Shoemaker Ivy 9 Research Paper
Shoemaker Levy 9(SL9) is a comet . On July 16th, 1994, twenty three years ago now, this comet had
crashed into Jupiter. Although this is when the crash had happened the comet, SL9, had been
discovered a year before it had rammed into Jupiter, on the date of March 24, 1993. Shoemaker Levy
9 s collision with Jupiter had been the first seen on another planet other than our home planet itself,
Earth. This impact that SL9 made on
Jupiter actually lasted around six days and created plumes that were recorded to be
2,000 to 3,000 kilometers high with also increasing the temperature 53,000 to 71,000 degrees
fahrenheit. Shoemaker Levy 9 also left dark rings around Jupiter which were erased by the winds on

The Environmental Hazards Of The United States
A common sight to a visitor on a beach in the U.S. is garbage that has been pitched by another person
or washed up on the beach, after it has been carelessly thrown away. All the carelessly disposed of
trash eventually accumulates, rather it be in one place, such as a landfill, or in many places just
dispersed and spread out, like litter. In 1997, Captain Charles Moore came across a large trash deposit,
while sailing in his boat, Alguita, in the pacific. What he encountered that day could only be described
as a floating continent of trash, which today has names such as trash vortex , plastic soup , and Eastern
Garbage Patch (Friedman 7 10). The mass of trash is still present today and is calculated to be twice
the size of the U.S., weighing in at around 100 million tons of trash (Friedman 7). This garbage patch
is one of the leading growing environmental hazards of the world today. The trash has been linked to
cancer, caused by the toxins released in the water from the plastics, the killing of seabirds, and the
killing of more than a 100,000 marine mammals each year (Friedman 9). This is one of the negative
effects human trash is having on the planet and how people are now turning to recycling to help
resolve problems similar to this. Today people in the U.S. alone produce 245 million tons of trash a
year, which helps contribute to problems like the trash vortex (Lazarus 13). Recycling would help cut
this trash flow significantly, while having other positive effects, if

The International Financial Reporting Standards
There have been plenty of debates surrounding the two type standards; on one side we have the United
States General Accepted Accounting Principle (GAAP) which has always been used until now with
International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). A committee of accountants from the American
Institute of Accountants (AIA) created the first set of US GAAP standards in the 1930s. US GAAP is a
set of guidelines made to help publicly traded companies create their financial statements. The
International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) serves a similar purpose, but has been globally
accepted. European companies first adopted IFRS in 2005, and by 2012 countries such as Japan,
Canada, and India had done the same. Since early 2010, FASB and IASB have been working together
to converge both of these accounting standards. The SEC has been on board, and although they have
not been successful yet, a Work Plan has been developed which lays out factors, which need to be
considered before transitioning into a new reporting system. The main topic for this paper is pension
and how both differ from GAAP and IFRS. In the research, it will mainly geared towards pension plan
and the benefits that differ between the U.S GAAP and IFRS. Through the research the main
information comes from the income statement of the company to identify the difference.

The Ideological Differences Between The USAd The USSR
Breuna Jones
April 24, 2016
The Ideological Differences between the USA and USSR
The main cause for the USA and the USSR to split was their ideological differences. They had many
different views when it came to economics, foreign policy, and civil liberties. These differences in
opinions gave them many reason to dislike one another.
Many ideological differences divided the United States and the Soviet Union. One of the main
ideological differences were capitalist versus communism. The United States were capitalists they
wanted people to be able to have certain freedoms. For example, as freedom of press, election, and
speech. They wanted the people to be able to keep what belonged to them. The United States wanted
free lands. They didn t want them to be controlled by Axis powers (Germany, Hungary, Italy, and
Japan). They also wanted the people to be able to own businesses and have a say in electing rulers.
The USA also believed the government should not interfere with religion or the people s everyday
lives. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Soviet Union were socialist and fascist, they wanted dictatorship. They wanted control of the
press, radio, and cinema so they could integrate their ideas on fascism . The Soviet Union had specific
roles for men and women. This showed when Adolf Hitler began to reign. He began pushing a total
state with only the Aryan race, he the excluded the Jewish people. They no longer could have
citizenship. Jewish people also could not marry or have any relationship with German citizens. This
soon worsened, Jewish businesses were destroyed and many Jews were killed. The Jewish could no
longer visit public buildings. They also could no longer own or work in

Gulf Oil Spill
Gulf Oil Spills Problem Statement Oil Spills are unfortunately a common and traumatic occurrence
when drilling for oil in the ocean. Oil is a fossil fuel used to provide energy. It is drilled from our
oceans, and when a mistake happens it results in oil spills such as the Gulf Shores Oil Spill.
Recommendations Try to work on a safer and more effective way to drill for oil. While also finding
safer and more environmentally friendly forms of energy. Event Sphere Interactions E A During the
spill when the gas is burning there will be a huge amount of carbon dioxide released into the air
through dust and smoke. This smoke causes particles and gasses to enter into the atmosphere. E L The

Compare And Contrast Shopping Online Vs Shopping
As a tool available to a fairly wide public, the internet is only twenty years old, but it is already the
key catalyst of the most extensive and fastest technological revolution in history. The internet, the
single most powerful agent of change in recent history, In the words of Arthur.C Clarke, any
sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic, ( Quotations Page: Quote from
Arthur C. Clarke, n.d.)The rapid pare and reach of the change wrought by the internet indeed has a
touch of magic about them. There are two main ways to go shopping in our daily lives. One is
shopping online; another is shopping at the real shop. As a matter fact, shopping online is a new way
for people to go shopping. Online shopping is better than shopping at the shop in some ways in my
opinion, shopping online has a strong advantage; it helps you save your money in many ways,

Why Student Loan Is The Cost Of Refinancing
Looking to refinance your student loans? Millions of college graduates around the country stayed with
student loans that had annual percentage rates that were too high. When they signed up for these loans,
they weren t worried about paying them off because graduation seemed so far away. Now the time has
finally come to start repayment. Fortunately there are few good ways to ease the sting of paying back
your student loans. What we are looking for when refinancing student loan is a lower APR, or annual
percentage rate. The APR is a percentage of the total amount of money you borrowed that diminishes
as payments are made towards the loan. Another very important thing you must consider when
refinancing your loans is the cost of refinancing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With good choices, student loan refinance can save you a lot of money.
From the time students found that getting loans to complete their education was easy, more and more
students opted to continue their education. Previously there were many people who could not
complete their education because of the lack of fund. But this is not the case these days. However,
once these students get the degree, they leave college with piles of student loans also. There are many
federal and non federal student loans consolidation programs that help them ease and simplify their
repayment plan. Some think that simply by considering the lowest rate of interest they are done and
they will be able to save lot of money. This is not true. Before selecting the student loan consolidation
company, it is good to consider some essential factors. You have to see that all the terms are beneficial
for you and that too in the long run. Avoid looking for short term benefits unless you are in deep and
severe financial crisis. See that there are no charges and penalties for repaying your installments in
advance. Even if you do not have the job right now, consider these points. This is important because in
near future you are going to get the job and then you will prefer paying off all your loans as fast as
possible. When considering non

High Speed Rail ( Hsr )
Abstract High speed rail (HSR) is a rapidly expanding new transport mode all over the world and is
often described as the transport mode of the future . This paper discusses definitions of high speed rail,
provides an overview of high speed rail development in selected other countries and regions. It then
analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of HSR in several different aspects, such as mobility,
choice, environmental, safety, cost and regional feasibility. Based on the opportunities presented by
these features of HSR to learn, the article will provide recommendations and conclusions regarding to
the future development of HSR. Introduction What is High Speed Rail? Although there is no universal
and authoritative speed definition for High Speed Rail (HSR), the threshold can be found in many
administrations or official organizations. For instance, the European Union defines HSR as: Separate
lines built for speeds of 250 kilometers per hour (kph) (150 mph), or Existing lines upgraded to speeds
of 200 kph (125 mph), or Upgraded lines whose speeds are constrained by circumstances such as
topography or urban development. High Speed Rail in the World The world s first high speed rail line,
between Tokyo and Osaka, Japan, was built in time for the 1964 Olympics. Known as the Shinkansen,
or bullet trains, this high speed rail travels across the country at speeds up to 185 mile per hour,
expending the traffic capacity on overcrowded rail lines. Soon After, Italy and

Christianity s Domination Of The Roman Empire
Some may credit Christianity s domination of the Roman Empire to Constantine s Edict of Milan. This
edict was a continuation of the Edict of Galerius, which essentially stated that despite the disapproval
of the Roman government, Christians were allowed to continue worshipping, as long as they prayed
for the well being of the state and allowed the government some control of the magistrates (Knipfing
697). The Edict of Milan furthered this by granting both to Christians and to all men freedom of
choice in following such form of worship as they wish ( The Edict of Milan 1). However, due to
evangelistic practices already in place, the Edict of Galerius and the Edict of Milan was superfluous to
the rise and spread of Christianity. The Edicts of Galerius and Milan were decreed to stop persecution
of the Christians that had lasted since the movement began. Persecution of Christians had begun as
early as the Emperor Nero s rule. Persecution went on automatically, if sporadically...until the third
century (G. E. M. de Ste. Croix, Early Christians 15). Christians were persecuted simply for being
Christians. At the beginning of their movement, many pagan Romans believed all Christians were
incest and cannibals because of the secrecy of their rituals. Once the apologetic works of Augustine
and others were written to defend the Christian practices that were the source of these ideas, the only
claim against someone being a Christian was their questionable loyalty to the state.

The Importance Of Incidents In The Life Of A Slave Girl
The life experience of an African women during slaver time took place in the 1800 s in North Carolina
and is told in the book, Incidents in the Life of a slave girl written by. Harriet Jacobs, whom herself
tells the story of the misfortunes she went through. Her story is important, because we then learn more
about history itself, we learn how people have changed throughout history. Also the importance of
those good hearted people who even though were only a few helped and treated slaves with decency.
In these book it s shown by personal experience what many had to go back at the time which is why it
gives this book a sense of more personal feel. Because it wasn t based on what others said it what

She does a great part in describing the situations when she was helped also does a great
acknowledgment towards those people. She describes how not all the white people in her life were bad
people. A lot of those whom assisted with her escape were both slaves and whites. They helped her
and were there for her despite the fact that of knowing that it was illegal what they were doing. Harriet
Jacobs talks about her friends and writes, They measure a man s worth by his character, not by his
complexion. The memory of those beloved and honored friends will remain with me to my latest hour
(Jacobs 206). In making this comment, Harriet Jacobs is letting us know how thankful she is of these
people who seen beyond the color of the skin. To those who said they were Christian believers and
actually followed the human brotherhood. A matter of action speaks louder than words leaves a great
message here. This novel shows that where there is a will there s a

Double Indemnity by Billy Wilder
Billy Wilder s Double Indemnity is one of the best representatives of the film noir era in Hollywood as
it contains all the main characteristics of the genre. The general darkness present throughout the movie
is embodied in the plot which reveals the moral bankruptcy of the main characters. It is also present in
the mise en scene choices such as the dark costumes and modest lighting with the great emphasis on
shadows. The main character s voice over, another important film noir characteristic, brings this
darkness to life and communicates it to the audience with brutal honesty. One of the scenes of the film
which contains all of these features is the one where the two main characters, Neff and Phyllis, meet
for the first time. This scene will be analysed with respect to the main film noir elements and
techniques that were used in the making of it.
This scene introduces the femme fatale character Phyllis Dietrichson and starts a relationship between
her and Neff a relationship which sets out the plot for rest of the film. The scene focuses on Phyllis
use of sexual appeal to gain control over Neff and try to use him to fulfil her twisted of murdering her
husband. Wilder uses several filming elements characteristic to film noir in the scene in order to
display the nature of Neff and Phyllis relationship from the very moment they met.
The scene starts with a bright shot set outdoors as Neff is heading to Mr. Dietrichson s house a shot
uncharacteristic to film noir

What Is The Relationship Between The Bolshevik And Mensheviks
The Bolsheviks (lit. one for the majority ) were a Russian political party that was founded in 1903 by
Vladimir Lenin and Alexander Bogdanov, when they split away from the Menshevik (lit. one for the
minority ) faction under the Marxist Russian Social Democratic Labour Party. By 1905, the
Bolsheviks were no longer a minor faction, but one that had over 8,400 members. This number
increased to 46,000 by 1910, a time where the Mensheviks had only 38,000. The Bolsheviks and
Mensheviks continued to both gain and lose the majority in their parent party, and in 1910, they were
forced to band together due to their loss of numbers and pressure from the Tzar, even though Lenin
was strongly against the idea. Then, in 1912, the Bolsheviks broke away

The Importance Of Selfishness In Literature
Selfishness is defined as the act of being someone who lacks concern for others, only caring for
personal gain. Often, people are selfish due to a lack of empathy, misinformation, or a lack of
information. The ability of literature to have us experience different worlds through different
perspectives is fairly useful for combating this. In fact, literature can shock us about the idea of
selfishness and give us pause and new insights into it, if not necessarily cause us to realize our own
lack of selflessness and shock us out of it.
Literature is able to influence what we believe about the world. It is a very well known and well
documented phenomenon. Several studies and anecdotes have shown that people form a worldview

For instance, the 5th paragraph:
I want a wife who will not bother me with rambling complaints about a wife s duties. But I want a
wife who will listen to me when I feel the need to explain a rather difficult point I have come across in
my course of studies. And I want a wife who will type my papers for me when I have written them.
(Judy 5)
The entire article has this mockingly serious tone throughout, done in order to make it so that the
reader ponders about the mindset of a person who performs this blatant exploitation. This paragraph,
along with the rest of the article, shows just how utterly selfish the idea of the ideal wife is through its
use of a blunt voice and the author purposefully writing it as if it had a lack of irony and self
awareness. When I read this, I could tell exactly what she was talking about. She caused me to think
about a form of selfishness that exists in the world.
Additionally, what people read influences how they perceive the world. In turn, this influences what
and to whom they like and are sympathetic towards. I once needed to write a nonfiction essay for a
school assignment, and I choose to write about video games, specifically about their artistic potential
and about esports. I choose that subject since I love video games, and have amassed a wealth of

Critical Analysis Of A Good Man Is Hard To Find By...
Flannery O Connor was often shocked to find how people interpreted her stories. Some readers of A
Good Man is Hard to Find believed the grandmother was evil, even a witch. Soon O Connor set out,
quite explicitly, in letters and lectures to detail the theology of the story and the importance of the
grandmother as an agent of grace. In a letter to John Hawkes, she explained how violence and grace
come together: More than in the Devil I am interested in the indication of Grace, the moment when
you know that Grace has been offered and accepted such as the moment when the Grandmother
realizes the Misfit is one of her own children. These moments are prepared for (by me anyway) by the
intensity of the evil circumstances. When O Connor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Generally O Connor chalked up all the misreadings and confusion to the spiritual shortcomings of the
modern reader: Today s audience is one in which religious feeling has become, if not atrophied, at
least vaporous and sentimental. But the discrepancies between how O Connor is often read and how
she claimed she should be read cannot simply be explained by her theology of grace or by the lack of
religious feeling among readers. Critical opinion over the years has tended to line up behind O Connor
s own explanations; however, O Connor s analysis of A Good Man Is Hard to Find still seems baffling
and occasionally a critic has questioned the theology of the fiction. Andre Bleikasten, focusing on O
Connor s novels, claimed that the truth of O Connor s work is the truth of her art, not that of her
church. Her fiction does refer to an implicit theology, but if we rely, as we should, on its testimony
rather than on the author s comments, we shall have to admit that the Catholic orthodoxy of her work
is at least debatable And Frederick Asals recalls D. H. Lawrence s advice that a reader should trust the
tale and not the teller. Of A Good Man Is Hard to Find, Asals claims: BLOCK QUOTE One can easily

Chapter 1: INTRODUCTION
Capital market is now playing a strategic role in a country s economic growth. It facilitates the
exchange of funds between company as demander and investor as supplier. The existence of capital
market enables company to obtain an alternative source of fund. On the other hands, it gives flexibility
for investor to choose investment based on their preference. For both company and investor who are
involved in the capital market, understanding about capital market condition becomes matter in order
to understand how the market is actually works. One aspect of capital market conditions that might
become consideration before deciding to invest is the market efficiency. The term of market efficiency,
which is found in the capital market literature, is used to elaborate the relationship between the
information and the share price. In 1970, Fama proposed the Efficient Market Theory and defined
capital market efficiency as the market in which prices fully reflect all available information.

The Perfect Examples Of Human Nature In Sir Gawain And The...
Humans are not perfect! Sir Gawain the great knight had flaws and showed many human qualities.
Even King Arthur had his flaws and made bad decisions. Guinevere is also not perfect as she gets
tempted by Lancelot. Humans also love, hate, and can be evil or good. The story of Sir Gawain and
the Green Knight is the perfect example of human nature helping and hurting outcomes. For example,
Sir Gawain is Arthur s nephew and friend and knows that Arthur s life is simply more important to the
Kingdom than his. Sir Gawain steps up to the Green Knight and possibly saves Arthur s life. Sir
Gawain cares about Arthur and it is in human nature to protect others we care for. This story also
shows the flaws of human nature, which there are many. Sir Gawain has been on his journey and
comes across a large castle and goes in, which is fine. Then it goes south when he is confronted by a
Lady, which we later find out is Morgan Le Fay. Sir Gawain has learned chivalry his whole
knighthood and tries to comfort the Lady, the Lady wants a kiss and Sir Gawain knows this would
break his vows, but gets tempted and lets the Lady give him one kiss. That night passes and the next
day Sir Gawain is tempted yet again by the Lady, the Lady and Sir Gawain argue, but ultimately the
result is two kisses from the Lady. The next day Sir Gawain is tempted once again and takes a girdle
from the lady. On the topic of temptation, Guinevere is tempted by Lancelot. Guinevere temptation is
especially wrong due to the fact she is married to King Arthur! Sir Gawain finally moves on from the
castle and goes to the Green chapel, which happens to be a mound. He gets there, and is admittedly
scared, but ready to die. The Green knight goes to strike Sir Gawain with his axe, but does not. The
Green knight notices Sir Gawain flinches and begins to mock him. Sir Gawain proceeds to tell the
Green knight that he will not be able to pick up his head like the Green knight did. The Green Knight
goes to strike Sir Gawain a second time and Sir Gawain does not flinch this time. Sir Gawain is ready
to die now after the first flinch. The Green knight then went to strike Sir Gawain a third time and he
began to get frustrated, the Green knight began to talk with Sir

deliberately or negligently by a single person or an entity (Crane). The history of tort law can be
traced back to the initial trespass of property or person, but it was not until the 18th century that the
distinction between intentional and unintentional acts was made (Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia).
In recent years, tort law has become the center of scrutiny through the increase in tort costs, insurance
liability costs, and the number of frivolous lawsuits made. This scrutiny has lead to the creation of tort
reform. Tort reform is a movement to reshape the way consumers can access the courts by restricting
their right to sue and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They also claim that tort reform bills are giving unprecedented immunity to certain industries and that
this type of bill in unconstitutional. Another key counter argument made by the opposition is the
denial of the existence of litigation explosion that the advocates have presented. They show that from
1993, instead of seeing the increase claimed by the advocates, there has actually been a decrease of
tort filings by 5%. They also further there counter argument by showing that the numbers of civil trials
have dropped by 47% during the same time frame (ATLA). Though these arguments are mainly
presented to counter and invalidate the advocates of tort reformation, the opponents have also
presented other unique arguments in opposition of tort reform. One strong argument that the
opponents have put forth to the public is the argument that corporations and insurance companies are
the worst abusers of the litigations system and setting forth new regulations that would protect them
from excessive litigation would just be another benefit. These corporations are using their vast
resources to unfairly delay trials, pursue frivolous appeals, and contest claims in which liability is
clear. This reasoning supports the opposition as there have been suggestions of tort reform where the
loser pays (Wikipedia). If a reformation such as this one was passed into the system, then private
citizens would be afraid to sue the

Swarm Robotics Literature Review
Literature review
Nowadays, along with the development of the world, people now want to do much more complicated
work. In order to handle these prolems, the systems of robot have een developed. Just like human,
robots are always better when they work as a group, this is when the communication and coordination
algorithms need to be applied. To have a better look about this systems, we need to understand clearly
the term Swarm Robotics .
Defining swarm robotics
Şahin (2005, p.1) defined swarm robotics as a novel approach to the coordination of large numbers of
robots. By simulating some properties of natural systems, this method is used to control a large
number of similar robots to do complicated tasks that an individual robot cannot.
There are three properties that define swarm robotics and separate it from other multi robot systems
(Şahin, 2005). A swarm robotic system must be robust, which means that if any robot in the system
stops functioning, the rest of the system still continues to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, due to large number of robots, and various environments that the group of robots may
operate in, as well as changes in the number of robots in a group for different tasks, developing an
effective algorithm for swarm robotics systems seems to be a great challenge. Stirling and Floreano
(2010) proposed a system in which some robots act as communication relays, while other robots
operate as normal troops. This method used no or low bandwidth communication, and showed good
scalability performance. However, the use of this methods is only limited to small area operation, as
the range between communication relays and the robots are limited. Wireless LAN is a solution to this
limitation, as it support long range as well as high bandwidth communication, however this is proved
to be a costly solution, as every robot in the system must have a WLAN module to support this
method (Brambilla et al.,

Police Misconduct and Police Brutality
We hear about police misconduct case and wonder, Why don t they do anything to stop this? Many say
that we should keep the police officers perspective in mind. Others say that these actions are due to
racism or post 9/11 paranoia. Whatever the excuse may be for these cases, there should be no need for
violence anywhere. Police brutality videos go viral and reveal to the world that it actually happens and
that it may happen to you too. This pervades people with fear and anger because their civil right are
being violated. Riots are the outcome making the streets unsafe and chaotic. Statistics show

Due to the actions that are not being taken to put a stop to this brutality, citizens begin riots, releasing
their anger toward the government. Justice isn t being served and that surely baffles me and any other
person who is against this criminal act done by those who are supposed to stop it. The effects that
police brutality leave on their victims is paranoia and the feeling of not being safe due to those are
supposed to protect from the danger are the ones causing danger. Cops try getting away with it, try to
hide evidence, don t tell the whole story just to protect themselves and make us think about how well
the system is and if it really is just. You can forget about justice when police, government agents, who
are supposed to protect us assault, kill, harass, and discriminate the community. Their actions frighten
us which make us feel antithetical to what we are supposed to feel when a police officer is around.
That is why in some cases where the victim was at gunpoint, they were afraid to act or make a sudden
move thinking they were going to be shot. Hearing the real life stories about these types of cases fill
us with fear and uncertainty to trust a police officer. People have dedicated their time to gather
information about the statistics on police brutality from April 2009 to June 2010. In between those two

Dbq Cuban Missile Crisis
Justified, righteous, fair, and reasonable. Alike in definition, these words can all be used to describe
the installation of Soviet missiles in Cuba. America had tried to invade Cuba and overthrow Fidel
Castro on numerous occasions, the Soviets who were allies with Cuba decided it was time to step in
and support their comrades. In October 1962, a two week matter took place, after an American spy
plane found 40 nuclear missiles installed by the Soviets, in Cuba, the event later became known as the
Cuban Missile Crisis. The Americans did not approve of these Soviet missiles, because they were 90
miles away from their country, but Khrushchev was not satisfied with the U.S. having missiles pointed
at his country either. This led to a small dispute ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First off, the U.S planned an attack called the Bay of Pigs, which was one of their tactics to invade
Cuba and overthrow Fidel Castro. Their plan was to train exiled Cubans so that they could be sent to
Cuba in effort to overthrow Castro. ( The Bay of Pigs ).The installation of missiles were to further
prevent any events like this of happening, so it gave the USSR every reason to continue to defend their
ally who was being attacked. On top of that, the Soviets did not even retort in aggression, even though
it would have been reasonable if they did. Why could they have not placed missiles in Cuba if they
decided to not retaliate in violence? Months later, America scheduled Operation Mongoose yet another
tactic to kill Castro. They attempted to have Castro removed, overthrown, and out of office in Cuba,
but did not succeed ( The Bay of Pigs Invasion and Its Aftermath ). After the second time America
tried to overthrow Castro it definitely justified the Soviet storing of missiles. The saying The first time
is a mistake, but the second time is a choice, applies to this situation. Cuba being attacked by the
Americans the first time was kind of like the mistake in the saying but the second attempt of invasion
can be compared to the choice in the saying. The final quote that proves the Soviet missiles were
defensive comes from Khrushchev, we were very grieved...that an attack on Cuba was committed, as a
result of which many Cubans perished. You yourself told me then that this had been a mistake. I
respected that explanation (Khrushchev). A summary of Khrushchev s word is that he responded
kindly to the attempted attacks and did not try to overrun America after their acts of violence, even
though he had the option to do so. The USSR was very fair and calm and reacted well to

The Apology By Plato And Tao Te Ching
Many decisions involve a considerable amount of contemplation and reasoning. These decisions
include the ethical dilemmas we encounter every day on an individual and global scale, such as
contemplating whether capital punishment is just or unjust. Ethics is often confused with factors that
are not cohesive with our true self but that are induced from society. Ethics is not feelings, religion,
science, or following the law and cultural norm. Ethics is, however, a set of moral behaviors that tell
us what is right and wrong in different situations. Through writings such as The Apology by Plato and
Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu we are can more clearly get a picture of what it means to be ethical and how
to respond to ethical dilemmas. In Plato s The Apology, Socrates supports the fairness and justice
ethical approach by recognizing that all equals must be treated equally. Socrates went in search of
politicians, poets, and craftsmen; all people claiming to have a higher status and greater intelligence
because of their skills. However, through cross examination he found that these men were not superior
to the common man. In fact, he realized that believing one has a specialized type of knowledge
actually limits human wisdom. We must realize that one person is not superior to another simply
because of their occupation, education, race, or gender. No two people are the same; the politicians,
poets, craftsmen, and the common man are all very different, but nonetheless, they

It is easy to say that species are constantly changing,...
It is easy to say that species are constantly changing, and branching off into totally new species. But
how do we know where the species originate? Phylogenies help to show us how all kinds of species
are related to each other, and why. These relationships are put into what can be called a cladogram,
which links species to common ancestors, in turn showing where, when, how, and why these ancestors
diverged to form new species. Without phylogenies, it would be extremely difficult to put species in
specific categories or relate them to one another. Along with phylogenies can come conflict on which
species should be related to one another. This conflict causes many hypotheses and experiments,
which can lead to phylogenetic retrofitting, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The parareptile hypothesis is taken back at least two decades. It has recently been rediscovered and
contradicted by parsimony. Bayesian inferences support this parareptile conclusion, but parsimony
concludes the idea of turtles being a sister group to pareiasaurs, which is an anapsid group, including
Eunotosaurus. To test these hypothesis, a multitude of data is compiled to observe the stability behind
the inferences made. In this article, one main experiment was discussed through the collection and
analysis of two retrofitted matrices, phylogenetic analyses, and molecular scaffolds. In one matrice,
Eunotosaurus was added to a diapsid focused data set, while turtles were added to an anapsid focused
data set. The diapsid sets included a broad sampling of diapsids, which placed turtles as sisters to
sauropterygians. The anapsid set, on the other hand, included a broad sampling of anapsids, especially
parareptiles. Turtles were not included in the anapsid set. When the experiment moves on to the
phylogenetic analysis, Bayesian inferences and parsimony were brought into the mix. After these
analyses, the experiment finally includes molecular scaffolding. The effect of molecular scaffolding
was to see where extant linneages interact with molecular phylogenies. The, the Bayesian and
parsimony analyses were again repeated with these backbone constraints while everything else is

To begin, it is really dangerous for the astronauts. In Trip To Mars Could Damage Astronaut s Brain it

Giant pandas are among the rarest mammals in the world. There are probably less than 1,000 left in
the wild. Although adult giant pandas have few natural enemies, the young are sometimes preyed upon
by leopards. Habitat encroachment and destruction are the greatest threats to the continued existence
of the giant panda. This is mainly because of the demand for land and natural resources by China s 1
billion inhabitants. To offset this situation, the Chinese government has set aside 11 nature preserves
where bamboo flourishes and giant pandas are known to live.
Giant pandas are being poached, because their dense fur carries a high price in illegal markets in the
Far East. The Chinese government has imposed life sentences for those convicted of poaching giant
pandas. The low reproductive capacity of the giant panda makes it more vulnerable to these threats,
and less capable of rebounding from its low numbers. In 1984, due to its decreasing numbers, the U.S.
Fish and Wildlife Service listed the giant panda as an endangered species under the Endangered
Species Act. This means it is considered in danger of extinction throughout all of its range.
This protection also prohibits giant pandas from being imported into the U.S. except under certain
conditions. What you can do to help: Join WWF (World Wildlife Foundation) and help

Examples Of Richard Nixon Inaugural Speech
World Unity Creates a World of Peace
Every president has a specific vision on how to influence America with their policies. Being the only
president to resign from the presidency makes one wonder what did Nixon want to accomplish as
president. During, every president s first term, they have to figure out how to navigate the office. The
inaugural speech, usually, gives the American people an idea of what the president plans to do, for
America. As president, Nixon accomplished many things and strived to fulfil the promises in his
inaugural speech.
The greatest honor history can bestow is the title of peacemaker a quote from Richard Nixon s
inaugural address. Peace and unity were the main points of the speech. Nixon focused on creating
international peace, with all nations, as well as peace within America. Nixon felt that unity was the
only way for people to live on Earth. Not only was peace a huge factor in Nixon s speech, benefits for
American citizens was important to him, as well. Although, Nixon never stated how he planned to
accomplish things, he did clearly state that he wanted to improve healthcare, education and attain
better housing. Overall, this speech was a beacon of hope for the American people to look forward to.
Nixon was one of the few presidents who have had a second term. Therefore, Nixon had more than
one inaugural speech. Nixon s second speech was very similar to the first speech. Instead, of focusing
on how to be at peace, Nixon assured, the country, that everything was serene and we needed to
maintain it. A person can be expected to act responsibly only if he has responsibility , a quote from
Nixon s second speech. Almost, an ironic statement when Nixon, initially, avoid responsibility for his
crimes. With that being said, Nixon informed Americans that they should be more responsible for
themselves and depend less on the government. More personal responsibility would better America, in
Nixon s eyes. Similarly, to the first speech, Nixon does not state any plans, but this speech was less
inspiring. Unlike, the first speech, this second speech seemed to be a call to action for the American
people.
Obviously, the first and the thirty seventh president had very different priorities

Similar to the majority of living organisms, bacteria are able to adapt and change depending on their
environment. Contrary to other larger living organisms such as humans, bacteria are able to transform
and multiply at a more rapid pace, allowing these microorganisms to evolve and become resistant to
medications that are commonly used to treat them such as antibiotics. These altered bacteria are
oftentimes referred to as super bugs as they are unaffected by typical treatments involving the use of

William Wordsworth And The Creation Of The Romantic Movement
William Wordsworth and the Creation of the Romantic Movement William Wordsworth (7 April 1770
23 April 1850) was a English Romantic poet. Wordsworth s earliest poetry was published in 1793 in
the collections An Evening Walk and Descriptive Sketches. In 1795 he met Samuel Coleridge
(Encyclopedia.com), and produced Lyrical Ballads first published in 1978, it is largely credited as the
work that begain the English Romantic movement. In the third edition of Lyrical Ballads published in
1802 the Preface to Lyrical Ballads was added to the poems and on page 242, Wordsworth gave his
now famous poetry definition as being the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its
origin from emotion recollected in tranquility . In 1798 The Prelude, perhaps one of the greatest works
of English literature was first published. It is a long autobiographical poem that is a personal history of
the growth of Wordsworth s own mind. It was a constant work in progress, with Wordsworth working
on it until his death in 1850. Lyrical Ballads published in 1798 is considered to be the fist mark of the
English Romantic movement in literature. The Romantic period of literature, covered from about 1798
to 1832 and emphasizes nature, imagination, and the move from strictly scientific knowledge to the
knowledge of experience (A Guide to the Study of Literature). According to the International Journal

The Theory Of An Organization
Organizations are groups of people working together to achieve a common goal. The organizations
theories correlate together in order for organizations to sustain functionality. In all organizations there
is a common unit of power that directs the organization toward a common goal. Within the
Department of Health and Human Resources, the source of power is the commissioner, and the
direction of the department is to have zero child fatalities and maintain safety of children.
The classical model focuses on the structure of the organization. The decision making starts at the top,
with the person in power and trickles down to the employees in the organizations. Hence, the person
in power has the authority and decision making capability. This is also known as bureaucracy, which
occurs within a government institution such as; when meetings occur, the commissioner will make the
final decisions about goals and how to implement those goals. All organizations recognize that
decisions have to be made. The decision theory is similar to the classical model in how decisions are
made and who makes the decisions. The person in power makes the decision, and the ultimate
outcome is to achieve a common goal. Decisions are made on rationale when possible, but achieving a
perfect goal is not the ultimate goal. When conflict occurs it is embraced, and organization work to
accommodate or even coerce members to achieve common goals. Human relations theory is derived
from the machine

Although this is when the crash had happened the comet, SL9, had been discovered a year before it had rammed into Jupiter, on the date of March 24, 1993. Shoemaker Levy 9 s collision with Jupiter had been the first seen on another planet other than our home planet itself, Earth. This impact that SL9 made on Jupiter actually lasted around six days and created plumes that were recorded to be 2,000 to 3,000 kilometers high with also increasing the temperature 53,000 to 71,000 degrees fahrenheit. • 3. The Environmental Hazards Of The United States A common sight to a visitor on a beach in the U.S. is garbage that has been pitched by another person or washed up on the beach, after it has been carelessly thrown away. All the carelessly disposed of trash eventually accumulates, rather it be in one place, such as a landfill, or in many places just dispersed and spread out, like litter. In 1997, Captain Charles Moore came across a large trash deposit, while sailing in his boat, Alguita, in the pacific. What he encountered that day could only be described as a floating continent of trash, which today has names such as trash vortex , plastic soup , and Eastern Garbage Patch (Friedman 7 10). The mass of trash is still present today and is calculated to be twice the size of the U.S., weighing in at around 100 million tons of trash (Friedman 7). This garbage patch is one of the leading growing environmental hazards of the world today. The trash has been linked to cancer, caused by the toxins released in the water from the plastics, the killing of seabirds, and the killing of more than a 100,000 marine mammals each year (Friedman 9). This is one of the negative effects human trash is having on the planet and how people are now turning to recycling to help resolve problems similar to this. Today people in the U.S. alone produce 245 million tons of trash a year, which helps contribute to problems like the trash vortex (Lazarus 13). Recycling would help cut this trash flow significantly, while having other positive effects, if ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The International Financial Reporting Standards There have been plenty of debates surrounding the two type standards; on one side we have the United States General Accepted Accounting Principle (GAAP) which has always been used until now with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). A committee of accountants from the American Institute of Accountants (AIA) created the first set of US GAAP standards in the 1930s. US GAAP is a set of guidelines made to help publicly traded companies create their financial statements. The International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) serves a similar purpose, but has been globally accepted. European companies first adopted IFRS in 2005, and by 2012 countries such as Japan, Canada, and India had done the same. Since early 2010, FASB and IASB have been working together to converge both of these accounting standards. The SEC has been on board, and although they have not been successful yet, a Work Plan has been developed which lays out factors, which need to be considered before transitioning into a new reporting system. The main topic for this paper is pension and how both differ from GAAP and IFRS. In the research, it will mainly geared towards pension plan and the benefits that differ between the U.S GAAP and IFRS. Through the research the main information comes from the income statement of the company to identify the difference. The Ideological Differences Between The USAd The USSR Breuna Jones April 24, 2016 The Ideological Differences between the USA and USSR The main cause for the USA and the USSR to split was their ideological differences. They had many different views when it came to economics, foreign policy, and civil liberties. These differences in opinions gave them many reason to dislike one another. Many ideological differences divided the United States and the Soviet Union. One of the main ideological differences were capitalist versus communism. The United States were capitalists they wanted people to be able to have certain freedoms. For example, as freedom of press, election, and speech. They wanted the people to be able to keep what belonged to them. The United States wanted free lands. They didn t want them to be controlled by Axis powers (Germany, Hungary, Italy, and Japan). • 10. Christianity s Domination Of The Roman Empire Some may credit Christianity s domination of the Roman Empire to Constantine s Edict of Milan. This edict was a continuation of the Edict of Galerius, which essentially stated that despite the disapproval of the Roman government, Christians were allowed to continue worshipping, as long as they prayed for the well being of the state and allowed the government some control of the magistrates (Knipfing 697). The Edict of Milan furthered this by granting both to Christians and to all men freedom of choice in following such form of worship as they wish ( The Edict of Milan 1). However, due to evangelistic practices already in place, the Edict of Galerius and the Edict of Milan was superfluous to the rise and spread of Christianity. The Edicts of Galerius and Milan were decreed to stop persecution of the Christians that had lasted since the movement began. Persecution of Christians had begun as early as the Emperor Nero s rule. Persecution went on automatically, if sporadically...until the third century (G. E. M. de Ste. Croix, Early Christians 15). Christians were persecuted simply for being Christians. At the beginning of their movement, many pagan Romans believed all Christians were incest and cannibals because of the secrecy of their rituals. Once the apologetic works of Augustine and others were written to defend the Christian practices that were the source of these ideas, the only claim against someone being a Christian was their questionable loyalty to the state. ... • 12. Double Indemnity by Billy Wilder Billy Wilder s Double Indemnity is one of the best representatives of the film noir era in Hollywood as it contains all the main characteristics of the genre. The general darkness present throughout the movie is embodied in the plot which reveals the moral bankruptcy of the main characters. It is also present in the mise en scene choices such as the dark costumes and modest lighting with the great emphasis on shadows. The main character s voice over, another important film noir characteristic, brings this darkness to life and communicates it to the audience with brutal honesty. One of the scenes of the film which contains all of these features is the one where the two main characters, Neff and Phyllis, meet for the first time. This scene will be analysed with respect to the main film noir elements and techniques that were used in the making of it. This scene introduces the femme fatale character Phyllis Dietrichson and starts a relationship between her and Neff a relationship which sets out the plot for rest of the film. The scene focuses on Phyllis use of sexual appeal to gain control over Neff and try to use him to fulfil her twisted of murdering her husband. Wilder uses several filming elements characteristic to film noir in the scene in order to display the nature of Neff and Phyllis relationship from the very moment they met. What Is The Relationship Between The Bolshevik And Mensheviks The Bolsheviks (lit. one for the majority ) were a Russian political party that was founded in 1903 by Vladimir Lenin and Alexander Bogdanov, when they split away from the Menshevik (lit. one for the minority ) faction under the Marxist Russian Social Democratic Labour Party. By 1905, the Bolsheviks were no longer a minor faction, but one that had over 8,400 members. This number increased to 46,000 by 1910, a time where the Mensheviks had only 38,000. The Bolsheviks and Mensheviks continued to both gain and lose the majority in their parent party, and in 1910, they were forced to band together due to their loss of numbers and pressure from the Tzar, even though Lenin was strongly against the idea. • 14. The Importance Of Selfishness In Literature Selfishness is defined as the act of being someone who lacks concern for others, only caring for personal gain. Often, people are selfish due to a lack of empathy, misinformation, or a lack of information. The ability of literature to have us experience different worlds through different perspectives is fairly useful for combating this. In fact, literature can shock us about the idea of selfishness and give us pause and new insights into it, if not necessarily cause us to realize our own lack of selflessness and shock us out of it. But I want a wife who will listen to me when I feel the need to explain a rather difficult point I have come across in my course of studies. And I want a wife who will type my papers for me when I have written them. (Judy 5) The entire article has this mockingly serious tone throughout, done in order to make it so that the reader ponders about the mindset of a person who performs this blatant exploitation. This paragraph, along with the rest of the article, shows just how utterly selfish the idea of the ideal wife is through its use of a blunt voice and the author purposefully writing it as if it had a lack of irony and self awareness. When I read this, I could tell exactly what she was talking about. She caused me to think about a form of selfishness that exists in the world. Additionally, what people read influences how they perceive the world. In turn, this influences what and to whom they like and are sympathetic towards. • 15. Critical Analysis Of A Good Man Is Hard To Find By... Flannery O Connor was often shocked to find how people interpreted her stories. Some readers of A Good Man is Hard to Find believed the grandmother was evil, even a witch. Soon O Connor set out, quite explicitly, in letters and lectures to detail the theology of the story and the importance of the grandmother as an agent of grace. In a letter to John Hawkes, she explained how violence and grace come together: More than in the Devil I am interested in the indication of Grace, the moment when you know that Grace has been offered and accepted such as the moment when the Grandmother realizes the Misfit is one of her own children. These moments are prepared for (by me anyway) by the intensity of the evil circumstances. When O Connor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Generally O Connor chalked up all the misreadings and confusion to the spiritual shortcomings of the modern reader: Today s audience is one in which religious feeling has become, if not atrophied, at least vaporous and sentimental. But the discrepancies between how O Connor is often read and how she claimed she should be read cannot simply be explained by her theology of grace or by the lack of religious feeling among readers. Critical opinion over the years has tended to line up behind O Connor s own explanations; however, O Connor s analysis of A Good Man Is Hard to Find still seems baffling and occasionally a critic has questioned the theology of the fiction. Andre Bleikasten, focusing on O Connor s novels, claimed that the truth of O Connor s work is the truth of her art, not that of her church. Her fiction does refer to an implicit theology, but if we rely, as we should, on its testimony rather than on the author s comments, we shall have to admit that the Catholic orthodoxy of her work is at least debatable And Frederick Asals recalls D. H. Lawrence s advice that a reader should trust the tale and not the teller. The declines might be attributed to economic environmental factors, threat of terrorism and high oil prices which drive the market industry. 1) Recommendations for Moderate and Optimistic Scenarios. E Trade business strategy has been soundly running as achieving significant improvement in ROE over the three time periods. Under the optimistic scenario, we observe the possibility of having benefits the demanding environment conditions; especially, more people will be getting into trading securities as the Internet has opened up the field of investment. Even King Arthur had his flaws and made bad decisions. Guinevere is also not perfect as she gets tempted by Lancelot. Humans also love, hate, and can be evil or good. The story of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is the perfect example of human nature helping and hurting outcomes. For example, Sir Gawain is Arthur s nephew and friend and knows that Arthur s life is simply more important to the Kingdom than his. Sir Gawain steps up to the Green Knight and possibly saves Arthur s life. Sir Gawain cares about Arthur and it is in human nature to protect others we care for. This story also shows the flaws of human nature, which there are many. Sir Gawain has been on his journey and comes across a large castle and goes in, which is fine. Then it goes south when he is confronted by a Lady, which we later find out is Morgan Le Fay. Sir Gawain has learned chivalry his whole knighthood and tries to comfort the Lady, the Lady wants a kiss and Sir Gawain knows this would break his vows, but gets tempted and lets the Lady give him one kiss. That night passes and the next day Sir Gawain is tempted yet again by the Lady, the Lady and Sir Gawain argue, but ultimately the result is two kisses from the Lady. The next day Sir Gawain is tempted once again and takes a girdle from the lady. On the topic of temptation, Guinevere is tempted by Lancelot. Guinevere temptation is especially wrong due to the fact she is married to King Arthur! Sir Gawain finally moves on from the castle and goes to the Green chapel, which happens to be a mound. He gets there, and is admittedly scared, but ready to die. The Green knight goes to strike Sir Gawain with his axe, but does not. The Green knight notices Sir Gawain flinches and begins to mock him. Sir Gawain proceeds to tell the Green knight that he will not be able to pick up his head like the Green knight did. The Green Knight goes to strike Sir Gawain a second time and Sir Gawain does not flinch this time. Sir Gawain is ready to die now after the first flinch. The history of tort law can be traced back to the initial trespass of property or person, but it was not until the 18th century that the distinction between intentional and unintentional acts was made (Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia). In recent years, tort law has become the center of scrutiny through the increase in tort costs, insurance liability costs, and the number of frivolous lawsuits made. They also further there counter argument by showing that the numbers of civil trials have dropped by 47% during the same time frame (ATLA). Though these arguments are mainly presented to counter and invalidate the advocates of tort reformation, the opponents have also presented other unique arguments in opposition of tort reform. One strong argument that the opponents have put forth to the public is the argument that corporations and insurance companies are the worst abusers of the litigations system and setting forth new regulations that would protect them from excessive litigation would just be another benefit. These corporations are using their vast resources to unfairly delay trials, pursue frivolous appeals, and contest claims in which liability is clear. In order to handle these prolems, the systems of robot have een developed. Just like human, robots are always better when they work as a group, this is when the communication and coordination algorithms need to be applied. To have a better look about this systems, we need to understand clearly the term Swarm Robotics . Defining swarm robotics Şahin (2005, p.1) defined swarm robotics as a novel approach to the coordination of large numbers of robots. By simulating some properties of natural systems, this method is used to control a large number of similar robots to do complicated tasks that an individual robot cannot. America had tried to invade Cuba and overthrow Fidel Castro on numerous occasions, the Soviets who were allies with Cuba decided it was time to step in and support their comrades. In October 1962, a two week matter took place, after an American spy plane found 40 nuclear missiles installed by the Soviets, in Cuba, the event later became known as the Cuban Missile Crisis. First off, the U.S planned an attack called the Bay of Pigs, which was one of their tactics to invade Cuba and overthrow Fidel Castro. Their plan was to train exiled Cubans so that they could be sent to Cuba in effort to overthrow Castro. ( The Bay of Pigs ).The installation of missiles were to further prevent any events like this of happening, so it gave the USSR every reason to continue to defend their ally who was being attacked. On top of that, the Soviets did not even retort in aggression, even though it would have been reasonable if they did. Why could they have not placed missiles in Cuba if they decided to not retaliate in violence? Months later, America scheduled Operation Mongoose yet another tactic to kill Castro. They attempted to have Castro removed, overthrown, and out of office in Cuba, but did not succeed ( The Bay of Pigs Invasion and Its Aftermath ). After the second time America tried to overthrow Castro it definitely justified the Soviet storing of missiles. • 26. The Apology By Plato And Tao Te Ching Many decisions involve a considerable amount of contemplation and reasoning. These decisions include the ethical dilemmas we encounter every day on an individual and global scale, such as contemplating whether capital punishment is just or unjust. Ethics is often confused with factors that are not cohesive with our true self but that are induced from society. Ethics is not feelings, religion, science, or following the law and cultural norm. Ethics is, however, a set of moral behaviors that tell us what is right and wrong in different situations. Through writings such as The Apology by Plato and Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu we are can more clearly get a picture of what it means to be ethical and how to respond to ethical dilemmas. In Plato s The Apology, Socrates supports the fairness and justice ethical approach by recognizing that all equals must be treated equally. Socrates went in search of politicians, poets, and craftsmen; all people claiming to have a higher status and greater intelligence because of their skills. However, through cross examination he found that these men were not superior to the common man. In fact, he realized that believing one has a specialized type of knowledge actually limits human wisdom. But how do we know where the species originate? Phylogenies help to show us how all kinds of species are related to each other, and why. These relationships are put into what can be called a cladogram, which links species to common ancestors, in turn showing where, when, how, and why these ancestors diverged to form new species. Without phylogenies, it would be extremely difficult to put species in specific categories or relate them to one another. To test these hypothesis, a multitude of data is compiled to observe the stability behind the inferences made. This is also known as bureaucracy, which occurs within a government institution such as; when meetings occur, the commissioner will make the final decisions about goals and how to implement those goals.
