Effects of Overpopulation and Industrialization on the...
Effects of Overpopulation and Industrialization on the Environment
Throughout history, the world s population has expanded in an extremely exponential fashion taking
over three million years to achieve a one billion person benchmark, it then only took 130, 30, 15, 12,
and 11 years to reach subsequent billions, respectively. (Southwick, 159) Such a massive and still
increasing population, combined with the environmentally detrimental repercussions of
industrialization (as a result of the need to sustain such a large population), namely pollution from
fossil fuels, has begun to take a serious toll on our planet s ecosystem. Moreover, some scientists have
calculated that an optimal human population on earth in terms of reasonable ... Show more content on

Regardless of whether or not pollution increases as population increases, (Edwin Dolin strongly
refutes this principle that population increases lead to increases in pollution) the statistics nonetheless
illustrate that increased population, and now what many consider overpopulation, has without a doubt
led to continuingly deteriorating environmental conditions. Especially since the beginning of the
Industrial Revolution, new technologies have enabled cultures and communities, initially in the new
territories traversed by the Europeans, to expand in populace: we are forever realizing that the
Industrial Revolution has changed forever the relationship between humanity and nature. There is a
real concern that by the middle or the end of the 21st century human activities will have changed the
basic conditions that have allowed life to thrive on earth. (Internet 1) These basic conditions include
the earth s natural climate and the depletion and manipulation of its natural resources. Such expansion
(since the Industrial Revolution) and creation of new establishments began, on a small scale, to effect
the environment in many ways. The first element of the environment that was immediately effected
was forests. Massive deforestation occurred, and still does so today, as land was cleared to make way
for new towns. Moreover, many construction projects also used wood from trees, not to mention other
commercial uses, such as paper, and fuel. Deforestation may

Dirt Bike Usa
Dirt Bikes USA
Background: Dirt Bikes USA was founded in 1991 by Carl Schmidt and Steven McFadden. These two
entrepreneurs saw the increasing demand for Dirt bikes, and took the initiative to capitalize on their
idea. These two former bikers took their knowledge of dirt bikes and their love of the sport and
developed on that foundation. Their idea was to give the customer a product that was aptly suited for
the specific needs of the customer. Also the duo wanted to give something more than just a bike, they
wanted to provide the highest possible satisfaction at a reduced cost than their competitors. To reach
this goal they developed frames for dirt bikes that were more suited to off road handling and started
using these frames to build ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A better way to read the model is to say that the organization structure is sort of flat, hence it is still a
growing company, but 5 different groups report to one department and then that department as well as
two others report to the CEO and COO as aptly outlined by the model. With little expertise in the E
commerce business, it gives Dirt Bikes competitors a slight advantage in marketing its products on the
web.
The Problem: Dirt Bikes USA do not have an adequate internet based platform as to which it can
sell its products. This means that its competitors have the advantage to sell in prime estate areas that
would normally be essential to Dirt Bikes success. To overcome this problem the implementation of a
web site and more software are a necessity. To implement systems such as SAP or an Oracle system,
Dirt bikes will need to invest some serious money into the transition. However some downfalls that
arise when technology is introduced into a company include, teaching the staff to use the technology
effectively and intelligently, lost money at the point of implementation, and the possibility for the
system to crash if not set up properly. Dirt Bikes will also need a user friendly, visually stimulating,
easy to navigate web site. This means that more money will need to be spent in order to get the ball
rolling on this new transition. Because Dirt Bikes do not sell directly to retail customers, it relies on a
network of 40 distributors concentrated in

The Long Brush Analysis
The Long Crush is an essay about the game of disc golf. The writer started the essay by pointing out
the differences between the games of disc golf, Frisbee golf, and ultimate Frisbee. He writes about
how a Frisbee is only capable of doing small amounts of damage when a golf disc could, in his
opinion, kill someone. The writer then talks about how the game can be played anywhere at any time.
After talking about what conditions he plays in, and how well he can throw the disc, he then talks
about how, in comparison to other sports, disc golf is easier to understand and is not as expensive. The
writer then gets in depth about how the game brings out a geekish side of him that causes him to buy
several related items for his profession.

Essay On Mt St Helens
The Helens Volcano has had minor eruptions before, but the major eruption that it is known for
happened May 18, 1980. Before 1980, snow capped, Mount St. Helens was known as the Fujiyama of
America. Mt. St. Helen is only one of many volcanoes that lie on the ring of fire. This is a highly
active zone that produces frequent earthquake, hot spots, and volcanic activity. This volcano is best
known for its destructiveness. There were minor eruptions in 1898, 1903, 1932, and most of the 20th
century. None of these came close to the damage that the 1980 eruption caused. The eruption lasted
over 2 months and caused that one side of the slope being the north side was destroyed from the
magma. This volcano had ash flow into 11 different states. Out of the 11 states that experienced it s
eruption, 57 people died due to the eruption of Mt. St. Helens. Some state highways and roads had to
be closed and highway repairs alone run into hundreds of millions of dollars. Many pieces from the
mountains were rushing down the mountain and onto the ground at 300 miles per hour. Trees, some
200 feet high, were stripped of branches and bark. Some old growth trees ... Show more content on

St. Helens. Mt. St. Helens has been the most frequent Volcano for the past 4000 years. Native
Americans were also once living near the Volcano. Due to a much bigger eruption, 3600 years ago, the
Indians abandoned their hunting grounds in fear of their lives. After the eruption ash rose 80,000 feet
into the sky after just 15 minutes! In September of 2004 this Volcano started to erupt frequently once
again until january of 2008! Thousands of birds, mammals, and reptiles died after the eruption. Within
3 minutes of the eruption lateral blast traveled at 300+ miles per hour and burned down 230 square
miles of the forest that had surrounded the Volcano. Out of all the facts that I have researched these

Robert Hunter West s Milton And The Angels
Robert Hunter West. Milton and the Angels.
The University of Georgia: The University of Georgia Press, 1955.
Robert H. West s Milton and the Angels consists of ten chapters which are divided into two main
sections. The first half of the book expounds upon the history of the study of angels in the Western
hemisphere and then in England specifically. The second half of the book examines the titular subject
of John Milton s propositions on angels. The final chapter of the work, reiterates and summarizes all
nine previous chapters to reveal their larger purpose and significance within the book itself and within
Milton s entire career. Through the structure, West outlines that he tried to give an orderly and
proportioned, though elementary, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

While each of the different traditions had very different beliefs on the details of angelology, such as
the exemplified Catholic and Protestant differences, each agreed upon the necessity of angelology,
which West reveals through the words of John Calvin. Beyond the question of the rank, West
expounds upon controversies about the nature, purpose, substance, ability, activity, and humanity of
angels throughout every age of history from the Greek and Roman empires to Milton s seventeenth
century England to both contextualize the book s subject for readers and to illuminate the significance
and depth behind John Milton s own literary representation of angels.
In chapters six and seven, West introduces Milton s angelology and examines the choices he makes
throughout his literature to maintain a specific representation of the angels and other supernatural
subjects. Specifically, West identifies three problems Milton had to overcome in writing Paradise Lost,
which involved balancing the need for literary description with the strict, biblical interpretation of
angels hailed in Puritanism, deciding which opinions on angelology could be used to truthfully deduce
the needed level of description, and broadly,

The Importance Of Social Responsibility
Social responsibility suggests that a business is obligated to perform in such a way that benefits
society, as a whole, in order to accomplish their civic duty. Social responsibility is crucial to a
business success as it affects the way consumers view a company. It is important because it proves that
the company cares for social issues that are not directly related to their ability to make profit. By
associating your business with issues that affect the public, and not sales, your company will appear to
be more admirable. Businesses strive to obtain a positive image and by practicing activities that
benefit society they ll reach success. However, where do businesses stand today with respect to the
criteria for evaluating social responsibility? The fashion industry is a massive industry containing
numerous businesses. Some businesses believe in social responsibility and value the idea of aiding
their consumers. Nevertheless, there are still businesses who overlook social responsibility and don t
believe in the practice of giving back to society. These businesses are required to repay their
consumers through respecting the environment, their workers and customers. The clothing industry
has a large amount of businesses who do value corporate social responsibility. Adidas is a company
who is passionate about climate change and they attempt to spread awareness by sending a climate
declaration to the U.S. Congress. In the 2012 London Olympic Games, volunteers wore jackets

The Danger Of Faith By Nathanial Hawthorne
The Danger of Faith Many remember Young Goodman Brown as the classic tale of a young idealistic
Puritan and his brush with the devil. This classic allegory by Nathanial Hawthorne, led him to be
considered the founder of the modern short story. (Kellan) This story explores the relationship
between faith, destiny and the evilness of mankind. It also exposes the hypocrisy of those who are
considered the most righteous, and what can happen when a person s ideals are shattered. There is a
lot of symbolism found in this short story. The symbolism between his wife Faith and his spiritual
faith is very obvious and it does not take a great leap of imagination to connect the two. Brown has
only been married for three months which could signify that he has only recently thought of his place
in heaven as secure. (Connolly) Brown also believes that faith is his way to heaven; this is shown
when he bargains with himself that once he finishes this one evil errand he will follow her to heaven.
The relationship between Brown and the forest is one of a curious Human exploring the world of sin.
His errand is never specified in the text, but he essentially goes looking for the devil. He even states
that Faith kept me back a while. This shows some reluctance, but faith is still not enough to keep him
from his task. Often in fiction the forest is regarded as a dark evil place full of terror and mystery. It
makes sense that Brown would go to such a place for his mysterious walk

Informative Essay On Ice Hockey
There are many fun and exciting games in the winter Olympic. There is snowboarding, figure skating,
bobsledding, and many more sports. But one of the most exciting and intense ones is ice hockey. Ice
hockey is played by many countries and is a very popular international sport. Every year there is a
men s and women s tournament. 12 teams compete in the men s tournament and 6 in the women s.
People from all over the globe gather to watch these teams compete. So what is ice hockey? Basically,
Ice hockey is a contact sport played between two teams on an ice court. The goal of the game is to hit
a round puck into a guarded goal. Each team has six players and one goalie on the court at one time.
Each player has protective gear like helmets and pads. They also have a hockey stick that they use to
hit the puck into the goal. The goalie s gear is a little different than the players. The goalie has very
thick pads that cover his entire body, a large helmet, and a hockey stick.
Now that you know what the objective of the game is, you should also know the rules of the game. ...

There are two main rules. First, players are not allowed to hit or assault each other with their
equipment. And second, they are only permitted to touch each other to a certain extent. In addition,
hockey games could contain many face offs. A face off is when the referee drops the puck between
two players that are separate teams. The two player both try to gain control of the puck by hitting it to
a teammate. In ice hockey there are also many penalties for not following the rules such. One of the
main penalties is having to play shorthanded. This happens when a player is placed in a penalty box
for a certain amount of time ranging from 2 to 10 minutes. This results in one team only having five
players on the

RQ-7 Shadow
The continued development of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) creates new capabilities and
continually improves legacy platforms. A system in development over the years is the RQ 7 Shadow.
This platform has a wide verity of uses and capabilities ranging from tactical to strategic mission sets.
The United States developed this system to provide Brigade (BDE) commanders with improved
capabilities and situational awareness within their area or responsibility (AOR) (TC 2 22.7, 2011).
Through these advancements UAS are improving the capabilities within the geospatial intelligence
(GEOINT) profession by helping to solve GEOINT intelligence problem sets. The United States
military used UAS technology during WWII and the Vietnam wars. However, the development of the
RQ 7 Shadow did not start until 1991. It was first flown by the Army for testing in 1992 and mass
production began in 1999. Manufacturers delivered the RQ 7 Shadow to army units in 2001 and began
operations in 2002 (Military Periscope, 2014). The most common payload the RQ 7 carries is the Plug
in Optronic Payload visible/Infrared (P.O.P. visible/IR). The P.O.P. visible/IR payload gives the
shadow capabilities to shoot full motion video (FMV) day and night, daytime TV during the day, and

Ultimately, the RQ 7 Shadow is an asset that can generate great results, because it is easily accessible

Analytical Essay on The Notebook Film
In the early 1900 s silent films amazed audiences with images, later talkies impressed with sound,
today we have 3D. As technology continues to evolve so too will film genres. Genres, while having
some shared characteristics, also differ in terms of stylistic devices used. For instance, the dramatic
film The Notebook effectively uses color to reinforce theme and has plausible performers as the two
main protagonists.
The Notebook directed by Nick Cassavetes in 2004 tells the story of a couple s fifty year long love
affair and its trials and tribulations. The film begins in a nursing home where an old man (Noah) reads
a book to an old lady (Allie) suffering from Alzheimer s. Noah, a poor country boy, and Allie, a rich
city girl, meet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their facial expressions, gestures and movements make audiences empathize with the protagonists. In
the scene of their first quarrel Rachel McAdams cries, sobs, portrays despair and pleads to stay ,as
realistically as if she feels her character s emotions. In scenes of happy moments she smiles and
laughs sincerely, like when she listens to Noah (Ryan Gosling) sitting next to her. Ryan Gosling also
demonstrated his acting talents in the movie. His character is very romantic and faithful and the actor
expressed these traits very well. For instance, in the scene he first meets her he looks at her with
loving eyes, his eyebrows are raised a bit as he cannot stop admiring her. When other women try to
talk to him, he lets them see their attempts are futile via tone changes and hands crossed on his chest,
which express his love and faithfulness. Such a realistic actors performance reinforces the dramatic
plot.
Warm and pastel colors predominate in The Notebook . The creators intended to reinforce the theme
also by means of colors. Episodes, in which Allie and Noah are together, have more white, beige,
pink, light blue and green. For instance, Noah painted the house he restored in white color; the sky is
clear and blue when they are together. The white color of the house represents purity of Noah s love
and his devotion to Allie, and the clear

Franz Kafka as a Hunger Artist
Through much of Franz Kafka s writing, the reader can see how his personal experiences and
viewpoints are clearly worked into his many stories. One of which stands out is his story A Hunger
Artist. In this story Kafka speaks through the hunger artist of the alienation and isolation he feels in
his own body, as well as the emptiness he feels as a result of the disconnected relationship he and his
father share. Ironically this emptiness manifests itself quite literally at the end of Kafka s life, when he
dies as a result of tuberculosis of the larynx, which causes him to literally starve to death, just as the
hunger artist in the story. It was said about his writing the early manifestations of authentic originality
were nurtured in solitary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like the hunger artist, he too lived in a state of constant want for both food and recognition, as he
longed for his father s acceptance. From the very beginning of Kaka s life, his family had been
organized by, around, and for the benefit of his overbearing father. As a result of his father s constant
criticisms, Kafka began to criticize himself, as he felt crushed by his ever present burden of guilt,
which he turned into self hatred. One of the most significant influences on Kafka s life and work was
his domineering father. Kafka s stories often contain themes drawn from the burden of his father s
tyranny in his home life, depicting settings of confinement as well as convoluted systems of
punishment and other expressions of seemingly all powerful authority. (Miline 100) He blames his
father for having robbed him of his childhood, never giving him the attention he is starving for, and
like the hunger artist, he spends his whole life seeking it. The most sustained account of Kafka s
childhood is seen by Kafka himself, contained in the fifty page

Observation Paper On The Empire State Building
Tihun Lowe
ARC 2701
Observation Paper (Empire State Building)
The Empire State Building is a skyscraper located in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. Its
construction began on March 17, 1930, and was completed on April 11, 1931. John Jacob Raskob, the
creator of General Motors, wanted a building that would have been taller than Walter Chrysler s
building. He went to William Lamb, someone who was a partner at the architectural firm of Shreve,
Lamb, and Harmon and he explains to him his dream of a skyscraper that would exceed the Chrysler
Building. When the Empire State Building was being made, there were only two criteria that were
needed to be followed during the construction: the first one was that it must resemble a pencil. The
second criteria were that it must soar higher than any other structure in the world. Although the
building had many setbacks during the construction of it the building ended up finishing 45 days
ahead of schedule and on top of that the building ended up being $5 million dollars under budget.
The Empire State Building was then viewed as a new symbol of what felt like a New America. During
the 1920s and the 1930s, the United States was being split from an old style of rural traditions and
eventually was beginning to make modern urban traditions. When the Empire State Building was
being built, it began to fuel the power and wealth of the clients who were children of immigrants, this

In 2008, Australia saw its educational framework altered and transformed by the Melbourne

underpinning goals (MCEETYA, 2008): 1) Australian schooling promotes equity and excellence and

This is reiterated by the fact that under 30% of Australian children participated in the preschool sector
in 2008, as well as educators low pay rates, lack of funding to the sector and the constant barrage of
academic articles consistently reaffirming early childhood education s worth (Albon, 2011; Keeley,
2007; Zajda, Davies Majhanovich 2008). In spite of consistent beliefs that the EYLF (DEEWR, 2009)
learning outcomes and Australian Curriculum general capabilities (ACARA, 2014) complement one
another, the emphasis on meeting and recognising children s individual and diverse learning needs
have become neglected in exchange for the popularity of standardised testing (NAPLAN) (ACARA,
2014; Connor, 2011; Klenowski Wyatt Smith, 2011; Reid, 2009). Consequently, the Australian
Curriculum (ACARA, 2014) has mirrored British education models by placing utmost importance on
assessing the essential twenty first century skills of literacy and numeracy, ultimately, adopting a
social efficiency approach with its focus on producing socially ideal active and informed members of
society as opposed to promoting the personal growth of individual citizens (ACARA, 2014;
Klenowski Wyatt Smith, 2011; Lingard, 2010; MCEETYA, 2008; Reid, 2009; Schiro 2013).

Southwest Colonies Vs New England Colonies
The aspects of religion and economics differed greatly between Southwest and New England colonies.
Each colony had different religious backgrounds and different ways of making money and sustaining a
stable economy. This was because of the different religious views the held by the settlers or the
economic strengths and weaknesses including the geographical region. The religious views of the
Southwest Colonies and New England colonies hugely contrasted. The dominant religion in Spain at
the time was Catholicism. Catholicism gave the Spaniards a common identity and allowed them to
explore much faster than the English who were experiencing a religious civil war at the time. So the
Spanish went over to spread Catholicism. The Franciscans and

Security Cameras In Public Safety And Safety In Schools
Standing in the english classroom, I realized that my phone was nowhere to be found. As I searched
through my belongings, I began to feel a sense of despair and disbelief. I wondered if I could have left
my phone in another class; the bathroom; at lunch; or even worse, if someone had stolen it. After
investigating each area, I still could not find my phone. Suddenly, I realized that the school might have
security cameras that may locate the phone. However, I was shocked to learn that the school did not
have such surveillance cameras. The use of security cameras may have helped avoid this situation. In
regards to public safety and welfare, security cameras provide an effective way to oversee individuals
and their actions. Schools should continue their surveillance practices to maintain safety and ensure
justice for crimes or other offences.
Security cameras are beneficial because the safety of students will be increased. Fights and stealing
can be caught on camera and then the people involved can receive consequences for their actions. For
example, if my chromebook is stolen in school, the security cameras can be checked. The cameras will
show who took the stolen item, and they will receive necessary consequences. As a result, people
would have less items stolen from them. Individuals that were involved in fights can also be caught.
Administrators will not be relying on the stories of the ones involved, but on reliable cameras.
Therefore, overall, the security

Yu Hua s Original Work
Zhang Yimou s film To Live has a same general plot as Yu Hua s original work To Live. It takes about
the lives of Fugui and his family in twentieth century China. It explores a lot of aspects such as the
filial piet, persona growth, political policies and personal life. It also talks about traditional Chinese
culture and Communist policies in a criticism standing point. However, in some ways, the film is quite
different from Yu Hua s original work. And it departs from the plot and the themes of Yu Hua s To
Live in couple ways, such as character developing, setting, criticism of Chinese Communist party,
description of life in China s 20s century. One of the major themes of Yu Hua s novel is about Fugui s
large change from addicted gambler who loses all his family s fortune, play with prostitutes and
shames on his wife in gambling hall and shame his family. In the later, he becomes a devoted father
and a hard working husband that in order to make life better, he becomes a farmer of his family s

The Importance Of Video Games
Video games are generally seen as a waste of time and nothing good can come out of playing them.
People usually associate video games with nerds and adults who stay in the basements of their parent s
house. With all these negative associations with video games, it is hard to see that video games can
actually be helpful and beneficial to an individual s mental and physical health. The negative
associations of video games started from the Video game crash of 1983. The crash led to bankruptcy
of numerous companies that were producing computers and video game consoles. Due to the
bankruptcy, the majority of the population believed that working for computer companies and video
games would be a waste of time since job security was not high. Presently, both computer and video
games companies are successful, but the majority of the population still believes the negative aspect of
video games. While it was about job security before, the negativity aspect associated with video
games has changed. The big negative aspect associated with gaming is that it is a waste of time and
can only negatively affect an individual s mental and physical health. Chris Regal, an author of Health
Central who wrote 8 Ways Video Games Are Bad For Your Health, argued that video games increases
obesity, increases aggressive behavior, and more likely to become less educated. While these claims
can be true, these claims also focus on individuals who have spent the majority of their time playing
video games. I can see Regal s conclusion because there are cases that prove that his points. The
increase in obesity is true because individuals are more and more of their time playing video games
instead of exercising. People believe it increases aggressive behavior because most action games are
usually aggressive, but in reality, individuals with high aggressive behavior are usually the ones who
play aggressive action games. Individuals are also more likely to be less educated because children
who go to school would not focus on studying or doing their homework because they want to play
video games more. Since the majority of the population believe these claims, a new derogatory was
created to describe gamers which is NEET. NEET is short for Not in

Analysis Of One Big Myth And One True Hero
The Western genre can be a variety of works, including texts and films, which are set in the American
Old West during the latter half of the nineteenth century. This genre primarily focuses on the life of a
cowboy with gunfights, a good guy and a bad guy, and the usually ending of riding off into the sunset.
The common misconception that is shown throughout the Western genre is that the male characters are
always the hero, whereas the female characters are impediments and less valuable. This relates to
Susan Lee Johnson s quote on how the Western genre always portrays One Big Myth and One True
Hero. She states that Much is held in abeyance when {the} impulse to find One Big Myth and to
indentify its One True Hero is indulged. Johnson ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just like in Johnny Guitar, Reichardt uses the women to tell the story instead of the men. We see that
throughout the movie, the camera stays closer to the women when men talk rather than follow the
men. This is showing that women are the main focus and this story is going to be told through their
point of view. Since the movie has women at the center of it, Reichardt shows that some women are
fearless and resilient. Emily Tetherow, one of the main women, stands her ground against Stephan
Meek when he threatens to kill the Indian. She also fixes the Indian s shoe not because she was being
nice, but because she wanted him to owe her something. Emily may be brave and strong, but she is
definitely not an earth mother. She was conniving and wasn t afraid to pick up a gun and fight for what
she believed in. She would go against part of the group if it meant she would survive. Meek s Cutoff is
also not like a traditional Western in the sense that there are no gunfights, no good guy versus the bad
guy, and ultimately there is no action in the movie. However, Westerns are usually set in desolate
landscapes, like the desert or mountains, because they show the harshness of the wilderness. Meek s
Cutoff is set in this type of landscape and it certainly shows how harsh the wilderness can be. Besides
that aspect of a traditional Western, the movie incorporates its own twists. Just like Johnny Guitar and
Meek s Cutoff, Winona also goes against what is considered traditional and revolutionizes the

Social Differentiation And Separation Of Latin American...
Cities have been traditionally seen as the breeding grounds for citizenship, the latter usually framed in
terms of dwellers having specific rights, duties, some sort of political participation and frequent
interactions with each other. Yet, urbanization can also present many challenges that further
disenfranchise and marginalize residents. As the most urbanized region in the world, Latin American
cities highlight both of these sceneries. Industrialization and neoliberal economic policies led to the
continent s rapid urbanization, introducing large developments but also deeply segregated urban

American leaders efforts to tackle this issue have presented both setbacks and opportunities to

Social differentiation and separation have been frequent characteristics of Latin American cities, in
both physical, psychological and cultural terms. As Teresa Caldeira indicates in City of Walls, the
pattern of segregation in Latin America traditionally obeyed the center periphery model where the
middle and upper classes lived in legalized neighborhood in the center of the cities, while the poor

Comparative Analysis Of Strategies And Views Of Katha...
In this paper, comparative analysis of strategies and views of Katha Pollitt and Aaron Devor, about the
determinants which define roles of genders in a society will be discussed. The central idea of the paper
is that gender has specific roles which are defined through their innate characteristics and social
constructs. Since the start of feminist movements, a debate has arised on the behaviors and roles of
genders. Feminist movements were purposed to achieve, the rights of women based on their roles
equal to men in the society. Which led to debate over differences between abilities and preferences of
gender that are the basis of different and unequal roles of males and females.
Girls and boys have different preferences and divergent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to that people around that child will justify these sterotype behaviors by defining them as
natural roles which result from differences in hormones and genes. As she says, we are told that the
source of these robust preferences must lie outside society in prenatal hormonal influences, brain
chemistry, genes and that feminism has reached its natural limits. (Pollitt,1).
According to Devor, all female were biologically destined to have role of maternity and household.
There is a reason behind certain differences between biological structures and cognitive behaviors of
males and females. Hence, females were predisposed to have role of maternity and children care while
males do not have this role. He believes in hierarchical appraisals of natural roles of males and
females. If an individual performs duties which are naturally attributed to opposite gender, that
individual will not receive encouraging response from society (Devor,674). Girls and boys are born
different because of biological evolutions and gene differences, thus different gender attributes start
before birth. There are several biological differences in physical structure as well as cognitive
processes and intellectual traits of males and females. These cognitive differences exist due to
presence of some particular hormones in gender. If these particular hormones are removed from an
individual, he will no longer display characteristics

Emily Grierson Synthesis
In the short story A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner, there are many different ways that readers
could interpret the story. Some may choose to interpret the story through gender roles, ethnicity, or
even social class. The social class is the most important in this situation, all people are judged on what
social class they fit into. When born into a wealthy family, it is automatically assumed that those
people are higher up and better than others. There is more to a person than just the social class they
fall under. Emily Grierson was born into a wealthy, aristocratic family, so it only makes sense that
people think that she is better than everyone. She had a servant by the name of Tobe who helped her
with the chores around the household, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Women are all around treated differently than men, and especially in this time period. Emily was an
older woman that had never been without a dominant, male figure in her life. Her father and the ex
love of her life had always been there for her. This is when Homer Barron came into her life and she
realized that she never wanted to lose him. Even though Emily was eventually with Homer, that did
not mean she was lower in the social class because she was with a laborman. Emily was higher up in
the social system but people still did not know her for who she truly was. The rose of the story
symbolizes love. All Emily ever wanted was to love someone and to be loved by that same person, she

Phaedo By Plato
Platonic Dialogue
Phaedo is a recount of Socrates final hour before his death, written by Plato in the form of a dialogue
between Phaedo (Socrates prison guard) and Echecrates (1). In Socrates final hours we find him
surrounded by like minds, pondering what happens to the soul after death, and if death is truly the end
or just a new beginning. Those present at the prison include Socrates, Apollodorus, Simmias, Cebes,
and Phaedo (2).
Socrates explains that in his year of learning and questioning the world around him he has found that
everything has a beginning and an end. However, often that end is not an end but a new beginning.
Socrates explains this by illustrating how a tall man is the opposite of a short man, yet the tall man had

Chivalry Code
However, Chaucer not only recognized pride within the hierarchies of the common man, but also
recognized the immorality of the knighthood. Knights were usually born into their class and raised to
serve their lords, thus decorating them with a sense of nobility and pride (McLean and Signman 18).
Because of their role of protection, knights were commanded to adhere to a code of conduct.
According to the book, What Life Was Like In the Age of Chivalry, this code of conduct was
constructed by the king and enforced the idea of a strict sense of honor, morale, and duty (53). This
code of conduct was vital for the morality of the knights and was commonly believed to be a
mechanism used to elevate the status of women; however, according to Natalie Demasi, chivalry isn t
about women at all. It is a code written for knights, for the men. Chivalry s true purpose was meant to
elevate the religious and social status of male knights, not the women. This ... Show more content on

While Dorigen, the wife of the knight Arviragus, laments over her husband s absence, Arviragus is
calm, not inclined to worry about whether anyone had spoken to her of love (Chaucer 469). Arviragus

knight; however, despite the love they share, Dorigen still barters a deal with another squire for her
love. Chaucer was able to recognize the irony within the knighthood and thus produce a tale in which
the Knight, haughty in his mindset of his social status, did not realize the unfaithfulness of his own
wife. Because the knights were regarded as the ideal warrior and man, pride naturally formed in their
behavior. Therefore, Chaucer portrayed the hypocrisy within their ideals and attacked the knighthood
and its social structure in regards to the falsehood of

Louis Armstrong s Life, His Music And Influence On Others
The person I chose to do my project on is Louis Armstrong. I chose Louis Armstrong because I
wanted to do my project on a singer as well as a musician. I chose him because he was one of the few
people that I knew about, also because I did some research on him and listened to his music and I
thought that he was interesting to write about. My main three things that I m going to discuss about
Louis Armstrong will be his life, his music and influence on others. I m going to describe how and
where Louis Armstrong s grew up and how he started out his career as a trumpeter. I m also going to
write about how he went through life and how that affected him in the future. Lastly, I m going to
discuss with you how he had an influence on others. I m going to explain how he impacted the world
with his music and how that affected so many people to this day. Louis Armstrong made a great
impact in the world and I m going to teach you all about it.
According to biography.com, Louis Armstrong was born on August 4, 1901 in New Orleans,
Louisiana. He was born into a poor section of New Orleans, which was nicknamed The Battlefield.
Louis Armstrong had a tough childhood when he was growing up, his father was a factory worker that
had left Louis Armstrong s family after he was soon to be born. Louis Armstrong s mom was a
prostitute and she often left him at his maternal grandmother s house. Armstrong had to quit school in
the fifth grade because he needed to begin work to support himself. A

Had Mattel ensured their contracted manufactures were sourcing from proper suppliers, and

Hasbro, Mattel s main competitor has a similar supply chain in place, but avoided the lead paint crisis
due to their commitment to inspection. Hasbro set standards for lead paint that were higher than U.S.
regulatory standards, and took proper measures to make sure their foreign contractors were also
following the same standard. Hasbro placed their own quality assurance inspectors on factory floors,
and inspects each product again before it went to retailers. Hasbro s extra commitment to quality helps
the company deliver a safe and reliable product to customers. Due to the lack of quality management
Mattel announced a voluntary recall of some products. While they did report the safety hazard, they
reportedly took months to gather information and investigate the problem before publically
announcing it. However, under regulatory rules, even potentially hazardous products are supposed to
be reported within 24 hours. Mattel did explain to the customers that the lead paint was due to bad
behavior by their contracted manufactures in China, easing many parents minds that

Essay on Investigate the Water Potential of Potato Cells
Investigate the Water Potential of Potato Cells
Introduction
In my investigation, I hope to determine the water potential of potato cells. The plant material I will
use in my investigation will be potato chips, which I will cut myself prior to the investigation.
I hope to find the concentration of a solution where the chip stays the same mass and length, which
will tell me that the water potential inside the cells is the same as the water potential outside the cells.
Background
Osmosis is defined as the movement of water through a semi permeable membrane. Semi permeable
membranes are permeable to water but impermeable to certain dissolved substances. In the case of this
experiment, the sucrose molecules cannot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I will measure the length and cross sectional area for each chip.
o Time the chip is left in the solution I think that if I were to leave the chips in the solution for only a
small amount of time there might not be sufficient time for the osmosis to occur, so that the chips
would not differ in size enough for conclusive results. Therefore, I will need to give a good amount of
time for the osmosis to occur.
o Temperature I believe that all reactions happen quicker when there is a higher temperature, so
diffusion across the membrane may be faster at higher temperature.
o Concentration of sucrose solution I think that the lower the concentration of the external sucrose
solution, the more the chip will expand (because the cells become turgid).
o Total Volume of sucrose solution I think that changing the volume of sucrose solution may affect the
results of my investigation.
Variable I will change:
I will change the concentration of sucrose solution in my experiment, because I believe the results of
that experiment will tell me the water potential of the potato cells.
Fair Test
I will carry out all my experiments at the same temperature, 20°C, because that is room temperature,
and I will not have to heat up anything. I will cut my chips to the same dimensions every time, using a
ruler, and a sharp knife (for accuracy) to

Motivation For The College Student
Once upon a time, in a somewhat happy place, there lived a young woman. She was freshly divorced
and now wondering how she was going to be all that she had hoped and dreamed of becoming. All her
once future plans were now shattered and she felt broken. In this thunderstorm of a place, there was a
silver lining: her two, handsome princes. They were really her saviors and grounding force. The two
princes became her motivation to start over, create a new life, and start rediscovering herself.
For the college student, motivation is a personal aspiration with much hard work. The college writing
student will focus on increasing writing abilities and becoming a better writer by class end. With a
deep rooted motivation, the learning to write process will continue to be built and perfected over the
course of the student s time in school. For example, I feel that I can write well, yet there are areas that
need improvement, like increased vocabulary and decreased compound complex sentences. Therefore
with each class that I take, my writing abilities can be expanded and practiced, building upon what I
have already learned and observing new ways to apply my writing skills. My motivation is to
accomplish greater polished writing skills and more personal success in writing. Motivation is the
driving force found in the heart and mind that makes goals and dreams happen.
There is a time I remember when vocabulary in writing was strongly encouraged and then I attended

The American Stagnation In The 20th Century
The American Stagnation
Although the war was called the American Revolution , America s founding documents, including the
Constitution and the Bill of Rights, are similar to important British archives, such as the English Bill
of Rights and The Spirit of the Laws, as evidenced by the existence of the same three branches of
power and rights. In the Constitution of the United States of America (which was written by the
people, for the people in 1789), the people describe America s three branches of power legislative,
executive, and judicial and who holds it. According to it, the legislative power is vested in congress ,
the executive branch is vested in a President , and the judicial power is vested in one supreme court

this article makes similar a good conversation and the free market, in that both benefit from the

research about Car2go, which is a unique model using components of car rental and car sharing. It
creates enhanced flexible transportation possibilities for a comparable low price in Ulm in Aachen and
concerning the future in Hamburg as well. Our project work should include a feasibility study if the
business model of car2go can be adapted to the city of Worms. Concerning our teamwork we needed
to figure out which Phases and work packages were related to our project. The next steps had to be

The Biological Approach
The main assumption of the biological approach is behaviour and experiences can be explained by
biological changes in the body. This approach focusses on the investigation of the brain, nervous
system and other biological factors such as hormones; whereas the main assumption of the cognitive
approach is that information received from our senses is processed by the brain and that this
processing influences how we behave or at least justifies how we behave the way we do. Cognitive
processes are examples of hypothetical constructs researchers cannot directly observe processes such
as thinking but we can infer what a person is thinking based on how they act (behavioural patterns).
Some key researchers in the biological approach are Maguire et. Al (2000) Navigation related
structural changes in the hippocampi of taxi drivers, and Sperry (1968) Hemisphere disconnection and
unity in consciousness. Some key researchers in the cognitive approach are Loftus and Palmer (1974)
eyewitness testimony and Baron Cohen (1997) Autism.
There are a few similarities between the two approaches, for example the biological approach likes to
use variants of laboratory experiments from quasi (natural) to experiments in highly artificial settings.
This is done so that the researchers can take advantage of the naturally occurring variables or can
change them easily to suit the experiment and control any extraneous or confounding variables, and
can therefore easily establish cause and effect.

Cyrus And The Babylonian Of The Persian Empire
Cyrus II, more commonly referred to, as Cyrus the Great was the founder of the Persian Empire.
Cyrus is renowned for being one of the greatest historical conquerors, who in two decades (550 530)
conquered all the major empires of the near east, including Media, Lydia and the Neo Babylonian
kingdoms; all these cities united created the largest empire the world had seen to that time . However
in many ancient texts, such as the works of Xenophon, a number of sacred Jewish texts and the
Babylonian peoples, Cyrus was often described as a liberator as apposed to a conqueror . From a
number of ancient written sources, including the Cyropaedia, Cyrus is depicted as a very tolerant and

he defeated Astyages in 550/549 BCE; this version is also reiterated in Xenophon s Cyropaedia . The

texts remain as the most reliable sources that say Cyrus inherited the position of king of Anash, under
Median rule, from his father and predecessor .
In c.550 BCE a battle broke out between the Persians, led by Cyrus the Great and the Median Empire

Cyrus; but instead his armies revolted against him and after his defeat in the battle, Astyages was

Founding Brothers Sparknotes
Joseph J.Ellis provides an insight of how a nation emerged, with a group of memorable individuals
that founded the American Republic. Founding Brothers deals with confrontations and crucial issues
that Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Aaron Burr, Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, James
Madison, and George Washington encountered during an undefined decade where a fragile nation was
being formed. With its main and secondary theme that focuses on the struggles the leaders of the
Revolutionary Generation dealt with for the success of a Union, Founding Brothers is a marvelous
book for historical readers that want an understanding of the political chaos of the early republic.
Founding Brothers immerses the reader into the minds of the founders of America and explores the
consequences of their actions. Divided into six chapters, Ellis demonstrates the thoughts, actions, and
interactions of the figures that created a nation. Collaboration is the main theme because without

Risk Is An Unspoken Meaning
At risk has an unspoken meaning. At risk is synonymous with at risk youth in Western Culture. At risk
is a phrase used in human services, the media, academia and government to identify young people
who are troubling or on the fringe of risky behavior. If you do a Google search of the phrase at risk
over 13 million images will appear most of which are of young people. Risk Discourse creates a risk
society in response to specific populations being on the fringe of what is deemed normal within
society. Risk discourse is a popular modernity term written at length by Modernist such as Ulrich
Beck and Anthony Giddens European Sociologists. A Risk Society was not even a term until the
1980s. In the 1990s Risk Society became popular and it acceptance coincided with the infiltration of
Risk Discourse into sociology, politics, literature and academia. There is an ongoing debate as to
whether environmental concerns created a vacuum for a risk society or if it was a by product of
immigration and the War on Drugs. Either way Risk Discourse and risk society language terms are
here to stay. Peter Kelly poses a question asking if young people are a society s most precious resource
then what does society need to do to adequately utilize this resource. He separates young people into
categories of income, young people are exposed to high risk setting more frequently than high income
youths. Peter Kelly makes this separation to demonstrate there is inadequate research available on

Causes Of The First Kashmir War
Tensions between India and Pakistan can be traced to the partition of British India to form
independent India and Pakistan in 1947. The princely states were forced to decide whether to accede
to either Pakistan or India. This British policy opened the region up to conflict over the princely state
of Kashmir and two others. The territorial dispute over Kashmir led to the First Kashmir War in 1947.
This paper attempts to explain this conflict using different levels of analysis. This paper first explains
the historical context of the war to show the causes of the war. Then this paper goes on to explain the
war using different levels to analysis to determine that dyadic levels and individual decision making
levels all explain the First Kashmir War occurred. The steps to war theory, rational choice, and
psychological models all help to explain why Pakistan and India decided went to war over the
Kashmir Region.
Following the partition of British India, the princely regions had to decide whether to accede into
India or Pakistan. Kashmir was led by a Hindu monarch, Maharaja Hari Singh, and he ruled over a
majority Muslim population (Ganguly 15). For this reason, Maharaja had a difficult time deciding
which state to join. This indecision frustrated Pakistan and pro Pakistani forces within Kashmir, and
rebellions broke out in the Poonch region of Kashmir in October 1947. The First Kashmir War began
on 22 October, 1947 with the invasion by Pakistani forces into the Kashmir region

In Wilfred Owne s Poem, Dulce et Decorum Est, He Attempts...
Dulce et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen takes its title from the Latin phrase that means It is sweet and
becoming to die for one s country . Quite often the barbaric nature of war is over romanticized and the
author uses this title satirically to mock the public s deluded view of war. The poem graphically
describes the hell soldiers have to endure in their everyday battle for survival. These are tragedies of
war that only veterans can fully understand and Wilfred Owen tries to enlighten the general public of
these tragedies through imagery and similes throughout his poem. The speaker lets the reader know

Using the simile like a man in fire or lime (line 12) the author describe the torture being inflicted upon
this man, floundr ing (line 12) as if he were burring alive. Two lines later the dying soldier is said to
drowning under a green sea (line 14), underlining his extreme pain and misery as he is described as
drowning and being burned alive simultaneously.
Since the soldiers could do nothing to help the dying man they flung (line 18) him behind a wagon.
This shows how people are dehumanized in war and their lives are disposable and can simply be flung
away to become another statistic. When the narrator says, In all my dreams, before my helpless sight,
(line 15) it insinuates that all his dreams have been replaced by nightmares of the chilling memory of
how he could not do anything to help his fellow soldier. He can only replay the horrific memory of the
gas attack over and over inside his head. The reader cannot help but visualize this young soldier dying
a slow, painful death. This emphasizes the sarcasm in the title. How can anyone glorify a death so
horrible?
The speaker finally addresses the reader by saying, My friend, you would not tell with such high zest/

The Problem Of Ineffective Leadership
CAUSES OF THE PROBLEM Ineffective Leadership: Leaders who participate in dishonest practices
regularly make an environment of recompense inside of the association that is helpful for deviant
worker conduct that parallels that of the pioneer (Trevino and Brown, 2005). Employees will watch
the moral judgment of their CEO or overseeing chief and are frequently liable to mirror, regardless of
the possibility that such impersonation constitutes acting unscrupulously. Generally, regardless of
whether a pioneer is compensated for his or her conduct will likewise help focus the probability of
representative impersonation. A few powers make despicable comments, verbally ill use, exclude, and
put down their subordinates. Exploration and media reports recommend that turning into a casualty of
leaders coldhearted treatment is a negative ordeal for workers, impeding to their prosperity and the
proficiency of the association. Abuse by leaders has been alluded to in a few ways, including
interpersonal shamefulness, oppressive supervision social undermining, oppression, and tormenting
(Hoel Cooper, 2001). Albeit every conceptualization has unpretentious contrasts, they all include
workers observations that some of their principal mental needs are hindered by a power figure.
Abused workers react contrarily to pioneer abuse and are more prone to take part in freak conduct,
damaging standards of thoughtful behavior and of productive creation (Bennett Robinson, 2000).

show. So it s like I watched cartoons for two or three hours. Some of the best TV I think has been in
the Japanese cartoons and their storylines. Just wild worlds cause I think there s something really cool
about an animation series if you re going to make a prime time TV series they re getting pretty close
with CGI these days, but with a cartoon, the director can say, I literally want all this insane stuff to
happen, and they can just make it happen. They wouldn t have to worry about special effects or any of
that other stuff, so they created some really, really cool worlds in my opinion. That s the nerd starting
to sneak out of me, and I could talk ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And that means there s a lot of me doing heroic battle cries. Stuff that as a kid, I would have been told
, Quiet in there! It s so much fun for me to do that and not get sent to the principal s office for just
turning the class into a frenzy. They re both very different mediums. I love them both to death. I would
never want to trade either of them for the other. I would also say I think some of the best character
actors would make great voice actors.
Another cool thing about voice work is that it provides an opportunity to stretch my instrument in a
way I wouldn t have the opportunity to do with film. In film, you make your name in a certain area,
and then you can break out. But I don t even want to stereotype that because there are so many
different ways of doing it. Long winded answer.
Honestly, it s been interesting just to listen to you because I could tell what you were really passionate
about. So, in addition to Aurora Teagarden, are there any other upcoming works you can

Life Is Worth Living Essay
Would You Plug In?
What kind of life is worth living? Robert Nozick poses the question of whether it is worth to live life
the way it was planned for you or by having the power to pick and choose the experiences you go
through by plugging into the experience machine. Before deciding to go into the machine, a person
must think about what kind of life is worth living. A life worth living is a life with as little suffering
and hardship as possible, where a person can be completely free to chase their dreams. So many
people look for a way to escape the pain that life brings and the experience machine offers a way out.
There are two main reasons to plug into the experience machine; a person can escape the hardships of
life and society s unrealistic expectations about how to live life. Humans go through many hardships
over their lifetime. They experience love, loss, heartbreak, pain, work, happiness, sadness, and many
more things. People have to struggle through school to work their whole lives until they die. These
aspects of human life are used to mark where in the stages of life a person is. To many, these stages
define life and what it stands for, but they are not necessary. A person doesn t have to go through loss
to have a complete life. They don t have to struggle to make ends meet because that s what life is
supposed to be like. they can sidetrack these moments if desired. A person can have a life filled with
happiness and no worry of having to get somewhere in life by plugging into the experience machine.
The experience machine has the capability of getting rid of the hard things we go through. Instead of
going through heartbreak, a person can bypass that by programming the machine to only let them
experience love. Instead of working a grueling job that only pays minimum wage, a person can plug
into the experience machine to a life where they don t have to work to survive. They can live a life full
of happiness, instead of one filled with sadness and hardships. Society places unrealistic expectations
of human life. People are expected to live their life a certain way and when they fall short of that, they
are judged. One problem is that many never get close to the expectations,

Poetry Analysis for Sunshine by Matisyahu
Drury 1
Caitlan Drury
Poetry Analysis for Sunshine By Matisyahu Many songs use different literary devices to communicate
a message out to the audience. One of those songs is Sunshine by Matisyahu, which displays
symbolism, imagery, figures of speech, tone, and theme. Others might not enjoy the song because it
gives mixed signals. Although that is true, there are much more reasons to why someone would enjoy
it. Sunshine by Matisyahu is an effective song because the artist uses a potpourri of literary terms to
present his meaning to the audience. Matisyahu uses symbolism to define the deeper meaning of never
giving up in his song. In Sunshine , the artist says, You re my golden sunshine , which symbolizes the
center of happiness in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Never meant to leave you all alone, said I d be your shelter from the storm, now your clothes have all
been torn, kingdom sacked, attacked, and dethroned . Verse two shows that there were some problems
in the artist s life and that he had lost what was important to him, but repeats the chorus after every
verse to show that even though he had some falls, he still got back up to conquer his goal. The theme
of the song is very significant because it shows the audience to never give up. Sunshine by Matisyahu
is a great song, although many people might not agree. Many people might not enjoy the song
Sunshine by Matisyahu because it gives mixed signals and does not make sense in some parts of it.
Keep on moving to the first rays of dawn, keeping it on til the day stays strong, keepin til the night
time blazes on, all along I keep singing my song. I said this phase is always, sometimes I get so crazed
. This first verse is remarkably jumbled and confusing a person could dislike this song all because of
it. What does This phase is always, sometimes I get so crazed mean? That verse starts the song and the
audience would not understand what is being said. What does the artist mean? Or maybe the chorus is
just repeated a bit too much, which makes the song annoying for the audience. Yes, these arguments
are reasonable, but they are not true. Some of the audience might not enjoy Sunshine , but it is still a

  • 2. Effects of Overpopulation and Industrialization on the... Effects of Overpopulation and Industrialization on the Environment Throughout history, the world s population has expanded in an extremely exponential fashion taking over three million years to achieve a one billion person benchmark, it then only took 130, 30, 15, 12, and 11 years to reach subsequent billions, respectively. (Southwick, 159) Such a massive and still increasing population, combined with the environmentally detrimental repercussions of industrialization (as a result of the need to sustain such a large population), namely pollution from fossil fuels, has begun to take a serious toll on our planet s ecosystem. Moreover, some scientists have calculated that an optimal human population on earth in terms of reasonable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Regardless of whether or not pollution increases as population increases, (Edwin Dolin strongly refutes this principle that population increases lead to increases in pollution) the statistics nonetheless illustrate that increased population, and now what many consider overpopulation, has without a doubt led to continuingly deteriorating environmental conditions. Especially since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, new technologies have enabled cultures and communities, initially in the new territories traversed by the Europeans, to expand in populace: we are forever realizing that the Industrial Revolution has changed forever the relationship between humanity and nature. There is a real concern that by the middle or the end of the 21st century human activities will have changed the basic conditions that have allowed life to thrive on earth. (Internet 1) These basic conditions include the earth s natural climate and the depletion and manipulation of its natural resources. Such expansion (since the Industrial Revolution) and creation of new establishments began, on a small scale, to effect the environment in many ways. This classic allegory by Nathanial Hawthorne, led him to be considered the founder of the modern short story. (Kellan) This story explores the relationship between faith, destiny and the evilness of mankind. It also exposes the hypocrisy of those who are considered the most righteous, and what can happen when a person s ideals are shattered. There is a lot of symbolism found in this short story. The symbolism between his wife Faith and his spiritual faith is very obvious and it does not take a great leap of imagination to connect the two. Brown has only been married for three months which could signify that he has only recently thought of his place in heaven as secure. (Connolly) Brown also believes that faith is his way to heaven; this is shown when he bargains with himself that once he finishes this one evil errand he will follow her to heaven. The relationship between Brown and the forest is one of a curious Human exploring the world of sin. His errand is never specified in the text, but he essentially goes looking for the devil. He even states that Faith kept me back a while. This shows some reluctance, but faith is still not enough to keep him from his task. John Jacob Raskob, the creator of General Motors, wanted a building that would have been taller than Walter Chrysler s building. When the Empire State Building was being made, there were only two criteria that were needed to be followed during the construction: the first one was that it must resemble a pencil. The second criteria were that it must soar higher than any other structure in the world. Although the building had many setbacks during the construction of it the building ended up finishing 45 days ahead of schedule and on top of that the building ended up being $5 million dollars under budget. People usually associate video games with nerds and adults who stay in the basements of their parent s house. With all these negative associations with video games, it is hard to see that video games can actually be helpful and beneficial to an individual s mental and physical health. The negative associations of video games started from the Video game crash of 1983. The crash led to bankruptcy of numerous companies that were producing computers and video game consoles. Due to the bankruptcy, the majority of the population believed that working for computer companies and video games would be a waste of time since job security was not high. Presently, both computer and video games companies are successful, but the majority of the population still believes the negative aspect of video games. While it was about job security before, the negativity aspect associated with video games has changed. The big negative aspect associated with gaming is that it is a waste of time and can only negatively affect an individual s mental and physical health. While these claims can be true, these claims also focus on individuals who have spent the majority of their time playing video games. I can see Regal s conclusion because there are cases that prove that his points. The increase in obesity is true because individuals are more and more of their time playing video games instead of exercising. People believe it increases aggressive behavior because most action games are usually aggressive, but in reality, individuals with high aggressive behavior are usually the ones who play aggressive action games. Cities have been traditionally seen as the breeding grounds for citizenship, the latter usually framed in terms of dwellers having specific rights, duties, some sort of political participation and frequent interactions with each other. Yet, urbanization can also present many challenges that further disenfranchise and marginalize residents. As the most urbanized region in the world, Latin American cities highlight both of these sceneries. Industrialization and neoliberal economic policies led to the continent s rapid urbanization, introducing large developments but also deeply segregated urban centers, characterised by strong tensions between their formal and informal dimensions. Latin American leaders efforts to tackle this issue have presented both setbacks and opportunities to transform the city into a more integrated space, and set the path to recognize every dwellers right to the city: to be in it, to enjoy it, and to build it. Social differentiation and separation have been frequent characteristics of Latin American cities, in both physical, psychological and cultural terms. As Teresa Caldeira indicates in City of Walls, the pattern of segregation in Latin America traditionally obeyed the center periphery model where the middle and upper classes lived in legalized neighborhood in the center of the cities, while the poor inhabited the mostly illegal precarious fringe. In Socrates final hours we find him surrounded by like minds, pondering what happens to the soul after death, and if death is truly the end or just a new beginning. Those present at the prison include Socrates, Apollodorus, Simmias, Cebes, and Phaedo (2). Socrates explains that in his year of learning and questioning the world around him he has found that everything has a beginning and an end. However, often that end is not an end but a new beginning. Socrates explains this by illustrating how a tall man is the opposite of a short man, yet the tall man had to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. Chivalry Code However, Chaucer not only recognized pride within the hierarchies of the common man, but also recognized the immorality of the knighthood. Knights were usually born into their class and raised to serve their lords, thus decorating them with a sense of nobility and pride (McLean and Signman 18). Because of their role of protection, knights were commanded to adhere to a code of conduct. According to the book, What Life Was Like In the Age of Chivalry, this code of conduct was constructed by the king and enforced the idea of a strict sense of honor, morale, and duty (53). This code of conduct was vital for the morality of the knights and was commonly believed to be a mechanism used to elevate the status of women; however, according to Natalie Demasi, chivalry isn t about women at all. It is a code written for knights, for the men. Chivalry s true purpose was meant to elevate the religious and social status of male knights, not the women. This ... Chaucer was able to recognize the irony within the knighthood and thus produce a tale in which the Knight, haughty in his mindset of his social status, did not realize the unfaithfulness of his own wife. Therefore, I will need to give a good amount of time for the osmosis to occur. o Temperature I believe that all reactions happen quicker when there is a higher temperature, so diffusion across the membrane may be faster at higher temperature. o Concentration of sucrose solution I think that the lower the concentration of the external sucrose solution, the more the chip will expand (because the cells become turgid). o Total Volume of sucrose solution I think that changing the volume of sucrose solution may affect the results of my investigation. This approach focusses on the investigation of the brain, nervous system and other biological factors such as hormones; whereas the main assumption of the cognitive approach is that information received from our senses is processed by the brain and that this processing influences how we behave or at least justifies how we behave the way we do. Cognitive processes are examples of hypothetical constructs researchers cannot directly observe processes such as thinking but we can infer what a person is thinking based on how they act (behavioural patterns). Some key researchers in the biological approach are Maguire et. The territorial dispute over Kashmir led to the First Kashmir War in 1947. This paper attempts to explain this conflict using different levels of analysis. Robert Nozick poses the question of whether it is worth to live life the way it was planned for you or by having the power to pick and choose the experiences you go through by plugging into the experience machine. Before deciding to go into the machine, a person must think about what kind of life is worth living. A life worth living is a life with as little suffering and hardship as possible, where a person can be completely free to chase their dreams. So many people look for a way to escape the pain that life brings and the experience machine offers a way out. There are two main reasons to plug into the experience machine; a person can escape the hardships of life and society s unrealistic expectations about how to live life. Humans go through many hardships over their lifetime. They experience love, loss, heartbreak, pain, work, happiness, sadness, and many more things. People have to struggle through school to work their whole lives until they die. These aspects of human life are used to mark where in the stages of life a person is. To many, these stages define life and what it stands for, but they are not necessary. A person doesn t have to go through loss to have a complete life. They don t have to struggle to make ends meet because that s what life is supposed to be like. they can sidetrack these moments if desired. A person can have a life filled with happiness and no worry of having to get somewhere in life by plugging into the experience machine. The experience machine has the capability of getting rid of the hard things we go through. Instead of going through heartbreak, a person can bypass that by programming the machine to only let them experience love. Instead of working a grueling job that only pays minimum wage, a person can plug into the experience machine to a life where they don t have to work to survive. They can live a life full of happiness, instead of one filled with sadness and hardships. Society places unrealistic expectations of human life.
