Review Sheet Results
1. 2. Describe two Variables that affect the rate of diffusion.
The two variables that affect the rate of diffusion are:
A. The size of the molecule. The larger molecule will diffuse more slowly than the smaller molecule.
B. The nature of plasma membrane. If the membrane is composed of lipid portion., only lipid soluble
molecules can pass through while water molecules cannot.
3. Why do you think the urea was not able to diffuse through 20 MWCO? How well did the results
compare with your predictions?

Explain the effect that increasing the Na+ Cl concentration has on osmotic pressure and why it has this
effect. How well did the results compare with your prediction?
Increasing the Na+ Cl concentration in the left beaker while keeping the size of MWCO at 20 would
result in an increase in osmotic pressure (Run No.2). This was because the high concentration of Na+
Cl in the right side of membrane gives a increased force to water (in left beaker) to move towards the
solution with the highest concentration of solutes. Therefore, there was an increase in osmotic
pressure.
However, when the membrane was changed to from 20 MWCO to 50 MWCO, the Na+ Cl molecules
were able to diffuse through the membrane, the equilibrium would be reached and no osmotic pressure
was generated. If the concentration of Na+ Cl of both size are equal, the osmotic pressure would be
zero.
I obtained the results from the experiment supported my predictions because as the the concentration
Na+ Cl was increased from 5 mM to 10 mM (by adding more Na+ Cl ), the osmotic pressure also
increased. However, after the membrane was changed to 50 MWCO, the Na+ Cl molecules could
diffuse easily through the membrane and did not caused an increase in osmotic pressure.
2. Describe on way in which osmosis is similar to simple diffusion and on way in which is different.
One way in which osmosis is similar to simple diffusion is that both mechanisms are

Analysis Of Chris Ofili s No Woman No Cry
Painter Chris Ofili is well known in his highly decorative style to playfully explore the notion of black
cultural identity. British born to Nigerian parents artist Chris Ofili often makes work highlighting
political conversations. In 1998 he won the Turner Prize, the painting No Woman, No Cry was one of
the works included in exhibition which won him the prize. It was made while he was living and
working in London, a time period of Ofili s practice, beginning in 1996, in which he shifted from
making predominantly abstract paintings with loosely representative elements to pictures that
primarily focused on large scale individual figures. In particular, it is one of a number of paintings he
made in 1998 and 1999 that depict black women from the chest upwards. No Woman, No Cry(fig 1) is
a large, complex layered painting that depicts a crying black woman set in a background amongst
various abstract patterns. The black woman is shown in profile wearing blue eye shadow, red lipstick,
a string of coloured beads that form a necklace, the jewel of her necklace represented by ball of
elephant dung frequently used in Ofili s paintings. A stream of tears falls from her eyes, which all
feature in their centre a very small photograph of a boys face. When exhibited, Ofili has also used
elephant dung to make two rests on which to display the work while it leans against the gallery wall.

The Rights Of The United States Constitution
The United States Constitution was designed to enfranchise the white men who, in 1787, were the
only citizens included in John Locke s conception of the social contract (outlined in his Second
Treatise of Government). At this time in history, women were not invited to be free and equal, in
relation to their husbands and fathers or as citizens in the founding fathers new republic. Therefore,
the Constitution never addresses abortion, contraception, or marriage. Arguments made in laws and
court cases on these topics, specifically reproductive rights, have therefore traditionally rested on a
right to privacy the court has interpreted as being found in the first, fourth, fifth, and fourteenth
amendments to the Constitution, rather than a right to freedom from sex based discrimination found in
the nineteenth amendment. The landmark supreme court cases Griswold v. Connecticut and Roe v.
Wade were both won on these grounds, both setting a precedent for the expansion of the right to
privacy. This protection has also been affected by the 2003 Partial Birth Abortion Ban and the Hyde
Amendment.
First off, in 1965 the supreme court ruled 7 2 in the Griswold v. Connecticut case that the state of
Connecticut s ban on contraception was unconstitutional, because it denied a married couple s right to
privacy (a right extended to unmarried individuals under the Griswold precedent in the 1972
Eisenstadt v. Baird supreme court case). This expansion of privacy in Griswold later informed Roe v.

3rd Grade Bilingual Education Curriculum
Over the years data has become a major part of school starting in pre kindergarten. Evaluations
happen every day in school. The only thing that make a different is when and what type. Is the
evaluation given after instruction daily or just after a unit? Next, what happens with the data from the
evaluation? Are the standards retaught or is it just time to move to the next unit? Being a teacher it is
baffling how you can teach a whole lesson and only half if that many of your students understood. The
concerning point is that you re not only responsible for the half that understand. You are also
responsible for the half that didn t understand. After teaching for so many years now I have noticed
there is not a perfect class. With knowing this when teachers receive bad test results on an assessment
they should ask their selves the same questions. Why do they not understand and what can I do
differently? However, these are the question that the teacher is being ... Show more content on

Interpretation Of The Romantic Imagination In Samuel...
The whole idea of the romantic imagination tends to be subject to various interpretations, mainly due
to the fact that the perception of romantic artists is constantly changing. In Samuel Taylor Coleridge s
era, the role of the poet was there to showcase the endless possibilities and beauty that had been
previously housed through heritage and convention, as well as bring forth truth in his or her work. Due
to this upgraded form of expression in literature, as well as in regards to poetic composition, the
imagination became a primary focus point. This topic allowed poets such as Coleridge to see beyond
the surface of what they tried to convey, beyond rationality and reason, to create the ideology of a
world within one already existing. He, in particular, believed that they key element for that of poetic
composition was simply down to the employment and exploration of imagination. The formulation of
fresh creative ideas which strives to push the boundaries beyond any form of comprehension, was
something Coleridge believed to be a necessity in the birth of a good poetic verse as well as one s own
expression of individualism. Coleridge s poetry in regards to the romantic imagination can be
perceived in a multitude of ways. This reasoning is due to the reader s own interpretation of the topic,
which understandably varies from person to person. Therefore, the focal point of this essay will be
based around my own analysis of Coleridge s take on the imagination. This account on

Yellowtone Supervolcano Essay
Yellowstone Supervolcano The Yellowstone River crater is that the volcanic crater and supervolcano
situated in Yellowstone National park within the u. s., generally stated as the Yellowstone
Supervolcano. Yellowstone is famous for its geyser and its wildlife, additionally; it has a supervolcano
beneath the surface. Supervolcanoes are huge, single ejections that generally keep going for about a
week. A supervolcano in the heart of America s northwest can possibly cover the US in an atomic
winter . If it somehow happened to eject, the Yellowstone supervolcano would be one thousand times
as capable as the 1980 Mount St Helens emission, specialists claim. While it has lain dormant for over

The U.S. Geographical Survey (USGS) uncovered that there is a humongous magma supply
underneath the Yellowstone National Park in Idaho. The aftereffect of this magma reservoir is not only
a normal fountain of liquid magma, but rather a supervolcano, which is eleven times more grounded.
The presence of this supervolcano acts like a risk to the U.S. One emission can wipe half of the nation,
a TechInsider report said. In a study by BBC, they characterized a supervolcano as a well of lava in a
gigantic scale. Its emission is brought about by magma weight, making its ejections more unsafe and
fatal contrasted with an ordinary fountain of liquid magma. What makes its ejection all the more
debilitating is its extensive magma store. As indicated by BBC s same study, a typical well of lava can
radiate around one kilometer of material, while a supervolcano can retch no less than one thousand
kilometer of material, in this manner bringing about a more extensive scope of demolition when it

Differences And Similarities Between Safavid And Ottoman...
The Safavid and Ottoman Empires were two Empires who were similar in size, close in proximity, and
existed in overlapping times. The Ottomans influenced from 1299 1922 CE while the Safavid Empire
influenced from 1501 1736 CE. At the height of the Safavid Empire, the Safavids controlled a vast
amount of territory that stretched from parts of Turkey to Uzbekistan. The Ottoman Empire, at their
height, controlled most of Southeast Europe, parts of Central Europe, Western Asia, parts of Eastern
Europe and the Caucasus, North Africa, and the Horn of Africa. Both empires were ruled by monarchs
and the main religion of both Empires was Islam. There was some difference in the type of Islam
practiced in each Empire, as the main religion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reason why the Safavids and Ottomans were neither allies nor trading partners, was the difference
in the sect of Islam each Empire worshiped. The Ottomans worshiped Sunni Islam while the Safavids
worshiped Shi a Islam. The main difference between Sunni Islam and Shi a Islam is who each group
thought should lead the Muslim community after the death of their prophet, Muhammad. Sunnis
believe that Muhammad chose Abu Bakr to proceed him and Shias believe that Muhammad chose Ali
to lead after him. Abu Bakr was Muhammad s father in law and companion who was the first person
to become Muslim outside of Muhammad s blood relatives. Ali was Muhammad s cousin and son in
law. This dispute over who should rule divided the two groups and made them enemies. Since the
Safavids main religion was Shi a Islam and the Ottomans was Sunni, there was a guaranteed conflict
between them. Although this is not necessarily true, in reality the religious difference does lead to
conflict. In 1501, when Shah Isma il was coronated, generations of brutal warfare started between the
two Empires. This warfare started for multiple reasons, but the biggest reason is because of religion.
The Safavids, being Shi a Muslims, did not tolerate any other religions, or different sects of religions,
especially not Sunni Muslims. This obviously caused the Safavids to form a hatred for the Ottomans.
The Ottomans believed that the Safavids represented a negation of the religious and political
foundations of their Empire, which therefore meant that the Safavids needed to be exterminated. As a
result of this thinking, a state of constant warfare ignited between the two

The Electric Car
In 10 years, it is believed that the electric car will slowly start to push the gasoline/petrol vehicle to the
curb, and it will do it with style and swagger. In this ever growing age of technology and
advancement, more and more people are either looking very seriously into or have already transitioned
from ICE (internal combustion engine) vehicles. The transition is seemingly a slow one for the
majority of the public and although it is understandable, it is also inevitable. Combustion engine
vehicles have been around for over a century and have dominated the car industry greatly. The
reliance on ICE engines can be visible in any direction someone turns, walking through the streets of
any city. The mindset that ICE rules, and is the only efficient and viable method of transportation is
slowly being replaced by the ever decreasing well of fossil fuels and oil on earth. Oil has been the
spine of the Earth and the gasoline car, it s pumping heart.
There are many reasons that more and more people are turning to electric. Some of the advantages are:
Higher efficiency by as much as 400 to 600 percent over an internal combustion engine
No polluting byproducts because this car gets its power from batteries, the wind or the sun
Three times as efficient as gas engines
Is extremely safe
Gets better mileage than any other car on the road
Quiet to drive
Convenient
Durable

Importance Of Public Speaking Speech
Before I started taking UMUC SPCH 100, I never encountered a situation where I had to use public
speaking skills at all. Just the thought of having to speak in front of a class as a requirement made me
nervous. But that wasn t the only challenge I was facing mentally. Since I never had any public
speaking experience before, things such as body language, tone, eye contact, etc. were easily forgotten
since my last speech class over five years ago. All of that was easily spotted in the process of making
my self introduction video when I kept deciding to do retakes repeatedly. In the end, I managed to
produce a product that would keep me from failing but it was nothing that I could be proud of.
When it came time for the second speech to be due I was relieved almost that it would be another
prerecorded session. I thought about how I could have sort of cheat the fundamentals of public
speaking by just doing retakes any time I messed up. But my luck ran out when it was changed to an
in class project where we would use our peers as an interview partner. I was glad that we have been
doing a few impromptu speeches up to this point. Without any sort of warm up beforehand it would
have been a far worse speech than it already was. After interviewing my partner, I thought I had
compiled enough information but I failed to transition it to a well organized speech. I took this as a
good wakeup call that I really needed to practice the basic of public speaking. After delivering my
speech I

Key Sustainability Challenges Of Colep
1. The Sustainability Challenge
Moving from corporate to business unit level, the key point is the definition of a strategy to win in the
market and be competitive how the BU wins in the market place? (Porter, 1996), (Luecke, 2005). In
order to drive increase revenues through customer satisfaction it is required that companies have a
market oriented strategy. This typically derives from understanding and meeting customer needs
(Kotler and Keller, 2006). In order to successfully outperform the market, best practices suggest that a
combination between inside out (company to market) and outside in analysis (market to company)
should be considered to define a winning strategy (Titov and Protsiv, 2006). From an inside out
analysis it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the kick off of The Unilever Sustainable Living Plan (USLP) in 2008, Unilever has been
focusing its business strategy on the need to develop solutions to some of the world s deep social and
environmental challenges. According Unilever (2014), the success of their business relies on finding
sustainable solutions to support long term growth. They target to double the size of the business while
reducing the environmental footprint (Unilever, 2014). In 2013 Unilever launched the compressed
deodorant aerosol spray technology, a sustainable solution which resulted in less impact to the
environment. According to the LCA studies, if 1 million of people switched to compressed deodorants
and assuming each person uses in average 5 units a year, there would be a reduction of 696 tonnes of
CO2 in the air (Unilever, 2013). However, Unilever recognizes that to achieve great solutions there
must be partnerships with both suppliers and customers; a complete value chain analysis (Unilever,
2014). Important to highlight that from a business point of view, Unilever experienced tremendous
growth since they start their sustainability plan (Karlsson and Luttropp, 2006). Other companies are

To correct the financial pitfalls of the company, Breeden required members of the Audit Committee to
have strict financial expertise and demonstrate appropriate behavior. He proposed that the committee
hold eight meetings per year, two of which included the General Counsel. Previously, the Audit
Committee spent only three to six hours a year overseeing the financial activities of the organization
with annual revenue in the tens of billions. Breeden sought to bring the internal audit department; the
CFO and the finance team together in the same physical location where they were previously
geographically separate. These changes would be beneficial, as it would improve internal
communication and increase the involvement of the Audit Committee in the financial operation and
reporting of the company. The Audit Committee would be responsible for reviewing the performance
of the CFO as well as the external auditors. Breeden believed the more transparency the Audit
Committee had the more accountability it would be able to place on the Financial Team, leading to
better financial reporting practices. One of the more direct mandates given to Breeden by the court
was to prevent excessive executive compensation. Ebbers was able to buy the loyalty of the board

Human Resource ( Hr ) Departments
Human Resource (HR) departments were established to help companies enhance their employee s
potential, which in turn enhances the performance of the company. HR departments are expanding in
companies regardless of their size. Due to state and federal law, human resource departments have to
adapt and grow. These HR laws are in place to help both the employee and the employer. This paper
will discuss the Family and Medical Leave Act and what it is able to provide for employees.
The Law Public Law 103 3; 29 U.S.C. sec. 2601; 29 CFR 825, better known as the Family and
Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA), was put into effect on August 5, 1993. Interestingly, the FMLA
was proposed to congress every year since 1984 but was blocked repeatedly. Finally, the FMLA
passed with bipartisan agreement through the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate on
February 3 and 4, 1993 respectively. President Bill Clinton signed the FMLA into law on February 5,
1993 in his first term as President of the United States. President Clinton wanted the FMLA to balance
the demands of the workplace with the needs of families. The FMLA requires employers to provide
their employee s job protection and unpaid leave to its employees for qualifying medical and family
reasons. Congress passed the FMLA because they believed that mothers and fathers should have the
opportunity to start families early in their career without having to worry about losing their current
jobs. Congress wanted to put

Slaughterhouse Five Literary Analysis
So It Goes Poo tee weet Within the novel Slaughterhouse Five the author Kurt Vonnegut uses symbols
and themes within the narrative to help reveal the mental effects of war. Billy Pilgrim becomes
unstuck in time because his mind is mentally going through a breakdown because of the things he seen
in war. Billy is spastic in time, has no control over where he is going next, and the trips aren t
necessarily fun. He is in a constant state of stage fright, he says, because he never knows what part of
his life he is going to have to act in next (Vonnegut, 23). Billy is time traveling in his memories in

So it goes is supposed to give everyone comfort about the idea of death because we all have to die
eventually. Billy seems to accept the idea of death because of the Tralfamadorians logic, The most
important thing I learned on Tralfamadore was that when a person dies he only appears to die. He is
still very much alive in the past, so it is very silly for people to cry at his funeral (Vonnegut, 26). Billy
accepts this belief and it works for a while, when describing Derby s death Billy says, Everyday was
beautiful and nothing hurt (Vonnegut, 122). Billy seems to be accepting of Derby s death, but in
actuality he s not. If the idea behind, so it goes (Vonnegut, 25) were true than Billy would accept the
fact that Derby is dead, move on, and wouldn t need to mention Derby s death again. However Billy s
mentioning of Derby at the end of chapter ten allows the reader to realize that death is still a troubling
aspect of Billy s life. Billy is trying to make sense of Derby s senseless death, Somewhere in there the

European And Native American Beliefs
The history of Native American religion is influenced by exposure to Europeans, the beliefs of
different tribes, and traditions that were passed down orally. When the Europeans came to America
they impacted the Native American religions in many different ways. The Native Americans had to
adapt to Europeans, but they also kept to their original ways. Even before the adaptations, the Native
Americans and Europeans had similarities including: believing one god and one main evil spirit,
believing in an afterlife, and they both believed in the immortality of the soul. Even though the
Natives believed in one god, Master Spirit , unlike the Europeans, they believed that the god could
assume a variety of forms and both genders; Native Americans also believed in many lesser spirits.
Other differences were that Natives passed their beliefs down verbally instead of documenting
everything in a book or books. As a result of exposure to Europeans, Native American traditions
gradually intermixed with Christian beliefs. One example of the influence of Christianity on Native
American rituals is the adaptations to the Sun Dance. Before the Sun Dance was primarily practiced in
the Upper Plains and the Rocky Mountains and performed at the summer solstice. The dance was
often practiced differently for each tribe, but the Eagle, helping bring body and spirit in harmony, is an
important symbol for all tribes. There are many similarities for each tribe including: specific songs

Jocasta as a Tragic Hero Essay

Upholding Jocasta as the Tragic Hero
What makes a tragic hero? Aristotle lays down groundwork of a tragic hero as being essentially good.
They are neither villain nor saint because they have flaws. Several elememts are nevcesary to have a
tragic hero, they are the tragic flaw, the reversal, recognition, and hubris. These generally make up the
story of the tragic hero, and in the case of Jocasta, the wife and mother of Oedipus in Sophocles
Oedipus the King, she posses all three. Yet she is not truly considered a tragic hero, but a tragic
character by many. However seeing as it is the character of Jocasta that sets the story in motion, and

Because she thinks that she and Laius were able to avoid the prophecy, she gives little credence to
what the oracle says (Sophocles 1.1. 784 796). She respects the gods, but not the oracles. She tries to
lead Oedipus to adopt this standpoint as well, telling him of the prophecy told to Laius and herself,
and how that prophecy did not come to pass. After telling Oedipus that he need not worry about the
words of a prophet she tells him, Whatever the god needs and seeks he ll bring to light himself, with
ease. (Sophocles line 799 800). Later she goes to Apollo s temple and asks for his guidance, saying
that they are in the grip of fear, beseeching his help for Oedipus and saying, I come with prayers and
offerings...I beg you, cleanse us, set us free of defilement! (Sophocles line 1009 1010). She does not
yet realize that the defilement cannot be cleansed.
Hubris
Her only flaw is disregard for the prophets; she never disregards the gods themselves. Her disbelief in
them is sound, and she maintains her belief in the gods. In this way it is hubris, her overwhelming
pride or belief that she thwarted the earlier prophecy. It is still this flaw which is a part of her tragic

132 People In Jail Essay
When jails and prisons are built, like other buildings, they come with an occupancy limit for good
reason. This is for the well being of everyone in the building, but also, should there be an emergency
and the building needs to be evacuated, everyone will be able to get out quickly and safely. If a
building is overcrowded, there is a chance that with there being so many extra people in the building,
that some people might get trampled, or trapped in the building. When it comes to jails, the number of
people allowed to be in them is important because that accounts for the number of beds that are in the
jail, as well as the number of resources in the jail for each person to live seemingly comfortable.
Having an extra 132 people in a jail that was originally built to only hold 332 is very excessive and
cannot be comfortable for anyone in it, nor is it safe for some inmates. Those who suffer from being
mentally ill probably face the most issues with it. Being in jail is already the wrong place for anybody
with a mental illness to be, but to be there and not have any personal space may trigger some people to
act out, especially if that is not something that are used to. Jails are also expected to do more than just
house the individuals who have been sentenced there, they are expected to provide some form of
rehabilitation to the inmates, with hopes that they will not recidivate and return to prison once they
have been released. If there are an excessive amount of extra people

The Influence of Christianity on Ancient and Modern Greece

?From the earliest establishment of Christian churches in Macedonia, Achaia, Epirus, and Crete, to the
expansion of the Orthodox Church, Greece has been a formidable landmark for development of
Christianity throughout the world.? From its arrival to Greece with the first preaching of Paul, the
Christian faith has undergone a unique assimilation into the cultural and philosophical traditions of the
Greek people to create a church, visibly distinguishable from all other sects and denominations of
Christianity.? Christianity has certainly influenced the nation of Greece.? However, it is safe to say

Throughout the centuries, it has been largely dedicated to ?seeking to come to as careful a

philosophical roots, it is not hard to see why Greeks put so much emphasis on doctrine.? Socrates
introduced human logic as a sufficient means of examining human nature, as opposed to the
superstitious beliefs of less ?enlightened? societies.? The systems of Plato and Aristotle laid the
groundwork for doctrinal proofs through scientific theology.[2]? Indeed, the Greeks prided themselves
on a clarity of mind which the rest of the world had yet to achieve.? By coming to the height of human
potential for reason and sophistication without the aid of Christianity, the Greeks were in a sense
prepared to incorporate their progress into the truths of religion.
This philosophy would not only be a bridge to faith for the Greeks, but a recurring tool, used to define

seven ecumenical councils, between the fourth and early ninth centuries.? It was here that the Church

Examples Of Anti Superstition
The word superstition can be defined as a belief in something that cannot be justified by fact or
evidence. Superstitions are usually associated with religion and are based on the fear of the unknown.
A superstitious individual is someone who believes in omens, auspicious and inauspicious times,
astrology and rituals to ward off evil or bring blessings. Superstition is a worldwide phenomenon.
However india in particular is home to several bizarre superstitions that continue to be passed down
from generation to generation. Irrational practices such as animal sacrifices and witch hunting and

Goodyear uses three ammonia heat exchangers in its production process lines. The ammonia cooling
system supplies the heat exchangers with pressurized liquid ammonia. As the ammonia absorbs heat
from the process chemical flowing through tubes in the center of the heat exchanger, the ammonia
boils in the heat exchanger shell (Figure 2). A pressure control valve in the vapor return line maintains
ammonia pressure at 150 psig in the heat exchanger. Ammonia vapor returns to the ammonia cooling
system where it is pressurized and cooled, liquefying the ammonia.

The process chemicals exiting the heat exchanger flow to the process reactors. Each heat exchanger is
equipped with a rupture disk in series with a pressure relief valve (both set at 300 psig) to protect the
heat exchanger from excessive pressure. The relief system vented ammonia vapor through the roof to
the atmosphere.
Liquefied ammonia causes frostbite on contact. One cubic foot of liquid ammonia produces 850 cubic
feet of vapor. Since ammonia vapor is lighter than air, it tends to rise. The vapor can also remain close
to the ground when it absorbs water vapor from air in high humidity conditions. The Occupational

The Strategy Of Offering Free Food Essay
The strategy of offering free food to the poor will require minimal investment since the company is
already involved in the catering industry. To identify the deserving beneficiaries, the company will
register all of them using the help of the local authorities. The beneficiaries will be issued with cards
that will allow them to access the service at any outlet of the company. This will ensure that the
company s activities are not interrupted, as the beneficiaries will be served just like any other
customers. The supply of the foodstuffs to be used will be derived from the company s stores; this will
ensure that the consumables on the company s shelves are always fresh. Additionally, the company
will utilize its transportation capacity to supply the food material to the designated areas. To cut down
on the expenses, the company will encourage part time volunteer services to help with the preparation
and serving of the foodstuffs. The company is already operating a food store, and therefore, the need
for legal paperwork will be minimal. The company will seek all the necessary documents to ensure
that the exercise is conducted within the law. To jumpstart the project, there is a need to have several
kitchens where the food preparation will be conducted. Additionally, the company will use its shops to
serve the registered beneficiaries. The Woolworths Company is a giant retailer that deals in general

The Shadow Of The Galilean
The Shadow of the Galilean: The Quest of the Historical Jesus in Narrative Form. By Gerd Theissen.
Minneapolis: Fortress Press, 2007, 212 pp., $15.50.
The writer, Theissen, truly engages the reader to really look at things in a more logical manner by
painting a scenario of what life might have been like when Jesus walked among us. His use of
descriptive language to describe locations and atmospheres, allows the reader to vividly recreate and
see these images and feel as though you have traveled back in time. The book is written in a narrative
format, which suits me well because it gives you more of a personal feel to it. You almost feel guilty
reading the sometimes lowly thoughts of Andreas, the main character in the story.
Theissen is very knowledgeable in his Bible history and he displays it well throughout the book. He
speaks about many episodes in Jesus life that we know to be true based on the Bible, and he
interweaves them with his own fictitious character s storyline. This really gives the reader a sense of
what someone might have seen, heard and thought about Jesus during that timeframe, and it gives the
reader a better chance to relate emotions with biblical history. Although the book is fictitious in nature,
Theissen does a great job at elaborating how it might have been back in time for someone to become a
new follower of Christ. He highlighted the many questions they may have faced not only on a
personal basis, but on a public one as well.
What makes the book

Alibaba- Corporate Advantage and Competiton
How does Alibaba group create corporate advantage? (Why are the businesses under one roof?) Is this
corporate advantage sustainable?
Is the current degree of competition amongst the business units appropriate? Do you think Jack Ma
should encourage more cooperation? If so how?
The Alibaba group has thrived in the Chinese e commerce sector from its inception in 1998. They
currently account for over 70% of online shopping in China and delivered annual revenues of $636
million in the 12month period ending June 2009 (case p1 2). Alibaba s successes are due to multiple
factors that have allowed them to create corporate advantage, and thus establish market leadership in

Ma has created corporate advantage through championing internal competition between subsidiaries,
which although report directly to himself, are run as separate business units under the Alibaba Group.
Ma provides each subsidiary with its own board of directors, operating managers and executive team
to encourage competition (case p.7). Executives are rewarded through business autonomy, in
conjunction employees are incentivised through stock options linked to group performance (case p.9).
The principal way in which Alibaba Group s organisational structure creates corporate advantage is
the flexibility gained from its decentralised nature. Paired with this structure, Alibaba s shared value of
embrace change puts emphasis on innovative and adaptive practice (exhibit 11 case). This notion is
best explained by CFO Joseph Tsai who stated We sacrificed forced synergies in order to quickly
pursue subsidiary opportunities (case p.9). Alipay provides a prime example of the strength of Alibaba
s decentralised structure. Launched in 2004 as part of Taobao, Alipay held consumer s payments until
purchased goods were received, thus eliminating settlement risk. Initially incubated, Alipay became
fundamental to Taobao s growth and soon reached critical mass, this presented opportunities beyond
the internal organisation leading to Ma s decision to separate Alipay from Taobao as an independent

The key aspect discussed in the book, The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein, is the relationship between
giving and friendship. Should the act of giving be equal between friends? Should giving be solely on

friendship sacrifices all selflessly. He acknowledges that true friendship should give up all for the sake
of the other partner and in this essay, we will explore how the author defines a true friendship.

The Performance Factor As My Dependent Variable
The Performance factor as my dependent variable in this research proposal can be for each of the
boxers utilizing the orthodox/southpaw position, observing the quantity of triumphs against an
orthodox/southpaw adversary.
Age: the average age for an active professional boxer ranges from 22 40 years
Opponent s stance: this could either be southpaw or orthodox yet this data directs the choice of
evaluating performance in a boxing match (win/lose/draw).
Ratings or Rankings: base on the rule that a boxer has been dormant for over a year, won t be
incorporated into the rankings, unless he has a match formally booked. Every boxer is positioned on
the outcomes they have accomplished in their own particular weight division. A boxer can t be
positioned in a particular weight division until he has contended in that division..
Diverse/Different weight classes: Separating boxers into divisions guarantees reasonable BOUTS. For
instance, a contender who measures more than 200 pounds has more drive behind his punch, while a
boxer who weighs 140 pounds will probably be quicker and more light footed than the heavier boxer.
While weight classes were initially isolated into eight divisions, the confining classes today are
separated to 17 divisions, permitting contenders to be all the more unequivocally coordinated with
their weight partners.
Number of fights involved: Mileage in boxing is not controlled by matches, but rather by harm
sustained. So 5 dangerous battles may be a boxer s whole

Examples Of Religion In Lord Of The Flies
Religion in Chaotic Societies Such as Brave New World and Lord of the Flies Differences dominate
the varying cultures and societies of the world. Differences appear everywhere, from cultural norms to
forms of government. Most, if not all civilizations rely on some form of religion. Whether a society
relies on a singular extraterrestrial force as a god, or many gods who exist as one, each culture relies
on religion to calm the chaotic nature of the world. The 20th century novels, Lord of the Flies by
William Golding, and Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, both use the of Christ like archetypes,
upon which societies depend when they fall into chaos, in an attempt to calm the disarray of everyday
reality. Human nature naturally gravitates towards a religious figure when reality becomes
overwhelming. Selflessness and sympathy build the archetype of a Christ like figure. Christ like
figures work to aid the society, demonstrating selflessness and generosity. In Lord of the Flies, Simon
remains selfless in the face of adversity. While the other boys obsess and fight over hunting and fire,
Simon helps take care of the littluns. To the littluns, Simon acts as a Christ like figure: Simon found
for them the fruit they could not reach, pulled off the choicest from up in the foliage, passed them
back down to the endless, outstretched hands (Golding 56). Golding shows how Christ like figures
demonstrate selflessness to others, providing the best for other people rather than for

The Impact Of Modern Health Care On The United States
Modern health care is a policy revolving around a system that allows individuals to access medical
services in order to maintain or improve physical and mental health. There is not universal coverage
throughout the world, and some individuals have the access and coverage vital to their wellbeing. In
the last decade, healthcare cost have been rising at a steady rate on a worldly scale. Numerous
industrialized and developed countries are being exposed to a steady fluctuation within the structure of
the system, and the question on how to control and prevent further increases has yet to be solved. A
large percentage of the GDP for developed countries is currently being spent on the healthcare system.
Countries such as the United States spend around 17.7% of its GDP on healthcare, with the
Netherlands spending the second most at around 11.9%. This widespread increase on healthcare
expenditures is only going to increase as time progresses, unless a new universal system is
implemented that will help control the cost worldwide. In many countries, millions of people suffer
from illness because of their lack of resources, and appropriate access of health care they need. As a
result of this, a large percentage of the population in the lesser developed regions are dying due to the
nonexistence of treatment. Contrary to that, if medical attention is received, the costly services push
them into poverty or financial deficit. In countries that have access to certain health services at an

Comparing Parkinson´s Disease And Huntington s Disease
Two Diseases, One Hope: Fetal Neural Transplantation in the Treatment of Parkinson s and
Huntington s Disease
Parkinson s Disease (PD) and Huntington s Disease (HD) are neurodegenerative diseases that are
caused by malfunctions within the motor sector of the nervous system. These malfunctions, which are
caused either by the surplus (as in HD) or absence (as in PD) of hormones, are a direct result of neural
cell deterioration within the brain. PD and HD illustrate two very different behavioral patterns that are
subsequently caused by two opposite and extreme biological abnormalities. Yet the common thread
between the two conditions is that there are major mechanical predicaments arising between cellular
connections within the brain. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Information from the nigra cells passes through the synapses with the aid of a specific hormone,
dopamine, which is a significant chemical transmitter in the brain. Because the existence of dopamine
is essential to the function of the substania nigra, it is also essential for the various muscular activities
controlled by the striatum, such as walking, balance, etc. (16).
In Parkinson s Disease and Huntington s disease the nigra striatum neural communication assemblage
is severely hampered. PD results from a depletion in the amount of dopamine produced by the brain.
At the onset of the disease, dopamine secreting cells of the substania nigra, either because of genetic
factors or environmental toxins, experience mass cell death. Thus, the nigra cells are unable to form
synapses through which they secrete and relay dopamine to the striatum in a neural circuit within the
basal ganglia (18).
HD, in contrast, is not a condition offset by the environment, as PD is thought to be. It is indeed a
condition due to cell death in the brain (basal ganglia) but is caused by an abnormal gene that codes
for a mutant protein called huntingtin. Huntingtin, thus, interferes with normal brain cell functions by
causing a depletion in neural cellular energy and neural death (12)(9).
Another example of how HD can be described as being the opposite condition to PD, has to do with
both behavioral and biological symptoms of the neurodegenerative

Describe two Variables that affect the rate of diffusion. The two variables that affect the rate of diffusion are: A. The size of the molecule. The larger molecule will diffuse more slowly than the smaller molecule. B. The nature of plasma membrane. If the membrane is composed of lipid portion., only lipid soluble molecules can pass through while water molecules cannot. 3. Why do you think the urea was not able to diffuse through 20 MWCO? Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Explain the effect that increasing the Na+ Cl concentration has on osmotic pressure and why it has this effect. How well did the results compare with your prediction? Increasing the Na+ Cl concentration in the left beaker while keeping the size of MWCO at 20 would result in an increase in osmotic pressure (Run No.2). This was because the high concentration of Na+ Cl in the right side of membrane gives a increased force to water (in left beaker) to move towards the solution with the highest concentration of solutes. Therefore, there was an increase in osmotic pressure. However, when the membrane was changed to from 20 MWCO to 50 MWCO, the Na+ Cl molecules were able to diffuse through the membrane, the equilibrium would be reached and no osmotic pressure was generated. If the concentration of Na+ Cl of both size are equal, the osmotic pressure would be zero. I obtained the results from the experiment supported my predictions because as the the concentration Na+ Cl was increased from 5 mM to 10 mM (by adding more Na+ Cl ), the osmotic pressure also increased. However, after the membrane was changed to 50 MWCO, the Na+ Cl molecules could diffuse easily through the membrane and did not caused an increase in osmotic pressure. 2. Describe on way in which osmosis is similar to simple diffusion and on way in which is different.

  • 4. Analysis Of Chris Ofili s No Woman No Cry Painter Chris Ofili is well known in his highly decorative style to playfully explore the notion of black cultural identity. British born to Nigerian parents artist Chris Ofili often makes work highlighting political conversations. In 1998 he won the Turner Prize, the painting No Woman, No Cry was one of the works included in exhibition which won him the prize. It was made while he was living and working in London, a time period of Ofili s practice, beginning in 1996, in which he shifted from making predominantly abstract paintings with loosely representative elements to pictures that primarily focused on large scale individual figures. In particular, it is one of a number of paintings he made in 1998 and 1999 that depict black women from the chest upwards. No Woman, No Cry(fig 1) is a large, complex layered painting that depicts a crying black woman set in a background amongst various abstract patterns. The black woman is shown in profile wearing blue eye shadow, red lipstick, a string of coloured beads that form a necklace, the jewel of her necklace represented by ball of elephant dung frequently used in Ofili s paintings. A stream of tears falls from her eyes, which all feature in their centre a very small photograph of a boys face. When exhibited, Ofili has also used elephant dung to make two rests on which to display the work while it leans against the gallery wall. • 5. The Rights Of The United States Constitution The United States Constitution was designed to enfranchise the white men who, in 1787, were the only citizens included in John Locke s conception of the social contract (outlined in his Second Treatise of Government). At this time in history, women were not invited to be free and equal, in relation to their husbands and fathers or as citizens in the founding fathers new republic. Therefore, the Constitution never addresses abortion, contraception, or marriage. Arguments made in laws and court cases on these topics, specifically reproductive rights, have therefore traditionally rested on a right to privacy the court has interpreted as being found in the first, fourth, fifth, and fourteenth amendments to the Constitution, rather than a right to freedom from sex based discrimination found in the nineteenth amendment. The landmark supreme court cases Griswold v. Connecticut and Roe v. Wade were both won on these grounds, both setting a precedent for the expansion of the right to privacy. This protection has also been affected by the 2003 Partial Birth Abortion Ban and the Hyde Amendment. First off, in 1965 the supreme court ruled 7 2 in the Griswold v. Connecticut case that the state of Connecticut s ban on contraception was unconstitutional, because it denied a married couple s right to privacy (a right extended to unmarried individuals under the Griswold precedent in the 1972 Eisenstadt v. Baird supreme court case). This expansion of privacy in Griswold later informed Roe v. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. 3rd Grade Bilingual Education Curriculum Over the years data has become a major part of school starting in pre kindergarten. Evaluations happen every day in school. The only thing that make a different is when and what type. Is the evaluation given after instruction daily or just after a unit? Next, what happens with the data from the evaluation? Are the standards retaught or is it just time to move to the next unit? Being a teacher it is baffling how you can teach a whole lesson and only half if that many of your students understood. The concerning point is that you re not only responsible for the half that understand. You are also responsible for the half that didn t understand. After teaching for so many years now I have noticed there is not a perfect class. With knowing this when teachers receive bad test results on an assessment they should ask their selves the same questions. Why do they not understand and what can I do differently? • 7. Interpretation Of The Romantic Imagination In Samuel... The whole idea of the romantic imagination tends to be subject to various interpretations, mainly due to the fact that the perception of romantic artists is constantly changing. In Samuel Taylor Coleridge s era, the role of the poet was there to showcase the endless possibilities and beauty that had been previously housed through heritage and convention, as well as bring forth truth in his or her work. Due to this upgraded form of expression in literature, as well as in regards to poetic composition, the imagination became a primary focus point. This topic allowed poets such as Coleridge to see beyond the surface of what they tried to convey, beyond rationality and reason, to create the ideology of a world within one already existing. He, in particular, believed that they key element for that of poetic composition was simply down to the employment and exploration of imagination. The formulation of fresh creative ideas which strives to push the boundaries beyond any form of comprehension, was something Coleridge believed to be a necessity in the birth of a good poetic verse as well as one s own expression of individualism. Coleridge s poetry in regards to the romantic imagination can be perceived in a multitude of ways. This reasoning is due to the reader s own interpretation of the topic, which understandably varies from person to person. Therefore, the focal point of this essay will be based around my own analysis of Coleridge s take on the imagination. This account on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What makes its ejection all the more debilitating is its extensive magma store. The Ottomans influenced from 1299 1922 CE while the Safavid Empire influenced from 1501 1736 CE. At the height of the Safavid Empire, the Safavids controlled a vast amount of territory that stretched from parts of Turkey to Uzbekistan. The Ottoman Empire, at their height, controlled most of Southeast Europe, parts of Central Europe, Western Asia, parts of Eastern Europe and the Caucasus, North Africa, and the Horn of Africa. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reason why the Safavids and Ottomans were neither allies nor trading partners, was the difference in the sect of Islam each Empire worshiped. The Ottomans worshiped Sunni Islam while the Safavids worshiped Shi a Islam. The main difference between Sunni Islam and Shi a Islam is who each group thought should lead the Muslim community after the death of their prophet, Muhammad. Sunnis believe that Muhammad chose Abu Bakr to proceed him and Shias believe that Muhammad chose Ali to lead after him. Abu Bakr was Muhammad s father in law and companion who was the first person to become Muslim outside of Muhammad s blood relatives. Ali was Muhammad s cousin and son in law. This dispute over who should rule divided the two groups and made them enemies. Since the Safavids main religion was Shi a Islam and the Ottomans was Sunni, there was a guaranteed conflict between them. Although this is not necessarily true, in reality the religious difference does lead to conflict. In 1501, when Shah Isma il was coronated, generations of brutal warfare started between the two Empires. This warfare started for multiple reasons, but the biggest reason is because of religion. The Safavids, being Shi a Muslims, did not tolerate any other religions, or different sects of religions, especially not Sunni Muslims. This obviously caused the Safavids to form a hatred for the Ottomans. The Ottomans believed that the Safavids represented a negation of the religious and political foundations of their Empire, which therefore meant that the Safavids needed to be exterminated. • 10. The Electric Car In 10 years, it is believed that the electric car will slowly start to push the gasoline/petrol vehicle to the curb, and it will do it with style and swagger. In this ever growing age of technology and advancement, more and more people are either looking very seriously into or have already transitioned from ICE (internal combustion engine) vehicles. The transition is seemingly a slow one for the majority of the public and although it is understandable, it is also inevitable. Combustion engine vehicles have been around for over a century and have dominated the car industry greatly. The reliance on ICE engines can be visible in any direction someone turns, walking through the streets of any city. The mindset that ICE rules, and is the only efficient and viable method of transportation is slowly being replaced by the ever decreasing well of fossil fuels and oil on earth. Oil has been the spine of the Earth and the gasoline car, it s pumping heart. There are many reasons that more and more people are turning to electric. Some of the advantages are: Higher efficiency by as much as 400 to 600 percent over an internal combustion engine No polluting byproducts because this car gets its power from batteries, the wind or the sun Three times as efficient as gas engines Is extremely safe Gets better mileage than any other car on the road Quiet to drive Convenient Durable Although everyone has his or her personal motivations to owning and driving electric, some ... • 12. Importance Of Public Speaking Speech Before I started taking UMUC SPCH 100, I never encountered a situation where I had to use public speaking skills at all. Just the thought of having to speak in front of a class as a requirement made me nervous. But that wasn t the only challenge I was facing mentally. Since I never had any public speaking experience before, things such as body language, tone, eye contact, etc. were easily forgotten since my last speech class over five years ago. All of that was easily spotted in the process of making my self introduction video when I kept deciding to do retakes repeatedly. In the end, I managed to produce a product that would keep me from failing but it was nothing that I could be proud of. When it came time for the second speech to be due I was relieved almost that it would be another prerecorded session. I thought about how I could have sort of cheat the fundamentals of public speaking by just doing retakes any time I messed up. But my luck ran out when it was changed to an in class project where we would use our peers as an interview partner. I was glad that we have been doing a few impromptu speeches up to this point. Without any sort of warm up beforehand it would have been a far worse speech than it already was. After interviewing my partner, I thought I had compiled enough information but I failed to transition it to a well organized speech. Breeden sought to bring the internal audit department; the CFO and the finance team together in the same physical location where they were previously geographically separate. President Bill Clinton signed the FMLA into law on February 5, 1993 in his first term as President of the United States. President Clinton wanted the FMLA to balance the demands of the workplace with the needs of families. The FMLA requires employers to provide their employee s job protection and unpaid leave to its employees for qualifying medical and family reasons. He is still very much alive in the past, so it is very silly for people to cry at his funeral (Vonnegut, 26). Billy accepts this belief and it works for a while, when describing Derby s death Billy says, Everyday was beautiful and nothing hurt (Vonnegut, 122). • 19. European And Native American Beliefs The history of Native American religion is influenced by exposure to Europeans, the beliefs of different tribes, and traditions that were passed down orally. When the Europeans came to America they impacted the Native American religions in many different ways. The Native Americans had to adapt to Europeans, but they also kept to their original ways. Even before the adaptations, the Native Americans and Europeans had similarities including: believing one god and one main evil spirit, believing in an afterlife, and they both believed in the immortality of the soul. Even though the Natives believed in one god, Master Spirit , unlike the Europeans, they believed that the god could assume a variety of forms and both genders; Native Americans also believed in many lesser spirits. Other differences were that Natives passed their beliefs down verbally instead of documenting everything in a book or books. As a result of exposure to Europeans, Native American traditions gradually intermixed with Christian beliefs. One example of the influence of Christianity on Native American rituals is the adaptations to the Sun Dance. Before the Sun Dance was primarily practiced in the Upper Plains and the Rocky Mountains and performed at the summer solstice. The dance was often practiced differently for each tribe, but the Eagle, helping bring body and spirit in harmony, is an important symbol for all tribes. Aristotle lays down groundwork of a tragic hero as being essentially good. They are neither villain nor saint because they have flaws. Several elememts are nevcesary to have a tragic hero, they are the tragic flaw, the reversal, recognition, and hubris. These generally make up the story of the tragic hero, and in the case of Jocasta, the wife and mother of Oedipus in Sophocles Oedipus the King, she posses all three. She respects the gods, but not the oracles. She tries to lead Oedipus to adopt this standpoint as well, telling him of the prophecy told to Laius and herself, and how that prophecy did not come to pass. After telling Oedipus that he need not worry about the words of a prophet she tells him, Whatever the god needs and seeks he ll bring to light himself, with ease. (Sophocles line 799 800). Later she goes to Apollo s temple and asks for his guidance, saying that they are in the grip of fear, beseeching his help for Oedipus and saying, I come with prayers and offerings...I beg you, cleanse us, set us free of defilement! Her disbelief in them is sound, and she maintains her belief in the gods. In this way it is hubris, her overwhelming pride or belief that she thwarted the earlier prophecy. • 21. 132 People In Jail Essay When jails and prisons are built, like other buildings, they come with an occupancy limit for good reason. This is for the well being of everyone in the building, but also, should there be an emergency and the building needs to be evacuated, everyone will be able to get out quickly and safely. If a building is overcrowded, there is a chance that with there being so many extra people in the building, that some people might get trampled, or trapped in the building. When it comes to jails, the number of people allowed to be in them is important because that accounts for the number of beds that are in the jail, as well as the number of resources in the jail for each person to live seemingly comfortable. Having an extra 132 people in a jail that was originally built to only hold 332 is very excessive and cannot be comfortable for anyone in it, nor is it safe for some inmates. Those who suffer from being mentally ill probably face the most issues with it. Being in jail is already the wrong place for anybody with a mental illness to be, but to be there and not have any personal space may trigger some people to act out, especially if that is not something that are used to. Jails are also expected to do more than just house the individuals who have been sentenced there, they are expected to provide some form of rehabilitation to the inmates, with hopes that they will not recidivate and return to prison once they have been released. The writer, Theissen, truly engages the reader to really look at things in a more logical manner by painting a scenario of what life might have been like when Jesus walked among us. His use of descriptive language to describe locations and atmospheres, allows the reader to vividly recreate and see these images and feel as though you have traveled back in time. The book is written in a narrative format, which suits me well because it gives you more of a personal feel to it. You almost feel guilty reading the sometimes lowly thoughts of Andreas, the main character in the story. Theissen is very knowledgeable in his Bible history and he displays it well throughout the book. He speaks about many episodes in Jesus life that we know to be true based on the Bible, and he interweaves them with his own fictitious character s storyline. This really gives the reader a sense of what someone might have seen, heard and thought about Jesus during that timeframe, and it gives the reader a better chance to relate emotions with biblical history. Although the book is fictitious in nature, Theissen does a great job at elaborating how it might have been back in time for someone to become a new follower of Christ. He highlighted the many questions they may have faced not only on a personal basis, but on a public one as well. What makes the book ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There is not universal coverage throughout the world, and some individuals have the access and coverage vital to their wellbeing. In the last decade, healthcare cost have been rising at a steady rate on a worldly scale. Numerous industrialized and developed countries are being exposed to a steady fluctuation within the structure of the system, and the question on how to control and prevent further increases has yet to be solved. These malfunctions, which are caused either by the surplus (as in HD) or absence (as in PD) of hormones, are a direct result of neural cell deterioration within the brain. PD and HD illustrate two very different behavioral patterns that are subsequently caused by two opposite and extreme biological abnormalities. Yet the common thread between the two conditions is that there are major mechanical predicaments arising between cellular connections within the brain. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Information from the nigra cells passes through the synapses with the aid of a specific hormone, dopamine, which is a significant chemical transmitter in the brain. Because the existence of dopamine is essential to the function of the substania nigra, it is also essential for the various muscular activities controlled by the striatum, such as walking, balance, etc. (16). In Parkinson s Disease and Huntington s disease the nigra striatum neural communication assemblage is severely hampered. PD results from a depletion in the amount of dopamine produced by the brain. At the onset of the disease, dopamine secreting cells of the substania nigra, either because of genetic factors or environmental toxins, experience mass cell death. Thus, the nigra cells are unable to form synapses through which they secrete and relay dopamine to the striatum in a neural circuit within the basal ganglia (18). HD, in contrast, is not a condition offset by the environment, as PD is thought to be. It is indeed a condition due to cell death in the brain (basal ganglia) but is caused by an abnormal gene that codes for a mutant protein called huntingtin. Huntingtin, thus, interferes with normal brain cell functions by causing a depletion in neural cellular energy and neural death (12)(9). Another example of how HD can be described as being the opposite condition to PD, has to do with both behavioral and biological symptoms of the neurodegenerative ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
