Sherman Vs Germany
In World War II many tanks from all the nations were used in combat, but some of them were
better and some were worse than others. Focusing on two major tanks of WWII, the American M4
Sherman and the German PanzerKampfwagenVI or more commonly known as the Tiger tank we
are going to see which one comes out on top. The reasoning for choosing these two tanks to
compare is a simple explanation, and that is because these tanks were very common in the war and
both tanks fought against each other on the battlefield so it is important to take the information
from the war to see how they stack up. During World War II America s Sherman tanks were not as
well constructed compared to Germanys Tiger tanks because of the time and specialized
engineering that Germany put into their tanks.
German Production
When the war began, Hitler had mass produced many tanks to fight against the Soviets. One tank
being the Panzer 1. This was a light tank that was fast to make and easy to maneuver. But the
problem was that it was only armed with machine guns. Hitler thought the ... Show more content on

Some of the features that made the Tiger bad were things just as simple as speed. The Tiger had
a slow moving turret so if a Sherman was moving around it, the tank would have a hard time
trying to lock on target. With big tanks comes a big problem as the majority of Tiger tanks
produced did not get destroyed by the Allies, but rather destroyed by themselves. The weight of the
Tiger made it more likely to get bogged down in the mud. It was harder to maneuver the tank
through obstacles. And when the crew realized the tank is stuck or immobilized, they would
destroy the tank themselves with explosives to prevent the tank from getting captured or used
against them. The Tigers main 88mm gun could penetrate 110mm of the armor at a range of 2,000
meters, which would punch right through the 64mm of armor of a

Sherman Alexie Indian Tribe
According to the Webster Dictionary, a tribe is a social division in a traditional society
consisting of families or communities linked by social, economic, religious or blood ties, with a
common culture and dialect. In Sherman Alexie s novel, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part
Time Indian, in the chapter Remembering Arnold list all the tribes that he belongs to. He says, I
was a Spokane Indian. I belonged to that tribe. But I also belonged to the tribe of American
immigrants. And the tribe of basketball players . . . (Alexie 217). His two most important tribes
that he identifies with are the tribe of poverty and the tribe of boys who miss their best friends.

But just like Arnold we all can relate to being a part of a tribe. As for me, I am a part of the tribe
of teenage girls, tribe of being adopted and the tribe of lovers of tattoos and piercings. However,
my most important tribe that I belong to is the tribe of only daughter and just like Arnold, the
tribe of girls who miss their best friend. Having to face being the only daughter, being poor, and
missing a best friend can really shape you as a person whether it be good or bad. Throughout
majority of the book Arnold talks about how much he misses his best friend Rowdy, and wants
nothing more but to get their friendship back. Rowdy and Arnold were longtime friends.
Rowdy would protect and watch after Arnold because everyone on the rez picked on him for
having disabilities. Arnold would be save as long as Rowdy was around, because everyone
feared Rowdy. Arnold thought they would be friends forever, that was until Arnold announced
that he would be leaving the rez to attend Reardan High School. Rowdy hated him for that. He felt
like Arnold was betraying him by leaving him for the whit people at his new school. In fact, when
Rowdy realized that Arnold was serious about leaving the rez, he screamed and

The Botany Of Desire By Michael Pollan
In the novel, The Botany of Desire, Michael Pollan tells the intriguing story of how plants are
domesticated from the perspective of the plant with regards to four specific plants.. The four
plants he chose for discussion are the apple, the tulip, marijuana, and the potato. As he discusses
the domestication of these plants, his overall focus is the desire that each of these plants have to
us as humans. Pollan has written books and magazine articles among other pieces of literature that
discuss the relationship between plants and humans. Throughout this informational text, Pollan
tries to keep the perspective from the plant s eye view of the world, but he often slips into Pollan
s eye view of the world. As he talks about experiences that he has had with each of these plants
and gives a little bit of their history, it was often hard to stay focused on the topic that he was
trying to convey. However, I found that the perspectives that Pollan brings up are interesting to
think about. The Botany of Desirewas an interesting journal type informational novel that didn t
quite live up to my expectations of what it could have been. Pollan begins by telling the story of
the lives of four plants. The theme he tries to keep throughout the novel is that human desires
connect us to these plants. One of the theories he states is that the plant has to want to work with us
just as much as we want to work with it. Through the stories of the four plants, he tells of the
experiences

Essay Liberalism vs. Conservatism
Democratic representatives scream about right wing conspiracy while radio talk shows lament the
evil of liberal agenda. News broadcasters are branded as chauvinist conservatives by Hollywood
pundits or liberal bigots by Christian broadcasting. Everywhere someone is firing the label gun
plastering liberal or conservative on their opponents and many Americans are scratching their heads
trying to understand the division and difference between both.
Liberalism, formed in the latter part of the 18th Century from opposition to existing political
monarchies in Europe, was based on rights of individuals and the responsibility of government to
protect those rights. Conservative philosophy was born as a reaction to dangerous tendencies ...

Conservatives challenged this idea with the traditional concept of individualism. To achieve and
contribute to American society each member should be held responsible for their actions, increase
their education, and work to foster basic traditional beliefs of love for country and family, self
discipline in the young, and a unfaltering faith in God.
Today the basic ideals of liberalism have been distorted into principals that can only result in
destruction of the traditions and values America was founded on. Liberals, through President
Johnson s plan and support of the NEA, gained control of the educational system. Today public
schools (government schools) disregard basic educational standards producing graduating students
without basic math and reading skills. Conservatives turn away from government schools in
disgust and home school programs are increasing across America. And guess what...teaching
traditional values result in higher achievements for those students. To eliminate poverty liberals
have increased taxes at every opportunity they are given. Our welfare program today is based on
Johnson s own statement, The game plan is to tax the country s producers for the benefit of those
that don t produce. And look where that philosophy has taken us. The welfare rolls are filled with
individuals that base their life on welfare checks. Now

Credit Card Vs. Credit Cards
In today s economy cash or a credit card is needed to meet the basic human need. It is a clear fact
that we need cash or credit to purchase items such as food, clothing, to pay bills, as well as buy
gas for our daily travels. However, when you are out shopping and discover that you have used all
the cash in your possession, which is when we realize that the benefit of having a credit cardis very
beneficial. Although cash and credit cards are similar in that, they both are used to pay for
goods and service. Both can be useful for the card user when they are managed wisely. While
both cash and credit card share several differences that can affect the individuals who have them
such as being stolen, high interest rate, and personal identity. With cash you are limited to the
amount that is in your wallet or purse, unlike with a credit card, you are allowed to pay for your
purchase at a later date. Both cash and credit cards are similar in that they both are easy to carry
around, and used to pay for goods and service at the time of purchase. When making a purchase
using cash, the items are paid for in full. Cash is broadly accepted in every establishment such as
department s stores, food chains, grocery stories, as well as schools and more. Moreover, using
your moneyto pay monthly bills carries significant benefits such as increasing your credit rating.
Same as with cash, when buying with a credit card it allows you to pay for all your items in full as
well. Equally,

Project Approach Advantages And Disadvantages
The project approach enables children to emerge in projects which they are interested in, in
order to encourage them to raise and ask questions while teachers will provide materials and
allow children to find answers by themselves rather than telling them the answer directly. For
example, if children wonder where breads come from, or how they are made, teachers may
arrange a field trip where they can find the answers by asking an experienced baker from a bakery,
or staff from the supermarket, and such. Children are also encouraged to use modern technology
like the internet to search for answers under adult supervision or through the traditional way of
going to the library and look for relevant books. A project investigation promotes in depth... Show

The main challenge of the project approach is that teachers need to know children very well in
order to be able to understand and fulfill their curiosity. It requires a lot of time and dedications to
learn and understand each child s individual strength and interests. Another challenge is part of the
planning. Although there is no assigned topic as it is based on children s interest, the teacher has
to make sure there is unity and cohesiveness which every child in class can appreciate at the same
time and not only favoring a certain child s interest. As various interests are developed, teachers
have to keep the communication focused on the value of each group s equal contribution in terms
of knowledge and understanding of the chosen topic by all children in class.
To conclude, despite the challenges project approach face, it is a great way to develop in depth
thinking while engaging the heart and minds of young children. Project work offers a wide variety
of opportunities for young children s ideas to be appreciated, their creativity to be encouraged, their
interests to be fostered, and for their learning needs to be met in order to develop a life long love of
learning and understand the interconnected relationship of all things. These are the unique
characteristics of project

This is Representative Mohan speaking for the first time today. As always, I m at the leisure of
the chamber, Mr. Speaker, and the judges. Please give me a nod when ready. Saying these words,
I walk up to the front of the room, place my name placard on the lectern, and let out a short
breath of excitement. In my head, I tell myself, They ll never be ready for this , just enough self
affirmation to get my anxious as usual self amped up before I deliver an impassioned speech in

Failure Of The Schlieffen Plan During World War I
The Schlieffen Plan What the Schlieffen Plan Was This is a vast oversimplification but the
Schlieffen Plan was Germany s plan to invade France and Russia during WW1. It was conceived
in 1903 by Germany s Chief of staff Alfred Von Schlieffen and was revised in 1905 almost 9
years before the war. Why it Failed There are three main reasons the Schlieffen Plan failed. The
first being the invasion of France through Belgium this wouldn t have been a problem if for one
reason; Belgium was allied to one of the major European powers the British. They couldn t have
invaded anywhere else due to Frances incredibly militarized border with the Germans. The second
reason being that the Schlieffen plan relied on being executed very quickly

Joan Of Arc Argument
Joan of Arc was a young woman who came from very humble roots, and eventually overcame
these roots through God in order to fight for war torn France. In Donald Spoto s, Joan: The
Mysterious Life of the Heretic Who Became a Saint, Joan is portrayed as having many visions
from God telling her what to do, and eventually following them which began to prove France
wrong about women in battle. After many victorious battles, she was captured, locked up in a cell
and held for ransom until Cauchon, who was trying to eliminate the king in power in France and
gain the bishop position at Rouen, bought Joan, and charged her for being a heretic. She was found
guilty on these charges and burned at the stake, all with unbroken faith. Joan s conviction... Show

These principles can most likely be seen present day through the Principles of Catholic Social
Teaching, which many who read about Joan of Arc would argue were nonexistent at this time due
to the atrocities that were committed against her this is wrong. The website for the United
States Conference of Catholic Bishops states that, God reveals himself to us as one who is not
alone, but rather as one who is relational, one who is Trinity ( Catholic Social Teaching ). I
believe this is where the teachings relate to Joan because throughout her life, God is constantly
showing her that she is not alone by guiding her through each battle that she faces. Her story of
everlasting faith promotes the teachings and gives true backing to them that would otherwise
be nonexistent. I believe that it is very anachronistic to view modern social teachings and try to
apply them to medieval times because society and cultural norms were so different. To try to
apply these teachings to medieval times would be like giving Joan of Arc an iPhone and telling
her to make a call, she would have no idea what those words even meant or the context in which
you used them, and the same is for the teachings. The ideas of dignity and respect have changed
so much over the years that medieval people would be very surprised at the kinds of rights, and
the ideas that religious society has today, especially considering that not everyone today is
religious. I believe these ideas would not even have really been introduced to them, especially in
such mass amounts of

Buchnera Aphidicol Southern Blot Analysis
Aphids possess bacteriocytes that are specific to its obligate mutualist, Buchnera aphidicola. It
seems that this genus has lost genes that are essential to its life. Through Southern Blot analysis,
Nikoh and Nakabachi have shown that these lost genes are actually encoded in the aphid genome.
Through detailed structural and phylogenetic analyses, the full length sequences of these transcripts
were determined. This demonstrated that these transcripts are indeed significantly similar to
multiple bacterial genes. While the Buchnera no longer possess these genes, other similar bacteria
(E. Coli) possess these genes. Nikoh and Nakabachi were able to conclude that they found several
pieces of evidence that show that aphids are indeed able to acquire genes from bacteria through
lateral genetransfer. They also claim that these genes are used to maintain their obligate mutualistic
relationship with the bacteria,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
show similar results in another study. The same species as the one mentioned before, Buchnera
aphidicola has a highly reduced genome, which increases the chances that gene transfer occurred
from the bacteria to the aphid. Using the pea aphid, Acyrthosiphon pisum, they were able to provide
stronger support of the transfer of 12 genes from the bacteria to the aphid genome. While they were
able to identify this transfer between the pea aphid and the bacteria, they found that none of these
genes were transferred between Buchnera and the aphid, just like in the previous study. Sandstrom
et al. looked at different ways this gene transfer could have occurred. Insects in general usually host
secondary bacterial symbionts along with primary endosymbionts. Both symbionts are maternally
transmitted. Their results showed that a community of bacteria invades aphid cells and are
transmitted both vertically and horizontally among other aphid lineages. They present other
potential possibilities of transfer through ingestion from plant surfaces and plant

Paternity Leave Benefits
Paternity Leave
As of 2015 less than 20% of employers offer paid paternity leave. This low number is staggering
when you look at all the benefits that come from a new father being at home with his newborn. The
benefits to employers alone should send that number skyrocketing. Paid paternity leave promotes
better child cognitive development, allows for faster recovery for the mother, and makes for better
employees. Paid paternity leave should be a benefit provided by every company in the United
States for all full time employees and would prove to be a profit for the company. Fathers attach to
their babies in the way similar to mothers and at the same time, making it important for new dads to

This allows employees to take up to 12 weeks of un paid leave. It helps balance work and family
life without the fear of losing their jobs and benefits. The leave is easy to get if you are a full
time employee of a company that has more than 50 employees, has 20 or more work weeks, and
you live within 75 miles of your job. It is illegal for an employer to discriminate against an
employee that has taken leave, but Federal law requires at least 30 days notice to the employer. If
your work doesn t offer paid paternity leave this is one option you have. Another is to use up any
vacation and/or PTO. When you put everything together you can see that the long term financial
benefits of paid paternity leave greatly outweigh the short term economic costs for any employer.
Letting the father create such a close bond with the child produces such enormous benefits it is
inconceivable that more employers aren t getting on board with it. I hope that in the future more
employers will see the financial, emotional, and mental benefits and incorporate paid leave for new

The Iliad And The Book Of Genesis
Amidst themes of suffering, war, violence, and sin, the characters of both the Iliad and the book of
Genesis strive to live and define their lives as their own. The women in particular best exemplify
this struggle as they contend not only with the circumstances to which they are born into, but must
also grapple will the role they play in their society and how their actions influence the greater fate
of their people. Within the Iliad, Andromache s role as a womanand wife to a warrior during war
contributes to her actions unintentionally furthering the moira of her husband and ultimately the
fall of Troy. On the other hand, Rebekah drives the plot of Genesis by using her intelligence to

It is Andromache s role and nature as a woman who exemplifies the soft side of human relations
that paradoxically reminds Hector of his duty to fight and hastens the fall of both Hector and Troy.
Pitted against the other worldly forces of gods and fate, Andromache demonstrates a desperate
struggle to subvert the inevitable loss of Hector and the fall of Troy. Her role as the wife of
Hector places her within the supposed safety of Troy s walls as her husband fights on the front
lines. Her role predominantly as the wife of Hector, renowned warrior and prince of Troy,
creates a sense of constant worry and urgent anxiety in each of her three main dialogues. Each of
these dialogues occur in accordance to the life of Hector one being before his death, one shortly
after his death, and the last at Hector s funeral. The placement of each of these dialogues
demonstrate the importance of the relationship between the two and, furthermore, emphasizes the
potential effects of Hector s loss. The most moving interaction that epitomizes the tragedy of
Andromache s battle between action vs. fate can be observed in her plea to Hector to leave the
front lines. She appeals to his role as a family man the provider to his beloved wife and father to
his son (Ill 6.427 490). However, the tragedy in this interaction is that the more Andromache
attempts to persuade Hector, the more decisive Hector becomes

357). Factors that add to employee dissatisfaction include: company policy and administration,
supervision, salary, interpersonal relations, and working conditions (Starling, 2011, p. 357).
According to this theory, simply eliminating job dissatisfiers is not enough, what truly motivates
employees more effectively are job satisfiers. In order to motivate employees, managers should
lessen the amount of dissatisfiers and increase the amount of satisfiers (Starling, 2011). Luckily in
this case, the privatization of health benefits falls under the dissatisfiers of company policy and
administration. Therefore, even though the employees are upset with the decision to privatize, the
human resources director can still motivate employees by lessening the other dissatisfiers and by
focusing more on increasing the satisfiers for employees such as giving them more recognition and
responsibility. Following the idea of satisfaction in the workplace, even though the city has the
ability to implement whichever policy it prefers regardless of the employees thoughts that does not
imply that the city should take this route. Employees are motivated when management includes
them in the decision making process. According to the human relations approach, workers are more

Artificial Intellegence and Home Automation

tasks that keep the house in order. A master system that controls climate, security, appliances, and
domestic robots was implemented to help make families lives easier. We concluded that AI systems

Suddenly society has a workforce of robots and humans are out of jobs because robots are
cheaper and more reliable. AI is supposed to learn to act at or above Human performance levels
(7). This definition in itself scares people knowing that the purpose of these machines is to be as
smart as and eventually smarter than Humans. AI systems could help people live their lives by
completing mundane tasks and help automate tasks. Imagine a house that can wake people up,
start coffee, start the dishwasher, drier and wash machines, and clean the house by just hitting a
few keys on a keypad. Many people would choose this option over a house that cannot. By
making peoples lives easier, it allows them to spend less time doing mundane chores, and more
time spending time with loved ones. An example of a similar system would be the system
developed by the University of Grenada to help senior citizens remember to take their

In the late 1700 s, Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, two of the most unliked rulers of Paris had
somewhat important role during the French Revolution. King Louis was not prepared for the task

Louis XVI, last king of france before the French Revolution, was not loved nor adored during his

named Louis Auguste de France. Louis was the third son of Louis, Dauphin of France and

lacked enough strength of character and decisiveness to fight the influence of court or give support

The Scene I Of Act IIi
Throughout the evolution of a theme and seven variations as well as a two part fugue, Berg
explores the possibilities of various numeric significances and an ever evolving harmonic and
melodic vocabulary. By presenting the audience with a familiar formal structure Berg is then
free to more openly manipulate and change other variables such as using non functional
harmonies and unresolved melodic passages. He combines both dramatic and musical
foreshadowing to create a visual and aural experience for the listener that is while always being
conscious with what would be too overwhelming to the audience. Berg creates an opera ripe with
symbolism and significance. The introspective Scene I of Act III is no exception. The scene
opens with Marie in her continued struggle through life, attempting to find solace in her bible.
The audience is presented with her frantic behavior in this scene and further observes how the
plot will finally unfold, a sad and unfortunate end. Musically, Berg paints this surrealism
wonderfully, and through his recurring methods and musical vocabulary, ties the scene together.
Following two bars of silence, the scene opens with a descending fourth figure that gradually
evolves into an ascending third figure in m.6. The four opening notes of the scene, G D F Eb,
form a 0146, which is an all interval tetrachord. On top of this linear tetrachord a solo cello

Relationship Between Depression And A Shadow

night only made the shadowstronger. He described depressionas a broken feeling; he had cracks

Obama Pros And Cons Government Shutdown
The word on the hill is that if Republicans don t cave and fund Obama s DHS amnesty scheme
that they will be blamed by the people and pay for it at the polls. Where have we heard that
before? Back in 2013 the government was partially shutdown for 16 days over funding fight that
centered around Obamacare. Republicans eventually folded and Barry got his boondoggle fully
funded. The argument at the time was that Republicans would be blamed for the shutdown and
2014 would be a disaster, even to the point of Democrats retaking control of the House. Of course,
we know what happened. A historic ass kicking by the Repubs not only increased their numbers in
the House, but gave them the Senate. Fast forward to 2015 where a DHS bill that includes Obama s

Professional Evaluation
Introduction
Professional evaluation are much needed assessments for all mental health professionals. These
evaluations are critical of keeping supervisees in boundaries with their clients, identify the clinician
s blind spots, discus area of practiced that may be deemed difficult, and establishes a support to
avoid professional burnout. Clinical supervisors has the responsibility of identifying areas of the
supervisees that may need attention for improvement. With the accessibility of supervision, senior
clinical colleagues can coach, mentor, and assist junior mental health professionals with a stimulus
of enhancements needed to further develop their quality of care.

The Idea Of The Self-Made Man By Pamela Laid
I found Pamela Laird s essay very interesting, and while I ve never subscribed to the idea of a self
made man , I never considered how the notion could be harmful. The concept of the self made
man states that most people can get where they want to be with hard work and a good
entrepreneurial spirit. This idea exemplifies the idea of the American Dream, and creates the
illusion of an America where anyone, regardless of ethnicity, gender, or economic background
could become the next Steve Jobs or Andrew Carnegie. Laird argues that self made success can, at
least in part, be attributed to an economic, political or social advantage. She makes an excellent
argument on how individualism can harm both the individual and the collective. The idea of the
self made man can first be seen during the Protestant Reformation, where people begin to drift
away from the idea that they aren t in control of their circumstances, which were instead dependent
on God. Benjamin Franklin was a very popular model of self made success which inspires
entrepreneurs even today. Thomas Mellon, the founder of the Mellon Bank, looked up to Franklin
for his ambition and aimed to amass wealthfrom Franklin s ideas of self improvement. However,
Franklin spoke about self improvement for the purpose of community and individual growth, and
not for material gain. Franklin, along with United States Representative Alney McLean, used the
idea of the self made man to encourage people to better themselves, gain

The Sandy Hook Elementary School Shooting

They had their entire lives ahead of them birthdays, graduations, weddings, kids of their own.
Among the fallen were also teachers, men and women who devoted their lives to helping our
children fulfill their dreams ( STUDENT NEWS ). One morning in Newtown, Connecticut, many
children and staff of Sandy Hook Elementary were ready to begin their daily routine of attending
school, or work. Unfortunately, they were not aware that this would be the last time they do so.
The shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary ended the lives of several staff and young children. This
devastating tragedy added fuel to the controversial gun argument. Parents of the children lobbied to
pass gun reform laws which would help provide safety for citizens and prevent awful events similar
to this from occurring in the future.
The Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting occurred on December 14, 2012, in Newtown,
Connecticut, when 20 year old Adam Lanza shot twenty children and six adult staff members (
Sandy Hook Elementary School Shooting ). It was the deadliest mass shooting at a high school or
grade school in U.S. history and the second deadliest mass shooting by a single person in
America ( Screening Sandy Hook ). Several families lost a loved one all due to someone s
selfishness to provoke harm to many innocent lives. At some point before he went to the school,
investigators believe Adam Lanza, killed his mother, Nancy Lanza ( Sandy Hook Shooting:

The Terrorist Organizations
The vast array of terrorist organizations that exist around the world have varying ideologies,
financial assets, command structures and power. Most of the world is aware of very few of these
groups and are often only able to identify organizations that have committed very destructive and
deadly attacks on citizens of western nations. Nearly everyone knows about Al Qaeda, the Taliban
and Hezbollah because their intentions are well publicized and they have successfully struck fear
into many groups. While these organizations are important to examine when studying terrorism, it is
more important that we look at all the groups that data have been collected for to find out how
terrorist groups work, their power and what factors are key to their continuing existence. The
definition of terrorism for this study will remain very broad as the data was pulled together
from several different sources to create one large data set.* To account for this, the definition
used will be Terrorism is violence, or the threat of violence, calculated to create an atmosphere of
fear and alarm. These acts are designed to coerce others into actions they would not otherwise
undertake, or refrain from actions they desired to take. This may need to be relaxed slightly as it
was the definition used for the original dataset and this paper uses data from the newest set that is
yet to be published. The strength of organizations is a topic that is highly contested and discussed
among scholars because

Electric Motors And The Future Of Electric Motors
Flick the switch and the lights usually comes on. This involves a but ton of electricity. Our past
ancestors would love to have these electric motors that we have today. You will find these
motors from everything to electric trains and remote controlled cars. As an example we will use
a computer. They usually have two but the biggest ones can have up to 12. They usually are
used from the fan to cool it down and the hard drive. These motors are in everything we use these
days. From the fans we use to the hair dryers to dry our hair. Without these we would still have
horses and buggies. It s sad that we use these things everyday and take them for granted. These
little motors have six parts: Armature or rotor, commutator, brushes, axle, field magnet, and DC
power supply of some sort. Most electric motors operate through the interaction between an
electric motor s magnetic field and winding currents to generate force. In certain applications,
such as in regenerative braking with traction motors in the transportation industry, electric
motors can also be used in reverse as generators to convert mechanical energy into electric power.
Found in applications as diverse as industrial fans, blowers and pumps, machine tools, household
appliances, power tools, and disk drives, electric motors can be powered by direct current
sources, such as from batteries, motor vehicles or rectifiers, or by alternating current sources, such
as from the power grid, inverters or generators. Small motors may be found in electric watches.
General purpose motors with highly standardized dimensions and characteristics provide
convenient mechanical power for industrial use. The largest of electric motors are used for ship
propulsion, pipeline compression and pumped storage applications with ratings reaching 100
megawatts. Electric motors may be classified by electric power source type, internal construction,
application, type of motion output, and so on. Thomas Davenport developed the first real electric
motor although Joseph Henry and Michael Faraday created early motion devices using
electromagnetic fields. The early motor created spinning disks or levers that rocked back and forth.
These devices could not do any work for humankind but were

Critical Analysis Of Alexis De Tocqueville s Democracy In...
Throughout the course of the semester, we spent numerous hours as a class learning, analyzing,
and discussing about various tyrannical powers, equality vs inequality, freedom vs enslavement,
the visible dangers of government and society, along with other crucial themes that involve
societies back then till societies today. It was not until we got have way through the semester,
that we acknowledged one philosopher s work more than anyone else s. His name was Alexis De
Tocqueville and he was most notably known for being a French diplomat, a political scientist and a
famous historian. We spent over a quarter of our semester discussing his work Democracyin
America because it was possibly one of the most accurate representations of our culture. Honestly,
at first glance I would have disagreed with most Tocqueville s ideas and opinions. Until, I
examined his beliefs further and realized how correct he was. He managed to pinpoint America s
democracy perfectly, along with managing the risk that come with it. His emphasis throughout the
book, is the obliviousness of the American people towards the negative effects that democracy has
on one s culture, while also offering solutions to the problem, so we can become civilized and
humanized people instead of being industrial animals.
In the middle of his novel, Tocqueville makes this major claim I do not say that at the present time
frequent use is made of tyranny in America I say, No guarantee against [tyranny] may be discovered

Bad Leadership And The Us Border Patrol
ABSTRACT
Why does bad leadership exist? Bad leadership indeed exists in the US Border Patrol is a
question that I have wondered about for many years. What has been done to fix the problem and if
any programs have been created to develop good and efficient leaders for the future. This paper
sought a definition of bad leadership, and compiled a taxonomy of eighteen types of poor leaders.
This research serves as a review of poor leadership in the US Border Patrol. Why does it exists, why
it is tolerated and what impact positive leadership may have on this problem.

Deaf Again By Mark Drolsbaugh
After reading Deaf Again I learned a lot of new things about Deaf culture and was drawn in by
the story of Mark Drolsbaugh. The hardest fight a man has to fight is to live in a world where
every single day someone is trying to make you someone you do not want to be e.e cummings. I
was brought into the book immediately from this quote and realized how difficult it must have
been for Mark to find his identity. He was trying to hang on to his hearing in fear of going deaf as
if there was something wrong or not proper with being deaf. It took him a long time, twenty three

Speech On Life Without Technology
Our lives without technology
Have you ever imagined a life without technology? A life without a smartphone to communicate,
research information or express our emotion in a social network?
Everybody knows that if we did not have the technology around us, our lives would be completely
different at one point that we will have to learn to live without it. Our lives without technology
would be similar to live in the XX century in terms of real communication, lives in danger and
without things that help us every day.
In the past did not exist technology to communicate or research information for the homework.
They use books to research information, those big ones that maybe you had in your house and
you never realise. To communicate, they usually do it by letter. In 1970 according to

Persuasive Essay On Deforestation
Deforestation Every day we use paper, and every day we sit on or use furniture that is made of
wood. Look around you, how many things are not made out of wood? Deforestation is the
destruction or removal of forests. In fact, 50,000 trees are being cut down every minute. The issue
deforestation links directly with the issues of air pollution, loss of animal habitats and climate
change as well as several health problems. Deforestation can be solved if everyone helped, but
not everyone has the same perspective. For example, some world leaders like Donald Trump do
not believe that climate change is an issue, and a lot of people do not care about deforestation
because they are unaware or because they do not care about anything beside themselves. I became
interested in this topic after knowing that in countries where deforestation is a bigger issue, people
are less healthy. Although Canada does not struggle with deforestation as much compared to China
and the US, I do not want the same to happen.
One issue that deforestation causes is extinction the permanent loss of species. Each species is
unique and different but most share the same home: the forest. While others say that logging
creates jobs and lowers the risk of uncontrollable wildfires, what about all the animals? Where
will they go when they no longer have a home? According to experts, 99% of all existing species
that have ever existed are now gone. The loss of species may result in environmental
repercussion. All living things are connected, if the connection is broken, nature would no longer
be balanced. The government need to raise awareness of citizens, a possible solution to this
would be hempcrete. Hemprete is a material made of weed, lime and water that can be used as a
substitute for wood in houses. This method can save a lot of trees, since 44% of wood goes to
construction. Second of all, deforestation has many unexpected effects to the environment and may
result in negative consequences such as climate change. Tree protect the soil from erosion, they
produce oxygen and store carbon dioxide along with purifying the air and controlling the climate.
When forests are cut down, the carbon stored in the trees will be released back into the

temple every once in awhile, but he has never asked any of us to go with him, nor have we asked
him. In the future I would like to go, because I want to see Judaism in a more formal way, rather
than just in my house. I feel very lucky that I am educated about the Jewish culture, because it tends
to get overlooked in today s society. Through celebrating the Jewish holidays like Rosh Hashanah,
Passover, and Yom Kippur, I have been introduced to many new types of foods, traditions, and
prayers. One of my favorite Jewish traditions happens during Passover. The tradition consists of
my dad hiding the afikomen, which is a half piece of matzo, the unleavened bread typically eaten
during Passover. The tradition brought so much joy to my siblings and me because we tried to
watch my dad very carefully to see where he hid it, but he somehow always found a way to hide
it without us knowing when and where he did so. After the traditional Passover meal was
finished, my siblings and I would race up out of our chairs to go wildly search for it. Whichever
kid found it first was given a prize, and it was usually a few bucks, so we were always very
competitive in trying to find it. Eventually, I wasn t allowed to look for it anymore because I got
too old, which I found very unfair, but my brother and sister loved it because now they had a
better chance of finding it first. My dad loves carrying out this tradition, because it reminds him of

Employees Under Surveillance
Whether employees should be under surveillance or not of their employers will always remain a
debatable topic. In my opinion, however, I would support this phenomenon instead of opposing it
due to some analytical reasons which I shall be explaining in detail.
1) Workers/Employees might alter their behaviour if they will be told about the inspection. This
will not show the fair results of the monitoring.
Two researchers, Elton Mayo and Flitz Rothlisberger, carried out an experiment in 1920s. In 1927,
researchers were trying to determine the optimal amount of lighting, temperature, and humidity for
assembling electronic components at Western Electric s Hawthorne plant. The results showed that
lighting had no consistent effect on production. Researchers were frustrated to discover that ... Show

Secret monitoring will only cleanse the dirt out of the work force (the corrupt employees) whereas
the ethical employees will never know about the fact that they are being monitored secretly. They
will have a sense of privacy and belonging towards the organization. They will feel bonded and
trusted this way and they will work even more efficiently.
5) Surveillance in workplace, you might be amazed at what your boss can legitimately do.
Managers can lawfully screen practically anything a representative does at work the length of the
explanation behind checking is sufficiently essential to the business.
Bosses may introduce camcorders, read postal mail and email, screen telephone and PC use, use
GPS following, and that s just the beginning. The explanation behind a specific kind of working
environment observation must be more imperative than a representative s desire of security to be
lawfully reasonable. For instance, a business doubtlessly would not have an adequate motivation to
screen a locker room yet would be permitted to screen discussions amongst clients and client
administration

The Major Sports at Mandelbaum are Baseball, Basketball,...
As we moved on history, depending on the period of time that we find ourselves in, a particular
sport would be important as people relate their lives into it. Mandelbaum focus on three different
sports and three different time periods, to show us their relationship. He states that, sports come to
play an important role in our lives as we are able relate and find a significance that represent and
fits our lives. This is the explanation Mandelbaum reaches when we tries to explain why Americans
had become ardent fans of sports. The three major American sports that Mandelbaum focus on are
baseball, football and basketball. This sports had been chosen for America because they embody
three major stages in American culture. Baseball represents the agrarian period, football the
industrial revolutionand basketball the new innovative and modern society.
Mandelbaum dedicates a complete chapter for each of the three sports. In each chapter he explains
the history, rules and culture as references to demonstrate the importance of each sport to the past
as well as the message they give to their fans. By analyzing the period time and the history of each
game, he correlates even that help us demonstrate the importance each game had in their
corresponding period. As well as the idea of merit, in where everyone is equal. By showing us
how people became attractive to a particular sport, Mandelbaum s ideas were becoming clearer.

Fine Art And Commercial Art
Fine Art and Commercial Art With rapid economic growth and improving technologies, many
artists are increasingly become interested in commercial art. This trend is mainly influence by the
fact that the financial gains in commercial art are much greater than in fine art. Since the designers
are instructed on what to do by their clients, their level of creativity and ingenuity is minimized.
This is partially attributed to the fact that many people have misunderstood the true meaning of
fine art. However, other factors include market preferences and tastes. The corporate world wants
to produce products and services that will be easily understood and liked by the public.

In this case, the artist is hired and is subjected to the employers preferences and constraints. In most
cases, the artists are not credited for the work. The main purpose of commercial art is
communication. A commercial artist organizes information in an effective visual presentation to
portray the virtues of a particular service or product. In most cases the employers hire commercial
artists to create advertisements, animations and illustrations, which conveys a message intended for
consumers. Communication is therefore decisively important in this field. Conversely, the
definition of fine art has been generally misunderstood to mean artistic works that are of high
quality. However, an important aspect that should be included in the definition of fine art is that the
artists adhere to the purity of their style or discipline. This implies that fine art should be judged
based on its aesthetic value, meaningfulness and beauty. Notably, unlike commercial artists, fine
artists are self motivated and decide on what they want the artwork to look like. Furthermore, they
are motivated by the desire to express their ideologies rather that communication. Due to the
lucrative nature of art commercialization, many fine artists prefer to practice both disciplines.

Illegal immigration Over the past few years illegal immigration has become a bigger problem.
Statistics reveal that more and more immigrants are entering the country illegally by crossing
the borders. If something is not done soon, this may get out of hand and be to gone far not to
handle. The number of illegal immigrants have gone up over the past years drastically In 2011,
there were 40 million immigrants in the U.S. Of that 11.1 million were illegal. Although the
number of illegal immigrants has leveled off it still is a continuing problem that should be
attended to. In the next few years the number of illegal immigrants will continue to increase.
United Nations reported that 97% of the illegal immigrants who enter the U.S. Clandestinely
across the nearly 2,000 mile Mexico border, but only 20% of those are caught. This proves that
our border is our weakest link of our security system . This proves that immigrants are crossing
the border into the U.S. And getting away with it. To prevent this something needs to be done and
improve and strengthen the the Mexico border soon. With more and more illegal immigrants
entering the country, the number of immigrants will continue to climb and crime rates will rise
also. If something is not done soon it will eventually become to big of a problem to handle.

Fresh Fruit, Broken Bodies, By Seth Holmes
What do we expect as a life of a Mexican migrant? The American public consistently listens to the
media to these people crossing the border illegally, which is deemed as a crime. They see these
people as stealing American jobs and benefiting from government programs such as welfare.
Countless people think it was voluntary for them to come to the United State, therefore they
deserve whatever comes their way, either health problems, racism or low paying jobs. However,
what countless American people don t realize is that the majority of Mexican migrants are forced
to migrate to the United State to survive. They constantly risk their lives to cross a dangerous
border in order to find the jobs that the American people don t want to endure. In the book called
Fresh Fruit, Broken Bodies, the author, Seth Holmes focus on the lives of an indigenous Mexican
group called the Triquis. Throughout the book, he focuses on the journey of the group from their
hometown in Oaxacato farms in California and Washington. The book also emphasizes on how
racism and health problems of migrant workers have become invisible. Their health problems and
their social status in the social hierarchy are blamed on themselves because they decided to come
to a place where they are seen as illegal aliens. Instead of blaming the Triqui people of their
sickness, health care facilities need to treat them without judgement, address what exactly their
sickness is as well as its structural causes. Mexican migrant

Essay about Transformation of Japan
Transformation of Japan
During the time period between the 1850s and 1950s, Japan underwent massive changes politically,
economically, and socially. Acknowledging the failure of isolation, Japan imitated the West in an
attempt to modernize, however, still retaining its own identity. A reorganized and more centralized
government allowed Japan to industrialize in half the time it took the nations of Western Europe.
Industrialization provided Japan with the tools needed to transform itself from a half civilized and
backwards society during isolation, to a dominating superpower during WWII.

army at Edo Bay to coerce the Japanese ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Japan entered the race for colonies. Japan became imperialist after 1890 due to the need to pay
the new army, search for raw materials and new resources, and avoid Western intrusion of Japan s
possessions. Japan quickly defeated China in the Sino Japanese War in 1895 gaining territory in
northern China. In 1902, Japan allied itself with Britain, demonstrating the arrival of Japan as an
equal to the Western powers. In 1904, Japan won the Russo Japanese war on account of its
superior navy. In 1910, Japan annexed Korea. Economically, Korea was economically exploited.
The Great depression called for radical measures, which included military aggression. Japanese
military played a major role in setting diplomatic policy. The military was separate from the
bureaucracy and adhered to the emperor. The military saw Japan s liberalism as a threat to
traditional Japanese values and customs and the military s position in the government. In 1931, the
military captured Manchuria without government approval. In 1932, several military officials
assassinated the prime minister. As a result, a mildly military government was created as
militaristic prime ministers presided. The militaristic prime ministers called for expansion in Asia
to create an empire. The demand for wider conquests by the military drove Japan to enter WWII.
After WWII, Japan was devastated by war, but the aid of the U.S. allowed them to recover quickly.

  • 2. Sherman Vs Germany In World War II many tanks from all the nations were used in combat, but some of them were better and some were worse than others. Focusing on two major tanks of WWII, the American M4 Sherman and the German PanzerKampfwagenVI or more commonly known as the Tiger tank we are going to see which one comes out on top. The reasoning for choosing these two tanks to compare is a simple explanation, and that is because these tanks were very common in the war and both tanks fought against each other on the battlefield so it is important to take the information from the war to see how they stack up. During World War II America s Sherman tanks were not as well constructed compared to Germanys Tiger tanks because of the time and specialized engineering that Germany put into their tanks. German Production When the war began, Hitler had mass produced many tanks to fight against the Soviets. One tank being the Panzer 1. This was a light tank that was fast to make and easy to maneuver. But the problem was that it was only armed with machine guns. Hitler thought the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of the features that made the Tiger bad were things just as simple as speed. The Tiger had a slow moving turret so if a Sherman was moving around it, the tank would have a hard time trying to lock on target. With big tanks comes a big problem as the majority of Tiger tanks produced did not get destroyed by the Allies, but rather destroyed by themselves. The weight of the Tiger made it more likely to get bogged down in the mud. It was harder to maneuver the tank through obstacles. And when the crew realized the tank is stuck or immobilized, they would destroy the tank themselves with explosives to prevent the tank from getting captured or used against them. The Tigers main 88mm gun could penetrate 110mm of the armor at a range of 2,000 meters, which would punch right through the 64mm of armor of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Sherman Alexie Indian Tribe According to the Webster Dictionary, a tribe is a social division in a traditional society consisting of families or communities linked by social, economic, religious or blood ties, with a common culture and dialect. In Sherman Alexie s novel, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian, in the chapter Remembering Arnold list all the tribes that he belongs to. He says, I was a Spokane Indian. I belonged to that tribe. But I also belonged to the tribe of American immigrants. And the tribe of basketball players . . . (Alexie 217). His two most important tribes that he identifies with are the tribe of poverty and the tribe of boys who miss their best friends. But just like Arnold we all can relate to being a part of a tribe. As for me, I am a part of the tribe of teenage girls, tribe of being adopted and the tribe of lovers of tattoos and piercings. However, my most important tribe that I belong to is the tribe of only daughter and just like Arnold, the tribe of girls who miss their best friend. Having to face being the only daughter, being poor, and missing a best friend can really shape you as a person whether it be good or bad. Throughout majority of the book Arnold talks about how much he misses his best friend Rowdy, and wants nothing more but to get their friendship back. Rowdy and Arnold were longtime friends. Rowdy would protect and watch after Arnold because everyone on the rez picked on him for having disabilities. Arnold would be save as long as Rowdy was around, because everyone feared Rowdy. Arnold thought they would be friends forever, that was until Arnold announced that he would be leaving the rez to attend Reardan High School. Rowdy hated him for that. He felt like Arnold was betraying him by leaving him for the whit people at his new school. In fact, when Rowdy realized that Arnold was serious about leaving the rez, he screamed and ... • 4. The Botany Of Desire By Michael Pollan In the novel, The Botany of Desire, Michael Pollan tells the intriguing story of how plants are domesticated from the perspective of the plant with regards to four specific plants.. The four plants he chose for discussion are the apple, the tulip, marijuana, and the potato. As he discusses the domestication of these plants, his overall focus is the desire that each of these plants have to us as humans. Pollan has written books and magazine articles among other pieces of literature that discuss the relationship between plants and humans. Throughout this informational text, Pollan tries to keep the perspective from the plant s eye view of the world, but he often slips into Pollan s eye view of the world. As he talks about experiences that he has had with each of these plants and gives a little bit of their history, it was often hard to stay focused on the topic that he was trying to convey. However, I found that the perspectives that Pollan brings up are interesting to think about. The Botany of Desirewas an interesting journal type informational novel that didn t quite live up to my expectations of what it could have been. Pollan begins by telling the story of the lives of four plants. The theme he tries to keep throughout the novel is that human desires connect us to these plants. One of the theories he states is that the plant has to want to work with us just as much as we want to work with it. Through the stories of the four plants, he tells of the experiences ... • 5. Essay Liberalism vs. Conservatism Democratic representatives scream about right wing conspiracy while radio talk shows lament the evil of liberal agenda. News broadcasters are branded as chauvinist conservatives by Hollywood pundits or liberal bigots by Christian broadcasting. Everywhere someone is firing the label gun plastering liberal or conservative on their opponents and many Americans are scratching their heads trying to understand the division and difference between both. Liberalism, formed in the latter part of the 18th Century from opposition to existing political monarchies in Europe, was based on rights of individuals and the responsibility of government to protect those rights. Conservative philosophy was born as a reaction to dangerous tendencies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Conservatives challenged this idea with the traditional concept of individualism. To achieve and contribute to American society each member should be held responsible for their actions, increase their education, and work to foster basic traditional beliefs of love for country and family, self discipline in the young, and a unfaltering faith in God. Today the basic ideals of liberalism have been distorted into principals that can only result in destruction of the traditions and values America was founded on. Liberals, through President Johnson s plan and support of the NEA, gained control of the educational system. Today public schools (government schools) disregard basic educational standards producing graduating students without basic math and reading skills. Conservatives turn away from government schools in disgust and home school programs are increasing across America. And guess what...teaching traditional values result in higher achievements for those students. To eliminate poverty liberals have increased taxes at every opportunity they are given. Our welfare program today is based on Johnson s own statement, The game plan is to tax the country s producers for the benefit of those that don t produce. And look where that philosophy has taken us. The welfare rolls are filled with individuals that base their life on welfare checks. Now ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Credit Card Vs. Credit Cards In today s economy cash or a credit card is needed to meet the basic human need. It is a clear fact that we need cash or credit to purchase items such as food, clothing, to pay bills, as well as buy gas for our daily travels. However, when you are out shopping and discover that you have used all the cash in your possession, which is when we realize that the benefit of having a credit cardis very beneficial. Although cash and credit cards are similar in that, they both are used to pay for goods and service. Both can be useful for the card user when they are managed wisely. While both cash and credit card share several differences that can affect the individuals who have them such as being stolen, high interest rate, and personal identity. With cash you are limited to the amount that is in your wallet or purse, unlike with a credit card, you are allowed to pay for your purchase at a later date. Both cash and credit cards are similar in that they both are easy to carry around, and used to pay for goods and service at the time of purchase. When making a purchase using cash, the items are paid for in full. Cash is broadly accepted in every establishment such as department s stores, food chains, grocery stories, as well as schools and more. Moreover, using your moneyto pay monthly bills carries significant benefits such as increasing your credit rating. Same as with cash, when buying with a credit card it allows you to pay for all your items in full as well. Equally, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Project Approach Advantages And Disadvantages The project approach enables children to emerge in projects which they are interested in, in order to encourage them to raise and ask questions while teachers will provide materials and allow children to find answers by themselves rather than telling them the answer directly. For example, if children wonder where breads come from, or how they are made, teachers may arrange a field trip where they can find the answers by asking an experienced baker from a bakery, or staff from the supermarket, and such. Children are also encouraged to use modern technology like the internet to search for answers under adult supervision or through the traditional way of going to the library and look for relevant books. A project investigation promotes in depth... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main challenge of the project approach is that teachers need to know children very well in order to be able to understand and fulfill their curiosity. It requires a lot of time and dedications to learn and understand each child s individual strength and interests. Another challenge is part of the planning. Although there is no assigned topic as it is based on children s interest, the teacher has to make sure there is unity and cohesiveness which every child in class can appreciate at the same time and not only favoring a certain child s interest. As various interests are developed, teachers have to keep the communication focused on the value of each group s equal contribution in terms of knowledge and understanding of the chosen topic by all children in class. To conclude, despite the challenges project approach face, it is a great way to develop in depth thinking while engaging the heart and minds of young children. Project work offers a wide variety of opportunities for young children s ideas to be appreciated, their creativity to be encouraged, their interests to be fostered, and for their learning needs to be met in order to develop a life long love of learning and understand the interconnected relationship of all things. Failure Of The Schlieffen Plan During World War I The Schlieffen Plan What the Schlieffen Plan Was This is a vast oversimplification but the Schlieffen Plan was Germany s plan to invade France and Russia during WW1. It was conceived in 1903 by Germany s Chief of staff Alfred Von Schlieffen and was revised in 1905 almost 9 years before the war. Why it Failed There are three main reasons the Schlieffen Plan failed. The first being the invasion of France through Belgium this wouldn t have been a problem if for one reason; Belgium was allied to one of the major European powers the British. They couldn t have invaded anywhere else due to Frances incredibly militarized border with the Germans. The second reason being that the Schlieffen plan relied on being executed very quickly ... In Donald Spoto s, Joan: The Mysterious Life of the Heretic Who Became a Saint, Joan is portrayed as having many visions from God telling her what to do, and eventually following them which began to prove France wrong about women in battle. After many victorious battles, she was captured, locked up in a cell and held for ransom until Cauchon, who was trying to eliminate the king in power in France and gain the bishop position at Rouen, bought Joan, and charged her for being a heretic. She was found guilty on these charges and burned at the stake, all with unbroken faith. Joan s conviction... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These principles can most likely be seen present day through the Principles of Catholic Social Teaching, which many who read about Joan of Arc would argue were nonexistent at this time due to the atrocities that were committed against her this is wrong. The website for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops states that, God reveals himself to us as one who is not alone, but rather as one who is relational, one who is Trinity ( Catholic Social Teaching ). I believe this is where the teachings relate to Joan because throughout her life, God is constantly showing her that she is not alone by guiding her through each battle that she faces. Her story of everlasting faith promotes the teachings and gives true backing to them that would otherwise be nonexistent. I believe that it is very anachronistic to view modern social teachings and try to apply them to medieval times because society and cultural norms were so different. To try to apply these teachings to medieval times would be like giving Joan of Arc an iPhone and telling her to make a call, she would have no idea what those words even meant or the context in which you used them, and the same is for the teachings. The ideas of dignity and respect have changed so much over the years that medieval people would be very surprised at the kinds of rights, and the ideas that religious society has today, especially considering that not everyone today is religious. I believe these ideas would not even have really been introduced to them, especially in such mass amounts of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Buchnera Aphidicol Southern Blot Analysis Aphids possess bacteriocytes that are specific to its obligate mutualist, Buchnera aphidicola. It seems that this genus has lost genes that are essential to its life. Through Southern Blot analysis, Nikoh and Nakabachi have shown that these lost genes are actually encoded in the aphid genome. Through detailed structural and phylogenetic analyses, the full length sequences of these transcripts were determined. This demonstrated that these transcripts are indeed significantly similar to multiple bacterial genes. While the Buchnera no longer possess these genes, other similar bacteria (E. Coli) possess these genes. Nikoh and Nakabachi were able to conclude that they found several pieces of evidence that show that aphids are indeed able to acquire genes from bacteria through lateral genetransfer. They also claim that these genes are used to maintain their obligate mutualistic relationship with the bacteria,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... show similar results in another study. The same species as the one mentioned before, Buchnera aphidicola has a highly reduced genome, which increases the chances that gene transfer occurred from the bacteria to the aphid. Using the pea aphid, Acyrthosiphon pisum, they were able to provide stronger support of the transfer of 12 genes from the bacteria to the aphid genome. While they were able to identify this transfer between the pea aphid and the bacteria, they found that none of these genes were transferred between Buchnera and the aphid, just like in the previous study. Sandstrom et al. looked at different ways this gene transfer could have occurred. Insects in general usually host secondary bacterial symbionts along with primary endosymbionts. Both symbionts are maternally transmitted. Their results showed that a community of bacteria invades aphid cells and are transmitted both vertically and horizontally among other aphid lineages. They present other potential possibilities of transfer through ingestion from plant surfaces and plant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Paternity Leave Benefits Paternity Leave As of 2015 less than 20% of employers offer paid paternity leave. This low number is staggering when you look at all the benefits that come from a new father being at home with his newborn. The benefits to employers alone should send that number skyrocketing. Paid paternity leave promotes better child cognitive development, allows for faster recovery for the mother, and makes for better employees. Paid paternity leave should be a benefit provided by every company in the United States for all full time employees and would prove to be a profit for the company. It is illegal for an employer to discriminate against an employee that has taken leave, but Federal law requires at least 30 days notice to the employer. If your work doesn t offer paid paternity leave this is one option you have. Another is to use up any vacation and/or PTO. When you put everything together you can see that the long term financial benefits of paid paternity leave greatly outweigh the short term economic costs for any employer. The Iliad And The Book Of Genesis Amidst themes of suffering, war, violence, and sin, the characters of both the Iliad and the book of Genesis strive to live and define their lives as their own. The women in particular best exemplify this struggle as they contend not only with the circumstances to which they are born into, but must also grapple will the role they play in their society and how their actions influence the greater fate of their people. Within the Iliad, Andromache s role as a womanand wife to a warrior during war contributes to her actions unintentionally furthering the moira of her husband and ultimately the fall of Troy. It is Andromache s role and nature as a woman who exemplifies the soft side of human relations that paradoxically reminds Hector of his duty to fight and hastens the fall of both Hector and Troy. Pitted against the other worldly forces of gods and fate, Andromache demonstrates a desperate struggle to subvert the inevitable loss of Hector and the fall of Troy. Her role as the wife of Hector places her within the supposed safety of Troy s walls as her husband fights on the front lines. Her role predominantly as the wife of Hector, renowned warrior and prince of Troy, creates a sense of constant worry and urgent anxiety in each of her three main dialogues. Each of these dialogues occur in accordance to the life of Hector one being before his death, one shortly after his death, and the last at Hector s funeral. The placement of each of these dialogues demonstrate the importance of the relationship between the two and, furthermore, emphasizes the potential effects of Hector s loss. The most moving interaction that epitomizes the tragedy of Andromache s battle between action vs. fate can be observed in her plea to Hector to leave the front lines. She appeals to his role as a family man the provider to his beloved wife and father to his son (Ill 6.427 490). Factors that add to employee dissatisfaction include: company policy and administration, supervision, salary, interpersonal relations, and working conditions (Starling, 2011, p. 357). According to this theory, simply eliminating job dissatisfiers is not enough, what truly motivates employees more effectively are job satisfiers. In order to motivate employees, managers should lessen the amount of dissatisfiers and increase the amount of satisfiers (Starling, 2011). Luckily in this case, the privatization of health benefits falls under the dissatisfiers of company policy and administration. Therefore, even though the employees are upset with the decision to privatize, the human resources director can still motivate employees by lessening the other dissatisfiers and by focusing more on increasing the satisfiers for employees such as giving them more recognition and responsibility. AI systems could help people live their lives by completing mundane tasks and help automate tasks. Imagine a house that can wake people up, start coffee, start the dishwasher, drier and wash machines, and clean the house by just hitting a few keys on a keypad. Many people would choose this option over a house that cannot. By making peoples lives easier, it allows them to spend less time doing mundane chores, and more time spending time with loved ones. In the 1780, Marie Antoinette began spending more time at her private castle, the Petit Trianon, which was on the Palace of Versailles and obviously almost always without Louis. The Scene I Of Act IIi Throughout the evolution of a theme and seven variations as well as a two part fugue, Berg explores the possibilities of various numeric significances and an ever evolving harmonic and melodic vocabulary. By presenting the audience with a familiar formal structure Berg is then free to more openly manipulate and change other variables such as using non functional harmonies and unresolved melodic passages. He combines both dramatic and musical foreshadowing to create a visual and aural experience for the listener that is while always being conscious with what would be too overwhelming to the audience. Berg creates an opera ripe with symbolism and significance. The introspective Scene I of Act III is no exception. The scene opens with Marie in her continued struggle through life, attempting to find solace in her bible. The audience is presented with her frantic behavior in this scene and further observes how the plot will finally unfold, a sad and unfortunate end. Musically, Berg paints this surrealism wonderfully, and through his recurring methods and musical vocabulary, ties the scene together. Following two bars of silence, the scene opens with a descending fourth figure that gradually evolves into an ascending third figure in m.6. The four opening notes of the scene, G D F Eb, form a 0146, which is an all interval tetrachord. On top of this linear tetrachord a solo cello oscillates between the notes G and D. • 22. The Idea Of The Self-Made Man By Pamela Laid I found Pamela Laird s essay very interesting, and while I ve never subscribed to the idea of a self made man , I never considered how the notion could be harmful. The concept of the self made man states that most people can get where they want to be with hard work and a good entrepreneurial spirit. This idea exemplifies the idea of the American Dream, and creates the illusion of an America where anyone, regardless of ethnicity, gender, or economic background could become the next Steve Jobs or Andrew Carnegie. Laird argues that self made success can, at least in part, be attributed to an economic, political or social advantage. She makes an excellent argument on how individualism can harm both the individual and the collective. The idea of the self made man can first be seen during the Protestant Reformation, where people begin to drift away from the idea that they aren t in control of their circumstances, which were instead dependent on God. Benjamin Franklin was a very popular model of self made success which inspires entrepreneurs even today. Thomas Mellon, the founder of the Mellon Bank, looked up to Franklin for his ambition and aimed to amass wealthfrom Franklin s ideas of self improvement. However, Franklin spoke about self improvement for the purpose of community and individual growth, and not for material gain. • 26. Electric Motors And The Future Of Electric Motors Flick the switch and the lights usually comes on. This involves a but ton of electricity. Our past ancestors would love to have these electric motors that we have today. You will find these motors from everything to electric trains and remote controlled cars. As an example we will use a computer. They usually have two but the biggest ones can have up to 12. They usually are used from the fan to cool it down and the hard drive. These motors are in everything we use these days. From the fans we use to the hair dryers to dry our hair. Without these we would still have horses and buggies. It s sad that we use these things everyday and take them for granted. These little motors have six parts: Armature or rotor, commutator, brushes, axle, field magnet, and DC power supply of some sort. Most electric motors operate through the interaction between an electric motor s magnetic field and winding currents to generate force. In certain applications, such as in regenerative braking with traction motors in the transportation industry, electric motors can also be used in reverse as generators to convert mechanical energy into electric power. Found in applications as diverse as industrial fans, blowers and pumps, machine tools, household appliances, power tools, and disk drives, electric motors can be powered by direct current sources, such as from batteries, motor vehicles or rectifiers, or by alternating current sources, such as from the power grid, inverters or generators. Small motors may be found in electric watches. General purpose motors with highly standardized dimensions and characteristics provide convenient mechanical power for industrial use. The largest of electric motors are used for ship propulsion, pipeline compression and pumped storage applications with ratings reaching 100 megawatts. Electric motors may be classified by electric power source type, internal construction, application, type of motion output, and so on. Thomas Davenport developed the first real electric motor although Joseph Henry and Michael Faraday created early motion devices using electromagnetic fields. The early motor created spinning disks or levers that rocked back and forth. These devices could not do any work for humankind but were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His emphasis throughout the book, is the obliviousness of the American people towards the negative effects that democracy has on one s culture, while also offering solutions to the problem, so we can become civilized and humanized people instead of being industrial animals. Look around you, how many things are not made out of wood? Deforestation is the destruction or removal of forests. In fact, 50,000 trees are being cut down every minute. The issue deforestation links directly with the issues of air pollution, loss of animal habitats and climate change as well as several health problems. Deforestation can be solved if everyone helped, but not everyone has the same perspective. For example, some world leaders like Donald Trump do not believe that climate change is an issue, and a lot of people do not care about deforestation because they are unaware or because they do not care about anything beside themselves. I became interested in this topic after knowing that in countries where deforestation is a bigger issue, people are less healthy. Although Canada does not struggle with deforestation as much compared to China and the US, I do not want the same to happen. One issue that deforestation causes is extinction the permanent loss of species. Each species is unique and different but most share the same home: the forest. While others say that logging creates jobs and lowers the risk of uncontrollable wildfires, what about all the animals? Where will they go when they no longer have a home? According to experts, 99% of all existing species that have ever existed are now gone. The loss of species may result in environmental repercussion. All living things are connected, if the connection is broken, nature would no longer be balanced. The government need to raise awareness of citizens, a possible solution to this would be hempcrete. Hemprete is a material made of weed, lime and water that can be used as a substitute for wood in houses. This method can save a lot of trees, since 44% of wood goes to construction. Second of all, deforestation has many unexpected effects to the environment and may result in negative consequences such as climate change. Through celebrating the Jewish holidays like Rosh Hashanah, Passover, and Yom Kippur, I have been introduced to many new types of foods, traditions, and prayers. One of my favorite Jewish traditions happens during Passover. The tradition consists of my dad hiding the afikomen, which is a half piece of matzo, the unleavened bread typically eaten during Passover. The tradition brought so much joy to my siblings and me because we tried to watch my dad very carefully to see where he hid it, but he somehow always found a way to hide it without us knowing when and where he did so. After the traditional Passover meal was finished, my siblings and I would race up out of our chairs to go wildly search for it. Whichever kid found it first was given a prize, and it was usually a few bucks, so we were always very competitive in trying to find it. Eventually, I wasn t allowed to look for it anymore because I got too old, which I found very unfair, but my brother and sister loved it because now they had a better chance of finding it first. My dad loves carrying out this tradition, because it reminds him of when he was young and playing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Employees Under Surveillance Whether employees should be under surveillance or not of their employers will always remain a debatable topic. In my opinion, however, I would support this phenomenon instead of opposing it due to some analytical reasons which I shall be explaining in detail. 1) Workers/Employees might alter their behaviour if they will be told about the inspection. This will not show the fair results of the monitoring. Two researchers, Elton Mayo and Flitz Rothlisberger, carried out an experiment in 1920s. In 1927, researchers were trying to determine the optimal amount of lighting, temperature, and humidity for assembling electronic components at Western Electric s Hawthorne plant. The results showed that lighting had no consistent effect on production. Researchers were frustrated to discover that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Managers can lawfully screen practically anything a representative does at work the length of the explanation behind checking is sufficiently essential to the business. Bosses may introduce camcorders, read postal mail and email, screen telephone and PC use, use GPS following, and that s just the beginning. By analyzing the period time and the history of each game, he correlates even that help us demonstrate the importance each game had in their corresponding period. In most cases the employers hire commercial artists to create advertisements, animations and illustrations, which conveys a message intended for consumers. Communication is therefore decisively important in this field. Conversely, the definition of fine art has been generally misunderstood to mean artistic works that are of high quality. However, an important aspect that should be included in the definition of fine art is that the artists adhere to the purity of their style or discipline. This implies that fine art should be judged based on its aesthetic value, meaningfulness and beauty. Notably, unlike commercial artists, fine artists are self motivated and decide on what they want the artwork to look like. Furthermore, they are motivated by the desire to express their ideologies rather that communication. Due to the lucrative nature of art commercialization, many fine artists prefer to practice both disciplines. Artists, such as Bob Gill, Ben Shahn, Robert Weaver and Robert Peak, ... The American public consistently listens to the media to these people crossing the border illegally, which is deemed as a crime. They see these people as stealing American jobs and benefiting from government programs such as welfare. Countless people think it was voluntary for them to come to the United State, therefore they deserve whatever comes their way, either health problems, racism or low paying jobs. However, what countless American people don t realize is that the majority of Mexican migrants are forced to migrate to the United State to survive. They constantly risk their lives to cross a dangerous border in order to find the jobs that the American people don t want to endure. In the book called Fresh Fruit, Broken Bodies, the author, Seth Holmes focus on the lives of an indigenous Mexican group called the Triquis. Throughout the book, he focuses on the journey of the group from their hometown in Oaxacato farms in California and Washington. The book also emphasizes on how racism and health problems of migrant workers have become invisible. Their health problems and their social status in the social hierarchy are blamed on themselves because they decided to come to a place where they are seen as illegal aliens. Instead of blaming the Triqui people of their sickness, health care facilities need to treat them without judgement, address what exactly their sickness is as well as its structural causes.
