Verbal And Non-Verbal Communication
Communication is sending and receiving information between two or more people. The person
sending the message is referred to as the sender, while the person receiving the information is called
the receiver. The information conveyed can include facts, ideas, concepts, opinions, beliefs,
attitudes, instructions and even emotions. Communicationin its most basic sense is transferring
information from sender to receiver. Communicating is the act of conveying information for the
purpose of creating a shared understanding.

Verbal and Non Verbal Communication
Communication can be either verbal or non verbal. Verbal commutation can be defined as
information being communicated through speaking or a physical encounter while non verbal
communication has been defined as communicating without words. It includes apparent behaviours
such as facial expressions, eyes, touching, and tones of voice, as well as less obvious messages
such as dress, posture and spatial distance between two or more people.
Verbal communication encompasses any form of communication involving words, spoken, written
or signed. The conversation we have with our coworker at lunch, the morning news or the sports

Arguments For The Treaty Of Versailles
The reparations outlined in the Treaty of Versailles sparked an outrage because many thought
that it was unfair to not directly state the amount of reparations that were going to be paid. That
is a valid argument, but most people were not aware of what kind of state Germany was in even
after the war. Margaret Macmillan brings up a huge point in saying that after the war, Germany
was also potentially very powerful. Its infrastructure was largely untouched by the war; it had a
large and educated population; and, even without Austria, it was the biggest country in Europe
west of the new Soviet Russia (Pg.3). Even though it was not directly stated how much in
reparations they were going to pay, Germany was capable of paying it off. For many other
countries, the amount of $33 billion would take possibly up to a century to pay off, and it only
took Germany a generation. Like Macmillan said, Germany had the infrastructure to keep their
economy strong and the smarts to pay off that massive amount of debt with ease. Even though it
was unfair... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet, when looking at the treaty in depth, you see that not all of it was totally unreasonable. Inside
the Treaty of Versailles, it states that Germany will not be allowed to join the League of Nations.
The League was a group formed after the first World War and meant to be a group of countries
coming together to make up a national peace group, just like the United Nations. Even though the
League was an utter failure, Germany should not have been allowed to join it. The rule was set
for all instigators in the war, that they would not be a part of the League at that moment. Not
many people argue the fact that Germany was not allowed in the League of Nations, because they
helped start a World War. Germany did not disagree with this term because they understood why
they were not allowed to join the League. This term was fair because Germany was excluded due to

College Students and Depression
College Students and Depression
College students face many adversities as they transcend their collegiate careers. Depression is a
major factor that haunts students since the first day they walk into their first lecture. It is extremely
alarming that in 2009, the American College Health Association found that 9.2 percent of college
students at all types of institutions reported being diagnosed with depression, and 9.4 percent with
anxiety (Fogg. B14 B15). However, most researchers believe that this statistical percentage is
much higher. What exactly is depression? Depression in terms of psychology is, a sign of
psychiatric disorder or a component of various psychoses, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Also, the Stafford loans are not enough to support a person during college. The paper work and
terminology in acquiring these loans is also tremendously difficult and puts a strain on the student
who has to do this every year. It is extremely stressful on knowing whether or not you are going to
be able to attend college next semester and can plague the student through the rest of their
collegiate experience. For example Amy began to notice depression setting in because of her
student loans. It was probably during sophomore year when I got a notice from FAFSA that my
financial aid did not go through. I had no money, and I needed to live at campus. It was stressful,
but I got it worked out after a couple of weeks, but it was pretty much down hill from there. The
stress just kept piling up with all the schoolwork, plus I missed my family. The only thing that
made me feel ever the slightest bit better was partying and drinking and going home for weekend.
(Collins). This shows that debt can be the instigating force that pushes toward other depression
inducing factors such as alcohol. As more and more students enroll in college and seek money, the
higher the risk for depression. The affect of depression on college students is extremely harmful in
the progression of education. The factors of depression can contribute to the progression of
depression well past the collegiate years. The one aspect that has the greatest effect of prolonging

Essay The Pagan Faith and Christian Holidays
Since man first had conscious thought, he has sought the answers to life affirming questions.
How was life created? Who created this world? What lies after death? What is the meaning of
life? Time has created many answers to these questions. Many of these answers are lost in time,
along with the peoples who believed them. As archaeologists search the past for a better history of
the planet, old questions are answered and new questions asked. There are also ideas that have only
been transformed through history, reshaped by society.
There are common themes in the answers to those questions. When they are combined, believed and
ritualized, they become religions. The polytheists of ancient civilizations worshipped the ... Show

Christianity began in what was the Roman Empire. Largely ignored by the masses, it was a
small monotheistic cult in a polytheistic society. The simplicity of it quickly attracted converts
(Veyne 525). Where once they only had Roman idols, a new one was added, that of Jesus Christ.
It is not to say that they simply quit believing in the Gods and Goddesses that had safeguarded
their crops, homes and families, only that this God offering salvation was added (Veyne 545).
Popular society saw a world under control of demons, and to ensure their safety they worshiped a
variety of Gods and Goddesses (Veyne 396). As the cult spread, new beliefs were added. These
include the forgiveness of sin, the resurrection of Jesus, the belief in one God (Noss 636).
The rapid growth of Christianity caused alarm in many people. Between 195 and 212, Christians
were sporadically persecuted. After 212, persecution slowed, and they were allowed to exist (Frend
294). A major force in the popularization of Christianity was when Constantine converted.
Constantine, a late Roman Emperor, discontinued the policy outlawing Christianity, and made it an
acceptable religion in the Roman Empire (Frend 294). Christianity spread when the clergy
canonized saints, building temples and altering rituals to match those in the Roman Empire.
Marriages also brought Christianity new followers. It was often the women of the house that led

Ozymandias and the Grecian Urn Paper
Even though Ozymandias by Percy Shelley and Ode to a Grecian Urn by John Keats sound like
very different types of poems, they still share some of the same characteristics. In Ozymandias,
Shelley tells a story of how a man found a ancient statue of a king, with the words My name is
Ozymandias, King of Kings,/ Look on my Works, ye Might, and despair! The statue was broken
into pieces, and the land was bare, with nothing to look on (11). In Ode to a Grecian Urn, Keats is
speaking to an ancient urn and describing the unchanging pictures that are on it. These poems are
very different in how their objects interact with the passing of time and in the feelings that they
invoke in the reader, but very similar in the romantic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The poem gives the reader a feeling of loneliness and emptiness by using lines like The lone and
level sands and boundless and bare (14, 13). In Ode to a Grecian Urn , the connotations of the
words that Keats uses are completely opposite. Keats even describes the urn as being able to tell
A flowery tale more sweetly than [their] rhyme (4). Keats then goes on to state that the melodies
unheard/ Are sweeter; therefore, ye soft pipes, play on (11 12). These lines are so light and
pretty especially compared to the harshness of Shelley s poem. Keats describes the beautiful
pictures on the urn throughout the rest of the poem, even making a sacrifice sound peaceful.
Even though the way the poems objects interact with the passing of time and the feelings the
poems invoke in the reader differ greatly, the romantic characteristics that both poems symbolize
are very similar. Ironically, the opposite parallels of the two poems have a way of representing a
romantic mindset. For example, the romantics believed that nature is supposed to teach. In
Ozymandias , nature destroys a statue and a town that had arisen from greed and the abuse of
power. The king is stated to have a sneer of cold command and a heart that fed his own desires
(4,8). The trunkless legs of stone and a shattered visage makes it sound like nature was not very
happy with the king s show of authority (2, 4). In Ode

Evolution Of Gender Roles In The 1920 s
Equality between men and women is more than a matter of social justice .gender roles is a way of
characterizing and labeling other in society. Gender roles include attitudes, actions, and personality
traits associated with a gender within that culture. Gender roles determines over all how men and
women should act, speak, dress, and think. Genderdefines masculine and feminine roles on society.
Social influence parents, teachers, peers, movies, television, music, books, and religion teach and

has been portrait to be a week woman in need of salvation. Fairy tales continue to imply women to
be dependent on men, like a princess on a prince. Princesses are put on hyper sexualized royal
attire, then again to reinforce the idea of the female role and their physical modifications to please
men. Little girls are given the idea of becoming a princess like Cinderella. They fantasize about
wearing a ball gown and being swept off their feet. Even the strongest female characters in the
role plays are most to be saved by a man with wealth and over power. Cinderella is setting a
standard for women and limiting female gender roles to full exploration of their femininity.
Typically the placement of the female role is perceived as being weaker, smaller and more
fragile. Culturally, they are set as being passive and domesticated, all oriented towards
submission and weakness. In the story Cinderella is slaved and abused by her step mother and
sisters. It is always a competition between the step sisters to be the most beautiful one for the
prince. In the dominant narrative by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, they explain the role that
Cinderella was given and she was miserable. Looking for an escape her godmother beautifies her.
Giving her that perfect look to get the prince s approval. Cinderella had to leave the ball before

Death Of The Mountain
Kobolds swarmed over the hill as Skrune fled for his life. He ran until his legs just about gave
out. Gasping for air, he ducked behind a man sized mushroom, hiding from the creatures, only a
stone s throw away. Luckily, he stood downwind. He wrinkled his nose as a breeze, carrying the
stench of the creatures, blew passed him. Well, maybe not so lucky. He spotted at least thirty of the
creatures, but didn t doubt that there were more creeping around.
A kobold bent down and sniffed the ground with its muzzle, seemingly fascinated in a spot that
Skrune had stepped. The creature moved closer to his hiding spot, its nostrils flaring. They hunted
by smell, and Skrune hoped the pungent aroma of the mushroom obscured his scent.

The energy felt good as it flowed down his arms. The three foot tall creature landed in a pile of
leaves, its spindly limbs spasming and its reptile like head skewed to one side. Another leaped
from a tree but reeled, taking an energy ball to the stomach. The kobold s scaled skin reminded
Skrune of a rat s tail.
Another one landed on Skrune s back, but he flipped it off. They were everywhere! Cut off from his
comrades with his powers waning, Skrune was desperate and running. Normally, he d have no
problems taking them out, even without his powers, but their numbers were overwhelming him.
As he picked up the pace, Skrune tried to create an energy shield around his body. Gone again!
He pulled his last grenade out of his pocket and clutched it. With a shake of his head, he put it
back. Things were not desperate, yet. It may be needed as a last resort.
A little help would be nice, he muttered to himself.
Where on Earth could his teammates be? He looked down at a small, watch computer hanging
from his wrist. Its cracked face bore kobold teeth marks.
The computer sparked. Someone spent hours creating this amazing piece of technology. He
grimaced when it sparked again. They were able to utilize the technological age to their benefit,
obtaining knowledge from the multiple dimensions they visited. But oh, boy, did it suck when it
failed. Skrune needed to get away and find help, but how could he contact his teammates?

Masculinity In Macbeth Throughout The Play
In the beginning of the play, Macbeth has a different view of being masculine then Lady Macbeth.
Readers can see that in the beginning of the play Macbeth has some morals and strength as a man
when he says, Macbeth at this point is saying that a real man would not murder for power, they
earn the power. Lady Macbethchanges his idea of masculinity when she keeps telling Macbeth
what kind of man he has to be, and she accuses Macbeth of not adhering to the typical male
stereotype that he should want to be. Lady Macbeth throughout the play teases and provokes her
husband. Lady Macbeth does this knowing that once she pushes hard enough, Macbeth will break
and will be desperate to prove his manhood by doing whatever Lady Macbeth wants. To get

Social Change Essay
In my lifetime time, I have seen many social changes. The invention of the internet, the change in
views on race, religion and the institution of marriage and many other changes too numerous to
mention. There are three important processes that facilitate these changes, cultural processes
(invention, discovery, and diffusion), social conflict, ideas, and demographic patterns. Along with
social change, modernity has allowed our society to change. Modern societies are different from
traditional societies and by looking at the theories of Tönnies, Durkheim, Weber, and Marx. we
see some defining traits of modernity. Without social change our society would stagnate. Social

In industrial capitalist societies, he maintained, the struggle between capitalists and workers
pushes society toward a socialist system of production. Marx vision about social conflict
arising from inequality has proven to be correct and that it does create changes in every society.
Without ideas, and men with dreams, there would be no innovation and little social change. Max
Weber believed that most social change came from ideas. For example, it takes just one man
with a charismatic message to inspire and change the world. Weber (1958, orig. 1904 l905) also
high lighted the importance of ideas by revealing how the religious beliefs of early Protestants
set the stage for the spread of industrial capitalism. Ideas unite people in a common goal allowing
social change to take place, such as creating a new neighborhood watch program or protesting
wall street for more income equality. As populations grow and change, demographic patterns play
a part in social change. Some patterns include change in household size, women having fewer
children, the age of the population, and the migration from one place to another. In America,
households have been shrinking over the last century and family size is about half of what it
used to be. Also, women are deciding to have fewer children, and more people are living alone.
Our population is steadily growing older by the year 2035, seniors will account for 20 percent of

Dna Report Missing Person
With the use of DNA Analysis, we can find the correct identification of the missing person by
narrowing the information down to a single individual. For DNA analysis, we first had to obtain
samples from both the skeletal remains (SKE2/SKE1) and samples from the two missing persons
whom we narrowed down to (MP1/MP2). We then added the DNAto four test tubes with two
different restriction enzymes to cut segments at certain patterns it recognized. We initially used two
different restriction enzymes because there could be a slight possibility that if only one was used,
the two missing persons DNA results after inserted into the gel electrophoresis chamber could show
up the same. This would result in having the same amount of fragments as well as

Pros And Cons Of Internet Censorship
From September 29, 2007 to October 4, 2007 the country of Myanmar shut off all internet
connections to the outside world following a harsh government reaction to protest were 200
protestors were killed (Subramanian, 2011). In January 2011 Egypt disconnected all internet traffic
into and out of the country in response to anti government protest (Subramanian, 2011).
In the western democratic regions internet censorship is not as heavy as in the east and muslim
nations (Greengard, 2010). However, research shows that France, Poland, and Germany have all
turned to internet censorship to ban sites that have support Nazi causes (Greengard, 2010). In 1996
and 1998 the United States passed laws, Communications Decency Act and Child Online Protection
Act to make way for internet censorship (Subramanian, 2011). The United State Supreme Court
overturned both laws as being unconstitutional (Subramanian, 2011). Financial pressure was used in
the Wikileaks case, when the United States government threatened to prosecute any financial
institutions handling donations and service providers who sold related merchandise (Murdoch
Roberts, 2013). India has required Gmail, Blackberry, and Skype to provide their encryption keys
to the government following terrorist attacks in Mumbai (Eko, Kumar, Yao, 2011). Further, India
has required Google to take down content that the government found to be objectional (Eko et al,

The Job Of Her Dreams
Karen is 23. She finished college last year and landed the job of her dreams in graphic arts. The
work is creative and challenging. Karen is pretty and has many friends so she is frequently
included in the party circuit at work. She should be happy and excited. After all, her life is
beginning just as she carefully planned it. But instead, she feels dead and dull inside. She keeps up
with her job, but it doesn t bring the joy she thought it would. She feels distant from its
satisfactions. She doesn t feel as creative as she once was, and doesn t understand the dull distant
sorrowing she feels despite her accomplishments.
Karen had an abortion in college. She thought she had a serious committed relationship with her
boyfriend, but when she told him she was pregnant he was definitely less than happy about it. He
told her the decision was up to her, but if she wanted an abortion, he would pay for it. She sensed
his lack of commitment to her and his baby and decided on abortion. Two of her roommates had
abortions and they seemed fine afterwards. What s wrong with her that she feels so depressed

women in the United States have had one or more abortions. These were women who were

The Signs Of Addiction And Addiction
Families can do different things that can help with addiction. According to Alcohol and Drug
Abuse Affects Everyone in the Family (2015), families can learn the facts about drugs and
addiction so they can know what to expect. The family needs to make sure they get help for
themselves other than getting help for the addicted person, but also learn what they can do to help
the addicted family member. They would maybe need to get a family intervention and always
look for a long term recovery. The family can also look for the signs of addictionto try and prevent
addiction. According to There s Help for you or your Loved One with Opioid Dependence

relieve pain or to get high, feeling physical or mental withdrawal after they stop using a drug,
unsuccessful attempts to cut back on use of a drug, and a great deal of time spent trying to get
more drugs. According to The Set up Living with Addiction (n.d.), they believe that people
dealing with anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression or other mental illnesses use drugs and
alcohol to ease their suffering. They also say when people see family members or friends using
drugs they feel like they can too. Another reason is people become bored and think drugs will

Of Mice And Men Movie And Book Comparison
John Steinbeck s Of Mice and Men shows the struggle of human loneliness and pursuing dreams
and freedom. It is fueled by fear of past failure and be labeled as outcasts or fear of what defines
them.
In the book it is the same concept. The character in the book were as believable in the book as
they were in the movie, and quite frankly the exact same as I pictured so I give the author props
for that. The actors portrayed the novel s characters to a tee and when I saw them it was like I had

The main antagonists that viewers could clearly point out would be Curley, Curley s Wife, fear
of being alone, and fear of unaccomplished dreams. Also a minor character in the story that played
a big role was Carlson. He shot Candy s dog which was a foreshadowing of what was to come.
That same pistol shot Lennie. It was an important event that Carlson shot the dog because when
he is done he cleans the gun which shows that when George and Lennie watch they will know
where to find it also. Carlson also mentions that he will shoot the dog in the back of the head and
that it is a humane way of killing the dog and it won t even quiver . George remembers this when
he has to shoot Lennie and what a coincidence he shot him in the back of the head. Carlson is more
important than you think.
A character that dramatically was different in the movie than in my imagination when we read
the book was Lennie. He was portrayed by John Malkovich and I wouldn t have chosen him
because he was way older than I would have imagined Lennie. The change in that wouldn t have
been a big controversy at all and it wasn t a big change either and I believe it would be argued a
good or bad decision either. All in all the movie was a good movie. They did not have many
changes to the plot or viewer s perception of the characters. The novel and book also go hand in
hand in the symbolism and theme of the novel. I believe John Steinbeck hit the nail on the head
with this book and Gary Sinise did good on following up and making a great

Summary Of Interactive Data Visualization By Charles...
In his essay, The Re Emergence of Emotional Appeals in Interactive Data Visualization , Charles
Kostelnick compares printed data to language by noting media s limited ability to stimulate thought
and send a relatable message. Kostelnick states these two modes of messaging can evoke empathy
or fear in an audience, but for what purpose? As his essay unfolds, he makes it clear that messaging
must be multi faceted implementing color, interactive elements and animations to truly evoke a
substantial response in the viewer. This dissection seems to parallel many elements and stylistic
approaches film uses to captivate its audiences. Perhaps Kostelnick is right viral ad campaigns

Here I found parallels between his depiction of language s ability to evoke and express emotion
and the limitations that coincide with printed data expression. Kostelnick posits that if one can
connect one s audience to data in a tactile, immediate way, their emotional response will bring
about engagement and interest. Data then, like language, must collaborate with color, imagery,
and the viewer s ability to directly relate and feel empathy. Otherwise, printed data alone as with
language alone simply cannot accomplish the same level of human connection. In sum, to be
effective the message needs movement, color, and human influence. The viewer must feel that
they are an active part in the data in order to feel most connected to it. Similarly, this is the case
in the viral video messaging and film of today s world. Kostelnick may not have mentioned film in
his essay, but he doesn t have to directly say it to point out to us just how we can make data
consumption a more engaging, empathy inspired action by pulling from the ways of

The Theme Of War By Edwin Starr, And Happy Christmas
War, a brutal, barbaric and animalistic concept that contradicts the essence of being human. War by

war, I despise cause it means destruction of innocent lives, war means tears to thousands of
mother s eyes. When their sons go to fight, and lose their lives. It is evident that the lyrical terms
formulates imagery, further empowering the message. In Happy Christmas, juxtaposition has
been implemented to foreshadow the bright future if war is eradicated. A very merry Christmas,
and a happy new year, let s hope it s a good one without any fear. The audience is able to
empathise with both of these songs, war means tears to thousands of mother s eyes. This line
resonates with people young and old, mothers are considered the backbone, and always guiding
their children to a bright path. Someone who gave them life and should always be internally
grateful for. Thus, the complete contrast of the message in the song Happy Christmas,

Grief Scenarios
Introduction.
The question for this reflective journal was to demonstrate how I would assist a patient that has
gone through a traumatic event. Therefore, I have decided to create a scenario to practically show
the steps I would take during each stage of grief.
Scenario
Erin Reuben is a 26 year old female that just finished her degree in teaching. She is a newlywed
and on her honeymoon, she and her husband went horseback riding. She fell off the horse and the
horse stepped on her right leg. The trauma was so severe that they could not save the leg and that
she was amputated roughly 10cm above the knee.
Treatment.
It is important to remember that a person that went through a traumatic experience is not in the
same state of mind as a regular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Seeing and hearing that she is still able to achieve great things could motivate her to push forward
and give her the drive to live her life.
Acceptance
This is the final stage of grief. This is when the patient starts to make peace with what happened to
them and they start to move on. Common phrases used are: There is nothing I can do about it so I
might as well make the best of it.
Erin will start to grow accustomed to her life as an amputee. She will start getting into a routine
and become more and more independent. She will still have various struggles in her day to day life
but she would have worked through the traumatic event.
When a patient reaches this stage, it does not mean that their treatment is over. You must always be
available to listen to any problems that the patient needs to discuss. Try to keep an eye on their
emotion and psychological state.
A patient can easily slip back into depression and therefore we as practitioners need to constantly be
vigilant to identify any problems or needs and try to help a patient through

Necropsy Studies
Use of necropsy examination as a diagnostic aid to detect bTB Gross PM examination at
slaughter houses as well as cattle with suspected clinical manifestations of bTB and died can be
used for diagnosis. At necropsy, a tentative diagnosis of bTB can be made by the detection of
macroscopic lesions typical of bTB (Ameni et al., 2008).The sensitivity of gross PM examination is
affected by the anatomical sites examined and the method practiced (Ameni et al., 2008). Careful
examination of LNs (mandibular, medial retropharyngeal, cranial and caudal mediastinal, left and
right bronchial, hepatic and mesenteric LNs) and the lungs can result in 95 % of cattle with
macroscopic lesions being identified (Ameni et al., 2008). Further, histo pathological examination
of the lesions may increase the confidence of the diagnosis. The most commonly observed
microscopic lesions are characterized by a central necrosis with mineralization surrounded by
granulomatous inflammatory response (Ameni et al., 2007). 3.1.2 Bacteriological culture... Show

Laboratory confirmation of bTB is based on the observation of typical M. bovis colonies and
morphology on primary isolation media after incubating at 37 В°C for four to six weeks followed
by species identification by PCR. On a suitable pyruvate based solid medium, colonies of M. bovis
are smooth and off white (buff) in color. The organism grows slowly at 37В°C, but does not grow
at 22В°C or 45В°C. M. bovis is sensitive to thiophen 2 carboxylic acid hydrazide (TCH) and to
isonicotinic acid hydrazide (INH). This can be tested for by growth on 7H10/ 7H11 Middle brook

The Sweetheart Of Song Tra Bong Analysis
Imagine what would happen if a soldier invited someone to a war zone to be with them. One of
the most notable chapters in Tim O Brien s book The Things They Carried is The Sweetheart of
Song Tra Bong which is about a soldier bringing his girlfriend to Vietnam. In this chapter, the
story is told by Rat Kiley who has a reputation for exaggeration and overstatement. The story starts
out with a few soldiers jokingly throwing around the idea of getting girls into their camp.
However, after thinking about it, one of them, named Mark Fossie, decides to fly in his girlfriend.
He eventually did and he and her hung out together and had a good time. His girlfriend, Mary Anne
Bell, was very curious about war and weapons and things of that nature.... Show more content on

One example is that he brings up the color green many times during this chapter. In most of these
color references he is referring to Vietnam. Eventually, her eyes seemed to shine in the dark not
blue, though, but a bright jungle green. What the author was trying to say was that Mary
became one with the cruel, unforgiving land. This occurred when her transformation was
complete and she had turned from a nice, young girl into a cold, killing machine. Secondly, to
help give the reader an image of how much she had changed, O Brien includes some really
disturbing imagery. Such as when Mark finds her in the Green Berets bunker, she was wearing a
necklace of human tongues. Elongated and narrow, like pieces of blackened leather, the
tongues were threaded along a length of copper wire, one overlapping the next, the tips curled
upward as if caught in a final shrill syllable. This is important because it gives the reader a vivid
details in order for them to make a clear mental image of how messed up this girl has become and
how the land/war has completely taken over who she was before she visited. Finally, her
transformation was symbolic of the one happening to not only the soldiers, but also to the families
and people of America. This war was changing people, making the soldiers into different people
and affecting the lives of the family members who are worried and/or grief

President Andrew Jackson
In regards to the overall effect a single president has had in the course of US history, President
Andrew Jackson should be taken into consideration. Though his morals and personality have long
been critiqued and scrutinized, Jackson s presidency had an indisputable effect upon the power of
the president as an individual. Jackson s profound influence upon the office of presidency was
exemplified within his fiscal, social, and political interventions in American politics during the mid
nineteenth century.
President Andrew Jackson changed the office of presidency through his continuous actions, which
served to diminish the power of the federal government thus increasing both his political and
economic agendas. The economic policies Jackson enacted demonstrated his distrust of both large
government and Northeastern power brokers. Due to his hatred for big government, Jackson
detested the Bank of the United States. Jackson ensured that the Second Bank of the United States
(BUS) failed by vetoing Congress s attempt to recharter it in ..... In addition Jackson also secured
its decrepit state by withdrawing federal funds from the bank, which he later would deposit in his
pet banks. Although his hatred for the bank invoked controversy there were many that shared his
economic beliefs. In Doc 4 this is exemplified as Jackson is portrayed is the hero slaying the hydra
headed monster. The portrayal of the Bank of the United States as a mythological monster
reinforces the notion that

What Does Morality Mean To Me Research Paper
Morality for me, is the attempt of a person to distinguish what is good and what is bad. Morality is
the capacity of decision making a person does, for example, when a person finds a $100 bill on the
floor on the way home, does he take it? Does he turn it in? or does he wait for a while and see if
someone looks for it? These are just choices depending on the person if what decision he feels
right for him to do. Moralityis based on a person s feelings, intentions, and actions based on what
is proper and improper. Same goes for our everyday lives, we base it all on our morality to know
what is right from wrong. Morality is the foundation of ethics; Morality is differentiating what is
right from wrong, while Ethics is a branch of Philosophystudying how morality affects the acts
ethically, if what he does is consistently moral or good, ethical in a sense that you know that
decision making of a person. Morality condemns bad or improper actions such as rape, murder,
theft, hostage taking etc. However, morality also depends on culture since we have different
cultures, in our religion (Islam) it is moral for a man to have 4 wives as long as he can sustain all
4 along with the children, while in other cultures it is very immoral.... Show more content on

There is no definite answer to whether morality is subjective or objective but it would be more
accurate to base moral actions objectively. The argument murder is bad is an objective truth
because it does not need personal feelings to determine whether it is right or wrong because
universally it is an immoral thing to do. However, we should still consider some cultures which
do not recognize some facts as true, such as my recent example on having 4 wives. In Christian
belief, there is a sin called the original sin, in which all Christians inherited from their first parents,
so if someone makes a decision subjectively there is already a sign of immorality due to the original

themselves can be quite unhelpful. Compared with women, they tend to be far more concerned
with being competitive, powerful and successful. Most men don t like to admit that they feel
fragile or vulnerable, and so are less likely to talk about their feelings with their friends, loved
ones or their doctors. This may be the reason that they often don t ask for help when they
become depressed. Men tend to feel that they should rely only on themselves and that it is
somehow weak to have to depend on someone else, even for a short time. This traditional view of
how men should be always tough and self reliant. Some men find that owning up to their
depression actually results in their partner rejecting them because of this. Even professionals
sometimes share this view, and may not diagnose depression in men when they should. Instead of
talking about how they feel, men may try to make themselves feel better by using alcohol or drugs.
This will usually make things worse in the long run. Their work will suffer and alcohol often leads

HAITI : A GOVERNMENT OF THIEVES PRESIDENT WANTS POLICE BRASS FIRED!
Haitian President Jovenel Moise, a political novice sought to sag 14 high officials of the Haitian
Police Department. This news comes on the hill of an attack on the President s motorcade in the
north side of Haiti a few days ago where the people threw rocks at the president s motorcade a la
Maduro. The chief of the police, Mr. Michel Ange Gedeon was summoned to the Haitian National
Palace in Port au Prince accompanied by two aides. Mr. Gedeon was received by President Moise
flanked by Wilson Laleau and Ardouin Zephirin, two of his senior advisors. The Chief of the
Police was presented with a list of people the president demanded that he fire immediately, or else
he would ask the Haitian Senate to terminate him. The president reportedly told the chief: I control
the majority of the Senate and I will see to it that you are gone pronto.
This political faux pas by Jovenel Moise has raised eyes brows among international observers

members sought clarification from the President. Not since the fall of the Duvaliers that ... Show

“Evaluate the Claim That Religious Language Is...
In the debate about religious language, it is important that broadly speaking, there are two types of
language, cognitive and non cognitive. Cognitive language conveys facts i.e. things that we can
know or be cognisant of. Non cognitive language conveys information that is not factual; feelings
and emotional claims. Those who believe that religious language is non cognitive and so
meaningless stem their beliefs from the Logical Positivist. The Logical Positivists were a group of
philosophers who were primarily concerned with the truth contained in statements we can make, or
in other words, with what can be logically posited, or stated. The group began in Vienna, Austria in

Brian Davies further argued that the verificationism principle itself is unverifiable; one cannot
verify whether it is true or false and therefore by its own criteria, it is meaningless. Both Ward
and Davies s arguments significantly weaken verificationism. Hick argued that statements are
eschatologically verifiable, so that after someone dies, they can verify all the statements they
made when they were alive, however this is a weak argument against verificationism, and it
does not weaken the verification principle as much as Hick and Davies. One other philosopher
who was influenced by the Logical Positivists (alongside Karl Popper) was Anthony Flew. Flew
believed that when you assert something, you are also asserting (whether you like it or not) that
there are facts/evidence that may count against your assertion. His Falsification principle
proposed that a statement was meaningless if no sense experience could count against it; a
statement is meaningful if it is known what empirical evidence could count against it. Flew uses
the parable of the gardener to illustrate his point; Two explorers return to come across a garden in
which had grown flowers and weeds. Even though there are some areas which are overgrown,
there are certain areas that appear to be tended to. One argues that there is a gardener on account of

To start with, I must affirm you that throughout the course all the topics were essential to me and
has helped me improve my skill on human ethics. However, as it is suggested let me focus on the
four concepts that were very essential to me. First, ethics and values are very necessary in the
human life both personally and professionally. When serving my clients at work and contributing to

with my house of values I succeeded to encourage the distinctive characteristics of human

The Electronic Communication Privacy Act, 1986
The Electronic Communication Privacy Act,1986
The Electronic Communication Privacy Act,1986 was initially n amendment of the Omnibus
Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 (Title III) which was also referred to as Wiretap Statute.
This was an act that was intended to stop government illegal access to the private electronic
communications. With the emergence of other means of electronic communication like the internet,
there was a growing tendency of the government agencies to sneak into the information channels of
citizens without their permission. This was due to the fact that the 1968 Act did not cover the
electronic mails that were en route to their final destination. The courts till 2005 declared that this
type of communication was not covered by the 1986 Act. It was until then that the US Court of
Appeal reversed the ruling that has been barring the e mails from being covered under the privacy
provision. The above scenario that the ECPA had to be amended with the argument that all
electronic communication has to be temporarily stored at some given point in time and the
argument that there was no any illegality in any interception before the communication reaches the
destination was null and void. The Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA) therefore gives
the clear guidelines to the access, use, interception, disclosure as well as privacy protection of the
electronic communication. This Act covers electronic communication as well as various forms of

Baroque Art And The Baroque Era
Baroque Ornamentation
The use of ornamentation in Baroque music was a creative, and sometimes improvised outlet for
period musicians that spurred from human instinct to manipulate melodic material. This urge to
change melodic material by altering the rhythm, or melody can be seen throughout history. Music
including Gregorian chant, which predates the Baroque era, contains some elements of
ornamentation. It can be seen throughout the Baroque, Classical era, and even in modern music.
Although improvisation has been repressed by modern conventions of performance, it shows itself
in the style of improvised jazz and avant garde free improvisation. Performers use improvisation as
a means of self expression and a way to express composer intent. During the Baroque era, there were
many different styles and methods of ornamentation depending on location, style, date, and
composer of a piece of music. Understanding the historical developments of the Baroque era and the
development of ornamentation can help modern performers of Baroque music better understand
how to play a more historically accurate performance. The Baroque era lasted from about 1600 to
1750. The music from the Baroque began to develop contrapuntally and in harmonic complexity.
Composers also relied on the performers ability to add ornamentation and to complete the
harmonies in a basso continue score through improvisation. These scores consisted of a bass line
with numbers and symbols written above, to indicate the

the firm would create an opponent for GAFCEL with the help of this strategy. Moreover, the
coated products Sealed Air produce corresponding to GAFCEL s uncoated bubbles can be sold for
a lower price because of the fact that the firm makes at least 50% profit for all kind of coated
bubbles according to Table D. Since the profit margin is very high, the firm would sacrifice some
part of it and can both increase distributors earnings as well as decrease the product sale price.
Moreover, Sealed Air should put aside some budget for advertisements to support brand image. It
should differentiate itself from contenders while focusing on its products strength and quality.
Moreover, they should expand their product line to meet all kind of customers need.
5. Given your plan, what will be the impact on Sealed Air s business model?
Thanks to those implementations, Sealed Air could maintain its market leadership without harming
the brand image. Besides, lowering sale prices would make the firm gain price conscious
customers as well as increasing the distributor s profit margin would improve the firm and
distributors relationship. If it is possible, the firm would distribute Astro s uncoated bubble
products to abroad that Sealed Air would dominate European packaging market mostly served for

Why would John Brown be considered a revolutionary if he did so many bad things to try to end
slavery? John Brown was an abolitionist during the 1800 s. The reason why John Brown became

Descartes Meditations Of First Philosophy
Christopher Joao
Philosophy 201
Mr. Jurkiewicz
4 March 2016 Descartes Meditation #2
Rene Descartes was a French philosopher born in 1596. He is considered by many the father of
modern philosophy and continues to have tremendous influence in the philosophical world to this
day. The book, Meditations of First Philosophy, consist of six meditations and describes one
meditation per day for six days. In meditation two, he claims that we have better knowledge of our
own minds than of the physical world. This proclamation has sparked debates between countless
philosophers for centuries.
In meditation two, Descartes wax argument is an observation and an essential part of how he
develops his theory of the mind and body being separate from each other. It begins by Descartes
taking a piece of fresh wax and describing it. He describes the wax through his sensory perception
of it. He describes the faint taste of honey, the smell of flowers, the yellow coloring, the cool to
the touch, and the sound it makes when it is tapped. He takes all of these sensory perceptions
and understands it to be a piece of wax. He then melts the wax. When the wax melted it
eliminated all of the qualities he perceived it to have through his senses. When the wax melted the
taste was gone, the smell and color were gone. It no longer made a sound when touched and it was
now hot instead of cool. The wax was no longer the same. It was now different.
Even though the wax does not look the same as it

Polio Is An Incapacitating And Potentially Fatal...
What is Polio? Poliomyelitis, commonly referred to as Polio, is an incapacitating and potentially
fatal, infectious virus. Although it is rare to see someone suffering from the disease, in some
countries, such as Nigeria, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, the virus still exists. (Kids Health 1)
Before the first vaccine was created, Polio was a threat to all Americans across the nation. The
dangerous virus attacked people from all age ranges and left permanent damage on all of its
victims. Luckily, at the peak of its devastation, a man named Jonas Salk created a vaccine against
this catastrophic virus. This vaccine not only marked the downfall of Polio in the United States, but
in a majority of nations throughout the world as well.
Poliovirus first enters the human body through the mouth. Next, the virus resides in either the
person s throat or intestines. For the virus to spread, it would have to be transmitted via feces and
/or by the droplets of an infected individual. (Kids Health 1) Only human beings can be affected by
the poliovirus. (Centers for Disease and Control and Prevention 2)
Signs and symptoms of Poliomyelitis include: fever, sore throat, headache, vomiting, fatigue, back
pain or stiffness, neck pain or stiffness, pain or stiffness in the arms or legs, muscle weakness or
tenderness, and meningitis. (Mayo Clinic 2) But, even if an individual does not possess any of the
common signs or symptoms of Polio, the individual can still have poliovirus in them and could

Alicia Giving Up
Life in the 24th ward will either make or break a man, at least this is what Alicia defines it as.
Being exposed to the horrors of the 24th ward has forced her to grow thick skin and a strong will.
Don t even think of trying to bait her psychologically, insults are nothing to her, shrugging them off
as if they didn t mean anything. Her unbroken and strong spirit will drive her forward even in the
hardest of times. Giving up is something she simply doesn t do, it s cowardly in her mind. Her
personal thought is that those who are cowardly are setting themselves up for failure. Alicia wasn t

Savannah Grace Essay
October 11 was a picture perfect fall day; it was the first beautiful day I had seen in months it
seemed. After losing my husband, the depression and the thought of raising my little girl alone
were too much to bare. This day however, was bright and promising, this was the day, that I had
my beautiful baby girl, Savannah Grace. Savannah was born 4 weeks early at 34 weeks into my
pregnancy. She weighed 5 pounds 7 ounces and was 18 inches long. Savannah s doctors believed
that my depression caused Savannah to be born prematurely (Santrock, 2013). She had and APGAR
scoreof 8 because her respiration and grimace were low. In normal respiration scores, the baby s
breathing would be regular and they would be crying but Savannah s respiration was... Show more

Then around a month later at 7 months she said her first word. We were at my mother s house
when she said mama , I have never been so proud in my life. After that, I knew she was going to
be talkative because she was always trying to say new words and talk to me. She was an early
walker and took her first steps around 9 months and was walking on her own around 13 months.
Savannah had an easy temperament; she did, however, show inhibition to the unfamiliar, starting
around 8 months, which is when a child starts to show shyness around strangers or peers (Santrock,
2013). Savannah also displayed a secure attachment, secure attachment in a recent study was linked
to high self esteem and self confidence (Santrock, 2013). I found that Savannah would often begin
to fuss when I left the room but as soon as I returned she would come over to me and smile at me
then continue to play with her toys (Santrock, 2013). The temperament and attachment have not
been linked to any disabilities. The temperament and attachment seem to make sense because
Savannah and I spend a lot of time together so she is more attached to me and, therefore, feels more
secure. In order to help develop a secure attachment a parent should keep a positive attitude
continuously throughout the child s life. When I am at work Savannah spends her time with her
grandmother rather than at daycare. I try to limit her time

Reflection Paper On Plane Alone
Ugh! No! that was my first reaction when my mom told me that I had to ride a plane alone. 13
hours! How am I supposed to endure that long time, by myself? Is she seriously expecting me to
be fine after? I thought it was ridiculous and impossible. However, from the deep corner of my
mind, something ensured me that I m going to be fine. Rachel, you will be going to have a free time
that no one will disturb it, that voice was even luring me! So, of course, I fell into that lure.
Thanks to God, my seat was the aisle, and few women, who looked like a tourists, sat next to me.
They looked nice, so I was relieved. Time to set up my seat , I thought. My routine for making my
seat was like this: First, I put my bag under the front seat, taking out my phone and the charger.
Then I open the blanket that was given from the plane, put the small pillow on my back, and plug
in my earbud. Lastly, I turn on the monitor and pick some songs that I will listen throughout the
flight. These make the best seat for the flight; trust me, I know it well.
After the take off, soon the flight attendants came with the foods. Oh yes, the best part of the
flight! The combination of eating and listening music at the same time is always fantastic; those
two are my favorite things to do. Although the quality of the foods was not as good as the foods I
usually eat, it was still delicious.
I got really bored after I eat, so I decided to watch the Beauty and the Beast one more time. Such a
good movie with

Gun Control and the Bill of Rights Essay
George Mason, a co author of the Bill of Rights, said To disarm the people is the best and most
effectual way to enslave them If this is true, why would anyone try to ban firearms in the U.S?
Guns have been a part of American history since we declared independence from Britain in 1776.
Many people believe that removing weapons from the hands of citizens is the only way to stop
criminals from shooting down people at malls and kids at schools, but this is not the case.
Outlawing guns is not the answer for effectively reducing gun crime.
According to Wikipedia, a firearm is a portable gun, being a barreled weapon that launches one or
more projectiles often driven by the action of an explosive force. The first firearms were invented in

Murder by knives was first, followed by clubs, then strangulation. It seems that by banning guns,
people used other ways to kill. On the other hand, Switzerland s gun policy is very different than
other nations. It requires all men to go through militia training at age twenty and issue an assault
rifle when they complete it. Switzerland has the lowest gun crime rates in the world, despite giving
everyone a high powered, fully automatic firearm.
Another hot topic that politicians debate about is allowing assault rifles, or select fire guns
(capable of semi automatic or fully automatic fire),which have the ability to shoot rounds as long
as you can hold the trigger down, in the hand of American citizens. Currently, eight states have
banned owning assault weapons in some sense. Some may argue that these guns are overkill, and
aren t practical for hunting or self defense, whereas other firearms fill that position well. In some
cases that might be true, but if multiple intruders enter your home armed, a pistol with a low
capacity clip may not suffice. Contrary to popular belief, gun crime has dropped significantly over
the past 20 years. Since 1993, violence involving guns has gone down 49% according to Pew
Research. The media is to blame for sensationalizing shootings and with the internet s influence an
argument that got out of hand can be seen as an all out battle. The Second

According to the notes, this incumbency effect if more advantageous for members of the House
than the Senate, but advantages are still high for both chambers. Some big advantage incumbents
have are they were already previously elected so their name is more well known amongst voters.
Also, people are more likely to donate to a candidate that has one before and in return that
incumbent gets more funding than a new candidate. The biggest and most important advantage
incumbents have is franking. Since they are in office, they have access to free postage and

  • 2. Verbal And Non-Verbal Communication Communication is sending and receiving information between two or more people. The person sending the message is referred to as the sender, while the person receiving the information is called the receiver. The information conveyed can include facts, ideas, concepts, opinions, beliefs, attitudes, instructions and even emotions. Communicationin its most basic sense is transferring information from sender to receiver. Communicating is the act of conveying information for the purpose of creating a shared understanding. 1. Verbal and Non Verbal Communication Communication can be either verbal or non verbal. Verbal commutation can be defined as information being communicated through speaking or a physical encounter while non verbal communication has been defined as communicating without words. It includes apparent behaviours such as facial expressions, eyes, touching, and tones of voice, as well as less obvious messages such as dress, posture and spatial distance between two or more people. • 3. Arguments For The Treaty Of Versailles The reparations outlined in the Treaty of Versailles sparked an outrage because many thought that it was unfair to not directly state the amount of reparations that were going to be paid. That is a valid argument, but most people were not aware of what kind of state Germany was in even after the war. Margaret Macmillan brings up a huge point in saying that after the war, Germany was also potentially very powerful. Its infrastructure was largely untouched by the war; it had a large and educated population; and, even without Austria, it was the biggest country in Europe west of the new Soviet Russia (Pg.3). Even though it was not directly stated how much in reparations they were going to pay, Germany was capable of paying it off. For many other countries, the amount of $33 billion would take possibly up to a century to pay off, and it only took Germany a generation. Like Macmillan said, Germany had the infrastructure to keep their economy strong and the smarts to pay off that massive amount of debt with ease. Even though it was unfair... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yet, when looking at the treaty in depth, you see that not all of it was totally unreasonable. Inside the Treaty of Versailles, it states that Germany will not be allowed to join the League of Nations. The League was a group formed after the first World War and meant to be a group of countries coming together to make up a national peace group, just like the United Nations. Even though the League was an utter failure, Germany should not have been allowed to join it. The rule was set for all instigators in the war, that they would not be a part of the League at that moment. Not many people argue the fact that Germany was not allowed in the League of Nations, because they helped start a World War. Germany did not disagree with this term because they understood why they were not allowed to join the League. This term was fair because Germany was excluded due to ... • 4. College Students and Depression Electronic Research Assignment College Students and Depression College Students and Depression College students face many adversities as they transcend their collegiate careers. Depression is a major factor that haunts students since the first day they walk into their first lecture. It is extremely alarming that in 2009, the American College Health Association found that 9.2 percent of college students at all types of institutions reported being diagnosed with depression, and 9.4 percent with anxiety (Fogg. B14 B15). However, most researchers believe that this statistical percentage is much higher. What exactly is depression? Also, the Stafford loans are not enough to support a person during college. The paper work and terminology in acquiring these loans is also tremendously difficult and puts a strain on the student who has to do this every year. It is extremely stressful on knowing whether or not you are going to be able to attend college next semester and can plague the student through the rest of their collegiate experience. For example Amy began to notice depression setting in because of her student loans. It was probably during sophomore year when I got a notice from FAFSA that my financial aid did not go through. I had no money, and I needed to live at campus. It was stressful, but I got it worked out after a couple of weeks, but it was pretty much down hill from there. The stress just kept piling up with all the schoolwork, plus I missed my family. The only thing that made me feel ever the slightest bit better was partying and drinking and going home for weekend. (Collins). This shows that debt can be the instigating force that pushes toward other depression inducing factors such as alcohol. As more and more students enroll in college and seek money, the higher the risk for depression. The affect of depression on college students is extremely harmful in the progression of education. The factors of depression can contribute to the progression of depression well past the collegiate years. The one aspect that has the greatest effect of prolonging ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Essay The Pagan Faith and Christian Holidays Since man first had conscious thought, he has sought the answers to life affirming questions. How was life created? Who created this world? What lies after death? What is the meaning of life? Time has created many answers to these questions. Many of these answers are lost in time, along with the peoples who believed them. As archaeologists search the past for a better history of the planet, old questions are answered and new questions asked. There are also ideas that have only been transformed through history, reshaped by society. There are common themes in the answers to those questions. When they are combined, believed and ritualized, they become religions. The polytheists of ancient civilizations worshipped the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Christianity began in what was the Roman Empire. Largely ignored by the masses, it was a small monotheistic cult in a polytheistic society. The simplicity of it quickly attracted converts (Veyne 525). Where once they only had Roman idols, a new one was added, that of Jesus Christ. It is not to say that they simply quit believing in the Gods and Goddesses that had safeguarded their crops, homes and families, only that this God offering salvation was added (Veyne 545). Popular society saw a world under control of demons, and to ensure their safety they worshiped a variety of Gods and Goddesses (Veyne 396). As the cult spread, new beliefs were added. These include the forgiveness of sin, the resurrection of Jesus, the belief in one God (Noss 636). The rapid growth of Christianity caused alarm in many people. Between 195 and 212, Christians were sporadically persecuted. After 212, persecution slowed, and they were allowed to exist (Frend 294). A major force in the popularization of Christianity was when Constantine converted. Constantine, a late Roman Emperor, discontinued the policy outlawing Christianity, and made it an acceptable religion in the Roman Empire (Frend 294). Christianity spread when the clergy canonized saints, building temples and altering rituals to match those in the Roman Empire. Marriages also brought Christianity new followers. • 6. Ozymandias and the Grecian Urn Paper Even though Ozymandias by Percy Shelley and Ode to a Grecian Urn by John Keats sound like very different types of poems, they still share some of the same characteristics. In Ozymandias, Shelley tells a story of how a man found a ancient statue of a king, with the words My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings,/ Look on my Works, ye Might, and despair! The statue was broken into pieces, and the land was bare, with nothing to look on (11). In Ode to a Grecian Urn, Keats is speaking to an ancient urn and describing the unchanging pictures that are on it. These poems are very different in how their objects interact with the passing of time and in the feelings that they invoke in the reader, but very similar in the romantic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The poem gives the reader a feeling of loneliness and emptiness by using lines like The lone and level sands and boundless and bare (14, 13). In Ode to a Grecian Urn , the connotations of the words that Keats uses are completely opposite. Keats even describes the urn as being able to tell A flowery tale more sweetly than [their] rhyme (4). Keats then goes on to state that the melodies unheard/ Are sweeter; therefore, ye soft pipes, play on (11 12). These lines are so light and pretty especially compared to the harshness of Shelley s poem. Keats describes the beautiful pictures on the urn throughout the rest of the poem, even making a sacrifice sound peaceful. Even though the way the poems objects interact with the passing of time and the feelings the poems invoke in the reader differ greatly, the romantic characteristics that both poems symbolize are very similar. Ironically, the opposite parallels of the two poems have a way of representing a romantic mindset. For example, the romantics believed that nature is supposed to teach. In Ozymandias , nature destroys a statue and a town that had arisen from greed and the abuse of power. The king is stated to have a sneer of cold command and a heart that fed his own desires (4,8). The trunkless legs of stone and a shattered visage makes it sound like nature was not very happy with the king s show of authority (2, 4). In Ode ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Little girls are given the idea of becoming a princess like Cinderella. They fantasize about wearing a ball gown and being swept off their feet. Even the strongest female characters in the role plays are most to be saved by a man with wealth and over power. Cinderella is setting a standard for women and limiting female gender roles to full exploration of their femininity. Typically the placement of the female role is perceived as being weaker, smaller and more fragile. Culturally, they are set as being passive and domesticated, all oriented towards submission and weakness. In the story Cinderella is slaved and abused by her step mother and sisters. The invention of the internet, the change in views on race, religion and the institution of marriage and many other changes too numerous to mention. There are three important processes that facilitate these changes, cultural processes (invention, discovery, and diffusion), social conflict, ideas, and demographic patterns. Along with social change, modernity has allowed our society to change. Modern societies are different from traditional societies and by looking at the theories of TГ¶nnies, Durkheim, Weber, and Marx. we see some defining traits of modernity. In industrial capitalist societies, he maintained, the struggle between capitalists and workers pushes society toward a socialist system of production. Marx vision about social conflict arising from inequality has proven to be correct and that it does create changes in every society. Without ideas, and men with dreams, there would be no innovation and little social change. Max Weber believed that most social change came from ideas. For example, it takes just one man with a charismatic message to inspire and change the world. Weber (1958, orig. 1904 l905) also high lighted the importance of ideas by revealing how the religious beliefs of early Protestants set the stage for the spread of industrial capitalism. Ideas unite people in a common goal allowing social change to take place, such as creating a new neighborhood watch program or protesting wall street for more income equality. As populations grow and change, demographic patterns play a part in social change. Some patterns include change in household size, women having fewer children, the age of the population, and the migration from one place to another. In America, households have been shrinking over the last century and family size is about half of what it used to be. We then added the DNAto four test tubes with two different restriction enzymes to cut segments at certain patterns it recognized. The character in the book were as believable in the book as they were in the movie, and quite frankly the exact same as I pictured so I give the author props for that. The actors portrayed the novel s characters to a tee and when I saw them it was like I had watched the movie first and then read the book and already had them in my mind. Also a minor character in the story that played a big role was Carlson. He shot Candy s dog which was a foreshadowing of what was to come. That same pistol shot Lennie. It was an important event that Carlson shot the dog because when he is done he cleans the gun which shows that when George and Lennie watch they will know where to find it also. Carlson also mentions that he will shoot the dog in the back of the head and that it is a humane way of killing the dog and it won t even quiver . George remembers this when he has to shoot Lennie and what a coincidence he shot him in the back of the head. Carlson is more important than you think. The change in that wouldn t have been a big controversy at all and it wasn t a big change either and I believe it would be argued a good or bad decision either. All in all the movie was a good movie. They did not have many changes to the plot or viewer s perception of the characters. The novel and book also go hand in hand in the symbolism and theme of the novel. Kostelnick states these two modes of messaging can evoke empathy or fear in an audience, but for what purpose? As his essay unfolds, he makes it clear that messaging must be multi faceted implementing color, interactive elements and animations to truly evoke a substantial response in the viewer. This dissection seems to parallel many elements and stylistic approaches film uses to captivate its audiences. Perhaps Kostelnick is right viral ad campaigns show that the average consumer connects well to a message that is truly heartfelt. For example, the new Amazon Prime ad... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Here I found parallels between his depiction of language s ability to evoke and express emotion and the limitations that coincide with printed data expression. Kostelnick posits that if one can connect one s audience to data in a tactile, immediate way, their emotional response will bring about engagement and interest. Data then, like language, must collaborate with color, imagery, and the viewer s ability to directly relate and feel empathy. Otherwise, printed data alone as with language alone simply cannot accomplish the same level of human connection. In sum, to be effective the message needs movement, color, and human influence. The viewer must feel that they are an active part in the data in order to feel most connected to it. Similarly, this is the case in the viral video messaging and film of today s world. Kostelnick may not have mentioned film in his essay, but he doesn t have to directly say it to point out to us just how we can make data consumption a more engaging, empathy inspired action by pulling from the ways of ... • 21. The Theme Of War By Edwin Starr, And Happy Christmas War, a brutal, barbaric and animalistic concept that contradicts the essence of being human. War by Edwin Starr, and Happy Christmas by John Lennon are songs promoting the anti war movement. Released in 1970 and 1972, whilst the war of Vietnam continues, both of these song depicts tone and mood through the themes love, peace and unity. Both artists has incorporated literary devices within the lyrics to convey the message and resonate it towards the audience. Edwin Starr s War, and John Lennons Happy Christmas, demonstrates the catastrophe created by war. Through their songs, the necessity of peace is emphasised for the future of the world. Oh, war, I despise cause it means destruction of innocent lives, war means tears to thousands of mother s eyes. When their sons go to fight, and lose their lives. It is evident that the lyrical terms formulates imagery, further empowering the message. In Happy Christmas, juxtaposition has been implemented to foreshadow the bright future if war is eradicated. A very merry Christmas, and a happy new year, let s hope it s a good one without any fear. The audience is able to empathise with both of these songs, war means tears to thousands of mother s eyes. • 22. Grief Scenarios Introduction. The question for this reflective journal was to demonstrate how I would assist a patient that has gone through a traumatic event. Therefore, I have decided to create a scenario to practically show the steps I would take during each stage of grief. Scenario Erin Reuben is a 26 year old female that just finished her degree in teaching. She is a newlywed and on her honeymoon, she and her husband went horseback riding. She fell off the horse and the horse stepped on her right leg. The trauma was so severe that they could not save the leg and that she was amputated roughly 10cm above the knee. Treatment. Erin will start to grow accustomed to her life as an amputee. She will start getting into a routine and become more and more independent. She will still have various struggles in her day to day life but she would have worked through the traumatic event. When a patient reaches this stage, it does not mean that their treatment is over. You must always be available to listen to any problems that the patient needs to discuss. Try to keep an eye on their emotion and psychological state. A patient can easily slip back into depression and therefore we as practitioners need to constantly be vigilant to identify any problems or needs and try to help a patient through ... One of the most notable chapters in Tim O Brien s book The Things They Carried is The Sweetheart of Song Tra Bong which is about a soldier bringing his girlfriend to Vietnam. In this chapter, the story is told by Rat Kiley who has a reputation for exaggeration and overstatement. The story starts out with a few soldiers jokingly throwing around the idea of getting girls into their camp. However, after thinking about it, one of them, named Mark Fossie, decides to fly in his girlfriend. He eventually did and he and her hung out together and had a good time. One example is that he brings up the color green many times during this chapter. In most of these color references he is referring to Vietnam. This occurred when her transformation was complete and she had turned from a nice, young girl into a cold, killing machine. Secondly, to help give the reader an image of how much she had changed, O Brien includes some really disturbing imagery. Such as when Mark finds her in the Green Berets bunker, she was wearing a necklace of human tongues. Elongated and narrow, like pieces of blackened leather, the tongues were threaded along a length of copper wire, one overlapping the next, the tips curled upward as if caught in a final shrill syllable. This is important because it gives the reader a vivid details in order for them to make a clear mental image of how messed up this girl has become and how the land/war has completely taken over who she was before she visited. Though his morals and personality have long been critiqued and scrutinized, Jackson s presidency had an indisputable effect upon the power of the president as an individual. Jackson s profound influence upon the office of presidency was exemplified within his fiscal, social, and political interventions in American politics during the mid nineteenth century. President Andrew Jackson changed the office of presidency through his continuous actions, which served to diminish the power of the federal government thus increasing both his political and economic agendas. Morality is the capacity of decision making a person does, for example, when a person finds a $100 bill on the floor on the way home, does he take it? Does he turn it in? or does he wait for a while and see if someone looks for it? These are just choices depending on the person if what decision he feels right for him to do. Moralityis based on a person s feelings, intentions, and actions based on what is proper and improper. Same goes for our everyday lives, we base it all on our morality to know what is right from wrong. Morality is the foundation of ethics; Morality is differentiating what is right from wrong, while Ethics is a branch of Philosophystudying how morality affects the acts ethically, if what he does is consistently moral or good, ethical in a sense that you know that decision making of a person. Morality condemns bad or improper actions such as rape, murder, theft, hostage taking etc. However, morality also depends on culture since we have different cultures, in our religion (Islam) it is moral for a man to have 4 wives as long as he can sustain all 4 along with the children, while in other cultures it is very immoral.... Cognitive language conveys facts i.e. things that we can know or be cognisant of. Non cognitive language conveys information that is not factual; feelings and emotional claims. Those who believe that religious language is non cognitive and so meaningless stem their beliefs from the Logical Positivist. The Logical Positivists were a group of philosophers who were primarily concerned with the truth contained in statements we can make, or in other words, with what can be logically posited, or stated. One other philosopher who was influenced by the Logical Positivists (alongside Karl Popper) was Anthony Flew. Flew believed that when you assert something, you are also asserting (whether you like it or not) that there are facts/evidence that may count against your assertion. His Falsification principle proposed that a statement was meaningless if no sense experience could count against it; a statement is meaningful if it is known what empirical evidence could count against it. Flew uses the parable of the gardener to illustrate his point; Two explorers return to come across a garden in which had grown flowers and weeds. The Electronic Communication Privacy Act, 1986 The Electronic Communication Privacy Act,1986 The Electronic Communication Privacy Act,1986 was initially n amendment of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 (Title III) which was also referred to as Wiretap Statute. This was an act that was intended to stop government illegal access to the private electronic communications. With the emergence of other means of electronic communication like the internet, there was a growing tendency of the government agencies to sneak into the information channels of citizens without their permission. This was due to the fact that the 1968 Act did not cover the electronic mails that were en route to their final destination. The courts till 2005 declared that this type of communication was not covered by the 1986 Act. It was until then that the US Court of Appeal reversed the ruling that has been barring the e mails from being covered under the privacy provision. The above scenario that the ECPA had to be amended with the argument that all electronic communication has to be temporarily stored at some given point in time and the argument that there was no any illegality in any interception before the communication reaches the destination was null and void. • 36. Baroque Art And The Baroque Era Baroque Ornamentation The use of ornamentation in Baroque music was a creative, and sometimes improvised outlet for period musicians that spurred from human instinct to manipulate melodic material. This urge to change melodic material by altering the rhythm, or melody can be seen throughout history. Music including Gregorian chant, which predates the Baroque era, contains some elements of ornamentation. It can be seen throughout the Baroque, Classical era, and even in modern music. Although improvisation has been repressed by modern conventions of performance, it shows itself in the style of improvised jazz and avant garde free improvisation. Performers use improvisation as a means of self expression and a way to express composer intent. During the Baroque era, there were many different styles and methods of ornamentation depending on location, style, date, and composer of a piece of music. Understanding the historical developments of the Baroque era and the development of ornamentation can help modern performers of Baroque music better understand how to play a more historically accurate performance. The Baroque era lasted from about 1600 to 1750. The music from the Baroque began to develop contrapuntally and in harmonic complexity. He is considered by many the father of modern philosophy and continues to have tremendous influence in the philosophical world to this day. The book, Meditations of First Philosophy, consist of six meditations and describes one meditation per day for six days. In meditation two, he claims that we have better knowledge of our own minds than of the physical world. This proclamation has sparked debates between countless philosophers for centuries. In meditation two, Descartes wax argument is an observation and an essential part of how he develops his theory of the mind and body being separate from each other. It begins by Descartes taking a piece of fresh wax and describing it. He describes the wax through his sensory perception of it. He describes the faint taste of honey, the smell of flowers, the yellow coloring, the cool to the touch, and the sound it makes when it is tapped. He takes all of these sensory perceptions and understands it to be a piece of wax. He then melts the wax. When the wax melted it eliminated all of the qualities he perceived it to have through his senses. When the wax melted the taste was gone, the smell and color were gone. It no longer made a sound when touched and it was now hot instead of cool. The wax was no longer the same. It was now different. Even though the wax does not look the same as it ... After losing my husband, the depression and the thought of raising my little girl alone were too much to bare. This day however, was bright and promising, this was the day, that I had my beautiful baby girl, Savannah Grace. Savannah was born 4 weeks early at 34 weeks into my pregnancy. She weighed 5 pounds 7 ounces and was 18 inches long. Savannah s doctors believed that my depression caused Savannah to be born prematurely (Santrock, 2013). After that, I knew she was going to be talkative because she was always trying to say new words and talk to me. She was an early walker and took her first steps around 9 months and was walking on her own around 13 months. Savannah had an easy temperament; she did, however, show inhibition to the unfamiliar, starting around 8 months, which is when a child starts to show shyness around strangers or peers (Santrock, 2013). Savannah also displayed a secure attachment, secure attachment in a recent study was linked to high self esteem and self confidence (Santrock, 2013). I found that Savannah would often begin to fuss when I left the room but as soon as I returned she would come over to me and smile at me then continue to play with her toys (Santrock, 2013). The temperament and attachment have not been linked to any disabilities. The temperament and attachment seem to make sense because Savannah and I spend a lot of time together so she is more attached to me and, therefore, feels more secure. Is she seriously expecting me to be fine after? I thought it was ridiculous and impossible. However, from the deep corner of my mind, something ensured me that I m going to be fine. Rachel, you will be going to have a free time that no one will disturb it, that voice was even luring me! So, of course, I fell into that lure. Thanks to God, my seat was the aisle, and few women, who looked like a tourists, sat next to me. They looked nice, so I was relieved. Time to set up my seat , I thought. My routine for making my seat was like this: First, I put my bag under the front seat, taking out my phone and the charger. Then I open the blanket that was given from the plane, put the small pillow on my back, and plug in my earbud. Lastly, I turn on the monitor and pick some songs that I will listen throughout the flight. These make the best seat for the flight; trust me, I know it well. After the take off, soon the flight attendants came with the foods. Oh yes, the best part of the flight! The combination of eating and listening music at the same time is always fantastic; those two are my favorite things to do. Although the quality of the foods was not as good as the foods I usually eat, it was still delicious. I got really bored after I eat, so I decided to watch the Beauty and the Beast one more time. Gun Control and the Bill of Rights Essay George Mason, a co author of the Bill of Rights, said To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them If this is true, why would anyone try to ban firearms in the U.S? Guns have been a part of American history since we declared independence from Britain in 1776. Many people believe that removing weapons from the hands of citizens is the only way to stop criminals from shooting down people at malls and kids at schools, but this is not the case. Outlawing guns is not the answer for effectively reducing gun crime. According to Wikipedia, a firearm is a portable gun, being a barreled weapon that launches one or more projectiles often driven by the action of an explosive force. The first firearms were invented in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Murder by knives was first, followed by clubs, then strangulation. It seems that by banning guns, people used other ways to kill. On the other hand, Switzerland s gun policy is very different than other nations. It requires all men to go through militia training at age twenty and issue an assault rifle when they complete it. Switzerland has the lowest gun crime rates in the world, despite giving everyone a high powered, fully automatic firearm. Another hot topic that politicians debate about is allowing assault rifles, or select fire guns (capable of semi automatic or fully automatic fire),which have the ability to shoot rounds as long as you can hold the trigger down, in the hand of American citizens. Currently, eight states have banned owning assault weapons in some sense. Some may argue that these guns are overkill, and aren t practical for hunting or self defense, whereas other firearms fill that position well. In some cases that might be true, but if multiple intruders enter your home armed, a pistol with a low capacity clip may not suffice. Contrary to popular belief, gun crime has dropped significantly over the past 20 years. Since 1993, violence involving guns has gone down 49% according to Pew Research. The media is to blame for sensationalizing shootings and with the internet s influence an argument that got out of hand can be seen as an all out battle. The Second ...
