My Graduate Career At Mount Holyoke College
During my undergraduate career at Mount Holyoke College, I have taken an array of courses; with
topics ranging from GIS to geomorphology to a field course that involves a ten day trip to Death
Valley National Park in California. My multidisciplinary knowledge of the geosciences granted me the
privilege to join a research project with a fellow student and her advisor, Professor Alan Werner.
Conducted through Harvard Forest, her project assesses the change in stratigraphy within sediment
cores in Marblehead, Massachusetts. I am responsible for using her previously gathered XRF scanner
data to determine the paleoclimate immediately following the glacial maximum about 14,000 years
ago. I also have access to data showing the core s magnetic susceptibility and organic matter content.
Through the analysis of this data, I hope to determine the levels of chemical elements, associated with
a marine setting, that are present in these sediment cores. My primary objective is to determine
whether or not this area of Massachusetts is a continuation of the Presumpscot Formation in Maine.
From this experience, I have gained knowledge in data analysis and how to write a scientific report
describing my findings in the data and what they mean for understanding the paleoclimate of
Marblehead, Massachusetts. This kind of skillset is transferrable across all scientific research, and the
ability to conduct a research project specific to my interests will allow me to further develop my skills

The Non Profit Organizations
Grand Junction, Colorado is a town in Western Colorado that has taken steps to excel in the health
care field by providing cost effective and efficient care to their community. In lecture this week, we
have learned that the key system concepts are: shared vision, shared reality, people, parts,
interrelationships, leverage, adaptability and iterative learning.1 The article: Grand Junction,
Colorado: A Health Community That Works, is an example of a patient centered medical home that
currently exists in the United States, and should be looked at as a possible solution to our current
health care overspending crisis. I believe that the health care provided in Grand Junction, Colorado
has excelled in all these concepts and will discuss their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shared Reality: Not only did the medical community share a vision, they also shared data through the
Quality Health Network (QHN)2. They developed an IT system that is still in the infancy stages in the
rest of the United States where data is shared between various providers. There is a common network
that providers are able to log into and see other providers notes and care plans. This sharing of
information has decreased the performance of duplicate tests/procedures and has decreased the costs
and increased the quality of care that patients in the Grand Junction community receive. The
information in the shared data system was also used to promote transparency of data on physician
performance to formulate a health care model that focused on the patient and through peer pressure,
caused the providers to strive for better outcomes. People: We have learned that the United States is
lacking providers in the primary care field but Grand Junction actually has an increased number of
PCPs in their community, and this has allowed them to manage their patient s care more in depth.2
Having the social service groups to assist with necessary patient follow up and home care has also
worked favorably for them. In addition, they have highly motivated individuals that are seeking to
make a change in the way that health care is delivered. This is the most important aspect of the whole
system, because without these vital players, the system would

Adversarial System Vs Inquisitorial System
The adversarial system is seen to create fewer truths than it performs justice, and fewer truths than
performs the inquisitorial system. The adversarial system is portrayed by a neutral choice producer
who assesses conflicting performances by opponents to a disagreement, assesses the values of those
performances, and reduces a decision that issues a positive result to one party and a consistent
negative result to the other. Adversarial system consists of decisional accuracy, procedural justice and
the pursuit of truth and fairness (Sevier, 2014). An adversarial, accusatorial system is like a
competition in which the prosecution is opposed against the defense. The adversarial, accusatorial
system is frequently compared with inquisitorial systems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are three situations in which Failure or omission to act is only criminal which are (1) when there
is a statute that creates a legal duty to act, (2) when there is a contract that creates a legal duty to act,
or (3) when there is a special relationship between the parties that creates a legal duty to act. The mens
rea is the specific mental state of the defendant at the time of the crime; a guilty mind. There are two
types of mens rea that are recognized which are general intent and specific intent. There are four
different types of knowing, purposeful, reckless and negligent. The concurrence of an illegal act and a
culpable mental state offers the third essential feature of crime, for those crimes that involve mens rea.
Concurrence commands that the act and the mental state happen together in order for a crime to take
place. Concurrence and culpable mental state should be linked and they should transpire in the
appropriate order, mens rea followed by the act. The mens rea is the one that sets the act into motion.
The perpetrator should shape the focused to murder, before captivating the action that caused in the

How Religious Figures Are Depicted
How Religious Figures are Depicted in Films
Religion often plays an important role in Hollywood films, but do Hollywood films play an important
role in religion? Perhaps the better question is, Does film play an important role in the way people
understand religious concepts?
Although the best reasons for going to the movies are to be entertained and eat popcorn, understanding
a film is actually quite complex. Movies are not only a reflection of life, they also have the capability
of shaping our norms, values, attitudes, and perception of life. Through the media of film, one can find
stories of practically anything imaginable and some things unimaginable. Movie makers use their art
to entertain, to promote political agendas, to educate, and to present life as it is, was, or could be. They
can present truth, truth as they interpret it, or simply ignore truth altogether. A movie can be a work of
fiction, non fiction, or anything in between. A film is an artist s interpretation. What one takes away
from a film depends upon how one interprets what has been seen and heard. Understanding film is
indeed difficult.
Understanding religion is also complex. In American society, Christianity is the largest religion;
however, there are vast differences among Christians, as to what one is to believe and how one s
beliefs are to be put into practice. It s the mixture of beliefs and practices of other religions and the
absence of any religious belief. America is indeed a melting pot when

Southern Cross Austerio Case Summary
How much blame should be assigned to the DJs, to the station, and to the hospital for what happened?
The Djs, the stations and the hospital are all responsible for the crisis. I would blame the station most
for the death. Leaders are not the only one who are responsible to the death. We should blame DJs for
making the prank call. We can blame the hospital for what happened because the receptionist was not
on duty. However, it is the management decision to air the record. Even though they tried to contact
the hospital, but the hospital have no idea about the tape. Thus, the decision to air the tape is the key
reason for the crisis. How would you evaluate the crisis response of Southern Cross Austereo? What
did it do right? Wrong? Southern

Who has more followers between Judaism and Buddhism? The answer is Buddhism.
Buddhism is a religion that has 300 million, their god is Buddha. They are not polytheistic or
monotheistic, they have no personal god. Polytheistic mean a religion has many gods. Monotheistic
only means they have one. Judaism is our second religion. Judaism has 13 million followers, and they

its isolation. Also due to the isolation, it has a high rate of endemic species. Lake Baikal was also the

In general terms, discuss the ways in which the change from a centrally planned economy to a more
market based economy has affected career options and standards of living for the elderly, young
professionals, unskilled laborers, members of the military, women, and former government
bureaucrats. The collapse of the Soviet Union started the change to a market driven economy.
Everyone had to learn what capitalism was and had to do so very quickly, which was not an easy
process. Changing to a market driven economy was great for those who had an advantage, such as the
previous leaders in the Soviet Union. They were able to take over state run businesses as their own
and become wealthy. Others, like young professionals, unskilled laborers etc....lost their jobs and
unemployment skyrocketed. With the unemployment so high, the standard of living for these workers
worsened.
3. Discuss the declining birthrate in Russia and other countries in the region. What do you think the
impact of this decline can have on neighboring countries and regions? Are similar declines happening

Goal Paper 16 to 30
1. Why did Jonah suggest balance the flow with demand instead of balance capacity with demand ?
How does Jonah define bottleneck resource ? Is bottleneck a bad thing to have? How did Alex identify
the bottleneck resources in his plant? Why was he not able to compare the demand with the capacity to
determine bottlenecks?
Jonah suggested balance the flow with demand instead of balance capacity with demand because
capacity of the plant is equal to the capacity of its bottlenecks and it would make flow through
bottlenecks a little less than the market s demand. Jonah defines bottleneck resource as any resource
whose capacity is equal to or less than the demand placed upon it. Bottlenecks are neither bad nor
good; they just are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughput can only go as fast as the bottleneck, therefore non bottleneck resources should only be
producing at the bottleneck rates even if that means that there is idle time.
3. What did Jonah suggest to deal with the two bottlenecks that Alex and his managers discovered?
How did Jonah calculate the value of a bottleneck part ?
Jonah suggests to: first ensure the bottlenecks time isn t wasted. If the bottleneck is sitting idle or
processing defective parts, the bottleneck s time is wasted. Also, Jonah suggests making the
bottlenecks work on production with will help today s throughput. Jonah calculates the value of a
bottleneck part by computing the total expense of the system and dividing it by the number of hours
the bottleneck produces. 4. Based on Jonah s discussion in Chapter 19, provide examples of why the
efficiency mindset could lead to negative effects. Identify a corporate policy (not from Goal) that you
believe may be the bottleneck for making improvement?
Based on Jonah s discussion in Chapter 19, we can see that the efficiency mindset could lead to
negative effects. Examples of this include when Jonah suggests the plant use their old machinery
because isolated the new machine works at a faster pace, but it takes six months to train a staff
member to use the new machine. Focusing on the efficiency of one machine may not make the
production process as a whole better and more efficient. An example

Ending of Far from the Madding Crowd
Question Is the ending of the Far from the Madding Crowd look consistent? Reason your answer.
Answer Thomas Hardy s Far from the Madding Crowd is somewhat gruesome and somber in tone
with the novelist s vision of human destiny and his concept of invincible Fate that intervenes and
shapes joys and sorrows in the world of humans. It is one of the finest novels in the world of literature
with the setting of pastoral landscape surrounded by woods, dales and heaths of Wessex life. The main
plot of the novel grows slowly and furthers towards tragic consequence in a way that heightens the
impression of a perfect tragedy. But suddenly towards the end the vital tone resounding ... Show more

The purpose of writing this novel in that case would have been properly fulfilled. It is because Far
from the Madding Crowd is basically a tragedy. As far as the main plot is concerned the fact can never
be denied that the suffering of human beings is inevitable in this world and that suffering here in this
novel comes through follies and misjudgment inherent in the mind of man. Fate only works as an
accelerator to push man towards his ultimate destiny. Hardy s protagonists in Far from the Madding
Crowd suffer from some weakness or follies latent in their souls. They also like the heroes and
heroines of Shakespearean or classical Greek tragedy either suffer from the error of judjgement or
fatal flaw in their character or fall victims of Fate directly. All the major characters in Far from the
Madding Crowd are portrayed very intelligently by the novelist. They are like the brightly coloured
rabbits in the glowing sunshine, but eventually shadowed like all human beings by certain tinges of
follies. This realistic portrayal makes them immortals in literature. They are at the same time eligible
enough to compete with the magnificent creations of great tragedies. If we keep aside for a moment
the role of chance in Fanny s death, Troy undeniably suffers for his flirtatious and

Fossil Fuels Are Non Renewable
Fossil fuels were formed 300 millions of years ago before the time of dinosaurs (Energy Quest, 2012).
Prehistoric plants and animals formed the fossil fuels millions of years ago (U.S. Department of
Energy, 2013). There are three main fossil fuels that we use oil, coal, and natural gas (Energy Quest,
2012). Fossil fuels are non renewable because they take many millions of years to make (Energy
Quest, 2012). Also, once the fossil fuels are made, they can never be made again. That is why many
people try to save energy by conserving energy (Energy Quest).
The first type of fossil fuels is oil. Oil is found between folds of rocks and in areas that are porous and

coal mining sites can be around 500 feet underground (U.S. Department of Energy, 2012). Today use
coal to generate electricity that s are burned in power plants (U.S. Department of Energy, 2012). There
are four types of coal that we mine today: anthracite, bituminous, subbitminous, and lignite (Energy
Quest, 2012).
Natural gas is the third type of fossil fuels we use everyday. Natural gas was found BCE (Before the
Common Ear) (Energy Quest, 2012). This fossil fuel is lighter than air and is made up of a gas call
methane (Energy Quest, 2012). Methane is a simple compound that contains many carbon atoms and
surrounded by four hydrogen atoms (U.S. Department of Energy). Natural gas is found near petroleum
underground and can be pumped from underground traveling in pipelines to where the gas can be
stored (Energy Quest, 2012). Natural gas is used for cooking, heating and fueling other appliances
(U.S. Department of Energy, 2012). This type of fossil fuel does not have an odor but companies add a
chemical that smells like rotten eggs (U.S. Department of Energy). Natural gas can be found in three
formations: shale formations, sandstone beds, and coal seams (U.S. Department of Energy s, 2012).

Quit Claim Deed Essay
Change is a part of life and business. So is the action to transfer deed title of ownership. For some the
decision is a result of acquiring new property. It may also be related to family circumstances requiring
a name be removed, changed or added onto the property title. The property transfer involves legal
forms to change the recorded deed, some research on the property and the names of all the parties
involved in the transfer. Basic information about the property is obtained through the county recorder
s office where the property is located. The information received from the county contains the name of
the owner filed on the deed title, the property s legal description along with the property s historical
information and data. Meeting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The quit claim deed allows the current owner to relinquish any claim or interest to a deeded property.
In real estate most of these transfers occur between family members. Quit claim deeds do exactly what
they named, they transfer property titles quickly. It is more common to use this type of deed when
transferring property as part of the estate planning for personal assets. For example, your grandparents
pass away and leave property to several of their children. All of the surviving children agree to release
their interest to one of the siblings. In this case the quit claim deed is signed by all of the parties and
the new deed is transferred to the single sibling as a sole owner.
Lack of Warranties and No Guarantees
A quit claim deed does not provide the new owner with any promises or guarantees. Diligence is a
must in this case. Whether the parties know each other or not, the rights of the transferring owner
should be verified. Due to the lack of guarantees with this type of deed a title search is suggested. The
search may uncover liabilities or risks to the new owner. The search will confirm the property is free
of any liens or claims. If the new owner signs the quit claim deed without doing any verifications they
may be subjected and responsible for paying any debt connected to the property.

Risks And Risks Of Risk

the consequences of its impact in the agency. The information generated will be acted upon setting

Also, because of a clear quantitative metrics that are within a specific threshold and an arrangement to
proceed with the plans, it can be used as a data analysis and does not require an expertise to be able to

when using a risk matrix are: insufficient resolution, inaccuracy, inconclusive figures, ineffective for
random decision making and highly negative correlations. The impact of the risk is determined by
using the impact criteria provided below. And the likelihood criteria are used to determine the
likelihood of the hazard occurring. The range of the hazard is further analyzed from the risk matrix by
evaluating the intersection of the impact and likelihood. This will aid in taking the decision of
accepting the risk or not and a risk is usually considered acceptable if it has a very low significant
level. Step 3 determine necessary controls (engineering controls, administrative and work practice

Career As A Neonatal Nurse
By: Herkisha Young
My Dream Career
Revised Rough Draft
A Neonatal Nurse is a career I have always wanted in this world. When I was younger, I have always
dreamed of being a nurse working with babies. I started watching this television show called Labor
and Delivery on TLC almost every week day. There would be a mother who was ready to deliver her
new born baby. I would observe this television show and think, when I grow up, I would like to be a
Neonatal Nurse. A Neonatal Nurse is one who specializes in infant care. As a Neonatal Nurse I would
be the nurse of confidence, compassion, and honesty. Because I possess these traits, A Neonatal Nurse
would be an ideal career for me.
Confidence is the first attribute of a Neonatal Nurse because of my determination and strong will.
When I am able to take orders from a leading physician and show belief in myself I am capable of
performing my duties under any circumstances. I will keep my patients information, history and
records private. For example, I have informed the mother that the information of her new born is
confidential, and will only be discussed and shown to the treating physician of her choice. My self
esteem grows when I have shown discipline and believe that I understand that there are individuals
around me who has more experience, which I can go to and ask for help. ... Show more content on

Caring for my patient is a key to having a successful business. As a Neonatal Nurse I will respect the

keep her baby comfortable while going through medication withdrawals. By creatively performing my
job to the best of my ability and completing tasks in a timely matter, will help tremendously. However,
as a Neonatal Nurse, I will show the mother and her new born concern towards their personal privacy

the things that he does, to include his SEAL training. After his first deployment however this has all

I Want To Be A Cosmetic Therapist
People say to do what you love and you ll never work a day in your life. I love makeup and I love

Poe s Dark Romanticism In The Poe By Edgar Allan Poe
Poe s Dark Romanticism Dark Romanticism took a variety of forms, but Edgar Allan Poe was most
fascinated with madness, death, and evil. Edgar Allan Poe s writing style can typically be identified as
dark and gothic, yet euphonic. Poe s predictable style is clearly demonstrated to his readers. Edgar
Allan Poe raises the level of dark romanticism in the stories, The Raven and The Pit and the Pendulum
by using symbolism as a representation of death, by creating unreliable narrators, and by using a
haunting tone to set the weary mood. The progression of symbolism in the stories to represent the
horror of death is shown throughout Poe s work. In Poe s The Raven, . The raven brings the narrator to
the sense that he will never be able to see his lost love, Lenore, again. This causes the speaker to
wonder if his, soul from out that shadow... shall be lifted the raven replies nevermore (130). The
shadow casted by the raven identifies the death of his lover, and the speaker has the realization that he
will never regain the feeling of happiness and that he may never escape his shadow. Throughout The
Pit and the Pendulum, Poe uses the pit to illustrate the Hell the speaker is put through and the death he
is about to face. My cognisance of the pit, he writes, had become known to the inquisitorial agents the
pit, whose horrors had been destined for so bold a recusant as myself, the pit, typical of hell (264). The
pit represents the narrator s descent into Hell and the

The Lady And The Tramp By Gwendolyn Mink Analysis
In this paper, I will explain how the article The Lady and the Tramp (II): Feminist Welfare Politics,
Poor Single Mothers, and the Challenge of Welfare Justice by Gwendolyn Mink relates to the thematic
focus of working women and the Marxist and socialist branch of feminism. In Feminist Thought: A
More Comprehensive Introduction, Rosemarie Tong explains that Marxist and socialist feminists
understand women s oppression as a labor issue. Women s work is not viewed as a productive
contribution to society. One of the ways Marxist and socialist feminists sought to improve women s
oppression was through the wages for housework campaign of the 1970s, which fought for work done
in the domestic sphere to be paid and respected by society. In this same vein, Mink s article can be
viewed as a continuation of sorts of the wages for housework campaign. Mink suggests that poor
single mothers have the right for their work to be recognized by society and supported economically
like the Marxist and socialist feminist in the 1970s. According to Marxists, women are oppressed
because they are not viewed as a class of workers, which is highly valued in a Marxist society. It is
important to note that Marxists reject the conception of human nature, claiming that our ability to
produce our means of subsistence is what makes humans different from animals that are governed by
instinct (Tong 94). Therefore, humans are what we are because of the productive activities we engage
in to meet our needs.

Music Is All Around Us
Music is all around us. At the start of the 21st century, technology in industrialised societies provides
us with easy access to a vast amount of recorded music. We can listen to our favourite music at home,
in the car, on the train; on home stereos, personal stereos, and through our computers. We are also
often surrounded by music which we have not chosen, at the shops, waiting for a train, even at the
doctor s.
Research is beginning to show how music has the power to change the way we feel, think, and behave.
We know that music can lift our mood, and certain kinds of music can temporarily boost specific kinds
of intelligence. Listening to our favourite music can even help us tolerate high levels of pain.
What do we know about how young children engage with music? There has been quite a lot of
research looking at the very early years. We know that babies can remember music from even before
birth. My own study with the Child of Our Time group in 2001 showed that exposure to a particular
piece of music before birth had long lasting effects, as the babies seemed to prefer listening to that
music up to 15 months after birth. Other studies have explored the features of maternal singing,
showing how this can make the baby feel calm.
There are also studies of babies responses to music in the lab that show them to be really very
sophisticated listeners. In their first year, babies can notice all kinds of small differences in musical
sequences, and are even better than

Federalism In Australia Summary
In the article, Federalism in Australian Constitutional interpretation: signs of reinvigoration? , Chordia
and Lynch explore the constitutional interpretative approach used by the majority in Amalgamated
Society of Engineers v Adelaide Steamship Co Ltd (1920). The article discusses the key factors in the
majority s decision in Engineers that disadvantaged the states by significantly increasing the power of
the Commonwealth.
Tension between the principles of responsible government and federalism was anticipated by the
framers of the constitution, predicting that the one of the two will eventually cancel the other one out.
This tension surfaced in the majorities decision in Engineers and is explored using the historical
evidence of the framers intentions, the ideas that influenced them, and Justice Gageler s critique of the
Engineers decision. Chordia and Lynch argue that the majorities decision in Engineers focused on
responsible government, while completely ignoring the principles of Federalism. This is evident in the
delivery of the majorities decision, declaring that the two fundamental features of the Australian ...

Secondly, Gageler argues that the people of the Commonwealth and the people of the states are
members of a unified sovereign nation rather than members of opposing groups. As such, the
principles of responsible government hold that the laws of the commonwealth hold government
accountable to a unified Crown and to the Australian people. The third argument is that federalism
should only function within situations that directly involve an interference between the
commonwealth and the states. In particular, this third argument corresponds with the nationalist model
of federation that supports a single unified head of

Juvenile Delinquency And Family Structure Of The Family
For quite a while, children encountering youth in single parent families have been seen as being
extraordinary. Being raised by only a solitary parent seems, by all accounts, to be troublesome, yet
finished the years it has turned out to be more conceivable to do. Today numerous children are
growing up to wind up plainly more effective, and sincerely stable whether they are raised by the two
guardians, or only one, to display the troublesome way that life may toss our direction.
The issue lies in the distinction of youthful children raised by single parents, verses kids being raised
by both their mom and dad. Does the child require the two parents? Does the young man require a
father figure around? Does the administration offer help to single parents? What part do step parents
and step children play? With much theory, this point has turned uncommonly fascinating What
individuals must comprehend is that legitimately bringing up a child does not depend on the structure
of a family but should be more focused on the process or values that are taught to these children as
they develop. Children that just have one parent can be just as productive with emotional, social and
behavioral abilities as those with two guardians.
Individuals guarantee that the main path for children to increase full passionate and behavioral
abilities are to be raised by both a mother and a father. In the article, Juvenile Delinquency and Family
Structure , author Anika Doggett states, Juveniles are

Essay about A Tragic Demise in Short Story, Paul s Caseby ...
Paul s Case is a short story by Willa Cather that was written in 1905. Paul is boy in high school that
has many behavior problems. He strives for attention so badly that he feels that he needs to show out
in order to receive the recognition that he wants, especially from his father. Willa Cather uses
symbolism in her short story to develop the tragic demise of Paul. The symbolism used in the first
paragraph is repeated throughout the story. The red carnation that Paul has placed in the buttonhole
symbolizes his unreal desire to become recognized. The carnation is very flamboyant and is not
appropriate attire for the discipline meeting that Paul is having with the principal of his school and all

On one side of the glass is the harsh reality that is Paul s life, while on the other side is the fantasy that
Paul pictures himself fitting into.
The flowers in the story symbolize Paul s place in the dream. He sees himself as the final piece his
perfect life. When Paul comes arrives in the city, he spots that there are not any flowers in his room
and orders for someone to retrieve some. Paul places them in water, and then gets into a bath himself.
When he was shown to his sitting room on the eighth floor, he saw at a glance that was as it should be;
there was but one detail in his mental picture that the place did not realize, so he rang for the bell boy
and sent him down for flowers... When the flowers came, he put them hastily into water, and then
tumbled into a hot bath (544 545). Paul feels like the flowers are needed to complete the mental image
he has of his perfect life. In the room, there were no flowers, showing that Paul was not in the dream.
His getting the flowers, symbolizes that he had finally placed himself in the dream.
Towards the end of the story, Paul takes a walk in the park where he sees flowers blooming in a glass
case. This symbolizes that it is not possible for Paul s dream to be actuality , or at least under his
circumstances. Here and there on the corners were stands, with whole flower gardens booming under
glass cases, against the sides of which the snow flakes stuck and melted; violets, roses,

The Grapes Of Wrath By John Steinbeck And The Grapes Of Wrath
The novels The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck and Under the Feet of Jesus by Helena Maria
Viramontes both explore the plight of migrant farmers in California. Steinbeck tells the story of white
migrant workers during the Great Depression and Viramontes tells the story of Mexican migrant
workers. The novels deconstruct the perceived California dream in which great wealth can be
achieved through hard work by recounting the plights of migrant workers who recognize the illusion
and take action against it. Steinbeck s novel portrays the plight of the Joad family, natives of
Oklahoma. The Joads, a family of dispossessed farmers, travel to California searching for work after
the forces of large scale banking capitalism remove them from their land. They chase the promise of a
new beginning and the opportunity to find wealth because of the California dream. Steinbeck narrates
the journey of an underclass family achieving the Marxist construction of class consciousness. Class
conflict between wage slaves and the owners of the means of production, social alienation through the
separation of labor and profit, and dehumanization of workers through the mass commodification of
labor all appear in the novel. Class consciousness defines the novel and is the method by which the
Joad family is able to rise against the bourgeois and capitalism. The Joads are a member of the
proletariat and must work as laborers who are, according to Karl Marx, A class of labourers, who live

Living In A Diverse Community Analysis
Auto rickshaws stuck in traffic, countless jaywalkers, and a vast array of colors mark the streets of

in 2017 to $54.3 billion, 8% less than the year 2016 (Mintel Academic). This industry is in the

Buyers are not likely to integrate backwards and thus serve solely as direct customers. The population

labours are treated as domestic animals as their working intensity is inconceivable that they worked
with furious intensity, literally upon the run at a pace with which there is nothing to be compared
except a football game. (chapter 3) The work almost deprived all of the energy of labours. The novel
also reflects the brutal competition which is full of deceit and dishonesty. Many people choose to
benumb themselves to be an alcoholic in order to avoid competition. For women who are lack of
advantages for competition, prostitution and degeneration become the only way to survive. The poor
are competing with each other for the sake of food and clothing, while politicians are bribing money

Eric Schlosser s Fast Food Nation Exposes the High Cost of...
Many feel that the fast food industry is providing a valuable service by catering to consumer needs;
that it is inexpensive and easily accessible. For people who don t have time to prepare meals, for
households in which both parents work, there s no question it provides a service. But what is the true
cost of this convenience? In the book, Fast Food Nation, Eric Schlosser reveals that the cost is the
lives of the people who work in the meat processing plants. Meat packing is now the most dangerous
job in the United States.
The men and women who work in the slaughterhouses are often low paid, poor immigrants, who have
not completely learned English and are practically illiterate. These workers make a knife cut every two

This manner that runs the lives of slaughterhouse workers is completely unethical. In any business,
stopping an employee from receiving due compensation for injuries is unfair and unethical. It seems
like that in any other business, if a worker is injured, and does not receive fair compensation, they
have the ability and drive to enforce the law; but in the case of the slaughterhouse workers, that are
often illiterate, this rarely happens.
The fast food industry both feeds and prays off the young. Pioneers in developing marketing strategies
to target children, the fast food chains have even infiltrated the nation s schools through lunchroom
franchises and special advertising packages that answer public education s need for funds; in every
way possible, giving the children a loyal friend to rely on. In many franchises, teenagers are perfect
candidates for low paying, low skilled, short term jobs and constitute a large part of the fast food
chains workforce; and often practically run individual locations, having more responsibility than most
adults.
The intense advertising and responsibilities is not the only thing we saw in Fast Food Nation that
effected children. The quality of the meat that is fed to children in school and at the fast food
restaurants is in some cases horrendous. Children are not the only age group that eats this tainted food,
but they are more greatly

RESULTS AND ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION Overall, there were little to no complications for this

One change was the distances. In the original written procedure, see Attachment 02 of this report, the
distances for all parts were noted as; next to the heat source, 5 inches away, and 10 inches away. After
testing these measurements in the lab, the distances were alter to be next to, 2 inches away, and 5

The average temperature of the human body is 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit. By calculating the mean of
the temperatures taken, through the ears, of the two thermometers, the Braun got the closest with
98.44 F in the right ear and 97.51 F in the left, when compared to the Proven with 97.24 F in the right
and 96.42 F in the left. The Proven had a higher accuracy when measuring the temperature of the
forehead with the sensor cap, illustrating that, for this device, it is better to measure temperature
through the forehead than in the ears. Through this observation it can be concluded that the Braun
thermometer is better for measuring a person s core body temperature. This could be due to the overall
design and application of each thermometer. The Braun thermometer measured temperature solely in
through the ears, while the Proven thermometer is modified to measure temperature either through the
ears or on the forehead. This could lead to a more accurate reading of the Braun thermometer, since it
s focused on a single place.
When measuring the cool tap water in the second part of this experiment, the alcohol thermometer
presented a reading of 60.8 F (16 C) and the Proven thermometer produced a reading of 63.1 F (16.3
C). There was not a huge difference between the two readings, given that one is meant to read the
infrared wavelengths of the human body.

Comprehension Strategies For An Effective Reading Program...
Comprehension strategies are used as part of an effective reading program to teach students how to
monitor their understanding of what they have read. Additionally, students learn where and how to
implement these strategies to derive meaning and clear up any areas of text that are confusing. These
strategies help students monitor their understanding of the text by making predictions, attaching the
content to prior experiences, and asking questions about the text to deeper their understanding
(Reading Rockets, n.d.). When students understand what they read, they can summarize or retell facts
or stories from various genres (Reading Rockets, n.d.). When incorporating comprehension strategies,
educators should model how, where, and when each strategy is used (Swanson De la Paz, 1998). One
way to accomplish this task is by teaching students how to use a graphic organizer. Graphic organizers
are visual tools that help students organize information in a text before, during, and after reading.
They also teach students about text structures to build memory and the sequencing of events that occur
in a story. Additionally, students learn to identify the main idea and signal words such as first, next,
finally or last to reinforce comprehension.
Independent Practice Students need lots of opportunities and time to apply the comprehension
strategies they are learning. This can be achieved when students engage in reading activities that
reinforce the specific strategy. For example,

Employee Engagement Touches Every Aspect Of Human Resources
Employee engagement touches every aspect of human resources management and human resources is

Research by (MacLeod and Clarke, 2009) defined employee engagement as:
Creating an environment where employees are motivated to want to connect with their work and really
care about doing a good job...It is a concept that places flexibility, change and continuous
improvement at the heart of what it means to be an employee and an employer in a twenty first

  • 2. My Graduate Career At Mount Holyoke College During my undergraduate career at Mount Holyoke College, I have taken an array of courses; with topics ranging from GIS to geomorphology to a field course that involves a ten day trip to Death Valley National Park in California. My multidisciplinary knowledge of the geosciences granted me the privilege to join a research project with a fellow student and her advisor, Professor Alan Werner. Conducted through Harvard Forest, her project assesses the change in stratigraphy within sediment cores in Marblehead, Massachusetts. I am responsible for using her previously gathered XRF scanner data to determine the paleoclimate immediately following the glacial maximum about 14,000 years ago. I also have access to data showing the core s magnetic susceptibility and organic matter content. Through the analysis of this data, I hope to determine the levels of chemical elements, associated with a marine setting, that are present in these sediment cores. My primary objective is to determine whether or not this area of Massachusetts is a continuation of the Presumpscot Formation in Maine. From this experience, I have gained knowledge in data analysis and how to write a scientific report describing my findings in the data and what they mean for understanding the paleoclimate of Marblehead, Massachusetts. This kind of skillset is transferrable across all scientific research, and the ability to conduct a research project specific to my interests will allow me to further develop my skills as a ... • 3. The Non Profit Organizations Grand Junction, Colorado is a town in Western Colorado that has taken steps to excel in the health care field by providing cost effective and efficient care to their community. In lecture this week, we have learned that the key system concepts are: shared vision, shared reality, people, parts, interrelationships, leverage, adaptability and iterative learning.1 The article: Grand Junction, Colorado: A Health Community That Works, is an example of a patient centered medical home that currently exists in the United States, and should be looked at as a possible solution to our current health care overspending crisis. I believe that the health care provided in Grand Junction, Colorado has excelled in all these concepts and will discuss their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Shared Reality: Not only did the medical community share a vision, they also shared data through the Quality Health Network (QHN)2. They developed an IT system that is still in the infancy stages in the rest of the United States where data is shared between various providers. There is a common network that providers are able to log into and see other providers notes and care plans. This sharing of information has decreased the performance of duplicate tests/procedures and has decreased the costs and increased the quality of care that patients in the Grand Junction community receive. The information in the shared data system was also used to promote transparency of data on physician performance to formulate a health care model that focused on the patient and through peer pressure, caused the providers to strive for better outcomes. People: We have learned that the United States is lacking providers in the primary care field but Grand Junction actually has an increased number of PCPs in their community, and this has allowed them to manage their patient s care more in depth.2 Having the social service groups to assist with necessary patient follow up and home care has also worked favorably for them. In addition, they have highly motivated individuals that are seeking to make a change in the way that health care is delivered. This is the most important aspect of the whole system, because without these vital players, the system would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Adversarial System Vs Inquisitorial System The adversarial system is seen to create fewer truths than it performs justice, and fewer truths than performs the inquisitorial system. The adversarial system is portrayed by a neutral choice producer who assesses conflicting performances by opponents to a disagreement, assesses the values of those performances, and reduces a decision that issues a positive result to one party and a consistent negative result to the other. Adversarial system consists of decisional accuracy, procedural justice and the pursuit of truth and fairness (Sevier, 2014). An adversarial, accusatorial system is like a competition in which the prosecution is opposed against the defense. The adversarial, accusatorial system is frequently compared with inquisitorial systems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are three situations in which Failure or omission to act is only criminal which are (1) when there is a statute that creates a legal duty to act, (2) when there is a contract that creates a legal duty to act, or (3) when there is a special relationship between the parties that creates a legal duty to act. The mens rea is the specific mental state of the defendant at the time of the crime; a guilty mind. There are two types of mens rea that are recognized which are general intent and specific intent. There are four different types of knowing, purposeful, reckless and negligent. The concurrence of an illegal act and a culpable mental state offers the third essential feature of crime, for those crimes that involve mens rea. • 5. How Religious Figures Are Depicted How Religious Figures are Depicted in Films Religion often plays an important role in Hollywood films, but do Hollywood films play an important role in religion? Perhaps the better question is, Does film play an important role in the way people understand religious concepts? Although the best reasons for going to the movies are to be entertained and eat popcorn, understanding a film is actually quite complex. Movies are not only a reflection of life, they also have the capability of shaping our norms, values, attitudes, and perception of life. Through the media of film, one can find stories of practically anything imaginable and some things unimaginable. Movie makers use their art to entertain, to promote political agendas, to educate, and to present life as it is, was, or could be. They can present truth, truth as they interpret it, or simply ignore truth altogether. A movie can be a work of fiction, non fiction, or anything in between. A film is an artist s interpretation. What one takes away from a film depends upon how one interprets what has been seen and heard. Understanding film is indeed difficult. Understanding religion is also complex. In American society, Christianity is the largest religion; however, there are vast differences among Christians, as to what one is to believe and how one s beliefs are to be put into practice. It s the mixture of beliefs and practices of other religions and the absence of any religious belief. America is indeed a melting pot when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Southern Cross Austerio Case Summary How much blame should be assigned to the DJs, to the station, and to the hospital for what happened? The Djs, the stations and the hospital are all responsible for the crisis. I would blame the station most for the death. Leaders are not the only one who are responsible to the death. We should blame DJs for making the prank call. We can blame the hospital for what happened because the receptionist was not on duty. However, it is the management decision to air the record. Even though they tried to contact the hospital, but the hospital have no idea about the tape. Thus, the decision to air the tape is the key reason for the crisis. Answer Thomas Hardy s Far from the Madding Crowd is somewhat gruesome and somber in tone with the novelist s vision of human destiny and his concept of invincible Fate that intervenes and shapes joys and sorrows in the world of humans. It is one of the finest novels in the world of literature with the setting of pastoral landscape surrounded by woods, dales and heaths of Wessex life. As far as the main plot is concerned the fact can never be denied that the suffering of human beings is inevitable in this world and that suffering here in this novel comes through follies and misjudgment inherent in the mind of man. Fate only works as an accelerator to push man towards his ultimate destiny. Hardy s protagonists in Far from the Madding Crowd suffer from some weakness or follies latent in their souls. • 23. Poe s Dark Romanticism In The Poe By Edgar Allan Poe Poe s Dark Romanticism Dark Romanticism took a variety of forms, but Edgar Allan Poe was most fascinated with madness, death, and evil. Edgar Allan Poe s writing style can typically be identified as dark and gothic, yet euphonic. Poe s predictable style is clearly demonstrated to his readers. Edgar Allan Poe raises the level of dark romanticism in the stories, The Raven and The Pit and the Pendulum by using symbolism as a representation of death, by creating unreliable narrators, and by using a haunting tone to set the weary mood. The progression of symbolism in the stories to represent the horror of death is shown throughout Poe s work. In Poe s The Raven, . The raven brings the narrator to the sense that he will never be able to see his lost love, Lenore, again. This causes the speaker to wonder if his, soul from out that shadow... shall be lifted the raven replies nevermore (130). The shadow casted by the raven identifies the death of his lover, and the speaker has the realization that he will never regain the feeling of happiness and that he may never escape his shadow. The Lady And The Tramp By Gwendolyn Mink Analysis In this paper, I will explain how the article The Lady and the Tramp (II): Feminist Welfare Politics, Poor Single Mothers, and the Challenge of Welfare Justice by Gwendolyn Mink relates to the thematic focus of working women and the Marxist and socialist branch of feminism. In Feminist Thought: A More Comprehensive Introduction, Rosemarie Tong explains that Marxist and socialist feminists understand women s oppression as a labor issue. Women s work is not viewed as a productive contribution to society. One of the ways Marxist and socialist feminists sought to improve women s oppression was through the wages for housework campaign of the 1970s, which fought for work done in the domestic sphere to be paid and respected by society. In this same vein, Mink s article can be viewed as a continuation of sorts of the wages for housework campaign. Mink suggests that poor single mothers have the right for their work to be recognized by society and supported economically like the Marxist and socialist feminist in the 1970s. According to Marxists, women are oppressed because they are not viewed as a class of workers, which is highly valued in a Marxist society. It is important to note that Marxists reject the conception of human nature, claiming that our ability to produce our means of subsistence is what makes humans different from animals that are governed by instinct (Tong 94). Therefore, humans are what we are because of the productive activities we engage in to meet our needs. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My own study with the Child of Our Time group in 2001 showed that exposure to a particular piece of music before birth had long lasting effects, as the babies seemed to prefer listening to that music up to 15 months after birth. Does the young man require a father figure around? Does the administration offer help to single parents? What part do step parents and step children play? With much theory, this point has turned uncommonly fascinating What individuals must comprehend is that legitimately bringing up a child does not depend on the structure of a family but should be more focused on the process or values that are taught to these children as they develop. Children that just have one parent can be just as productive with emotional, social and behavioral abilities as those with two guardians. Individuals guarantee that the main path for children to increase full passionate and behavioral abilities are to be raised by both a mother and a father. • 29. Essay about A Tragic Demise in Short Story, Paul s Caseby ... Paul s Case is a short story by Willa Cather that was written in 1905. Paul is boy in high school that has many behavior problems. He strives for attention so badly that he feels that he needs to show out in order to receive the recognition that he wants, especially from his father. Willa Cather uses symbolism in her short story to develop the tragic demise of Paul. The symbolism used in the first paragraph is repeated throughout the story. The red carnation that Paul has placed in the buttonhole symbolizes his unreal desire to become recognized. The carnation is very flamboyant and is not appropriate attire for the discipline meeting that Paul is having with the principal of his school and all of his teachers that also have ... • 31. The Grapes Of Wrath By John Steinbeck And The Grapes Of Wrath The novels The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck and Under the Feet of Jesus by Helena Maria Viramontes both explore the plight of migrant farmers in California. Steinbeck tells the story of white migrant workers during the Great Depression and Viramontes tells the story of Mexican migrant workers. The novels deconstruct the perceived California dream in which great wealth can be achieved through hard work by recounting the plights of migrant workers who recognize the illusion and take action against it. Steinbeck s novel portrays the plight of the Joad family, natives of Oklahoma. The Joads, a family of dispossessed farmers, travel to California searching for work after the forces of large scale banking capitalism remove them from their land. They chase the promise of a new beginning and the opportunity to find wealth because of the California dream. Steinbeck narrates the journey of an underclass family achieving the Marxist construction of class consciousness. Class conflict between wage slaves and the owners of the means of production, social alienation through the separation of labor and profit, and dehumanization of workers through the mass commodification of labor all appear in the novel. Class consciousness defines the novel and is the method by which the Joad family is able to rise against the bourgeois and capitalism. The Joads are a member of the proletariat and must work as laborers who are, according to Karl Marx, A class of labourers, who live only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For people who don t have time to prepare meals, for households in which both parents work, there s no question it provides a service. But what is the true cost of this convenience? In the book, Fast Food Nation, Eric Schlosser reveals that the cost is the lives of the people who work in the meat processing plants. Meat packing is now the most dangerous job in the United States. In any business, stopping an employee from receiving due compensation for injuries is unfair and unethical. It seems like that in any other business, if a worker is injured, and does not receive fair compensation, they have the ability and drive to enforce the law; but in the case of the slaughterhouse workers, that are often illiterate, this rarely happens. The fast food industry both feeds and prays off the young. Pioneers in developing marketing strategies to target children, the fast food chains have even infiltrated the nation s schools through lunchroom franchises and special advertising packages that answer public education s need for funds; in every way possible, giving the children a loyal friend to rely on. In many franchises, teenagers are perfect candidates for low paying, low skilled, short term jobs and constitute a large part of the fast food chains workforce; and often practically run individual locations, having more responsibility than most adults. After testing these measurements in the lab, the distances were alter to be next to, 2 inches away, and 5 inches away. This was done in order to produce more prominent temperature results. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The average temperature of the human body is 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit. By calculating the mean of the temperatures taken, through the ears, of the two thermometers, the Braun got the closest with 98.44 F in the right ear and 97.51 F in the left, when compared to the Proven with 97.24 F in the right and 96.42 F in the left. The Proven had a higher accuracy when measuring the temperature of the forehead with the sensor cap, illustrating that, for this device, it is better to measure temperature through the forehead than in the ears. Through this observation it can be concluded that the Braun thermometer is better for measuring a person s core body temperature. This could be due to the overall design and application of each thermometer. The Braun thermometer measured temperature solely in through the ears, while the Proven thermometer is modified to measure temperature either through the ears or on the forehead. This could lead to a more accurate reading of the Braun thermometer, since it s focused on a single place. When measuring the cool tap water in the second part of this experiment, the alcohol thermometer presented a reading of 60.8 F (16 C) and the Proven thermometer produced a reading of 63.1 F (16.3 C). • 38. Comprehension Strategies For An Effective Reading Program... Comprehension strategies are used as part of an effective reading program to teach students how to monitor their understanding of what they have read. Additionally, students learn where and how to implement these strategies to derive meaning and clear up any areas of text that are confusing. These strategies help students monitor their understanding of the text by making predictions, attaching the content to prior experiences, and asking questions about the text to deeper their understanding (Reading Rockets, n.d.). When students understand what they read, they can summarize or retell facts or stories from various genres (Reading Rockets, n.d.). When incorporating comprehension strategies, educators should model how, where, and when each strategy is used (Swanson De la Paz, 1998). One way to accomplish this task is by teaching students how to use a graphic organizer. Graphic organizers are visual tools that help students organize information in a text before, during, and after reading. They also teach students about text structures to build memory and the sequencing of events that occur in a story. Additionally, students learn to identify the main idea and signal words such as first, next, finally or last to reinforce comprehension. Independent Practice Students need lots of opportunities and time to apply the comprehension strategies they are learning. This can be achieved when students engage in reading activities that reinforce the specific strategy. For example, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
