The Count Of Monte Cristo Abbe Faria
No matter what, all choices have a variety of different consequences. In the revenge novel The Count
Of Monte Cristo Abbe Faria makes a few critical choices whose consequences had a large impact on
Dantés. During the book a sailor from Marseille named Dantés gets wrongly convicted of helping
Napoleon. While he is in prison at the Château d F, he meets an. He also knows of a secret treasure.
During his time in prison, Abbe Faria s choices of showing Dantés how to escape, teaching Dantés of
secret treasure on the island of Monte Cristo, and allowing Dantés into his life all show a major effect
on Dantés. The first choice Abbe Faria made was to help Dantés to escape from the Château d f. This
choice affected the main character by allowing him

Stolen Art of the Holocaust
While death was the major tragedy of the Holocaust, all of the art stolen was definitely a dark spot.
Most people don t realize, but the art was taken from all Jews and many others by the Nazis. Some
pieces of art have been found, but most still remain lost. Many that have been discovered are in
museums and are not given to the true owners. There should be efforts spent on finding and recovering
the art stolen by the Nazis to return it to their rightful owners. Hitler would have his soldiers take the
art from the homes where the Jews lived when they took them away. Sometimes, if he wanted a
specific work of art, he would have his people steal it or take it and kill the people who owned it. He
would have his men steal all of the art and other artifacts from the homes of every person they took to
the concentration camps, as well as those they simply killed in their homes. Taking the art was his way
of taking everything from them, and a way that he could show his superiority over them. He took it
because it was something they had that he wanted. Very few works of art taken by Hitler have been
found, and many that are discovered reside in museums. Some have been discovered in museums or
galleries in Austria, while thousands still remain lost. Recently, a long lost Monet and other art
treasures stolen from Jews during the Holocaust have been discovered in the home of an 81 year old
German art collector, Julian states (Julian). Cornelius Gurlitt, the art

The Beauty Myth Naomi Wolf Summary
Kaleidoscope of Beauty In our world today, society and the dictionary have a different opinion on
what constitutes beauty. The dictionary defines beauty as the qualities in a person or a thing that give
pleasure to the senses or the mind ( Beauty ). Society has a more cruel definition of beauty. It puts
pressure on women who want to appear beautiful to everyone but themselves. Naomi Wolf, author of
The Beauty Myth, wrote, Many are ashamed to admit that such trivial concerns to do with physical
appearance, bodies, faces, hair, clothes matter so much (486). So instead of accepting the fact that
everybody has flaws, nowadays women will spend unbelievable amounts of money to try to rid
themselves of these flaws just to feel beautiful. The biggest perpetrators social ... Show more content

These images make little girls and women believe that if they don t look a certain way they need to
change everything about themselves until they look exactly like those models and celebrities. Society
today refuses to accept people who accept their flaws instead of telling the population that flaws make
a person essentially unique and different. The concept of beauty revolves around three main ideas:
Physical appearance, aging, and losing control of themselves. In The Beauty Myth, Wolf explains
Contemporary standards of feminine beauty have devolved to a point that can only be described as
anorexic, and America s young women are paying the price through a near epidemic of bulimia and
anorexia (486). Girls today do not feel comfortable in their own skin and try so hard to become
somebody else. She says, The beauty myth tells a story: the quality called beauty objectively and
universally exists. Women must want to embody it and men must want to possess women who
embody it (Wolf 488). Women should want to feel beautiful, but not for herself, but for the approval
from the male population. In this essay it talks about how women must also compete with other

Analysis Of Vincent Van Gogh s Bohemia Lies By The Sea
Vincent van Gogh s, Wheat Field with Cypresses, and Anselm Kiefer s, Bohemia Lies by the Sea, are
astonishing pieces of art located in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Both artists put a large amount of
thought and time in the creation of their work with the intentions of conveying specific understandings
to the viewers. Although they may appear extremely different at first glance, they are in fact very
similar, whether it is in process, intention, or in context. Both of these pieces are very significant to the
history and development of art throughout time and have inspired several artists across the world. In
late June or early July of 1889, Vincent van Gogh was in a period of frantic painting and shortly after

The composition was made in 1996, using Oil, emulsion, shellac, charcoal, and powdered paint on
burlap. It s dimensions are 75.25 inches in height and 221 inches in width (www.metmuseum.org). Its
enormous size alone will seize the viewer s attention. The landscape that the painting portrays is a vast
field bisected by a rutted road receding in dramatically deep perspective towards a high horizon line.
In Kiefer s painting, the field is covered with poppies conveyed in a manner persistent with its deep
perspective. The poppies are an emblem of military veterans, whose presence is perhaps suggested by
occasional drips of paint the color of dried blood. Also representing remembrance and forgetting, the
orange and pink poppy flowers embody the only bright colors in the painting. The rest of the piece is
made of analogous shades of green, blue, and gray. The piece grabs the viewer not by its aesthetic
beauty, but by the physicality of its extremely thick, unbalanced, jagged layers of paint and material
that project off the canvas in layers heavy both in meaning and in the actual density of their
application. In regards to the title; Bohemia Lies by the Sea, It references the poem by the Austrian
poet Ingeborg Bachmann, in which the writer details the yearning for utopian society while lamenting
its fallacy (www.theartstory.org). Anselm Kiefe does a wonderful with creating this piece. He . This

Strengths Of Strength And Resiliency
Strengths and Resiliencies
The state of Minnesota is one of the areas in the country with the most organization that work towards
social empowerment. These organizations are steadfast in helping the public deal with social issues
and other problems such as anxiety, depression that may result from many reasons such as poverty and
the hardships faced in life that may lead to an increase in the truancy rates in schools. This is one of
the strengths boasted by the county in an effort to make the counties within the state resilient to social
problems such as truancy and other social challenges that may result from poverty. The organizations
primary focus in towards building a resilient mindset among members of the community especially
young people in order to empower them with the ability to cope with challenges and for them to apply
various strategies that can change the various situations they go through.
Most public organization in the Minnesota apply a strategy that is aimed at promoting resilience in
children. The strategy is divided into three phases namely catch, challenge and change. These
strategies are applied in the community where periodical sensitization is done around the schools and

Vibration test of composite materials on the basis of measurement of dynamic properti
INTRODUCTION
On the basis of measurement of viscoelastic and dynamic properties, there are four important
parameter such as damping, relaxation, creep, and strain rate, which describes evidence of viscoelastic
behavior and can be calculated with the help of an experiment, but this paper describes the method of
test for the measurement of damping. In addition, the notation of complex modulus describes
conventionally for damping and dynamic stiffness of linear viscoelastic materials, where the methods
of vibration test are considered for measurement of complex moduli of composites. With the help of
this test of plates and beams to find dynamic elastic moduli also get evaluated.
In vibration test, notation for complex modulus is suitable for portrayal of dynamic behavior of linear
viscoelastic composites. The damping and stiffness which are the constituent part of the complex
modulus are belongs to the dynamic mechanical properties, which may be measured with the help of
experiments with vibration and wave propagation experiments ,and the measurement of the same is
considered for dynamic mechanical analysis.
However, there are many traps with respect to the different kind of techniques which must get
avoided. In example, there was a development of commercial dynamic mechanical analyzers for the
testing of small specimen of unreinforced low modulus polymers, and stiffness is generally

The Translator s Dilemma Of A Translator Essay
Ages ago, Cicero summed up the translator s dilemma in the following words:
If I render word for word, the result will sound uncouth and if compelled by necessity I alter anything
in the order or wording, I shall seem to have departed from the function of a translator (qtd. in
Bassnett 43). Translation in the first place, is transference of meaning from the Source Language (SL)
to the Target Language (TL). But what matters is not a translation of words from SL to TL, for exact
equivalence of words of the former is hard to get in the latter. Translation is both linguistic and
cultural activity and it is concerned with communication of meaning. It is not merely lexical
equivalent of words of one language to that of another, but much more. Since each word is charged
with memory, associations and literary echoes, it is difficult to find full equivalence of a SL word in
another word in TL. That is why, total or full translation is a myth.
The translator has to make a balance between maintaining close fidelity to the original and utter
freedom it. Sri Aurobindo is in favour of taking liberty with the original. He states that a translator is
not necessarily bound to the original he chooses; he can make his own poem out of it, if he likes, and
that is what is generally done (2). Translation is neither transliteration nor transcreation and it has to
and it has to guard against the danger of word for word literal translation as well as taking too much
liberty. In the name

Enron Was The Largest Bankruptcy Of America Essay
Enron had the largest bankruptcy in America s history and it happened in less than a year because of
scandals and manipulation Enron displayed with California s energy supply. A few years ago, Enron
was the world s 7th largest corporation, valued at 70 billion dollars. At that time, Enron s business
model was full of energy and power. Ken Lay and Jeff Skilling had raised Enron to stand on a culture
of greed, lies, and fraud, coupled with an unregulated accounting system, which caused Enron to go
down. Lies were being told by top management to the government, its employees and investors. There
was a rise in Enron s share price because of pyramid scheme; their strategy consisted of claiming so
much money to easily get away with their tricky ways. They deceived their investors so they could
keep investing their money in the company.
Kenneth Lay, former Chairman and CEO, and Jeff Skilling who was also a CEO and COO of Enron,

Introduction Of Natural Language Processing
INTRODUCTION TO NATURAL LANGUAGE PROCESSING
What is NLP?
Natural Language Processing can be defined as the use and ability of systems to process sentences in a
natural language such as English, instead of using a specialized artificial computer language such as
C, C++ etc. The systems used for NLP are a digital computer which is similarly resemble to
mainframe and personal computers. The digital computer systems in this fifth generation possesses
artificial intelligence technique and thus able to process natural languages. Natural language is a more
restricted subset of a human language; it cannot be thought of an actual language that possesses
ambiguities which computers could not sort out. Hence it is fair that Human Languages grant
aberration that natural language cannot grant. In a larger view; Natural Language Processing includes
signal processing or speech recognition, context reference issues and semantic analysis and
processing. Typical applications for Natural Language Processing include the following:
a) A good human computer interface that can translate from a natural language into a computer
language and vice versa. A natural language system can act as an interface to a database system. This
technology is very useful for the blind people; that with the help of speech recognition interact with
computers.
b) A basic necessity is for a translation program that could convert from one human vocal language to
another. This saves down the time for translation.

The Destruction Of The Caledonian Forest
Large sections of Scotland were home to the temperate rainforest called the Caledonian Forest. The
forests name was derived from the Romans who referred to Scotland as Caledonia , meaning wooded
heights in Latin (Woodland Restoration in Scotland. 2008 October 05). The dominant species of the
Caledonian Forests is the Scot pine. Unfortunately, climate changes over centuries have caused the
forest to diminish. The destruction of the forests for building materials, charcoal and other resources
required the people of the British Isle to use stone and move to other areas to find natural resources.
Today only 10% of the United Kingdom is forest (United Kingdom. 2014, March 07). The Caledonian
Forest is a unique ecosystem of the British Isles

A Summary On Charismatic Faith And Ministry
Summary of Charismatic Faith and Ministry
Charismatic Faith and Ministry is a comprehensive book of Charismatic Systematic Theology. The
first three quarters of the book were a brief dissection of systematic theology, much of what we have
studied in other classes, but in a more condensed form. The belief system expressed by Dr. Daniel
Thimell was no great departure from most conservative, reformed, evangelical orthodoxy except for
the addition of the Charismatic.
I believe the real meat of the book started with chapter eleven, Charismatic Ministry. Here Thimell
continues his systematic approach to the book, but now switches to the rest of the story, the work of
the Holy Spirit in our lives today. Thimell takes a very academic and cerebral approach to the gospel.
His lack of personal encounters and stories are evidence to that fact. However, this is a refreshing
approach that presents the gospel with just the basic facts and not many frills. I believe that Thimell s
purpose in writing this book was not to give an exhaustive book on Charismatic Theology, but to show
how Charismata fit within his systematic theology. Thimell showed that Charismata is not an appendix
to the Bible, but an integral and many times overlooked theology that interweaves through the whole
Bible, from Genesis to Revelation.
It seems that Dr. Thimell tries to relate to the reader on a more personal level with his connections
with Star Wars and the WWJD analogy. Both concepts are points well taken and

An examination of Thomas Hardys The Darkling Thrush Essay
An examination of Thomas Hardy s The Darkling Thrush
The Darkling Thrush quot; is a poem occasioned by the beginning of a new year and a new century. It
is formally precise, comprised of four octaves with each stanza containing two quatrains in hymn
measure. The movement of the first two stanzas is from observation of a winter landscape as
perceived by an individual speaker to a terrible vision of the death of an era that the landscape seems
to disclose. The action is in how the apprehension of this particular moment of seeing changes as the
emotional impact of the scene solidifies.

The figure of the sun as a quot;weakening eye quot; is a personification, a trope resonating off
Romantic associations such as Wordsworth s quot;eye of heaven quot; for the sun in quot;Resolution
and Independence quot;. It establishes the poem s time as at the closing of a particular day at the end
of a seasonal year. Whether the Romantic allusion to visionary powers and their ebbing is noted or
not, it is a suggestive adjective for a time when seeing is becoming more difficult due to a reduction of
light. As the poem moves further away from visual observation to emotional coloration, it replaces
concrete detail with pathetic fallacy, a rhetorical device by which we, in Santayana s words quot;dye
the world our own color quot; (Santayana, 159).

Like strings of broken lyres . . .
The next two lines also have a Romantic link to Coleridge s aeolian harp and the music it made at

The way that this works is exactly like any other syllabus, except each grade has a zero after the
normal grade, so if it was 93 for an A, it would be 930 for an A in this class. Also what I gathered from
this is that, the attendance policy is completely different than in high school. It states, no more than
three absences are allowed. For each absence beyond the third, your grade will be dropped one step.
For example, if you have been absent four times and have a B average, you will be assigned a B .if
you are not prepared for class, e.g. You have no rough draft on peer review day, or if you have been
consistently late for class, you will be counted absent. Also if you do not bring your books on a day
that it is necessary, you will be marked absent. The workload for Mrs. Browner s English 101 class
appears to be immense, but when you actually read the schedule on the syllabus, it is not a horrible
amount but it is decent. The only time consuming piece of work would be all of the editing and
portfolio and reflection work. Along side of this work is a good amount reading. In this class there is
not a final, all you need to turn in is your portfolio and reflections, which is only worth 50 of 1000
points. Unfortunately Mrs. Browner does not have any office hours

Elizabeth Barrett Browning Discontent
Discontent by Elizabeth Barrett Browning Explication The sonnet Discontent by Elizabeth Barrett
Browning pinpoints two separate types of unhappiness, discontent led by a need to show unhappiness
despite superficial subject matter, and a quiet pain that with time distances one from discontent and
leads to submission to the will of God and the world. Browning examines these differences throughout
the poem and emphasizes the meaninglessness of discontent and the distance brought by pain to show
why the human race gravitates toward the superficial, until time forces a calm upon it. The structure of
Discontent creates a dichotomy between the quiet of pain and submission to the will of the world and

Discontent is treated as a pest, an overblown complaint when the world doesn t fully embrace and
individual, leading them to run past it and find some other small disappointment. It buzzes along, until
time brings something worth complaining about, but that is instead a weight that sinks an individual
deeper into the sea. This true pain is treated as a concept that must be recognized as a God given gift
and punishment, as shown by the choice of transfix , both to pierce and to mesmerize, as it leads to
another fate, submission, which brings both acceptance about a world that we cannot change and an
end to the meaninglessness of discontent. This abstract discussion of the nature of unhappiness and the
acceptance of pain over the emptiness of discontent shows the sacrifices needed to become aware of
true human nature beyond the

Type A Personality
Today in class we discussed Type A Personality. People with Type A personality generally are
obsessed with being on time, competitive, impatient, and may be easily angered and hostile. These
traits may become dangerous as they can lead to heart problems because of the anger these people
possess. I believe that my personality corresponds to Type A. Although I normally am late for most
things, I get very paranoid when I am running late for something I am passionate about. For example,
I am never late for the movies. I always check the timings a few hours earlier and try to be at the
movie theater around 45 minutes earlier. Another piece of evidence that points to me being Type A is
that I am excessively competitive and cutthroat. I must do anything and everything to be the best. I
believe that there is no point in doing anything unless you want to be number one. My philosophy
(which I borrowed from Grey s Anatomy 2x22) is that being that second best is mediocre, and to settle
for mediocrity is a sign of self disrespect and a substandard work ethic. I refuse to be second best. ...

Compare And Contrast Odysseus And Harry Potter
Escaping from a man eating cyclops is no easy task, and neither is fighting the Dark Lord himself.
Odysseus is a very intelligent and motivated man who is the King of Ithaca. He fights in the Trojan
war but gets stuck sailing on the sea searching for his way home. Harry Potter is also a very intelligent
boy. At a very young age his parents were killed by Lord Voldemort. Voldemort attempted to kill
Harry too, but failed, making Harry the boy who lived. On Harry s 11th birthday, he received many
letters inviting him to attend Hogwarts, a School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. A man named Hagrid
comes to take him and that is where Harry s journey begins. They are pretty similar, but in some ways
they differ. Some similarities are that they use their wits and strengths to get their way through
problems, and they both have a desire to see their family. But they also differ in the way that their
goals are completely different, Odysseus wants to get home to Ithaca, and Harry wants to stay as far
away from his home, with the Dursleys as possible. So they use their brain as a problem solver, they
have a longing for their family, but they both want to go in a different direction.
First off, Odysseus and Harry both use their wits. In the story of Odysseus, he is stuck sailing on the
sea. He comes face to face with many dangerous and terrifying obstacles, and during every obstacle he
has to survive whilst using his knowledge. One big part of the story is when Odysseus and his men get

question: When does science go too far? Like Frankenstein s creation of life, Factory Farms push the
limits of science by attempting to control a set part of nature. Industrial Agriculture exploits nature for
profit which is much like Frankenstein s desire to create life from dead matter; where the desire to
gain is more important than the consequences. Farm animals are similar to the Creature since they are

Bilingualism And Aging
Healthy aging has become an important field of research of the 21st century. Today, people aged 85
and older are the fastest growing demographics in the United States (Lock Belza, 2017). Aging has
been associated with decline in cognitive performance such as executive functioning, episodic
memory, and attention (Memel, Bourassa, Woolverton, and Sbarra, 2016) as well decline in volume of
such brain structures as grey and white matters (Sowell, Peterson, Thompson, Welcome, Henkenius
Toga, 2003). Therefore, it is important to understand mechanisms and processes that influence decline
in cognitive abilities and brain structures with age to reduce its occurrence or at least to reduce the
speed of its decline (Ska et al., 2009). It is hypothesized that bilingualism promotes healthy cognitive
aging by enhancing the executive control functions, preserving grey matter volume, and contributing
to the cognitive reserve that can delay the onset of dementia in older age.
Bilingualism can be defined as speaking and understanding two languages (MacLeod, Fabiano Smith,
Boegner Pagé Fontolliet, 2012). The main empirical finding for the effect of bilingualism on cognition
is in the evidence for enhanced executive control in bilingual speakers (Bialystok, Craik, Green,
Gollan, 2009). Executive functions encompass cognitive processes involved in control and
management, such as planning, working memory, attention, problem solving, verbal reasoning,
inhibition, mental flexibility, task

Painted Door Women
Every character was created by the author for a purpose. As readers journey through Wharton s Tales
of Men and Ghosts short story collection, they might be inclined to overlook one of the most
important aspect: the minor characters, for they hold great significance. Amongst these minor
characters are female characters who play plot twisting roles. Through them, Wharton subtly breaches
the societal expectations of her time by inserting this concept that women too play an important role in
society. In addition, Wharton s characters refute the haunting words of Queen Victoria: Let women be
what God intended, a helpmate for a man, but with totally different duties and vocations (Trueman).
In The Bolted Door , the turning point of the story, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Mary Boyne lead readers through the world of Afterward , readers heard but one clear note, the
voice of Alida Stair, speaking on the lawn at Pangbourne (Wharton 140). Her iconic words that played
a pivotal role in the narrative began and ended the story. They revealed the story. The impact her
words possess, however, escalates knowing they came from the mouth of a woman. Unlike the girl on
the bench, Alida Stair could ve been male. Wharton intended readers to remember the words of a
woman to prove they can hold as great of significance as words that came from a man. Showing that a
woman held the answer is like declaring that women are the answer that society have long sought for.
The world didn t realize till long, long afterward women s treasure like potential that have since
played a massive part in the advancement of society (Wharton 163). Wharton represent one of the
many who successfully broke the pre existing mindset of women and proved to the world the
capabilities of women that have been long suppressed. Wharton conveyed women s significance in
society through even the most seemingly insignificant roles, emphasizing the hidden nature of women
s intellectual potential, which becomes one of the many things readers discover from her

The Political Economy Model Of Migration Policy
Gary Freeman suggests the gap between rhetoric and reality is best described in a political economic
account of migration policy. The political economy model of migration is modelled on the interests of
three sets of rational actors: voters, organised groups and state actors who attempts to maximize their
individual goals subject to state interests in different contexts (Freeman, 2002). The first is post
industrial change, which suggests stances on immigration policy are better viewed as interests defined
by social groups (Freeman, 2002: 84). The second is the spatial account, where the population
compete for finite resources in densely settled areas exacerbated by strong advocates of immigration
in these locations, such as businesses which could help explain the gap between rhetoric and action.
The third is the international approach, where state protectionism regulates the trade of goods and
people. If immigration is economically beneficial to the state, it will continue regardless of public
sentiments. As social welfare effects are key determinants of a countries migration policy , if
migration stimulates the economy, it will have a positive impact on society (Freeman, 2002: 88).
Liberal and International Norms
Liberal norms influence policy outcomes. Hollifield is concerned with the political interests that drive
migration policy in the face of liberalism. [S]overeignty requires a degree of territorial closure , which

Intellectual Property Protection and Enforcement Essay
Intellectual property (IP) is defined as property that is developed through an intellectual and creative
processes. Intellectual property falls under the category of property known as intangible rights, which
includes patents (inventions of processes, machines, manufactures, and compositions of matter),
copyrights (original artistic and literary works of), trademarks (commercial symbols), and trade
secrets ((product formulas, patterns, designs). Intellectual property rights has a significant value to
both individuals and businesses, providing in the case of large companies, over one half of their value

By contrast, the constitutional basis for federal trademark law is the Commerce Clause. (Yeh, p.1,
2012).
As a result, many laws, such as the Uniform Trade Act, the Misappropriation of a Trade Secret, the
Economic Espionage Act, the Copyright Act, the Federal Patent Statute, and Lanham Act just to
mention a few, have been enacted to provide legal protection against the unauthorized use, theft, and
other violations of the rights granted by those statutes to the intellectual property owners. For instance,
the Economic Espionage Act (EEA) was enacted by congress making it a federal crime to steal
another s trade secrets for own or another s benefit. In addition, the EEA was passed to address the
ease of stealing trade secrets through computer espionage and using the internet, and to penalize those
who commit these type of crimes. Additionally, these laws allow the IP owners to recover any profits
made by the offender, recover any damages, provide severe criminal penalties, fine organizations, and
impose prison terms and injunctions to all perpetrators as a remedy.
Furthermore, intellectual property rights gives their owners or holders monopoly rights as a protective
measure for a specific period of time. For example, in 1995, congress modified the U.S. patent law to
make invention patents valid for 20 years and design patents valid for 14

as a harmonic isolator, which offers zero impedance to the fundamental and infinite impedance to the

ridiculous late fees since retail stores such as Blockbuster and Hollywood rental were almost extinct.
By 2005, the company already had 4.2 million customers subscribed to the movie service

streaming service plan to customers that would make the service accessible at one s fingertips. The
convenience of watching movies went from receiving and sending DVD s by mail to viewing a large
selection of movies over the internet and television. According to Netflix.com, every year after
introducing TV shows and movies on the internet, this company advanced to a series of strategic
changes in a matter of no time including: (1) renting video games (2) offering service on most digital
technology devices (i.e., I Pads, Video game devices, Mobile phones) (3) launching in different
countries. In 2007, the company s financial growth increased by more than half due to domestic and
international sales. At this point, Thompson (2014) reported about the organization, Already solidly

Hunger Games Essay
When children are forced to grow up fast at a young age due to traumatic events, it shapes them into
fighters, when faced with life and death a person would do almost anything to assure survival. This is
greatly demonstrated in the book The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins when the main character
Katniss Everdeen s world is shifted upside down when her father dies and when she volunteers as
tribute for the Hunger Games. After her father s death the weight of the world was on Katniss s
shoulders, as she had to learn how to provide for, and keep her family alive. Her family consisted of

who meant the world to her. She inherited hunting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lastly, Katniss volunteered to take her sisters place in the hunger games when Prim s name was pulled
at the reaping. She could not stand the thought of her sister being thrown into such an awful situation
and she did the only thing she could to save her life. Fighting for others when they were too weak to
fight for themselves was another characteristic that Katniss demonstrated throughout the novel. This
was displayed in many cases. One way in which this was portrayed was when Katniss immediately
without giving a thought to the matter decided to enroll herself in the hunger games in order to ensure
Prim s safety as well as to save her the terror of the despicable games. With one sweep of my arm, I
push her behind me. I volunteer! I gasped. I volunteer as tribute! (Collins 22). This showed how
Katniss stood up for her sister and fought for her when no one else would, she saved Prim s life and
she risked it all for her. Katniss also took care of and risked much for Peeta when he was injured. As
soon as it was announced that two people could win the hunger games if they were from the same
district Katniss immediately made it her priority to find Peeta. She wanted to do everything in her
power to assure his survival. When Katniss did find Peeta he was badly injured and she spent much
time and effort in making him better. At one point she even risked her own life to obtain medicine that

Compare And Contrast Alternative And Alternative Medicine
Alternative medicine refers to the practices that are different from the conventional approach in the
field of medicine. Usually, the methods used in alternative medicine got its founding principles on the
philosophies that are opposite of those in modern day medicine. In addition, it also integrates the use
of spiritual practices, new approaches, or pre modern medical traditions in the healing process.
Alternative health care is a holistic way of caring for our body, mind and spirit. It is called alternative
because it offers a way of caring for our health that is not conventional or what we are used to in the
Western world. In the Western world caring for our health is done mostly by the administration of
medicines, many of which are synthetic, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But with the advent of these drugs we gradually forgot alternative health care in favor of conventional
medicine. One reason was that conventional medicine was fast and predictable. You do not have to
search for the herb and boil it and make a concoction out of it. You just go to the drugstore, present the
prescription your doctor gave you, receive the medicine from the pharmacist or his/her aide and pay
for it. Upon reaching home, you just take the medicine. It is so convenient.
But the recent experience of people taking conventional drugs is that they may lead to dependence on
these drugs and larger doses may be required upon subsequent intakes. Furthermore there are bad
effects in taking these drugs. These happen especially with antibiotic drugs. So people began to look
for alternative ways of healing, one that is not heavily dependent on synthetic drugs and one that heals
body, soul and spirit so that the person really become whole.
Some of the methods of alternative health care may be enumerated

Cursive Writing Is The Importance Of Writing
As the two positions posed above have stated, it is a matter of grave importance that school and its
systems should contemplate the importance of cursive handwriting and whether it should remain or be
forsaken as some method of unwarranted use. Whereas both sides have their own opinions, one must
consult each and formulate his or her own thought on the matter. For example, though cursive
handwriting may be found to be lacking use in today s technologically fueled society, the benefits of
cursive writing in a variety of situations over typing cannot be underestimated. Such fields and the
situations concern the modern problems of identity, beneficiary subjects, and strength versus ease.
First and foremost, in a society where information is of the utmost importance and is found to be
obtained through some method of identity, one must consult what typing, thumbprints, and digital
passwords have over the contained chaos that is each and every person s unique, handwritten
signature. Whereas the second article opposing the continuation of cursive handwriting said that A
survey was given to handwriting teachers at a 2012 conference hosted by a lead researcher. The survey
revealed that only 37% of the teachers wrote in cursive. If handwriting teachers don t value cursive,
then why should anyone? , the author of the article forgot to include several important factors that
come to mind. The conference itself was not stated, nor was the amount of attendees, let alone the
amount that were teachers. Such a fact if one will think can be easily misconstrued from a formulated
lie. Of course, another reason could be that the ones that surveyed the teachers selected a small, biased
margin that would otherwise have resulted in contradictory evidence, i.e. useless data. Secondly, It
used to be that people s written name was an important part of their identity attempts to convey the
idea that one does not use his or her or their signature anymore. However, A signature is no longer
needed for many legal documents and receipts would be found incorrect. In the personal experience of
the author, every receipt for an order or registration for school, testing or not, has needed a

Analysis Of Doctrine By Yoan Capote
Today, Wednesday, July 5, 2017 I took my first trip ever to the North Carolina Museum in Raleigh
North Carolina. I found myself in shock at how much I enjoyed myself looking and analysing all the
different types of art pieces that were present in the gallery. While walking around there were so many
different types of artwork that I found it hard to decide on which piece to shared about this week.
While walking and observing all the beauty that was being seen it amazed me about all the different
way an artist could express themselves. While looking and taking in every little detail of each artwork,
there was one particular piece of artwork that was very interested. It was called Doctrine by Yoan
Capote.
Yoan Capote was born in 1977 and is from Cuba. Yoan Capote creates artwork that poetically captures
personal experience and universal issues of power, alienation, isolation and restrictions. Capote works
symbolize themes of humanity, studying their interface, representation of physical or sensory
possibilities. His artwork Doctrine is a sculpture of a cast bronze chair and steel handcuffs. In his
artwork, Doctrine the chair is made of wax pulled out of shape by the addition of real hand cuffs, were
then cast into bronze. His art is a 3 D in, which made this piece appear more realistic than a painting.
As I stood there looking at a Capote sculpture of the chairs it was obvious that he really wanted

Bakken Pipeline Spill
Spill, baby, spill: As Sierra Club s Michael Brune puts it, It s not a question if a pipeline will
malfunction, but rather a question of when. And, though they spill less often than trains do, the
International Energy Agency found that pipelines spill much more in terms of volume three times as
much between 2004 and 2012. The Bakken Pipeline s route takes it through active farmland, forests,
and across the heartland s major rivers: The Big Sioux, the Missouri, and the Mississippi, some with
multiple crossings, though the US Fish and Wildlife Service claims that no critical habitat is
endangered. It also runs through sacred Native American lands (more on this below).
Enbridge Inc., a stakeholder in the Bakken pipeline, has a speckled track record on spills. In 2010, an
Enbridge pipeline spilled 1.2 million gallons of crude into the Kalamazoo River, one of the worst
inland spills in American history. Because the pipeline qualifies as a utility (despite being privately
owned and for profit), the Army Corps of Engineers was able to certify it without performing an
environmental impact statement, as all utilities projects qualify as minimal impact. These projects are

The True Nature Of Polymers
Since the beginning Polymers have been with us; they form the very basis of life. Until the middle of
the 20thcentury we were unaware but slowly and gradually we began to understand the true nature of
polymers. This understanding came with the development of plastics, which are materials truly mady
by man that are the ultimate tribute to man s creativity and ingenuity. The use of polymeric materials
has permeated in every facet of our lives. It is hard to visualize today s world with all its luxury and
comfort without man made polymeric materials.
Polymer materials in the form of solid plastics, fibers, elastomers, or foams. They may be hard or soft
or may be films, coatings, or adhesives. They can be made porous or nonporous or can melt with heat
or set with heat. The possibilities are almost endless and their applications are fascinating. Although
plastic materials in general are thermally unstable, ablation of some organic polymers occurs at
extremely high temperatures. Consequently, selected plastics are used to shield reentry vehicles from
the severe heat generated by air friction and to protect rocket motor parts from hot exhaust gases,
based on the concept known as ablation plastics. Also, there is a plastic armor that can stop a bullet,
even shell fragments. In addition to our food industrial sector , there are flexible plastics films that are

I was initially attracted to this piece because of how beautiful the horses are depicted. They re shown
with such great detail, despite it being a black figure painting, and represented as these huge, majestic
beings that are being harnessed by such a small human figure. Black figure paintings were still
common during this period of Ancient Greece but the style was dying out at the hands of the more
detailed red figure painting style. This is an amphora, which was a prize given out at panathenaic

I chose this bronze sculpture because it reminded me of Aphrodite of Knidos in that in both sculptures,
Aphrodite is depicted as naked but covering her genitalia with her hand. Women are normally shown

chose Aphrodite as the most beautiful goddess and given the apple she is shown holding as a prize.
Aphrodite then gives Paris Helen in return.

  • 4. Stolen Art of the Holocaust While death was the major tragedy of the Holocaust, all of the art stolen was definitely a dark spot. Most people don t realize, but the art was taken from all Jews and many others by the Nazis. Some pieces of art have been found, but most still remain lost. Many that have been discovered are in museums and are not given to the true owners. There should be efforts spent on finding and recovering the art stolen by the Nazis to return it to their rightful owners. Hitler would have his soldiers take the art from the homes where the Jews lived when they took them away. Sometimes, if he wanted a specific work of art, he would have his people steal it or take it and kill the people who owned it. He would have his men steal all of the art and other artifacts from the homes of every person they took to the concentration camps, as well as those they simply killed in their homes. Taking the art was his way of taking everything from them, and a way that he could show his superiority over them. He took it because it was something they had that he wanted. Very few works of art taken by Hitler have been found, and many that are discovered reside in museums. Some have been discovered in museums or galleries in Austria, while thousands still remain lost. Recently, a long lost Monet and other art treasures stolen from Jews during the Holocaust have been discovered in the home of an 81 year old German art collector, Julian states (Julian). • 5. The Beauty Myth Naomi Wolf Summary Kaleidoscope of Beauty In our world today, society and the dictionary have a different opinion on what constitutes beauty. The dictionary defines beauty as the qualities in a person or a thing that give pleasure to the senses or the mind ( Beauty ). Society has a more cruel definition of beauty. It puts pressure on women who want to appear beautiful to everyone but themselves. Naomi Wolf, author of The Beauty Myth, wrote, Many are ashamed to admit that such trivial concerns to do with physical appearance, bodies, faces, hair, clothes matter so much (486). So instead of accepting the fact that everybody has flaws, nowadays women will spend unbelievable amounts of money to try to rid themselves of these flaws just to feel beautiful. The biggest perpetrators social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These images make little girls and women believe that if they don t look a certain way they need to change everything about themselves until they look exactly like those models and celebrities. Society today refuses to accept people who accept their flaws instead of telling the population that flaws make a person essentially unique and different. The concept of beauty revolves around three main ideas: Physical appearance, aging, and losing control of themselves. In The Beauty Myth, Wolf explains Contemporary standards of feminine beauty have devolved to a point that can only be described as anorexic, and America s young women are paying the price through a near epidemic of bulimia and anorexia (486). Girls today do not feel comfortable in their own skin and try so hard to become somebody else. She says, The beauty myth tells a story: the quality called beauty objectively and universally exists. Women must want to embody it and men must want to possess women who embody it (Wolf 488). Women should want to feel beautiful, but not for herself, but for the approval from the male population. In this essay it talks about how women must also compete with other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of Vincent Van Gogh s Bohemia Lies By The Sea Vincent van Gogh s, Wheat Field with Cypresses, and Anselm Kiefer s, Bohemia Lies by the Sea, are astonishing pieces of art located in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Both artists put a large amount of thought and time in the creation of their work with the intentions of conveying specific understandings to the viewers. Although they may appear extremely different at first glance, they are in fact very similar, whether it is in process, intention, or in context. Its enormous size alone will seize the viewer s attention. The landscape that the painting portrays is a vast field bisected by a rutted road receding in dramatically deep perspective towards a high horizon line. In Kiefer s painting, the field is covered with poppies conveyed in a manner persistent with its deep perspective. The poppies are an emblem of military veterans, whose presence is perhaps suggested by occasional drips of paint the color of dried blood. Also representing remembrance and forgetting, the orange and pink poppy flowers embody the only bright colors in the painting. The rest of the piece is made of analogous shades of green, blue, and gray. The piece grabs the viewer not by its aesthetic beauty, but by the physicality of its extremely thick, unbalanced, jagged layers of paint and material that project off the canvas in layers heavy both in meaning and in the actual density of their application. In regards to the title; Bohemia Lies by the Sea, It references the poem by the Austrian poet Ingeborg Bachmann, in which the writer details the yearning for utopian society while lamenting its fallacy (www.theartstory.org). Vibration test of composite materials on the basis of measurement of dynamic properti INTRODUCTION On the basis of measurement of viscoelastic and dynamic properties, there are four important parameter such as damping, relaxation, creep, and strain rate, which describes evidence of viscoelastic behavior and can be calculated with the help of an experiment, but this paper describes the method of test for the measurement of damping. In addition, the notation of complex modulus describes conventionally for damping and dynamic stiffness of linear viscoelastic materials, where the methods of vibration test are considered for measurement of complex moduli of composites. With the help of this test of plates and beams to find dynamic elastic moduli also get evaluated. In vibration test, notation for complex modulus is suitable for portrayal of dynamic behavior of linear viscoelastic composites. The damping and stiffness which are the constituent part of the complex modulus are belongs to the dynamic mechanical properties, which may be measured with the help of experiments with vibration and wave propagation experiments ,and the measurement of the same is considered for dynamic mechanical analysis. • 10. The Translator s Dilemma Of A Translator Essay Ages ago, Cicero summed up the translator s dilemma in the following words: If I render word for word, the result will sound uncouth and if compelled by necessity I alter anything in the order or wording, I shall seem to have departed from the function of a translator (qtd. in Bassnett 43). Translation in the first place, is transference of meaning from the Source Language (SL) to the Target Language (TL). But what matters is not a translation of words from SL to TL, for exact equivalence of words of the former is hard to get in the latter. Translation is both linguistic and cultural activity and it is concerned with communication of meaning. It is not merely lexical equivalent of words of one language to that of another, but much more. Since each word is charged with memory, associations and literary echoes, it is difficult to find full equivalence of a SL word in another word in TL. That is why, total or full translation is a myth. The translator has to make a balance between maintaining close fidelity to the original and utter freedom it. Sri Aurobindo is in favour of taking liberty with the original. He states that a translator is not necessarily bound to the original he chooses; he can make his own poem out of it, if he likes, and that is what is generally done (2). Translation is neither transliteration nor transcreation and it has to and it has to guard against the danger of word for word literal translation as well as taking too much liberty. In the name ... Natural Language Processing can be defined as the use and ability of systems to process sentences in a natural language such as English, instead of using a specialized artificial computer language such as C, C++ etc. The systems used for NLP are a digital computer which is similarly resemble to mainframe and personal computers. The digital computer systems in this fifth generation possesses artificial intelligence technique and thus able to process natural languages. Natural language is a more restricted subset of a human language; it cannot be thought of an actual language that possesses ambiguities which computers could not sort out. Hence it is fair that Human Languages grant aberration that natural language cannot grant. In a larger view; Natural Language Processing includes signal processing or speech recognition, context reference issues and semantic analysis and processing. Typical applications for Natural Language Processing include the following: a) A good human computer interface that can translate from a natural language into a computer language and vice versa. A natural language system can act as an interface to a database system. This technology is very useful for the blind people; that with the help of speech recognition interact with computers. b) A basic necessity is for a translation program that could convert from one human vocal language to another. • 15. A Summary On Charismatic Faith And Ministry Summary of Charismatic Faith and Ministry Charismatic Faith and Ministry is a comprehensive book of Charismatic Systematic Theology. The first three quarters of the book were a brief dissection of systematic theology, much of what we have studied in other classes, but in a more condensed form. The belief system expressed by Dr. Daniel Thimell was no great departure from most conservative, reformed, evangelical orthodoxy except for the addition of the Charismatic. I believe the real meat of the book started with chapter eleven, Charismatic Ministry. Here Thimell continues his systematic approach to the book, but now switches to the rest of the story, the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives today. Thimell takes a very academic and cerebral approach to the gospel. His lack of personal encounters and stories are evidence to that fact. However, this is a refreshing approach that presents the gospel with just the basic facts and not many frills. I believe that Thimell s purpose in writing this book was not to give an exhaustive book on Charismatic Theology, but to show how Charismata fit within his systematic theology. Thimell showed that Charismata is not an appendix to the Bible, but an integral and many times overlooked theology that interweaves through the whole Bible, from Genesis to Revelation. It seems that Dr. Thimell tries to relate to the reader on a more personal level with his connections with Star Wars and the WWJD analogy. Both concepts are points well taken and ... The figure of the sun as a quot;weakening eye quot; is a personification, a trope resonating off Romantic associations such as Wordsworth s quot;eye of heaven quot; for the sun in quot;Resolution and Independence quot;. Whether the Romantic allusion to visionary powers and their ebbing is noted or not, it is a suggestive adjective for a time when seeing is becoming more difficult due to a reduction of light. As the poem moves further away from visual observation to emotional coloration, it replaces concrete detail with pathetic fallacy, a rhetorical device by which we, in Santayana s words quot;dye the world our own color quot; (Santayana, 159). Browning examines these differences throughout the poem and emphasizes the meaninglessness of discontent and the distance brought by pain to show why the human race gravitates toward the superficial, until time forces a calm upon it. This true pain is treated as a concept that must be recognized as a God given gift and punishment, as shown by the choice of transfix , both to pierce and to mesmerize, as it leads to another fate, submission, which brings both acceptance about a world that we cannot change and an end to the meaninglessness of discontent. • 25. Bilingualism And Aging Healthy aging has become an important field of research of the 21st century. Today, people aged 85 and older are the fastest growing demographics in the United States (Lock Belza, 2017). Aging has been associated with decline in cognitive performance such as executive functioning, episodic memory, and attention (Memel, Bourassa, Woolverton, and Sbarra, 2016) as well decline in volume of such brain structures as grey and white matters (Sowell, Peterson, Thompson, Welcome, Henkenius Toga, 2003). Therefore, it is important to understand mechanisms and processes that influence decline in cognitive abilities and brain structures with age to reduce its occurrence or at least to reduce the speed of its decline (Ska et al., 2009). It is hypothesized that bilingualism promotes healthy cognitive aging by enhancing the executive control functions, preserving grey matter volume, and contributing to the cognitive reserve that can delay the onset of dementia in older age. Bilingualism can be defined as speaking and understanding two languages (MacLeod, Fabiano Smith, Boegner Pagé Fontolliet, 2012). The main empirical finding for the effect of bilingualism on cognition is in the evidence for enhanced executive control in bilingual speakers (Bialystok, Craik, Green, Gollan, 2009). • 28. The Political Economy Model Of Migration Policy Gary Freeman suggests the gap between rhetoric and reality is best described in a political economic account of migration policy. The political economy model of migration is modelled on the interests of three sets of rational actors: voters, organised groups and state actors who attempts to maximize their individual goals subject to state interests in different contexts (Freeman, 2002). The first is post industrial change, which suggests stances on immigration policy are better viewed as interests defined by social groups (Freeman, 2002: 84). The second is the spatial account, where the population compete for finite resources in densely settled areas exacerbated by strong advocates of immigration in these locations, such as businesses which could help explain the gap between rhetoric and action. The third is the international approach, where state protectionism regulates the trade of goods and people. If immigration is economically beneficial to the state, it will continue regardless of public sentiments. As social welfare effects are key determinants of a countries migration policy , if migration stimulates the economy, it will have a positive impact on society (Freeman, 2002: 88). By contrast, the constitutional basis for federal trademark law is the Commerce Clause. (Yeh, p.1, 2012). As a result, many laws, such as the Uniform Trade Act, the Misappropriation of a Trade Secret, the Economic Espionage Act, the Copyright Act, the Federal Patent Statute, and Lanham Act just to mention a few, have been enacted to provide legal protection against the unauthorized use, theft, and other violations of the rights granted by those statutes to the intellectual property owners. For instance, the Economic Espionage Act (EEA) was enacted by congress making it a federal crime to steal another s trade secrets for own or another s benefit. In addition, the EEA was passed to address the ease of stealing trade secrets through computer espionage and using the internet, and to penalize those who commit these type of crimes. Additionally, these laws allow the IP owners to recover any profits made by the offender, recover any damages, provide severe criminal penalties, fine organizations, and impose prison terms and injunctions to all perpetrators as a remedy. Furthermore, intellectual property rights gives their owners or holders monopoly rights as a protective measure for a specific period of time. • 31. Netflix Is Taking The Online Entertainment Rental Market History Netflix is taking the online entertainment rental market by storm. Reed Hastings and March Randolph began a movie rental company that required members to subscribe to rental TV show series and movies by mail in 1997. This was the newest way to rent movies to avoid lengthy drives and ridiculous late fees since retail stores such as Blockbuster and Hollywood rental were almost extinct. By 2005, the company already had 4.2 million customers subscribed to the movie service (Netflix.com). In 2007, Netflix evolved to digital technology. The company incorporated a new streaming service plan to customers that would make the service accessible at one s fingertips. The convenience of watching movies went from receiving and sending DVD s by mail to viewing a large selection of movies over the internet and television. According to Netflix.com, every year after introducing TV shows and movies on the internet, this company advanced to a series of strategic changes in a matter of no time including: (1) renting video games (2) offering service on most digital technology devices (i.e., I Pads, Video game devices, Mobile phones) (3) launching in different countries. In 2007, the company s financial growth increased by more than half due to domestic and international sales. Hunger Games Essay When children are forced to grow up fast at a young age due to traumatic events, it shapes them into fighters, when faced with life and death a person would do almost anything to assure survival. This is greatly demonstrated in the book The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins when the main character Katniss Everdeen s world is shifted upside down when her father dies and when she volunteers as tribute for the Hunger Games. After her father s death the weight of the world was on Katniss s shoulders, as she had to learn how to provide for, and keep her family alive. One way in which this was portrayed was when Katniss immediately without giving a thought to the matter decided to enroll herself in the hunger games in order to ensure Prim s safety as well as to save her the terror of the despicable games. With one sweep of my arm, I push her behind me. I volunteer! I gasped. I volunteer as tribute! (Collins 22). Katniss also took care of and risked much for Peeta when he was injured. As soon as it was announced that two people could win the hunger games if they were from the same district Katniss immediately made it her priority to find Peeta. You do not have to search for the herb and boil it and make a concoction out of it. You just go to the drugstore, present the prescription your doctor gave you, receive the medicine from the pharmacist or his/her aide and pay for it. Upon reaching home, you just take the medicine. It is so convenient. But the recent experience of people taking conventional drugs is that they may lead to dependence on these drugs and larger doses may be required upon subsequent intakes. Furthermore there are bad effects in taking these drugs. These happen especially with antibiotic drugs. Cursive Writing Is The Importance Of Writing As the two positions posed above have stated, it is a matter of grave importance that school and its systems should contemplate the importance of cursive handwriting and whether it should remain or be forsaken as some method of unwarranted use. Whereas both sides have their own opinions, one must consult each and formulate his or her own thought on the matter. For example, though cursive handwriting may be found to be lacking use in today s technologically fueled society, the benefits of cursive writing in a variety of situations over typing cannot be underestimated. Such fields and the situations concern the modern problems of identity, beneficiary subjects, and strength versus ease. First and foremost, in a society where information is of the utmost importance and is found to be obtained through some method of identity, one must consult what typing, thumbprints, and digital passwords have over the contained chaos that is each and every person s unique, handwritten signature. Whereas the second article opposing the continuation of cursive handwriting said that A survey was given to handwriting teachers at a 2012 conference hosted by a lead researcher. The survey revealed that only 37% of the teachers wrote in cursive. If handwriting teachers don t value cursive, then why should anyone? , the author of the article forgot to include several important factors that come to mind. The conference itself was not stated, nor was the amount of attendees, let alone the amount that were teachers. Such a fact if one will think can be easily misconstrued from a formulated lie. Of course, another reason could be that the ones that surveyed the teachers selected a small, biased margin that would otherwise have resulted in contradictory evidence, i.e. useless data. Secondly, It used to be that people s written name was an important part of their identity attempts to convey the idea that one does not use his or her or their signature anymore. However, A signature is no longer needed for many legal documents and receipts would be found incorrect. In the personal experience of the author, every receipt for an order or registration for school, testing or not, has needed a handwritten signature to testify he is actually ... Yoan Capote was born in 1977 and is from Cuba. Yoan Capote creates artwork that poetically captures personal experience and universal issues of power, alienation, isolation and restrictions. Capote works symbolize themes of humanity, studying their interface, representation of physical or sensory possibilities. His artwork Doctrine is a sculpture of a cast bronze chair and steel handcuffs. In his artwork, Doctrine the chair is made of wax pulled out of shape by the addition of real hand cuffs, were then cast into bronze. And, though they spill less often than trains do, the International Energy Agency found that pipelines spill much more in terms of volume three times as much between 2004 and 2012. The Bakken Pipeline s route takes it through active farmland, forests, and across the heartland s major rivers: The Big Sioux, the Missouri, and the Mississippi, some with multiple crossings, though the US Fish and Wildlife Service claims that no critical habitat is endangered. It also runs through sacred Native American lands (more on this below). Enbridge Inc., a stakeholder in the Bakken pipeline, has a speckled track record on spills. In 2010, an Enbridge pipeline spilled 1.2 million gallons of crude into the Kalamazoo River, one of the worst inland spills in American history. Until the middle of the 20thcentury we were unaware but slowly and gradually we began to understand the true nature of polymers. This understanding came with the development of plastics, which are materials truly mady by man that are the ultimate tribute to man s creativity and ingenuity. The use of polymeric materials has permeated in every facet of our lives. It is hard to visualize today s world with all its luxury and comfort without man made polymeric materials. Polymer materials in the form of solid plastics, fibers, elastomers, or foams. They may be hard or soft or may be films, coatings, or adhesives. They can be made porous or nonporous or can melt with heat or set with heat. The possibilities are almost endless and their applications are fascinating. Although plastic materials in general are thermally unstable, ablation of some organic polymers occurs at extremely high temperatures. Consequently, selected plastics are used to shield reentry vehicles from the severe heat generated by air friction and to protect rocket motor parts from hot exhaust gases, based on the concept known as ablation plastics.
