Essay on A Brief Overview of Walter Mitty
A Brief Overview of Walter Mitty
In the short story, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty by James Thurber, many interesting fantasies
occur in a way which brings the reader into a different world. The story switches back and forth
from delusion to reality, dragging the reader into a life, perhaps similar to their own. In the
beginning of this story, the first paragraph is a fantasy of the main character, Walter Mitty. It
describes his life as a commander of an aircraft. An intense scene is displayed showing what
Walter Mitty wishes would be reality. It is not until the next paragraph that one discovers this
reality. His wife then interrupts the scene, bringing Walter Mitty back into his everyday life, one
which is far less exciting to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The formalistic approach for analyzing this would be most appropriate in order to pick out the
elements such as setting, irony, imagery and metaphorical factors. These are organized in such a
way that the formatting consumes the story. In this tale, the first important element would be the
introduction of the setting. Throughout the story, the author writes across multiple settings
because of these flashbacks that he displays. The first setting would be on an airplane with two
introductory characters; The Commander and Lieutenant Berg . This beginning setting is seen
as a guessing game to begin with as the dialogue becomes the most prominent use in this
introduction. Once the setting is described more clearly as the paragraph moves forward, the
reader will grasp an understanding of where these two characters are. However, soon after the
reader s mind may be clarified, the scene is interrupted with the dialogue of a new character,
Mrs. Mitty. Not so fast! You re driving too fast! Said Mrs. Mitty. What are you driving so fast
for? (Thurber 1). This is the first example one has of the basic structure that this story will set
forth. The organization of this story goes from what was described in the introductory paragraph as
a flashback, to the interrupting dialogue of Mrs. Mitty. As she yells,

Riordan Manufacturing Financial Analysis
Riordan Manufacturing, Incorporated is an industry leader in plastic injection molding. State of the
art design capabilities allow creation of innovative plastic designs that have earned international
acclaim. Attention to detail, extreme precision, and enthusiastic quality controls are the hallmarks
of Riordan Manufacturing with facilities in San Jose, California, Albany, Georgia, Pontiac,
Michigan, and Hangzhou, China (Apollo Group, 2005, 2006). The slow consolidation of the
operational processes of the different divisions with different non compatible operation software
has become a financial threat to Riordan Manufacturing. The current situation of the financial and

Investing in an integrated computer system for its finance and accounting department will
increase Riordan s productivity without greatly affecting its ability to repay its debts. Budget A
detailed written budget for Riordan Manufacturing Incorporated is available. The budget
explains where the company will obtain the money for the new finance and accounting (F and
A) system. The existing system is obsolete. The system is costing the company time and money
because of the manual processes in place for financial reporting. A major reason for the issues
concerning the current F and A system is that each of the facilities has a different F and A
system that is not compatible with the others (Apollo Group, 2005, 2006). The lack of
compatibility shows up in the form of different types of data that the finance staff receives. This
data includes information provided by facilities via hardcopy reports and must be re entered.
Some of the data received is via data files but the information is not in the correct format. The
result is to convert the data or redirect the data to the proper account codes. This can be a
logistical nightmare for any company because there are so many methods for records keeping.
Consolidation of these records will be highly challenging for Riordan while trying to implement
and training staff on how to use the new system (Apollo Group, 2005, 2006). The funding for the

1) There is a drear and lonely tract of hell

The Man Who Died Twice and Tristram The last two of these won Pulitzer Prizes in 1925 and
1927, when he was elected as a member of the National Academy of Arts and Letters.
Robinson never married but enjoyed the company of many friends. He died of cancer in hospital
in New York on April 6, 1935. A few of his most known poems are, The Children of the Night
Captain Craig The Town Down the River The Man against the Sky The Three Taverns and Avon s
Harvest. He had 3 Pulitzer prizes awarded to him.
For the first twenty years of Robinson s writing career, he had difficulty in getting published and
attracting an audience. He published his first two volumes privately and friends secretly guaranteed
the publication of the third. He did receive positive reviews from the beginning, however, and with
the publication of The Man Against the Sky in 1916 his reputation was secure.
For the rest of his life he was widely regarded as quot;America s foremost poet, quot; as William
Stanley Braithwaite put it. Both academics and the general public held him in high esteem, as
attested by the fact of his winning three Pulitzer Prizes for poetry for volumes published in 1921,
1924, and 1927, when his Tristram became a national best seller.
Although Robinson s subject matter and philosophical stance differ markedly from that of his

The Impact Of Religion On Human Culture
For centuries, human culture has been influenced in a multitude of ways by many means but none
have had such an impact as religion. It has had countless wars waged in its name, even to this day.
Billions believe in some divine being(s) that transcends the ugliness of humanity that s omnipotent
and omniscient. Religion became a guide and a representation of how our lives should be led.
However, history has brought evidence that made it possible for this notion to be criticized and
rather, flipped. The majority of the humanrace believes that religion shaped our culture but it is
rather the other way round, in that the culture of our ancestors, the Mesopotamians and the
Hebrews shaped religion to explain the natural world and as a reflection of their lives and
tribulations.
During the age of Mesopotamia, climate change was still a key factor in the survival of
civilizations but did not work on a global scale as it did before during cooling and warming
periods. One day of bad weather could destroy a year s worth of crops for a family and displace
them without any means of self sustainability. It would be a millennium until food could be brought
to the area again. To the average human living in Mesopotamia at the time, this would have been
chaos, living in fear for when everything that was earned would be destroyed.
This erratic behavior of nature could not be summed up as one god for there were no rhythms or
patterns to be discern so to compensate for that, each aspect of

Advantages And Disadvantages Of A Boost Transverter
The conventional DC DC converters have the disadvantages of operating at high duty cycle, high
switch voltage stress and high diode peak current. Non isolated high step up converter overcomes
this drawback. This converter reduces voltage stress on switch by using clamped capacitor circuit
which is helpful to reduce the conduction losses by using low power rated components and
efficiency will increase. Single switch is used in the non isolated high step up converter, thus reduce
the entire cost of the converter. The energy stored in leakage inductance of coupled inductoris
efficiently recycled to the output. The voltage doubler circuit is added for further extending the
voltage gain. The control strategy is the one cycle control. By the application... Show more content

connected to the primary side of the coupled inductor, the voltage stress of the active switch is
reduced greatly and the clamped capacitor also transfers the primary leakage energy to the output.
At the same time, a diode capacitor circuit is integrated with the secondary winding for further

Dietary Intake Of Sodium Essay
1)The correct amount of sodium is important in the body because it helps control blood pressure
and regulates the function of muscles and nerves (http://healthyeating.sfgate.com/actions sodium

if you consume to much sodiumthe body will hold on too much water which can increase your blood
pressure (http://healthyeating.sfgate.com/actions sodium human body 8362.html). Sodium comes
from a variety of food. A mistake that people make is believing that sodium is only found in table
salt. Most of the dietary sodium that is added during cooking and at the table only makes up about

help Hugh s lose weight would be to exercise more and eat smaller portion of food, but also
remembering to no skip meals (http://www.webmd.com/diet/features/lose weight fast how to do

that if you skip a meal you are more likely to eat more and crave more for your next meal (http:/
/www.humankinetics.com/excerpts/excerpts/skipping meals can have negative consequences).
This could lead to an extra calorie intake. Also when Hugh skips a meal he is depriving his body
of essential nutrients that supply him with energy. This can lead to him feeling lethargic, and
also giving him less motivation to exercise (http://www.thedailymeal.com/cook/6 reasons you

would recommend that Hugh cooks extra food that consists of healthy foods such as vegetables,
grilled lean fat meats, and whole grains the night before work and then make him a plate for
work. This would help prevent Hugh from eating fast food on his lunch break, and still not be
inconvenient. One of the other big factors for Hugh to lose weight would be exercise. As of now

The reorganization of the world and the crumbling of the Ottoman Empire at the end of the First
World War enabled the British Empire to help the Zionists create the Jewish State in Palestine. To
arrive at this juncture the British occupied Egypt to protect their interests in India. However, British
expansion went far beyond Egypt, they conquered lands throughout the Middle East, capturing
Mesopotamia, Palestine and Syria. British s successes came with the assistance of Arab nationalists
who had a desire of their own independence from the Ottoman Turks. Arab nationalist, Husayn bin

Progressive Tax
Abstract
There has long been a debate about the progressive tax. Is it fair that the citizens who earn more
are taxed at a higher rate? Is it fair that those who do not make as much pay a smaller percentage
of taxes? This paper will discuss these questions along with the history of progressive tax. The
United States collects income from six different tax brackets that range anywhere from 10% to 35%
on an individual s taxable income.
Keywords: progressive tax, federal income taxes, ability to pay. In 1913, Congress levied a 1%
tax on net personal incomes above $3,000, with a six percent surtax on incomes above $500,000.
As the nation sought greater revenue to finance the World War I effort, the top rate of income tax
rose considerably. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

As technology is increasing on a rapid scale there is much need for the different software
development approaches to be modified and enhanced in order to face the present customer
requirements and blooming Technology market. Believers of the old approach of software
development finds its best in developing with planning, reusability, predictability that helps to

XP is one of the agile methods which is defined as Extreme Programming, many new developers
and designers are tending to follow these methodologies than the age old techniques. But managers
who are accustomed to the traditional way of software development are finding it difficult in
accepting these new approaches. Furthermore the plan driven approach also has many underlying
advantages such as focusing on the major goals of the project which is named as major milestone
on the contrary to micro milestones or inch pebbles . In the plan driven approach more planning is
emphasized which pressurize the development teams to follow the pre specified documentation
even at the minor levels of modification at technology, commercial and personal aspects. The author
of the article suggests that there should be at least three milestones in the software development
process. Firstly for the progress of the project in order to know the current status of the project.
Secondly for the stakeholder s checkpoint i.e. to check the progress on the development process
form the stakeholders point of view whether the commitment given to them is fulfilled or not. The
planning spectrum demonstrates the models on straight line where the unplanned hacking is on the
left of the spectrum and the inch pebble in on the extreme right.
Now after brief discussion of the different approaches the author tries to explain the advantages and

Assisted Suicide And The United States
In today s society it is taught that life is a precious gift and to cherish every second that is
allowed, but what if it is full of endless pain and misery? Starting hundreds of years ago in Ancient
Greece up until modern times with Doctor Kevorkian, physician assisted suicide, and euthanasia
are all highly debated topics that cause both legal and moral dilemmas, but provide patients with
benefits such as financial and pain relief. Assisted suicide should be legalized in the United States
to prevent pain and suffering for the patients and their families. Cultures around the world have
been using assisted suicide to provide an easy and painless deathfor hundreds of years. Euthanasia, a

They were big buildings that were equipped with gas chambers, crematoriums, mortuaries, and
rooms to dissect and remove all valuables that were missed in earlier collection. Historians
speculate this is what started the endemic of assisted suicide in modern times. Hitler started
what was know as the Euthanasia Program in which the term was changed from Good Death to
mass murder of the Jewish people, Gypsies and the handicapped people of Germany and
ultimately started the Holocaust. Hitler wanted to kill off the people that he did not think were
worthy of life. Doctor Jack Kevorkian was the subject of the most recent assisted suicide
debates. Dr. Death, as he was later called, was a pathologist who was convicted of murder for
helping his patients in the act of physician assisted suicide. He was always interested in death and
dying and wanted to help his patients go peacefully instead of suffering. He had, what he called, a
suicide machine set up in an old van and would drive around, at people s requests, to assist them in
killing themselves. Kevorkian was tried multiple times for murder, but pleaded not guilty until
1999, when the court showed a video of him providing Thomas Youk with lethal doses of drugs.

They say that there were children playing in the woods. Eight children seven sisters and their
brother. And the boy was pretending to be a bear and he was chasing his sisters through the
woods, and they were pretending to be frightened. And in the course of the game, the boy
actually turned into a bear. It was a terrible thing. The sisters, when they saw that, were truly
terrified and they ran for their lives, the bear after them. As they were running, they passed the
stump of a tree a very large, huge tree stump. And the tree spoke to them and said, If you will
climb up on me, I will save you. So the sisters climbed on top of the tree stump, and as they did
so, it began to rise into the air. And the bear came to kill them, but they were beyond its reach,
and so the bear reared up and scored the bar all around with its claws, and if you ve seen Devils
Tower, it is deeply striated all around. It looks like it has been scored by the claws of a gigantic
beast. And the girls, as the story has it, were born into the sky and they became the stars of the Big
Dipper. And that is the story.

Agriculture Myths And Facts
Agriculture Myths and Facts
Melissa Clark
Murray State University
Over the years agricultural industries, especially the food industry, have developed negative
reputations, all due to made up myths that people have chosen to believe in. Some of those myths
include: farmers are trying to hide the way they run their businesses, the food system is controlled
by select large corporations more worried about money than consumer satisfaction, and crops that
are not affected by herbicides are bad because they remain normal when treated. Many of these
allegations come from people who are poorly educated of how the food industry works. Let s see if
we can clear up a few things and get our facts straight.
One way the food industry s name has declined over the past years is that people believe farmers
are trying to hold sometime of veil over our eyes to distract us from how our food is actually raised,
processed, and sold. People assume that just because a few ... Show more content on

This is a false statement because farmers use herbicides to prevent an overpopulation of weeds to
grow among their crops so a minimum amount of tillage is necessary to maintain the crop.
Meanwhile, there may be a microscopic effect on the crop itself, but most plants aren t bothered
by herbicides. Due to the lack of knowledge people have refused to eat some products because they
believe it is greatly affected by insecticides.
Most myths are produced from the ignorance of some people who don t know how their food is
grown and what process is used to make sure it is healthy. Hopefully this essay opens your eyes at
least a little bit to the truths and facts about the food industry. This particular industry has taken
hard hits due to false accusations from people who don t know any better. With the spread of the

Globalization Of Mcdonaldization
McDonalds is a fast food company that was founded in the 1940 s. In McDonalds short
existence it has revolutionized not only the fast food industry, but the way in which business is
conducted world wide. What the McDonald brothers and then Ray Kroc set out to accomplish
was a business model that standardized all aspects of operation, in order to make expansion
effortless. So great their power of growth that McDonalds now has over 31 thousand stores in
over 118 countries. So iconic that the average US school child can recognize Ronald McDonald.
Ritzer describes McDonaldization as ...the process by which the principles of the fast food
restaurant are coming to dominate more and more sectors of American society as well as of the
rest of the world (Ritzer, 1993:1). This penetration by the ideal of McDonaldization can be seen
in our school system. School systems are moving towards producing graduates, as apposed to
imparting knowledge. Currently in the US we have over 13,000 McDonalds, and according to
Ritzer the US only contains half of the worlds McDonalds (Ritzer, 2013:287). These figures show
that globally we are moving towards producing for consumers, standardized products. McDonald s
has become a company that incorporated economics, psychology and sociology in its business plan
to dominate the world of fast food. One in which many other enterprises try to emulate. American
culture has gained from the advent of McDonaldization . We have gained access to a larger supply
of goods at competitive cost. We have gained safety from increased standardization. However, the
American culture has suffered negatives from McDonaldization . The process of Mcdonaldization
extracts all that is unique about the different cultures of the world, and creates a homogenized
world with the sole goal of creating a consumer society. In this paper what the world has lost
through Mcdonaldization in contrast to what it has gained will be discussed. Also the dangers of
creating a consumer society.

with countless choices, but in fact through the process of McDonaldization many of these choices
are made for us. McDonalds in effort to

a seawolf on the beach and saves him, the seawolf wakes up after Aiden tries to take his knife
away but they see each other and seem to have a mutual agreement to just sit. Aiden and the Sea
Wolf are not alone for long, the group of monks having seen one of their friends down the beach
and abandoning Aiden earlier. But when the priests do come back they scold Aiden for saving the
barbarian, saying things like Leave it to Aiden to save a Sea Wolf... . And then the monks decide
to take the barbarian prisoner, which doesn t end well for them. At this point in the story when
religion, represented by the group monks is not present the barbarian and Aiden are peaceful. But
as soon as the priests show back up they decide to take the barbarian prisoner. This is a good
representation of why the barbarian would later have a bad attitude towards Aiden s religion. After
this the group comes across a village,

William Henry Harrison Is Not The Most Well Known President
William Henry Harrison is not the most well known President because of his extremely short
term in office before his untimely death. Before he was elected President of the United States
however, Harrison was not only the Governor of the Indiana Territory, he was also a Major
General in the Continental Army. One of the largest reasons for his successful campaign for
President was his prowess as a military tactician and his expert use of the mission command system.
During the famous Battle of Tippecanoe, Governor Harrison demonstrated excellent mission
command through his use of the six doctrinal tenants and decisively won the battle for American
colonials, thus creating the ability to continue expansion westward and weakening British... Show

Commanders continuously develop, test, and update their understanding throughout the conduct of
operations. They actively collaborate with other commanders, the staff, and unified action partners,
to create a shared understanding. Understanding the mission is a crucial step to start the military
decision making process because not understanding the task at hand will create blurred vision of
the commander s intent for any given mission. As Governor of the Indiana Territory, Harrison
understood that the treaties with the Native Confederacy were extremely fragile. As Tecumseh
and his brother s efforts to demean the treaties value continued, Governor Harrison realized that a
conflict was inevitable inside his territory. Harrison suggested, as a means to prevent war, that the
calamity might be avoided by marching a considerable force up the Wabash and dispersing the
banditti the Prophet had collected. With the idea of preemptive attack firmly planted in his head,
he sowed the seeds for the eventual battle that later ensued. Harrison also had received intelligence
that the great Native leader Tecumseh was recruiting more warriors to his cause, which furthered
the fear that the Natives would grow stronger and eventually raid the settlers to take back some of
the lands ceded from them. This intelligence furthered the idea to Harrison that he needed to field
an army and quell the Native rebellion before it got too out of hand. The

Concert Review Essay
I would first like to start this concert review off stating that I do not know really anything about
how to play and write music, and all the aspects of getting the melody and harmony right in the
music. What might be simple and have a good steadiness throughout the music to me might be
elabrate and unsteady to the performer. When I listen to music, I do listen to the music itself but I
am more likely to relate to the lyrics so that is my main focus. So for this review, my insight on
how the music is may not be that accurate. This concert review is about Bill Miller concert. I
thought he was a great musician with a pretty good voice. He is very down to Earth not only just
talking but through his lyrics. Within the lyrics, I could hear his Native American ancestry come
alive. He played some Native American songs on what I call a Native American flute and
something similar to a claranet. Then he did some original songs with the acustic guitar and a
cover song which I will be reviewing. He first play an original song called Chasing... Show more

he did with the other song which projects more emotion and heart behind it. My personal opinion

Stevenson s Use of Literary Techniques to Portray Evil in...
This essay will focus on how Robert Louis Stevenson presents the nature of evil through his
novel The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde . Using ideas such as duality, the technique
used to highlight the two different sides of a character or scene, allegories, an extended
metaphor which has an underlying moral significance, and hypocrisy; in this book the Victorians
being against all things evil but regularly taking part in frown able deeds that would not be
approved of in a respectable society. This links in with the idea of secrecy among people and also
that evil is present in everyone. The novel also has strong ties and is heavily influenced by religion.

This gives the impression that Hyde is a monster than comes out only when it is dark and
nobody can see him. Whatever he is, he cannot be called human. In Victorian England, if a
person looked ugly, criminal like or giving an impression of deformity they were considered to
be ugly and criminal like inside to. If you imagine a person reading this story when that was
what was thought, the description of Mr Hyde would instantly label him as the bad character.
During the story Hyde s actions compounds our first impressions of him. Stevenson never says
exactly what Hyde takes pleasure in on his nightly forays but it is thought to be of things that
would ruin Jekyll s reputation if they ever came out. There is thought to be strong ties to drugs,
alcohol addiction and other dangerous dealings; he had once visited her (the maid s) master and
for whom she had conceived a dislike . In the very first chapter, Mr Enfield tells his friend, Mr
Utterson, a story where he witnessed a strange looking man walking along a deserted street, who
trampled calmly over (a) child s body and left her screaming on the ground when they collided.
When Mr Utterson approaches Hyde in the street, Hyde shrinks back with a hissing intake . The
word hissing procures up the image in the mind of a snake, like the devil in the form of a serpent
in the bible. During the book there are many references and motifs to hell and evil; really like

The Second Parasitic Infection After Malaria
Schistosomiasis is the second parasitic infection after malaria (kiros et al., 2014) and is a
standout amongst the most pervasive and disregarded illnesses of tropical and subtropical areas
(rizk and aly, 2015). B. alexandrina snails are the intermediate host of Schistosoma mansoni (le
Clec h et al. 2016) with high prevalence in Egypt (el Sheikh et al., 2012). Control of B.
alexandrina upsets the life cycle of the parasite (el Sherbini et al., 2009) and contains a critical
component in coordinated methodologies for lessening the spread of schistosomiasis(rocha Filho et
al., 2015). Manufactured molluscicides is an imperative part in the incorporated
schistosomiasis control programs. The high cost of these molluscicides and their negative
effect on the earth being poisonous to creatures of land and water (salem et al., 2014; world
health organization, 2014), have stimulated interest for quest for plant molluscicides (otarigho

molluscicidal agents for B. alexandrina control (el Sherbini et al., 2009) as these plants are less
costly, less unsafe to the earth and having a high level of degradability (salawu and odaibo, 2011;

medicinal plant referred as a miracle tree (radovich, 2009). It is discovered broadly dispersed in

Eve Harrington Compare And Contrast
I can say with certainty that the film adaptation did a much better job at presenting the tale of Eve
Harrington than the original short story did, primarily because the movie allowed me to feel for
the characters. In the short story, I didn t get to see what happened, but rather Margola telling what
happened. Unlike the film, there are no flashbacks to the story itself, so I wasn t really able to
actually visualize it. Most of the short storyis just Margola talking to Karen inside the car, so in a
sense, it s neither telling nor showing. It s showing telling, and that isn t very entertaining to see or
imagine. Additionally, because the events surrounding Eve had already happened, I was also unable

The social control perspective reminds us that protection objectives may be used to generate
and perpetuate control in our life. In the history of film, many directors try to create films with a
setting of relation of power between looking and being looked at. Some of the films illustrate
how the reality being present through the forms of surveillance, social engineering and message

like, and provides more persuasive and obvious messages. Wong Kar Wai s In the Mood for Love

In this film, diegetic sounds and non diegetic sounds effectively help explain the scenarios through
the nature awareness. Kubrick first states that the main concept of the film is forced more on a
visual experience than anything else; however, the layers of sound have actually created a strong
impact and attract the audience s attention. Kubrick demonstrates the nature of humanity by using
the relationships with technology, violence, sexuality, and social awareness. The film first
introduces the importance of violence through the apes that the violence seems to be a way to
control others, no matter in the animal world or the humanity society. In the sequence, The Dawn
of Man, one of the important scenes illustrates how apes find tools and use them as weapons to
fight with each other. Later, the sequence shows an ape holding the tools and hitting the ground
with the tools along with a dramatic non diegetic sound emphasizing the significance of the scene,
and this scene also foreshadows that the violence will gradually get more serious relating to the
human society later in the film. Other then the sounds, Kubrick also uses jump cuts from the ape to
the monolith, then back to the ape followed by the animal bodies hitting the ground, finally cutting
between the ape and the tool hitting the ground. With the shots, Kubrick exaggerates the violence
to call attention to the action, so introducing how violence will play an effective role in the rest of
the film, as well as how violence influences the behavior of human as they

Stylistic Features Of Ode On The Spring
The English Lyric has long been regarded as magnificent and glorious. It has been said that the
lyric of the post sixteenth century releases an intense overflow of feelings and emotions. Every
poet must be an artist and requires wit and imagination in order to bring out an excellent piece of
art. In the lyric, the poet uses a rhythmical and an elaborate mode of speech and he must always be
in control while writing. The poet must communicate his feeling and each lyric has its own
predestined structure. One cannot separate the form from the meaning of the lyric. This is because
the rhythm, stylistic features, and other concepts play a crucial role in the meaning.

Thomas Gray and William Cowper. In the poem Ode On The Spring by Thomas Gray, the reader
comes across an elaborated view of spring and its beauties. It is shown that for Gray, spring

spring brings along magnificent sunrises and also a beautiful and pleasing atmosphere. This
can be seen through words such as rosy bosomed hours and thro the clear blue sky . The words
purple year are a reference to Virgil s ver purpureum and Alexander Pope s lavish nature paints

with it: a broader browner shade . It seems that spring is not appreciated by an excessive amount
of people: how little are the Proud . Moreover, Gray expresses that too few are able to understand
the beauty of spring: How indigent the Great . The insects are described as eager and also seem to

The Roles Of Compressions In The Epic Of Beowulf
The oral culture of the Anglo Saxons was the only way tales of their history were passed down
through generations. Throughout the epic poem of Beowulf, digressions are presented through the
concept of giving advice or remembrance to their ancestors. The digressions within the epic poem
are at times ambiguous. However, they play a large role in the underlying perception for the
character s actions. The digression that illustrates the story of King Finn was implemented to
uncover the uncertainly of Hrothgar s Queen, Wealhtheow.

wergeld seemed to be the law of the land for a murder, the Danes still attached and retaliated
against the Frisians during King Finn s rein. Weahtheow was submerged past the initial message of
the digression. She spoke highly of Beowulf, though she was implying that she was not willing to

Oppression In Carl Ratner s Miss Julie
In the same way the protagonist in Miss Julie seems to be in a constant struggle with herself to
reconcile her furious nature with the demands of the social dictates of Victorian standards. What
happens with Miss Julie in the play was nothing more than the systematic oppression of the female
gender in same manner as appeared in the earlier two play. In a society such as the Victorian one,
femaleoppression, her objectification and social subjugation may have, consequently, made female
hatred toward men a typical phenomenon. Carl Ratner says:
Psychology of oppression refers, first and foremost, to the fact that oppressed psychology is the
subjective processes that sustain oppression within the victims of oppression. Oppressed
psychology is oppressive, oppressing psychology. It is not the passive result of oppression, but an
active reproducing of oppression by consciousness/subjectivity/agency (Ratner, 2011). ... Show

Happiness Is A Personal And Multi Dimensional Notion
Happiness is usually expressed as the point to which an individual assesses the total worth of his
or her existence as a whole positively (Veenhoven, 1993), and regularly, considered on an ordinal
scale of answers to biased questions. Most experimental findings consume various kinds of self
reported ideals on happiness or particular well being dignified from various scaling methods.
Happiness is a personal and multi dimensional notion every distinct person depicts it in a diverse
way, it is comparative, and it is determine by an extensive range of influences, involving individual
personalities. Consequently, allowing it to be assessable and creating causal relationships a task.
The information and experimental studies distinguish between the natures of happiness and

recognised ideas overlap through the proposal on happiness and are separated into numerous
categories. In this study, the main ideas associated to happiness and their factors are shortened in
order to pinpoint the major distinctions between the suggested terms and to determine the
theoretical agenda. The pursuit for happiness is significant and is a must to human beings. It is a
situation that majority of people attempt to accomplish. Many of us can account, at least at some

Relative Reactivities of Different Types of Hydrogen Atoms...
The purpose of this experiment was to determine the relative reactivities of different types of
hydrogen atoms toward bromine atoms. Although the tested compounds were all arenes, their
reactivities differ as they contain different types of hydrogens. The hydrogens could be of three
different types and could also differ in being bonded to carbons that are attached to a different
number of other carbons. The three different types of hydrogens that could be found were
aromatic, aliphatic, and benzylic. The first category is aromatic hydrogens, which are attached to
sp2 carbons or are those directly bonded to an aromatic ring. Aromatic hydrogens are the least
reactive of the hydrogens in this experiment. The second type of hydrogen being investigated is
aliphatic hydrogens, which are found bonded to an SP3 hybridized carbon which are bonded to
another SP3 hybridized carbon. Aliphatic hydrogens can also be broken down into further
categories according to their number of substituents into primary (less reactive), secondary (more
reactive), and tertiary (most reactive). The third type of hydrogens are benzylic hydrogens, which
are bonded to a SP3 hybridized carbon that is bonded to a benzenering. Benzylic hydrogens are also
broken into primary and secondary categories according to their substituents, and are all more
reactive than aliphatic and aromatic hydrogens.

Coastal Ecosystems In Florida
Florida s coastal ecosystems are one of the greatest assets that Florida has today. An ecosystem is an
interacting and interdependent community made up of both living and non living parts.
Ecosystems include the air, water, soil, and sunlight as well as all the living organisms present, from
the simplest amoeba to the plants
and more complex animals that are all a part of the system.
There is no size
limitation for ecosystems, the entire earth can be considered as a one
ecosystem. And so with more coastline than any other state in the contiguous United States, it is a
source of economic, environmental and recreational benefits. People come from all over the world
to visit the beautiful Florida beaches.1 Coastal uplands are composed of substrate and vegetation
influenced primarily by coastal maritime processes such as erosion, deposition, salt spray, and
storms with storm surges. Coastal uplands also consist of mesic or xeric communities restricted to
barrier islands and near shore with woody or herbaceous vegetation. Other communities that can be

mind set on the path I had chosen changed. In April of 2011 my senior year of high school I had
visited Friends University during my Spring Break. Honestly, I was not at all excited to visit the
campus. Living in Chicago, IL all my life, the thought of going to school in Kansas did not spark
my interest. Once I arrived on campus my attitude on how I felt changed. The first thing I ... Show

Thinking about why I didn t feel happy about ballet anymore made me very upset. There were
many nights where I would cry myself to sleep thinking about it. I knew that I enjoyed dancing,
but was unsure if I wanted to major in that field. Realizing the struggle a ballet dancer has to live
every day to survive in this world made me think twice that I just did not have the dedication that
is needed to be a professional in a Ballet Company. When I thought of the jobs after college in the
field of Zoo Science it made me happy to think about. Even though working in a Zoo or some
type of job similar to that would take a lot of dedication and effort, it made me smile. Thinking
over and over about my tough decision made me see that I was just tired of ballet and it is not
that I didn t love ballet; I was just tired of consuming my whole life for it. My heart was telling
that I wanted and needed to explore something new in my life. After making my decision that
switching my major to Zoo Science would be a better career path. I felt happy again returning
back at Friends after Thanksgiving break. I knew exactly what I wanted to tell my advisor in
Ballet. Telling Sharon the news that I felt switching my major to Zoo Science from Ballet was
what would make me happy for my future after college was a huge stress reliever. I felt a huge
weight lifted off my shoulder and I felt much

Tom Landry
From September 11, 1924 (Moritz 270), through the late 1960 s, Tom Landry accomplished a lot
of things in his life, and set new trends for many years to come. Whether it be high school
football star, or flying combat missions with the United States Air Force. Whether it be playing
collegiate football, and really excelling, or actually moving on to a professional football career.
Whether it be transforming from player to coach, and leading way for years to come and different
programs; Tom Landryhad experienced it all. Tom Landry was a great coach and player, whose
leadership made him a hero, and a prestigious name in the football world. Tom Landry was born in
Mission, Texas(Moritz 270). Landry really excelled in football at the high... Show more content on

After one year with the New York Yankees, the team merged with the New York Giants(Moritz
270). Landry played cornerback for the Giants for a six years (Moritz 270). Tom Landry had a
successful career as a football player, including achievements such as [ranking] sixth in the
Giants record books in pass interceptions (Whittingham 84), and being named to the All Pro
defensive team (Moritz 270) in 1954. This is the same year he began his assistant coaching
position with the New York Giants. This is when his historical coaching career began. In 1954,
Landry was named the assistant defensive coach for the New York Giants (cemetery.state). He
was not the only historical coach in the New York Giants program at the time. He coached
alongside Vince Lombardi. The tandem of Landry and Lombardi stands as the greatest assistant
coaching partnership in the history of the NFL (Whittingham 84). In 1956, Landry decided to
stop playing football, and hang it up for other opportunities. This would be coaching full time. In
1956, [Landry] became the Giants full time defensive coach. (Moritz 270). During this time period
is when Landry created a defensive formation that is still around today, although most do not know
who invented it. The 4 3 defense. He changed the teams normal 6 1 defense, to a 4 3 defense. The
4 3 formation is a common defensive formation in football today. During Landry s stint with the

Patients should also be engaged in exercises in order to reduce weight. Overweight and obese
patients pose a huge problem in management of bed sores. They are rigid, immobile and very
inactive. The suggested exercises are advised to be considered for reduction of weight, increasing
flexibility of joints, promote blood flow as well as strengthening of muscles and bones. These
exercises should be supplemented with proper feeding, repositioning as well as other methods used
to reduce pressure sores.
Distribution devices These are pressure redistribution equipment and are used to distribute patients

This was compared to the normal ICU beds, which are noted to propagate formation of bed sores.
Other types of weight pressure distribution tools include beds that are air fluidized, turning beds,
beds with lower air loss, water filled beds, fiber filled beds, silicone filled beds as well as bead
filled beds.
Repositioning
Repositioning of patients prone to pressure sores refers to turning these patients in order to
promote aeration and prevent excessive pressure being exerted on one body part for a long time.
Research has demonstrated that turning of these patients every 4 hours with foam mattresses
developed from visco elastic polyurethane has superiority in outcome compared with lack of
turning of these patients. The same research indicated that turning these patients every 4 hours has
better outcome in reducing risk of grade 1 and grade 2 bed sores than turning them once daily on
the same foam mattresses. This 4 hour turning schedule also has been shown to have little
significant results compared a 2 hour turning schedule on the foam mattresses made of visco elastic
polyurethane (Vanderwee, Grypdonck, De, Defloor, 2007). Nursing interventions in repositioning
of these bedridden patients include occasional turning of these patients from one side to the next.
The basis for this is to facilitate air circulation and relieving body

  • 2. Essay on A Brief Overview of Walter Mitty A Brief Overview of Walter Mitty In the short story, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty by James Thurber, many interesting fantasies occur in a way which brings the reader into a different world. The story switches back and forth from delusion to reality, dragging the reader into a life, perhaps similar to their own. In the beginning of this story, the first paragraph is a fantasy of the main character, Walter Mitty. It describes his life as a commander of an aircraft. An intense scene is displayed showing what Walter Mitty wishes would be reality. It is not until the next paragraph that one discovers this reality. His wife then interrupts the scene, bringing Walter Mitty back into his everyday life, one which is far less exciting to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The formalistic approach for analyzing this would be most appropriate in order to pick out the elements such as setting, irony, imagery and metaphorical factors. These are organized in such a way that the formatting consumes the story. In this tale, the first important element would be the introduction of the setting. Throughout the story, the author writes across multiple settings because of these flashbacks that he displays. The first setting would be on an airplane with two introductory characters; The Commander and Lieutenant Berg . This beginning setting is seen as a guessing game to begin with as the dialogue becomes the most prominent use in this introduction. Once the setting is described more clearly as the paragraph moves forward, the reader will grasp an understanding of where these two characters are. However, soon after the reader s mind may be clarified, the scene is interrupted with the dialogue of a new character, Mrs. Mitty. Not so fast! You re driving too fast! Said Mrs. Mitty. What are you driving so fast for? (Thurber 1). This is the first example one has of the basic structure that this story will set forth. The organization of this story goes from what was described in the introductory paragraph as a flashback, to the interrupting dialogue of Mrs. Mitty. As she yells, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

State of the art design capabilities allow creation of innovative plastic designs that have earned international acclaim. Attention to detail, extreme precision, and enthusiastic quality controls are the hallmarks of Riordan Manufacturing with facilities in San Jose, California, Albany, Georgia, Pontiac, Michigan, and Hangzhou, China (Apollo Group, 2005, 2006). The slow consolidation of the operational processes of the different divisions with different non compatible operation software has become a financial threat to Riordan Manufacturing. Investing in an integrated computer system for its finance and accounting department will increase Riordan s productivity without greatly affecting its ability to repay its debts. Budget A detailed written budget for Riordan Manufacturing Incorporated is available. The budget explains where the company will obtain the money for the new finance and accounting (F and A) system. The existing system is obsolete. The system is costing the company time and money because of the manual processes in place for financial reporting. A major reason for the issues concerning the current F and A system is that each of the facilities has a different F and A system that is not compatible with the others (Apollo Group, 2005, 2006). The lack of compatibility shows up in the form of different types of data that the finance staff receives. This data includes information provided by facilities via hardcopy reports and must be re entered. Some of the data received is via data files but the information is not in the correct format. The result is to convert the data or redirect the data to the proper account codes. This can be a logistical nightmare for any company because there are so many methods for records keeping. Consolidation of these records will be highly challenging for Riordan while trying to implement and training staff on how to use the new system (Apollo Group, 2005, 2006). The Man Who Died Twice and Tristram The last two of these won Pulitzer Prizes in 1925 and 1927, when he was elected as a member of the National Academy of Arts and Letters. A few of his most known poems are, The Children of the Night Captain Craig The Town Down the River The Man against the Sky The Three Taverns and Avon s Harvest. He had 3 Pulitzer prizes awarded to him. For the first twenty years of Robinson s writing career, he had difficulty in getting published and attracting an audience. He published his first two volumes privately and friends secretly guaranteed the publication of the third. He did receive positive reviews from the beginning, however, and with the publication of The Man Against the Sky in 1916 his reputation was secure. For the rest of his life he was widely regarded as quot;America s foremost poet, quot; as William Stanley Braithwaite put it. Both academics and the general public held him in high esteem, as attested by the fact of his winning three Pulitzer Prizes for poetry for volumes published in 1921, 1924, and 1927, when his Tristram became a national best seller. • 6. The Impact Of Religion On Human Culture For centuries, human culture has been influenced in a multitude of ways by many means but none have had such an impact as religion. It has had countless wars waged in its name, even to this day. Billions believe in some divine being(s) that transcends the ugliness of humanity that s omnipotent and omniscient. Religion became a guide and a representation of how our lives should be led. However, history has brought evidence that made it possible for this notion to be criticized and rather, flipped. The majority of the humanrace believes that religion shaped our culture but it is rather the other way round, in that the culture of our ancestors, the Mesopotamians and the Hebrews shaped religion to explain the natural world and as a reflection of their lives and tribulations. During the age of Mesopotamia, climate change was still a key factor in the survival of civilizations but did not work on a global scale as it did before during cooling and warming periods. One day of bad weather could destroy a year s worth of crops for a family and displace them without any means of self sustainability. It would be a millennium until food could be brought to the area again. To the average human living in Mesopotamia at the time, this would have been chaos, living in fear for when everything that was earned would be destroyed. This erratic behavior of nature could not be summed up as one god for there were no rhythms or patterns to be discern so to compensate for that, each aspect of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the short story, I didn t get to see what happened, but rather Margola telling what happened. Unlike the film, there are no flashbacks to the story itself, so I wasn t really able to actually visualize it. Most of the short storyis just Margola talking to Karen inside the car, so in a sense, it s neither telling nor showing. It s showing telling, and that isn t very entertaining to see or imagine. Additionally, because the events surrounding Eve had already happened, I was also unable to witness how they affected Margola. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some of the films illustrate how the reality being present through the forms of surveillance, social engineering and message control. In other words, films are ways to tell the audience, or the public, how the society looks like, and provides more persuasive and obvious messages. Kubrick first states that the main concept of the film is forced more on a visual experience than anything else; however, the layers of sound have actually created a strong impact and attract the audience s attention. Kubrick demonstrates the nature of humanity by using the relationships with technology, violence, sexuality, and social awareness. The film first introduces the importance of violence through the apes that the violence seems to be a way to control others, no matter in the animal world or the humanity society. In the sequence, The Dawn of Man, one of the important scenes illustrates how apes find tools and use them as weapons to fight with each other. Later, the sequence shows an ape holding the tools and hitting the ground with the tools along with a dramatic non diegetic sound emphasizing the significance of the scene, and this scene also foreshadows that the violence will gradually get more serious relating to the human society later in the film. Other then the sounds, Kubrick also uses jump cuts from the ape to the monolith, then back to the ape followed by the animal bodies hitting the ground, finally cutting between the ape and the tool hitting the ground. With the shots, Kubrick exaggerates the violence to call attention to the action, so introducing how violence will play an effective role in the rest of the film, as well as how violence influences the behavior of human as they ... It has been said that the lyric of the post sixteenth century releases an intense overflow of feelings and emotions. Every poet must be an artist and requires wit and imagination in order to bring out an excellent piece of art. In the lyric, the poet uses a rhythmical and an elaborate mode of speech and he must always be in control while writing. The poet must communicate his feeling and each lyric has its own predestined structure. One cannot separate the form from the meaning of the lyric. This is because the rhythm, stylistic features, and other concepts play a crucial role in the meaning. The Lyric was the dominant form of poetry in the seventeenth century. One can understand ... The words purple year are a reference to Virgil s ver purpureum and Alexander Pope s lavish nature paints the purple year and through these words, Thomas Gray wants to show the reader the power and brightness of spring through the poetic conventions and style which are celebrating nature s beauty. However, they play a large role in the underlying perception for the character s actions. The digression that illustrates the story of King Finn was implemented to uncover the uncertainly of Hrothgar s Queen, Wealhtheow. In a society such as the Victorian one, femaleoppression, her objectification and social subjugation may have, consequently, made female hatred toward men a typical phenomenon. Carl Ratner says: Psychology of oppression refers, first and foremost, to the fact that oppressed psychology is the subjective processes that sustain oppression within the victims of oppression. The purpose of this experiment was to determine the relative reactivities of different types of hydrogen atoms toward bromine atoms. Although the tested compounds were all arenes, their reactivities differ as they contain different types of hydrogens. The hydrogens could be of three different types and could also differ in being bonded to carbons that are attached to a different number of other carbons. The three different types of hydrogens that could be found were aromatic, aliphatic, and benzylic. The first category is aromatic hydrogens, which are attached to sp2 carbons or are those directly bonded to an aromatic ring. Aromatic hydrogens are the least reactive of the hydrogens in this experiment. The second type of hydrogen being investigated is aliphatic hydrogens, which are found bonded to an SP3 hybridized carbon which are bonded to another SP3 hybridized carbon. Aliphatic hydrogens can also be broken down into further categories according to their number of substituents into primary (less reactive), secondary (more reactive), and tertiary (most reactive). The third type of hydrogens are benzylic hydrogens, which are bonded to a SP3 hybridized carbon that is bonded to a benzenering.
