Cohort Study Alzheimer s Disease
The Canadian Study of Health and Aging performed a large scale cohort study to analyze risk factors
for Alzheimer s disease. In 1991, they selected 6,434 subjects aged
65 and older, all of which lived throughout the ten provinces of Canada; 4,615 were alive for the
follow up study done in 1996. When the study began in 1991, all participants were cognitively normal,
and filled out a questionnaire for Alzheimer s risk factors. Five years later, the remaining participants
received a screening interview and a clinical examination when necessary. The follow up analysis
yielded 194 Alzheimer s cases and 3,894 normal controls. The factors concluded to be significantly
associated with increased risk of Alzheimer s were increasing age, fewer years of ... Show more

If the participants report any previous traumatic brain injuries, they will not be allowed to participate
in the study, because traumatic brain injuries are a risk factor for Alzheimer s and therefore could be a
confounding variable. If the participant have any relevant disorders or diseases, such as diabetes or
early dementia, they will be unable to participate in the study.
The participants who pass all of the requirements on the questionnaire will then be informed that they
will be paid $1,000 a year until death, all related fees covered, to
Gagnon 7 participate in this Alzheimer s study. The subjects who accept must agree to wear a fitness
tracker to track sleep and exercise. The subjects must also agree to complete at least three hours of
moderate exercise every week until the study is completed, until death, or until they drop out of the
study. This requirement is because exercise differentiations could be a confounding variable, so
exercise must be held constant for all subjects. Participants must also agree to take vitamin
supplements and adapt to

Continuities In Pompeii
On August 24th in 79 AD at approximately 1300 a cloud appeared over the Roman city of Pompeii.
This was all the warning the residents had before the nearby volcano, Mount Vesuvius, erupted. Huge
quantities of scalding hot ash, pumice and lava pebbles were thrown into the sky. This then cascaded
down across an extensive area. Pompeii was buried under 14 to 17 feet of ash and pumice, and the
nearby seacoast was drastically changed. Herculaneum was buried under more than 60 feet of mud
and volcanic material. Some residents of Pompeii later returned to dig out their destroyed homes and
salvage their valuables, but many treasures were left and then forgotten. The remains of 2,000 men,
women, and children were found at Pompeii. After perishing

Mexico Drug War
The United States and Mexico share a land border that runs 1,989 miles, but the relationship between
the two countries spreads well beyond the physical boundaries of land and water. In terms of legal and
regulated trade, Mexico is the third largest trade partner for the United States, making up roughly 13%
of all international commerce. However, Mexico would rank much higher in terms of U.S. trade
partners if illegal drug trade were to be factored in. In the Department of Justice s 2009 report, it was
estimated that Mexican drug cartels see a profit of $39 million, annually. Illegal drug trade has had an
enormous impact on the security of the border and the formation of the relationship between the

and Mexico should move forward to improve border security and the relationship between the two
countries. Some of those suggestions, such as legalizing drugs, were a bit more extreme than others,
such as reducing demand by decriminalizing drugs and rerouting funds to finance treatment facilities.
With such a wide variety of policies proposed, there may be a successful combination of policies
proposed in Cartels at War but it will take more than one of the policies proposed and it will take a
significant amount of time and cooperation of the Mexican State. Avoiding further militarization is a
good step. As stated throughout Cartels at War militaries with long term exposure to counternarcotic
operations face the risk of corruption and increased accidental use of force. Pulling military away
from the border for some time may be a good first step (Kan 137). Pairing decreased militarization
with strengthening of the Mexican State may be an excellent route to take, because this would allow
long term reform and strengthening of the Mexican Government and justice system. Cartels have such
a presence in the six border states, it will require an essentially revamped government to take control

Toward Intentional Interviewing and Counseling
Chapter 1 Toward Intentional Interviewing and Counseling
INTRODUCTION: WHAT IS THE CORRECT RESPONSE TO OFFER A CLIENT? * There are
many potentially useful responses in any interviewing situation. * Reflecting the client s emotions can
be helpful. * Selecting one aspect to focus on can be useful, and then later you can examine other
dimensions by asking an open question. * Our tasks: * Respect the client * Use appropriate skills and
strategies * Seek to alleviate stress
INTERVIEWING, COUNSELING, AND PSYCHOTHERAPY * INTERVIEWING * The most basic
process used for information gathering, problem solving, and psychosocial information giving. * Short
term only one or two sessions * Example: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
* Development and growth are the aim of all that we do; change * Search for strengths and resources
that will empower the client. * Relationship Story amp; strengths Goals Restory Action * As you listen
to stories, simultaneously search for more complex, unsaid stories that may lie behind the initial
narrative.
BOX 1 1 (page 18) * The word problem implies difficulty and the necessity of eliminating or solving
the problem. Problem may imply deficit. Not all problems can be solved. * Considering client issues
as problems can get in the way of a positive relationship. The words concern or issue suggest
something we all experience constantly. These words also suggest that we can deal with it (positive
standpoint). * Terming a problem a challenge is a call to our strengths and an opening for change. *
Help clients define their goals clearly and the positive assets they already have to resolve their issues.
Then you can help them restory with a can do self image.

The Musculoskeletal System Of The Human Body
Not only are there damages to the immune system of the human body, but the musculoskeletal system
is also at a very large risk for injury, even from the seat of a chair. German Researcher, T. Hettinger,
analyzed statistics on sick leave and found that musculoskeletal problems among administrative
workers were higher than in any other industrial sector, and similar to those in construction, metal
industry and transport (Cranz, 2000, p. 98). This is saying that people who are working office jobs,
which mainly comprise of sitting for extended periods of time compared to industrial jobs (heavy
labor), consist of a similar amount of people taking sick days due to injuries to their muscular system.

that fall rates were nearly 4 fold higher in the American than in the Japanese residents (Lipsitz et al.,
1994, p. 957). This shows the negative effect that sitting has on human behavior cross culturally by
comparing the lifestyles of societies whose people are deskbound to ones that are not. When cultures
such as the Japanese perform tasks such as squatting to use the toilet, or to stand up from a bed that is
on the floor (not elevated) requires a full range of motion. This full range of motion is lost when
humans sit in an unnatural state for a majority of their day, and makes aging an accelerated process. It
s known that sitting and rising from the floor is a basic functional process integrated into all human
movement patters, and when one loses the ability to perform this action, they lose their livelihood.
Performing this action requires proper posture, flexibility and muscle strength, which are all weakened
by being deskbound and the sedentary lifestyle. A Brazilian study created a sitting to rising test (SRT)
to judge whether or not functional capabilities, such as getting up off the floor with little

Linear Inequations
The unit we finished is called Cookies. The unit is about the system of inequalities, system of
equations, using constraints, graphing, finding the feasible region, soling for the profit/optimal line,
and finding the P.O.I. We began the unit learning about solving for ( x,y ) then subbing 0,0 to find out
if they were true or false and graphing them to find the feasible region. Then we learned how to solve
a system of equations using two different methods. In this unit we learned how to graph a system of
linear inequalities to find and use feasible region. The first step is to get variable y by itself if by
moving the variable x to the other side or if y is already alone leave it. After you solve for (y) move on
to solving for (x) and put in the (x,y) into the graph. To determine if your (x,y) are true or false you
must sub 0,0 for x and y in of your inequality. Once solve for inequalities given, you may find the
feasible region in which all inequalities are found. You can use the feasible region to find where the
inequalities would be true and where the optimal line (profit or cost line)give the max the last point
the optimal line touches and min the first point it touches. In this ... Show more content on

Harold And Maude Film Techniques
According to the film of Harold and Maude directed by Hal Ashby, there is a scene where both Harold
(a kid who thinks suicidal), along with his mother by the name Vivian are sitting down, not even
facing the same direction of each other. Vivian begins to ask back to back questions to Harold based
on the national computer dating services. During the scene, Harold looks straight ahead while his
mother is looking down at the form of questions she is constantly asking him. The whole time, Harold
does not say a word and his mother answers each question herself, as she would know her son s
answers. Harold slowly pulls out a handgun out of a case located on his lap. He then aims the gun
towards his mother and then aims the gun pointing his direction. Shortly after, he then pulls the
trigger, shooting himself in the head and falls back. After the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In the scene, they are wearing luxurious attire inside of an elegant setting. Harold was wearing a
dapper suit and tie, while the mother was wearing a nice dress with an appealing necklace and purse.
This would be the assumption they live a high class (ruling) lifestyle. Secondly, this scene shows the
ideology how negative Harold thinks of Vivian. Once he aimed the gun her way and kept it steady
with confidence, a viewer could easily tell Harold was fed up by his own mom. As most kids with
their parents, this shows an exaggeration of how they could feel when parents are annoying them
when they do not want to be bothered or dislike them as a whole. Lastly, an ideology that both works
and can be made out of the following scene is the dominant belief of Harold s attitude and emotions.
Things may not seem to be bad for a person if he or she lives at an upper level than majority of the
population. However, that does not mean being at a high peak of life defines a person s

Historical Macbeth Research Paper
William Shakespeare was one of the greatest authors in history. Shakespeare is a famous author
known for his tragedies. Macbeth is a play loosely written about historical people. The play Macbeth
was written between 1603 and 1606. Historical Macbeth who the play was written about, lived from
1005 1057. Shakespeare refers to If chance will have me king, why, chance may crown me. Macbeth
is saying whatever happens will happen. If fate wants Macbeth to be king, no matter what he does, he
will become king. Shakespeare s Macbeth and historical Macbeth have very little similarities.

traditional literary and artistic works, the clear contradiction is the prerequisite for the achievement of
good works. In Whale Rider , Caro is to seize this contradiction, thus creating a legendary classic.

Aristotle on Friendship Essay
Aristotle On Friendship
Philosophical Ethics December 6, 1995
Friendship is undoubtedly one of the most important elements in the books of Aristotle s ethical
principles. Aristotle takes the idea of friendship to a serious degree. He categorizes them into three
groups or types of friendships. This report will attempt to define each type of friendship as well as
identify the role of friendship in a society. Aristotle considers friendship to be a necessity to live. He
claims that no individual would chose to live without friends even if the individual had all of the other
good things in life. He also describes friendship as a virtue and as just. Given the above statements on
friendship, it is safe to say ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are quick to create and destroy friendships because their affection changes as fast as the things
that please them do.
Aristotle felt that this sort of pleasure changes rapidly. The young also have a tendency to fall in love,
thus creating an erotic friendship which is swayed by the feelings and based on pleasure. Finally, we
have what is considered the by Aristotle as the perfect friendship. This is called the friendship based
on goodness. This kind of friendship is between those that desire the good of their friends for their
friend s sake not their own. Each friend loves the other for what he is, not for a particular quality. This
type of friendship can last as long as the friends remain good. The friendship just might last forever.
Aristotle considers it a permanent friendship because in it are all of the attributes that friends ought to
possess. This friendship differs than the others mentioned because all the parties involved have each
other s qualities. There is no need to use the other for pleasure or utility. They are in it for each other.
As you can see, Aristotle held friendship in high regard. He considered it something to better the
society as well as the individual. His definitions of the types of friendships can make one relate to his
or her own friends. One can try to determine the type of friendships that one may have or wish to have
with his or her friends. It would certainly be a challenge in today s day

Why Is India A Call Center
Abstract: India is a hub to countless call centers helping people from around the around 24/7. In this

Strangely enough, I could not find any support on the negative effects of working night shifts on
mental health in a academic research paper on this matter. The paper by Suri Rizvi (2008) argues that
the main reasons by which employees getting stress in their routine life is non stop mobile calling,
duty to make interaction with costumes and complete the target witching the time. All this has a
double effect on the employee: it make him stressful and depressed.
According to this research based on 100 call center employees chosen from two different call centers:

numbers), the primary source of stress is linked to the nature of the job, i.e. spending the whole day on

Online Consumer Behaviors And Social Networking
ABSTRACT
With businesses seeking to seize the momentum of social media and social networking, technology
enabled social commerce has emerged to combine the power of online social networking with
shopping. This study examines an emerging area in E commerce, i.e., social commerce. Extending the
online consumer behavior typology, this study categorizes online consumer behaviors into three types:
transactional, informational, and social. While traditional E commerce supports the transactional and
informational aspects of online shopping, social commerce fulfils the social aspects of shopping, and
potentially enhances the informational aspect as well. This research examines the online shopper as a
prospective user of an emerging social commerce platform, the social shopping website, which are
sites designed specifically to support social interactions while online consumers shop. The study
augments the Technology Acceptance Model with constructs that enhance the specificity of the model
to the social shopping application of social commerce. The model was empirically tested and
supported. The results provide empirical evidence to support the importance of distinguishing the
social aspect of shopping from the information and transactional aspects, as well as the potential
advantage to using technology to promote social interactions on E commerce sites. Implications and
future research are discussed. Keywords: E commerce, internet, shopping, social networking

Journey
Malala s Journey
In Joseph Campbell s book, The Hero with a Thousand Faces. Campbell breaks down the journey of a
hero. A journey that per Campbell happens to every one of us, that once complete leaves us with a self
actualization of our life and the moments and decisions that either helped or hindered us at one point
in our lifetime. In The Hero with a Thousand Faces, the various examples of each stage are detailed as
part of the journey. Campbell uses religious figures and contemporary tales such as Alice in
Wonderland to provide us with the definition of the stages. Campbell s book also provides what the
purpose of each stage is are as well a brief description. Malala Yousafzai is a prime example of the
hero s journey. Her autobiography I Am Malala takes us on her hero s journey. A young Pakistani girl
with big aspirations and the adventure that drove her to speak up against her religions restrictions and
those that stood in her way to achieve what she wanted: an education. Malala s book takes the reader
on her journey from Mingora, Pakistan to England. I Am Malala, is a fantastic example of the Hero s
Journey described in Campbell s book. In the following paragraphs, I will offer a sequence of Malala s
journey as it relates to a Hero s Journey and the different stages a hero goes through.
Malala s book begins with stage four, Campbell refers to this stage as the Belly of the Whale. Stage
four is where the hero falls into the unknown zone and undergoes a rebirth. Stage four s purpose is to
give up the old self and be reborn. A new self can be born and continue the journey for the greater
good of the community. The book begins on October 9, 2012, when she was 15 years old. As she sits
in a school bus on the way to school, a Taliban gunman stops the bus and shoots her for publicly
defying the Taliban and stating that girls must have the right to receive an

Characteristics Of A Personality Type
A person s personality is his or her essence. It is what guides decisions, emotions, and even thoughts.
Some may wonder if it is possible to explore every nuance of such a complex part of a being, but there
are ways to determine what type of personality a person has, and then branch off into a more detailed
examination of that person specifically. Combined with other factors, such as personality disorders
and the environment that someone has grown up in, the Myers Briggs Type Indicator, or MBTI, test
(Enrichment 1) and analysis can determine an accurate portrayal of a personality. Created in 1943 by
Katherine Briggs and Isabel Briggs Myers, it is a system made up of four basic functions and sub
functions that combine to make a personality type. The mother and daughter team constructed it off of
Jung s theories (History 2). Based on this system, one of the most common personality types in the US
population is called an ESTJ, and one of the least common personality types is called an INFJ. There
are many differences and similarities between these two types. An ESTJ personality, overall, is
practical, fact based, and outgoing, whereas an INFJ personality is more private and makes decisions
based on feelings; however, both are organized people who make good leaders and are capable of
great success in roles that involve helping others.
Carl Jung was a Swiss psychologist who had many theories that still influence the scientific field
today. One of his more famous theories deals

Personal Narrative-The Bigger Than Big Slope
The Bigger Than Big Slope
My alarm went off that Sunday morning, playing that one J. Cole song that it always did, and for once,
just once, only for that day, I actually didn t hit that snooze button and woke up. From that last
February since, every month, every week, every day, and every hour, I d been patiently waiting and
waiting and waiting for this very day to come and it was finally here! I darted out of my room and
dashed out to my parents and sister s room and shook them awake. As they ever so slowly trudged out
of bed, I was already downstairs, all ready to go. After what seemed like hours, the whole family was
ready to go. We all hopped into the car drove out to this place near mosque where the ski bus picked

us fell onto the hard, slippery ice. Laughing and running, looking like a bunch of hooligans, we got to
the ski rentals. The line was long, so, one at a time, we sneakily cut through and got our skis and
heavy boots. With a click, we fit our boots into the skis and were all ready to go. Our gang waddled
out of the ski rentals with the skis on. What do you wanna start with? Let s go on the medium slope

Stare Decisis And Judicial Precedent
Stare decisis and Judicial Precedent
In the course of deciding cases, judges create legal rules. This generates a precedent, contained in law
reports that may be relied on in the future. The procedure by which judges follow decisions of
previous cases is regarded as the doctrine of judicial precedent. This doctrine, is based on the Latin
principle of stare decisis, stand by what has already being decided , stating that previously decided
cases of higher courts generate a binding precedent over lower courts. The doctrine of precedent
operates within the case law of the English legal system following the Court Hierarchy. As for judges
are expected to treat sufficiently similar cases, in law and fact, in the same way, following the same ...

This decision provided the foundation of the modern law of negligence and set a binding precedent
then followed by cases such as Robinson v Chief Constable of West Yorkshire Police decided by the
Court of Appeal. Binding precedent, a precedent that must be followed, is constituted by decisions on
legal principles, which within a judgement is regarded as the ratio decidendi. The obiter dicta, things
said by the way , constitutes the other part of a judgement, is mainly based on questions of fact and
therefore do not create a binding but a persuasive precedent, which judges can refer to but are not
required to do so. The case of R V Howe Bannister stated that duress is not an available defence in
murder. The obiter dicta of this case was followed in R V Gotts (1992) 2 AC 412 , which held that
such defence was equally not available for the offence of attempted murder .
Case law is based on authoritative premises that leaded to the creation of a court structure founded in
hierarchical principles. Therefore, the feature that determines the judicial practice of the doctrine of
precedence is the authoritarian nature of the court hierarchy , principle that established that higher
courts on the system have more authority than the inferior courts, being self imposing and should be
considered as commanding over lower courts, as for it provides a better interpretation and
understanding of the law. Accordingly, First

benefits and quality of disclosures during truth telling in transitional societies to interrogation,
precisely how this truth telling can be esteemed as rendering justice for GHRV when weighed against
human rights trials. Sikkink and Booth Walling vehemently oppose the impression that transitional

incorporation and sensible sequencing of exercises. Methodologies concentrating just on some

Justice, peace and democracy are not mutually exclusive objectives but rather mutually reinforcing
imperatives. Advancing all three in fragile post conflict settings requires strategic planning, careful
integration and sensible sequencing of activities. Approaches focusing only on one or another

Strengths and Weaknesses in Aetiology and Treatment of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) By using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) individuals
are able to be diagnosed and treated for many anxiety disorders, one of which is Obsessive
Compulsive Disorder (OCD). OCD is an anxiety disorder associated with invasive thoughts, impulses
and urges which can cause severe anxiety for an individual. These obsessive thoughts can then cause
the individual to act compulsively to prevent the stress and anxiety that is occuring (American
Psychological Association, 2013). According to CBT, OCD is caused by distorted cognitions and the
way different thoughts are being interpreted (Whittal, Thordarson McLean, 2005). Treatment for OCD
includes various CBT techniques including Psychoeducation, creating symptom hierarchies and then
combining it with the behavioural technique of Exposure Response Prevention (ERP). Both the
aetiology and the treatment of the disorder have strengths and weaknesses.
The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM V) explains the criteria for OCD.
OCD is considered to be an anxiety disorder in the DSM V. Obsessions are defined as experiencing
recurrent and persistent thoughts, impulses and urges, and can be invasive and unasked for which then
cause noticeable distress and anxiety for the individual. The individual will try to ignore the unwanted
thoughts and urges or they may try to neutralise them via

Essay On Wolf Of Wall Street Based On The Male Gaze
How are women objectified in The Wolf of Wall Street based on the Male Gaze ?
In this essay, I am going to be analysing how women are objectified in the 2013 Hollywood film, The
Wolf of Wall Street (directed by Martin Scorsese). I will be analysing how women are objectified
using a theory produced by feminist film critic Laura Mulvey. This theorist is a British professor of
film and media studies at Birkbeck in London. The theory of male gaze refers to the way visual arts;
such as film, TV and advertising are structured around a masculine audience and the way in which
women are put into situations where they are intended to be viewed in a masculine way, such as being
objects of desire and sex. The Wolf of Wall Street is a strong example of female ... Show more content

Prostitution could also be classed as self objectification as these women are not being forced to dress
sexually or work in the sex industry but in fact choose to do, sexually objectifying their selves. In a
journal article called Body Objectification, MTV, and Psychological Outcomes Among Female
Adolescents written by Shelly Grabe and Janet Shibley Hyde, the following quote is found;
Objectification theory posits that the consequences of sexual objectification involve the process of self
objectification. (Grabe and Hyde, 2009). An example of non sexual self objectification in this film
takes place in the office. Belfort and the remaining males of the office offer the female sales assistant
$10,000 to shave her hair off in front of everyone. This could be seen as low self objectification but to
make the matter worse, the female sales assistant agrees to use the $10,000 for breast implants, further
adding to the male gaze by objectifying herself, to further sexually objectify herself by making herself
more appealing to males by having larger

Punishment And Punishment
Punishment and the Death Penalty
The news media reports countless stories of crimes that have been committed throughout the country.
Some are so outrageous and almost comical, like a thief trying to steal a cash register from a drive thru
window at a fast food restaurant to other stories that make us seriously question the future of
humanity. I have often judged criminals and the crimes they are accused of committing even before
their guilt is proven. Some of the crimes reported are so vile that they elicit a visceral response within
me and I find myself thinking that they should just be put to death. A closer examination of
punishment and the death penalty made me question my own ethics which led to an unexpected
change in my beliefs regarding the morality of punishment and the death penalty.
I his book Contemporary Moral Issues, Diversity and Consensus, Edward Hinman points out that our
country, which has about 5 percent of the world s population, has 25 percent of prisoners (Hinman
134). This statistical data is quite sobering because while reading it in passing, one can deduce that our
society is full of criminals and that in itself is frightening. However, in closer examination I think it
proves that we are doing something wrong, that our approach to crime and punishment is failing. On a
more personal level, it caused me to conclude that my quick reaction to punishment and specifically
the death penalty exacerbates this problem. In conjunction, a failing criminal

Macleish And Marianne Moore s Poetry Similar
Poetry is interpreted in many different ways by many different types of people. Archibald MacLeish s
poem Ars Poetica is his expectation of poetry, and Poetry is Marianne Moore s thoughts of what
poetry should be. There are similarities to how both poets explain poetry to their readers, but what
they are saying is different. Poetry is clarify as what it should be to MacLeish and Moore in Ars
Poetica and Poetry, with some similarities and differences. In MacLeish s and Moore s poems, there
are similarities in the way each poet clarifies what they think poetry should be, both poet s use explain

He also says a poem should be silent, wordless, and motionless. This means that the poem shouldn t
have to be so much that it explains every detail, leaving no room for imagination, but yet, the poem
should leave the reader able to imagine for themselves what they think the poem means. MacLeish
says in his last lines that the poem should be so well written that the reader knows exactly what the
poem is, but not what it means. Marianne Moore clarifies poetry as something that should be original
and something that is genuine so that it becomes interesting to the reader. She states this through out
her poem when in the beginning she states that poems become unintelligible when they are derivative.
Then she ends her poem writing that it must be original, not repetitive to interest the reader. The views
and expectations that MacLeish and Moore have of poetry are somewhat similar because of how their
opinions cross. MacLeish thinks poetry should not tell the reader what it means, but a poem should be
so well written that the reader is able to know what the poem is about. Moore thinks that poetry should
be original so that it does not confuse a reader or leave the reader uninterested half way through a
poem. These two views cross because they both mean originality.

The Effects Of Terrorism On Terrorism And Terrorism
Effects of Terrorism
The history of terrorism is a history of well known and historically significant individuals, entities,
and incidents associated, whether rightly or wrongly, with terrorism, (History of Terrorism). The
history of terrorism is a long bloody road. One of the bloodiest of acts of terrorism in the early years,
was the reign of terror. In which, the Jacobin leader, Maximilien Robespierre, executed 40,000 people.
Newspapers coined the word Terrorism as a way of describing Robespierre and his followers actions
(History of Terrorism).
The Jacobins then gave themselves the honor of calling themselves Terrorists (History of Terrorism).
Which became the first use of the word. The word was first used to describe someone who takes
advantage of their power, but later evolved into the meaning it is today. Today terrorism simply
means: use of force or threats to demoralize, intimidate, and subjugate, esp. such use as a political
weapon or policy. (Webster s New World College Dictionary). Terrorism has dramatically increased
since the beginning. Nowadays, in some countries, it seems almost inescapable.
In countries like Iraq, terrorism is a day to day event. Their population is pretty much used to and, for
the most part, prepared for terrorist attacks whether domestic or international. Terrorism is evolving
constantly and as it does fear begins to grow larger and larger across the world. The fear of terrorism
stems from countless threats from groups like Al

The Phenomenon Of Stereotypes
The phenomenon of superheroes has been around for many years, and often features many examples
of strength, courage, bravery and power. Their popularity among society has led to many studies in
which academia examines the portrayals of these heroines and the impact that they have through
media on children and society today. Individuals argue that the superheroes lack an equal share of
gender representation and portrayal in texts and are often nonexistent altogether. However, others also
argue that there are exceptions and that constant advocacy and knowledge of gender misrepresentation
and stereotypes among media can account for change. These different arguments can be seen through
a number of pieces including, Sexed Up Starfire Doesn t Sit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Authors, publishers and other academia such as Michelle Lee and Carol A. Stabile, are two examples
of individuals who strongly advocate for the lack of female representation and the overpowering
gender roles among superheroes and heroines today. These women argue that the lessons and body
images portrayed in the phenomena of superheroes are disrespectful and degrading towards women.
Michelle Lee gives a specific example, referencing the reboot of character Starfire from the Teen Titan
series. Lee points out the differences between the old and revamped Starfire, while making reference
to a concern among a large majority of society the children watching and reading these texts. Lee goes
on to write about a discussion with her daughter, proving that children are very much aware of the
sexualization of these female heroines. When Lee asked her daughter about the new Starfire her
daughter was quick to comment on the differences, noting that she s not fighting anymore. And not
talking to anyone really. She s just almost naked and posing (Lee, 2011). As Lee continues on to
discuss the conversation between herself and her daughter, she notes that the old Starfire, respectfully
dressed and ready to spring into action was a much better superhero and that she s a great role model.
She tells people they can be good friends and super powerful and fight for good, (Lee, 2011). Lee s
article shows that children can understand complex ideas such as gender roles and inequalities and that
the portrayals of these female superheroes does not go unnoticed by the younger generations. This
notion goes to show that the messages of beauty and the body images in these texts can be decoded in
a number of different ways, some of which can teach children positive messages and some of which
can be negative. Lee s daughter is

In 1991, they selected 6,434 subjects aged 65 and older, all of which lived throughout the ten provinces of Canada; 4,615 were alive for the follow up study done in 1996. When the study began in 1991, all participants were cognitively normal, and filled out a questionnaire for Alzheimer s risk factors. Five years later, the remaining participants received a screening interview and a clinical examination when necessary. The follow up analysis yielded 194 Alzheimer s cases and 3,894 normal controls. The factors concluded to be significantly associated with increased risk of Alzheimer s were increasing age, fewer years of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Continuities In Pompeii On August 24th in 79 AD at approximately 1300 a cloud appeared over the Roman city of Pompeii. This was all the warning the residents had before the nearby volcano, Mount Vesuvius, erupted. Huge quantities of scalding hot ash, pumice and lava pebbles were thrown into the sky. This then cascaded down across an extensive area. Pompeii was buried under 14 to 17 feet of ash and pumice, and the nearby seacoast was drastically changed. Herculaneum was buried under more than 60 feet of mud and volcanic material. Some residents of Pompeii later returned to dig out their destroyed homes and salvage their valuables, but many treasures were left and then forgotten. Mexico Drug War The United States and Mexico share a land border that runs 1,989 miles, but the relationship between the two countries spreads well beyond the physical boundaries of land and water. In terms of legal and regulated trade, Mexico is the third largest trade partner for the United States, making up roughly 13% of all international commerce. However, Mexico would rank much higher in terms of U.S. trade partners if illegal drug trade were to be factored in. In the Department of Justice s 2009 report, it was estimated that Mexican drug cartels see a profit of $39 million, annually. Illegal drug trade has had an enormous impact on the security of the border and the formation of the relationship between the United States and Mexico. Illegal immigration, ... Some of those suggestions, such as legalizing drugs, were a bit more extreme than others, such as reducing demand by decriminalizing drugs and rerouting funds to finance treatment facilities. With such a wide variety of policies proposed, there may be a successful combination of policies proposed in Cartels at War but it will take more than one of the policies proposed and it will take a significant amount of time and cooperation of the Mexican State. Avoiding further militarization is a good step. As stated throughout Cartels at War militaries with long term exposure to counternarcotic operations face the risk of corruption and increased accidental use of force. Pulling military away from the border for some time may be a good first step (Kan 137). Pairing decreased militarization with strengthening of the Mexican State may be an excellent route to take, because this would allow long term reform and strengthening of the Mexican Government and justice system. Cartels have such a presence in the six border states, it will require an essentially revamped government to take control ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Musculoskeletal System Of The Human Body Not only are there damages to the immune system of the human body, but the musculoskeletal system is also at a very large risk for injury, even from the seat of a chair. German Researcher, T. Hettinger, analyzed statistics on sick leave and found that musculoskeletal problems among administrative workers were higher than in any other industrial sector, and similar to those in construction, metal industry and transport (Cranz, 2000, p. 98). This is saying that people who are working office jobs, which mainly comprise of sitting for extended periods of time compared to industrial jobs (heavy labor), consist of a similar amount of people taking sick days due to injuries to their muscular system. It was revealed in the 6 month follow up period that fall rates were nearly 4 fold higher in the American than in the Japanese residents (Lipsitz et al., 1994, p. 957). This shows the negative effect that sitting has on human behavior cross culturally by comparing the lifestyles of societies whose people are deskbound to ones that are not. When cultures such as the Japanese perform tasks such as squatting to use the toilet, or to stand up from a bed that is on the floor (not elevated) requires a full range of motion. This full range of motion is lost when humans sit in an unnatural state for a majority of their day, and makes aging an accelerated process. It s known that sitting and rising from the floor is a basic functional process integrated into all human movement patters, and when one loses the ability to perform this action, they lose their livelihood. Performing this action requires proper posture, flexibility and muscle strength, which are all weakened by being deskbound and the sedentary lifestyle. A Brazilian study created a sitting to rising test (SRT) to judge whether or not functional capabilities, such as getting up off the floor with little ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Linear Inequations The unit we finished is called Cookies. The unit is about the system of inequalities, system of equations, using constraints, graphing, finding the feasible region, soling for the profit/optimal line, and finding the P.O.I. We began the unit learning about solving for ( x,y ) then subbing 0,0 to find out if they were true or false and graphing them to find the feasible region. Then we learned how to solve a system of equations using two different methods. In this unit we learned how to graph a system of linear inequalities to find and use feasible region. The first step is to get variable y by itself if by moving the variable x to the other side or if y is already alone leave it. Finally, we have what is considered the by Aristotle as the perfect friendship. This is called the friendship based on goodness. This kind of friendship is between those that desire the good of their friends for their friend s sake not their own. Each friend loves the other for what he is, not for a particular quality. This type of friendship can last as long as the friends remain good. The friendship just might last forever. Aristotle considers it a permanent friendship because in it are all of the attributes that friends ought to possess. This friendship differs than the others mentioned because all the parties involved have each other s qualities. There is no need to use the other for pleasure or utility. They are in it for each other. As you can see, Aristotle held friendship in high regard. He considered it something to better the society as well as the individual. Some may wonder if it is possible to explore every nuance of such a complex part of a being, but there are ways to determine what type of personality a person has, and then branch off into a more detailed examination of that person specifically. Combined with other factors, such as personality disorders and the environment that someone has grown up in, the Myers Briggs Type Indicator, or MBTI, test (Enrichment 1) and analysis can determine an accurate portrayal of a personality. Created in 1943 by Katherine Briggs and Isabel Briggs Myers, it is a system made up of four basic functions and sub functions that combine to make a personality type. The obiter dicta, things said by the way , constitutes the other part of a judgement, is mainly based on questions of fact and therefore do not create a binding but a persuasive precedent, which judges can refer to but are not required to do so. OCD is an anxiety disorder associated with invasive thoughts, impulses and urges which can cause severe anxiety for an individual. These obsessive thoughts can then cause the individual to act compulsively to prevent the stress and anxiety that is occuring (American Psychological Association, 2013). • 33. Essay On Wolf Of Wall Street Based On The Male Gaze How are women objectified in The Wolf of Wall Street based on the Male Gaze ? In this essay, I am going to be analysing how women are objectified in the 2013 Hollywood film, The Wolf of Wall Street (directed by Martin Scorsese). I will be analysing how women are objectified using a theory produced by feminist film critic Laura Mulvey. This theorist is a British professor of film and media studies at Birkbeck in London. The theory of male gaze refers to the way visual arts; such as film, TV and advertising are structured around a masculine audience and the way in which women are put into situations where they are intended to be viewed in a masculine way, such as being objects of desire and sex. The Wolf of Wall Street is a strong example of female ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Prostitution could also be classed as self objectification as these women are not being forced to dress sexually or work in the sex industry but in fact choose to do, sexually objectifying their selves. In a journal article called Body Objectification, MTV, and Psychological Outcomes Among Female Adolescents written by Shelly Grabe and Janet Shibley Hyde, the following quote is found; Objectification theory posits that the consequences of sexual objectification involve the process of self objectification. (Grabe and Hyde, 2009). An example of non sexual self objectification in this film takes place in the office. Belfort and the remaining males of the office offer the female sales assistant $10,000 to shave her hair off in front of everyone. This could be seen as low self objectification but to make the matter worse, the female sales assistant agrees to use the $10,000 for breast implants, further adding to the male gaze by objectifying herself, to further sexually objectify herself by making herself more appealing to males by having larger ... • 35. Punishment And Punishment Punishment and the Death Penalty The news media reports countless stories of crimes that have been committed throughout the country. Some are so outrageous and almost comical, like a thief trying to steal a cash register from a drive thru window at a fast food restaurant to other stories that make us seriously question the future of humanity. I have often judged criminals and the crimes they are accused of committing even before their guilt is proven. Some of the crimes reported are so vile that they elicit a visceral response within me and I find myself thinking that they should just be put to death. A closer examination of punishment and the death penalty made me question my own ethics which led to an unexpected change in my beliefs regarding the morality of punishment and the death penalty. I his book Contemporary Moral Issues, Diversity and Consensus, Edward Hinman points out that our country, which has about 5 percent of the world s population, has 25 percent of prisoners (Hinman 134). This statistical data is quite sobering because while reading it in passing, one can deduce that our society is full of criminals and that in itself is frightening. However, in closer examination I think it proves that we are doing something wrong, that our approach to crime and punishment is failing. On a more personal level, it caused me to conclude that my quick reaction to punishment and specifically the death penalty exacerbates this problem. In conjunction, a failing criminal ... This means that the poem shouldn t have to be so much that it explains every detail, leaving no room for imagination, but yet, the poem should leave the reader able to imagine for themselves what they think the poem means. MacLeish says in his last lines that the poem should be so well written that the reader knows exactly what the poem is, but not what it means. Marianne Moore clarifies poetry as something that should be original and something that is genuine so that it becomes interesting to the reader. She states this through out her poem when in the beginning she states that poems become unintelligible when they are derivative. Then she ends her poem writing that it must be original, not repetitive to interest the reader. The views and expectations that MacLeish and Moore have of poetry are somewhat similar because of how their opinions cross. MacLeish thinks poetry should not tell the reader what it means, but a poem should be so well written that the reader is able to know what the poem is about. Moore thinks that poetry should be original so that it does not confuse a reader or leave the reader uninterested half way through a poem. These two views cross because they both mean originality. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. The Effects Of Terrorism On Terrorism And Terrorism Effects of Terrorism The history of terrorism is a history of well known and historically significant individuals, entities, and incidents associated, whether rightly or wrongly, with terrorism, (History of Terrorism). The history of terrorism is a long bloody road. One of the bloodiest of acts of terrorism in the early years, was the reign of terror. In which, the Jacobin leader, Maximilien Robespierre, executed 40,000 people. Newspapers coined the word Terrorism as a way of describing Robespierre and his followers actions (History of Terrorism). The Jacobins then gave themselves the honor of calling themselves Terrorists (History of Terrorism). Which became the first use of the word. The word was first used to describe someone who takes advantage of their power, but later evolved into the meaning it is today. Today terrorism simply means: use of force or threats to demoralize, intimidate, and subjugate, esp. such use as a political weapon or policy. (Webster s New World College Dictionary). Terrorism has dramatically increased since the beginning. Nowadays, in some countries, it seems almost inescapable. In countries like Iraq, terrorism is a day to day event. Their population is pretty much used to and, for the most part, prepared for terrorist attacks whether domestic or international. Terrorism is evolving constantly and as it does fear begins to grow larger and larger across the world. The fear of terrorism stems from countless threats from groups like Al ... • 38. The Phenomenon Of Stereotypes The phenomenon of superheroes has been around for many years, and often features many examples of strength, courage, bravery and power. Their popularity among society has led to many studies in which academia examines the portrayals of these heroines and the impact that they have through media on children and society today. Individuals argue that the superheroes lack an equal share of gender representation and portrayal in texts and are often nonexistent altogether. However, others also argue that there are exceptions and that constant advocacy and knowledge of gender misrepresentation and stereotypes among media can account for change. These different arguments can be seen through a number of pieces including, Sexed Up Starfire Doesn t Sit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Authors, publishers and other academia such as Michelle Lee and Carol A. Stabile, are two examples of individuals who strongly advocate for the lack of female representation and the overpowering gender roles among superheroes and heroines today. These women argue that the lessons and body images portrayed in the phenomena of superheroes are disrespectful and degrading towards women. Michelle Lee gives a specific example, referencing the reboot of character Starfire from the Teen Titan series. Lee points out the differences between the old and revamped Starfire, while making reference to a concern among a large majority of society the children watching and reading these texts. Lee goes on to write about a discussion with her daughter, proving that children are very much aware of the sexualization of these female heroines. When Lee asked her daughter about the new Starfire her daughter was quick to comment on the differences, noting that she s not fighting anymore. And not talking to anyone really. She s just almost naked and posing (Lee, 2011). As Lee continues on to discuss the conversation between herself and her daughter, she notes that the old Starfire, respectfully dressed and ready to spring into action was a much better superhero and that she s a great role model. She tells people they can be good friends and super powerful and fight for good, (Lee, 2011). Lee s article shows that children can understand complex ideas such as gender roles and inequalities and that the portrayals of these female superheroes does not go unnoticed by the younger generations. This notion goes to show that the messages of beauty and the body images in these texts can be decoded in a number of different ways, some of which can teach children positive messages and some of which can be negative.
