg devised three levels, each split up into two stages, that he believed were universally
found and that every person went through to advance their levels of morality (Shaffer Kipp, 2007).
One of the major advantages of using Kohlberg s theory of moral development over Piaget s is the
universal nature of the findings. Colby Kohlberg, (1987) found a strong positive correlation between
age and maturity levels of moral reasoning in the United States, Mexico, the Bahamas, Taiwan,
Turkey, Honduras, India, Nigeria and Kenya. This research support does indeed suggest that Kohlberg

My understanding is that some scrutiny means the third way. Early leaders rejected the grip of catholic
church state control over people s lives. Their ideas and insistence on separation between church and
state is an attempt for the third way. We still believe that all mankind, because of Adam s fall, has

sins came the gross social inequality, the wars and despotism, that curse our existence. For most of our

Dissection of the Gastrocnemius Muscle and the Sciatic Nerve
In this experiment the frog sciatic nerve was used; the frogs were carefully handled and deeply
anesthetized in order to be permanently unconscious. Pithing was used to destroy the brain pain center
making the frog insensitive to pain. The gastrocnemius muscle was dissected and the sciatic nerve was
carefully removed. The frog ringer solution was prepared. The ingredients used included 0.14g of
KCl, 6.5g of NaCl, 0.3g of CaCl2.2H2O and 0.5g NaHCO3. These were mixed in 600ml of distilled
water and the pH was held between 7 7.4. This solution was used throughout the experiment to keep
the nerve moist order to obtain accurate results.
Electrophysiological Configuration of the BIOPAC
A standard nerve chamber called BIPOAC was used in this experiment; the nerve along with the
muscle was placed on the electrodes of this chamber. An amplifier with a 100 AC gain and filter band
pass of 0.1 Hz to 10Hz sampled by IGOR software was used to amplify the response of the nerve
when stimulus is applied. IGOR is an integrated program for visualizing, analyzing, transforming and
presenting data. Using this program the thresholds of the compound action potential, end plate

When I was waiting to perform at my first speech competition I realized that I couldn t breath. It was
as if all the air in the room had been sucked out. I felt like I had entered an empty, soundless vacuum,
almost as if I had been sucked into space. I half expected myself to become weightless and float
around the room, but this didn t happen. Instead of this, I stood frozen in the middle of a classroom in
front of a dozen other people. I was the center of attention, and I hated every second of it. I was
debating whether or not I should just turn around and sprint out the door, but before I could make a
decision the lady in the front desk smiled at me and said something along the lines of ready whenever
you are . The moment she said this two things crossed my mind: the first one being I m fucked, and
the second being how did I end up here? Unfortunately I didn t have time to answer that question
because at that moment I had to do the hardest thing in front of my life: performing and speaking in
