Essay on My Development as a Writer
When writing a five paragraph essay, there are five steps one must fallow in order to attain
perfection, these steps include understanding the question, brainstorming, writing a rough copy,
revising, and creating a final draft. The first and most important step is understanding the topic. The
topic of the essayis what the essay will be about and if this is misunderstood, the whole essay will
be off course. The second step, brainstorming, will help organize thoughts and ideas so they flow
amiably. There are many different ways to brainstorm, some of the most helpful are making a web
of ideas, making a list of ideas, or creating a Venn diagram to compare and contrast the conviction.
All these ideas will be related to the topic at hand. For... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next step is revising and editing the rough draft. Revision helps the writer attain different
opinions and assessments about how the essay sounds, and flows, getting grammar and spelling
suggestions along the way. It is better to have many opinions rather than one because one person
might not catch a misspelled word that another would have. The more opinions a paper gets, the
better it may be. The final step when writing a five paragraph essay is creating a final draft. This is
the finished product and should include every aspect that an essay needs to get a point across.
Such aspects like a proper introduction, a clear thesis, three supporting paragraphs and a
conclusion that restates the thesis. Over the past few months, I have written many essays which
required me to research topics and build essays based on my opinions and thoughts, my favorite
being Generation Change and worst being children. The essay Generation Change is my best
work because of how I made the paper flow by using transitions and complex word choice. The
topic was about what I would name my generation and why. I thought it was easier to write about
this topic because I could use insight that I learned over the years to give examples such as the
introduction of global warming, the advancement of technology, the first African American
president and the change in culture. My worst essay in my opinion would be an essay comparing
and contrasting having children. I couldn t relate to

Exposure To Secondhand Smoke
Central idea Smoking is not only killing consumers but non smokers are being harmed at an
alarming rate. C.Statement of significance
Through extensive research and personal experience smoking is killing consumers and non
consumers. With effective solutions and implementation we can end the overwhelming number of
involuntary deaths caused by third parties. In addition invest the billions of dollars healthcare
spents on preventable diagnosis due to second hand smoke on something else.
1. I will present to you information on how to protect the health of non smokers. 2. 45 million
adults in the US are Tobacco smokers and 126 million are non smokers but are being exposed to
second hand smoke.

. Work place and public places becomes healthier, making workers more productive, efficeint and
reduce the cost of health insurance.
Transition: As American citizens we all have the right to freedom, liberty, and justice. If this
problem continues without curing the problem of involuntary illnesses casued by second hand
smoke our rights have been comprominsed.
III.Conclusion A. Americans lives are at stack and governement dollars have been compromised.
We are in need of government policies that condemn the use of tobacco in public places and
business going the extra mile to protect workers or consumer of possible illness through the use of
cublicles. B. Restate central idea Support the ban of tabacco use at work, schools, airports,
hospitals, bus stops, bars, and etc. Encourage policies that provide fines for those that break the law
and require businness to invest in creating smoking rooms /cubicles, designated for tobacco use. C.
Memorable statement Memorable statement: Tobacco use is very dangerous and even more
harmful to nonsmokers, its important that we come together and fight against public smoking at
schools, hospitals and workplace etc. We should be able to breath clean fresh air without having to
worry about dying from ciggarte smoke.

Vinyl Synthesis Essay
The patterns of printed vinyl are printed using a paper top coat put directly on a thin vinyl
surface and then covered with several layers of clear vinyl or urethane to create a protective
wear layer. This type of vinyl is a more affordable option compared to inlaid vinyl but it is less
durable. The patterns of inlaid vinyl floors are pass through a process that put tiny vinyl granules
on the backing, forcing them up to the wear surface. This creates heavier and extremely durable
floor. This is because vinyl is applied throughout the entire thickness of the flooring. Vinyl is
available in a few different styles, including sheet vinyl, solid vinyl tiles, and luxury vinyl tiles.
Sheet vinyl generally comes in 6 or 12 wide rolls. Solid vinyl

Haemolytic Anemia Research Paper
In my opinion, based on signs and symptoms this patient suffers from hemolytic anemia,
characterized by reduction in the number of circulating red blood cells, caused by accelerated
destruction and removal of these cells from the bloodstream before their normal lifespan is over.
When blood cells die, bone marrowproduces more bloodcells to replace them, however, in HA, the
bone marrow does not make red blood cells fast enough to meet the body s needs. Many diseases,
conditions, and factors can cause the body to destroy its red blood cells. This type of anemia can
be inherited, where parents passed the gen to the child (hemoglobindefects, enzyme defects,
membrane defects) or acquired, meaning it developed overtime (infectious diseases: hepatitis,
streptococcus; medications such as acetaminophen, antibiotics, ibuprofen, interferon alfa
procainamide). In some cases, the cause of hemolytic anemia can t be established.... Show more

Diagnose of HA usually begins with a review of the medical history and symptoms. The physical
exam, provides information regarding abdominal pain, which could indicate an enlarged liver or
spleen, as well as skin observation to establish a presence of yellow color. Physician can also
order diagnostic blood tests for bilirubin, to measure the level of red blood cells that has broken
down in the liver, hemoglobin test to measure the amount of red blood cells, liver function test, and

If the result is a major change to the work, then a new baseline may be agreed against which future
performance is then tracked. Over Expenditure. Should over expenditure threaten during the
implementation of the project the following measures may help restore the situation: Renegotiate
budget, work scope and specifications. Sell off excess inventory for cash injection. Eliminate
rework, wastage, theft, spoilage and scope creep. Optimise schedule/budget since an ambitious
schedule is usually expensive. Shun perfection and extra checks, and settle for good enough .
Ensure all charges are accurate, legitimate and properly authorised. Schedule Slippage. Should
unacceptable schedule slippage occur during project implementation, the following measures may
help keep the project on track: Renegotiate finish date, work scope, and/or performance standards.
Apply the minimum float rule whereby we first accelerate critical tasks. Redeploy resources to
focus effort on critical and near critical tasks. Undertake more work concurrently (fast tracking).
Work overtime and/or contract out work. Risk Management. Risk Management must be a
continuous activity throughout our project in order to prevent risks becoming issues. Thus, risks
will be a topic at every meeting during project implementation.

Differences And Similarities Between Stanford Prison...
There are many similarities between the behavior of the wardens in Stanford Prison Experiment
and the behavior of the soldiers at the prison in Abu Ghraib. I think the first and most obvious
comparison would be the blatant misuse and abuse of power. In both instances the figures in
authority were aware of their ability to make demands that their subordinates had to comply with,
and they took full advantage of it.
We see this expressed in emotional abuse that the prisoners had to endure. In both cases we forced
to perform demeaning tasks for no apparent reason. There were a number instances where the
prisoners were forced to be nude and were taunted. In the Stanford Prison Experiment the inmates
were teased about their genitals while in Abu

Promote Americans And Love For Our Country Analysis
What Can I Do to Promote Americans and Love for Our Country? Americanism is the attachment
or allegiance to the traditions, interests, or ideals of the United States, cited from the Merriam
Webster. It might seem like our country has a hard time coming together and bonding over
Americanism, especially since there are many shootings, as well as, riots going on in present day
United Statesof America. So the main question might be: how can we, the People of the United
States of America, unite and promote our love for our country.
United we stand, divided we fall, are a few words from our founding father, John Dickinson s song,
The Liberty Song. As proven through history, those six words describes how important unity is for
our country and

Tuck Everlasting the Tuck family comes upon a spring that has water that will make you

Angus Tuck does not like the idea of living forever. He argues that everything in life is part of a
wheel and now that he is can t die it is like being taken off the wheel. He believes, dying is part of
the wheel and you can t just pick out the parts of the wheel you don t like, in his case death. Also
being part of the wheel is good, and now that he is immortal, he feels that he is off the wheel. Jesse

Analysis Of All Quiet On The Western Front By Erich Remarque
Erich Remarque s All Quiet on the Western Front tells the story of a group of German soldiers
and their experience as soldiers during World War I. Paul Baumer, the main character, and his
friends, Stanislaus Katczinsky, Albert Kropp, and Mueller, whiteness extreme brutality and
bloodshed unfold around them, as the war begins to take its toll on each character one by one,
fighting in the trenches of WWI. Remarque tells the audience of the intensity of the war, as well as
the horrors that the characters experience fighting in the trenches. All Quiet on the Western Front
tells the story of WW1 as it really was. WWI would forever transform the way wars would be
fought, introducing new technology, such as aircraft, tanks, machine guns, and gas that would
cause much more casualties than wars before it. WWI would forever dash the ideas of warfare
romanticism by highlighting the bloodshed and horrid conditions that the soldiers would
experience. As the author of this book, Erich Remarque, was himself a soldier during WWI, he
provides the audience with a credible idea of how this war would be experienced through the eyes
of an infantryman, fighting and living in horrid conditions within the trenches of a WWI
battlefield. Remarque takes an anti war stance, as he critiques the past ideas of nationalism,
patriotism, and the romanticism surrounding the ideas of warfare. During the early 20th century,
many different nations expressed the ideas of nationalism, fighting for the defense

Philosophy And Philosophy Of Teaching
Philosophy of Teaching
By: Tambra Reynolds
Every August, a group of second graders enter my classroom. I teach them how to read and
write, tie their shoes, and by June, make sure they are prepared for third grade. In the middle of
last school year, I received a new student. She was a beautiful, bubbly little girl. I soon learned she
was terminally ill and one of her last wishes was to return to school. I was incredibly humbled her
parents were entrusting their daughter into my care and sharing her with me during what
would be her last days. In those months to follow, I learned how fragile life could be. For
Avery*, there was no next year; and the biggest days of her life were playing out right in front of
me. I slowed things down and didn t push quite so hard. I gave an extra 15 minutes for recess,
just because the weather was nice and the sky was pretty. I would sit on the rug and read three
stories in a row until my voice gave out, because the children were loving the performance. I
knew it was my job to be joyful. Children aren t supposed to die. We all know and believe this
truism. But the reality is, sometimes children do die. Avery s* passing profoundly impacted not
only my entire class, but me as an educator. Her passing taught me that every moment matters.
Whether a child has one year left in life, or many, the memories they make now will impact their
future.
This year, when I walked into my classroom on the first day of school, I could see her

Kim Campbell
The rise of Kim Campbell as Canada s first female Prime Minister is considered by many to be
that of a phenomenon. Webster s Dictionary describes a phenomenon as being something of
significant or rare, either fact or event. This can be shown by the rise of Kim Campbell from a
local Vancouver School Board Trustee, to becoming Prime Minister of Canada. Of course, this
success was dependent on her ability and ambition to succeed in what is still considered in
contemporary terms as being a male dominated area of profession. Politics, especially in Canada
and the United States has never been known for its equal availability between men and women, and
only in recent times has seen growth in the number of women who are elected and participate...

This failure was not due to inability, but instead due to her growing ambition to further her
career possibilities. When she was given the opportunity to succeed in a field of interest, she
jumped at the chance. Afterwards, she lectured at the University of British Columbia and
Vancouver Community College in the area of political science. Because she had only received
her Bachelor s degree, she was unable to receive tenure, and had to frequently change her places
of work, and ultimately became tired of the process. Campbell felt that it was not due to her
academics that she did not receive tenure, but instead that it was due to sexism. In 1980 she
entered the world of elected public office as a trustee of the Vancouver School Board, serving as
its Chairperson in 1983 and Vice Chairperson in 1984, while completing her law degree at the
University of British Columbia. After an early run for the Social Credit party in the provincial
election of 1983 she worked in the office of Premier Bill Bennett before running again and
winning in the 1986 provincial election. While a member of the British Columbian legislature, it
became apparent that she would not be able to further her career, as a MLA (Member of the
Legislative Assembly) backbencher. During this time the Progressive Conservatives were
preparing for the upcoming 1988 Federal Election. In 1988 she accepted an offer from the federal

Analysis Of Public Key Encryption
1 INTRODUCTION
Public key encryption is a powerful mechanism for ensuring the confidentiality of stored and
transmitted data. The traditional encryption is regarded as a method to share data to some
targeted person or device that the sender knows. This means the sender knows specifically which
user he wants to share with. However, in many systems the message sender will want to share
date with a group of people whose credentials or attributes accord to some access policy set by the
sender.[8][9]A new vision of encryption[10]was presented, where the sender can express how he
wants to share data in the encryption algorithm itself. The sender will give an attribute formula to
describe the users who can decrypt this data. Then only those whose ... Show more content on

Then, users use their attribute private key to decrypt the cipher text. In this case it is the users
attribute instead of the traditional public key that is matched with their private key.
CP ABE is extremely efficient and secure in the system in terms of the fine grained access control
of attributes. Theoretically, based on some previous researches, this paper will simply introduce the
algorithm scheme and how it working. Practically, I will compare some libraries which implement
CP ABE and try to implement a small program using these different libraries
2 BACKGROUND OF RESEARCH
In 2007, a new methodology for realizing Ciphertext Policy Attribute
Encryption (CP ABE)[3]under concrete and non interactive cryptographic assumptions in the
standard model came out and a basic framework of this model was constructed. This scheme,
referred as BSW scheme, uses threshold secret sharing to enforce the policy. The main drawback
of BSW scheme is the complexity and computing time in decryption phase, which requires may
expensive pairing and exponentiation operations. In 2009, there is a scheme of CP ABE
mentioned before was presented, which is efficient and provable secure.[5]This scheme can
express any access policy involving AND, OR and OF operator (threshold) by defining the privacy
policy through access tree instead of threshold secret sharing which

WAT Utilitarianism
OBESITY AND WAT METABOLISM
Overview of WAT It was previous thought that WAT is only an energy storage facility. Research
has also shown that WAT aids in the homeostasis of lipids and provides a buffering system
postprandial. Postprandial, adipocytes uptake fatty acids while suppressing the release of non
esterified fatty acids into circulation. This action becomes extremely important when buffering no
longer takes place due to storage limits of the adipocytes. The following elevated concentrations of
triglycerides, fatty acids and inappropriate location storage, including liver, skeletal muscle and
pancreatic beta cells leading to metabolic complications (Frayn 2002, Virtue and Vidal Puig 2008).
Endocrine organ Research has shown that WAT has endocrine capabilities, including, secreting a

1994). Leptin is secreted primarily by adipocytes, proportionally to fat cell mass, and contributes to
energy metabolism. Leptin will affect the energy balance by acting on the brain. Leptin can activate,
directly or indirectly, specific centers in the hypothalamus to decrease food intake, to increase any
energy expenditure, to influence the glucose, lipid metabolism, and alter neuroendocrine function
(Campfield, Smith et al. 1995). Leptin resistance, in regards to obesity, was coined due to the
increased leptin levels with no impact on regulating energy homeostasis. Leptin resistance causes
insulin resistance and the accumulation of lipids is a direct result of the reduction of lipid oxidation
in insulin sensitive organs; shown in preclinical and clinical experiments with obese rodents and
humans. However, the mechanisms that may lead to leptin resistance are still being researched

A vocational education, now called Career and Technical Education (CTE), is typically a non
traditional degree which prepares students to work in a specific trade, and can lead to a successful
career. Funk and Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia defines vocational education as, instruction in
skills necessary for persons who are preparing to enter the labor force or who need training or
retraining in the technology of their occupation ( Education, Vocational 1). Throughout the years,
vocational educationhas been considered a second best option for the second best kids (Watson 1).

I personally can attest to the fact that a four year college degree isn t for everyone and that non
traditional students have a better chance of succeeding in a vocational program. A study conducted
by the National Assessment of Vocational Education (NAVE) found that students with disabilities
attending vocational education programs had a successful chance of post school employment as
compared to students with disabilities attempting to complete a four year degree (Harvey 4).
Even though these students with learning disabilities want to fit in and go to a four year
university, it is a struggle. Having a learning disability myself, I can confirm that struggling
through college is not the way that it should be. A vocational school provides more hands on
training for a specific skill or trade than a regular text book and written tests, with the outcome of a

Impermeable, surficial materials such as massive bedrock and asphalt paving prevent infiltration so
moisture runs off or evaporates. Water infiltrates more readily into moist, unsaturated regolith than
into dry regolith. Dense, vegetative cover enhances infiltration because soils are typically moist
and porous, thus runoff is retarded. In forested areas, trees slow down the rate at which
precipitation is delivered to the land surface, and considerable moisture is temporarily stored in
humus and forest litter. On gentle, tree covered slopes and flat lying terrain, slow runoff enhances
infiltration. Runoff is accelerated on steep slopes and in areas with sparse vegetation, and
infiltration decreases accordingly. The rate at which water is delivered to the land surface has a
very important effect on infiltration. Short lived storms with intense rainfall result in lower
infiltration and increased runoff because the water piles up on the surface faster than it can
infiltrate. During periods of light to moderate rainfall, runoff is retarded and infiltration rises
accordingly. Special environmental conditions, such as snow melting above frozen ground, greatly
intensify runoff and reduce infiltration; conversely, snow melting above unfrozen ground can result
in a high percentage of the moisture infiltrating the soil. Thus regional and local climatic factors
are also important. 9. How does geology

Analysis Of Fences And Heart Of Darkness
August Wilson was a famous and influential playwright who wrote about the African American
experience and conflicts with the White world. Although he may be argued as one of the greatest
playwrights in America, I myself have only heard of his work once when my seventh grade
English class read Fences, a play about a man and his son dealing with dealing with racismwhile
also dealing with their own conflict when the son wants to follow in the steps of his father and
become a professional athlete. I had honestly forgotten all about that one play I read eight years
ago. Wilson s name was barely among the many playwrights studied in my latter years. This could
be because of the content of his plays. Much of Wilson s work examines the negative aspects of
being African Americanin America such as racism and poverty. When we read about African
American literature in school, we read about empowerment and pride. It is ironic how students
study White writers who tell stories like The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and Heart of
Darkness with mistreated African American characters, but barely study those same stories
written by Black authors, poets, and playwrights. Because African American literature was not
glorified in the past, specifically speaking of a time before the Harlem Renaissance, it may take
time for certain works of African descendants to be glorified at the same level as those of White
writers, especially if their peak wasn t during the Renaissance. Wilson s Century

Stephen King Rhetorical Analysis
Additionally, King builds his credibility with the utilization of ethos in his text in order to
convince them of his argument. By appealing to the readers ethics, they can see how trustworthy
King s words are and then can let themselves be persuaded by his matter of fact tone and
professionalism in writing. King is a realist, which means that he almost always represents
things as they really are, which profoundly helps establish his honest persona. Most of Stephen
King s writing represents more than one tenet, as his stories that he tells about his childhood and
road to recovery from drug addiction and alcoholism can be seen as not only pathos, but and
etho as well, as these stories help the readers to understand what kind of person he is, and how
he accomplished all of his success despite a couple of major roadblocks. This is why it can be
seen that King uses pathos most heavily in his writing, by telling vivid stories, etc. in order to
touch upon human emotion towards human experiences/traits, while also creating a strong
voice in his writing as well. The overlapping of these appeals help support the ethics and
sensibility of King s work. There are scores of times where it can be clearly identified where
ethos have been used in his writing. For example, King says I m a slow reader, but i usually get
through seventy or eighty books a year, mostly fiction. I don t read in order to study the craft; i
read because i like to read. Similarly, I don t read to study the art of fiction, but simply because I
like stories Every book you pick up has its own lesson or lessons, and quite often the bad books
have more to teach than the good ones (King, pg 145) This helps to support the idea that writing
is learned through reading, and also is learned through the mistakes of other writers. There is no
better way to learn than to look at a piece of writing that has some minor or even major flaws and
to analyze the piece to see what the issue is, and learn from their mistake to better your own
writing in the future. Another one of King s main arguments is that no writer is perfect. There are
always things that you can do to make your writing even better, no matter how small the adjustment
may be. It s a learning process

Race vs. Social Class Essay
Race vs. Social Class THESIS: Race differences in identity and social position were, and are,
more important than class differences in American society. Events in the nineteenth century made
it abundantly and irrefutably clear that race as a concept sui generis superseded social class as
the dominant mechanism of social division and stratification in North America. (Smedley 219)
For many decades people have been using race as a way to classify humans into different social
categories. Lower, Middle, and Upper classes were created to divide humans into appropriate
categories using their individual lifestyles, financial income, residence, and occupation. People
decided to ignore this classifying system and classify one another,... Show more content on

These conditions in turn lead to the way individuals perform at work. It also affects their views
of each other as well as those considered to be above or below them. So, racial discrimination
happens at the work level, as well as, the dividing of social classes. Racial discrimination
dominated over social classes creating an unfair way to divide people. In all areas of life,
Americans were persuaded that the major races black, Indian, Asian, and white could not and
should not live or work together and certainly not as equals. (Smedley 221) All other races were
homogenized, regardless of education, skills, language, religion, income, or place of origin, into
one simple category. Class separation was temporary and situational, as so many Americans were
quick to uncover. White Americans believed that anyone who succeeded in business, politics,
entertainment, or their professions automatically improved their class status and eliminated the
barriers to upper class institutions. Class barriers can be surpassed; race barriers can not. The
social class has two major approaches to the study in the scholarly literature. The first one is
ethnographic and descriptive, and the other is Marxism, which offers a range of perspectives.
Smedley describes Marxism as identifying social classes as groups standing in different
relationships to the mode of production and

Vietnam War was beginning to escalate. While based on a more serious book, Red Alert by Peter
George, it was soon transformed into a black comedy that parodied the absurdity of global nuclear
destruction and the mentality of the Cold War. While not as overtly anti war as his third film Paths

male instincts together, sex and the desire to kill. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ripper s paranoia about denying women his essence clarifies the connection between war and
sex. While Strangelove admits that women are essential to the survival of mankind, the
motivations of women are suspicious. Ripper s decision to attack Russia when he was
unprovoked is symbolic of his fear of being attacked. He has become paranoid that the same
infringement he performs on others might fall on him. The constant waiting creates a life of its
own within his mind and a sense of deep apprehension that the same people he has abused will
take their revenge. In his office, Ripper is usually shot in high contrast lighting. A lighting effect
that is shown largely in melodramas and tragedies to show, evil, fear and the unknown, all of
which the character embodies. The overbearing masculinity of most of the characters is balanced
by Mandrake and the Presidents, who are decidedly feminist when handling the conflicts and
attitudes about war. Mandrake plays a passive role when dealing with Ripper. He listens to
Rippers outrageous ideas, being careful not to upset him. He is also very reluctant to help fire
Rippers machine gun and tries desperately to convince him to recall the planes or hand over the

to the Russian Premier in a feminist manner to try and avoid confrontation. His approach to the

Shaving Profile Essay
The military is very strict on its policies for shaving in order to make its soldiers look more
presentable. In the military s view every soldier must be clean shaven with the exception of
moustaches, profiles, or in the Special Forces. The military thinks shaving is important because it
makes soldiers look more professional. In the military s view full beards and moustaches are
unprofessional and undisciplined because it makes soldiers look like they don t care about their
personal hygiene. However the army allows its soldiers to keep moustaches as long as the
moustache is kept within army regulations. The military also thinks that having a full beardand

Some other military s like the German military has no shaving regulation allowing their soldiers to
grow beards and moustaches as they please. This gives the German soldiers a more casual look
rather than a professional look. In my opinion soldiers should be allowed to grow out their beards
and moustaches as long and as thick as they want. The army is about discipline and control,
however like a teenage kid under his parents strict rules a soldier would want to break the rules in
order to feel freedom in their lives. By placing regulations on soldiers to constrict the soldiers
into doing what one person thinks is the most professional thing, helping a soldier be best
prepared to protect his country when in need? What about in a several day conflict against
enemy troops? Is a soldier undisciplined or unprofessional because he didn t shave while bullets
were flying over his head? Maybe not, but the army considers that soldier as undisciplined if that
soldier doesn t shave immediately after coming back from the field. In my eye s the army is
telling that soldier that they don t care if that soldiers friends died in that conflict, but the army
does care about how that soldier looks after the battle. I can see how having facial hair can make
some people look unprofessional

Joe Diffie Research Paper
Joe Diffie entered a crowded field of talented, good looking male country vocalists in early 1990;
despite the competition, the clever lyricist with what People called a booming tenor and wide
open vocal range achieved stardom in a very short time, racking up an unprecedented series of
chart successes. His appeal was due in great part to his ability to cross the boundary separating
traditional country vocal styles from the pop and rock influenced sound that has increasingly come
to dominate Nashvilles musical output. Diffie is also versatile, a quality developed over years of
diligent apprenticeship in several areas of the music business.
Born in Duncan, Oklahoma, in 1958, Diffie had musical ambitions from a tender age. He has an
early memory of his father listening to a record by country music giant George Jones and saying
that nobody else could sing like that. And I thought, I can, Diffie recalled. When I got a little
older, I was one of those guys who knew every dad gum song on the radio and would run people

Attitude sported up tempo numbers worthy of lively line dances, a modern take on hillbilly
boogie of the 1940s and 50s, and sensitive, evocative and totally believable ballads and story

Aristotle s Theories Of Friendships In Nicomachean Ethics...
Aristotle states that in order to be friends with someone there has to be a mutual goodwill. Does
this mean that friendships of goodness is the only true kind of friendship? Or can you be friends
with someone for utility or pleasure? Using Aristotle s theory on friendships in the book
Nicomachean Ethicscan help answer this question. Friendships of utility is when you only care
about being someones friend because you want to get something out of it. It is not a friendshipthat
deals with love, or caring about one another. Friendships of pleasure is a friendship where you
enjoy being around each other and when you enjoy the others company. You do not truly care about

He makes it sound like friends of pleasure and utility shouldn t even be considered a friendship.
To Aristotle the main part of a friendship is loving one another. A friendship of love and pleasure
doesn t involve loving one another. Aristotle believes that you should be friends with someone
based on who they are and that it shouldn t be out of pleasure or out of using someone. Also,
Aristotle states that in order to have a good friendship there has to be trust. If you are friends
with someone out of utility or pleasure then can you truly trust them? For me it is very hard to
trust others especially my friends. I feel like in order to fully trust someone you have to care
about them and have to love them. For example, it is very easy to trust your family because you
love them and know that it is mutual and that they want the best for you. The friends that I trust are
the ones that I know that care about me and that want the best for me. I have had friends in the past
that have not wanted the best for me, and when you try to trust someone that doesn t truly care

Impact Of Immigration Reform In The 1920s-1960s
The period of 1920 1970 represented a period of numerous competing immigration policies and a
major debate about whether or not to reform immigration. Eventually, the reformers won the debate
and the immigration reform that happened during the 1920s 1960s were consistent with American
identity. Specifically, the reframing Asians as model minorities, the immigration reform policies
that happened, and the allowance of Mexican immigration into the U.S shifted American identity,
from as an all white country to a multicultural society, from restrictive on immigration to expansive
on immigration and finally from a restrictive country to a more democratic country.
The immigration reform policies that happened during the 1920s 1960s shifted American identity
for several reasons. First, according to the article Strangers in Cold War America: The Modern
Presidency, Committee Barons and Postwar Immigration Politics by Daniel J Tiechnor, pro
immigration activists advocated that America no longer exclude Chinese immigrants and offer
them 100 visa slots. ( Tiechnor, 177). Therefore, America is perceived to be diverse in this manner
by no longer excluding Chinese. This action shifted American identity from an all white country to
a diverse country. Furthermore, the immigration reformers such as Truman wanted to reform
immigration policy to abide by the Black Civil Rights movement because it is important to
achieving world peace and it would be consistent with the vision of a democratic

O Pioneers
History 2112

Is Alexandra still considered a feminist, although Cather
positioned her in a male role throughout the novel O Pioneers?
Although Alexandra was depicted as a tall, strong girl, (p.10) which is typically viewed as
characteristics of a male, she was indeed a feminist in Willa Cather s novel O Pioneers! In the
introduction of the novel, an argument arises due to the differences of O Pioneers! in contrast to
some of Cather s other pieces as well as several other novels of that time period. Marilee
Lindemann references that law and custom in most (if not all) Western countries severely limited

At this point, Alexandra had spent numerous days and nights alone, those days when she only had
her little brother, Emil, to accompany her; however, he eventually went off to school and to pursue
his own career. As a result, Alexandra was left to confide in her neighbor Marie who didn t quite
understand her, herself, and her dreams.
Throughout Alexandra s childhood, she often dreamed of pleasures from a man, certainly, who
carried her, but he was like no man she knew... (p.112) and these fancies continued as she grew
older. She often slept in on Sunday mornings and during her lengthy sleep hours she accidentally
fancied about a man whom she knew nothing about. These dreams appeared during times when
she found herself the most fatigued from the unbearable work on the divide; we grow hard and
heavy here (p.69). Surprisingly, Alexandra became disappointed with herself after the epiphany
elapsed. She would rise hastily, angry with herself, and go down to the bath house... (p.112) to
cleanse her body. As incorporated in the novel, these feelings expressed more characteristics of
Alexandra s feminism as she daydreamed about a man in her life. However, little did she know that
her dreams would soon become a reality.

Social Status In The Great Gatsby
The American Dream varies for everyone, however, hard work, determination, and the desire to
achieve that dream are key factors that have played a role in the American Dream since it was
first thought of. Jay Gatsby in Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby, is a prime example of achieving
that American Dream because Gatsby worked hard and was driven as he moved up the hierarchy
from transitioning from poor to rich. However, there are many who assume that the American

American Dream. While it can be difficult in accomplishing such a task, with factors such as

In the case of Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby, there are some people that will claim Gatsby never
acquired his American Dream because he never ended up with Daisy in the end which was his
primary goal due to him ending up dead after losing Daisy to her husband since both Tom and
Daisy [smash] up things and creatures and then [retreat] back into their money or vast
carelessness (Fitzgerald 179). It is true that Gatsby didn t fully accomplish his American Dream
because he wasn t able to get Daisy all to himself, but it can t be denied that he did complete so
much in his pursuit. He gave it his all, working as hard as he could since he was young until he
reached a point in his life that he finally went after what he wanted, and even though he failed, he
would have got back up again and tried again. No one ever said that the American Dream was
going to be easy. If it was, no one would have to strive to complete their goals or feel that sense of

outperformed those of IB, and sell recommendations underperformed. Lin et al. (2005) examined
time patterns rather than performance. Concluding, IB analysts are significantly slower to

were holes within their analysis. Clarke et al. (2004) analyze abnormal returns for bull and bear
market periods for stocks with IB business near the time of recommendation issuance.
Additionally, a 250 day holding period was used for all recommended stock, with no regard for a

Becker, H. S. (2010). How to Find Out How to Do Qualitative Research. International Journal Of
Communication (19328036), 4545 553.
Background: In 2009 the National Science Foundation held a conference and issued a document
about qualitative methods what they are lacking. This article pointed out the shortcomings of that
report. The NSF went so far has to tell researches using qualitative methods to learn real science
defined as theoretically derived, testable hypotheses, with methods of data gathering in order to get
NSF grants. This would throw out case studies and surveys, which allow unique research insights
and are often the start of bigger ideas. Becker (2010) counters that good qualitative data is based
around interpreting data as you get it. When conducting research the researchers may not know
very much about their object of study and as they learn, it raises more questions, allowing
researcher to gather more data and better interpretations.
Commentary: This article focused on qualitative research, for both experimental and non
experimental data. Such as surveys, questionnaires, and case studies. This would be useful when
designing a qualitative study to know researchers may have to go back and re think their design
even in the data collection part of the study.

Eyewitness Testimony And Its Impact On The Outcome Of A Trial
How Accurate Are Eyewitness Testimonies?
Have you ever been a witness to a crime? Would you feel comfortable if prosecutors relied on your
eye witness testimony alone for a conviction? According to The Magic of the Mind , eyewitness
testimony which relies on the accuracy of human memory, has an enormous impact on the outcome
of a trial. Eyewitness testimony is a legal term. During an eyewitness testimony, the witness usually
goes into an account of the crime he or she has witnessed. This can include details of the crime or
identification of perpetrators. Eyewitness testimony is an important area of research in cognitive
psychology and human memory (simplypsychology.com). Eyewitness testimony can be affected by
many psychological factors such as:
Anxiety/ Stress
Reconstructive Memory
Weapon Focus
Leading Questions during trial
There is almost always a great deal of anxiety or stress associated with crimes of violence. There
was a study conducted that showed that people who saw a film of a violent attack, remembered
fewer of the 40 items of information about the event than a control group who saw a less
stressful version (Clifford and Scott, 1978). So does that mean the more stress a person is under,
the less likely that person will be able to recall key specifics about a crime he or she has
witnessed? However, there was a study by Yuille and Cutshall (1986) that contradicted the
importance of stress influencing eyewitness memory. The study showed the witnesses of a

Reflection About Gender Identity
1. Gender identity is one s personal experience of one s own gender. Gender identity can
correlate with assigned sex at birth, or can differ from it completely. Usually, People get their
identity depending on the society that they are surrounded by. Most of the times, sexual
orientation comes from society influences and learned behaviors. In my personal opinion, I got
my gender identity from my parents, since there has no other believe in my household other
than, if you are a male you are treaded as a male. In the Dominican Republic there are many
Taboos when it comes to homosexuality. This means that people try to cover and make their
kids think that it does not exist. It is difficult there to see two men holding hands walking on the
street or to hear about someone that is homosexual. Also religion plays the biggest role in this
topic. In my culture it is believed that God will punish people with sexual desire toward
someone of the same sex. My father used to tell me male chauvinist things like, men don t cry or
men don t feel any pain, and that is not true. The problem with these is that, imagine a child in
school crying for some reason, the other kids are going to call him name because they learned that
crying is not a characteristic of a man. This is a conduct learned through several generations, and it
is not changing any time soon. 2. There is not one person in the world that loves you more than

Henry David Thoreau Joys Of Simple Life
Henry David Thoreau waxed poetic about the joys of the simple life. He lauded those in poverty
for their humility, self reliance, and the bare bones life they live. He came up with his ideas
while conducting an experiment: he spent two years living in isolation on Walden pond,
connecting himself with nature and giving him time to ponder his ideals. That s all well and
good. The problem is, frankly I disagree with some of the ideas he came up with. In fact I am of
the opinion that some of them are outright problematic. Let s discuss them. First, Thoreau seems
to have put the poor on a pedestal. He says, The shadows of poverty and meanness gather around

I have a few problems with this. One, in these quotes and others he is basically saying that the
poor should be happy in their poverty, they have it so much better because they have it simple.
Oh, they are so humble, look at them accepting aid . This reeks of privilege. One of the things
that rub me the wrong way about the whole work is how Thoreau deals in extremes. He believes
that life is at its best when simple. I disagree in my opinion life is best experienced in a nuanced
fashion; shades of grey rather than black and white. Thoreau characterizes simplicity as the key
to happiness, but what would life be like if happiness was the sole emotion? PArt of what makes
life worth living is the varied experiences that come with the package. Yes, struggle is part of that
package but it just makes the indulgence all the richer. He makes his proposal based on
experiences (how else?) and was influenced by the time period, something to keep in mind. During
that time period industrialization was rising up. Sanitation was not a major concern and to be
affluent was to be a slave owner. Equality was not the norm. It s easy to see how one would

Experiment 3: The Gravimetric Determination of Calcium
Abstract:
The Gravimetric Determination of Calcium Lab utilized homogenous precipitation to determine the
percent Calcium (Ca) in an impure sample of Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3). Three samples of
0.3574g, 0.3500g and 0.3736g of an impure sample of Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3) were added to
three beakers, two of which were 250 ml and one which was 400 ml. These three samples were
reacted with many different substances. After the reaction, presented above, was completed, the
solution was promptly put into a vacuum filtration and then subsequently massed. After the solution
was massed, the Calcium (Ca) ions from the Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3) were transferred to the
calcium oxalate monohydrate, (CaC2O4 * H2O). After the Calcium (Ca) ions from the Calcium
Carbonate (CaCO3) were transferred to the calcium oxalate monohydrate, (CaC2O4 * H2O, the
percent composition of Calcium Oxide (Ca) was determined.

the organization from all areas of the value stream. Briefly, it is called lean as it uses less, or the
minimum of everything required to produce a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lean manufacturing requires machines which are reliable and efficient. Inventories can be reduced
when machine downtime is minimized.
Work processes across the value stream should also be emphasized in lean manufacturing. Processes
should be performed with a minimum of non value added activities in order to reduce waiting time,
queuing time, moving time, and other delays Besides this, standardization of work processes is
needed to facilitate efficient, safe work methods and eliminate wastes, while maintaining
quality.Itensures a consistent performance and creates a foundation for continuous improvement.
Nowadays, a product with high quality is a prerequisite for any manufacturer. Quality is a major
focus in lean manufacturing because poor quality management would result in many wastes such as
scraps and rejects. Appropriate quality management helps to control a manufacturing process, and
this reduces safety buffers and exposes quality issues. Reduction of safety buffers will eventually
lead to reduction of inventories.
Employees who are motivated and empowered are essential since people are the key element in
lean manufacturing. Japanese regard people as assets because they are the ones who are going to
solve problems and improve processes in production.
Another key area of lean manufacturing is layout which determines the arrangement of facilities in
a factory.

Sustainability In The Meat Industry
Sustainability is an issue the whole world is facing but in particular it is become a big problem in
the livestock industry. Greenhouse gases are the cause and in order to preserve the planet for future
generation s changes must be made. Methane is the greenhouse gas which produced by livestock.
Methane is approximately 30 times worse for the environment than carbon dioxide as it is a heat
trapping gas. If sustainabilityneeds the achieved in the Livestock industry than the issue of methane
must be taken care of sooner rather than later.
Sustainability in agriculture is sustain the world s population with sufficient food and textile while
still preserving the earth s resources for future generations. To achieve sustainability in livestock
production a sufficient amount of these products must be produced to satisfy the ever increasing
demands of the growing population while also reducing the amount of greenhouse gases produced.
As the demand for sustainable and ethically sourced food is becoming greater some changes need
to be made to animal welfare and education about the topic. ... Show more content on

Animals that have a ruminant (a stomach with regurgitated and practically digested food) are
the biggest contributes to these greenhouse gas emissions. For example cattle can produce up to 70
120kg of methane a year and most of this methane is caused by what they eat. Currently research is
being done to see the effects of adding seaweed in the cow s diet. By adding seaweed into 2% of
the cow s diet it is said to reduce methane produced by cows by up to 70%. By using seaweed cows
will also have the able to grow bigger and strong as they aren t wasting energy on releasing
methane. In order for this this to go ahead funding will need to be made to increase the access of
seaweed to help feed the 1.6 billion cows on

Hialeah Gardens Police Department Case Study
The Hialeah Gardens Police Department was established in 1948. Since then the organizational
chart has changed drastically. With budget issues, staff shortages and a growing city, the
organizational chart and department will continue to change. As of now the City of Hialeah
Gardens Police Department currently has 38 sworn personnel, 4 public service aids, 6 dispatchers
and 6 support staff members for a city the populates nearly 22, 257 residents. The above staff is
bonded by an unbroken line of authority extending from the Chief of Police through each level of
command to an individual employee of the Hialeah Gardens Police Department. The current
organization chart begins with the Chief of Police being the head executive officer in command...

The span of control will be better monitored and more accountability. The Patrol Lieutenant will
supervise the Patrol Sergeants and Specialized unit Sergeants. The GIU Lieutenant will supervise
the GIU Sergeant, as well as administrative Sergeant. The administrative Sergeant will supervise all
support services employees to list a few, Records, Property, and Communications. The strength of
my organizational chart is more accountability. Each position will oversee and supervise an
important aspect of the day to day operations. The span of control will be proper and the duties will
be evenly split amongst the command staff and first line staff. The chain of command has its
checks and balances and each position responds to a supervisor. The weakness of the current
organizational chart is that the Patrol Lieutenant basically oversees the entire department and
responds to the Captain. There are not much accountability and lacks standards.

The Importance Of British Literature
British literature has been a controversial subject for a very long time throughout history. The main
topics of its importance or there lack is one of the most significant debates in today s modern age.
American studies have to this day been about British literature, but is it reasonable that we should
study it? Not only is there a big debate about British literature being taught in America, but more
explicitly being taught in high school. Many literary scholars think that reasons of why or why not
coincide with the two. More scholars lean to the opinion that British literature should not be taught
in high school. Furthermore, educators justify their beliefs, but also give practical, logical, and
useful ideology that supports the theory... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Adams (2013) The age of chivalry is gone: that of sophisters, economists, and
calculators has succeeded; and the glory of Europe is extinguished forever . He said there for
himself that chivalry is no longer relevant, so why should high school student have to learn
about? This goes to prove why British literature should not be taught in high school because
chivalry is a huge component of it and chivalry is dead. In the words of Adams (2013) Chivalry
is best defined as a medieval knightly system, with its religious, moral, and social code . This
means that men should be kind noble and fair to everyone. It is, in reality, a set of moral rules
that one should follow. We hardly ever see any of this in today s society. It is hardly ever that
someone holds the door for another, or helping an elder across the street, or even walking
neighborhood dogs. These examples would be perfect for modern chivalry, but we just don t see it
in our modern world.
A Discussion on Chivalry When discussing medieval chivalry, the topic of modern chivalry
should never arise. Modern chivalry or their lack of is completely and utterly different than that of
medieval chivalry. Chivalry has changed and some may say have died out throughout the ages. It
is an entirely different world that we live in today than that of two thousand years ago. Why should
we discuss it in modern times, if there is no relation to the lack of contemporary

Taking a Look at Educational Psychology
This course has taught me many new things about teaching. I have gained knowledge about
topics such as moral education, expertise, decision making, and classroom management, just to
name a few. Through the reading and portfolio essays, my desire to teach has strengthened
throughout the semester. Because of this course, I now have a better understanding of the
educational and psychological needs my future students, as well as myself, will have and how
to meet them. The portfolio essays that I have completed throughout this course have taught me
several things. Each week, the essay reviewed and allowed me to think more in depth about the
content in the chapter. I was forced to think critically about each topic and even occasionally do
further research in order to write the essay. An example of this, and also one of my favorite
portfolio essays, was the essay from Chapter 7. I chose to write the portfolio essay on the
television show Sesame Street. I greatly enjoyed writing this essay, as it was very interesting to
watch an episode of Sesame Street while analyzing it for educational material. Writing this essay
opened my eyes to many educational opportunities outside of school that I can utilize in my
future classroom. The portfolio essay from Chapter 14 allowed me to ponder the relationship
between teacher and student. This is an area in which I have slight concern. I fear that as a teacher
I will be too nice and possibly overstep my boundaries or under estimate my

The Best Selling Garment Of All Time
Marked the best selling garment of all time , denim has been a key participant in the evolution of
popular culture (Weber 2006). Originally making its public debut appearance within the mining
sectors in the mid 1800s, denim has become a product of globalization, as it gained both attention
and wear by billions (Foreman 2015). As various styles have evolved from denim, jeans have
deemed consistency throughout popular culture movements, withstanding the test of time. Not only
has denim broken barriers of age, class, and race, but the way in which jeans have been altered is a
direct product of popular culture, carried out via youth subcultures.
Why study something as acquisitive as denim when examining theories of popular culture,
particularly when trends come and go? British media theorist and sociologist Dick Hebdige is
distinguished for his popular culture studies, as he is labeled as the primary popular culture
reference maker. His research via sociological analysis has paved the way for proceeding theorists
to further explore the complexity of popular culture movements. Denim, however, is unique in the
sense that the evolution of this single garment has disrupted orthodox societal structures not only in
its country of origin, but also globally. Its invention and circulation epitomize the exchange and
intersection of cultural studies, allure a wide audience, and exemplify both political and economic
societal shifts.
In order to understand how jeans have gained status as

  • 2. Essay on My Development as a Writer When writing a five paragraph essay, there are five steps one must fallow in order to attain perfection, these steps include understanding the question, brainstorming, writing a rough copy, revising, and creating a final draft. The first and most important step is understanding the topic. The topic of the essayis what the essay will be about and if this is misunderstood, the whole essay will be off course. The second step, brainstorming, will help organize thoughts and ideas so they flow amiably. There are many different ways to brainstorm, some of the most helpful are making a web of ideas, making a list of ideas, or creating a Venn diagram to compare and contrast the conviction. All these ideas will be related to the topic at hand. For... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The next step is revising and editing the rough draft. Revision helps the writer attain different opinions and assessments about how the essay sounds, and flows, getting grammar and spelling suggestions along the way. It is better to have many opinions rather than one because one person might not catch a misspelled word that another would have. The more opinions a paper gets, the better it may be. The final step when writing a five paragraph essay is creating a final draft. This is the finished product and should include every aspect that an essay needs to get a point across. Such aspects like a proper introduction, a clear thesis, three supporting paragraphs and a conclusion that restates the thesis. Over the past few months, I have written many essays which required me to research topics and build essays based on my opinions and thoughts, my favorite being Generation Change and worst being children. The essay Generation Change is my best work because of how I made the paper flow by using transitions and complex word choice. The topic was about what I would name my generation and why. I thought it was easier to write about this topic because I could use insight that I learned over the years to give examples such as the introduction of global warming, the advancement of technology, the first African American president and the change in culture. My worst essay in my opinion would be an essay comparing and contrasting having children. I couldn t relate to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Vinyl Synthesis Essay The patterns of printed vinyl are printed using a paper top coat put directly on a thin vinyl surface and then covered with several layers of clear vinyl or urethane to create a protective wear layer. This type of vinyl is a more affordable option compared to inlaid vinyl but it is less durable. The patterns of inlaid vinyl floors are pass through a process that put tiny vinyl granules on the backing, forcing them up to the wear surface. This creates heavier and extremely durable floor. This is because vinyl is applied throughout the entire thickness of the flooring. Vinyl is available in a few different styles, including sheet vinyl, solid vinyl tiles, and luxury vinyl tiles. • 5. Haemolytic Anemia Research Paper In my opinion, based on signs and symptoms this patient suffers from hemolytic anemia, characterized by reduction in the number of circulating red blood cells, caused by accelerated destruction and removal of these cells from the bloodstream before their normal lifespan is over. When blood cells die, bone marrowproduces more bloodcells to replace them, however, in HA, the bone marrow does not make red blood cells fast enough to meet the body s needs. Many diseases, conditions, and factors can cause the body to destroy its red blood cells. This type of anemia can be inherited, where parents passed the gen to the child (hemoglobindefects, enzyme defects, membrane defects) or acquired, meaning it developed overtime (infectious diseases: hepatitis, streptococcus; medications such as acetaminophen, antibiotics, ibuprofen, interferon alfa procainamide). There are many similarities between the behavior of the wardens in Stanford Prison Experiment and the behavior of the soldiers at the prison in Abu Ghraib. I think the first and most obvious comparison would be the blatant misuse and abuse of power. In both instances the figures in authority were aware of their ability to make demands that their subordinates had to comply with, and they took full advantage of it. We see this expressed in emotional abuse that the prisoners had to endure. In both cases we forced to perform demeaning tasks for no apparent reason. Analysis Of All Quiet On The Western Front By Erich Remarque Erich Remarque s All Quiet on the Western Front tells the story of a group of German soldiers and their experience as soldiers during World War I. Paul Baumer, the main character, and his friends, Stanislaus Katczinsky, Albert Kropp, and Mueller, whiteness extreme brutality and bloodshed unfold around them, as the war begins to take its toll on each character one by one, fighting in the trenches of WWI. Remarque tells the audience of the intensity of the war, as well as the horrors that the characters experience fighting in the trenches. All Quiet on the Western Front tells the story of WW1 as it really was. WWI would forever transform the way wars would be fought, introducing new technology, such as aircraft, tanks, machine guns, and gas that would cause much more casualties than wars before it. WWI would forever dash the ideas of warfare romanticism by highlighting the bloodshed and horrid conditions that the soldiers would experience. As the author of this book, Erich Remarque, was himself a soldier during WWI, he provides the audience with a credible idea of how this war would be experienced through the eyes of an infantryman, fighting and living in horrid conditions within the trenches of a WWI battlefield. Remarque takes an anti war stance, as he critiques the past ideas of nationalism, patriotism, and the romanticism surrounding the ideas of warfare. • 11. Philosophy And Philosophy Of Teaching Philosophy of Teaching By: Tambra Reynolds Every August, a group of second graders enter my classroom. I teach them how to read and write, tie their shoes, and by June, make sure they are prepared for third grade. In the middle of last school year, I received a new student. She was a beautiful, bubbly little girl. I soon learned she was terminally ill and one of her last wishes was to return to school. I was incredibly humbled her parents were entrusting their daughter into my care and sharing her with me during what would be her last days. In those months to follow, I learned how fragile life could be. For Avery*, there was no next year; and the biggest days of her life were playing out right in front of me. I slowed things down and didn t push quite so hard. I gave an extra 15 minutes for recess, just because the weather was nice and the sky was pretty. I would sit on the rug and read three stories in a row until my voice gave out, because the children were loving the performance. I knew it was my job to be joyful. Children aren t supposed to die. We all know and believe this truism. But the reality is, sometimes children do die. Avery s* passing profoundly impacted not only my entire class, but me as an educator. Her passing taught me that every moment matters. Whether a child has one year left in life, or many, the memories they make now will impact their future. Webster s Dictionary describes a phenomenon as being something of significant or rare, either fact or event. This can be shown by the rise of Kim Campbell from a local Vancouver School Board Trustee, to becoming Prime Minister of Canada. Of course, this success was dependent on her ability and ambition to succeed in what is still considered in contemporary terms as being a male dominated area of profession. Politics, especially in Canada and the United States has never been known for its equal availability between men and women, and only in recent times has seen growth in the number of women who are elected and participate... When she was given the opportunity to succeed in a field of interest, she jumped at the chance. Afterwards, she lectured at the University of British Columbia and Vancouver Community College in the area of political science. Because she had only received her Bachelor s degree, she was unable to receive tenure, and had to frequently change her places of work, and ultimately became tired of the process. Campbell felt that it was not due to her academics that she did not receive tenure, but instead that it was due to sexism. In 1980 she entered the world of elected public office as a trustee of the Vancouver School Board, serving as its Chairperson in 1983 and Vice Chairperson in 1984, while completing her law degree at the University of British Columbia. After an early run for the Social Credit party in the provincial election of 1983 she worked in the office of Premier Bill Bennett before running again and winning in the 1986 provincial election. While a member of the British Columbian legislature, it became apparent that she would not be able to further her career, as a MLA (Member of the Legislative Assembly) backbencher. • 13. Analysis Of Public Key Encryption 1 INTRODUCTION Public key encryption is a powerful mechanism for ensuring the confidentiality of stored and transmitted data. The traditional encryption is regarded as a method to share data to some targeted person or device that the sender knows. This means the sender knows specifically which user he wants to share with. However, in many systems the message sender will want to share date with a group of people whose credentials or attributes accord to some access policy set by the sender.[8][9]A new vision of encryption[10]was presented, where the sender can express how he wants to share data in the encryption algorithm itself. The sender will give an attribute formula to describe the users who can decrypt this data. Then only those whose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then, users use their attribute private key to decrypt the cipher text. In this case it is the users attribute instead of the traditional public key that is matched with their private key. CP ABE is extremely efficient and secure in the system in terms of the fine grained access control of attributes. Theoretically, based on some previous researches, this paper will simply introduce the algorithm scheme and how it working. Practically, I will compare some libraries which implement CP ABE and try to implement a small program using these different libraries 2 BACKGROUND OF RESEARCH In 2007, a new methodology for realizing Ciphertext Policy Attribute Encryption (CP ABE)[3]under concrete and non interactive cryptographic assumptions in the standard model came out and a basic framework of this model was constructed. This scheme, referred as BSW scheme, uses threshold secret sharing to enforce the policy. The main drawback of BSW scheme is the complexity and computing time in decryption phase, which requires may expensive pairing and exponentiation operations. In 2009, there is a scheme of CP ABE mentioned before was presented, which is efficient and provable secure.[5]This scheme can express any access policy involving AND, OR and OF operator (threshold) by defining the privacy policy through access tree instead of threshold secret sharing which ... • 16. WAT Utilitarianism OBESITY AND WAT METABOLISM Overview of WAT It was previous thought that WAT is only an energy storage facility. Research has also shown that WAT aids in the homeostasis of lipids and provides a buffering system postprandial. Postprandial, adipocytes uptake fatty acids while suppressing the release of non esterified fatty acids into circulation. This action becomes extremely important when buffering no longer takes place due to storage limits of the adipocytes. Impermeable, surficial materials such as massive bedrock and asphalt paving prevent infiltration so moisture runs off or evaporates. Water infiltrates more readily into moist, unsaturated regolith than into dry regolith. Dense, vegetative cover enhances infiltration because soils are typically moist and porous, thus runoff is retarded. In forested areas, trees slow down the rate at which precipitation is delivered to the land surface, and considerable moisture is temporarily stored in humus and forest litter. On gentle, tree covered slopes and flat lying terrain, slow runoff enhances infiltration. Runoff is accelerated on steep slopes and in areas with sparse vegetation, and infiltration decreases accordingly. The rate at which water is delivered to the land surface has a very important effect on infiltration. Short lived storms with intense rainfall result in lower infiltration and increased runoff because the water piles up on the surface faster than it can infiltrate. During periods of light to moderate rainfall, runoff is retarded and infiltration rises accordingly. Special environmental conditions, such as snow melting above frozen ground, greatly intensify runoff and reduce infiltration; conversely, snow melting above unfrozen ground can result in a high percentage of the moisture infiltrating the soil. Thus regional and local climatic factors are also important. 9. How does geology ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. Analysis Of Fences And Heart Of Darkness August Wilson was a famous and influential playwright who wrote about the African American experience and conflicts with the White world. Although he may be argued as one of the greatest playwrights in America, I myself have only heard of his work once when my seventh grade English class read Fences, a play about a man and his son dealing with dealing with racismwhile also dealing with their own conflict when the son wants to follow in the steps of his father and become a professional athlete. I had honestly forgotten all about that one play I read eight years ago. Wilson s name was barely among the many playwrights studied in my latter years. This could be because of the content of his plays. Much of Wilson s work examines the negative aspects of being African Americanin America such as racism and poverty. When we read about African American literature in school, we read about empowerment and pride. It is ironic how students study White writers who tell stories like The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and Heart of Darkness with mistreated African American characters, but barely study those same stories written by Black authors, poets, and playwrights. Because African American literature was not glorified in the past, specifically speaking of a time before the Harlem Renaissance, it may take time for certain works of African descendants to be glorified at the same level as those of White writers, especially if their peak wasn t during the Renaissance. • 20. Stephen King Rhetorical Analysis Additionally, King builds his credibility with the utilization of ethos in his text in order to convince them of his argument. By appealing to the readers ethics, they can see how trustworthy King s words are and then can let themselves be persuaded by his matter of fact tone and professionalism in writing. King is a realist, which means that he almost always represents things as they really are, which profoundly helps establish his honest persona. Most of Stephen King s writing represents more than one tenet, as his stories that he tells about his childhood and road to recovery from drug addiction and alcoholism can be seen as not only pathos, but and etho as well, as these stories help the readers to understand what kind of person he is, and how he accomplished all of his success despite a couple of major roadblocks. This is why it can be seen that King uses pathos most heavily in his writing, by telling vivid stories, etc. in order to touch upon human emotion towards human experiences/traits, while also creating a strong voice in his writing as well. The overlapping of these appeals help support the ethics and sensibility of King s work. There are scores of times where it can be clearly identified where ethos have been used in his writing. For example, King says I m a slow reader, but i usually get through seventy or eighty books a year, mostly fiction. I don t read in order to study the craft; i read because i like to read. Similarly, I don t read to study the art of fiction, but simply because I like stories Every book you pick up has its own lesson or lessons, and quite often the bad books have more to teach than the good ones (King, pg 145) This helps to support the idea that writing is learned through reading, and also is learned through the mistakes of other writers. There is no better way to learn than to look at a piece of writing that has some minor or even major flaws and to analyze the piece to see what the issue is, and learn from their mistake to better your own writing in the future. Another one of King s main arguments is that no writer is perfect. There are always things that you can do to make your writing even better, no matter how small the adjustment may be. It s a learning process ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Events in the nineteenth century made it abundantly and irrefutably clear that race as a concept sui generis superseded social class as the dominant mechanism of social division and stratification in North America. (Smedley 219) For many decades people have been using race as a way to classify humans into different social categories. Racial discrimination dominated over social classes creating an unfair way to divide people. In all areas of life, Americans were persuaded that the major races black, Indian, Asian, and white could not and should not live or work together and certainly not as equals. (Smedley 221) All other races were homogenized, regardless of education, skills, language, religion, income, or place of origin, into one simple category. Class separation was temporary and situational, as so many Americans were quick to uncover. White Americans believed that anyone who succeeded in business, politics, entertainment, or their professions automatically improved their class status and eliminated the barriers to upper class institutions. Class barriers can be surpassed; race barriers can not. The social class has two major approaches to the study in the scholarly literature. The first one is ethnographic and descriptive, and the other is Marxism, which offers a range of perspectives. • 22. Dr.Strangelove Film Analysis Essay example Introduction In 1964, Stanley Kubrick released Dr. Strangelove or: How I learned to stop worrying and love the bomb to both critical and commercial praise. The historical context surrounding the film s release was at the height of the Cold War, just over a year after the Cuban Missile Crisis as the Vietnam War was beginning to escalate. While based on a more serious book, Red Alert by Peter George, it was soon transformed into a black comedy that parodied the absurdity of global nuclear destruction and the mentality of the Cold War. While not as overtly anti war as his third film Paths of Glory, Kubrick still manages to show the ridiculousness of nuclear war while linking two basic male instincts together, sex and the desire to kill. ... While Strangelove admits that women are essential to the survival of mankind, the motivations of women are suspicious. Ripper s decision to attack Russia when he was unprovoked is symbolic of his fear of being attacked. He has become paranoid that the same infringement he performs on others might fall on him. The constant waiting creates a life of its own within his mind and a sense of deep apprehension that the same people he has abused will take their revenge. In his office, Ripper is usually shot in high contrast lighting. A lighting effect that is shown largely in melodramas and tragedies to show, evil, fear and the unknown, all of which the character embodies. The overbearing masculinity of most of the characters is balanced by Mandrake and the Presidents, who are decidedly feminist when handling the conflicts and attitudes about war. Mandrake plays a passive role when dealing with Ripper. He listens to Rippers outrageous ideas, being careful not to upset him. He is also very reluctant to help fire Rippers machine gun and tries desperately to convince him to recall the planes or hand over the code. The President tries every possible diplomatic solution to quell the military problem. He speaks to the Russian Premier in a feminist manner to try and avoid confrontation. His approach to the ... Joe Diffie Research Paper Joe Diffie entered a crowded field of talented, good looking male country vocalists in early 1990; despite the competition, the clever lyricist with what People called a booming tenor and wide open vocal range achieved stardom in a very short time, racking up an unprecedented series of chart successes. His appeal was due in great part to his ability to cross the boundary separating traditional country vocal styles from the pop and rock influenced sound that has increasingly come to dominate Nashvilles musical output. Diffie is also versatile, a quality developed over years of diligent apprenticeship in several areas of the music business. Impact Of Immigration Reform In The 1920s-1960s The period of 1920 1970 represented a period of numerous competing immigration policies and a major debate about whether or not to reform immigration. Eventually, the reformers won the debate and the immigration reform that happened during the 1920s 1960s were consistent with American identity. Specifically, the reframing Asians as model minorities, the immigration reform policies that happened, and the allowance of Mexican immigration into the U.S shifted American identity, from as an all white country to a multicultural society, from restrictive on immigration to expansive on immigration and finally from a restrictive country to a more democratic country. The immigration reform policies that happened during the 1920s 1960s shifted American identity for several reasons. First, according to the article Strangers in Cold War America: The Modern Presidency, Committee Barons and Postwar Immigration Politics by Daniel J Tiechnor, pro immigration activists advocated that America no longer exclude Chinese immigrants and offer them 100 visa slots. ( Tiechnor, 177). Therefore, America is perceived to be diverse in this manner by no longer excluding Chinese. This action shifted American identity from an all white country to a diverse country. The NSF went so far has to tell researches using qualitative methods to learn real science defined as theoretically derived, testable hypotheses, with methods of data gathering in order to get NSF grants. Different authors define it distinctively. Lean manufacturing is most frequently associated with the elimination of seven important wastes to ameliorate the effects of variability in supply, processing time or demand defined it as a philosophy of manufacturing that focuses on delivering the highest quality product on time and at the lowest cost. Worley (2004) defined it as the systematic removal of waste by all members of the organization from all areas of the value stream. Briefly, it is called lean as it uses less, or the minimum of everything required to produce a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lean manufacturing requires machines which are reliable and efficient. Inventories can be reduced when machine downtime is minimized. Work processes across the value stream should also be emphasized in lean manufacturing. Processes should be performed with a minimum of non value added activities in order to reduce waiting time, queuing time, moving time, and other delays Besides this, standardization of work processes is needed to facilitate efficient, safe work methods and eliminate wastes, while maintaining quality.Itensures a consistent performance and creates a foundation for continuous improvement. Nowadays, a product with high quality is a prerequisite for any manufacturer. Quality is a major focus in lean manufacturing because poor quality management would result in many wastes such as scraps and rejects. Appropriate quality management helps to control a manufacturing process, and this reduces safety buffers and exposes quality issues. Reduction of safety buffers will eventually lead to reduction of inventories. Employees who are motivated and empowered are essential since people are the key element in lean manufacturing. Japanese regard people as assets because they are the ones who are going to solve problems and improve processes in production. Another key area of lean manufacturing is layout which determines the arrangement of facilities in a factory. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Greenhouse gases are the cause and in order to preserve the planet for future generation s changes must be made. Methane is the greenhouse gas which produced by livestock. Methane is approximately 30 times worse for the environment than carbon dioxide as it is a heat trapping gas. If sustainabilityneeds the achieved in the Livestock industry than the issue of methane must be taken care of sooner rather than later. Sustainability in agriculture is sustain the world s population with sufficient food and textile while still preserving the earth s resources for future generations. To achieve sustainability in livestock production a sufficient amount of these products must be produced to satisfy the ever increasing demands of the growing population while also reducing the amount of greenhouse gases produced. Animals that have a ruminant (a stomach with regurgitated and practically digested food) are the biggest contributes to these greenhouse gas emissions. For example cattle can produce up to 70 120kg of methane a year and most of this methane is caused by what they eat. Currently research is being done to see the effects of adding seaweed in the cow s diet. By adding seaweed into 2% of the cow s diet it is said to reduce methane produced by cows by up to 70%. By using seaweed cows will also have the able to grow bigger and strong as they aren t wasting energy on releasing methane. In order for this this to go ahead funding will need to be made to increase the access of seaweed to help feed the 1.6 billion cows on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Hialeah Gardens Police Department Case Study The Hialeah Gardens Police Department was established in 1948. Since then the organizational chart has changed drastically. With budget issues, staff shortages and a growing city, the organizational chart and department will continue to change. As of now the City of Hialeah Gardens Police Department currently has 38 sworn personnel, 4 public service aids, 6 dispatchers and 6 support staff members for a city the populates nearly 22, 257 residents. The above staff is bonded by an unbroken line of authority extending from the Chief of Police through each level of command to an individual employee of the Hialeah Gardens Police Department. The span of control will be better monitored and more accountability. The Patrol Lieutenant will supervise the Patrol Sergeants and Specialized unit Sergeants. The GIU Lieutenant will supervise the GIU Sergeant, as well as administrative Sergeant. The administrative Sergeant will supervise all support services employees to list a few, Records, Property, and Communications. The strength of my organizational chart is more accountability. Each position will oversee and supervise an important aspect of the day to day operations. The span of control will be proper and the duties will be evenly split amongst the command staff and first line staff. The chain of command has its checks and balances and each position responds to a supervisor. The weakness of the current organizational chart is that the Patrol Lieutenant basically oversees the entire department and responds to the Captain. There are not much accountability and lacks standards. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Importance Of British Literature British literature has been a controversial subject for a very long time throughout history. The main topics of its importance or there lack is one of the most significant debates in today s modern age. American studies have to this day been about British literature, but is it reasonable that we should study it? Not only is there a big debate about British literature being taught in America, but more explicitly being taught in high school. Many literary scholars think that reasons of why or why not coincide with the two. More scholars lean to the opinion that British literature should not be taught in high school. Furthermore, educators justify their beliefs, but also give practical, logical, and useful ideology that supports the theory... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Adams (2013) The age of chivalry is gone: that of sophisters, economists, and calculators has succeeded; and the glory of Europe is extinguished forever . He said there for himself that chivalry is no longer relevant, so why should high school student have to learn about? This goes to prove why British literature should not be taught in high school because chivalry is a huge component of it and chivalry is dead. In the words of Adams (2013) Chivalry is best defined as a medieval knightly system, with its religious, moral, and social code . This means that men should be kind noble and fair to everyone. It is, in reality, a set of moral rules that one should follow. We hardly ever see any of this in today s society. It is hardly ever that someone holds the door for another, or helping an elder across the street, or even walking neighborhood dogs. These examples would be perfect for modern chivalry, but we just don t see it in our modern world. A Discussion on Chivalry When discussing medieval chivalry, the topic of modern chivalry should never arise. Modern chivalry or their lack of is completely and utterly different than that of medieval chivalry. Chivalry has changed and some may say have died out throughout the ages. It is an entirely different world that we live in today than that of two thousand years ago. Why should we discuss it in modern times, if there is no relation to the lack of contemporary ... • 46. Taking a Look at Educational Psychology This course has taught me many new things about teaching. I have gained knowledge about topics such as moral education, expertise, decision making, and classroom management, just to name a few. Through the reading and portfolio essays, my desire to teach has strengthened throughout the semester. Because of this course, I now have a better understanding of the educational and psychological needs my future students, as well as myself, will have and how to meet them. The portfolio essays that I have completed throughout this course have taught me several things. Each week, the essay reviewed and allowed me to think more in depth about the content in the chapter. I was forced to think critically about each topic and even occasionally do further research in order to write the essay. An example of this, and also one of my favorite portfolio essays, was the essay from Chapter 7. I chose to write the portfolio essay on the television show Sesame Street. I greatly enjoyed writing this essay, as it was very interesting to watch an episode of Sesame Street while analyzing it for educational material. Writing this essay opened my eyes to many educational opportunities outside of school that I can utilize in my future classroom. The portfolio essay from Chapter 14 allowed me to ponder the relationship between teacher and student. This is an area in which I have slight concern. I fear that as a teacher I will be too nice and possibly overstep my boundaries or under estimate my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. The Best Selling Garment Of All Time Marked the best selling garment of all time , denim has been a key participant in the evolution of popular culture (Weber 2006). Originally making its public debut appearance within the mining sectors in the mid 1800s, denim has become a product of globalization, as it gained both attention and wear by billions (Foreman 2015). As various styles have evolved from denim, jeans have deemed consistency throughout popular culture movements, withstanding the test of time. Not only has denim broken barriers of age, class, and race, but the way in which jeans have been altered is a direct product of popular culture, carried out via youth subcultures. Why study something as acquisitive as denim when examining theories of popular culture, particularly when trends come and go? British media theorist and sociologist Dick Hebdige is distinguished for his popular culture studies, as he is labeled as the primary popular culture reference maker. His research via sociological analysis has paved the way for proceeding theorists to further explore the complexity of popular culture movements. Denim, however, is unique in the sense that the evolution of this single garment has disrupted orthodox societal structures not only in its country of origin, but also globally. Its invention and circulation epitomize the exchange and intersection of cultural studies, allure a wide audience, and exemplify both political and economic societal shifts. In order to understand how jeans have gained status as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
