Wasps And Partridges
This fable tells a story about a wasps and a partridges who overcome with thirst, came to a farmer and
besought him to give them some water to drink. They promised amply to repay him the favor which
they asked. Their words sound so attractive. In fact ,they merely said about it, and didn t do anything
practical. On the contrary, the two oxen without making any promises but they did all the things. As a
result, the farmer would rather give the water to the oxen than give the wasps and the partridges who
were only to make empty promises. In our daily life, people, whose action is the same as the wasps
and the partridges, can be seen everywhere. For example, among students, this action is prominent.

Non Profit organization
A non profit organization is an organization that generally has the aim of serving the interests of the
public. A nonprofit organization is a charitable organization that legally does not declare its profit but
rather, it goes ahead and utilizes the revenue they have accumulated after their normal operating
expenses in their services to the public interest. Therefore, the organization uses the surplus revenues
to achieve their mission and purpose rather than dividing the income among the directors as dividends
or profits.
Recently, in many countries all over the world, many nonprofit organizations have been exempted
from income tax, as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are quite some nonprofit organizations in the world that are very well known by people all over.
The top nonprofit organizations include the United Nations Children s Fund (UNICEF), Human
Rights Watch (HRW), National Public Radio (NPR), as well as the Human Rights Campaign. These
are some of the widely known and recognized nonprofit organization of the generation that we are
today. Therefore, it will be a great chance for me to give a critical outlook of one of these nonprofit
organizations. I will point out key issues in the United Nations Children s Funds that is widely
recognized (Sinuany Stern amp; Sherman, 2014).
The United Nations Children s Fund (UNICEF)
It is a nonprofit organization under the United Nations that has its headquarters in New York City.
UNICEF was established way back on December 11, 1946, by the United Nations General Assembly
(Morris, 2015). The main aim why the United Nations General Assembly created the organization was
to provide emergency food, as well as healthcare to those children that had been ruined by the Second
World War. Ludwik Rajchman was the first individual to be the chairman of the organization. Ludwik
served as chairman of the organization for a period of five years from the year 1946 to 1950 (Morris,
2015).
Initially, the organization was known as the

Racism And Mccarthyism In Orson Welles s Touch Of Evil
Orson Welles 1958 film, Touch of Evil, focuses in on some societal issues that were present during the
time period of the mid to late 1950s, and uses its narrative and distinct visual style to get the point
across. Some of these themes featured in the film include racism, McCarthyism, drug usage in border
towns, and legal hierarchies. This is done particularly with its use of borders as a metaphor for all the
activity going on in the film. The film begins with a long, tracking shot after a bomb is placed inside a
car. We follow the car and see a couple walking down the street together. Because of this choice of
shot, we are offered two vital introductions in one: We are introduced to both the inciting incident, as
well as two of the main characters. As soon as the two main characters, Susie and Mike Vargas, make
their way to the Mexican border, we are introduced to one of the many themes that will be prevalent in
the film, and that is racism. Although the border patrolmen do not seem at all phased by the sight of an
interracial couple, the cue that guides the audience to notice the undertones of racial prejudice, come
in the mise en scene. Immediately after Mike kisses his wife, the bomb goes off just several feet away
from them, using the inciting incident also as a tool to say that the general public will not agree with a
white woman being married to a Latino man. Now it is possible that I may be getting ahead of myself
when talking about racism in the film. While it

Spanking Young Children
About 60% of parents in the United States use spanking as a method to discipline their young
children. In most cases parents believe that spanking is the only effective way to discipline their
children. According to the International Encyclopedia of Marriage and Family , spanking is often
referred as; one or two flat handed swats on a child s wrist or buttocks, but would not include a
beating with a whip or a belt, for others, spanking also includes slaps and pinches to the leg, arm,
back, or even the head, as long as no marks are left . While some parents favor spanking children,
others are against spanking children because they feel that teaching them and giving them
consequences is the way method for a child to behave. I believe that ... Show more content on

With the increasing number of families that have two working parents in a family children would want
to seek attention from parents at any rate they can. If parents spank them when they misbehave,
misbehaving constantly can make them feel somehow connected with parents.
Sometimes spanking a child is necessary to bring attention to the child when they are constantly
misbehaving. Some parents believe spanking is a great way to discipline a child because they would
become more obedient. For instance, many parents use corporal punishment as a last resort, some
parents may reluctantly spank their children because they cannot think of what else to do to show the
child the seriousness of his or her misbehavior (encyclopedia, 2003) Parents use spanking a child as a
way to make children act the way they are supposed to act. Many children go wild, since they have
never received any real punishment from either parent other than just getting grounded for
misbehaving. Sometimes parents lose control of their children due to the lack of disciplinary skills.
When parents lack disciplinary skills the children tend to have control of all situations. For example, a
child may be throwing food in the kitchen when they dislike the meal the parent prepares. The parents
do not use any act of physical punishment towards the children but rather ground them when they
misbehave. The

The ID, Ego and Superego in Lord of the Flies
The exemplification of Freud s id, superego, and ego:
A look at Jack, Piggy, Simon and Ralph within The Lord of the Flies
Freud primarily subscribed to the idea that there are two energies that drive human behavior. These
two energies are sex the pleasure principle and aggression. The human mind is comprised of the
conscious, preconscious, and unconscious. Within the realms of the mind, the human personality is
controlled by the id, the ego, and the superego. The id is driven by the pleasure principle. The
superego is the instinctual moral good, which aims to please the ego ideal, or the magnified moral
values. The ego interacts with both the id and the superego and aims to please both components
(Connors). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Simon is the one boy who never participates in destructive behaviors and always contributes to the
well being of the boys. He continues to work even after everyone stops, gives Piggy food when no one
else will, and speaks his mind about the beast. He is also the only one to realize that the true beast is
inside the boys. Simon s moral compass, much like the superego, allows him to see the evil of
mankind. Simon is whole heartedly good. The superego attempts to lead a person to the morally right
pathway, much like Simon aims to show Ralph how he can do what s best for the tribe. The primitive
nature of the others overpowers Simon s internal good nature. Even after his death, Simon s moral
nature lives on through the boys similar to how the superego can continue to shine after a person
follows the desires of the id. Ralph s character embodies the ego. The ego is the rational aspect of the
mind. Ralph s rationality is exhibited in his role as leader. He focuses on the idea of being rescued and
organizes the fires as a mode of getting the attention of a rescue ship. He works on building shelters
for the members of the tribe. He attempts to keep meetings organized and establishes the role of the
conch to keep order. Ralph makes the decisions for the good of the group. He holds debates and
always aims to have the group stick together, despite Jack s constant attempts to break

Essay On A Work Of Artifice
A Work of Artifice
Marge Piercy
In the poem, A Work of Artifice, Marge Piercy by using imagery of a tended bonsai tree, as well as the
contrast between natural and tamed, she emphasizes the effect of the limits set on a being by another
being. The contrast of imagery about the bonsai tree/ in the attractive pot/ could have grown eighty
feet tall/ on the side of the mountain/ till split by lightning portrays lost potential. If the tree was left to
its own natural devices, the tree would grow strong and mighty, held up high by the side of the
mountain, weathering the storms and its life ends miraculously. However, rather than growing to its
full height, a gardener/ carefully pruned it./ It is nine inches high. This can be related to the potential

It is your nature/ to be small and cozy,/ domestic and weak; how lucky, little tree,/ to have a pot to
grow in. It s interesting that the speaker changes from talking about a bonsai tree, to talking to the

little. Yet, these qualities were not established by the tree itself, but the role assigned by the gardener.
Nevertheless, the gardener is caring for the tree by providing a safe place to grow! A pot. The pruned,
groomed, petite tree framed by an attractive pot only holds an artificial beauty. Gardeners in our own
life could be those who believe that they are benefiting yourself, but ultimately places limitations on

The Man that Was Muhammad Ali Essay
Eleanor Roosevelt once quoted The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.
Most people look at those kinds of quotes and similar to me, laugh at it because we realize that
following your dream will lead you to a high percentage of failure in life. Famous people and
programs such as Disney channel, tell us to follow our dreams and never quit. Most of the time, we
refuse to listen by switching the channel or just turning off the TV. Although, Muhammad Ali was

his fighting, political figures decided to draft him due to his useful fighting skills. Although, Ali

want to go to war to kill people. Because of this decision, Ali s heavyweight boxing title was taken
away and he was put in a five year prison sentence. Coming out of prison was hard for Ali. Because of
his racial color, he would get rejected from places such as restaurants. A lot of people turned him
down and he wasn t allowed to fight back in the ring. But, Ali didn t give up and soon found an
opportunity that brought him to become the first person in history, to win the heavyweight champion
title three times. Muhammad Ali was not only the first person in history to win the heavyweight
champion title three times, but he was also a person who never gave up his dream. We quit our dream

Indian Boarding School
The purpose of the Indian Boarding school is similar to the missionaries. It is to completely convert to
be taught the correct or acceptable way. The indigenous culture was viewed inappropriate so attending
the new structured school created this foundation of following the dominated culture. The children are
enrolled to learn more of the countries culture, rather than learning their tribe s culture or language.
One is basically removed and involved to convert into the acceptable education. The Boarding School
and original missionaries have similar tactics that are either transitioned or continued to be practiced.
When enrolled to either of these locations, the practice of their culture is inappropriate. The authority
will go to all extent to isolate from the indigenous culture and also will punish if there is anything
practiced like language or traditions. There is a new value or education system that needs to be
demonstrated and heavily imposed on the indigenous individual. The authorities of both are not

property which is an act of claim. The peacemaking model cannot be related to sexual violence
because this model is demonstrating blame. Basically states we both have the same equal
responsibility for what has been enacted. It can be worked out from both the victim and the defendant,

Genesis 11 The Tower Of Babel
Genesis 11
The Tower of Babel is a biblical story about communication and how the people of babel wanted to
create a giant tower to reach the heavens. God realized that since these people could understand each
other well enough to make a tower very quickly into humanity. That there was nothing that was going
to get in their way. So God confused their language and spread them all over the face of the earth. I
found this story very interesting and relatable to this class because it shows that if people are all
understanding anything is possible. An example of this is how the Lord put a barrier between our
communication skills that way we wouldn t become too powerful.

The Importance Of Refugee Camps
Refugee camps are temporary housing for people that are fleeing their country due to war, beliefs,
persecutions, safety, or natural disasters. Refugee camps exist all around the world, including the
United States. These camps are important because they provide a second home to people in need that
feel threatened in their home country. In today s society, refugee camps play a big role in changing one
s life. Refugee camps relate to the novel, Unwind because the Graveyard, where Connor, Risa, and
Lev stay to seek asylum from being unwound , is an example of a refugee camp. Refugee Camps have
been around for as long as the Egyptian era. One of the earliest recorded refugee camps is described in

Unlike the current resettlement programs, refugee camps are placed in a specific place, enclosed from
the public, and resettlement in the country do not start right away. On the other hand, refugees that
settle in the US start their resettlement right away. In addition, the current largest refugee camp in the
world is established in Kenya, Africa. Named Kakuma Refugee Camp, this camp is home to some
100,000 South Sudanese and 55,000 Somali refugees, most of whom were driven from their
homelands by civil war. Founded in 1922, the Kakuma Refugee Camp sits in northwestern Kenya and
houses over 180,000 refugees from nearly 20 countries. Furthermore, the camp s conditions are in a
threatening condition. Since the population is so high, food source is meager and especially difficult to
obtain for the younger ones. Equally important is the United States 45th president, Donald J. Trump.
Trump became president on January 20, 2017. He signed an executive order that suspends any and all
Syrians that are refuging into the US. He believes that by refusing all refugees to the United States, it
will stop future terrorist activity. Emma Lazarus poem The New Colossus reads, Give me your tired,
your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free. President Trump breaks the rule that
describes how the United States will accept people in need. To illustrate how refugee camps are
relevant to the novel Unwind, the Graveyard is the perfect example. The Graveyard is extremely

Ladies Of Leadership And Feminism
I joined Ladies of Leadership because I wanted to build relationships with other women of color. As

I am also interested in social justice. Specifically, inclusion of women of color in mainstream

my voice heard in the discussion of feminism. I know this struggle of feeling your voice going

Development of the Theater High Altitude Area Defense System
The United States Army has been developing and implementing systems in order to protect our nation
s national security. One of the systems the Army has added to its arsenal is the Theater High Altitude
Area Defense system (THAAD). During the Persian Gulf War, the Army identified a need for a system
that would be able to counter a theater ballistic missile attack. THAAD is designed to cover the upper
tier of the Army s two tiered theater ballistic missile defense plan (DOD Inspector General, 1995) and
is a mobile ground based theater missile defense (TMD) system that can protect military forces that
are deployed at home or abroad, population centers, and civilian assets from Theater Ballistic Missile
(TBM) attacks. THAAD engages incoming ballistic missiles and is capable of intercepting them at
high altitudes. The prime contractor selected for the project was Lockheed Martin Missiles and Space.
The project would encompass the design and materials of radars, battle management command,
control, communications, mobile launchers, interceptors and ground support equipment. The
launching system would be on a palletized loading system fitted on existing vehicles the Army has in
their inventory. THAAD s first inception was in 1992 and it would take many years for the project to
be successful. On June 28th, 2010, the 6th Air Defense Artillery Brigade from the U.S. Army and the
Missile Defense Agency was successful in conducting an intercept test (THAAD System Intercept,
2010). THAAD

health, was founded in France in 1902 by Georges Claude and Paul Delorme. Shortly after acquiring
investments from 24 shareholders within a short period, their incredible journey began (in text

primarily on Air Liquide s activities based in the United States and Canada over the past 25 years,
interviews were conducted with the following employees of the multi billion dollar corporation; Mr.
Gabriel Constantin, Mr. Slim Naanaa, Mr. M. Sundar, Mr. Benjamin Jurcik and a retired employee
who wished to remain anonymous. Their insight on their employer was very uniform regardless of the
department they work or have worked under, which perfectly illustrated the culture and overall values
instilled throughout the company. It became clear that all informants believed that constant innovation
within a company is crucial to maintain a substantial advantage over its competitors.
According to our retired informant, Air Liquide promoted their company on an international scale for
only the past 25 years by focusing on finding new purpose for the gas to improve consumers
processes. He explains that one of the main goals of research and development is to pursue related
diversification. As an example, our informant described the process by which fibreglass is made.

The Adaptation of Books and Short Stories Into Films
When discussing the adaptation of books and short stories into film, one must begin with the
understanding that adaptation can refer to two related yet distinct phenomena. The most common
definition of adaptation connotes a kind of translation, wherein a filmmakers attempts to recreate a
story more or less faithfully by translating the essential elements of the original text into a new
medium. A less frequently discussed definition for adaptation refers to a kind of evolutionary
response, wherein an organism or species changes in reaction to its environment. Film adaptations can
exhibit this same kind of change in response to outside pressures, and the degree to which they
diverge from their source texts reflects how much if this kind of adaptation is necessary. By
comparing these two kinds of adaptation one is able to see how stories are simultaneously acted upon
by the filmmaker and semi autonomously adapting to external pressures, a realization that forces one
to reexamine the common standards for what constitutes a good and a bad film adaptation. To begin, it
is necessary to further explicate the two kinds of adaptations introduced above. The first form of film
adaptation refers to the singular act of adaptation: a filmmaker adapts a story from a book into a film,
and the verb implies an attempt to translate as many of the constituent elements of the story as
possible into a different medium. In this sense of the word, adaptation refers to the external influence

With security being a big issue, we will want to make sure that the architecture document shows the
necessary aspects that make the system secure. This could be encryption algorithms or specially

will want to have a component catalog that goes through each aspect of the system and outlines what
its functionality is. Within this document, we will also want to see the types of feature that could
possibly be added to the system and where they would recommend additional components be built on.

data structure can interact with other aspects of the system. Also, the composition of these systems
allows there to be independent computational elements. This can allow several different processes to

The Pros And Cons Of Globalization
Abstract
Globalization can be viewed as a system of interactions or global relationships between economies
and people from all different countries over the world. Globalization can be contended as a device for
financial development, headway and thriving through co operation between the created and creating
nations. Those in favor of globalization argue that the advantages of globalization conveys to creating
countries outperforms the negative effects caused by globalization, and possibly even going above that
to express that it is the best bet for developing these new national to flourish and emerge. Be that as it
may, the genuine inquiry to be asked is in the matter of what degree are the positives contended upon
without considering the negative parts of globalization towards creating nations.
Globalization can be seen as a two edged sword, since it affects and influences all ages of individuals,
monetarily, politically, naturally, and socially. Globalization has its advantages, by connecting a large
number of individuals around the globe, making them presently more engaged in light of
globalization, however there are many other issues that can arise from social and financial
improvement on a global scale. Along these lines, my paper will debate that development and
advances given by globalization to developing nations is useful in here and now, yet over the long
haul, it will just bring upon negative effects and difficulties because of the obstructions included, for

Since the Eastern Enlargement, efforts to keep history alive are supported in particular by the Europe
for Citizens Programme launched in 2006. The European Commission has extended the programme to
2014 2020 , which was presented in 2011. In the renewed programme, there is a greater focus on
remembrance and hence, a critical European culture of remembrance , rather than a standardised view
on Europe s past, is argued for.
2. The development of the Europe for Citizens Programme and the actors involved
The common European values influence the narrative and the creation of a certain culture of
remembrance. In supranational context, the two memory frameworks dominating official EU
discourses for the creation of a common European historical memory are Nazism and Stalinism. These
two regimes and their policies embody an absolute contrast to the ideals embraced in the European
project: peace, freedom, democracy, the rule of law, human rights, civil liberties and the right to
individual self determination. The aim of remembrance policies is an informed and self critical
European historical memory. This is done with shared European principles and universalised practices
as a basis, while acknowledging the multiplicity of different national pasts at the same time. In other
words, it would not be a homogenisation of the contents of different collective memories, but rather a
Europeanisation of moral and political attitudes and practices

The Big Bang Theory And Steady State Theory
Introduction
There are two schools of thought relating to the creation of the universe and how the universe works.
The Big Bang Theory and the Steady State Theory are constantly compared using evidence collated
thus far by scientists and astrologists. By using this evidence, experts are creating a picture of how the
universe came about along with scenarios as to what happened in the beginning and what is happening
now. Through the use of this evidence, the schools of thought are increasingly favouring one of the
abovementioned theories.
Key Aspects of Big Bang Theory
The big bang theory is the main theory about understanding the universes life. This theory states that
the universe was once a hot dense ball of matter that exploded and scattered all of the galaxies and
stars we know today. But it also states that the galaxies are still moving away from the initial blast.
This theory is currently highly regarded because of its evidence supporting it such as Cosmic
Microwave Background Radiation (CMB) and Red shift.
Key Aspects of the Steady State Theory
The steady state theory is the other main theory that gives an explanation about the universes life. The
theory states that the universe always existed and that the density of the universe is unchanged, but
because the universe is always expanding, there are hydrogen bubbles that are created and then they
form into stars because they condense. But this theory is not highly reliable or accepted because it

Analysis Of The Movie I Like The Way You Die
I like the way you die, boy Django said to Big John Brittle as John is shot to death by Django, an
African American free slave. That scene felt very satisfying especially since Big John Brittle was
about to whip a little poor slave girl. Hitler in Inglourious Basterds was killed by a Jewish solider who
got the opportunity to shoot Hitler multiple times in the torso and face; this Jewish solider had a look
of vengeance in his eyes as he shot him. Notice how both these films have a feel good story about how
someone weak was able to kill and defeat their oppressors. Looking at Tarantino s two recently films
from 2012 and 2009, Django Unchained and Inglourious Basterds, you see that Tarantino wanted to
make a film where the setting is in history s worst timeline along with the oppressed in that timeline
take down the oppressor. This notion seems to have a direct appeal to the audience s feelings; it gives
them a sense of justice that the cruel oppressors that controlled the oppressed in that timeline got
punishment and even death by the oppressed. Tarantino more recently films, including Django
Unchained, The Hateful Eight, and Inglourious Basterds, are all set in the past with Django Unchained
and Inglourious Basterds set in history s darkest timelines. Django Unchained is set in the 19th
century in the United States when slavery was legal and African Americans were treated sub human
while Inglourious Basterds setting was during the World War II/the holocaust. Django and

A Special Effects Technician uses Computer Generated Imagery (CGI), pyrotechnics and physical
effects to create visual illusions in film, television, stage or video productions. I will attempt to explain
the major areas of work covered under the title of Special Effects Technician, the education required
and the salary expected in the field The Physical Effects Technician is the technician that works to
make props, models, scenery, prosthetics and mechanically animated pieces. The physical effects

This technique is used to layer foreground and background images based on color hues or the chroma
range. The CGI technician layers the computer modelling around the actor. Programs such as
PhotoKey 6 Pro make it possible to render the images seemlessly. Being a CGI technician requires
computer knowledge and takes hours to edit and add in the actors into the computer generated world.
An example of a seemless CGI movie is Avatar which cost $425,000,000 to make but grossed $2.7
Billion worldwide (www.the numbers.com/movie/budgets/). For every 1/24 of a second or one frame
of film it took 47 hours of rendering (www.imdb.com/title/tt0499549/trivia). There are specialized
training school for Special Effects Technicians, such as the Art institute with multiple locations across
the country and a few in California.. A College degree is not required it is common especially in the
area of CGI. A Pyrotechnician must be certified by the state that they work in and pass a Pyrotechnic
safety and handling course. The Physical Effects Technician should have a firm grasp of art styles and
art mediums. Now that we know what a Special Effects Technician does, what kind of monetary
compensation do they earn. A person can specialize in one or more areas of expertise.
Their earnings vary due to geographic location. Since a large majority of the special effects are used in
movies, California offers the highest yearly wage of $85,000 per year,New York has a range of

How Did Women Dominate The Post Office
The inner workings of the post office enabled the postal service to have a wider communication
system. Strangers were allowed to communicate with each other easily by going to the post office in
their small towns and urban cities, able to contact the outside world. Going to the post office was
something that only men had done when the postal system had been an integral and fast system of
communication for the first time in American history. It also was a place of secrecy where unexpected
encounters might have occurred. It lead the public to fear over their privacy. Women were more

Taming Of The Shrew And 10 Thing I Hate About You
Money isn t the only thing that is valuable in this world. Although in many film texts this is not the
case. Particularly in Taming of the Shrew and 10 Thing I Hate About You because in both of the films,
the main male characters Patrick and Petruchio are predominantly motivated by money. However, they
ended up falling for Kat and Katharina who have been set up as the archetypal shrews in both films.
During the Elizabethan era money was a major factor that influenced society s view of your personal
wealth. this is clearly reflected in the 1967 film text but is not evident in the 1998 version due to
changing ideologies. Subsequently,I believe that the Taming of the Shrew is more an exercise in
misogyny whereas 10 Things I hate About You is more of a love story about a man liberating a
woman, who may be seen as her equal, and who is as cunning as he is.
In both films money is considered a valuable asset depending on how it was used. For example in
Taming of the Shrew ,Petruchio marries Katharina for her money and in 10 things I hate About You ,
Patrick only runs after Kat because he knows that he is being paid to do it. This is clearly shown when
Patrick states Some cretin paid me to take out this really great girl . In The Taming of the Shrew ,
money is considered to be the main concept of society meaning that no one would care about an
individual if they were not wealthy whereas in 10 Things I Hate About You it shows that most of the

Compare And Contrast The Expansion Of The Late...
Before the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, we see the United States claiming and
expanding beyond their original borders that are even today still claimed as theirs. Even though this
expansionism had been against the Farewell Address of George Washington, it had led to established
borders we have today in the United States and added to much prosperity eventually earned in the
lands. After the Spanish American War, the United States had been growing in their amount of power
and control to the point where they were considered to be a world power. They had been conquering
more and more land and territories during the Progressive Era than ever before, this had been
considered to be a continuation of earlier expansionism of the American people and states. Some of
this expansion had been due to the help of allies, treaties, land purchases, and war. In fact, the way in
which these lands were gained had been a departure in how the expansionism of the United States
played out in both the past and present periods.

Discussion Of Abraham s Argument Against Pharoah In...
In the readings about Sarah, Abraham requests of her that she claims to be his sister. In Genesis 12
when they go to Egypt this occurs. Abraham s request of this to Sarah demonstrates a way of men
viewing women more as property than as people because Abraham was worried about other men s
desires for his wife and willingness to kill him to win her. Abraham does not seem particularly
bothered that Pharaoh claims Sarah while they are there, but then God uses his power against Pharaoh
for being involved with Sarah, so Abraham s lack of action could represent his strength in his faith that
God would do what was best for him.

Social Control In Metropolis
A great deal of fictional films and literature deal with the concept of society. Writers have played
around with the idea of societies that are different from the world we know. While some portray this in
optimistic ways and others darker, what these works have in common is the idea of social control
wherein people are forced to conform to means that are believed to benefit their society. Fritz Lang s
1927 silent film, Metropolis is an early example of this. The beginning shows machine gears and
workers marching towards a factory. This place is known as the Workers City, described to be far
below Metropolis, the city for the upper class founded by Joh Fredersen (Alfred Abel). The lives of
the workers and the rich are very different, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First of all, the set design was intricate and very detailed, especially in the factories where there were
gears and machines operating everywhere. Every inch brought the setting to life. There was a clear
distinction when switching from Metropolis to the Workers City that was seen in the scene s setting.
Moreover, the settings were given more depth by the frames and angles in which they were shot.
Many scenes would show the main subject or image centered in the frame, and this was given
emphasis with the use of dark shadows in contrary to a bright subject. Shadows indeed played a big
part in creating visuals. The technique of chiaroscuro, the contrast between light and dark comes to
mind, like in scenes that were more somber and serious (e.g. carrying the dead bodies from the
factory, Maria making prophecies about peace). In connection with the concept of angles, Fritz Lang
also had a commendable use of symmetry, which was visually appealing especially with intricately
designed sets. Lang also used lines in his shots, adding style and flair to dramatic

Gender Roles In Argentine Tango And The Music Of Native...
There are hundreds, even thousands of styles music and each style from each place has its own set of
beliefs and traditions. A common tradition and theme in music is the role of men and women and how
each gender is perceived or included in a tradition. Tango is an example of this; men are supposed to
be a strong, masculine, even virile figure who lead the effeminate, submissive female partner. Another
example of gender roles in music is in the musics of Native Americans and First Nation people where
traditionally only men were able to play the drums in the middle of the circle at large gatherings such
as powwows. There are several other instances our class discussed in which gender roles helped define
a musical tradition, but this short essay will focus primarily on gender roles within the Argentine tango

Stereotype Threat Theory And Its Effect On Society Essay
Is it possible that the way society sees a group can influence how that group performs on tests of
intelligence? According to the Stereotype Threat Theory, it can. Stereotype Threat Theory refers to the
conscious or unconscious belief that one belongs to a group stereotypically known for specific
performance deficits. The hypothesis is that these beliefs lead to suboptimal performance on tasks
specific to the stereotype (Stoet 94). Stereotype threat leads to a large gap between privileged, un
stereotyped groups and affected groups in society with regards to jobs, education, and social
interactions. This gap comes from stereotyped groups feeling they need to act in the way society tells
them to, creating societal chains on these groups, essentially an unstated law telling them what they
can and cannot do. This is because stereotype threat causes groups to identify with what society
provides their status to be Experiments show commonly stereotyped groups perform worse on
intellectual tests they are told their group generally does bad on. Therefore, commonly stereotyped
groups suffer from the stereotype threat on intellectual tests.
The planting of an idea in someone s mind can lead to that idea blooming into reality. When someone
is susceptible to being influenced by society s standards, it shows in how they handle everyday
activities. Davis hypothesized that if African American students were race primed , meaning they were
told African Americans do not do well a certain

A New Job At The Bay Harbor Yacht Club
This past summer, I landed a new job at the Bay Harbor Yacht Club. There are three restaurants that
were incorporated in the Yacht club; The Lange Center, Quarter Deck, and the Beach House. The
Beach House was where I worked at with two others. Together, we accomplished many things for
ourselves and the restaurant itself. In order to do that, we had certain unsaid rules that all three of us
abided by. At which I will bring up later on. Eventually, we became what you call an activity system.
If you do not know what an activity system is; it is groups of people doing work together, who have
common motives and processes to achieve those motives. That activity system turned us into a well
put together team just through the three months of summer. We had Karl, who was the boss/manager
of the kitchen and Josh who was the other person who ran the kitchen with me. Josh and I were not the
ones in charge but Karl always made sure that we had say in everything that happened because
ultimately, for three people to run a kitchen, you need to all agree on something. Between the three of
us, we made that place make the most members happy, and the most money throughout the summer
for the Yacht club. Not only because of how hard we worked to make sure people were satisfied but
because of how well we communicated with each other. Communication is key in every group to
succeed in their motives, especially for this activity system.

Analysis Of The Article Advertising s Twenty Basic...
Paintings aren t as interesting as they used to be. Paintings became popular during the Renaissance era
(14th century 17th century). Artists express their thoughts and emotions through their paintings.
Paintings give off many messages, and the message someone receives correlates with their mindset.
For example, the painting of the Last Supper, if viewers don t have the mindset of a Christian then
they would think everyone is mad at the guy in the middle (Jesus). Paintings are all about perception
and what the viewers can take from the image mentally.
In the article Advertising s Fifteen Basic Appeals , Jib Fowles gives the meaning of affiliation in
advertisement. Fowles states, the need to associate with others is widely invoked in advertising (para.
18). Advertisers use this technique when they want the viewers to get involved. An artist may paint an
image of a happily married couple, and this may make a single man want to be affiliated with women.
Painters use this technique to bring people together.
Also, Fowles breaks down the need to escape in advertisement. Fowles claims that advertisement
gives the viewers the need to escape when we have a desire to duck out of our obligations (para. 52).
When life becomes too oppressive we tend to seek for freedom. Many advertisements will show an
image of people who is having the time of their life to try to target people who are at a low stage in
life. Artists use transcendentalism in their paintings that make people want to

the dangerous hazards, another approach to minimize danger is to try and minimize the vulnerability

Why Is Maurice Richard Important To Canada
Maurice Richard s historical significance in Canada was due to his importance as a hockey player in
Montreal from 1942 to 1960. This was because hockey is closer to a religion than a simple sporting
pastime in Canada. It was a unifying force in a nation where one state wanted to separate from the rest
of Canada. Nevertheless hockey has had a major impact on the social, economic, cultural and political
realms of Canada. For example: in the 2014 winter Olympics, bars across the country remained open

There were already doubts about his hockey career in the media, the General Manager of the Montreal

Money was a commodity that you did not waste in the 1940 as people were just starting to recover

As an educator, living in a country where public schools are not as praised, or in the eye of the public,
are not as strong as they are in other countries, I constantly ponder about the question: what is the
purpose of public school education? Lots do not contemplate about the purpose of public schools,
forgetting that this question is probably at the base of all schooling.
As I started to dig deeper into this topic and really think about the purpose of public school education,
I took to my fellow colleagues to ask them what they think it is. The results of our discussions and
conversations were astounding, and I realized that many teachers never really took the time to think
about this. Their definitions about education in itself, as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately, many believe that what it means to educate is to train students in the main subjects,
such as Math, Science, English, and History.
However, I believe that our society is much more complicated than what is covered in these subjects. I
also believe that it is not only ineffective to force students to learn, but it is also unjust. Most people
believe that the need for a strong public school system is for social justice. They believe that the
system molds citizens into democratic citizens. Indeed, all that was mentioned are wonderful goals,
but the reality of the public school system does not reflect this ideal school system . Once we delve
into the depths of most public school systems we do not find a system that promotes democracy.
Instead we find an organization that is outdated, constructed on social hierarchies, that disregards
everything we know about effective organizations and cognitive development. We find an institution
that disempowers people, forcing them to do things against their will; all while stressing that it is for
their own good. If a modern day democratic society is a society in which people are collectively in
control of their lives and of their community, then our modern day public school system is indeed anti
democratic. (Loder, 2006)

High Costs And Risk Of War By James Fearon
James Fearon aims to shed light on the question why conflicts occur despite high costs for the actors
involved and an uncertainty of outcome. He employs a rationalist explanation with states as main
actors not the international system. The high costs and risk of war create an ex post inefficient, which
should provide motivation for rational states to find an other way of solving their differences which
would be preferable to a open conflict (Fearon 1995: 380). Yet despite the awareness of the negative
outcome and thus an incentive to avoid it, wars between states occur and this creates the central
Puzzel for Fearons theory (Fearon 1995: 383). The ex post inefficiency of war opens up an ex ante
bargaining range (Fearon 1995: 390). This bargaining range expands between the two preferred
outcome of the two opposing states. Between the two preferred outcomes a continuous range for
peaceful settlements exists (Fearon 1995: 389). Both states have a bargaining range with possible
solutions bound by expected utility of war as well as by the costs and risks of fighting (Fearon 1995:
388). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Following Fearon there are three answers in order to solve this puzzle, which will be in detail
discussed: 1) Private information about relative capabilities or resolve and incentives to misrepresent
such information (Fearon 1995: 381); 2) commitment problems (Ibid.); 3) Issue indivisibilities (Ibid.).
Anarchy and preventive wars are ruled out as rational explanations as their either do not reflect on
costs, or do not consider bargaining between states which would create a better outcome for states

Myasthenia Gravis in Pets and Companion Animals
Every muscle in your body is controlled by your nervous system. The brain sends signals, or impulses
down your spinal column and out through the nervous system controlling the contraction and
relaxation of every muscle in your body, from the ones that control your eyelids to the ones that you
use to walk and jump. The same is true for your pets and companion animals.

Over time, this incomplete or improper contraction of the muscles leads to weakness, prohibiting them
from exercising and being able to stand normally for extended periods of time. Additionally, the
condition can affect the muscles that regulate swallowing correctly and even the muscles that enable
your pet to breathe.
Congenital Versus Acquired Myasthenia Gravis
There are two basic forms of myasthenia gravis congenital and acquired. With the congenital form of
the disease, animals are born with too little of the receptors for the neurotransmitter acetylcholine.
This type of MG is very rare and has only been found in Smooth haired Fox terriers, Springer
Spaniels, and Jack Russell terriers. The acquired form of the disease is caused by a faulty immune
system and accounts for the overwhelming majority of cases. In acquired MG the affected animal s
immune system generates antibodies that attack the acetylcholine receptors in the animal s muscles.

Beethoven
The song Minute in G by Ludwig van Beethoven is a very powerful piece that gives insight to history
in a deeper way than facts but emotions. Music through history has told stories and described culture,
therefore without music there would be a gap in culture in the sense emotions could not be shared and
expressed as much. Music is universal way to express something that all can understand. Through this
piece you can gain insight on Beethoven s life and the women in the labors camps emotions.

G by Beethoven is in the form of a minuet, which is are commonly used for court balls in the
Redoutensaal in Vienna. The song has an uplifting tone. This piece, a classic of Beethoven, is very
spirited and happy. Despite the song being cheerful there is an element of calmness as while. Once
you listen to it you feel a rise of joy and peace all at once. The song reminded me of an elite ball. I feel
as if the song is trying to convey a story between two people meeting and dancing at a ball. Beethoven

The Story Of Miss And Me Essay
As the world turns, people come and go. Beginning life as a small child and eventually adopting the
ways of the older people around us and thus complete the cycle of life. In the story of Miss and Me
Mandible Bartholomew merges the mind of an adult with the body of a child who takes on a
controversial role. While the child possessed the knowledge and the sense of a full grown man he was
looked upon as a mere child who could not make wholesome decisions. This unique opportunity to
delve into what it means to be an adult and child is the crucial question being asked. Would people
rather be naïve children with no responsibilities or knowledgeable adults with worldly burdens? Being
a kid is a wonderfully blissful life, depending on the childhood you received. They are less taxing than
adult life despite most situations, and this is a big plus. Playing, eating, being sure to clean up before
meals, and fighting the authority figures that demand a curfew hour are a few concerns of a child s
role. An uncomplicated way of life that many enjoy and there are people around you to take care of
your needs. No bills, no deadlines, no major responsibilities, but no identity. Children barely have a
self concept of who they as they are generally attached to their parents for the better part of seventeen
years. Without fully understanding who they are, children cannot be a wholesome individual but
merely an extension of their parent s family. There is a huge lack of independence in

Racism And Mccarthyism In Orson Welles s Touch Of Evil Orson Welles 1958 film, Touch of Evil, focuses in on some societal issues that were present during the time period of the mid to late 1950s, and uses its narrative and distinct visual style to get the point across. Some of these themes featured in the film include racism, McCarthyism, drug usage in border towns, and legal hierarchies. This is done particularly with its use of borders as a metaphor for all the activity going on in the film. The film begins with a long, tracking shot after a bomb is placed inside a car. We follow the car and see a couple walking down the street together. Because of this choice of shot, we are offered two vital introductions in one: We are introduced to both the inciting incident, as well as two of the main characters. As soon as the two main characters, Susie and Mike Vargas, make their way to the Mexican border, we are introduced to one of the many themes that will be prevalent in the film, and that is racism. Although the border patrolmen do not seem at all phased by the sight of an interracial couple, the cue that guides the audience to notice the undertones of racial prejudice, come in the mise en scene. Immediately after Mike kisses his wife, the bomb goes off just several feet away from them, using the inciting incident also as a tool to say that the general public will not agree with a white woman being married to a Latino man. Now it is possible that I may be getting ahead of myself when talking about racism in the film. While it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With the increasing number of families that have two working parents in a family children would want to seek attention from parents at any rate they can. If parents spank them when they misbehave, misbehaving constantly can make them feel somehow connected with parents. Sometimes spanking a child is necessary to bring attention to the child when they are constantly misbehaving. Some parents believe spanking is a great way to discipline a child because they would become more obedient. For instance, many parents use corporal punishment as a last resort, some parents may reluctantly spank their children because they cannot think of what else to do to show the child the seriousness of his or her misbehavior (encyclopedia, 2003) Parents use spanking a child as a way to make children act the way they are supposed to act. Many children go wild, since they have never received any real punishment from either parent other than just getting grounded for misbehaving. Sometimes parents lose control of their children due to the lack of disciplinary skills. When parents lack disciplinary skills the children tend to have control of all situations. For example, a child may be throwing food in the kitchen when they dislike the meal the parent prepares. The parents do not use any act of physical punishment towards the children but rather ground them when they misbehave. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The ID, Ego and Superego in Lord of the Flies The exemplification of Freud s id, superego, and ego: A look at Jack, Piggy, Simon and Ralph within The Lord of the Flies Freud primarily subscribed to the idea that there are two energies that drive human behavior. These two energies are sex the pleasure principle and aggression. The human mind is comprised of the conscious, preconscious, and unconscious. Within the realms of the mind, the human personality is controlled by the id, the ego, and the superego. The id is driven by the pleasure principle. The superego is the instinctual moral good, which aims to please the ego ideal, or the magnified moral values. Simon s moral compass, much like the superego, allows him to see the evil of mankind. Simon is whole heartedly good. • 13. Development of the Theater High Altitude Area Defense System The United States Army has been developing and implementing systems in order to protect our nation s national security. One of the systems the Army has added to its arsenal is the Theater High Altitude Area Defense system (THAAD). During the Persian Gulf War, the Army identified a need for a system that would be able to counter a theater ballistic missile attack. THAAD is designed to cover the upper tier of the Army s two tiered theater ballistic missile defense plan (DOD Inspector General, 1995) and is a mobile ground based theater missile defense (TMD) system that can protect military forces that are deployed at home or abroad, population centers, and civilian assets from Theater Ballistic Missile (TBM) attacks. THAAD engages incoming ballistic missiles and is capable of intercepting them at high altitudes. The prime contractor selected for the project was Lockheed Martin Missiles and Space. The project would encompass the design and materials of radars, battle management command, control, communications, mobile launchers, interceptors and ground support equipment. The launching system would be on a palletized loading system fitted on existing vehicles the Army has in their inventory. • 15. The Adaptation of Books and Short Stories Into Films When discussing the adaptation of books and short stories into film, one must begin with the understanding that adaptation can refer to two related yet distinct phenomena. The most common definition of adaptation connotes a kind of translation, wherein a filmmakers attempts to recreate a story more or less faithfully by translating the essential elements of the original text into a new medium. A less frequently discussed definition for adaptation refers to a kind of evolutionary response, wherein an organism or species changes in reaction to its environment. Film adaptations can exhibit this same kind of change in response to outside pressures, and the degree to which they diverge from their source texts reflects how much if this kind of adaptation is necessary. By comparing these two kinds of adaptation one is able to see how stories are simultaneously acted upon by the filmmaker and semi autonomously adapting to external pressures, a realization that forces one to reexamine the common standards for what constitutes a good and a bad film adaptation. To begin, it is necessary to further explicate the two kinds of adaptations introduced above. The first form of film adaptation refers to the singular act of adaptation: a filmmaker adapts a story from a book into a film, and the verb implies an attempt to translate as many of the constituent elements of the story as possible into a different medium. In this sense of the word, adaptation refers to the external influence the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the renewed programme, there is a greater focus on remembrance and hence, a critical European culture of remembrance , rather than a standardised view on Europe s past, is argued for. 2. • 20. The Big Bang Theory And Steady State Theory Introduction There are two schools of thought relating to the creation of the universe and how the universe works. The Big Bang Theory and the Steady State Theory are constantly compared using evidence collated thus far by scientists and astrologists. By using this evidence, experts are creating a picture of how the universe came about along with scenarios as to what happened in the beginning and what is happening now. Through the use of this evidence, the schools of thought are increasingly favouring one of the abovementioned theories. Key Aspects of Big Bang Theory The big bang theory is the main theory about understanding the universes life. This theory states that the universe was once a hot dense ball of matter that exploded and scattered all of the galaxies and stars we know today. But it also states that the galaxies are still moving away from the initial blast. This theory is currently highly regarded because of its evidence supporting it such as Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation (CMB) and Red shift. Key Aspects of the Steady State Theory The steady state theory is the other main theory that gives an explanation about the universes life. The theory states that the universe always existed and that the density of the universe is unchanged, but because the universe is always expanding, there are hydrogen bubbles that are created and then they form into stars because they condense. Hitler in Inglourious Basterds was killed by a Jewish solider who got the opportunity to shoot Hitler multiple times in the torso and face; this Jewish solider had a look of vengeance in his eyes as he shot him. Notice how both these films have a feel good story about how someone weak was able to kill and defeat their oppressors. However, they ended up falling for Kat and Katharina who have been set up as the archetypal shrews in both films. During the Elizabethan era money was a major factor that influenced society s view of your personal wealth. this is clearly reflected in the 1967 film text but is not evident in the 1998 version due to changing ideologies. Subsequently,I believe that the Taming of the Shrew is more an exercise in misogyny whereas 10 Things I hate About You is more of a love story about a man liberating a woman, who may be seen as her equal, and who is as cunning as he is. In both films money is considered a valuable asset depending on how it was used. For example in Taming of the Shrew ,Petruchio marries Katharina for her money and in 10 things I hate About You , Patrick only runs after Kat because he knows that he is being paid to do it. This is clearly shown when Patrick states Some cretin paid me to take out this really great girl . After the Spanish American War, the United States had been growing in their amount of power and control to the point where they were considered to be a world power. They had been conquering more and more land and territories during the Progressive Era than ever before, this had been considered to be a continuation of earlier expansionism of the American people and states. Some of this expansion had been due to the help of allies, treaties, land purchases, and war. In fact, the way in which these lands were gained had been a departure in how the expansionism of the United States played out in both the past and present periods. • 30. Discussion Of Abraham s Argument Against Pharoah In... In the readings about Sarah, Abraham requests of her that she claims to be his sister. In Genesis 12 when they go to Egypt this occurs. Abraham s request of this to Sarah demonstrates a way of men viewing women more as property than as people because Abraham was worried about other men s desires for his wife and willingness to kill him to win her. Abraham does not seem particularly bothered that Pharaoh claims Sarah while they are there, but then God uses his power against Pharaoh for being involved with Sarah, so Abraham s lack of action could represent his strength in his faith that God would do what was best for him. • 31. Social Control In Metropolis A great deal of fictional films and literature deal with the concept of society. Writers have played around with the idea of societies that are different from the world we know. While some portray this in optimistic ways and others darker, what these works have in common is the idea of social control wherein people are forced to conform to means that are believed to benefit their society. Fritz Lang s 1927 silent film, Metropolis is an early example of this. The beginning shows machine gears and workers marching towards a factory. This place is known as the Workers City, described to be far below Metropolis, the city for the upper class founded by Joh Fredersen (Alfred Abel). First of all, the set design was intricate and very detailed, especially in the factories where there were gears and machines operating everywhere. Every inch brought the setting to life. There was a clear distinction when switching from Metropolis to the Workers City that was seen in the scene s setting. Moreover, the settings were given more depth by the frames and angles in which they were shot. Many scenes would show the main subject or image centered in the frame, and this was given emphasis with the use of dark shadows in contrary to a bright subject. Shadows indeed played a big part in creating visuals. The technique of chiaroscuro, the contrast between light and dark comes to mind, like in scenes that were more somber and serious (e.g. carrying the dead bodies from the factory, Maria making prophecies about peace). In connection with the concept of angles, Fritz Lang also had a commendable use of symmetry, which was visually appealing especially with intricately designed sets. A common tradition and theme in music is the role of men and women and how each gender is perceived or included in a tradition. Tango is an example of this; men are supposed to be a strong, masculine, even virile figure who lead the effeminate, submissive female partner. Another example of gender roles in music is in the musics of Native Americans and First Nation people where traditionally only men were able to play the drums in the middle of the circle at large gatherings such as powwows. • 34. Stereotype Threat Theory And Its Effect On Society Essay Is it possible that the way society sees a group can influence how that group performs on tests of intelligence? According to the Stereotype Threat Theory, it can. Stereotype Threat Theory refers to the conscious or unconscious belief that one belongs to a group stereotypically known for specific performance deficits. The hypothesis is that these beliefs lead to suboptimal performance on tasks specific to the stereotype (Stoet 94). Stereotype threat leads to a large gap between privileged, un stereotyped groups and affected groups in society with regards to jobs, education, and social interactions. This gap comes from stereotyped groups feeling they need to act in the way society tells them to, creating societal chains on these groups, essentially an unstated law telling them what they can and cannot do. This is because stereotype threat causes groups to identify with what society provides their status to be Experiments show commonly stereotyped groups perform worse on intellectual tests they are told their group generally does bad on. Therefore, commonly stereotyped groups suffer from the stereotype threat on intellectual tests. The planting of an idea in someone s mind can lead to that idea blooming into reality. • 36. Analysis Of The Article Advertising s Twenty Basic... Paintings aren t as interesting as they used to be. Paintings became popular during the Renaissance era (14th century 17th century). Artists express their thoughts and emotions through their paintings. Paintings give off many messages, and the message someone receives correlates with their mindset. For example, the painting of the Last Supper, if viewers don t have the mindset of a Christian then they would think everyone is mad at the guy in the middle (Jesus). Paintings are all about perception and what the viewers can take from the image mentally. In the article Advertising s Fifteen Basic Appeals , Jib Fowles gives the meaning of affiliation in advertisement. Fowles states, the need to associate with others is widely invoked in advertising (para. 18). Advertisers use this technique when they want the viewers to get involved. An artist may paint an image of a happily married couple, and this may make a single man want to be affiliated with women. Painters use this technique to bring people together. Also, Fowles breaks down the need to escape in advertisement. Fowles claims that advertisement gives the viewers the need to escape when we have a desire to duck out of our obligations (para. 52). When life becomes too oppressive we tend to seek for freedom. Many advertisements will show an image of people who is having the time of their life to try to target people who are at a low stage in life. • 43. High Costs And Risk Of War By James Fearon James Fearon aims to shed light on the question why conflicts occur despite high costs for the actors involved and an uncertainty of outcome. He employs a rationalist explanation with states as main actors not the international system. The high costs and risk of war create an ex post inefficient, which should provide motivation for rational states to find an other way of solving their differences which would be preferable to a open conflict (Fearon 1995: 380). Yet despite the awareness of the negative outcome and thus an incentive to avoid it, wars between states occur and this creates the central Puzzel for Fearons theory (Fearon 1995: 383). The ex post inefficiency of war opens up an ex ante bargaining range (Fearon 1995: 390). This bargaining range expands between the two preferred outcome of the two opposing states. Between the two preferred outcomes a continuous range for peaceful settlements exists (Fearon 1995: 389).
