LESSON 2
Employing a Variety of Strategies for
Effective Interpersonal Communication
(Interview, Dialogue, Conversation)
ENGLISH 7
QUARTER 4
Communication
- It is the art of exchanging messages between two or
more people.
Communication Process
- Refers to the exchange of information or a message
between two or more people.
- For communication to succeed, both parties must be
able to exchange information and understand each
other.
- If the flow of information is blocked for some reasons,
then communication fails.
The Three Types of Communication
1.Verbal Communication
- Spoken language, voice tone, voice speed and
voice volume
2. Non-Verbal Communication
- Facial expression, touch, body movement, eye
contact and gesture
3. Written Communication
- Communicating through written words.
Interpersonal communication
- It is the process by which people exchange information
through verbal and non-verbal messages.
- Often includes face-to-face and online exchange of
messages which may be in a form of a certain tone of
voice, facial expressions, body language and gestures.
- It is important to learn better interpersonal
communication skills because it is the basis of both
personal and professional relationships. Knowing how to
communicate to a wide variety of people can greatly
improve one’s social interaction and career pathways.
Interpersonal skills also include the
ability to:
1.Listen and understand
2.Solve problems
3.Make decisions
4.Manage personal stress
Types of Interpersonal Communication
1.Conversation
2.Dialogue
3.Interview
1.Conversation
- A conversation is a type of dyadic communication
which is an informal talk between individuals.
- Its nature is less purposive, serious and intimate
than any other type of dyadic communication.
- This is a form of social entertainment.
- A good conversation is characterized by Eson et.al
(1979) as worthwhile, informal, flexible, relaxing
and interesting.
2. Dialogue
- A dialogue is a kind of communication that gives clear
meaning to the two parties involved in spite of some
obstacles.
- Through a dialogue, the most intimate and personal
relationship is formed. The truth itself of the speaker
is entrusted to one another with confidence. This is
an avenue for one to enhance humanness.
- An effective dialogue comes up with a good listening
habit collaborated with an appropriate response.
3. Interview
- An interview is a type of dyadic
communication that requires questions and
answers. Since this is intentional and purposive,
an accomplishment is always expected. Usually,
a person who knows much about a subject is
the one we interview.
