Introduction
This article seeks to determine if alcohol hand sanitizers are as effective as
antiseptic handwashing at reducing or eliminating health care associated infections in a
neonatal intensive care unit. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Atlanta,
GA, recommends use of waterless alcohol hand products in lieu of traditional
handwashing for patient care, but there is little data demonstrating the impact of this
recommendation on health associated infections.

Findings/Interpretation
Numerous studies have confirmed the efficacy of alcohol based products, reported
microbicidal effects of hand sanitizer containing 61% ethanol and emollients (ALC) as
good or superior to those of other antiseptics. Several studies have shown better removal
of methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus or vancomycin resistant enterococci from

the hands of health care workers by ALC when compared with antiseptic detergent
containing 2% chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG). A recent study by Pittet,, J.M., showed
over a three year period that when the use of alcohol rubs increased from 3.5 to 16.4

A standout amongst relationships in modern literature is the strange relationship between
Ignatius Reilly and Myrna Minkoff, the two dunces in John Kennedy Toole s A Confederacy of
Dunces. The correspondence between them keeps running all through the novel. In the
beginning, Ignatius feels a specific quality of predominance over her, yet she feels that he has
put some distance between reality, and she proposes to start to control his activities. Ignatius
wants to beat Myrna at her own game. She really cares about him, even writing her thoughts on
how to better his life. In three separate endeavors to calm her unwavering feedback and
recommendations, he considers her advice, each time completely failing and causing more
trouble for himself. However, toward the end of the novel, in a comedic irony, she spares him
from mental and physical imprisonment. Ignatius is a Catholic medievalist who rejects the
cutting edge world and all its decline (or so he says). Myrna, then again, pursues each hipster
person occurrence and pattern. She is fixated on sex less on the grounds that she really needs to
engage in sexual relations constantly, it just seems that in light of the fact that being fixated on sex
is the thing to do in this modern world. Thus, she grasps cutting edge activism and gets a
progression of small crushes on guys who appear to be activists (who all end up being fakes).
