Homeless Youth And Lgbt Youth
Introduction
The Palette Fund, True Colors Fund, and the Williams Institute joined forces in conducting a web
based survey from October 2011 through March 2012 designed to assess the experiences of
homeless youth organizations in providing services to LGBT youth. The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual,
and Transgender (LGBT) Homeless Youth Provider Survey also assessed the prevalence of LGBT
youth within the homeless populations being served by these organizations. According to their
findings, as many as 40 percent of homeless youth identify as LGBT. The most common reason
found to have caused homelessness amongst LGBT youth was family rejection after coming out.
The next most common reason for LGBT youth homelessness was being forced out of their homes
by their family as a result of coming out. It is often difficult for parents that are just learning that
their child identifies as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender to process the news and adjust
smoothly. If more parents sought guidance in how to adjust to their son or daughter coming out,
then perhaps the number of homeless LGBT youth would plummet.
As society evolves, so do views about being part of the LGBT community. People have begun to
slowly begin to acknowledge that there are many diverse ways to live, which happens to be one of
the characteristics of post modernism, and therapists are now talking about different ways to help
those families with members who identify as LGBT. Although coming out is still not something

The Skin Color Of Drugs
Berthony Pierre

Drugs and Society
Professor Lageson
The Skin Color of Drugs The first slaves came to the United States in 1619. During this period
there have literally been a few scattered decades in which African Americans had a fairly decent
shot at entering the mainstream society. Especially black males are targets for abuse by the security
system, drug wars, killing and lack of opportunity for employment (Noam Chomsky). The war on
drugs has been congruous with tossing African Americans in jail. Various statistics demonstrate the
racial discrimination that the drug war has generated. These massive private prisons are being
built at an accelerated rate to house numerous of minorities for simple drug possessions. When
you look at who are using these illegal drugs versus the people who are being incarcerated, a
different picture is being painted. It s not hard to discern that the drug policies that are in place
are a form of social control. They influence a specific type of people and those they affect are
more often than not minorities living in America. Drugs have always been a matter in question in
America and around the world. There are individual countries in the European Union that invest in
treatment programs to aid people who have become dependent on drugs. However in America, the
policies are devised to incarcerate American citizens in a massive scale. The bureau of justice
statistics pulled numbers on the amount of people incarcerated for

A Separate Peace Literary Analysis
History is said to repeat itself after great amounts of time, but could two major world events that
happened just a mere three years from each other be so similar? A Separate Peace, by John
Knowles, chronicles the story of two teenage boys, Finny and Gene, at a private school in New
England during World WarII. Their entire school life is centered around preparing for the war, but
rebellious Finny has other ideas for himself and Gene. Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck
involves two migrant workers during the Dust Bowl and Great Depression who are facing the
struggles of dealing with Lennie s disability. These two books may not seem similar in plot, but
thematically they share several aspects. In both novels, it can be seen that tragic events cause
certain characters to seek a safe place and satisfaction. For instance, Finny, from A Separate Peace,
can be observed looking for a safe place and satisfaction. There are two tragic events that lead to
Finny exemplifying a need of satisfaction from an outside source. The first of which would be
World War II as a whole; and, more specifically within the microcosm that is... Show more content

with being a migrant worker during the Dust Bowl, but he always has a plan for his safe place,
which is either a thicket or his own farm. He is partners with Lennie who is also stressed over
everything in his life so he lets it out by touching objects to get distracted in the sensation of their

The decision to pursue masters in engineering management has not happened suddenly. Over the
past 5 years, several aspects of my studies and work built the passion and interest in the field.
I enjoyed my engineering education in general and did fairly well. However, I particularly excelled
in courses that dealt with management, communications and humanities. The following graph
shows the overall picture.
After my undergraduate studies, I decided to gain expertise in management but I also did not
want to lose my technology edge as I loved both disciplines. I got offers from Accenture (Fortune

Analysis Of Gulliver s Travels
Cameron Aiello
Professor Lund
Final Paper
14 May 2017
Throughout all of Jonathan Swift s writings there are many commonalities. One in particular
that stands out is the use of satire throughout both Gulliver s Travels , which tells the story of a
series of voyages of Lemuel Gulliver s published in 1726, and A Modest Proposal , where Swift
uses the idea of cannibalism to captivate his audience as well as focus on society s problems.
Throughout Swift s life, politics and religion had a huge impact on him and more importantly, his
writing. Many of the satires that Swift uses in his works have to do with politics and the changing
ways of the Catholic church in the 1800 s.
A Modest Proposal written in 1729, was a satire written to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Swift is using this quotation to show that he cares about the poor and struggling people and he
really wants to help them. This is also a different type of writing from Swift, who usually is
always criticizing someone rather than showing empathy for them. But since Swift disagrees
with the English so much, he chooses to write about it and make those with wealth and power
look evil and selfish. Swift who chose not to make it known he was writing this satire, continues
to bash England on page 509 by saying, I fortunately fell upon this proposal; which, as it is
wholly new, so it hath something solid and real, of no expence, and little trouble, full in our own
power; and whereby we can incur no danger in disobliging England: for this kind of commodity
will not bear exportation; the flesh being of too tender a consistence, to admit a long
continuance in salt; although, perhaps, I could name a country, which would be glad to eat up
our whole nation without it . Here, once again Swift shows that England has no problem with
the Irish starving and not being able to survive or make money as long as the rich and powerful
are facing no hardships. Also by using the words eat up he is going back to the idea of
cannibalism, not by the poor but by the wealthy who are taking what is left of the the other nations
to become more powerful and to gain more

Internal And External Factors Of Cultural Diversity
In everyday business life managers are faced with different interpersonal problems in various
business environment situations, like negotiations or just business meetings. These problems can
arouse from various sources. The diversity of different personalities in business environment can
lead to communication problems and misunderstandings. Allport (1961) defines personality as | ...
the dynamic organization within the individual of those psychophysical systems that determine his
characteristics behavior and thoughts. . Literature is considering internal and external influential
and interaction factors regarding personality development. Internal factors nature (innate instincts),
e.g. biology and genetics and external factors nurture (parental influences), e.g. the environment and
culture(Bandura, 1977; Freud 1961).
In this case analysis I will focus on external factors of personality that are shaped by culture. What
does culture mean in social psychological view? Triandis (1994) defined culture as a set of human
made objective (physical elements, like music, art or media) and subjective elements
(psychological processes, like values and beliefs), which increased the probability of survival.

Teachers Practice Through Effective Continuing...
Introduction
It is argued that to achieve educational reform and improve student learning, that the transforming
of teachers practice through effective continuing professional learning is paramount (Hattie, 2003).
Dinham (2012) proposes that quality teaching is vital in terms of equity in allowing all students to
improve their life chances, the processes of supervision and appraisal are crucial in enabling
individuals to undertake self reflective learning that leads to improved teacher practice and better
student outcomes. Jensen (2010) states that improving the quality of Australia s teachers will create
the greatest improvements in student performance, and (provide) consequent economic and social
benefits (p.63). Yet, for many teachers the notion of supervision and appraisal is seen as a
threatening process, and effective leadership is required to bring cultural change that allows these
processes to be empowering in instigating teacher improvement. This response will seek to explore
the usage of the terms supervision and appraisal, deliberate the value of these processes and
describe principles of leadership required to implement them in an effective manner.
Supervision and Appraisal
Before devising a set of principles that might lead to effective implementation of supervision and
appraisal in practice, it is essential to define the terms. Within the literature, it appears that both
supervision and appraisal have been described in a number of different ways. For some

Charter Med Inc. Case Summary
With health care insurance being the most popular business in the United States UnitedHealth

McGuire currently is making $100 million in cash and stock paydays and he still sitting in stock
options valued at 1.6 billion (St. Anthony, 2006). In this he has been given options as rewards
for his success in the company by the board of directors and was allowed to select the date for
his options. This meant that McGuire may have backdated his options granting himself shares
at the lowest price in a given year and in May 11, 2006 UnitedHealth Group issued a statement
saying they were not handling stock options correctly (Lewis, 2006). McGuire in February sold
2.3 million shares at $59 a share when they were optioned to him at $5 a share (Phelps, 2006).
This exercised that he owned 6% of the company but back in November of 2004 he sold shares as
well which amounted to 9% of his share holdings (Business, 2006). Many experts argue that this
type of reward is ethically right because of his performance to the company. But the Securities and
Exchange Commission (SEC) lawyers insist that this type of practice may violate security laws,
because they allow executives to benefit and which not available to other shareholders.
Investigation
The SEC is investigating whether McGuire and the board broke any laws. The investigation is
looking into McGuire and if he was able to pick the dates of some of his option grants to coincide
with lower prices. The Internal Revenue Service has also requested documents from 2003 to

The Issues Of The Refugee Crisis
Introduction
We dream of a united world but reality makes us question this concept throwing at us the stories of
unfortunate people deprived of their basic human rights. Increase in Refugee flows is now the
major concern of contemporary international relations. This essay will first briefly explain the
refugee crisis. Secondly, discusses the different approaches adopted by different countries to
address the issue. Third, the paper aims to discover the various ethical aspects and apply theories to
evaluate and analyse the issue and finally put forward possible solutions.
Background
Refugees are by lawful definition, individuals asserting to have a very much grounded
trepidation of abuse in their nation of source in light of their race, religion, national birthplace,
political feeling, or participation in a specific social gathering (Schuck, 2008). There were
roughly 1.5 million displaced people far and wide in 1951, when the United High Commission
for Refugees (UNHCR) was initially settled developing to 8.2 million by 1980. In 1997, the
UNHCR assessed that there were more than thirteen million exiles universally, speaking to an
expansion of 866 for each penny in 44 years (Loescher 1992; Dupont 1996; Stalker n.d.a). In 2001
and 2002 coinciding with the US wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, number of refugees intensified.

McBride s View of Market Research
Market research is defined as the gathering of information about a market s size and trends
(QuickMBA, 2010). For McBride, the point of conducting market research is to identify good
markets to pursue that the bank is not already pursuing. This research should also help McBride to
determine how these markets compare to the market it already has. The company may find through
the course of this research that its current target market is the best one to target going forward, a
strategy that implies further penetration of the existing market as opposed to opening up new
markets.
McBride should therefore conduct market research using the available demographic information
from the US Census Bureau, and information from its own customer bases. Ideally, the company
would be able to formulate customer profiles of competitors, but this information may be difficult
to obtain. McBride should aim to create a demographic and psychographic profile of its current
customer base, and the same for other potential customer bases. Differences between McBride s
existing customers and the general population of the area in which McBride operates can highlight
some potential markets, in terms of demographics, income levels, education, banking behavior and
other key variables. The more variables that McBride studies the better, bearing in mind the cost of
acquiring additional information.
The choice of media used in the implementation of McBride s marketing plan should be guided by

Sex Tourism In Thailand Essay
Sex tourism examines the issues that emerge from a sex worker (prostitute) and tourist (farang
/customer) interactions. Sex Tourism is progressively spreading and it is now a worldwide subject
matter that every country can relate to some way or the other. Sex tourism it has been around for
decades and it has grown more widespread. This industry is very well understood by the tourist. It
is not formally publicized; it is rather through informal exchanges, word of mouth and internet, that
the farang gets to know who to see and where to go. In Thailandsex tourism is a main source of
income for many rural families. These families are poor and the fact that the state of the economy
of the country is bad it makes the situation worse. In this analytical essay, I will argue the cause and
origin of prostitutionas a result of the Current economic status in Thailand.
Sex tourism, for the vast majority, conjures up an image of red light districts in places like
Amsterdam and Patpong Bangkok. However, the historical backdrop of sex tourism dates back
to the time of the industrial revolution era (1820s 1840s). During the Vietnam war, a large
number of U.S soldiers were involved in the boom of the brothels industry and organized

The next day swallow visited the harbor and at night he came to the prince and the prince again
requested him to stay for one night more as he could see a little match girl weeping because of
lost of matches. The swallow said that he could not stay because here is too cold but he agreed
to do so. Happy prince said the swallow to give his other eye sapphire to her. Swallow did not
want to do it but prince ordered to do so. So he plucked the sapphire and gave it to her. Then he
returned and told the prince that he will live with him always. Next day she told the prince the
stories what he has seen in strange lands. The prince said the swallow that he is covered with
fine gold so take of the gold and give it to poor. The swallowed took of the gold and gave it to the
poor. Then the snow came and swallow became colder and feeble. And at last he knew that he
was going to die he said the prince good bye. He replied that he was happy that he is going to
Egypt at last but swallow said that he is not going to Egypt he is going to the house of death. He
kissed on his lips and fell down dead at his feet. At the same time a loud shriek was heard the
reason was that the leaden heart of prince was broken into two pieces. The next day the mayor of
the city came he saw the statue and ordered to bring the statue to furnace to be melted and build his

Religious Beliefs And The Bible
Religious beliefs have been around for almost as long as man himself, emphasizing the importance
of existential meaning. These beliefs hold very important values that are often neglected by many.
Almost every religion teaches the overall importance of morality, defining the need for one to
protect themselves and others from the dangers that are present in the world. However, many
religions have conflicting views on the ideals that are not related to morality. For example, Judaism
teaches that the Messiah, or Son of God, has yet to arrive on Earth, while Christianityteaches that
the Messiah had already appeared as Jesus Christ, and they are awaiting the Second Coming. This
is a very contradictory aspect of either faith, and would be expected to cause much rage between the
two faiths. Yet, this anger has been subsided through the very similar teachings of both religions.
Both Judaism and Christianity have sacred text known as the Ten Commandments, which are
religious laws emphasizing the importance of morality and, of course, faith. Through this book, I
will be identifying the various world religions and ideals, from Judaism to Hinduism to Satanism,
and expanding upon the various factors that make these religions unique. These factors include,
what each religionhas to offer, what the differences are among religions, and what each teaches.
However, the primary focus of this book is to emphasize that the continuing arguments among
religious groups are absolutely unnecessary,

The Roman And Greek Political Systems
The Roman and Greek political systems have influenced the governments across the globe today,
and have even introduced political words such as democracy, monarchy, and tyranny. However,
Rome was influenced by the Greek, they introduced a republic view seen today then the democracy
of Greek city states. During the time of these two civilizations, they held many overlapping
similarities, and other times showing the vast difference between the related civilizations such as
the location of each city state, how much power a women had, and the separation of the groups in
each political system. The city state system highly effected the growing political parties of each
civilization s development. Greek city states were surrounded on a peninsula by mountains and
islands. This separated them from one another, and created different political systems. Due to
forming independently they clashed with other independent city states examples being that of
Athens and Sparta. Sparta was a very strict city state that had an aristocratic rule and high focus on
military. Yet, Athens being a widely accepting community showed a connection between Rome,
they were more of a democracythan any other political system. Rome had more room to grow
continentally, unlike the smaller city states of Grease, this civilization formed as one big city state
that soon evolved into the Roman Republic and conquered others and even offered citizenship to
the conquered minorities afterwards. Roman political

What Makes A Person Whole And Morally Sound
Virtues are what make a person whole and morally sound, they are the good that can come from
behavior or result from something (Dictionary.com). Romans believed that these were what a
mortals life was based off of. The Aeneid Virgil includes many of the virtues that the Romans value,
one being magnitudo animi. Magnitudo animi translates to greatness of the soul. This greatness of
the soul is what a person has from the inside and makes them deal with the hardest decisions or the
easiest. They persevere and in the end come out great. One person or demi god that represents
magnitudo animi is Aenas from The Aeneid. Aenas deals with his struggles and remembers what it
means to have this virtue and is the best example of this. In The Aeneid it goes through the story of
Aeneasand Dido. Aeneas deals with his journey to find Rome due to his destiny and in the course
of this meets Dido, the Queen of Carthage (Line 15 16 Virgil). Dido is so infatuated when she
first sees Aeneas that she instantly wants to break her vow to her dead husband of never being
with another man; I recognize the signs of the old flame, of old desire. But O chaste life, before
I break your laws, I pray that earth may open, gape for me.... (Line 31 34 Virgil). After Dido
prayed to the gods and got their permission. The gods heard her wish and Juno along with Venus
planed the event of the two becoming one; Plan hunting in the forest...while beaters in excitement

Adapting to a Long Term Care Facility Essay
The character Dorothy said in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, there is no place like home (Baum,
1960, p. 45). Sadly, many of our elderly live in Long Term Care Facilities (LTCF). The transition
from living in their own homes, to living in a LTCF, can be a traumatic experience. Poor
adaptation to a LTCF may cause depression, malnutrition and significantly reduce the lifespan of
the elder. Thus, it is imperative, that nurse s recognize this promptly. According to Agnes and
Guralnik (2008) adaptation is a gradual change in behavior to conform to the prevailing cultural
pattern (p. 15). When elders are placed in a LTCF, whether it be voluntarily or involuntarily, they
must give up certain liberties that are taken for granted. This... Show more content on

160). She goes on to say that adaptation to a LTCF is the process by which someone copes with
the transition into the life of being a LTCF client (p.159). How the elders view their situation
also plays a major role on their adaptation to the LTCF. When someone views the environment in
an absolute negative way, they are going to struggle to become adapted. On the other hand, if
they look at the positives of the environment they may adapt more appropriately. According to
Sister Callista Roy s theory, adaptation is the process and outcome of individuals and groups,
who use conscious awareness, self reflection and choice to create human and environmental
integration (Bergland and Kirkevold, 2006, p.686). This theory lends to adaptation of living in a
LTCF by examining a key issue, the elders choice. With personal experience in this matter, it
seems as if elders who make the decision of moving into a LTCF better adapt to the environment.
In my opinion, a lot of how elders adapt to living in a LTCF depends on the choices they make. If
they sit around, and think poor pitiful me, they will have a much harder time adapting to their new
environment. If the elder becomes engaged in their new environment, they will adapt more
efficiently. As Parker (2013) mentioned, she stays heavily involved in activities that the LTCF
provides, but also performs a multitude of other activities in her apartment

Human Sacrifice In Ancient Egyptian Culture
Human sacrifice Yizhuo Chen 12/21/2016
Human sacrifice is an important matter and human behavior in prehistory in the evolution of
ancient civilization. It is the act of killing human. Usually human sacrifice comes with deity as a
ritual activity. Throughout history, human sacrifice has been practiced in diverse cultures and
different civilizations. As far as I know, there are some bizarre methods of human sacrificein
history.
In Ancient Egypt, pharaohs had the highest positions in Egyptian society not only in religion but
also in politics. In early pharaonic civilization, as long as pharaohs deceased, pharaohs were buried
with their servants and retainers. This behavior is cruel and violent because servants and retainers
were still alive when they were buried. All the people in Ancient Egypt had a common view with
the belief that servants and retainers still could serve their owner after they had been dead. There
are evidences show that servants and retainers were forced to take some drugs which can make
them in a drug induced state. So they were just walking into the tomb without revolt [1][2].
In the low land Yucatec Maya especially in Chichen Itza, there are some natural limestone pits and
sinkholes which were called cenotes. Archaeologists have already found human remains in these
areas. Cenotes were called virgin water that were places of Maya human sacrifice. Ball game was

Thesis Statement On Capitalism And Capitalism
Introduction
Socialism and capitalism are two concepts that are used by governments in respective countries
regarding how the economies operate. The two concepts are based on political, economic and
social systems. The United States of America is an example of a capitalist country while Sweden is
a socialist nation. Apart from the similarity in which the government plays a role in the
effectiveness of the two systems, there is no discrimination in both systems regarding race, color or
other arbitrary classification. There are notable differences between the two systems based on
ownership structure, equity, and employment.

Synthesis Essay In the book A History of the World in Six Glasses by Tom Standage it is
explained how the Mesopotamians saw beer and bread as a way to distinguish those who are
civilized and those who are savages. Standage explains how beer had a great role if the
Mesopotamian culture and how in many cases it was told in their stories and legends. The
Egyptians were not far off the infatuation with beer either. The Egyptians also cherished beer
greatly and was a great deal of importance to them especially because it was used as an offering to
their gods. In both cases beer holds an important value to both societies. Tom Standage explains
the similarities between the Mesopotamian and Egyptian views and values of beer, and how it
affected their religion and culture. Tom Standage describes how beer was greatly engraved in
both Mesopotamian and Egyptian culture. Standage explains that in Egyptian culture the
phrases to make a beer hall and to sit in the beer hall were very popular expressions that meant to
have a good time It is explained how beer was a staple food which was necessary in order to
complete a beer. This especially came true with the Mesopotamians. The expression pouring of
beer meant the Mesopotamians were about to have a banquet or celebratory feast and this was
usually in regards to formal visits by the king. Beer was a universal drink in both cultures. Notice
how in every one of the Egyptian and Mesopotamian expressions the involvement of beer is

Essay about John Gotti
John Gotti If ever there was an incubator for crime it was the Italian Harlem tenements of the South
Bronx. In one of those crowded dirty apartments, a young John Gotti seeked an impoverished
existence with his parents and eleven sisters and brothers. His father rarely worked and then, only
at menial jobs, risking the money that the family did have on gambling.
Eventually the family moved to central Brooklyn, which was known as East New York. In East

With both Fatico and Dellacroce in the slammer, John Gotti was handed a lot of new
responsibilities. For one thing, he gained incredible visibility by reporting directly to Carlo Gambino
while Fatico was in jail. Before that opportunity, Carlo did not particularly value Gotti s crowd in
Ozone Park. To the sophisticated Carlo, they were just a bunch of hotheaded thugs. This was a
chance for Gotti to show himself in a different light.
Gotti brought home to the Ozone Park crowd Carlo s prohibition on drug dealing. But the
warnings fell on deaf ears. Many of the men very close to Gotti were dealing and using heroin and
cocaine. But Gotti kept the faith by warning them: If you re dealin, you re f..kin playin with fire,

Angelo was arrested first and later, the police also arrested Gotti for the murder.

of other brilliant people such as famed author Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, actor Wesley Snipes,

Palm Coast police recently investigated a complaint and found a man at the scene whom they

A Lee County teacher was found guilty of DUI after driving his truck into a ditch with an elevated

In Act 3 Scene 2 of Shakespeare s Play Julius Caesar ,...
I have studied Julius Caesar a play written by William Shakespeare. I focused the study on act 3
scene 2 the speeches by Brutus and Antony. I am looking at the persuasive techniques used by the
two speakers and why Antony s speech won over the crowd.
Julius Caesar has been an influential figure in history for 2000 years. Caesar was such a powerful,
heroic leader with his death a devastating civil war ensued.
Julius Caesar is so influential decisions made today in the present day idolise him like Kaiser of
Germany, Tsar of Russia and caesarean births. Julius Caesar s story shows a relationship with
modern day stories of deceit and tragedy with such a twisting and famous plot modern audiences
are still drawn to it.

Antony then tells the crowd that Caesar was not perfect and that he had made many mistakes, The
evil that men do lives after them this is like admitting Brutus is right about that but only that.
He then begins his attacks on Brutus speech; he manages to tackle Brutus points on why Caesar
should die. The first point he attacked was Brutus opinion of Caesar s ambition, Antony argues that
Caesar wasn t ambitious, I thrice presented him with a kingly crown, which he did thrice refuse,
This is a reasons that proved Brutus s main point incorrect.
The question Antony asked, Is this ambition? , is an obvious rhetorical question which makes the
crowd really think that what he s saying is obvious he also talks about Brutus being honourable at
the same time, this has an effect of causing the crowd to believe Brutus is lying and maybe
everything he has said may be questionable.
Antony then showed the bloody body of Julius Caesar. Antony identified each slice; and named
the man who did it. He made the gashes seem cowardly and pathetic like an attack from behind.
He shows the cut Brutus made and says how dearly Caesar loved him. This was the most
unkindest cut of all to emphasise that Brutus didn t really like Caesar at all, so Brutus must be
lying. He says most before unkindest but the word unkindest already has most in it represented as

Summary Of Romanticism In The Sandman
The Romantic movement throughout Europe was in response to the rationalism and Enlightenment
movement of the 18th century. This time period was seen as a Segway between two time periods,
the Enlightenment and the Romantic movement, creating a conflict between cultures. Whereas
most of Europe was transitioning into a time of Romanticism, German culture didn t accept the
movement until later 1790 s, due to the thought that it was undermining the national identity. It
wasn t until a new generation decided to break away from established tendencies in the culture and
focus on the unique experiences of the individual. Goethe previously encourages the movement in
the development of the Faust figure which in many ways reflects change and Romanticism. The
new modern age of the Romantics distrusted the Enlightenment views of reason as the supreme
guiding force of human action and they sensed a new age was dawning. As these cultural
conflicts arose, the publication of The Sandman came out, illustrating characteristics that
advocated for the Romantic era ideals, while also contrasting rational views. Within the story of
The Sandman and as well as in his other novels and stories, E.T Hoffman depicts a duality
between dream and reality, as it is a motif for his own life. Hoffman insists of there being an
irreducible heterogeneity and dualism between the two realms of what is reality and what is a
dream, which is seen through the dispute between Clara and Nathanael in The Sandman. Within
this publication, Hoffman begins with a dispute between Clara and Nathanael regarding the death
of his father. It then transitions into letter that were written between that of Nathanael, Clara, and
Clara s brother Lothar. In one of the letters, Clara exemplifies her rational, clear headed
personality leading Nathanael to believe that his recollections were mere childhood fantasies and
that all the horrors in which he recalls exist only in his own mind. Some of these horrors are
depicted in the first letter written by Nathanael to Lothar who as stated, is Clara s brother. Within
this letter, Nathanael tells a story about a horrific story engrained in his mind from an incident
earlier on in his childhood, where he was

Rapid Modernisation Of Armed Forces
There are a variety of reasons for the rapid modernisation of armed forces in the Southeast Asia
region interstate and regional tensions exist within Southeast Asia and interactive military
programmes have developed as a result, and there has been a rapid build up of military capabilities.
Additionally, there has been advances in technology, creating a need for states to modernise their
armed forces to be able to compete and military advancement in the region has contributed to the
security dilemma in Southeast Asia, leading to further arms build up. Most importantly, there is
evidence of the beginnings of an arms race in Southeast Asia, which also explains the modernisation
of armed forces. Thus, the reasons for the rapid modernisation of armed forces in the Southeast Asia
region are the consequences of interstate and regional tensions, technological advancement, the
growing security dilemma and the beginning of an arms race.
Interstate and Regional Tensions
Throughout Southeast Asia, there are a number of relationships between state actors that are
marked by mutual distrust, and these bilateral relationships fuel the arms race within Asia due to
security concerns. These distrustful relationships between nations have their root causes in
historical animosities, racial and religious divisions or competition for influence and resources
(Richardson 1990: 24). Problematic relations in the region include, and are not limited to: North
and South Korea, Taiwan and China,

Minerva and bring them victory among the war with Greece. A priestess not believing the man
decides to try to puncture it with a spear. From this action Laocoon and his two sons are soon eaten
by two serpents that have come from the ocean. The serpents then slither to the Minerva shrine.
Thus, giving the trojans enough evidence to bring in the horse. By Bringing Minerva into the lie of
the gift, they ultimately started the destruction of Troy. Minerva influenced these men to accept
this gift and ultimately brings Troy s down fall and brings Aeneas to flee with his family. This
woman influenced the beginning of Aeneas s travels and the eventual discovery of Rome. In the
beginning of our story we are introduced to

Safe Riding Research Paper
Safe riding is more demanding than driving a car. Motorists have a hard time seeing motorcycles
because of their smaller size and profile. Defensive riding requires that you assume other vehicles
don t see you. In addition, you must quickly spot and deal with road debris and pavement defects
that may cause a fall. This demands good riding skills and quick reaction speed. But riding skill and
reaction time aren t enough without a good situational awareness, and this isn t possible without
sharp vision.
As a prescription glasses wearer, you understand that riding without some means of correcting your
vision is out of the question. In addition, you may know that your street prescription glasses lack
sufficient impact resistance for protecting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, you should never overlook the frames. High impact resistant lenses won t help if they
pop out of the frames when struck by a pebble while riding 65 mph on the interstate. Durability is
important as well. You don t want a brittle material or one that readily bends such as some of the
metals used for street glasses.
The material must retain its shape yet have some flexibility so that it can hold up to the stresses
of travel. If you happen to place the glasses in a pocket, that shouldn t cause frame damage or a
lens to pop out. Nylon is well suited for prescription motorcycle glasses. It s strong, tough, flexible,
and has a good tolerance for heat and cold. Nylon frames also come in a wide variety of colors and
designs.
Proper Fit
Another reason street prescription glasses are a bad choice for motorcycling is their fit.
Motorcycle glasses shouldn t slide down your nose, cause pain when worn with a helmet, fall off,
or allow sunlight in between your eyebrow and the top of the glasses. The nose piece should feel
comfortable, not leave pinch marks, and hold the glasses in place. An adjustable nose piece may be

Forest Kindergarten Case Study
Forest Kindergarten is a way in which to gain opportunities and build skills that children are not
going to get in a playground in a school. Forest Kindergarten has shown that children are less
stressed, have better concentration, less chance of being ill and gaining better motor skills. Within
20 years of Forest Kindergarten starting in Denmark, the amount of Forest Kindergarten has
doubled.
The factors from Forest Kindergarten that I found challenging was that there are no basis of health
and safety. Also, the Pedagogue says that the children must use their brains and that they should be
able to look after themselves. I found this hard as it is our responsibility to look after all children.
Furthermore, I do feel this is a weakness of the Forest Kindergarten as they should protect their
students within the kindergarten. The implications based for the ... Show more content on

However, I do feel that this is an impressive way in which to have education before starting primary
school. This is because the children are unaware that they are becoming responsible for their own
learning. The children have the freedom to climb trees, understand how to use a knife safely and
obey rules when going near areas where they are not allowed. I do feel that it really does benefit
the child, as they are able to start primary school with basic knowledge and understanding. Relating
to my placement to the Forest Kindergarten is that there are no links between the two. The
differences between my placement and the Forest Kindergarten is that within my job role I have a
responsibility in which to look after all my students. Also, it is known as wrapping my students in
cotton wool to make sure they do not hurt or injury themselves. Whereas, this is the total opposite
to Forest Kindergarten where there are no health and safety and no regulations, as the children can

Bubble Film Summary
This study focuses on the structure, conduct, and performance of Magnolia pictures and its
associates. We begin by examining three films that were produced by Magnolia Pictures and
released in day and date strategy. Magnolia began the day and date release format in 2006 with
Bubble. Bubble is the first of the three films we will be examining, followed by Melancholia
(2011) and Whitey: United States of America V. James J. Bulger (2014). With each film we will
look at aspects of conduct release format strategies, and performance how did the film fare on the
market. Evidence from Bubble, Melancholia, and Whitey will be used to look at how the structure
of the trio and Cuban allow for the conduct and performance. For each film we will explore... Show

Another factor that boosted the perceived value of the film was Soderbergh himself. He is a
well known director who has directed all of the Ocean s Eleven movies, Traffic , in addition to
many other films and TV shows. While the cast of Bubble were completely unknown, ametures

of February of 2005. These numbers, while showing some interest in the spectacle that began

The Subculture Of Board Game
People have always develop ways to pass time or enjoy their everyday activates. There have been
puzzles, books, and television invented to help with this process. The need to have something to
do has fueled the creation of games. The most popular games today are videogames which have
millions of people logging on each day to play with others. Videogames have created a culture of
their own, but they were not the original type of gaming recreation. Board games have been
bringing their played into fantasy worlds long before the popularization of videogames. This has
spark my interest to understand the subculture of board gameplayers in today s society. I have
selected a local board gaming site to conduct my field research for my ethnographic study. My
primary location or this research will be at Tucson Games and Gadgets where I will try to
minimize any preconceptions I may currently have, and utilize key informants to get an overall
picture of the culture. First I had to choose the best location from various gaming locations in the
Tucson area.
Tucson Games and Gadgets was clearly the most viable option to choose after I had visited the
location first hand. This location was conveniently located in the heart of Tucson which gives me
great ease of access almost on a daily basis. When first arriving at this location I noticed that the
parking lot was already full. For a Monday evening this was a good sign that this location could
provide enough opportunities to observe many

Second Language Acquisition Essay
Second language acquisition has long been the focus of linguists and researchers in the teaching
field. It highlights the process and theories of acquiring second languages among learners. Second
language acquisition seeks to understand the development of second language acquisition among
second language learners. Mastering the knowledge of second language acquisitionhelps teachers to
successfully provide effective teaching for students. Undeniably, knowledge on second language
acquisition is very much related to effective teaching of second languages. Many linguists and
teacher educators believe that all language teachers should be equipped with knowledge of second
language acquisition to help them teach effectively. Additionally, most teacher training
programmers have incorporated second language acquisition as a compulsory course to make sure
that all future language teachers are well equipped with enough knowledge to teach in classroom.
Then again, the relationship between second language acquisition and effective second language
teaching is still being discussed. Hence, this paper aims to explain ways in which knowledge of
second language acquisition helps language teachers to provide a better and effective second
language teaching in classrooms by highlighting three main ideas; knowledge of second language
acquisition helps teachers to understand the different needs of students, to design a good second
language course and effective teaching method for learners, and to

Essay on The Evolution of Reptiles
There are four main groups of reptiles, known as Crocodilians, Squamates, Tuataras, and Turtles.
Crocodilians consists of large reptiles which includes alligators, crocodiles, gharials, and
caimans. Squamates are lizards, snakes, and worm lizards. A worm lizard is a subterranean
burrowing reptile that resembles an earthworm, a legless lizard. Tuataras are a group of reptiles
that are lizard like in appearance but are different from squamates because their skull isn t jointed.
Turtles are the most ancient reptiles alive today. They have changed very little since they first
showed up 220 million years ago. The first turtle appeared 220 million years ago.(Laura

Amphibians skin is moist and they do not consist of scales. The skin of an amphibian is also
permeable. Permeable means that gases can pass through their skin. A reptiles scales provide
them with a protective layer of skin that is tough and dry. The scales help to minimize the loss of
body moisture, the reptilian scales consists of a protein called keratin. The scale structure of a
reptile are not individual like those of a fish, but are a continuous sheet of epidermal tissue. Hard
shelled eggs provide a protective environment in which the embryo can develop and enables
reptiles to lay their eggs in dry environments. On the other hand, amphibians must lay their eggs in
or near water. The reptilian skeleton differs from other vertebrates in many ways. For example,
reptiles have many bones in their lower jaw to enable them a greater bite mobility, but mammals
only have one bone in their lower jaw called the mandible. Mammals ears consist of three bones(the
malleus, incus, and stapes) while reptiles have just one bone(stapes). Reptiles also have only one
occipital condyle(a protrusion on the skull that forms a joint that enables movement of the head)
mammals on the other hand consist of two occipital condyles (Laura Klappenbach 2014).
Scientists say reptiles evolved from amphibians 340 million years ago. The first reptile was an
insect eater. Reptiles were more adaptable and able to

Rheumatoid Arthritis Case Study Essay
According to the case study, there are findings to suspect that the patient has got rheumatoid
arthritis or not. According to the case study, the woman who is 37 year old gradually developed
painful wrists, and when the pain continued and due to the early morning stiffness which stopped
her from gardening she consulted the doctor. On examination, both wrists and the
metacarpophalangeal joints of both hands were swollen and tender but not deformed and there
were no any nodules or vasculitic lesions.
Even though she was treated with her initial symptoms, her pain, stiffness and swelling of the hands
continued and 1 month later both knees became similarly affected and after six months of the initial
presentation, she developed two subcutaneous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, it can also be diagnosed by performing some other combination of clinical presentations
and some other certain tests in order to find out the exact diagnosis. The first way of diagnosing is
using the characteristic symptoms and signs like joint pain, stiffness and swelling due to synovial
inflammation and effusion and also common symptoms of RA, tenderness, swollen joints, pain,
stiffness, limited motion in joints, loss of appetite, muscle pain and skin nodules (Richa, et al, 2013).
In clinical trials, rheumatoid arthritis is diagnosed formally by using seven American Rheumatism
Association (ARA) criteria. The typical outpatient practice, a definitive diagnosis using these
criteria may be difficult to obtain early in the disease process. During the initial visit, patients
should be asked about degree of pain, duration of stiffness and fatigue, and functional limitations.
A careful joint examination looking for the characteristics described above is vital (Rindfleisch
Muller, 2005) and other diagnostic tests can also be performed. The initial and most simple way of
diagnosing is to take an X ray. This can help the doctor to differentiate RA from

Environmental Justice and Toxic Racism
Environmental Justice and Toxic Racism
Encouraged by diverse foundations from across the globe, The Environmental Justice movement
has become one of the most important topics in the media. Europeans have used Marxist
philosophy on class laddering, while non Western countries required its encouragement in the
criticism of colonialism. In the United States, The Civil Rights Movement was its forerunner. The
notion of Environmental Justice , nevertheless, has its genesis in the resistance of black culture and
lower income communities in opposition to uneven ecological trouble in the United States during
the last few years of the 1970s and the early 1980s. In the framework of racial improvement and
public activism, the phrase was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the first influences on the deliberation on Environmental Justice was The Civil Rights
Movement in the United States of America. Leaders like Martin Luther King, Jr. fought hard to
ensure that social transformation and power be established for African Americans, especially those
in the southern states as well as those in the northern inner city parts. Activists like King altered the
philosophy on Environmental Justice arguing that there was a lopsided effect that proved that
environmental hazards were not accidental. What environmentalists advocated instead was that
environmental dangers resulted from racial segregation that placed power plants, nuclear plants,
and other potential ecological hazards in areas with a high concentration of minority and low
income groups. Several activists defined this as environmental racism. The earliest reference to
environmental racism originated in Warren County, North Carolina, in 1982. A mainly African
American neighborhood rallied to protest the construction of a noxious waste landfill. The
community was well backed with the support of the United Church of Christ. The remonstration
resulted in well over five hundred arrests for civil disobedience. Its impact caused other
explorations in southern communities across of the United States of America. In 1987, The
Commission for Racial Justice of the

Gambling Increase Crime In California
Casinos are a good bet for California Monopolies have no part in an American society that values
free market and private ownership. Yet, California is essentially condoning such a monopoly by
limiting gaming casinos to Native Americans, or at least the wealthier tribes. Times have changed
in the past twenty seven years. Back in 1986, both the County of Riverside and the State of
California was trying to limit the operation of bingo games on Indian land. However, the Appellee
Indian Tribes, the Cabazon and Morongo Bands of Mission Indians, sought relief from these
unwarranted regulations and instituted an action for declaratory relief in Federal District Court,
which entered summary judgment for the Tribes, holding that neither the State... Show more content

The untreated conditions that pathological gamblers have may compound an unfortunate situation.
Not everyone who gambles becomes addictive. However, the casino industry recognizes that some
people have gambling problems and casinos provide help and education for those that do have
problems. All gamblers do not have broken homes or abuse their children. Plenty of broken home
have nothing to do with gambling. Again, there is no imperial evidence that substantiates every
time a hand of cards is lost a child is beaten.
Next, Bingo and lotteries are forms of gambling. Neither makes the effort to help addicts the
way casinos have. According to Beacon Economics (2013), one study found that 1.4 percent of
people in treatment are addicted to bingo (p. 4 5). Beacon s (2013) report went on to say, A
December 2003 Gallup Lifestyle Poll found that two thirds of Americans had gambled in the
previous 12 months. State lotteries were the most common form of gambling (p. 9). To date, I have
yet to see a boycott of lottery tickets outside of Seven Eleven stores, or outside of churches
boycotting bingo games.

  • 2. Homeless Youth And Lgbt Youth Introduction The Palette Fund, True Colors Fund, and the Williams Institute joined forces in conducting a web based survey from October 2011 through March 2012 designed to assess the experiences of homeless youth organizations in providing services to LGBT youth. The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Homeless Youth Provider Survey also assessed the prevalence of LGBT youth within the homeless populations being served by these organizations. According to their findings, as many as 40 percent of homeless youth identify as LGBT. The most common reason found to have caused homelessness amongst LGBT youth was family rejection after coming out. The next most common reason for LGBT youth homelessness was being forced out of their homes by their family as a result of coming out. It is often difficult for parents that are just learning that their child identifies as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender to process the news and adjust smoothly. If more parents sought guidance in how to adjust to their son or daughter coming out, then perhaps the number of homeless LGBT youth would plummet. As society evolves, so do views about being part of the LGBT community. People have begun to slowly begin to acknowledge that there are many diverse ways to live, which happens to be one of the characteristics of post modernism, and therapists are now talking about different ways to help those families with members who identify as LGBT. Although coming out is still not something ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Skin Color Of Drugs Berthony Pierre 12/04/2014 Drugs and Society Professor Lageson The Skin Color of Drugs The first slaves came to the United States in 1619. During this period there have literally been a few scattered decades in which African Americans had a fairly decent shot at entering the mainstream society. Especially black males are targets for abuse by the security system, drug wars, killing and lack of opportunity for employment (Noam Chomsky). The war on drugs has been congruous with tossing African Americans in jail. Various statistics demonstrate the racial discrimination that the drug war has generated. These massive private prisons are being built at an accelerated rate to house numerous of minorities for simple drug possessions. When you look at who are using these illegal drugs versus the people who are being incarcerated, a different picture is being painted. It s not hard to discern that the drug policies that are in place are a form of social control. They influence a specific type of people and those they affect are more often than not minorities living in America. Drugs have always been a matter in question in America and around the world. There are individual countries in the European Union that invest in treatment programs to aid people who have become dependent on drugs. However in America, the policies are devised to incarcerate American citizens in a massive scale. The bureau of justice statistics pulled numbers on the amount of people incarcerated for ... • 8. A Separate Peace Literary Analysis History is said to repeat itself after great amounts of time, but could two major world events that happened just a mere three years from each other be so similar? A Separate Peace, by John Knowles, chronicles the story of two teenage boys, Finny and Gene, at a private school in New England during World WarII. Their entire school life is centered around preparing for the war, but rebellious Finny has other ideas for himself and Gene. Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck involves two migrant workers during the Dust Bowl and Great Depression who are facing the struggles of dealing with Lennie s disability. These two books may not seem similar in plot, but thematically they share several aspects. In both novels, it can be seen that tragic events cause certain characters to seek a safe place and satisfaction. For instance, Finny, from A Separate Peace, can be observed looking for a safe place and satisfaction. There are two tragic events that lead to Finny exemplifying a need of satisfaction from an outside source. The first of which would be World War II as a whole; and, more specifically within the microcosm that is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Over the past 5 years, several aspects of my studies and work built the passion and interest in the field. I enjoyed my engineering education in general and did fairly well. • 11. Analysis Of Gulliver s Travels Cameron Aiello Professor Lund Final Paper 14 May 2017 Throughout all of Jonathan Swift s writings there are many commonalities. One in particular that stands out is the use of satire throughout both Gulliver s Travels , which tells the story of a series of voyages of Lemuel Gulliver s published in 1726, and A Modest Proposal , where Swift uses the idea of cannibalism to captivate his audience as well as focus on society s problems. Throughout Swift s life, politics and religion had a huge impact on him and more importantly, his writing. Many of the satires that Swift uses in his works have to do with politics and the changing ways of the Catholic church in the 1800 s. A Modest Proposal written in 1729, was a satire written to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Swift is using this quotation to show that he cares about the poor and struggling people and he really wants to help them. This is also a different type of writing from Swift, who usually is always criticizing someone rather than showing empathy for them. But since Swift disagrees with the English so much, he chooses to write about it and make those with wealth and power look evil and selfish. Swift who chose not to make it known he was writing this satire, continues to bash England on page 509 by saying, I fortunately fell upon this proposal; which, as it is wholly new, so it hath something solid and real, of no expence, and little trouble, full in our own power; and whereby we can incur no danger in disobliging England: for this kind of commodity will not bear exportation; the flesh being of too tender a consistence, to admit a long continuance in salt; although, perhaps, I could name a country, which would be glad to eat up our whole nation without it . Here, once again Swift shows that England has no problem with the Irish starving and not being able to survive or make money as long as the rich and powerful are facing no hardships. Also by using the words eat up he is going back to the idea of cannibalism, not by the poor but by the wealthy who are taking what is left of the the other nations to become more powerful and to gain more ... Internal And External Factors Of Cultural Diversity In everyday business life managers are faced with different interpersonal problems in various business environment situations, like negotiations or just business meetings. These problems can arouse from various sources. The diversity of different personalities in business environment can lead to communication problems and misunderstandings. Allport (1961) defines personality as | ... the dynamic organization within the individual of those psychophysical systems that determine his characteristics behavior and thoughts. . Literature is considering internal and external influential and interaction factors regarding personality development. Internal factors nature (innate instincts), e.g. biology and genetics and external factors nurture (parental influences), e.g. the environment and culture(Bandura, 1977; Freud 1961). In this case analysis I will focus on external factors of personality that are shaped by culture. What does culture mean in social psychological view? • 14. Teachers Practice Through Effective Continuing... Introduction It is argued that to achieve educational reform and improve student learning, that the transforming of teachers practice through effective continuing professional learning is paramount (Hattie, 2003). Dinham (2012) proposes that quality teaching is vital in terms of equity in allowing all students to improve their life chances, the processes of supervision and appraisal are crucial in enabling individuals to undertake self reflective learning that leads to improved teacher practice and better student outcomes. Jensen (2010) states that improving the quality of Australia s teachers will create the greatest improvements in student performance, and (provide) consequent economic and social benefits (p.63). Yet, for many teachers the notion of supervision and appraisal is seen as a threatening process, and effective leadership is required to bring cultural change that allows these processes to be empowering in instigating teacher improvement. This response will seek to explore the usage of the terms supervision and appraisal, deliberate the value of these processes and describe principles of leadership required to implement them in an effective manner. Supervision and Appraisal Before devising a set of principles that might lead to effective implementation of supervision and appraisal in practice, it is essential to define the terms. In this he has been given options as rewards for his success in the company by the board of directors and was allowed to select the date for his options. This meant that McGuire may have backdated his options granting himself shares at the lowest price in a given year and in May 11, 2006 UnitedHealth Group issued a statement saying they were not handling stock options correctly (Lewis, 2006). McGuire in February sold 2.3 million shares at $59 a share when they were optioned to him at $5 a share (Phelps, 2006). This exercised that he owned 6% of the company but back in November of 2004 he sold shares as well which amounted to 9% of his share holdings (Business, 2006). Secondly, discusses the different approaches adopted by different countries to address the issue. Third, the paper aims to discover the various ethical aspects and apply theories to evaluate and analyse the issue and finally put forward possible solutions. Background Refugees are by lawful definition, individuals asserting to have a very much grounded trepidation of abuse in their nation of source in light of their race, religion, national birthplace, political feeling, or participation in a specific social gathering (Schuck, 2008). For McBride, the point of conducting market research is to identify good markets to pursue that the bank is not already pursuing. This research should also help McBride to determine how these markets compare to the market it already has. The company may find through the course of this research that its current target market is the best one to target going forward, a strategy that implies further penetration of the existing market as opposed to opening up new markets. McBride should therefore conduct market research using the available demographic information from the US Census Bureau, and information from its own customer bases. Ideally, the company would be able to formulate customer profiles of competitors, but this information may be difficult to obtain. McBride should aim to create a demographic and psychographic profile of its current customer base, and the same for other potential customer bases. Differences between McBride s existing customers and the general population of the area in which McBride operates can highlight some potential markets, in terms of demographics, income levels, education, banking behavior and other key variables. • 23. Religious Beliefs And The Bible Religious beliefs have been around for almost as long as man himself, emphasizing the importance of existential meaning. These beliefs hold very important values that are often neglected by many. Almost every religion teaches the overall importance of morality, defining the need for one to protect themselves and others from the dangers that are present in the world. However, many religions have conflicting views on the ideals that are not related to morality. For example, Judaism teaches that the Messiah, or Son of God, has yet to arrive on Earth, while Christianityteaches that the Messiah had already appeared as Jesus Christ, and they are awaiting the Second Coming. This is a very contradictory aspect of either faith, and would be expected to cause much rage between the two faiths. Yet, this anger has been subsided through the very similar teachings of both religions. Both Judaism and Christianity have sacred text known as the Ten Commandments, which are religious laws emphasizing the importance of morality and, of course, faith. Through this book, I will be identifying the various world religions and ideals, from Judaism to Hinduism to Satanism, and expanding upon the various factors that make these religions unique. These factors include, what each religionhas to offer, what the differences are among religions, and what each teaches. However, the primary focus of this book is to emphasize that the continuing arguments among religious groups are absolutely unnecessary, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The city state system highly effected the growing political parties of each civilization s development. Greek city states were surrounded on a peninsula by mountains and islands. This separated them from one another, and created different political systems. Due to forming independently they clashed with other independent city states examples being that of Athens and Sparta. Sparta was a very strict city state that had an aristocratic rule and high focus on military. Yet, Athens being a widely accepting community showed a connection between Rome, they were more of a democracythan any other political system. Sadly, many of our elderly live in Long Term Care Facilities (LTCF). The transition from living in their own homes, to living in a LTCF, can be a traumatic experience. Poor adaptation to a LTCF may cause depression, malnutrition and significantly reduce the lifespan of the elder. Thus, it is imperative, that nurse s recognize this promptly. According to Agnes and Guralnik (2008) adaptation is a gradual change in behavior to conform to the prevailing cultural pattern (p. 15). She goes on to say that adaptation to a LTCF is the process by which someone copes with the transition into the life of being a LTCF client (p.159). How the elders view their situation also plays a major role on their adaptation to the LTCF. When someone views the environment in an absolute negative way, they are going to struggle to become adapted. On the other hand, if they look at the positives of the environment they may adapt more appropriately. According to Sister Callista Roy s theory, adaptation is the process and outcome of individuals and groups, who use conscious awareness, self reflection and choice to create human and environmental integration (Bergland and Kirkevold, 2006, p.686). This theory lends to adaptation of living in a LTCF by examining a key issue, the elders choice. With personal experience in this matter, it seems as if elders who make the decision of moving into a LTCF better adapt to the environment. In my opinion, a lot of how elders adapt to living in a LTCF depends on the choices they make. If they sit around, and think poor pitiful me, they will have a much harder time adapting to their new environment. If the elder becomes engaged in their new environment, they will adapt more efficiently. In early pharaonic civilization, as long as pharaohs deceased, pharaohs were buried with their servants and retainers. This behavior is cruel and violent because servants and retainers were still alive when they were buried. All the people in Ancient Egypt had a common view with the belief that servants and retainers still could serve their owner after they had been dead. Antony then tells the crowd that Caesar was not perfect and that he had made many mistakes, The evil that men do lives after them this is like admitting Brutus is right about that but only that. He then begins his attacks on Brutus speech; he manages to tackle Brutus points on why Caesar should die. The first point he attacked was Brutus opinion of Caesar s ambition, Antony argues that Caesar wasn t ambitious, I thrice presented him with a kingly crown, which he did thrice refuse, This is a reasons that proved Brutus s main point incorrect. The question Antony asked, Is this ambition? , is an obvious rhetorical question which makes the crowd really think that what he s saying is obvious he also talks about Brutus being honourable at the same time, this has an effect of causing the crowd to believe Brutus is lying and maybe everything he has said may be questionable. • 36. Summary Of Romanticism In The Sandman The Romantic movement throughout Europe was in response to the rationalism and Enlightenment movement of the 18th century. This time period was seen as a Segway between two time periods, the Enlightenment and the Romantic movement, creating a conflict between cultures. Whereas most of Europe was transitioning into a time of Romanticism, German culture didn t accept the movement until later 1790 s, due to the thought that it was undermining the national identity. It wasn t until a new generation decided to break away from established tendencies in the culture and focus on the unique experiences of the individual. Goethe previously encourages the movement in the development of the Faust figure which in many ways reflects change and Romanticism. The new modern age of the Romantics distrusted the Enlightenment views of reason as the supreme guiding force of human action and they sensed a new age was dawning. As these cultural conflicts arose, the publication of The Sandman came out, illustrating characteristics that advocated for the Romantic era ideals, while also contrasting rational views. Within the story of The Sandman and as well as in his other novels and stories, E.T Hoffman depicts a duality between dream and reality, as it is a motif for his own life. Hoffman insists of there being an irreducible heterogeneity and dualism between the two realms of what is reality and what is a dream, which is seen through the dispute between Clara and Nathanael in The Sandman. Within this publication, Hoffman begins with a dispute between Clara and Nathanael regarding the death of his father. It then transitions into letter that were written between that of Nathanael, Clara, and Clara s brother Lothar. In one of the letters, Clara exemplifies her rational, clear headed personality leading Nathanael to believe that his recollections were mere childhood fantasies and that all the horrors in which he recalls exist only in his own mind. Some of these horrors are depicted in the first letter written by Nathanael to Lothar who as stated, is Clara s brother. Within this letter, Nathanael tells a story about a horrific story engrained in his mind from an incident earlier on in his childhood, where he was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
