The Drought Stricken State’S Climate Leaves Its’ Water
The drought stricken State s climate leaves its water supply to be volatile and unpredictable, creating a
hash reality for all demanders of the scarce resource. In the worst of times California s climate is
destructive to the wellbeing of not only Californian s quality of life, but the surrounding ecosystems.
With unseasonably higher temperatures presenting issues farther into the future, in Adapting
California s water management to climate change , the authors Ellen Hanak and Jay Lund provide an
overview of the effects California s climate has during times of drought, and the complications it
presents for the State s water management. Water management in the state oversee a plethora of
concerns; properly planning supply and delivery ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Delta is the lifeblood of California s water supply system, but when sea levels rise more and more
of the levee system that blockades the salt and fresh water erodes, it leads to what is known as
seawater intrusion. More simply, the contamination of freshwater by its salty counterpart. This process
happens at varying rates, disrupting the water supply at a snail s pace or more in abundance, leaving a
rippling effect to be felt for months, or even years. Climates effects on snowpack levels is far more
measurable, where warming temperatures lead to higher levels of winter runoff. Thus depleting the
snowpack earlier in the year, and leaving less for the spring and summer months to follow. Inversely,
the average precipitations effects on the water supply are less measurable, due to the inability to
correctly asses the amount of total runoff derived from precipitations role as the catalyst of the melting
process. Measurements of this kind must be more than just an estimate, Hanak and Lund cite that It is
likely to be decades before we know if and by how much precipitation and runoff volumes are
changing (pg 20). But precipitations effects on snowpack volume must remain relevant, the effects of
reduced runoff due to decreased precipitation appear to be much more important than

Rachel Williams Monologue
The thunder clapped against the sky, sounding like thousands of galloping horses. There was no sign
of human life except for the truck and luxury horse trailer that zoomed by. Hard rain hit the trailer,
making loud thuds against it s rusted metal. A young teenager with brown curly hair, freckles, and blue
eyes sat in the back seat of the red truck. The girl glanced at the camper/trailer behind them and
sighed. Mom, when will we get there? The rain is scaring Thomas. the girl said, referring to the horse
in the large trailer. Allison, I have already told you that we won t be there for another two hours. her
mother replied. Allison groaned and stared out her window at the world around her. What a gloomy

Close that window! her father yelled. Allison held her finger down on a small button until her window
locked shut, showing her the always unsatisfying reflection. She leaned over to grab her cinch strap
bag. She opened the bag and pulled out her phone and headphones, connecting the two quietly. She
slid the headphones over her ears as she pressed the play button on her music playlist. Only two more
hours she thought as she curled up into a ball. Crunching rocks filled the girl s ears as she woke up.
Allison was unaware that she had ever fallen asleep. She opened her eyes and glanced at her phone,
which had stopped playing music about an hour ago, based on the fact that it had reached the end of
the playlist. Wake up honey, we re here, Allison s mother whispered. Allison sat up straight and looked
out her window. The sun was shining bright for the first time in ages. Allison suddenly spotted her
friends walking their horses to the stables. Kate! Sarah! She yelled as she opened her window. Allison
s parents stopped next to the stables so Allison could greet her friends and bring her horse, Thomas, to
his stall. Allison bounced out the door and ran towards her

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Recycled Aggregates
The recycled aggregates can undergo some processing procedures and adaptation to the desired
characteristics. Some of these processes are: homogenisation, crushing and screening and autogenous
cleaning. The homogenisation process Material aims to standardise and remove waste materials such
as wood, steel, plastics, among others. Initially, construction waste and demolition are separated by the
predominant color: gray or red. It is then performed quartering, where the material is distributed in
different layers along a plastic and from the middle section, they are divided into several sections
entitled cells. The material is then sent to a crusher where grinding occurs (Kwan, Ramli, Kam and
Sulieman, 2012).

In general, the durability of concrete covers directly on the ease or difficulty of fluid transport within
the concrete, and classified as a concrete or too little permeable. The main transport agent fluid is
water in the concrete, which may be pure or contain aggressive agents, such as dioxide carbon and
oxygen. The displacement of these elements will depend on the concrete structure hydrated cement
paste (Neville, 1997). THE Concrete durability of recycled aggregates also it depends on the ease or
otherwise of transport these fluids. Olorunsogo and Padayachee (2002) studied properties related to
the durability of concrete as the conductivity of chloride ions, sortividade permeability to oxygen and
water, containing percentages of 0%, 50% and 100% replacement of natural aggregates by recycled.
The results showed that the durability decreases increases in proportion as the percentage of
replacement for all properties evaluated. However, these properties improve with increasing age and
with percentages of 50% recycled aggregates in the

They arrived at the headquarters building which was really a six story business building located in
downtown Dublin. The headquarters occupied the lower floor only, this was because the first floor had
a lot of window light which they needed because there was no electricity. There was further evidence
of the recent bombing by United States aircraft. General Grayston was a believer now with the recent
close call he had with the P 51 Mustangs. The General hustled out of the Humvee and into the

believe. One Army Military Police Company came roaring to the rescue in a huge black armored train,
of a Marine Company that was attempting to link up with them. But, they ran into a well armed
Militia, together two companies wiped out an estimated five hundred Militia members. General
Grayston sat down with a thud, This can t be true? I have no reason to believe it s not. The 3rd
Infantry Division is in Savanah and clearing it out, very effectively. These reports show an Aircraft
Carrier and Battleship off the coast. That s impossible! General Grayston screamed. Well sir, maybe it
is, I haven t seen them for myself. MG Holcomb responded. We are being bombed or strafed at least
once a day, we have no idea where they are originating from. General Grayston sank deeper into his
chair, he couldn t believe it, where did the Aircraft Carrier and Battleship come from, how was it
possible? Any more good news General? Sir, moral is good, our Soldiers are prepared for the fight. I

On Sunday October 23rd at midday I had the opportunity to interview Dr. Marie Hobart from
Community Healthlink. For over twenty four years Dr. Marie Hobart has been an employee of
Community Healthlink as a psychiatrist and for the last ten to twelve years as the Chief Medical
Officer of CHL. She is also an employee of UMasss Memorial Healthcare, and a clinical associate
professor of psychiatry. Dr. Hobart s work with CHL focuses on people with serious and persistent
illness, developmental disabilities, and addiction and her goal in addition to helping patients one on

ways (Hobart). Dr. Hobart explained that she always wanted to work in health, and working with
people in the community leading her to become a public psychiatrist in the city of Worcester,
Massachusetts. As Dr. Hobart works in the Worcester public health sector as both a practicing
physician and an administrator, her dual roles create a unique position as an agent of direct community
support and an advocate for changes to the public medical system. Dr. Hobart is a medically focused
community organizer and her work is most easily tied to the Women Centered model of community
development (Stall, Stoecker; 202). Her desire to see greater connections between medical assistance
and social aid, as well as, her work that recognizes the social factors that lead to health problems

Essay on Growing Up Poor
Growing up Poor I did not realize until about the 5th grade, what being poor was all about. From
kindergarten until then, kids didn t really pay attention to what you wore to school, what type of home
you lived in, or what your parents did for a living. What mattered was how nice you were, that you
shared your toys, and took turns on the playground. Fifth grade started a whole new chapter in life. It
started with a new school with both familiar and unfamiliar faces and with that, new challenges that
included trying to fit in with your peers. Not until I started getting questions like, You get free lunch?

with a little girl named Helene Tucker, a light complexioned little girl with pigtails and nice manners.
She was always clean and she was smart in school. I think I went to school then mostly to look at her.
I brushed my hair and even got me a little old handkerchief. It was a lady s handkerchief, but I didn t
want Helene to see me wipe my nose on my hand. The pipes were frozen again, there was no water in
the house, but I washed my socks and shirt every night. I d get a pot, and go over to Mister Ben s

evening the ice melted to water for washing. I got sick a lot that winter because the fire would go out

only clothes I had. Everybody s got a Helene Tucker, a symbol of everything you want. I loved her for
her goodness, her cleanness, her popularity. She d walk down my street and my brothers and sisters
would yell, Here comes Helene, and I d rub my tennis sneakers on the back of my pants and wish my
hair wasn t so nappy and the white folks shirt fit me better. I d run out on the street. If I knew my place

Fox Hunting Should Be Banned Essay
Fox hunting is one form of hunting. It is a pursuit of a wild fox with a pack of hounds, which are
specially bred and trained for the sole purpose of fox hunting, and are followed by hunters who
usually ride on horses. When the hounds pick up the scent of a fox, they will follow it until the fox
evades them, goes to ground, or is overtaken and killed by the hounds. This form of hunting is
exercised in several countries around the world, but this essay will concentrate on fox hunting in the
United Kingdom. It has been practiced in Britain for around 300 years, with its popularity at its height
in the late 19th century. The debate concerning fox hunting has heated up in the past few years.
Those who support the hunt are driven by a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An opposing view is that the fox is not a serious threat to agriculture, and should not be considered as
a vermin. According to the League Against Cruel Sports the foxes actually help farmers by eating
small animals, such as rabbits, rats and voles, which are considered to be pests on arable land. In
addition, foxes are territorial animals, which means that once a fox is killed another soon moves into
its place from a surrounding area. Left to control their population naturally the number of foxes would
be controlled by scarcity of food, whereas when used fox hunting for controlling the populations, it
only serves to lessen the amount of the animals temporarily, for more foxes to take advantage of the
increase in food thus breeding again. Furthermore, foxes do not cause significant loss or damage in
livestock. For example the League Against Cruel Sports, an organization strongly against fox hunting,
mentions a York University study that states that only a minimal amount of 0.4% of lambs are killed
by foxes, and of other livestock the percentage is extremely low as well. According to the study foxes
are not a significant danger to livestock.
Supporters of fox hunting present the opinion that foxes do not suffer from stress or pain as a result of
the hunt. According to them, hunting with hounds allows the foxes to be killed immediately by one nip
to the back of the fox s neck, as the dogs are significantly larger than the

Technology And The Impact Of Technology
In recent years, two major aspects in technology have been steadily increasing in quantity of product
to optimize user consumer needs as well as their personalization. Through the Internet Of Things ,
technology corporates and manages information that the users go through in day to day experiences
with the help of Web 3.0 interactivity. Technology first changed the face of commercial marketing
with the use of online shopping. The internet allows for the user to buy their personal necessities
without leaving the comfort of their homes through the mobile marketing of websites and package
delivery. Take into consideration the near holiday event of cyber monday that follows the Black Friday
sales. While benefiting businesses through the platform of Ecommerce, online shopping proposes the
issue of job replacements and store discontinuations. Besides the modern desktop computer,
innovations such as mobile devices facilitate the methods of shopping. Smartphones forge the
versatility of banking and mobile purchasing using the interconnectivity of near field communications
(NFC) that opens opportunities of online transactions through the applications on mobile devices.
Technology s second commercial outbreak began with in the early 1970s with the inventions of digital
wristwatches and evolve to to popularized fitness trackers. Wearable technology, captures the essence
of minute shortcuts to lifestyle communications of the average individual. Following the mobile
market trends,

because all the departments workstations will connect to the switch that is in the same building. For
the cabling between the access and distribution layer, I have decided to use Multi Mode Fiber (MMF)
for many reasons. First, there is huge amount of data coming from the switches in the access layer to
the 3 layer switch in the distribution layer, and the MMF cable can deal with heavy traffic data.
Second, since that MMF speed is 10Gbps, that makes the 3 layer switch receive and send the data
faster to the switches in the access layer. Third, the distance between the switches in the access layer
and the 3 layer switches in the distribution layer is less than 2 km. For the core layer, I have decided to

The Industrial Revolution In America
Industrial Revolution in America
The industrial revolution in America took place in the nineteenth and twentieth century. During this
period there was mass production, modern technologies were made, people were getting rich and this
made America to be the global superpower in the world. The united states economy grew fast.
America became so rich that mark twain called it the Gilded Age
Although there Britain was the first to have access to the industrial revolution in the 17th and 18th
century, my focus will be on the American industrial revolution. Industrial revolution came into
existence after the end of the civil war. During the revolution transportation, electricity, and industrial
building came into existence and became very popular and made very significant changes in the
nation.
Transportations like the railroad which was linked to different communities and states was built,
steamboats, the Eerie canal, and road were also built. Although railroad was in existence during the
start of the civil war it became more popular after the end of the civil war.
During the 1860s, the Central Pacific Railroad started building rail track from Sacramento, California.
While the Union Pacific started laying tracks from Nebraska. In 1869, this made both tracks to meet at
a place in Utah, this enabled the united states to travel by train from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific
Ocean. The development of Railroad continued all through the 1800s with rail tracks spreading in

Argumentative Essay On Technology
Technology Research When people think about the word technology, most people think about
computers, cell phones, ipads, and the latest versions we are lucky enough to play with if we are
willing to pay the high price. Technology such as computers, have been around since the early 1940 s.
According to Spicer, the first computer made was called The Z3, built by German engineer, Konrad
Zuse. The Z3 computer was used for aerodynamic calculations, but was later destroyed in a bombing
in 1943. Technology has always been a benefit for physical education and special education classes.
Rosengard stated on the SPARK website, that Teaching physical education can be challenging for any
number of reasons, from a lack of equipment to keeping students engaged. He later then stated that To
meet these challenges, some educators are turning to technology to create more dynamic classes that
work for students with a wide range of fitness levels. Physical education classes have been lucky to be
able to use pedometers, heart rate monitors, stopwatches, etc to be able to physically see and record
how healthy their body is. When physical education classes started, teachers were lucky enough to
have a pencil, notepad, and a clock on the wall that they used for a stopwatch. Before technology
exploded, it was hard to record much of the information we are able to record and chart with
technology today. With nearly 100% of public schools and colleges having access to the internet,

Psychodynamic Theory During The s Dr. Paul Weston
In Treatment s Dr. Paul Weston appears to largely use psychodynamic theory during his sessions with
Sophie, the teenaged gymnast who is seeing him after an accident which is believed to have been a
potential suicide attempt. However, as is the case with most therapists, Paul does not focus solely on
psychodynamics when treating Sophie, drawing on the universal qualities of all therapists as well as
some cognitive techniques. There are several instances of this unique blend of techniques throughout
Sophie s episodes, as well as the continual theme of psychodynamics that seems to be Paul s main
practicing theory. The role of the therapist regardless of their theoretical orientation is to convey to
their clients that they are there to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While the claim itself is important for creating a sort of holding environment within the therapy room,
it is also more likely to be effective if it is actually practiced and backed by actions which Paul does.
Regardless of the number of times that Sophie accuses him, yells at him and in one memorable
instance, destroys a decoration in his office, he remains and calm and does not criticize her for her
anger or resentment, merely tries to help her understand what is causing it, without passing judgement
on her for it.
While those are some of the more universal aspects of both therapy and the nature of the therapist that
Paul recreates with Sophie, there are also some theoretical perspective specificities that come through
their sessions. While it doesn t play a major role and only truly appears during their later sessions,
there are instances where Pau employs some cognitive therapy techniques to try and help Sophie. The
key feature of cognitive therapy is that it is our general thoughts or schemas that shape how we
interpret and perceive the world around us and that it is those thoughts and interpretation that produce
our emotional and behavior reactions to situations and events, not the situation itself. In Sophie s case
this would reflect

The Effects Of Soda On High School Vending Machines...
You may be familiar with recent regulation, which was initiated for the 2014 15 school year, where the
United States Department of Agriculture enforced regulatory guidelines on food items sold in schools
across the nation. Although there was previously a nutritional requirement for food in school, as
Marion Nestle, a Professor of Nutrition at New York University, points out in her very influential
article of the time, this requirement [did] not apply to foods sold outside of school cafeterias in snack
bars, school stores, or vending machines (Nestle 308). Many proponents of the recent regulation are
astonished that such regulation was not in place from the beginning. Unfortunately, this action was
influenced by an ever rising concern for the obesity rate in the US population, and not a desire to
proactively encourage a healthy lifestyle. The history of soda in high school vending machines carries
with it heavy economic interest, a plethora of lobbying and some imperative details, which we may
find useful in our consideration of diet soda. Coca Cola and PepsiCo are the two major companies that
compete in the soft drink arena. By the late 1990s these companies were already well established in
high school vending machines, but the competitive market required quite a bit more action (Nestle
310). In fact the companies began to, as Nestle claims, view school children as an attractive marketing
opportunity, and use every possible means to promote their products to this young,

would certainly do well turning a true story into a full length feature film. Mr. Stone had the task of

amateur, Mt. Stone s experience in the area of human interactions shown through in every part of the

Essay about Napoleons Farwell Address Speech Analysis
Napoleon s Farewell Address To The Old Guard
A truly dramatic moment in history occurred on April 20, 1814, as Napoleon Bonaparte, Emperor of
France and would be ruler of Europe said goodbye to the Old Guard after his failed invasion of Russia
and defeat by the Allies.
By that time, Napoleon had ruled France and surrounding countries for twenty years. Originally an
officer in the French Army, he had risen to become Emperor among the political chaos following the
French Revolution in which the old ruling French kings and nobility had been destroyed.
Napoleon built a 500,000 strong Army, which used modern tactics and improvisation in battle to
sweep across Europe and acquire an Empire for France.
But in 1812, the seemingly invincible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Soldiers of my Old Guard: I bid you farewell. For twenty years I have constantly accompanied you on
the road to honor and glory. In these latter times, as in the days of our prosperity, you have invariably
been models of courage and fidelity. With men such as you our cause could not be lost; but the war
would have been interminable; it would have been civil war, and that would have entailed deeper
misfortunes on France.
I have sacrificed all of my interests to those of the country.
I go, but you, my friends, will continue to serve France. Her happiness was my only thought. It will
still be the object of my wishes. Do not regret my fate; if I have consented to survive, it is to serve
your glory. I intend to write the history of the great achievements we have performed together. Adieu,
my friends. Would I could press you all to my heart.
Napoleon Bonaparte April 20, 1814
Following this, Napoleon was sent into exile on the little island of Elba off the coast of Italy. But ten
months later, in March of 1815, he escaped back into France. Accompanied by a thousand men from
his Old Guard he marched toward Paris and gathered an army of supporters along the way.
Once again, Napoleon assumed the position of Emperor, but it lasted only 100 days until the battle of
Waterloo and was defeated by the English and Prussian Armies on June 18, 1815.
A month later he was sent into exile on the island of St. Helena off the coast of Africa. On May 5,

The s Stone, By J.k Rowling
In, J.K Rowling s Philosopher s Stone there are a number of references to ancient mythologies. The
events, characters and creatures in the story are not purely fictional, most of them relate to ancient
mythology embedded in different cultures. According to Joseph Campbell, American mythologist,
when people think of mythology, they usually correlate it with Greek mythology. This is illustrated
through examples such as the dog Fluffy, the Philosopher s stone, magic numbers three and seven, and
also its characters, like Harry Potter, Dumbledore, Voldemort, and Hermione. According to Campbell,
myths provide direction, teaching young people about their own life and culture. To do so J.K.
Rowling s novel Philosopher s Stone, rewrites modern versions of ancient myths, therefore they
provide relatable guidance and teach young readers about their lives. The novel fulfils this need by
providing engaging action and supernatural events.
In Greek mythology a hero is usually born of a human woman and a god. Harry s mother was a
muggler (an ordinary person who is not a wizard) and his father was a wizard. The hero in Greek
myths fights monsters. Harry s ultimate quest is to fight Voldemort, the monster of the story. A hero is
known to be worshipped by any ordinary audience, and therefore Harry is known to be famous to all
as soon as he arrives at Hogwarts because of his tie to Voldemort. Harry is known as the boy who
survived to the wizard world. This is explained in the

The Evolution Of The Hokulea
The Evolution of the Hokulea The story of the Hokulea, a model of the first canoes that brought the
first Polynesians to Hawaii, is a story that restores cultural pride and history to Hawaiians. Her legacy
was almost extinct, but survived and restored the relationship that society has with its island home.
More than 600 years had gone by without seeing one of these canoes, until artist Herb Kane thought to
build a sailing canoe just like the ones his ancestors sailed (Hokulea.com).
Polynesia was a massive country forming a triangle that stretched between New Zealand in the west,
Rapa Nui in the east, and Hawaii in the north. This triangle covered 10 million square miles. It was
discovered by these amazing people who were like the astronauts of the time, because of their
amazing exploration skills. Remarkably, these Polynesians arrived in Hawaii 1,000 years before
Columbus sailed to the Americas. They were considered some of the greatest explorers in all of
history. These explorers were able to discover every livable land mass and island in the Pacific,
without the use of modern technology. All they had were canoes that were very similar to the Hokulea.
Polynesian explorers relied heavily on the stars, winds, waves, and other signs from nature to navigate
the ocean. Hawaii has a very historical and traditionally rooted culture, and the Hokulea is the
beginning and the very center of it. Hawaiians were able to develop the islands and mastered the art of
living sustainably.

The Working Poor Shipler Chapter 2 Summary
In David Shipler s novel, The Working Poor Shipler expresses that life is not always easy, especially
living in poverty. Shipler tries to get across to his readers that work does not always work. The main
topic addressed is ultimately the dilemmas of public aid. Shipler illustrates this in chapter 2 of his
novel by explaining the lives of three hard working woman who are stuck in the poverty cycle. Just
because these women have a job, does not mean that they are able to free themselves from poverty.
Throughout chapter 2, it references back to the life of the three hard working women who hold
minimum wage jobs; the women make between $6 and $7 per hour and attempt to make a living with
help from the government through Medicaid, welfare checks, and food stamps. The issue with this is

Majority of the women s money goes to two major things; expenses on day care and food for their

It is because the women are hardly home because they are out working to make a living that the
children are in need of quick, easy to make foods. Most foods that require little to no cooking typically
fall under the unhealthy or junk food category. If the kids are always exposed to bad eating habits then

Pros And Cons Of Zero Tolerance Policing
This study is aimed to investigate zero tolerance policing and the implementation of its policies into
society. By focusing on the pros and cons of this type of policing it will answer the overall question on
whether or not zero tolerance policing is efficient and effective within society. The theories behind
zero tolerance policing can provide specific reasons for why or why not policing needs more or less
discretion when performing certain functions. There are certain legal aspects that back up decisions
made by officers and targeting the statistical data provides the rates of effectiveness with zero
tolerance policing. Zero tolerance policing is data based upon implementation, the needs of the people
backed with the results of implementation decide which statistical method of policing is best for
society. Based on the finding from the data of societal measurement and effectiveness the decision on
whether or not to continue pursuing zero tolerance policing or revert to other methods can be
completely valid to specific fact based results.

Mentos Lab
Introduction: The diet coke and Mentos experiment has been a favorite of amateur scientists, but how
does it work? There have been debates, and scientists have concluded that the diet coke and Mentos is
a physical reaction, called nucleation. Nucleation sites are areas that have high surface with low
volume. Such places can be your fingerprint, scratches on glass, specks of dust, or even Mentos candy
(Eepy Bird). Mentos candies have a pitted surface that s rough when looked at through a microscope,
therefore creating a wonderful place for nucleation to occur. Water molecules like to be next to other

between the diet and regular soda? How does this affect the size of the fountain? The difference
between diet and regular soda is that diet soda uses artificial sweeteners, like aspartame for example.
This affects the fountain because low surface tension helps bubbles grow quickly. The surface tension
in water containing aspartame is lower than sugary water, which explains why diet soda creates a
bigger fountain thatn regular soda (NewScientist). 4. What differences are there between caffeinated

Qualities Of Women In Beowulf
Supernatural Dangerous Women
Beowulf and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight are both Anglo Saxon poems that share a male
dominated world with few female characters who have supernatural qualities. While the men in both
stories have noble qualities, the women are portrayed adversely; they are disregarded even though
they play an essential part to the story as either peace weavers or goaders to exert some sort of power.
In Beowulf there are three main women: Wealhtheow, Grendel s mother, and Hildeburh. These women
would amuse, bring contentment, or counteract their society s expectations of women in general.
While the common role of a woman in this story is depicted as feeble and is dismissively mentioned,
the Monster s mom (who is intentionally nameless to mirror the idea of a male dominated civilization)
fights like a male warrior, claiming her position as a goader; one who provokes, annoys, or stimulates

Theories Of Anti Arab And Anti-Islamic Hate Crime
Theories of Anti Arab and Anti Islamic Hate Crime
Before and After 9/11
The terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 were a triggering event for spikes of anti Arab and anti
Muslim hate crime in weeks following the events and were so profound that rates of anti Arab/Islamic
hate crime never returned to their pre 9/11 numbers. The media played a large role in the weeks
following 9/11 where Arab Americans and Muslims were demonized and profiled as disloyal, anti
American terrorists, perhaps contributing to the rise in incidents of these types of hate crimes. In the
following months, Arab and Muslim began to be used interchangeably and became synonymous with
terrorist and jihadist. Well over a decade later, these stereotypes remain and new incidents of tragedies
are often first assumed to be the work of Islamic terrorist groups. These stereotypes are damaging and
may be related to why anti Arab/Islamic hate crime have not returned to the rates before 9/11.
Choosing Between UCR and NCVS for Accurate Hate Crime Reporting
For this research paper, I chose to utilize academic sources that based their findings on data taken
from the FBI s Uniform Crime Reports, which includes information on hate crimes after the passage
of the Hate Crime Statistics Act of 1990 (Riedel Welsh, 2016, p. 136). I favored the UCR research
over that which used the National Crime Victimization Survey because the NCVS estimates of the
number of hate crimes is based on victim perceptions of whether a

The Importance Of Christopher Columbus Day
Christopher Columbus is the reason many Native Americans lost their land, and even their lives, so
why is Columbus Day a national holiday in the United States. This has been a common argument for
people who disagree with the celebration of Christopher Columbus. Many people believe the United
States should celebrate Indigenous People s Day opposed to Columbus day. Their idea that Native
Americans should be celebrated is a logical argument. Native Americans were in fact the first known
residents of the United States. However, Christopher Columbus bravery and resiliency should not be
forgotten. Columbus made an incredible discovery and opened many doors of opportunity for his
people and many others. For this reason, Columbus Day should continue to be a holiday that is
celebrated by the citizens of the United States. Columbus Day has been celebrated in the United States
for almost 150 years. It began in San Francisco in 1869 by a group of Italian Americans (Mai Duc).
Christopher Columbus was an Italian explorer, so it was not surprising that Italian Americans devoted
a day to his memory. Columbus discovery allowed Italians to conquer and inhabit a new, luxurious
territory. It was intriguing, but not shocking that the rest of the United States adopted Columbus Day
as a national holiday. It was in 1937 when the United States declared Columbus Day as a national
holiday (Segarra). This holiday is a remembrance of Christopher Columbus, his inspiring voyage, and

The Definition Of Employer Of Choice
The actual definition of Employer of Choice (EOC) is debatable from web site to web site and opinion
based. The Herman Group awards a certificate to employers titled the Employer of Choice Award
when they are recognized for their leadership, culture and best practices that attract, optimize and hold
top talent, achieving corporate objectives(Home, n.d.). An employer obtains this recognition by going
through an application process that screens the company s employees. The Herman Group describes
the award as people will want to work for you and will consciously stay with you even if they are

employees have different life choices and occupation paths at different stages of their career, (Lussier

and at different stages of their lives. To a potential employee, a company that satisfies the criteria for
pay, benefits, work hours and vacation time but does not have a healthy culture, growth opportunity or

It s Time To Reduce Gun Violence In The United States
Gun violence has existed in the United States for many years, and it continues to worsen each year.
President Obama plans to close gun show loopholes to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous
people. Obama s plan fits the need to significantly reduce gun violence, there is no way to effectively
put a complete end to gun violence but we need to try to minimize it. By closing gun show loopholes,
everyone that goes to a federally licensed gun dealer will get a background check when purchasing
firearms. The Firearm Owners Protection Act of 1986 allows anyone to purchase without having a
background check done, including convicted felons.
When it comes to gun control policy, the stakeholders are people who advocate gun control and people
who advocate gun rights. People who are for gun control want to protect themselves and others from
being victims of gun violence. Mass shooting and other serious crimes and tragedies that involve
firearms is something that neither gun control or gun rights advocates want, but the difference is that

The Conflict Between Syrian And Foreign Policy
Given the high level of foreign interest in Syria, it is a fact that the conflict cannot be resolved without
the involvement of both opposing Syrian parties and their foreign backers. This refugee disaster has
only become more complicated with the involvement of these foreign nations. As well, the ordeal has
exponentially worsened with the rise of jihadist organizations like ISIS. These groups seek to
eliminate all other opposition forces as well as the Syrian state itself, in an effort to claim all of the
leftover territory. Scarcity in weapons and funds in Syria are also leading to additional struggle. From
the beginning of the Syrian war, regional and international powers have intervened in the conflict
through direct support. Many argue that if Syria had been a major ally of Western countries, or even of
Russia, this war would have been stopped years ago. As it is now, Syria is caught in between two
major power blocs, and the government under Assad has gradually become an issue that these two
nations believe should be dealt with. But how?
From the perspective of rational choice theorists, their model assumes that states and their leaders
make choices that they believe will lead to the best possible outcomes for them in terms of their
individual goals. The interests of these parties include enhancing the state in various manners; such as
a stronger government, more economic power, proliferation of a military, and so on. Decision makers

accountable for my actions. As a 17 year old young man, I was always the one to make a lot of
excuses for anything that I was too lazy to complete. The military made me a responsible person.
People knew that my word was solid if I said the task was complete, and trust was being earned. In the
military trust is one of the biggest factors that keeps us alive during a mission, without it we are
doomed. As my knowledge grew it came with reasonability and promotions. But, I still got in trouble
but each time I learned from it. I m 19 now and I m in charge of a 20 million dollar jet aircraft. The
Navy made me see that attention to detail should be your priority just behind safety. I learned that
slow is fast on some jobs. You don t always have time to do rework on something you rushed to get
done. So taking your time could mean your life or your shipmates. My military life has made me
aware of human life. I have seen many good pilots and shipmates there one morning and the next day

So in the navy I seen many countries mistreat or disrespect the country I love and fight for. Many of
the people in the military are from those places. I found it hard to work with them because of this. It
wasn t that they did something to me, but it was because they were from the place that hurt other US
soldiers. I saw that it wasn t them doing the harm, it was the others they would call them. I learned to
see pass where they were from and learn about the person and there cultures. I see that they wanted
the same peace around the world I did and many of them had the same beliefs I grew up with. So at
the end of the day they were no different than I, we just looked

Snow House Descriptive Writing
My eyes flutter open lazily, as my slumber is interrupted by bright light, streaming through the
window. Slowly I swing my legs over the edge of my bed, toes searching for the soft carpet. Standing
on weary legs, I peer through the window to find a crisp white layer covering the grass. The sun is
gleaming brightly onto the newly fallen snow, causing a nearly blinding shimmer. Heading toward the
stairs my nose detects the sweet scent of a fresh batch of cinnamon rolls. My sluggish steps become
lively as I bound down the stairs into the aromatic kitchen. Studying the kitchen my eyes rest on the
clock which reads 8:30. Guess what honey! It s a snow day! My mother s words are like music to my
ears. As I sit down at the table, I spot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rummaging through my closet, throwing out shoe after shoe, until I finally find my dusty snow boots.
After finding the boots I dash to the hall closet, sifting through coats from previous years. At last I find
my new, pink, coat, along with my puffy snow pants. I step into my new winter gear and struggle to
pull the zipper with the bulgy, mismatched gloves, enclosing my little fingers. My attempt to leave
like this is quickly blocked by my mom, who insists that I need more layers. She tightly wraps a scarf
around my neck and face making it arduous to breathe. My mom takes a soft pink hat and tugs it
snugly onto my head, over my ears. She hands me my favorite sled, a pink and white, tie dye
toboggan. Once again I am ready to leave, but then my older brother Jackson yells, Wait for me! I roll
my eyes and slump uncomfortably onto the steps for what feels like an eternity before I hear my
brothers heavy boots stomping down the stairs. Finally we open the oak door and step foot into the
first snow of the year. The frigid air hits my face like a splash of cold water. The sun, though shining
brightly, seems to give off no heat around us. As Jackson and I make our way to the end of the
shoveled driveway, a snow plow drives by, forcing the snow off the street. We trudge forward leaving
behind footprints with each

Shaffer And Peter Kotter Chapter Summary
Schäffer, Johann, and Peter Koolmees. History of Veterinary Medicine and Agriculture. Verlag der
DVG Service GmbH, 2002.
This book starts off discussing the history of applied sciences. Peter Hernquist is named the father of
veterinary medicine in Sweden and was sent to veterinary school by the Swedish Authorities after
Europe was hit with a cattle plague. Later, Hernquist eventually established an agriculture school in
attempt to modernize education in his country. Within this school he proposed ideas to improve
agriculture. Some ideas entailed increasing pig population, making vinegar from rotten apples and
pears, and reducing the import of grain and use the money to reward successful farmers. While
Hernquist is coined as the father ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1853, lungsickness arrived though accidently imported cattle into the Cape Colony. A debate spread
about how to treat it, and because of the lack of veterinary services, it was confirmed that a medical
profession should come to treat it. Looking into diseases and wild animals on a closer level, chapter
five discusses bacteria. Friedrich Loeffler isolated a bacteria from diseased mice and concluded it was
not possible to infect other animals of other species. Additionally, in the past 50 years, governments
have made it a priority to control the populations of wild animals, as many of these animals hold
diseases that cause health problems. Moving on, the next chapter explains a report from The Pasteur s
Institute in Riga that focuses on the interpretation of data on rabies epidemiology and post exposure
vacation, its modification, results, and scientific work. In addition, it talks about the importance of
vaccinations. On rabies, it talks about statistics associated with it as well. After diseases became
apparent, public health became a priority. Because of the meat scares, a larger importance was placed
on the cattle and meat inspection. Veterinarians stepped in at this point, and were asked by farmers to
look at the animals and try to reduce diseases in attempt to improve food

Summary of Max Webers The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit...
Summary of Max Webers The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism
Max Weber s The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism is a study of the relationship between
the ethics of ascetic Protestantism and the emergence of the spirit of modern capitalism. Weber argues
that the religious ideas of groups such as the Calvinists played a role in creating the capitalistic spirit.
Weber first observes a correlation between being Protestant and being involved in business, and
declares his intent to explore religion as a potential cause of the modern economic conditions. He
argues that the modern spirit of capitalism sees profit as an end in itself, and pursuing profit as
virtuous. Weber s goal is to understand the source of this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While important, this alone cannot explain the need to pursue profit. One branch of Protestantism,
Calvinism, does provide this explanation. Calvinists believe in predestination that God has already
determined who is saved and damned. As Calvinism developed, a deep psychological need for clues
about whether one was actually saved arose, and Calvinists looked to their success in worldly activity
for those clues. Thus, they came to value profit and material success as signs of God s favor. Other
religious groups, such as the Pietists, Methodists, and the Baptist sects had similar attitudes to a lesser
degree. Weber argues that this new attitude broke down the traditional economic system, paving the
way for modern capitalism. However, once capitalism emerged, the Protestant values were no longer
necessary, and their ethic took on a life of its own. We are now locked into the spirit of capitalism
because it is so useful for modern economic activity.
Throughout his book, Weber emphasizes that his account is incomplete. He is not arguing that
Protestantism caused the capitalistic spirit, but rather that it was one contributing factor. He also
acknowledges that capitalism itself had an impact on the development of the religious ideas. The full
story is much more complex than Weber s partial account, and Weber himself constantly reminds his
readers about his own limitations. The book itself has an introduction and five chapters. The first three
chapters make up

Polygraphs Are Better Than Lying
Polygraphs measure bodily functions in order to evaluate whether or not the subject is telling the truth.
It combines three readings to achieve results: heart/blood pressure, respiration, and skin conductivity.
The heart and blood pressure is measured with a blood pressure cuff around the wrist, respiration is
judged using pneumographs around the chest, and skin conductivity is found by electrodes placed on
the fingertips. The subject is then asked a series of preliminary questions to set readings and ensure
that the equipment is working. Once the polygraph is set up, the interviewer begins one of the two
primary types of polygraph tests.
The Control Question Test (CQT) is the more popular of the two. The interviewer will ask both

Aldrich Ames was not an exception either, there have been many other guilty people who have passed

Abstract
This paper presents a comparison of mechanical properties of 17 4PH stainless steel parts built by
selective laser melting (SLM) additive manufacturing process with the wrought 17 4PH stainless steel
parts. The microstructure is analyzed using optical microscope and the mechanical properties are
evaluated using tensile testing according to ASTM E8 standard. Overall, the SLM fabricated samples
demonstrated superior tensile properties and the microstructure is strongly influenced by the SLM
process. The SLM processed specimens showed higher ductility and ultimate tensile strength than
wrought samples.

How Did Ancient Egypt s Relations With Foreign Power
To a great extent Egypt s relations changed with foreign powers from the eighteenth to the nineteenth
dynasties as Egyptian pharaohs adopted policies of diplomacy or military conquest. During the reign
of Amenhotep III Egypt s relations with foreign powers continued to be focused on diplomacy rather
than military conflict as Amenhotep sort to maintain peace and prosperity throughout the region. With
the accession of Akhenaten to the throne, Egypt s relations with foreign powers and its vassal s
changed dramatically with the rise of the expansionist Hittites and the decline of Mitanni. The
nineteenth dynasty saw a shift in Egypt s foreign policy with its neighbours, as Seti I sort to restore the

The battle of Kadesh was the climax of hostilities between Egypt and Hittite, however, the battle
served as the end of Egyptian expansionism in Syria Palestine. In year twenty one of Ramesses reign
peace was achieved between Egypt and Hittite as evident from inscriptions at the Ramesseum, the
Hypostyle Hall at Karnak and a Hittite tablet at its capital, Hattusas. In contrast to the early part of
Ramesses reign, the quotation reflects the peace and prosperity experienced by both Egypt and Hittite
during this period and the stability that continued throughout the reign of Ramesses. The treaty led to
a formation of an alliance, a mutual defence pact and a promise of no further aggression. Trading
improved with the reopening of Phoenician ports and removal of barriers to the Euphrates brought
renewed trading opportunities. Diplomacy and marriages where used to maintain friendly relations
between the two sides. Gifts were exchanged and Nefertari and the Hittite queen Pudukhapa
exchanged correspondence and gifts of jewels as evident from letters. Further evident from letters is
that in year thirty four of his reign Ramesses married a Hittite princess to strengthen Egypt Hittite
relations. This was followed by another marriage to

Warfare In Medieval Italy
Incessant Warfare In the 14th century, the northern Italy was divided into many conflicting city states.
The most powerful of these city states were Milan, Florence, Pisa, Siena, Genoa, Ferrara, Mantua,
Verona, and Venice. The Medieval Italy was then divided by a long battle for supremacy between the
Holy Roman Empire and the Papacy.
The Italian Wars: 1494 1559 The Italian wars are a series of wars for control over Italy that were
fought mostly by France and Spain. The violent wars began in 1494 with the invasion by Charles VIII,
King of France which devastated Northern Italy and ended the independence of many city states. He
conquered Naples but was soon drove out of the country Maximilian I of Spain and the pope of Rome.
Much of the area outside of Venice was then devastated in 1499 by the Turkish Invasion. King Louis
XII took Milan, Genoa, and Naples in 1499 but in 1503 he was driven ... Show more content on

After the Italian Wars Italy had a long period of prosperity and peace. The peaceful state was first
ruled under Habsburg Spain from 1559 to 1713 and then under Habsburg Austria from 1713 to
1796.The Black Death also had a large impact on Italy during their early modern period including
claiming 50,000 victims in Venice. In the 16th century the plague claimed about 14% of Italy s
population. The Great Plague of Milan also killed about half of Naples inhabitants in 1656. The
political situation in Italy in the 18th century was almost the same as it was in the 16th century. The
only difference was that instead of Spain ruling, Austria was now the dominant power after the War of
Spanish Succession. Another big difference was that the dukes of a mountainous region between Italy
and France known as Savoy had become kings of Sardinia. This occurred by them increasing their
Italian possessions. The possessions include Sardinia and the north west part of

The Delta is the lifeblood of California s water supply system, but when sea levels rise more and more of the levee system that blockades the salt and fresh water erodes, it leads to what is known as seawater intrusion. More simply, the contamination of freshwater by its salty counterpart. This process happens at varying rates, disrupting the water supply at a snail s pace or more in abundance, leaving a rippling effect to be felt for months, or even years. Climates effects on snowpack levels is far more measurable, where warming temperatures lead to higher levels of winter runoff. Thus depleting the snowpack earlier in the year, and leaving less for the spring and summer months to follow. Inversely, the average precipitations effects on the water supply are less measurable, due to the inability to correctly asses the amount of total runoff derived from precipitations role as the catalyst of the melting process. Measurements of this kind must be more than just an estimate, Hanak and Lund cite that It is likely to be decades before we know if and by how much precipitation and runoff volumes are changing (pg 20). An opposing view is that the fox is not a serious threat to agriculture, and should not be considered as a vermin. According to the League Against Cruel Sports the foxes actually help farmers by eating small animals, such as rabbits, rats and voles, which are considered to be pests on arable land. In addition, foxes are territorial animals, which means that once a fox is killed another soon moves into its place from a surrounding area. Left to control their population naturally the number of foxes would be controlled by scarcity of food, whereas when used fox hunting for controlling the populations, it only serves to lessen the amount of the animals temporarily, for more foxes to take advantage of the increase in food thus breeding again. Furthermore, foxes do not cause significant loss or damage in livestock. For example the League Against Cruel Sports, an organization strongly against fox hunting, mentions a York University study that states that only a minimal amount of 0.4% of lambs are killed by foxes, and of other livestock the percentage is extremely low as well. According to the study foxes are not a significant danger to livestock. Supporters of fox hunting present the opinion that foxes do not suffer from stress or pain as a result of the hunt. • 18. The Effects Of Soda On High School Vending Machines... You may be familiar with recent regulation, which was initiated for the 2014 15 school year, where the United States Department of Agriculture enforced regulatory guidelines on food items sold in schools across the nation. Although there was previously a nutritional requirement for food in school, as Marion Nestle, a Professor of Nutrition at New York University, points out in her very influential article of the time, this requirement [did] not apply to foods sold outside of school cafeterias in snack bars, school stores, or vending machines (Nestle 308). Many proponents of the recent regulation are astonished that such regulation was not in place from the beginning. Unfortunately, this action was influenced by an ever rising concern for the obesity rate in the US population, and not a desire to proactively encourage a healthy lifestyle. The history of soda in high school vending machines carries with it heavy economic interest, a plethora of lobbying and some imperative details, which we may find useful in our consideration of diet soda. Coca Cola and PepsiCo are the two major companies that compete in the soft drink arena. By the late 1990s these companies were already well established in high school vending machines, but the competitive market required quite a bit more action (Nestle 310). Do not regret my fate; if I have consented to survive, it is to serve your glory. I intend to write the history of the great achievements we have performed together. Adieu, my friends. Would I could press you all to my heart. Napoleon Bonaparte April 20, 1814 Following this, Napoleon was sent into exile on the little island of Elba off the coast of Italy. But ten months later, in March of 1815, he escaped back into France. Accompanied by a thousand men from his Old Guard he marched toward Paris and gathered an army of supporters along the way. Once again, Napoleon assumed the position of Emperor, but it lasted only 100 days until the battle of Waterloo and was defeated by the English and Prussian Armies on June 18, 1815. • 22. The s Stone, By J.k Rowling In, J.K Rowling s Philosopher s Stone there are a number of references to ancient mythologies. The events, characters and creatures in the story are not purely fictional, most of them relate to ancient mythology embedded in different cultures. According to Joseph Campbell, American mythologist, when people think of mythology, they usually correlate it with Greek mythology. This is illustrated through examples such as the dog Fluffy, the Philosopher s stone, magic numbers three and seven, and also its characters, like Harry Potter, Dumbledore, Voldemort, and Hermione. According to Campbell, myths provide direction, teaching young people about their own life and culture. To do so J.K. Rowling s novel Philosopher s Stone, rewrites modern versions of ancient myths, therefore they provide relatable guidance and teach young readers about their lives. The novel fulfils this need by providing engaging action and supernatural events. In Greek mythology a hero is usually born of a human woman and a god. Harry s mother was a muggler (an ordinary person who is not a wizard) and his father was a wizard. The hero in Greek myths fights monsters. Harry s ultimate quest is to fight Voldemort, the monster of the story. A hero is known to be worshipped by any ordinary audience, and therefore Harry is known to be famous to all as soon as he arrives at Hogwarts because of his tie to Voldemort. Harry is known as the boy who survived to the wizard world. This is explained in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. The Evolution Of The Hokulea The Evolution of the Hokulea The story of the Hokulea, a model of the first canoes that brought the first Polynesians to Hawaii, is a story that restores cultural pride and history to Hawaiians. Her legacy was almost extinct, but survived and restored the relationship that society has with its island home. More than 600 years had gone by without seeing one of these canoes, until artist Herb Kane thought to build a sailing canoe just like the ones his ancestors sailed (Hokulea.com). Polynesia was a massive country forming a triangle that stretched between New Zealand in the west, Rapa Nui in the east, and Hawaii in the north. This triangle covered 10 million square miles. It was discovered by these amazing people who were like the astronauts of the time, because of their amazing exploration skills. Remarkably, these Polynesians arrived in Hawaii 1,000 years before Columbus sailed to the Americas. They were considered some of the greatest explorers in all of history. These explorers were able to discover every livable land mass and island in the Pacific, without the use of modern technology. All they had were canoes that were very similar to the Hokulea. Polynesian explorers relied heavily on the stars, winds, waves, and other signs from nature to navigate the ocean. Hawaii has a very historical and traditionally rooted culture, and the Hokulea is the beginning and the very center of it. Hawaiians were able to develop the islands and mastered the art of living sustainably. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Theories Of Anti Arab And Anti-Islamic Hate Crime Theories of Anti Arab and Anti Islamic Hate Crime Before and After 9/11 The terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 were a triggering event for spikes of anti Arab and anti Muslim hate crime in weeks following the events and were so profound that rates of anti Arab/Islamic hate crime never returned to their pre 9/11 numbers. The media played a large role in the weeks following 9/11 where Arab Americans and Muslims were demonized and profiled as disloyal, anti American terrorists, perhaps contributing to the rise in incidents of these types of hate crimes. In the following months, Arab and Muslim began to be used interchangeably and became synonymous with terrorist and jihadist. Well over a decade later, these stereotypes remain and new incidents of tragedies are often first assumed to be the work of Islamic terrorist groups. These stereotypes are damaging and may be related to why anti Arab/Islamic hate crime have not returned to the rates before 9/11. Choosing Between UCR and NCVS for Accurate Hate Crime Reporting For this research paper, I chose to utilize academic sources that based their findings on data taken from the FBI s Uniform Crime Reports, which includes information on hate crimes after the passage of the Hate Crime Statistics Act of 1990 (Riedel Welsh, 2016, p. 136). This has been a common argument for people who disagree with the celebration of Christopher Columbus. Many people believe the United States should celebrate Indigenous People s Day opposed to Columbus day. Their idea that Native Americans should be celebrated is a logical argument. Native Americans were in fact the first known residents of the United States. However, Christopher Columbus bravery and resiliency should not be forgotten. Columbus made an incredible discovery and opened many doors of opportunity for his people and many others. For this reason, Columbus Day should continue to be a holiday that is celebrated by the citizens of the United States. Columbus Day has been celebrated in the United States for almost 150 years. It began in San Francisco in 1869 by a group of Italian Americans (Mai Duc). Christopher Columbus was an Italian explorer, so it was not surprising that Italian Americans devoted a day to his memory. Columbus discovery allowed Italians to conquer and inhabit a new, luxurious territory. It was intriguing, but not shocking that the rest of the United States adopted Columbus Day as a national holiday. My mom takes a soft pink hat and tugs it snugly onto my head, over my ears. She hands me my favorite sled, a pink and white, tie dye toboggan. Once again I am ready to leave, but then my older brother Jackson yells, Wait for me! I roll my eyes and slump uncomfortably onto the steps for what feels like an eternity before I hear my brothers heavy boots stomping down the stairs. Finally we open the oak door and step foot into the first snow of the year. The frigid air hits my face like a splash of cold water. The sun, though shining brightly, seems to give off no heat around us. As Jackson and I make our way to the end of the shoveled driveway, a snow plow drives by, forcing the snow off the street. We trudge forward leaving behind footprints with each ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This book starts off discussing the history of applied sciences. Peter Hernquist is named the father of veterinary medicine in Sweden and was sent to veterinary school by the Swedish Authorities after Europe was hit with a cattle plague. Later, Hernquist eventually established an agriculture school in attempt to modernize education in his country. Within this school he proposed ideas to improve agriculture. A debate spread about how to treat it, and because of the lack of veterinary services, it was confirmed that a medical profession should come to treat it. Looking into diseases and wild animals on a closer level, chapter five discusses bacteria. Friedrich Loeffler isolated a bacteria from diseased mice and concluded it was not possible to infect other animals of other species. Additionally, in the past 50 years, governments have made it a priority to control the populations of wild animals, as many of these animals hold diseases that cause health problems. Moving on, the next chapter explains a report from The Pasteur s Institute in Riga that focuses on the interpretation of data on rabies epidemiology and post exposure vacation, its modification, results, and scientific work. In addition, it talks about the importance of vaccinations. On rabies, it talks about statistics associated with it as well. After diseases became apparent, public health became a priority. Because of the meat scares, a larger importance was placed on the cattle and meat inspection. Veterinarians stepped in at this point, and were asked by farmers to look at the animals and try to reduce diseases in attempt to improve food ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Summary of Max Webers The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit... Summary of Max Webers The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism Max Weber s The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism is a study of the relationship between the ethics of ascetic Protestantism and the emergence of the spirit of modern capitalism. Weber argues that the religious ideas of groups such as the Calvinists played a role in creating the capitalistic spirit. Weber first observes a correlation between being Protestant and being involved in business, and declares his intent to explore religion as a potential cause of the modern economic conditions. He argues that the modern spirit of capitalism sees profit as an end in itself, and pursuing profit as virtuous. Weber s goal is to understand the source of this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While important, this alone cannot explain the need to pursue profit. One branch of Protestantism, Calvinism, does provide this explanation. Calvinists believe in predestination that God has already determined who is saved and damned. As Calvinism developed, a deep psychological need for clues about whether one was actually saved arose, and Calvinists looked to their success in worldly activity for those clues. Thus, they came to value profit and material success as signs of God s favor. Other religious groups, such as the Pietists, Methodists, and the Baptist sects had similar attitudes to a lesser degree. Weber argues that this new attitude broke down the traditional economic system, paving the way for modern capitalism. However, once capitalism emerged, the Protestant values were no longer necessary, and their ethic took on a life of its own. We are now locked into the spirit of capitalism because it is so useful for modern economic activity. Throughout his book, Weber emphasizes that his account is incomplete. He is not arguing that Protestantism caused the capitalistic spirit, but rather that it was one contributing factor. He also acknowledges that capitalism itself had an impact on the development of the religious ideas. The full story is much more complex than Weber s partial account, and Weber himself constantly reminds his readers about his own limitations. The book itself has an introduction and five chapters. The first three chapters make up ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It combines three readings to achieve results: heart/blood pressure, respiration, and skin conductivity. The heart and blood pressure is measured with a blood pressure cuff around the wrist, respiration is judged using pneumographs around the chest, and skin conductivity is found by electrodes placed on the fingertips. The subject is then asked a series of preliminary questions to set readings and ensure that the equipment is working.
