This document discusses alternative fuels that can be used in spark ignition (SI) and compression ignition (CI) engines, including alcohols, vegetable oils, biodiesel, biogas, natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas, and hydrogen. It provides information on the properties, suitability, and required engine modifications for using these alternative fuels, as well as their combustion and emission characteristics in SI and CI engines. Experimental results are also presented that compare the performance and emissions of engines running on alternative fuels versus traditional fuels.
