Pluralism In The Muslim Community
Pluralism by definition is a state of society that promotes inclusion and tolerance that allows a group
to maintain and develop their traditional culture. For the Muslim community, this is tied to their
cultural identity and sense of belonging here in the United States. The journal article states that It
encourages skepticism and innovation and is thus subversive of the status quo (Moore 118). In
other words, pluralism works to fight against a secular world and opens the door to change.
However, it is difficult to proclaim that such an ideology exists on American soil given the events
that occurred to the Muslimcommunity post 9 11.
Government Policies and the war on terror inadvertently isolated the entire community of Muslims

It s easy to politically marginalize a group of people who make up a small fraction of the total U.S
population. Being underrepresented and feeling like they do not have a voice in the government
puts a halt on any form of change and make it even more difficult to establish a sense of belonging.
The U.S in term of an industrialized powerhouse is a the top which contributes to its political
power, however, the inclusion of Muslim Americans is almost nonexistent. For many Muslim
Americans, it is difficult to continue publicly supporting and celebrating their culture, religion, and
heritage out of fear of the backlash.
People fear that in which is different from the norm but, America is founding upon the idea of
freedom and diversity. Inclusion and tolerance should not be something that has to be required
rather a principle ingrained in each individual from the very beginning. This journal article aimed to
discuss the meaning of pluralism in the U.S and in doing so highlights the fact that given the
current trajectory and the Muslim experience in the United States, it now more vital than ever to
take a step back and examine the impact of how minorities are treated and the steps necessary for
social and political

Multi Drum Research Paper
WFLIII Drums Multi Drum Performances
Remember when 1,000 Foo Fighter s fans in Cesana, Italy, played Learn How To Fly in an
attempt to lure the band to play in their beautiful city? No? Well, you can watch a video of the
performance here, and it is full of passion and lightness of spirit.
When musicians who do not usually come together do, it is a special thing, creating spine tingling
moments. And drummers who usually sit behind their kit behind the rest of the band can blow our
minds when they play in tandem with another of their kind.
Let s note some performances that truly rocked, and deserve a look.
6 Notable Multi Drum Performances

Runs Girl Essay
Redurm in the Beautiful Sky
How far would you go to save a member of your family s life? Would you be willing to forget
your beliefs, to risk everything to save a loved one? These were some of the questions that I was
thinking during the short story Runs Girl by Chinelo Okparanta. The story of a young girl who
becomes a runs girl, which is a Nigerian escort, to earn money to pay for her mother s medical
treatment. I found the story to be interesting, which I believe to be the most challenging about
short stories typically. Making the reader emotionally involved and invested in a story and
characters in only a small number of pages. Symbolism and foreshadowing was a major literary
tool in tell of this story. The theme of compassion is a major aspect of the story that influence
Ada and her mother s actions. The mother was once a fun loving, and even described as
gregarious lively sprit. Until her husband past away. She then flipped like a switch, and became
more reserved. The relationship between her and her daughter Ada changed too. It becomes more
cold and distant. No matter how I said it, it would have felt contrived, because we no longer said
such tender things. (pg. 70) Ada, thinks this on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

seem futile. Which added to her own personal guilt that all that she did to save her mother and
hopefully bring them closer, ended up tearing them apart. Ada, demonstrates a strong lovefor her
mother, willing to do anything to save her life. Although her mother rejects the offer, and her
daughter s money, then dies. Her mother final rejection of Ada. After the death of her husband, her
personality disappeared becoming more closed off from Ada and the world. Refusing to forgive
Ada, was the mother losing all compassion, rejecting humanity and accepting

The American Legion s Product Development By Implementing...
Strategic Alternatives The few strategies that I suggest that the American legion begins to use are
to attempt product development by implementing social media as a marketing tool. By using
social media as a huge part of the marketing this allows the American Legion to see exactly how
many people are viewing their ads. It also gives them the chance to customize who they exactly
want to target. This can allow for less old school marketingsuch as magazines, post cards,
newspapers, or ads which all of these allowed the Legion to waste of lot of money per year on
them. As I have stressed many times throughout this paper, the net assets have been cut in over
half in the last four years alone. They have high expenses and a lot of it was... Show more content

Strategy Choice and Rationale If the American Legion reached out to their competitors such as
collaborating with the Wounded Warriors Project, Disables American Veterans (DAV), Veterans
of Foreign Wars (VFW), or the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) would be effectively
embracing trade offs with offering something to other organizations as well effectively gaining
something from other organizations as well. I would love to see the American Legion get
together with all of these organizations, putting a large event on, have a few celebrities show up
as well and really put the American Legion on the map and leveraging other outlets than just their
own endeavors. Having a strategy of strategies is crucial especially at the tipping point of where
the Legion is as a whole; in class we have discussed many great ideas as a small group of
individuals with business mindsets, as outsiders and some from younger generations are able to put
our twist on the Strategies of the American Legion and pinpoint both the strengths and weaknesses.
The Legion needs to have a plan to execute these strategies and roll them out and act on them.

Impact Of Pollution On Ozone Depletion
Jamie Kanzler Extended Essay: What is the impact of pollution on ozone depletion? Section 1:
Introduction Air is classified as a mixture because it is made up of many different elements. These
elements include 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, 1% Argon, .4% water vapor, and .04% carbon
dioxide. Human activity has a very large effect on the air in our environment. Over time, humans
have caused the once clean air to become polluted with chemicals. These chemicals are called
pollutants. A pollutant is defined as a substance created from human activity, that is present at a
concentration greater than its natural levels, and has a harmful effect on the environment. Many
different pollutants exist in our air today and the concentration of these chemicals causes their
toxicity to vary. Generally, pollutants are classified into two groups: primary and secondary
pollutants. A primary pollutant is a chemical that enters directly into the atmosphere. Common
primary pollutants include nitrogen monoxide, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide,
and volatile organic compounds. A volatile organic compound is a compound of carbon that
participates in a photochemical reaction in the atmosphere. The second type of pollutant, a
secondary pollutant, is produced when primary pollutants go through a chemical reaction with
environmental constituents in the atmosphere. Examples of secondary pollutants include sulfuric
acid, nitrogen dioxide, and ozone. These pollutants are modified

Food In The Elizabethan Era
Food of the Elizabethan Time
People s food of the Elizabethan time period depended on their social status and their financial
abilities while malnutrition, diseases, and deficiencies made it harder for them to find food. The
rich and the poor both had high risks of deficiencies because of the lack of sanitary foods and
places and lack of nutrients. The food consumed varied depending on wealth and social class. In the
Medieval period meat was a sign of wealth which carried over into the Elizabethan era. New
inventions and the rapidly growing industries contributed into the new food of this time.

The food was generally purchased from small markets and fairs in the area. After being cut and
cleaned, meat was sold in large livestock markets. In larger cities such as London, the food was
sold in bigger, specific markets that sold fish, dairy, or fruits and vegetables. After purchasing,
the food was brought home and cooked usually over an open flame by baking, boiling, salting,
smoking, or frying. Pots, pans, skillets, cauldrons, and kettles were popular cooking utensils.
Food preparation and appearance was most important to the rich, especially Elizabeth s cooks.
Although feasts and banquets had an expectation to withhold, food was prepared much like
what is seen today They would use props and bright colors to arrange the food in an appeasing way.
Peacocks feathers were used to make the food, arranged in shapes to satisfy one s eye, look better.

Rhetorical Analysis Of Pope Francis
I will be analyzing the speech of Pope Francis to a Joint Session of Congress from September of
2015 in Washington, D.C. for my final rhetorical analysis. This speech is important because it
addresses societal issues in the United States and the whole world such as poverty, religion, war, the
environment, immigration, and gun laws. The popenot only addresses the issues, but also
acknowledges many of the marvelous features of America. In this paper, I will provide a
summary of research I found on the context of the speech, the speaker, the audience, and the
effects the speech had on society. Pope Francis is the present day spiritual leader of the Catholic
Church, also known as the bishop of Rome or pontiff. He is the very first pope from Latin
American, Argentina specifically, and is now known as the first pope ever that has addressed
Congress. According to the guardian.com, Pope Francis, electrified Congress with a call for
action on climate change, immigration, poverty and capital punishment, laying down a
challenge for the United States to transcend division and rediscover its ideals (Carroll 1). He
addressed these issues and drew a great interest from the audience for fifty one minutes in the
chamber of the House of Representatives. The audience of the speech consisted of a large
number of lawmakers, aides, and invited guests. The New York Times, referenced some of the
people that attended: Sitting behind Francis were Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. and House
Speaker John A. Boehner, both Catholics. Flanking the aisle at the front were Secretary of State
John Kerry and Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., and not far behind them was Nancy Pelosi, the
House Democratic leader, all Catholics (Baker, Yardley 17). Others in the audience included three
other Supreme Court associate justices, Justice Anthony Kennedy, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and
Justice Sonia Sotomayor, other cabinet members, senators, House members, presidential candidates,
a few four star generals, priests, nuns, and bishops. According to the New York Times, the
lawmakers interrupted Pope Francis about thirty times applauding him, causing the speech to run
fifty one minutes when originally scheduled for thirty. *****add

Essay on Transmission Fluid
Your car will rely on many things especially fluids to keep all the mechanical parts well lubricated
and working without using much heat on high friction functions. Transmission fluid is one of the
most important fluids in the car. Significance The transmission system uses clutch, actuating shafts
and all the gear connections. Each engine gear will have a limit, which is defined by the red line
that is always defined by the revolutions per minute. When the gear of your vehicle reaches the
limit, it has to stop spinning and let another gear power the vehicle. Your transmission system will
be responsible for moving the power one gear to another without letting the engine stop, and
transmission helps in making that happen. Function... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, it is necessary to get your transmission fuel replaced in due time. Here are some
simple steps on how to replace transmission fluid. Things Required: Socket wrenches
Screwdrivers Mallet Longneck funnel Two old milk jugs Jack stands or car ramp Wheel chocks
Brake cleaner Several clean shop rags Steps: Preparing for replacing transmission fluid Before
you lift your car, you must examine the transmission to diagnose the health of the same. You
will have to run your car for this, so start the engine of your car and allow it to run until it is
warm. Keep the gearshift in park and the emergency brake should be in place. Now you will
have to check the level of the transmission fluid with the help of a dipstick, which is located in
the rear of the engine. After some time pull out the dipstick, wipe it with a clean rag and again
insert it in the tube, making sure that it is seated completely over there. Pull the dipstick out and
check the film of fluid on the end. Some of the dipsticks will show levels of cool, warm or hot
fluid. If the transmission fluid of your car is in good health, then the fuel level should not be low.
It will have a pinkish or reddish color and will smell like petrol. If the transmission fuel appears
burned and is low consistently, then it means that you will have to replace

Unit 11 Assignment 2 Cardiovascular And Transport Systems
Unit 11 Assignment 2: Cardiovascular and Respiratory Systems M2. Explain the need for a
transport system in a multi cellular organism There are two types of cellular organisms:
Unicellular organism Multi cellular organism Unicellular Organism A unicellular organism is a
single celled organism (one cell), which is to rely on the process of diffusion, when moving
different substances in and out of other cells, due to its structure it has a larger surface area in
comparison to its volume; this is because each organism is built for a specific function. However,
they transport materials such as oxygen and urea in and out of bodies, through diffusion and
osmosis. Multi cellular Organism A multi cellular is consists of more than one cell, it has a small
surface area, compared to its volume. This means that its structure is specialised to do more than
one function, especially exchanging surfaces, such as lungs, and transporting systems. Its
transportation system requires food and oxygen to be transported from one place to another. Why
do we need a transport system? The reason for having a transport system is because the single
celled organisms, also known as unicellular organism are small, meaning that they have a large
surface area, in comparison to their volume; a large surface area to volume ratio. As they are
known for having one cell, the substances diffuse through their relatively large plasma membrane.
This also means that they are able to diffuse

Pulmonary And Systemic Heart
Homework # 1
1) The heart has four chambers, associated with the pulmonary and systemic circuit. It starts from
the systemic circuit by receiving blood to the right atrium and passing it to the right ventricle and
then pumps into the pulmonary circuit. Then it collects it at the left atrium and empties into the left
ventricle which pumps blood back to the systemic circuit. Arties carry blood away from the heart
and veins return blood to the heart.
The pericardial sac is also known as the fibrous pericardium, which surrounds the heart. It consists
of a dense network of collagen fibers, stabilizes the position of the heart and connected to the
vessels within the mediastinum. The pericardium has subdivided into two portions of the visceral

Colorism And Racism
Racism is prominent in the United States. Growing up in my small, predominately white town I
did not recognize it. I had difficulty comprehending what racism is. As I have grown and
developed my understanding of the many identities I hold, I have come to realize racism is the
systematic oppression of people of color rooted in discrimination through the historical power,
privilege given to the dominate identity. With this definition of racism, I can recall many
occurrences in my childhood where I faced both direct and indirect racism. For me a prominent
and constant sense of racism comes from the beauty industry regarding colorism. Colorism is the
discrimination based on skin color. The dominate color or White is considered more desirable and
better than darker colors. For me, colorism came from both folks of my own raceand those of the
dominate identity. Being raised within the South Asian community I encountered a strong sense of
colorism through beauty standards. Lighter skin tone was considered better than darker skin tone.
This is evident through the large skin whitening industry within South Asian community. Colorism
extremely influenced me. I saw all my favorite Bollywood actresses having light complexions. I
watched ads for skin whiteningproducts showing lighter skin tone being related to confidence,
attractiveness, and happiness. I didn t admittedly talk about how lighter skin was better; I was just
extremely grateful for my lighter complexion in comparison to

Health Policy Debate The Affordable Care Act ACA has provided some needed changes to the

The Dust Bowl Effect On The Great Depression
The Dust Bowl s Effect on the Great Depression
The Grapes of Wrath, by John Steinbeck, pays homage to the critical impact the Great Depression
had on dust bowl farmers. The growing demand for wheat products forced farmers to overgraze
their property. This reduced the overall usefulness and biodiversity of the land, and attributed to
the desertification of their establishments. With this, the once lush fields turned to dust, which
blew away with the commencement of the severe drought in the early 1930s. Steinbeck utilizes
the lives of the Joad family to depict how farmers were often forced to flee their homes in search
of better jobs during this time period. Because of the stock market s demise, no one was purchasing
their crops. Banks were required to drive farmers out of their homes, as they could not afford to
keep supporting them without profit. The agricultural devastation of the Dust Bowl intensified the
economical impact of the Great Depression and added to the misery of the migrant workers. The
wrath of nature unleashed itself on the migrant farmers during the 1930s. During this time period,
the entirety of the Midwest was plagued with drought. In fact, new scientific studies found that the
drought of the 1930s was the worst in North America in the last 300 years (The National Drought
Mitigation Center). The Earth s surface became a thin hard crust (Steinbeck 1). The Great Plains
were noted for their fertile soils until this ten year dry spell cursed the

The Prevalence Of Parkinson s Disease
Individuals worldwide are affected by Parkinson s disease. Parkinson s is a chronic disorder
with onset of symptoms occurring at a mean age of 60 years. The prevalence of Parkinson s
increases with age and may affect up to 5% of individuals over 79 years old. (Tosin, Campos,
Andrade, Oliveira, Santana, 2015). Those affected by the disease, experience impairments in
movement, balance, and have difficulty performing everyday life tasks. Due to posture deficits and
gait dysfunction, patients with Parkinson s have an increased risk of falling which may lead to
secondary health problems. Although exercise programs have been implemented to decrease falls,
few programs are proven successful. (Li, Harmer, Fitzgerald, Eckstrom, Stock, Galver, Maddalozzo,
Batya, 2012). In order to find an effective program in decreasing falls, nurses are performing various
rehabilitation interventions that focus on improving postural stability. Two examples of
interventions include QiGong and Tai Chi. Qi Gong is a mindful exercise that effects neuroplasticity
in the brain and can have an effect on the postural instability that Parkinson s patients experience
(Loftus, 2014). Tai Chi is a balance based exercise that may have an effect on muscle strength and
stability for those living with Parkinson s (Li, et al., 2012). Qi Gong and Tai Chi are two
rehabilitation interventions that nurses are implementing to prove whether or not complementary

Kudzu Vs Herbicides
Most mechanical means of kudzu removal practiced in the southeastern United States involve
mowing the vine or cutting it back. These methods, though more effective than herbicides, are more
time consuming. Vines must be mowed down just above ground level every month or two during
the growing season in order to prevent them from growing back. When using this method of kudzu
control, all of the plant material must be removed and/or destroyed (burned) to prevent the vines
from taking root and re growing (Miller, J. H., Edwards, B. , 1983). A different, and sometimes less
time consuming option for the control of kudzu is chemical treatment with herbicides. However,
chemical treatments are expensive, and killing off the plant completely requires

I Visited My House After Two Months
I visited my house after two months. Everyone was fast asleep. I went inside my room.It was
almost midnight and I was trying to clear my head. I kept thinking about my life and how it has
turned into nuisance. I couldn t imagine any scenarios that could keep my infuriated mind in a
placid state. I decided to wake up, drink the Starbucks that I was fond of and start writing about
how I can get the life I want to live. As I took a sip from that frigid bottle I heard a creak from
outside the window. The rusty gate between those old fences kept on making a squeak as the
wind bashed it every now and then. I never discerned that annoying sound it made before. It must
have been the way I used to see the world I lived in before. Never troubled and never perturbed. My
mindwas so prone to distractions as it constantly looked for things to whine about. That squeaky
gate made me obnoxious. It felt like my fate was laughing on me. But, instead of being agitated, I
decided to think calmly and go to the living room where that rusty old gate couldn t trouble me.
I sat down on the sofa which wasn t frayed before. It must have been the Ragdoll I thought, my aunt
who visited last week loves him so much. I decided to turn my laptop on and write down things I
needed to change in order to be contented. Just as I started typing my password, it creaked again.

This essay will outline the importance of the numbered treaties and the Native relations at the time.
This includes the events that occurred in 1871 1877 and will specifically outline the importance of
Treaty Number 6. Although the numbered treaties were intended to benefit both the Natives and
the Canadian government, in many cases, the treaties were not as favourable or beneficial to the
natives as they were to the state. The natives were forced to signthe treaties and even when the
treaties were signed, the Canadian government did not keep the promises that the Natives were
entitled to. Although the treaties were signed, the lack of interest in the aboriginal communities by
the government caused dissatisfaction in the native communities. The growing disappointment in
government led to retaliations and rebellions.
Soon after the passing of Constitution Act of 1867, there were threats of United States expanding

Sylvia Plath Figurative Language
Throughout Sylvia Plath s poem You re she addresses what her life is like as a pregnant women.
This poem was written when she was pregnant with her first child so the emotions she was feeling
were at full throttle. Through her use of similes and metaphors Plath is able to portray these first
time emotions as excitement of a soon to be mother starts to grow.
It is no secret that Sylvia Plath thought very highly of her soon to be child. There is no way
however she can express this love in normal words. She must use figurative language to portray
this new love. For example Plath writes, Gilled like a fish. A common sense (line 3). This is the
first simile she uses in her poem and she uses it to compare her daughter to a fish. Though this ...

Plath explores, Bent backed Atlas, our travelled prawn (13). At first glance it seems Plath is
referring to a map of some sort but instead she is referring to a greek Titan. Andrew Spacey who
is a writer for Owlcation wrote about this poem in his analysis. He writes, In psychology Atlas is
a metaphor for the personality of a child who has excessive responsibilities in life (Spacey). Plath
is already hinting at her new child s future and what is to come. She has high hopes for a child
she hasn t even met yet, but is so in tune with her emotions she is feeling during her pregnancy
she is able to use these metaphors to show her expectations. Another example would be when
Plath writes, A clean slate, with your own face on (18). This child is new to Plath, new to her
family, and new to the world. By comparing her to a new slate Plath is able to show the reader
that she is creating new life from her own body. To most women a no greater joy can be felt. She
has created this living being and gets the opportunity to raise a unique, child of her own. Only a
metaphor could truly show that s how Plath is

Informative Essay About Anime
Anime, is a term that is used to represent Japanese animation (Lamarre 1). It is a combination of
both form of content and form of expression. However, there seems to be more emphasis on form
of content rather than expression when discussing anime. Form of content includes the genre, story
and narrative while form of expression includes the animation and the style. Form of content can
be described as what the audience is being shown and the message that is conveyed. On the other
hand, form of expression emphasizes how the animation is shown and as a means for the animation
to be shown. In this paper, the first episode of the television animeseries Pretty Guardian Sailor
Moon(also known as BishЕЌjo Senshi SД“rДЃmЕ«n in Japanese), will be... Show more content on

When Sailor Moon is being introduced, the camera is moved up gradually from Usagi s bed to
her face. The camera remains on her face until she realizes she s late for school. Then, there is a
sudden zoom in of her alarm clock, a zoom in of Usagi, and a zoom out of her house. This
emphasizes that s late for school and she suddenly wakes up and runs down the stairs. As she
runs down the stairs, a selection process is used where only her legs are shown to be moving. As
she speaks to her mom, Usagi is the one moving while her mom remains still throughout most of
the scene in the same position, along with the background which is still aswell. However, when
she is out the door and running, the background moves along with her. This demonstrates a pull
cels technique since the single image is pulled across the background as Usagi is running towards
school. There is also stillness in the background in various scenes. When Usagi is kneeling on the
street and contemplating about showing her mother her test, we see people in the background.
These people are still and do not move, even when she Usagi walks down the road. During these
type of scenes, sound would be the carrier of information since the background is still. Thus, Usagi
speaking is what conveys the information to us rather than the illustration. Another scene which
demonstrates more movement in camera is when Usagi is home to show her mother her test. The
dialogue between Usagi and

Weedon Island was home to the very first Native Americans that came to Florida Alabama and
Georgia; these people used to do everything in the island and lived there for a long period of
time. Even though, the island is very small for an entire population to live in it because there
was probably not enough food for everyone, they still managed to stay there for many years.
Nowadays the place is a reserve own by the state where tourists and locals can go and explore.
During the hike people get to see the Florida state tree, many pine trees, turtles, and many other
organisms that are protected by the state, and just like any other preserve, the organisms found at
the island cannot be taken or harmed. One of the first things people get to see in the hike is the
pine trees and their pinecones. The small pinecones are the males and the big ones, that almost
everyone is familiar to, the female. The female cones are seen at the top of the pine tree because
they want to pollinate with different species and the pollen can get to them easier from up there.
After observing the cones, the guide pointed out to a wild lime tree. I learned that the thorns on the
wild lime tree are there to protect the tree from animals that would want to eat it and the lime is not
eatable, it is toxic. Another thing the hike guide pointed out to... Show more content on

action and the viewer. There is a clash of culture between the two gangs relating to dress,
mannerisms, speech, music and atmosphere. The Montague gang is portrayed in a flamboyant,
relaxed and youthful manner. This is displayed by their colourful, casual, and holiday type,
choice of clothing. Their accessories, e.g. jewellery are throw away, meaningless junk and have
no substantial meaning to their purpose, (gang). Their cars are wild, bright and customised. Their
choice of music is head banger rock. The impression created is, fun loving, care free adolescence.
By contrast, the Capulets are very sophisticated, stylish and sleek. They dress in black tight fitting,
fashionable clothing, with a strong religious connotation. Their accessories are: crosses, gold,
medallion rings and black robes, which illustrate serious religious imagery. Both gangs are
privileged and affluent and they give the strong impression of being powerful and dangerous. Baz

Importance Of A Lightbulb Moment
A lightbulb moment. My writing process has officially kicked off with the lightbulb moment.
This is the moment when the first line of my paper pops in my head or I have a sense of
direction in where the paper is headed. I can depend on the fact that this will not happen by
staring at a blinking cursor on a blank page. Some of my better lightbulb moments have been on
the bus heading home or the second I get into bed to go to sleep that is why my mom always
taught me to keep post its and a penin my nightstand! I usually like to give myself at least a couple
days to write my paper, edit the paper, and to make sure I have an effective mic drop at the end, as
my English teacher last year said. However, seeing as I am starting this paper the night before it
is due, I should also mention that I have no problem starting last minute if I know what I am going
to say and essentially have the framework of a paper in my head. The lightbulb moment is the
hardest to control, but a critical part to my writingprocess.
The setting in which I write my paper is the easiest to control, and also a critical part to my
writing process. I find that the setting changes with each type of paper. I write at my desk in my
room for the average paper, especially if I am feeling confident in how the paper is going so far. I
can play music in the background and am two floors up from the kitchen and the family room,
thereby avoiding distractions. If it is a paper that is intimidating by name, like my

Urban Missions Of The United States
This book is a stirring challenge to give due consideration to urban missions, both the need for
them and their uniqueness. It also addresses numerous issues related to missions in general. The
following are several notable examples of many correctives the authors propose. Missiologists
plan how best to reach specific sectors of society. This necessitates setting strategies and
programs based on empirical statistical data resulting from research and development. Contrary
to what urbanologists once conjectured, family ties do not necessarily disintegrate in the city
with the home playing a significantly smaller role in the lives and attitudes of city dwellers (p.
19). In fact, quite often it is the very opposite. Homes may well provide the primary matrix for
social networking, etc. Another significant corrective focuses on the role evangelization plays in
social reform. Based on the research of Emilo Willems, a sociologist but not an evangelical,
Greenway says, Conversion to the evangelical faith is the most important single factor in the
reorientation of individual and family lives and in general upward mobility in the urban setting
(p. 20). Still the authors argue for the church s additional involvement in meeting physical needs.
The trend of today s preachers has a tendency to lose site of the man or cause one to bury oneself
in his own agenda and/or organization calling it God s plans. Men are God s method; the church is
looking for better methods, but God is looking

Compare And Contrast The Han And Roman Empires
Each empire has its own unique strengths and differences that aid in their emergence, growth, and
decline. While there are many differences between empires, there are fundamental similarities that
are common throughout every society. The Han, Mauryan, and Roman Empires all have different
strengths and differences, but are fundamentally the empires are similar in their primary doctrines.
Following the fall of the Qin Dynasty in 206 B.C.E., the Han Dynastywas founded by Liu Bang.
Bang veered away from a policy of centralized power, and moved towards a system of power
concentrating on the imperial court. The Han Dynasty adopted ideals from both Confucianism and
Legalism. Additionally, the Han fostered the Silk Road, which allowed for long distance trade and
better communication among nations. The immense expansion of both foreign and domestic trade
enabled the Han to prosper greatly. Furthermore, the addition of new technologies such as iron
casting, textile manufacturing, and watermills allowed the Han economy to further advance itself.
The leading factor of the decline of the Han Dynasty was its inability to restrict the power of
wealthy clans who constructed large estates on vast areas of land and made tenants out of free
farmers. This separation of classes caused the dynasty to destruct itself due to the fundamental
weakness brought on by a lack of unity within the nation. In 324 B.C.E., Chandragupta Maurya
created the Mauryan Empire. Like the Han, the

They mate at sea then they return to land at night. The mother uses her hand flippers to dig a
circular hole 40 to 50 centimeters deep. When the nest is dug, she starts filling it with soft
shelled eggs until she has placed around 50 to 350 eggs. Some only lay 250 eggs depending on
the species. After she fills the hole with eggs she fills it with sand and makes sure it has a
smooth surface. She then camouflages the nest with grass so it s harder for predators to find. It
takes her about 30 to 60 minutes for the whole process. The mother then returns to the ocean while
the eggs are untended. The turtle gender depends on the temperature of the sand. Lighter sands
make higher temperature so that decreases incubation which makes more female turtles. It is
warmer in the middle of the nest so those sea turtles will most likely be females. Incubation takes
about 50 to 60 days. The eggs hatch together over a short amount of time. The hatchlings tear the
egg apart with their caruncle and an egg tooth. They then dig through the sand. All but one of the
sea turtles will hatch at night which is the Kemp sea turtle. It happens because they are most
endangered. Sea turtles that hatch during the day are more likely to be seen by predators. When
they reach the surface of the nest they go straight to the sea. The smaller the hatchling is the less
likely it will survive. This happens because smaller sea turtles are slower than bigger sea turtles (

Comparison of Homer and Virgil’s Tragic Hero
Comparison of Homer and Virgil s Tragic Hero
Homer, an ancient Greek epic poet, influenced many writers in the ancient Greek and Roman
culture, particularly Virgil. Virgil, most famous for his epic poem The Aeneid demonstrates Homer
s influence through similar characters, mythology, and ideals. Homer in both his most famous
works the Iliad and The Odyssey weaves poetry based on centuries worth of oral stories handed
down and uses a sophisticated style of writing that is still recognized today. Although the tragic
hero is defined slightly differently in modern text than ancient Greek and Roman works, Aristotle
defined a tragic hero in his work Poetics as the character between these two extremes, that of a man
who is not eminently good ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Homer used pride as the tragic flaw that Achilles learned to overcome, whereas Virgil used a sense
of duty as Aeneas s tragic flaw. Homer portrayed Achilles as arrogant because he allowed his
men to fight a battle he knew they could not win without him. Achilles asked his mother for
Zeus to favor the Trojans so that he could regain the honor that he felt Agamemnon stripped
away. Aeneas s tragic flaw unlike Achilles was his sense of duty, which in turn he encountered
pitfalls during his escape from Troy. Achilles battled for personal glory and his own honor as a
warrior whereas Aeneas spent his time attempting to fulfill his mission, which forced him to
invade and conquer, a duty given to him by the gods. Virgil unites and conjoins all the virtues in
the formation of his hero: He gives him religion towards the gods, piety towards his country,
tenderness and friendship towards his relations, and equity and justice towards all (Rapin). On the
contrary, Homer magnified the tragic flaw in Achilles, which cost him his sanity because he
became obsessive with revenge. Although Aeneas s flaw appears minor in comparison to Achilles,
it led him to be an instrument of gods, which in turn destroyed innocent lives. Mercury appeared to
Aeneas to remind him of his mission and told him, Oblivious of your own world, your own
kingdom...He [Zeus] and no other sent me to you...Think of the

Compare and Contrast how Cocaine, Ecstasy, Heroin and Cannabis Work in the Brain
Drugs of abuse, such as cocaine, ecstasy, heroin and cannabis, are of natural or synthetic origin,
which can alter the emotional state, perception, body functioning and behaviour of an individual.
Drugs are known to work in the brain by activating certain brain circuits via different mechanisms,
and stimulate or inhibit different neurons in the pathway. However, due to the effects of each drug
being different, a drug will affect either different pathways and neurons in the brain to that of

Cocaine, on the other hand, has been found to have a profound effect on increased dopamine
activity. Kennedy Hanbauer (1983; cited in Karch, 2007) found a strong correlation between
cocaine binding and the inhibition of dopamine uptake, and therefore proposed that dopamine
transporters are binding sites for cocaine. Such research, which correlates strong reinforcing
properties of cocaine with inhibition of dopamine transporters, suggests that cocaine has a more
significant affect upon dopamine, than than it has upon serotonin and noradrenaline. The excessive
role of dopamine can explain the high degree of pleasure that users of cocaine experience, as well
as depression and cravings, which follow.
In contrast to ecstasy and cocaine, which increase the secretion of natural neurotransmitters by
blocking transporters, direct agonists imitate natural endogenous neuromediators and bind to their
receptors. Heroin and cannabis are both examples of direct agonists.
Many regions of the brain contain cannabinoid receptors, of which anandamide molecules,
concerned with regulating mood, appetite and emotions, naturally bind to. Cannabis contains an
active ingredient known as delta 9 tetrahydrocannabonic (THC), and when smoked or eaten, the
THC imitates the activity of anandamide by binding to cannabinoid receptors on nerve cells, and

A Teacher Who Makes A Spark Within A Student

people watch in movies. Although there will be many teachers in my life and other students
there will always be that one teacher who makes a spark within a student. Although I may had

How Did Marie Curie Contribute To The Modern World
A wise woman once said, I am one of those who think like Nobel, that humanity will draw more
good than evil from new discoveries (Brainy Quote). She was the first scientist to win two Nobel
Prizes, and the first to win the treasured prize in two different fields. She was the first female
professor at the University of Paris, the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, and the first in many
other major positions and organizations as a woman. This is Marie Curie. Marie Curie was, and still
is, a highly celebrated scientist and person today. Curie revolutionized the field of physics and
chemistry with her findings, but that was not the only thing she did. Through her accomplishments,
Curie empowered women by sparking the women s rights movement. This incredible woman did
all these things in life while being a loyal and dedicated wife and mother. Marie Curie was a
powerful figure who benefitted society by discovering elements radiumand polonium which is used
to help cancer treatments, opening doors for women by giving them power by being an
accomplished female scientist, and creating interest in the field of atomic physics/chemistry which

Marie and Pierre Curie both researched into radium s properties and the results implied that
radium could possibly be a cure to some diseases. From this, a new form of therapy developed:
radium therapy or Curie Therapy, as it was referred to in France (Koestler Grack Cures Cancer ).
The healing properties of radium are serviceable to the curing of diseases. Many suffered from
incurable diseases, such as types of Leukemia and Carcinoma, but radium treatment gave them hope
for a cure. Now, many diseases that were burdensome to treat in the past are of little to no
consequence due to the innovation of treatment from radium

Genesis And Job Essay
In the Bible, the books of Genesis and Job, each give a description of the creation of heaven and
earth. They depict different views and styles but share the same idea that God is the creator.
Genesis 1 2 is the most popular and well known story that says God created everything in six days
and the seventh day was rest. In the book of Job 38 40, the concept of creation was told to Job in
order to make him understand why he was suffering and to perceive the ways of God.
The first chapter in Genesis defines the beginning as being majestic and analytical. It demonstrates
a limited description of how life will continue to be maintained in everyday growth and how the
earth will continue to bring food for all living things (Gen. 1:29 30). Genesis also suggest that the
Creator was a one time occurance at the beginning of time. It explains what God created each day
and in chapter 2 clarifies the creation of man and woman. On the other hand, Job provides imagery
and metaphors to help the human mind to wrap around the concept of how the universe was formed.
For example, God speaks to Job ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Job, God asked him questions that could not be answered by any human being because only
God has the answers, Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth?Tell Me, if you
have understanding, Whoset its measurements? Since you know. Or who stretched the line on
it? On what were its bases sunk? Or who laid its cornerstone? (Job 38:4 6). These descriptions are
similar to the first chapter of Genesis by saying God is all knowing and nothing can compare,
And God said, Let there be light, and there was light. 4 And God saw that the light was good.
And God separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light Day, and the darkness he
called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day (Genesis 1:3 5). Both
chapters depict God s power and

A Case For A Partnership Agreement
10. Kathleen and Jim are business partners at a consulting firm. Upon Jim s sudden death, his
widow claims that she is entitled to a share of the firm s assets or should be able to take his Jims
place as Kathleen s partner. Is she entitled to her claims? Why or why not?
The outcome of this case depends on whether or not a partnership agreement was formed prior to
the partner s death. If the partnership agreement wasn t formed, general partnership State statues
will take default (Clarkson, 2015, p. 721). However, a partnership agreement will always
override state laws. If the provisions allow the partnership to continue after a partner s death, the
wife will be entitled to her husband s shares and if the provisions don t state otherwise she will
also be able to take over his place in the firm (Wright, 2016). If a partnership agreement does not
exist, most states will require a partnership to dissolve after a partner s death. The deceased
partner s shares will be used to pay off any debts or obligations and the remainder funds will be
distributed to the surviving partners (Wright, 2016). If the deceased partner includes his wife in
his will, then a portion of the funds will be distributed to his wife after the dissolution. If his will
is in probate, the funds will be distributed to his estate (Wright, 2016). A major disadvantage of not
having a partnership agreement, is the risk of the spouse demanding her inheritance immediately
(Wright, 2016). Since the partner s capital is

The father of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy is Albert...
The father of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) is Albert Ellis. Born in Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania in 1913, New York became Dr. Ellis home since his family move there when he
was four years old. Ellis struggled with health problems and physical ailments from childhood
until his death in 2007. As a child, Ellis survived on his own as his parents were absent. His
father was a traveling business person and his mother was emotionally absent (Albert Ellis
Institute, 2012). The foundation of REBT developed when a youthful Ellis utilized a philosophy
of viewing life to deal with his physical and family issues (Corey, 2013). In 1934, Ellis received his

In the 1950s, Ellis grew dissatisfied with the effect of analytic forms of therapy since he
discovered that his clients progressed as well when saw them bi weekly, weekly, or daily. At
that point, Ellis took a more active role counseling people with family or sex problems.
Furthermore, Ellis discovered his clients seemed to progress more rapidly than when he used
passive psychoanalytic procedures. By 1955, Ellis had abandoned psychoanalysis entirely with
his clients. Moreover, Ellis concentrated on altering client s behavior by challenging them with
their irrational beliefs and influencing them to apply rational ones. This new method was more
suited to Ellis personality since he could be more himself (Corey, 2013). Ellis believed rational
emotive suited his own personality processes. In 1957, Ellis published his first book, How to
Live with a Neurotic, based on Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy. Subsequently, Ellis organized
the Institute for Rational Living. At this institute, he held workshops to teach his principles to
other therapists. After the success of his first book, Ellis published 54 books and more than 600
articles on Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), sex and marriage (Albert Ellis Institute,
2012). Ellis stated the genesis of REBT theory back to ancient Greece. REBT theory is one type of
cognitive behavior therapy. According to Ellis, REBT theory is the oldest and most prominent

The Major Causes Of World War I
World War I was a global war that was centered in Europe and started on July 28, 1914 and
continued to November 11, 1918. It was a war that resulted in millions of casualties, but it paved
the way for major political changes, including revolutions in many nations involved in the war.
Militarism, alliances, and imperialism were the major causes creating tensions which began one of
the most violent and deadly war of European history.
Militarism is the belief or desire of a government or people that a country should maintain a strong
military competence and be prepared to use it in means necessary to defend or promote national
interests. A powerful state needed a powerful military to protect its interests and defend their
homeland. Governments ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prior to World War IBritain had been the most powerful nation in the world occupying one
quarter of the globe. British imperialism was driven chiefly by trade, the importation of raw
materials and the sale of manufactured goods. Britain s imperial power was reinforced by their
powerful navy and their large fleet of mercantile vessels. France was also another major imperial
power which it s holdings included Indochina, some Pacific islands and several colonies in west
and north west Africa. Spain once ruled the Philippines and large parts of South America,
though it s imperial power was weakening rapidly. Germany s Empire included parts of China,
Samoa, New Guinea and many colonies in south west Africa. Russia ruled over Finland, Poland
and several central Asian regions as an imperial power. Land was in high demand for these
imperial powers who were constanting fighting over unclaimed land. Imperialism of unidentified
land or and land being capable of being conquered was a major cause of World War I because it
caused these imperial powers to start war on each other.

which all created tensions between European countries. Although the direct cause of the war was

Lowering The Legal Drinking Age
As we know, the United States has the highest drinking age in the world. By 1988 the entire U.S
had adopted the Federal Uniform Drinking Age Act, which set the drinking age to twenty one.
However, in 1920 the United States banned the sale, production, importation, and transportation
of alcohol. This era known as the Prohibition sparked the popularity of hidden underground bars
and events. The Prohibition Era is a prime example of how people did anything to intake alcohol
and eventually this led to the act of doing illegal things. It is obvious to say that many people in
the 1920 s were going against the law and were consuming alcohol. Today, this age seems to be a
topic of controversy and debate. Many countries have established their drinking age to eighteen and
younger. To many people believe that the idea of lowering the legal drinking agein the United States
seems great. However, others believe that this idea may bring upon more conflict and tragedy. The
drinking age should not be lowered and should stay at the uniform drinking age of twenty one.
Ruth C. Engs, a professor at Indiana University, supports the idea that the drinking age should be
lowered and should allow young adults to drink in controlled environments. She firmly believes
that by lowering the drinking age will result in a decrease in irresponsible drinking that can lead to
devastation. In opposition, Honor Whiteman states that the drinking age should be kept where it is
because it saves

Electroconvulsive Therapy Essay
After researching electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), I have decided that if a close family
member or even myself were severely depressed I would not support the use of ECT.
Electroconvulsive therapy consists of an electrical shock, which is used to produce a seizure.
Many people experience seizures due to some other type of illness or illnesses, and in these cases
there is medicine taken in order to prevent these occurrences. In deciding my opinion on the topic
of ECT I asked myself would I want to put myself or a loved one through what others are trying
to avoid; a seizure. Although ECT has proven to be effective in some cases of depression, it has
many risk factorsinvolved and it does not ensure a lifetime with out the reoccurrence of... Show

Prior to the actual treatment, the patient is given general anesthesia and a muscle relaxant.
Electrodes are then attached to the patient s scalp and an electric current is applied which causes a
brief convulsion. Minutes later, the patient awakens confused and without memory of events
surrounding the treatment. This treatment is usually repeated three times a week for two to four
weeks. The number of treatments varies from six to twelve. It is often recommended that the
patient maintain a limited intake of medication, after the ECT treatments, to reduce the chance of
relapse.
Electroconvulsive therapy is a very controversial issue.
Much of the controversy surrounding this topic revolves around its effectiveness vs. the side
effects, and the recent increase in ECT as a quick and easy solution, instead of long term
psychotherapy or hospitalization. Because of the concern about permanent memory loss and
confusion related to ECT treatment, some researchers recommend that the treatment only be used
as a last resort. It is also unclear whether or not ECT is effective. However, other studies indicate
that the relapse rate is high, even for patients who take medication after ECT. Some researchers
insist that no study proves that ECT is effective for more than four weeks.
The side effects were also what strongly aided in helping

Effects Of Glaciers On The Environment
As time progresses more and more emissions are expelled into our atmosphere. While this
happens at the current rate, our world begins to warm and the climates begin to change. One of
the largest impacts we see in our world is glaciers retreating at a pace that seems unstoppable. As
the glaciers retreat we see the surrounding ecosystems changing with them. The water put off
into the oceans impacts not only molecules in the water but the life within it. As glaciers retreat
more and more questions arise but one pressing factor is how it is affecting entire surrounding
regions. It is questionable to see if some species are adapting to the receding of glaciers or if
populations are directly impacted. Since glaciers play a huge role in the environment, it can
only be predicted that it will impact many species dramatically. This can be predicted because of
the noticeable change in the ecosystems around them. Glaciers hold a huge mass that not only
covers large areas of land but shapes and changes the landscape. Since Prince William Sound has
so many glaciers feeding into its region it is an ideal area to observe.. Since glaciers are such
influential masses in our environment it can be predicted that their retreat has direct impact in
their region. Prince William Sound is located in Southeast Alaska and is in the Chugach National
Forest. The Sound is home to a temperate rainforest and is over 2 million acres. Prince William
Sound is home to around 150 glaciers, over 220 species of

Limited Liability Companies ( Llcs ) Essay
Limited Liability Companies (LLCs) Rationale. The advent of the limited liability company in the
1990 s came about primarily to promote small business start ups by providing substantial asset
protection, simpler rules, and favorable state and local tax treatments (Millon, 2007; Riles
Whitlock, 2003: Vandervoort, 2004). LLCs are also typically easier and less expensive to form and
manage than a corporationand quickly became the entity of choice (Hopson Hopson, 2014).
Similarities to corporations. Like corporations, LLCs are separate legal entities, and as with the
shareholders of corporations, the members of LLCs are provided significant asset protection from
creditors and other stakeholders (Riles Whitlock, 2003) by limiting the liability to the amount of the
capital contribution (Albert, 2015). This shifts the risk of failure and insolvency from the members
to the creditors (Millon, 2007).
Differences from corporations. Many of the differences between LLCs and corporations have
been the crux in the area of litigation, the first being the lack of corporate formalities. Unlike a
corporation, an LLC can be managed by its members or appointed managers and does not require
periodic meetings. Although every state now has LLC legislation (Albert, 2015) which impose
default fiduciary duties, these duties can be modified or eliminated altogether by the members of
the LLC (Raju Remming, 2012). As opposed to corporations following FASB ASC 105 Generally

The Cycle Of Socialization ( C.o )
1)Define describe the Cycle of Socialization (C.O.S), the Cycle of Liberation (C.O.L). Explain
how they relate to how Hip Hop has been shaped, giving two examples from either reading and
/or in class. The Cycle of Socialization is the cycle in which shapes who we are mentally,
morally, and characteristically. The first step in the COS, is the Lens of Identity. This is where
the person is socialized through their own personal lens, or they are taught on a personal level.
Examples of this is one s peers, teachers, or family. There is usually unquestionable trust in these
people. The second step is Institution Culture, where we are bombarded with subliminal messages
by these two factors each day. Institution, would be things such as School, a Business, or the
Media (one of the largest in the institution factor). Culture, would be things like what we have
done in class, such as studying lyrics, language, patterns of conscious and unconscious though.
The last step, is the Lens of Experience. This is one of the most important, because we have now
become experienced in life, and know many things that many may not ever know. With this
though, we have two choices of what we can do. The first choice, is to do nothing; we can remain
stagnant, and go a long to get along because that is the easier way to do things. Or, we can cause
change, raise consciousness, and interrupt the stagnant problem help with fixing it. When we do
this though, it leads into the next cycle,

For the Muslim community, this is tied to their cultural identity and sense of belonging here in the United States. The journal article states that It encourages skepticism and innovation and is thus subversive of the status quo (Moore 118). In other words, pluralism works to fight against a secular world and opens the door to change. It s easy to politically marginalize a group of people who make up a small fraction of the total U.S population. Being underrepresented and feeling like they do not have a voice in the government puts a halt on any form of change and make it even more difficult to establish a sense of belonging. The U.S in term of an industrialized powerhouse is a the top which contributes to its political power, however, the inclusion of Muslim Americans is almost nonexistent. For many Muslim Americans, it is difficult to continue publicly supporting and celebrating their culture, religion, and heritage out of fear of the backlash. People fear that in which is different from the norm but, America is founding upon the idea of freedom and diversity. Inclusion and tolerance should not be something that has to be required rather a principle ingrained in each individual from the very beginning. This journal article aimed to discuss the meaning of pluralism in the U.S and in doing so highlights the fact that given the current trajectory and the Muslim experience in the United States, it now more vital than ever to take a step back and examine the impact of how minorities are treated and the steps necessary for social and political ... These were some of the questions that I was thinking during the short story Runs Girl by Chinelo Okparanta. The story of a young girl who becomes a runs girl, which is a Nigerian escort, to earn money to pay for her mother s medical treatment. I found the story to be interesting, which I believe to be the most challenging about short stories typically. Making the reader emotionally involved and invested in a story and characters in only a small number of pages. Symbolism and foreshadowing was a major literary tool in tell of this story. The theme of compassion is a major aspect of the story that influence Ada and her mother s actions. The mother was once a fun loving, and even described as gregarious lively sprit. Until her husband past away. She then flipped like a switch, and became more reserved. The relationship between her and her daughter Ada changed too. It becomes more cold and distant. • 6. The American Legion s Product Development By Implementing... Strategic Alternatives The few strategies that I suggest that the American legion begins to use are to attempt product development by implementing social media as a marketing tool. By using social media as a huge part of the marketing this allows the American Legion to see exactly how many people are viewing their ads. It also gives them the chance to customize who they exactly want to target. This can allow for less old school marketingsuch as magazines, post cards, newspapers, or ads which all of these allowed the Legion to waste of lot of money per year on them. As I have stressed many times throughout this paper, the net assets have been cut in over half in the last four years alone. They have high expenses and a lot of it was... Strategy Choice and Rationale If the American Legion reached out to their competitors such as collaborating with the Wounded Warriors Project, Disables American Veterans (DAV), Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), or the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) would be effectively embracing trade offs with offering something to other organizations as well effectively gaining something from other organizations as well. I would love to see the American Legion get together with all of these organizations, putting a large event on, have a few celebrities show up as well and really put the American Legion on the map and leveraging other outlets than just their own endeavors. Having a strategy of strategies is crucial especially at the tipping point of where the Legion is as a whole; in class we have discussed many great ideas as a small group of individuals with business mindsets, as outsiders and some from younger generations are able to put our twist on the Strategies of the American Legion and pinpoint both the strengths and weaknesses. • 7. Impact Of Pollution On Ozone Depletion Jamie Kanzler Extended Essay: What is the impact of pollution on ozone depletion? Section 1: Introduction Air is classified as a mixture because it is made up of many different elements. These elements include 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, 1% Argon, .4% water vapor, and .04% carbon dioxide. Human activity has a very large effect on the air in our environment. Over time, humans have caused the once clean air to become polluted with chemicals. These chemicals are called pollutants. A pollutant is defined as a substance created from human activity, that is present at a concentration greater than its natural levels, and has a harmful effect on the environment. Many different pollutants exist in our air today and the concentration of these chemicals causes their toxicity to vary. Generally, pollutants are classified into two groups: primary and secondary pollutants. A primary pollutant is a chemical that enters directly into the atmosphere. Common primary pollutants include nitrogen monoxide, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, and volatile organic compounds. A volatile organic compound is a compound of carbon that participates in a photochemical reaction in the atmosphere. The second type of pollutant, a secondary pollutant, is produced when primary pollutants go through a chemical reaction with environmental constituents in the atmosphere. • 9. Rhetorical Analysis Of Pope Francis I will be analyzing the speech of Pope Francis to a Joint Session of Congress from September of 2015 in Washington, D.C. for my final rhetorical analysis. This speech is important because it addresses societal issues in the United States and the whole world such as poverty, religion, war, the environment, immigration, and gun laws. The popenot only addresses the issues, but also acknowledges many of the marvelous features of America. In this paper, I will provide a summary of research I found on the context of the speech, the speaker, the audience, and the effects the speech had on society. Pope Francis is the present day spiritual leader of the Catholic Church, also known as the bishop of Rome or pontiff. He is the very first pope from Latin American, Argentina specifically, and is now known as the first pope ever that has addressed Congress. According to the guardian.com, Pope Francis, electrified Congress with a call for action on climate change, immigration, poverty and capital punishment, laying down a challenge for the United States to transcend division and rediscover its ideals (Carroll 1). He addressed these issues and drew a great interest from the audience for fifty one minutes in the chamber of the House of Representatives. The audience of the speech consisted of a large number of lawmakers, aides, and invited guests. The New York Times, referenced some of the people that attended: Sitting behind Francis were Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. and House Speaker John A. Boehner, both Catholics. Flanking the aisle at the front were Secretary of State John Kerry and Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., and not far behind them was Nancy Pelosi, the House Democratic leader, all Catholics (Baker, Yardley 17). Others in the audience included three other Supreme Court associate justices, Justice Anthony Kennedy, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and Justice Sonia Sotomayor, other cabinet members, senators, House members, presidential candidates, a few four star generals, priests, nuns, and bishops. According to the New York Times, the lawmakers interrupted Pope Francis about thirty times applauding him, causing the speech to run fifty one minutes when originally scheduled for thirty. *****add ... • 13. Unit 11 Assignment 2 Cardiovascular And Transport Systems Unit 11 Assignment 2: Cardiovascular and Respiratory Systems M2. Explain the need for a transport system in a multi cellular organism There are two types of cellular organisms: Unicellular organism Multi cellular organism Unicellular Organism A unicellular organism is a single celled organism (one cell), which is to rely on the process of diffusion, when moving different substances in and out of other cells, due to its structure it has a larger surface area in comparison to its volume; this is because each organism is built for a specific function. However, they transport materials such as oxygen and urea in and out of bodies, through diffusion and osmosis. Multi cellular Organism A multi cellular is consists of more than one cell, it has a small surface area, compared to its volume. This means that its structure is specialised to do more than one function, especially exchanging surfaces, such as lungs, and transporting systems. Its transportation system requires food and oxygen to be transported from one place to another. Why do we need a transport system? The reason for having a transport system is because the single celled organisms, also known as unicellular organism are small, meaning that they have a large surface area, in comparison to their volume; a large surface area to volume ratio. As they are known for having one cell, the substances diffuse through their relatively large plasma membrane. This also means that they are able to diffuse ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Colorism And Racism Racism is prominent in the United States. Growing up in my small, predominately white town I did not recognize it. I had difficulty comprehending what racism is. As I have grown and developed my understanding of the many identities I hold, I have come to realize racism is the systematic oppression of people of color rooted in discrimination through the historical power, privilege given to the dominate identity. With this definition of racism, I can recall many occurrences in my childhood where I faced both direct and indirect racism. For me a prominent and constant sense of racism comes from the beauty industry regarding colorism. Colorism is the discrimination based on skin color. The dominate color or White is considered more desirable and better than darker colors. For me, colorism came from both folks of my own raceand those of the dominate identity. Being raised within the South Asian community I encountered a strong sense of colorism through beauty standards. Lighter skin tone was considered better than darker skin tone. This is evident through the large skin whitening industry within South Asian community. Colorism extremely influenced me. I saw all my favorite Bollywood actresses having light complexions. • 17. The Dust Bowl Effect On The Great Depression The Dust Bowl s Effect on the Great Depression The Grapes of Wrath, by John Steinbeck, pays homage to the critical impact the Great Depression had on dust bowl farmers. The growing demand for wheat products forced farmers to overgraze their property. This reduced the overall usefulness and biodiversity of the land, and attributed to the desertification of their establishments. With this, the once lush fields turned to dust, which blew away with the commencement of the severe drought in the early 1930s. Steinbeck utilizes the lives of the Joad family to depict how farmers were often forced to flee their homes in search of better jobs during this time period. Because of the stock market s demise, no one was purchasing their crops. Banks were required to drive farmers out of their homes, as they could not afford to keep supporting them without profit. The agricultural devastation of the Dust Bowl intensified the economical impact of the Great Depression and added to the misery of the migrant workers. The wrath of nature unleashed itself on the migrant farmers during the 1930s. During this time period, the entirety of the Midwest was plagued with drought. In fact, new scientific studies found that the drought of the 1930s was the worst in North America in the last 300 years (The National Drought Mitigation Center). • 19. The Prevalence Of Parkinson s Disease Individuals worldwide are affected by Parkinson s disease. Parkinson s is a chronic disorder with onset of symptoms occurring at a mean age of 60 years. The prevalence of Parkinson s increases with age and may affect up to 5% of individuals over 79 years old. (Tosin, Campos, Andrade, Oliveira, Santana, 2015). Those affected by the disease, experience impairments in movement, balance, and have difficulty performing everyday life tasks. Due to posture deficits and gait dysfunction, patients with Parkinson s have an increased risk of falling which may lead to secondary health problems. Although exercise programs have been implemented to decrease falls, few programs are proven successful. (Li, Harmer, Fitzgerald, Eckstrom, Stock, Galver, Maddalozzo, Batya, 2012). In order to find an effective program in decreasing falls, nurses are performing various rehabilitation interventions that focus on improving postural stability. Two examples of interventions include QiGong and Tai Chi. Qi Gong is a mindful exercise that effects neuroplasticity in the brain and can have an effect on the postural instability that Parkinson s patients experience (Loftus, 2014). Tai Chi is a balance based exercise that may have an effect on muscle strength and stability for those living with Parkinson s (Li, et al., 2012). Qi Gong and Tai Chi are two rehabilitation interventions that nurses are implementing to prove whether or not complementary exercise programs improve posture enough to ... • 20. Kudzu Vs Herbicides Most mechanical means of kudzu removal practiced in the southeastern United States involve mowing the vine or cutting it back. These methods, though more effective than herbicides, are more time consuming. Vines must be mowed down just above ground level every month or two during the growing season in order to prevent them from growing back. When using this method of kudzu control, all of the plant material must be removed and/or destroyed (burned) to prevent the vines from taking root and re growing (Miller, J. H., Edwards, B. , 1983). A different, and sometimes less time consuming option for the control of kudzu is chemical treatment with herbicides. • 21. I Visited My House After Two Months I visited my house after two months. Everyone was fast asleep. I went inside my room.It was almost midnight and I was trying to clear my head. I kept thinking about my life and how it has turned into nuisance. I couldn t imagine any scenarios that could keep my infuriated mind in a placid state. I decided to wake up, drink the Starbucks that I was fond of and start writing about how I can get the life I want to live. As I took a sip from that frigid bottle I heard a creak from outside the window. The rusty gate between those old fences kept on making a squeak as the wind bashed it every now and then. I never discerned that annoying sound it made before. It must have been the way I used to see the world I lived in before. Never troubled and never perturbed. My mindwas so prone to distractions as it constantly looked for things to whine about. That squeaky gate made me obnoxious. It felt like my fate was laughing on me. But, instead of being agitated, I decided to think calmly and go to the living room where that rusty old gate couldn t trouble me. I sat down on the sofa which wasn t frayed before. It must have been the Ragdoll I thought, my aunt who visited last week loves him so much. I decided to turn my laptop on and write down things I needed to change in order to be contented. Just as I started typing my password, it creaked again. Before I got my brains to steam up, I realized I left the windows and the door of my room open. I shut the window and banged the door. I ... • 22. Importance Of The Numbered Treaties And The Native... This essay will outline the importance of the numbered treaties and the Native relations at the time. This includes the events that occurred in 1871 1877 and will specifically outline the importance of Treaty Number 6. Although the numbered treaties were intended to benefit both the Natives and the Canadian government, in many cases, the treaties were not as favourable or beneficial to the natives as they were to the state. The natives were forced to signthe treaties and even when the treaties were signed, the Canadian government did not keep the promises that the Natives were entitled to. Although the treaties were signed, the lack of interest in the aboriginal communities by the government caused dissatisfaction in the native communities. The growing disappointment in government led to retaliations and rebellions. Soon after the passing of Constitution Act of 1867, there were threats of United States expanding north. This marked the beginning of the territorial race between United States and Canada, which required urgent western expansion. British Columbia joined the Confederation in 1871 after the promise of transcontinental railway which added to urgency of western expansion. The prime minister of Canada, John A. McDonald wanted to connect the east and the west of Canada in order to occupy the west. McDonald needed to increase the population in the western Canada, which meant that large amount of farmland were needed and transcontinental railways had to be laid. This ... This poem was written when she was pregnant with her first child so the emotions she was feeling were at full throttle. Through her use of similes and metaphors Plath is able to portray these first time emotions as excitement of a soon to be mother starts to grow. It is no secret that Sylvia Plath thought very highly of her soon to be child. There is no way however she can express this love in normal words. She must use figurative language to portray this new love. For example Plath writes, Gilled like a fish. A common sense (line 3). She has high hopes for a child she hasn t even met yet, but is so in tune with her emotions she is feeling during her pregnancy she is able to use these metaphors to show her expectations. • 24. Informative Essay About Anime Anime, is a term that is used to represent Japanese animation (Lamarre 1). It is a combination of both form of content and form of expression. However, there seems to be more emphasis on form of content rather than expression when discussing anime. Form of content includes the genre, story and narrative while form of expression includes the animation and the style. Form of content can be described as what the audience is being shown and the message that is conveyed. On the other hand, form of expression emphasizes how the animation is shown and as a means for the animation to be shown. However, when she is out the door and running, the background moves along with her. This demonstrates a pull cels technique since the single image is pulled across the background as Usagi is running towards school. There is also stillness in the background in various scenes. When Usagi is kneeling on the street and contemplating about showing her mother her test, we see people in the background. These people are still and do not move, even when she Usagi walks down the road. During these type of scenes, sound would be the carrier of information since the background is still. • 30. Urban Missions Of The United States This book is a stirring challenge to give due consideration to urban missions, both the need for them and their uniqueness. It also addresses numerous issues related to missions in general. The following are several notable examples of many correctives the authors propose. Missiologists plan how best to reach specific sectors of society. This necessitates setting strategies and programs based on empirical statistical data resulting from research and development. Contrary to what urbanologists once conjectured, family ties do not necessarily disintegrate in the city with the home playing a significantly smaller role in the lives and attitudes of city dwellers (p. 19). In fact, quite often it is the very opposite. Homes may well provide the primary matrix for social networking, etc. Another significant corrective focuses on the role evangelization plays in social reform. Based on the research of Emilo Willems, a sociologist but not an evangelical, Greenway says, Conversion to the evangelical faith is the most important single factor in the reorientation of individual and family lives and in general upward mobility in the urban setting (p. 20). Still the authors argue for the church s additional involvement in meeting physical needs. The trend of today s preachers has a tendency to lose site of the man or cause one to bury oneself in his own agenda and/or organization calling it God s plans. Following the fall of the Qin Dynasty in 206 B.C.E., the Han Dynastywas founded by Liu Bang. Bang veered away from a policy of centralized power, and moved towards a system of power concentrating on the imperial court. The Han Dynasty adopted ideals from both Confucianism and Legalism. Additionally, the Han fostered the Silk Road, which allowed for long distance trade and better communication among nations. The immense expansion of both foreign and domestic trade enabled the Han to prosper greatly. Furthermore, the addition of new technologies such as iron casting, textile manufacturing, and watermills allowed the Han economy to further advance itself. The leading factor of the decline of the Han Dynasty was its inability to restrict the power of wealthy clans who constructed large estates on vast areas of land and made tenants out of free farmers. The mother uses her hand flippers to dig a circular hole 40 to 50 centimeters deep. When the nest is dug, she starts filling it with soft shelled eggs until she has placed around 50 to 350 eggs. Some only lay 250 eggs depending on the species. After she fills the hole with eggs she fills it with sand and makes sure it has a smooth surface. She then camouflages the nest with grass so it s harder for predators to find. It takes her about 30 to 60 minutes for the whole process. The mother then returns to the ocean while the eggs are untended. The turtle gender depends on the temperature of the sand. Lighter sands make higher temperature so that decreases incubation which makes more female turtles. It is warmer in the middle of the nest so those sea turtles will most likely be females. Incubation takes about 50 to 60 days. The eggs hatch together over a short amount of time. The hatchlings tear the egg apart with their caruncle and an egg tooth. They then dig through the sand. Homer in both his most famous works the Iliad and The Odyssey weaves poetry based on centuries worth of oral stories handed down and uses a sophisticated style of writing that is still recognized today. Homer portrayed Achilles as arrogant because he allowed his men to fight a battle he knew they could not win without him. Achilles asked his mother for Zeus to favor the Trojans so that he could regain the honor that he felt Agamemnon stripped away. Aeneas s tragic flaw unlike Achilles was his sense of duty, which in turn he encountered pitfalls during his escape from Troy. Achilles battled for personal glory and his own honor as a warrior whereas Aeneas spent his time attempting to fulfill his mission, which forced him to invade and conquer, a duty given to him by the gods. Virgil unites and conjoins all the virtues in the formation of his hero: He gives him religion towards the gods, piety towards his country, tenderness and friendship towards his relations, and equity and justice towards all (Rapin). On the contrary, Homer magnified the tragic flaw in Achilles, which cost him his sanity because he became obsessive with revenge. Although Aeneas s flaw appears minor in comparison to Achilles, it led him to be an instrument of gods, which in turn destroyed innocent lives. Drugs are known to work in the brain by activating certain brain circuits via different mechanisms, and stimulate or inhibit different neurons in the pathway. However, due to the effects of each drug being different, a drug will affect either different pathways and neurons in the brain to that of another, or through a different process, i.e. direct or indirect activity. This essay will discuss the different mechanisms of action that cocaine, ecstasy, heroin and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cocaine, on the other hand, has been found to have a profound effect on increased dopamine activity. Kennedy Hanbauer (1983; cited in Karch, 2007) found a strong correlation between cocaine binding and the inhibition of dopamine uptake, and therefore proposed that dopamine transporters are binding sites for cocaine. Such research, which correlates strong reinforcing properties of cocaine with inhibition of dopamine transporters, suggests that cocaine has a more significant affect upon dopamine, than than it has upon serotonin and noradrenaline. The excessive role of dopamine can explain the high degree of pleasure that users of cocaine experience, as well as depression and cravings, which follow. In contrast to ecstasy and cocaine, which increase the secretion of natural neurotransmitters by blocking transporters, direct agonists imitate natural endogenous neuromediators and bind to their receptors. Heroin and cannabis are both examples of direct agonists. Many regions of the brain contain cannabinoid receptors, of which anandamide molecules, concerned with regulating mood, appetite and emotions, naturally bind to. Cannabis contains an active ingredient known as delta 9 tetrahydrocannabonic (THC), and when smoked or eaten, the THC imitates the activity of anandamide by binding to cannabinoid receptors on nerve cells, and therefore influences ... In certain ways they are all different no matter if they are just teachers they are just like super heroes people watch in movies. Although there will be many teachers in my life and other students there will always be that one teacher who makes a spark within a student. Although I may had many close friendships the one that I personally favor the most is Mrs. Jones. Most teachers have the aspect of kind, caring, respectful, or supposed to have these average aspects of a teacher. Mrs. Jones takes is further than any teacher I could ever remember could. From just taking certain aspects like these and expressing it every single day is a miracle. Moreover, as I was a young child I wouldn t get as high grades as I would today, it was hard for me to understand more of how things worked and what I needed to improve with. In the old neighborhood schools most teachers wouldn t care about students and just give them work and tests and that would it for the day. As soon as I got into school#7 it would be harsh leaving back my old friends at School 14. As I gained knowledge here I improved in many of my skills but I wasn t classified as an AP Student like my mother wanted, she wanted even more from me and decided to make me be more interested in school. • 43. Genesis And Job Essay In the Bible, the books of Genesis and Job, each give a description of the creation of heaven and earth. They depict different views and styles but share the same idea that God is the creator. Genesis 1 2 is the most popular and well known story that says God created everything in six days and the seventh day was rest. In the book of Job 38 40, the concept of creation was told to Job in order to make him understand why he was suffering and to perceive the ways of God. The first chapter in Genesis defines the beginning as being majestic and analytical. It demonstrates a limited description of how life will continue to be maintained in everyday growth and how the earth will continue to bring food for all living things (Gen. 1:29 30). Genesis also suggest that the Creator was a one time occurance at the beginning of time. It explains what God created each day and in chapter 2 clarifies the creation of man and woman. On the other hand, Job provides imagery and metaphors to help the human mind to wrap around the concept of how the universe was formed. For example, God speaks to Job ... • 44. A Case For A Partnership Agreement 10. Kathleen and Jim are business partners at a consulting firm. Upon Jim s sudden death, his widow claims that she is entitled to a share of the firm s assets or should be able to take his Jims place as Kathleen s partner. Is she entitled to her claims? Why or why not? The outcome of this case depends on whether or not a partnership agreement was formed prior to the partner s death. If the partnership agreement wasn t formed, general partnership State statues will take default (Clarkson, 2015, p. 721). However, a partnership agreement will always override state laws. If the provisions allow the partnership to continue after a partner s death, the wife will be entitled to her husband s shares and if the provisions don t state otherwise she will also be able to take over his place in the firm (Wright, 2016). If a partnership agreement does not exist, most states will require a partnership to dissolve after a partner s death. The deceased partner s shares will be used to pay off any debts or obligations and the remainder funds will be distributed to the surviving partners (Wright, 2016). If the deceased partner includes his wife in his will, then a portion of the funds will be distributed to his wife after the dissolution. If his will is in probate, the funds will be distributed to his estate (Wright, 2016). A major disadvantage of not having a partnership agreement, is the risk of the spouse demanding her inheritance immediately (Wright, 2016). Since the partner s capital is ... • 47. Lowering The Legal Drinking Age As we know, the United States has the highest drinking age in the world. By 1988 the entire U.S had adopted the Federal Uniform Drinking Age Act, which set the drinking age to twenty one. However, in 1920 the United States banned the sale, production, importation, and transportation of alcohol. This era known as the Prohibition sparked the popularity of hidden underground bars and events. The Prohibition Era is a prime example of how people did anything to intake alcohol and eventually this led to the act of doing illegal things. It is obvious to say that many people in the 1920 s were going against the law and were consuming alcohol. Today, this age seems to be a topic of controversy and debate. Many countries have established their drinking age to eighteen and younger. To many people believe that the idea of lowering the legal drinking agein the United States seems great. However, others believe that this idea may bring upon more conflict and tragedy. The drinking age should not be lowered and should stay at the uniform drinking age of twenty one. Ruth C. Engs, a professor at Indiana University, supports the idea that the drinking age should be lowered and should allow young adults to drink in controlled environments. She firmly believes that by lowering the drinking age will result in a decrease in irresponsible drinking that can lead to devastation. In opposition, Honor Whiteman states that the drinking age should be kept where it is because it saves ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The number of treatments varies from six to twelve. It is often recommended that the patient maintain a limited intake of medication, after the ECT treatments, to reduce the chance of relapse. Electroconvulsive therapy is a very controversial issue. Much of the controversy surrounding this topic revolves around its effectiveness vs. the side effects, and the recent increase in ECT as a quick and easy solution, instead of long term psychotherapy or hospitalization. Because of the concern about permanent memory loss and confusion related to ECT treatment, some researchers recommend that the treatment only be used as a last resort. It is also unclear whether or not ECT is effective. However, other studies indicate that the relapse rate is high, even for patients who take medication after ECT. Some researchers insist that no study proves that ECT is effective for more than four weeks. The side effects were also what strongly aided in helping ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Effects Of Glaciers On The Environment As time progresses more and more emissions are expelled into our atmosphere. While this happens at the current rate, our world begins to warm and the climates begin to change. One of the largest impacts we see in our world is glaciers retreating at a pace that seems unstoppable. As the glaciers retreat we see the surrounding ecosystems changing with them. The water put off into the oceans impacts not only molecules in the water but the life within it. As glaciers retreat more and more questions arise but one pressing factor is how it is affecting entire surrounding regions. It is questionable to see if some species are adapting to the receding of glaciers or if populations are directly impacted. Since glaciers play a huge role in the environment, it can only be predicted that it will impact many species dramatically. This can be predicted because of the noticeable change in the ecosystems around them. Glaciers hold a huge mass that not only covers large areas of land but shapes and changes the landscape. Since Prince William Sound has so many glaciers feeding into its region it is an ideal area to observe.. • 50. Limited Liability Companies ( Llcs ) Essay Limited Liability Companies (LLCs) Rationale. The advent of the limited liability company in the 1990 s came about primarily to promote small business start ups by providing substantial asset protection, simpler rules, and favorable state and local tax treatments (Millon, 2007; Riles Whitlock, 2003: Vandervoort, 2004). LLCs are also typically easier and less expensive to form and manage than a corporationand quickly became the entity of choice (Hopson Hopson, 2014). Similarities to corporations. Like corporations, LLCs are separate legal entities, and as with the shareholders of corporations, the members of LLCs are provided significant asset protection from creditors and other stakeholders (Riles Whitlock, 2003) by limiting the liability to the amount of the capital contribution (Albert, 2015). This shifts the risk of failure and insolvency from the members to the creditors (Millon, 2007). Differences from corporations. Many of the differences between LLCs and corporations have been the crux in the area of litigation, the first being the lack of corporate formalities. Unlike a corporation, an LLC can be managed by its members or appointed managers and does not require periodic meetings. Although every state now has LLC legislation (Albert, 2015) which impose default fiduciary duties, these duties can be modified or eliminated altogether by the members of the LLC (Raju Remming, 2012). Explain how they relate to how Hip Hop has been shaped, giving two examples from either reading and /or in class. The Cycle of Socialization is the cycle in which shapes who we are mentally, morally, and characteristically. The first step in the COS, is the Lens of Identity. This is where the person is socialized through their own personal lens, or they are taught on a personal level. Examples of this is one s peers, teachers, or family. There is usually unquestionable trust in these people. The second step is Institution Culture, where we are bombarded with subliminal messages by these two factors each day. Institution, would be things such as School, a Business, or the Media (one of the largest in the institution factor). Culture, would be things like what we have done in class, such as studying lyrics, language, patterns of conscious and unconscious though. The last step, is the Lens of Experience. This is one of the most important, because we have now become experienced in life, and know many things that many may not ever know. With this though, we have two choices of what we can do. The first choice, is to do nothing; we can remain stagnant, and go a long to get along because that is the easier way to do things. Or, we can cause change, raise consciousness, and interrupt the stagnant problem help with fixing it. When we do this though, it leads into the next cycle, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
