Among his many honors as President of the United States of America, John Fitzgerald Kennedy
remains the youngest man ever elected to the office of Chief Executive, and the youngest man to

As a youth, John F. Kennedy never sought a vocation in politics, but planned to become a
journalist. Joseph Kennedy, as head of the nation s Securities and Exchange Commission and a
U.S. Ambassador, coached his eldest son, Joe, to move on and increase his family s political
tradition. Joe and John Kennedy both enlisted in the armed forces during World War II, John
joining the U.S. Navy in 1941.
In 1943, while appointed to the South Pacific as the commander of a torpedo boat, John
Kennedy was nearly killed in combat when his PT 109 ship was rammed and sunk by an enemy
ship. The 26 year old Kennedy, though badly wounded, was able to bring his existing crew
through miles of harsh waters to shelter, an act which earned him the U.S. Navy and Marine
Corps Medal for Heroism. Kennedy s injuries seriously aggravated an old back injury, and
although what proved to be chronic pain, he returned to active duty and served until 1945. Kennedy
s older brother Joe, the successor apparent to the Kennedy s political tradition, did not endure the
war.
Once stateside, John Kennedy was able to momentarily chase a journalism career as a reporter for

The 1966 Czechoslovakian film Daisies was released two years before what was known as the
Prague Spring, where a reformist Czech leader loosened up restrictions in the Communist
dominated nation. The result was the 1968 invasion led by the Soviet Union that crushed this
little rebellion and firmly re established Soviet control of the nation (Encyclopaedia Britannica).
That puts a context on this film and gives some reason to the madness that the film portrays of
two young women who decide to spend the day being bad, which means doing things that are
against the grain of normal society. Nothing criminal happens with the girls (well, maybe some
trespassing and stealing some farmer s crops) but the point is that they want to do things that

Kindergarten Vocabulary: A Literature Review of Effective Instruction
Introduction
When students enter into the kindergarten classroom, they are greeted with a plethora of new
knowledge that they may have previously not had exposure, such as phonics, phonemic awareness,
fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary. Within these, vocabulary is often a major struggle for
many children in kindergarten. Young children are often exposed to vocabulary through
conversations, but not in a manner of teaching it explicitly. Through this literature review it was my
goal as a researcher to find primary studies that focused on high quality instruction in the field of
emergent vocabulary, especially in the kindergarten classroom. This topic came into fruition
through wanting to understand literacy practices in kindergarten classrooms, since the
implementation of Common Core State Standards. I began the research through developing a list of
key words and terms that were relevant to my chosen topic of kindergarten vocabulary instruction.
These terms included, but were not limited to kindergarten vocabulary instruction, effective
vocabulary instruction, vocabulary instruction, and kindergarten classroom practices. Using Eagle
search, Education Full Text, and Google Scholar I was able to find four pertinent studies using the
key term kindergarten vocabulary instruction . After reading the abstracts of these four studies, I

Christmas songs being sung from different countries this party sounds like a cultural one, which
