The Chokwe are famous for art items produced to celebrate and legalize the royal court. The art
objects can include elaborately carved stools and chairs used as thrones. Most of the sculptures are
portraits, which represent the royal ancestry. Staffs, sceptres, and spears are among other implements
sculpted to celebrate the court. Chokwe origin can perhaps be traced to the Mbuti and Pygmies.
Between 1600 and 1850 they were under extensive influence from the Lunda states and were centrally
located in Angola. In the second half of the 19th century though, substantial improvement of the trade
routes between the Chokwe homelands and the Angolan coast led to increased trade of ivory and
rubber. Wealth acquired from this allowed the Chokwe kingdom to develop, eventually overtaking the

ethnicity. This was a quote by the actress, Catherine Zeta Jones, when asked to speak Spanish in an
interview for the Univision media network. This is one of the many results that come from of a
complex reality of identity. Individuality is controlled by a social structure that labels a person based
on similarities to a particular ethnic group. Society has the need to shape the ethnic identity of a
person. They are categorized into a homogenized group defined by resemblances of their nationality
and culture. This results in discrimination and oppression. The fact of a person s identity has never
been neutral. The way a person is treated by society, according to how they are perceived, is the cause
of identifying and shaping an identity with social factors that provide a negative outlook on cultural
tolerance. The complex reality of identity is a factor that is influenced by the culture a person was
raised in and handed down to by their families. This causes society to take that factor and turn it into a
way of establishing an identity upon people. Due to a resemblance to an ethnic background, people are
compared according to their social, financial, and behavioral status. Society will always attempt to
identify a person to their best knowledge to feel a sense of belonging and being at a minimal level of
thinking with ethnic groups to be comfortable with racial differences.

The U.s. National Debt
The U.S. national debt is very large at more than three quarters the size of the economy and growing
federal spending, especially on entitlements, is quickly driving the debt to damaging levels. Federal
spending was about 23 percent of the GDP in 2012 far above the historical average of 20.2 percent. It
is projected to surge to nearly 36 percent in less than one generation. The government debt must be
limited in some way or else our economy will face devastating consequences. The government debt
has had its highs and lows throughout history in comparison to the GDP, and to reduce it, we must
minimize spending on entitlements such as Social Security and Medicare.
Since its inception, the United States of America has had fluctuating amounts of debt. High points
usually follow in the wake of war or recessions, and low points usually occur in times of relative
stability in the U.S. Recently, however, the United States has amassed over 18 trillion dollars in debt.
The national debt has been rising steadily since the 1970 s and experienced a large growth around the
year 2009. From the years 1929 to 2009, the Debt to GDP ratio was approximately 48 percent on
average (excluding the years within the World War II era), while from 2009 2014 the Debt to GDP
ratio was approximately 97 percent. This increase was most likely the result of increased defense/war
spending, the Obama s American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, and the Troubled Asset Relief

¬¬¬The time between 2007 and 2009 was devastating for America and most of the world. It marked
the greatest depression since the Great Depression and put our economy in turmoil. It also put a
massive amount of people out of a job and into debt. Throughout this time, almost everyone hurt, from
homeowners to massive corporations that is besides the market of the super elite. During this time that
people and companies struggled to keep up, while the elite class was still living life to its fullest. 55%
of the adults in U.S. labor force have experienced some work related hardship. Whether by choice or
necessity, many Americans have already significantly scaled back their pre recession money habits.
Americans have changed their lifestyles in many different ways to make ends meet during this
recession. 71% percent of those polled have bought less expensive brands, 57% have cut back or
canceled vacation plans, 24% among adults ages 18 to 29 have moved back in with their parents and 3
in 10 have cut back on addictive substances such as alcohol or cigarette consumption, which is
considered to be an inelastic goods (Zogby n.pag.) To really understand this situation it is crucial to
realize what a recession really is. In January 2008 economists were not even sure yet if the economy
was heading into a recession, yet the National Bureau of Economic Research determined in December
2008 that the U.S. had really been in a recession since December 2007 (Lim, 2008). The economic

The Political Effects Of Traditional Family Values
After the cultural revolution of the 1960s caused all of these effects, traditional family values truly
became a political manner. Ronald Reagan used the word family 17 times in a nationally televised
speech, while his opponent, President Ford, called for tax policies to preserve the family home, the
family farm, and the family business. Jimmy Carter worried aloud about the traditional family during
his 1976 campaign trial. It could be argued that these politicians were overplaying the family issue,
but these issues clearly became political nonetheless. This family issue had presented itself on both the
left and the right, and the struggle of both parties during this time period was to assert their own
definition of family into mainstream politics. On the left, breadwinner liberalism s approach to family
began losing its appeal as real wages stagnated, inflation reached double digits, trade unions
weakened, and more families than any other point in American history since World War II depended
on two people s incomes. Many Americans, including conservatives, felt as if the liberal approach to
restoring the family had failed. Furthermore, women s advocates and feminists affirmed the positive
rights of women, called for the expansion of rights of gays and children, and promoted policies that
they believed would straighten the economic wellbeing of families. However, these liberals were not
as successful as conservatives in this conflict, and the family had become more
