Effects Of The Crusades On Western Civilizations
Stephanie Alfonso
April 27,2016
Humanities
Consequences of the Crusades The crusades were a series of religious wars that though they took
place centuries ago, they are still often discussed today. The crusades were a religious war between the
Christian and Muslim states that lasted years. The Byzantine Empire, which had thrived spread over
the coastal areas of the Mediterranean...now found itself increasingly challenged by the navies and
pirates of Isla. The contest between these two sides were to generate seeds of the first Crusade (Paine
8 9). Some claim that the Crusades offered nothing but a negative impact to western civilization,
however, that may not be the case. On the contrary, the Crusades provided a positive short term and ...

This also cause the split between the Eastern and Western orthodox churches to deepen. Some believe
that one of the wars was based on some wanting to impose the authority of the Roman church to the
east, though this assumption has never been proven. The great schism divided Christendom into
Eastern orthodox churches and Roman catholic churches. The tension between the split of these two
types of churches was heightened then heightened by the pope and patriarch by not allowing the
Greek and Latin languages in their churches. Both the Byzantine Orthodox church and the Roman
catholic church attempted to wipe out divergent practices and beliefs... (Paine 12). There was also
tension over which church held more authority. The crusades however did not only have short term
consequences, these wars also had a large long term consequences on development of western
civilization. Including long term economic benefits, advancements in technology, and a growth in
urban culture. One of the long term affects the crusades had on western civilization is the economic
benefits. As discussed in one of the previous paragraphs, western Europe benefited economically of
the crusades because of trade. This benefits the development of western civilization because it opened
the opportunity to have long distance trade. Many of these trades were able to happen because of this
accessibility to the Mediterranean allowing them to trade with the far east. Allowing

Nurse Ratched Quotes
Oral Script
1. Character
Name
There are quite a few interpretations of Nurse Ratched s name that could be made, all of which
suggest she is an evil, oppressive character.
The first is the nickname rat shed given to her by McMurphy. The association of rats with disease
suggests that the nurse infects the orderlies and other nurses with her desire for order and control. Rats
also carry the connotation that she is a despicable and corrupting character.
The interpretation of her name sounding like Ratchet ties into the mechanical imagery associated with
her, and shows that she is a part of the combine, and could also suggest that she ratchets patients into
conformity. Her name sounding like the word wretched further suggests that she is ... Show more

This description is rather dehumanising, and makes her sound like a factory produced machine, rather
than a person. This firmly associates her with the Combine, and makes the reader think of her in terms
of the Combine, rather than as a person in her own right.
Size
Throughout the novel, Nurse Ratched is referred to as the Big Nurse , and this represents her authority
and control over the other patients. Compounding this is the references to the smallness of the other
characters, most notably the Chief, who physically is by far the largest character in the novel. It is the
Chief s increase in size relative to the nurse which gave him the confidence to secede from the nurse s
control and make his own escape from the hospital.
2. Society
Nurse Ratched is representative of society itself, or more specifically the oppressive and repressive
influence of rules and regulations in society. The Combine that the Chief talks about throughout the
novel is essentially this repressive influence, and the Nurse is basically a physical manifestation of the

Reviewing the Necessity of Punishment Essay
Reviewing the Necessity of Punishment
From On Crimes and Punishment by Cesare Beccaria is an excerpt from On Crimes and Punishment.
In his address to the public, particularly those in political positions, Beccaria discusses the way we as
a society choose to carry out the law. What he calls useless severity of punishment encompasses his
thoughts on extremes such as capital punishment and the cruelties that we allow our government to
inflict upon its own people in a failing attempt to bring order to our society. The death penalty has
plagued our society for centuries, perhaps beginning with the idea of human sacrifice that has been
turned around as a cycle of never ending death and cruelty. The writing techniques employed by ...

Cesare Beccaria is quick to point out the opposing view to his statement, then use it as reinforcement
for his own argument. Discussing capital punishment, he clearly states that many countries, if not
most, practice this and have done so for centuries. He doesn t give his audience much time to think
about that as he quickly calls the history of mankind a vast sea of errors, among which there float a
few confused truths, each one far from the next (68). Instead of just referring to the mistakes made in
our history, Beccaria calls them a vast sea of errors implying that these mistakes are so tremendous in
number and carry such weight with them that they have not been given enough credit for the tragedies
they have caused. It is also unclear if Beccaria is insulting his opponent, adding their opinion to this
vast sea of errors. In turn, the reader doesn t want their thoughts bunched with these erroneous
opinions. The author claims these mistakes are the effect of confused truths. To the reader, confused
truths equates fallacy. The diction is presented in an oxy moron fashion that reinforces his statement
with delicate language, leaving the audience to question his opponent s view. Adding these
complicated, descriptive words, Beccaria reinstates an argument more likely used by his opponent,
then slams the statement with vague evidence to make his audience give more thought to his argument

Entitlement And Provision For Early Years Education
Unit 4.
Assessment Criteria 4.1.1.
Summarise entitlement and provision for early years education.
There are many different entitlements and provisions established for early years education.
Nursery schools, pre schools, and playgroups all provide learning and play activities, family support,
early intervention and childcare for all children under the age of five years old.
Nursery schools are predominantly attached to a Surestart centre, which work with children and
parents providing education for both, full day care provision, parenting advice, and health and family
support, or to a primary school. Where as pre schools and playgroups are normally privately owned
and operated, offering childcare, play and education activities.
Since 2004 all children in the UK aged 3 and 4 years old have been entitled to free places at nurseries
and pre school and even under the care of a childminder for up to 12.5 hours per week, this provision
was increased to 15 hours per week from 2010.Day nurseries also offer the same provisions for early
years education, but are usually run within a business, or by a voluntary group.
Free entitlement and provision provides universal access for all to early years education, play
activities, and childcare, which are all extremely beneficial to children and their short and long term
educational, social, and behavioural development.

Summary Of Love Triangles In The Knight s Tale
If you want to end a love triangle, then either make it a line or a square.
Courtly love is simply a knight flirting with a nobleman s wife or vice versa. But in this story, it is two
men flirting the same person. This obviously destroys the relationship between the two flirtatious
competitors, which is what happened in The Knight s Tale . They are prisoners of war, and locked in a
tower for eternity. When they see a beautiful woman, they both fall in love, escape, and fight each
other for her hand.
Palamon and Arcite are locked in a tower in athens by Theseus after surviving a battle. They are fairly
close cousins, but when both see a beautiful woman, Emily, in a nearby garden, they immediately fall
in love. Since love triangles never work, the cousins are blood thirsty for each other and try to kill
each other. They eventually find themselves in an arena ready to fight for the hand of Emily, winner
takes all. Each person prays to and gets the help of a certain god. The three main gods in this text are
venus, the god of fertility, mars, the god of war, and Diana, the god of chastity. Venus helped Palamon,
Mars helped Arcite, and Diana helped Emily. Venus and her temple are significant in this story
because she is the goddess of love and sex. This story deals with the different connections of the
flirters and the flirted.
In this Quote, the Narrator, the knight, is describing the temple of Venus in the arena.
First, in the fame of Venus, one might see, Wrought on the

A Dream Of Passion By Euripides Medea And Apollonius s...
The character Medea is a well known character throughout Greek culture due to Euripides s Medea
and Apollonius s Argonautika. Jules Dassin s A Dream of Passion presents the story of Medea in a
modern way, allowing myth and reality to intertwine. Because the film is based on the myth, the two
main characters in the film, Maya and Brenda, share many qualities to Medea, such as killing of their
children. Common themes, such as the position of women in society, are also presented in both
mediums. These similarities show that Euripides and Dassin are conveying the same ideas using
different methods.
As stated in the paragraph above, Maya has a lot in common with Medea. However, we do not see that
until later in the movie. She originally starts off as a character who is very unlike Medea. She does not
understand the passion of Medea. Kostas, the director, asks her to repeat Okay. My director, my love.
When she does, her love does not come across and this frustrates him. According to Kostas, No love is
no passion and no passion is no Medea. At this point, we already see the differences between Maya
and Medea. Early in the film, Maya claimed that she would rather go to battle than to give birth to a
child. It is evident she wants to focus on acting, hoping to revive her career. She seems to care only
about her image; she demands the costume designer to pick out costumes that make her look younger.
Furthermore, when suggested that she visit Brenda to better understand Medea, she

Servant Of Allah By Diouf
Subsequent to perusing substance of the book Servants of Allah by Diouf, clarifies and gets inside and
out of the work of African American and religious history, there is very little thought about the
historical backdrop of African American in Islam, however this book talks about the greatest effects
that Islam and African American Muslims had on the Americans.
Islam was the second Methodism religion brought into the post 1492 Americans. African Muslims
were seemed, by all accounts, to be show slaves, yet that was just face of their attributes. They carried
custom of resistance and defiance with them. Furthermore, they demonstrated opposing toward their

reality they bring resistance, and that was against the model slaves. I trust this was huge effect on the
grounds that the settlements needed to take hostile to Muslim measures to shield the provinces from

be traced back to the recitation of the Qur an by slaves who read during hard times. The melody is
thought to be similar to the way the west Africans read. This is interesting because todays music like
Hip Hop with its rhythmic style has a direct influence from Blues music. Another influence we see
today is that of headgears such as du rags and bandanas, the Muslim slave population had a look of
turbans and head caps. It is astonishing that America has a trace of Islam in it, something that I would
have never guessed. Looking at Muslim majority areas like Saudi Arabia and Somalia you see men
wearing turbans and kufis. I believe everything about Islam works with somewhat with every culture

That did not get so far because Squanto died all of a sudden, we think because the Wampanoags, but

Goal Analysis
The underlying values I had to support the goal to exercise at least twice a week was perseverance,
patience, and willpower. All these values are necessary for me to achieve this goal as I m generally a
laid back person and I would not do anything without a little push. Sam, my roommate and best friend,
is usually the one to get me off my butt.
The specific affects, behaviors, and cognitions I have been dealing with widely varied with my
schedule. My affects for this goal were I was tired after a long day of classes or I felt frustrated that I
could not reach the mini goals I set for myself. My behaviors were usually running on the treadmill
and walking to the McCann gym, which takes a lot of forcing to go. My cognitions were that I was not
getting fit so I was wasting my time, and if I get healthier, I don t get to eat what I want. These factors
hinder my progress in achieving my goal as they don t make me feel good and keep from doing them.

Nutrition is a major factor in why I did not want to work out as I like to eat anything sweet without a
second thought so I have to eat less of them. Using and withholding rewards could go with nutrition as
I should have not tried to go all at once to work out with a solid plan and is why it backfired. Being in
the moment matters as it can help focus on the present where exercise matters the most as opposed to
thinking about the future straight on.
Procrastination got in the way of achieving my goal as I always put exercise as last in my list of things
to get done as I would rather relax with friends or play video games. I m a major procrastinator despite
being extremely organized. It s almost an oxymoron, but procrastination keeps me from achieving

The Kama Sutra and Class Correlation
Kama Sutra
Question: If Kama Sutra was meant for the Upper Leisure class of the Indian population, is there any

What is Vatsyayana s targeted demographic of readers when he wrote the Kama Sutra? Was it
exclusive to the leisure class of the Indian society? Or did it also include the lower class? There is
evidence that suggests that the text is biased for the aristocrats, as the practices described require time

Vatsyayana explains that Kama is the enjoyment of appropriate objects, which implies that in order to
attain kama, one must have the money to take pleasure in materialistic objects. On top of that, he
organizes a list of arts that should be studied along with Kama Sutra, which include activities that
could be considered as time consuming and overly ostentatious for the lower class. Among the many
activities to do is the spreading and arranging beds or couches of flowers, or flowers upon the ground
or making artificial flowers (Vatsyayana 66). While these activities may seem overly extravagant and
absurd for the lower class as they are the working class and wouldn t be able to afford investing their
time and wealth into it, Vatsyayana emphasizes that kama is a sense of pleasure of the five senses . . .
assisted by the mind together with the soul, (Vatsyayana 63). Therefore money and time are not
necessities to obtain kama. His assertion of how [s]exual intercourse being a thing dependent on man
and women requires the application of proper means by them . . . (Vatsyayana 63) indicates that kama
could also be acquired by physical activities, and materialistic objects are not needed. Although they
are not not able to take part in lavish pleasure like that of the upper class, the lower class population
nonetheless can gain attain kama through different means as Vatsyayana s Karma Sutra includes all

Rhetorical Language In Apollo 11
What I will be doing in this essay is using all my knowledge of rhetorical language and analyze four
pieces of literature. Over the past weeks I have learned many skills and what makes up a good
persuasive piece and what doesn t make a good persuasive piece and I will put all my knowledge
about rhetoric language to use. The four pieces I will be analyzing are all related to the Apollo 11
mission, which took place in 1969 which put humans on the moon for the first time,I will discuss the
purpose, how it adjusts to their own audience they are trying to appeal to, how the speaker and subject
affects the text, how it appeals to pathos, ethos, and logos , and finally if it is effective in
accomplishing its purpose.
The first text I will be analyzing is a news article from the Times of London reporting the event. It was
made right after the moon mission on a 5 a.m. edition of the paper. The landing of the shuttle was at
3:39 a.m.and Neil Armstrong took his first steps at 3:56 a.m. so the newspaper was made shortly right
after. It was made for the citizens of London to give more information about the Apollo 11 mission
and moon landing and talked about all the big things that happened. The speaker, occasion, and
subject all effect the text by making it informational and providing the citizens with the big
information that happened. It got into people s emotions by creating hype and making it seem like a

Female Violence In Caroline Knox s Lizzie Borden
Female violence sounds like a patriarchal heresy. In the time of the Lizzie Borden trial, women were
expected by society to be seen and not heard, marry a man that their family approved of, and
procreate, because that s quite clearly all they are good for. So even the slightest notion that women
could ever think of committing a violent crime sent people running for the hills. The Victorian era was
a time where intimate female friendships were a normalized commonplace, so the notion that a
particular woman could swing a particular weapon at her step mother and father was quite out there.
Authors have taken these cultural criterions and used them to create their version of murder mysteries.
Caroline Knox is a decorated poet who wrote Lizzie Borden through Art and Literature , which will be
the highlight of this synthesis. Knox compares Borden s parricides to historical events that were
turning points of their time period. Likening female violence to such events puts a new perspective on
the violent act, because it this time, this was unimaginable. The end of the empires was like Borden s
crime, because neither were heard of or fathomable. Utilizing the female violence theme really gives
an edge that would not be attainable otherwise, simply because it was so scandalous for women to step
out of the domestic sphere. Authors express the complexities associated with female violence through
comparing Borden s parricides to the fall of empirical forces.

Item Analysis Assignment
For this assignment I used my formative assessment for the unit of germs. This assessment was given
at the end of the unit in order to see how students were comprehending the material. The assessment
had a total of five questions. I did this because my students are five and six years old and I did not
want to overload them with questions and stress them out. I just wanted to know who comprehended
the material and who needed extra support. Once the assessment was completed by the students I
completed an item analysis of the test. This item analysis was able to give me insight on my

The data that I received from completing my item analysis is that the assessment maybe too easy and I

students because it allows for the student to show me what they know. Also the assessment tool fits
my classroom dynamic and the age that I teach. In order to improve this assessment I would increase
the difficulty of the questions. I would add a question of what is one way, when we are sick, we can
get better faster? Then the students could provide me with an example of what makes them feel better.
When it comes to my instruction of these lessons on germs the only thing I would do to change the
unit is to provide the students with a pre assessment of the material so I have a better understanding of
where they are before the unit begins. I also would not change the learning activities. The games that
we play during this unit allows the students to have fun while providing them the essential information

Relationships In Pride And Prejudice
Marriage is often thought of as a union between two people; a promise that is supposed to last a life
time. In today s world, reality reigns. Marriage is often broken, or held together due to legality. A
promise does not mean the same as it did in yester year. Despite this ugly truth, young men and
women still dream of the time when they will say I do before their family and friends. However, often
times we as young people get mired in the process of finding a mate, rather than enjoying the
company of others. Whether it is for political or religious reasons, relationships have the potential to

process in her novels. This woman s name is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Elizabeth continually allows for mishaps to happen, even rejecting the incredibly wealthy and
handsome Mr. Darcy. This seems to be Elizabeth s way of showing that she, as a woman, has a form
of power that men cannot take away; the power of saying no. Austen reveals this in chapter 34 when
Darcy declares his love for Elizabeth. How he does it, though, is peculiar. He proclaims his love
boisterously, yet in private with Elizabeth. Darcy tactfully reveals his feelings for her, hoping that she
will be moved and not falter now that they are alone. In vain I have struggled. It will not do. My
feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.
(Austen ch. 34) Here, Darcy vocally forces himself on her, believing that his passion will invoke a

because she does not passionately have feelings for him. She, later, accepts Darcy when she does in
fact have feelings for him. This is an empowering story for the women of Austen s time. Many readers
would ask why Austen would do this. I believe that Austen I empowering young women to stand for

The main issues of this legislation revolve around commerce and federal preemption. From the cases
discussed in lecture and discussion, there are two cases that have a strong, direct correlation to the
cases and many others that have a secondary or weaker correlation to the legislation. Windsor (2012)
has the greatest correlation because of the topic at hand. Windsor challenged the constitutionality of

The Issue Of Academic Dishonesty
Technology is rapidly evolving and changing nowadays. As a result of the increasing availability and
propagation of several forms of technology, academic dishonesty cases in every college and university
have greatly multiplied and become a global issue. The issue on cheating behaviors in students is so
pervasive and uncontrollable that it is almost considered as commonplace (Arhin Jones, 2009).
One of the hardest challenges for educators is knowing how and when to discipline their students. In
the given scenario, there are several issues to take into account; the first and foremost being the issue
of academic dishonesty. Academic dishonesty is defined by the Webster dictionary as the intentional

Discussion of Legal Issues
The first step in handling academic dishonesty issues is to determine if academic dishonesty really
took place. Faucher Caves (2009) describe that academic dishonesty can be classified into three
primary domains including: 1) taking, giving, or receiving information from others; 2) use of
forbidden materials or information; 3) circumventing the process of assessment. In this circumstance,
the student may have committed two of the three domains. If the student used her cellphone to text
another person and asked him/her something about the exam, then she is receiving information from
others, which falls under the first domain. If she used her cellphone to look up for answers on the
internet or retrieve information she might have stored on her cellphone, then she is using forbidden
materials or information, which falls under the second domain. If indeed it is found out that the
student did use her cellphone to cheat on the exam, then disciplinary action must be imposed, but it
must be taken the legal way in order to protect the educator from any legal retaliation. This brings up
two secondary issues related to academic dishonesty which include students right to privacy and
protecting the whistleblower.
In the situation provided, the student was not directly caught cheating, rather, a second party reported

Leadership Is A Contact Sport
Group Summary_Forum10
Introduction
Leadership is a contact sport. As with any sport skills, best practices, and preparation are on constant
display for both teammates and competitors to see. Leaders must hone specific characteristics and
traits that give them the ability to earn the respect of those who would follow. In this paper the traits of
courage, integrity, and growth will be expressed as important concepts in the development and
maintenance of a leader.
Group Consensus
The three topics chosen were all considered important to the group members. With courage and
integrity the two traits tend to go hand in hand. A leader with integrity will gain the trust of his or her
followership while courage will inspire them and lead change. Dees describes the concepts of integrity
and courage an essence of leadership and a unifying factor in all aspects of a leader s life. (Dees,
2013) The third concept of growth and learning express the maintenance a leader must exemplify in
their own personal journey. With growth and learning practices and techniques that provide a strategy
for this maintenance.

they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not

Children s Child Welfare Reform Essay
In 1980, about 500,000 children were in foster care, but a series of successful reforms began with that
year s Adoption Assistance and Child Welfare Act which dramatically decreased the number of
children in foster care. But in the early 1990s, with the advent of crack cocaine and an economic
recession numbers went back up. Child welfare advocates said that the foster care system was in need
of changes so that children spend less time in foster placements and that America s child welfare
system needed an improvement. Some children in care were separated from their siblings, others
transitioned from one foster care placement to another, never knowing where to call home. Too many
children were being abused in systems that were supposed to protect them. Instead of being safely
reunified with their families or moved quickly into adoptive homes many remained in foster homes or
institutions for years.
In 2014, over 650,000 children spent time in the child welfare foster care system. On average, children
remain in state care for nearly two years and seven percent of children in foster care remain in foster
care for five years or more. The majority of children in foster care are very young, the average age of
children in care is around the age of nine. In 2014, more than half of children entering the United
States foster care system were children of color. While most children in foster care reside with family

It initially was reported that one student, Cassie Bernall, was asked by one of the gunmen if she

victim replied, Yes, the shooter walked away. Subsequent investigations determined Harris and
Klebold chose their victims randomly, and the two teens originally had intended to bomb their school,
potentially killing hundreds of people. There was speculation that Harris and Klebold committed the
killings because they were members of a group of social outcasts called the Trenchcoat Mafia that was
fascinated by Goth culture. It also was speculated that Harris and Klebold had carried out the
shootings as retaliation for being bullied. Additionally, violent video games and music were blamed

Much of American Literature written in the 1900 s detail the experiences of race within America,
being that slavery had only recently been abolished. Society in no way viewed African American s as
equal to white American s. At this time, blacks were forced to fight to be viewed as a full person,

attention to the racial tensions in a post Civil War America, by exposing the manipulation of the
endemic racism within our culture, and the effect that it has on the way the African American

  • 2. Effects Of The Crusades On Western Civilizations Stephanie Alfonso April 27,2016 Humanities Consequences of the Crusades The crusades were a series of religious wars that though they took place centuries ago, they are still often discussed today. The crusades were a religious war between the Christian and Muslim states that lasted years. The Byzantine Empire, which had thrived spread over the coastal areas of the Mediterranean...now found itself increasingly challenged by the navies and pirates of Isla. The contest between these two sides were to generate seeds of the first Crusade (Paine 8 9). Some claim that the Crusades offered nothing but a negative impact to western civilization, however, that may not be the case. On the contrary, the Crusades provided a positive short term and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This also cause the split between the Eastern and Western orthodox churches to deepen. Some believe that one of the wars was based on some wanting to impose the authority of the Roman church to the east, though this assumption has never been proven. The great schism divided Christendom into Eastern orthodox churches and Roman catholic churches. The tension between the split of these two types of churches was heightened then heightened by the pope and patriarch by not allowing the Greek and Latin languages in their churches. Both the Byzantine Orthodox church and the Roman catholic church attempted to wipe out divergent practices and beliefs... (Paine 12). There was also tension over which church held more authority. The crusades however did not only have short term consequences, these wars also had a large long term consequences on development of western civilization. Including long term economic benefits, advancements in technology, and a growth in urban culture. One of the long term affects the crusades had on western civilization is the economic benefits. As discussed in one of the previous paragraphs, western Europe benefited economically of the crusades because of trade. This benefits the development of western civilization because it opened the opportunity to have long distance trade. Many of these trades were able to happen because of this accessibility to the Mediterranean allowing them to trade with the far east. Allowing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Nurse Ratched Quotes Oral Script 1. Character Name There are quite a few interpretations of Nurse Ratched s name that could be made, all of which suggest she is an evil, oppressive character. The first is the nickname rat shed given to her by McMurphy. The association of rats with disease suggests that the nurse infects the orderlies and other nurses with her desire for order and control. Rats also carry the connotation that she is a despicable and corrupting character. The interpretation of her name sounding like Ratchet ties into the mechanical imagery associated with her, and shows that she is a part of the combine, and could also suggest that she ratchets patients into conformity. Her name sounding like the word wretched further suggests that she is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This description is rather dehumanising, and makes her sound like a factory produced machine, rather than a person. This firmly associates her with the Combine, and makes the reader think of her in terms of the Combine, rather than as a person in her own right. Size Throughout the novel, Nurse Ratched is referred to as the Big Nurse , and this represents her authority and control over the other patients. Compounding this is the references to the smallness of the other characters, most notably the Chief, who physically is by far the largest character in the novel. It is the Chief s increase in size relative to the nurse which gave him the confidence to secede from the nurse s control and make his own escape from the hospital. 2. Society Nurse Ratched is representative of society itself, or more specifically the oppressive and repressive influence of rules and regulations in society. The Combine that the Chief talks about throughout the novel is essentially this repressive influence, and the Nurse is basically a physical manifestation of the symbolic ... • 4. Reviewing the Necessity of Punishment Essay Reviewing the Necessity of Punishment From On Crimes and Punishment by Cesare Beccaria is an excerpt from On Crimes and Punishment. In his address to the public, particularly those in political positions, Beccaria discusses the way we as a society choose to carry out the law. What he calls useless severity of punishment encompasses his thoughts on extremes such as capital punishment and the cruelties that we allow our government to inflict upon its own people in a failing attempt to bring order to our society. The death penalty has plagued our society for centuries, perhaps beginning with the idea of human sacrifice that has been turned around as a cycle of never ending death and cruelty. The writing techniques employed by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cesare Beccaria is quick to point out the opposing view to his statement, then use it as reinforcement for his own argument. Discussing capital punishment, he clearly states that many countries, if not most, practice this and have done so for centuries. He doesn t give his audience much time to think about that as he quickly calls the history of mankind a vast sea of errors, among which there float a few confused truths, each one far from the next (68). Instead of just referring to the mistakes made in our history, Beccaria calls them a vast sea of errors implying that these mistakes are so tremendous in number and carry such weight with them that they have not been given enough credit for the tragedies they have caused. It is also unclear if Beccaria is insulting his opponent, adding their opinion to this vast sea of errors. In turn, the reader doesn t want their thoughts bunched with these erroneous opinions. The author claims these mistakes are the effect of confused truths. To the reader, confused truths equates fallacy. The diction is presented in an oxy moron fashion that reinforces his statement with delicate language, leaving the audience to question his opponent s view. Adding these complicated, descriptive words, Beccaria reinstates an argument more likely used by his opponent, then slams the statement with vague evidence to make his audience give more thought to his argument than ... • 5. Entitlement And Provision For Early Years Education Unit 4. Assessment Criteria 4.1.1. Summarise entitlement and provision for early years education. There are many different entitlements and provisions established for early years education. Nursery schools, pre schools, and playgroups all provide learning and play activities, family support, early intervention and childcare for all children under the age of five years old. Nursery schools are predominantly attached to a Surestart centre, which work with children and parents providing education for both, full day care provision, parenting advice, and health and family support, or to a primary school. Where as pre schools and playgroups are normally privately owned and operated, offering childcare, play and education activities. Since 2004 all children in the UK aged 3 and 4 years old have been entitled to free places at nurseries and pre school and even under the care of a childminder for up to 12.5 hours per week, this provision was increased to 15 hours per week from 2010.Day nurseries also offer the same provisions for early years education, but are usually run within a business, or by a voluntary group. Free entitlement and provision provides universal access for all to early years education, play activities, and childcare, which are all extremely beneficial to children and their short and long term educational, social, and behavioural development. • 7. Summary Of Love Triangles In The Knight s Tale If you want to end a love triangle, then either make it a line or a square. Courtly love is simply a knight flirting with a nobleman s wife or vice versa. But in this story, it is two men flirting the same person. This obviously destroys the relationship between the two flirtatious competitors, which is what happened in The Knight s Tale . They are prisoners of war, and locked in a tower for eternity. When they see a beautiful woman, they both fall in love, escape, and fight each other for her hand. Palamon and Arcite are locked in a tower in athens by Theseus after surviving a battle. They are fairly close cousins, but when both see a beautiful woman, Emily, in a nearby garden, they immediately fall in love. Since love triangles never work, the cousins are blood thirsty for each other and try to kill each other. They eventually find themselves in an arena ready to fight for the hand of Emily, winner takes all. Each person prays to and gets the help of a certain god. The three main gods in this text are venus, the god of fertility, mars, the god of war, and Diana, the god of chastity. Venus helped Palamon, Mars helped Arcite, and Diana helped Emily. Venus and her temple are significant in this story because she is the goddess of love and sex. This story deals with the different connections of the flirters and the flirted. In this Quote, the Narrator, the knight, is describing the temple of Venus in the arena. First, in the fame of Venus, one might see, Wrought on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. A Dream Of Passion By Euripides Medea And Apollonius s... The character Medea is a well known character throughout Greek culture due to Euripides s Medea and Apollonius s Argonautika. Jules Dassin s A Dream of Passion presents the story of Medea in a modern way, allowing myth and reality to intertwine. Because the film is based on the myth, the two main characters in the film, Maya and Brenda, share many qualities to Medea, such as killing of their children. Common themes, such as the position of women in society, are also presented in both mediums. These similarities show that Euripides and Dassin are conveying the same ideas using different methods. As stated in the paragraph above, Maya has a lot in common with Medea. However, we do not see that until later in the movie. She originally starts off as a character who is very unlike Medea. She does not understand the passion of Medea. Kostas, the director, asks her to repeat Okay. My director, my love. When she does, her love does not come across and this frustrates him. According to Kostas, No love is no passion and no passion is no Medea. At this point, we already see the differences between Maya and Medea. Early in the film, Maya claimed that she would rather go to battle than to give birth to a child. It is evident she wants to focus on acting, hoping to revive her career. She seems to care only about her image; she demands the costume designer to pick out costumes that make her look younger. Furthermore, when suggested that she visit Brenda to better understand Medea, she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Servant Of Allah By Diouf Subsequent to perusing substance of the book Servants of Allah by Diouf, clarifies and gets inside and out of the work of African American and religious history, there is very little thought about the historical backdrop of African American in Islam, however this book talks about the greatest effects that Islam and African American Muslims had on the Americans. Islam was the second Methodism religion brought into the post 1492 Americans. African Muslims were seemed, by all accounts, to be show slaves, yet that was just face of their attributes. They carried custom of resistance and defiance with them. Furthermore, they demonstrated opposing toward their captors frame the start. I trust the greatest effect that African Muslims had on the America were the reality they bring resistance, and that was against the model slaves. Another influence we see today is that of headgears such as du rags and bandanas, the Muslim slave population had a look of turbans and head caps. It is astonishing that America has a trace of Islam in it, something that I would have never guessed. After a while, on the Mayflower, it was an absolute nightmare because the ship started to have a rancid smell, everyone was either starving to death, or dying because of diseases. After ,what seemed like forever, we finally landed on land. We all thanked God for the gift that we survived the dreadful trip, but before we could leave the boat, we all had to sign the Mayflower Compact. I signed it right away so I could get off the boat and follow my master, John Carver. After we got off the boat, we all had to find someplace to settle because we did not know where to go or if there was danger. We all did not stay together because there were two different ... After the war, we went back to our daily lives of farming and building up our colony. Tilley and I had our first kid, Desire. Later that fall, we had a feast with the Pokanoket Indians to give thanks to them and their leader Squanto. After that, Squanto kept gaining more power by turning us against Massasoit, the leader of the Wampanoags, so we would wage war against them. That did not get so far because Squanto died all of a sudden, we think because the Wampanoags, but we are not for sure. That almost caused a war because my colony was angered by the fact that we thought the Wampanoags murdered him. This then led to the Wampanoags raiding our colony and almost killing everyone in it. Then later that year, our leader, William Bradford, died, so that led to a power struggle for about a year. Looking back 10 years ago, when William Bradford died, I thought that I would not survive long in the Americas, but I proved myself wrong. All these values are necessary for me to achieve this goal as I m generally a laid back person and I would not do anything without a little push. Among the many activities to do is the spreading and arranging beds or couches of flowers, or flowers upon the ground or making artificial flowers (Vatsyayana 66). • 21. Female Violence In Caroline Knox s Lizzie Borden Female violence sounds like a patriarchal heresy. In the time of the Lizzie Borden trial, women were expected by society to be seen and not heard, marry a man that their family approved of, and procreate, because that s quite clearly all they are good for. So even the slightest notion that women could ever think of committing a violent crime sent people running for the hills. The Victorian era was a time where intimate female friendships were a normalized commonplace, so the notion that a particular woman could swing a particular weapon at her step mother and father was quite out there. Authors have taken these cultural criterions and used them to create their version of murder mysteries. Caroline Knox is a decorated poet who wrote Lizzie Borden through Art and Literature , which will be the highlight of this synthesis. Knox compares Borden s parricides to historical events that were turning points of their time period. Likening female violence to such events puts a new perspective on the violent act, because it this time, this was unimaginable. The end of the empires was like Borden s crime, because neither were heard of or fathomable. Utilizing the female violence theme really gives an edge that would not be attainable otherwise, simply because it was so scandalous for women to step out of the domestic sphere. Authors express the complexities associated with female violence through comparing Borden s parricides to the fall of empirical forces. The absorption of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Discussion of Legal Issues The first step in handling academic dishonesty issues is to determine if academic dishonesty really took place. Faucher Caves (2009) describe that academic dishonesty can be classified into three primary domains including: 1) taking, giving, or receiving information from others; 2) use of forbidden materials or information; 3) circumventing the process of assessment. In this circumstance, the student may have committed two of the three domains. If the student used her cellphone to text another person and asked him/her something about the exam, then she is receiving information from others, which falls under the first domain. If she used her cellphone to look up for answers on the internet or retrieve information she might have stored on her cellphone, then she is using forbidden materials or information, which falls under the second domain. If indeed it is found out that the student did use her cellphone to cheat on the exam, then disciplinary action must be imposed, but it must be taken the legal way in order to protect the educator from any legal retaliation. But in the early 1990s, with the advent of crack cocaine and an economic recession numbers went back up. Child welfare advocates said that the foster care system was in need of changes so that children spend less time in foster placements and that America s child welfare system needed an improvement. Some children in care were separated from their siblings, others transitioned from one foster care placement to another, never knowing where to call home.
