Examples Of Imagery In Babel
I think beneath the surface this story is about the horrors of war and the way people involved become
desensitized to it. In this story, the two horrors of war that stand out the most are poverty and death.
Poverty is largely shown when the main character goes to his assigned living quarters. It is obvious
that the pregnant women and the three Jews are living in poverty based on the description we get of
how they are living. A couple ways death is depicted in the story is with the following lines, the stench
of yesterday s blood and slaughtered horses drips into the evening chill and his gullet has been ripped
out, his face hacked in two, and dark blood is clinging to his beard like a clump of lead. The smell of
yesterday s blood and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We only get the story in the point of view of the father. We don t see the full point of view of the
mother while her baby is tearing out pages. We don t know what she is thinking of the whole matter.
We also don t see the baby s point of view and why it is choosing to tear out pages, despite being
punished. As a reader, this left me with questions. A few questions I was left with were why the baby
was doing this and did it even know what it was doing? Also, why the mother let this punishment
continue for so long? We only know what the father is thinking and how he is handling things with the

Social Media And Political Rap
As circumstances of social inequalities are becoming more prominent in the social media and news
sources, the appearance of political rap is also becoming more prevalent. It s very common to hear
rappers rap about their struggles and injustices, not only with present day artists but also older groups.
For example, N.W.A, Tupac Shakur, Public Enemy, and Nas, who were popular in the late 80 s and
throughout the 90 s, were known for their politically charged music and critiques of the American
media. Present day artists such as Kendrick Lamar and Joey Bada$$, keep this type of music alive and
continue to address inequalities. The ultimate goal of this type of music is to bring attention to the
actions and policies of the government as well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If rap music appears to be excessively violent when compared to country western or popular rock, it is
because rap stems from a culture that has been seeped in the fight against political, social, and
economic oppression. Despite the theatrics sometimes put on for major label albums, for many artists,
rapping about guns and gang life is a reflection of daily life in racially and economically stratified
inner city ghettos. Blanchard, author of a Stanford article titled The Social Significance of Rap and
Hip Hop Culture argues that violence in rap is not an affective agent that threatens to harm America s
youth; rather, it is the outcry of an already existing problem from youth whose world views have been
shaped by experiencing deep economic inequalities divided largely along racial lines. However, a
study conducted by Brad J. Bushman, PhD and L. Rowell Huesmann, PhD, show that violent media,
including music, have short term and long term effects on both children and adults where the long
term effects were greater for children. These children showed heightened aggressive behavior and the
tendency to respond to stimuli in a violent way. Growing up in a violent environment will of course
have an affect on an individual, but this isn t an excuse to not look at the effects the explicit music is
adding to increase behavioral change and susceptibility to promiscuous and dangerous behaviors
(Senate Committee). We may not see the initial influence explicit

Consequences Of The Haitian Revolution
Circumstances in society that made the Haitian revolution inevitable by 1791
Slavery changed society outlook in life, it also created many memories which would be rather
forgotten. Many countries were turned into colonies and were made victims of slavery. One country
that had one of the biggest impacts on the abolishment of slavery was Haiti. Many historians have
considered Haiti and their actions against slavery to be a great milestone in its abolition. The
Revolution was not know for it uniqueness but the most successful of the rebellions that took place in
history. This essay seeks to highlight the circumstances in society that made the Haitian revolution
inevitable by 1791 and its relevance in history.

In the European colonialism voodoo played a major role for the slaves. Though it was prohibited it
was an area of autonomous activity for the slaves. Voodoo acted as a medium for psychological
liberation and it created means to express themselves and reaffirm self existence (The Haitian
Revolution 1791). Voodoo enabled the slaves to break free mentally from the hands of their
oppressors, from the metal chains of slavery and the physical and psychological scaring it created on
the bodies and minds (The Haitian Revolution 1791). According to (The Haitian Revolution 1791) in
reference to voodoo and its role it the Haitian freedom it gave them a sense of human dignity and
enabled them to survive.
A catalyst in the Haiti Revolution was Dutty Boukman; he was a houngan and was a practitioner of
the Petwo Voodoo cult. At the evening of August 14th, 1791, he held a service at Bois Caiman. A
woman was possessed by an Ogoun or the Voodoo Warrior spirit, she sacrifice a black big and began
to speak in the voice of the spirit where she described who was to lead the maroons and slaves to
revolt and seek justice from the white oppressors

The Importance Of Environmental Consciousness
In recent days, certainly, the term environmental consciousness is one of the most utilized in various
degrees in our society. It being in a conference of international leaders or a local neighborhood
meeting, the matter of being environmentally and ecologically conscient became a mandatory
measure. In a general sense, being conscious towards environmental issues is described as the ability
to comprehend the environment one habits in, the actions and relationships among it, and the impacts
the caused by a short or long term. Such consciousness is only felt as complete once the perception
that such actions are much greater than a local, it impacts the planet and the environment in question.
In order to diminish the human environmental impact, we need to rethink our actions and its possible
consequences.
Additionally, another aspect of acquiring such consciousness is the search for information. After all,
awareness and knowledge are subjects profoundly interrelated. For instance, in recent days it is
brought to the fact that cars are released pollutant gases, as industries.Yet that the most developed and
consumerist countries are the ones that release most pollutant gases that contribute to the greenhouse
effect. The understanding that the amount of waste produced is also a major issue and it produces
affects the environmental balance.
However, being aware of such knowledge does not mean being environmentally conscious. Such can
have minimal utility when not transformed

Compare And Contrast Child Care Practices In Austria Vs Usa
Childcare Practices in Austria vs. USA Nurseries in Austria are tailored specifically for children up to
the age of three. A group of four school employees usually take care of about 15 children. In Vienna
alone, there are 549 nurseries taking care of 5000 children. Once your child reaches the age of three,
they graduate into kindergarten, then they go on to primary school at the age of six. In the nurseries,
children are taught physical activities and cultural practices, and they are first introduced to the
English language and computers. In kindergarten, there are twenty five children per group. After
school services are typically found nearby primary schools. There, the staff concentrates on various
activities, including homework (Practical Life in Vienna). Similarities in childcare practices in Austria
vs. the USA include how informal babysitting is. It is done on an informal basis in both countries
(Practical Life in Vienna). They both offer childcare facilities for working parents, and both are
equally expensive at the preschool level and below. Both countries have nannies for more wealthy
families to hire to help take care of their children while they are away at work (Childcare in the US).

Comparing Abbott s Visit To The Catholic Church
An abbot is the superior, or head, of a Christian monastery. Abbotts are in charge and responsible for
all of the everyday actions that occur in monasteries. In order for an abbott to become the superior at a
monastery, the community elects a certain individual to hold the position of abbot. The criteria that
community uses to decide on are goodness of life and wisdom in teaching. If the abbot is unable to
fulfill this requirement, the community must act and replace the abbot with a new candidate that will
follow the word of God. Once in office, the abbot must keep in mind that his job is to please God,
profit for the monks, and not to benefit for himself. Due to the fact that monasteries are strongly
controlled by the higher authorities, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Obedience, being an important tool for brothers truly serve God, is a way for abbots to dictate their
rule over brothers. The brothers must put aside their own concerns, abandon their own will, and lay
down whatever they have in hand, leaving it unfinished. With the ready step of obedience, they follow
the voice of authority in their actions ( Chapter 5 pg: 29 30). If a brother is to not follow the voice of
authority, the result will be punishment by higher authority. In fear of being punished and disobeying
God, brothers must listen to abbots no matter how absurd the speech is. If a brother were to disagree
or object to a certain rule, the brother would be quieted immediately. According to the Prophet, there
are times when good words are to be left unsaid out of esteem of silence... Speaking and teaching are
the master s task; the disciple is to be silent and listen (Chapter 6 pg: 31). The brother, or disciple, is
not encouraged to speak up or intervene in situations where it may be needed. For the higher authority,
it is beneficial for the brothers to be silent and listen so that there are not any disciples to interrupt and
question the authority of higher officials. Like obedience, restraint of speech allows high authority to
maintain its control of disciples and prevent the chances of anyone from having their own

The Pipe Organ
The music it makes is as complex as it is majestic. The pipe organ is one of the largest and most
technically sophisticated instruments. Building one is an incredible feat of engineering and
craftsmanship. Early man discovered he could make music by blowing across hollow reeds of
different lengths. In ancient Egypt, an engineer s device would later would become the basic
technology of the pipe organ. A steady airflow without mouth blowing while controlling air to each
pipe to create different notes. By the Middle ages, the pipe organ was a fixture in churches throughout
Europe. Johann Sebastian Bach composed his greatest works for organ while working as a musical
director of a church. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was born in Eisenach, Germany on March 21st, 1685 to a long rooted family of musicians. Some
historians argued that during his time, the term Bach is almost synonymous with being a musician. His
father Johann Ambrosius taught him how to play musical instruments from an early age, and at the age
of 7, Bach went to a Lutheran school where he studied Latin and other subjects, which would later
impact Bach s career. Bach was profoundly religious and he saw everything that he did as a composer
and musician as basically an act of prayer. Bach s parents died when he was quite young, and he was

The Heat Of Combustion Of Magnesium Using Hess s Law
Calorimetry and Hess s Law
Experiment 10
CHEM 117 515
Samantha Miller* and Emily Duff
Summary:
The purpose of this experiment was to determine the heat of combustion of magnesium using Hess s
Law. This experiment was significant in understanding how heat can be absorbed or released and how
using a calorimeter can help measure heat flow. Part A of this experiment used two dry Styrofoam
cups and a magnetic stir bar to create a calorimeter. Temperature was measured and distilled water
was placed into the calorimeter, and after 2 3 minutes, boiling water was mixed in. The computer
continued to take data for 6 minutes and then the calorimeter was reweighed and emptied. Part B and
C were the same, only using two different types of magnesium (magnesium ribbon (part B) and
magnesium oxide (part c)) instead of the boiling water. The major result is that all of these
experiments release energy because the calorimeter temperature increased.
Results:
Part A: Part B: Part C: Calculations: Part A:
ΔTc=Tmax Ti
ΔThw=Tmax Thot qhw=(4.18J g 1C 1)(mhw)( ΔThw) qcw=(4.18J g 1C 1)(mcw)( ΔTc) qcal=Cc(ΔTc)
qhw=qcw+qcal Part B and C:
ΔH = (macid + mmg)(4.18J g 1C 1)(ΔTc) + Cc (ΔTc)
Results:
In this experiment, the results of the tested materials gave off heat and the change in the temperature
was positive because when one substance was added to another the temperature increased. A
calorimetric constant is required because the calorimeter that was made is different for every lab
group.

Again, no big deal until, that is, ten other people have to do the same thing, and suddenly the parking
lot is a chaotic storm of nomadic vehicles being driven by irritated people because some animal
couldn t put their cart away. Additionally, carts may roll around on the pavement, bashing into
vehicles, damaging property, and just overall being a nuisance. None of these issues, however, are the
biggest ones caused by this act of negligence. By choosing not to put their carts away, customers are
saying that such an action is beneath them and can be done by an employee in short, someone lesser
than them, (the customer.) It is degrading to the employee, and overall disrespectful, particularly
during times of bad weather. Because someone did not feel like putting away something which they

zero temperatures putting the carts away for hours on end. This relates to an ethos based thinking, as it

Benefits Of Extracurricular Activities
In high school there are extracurricular activities and clubs that educators and parents feel offer many
benefits to students. In contrary to this I do not believe that the school should make students
participate in afterschool activities against their will. Reasonings for this are: Many students have
work outside of school and have no time, Many students play sports which is already considered an
extracurricular activity, some students will resent extracurricular if they are forced to participate in
them. On the other hand, colleges require a well rounded student who has taken extracurriculars.
One reason that supports my claim is the fact that many high school students already work and they
don t have the time for extracurriculars. According to an article by NewsOK, it states, The U.S.
Census shows that more than 1 in 4 high school students age 16 and older work. This shows us that a
good amount of students are already occupied outside of school by work alone. Meaning that students
who work would not have the time to join extracurriculars and it would be unjust to force a student to
join one. A student who works and has school is already learning very valuable lessons and ideas
about the real world and what it takes to keep and maintain a job and they pick up many skills by
doing this. To force them into extracurriculars to learn lessons and values wouldn t make sense
because they are already learning everything they need to know to keep and maintain a job in the real

Comparing Two Different Versions Of A Cinderella Story
There are two different versions of a Cinderella story. There is a French version and a German version.
The two stories have a lot of similarities as far as the theme and the way the story plays out for
Cinderella. It also has a lot of similarities in the magical transformations. The stories teach to treat
others as how you would want to be treated. To begin with, the two Cinderella stories have the same
evil stepmother and stepsisters. In the German version there is a quote that shows Cinderella had a
very bad stepmom, They were beautiful, with fair faces, but evil and dark hearts. Time grew very bad
for the stepchild. These quotes show that the two Cinderella s had terrible stepmothers and treated her
with no respect no matter how nice she was to them. To begin with, her family made her do all the
chores while they tortured Cinderella. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

stepmother tricked both Cinderella s into doing chores. In two versions of the story, the godmother
figures are different. In the French version, the figure is the traditional fairy godmother that found her
crying because she wanted to go to the ball. In the German version, there were two white pigeons that
carried her dress in instead of using magic to transform her into the dress, slipper, and carriage. The
fairy godmother represents the original figure in the story. The two white pigeons are part of the
German culture so that s why they were used in the story instead of the fairy

Why I Was A Kid
When I was a kid, I would always hear my mom and the other adults talk about how they were going

minorities in the inner city. This was back in Milwaukee in the early 1980 s, now every city that I go
to and visit this myth seems to follow. It wasn t until I moved to Atlanta and over the last ten years, I
saw the city change right before my very eyes. I noticed nice condos going up in Midtown Atlanta,
nice homes being built in East Atlanta and expensive apartments in areas like the West End and Sweet
Auburn District. After seeing some of the prices for these new apartments and homes, I knew there

What will happens to these long term residents, where do they go now? If suburbanites are taking
flight back to the city, what will the face of Atlanta look like in ten years? The inner city residents will
probably be given vouchers for Section 8 housing in less desirable areas in the city where jobs and
transportation are scarce. As for the later, in the next ten years Atlanta will go from predominantly
black and liberal landscape to a more white conservative population, if we aren t including or afforded
the benefits of gentrification. The exodus of the Black poor and working class to the suburbs, will in
effect lead to the loss of Black politicians and old time supporters of the old Atlanta.
Will gentrification radically alter a neighborhood? Does so called cleaning up really change anything,
or is it just straightening it up , making it look more attractive for visitors. Atlanta s populus in urban
areas continues to grow, but this growth is now being fueled by existing suburban residents and yuppie
transplants from other states, streaming current residents further out of the city. Africans Americans

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Bottled Water Is Better...
Your whole life has been a lie. Commercials, parents, friends, and even some of your teachers have
told you that bottled water is better than tap. Well bottle your emotions and listen to what i have to say.
One can argue that bottled water is better than tap but their argument will not be as strong or
convincing as mine will be to do the opposite, to convince you that tap water is better than bottled
water. The discussion has been around for a while now and we all know that tap water is more
beneficial than bottled water. First off, tap water is more regulated and checked than bottled water is
making it safer than bottled water. Tap water is also nowhere near as expensive as bottled water is and
it s better for the environment too. Lastly, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 2013 the average cost for tap water was $2 per every thousand gallons. While bottled was $1.21 for
every gallon alone. Here is another way to look at it, if you buy a $1 bottled water everyday for a year,
you end up spending $365 on water that most likely is from a tap source (Livingston). Why spend
$365 annually on bottled water when you can just use your own faucet or the nearest water fountain?
People spend so much money on bottled water that could be used for water charities across the world
to help people who don t have access to a clean water supply. This would call for everyone who does
have access to a clean tap water source, to use it and take the money that they would rather spend on a
bottle and put it towards a greater cause. By choosing to drink tap water you save money daily,
weekly, monthly, and annually so before you pay $2.14 for that bottle of purified water remember you
have the same, if not better, quality water at your house.
Another thing about tap water that is overlooked is how often we use it in our everyday lives. On
average, an American family uses 300 gallons of water everyday. Now there is no way one family can
drink 300 gallons of water in one day so how do they use that much? The answer is because tap water
has multiple uses other than just being drinking water. Everyday when you take a shower, brush your
teeth, flush the toilet, wash the dishes,

An Autosomal Dominant Disorder
Recurrent epistaxis is one of the diagnostic criteria for Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT).
HHT is an autosomal dominant disorder that is also depicted by skin and mucosal telangiectasias.
Feared complications of HHT include rupture of pulmonary or cerebral arteriovenous malformations
(AVM). The etiology of HHT is most often due to genetic mutations that impair normal angiogenesis.
We report a case of suspected HHT in a 49 year old female, with a first degree relative with HHT, and
a history of recurrent epistaxis status post coiling of left and right internal maxillary arteries. Of
special note, her initial hemoglobin level was 1.7, but she was alert and walking at triage. Her
presentation was consistent with multiple prior admissions in the past three years. Patients with
suspected hereditary telangiectasia should receive a comprehensive work up, including serum studies,
imaging, and possibly genetic testing. Treatment should focus on both acute management of the bleed
and prevention of future complications.
Introduction:
Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia, or Osler Weber Rendu syndrome, is an autosomal dominant
disorder characterized by recurrent epistaxis and small arteriovenous malformations known as
telangiectasias . Telangiectasias can rupture with minimal or no trauma, and resultant bleeds can be
difficult to manage. The epistaxis can lead to chronic anemia in a small set of afflicted patients. The

Why Is Reconstruction Too Conservative
Reconstruction was a time of bringing the union back together. However it ultimately ended up
failing. Overall reconstruction was too conservative. Although reconstruction failed a few important
things did come out of it. The establishment of an educational system was one of the most striking
successes of the republican regime, notes Thomas Holt, Its creation firmly established the principle of
free education in a state that had not had such a system before the war. Although legislatures had many
differences, they were able to come together to make education available for all. The establishment of
a public school system was huge success of reconstruction. However schools were still segregated and
not at all equal. Although it may not have worked as well as it should of, it introduced free public
education into states where there was no such thing pre war. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

While these things were good, reconstruction was still far too conservative. Freedmen in the north

Antigone Tragic Character Analysis
A tragic character is a character in a tragic play that goes through the three different stages of a tragic
character. The stages of a tragic character are hamartia, peripeteia, and anagnorisis. Hamartia is the
flaw in their personality that leads to their downfall. A flaw could often be, but not limited to pride,
ignorance, and selfishness. Peripeteia is the characters change in fortune also leading to their downfall.
This is the part in the play where the story flips to give the tragic character different circumstances.
These flips are mostly out of the control of the character and decided by gods or other uncontrollable
forces. Anagnorisis is the epiphany that the character has towards the end of the tragedy. This is when
the tragic character realizes that their tragic flaw has led to their downfall, and their change in fortune
cannot be avoided. I think that there are many characters in Antigone that could fit the criteria of a
tragic character, but there is only one character that fits the description of a tragic character perfectly.
Antigone is often perceived as the tragic character as the play is named after her and she is the
protagonist. She does possess some of the qualities of a tragic character, but not all of them. Her
hamartia, or tragic flaw is her loyalty to her family which causes her to rebel against authority. But if
you were to somehow ask Antigone if she would have been less loyal to her family if the result would
have been different, I almost guarantee that she wouldn t have changed a thing. Her change in fortune
could be when Creon decides to put her to death because of her actions. This isn t really a change in
fortune because she knew this would happen if she buried her brother. I do not think Antigone ever
went through the last stage of a tragic character. She never had a realization of her mistake that led to
her downfall. She was fine with taking the consequences of her actions, and found no fault in her
personality or decision. She might have ended the story with suicide, but there was not a moment that
she regret making the decisions that she did. Because of this, I do not think Antigone is the tragic
character in the play as one might argue. I think a character that

Nutrition For Health And Development
Parents become more stressed
Circle of anxiety compounding feeding difficulties. (Hall and Elliman 2003)
It is well recognized that household food insecurity is one of the three underlying causes of
malnutrition. At the international conference of nutrition (ICN) held in Rome in 1992, food security
was defined in its most basic form as physical, social and economic access by all people at all times to
sufficient, safe and nutritious food which meets their dietary needs and food preference for an active
and healthy life. Thus, food insecurity exists when people lack access to sufficient amount of safe and
nutritious food, therefore not consuming the food required for normal growth and development, for an

Unique In My Life
I like to observe people. I often make mistakes while doing it and then get myself into very
uncomfortable situations that could be prevented. I am clumsy. People often ask me how can I be a pre
professional ballet dancer and still be so clumsy. I am the product of my changing environment.
Shaped by the masses, shaped by languages, shaped by the stars. Once someone said to me: Chaos
before the star . There needs to be chaos for something beautiful to happen. Molecular clouds of
interstellar gases and dust binding at freezing temperatures, and then a star emerges from the chaos. If
I could get one dollar for every time I have embarrassed myself, I would probably be living another
life accompanied by those very expensive dogs. But, if I could get one dollar for everytime that those
embarrassments have turned into beautiful disasters, I would only be able to buy a handful of things at
a dollar store. Those events are quite unique. Unique as in for that one day that my mother hit her head
on the windshield while sneezing, which by the way was hilarious. Unique as the inspiring songs
about turtles, unique as every broken heart, uniques as you, and also as unique as the day that my life
changed.
The engines of the plane could just be described as huge. I remember having the sensation of going to

Rpf In Rwanda
During 1959, the Hutus removed the Tutsi monarchy and thousands of Tutsis escaped to bordering
countries. A large group of Tutsi exiles created a rebel group, the Rwandan Patriotic Front. The
RPF(abbreviated) came into Rwanda to start a war which ended in a peace agreement in 1993.
Following the civil war in Rwanda between the Tutsis and the Hutus, the Rwandan President Juvenal
Habyarimana s plane was shot down near the Kigali, which also was carrying two Hutus. The Hutus
blamed the RPF and began to slaughter them all immediately. It was complete devastation, people
killing their friends, neighbors, and even husbands/wives who had Tutsi ID cards. The main points or
central issues of the Rwandan Genocide were shown through the actions of the perpetrators, victims,
upstanders, and the bystanders. Perpetrators(Hutus) were brainwashed to believe what they were

From his teamwork with his colleagues in ADRA and helping the orphanages and families, Carl
displayed himself as a true hero. He saved lives because he stayed. He helped those who were in need,
he stuck around no matter what obstacles he had to face, and he kept a positive outlook on life,
knowing he would soon be with his wife and children. We should learn to stop standing around
watching atrocities like this occur, and instead follow the example of Carl, becoming an upstander and
doing everything we can possibly do to help in times of need. Shock, disgust and emotional pain are
my personal reactions to the Rwandan Genocide. I felt sick to my stomach reading the terrible events
that Carl explained during his experience in the genocide and watching the documentary where
hundreds of thousands of bodies lay as objects on the ground after being brutally murdered. The mere

Socrates And Niccolo Machiavelli
Essay 1: Socrates and Machiavelli
Although Socrates and Niccolo Machiavelli lived in different time periods, the political climate that
their philosophies were founded on were very similar. The trial of Socrates began after the
Peloponnesian War when the new Spartan Tyranny took over the Athenian government. Socrates was
accused of corrupting the youth and disrespecting the gods by the Spartan government. In the eyes of
the Spartan government Socrates is a gadfly because of his posing of upsetting questions directed at
authorities. This posed a major threat to the new society they were trying to create in Athens after the
war was over. Plato wrote The Apology and Crito from the perspective of Socrates after he was put on
trial, found ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He believed that the sovereign is primarily judged based on his success and not on the process he took
to get there or the characteristics he displays. Socrates on the other hand would question the nobles
until they felt inferior and encourage the government to become more virtuous, a suggestion that
Machiavelli says his Prince would shut down: it is necessary that he should be prudent enough to
avoid the scandal of those vices which would lose him the state, and guard himself if able to, he can
indulge them with less scruple (Machiavelli 57). Machiavelli believes that in some cases it is better to
harbor bad characteristics if it means protecting the state, adding to his point that the ends justify the
means. Socrates was a firm believer that the pursuit of truth and perfecting the soul outweighed the
privileges of being the wealthy and honorable leader that Machiavelli describes. Socrates believed that
extra riches would not bring extra happiness and the only real knowledge is that we know nothing. No
body or ruler is truly wise or wealthy of knowledge until they admit that they really know nothing,
start to ask questions and get educated on matters that they are unfamiliar with. Only then will the
aristocrats and rulers truly be able to be successful in leading a democratic society.
Machiavelli s Prince uses the laws of society and his power to control the population just enough so
they didn t feel like they were being

The Story Of The Ramayana
In the story Ramayana from Valmiki is a story that has often been pass down from generations from
the original version of the story. In the story the Ramayana majority of the Ramayana s view Sita as
the wife who follows her husband when he is exiled for fourteen years who upholds her chastity when
she is abducted by the Rakshasa king Ravana who goes through the ring of fire to prove her chastity
(Anand). During the tenure of the abduction even after passing all these tests quietly, leaves her

rather than humans as men use to treat woman as property. In the Ramayana culture they expect the
wife the woman to be a virtue a figure assigning no reciprocal duties to the husband. In the sense the
wife is nothing more than just a piece of property to her husband.
The Ramayana also depicted the love and care of Lord Rama for his wife and the obstacles he
willingly faced to save her from the clutches of Ravana but over the years these acts have failed to
acquire the status of obligations for a husband and have been reduced to insignificant details of the
great text (Anand). In the Ramayana Rama portrays his wife as the ideal Hindu woman beautiful

Editing and the Crisis of Open Source Essay
Editing and the Crisis of Open Source
The Free Software movement that began in 1985 and the newer open source movement, represented a
serious threat to traditional methods of production and distribution. The idea of a non proprietary
method of cultural exchange was and is a radical departure from traditional models that have come to
restrict creativity and free exchange. In the ensuing years, there was a gradual drift away from ideas of
non proprietary toward ideas of access to software s code level. This mirrored an evident diffusion of
these open ideas into the cultural sphere. Open publishing, open editing, open music, and open culture
are now hip buzzwords that point toward a new cultural formation based on a more free exchange ...

Wikipedia.org, an open source encyclopedia, describes this conflict of terms.
It was hoped that the usage of the newer term open source would eliminate such ambiguity, and would
also be easier to market to business users (who might mistakenly associate free software with anti
commericalism). Since its introduction, however, the open source label has been criticized for
fostering an ambiguity of a different kind: that of confusing it for mere availability of the source,
rather than the freedom to use, modify, and redistribute it.
One of the early defects of free software was the perceived inability to use it in for profit ventures.
Whereas the Free Software movement thinks of the freedom of software s code to be available to all
as an ethical and social imperative, open source treats it as a practical issue. Both GPL and open
source licenses can be used in for profit ventures. Copylefted material must remain free for people to
modify, but can be priced for people to buy.
With the advent of the term open source, it now appears that everything is open source, or is at least
sold that way. When not applied to programming, open content is used to describe a wide range of
activities that have nothing to do with computer software. There is still the problem of

Manners Are Manners Matter
Manners Matter
People living in this era must have had an experience of people bumping into each other, and just
walking away without apologizing. Some of them are in an urgent situation and we can tolerate that
there is no time to be polite but most of them, whatever they are doing, are not in a hurry. People are
usually able to judge whether the rude person was in a crucial situation. It s true that it gets really
frustrating to see the impolite person walk away like nothing happened when my feelings are hurt. It is
becoming certain that manners and courtesies are disappearing at a rapid speed.
Manners have been greatly valued and judged since the ancient times, but not anymore. People who
did not keep their ways to monarchs or even to high officials were often severely punished or
executed. Whenever I did something that was unmannerly, my parents punished me very harshly,
usually with a long stick that I brought home with me from camping. I always regretted that I brought
that stick home. Now, that I reflect on the things that I ve done to my parents, I think they made the
right choice.
Manners are important because they show love, gratitude, and respect toward another when practiced.
They affect how we speak or act in a given situation. For example, saying thank you or please
suggests that the person is feeling gratitude and respect. An individual who provided help will feel
absolutely delighted and feel that is was worthwhile to give the person the help he

Antifeminist and Feminism within The Scarlet Letter
Antifeminist and Feminism within The Scarlet Letter
In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter Hester Prynne is accused and convicted of adultery.
During the puritan era women in this society had specific obligations and rights they had to maintain.
By Hester having an affair and acting unladylike the community disapproved of her actions causing
everyone to isolate her in her town. Due to Hester Prynne s Isolation and the harsh judgment she
received from everyone in her town, she goes through having to deal with Antifeminism acts towards
her. Those who lived in the puritan era were not aware that their behavior and actions towards Hester
and those who were associated with her were considered sexist. Throughout the story we see Hester
deal with criticism and judgment from the community. By her paving her own way and doing what
she thinks is best for her self and not sticking to the Status quo, she appeared to be fearless and Bold
to those in the puritan era. Because of the actions Hester Prynne s displayed she would be considered a
modern day feminist, one who believes that women and men should have equal rights. In The Scarlet
Letter Hester going against what society think is acceptable for a women living during the puritan era
shows how she fits the modern expectations of feminism. Once Hester is punished and convicted we
slowly start seeing the change in people in her community s behavior towards her. Throughout The
Scarlet Letter Hester goes through the

Effective Use Of Cinematic Techniques In Tim Burton s Films
Tim Burton, known for his movies that, most of the time, can fit into the horrific genre. As a result of
his troubled childhood, Tim Burton directed mostly horror movies. He is well known for his films
Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, Edward Scissorhands and Alice in Wonderland. Tim Burton was
looked at as weird when he was a little kid. He once said Everybody in the whole world has been
misperceived. At school, you wanted something to come across this way and it didn t come across... It
s why you struggle as a child and you draw and you want to create. There is an impulse to be seen. For
yourself: what you are. . He grew up to make his all of his movies with at least a bit of horror added
into the movie.
Tim Burton uses lighting to create a certain kind of mood depending on how the characters feel in a
lot of his movies. Three good examples would be Charlie and the Chocolate factory, Alice in
Wonderland, and Edward Scissorhands. In Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Tim Burton uses
lighting to show how poor and sad Charlie s life is. In the movie, The lighting turns darker when the
camera transitions into Charlie s house. When the camera focused on the inside of the factory, The
lighting turned bright to show the excitement. In the movie Alice in Wonderland, the lighting is always

is edited in there to remind the audience of how sharp and dangerous Edward would be. In Charlie and

When the girl is rolled, the people edit in a little ground sharing and the sound of breaking stone.
Those sounds are edited to show how large the girl was compared to what she was. As the girl is
stretching, it make kind of an inflating sound like someone is inflating a balloon. In Alice in

1. What are the main benefits of Coffee Mate and what is limiting its sales?
First of all, Coffee Mate´s main benefit is its ability to replace cream or real milk. Furthermore, it can
be stored for a much longer time than milk or cream making it a good substitute. People who cannot
drink coffee without milk don t need to carry around or look for milk since coffee mate will do the

The Characteristics Of Community Psychology
Richard Henry
PSY 324E
October 14, 2017
A Collective Mind
Before we can discuss what community psychology is, we must understand what a community is. We
often view a community as a collective or randomized people, some happen to work close by, some
happen to like the housing market and decided to raise a family, and some may have been in the same
town for their whole lives, feeling no interest to look beyond. What is represented here, is the
differences within the individuals. No two people have the same exact story, the same upbringing, the
same experience. Often times, your neighbor may be nothing like you, yet you may have similarities.
The similarities may come from the way you both think politically, to the teams you root for. (you
notice he too, has a 12th man sticker plastered on his back windshield)
Community psychology is the collection of individuals, their moralities, their viewpoints on the world
and the basis in which you collectively live. For the example of different communities, I ll take
Portland, Oregon, my new place of residence, versus where I am originally from, Ocean City, New
Jersey. Portland is recognized as one of the more inclusive places in the world, a collection of people
who look out for each other , wanting everyone to feel both welcome and equal. We often look at a
place as being a general population of similar people, where we assume everyone in Portland just
moves here and becomes influenced. But I tend to believe that people live

The Culture Of Japan And The Japanese Culture
The Japanese culture is one that is rich within an historical and traditional context. Many of the
traditional practices established hundreds of years ago can be seen today in modern Japan and are a
direct reflection of significant historical accounts. Japan is an island nation, consisting of the four
large islands of Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu. Together they are approximately the size of
Germany or the State of California, and it has a population of approximately 126 million people. The
Japanese religion is based off of two main beliefs, the belief in Shinto and Buddhism many Japanese
people believe consider themselves both. The Japanese people were known to be around as early as
4,500 B.C. They have constructed their government style to a constitutional monarchy where they do
in fact have an emperor, but he has limited power within the country. The main power of the country is
held by the Prime Minister of Japan. Japan is made up of many islands that extend along the Pacific
coast of Asia. The land area is made up of a lot of forest and mountainous area that cannot be used for
agricultural, industrial or residential use. Japan also has one of the largest and growing economies in
the world. They are growing every day and it is all because the people of Japan work very hard in
order for their economy to flourish as it has. Japan has a large population in relation to its land mass
and as a consequence most Japanese people live crowded together in an urban corridor squeezed along
the eastern edge of the Japanese islands. A result of this crowding is that Japanese place a high value
on public harmony and the avoidance of any conflict, especially in public. Japanese norms require
people to be willing to apologize and humble themselves, so much so that even after a minor auto
accident each driver will jump out of their vehicle and bow to each other and apologize, instead of
risking a very public confrontation. Frequently, Japanese will also employ the use of a go between to
negotiate a possible marriage. In this way, an individual can turn down a bride or groom without
rejecting them to their face, thereby avoiding open disagreement or embarrassment of an individual.
The Japanese are constantly

The Five Major Plant Hormones
Hormones are a type of cell signaling used for long distance communication between cells. Only
target cells have the ability to respond to particularly hormones. In plants, hormones will typically
travel by vessels, diffusion across the cell, or in the air.
Auxins is one of the five major classes of plant hormones. The functions of auxins include elongation
of the stem, as well as promoting root growth, and another function includes acting in phototropism
and gravitropism. Phototropism is essentially response to a light stimulates; gravitropism is response
to gravity. Plants have the capacity to detect light and sense gravity. The cells furthest from the light
have auxin which reacts to phototropism. The plant furthest from the light will have elongated cells.
The auxin hormones bind to plasma membrane receptors, this will activate the proton pump. This
proton pump will diffuse hydrogen ions out of the cell which in turn has many effects. The effects
include the cell wall loosening, the turgor pressure of the cell will increase because water is entering
the cell, and the cells will enlarge. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Evolution Of Divorce And The Consequences It Has On Todays...
For my research project, I would like to explore the evolution of divorce/marriage and the
consequences it has on todays society. In todays society the definition of family has dramatically
changed, both by structure and by definition. Divorce is now the norm. Today in the United States it is
believed that the divorce rate hovers at about 50% and that one of every six adults divorces two or
more times. Why has this become normal, and what can we do to fix this? I believe that by taking a
step back and focusing on marriage, and really knowing who your marrying, we could see a
significant drop in divorce and the problems developing in each generation. Divorce is never
something to be taken lightly. In this paper I will examine the unfolding of divorce and how it evolved
into what it is today, therefore shed some light on possibilities to undercut the still rising divorce rate.
While I go through this paper I will give you a complete background on the former marriage regime
and how divorce was in the past vs now. While divorce is helpful for some people it can also be a
difficult and painful process for others. My goal is to not come off as one sided but to really educate
you on the background of marriage and divorce and hopefully learn from our past mistakes. My
position is that we need to understand the effects and the consequences of divorce so we can
reevaluate how we view and define divorce, and therefore marriage. How has divorce revolutionized,

Costco Key Issues
Key Issues:
At the end of 2012, Costco was a successful business; however there are some issues that they would
need to deal with. These issues mainly arise from their previous successful ventures as a warehouse
wholesale company. The first issue is that Costco has competitors that can actually be and are a threat
to their success. Competition allows a company to improve itself and prove its prowess to its
customers. However, when a competitor is able to provide the service at a much reduced cost,
problems will arise. As for the second issue, it seems that Costco s efforts to become an international
company are moving slowly. They have not reached a point where their US and Canadian warehouses
provide a backbone for their finances. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most notably, the increase from 2010 to 2011 was a staggering $9,774 in millions. Compared to the
increase of $5,660 in millions from 2009 to 2010, there is a greater increase in merchandising costs
that Costco should be concerned about (Thompson... 2014). These costs have been accrued through
increasing gas costs for the transportation of goods and the increase in warehouses have increased
preopening costs. Costco has so far been able to keep a net income possible with these increasing
merchandising costs. Although if the net income is compared from 2009 to 2010 and 2010 to 2011, the
amount of gain in the net income is decreasing; if left unchecked, this will become a problem. In 2009
to 2010, there was a gain of $217 million while in 2010 to 2011 there was only a gain of $157 million
(Thompson... 2014). This is a smaller gain by $58 million. While it is still an increase in net income,
the resulting costs of running their business have caused Costco to achieve a smaller profit margin.
Recommendations:
First Recommendation: In regards to key issue 1 and 2, Costco needs to lower its membership fees in
order to attract new customers. Membership fees account for a small portion of their total revenue but
membership numbers are how Costco makes its profits. In 2011, membership fees only accounted for
2.11% of Costco s total revenue (Thompson... 2014). Lowering the annual business membership fee
from $55 down to $45 would allow more people in the

TABC Considerations for Olive Garden Analysis
Beverage Management Project #2
TABC Considerations for Olive Garden Analysis In order to offer a viable platform in which
restaurants can offer alcoholic beverages as part of their drink line, the Texas Alcoholic Beverage
Commission has created a set of guidelines which establishments must utilize in order to initiate a
more responsible service to the community. According to the TABC guidelines (2014) these guidelines
should clear following national, state, and local laws when offering alcohol to patrons, such as
ensuring that alcoholic beverage is only served to those over age 21 (checked if they appear to be
under 30), a valid Texas driver s license, or another valid identification must be used, and employees
must refuse service to anyone that does not fit these criteria. However, there are also TABC guidelines
(2014) which are state defined, such as the need to refuse service to anyone that appears to be
intoxicated, prohibit employees from serving customers to the point of intoxication, offer mediation
for intoxicated customers who wish to leave the premises in such a state, and adhere to the TABC
certification regulations. A secondary goal, to this extent is also to meet the mixed beverage gross
sales tax requirements at a rate of 6.7% after Jan.1, 2014 and 14% prior to Jan. 1, 2014, as well as the
mixed beverage sales tax, which was implemented after Jan. 1, 2014. In order to draw more insight
into the subject, the Olive Garden restaurant has looked up.

Why Huckleberry Finn Should Not Be Banned
I would like to bring up the situation on banning books. In our 8th grade Language Arts class we have
been assigned a project to read a banned or challenged book and determine whether or not the we
think that our book should be approved or banned. I chose the book The Adventures of Huckleberry
Finn and discovered almost immediately why this book was banned.
Over the years since has been published, many have been tried to ban this book but their attempts have
never succeeded . Many of this book s readers think that this book is racist and contains inappropriate
language. In fact most of the time this book has been out it has either been banned or challenged since
it was first published in 1885.

Is There Too Much Power In The Book 1984 By George Orwell
The Government has a lot more power and control over us than you may think. According to
popularmechanics.com, there are an estimated 30 million surveillance cameras now deployed in the
United States, shooting 4 billion hours of footage a week. Americans are being watched at all times,
more than ever. George Orwell s novel 1984 is a great example to what a government would look like
if it had complete surveillance and power over its citizens. The United States might not be at the same
level as Big Brother in 1984 yet, but it certainly looks like it might be going in that direction. Big
Brother and the party have complete control and power over its citizens in Oceania, a fictional country
in 1984.The party uses telescreens in every citizen s room to monitor their every move throughout the
day. Telescreens are basically big cameras that hear and see everything. This essentially takes away all
the citizens of Oceania s privacy away. Nothing can be done without big brother seeing it. The United
States is not much different from oceania. Cameras are now placed everywhere imaginable throughout

Almost everyone in the United States has a smartphone with a camera. The cameras on smartphones
are also not as safe as we think. As said in an article by Peter Maass and Megha Rajagopalan titled
That s No Phone. That s My Tracker, Cellular systems constantly check and record the location of all
phones on their networks and this data is particularly treasured by police departments and online
advertisers . This is an example how the government can access even our smartphones. They can get
private information on you if they pleased violating our right to privacy. Every year, private
companies spend millions of dollars developing new services that track, store and share the words,
movements and even thoughts of their customers states Paul Ohm in the article titled That s No Phone.

My Speech On The Emergency Medicine Class
In the summer of 2014, I thought I had life completely planned out. I was enrolled at Rowan Cabarrus
Community College while still attending Mount Pleasant High School. I had just started taking my
Emergency Medicine class and had already completed two thirds of my fire class. I volunteered at
Northeast Cabarrus Fire Department and was so close to becoming an interior firefighter, I could taste
it. I never slowed down enough to think about God s plan for me. I seemed to only care about creating
my own plan and following through with it. My intentions were to graduate high school and be
completely done with my education. Graduating meant I was free to spend my time chasing my
dreams, but that changed on my way to my Emergency Medicine ... Show more content on

I was overcome with an intense pain shooting from my neck to the area between my shoulders. My
breathing slowed and shortly was accompanied by my low moans as I tried to squeeze little bits of air
into my lungs. I could feel myself being consumed by the feeling of fire inside my chest. I passed out
for what felt like a long night s sleep, to only be awakened by the sound of the ambulance and the
frosty fingers holding my C spine. My precisely drawn out plan was no longer in my control; I had
relinquished all rights to my plan when I agreed to join the game leap frog. That fun game of leap frog
left me with broken dreams and in excruciating pain.
At some point on that rainy day, I found myself consumed in complete and utter denial. It must have
been after the doctors notified my parents that I had broken four thoracic vertebra; my T 1 though T 4.
The doctors told me my life would never be the same because my back problems would limit my
future plans. They informed me the pain I felt would go down some, but never completely subside. A
couple doctors wanted to place me on a pain medicine regimen for the rest of my life. I remember the
icy puddles from my tears that accumulated on my pillow, the smell of the doctor s cologne that
slowly suffocated my already struggling breaths, and the sound of my mother weeping at my bedside.
I took the diagnosis like a bullet; it pierced my heart and exited my body carrying my

  • 2. Examples Of Imagery In Babel I think beneath the surface this story is about the horrors of war and the way people involved become desensitized to it. In this story, the two horrors of war that stand out the most are poverty and death. Poverty is largely shown when the main character goes to his assigned living quarters. It is obvious that the pregnant women and the three Jews are living in poverty based on the description we get of how they are living. A couple ways death is depicted in the story is with the following lines, the stench of yesterday s blood and slaughtered horses drips into the evening chill and his gullet has been ripped out, his face hacked in two, and dark blood is clinging to his beard like a clump of lead. • 3. Social Media And Political Rap As circumstances of social inequalities are becoming more prominent in the social media and news sources, the appearance of political rap is also becoming more prevalent. It s very common to hear rappers rap about their struggles and injustices, not only with present day artists but also older groups. For example, N.W.A, Tupac Shakur, Public Enemy, and Nas, who were popular in the late 80 s and throughout the 90 s, were known for their politically charged music and critiques of the American media. Present day artists such as Kendrick Lamar and Joey Bada$$, keep this type of music alive and continue to address inequalities. The ultimate goal of this type of music is to bring attention to the actions and policies of the government as well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If rap music appears to be excessively violent when compared to country western or popular rock, it is because rap stems from a culture that has been seeped in the fight against political, social, and economic oppression. Despite the theatrics sometimes put on for major label albums, for many artists, rapping about guns and gang life is a reflection of daily life in racially and economically stratified inner city ghettos. Blanchard, author of a Stanford article titled The Social Significance of Rap and Hip Hop Culture argues that violence in rap is not an affective agent that threatens to harm America s youth; rather, it is the outcry of an already existing problem from youth whose world views have been shaped by experiencing deep economic inequalities divided largely along racial lines. However, a study conducted by Brad J. Bushman, PhD and L. Rowell Huesmann, PhD, show that violent media, including music, have short term and long term effects on both children and adults where the long term effects were greater for children. These children showed heightened aggressive behavior and the tendency to respond to stimuli in a violent way. Growing up in a violent environment will of course have an affect on an individual, but this isn t an excuse to not look at the effects the explicit music is adding to increase behavioral change and susceptibility to promiscuous and dangerous behaviors (Senate Committee). We may not see the initial influence explicit ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It being in a conference of international leaders or a local neighborhood meeting, the matter of being environmentally and ecologically conscient became a mandatory measure. In a general sense, being conscious towards environmental issues is described as the ability to comprehend the environment one habits in, the actions and relationships among it, and the impacts the caused by a short or long term. Such consciousness is only felt as complete once the perception that such actions are much greater than a local, it impacts the planet and the environment in question. In order to diminish the human environmental impact, we need to rethink our actions and its possible consequences. Additionally, another aspect of acquiring such consciousness is the search for information. After all, awareness and knowledge are subjects profoundly interrelated. For instance, in recent days it is brought to the fact that cars are released pollutant gases, as industries.Yet that the most developed and consumerist countries are the ones that release most pollutant gases that contribute to the greenhouse effect. The understanding that the amount of waste produced is also a major issue and it produces affects the environmental balance. Abbotts are in charge and responsible for all of the everyday actions that occur in monasteries. In order for an abbott to become the superior at a monastery, the community elects a certain individual to hold the position of abbot. The criteria that community uses to decide on are goodness of life and wisdom in teaching. If the abbot is unable to fulfill this requirement, the community must act and replace the abbot with a new candidate that will follow the word of God. The Heat Of Combustion Of Magnesium Using Hess s Law Calorimetry and Hess s Law Experiment 10 CHEM 117 515 Samantha Miller* and Emily Duff Summary: The purpose of this experiment was to determine the heat of combustion of magnesium using Hess s Law. This experiment was significant in understanding how heat can be absorbed or released and how using a calorimeter can help measure heat flow. Part A of this experiment used two dry Styrofoam cups and a magnetic stir bar to create a calorimeter. Temperature was measured and distilled water was placed into the calorimeter, and after 2 3 minutes, boiling water was mixed in. The computer continued to take data for 6 minutes and then the calorimeter was reweighed and emptied. Part B and C were the same, only using two different types of magnesium (magnesium ribbon (part B) and magnesium oxide (part c)) instead of the boiling water. The major result is that all of these experiments release energy because the calorimeter temperature increased. Results: Part A: Part B: Part C: Calculations: Part A: ΔTc=Tmax Ti ΔThw=Tmax Thot qhw=(4.18J g 1C 1)(mhw)( ΔThw) qcw=(4.18J g 1C 1)(mcw)( ΔTc) qcal=Cc(ΔTc) qhw=qcw+qcal Part B and C: ΔH = (macid + mmg)(4.18J g 1C 1)(ΔTc) + Cc (ΔTc) Results: In this experiment, the results of the tested materials gave off heat and the change in the temperature was positive because when one substance was added to another the temperature increased. • 11. Benefits Of Extracurricular Activities In high school there are extracurricular activities and clubs that educators and parents feel offer many benefits to students. In contrary to this I do not believe that the school should make students participate in afterschool activities against their will. Reasonings for this are: Many students have work outside of school and have no time, Many students play sports which is already considered an extracurricular activity, some students will resent extracurricular if they are forced to participate in them. On the other hand, colleges require a well rounded student who has taken extracurriculars. One reason that supports my claim is the fact that many high school students already work and they don t have the time for extracurriculars. According to an article by NewsOK, it states, The U.S. Census shows that more than 1 in 4 high school students age 16 and older work. This shows us that a good amount of students are already occupied outside of school by work alone. Meaning that students who work would not have the time to join extracurriculars and it would be unjust to force a student to join one. A student who works and has school is already learning very valuable lessons and ideas about the real world and what it takes to keep and maintain a job and they pick up many skills by doing this. To force them into extracurriculars to learn lessons and values wouldn t make sense because they are already learning everything they need to know to keep and maintain a job in the real ... One can argue that bottled water is better than tap but their argument will not be as strong or convincing as mine will be to do the opposite, to convince you that tap water is better than bottled water. The discussion has been around for a while now and we all know that tap water is more beneficial than bottled water. First off, tap water is more regulated and checked than bottled water is making it safer than bottled water. Tap water is also nowhere near as expensive as bottled water is and it s better for the environment too. Lastly, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 2013 the average cost for tap water was $2 per every thousand gallons. While bottled was $1.21 for every gallon alone. Here is another way to look at it, if you buy a $1 bottled water everyday for a year, you end up spending $365 on water that most likely is from a tap source (Livingston). Why spend $365 annually on bottled water when you can just use your own faucet or the nearest water fountain? People spend so much money on bottled water that could be used for water charities across the world to help people who don t have access to a clean water supply. This would call for everyone who does have access to a clean tap water source, to use it and take the money that they would rather spend on a bottle and put it towards a greater cause. By choosing to drink tap water you save money daily, weekly, monthly, and annually so before you pay $2.14 for that bottle of purified water remember you have the same, if not better, quality water at your house. Another thing about tap water that is overlooked is how often we use it in our everyday lives. On average, an American family uses 300 gallons of water everyday. Now there is no way one family can drink 300 gallons of water in one day so how do they use that much? The answer is because tap water has multiple uses other than just being drinking water. HHT is an autosomal dominant disorder that is also depicted by skin and mucosal telangiectasias. We report a case of suspected HHT in a 49 year old female, with a first degree relative with HHT, and a history of recurrent epistaxis status post coiling of left and right internal maxillary arteries. Of special note, her initial hemoglobin level was 1.7, but she was alert and walking at triage. Her presentation was consistent with multiple prior admissions in the past three years. • 18. Antigone Tragic Character Analysis A tragic character is a character in a tragic play that goes through the three different stages of a tragic character. The stages of a tragic character are hamartia, peripeteia, and anagnorisis. Hamartia is the flaw in their personality that leads to their downfall. A flaw could often be, but not limited to pride, ignorance, and selfishness. Peripeteia is the characters change in fortune also leading to their downfall. This is the part in the play where the story flips to give the tragic character different circumstances. These flips are mostly out of the control of the character and decided by gods or other uncontrollable forces. Anagnorisis is the epiphany that the character has towards the end of the tragedy. This is when the tragic character realizes that their tragic flaw has led to their downfall, and their change in fortune cannot be avoided. I think that there are many characters in Antigone that could fit the criteria of a tragic character, but there is only one character that fits the description of a tragic character perfectly. Antigone is often perceived as the tragic character as the play is named after her and she is the protagonist. She does possess some of the qualities of a tragic character, but not all of them. Her hamartia, or tragic flaw is her loyalty to her family which causes her to rebel against authority. But if you were to somehow ask Antigone if she would have been less loyal to her family if the result would have been different, I almost guarantee that she wouldn t have changed a thing. Her change in fortune could be when Creon decides to put her to death because of her actions. This isn t really a change in fortune because she knew this would happen if she buried her brother. I do not think Antigone ever went through the last stage of a tragic character. She never had a realization of her mistake that led to her downfall. She was fine with taking the consequences of her actions, and found no fault in her personality or decision. She might have ended the story with suicide, but there was not a moment that she regret making the decisions that she did. Because of this, I do not think Antigone is the tragic character in the play as one might argue. I think a character that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At the international conference of nutrition (ICN) held in Rome in 1992, food security was defined in its most basic form as physical, social and economic access by all people at all times to sufficient, safe and nutritious food which meets their dietary needs and food preference for an active and healthy life. Thus, food insecurity exists when people lack access to sufficient amount of safe and nutritious food, therefore not consuming the food required for normal growth and development, for an active and healthy life. This may be due to the unavailability of food insufficient purchasing power, inappropriate distribution, or inadequate utilization at household level. Food insecurity, poor conditions of health and sanitation and inappropriate social and care environment are the major causes of poor nutritional status. People often ask me how can I be a pre professional ballet dancer and still be so clumsy. I am the product of my changing environment. Shaped by the masses, shaped by languages, shaped by the stars. Once someone said to me: Chaos before the star . There needs to be chaos for something beautiful to happen. Molecular clouds of interstellar gases and dust binding at freezing temperatures, and then a star emerges from the chaos. If I could get one dollar for every time I have embarrassed myself, I would probably be living another life accompanied by those very expensive dogs. But, if I could get one dollar for everytime that those embarrassments have turned into beautiful disasters, I would only be able to buy a handful of things at a dollar store. Those events are quite unique. Unique as in for that one day that my mother hit her head on the windshield while sneezing, which by the way was hilarious. Unique as the inspiring songs about turtles, unique as every broken heart, uniques as you, and also as unique as the day that my life changed. A large group of Tutsi exiles created a rebel group, the Rwandan Patriotic Front. The RPF(abbreviated) came into Rwanda to start a war which ended in a peace agreement in 1993. Following the civil war in Rwanda between the Tutsis and the Hutus, the Rwandan President Juvenal Habyarimana s plane was shot down near the Kigali, which also was carrying two Hutus. The Hutus blamed the RPF and began to slaughter them all immediately. It was complete devastation, people killing their friends, neighbors, and even husbands/wives who had Tutsi ID cards. • 23. Socrates And Niccolo Machiavelli Essay 1: Socrates and Machiavelli Although Socrates and Niccolo Machiavelli lived in different time periods, the political climate that their philosophies were founded on were very similar. The trial of Socrates began after the Peloponnesian War when the new Spartan Tyranny took over the Athenian government. Socrates was accused of corrupting the youth and disrespecting the gods by the Spartan government. In the eyes of the Spartan government Socrates is a gadfly because of his posing of upsetting questions directed at authorities. This posed a major threat to the new society they were trying to create in Athens after the war was over. He believed that the sovereign is primarily judged based on his success and not on the process he took to get there or the characteristics he displays. Socrates on the other hand would question the nobles until they felt inferior and encourage the government to become more virtuous, a suggestion that Machiavelli says his Prince would shut down: it is necessary that he should be prudent enough to avoid the scandal of those vices which would lose him the state, and guard himself if able to, he can indulge them with less scruple (Machiavelli 57). Machiavelli believes that in some cases it is better to harbor bad characteristics if it means protecting the state, adding to his point that the ends justify the means. Socrates was a firm believer that the pursuit of truth and perfecting the soul outweighed the privileges of being the wealthy and honorable leader that Machiavelli describes. In the ensuing years, there was a gradual drift away from ideas of non proprietary toward ideas of access to software s code level. Wikipedia.org, an open source encyclopedia, describes this conflict of terms. It was hoped that the usage of the newer term open source would eliminate such ambiguity, and would also be easier to market to business users (who might mistakenly associate free software with anti commericalism). Since its introduction, however, the open source label has been criticized for fostering an ambiguity of a different kind: that of confusing it for mere availability of the source, rather than the freedom to use, modify, and redistribute it. One of the early defects of free software was the perceived inability to use it in for profit ventures. Whereas the Free Software movement thinks of the freedom of software s code to be available to all as an ethical and social imperative, open source treats it as a practical issue. Both GPL and open source licenses can be used in for profit ventures. Copylefted material must remain free for people to modify, but can be priced for people to buy. With the advent of the term open source, it now appears that everything is open source, or is at least sold that way. Some of them are in an urgent situation and we can tolerate that there is no time to be polite but most of them, whatever they are doing, are not in a hurry. People are usually able to judge whether the rude person was in a crucial situation. It s true that it gets really frustrating to see the impolite person walk away like nothing happened when my feelings are hurt. It is becoming certain that manners and courtesies are disappearing at a rapid speed. Manners have been greatly valued and judged since the ancient times, but not anymore. People who did not keep their ways to monarchs or even to high officials were often severely punished or executed. Whenever I did something that was unmannerly, my parents punished me very harshly, usually with a long stick that I brought home with me from camping. I always regretted that I brought that stick home. Now, that I reflect on the things that I ve done to my parents, I think they made the right choice. Manners are important because they show love, gratitude, and respect toward another when practiced. They affect how we speak or act in a given situation. For example, saying thank you or please suggests that the person is feeling gratitude and respect. An individual who provided help will feel absolutely delighted and feel that is was worthwhile to give the person the help he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Characteristics Of Community Psychology Richard Henry PSY 324E October 14, 2017 A Collective Mind Before we can discuss what community psychology is, we must understand what a community is. We often view a community as a collective or randomized people, some happen to work close by, some happen to like the housing market and decided to raise a family, and some may have been in the same town for their whole lives, feeling no interest to look beyond. What is represented here, is the differences within the individuals. No two people have the same exact story, the same upbringing, the same experience. Often times, your neighbor may be nothing like you, yet you may have similarities. The similarities may come from the way you both think politically, to the teams you root for. (you notice he too, has a 12th man sticker plastered on his back windshield) Community psychology is the collection of individuals, their moralities, their viewpoints on the world and the basis in which you collectively live. For the example of different communities, I ll take Portland, Oregon, my new place of residence, versus where I am originally from, Ocean City, New Jersey. Portland is recognized as one of the more inclusive places in the world, a collection of people who look out for each other , wanting everyone to feel both welcome and equal. Many of the traditional practices established hundreds of years ago can be seen today in modern Japan and are a direct reflection of significant historical accounts. Japan is an island nation, consisting of the four large islands of Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu. Together they are approximately the size of Germany or the State of California, and it has a population of approximately 126 million people. The Japanese religion is based off of two main beliefs, the belief in Shinto and Buddhism many Japanese people believe consider themselves both. The Japanese people were known to be around as early as 4,500 B.C. They have constructed their government style to a constitutional monarchy where they do in fact have an emperor, but he has limited power within the country. The main power of the country is held by the Prime Minister of Japan. Japan is made up of many islands that extend along the Pacific coast of Asia. The land area is made up of a lot of forest and mountainous area that cannot be used for agricultural, industrial or residential use. Japan also has one of the largest and growing economies in the world. They are growing every day and it is all because the people of Japan work very hard in order for their economy to flourish as it has. Japan has a large population in relation to its land mass and as a consequence most Japanese people live crowded together in an urban corridor squeezed along the eastern edge of the Japanese islands. A result of this crowding is that Japanese place a high value on public harmony and the avoidance of any conflict, especially in public. Japanese norms require people to be willing to apologize and humble themselves, so much so that even after a minor auto accident each driver will jump out of their vehicle and bow to each other and apologize, instead of risking a very public confrontation. Frequently, Japanese will also employ the use of a go between to negotiate a possible marriage. In this way, an individual can turn down a bride or groom without rejecting them to their face, thereby avoiding open disagreement or embarrassment of an individual. The Japanese are constantly ... In plants, hormones will typically travel by vessels, diffusion across the cell, or in the air. Auxins is one of the five major classes of plant hormones. The functions of auxins include elongation of the stem, as well as promoting root growth, and another function includes acting in phototropism and gravitropism. Phototropism is essentially response to a light stimulates; gravitropism is response to gravity. Plants have the capacity to detect light and sense gravity. The cells furthest from the light have auxin which reacts to phototropism. The plant furthest from the light will have elongated cells. The auxin hormones bind to plasma membrane receptors, this will activate the proton pump. This proton pump will diffuse hydrogen ions out of the cell which in turn has many effects. • 40. Evolution Of Divorce And The Consequences It Has On Todays... For my research project, I would like to explore the evolution of divorce/marriage and the consequences it has on todays society. In todays society the definition of family has dramatically changed, both by structure and by definition. Divorce is now the norm. Today in the United States it is believed that the divorce rate hovers at about 50% and that one of every six adults divorces two or more times. Why has this become normal, and what can we do to fix this? I believe that by taking a step back and focusing on marriage, and really knowing who your marrying, we could see a significant drop in divorce and the problems developing in each generation. Divorce is never something to be taken lightly. In this paper I will examine the unfolding of divorce and how it evolved into what it is today, therefore shed some light on possibilities to undercut the still rising divorce rate. While I go through this paper I will give you a complete background on the former marriage regime and how divorce was in the past vs now. While divorce is helpful for some people it can also be a difficult and painful process for others. My goal is to not come off as one sided but to really educate you on the background of marriage and divorce and hopefully learn from our past mistakes. My position is that we need to understand the effects and the consequences of divorce so we can reevaluate how we view and define divorce, and therefore marriage. How has divorce revolutionized, what can we do to fix ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first issue is that Costco has competitors that can actually be and are a threat to their success. Competition allows a company to improve itself and prove its prowess to its customers. However, when a competitor is able to provide the service at a much reduced cost, problems will arise. As for the second issue, it seems that Costco s efforts to become an international company are moving slowly. They have not reached a point where their US and Canadian warehouses provide a backbone for their finances. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most notably, the increase from 2010 to 2011 was a staggering $9,774 in millions. Compared to the increase of $5,660 in millions from 2009 to 2010, there is a greater increase in merchandising costs that Costco should be concerned about (Thompson... 2014). These costs have been accrued through increasing gas costs for the transportation of goods and the increase in warehouses have increased preopening costs. Costco has so far been able to keep a net income possible with these increasing merchandising costs. Although if the net income is compared from 2009 to 2010 and 2010 to 2011, the amount of gain in the net income is decreasing; if left unchecked, this will become a problem. In 2009 to 2010, there was a gain of $217 million while in 2010 to 2011 there was only a gain of $157 million (Thompson... 2014). This is a smaller gain by $58 million. While it is still an increase in net income, the resulting costs of running their business have caused Costco to achieve a smaller profit margin. Recommendations: First Recommendation: In regards to key issue 1 and 2, Costco needs to lower its membership fees in order to attract new customers. Membership fees account for a small portion of their total revenue but membership numbers are how Costco makes its profits. In 2011, membership fees only accounted for 2.11% of Costco s total revenue (Thompson... 2014). Lowering the annual business membership fee from $55 down to $45 would allow more people in the ... • 42. TABC Considerations for Olive Garden Analysis Beverage Management Project #2 TABC Considerations for Olive Garden Analysis In order to offer a viable platform in which restaurants can offer alcoholic beverages as part of their drink line, the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission has created a set of guidelines which establishments must utilize in order to initiate a more responsible service to the community. According to the TABC guidelines (2014) these guidelines should clear following national, state, and local laws when offering alcohol to patrons, such as ensuring that alcoholic beverage is only served to those over age 21 (checked if they appear to be under 30), a valid Texas driver s license, or another valid identification must be used, and employees must refuse service to anyone that does not fit these criteria. However, there are also TABC guidelines (2014) which are state defined, such as the need to refuse service to anyone that appears to be intoxicated, prohibit employees from serving customers to the point of intoxication, offer mediation for intoxicated customers who wish to leave the premises in such a state, and adhere to the TABC certification regulations. A secondary goal, to this extent is also to meet the mixed beverage gross sales tax requirements at a rate of 6.7% after Jan.1, 2014 and 14% prior to Jan. 1, 2014, as well as the mixed beverage sales tax, which was implemented after Jan. 1, 2014. In order to draw more insight into the subject, the Olive Garden restaurant has looked up. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Why Huckleberry Finn Should Not Be Banned I would like to bring up the situation on banning books. In our 8th grade Language Arts class we have been assigned a project to read a banned or challenged book and determine whether or not the we think that our book should be approved or banned. I chose the book The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and discovered almost immediately why this book was banned. Over the years since has been published, many have been tried to ban this book but their attempts have never succeeded . Many of this book s readers think that this book is racist and contains inappropriate language. In fact most of the time this book has been out it has either been banned or challenged since it was first published in 1885. Editors, librarians, parents, and others ... • 44. Is There Too Much Power In The Book 1984 By George Orwell The Government has a lot more power and control over us than you may think. According to popularmechanics.com, there are an estimated 30 million surveillance cameras now deployed in the United States, shooting 4 billion hours of footage a week. Americans are being watched at all times, more than ever. George Orwell s novel 1984 is a great example to what a government would look like if it had complete surveillance and power over its citizens. The United States might not be at the same level as Big Brother in 1984 yet, but it certainly looks like it might be going in that direction. Big Brother and the party have complete control and power over its citizens in Oceania, a fictional country in 1984.The party uses telescreens in every citizen s room to monitor their every move throughout the day. Telescreens are basically big cameras that hear and see everything. This essentially takes away all the citizens of Oceania s privacy away. Nothing can be done without big brother seeing it. The United States is not much different from oceania. Cameras are now placed everywhere imaginable throughout the United ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Almost everyone in the United States has a smartphone with a camera. The cameras on smartphones are also not as safe as we think. As said in an article by Peter Maass and Megha Rajagopalan titled That s No Phone. That s My Tracker, Cellular systems constantly check and record the location of all phones on their networks and this data is particularly treasured by police departments and online advertisers . This is an example how the government can access even our smartphones. They can get private information on you if they pleased violating our right to privacy. Every year, private companies spend millions of dollars developing new services that track, store and share the words, movements and even thoughts of their customers states Paul Ohm in the article titled That s No Phone. • 45. My Speech On The Emergency Medicine Class In the summer of 2014, I thought I had life completely planned out. I was enrolled at Rowan Cabarrus Community College while still attending Mount Pleasant High School. I had just started taking my Emergency Medicine class and had already completed two thirds of my fire class. I volunteered at Northeast Cabarrus Fire Department and was so close to becoming an interior firefighter, I could taste it. I never slowed down enough to think about God s plan for me. I seemed to only care about creating my own plan and following through with it. My intentions were to graduate high school and be completely done with my education. Graduating meant I was free to spend my time chasing my dreams, but that changed on my way to my Emergency Medicine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I was overcome with an intense pain shooting from my neck to the area between my shoulders. My breathing slowed and shortly was accompanied by my low moans as I tried to squeeze little bits of air into my lungs. I could feel myself being consumed by the feeling of fire inside my chest. I passed out for what felt like a long night s sleep, to only be awakened by the sound of the ambulance and the frosty fingers holding my C spine. My precisely drawn out plan was no longer in my control; I had relinquished all rights to my plan when I agreed to join the game leap frog. That fun game of leap frog left me with broken dreams and in excruciating pain. At some point on that rainy day, I found myself consumed in complete and utter denial. It must have been after the doctors notified my parents that I had broken four thoracic vertebra; my T 1 though T 4. The doctors told me my life would never be the same because my back problems would limit my future plans. They informed me the pain I felt would go down some, but never completely subside. A couple doctors wanted to place me on a pain medicine regimen for the rest of my life. I remember the icy puddles from my tears that accumulated on my pillow, the smell of the doctor s cologne that slowly suffocated my already struggling breaths, and the sound of my mother weeping at my bedside. I took the diagnosis like a bullet; it pierced my heart and exited my body carrying my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
