WHAT IS MULTIPLEXER???
 Multiplexer isadevicethat hasmultiple
inputs and asingleline output.
 Theselect lines determine which input is
connected to output andalsoto increase
the amount of datathat canbesentover a
network with certaintime.
 It iscalled as dataselector.
MULTIPLEXER TYPES
1. 2-1 Multiplexer(1 selectline)
2. 4-1 Multiplexer(2 selectline)
3. 8-1 Multiplexer(3 selectline)
4. 16-1 Multiplexer(4 selectline)
4 to 1 multiplexer
APPLICATIONS OF MULTIPLEXER
 CommunicationSystem:
 Acommunication systemhasa great impact by
multiplexer.
 By usingamultiplexer, the efficiency canbe
increased.
 ComputerMemory:
 Multiplexers are usedin computer memory.
 Reduces copper lines to connect the memory
to other parts of the computer.
TelephoneNetwork:
 In telephone networks, multiple audio
signalsare integrated.
Transmission from theComputer
of a Satellite :
 Multiplexer isusedto transmit the
data signals.
 From satellite to ground
 By usingGSM satellite.
APPLICATIONS OF MULTIPLEXER
WHAT IS DEMULTIPLEXER???
 De-multiplexer is also adevice with
one input and multiple output lines.
It is used to send asignal to one of the
many devices.The main difference
between amultiplexer and ade-
multiplexer isthat amultiplexer takes
two or more signals and encodes
them on a wire, whereas ade-
multiplexer does reverse to what the
multiplexer does.
TYPES OF DEMULTIPLEXER
De-multiplexers are classified into
four types :
 1-2 demultiplexer(1 select line)
 1-4 demultiplexer(2 select lines)
 1-8 demultiplexer(3 select lines)
 1-16 demultiplexer (4 select lines)

APPLICATIONS OF DEMULTIPLEXER
CommunicationSystem :
 DE multiplexer receivessignal outputs from the
multiplexer.
 At the receiver end it converts them backto the
original form.
 ArithmeticLogicUnit (ALU) :
 The output of the ALUis fed asan input to the DE
multiplexer.
 And the output of the DE multiplexer is
connected to amultiple register.
Seriestoparallelconverter:
 Thisconverter is usedto
reconstruct parallel data.
 Serial data is given as an
input to the DE
multiplexer ataregular
interval.
 Acounter is attached to
detect the data signal.

  • 7. WHAT IS DEMULTIPLEXER???  De-multiplexer is also adevice with one input and multiple output lines. It is used to send asignal to one of the many devices.The main difference between amultiplexer and ade- multiplexer isthat amultiplexer takes two or more signals and encodes them on a wire, whereas ade- multiplexer does reverse to what the multiplexer does.
