This document discusses smart antenna investigations for wireless cellular systems. It begins with an abstract that outlines how smart antennas can mitigate fading effects, increase traffic capacity through spatial division multiple access, and introduce frequency reuse. It then provides background on smart antennas, including that they are arrays that modify signal amplitudes and phases to improve reception. Key techniques discussed are direction of arrival estimation and adaptive beamforming, which allow forming beams toward intended users and nulls toward interferers. Simulation results show that increasing antenna array sizes reduces errors but increases complexity and cost. In conclusion, larger arrays can more accurately receive signals of interest while rejecting others not of interest.

5G Fixed Beam Switching on Microstrip Patch Antenna IJECEIAES
5G technology is using millimeter-wave band to improve the wireless communication system. However, narrow transmitter and receiver beams have caused the beam coverage area to be limited. Due to propagation limitations of mm wave band, beam forming technology with multi-beam based communication system, has been focused to overcome the problem. In this letter, a fixed beam switching method is introduced. By changing the switches, four different configurations of patch array antennas are designed to investigate their performances in terms of radiation patterns, beam forming angle, gain, half-power bandwidth and impedance bandwidth at 28 GHz operating frequency for 5G application. Mircostrip antenna is preferred due to its low profile, easy in feeding and array configurations. Three different beam directions had been formed at -15°, 0°, and 15° with half-power bandwidth of range 45˚ to 50˚.
In this paper a compact, flexible, Multiband antenna is designed. It is having flexible Substrate of photographic paper which makes the antenna conformal. The antenna with two U slots cut in radiating patch is offset fed by microstrip lines gives the multiple bands of WLAN/WIMAX Application and two parasitic Elements improves the bandwidth of a typical microstrip antenna. The Measured results shows that the antenna resonates between Frequency band 2.10-2.95 GHz, 3.35-3.54 GHz and 5.04-6.0Hz.which are used for application such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Zigbee, ISM 2.4GHz,WLAN WiMAX, and WLAN 5.2GHz.
Design and Simulation of Smart Antenna for D2D Communicationijtsrd
Device to Device D2D communication allows user devices to directly communicate with each other. D2D using smart antenna will reduce the interference and also reduce the power with respect to distance between the devices. This D2D communication generates directional signal transmission between D2D pairs and reduces the interference between other users. This study also proposes the study of 4x4 MIMO microstrip patch antenna for 5G cellular network. This antenna operates at the frequency of 3.3 4.2 GHZ and its resonant frequency is 3.75GHZ. Rogers RO4350B lossy with thickness of 0.101mm and dielectric constant has been used as the antenna substrate. The simulations results shows that the proposed antenna design and it explains about the beam forming concepts that provides the need of D2D communication for 5G application. The antenna is steered to particular direction with the help of beam forming algorithm. This shows that such scheme improves the system capacity compared to the traditional one by focusing it in a desired direction. This method will provide security to the data, increases the network efficiency, consume less power and traffic made by the signals is reduced. Dr. Arunachalaperumal | B. S. Aparna | R. Gain Enhancement of Series Feed Square Patch Microstrip Antenna Array for S b...ijsrd.com
Gain is the ability of an antenna to concentrate the radiated power in a desired direction. Only small gain can be achieved by single antenna that is why, antenna arrays are required to improve the gain by using different feed networks. This paper describes the design and performance of a series feed antenna array. The operating frequency of 2.4GHz is used. The aim of this paper is to improve the gain of a series feed antenna array. Line feed is used for designing single antenna, 2x1 & 4x1 microstrip antenna array. These series feed microstrip antenna arrays are useful for both S and C band. The proposed antenna is simulated by IE3D version 9.0 Zealand simulation software based on method of moments.
In this paper, three novel designs of broadband patch antenna are proposed. The first design propose
broadband slotted equilateral triangular patch antenna (ETPA) operating on frequency around 1800 MHz.
The second design propose broadband slotted right angle isosceles triangular patch antenna RAITPA operating on frequency around 2400 MHz. The third design proposes wideband V-Slotted and shorted edge ETPA antenna operating on frequency around 2400 MHz. The two powerful software HFSS and IE3D are used to simulate the proposed designs. Very good agreement between HFSS and IE3D software is obtained. The designs were chosen to fit modern wireless communication applications operate at Industrial Scientific Medical (ISM) bands such as Wireless local area networks (WLAN). Moreover, mounting the patch on thick substrate with loaded slot technique and loading the patch with a notch technique were used to enhance the bandwidth of those designs. Hence, large fractional bandwidth is obtained.
DESIGN OF A COMPACT CIRCULAR MICROSTRIP PATCH ANTENNA FOR WLAN APPLICATIONS pijans
This paper presents the design of a compact circular microstrip patch antenna for WLAN applications which covers the band 5.15 to 5.825 GHz. The antenna is designed using 1.4mm thick FR-4 (lossy)substrate with relative permittivity 4.4 and a microstrip line feed is used. The radius of the circular patch is chosen as 7.62mm. To reduce the size and enhance the performance of the proposed antenna, a circular slot is loaded on circular patch and a square slot is etched on the ground plane of dimension 30mm×30mm. Design of the antenna is carried out using CST Microsoft Studio Sonimulation Software. The proposed antenna resonates at 5.5 GHz with a wider bandwidth of 702 MHz and it provides low return loss of -31.58 dB, good gain of 3.23 dB and directivity of 4.28 dBi and high efficiency of around 79% against the resonance frequency. The geometry of the proposed circular antenna with reduced size and its various performance parameters such as return loss, bandwidth, VSWR, gain, directivity, efficiency and radiation pattern plots are presented and discussed.

Design and simulation of an adaptive beam smart antenna using MATLABnooriasukmaningtyas
Signals transmitted over a long range of distance may pass through several obstacles and scatter, taking multiple paths to reach the receiver. Beamforming antennas are controlled electronically to adjust the radiation pattern following the first received signal. This allows the antenna to maximize the received signal and consequently, suppress the interfering signals received. A smart antenna should be able to diminish noise, increase the signal to noise ratio, and have better system competence. The adaptive beam makes use of the spacing of the several antennas and the phase of the signal of each antenna array to control the shape and direction of the signal beam. This paper focuses on the use of smart antennas using an adaptive beam method as a better system for the transmission of signals. A simulation between the existing Omnidirectional antenna system and the smart antenna system will be made and compared. The paper will discuss the corresponding advantages that a smart antenna system has compared to the Omnidirectional antenna system.

Designing large-scale antenna array using sub-arrayjournalBEEI
Antenna array of large scale have been examined for different applications including 5G technology. To get better data rate or a reliable link substantial number of antenna arrays have been utilized to provide high multiplexing gains as well as array gains with high directivity. In this paper a simple but efficient implementation technique of using sub-arrays for the improvement of large-sized uniform arrays. By repeating a small sub-array multiple times large arrays can be designed. This implication of utilizing small array simplifies the design of a larger array which allows the designer to concentrate on the smaller sub-array before assembling larger arrays. So, by investigating the sub arrays the performance and radiation characteristics of large arrays can be anticipated. The array-factor for a planar sub-array of 2x2 (4 elements) is analyzed using Mat-lab software and then a large array is formed by placing the 2x2 sub-array indifferent configurations in a rectangular arrangements up to 8x8 planar array. And then the results are validated with CST (Computer simulation technology) simulation results. In this way the array-factors, directivities, HPBWs, and side lobes of the constructed large arrays are analyzed and associated with the small sub-array.
